Reviews (page 13 of 15)
Listening session: april 19th, while flying back home from London Listened to before: heard one song before Thoughts: I’ve never truly understood Pink Floyd and while I appreciate some of their music after listening to two of their albums on this project, I’m still not a fan. I liked The Dark Side of the Moon better than this album, although I like the guitar parts on the starting and ending track of this album Favourite track: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-
My first Floyd, one of the reasons I did this whole thing, to listen to things I hadn't heard and to listen to the massive bands I avoided. Definitely elements to like, especially the keyboards. Love that 70s sound. Nice sounds to the record, but the solos and lyrics don;t do it for me. Oddly seems kind of slight. 3 Heard before? Some Owned: No 65/262 (25%) Will I get: No
I really was quite “eh” on this
Salright
Giving this 1 innovation point for how it sounds like post-rock but otherwise I'm a bit sceptical
7/10
Other than the opening track never had the same impact as DSoM and started the demise of creative Floyd with Waters taking too much control.
Buenardo!!!
Pretty cool album. I feel like it was very influential at the time, idk why lol. I like the guitar parts in Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5), probably my favorite song. 6.5/10, enjoyable.
top 3 - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 6-9), Wish You Were Here, Welcome to the Machine. Unsure what to rate, will need to listen again in the future because I had a headache before turning this on :’).. I think I liked it though!
The first song of the album "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" just reminds of a a story about an adventure into a vast unknown world. As I listen to it, it begins to develop more in a way I feel like I can't accurately describe. However there are for sure more layers to the music being added it progresses further towards the end. I feel as though the intent of this first is to tell a story primarily through the music itself instead of through lyricism which I find cool. Listening to the other songs I had to other stuff and put my phone down. Originally I planned to listen to intent with these 1001 albums. I found that I was able to appreciate the sound of this album a bit more when I wasn't so focused on listening well and instead just vibing with the sounds it was offering me. Sometimes you don't have to think to enjoy something you can just enjoy it for what it is. Overall I think its alright and for what it was considering the time this album came out this was most likely a lot of people's introduction to this type of sound. For me it's a 3 if I was old as hell a 4
A classic and powerful album, have a cigar and wish you were here easy to listen to separately. Interesting that you only hear the vocalist 9 mins into the album. Reminiscent of PF’s early work with Syd Barrett
Good
This was really good. I will be coming back to this one
Such a hard album to rate. I have no history or attachment to Pink Floyd, but somehow I "know" this is supposed to be - not only great - but an entire experience. Still, other than Wish you were here, which as a song get easy 5 stars, I had trouble connecting to the album. Will listen again.
Oh god, I struggle with Pink Floyd. So many people seem to love them, but it all sounds so flabby and trad to me. Parts of this were interesting (mostly the opening 5 and closing 5 minutes), but the rest was all standard-issue gruff blues-rock. Sorry Floyd fans, I just don’t get it.
first time listening to pink floyd i liked the Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pts 1-5
91. nice
It was okay.
Bien bien, loco
this is such a beautiful album, but i have to be in a specific mood to want to listen to it, especially in full.
Nice instrumental sound on tracks 1 and 5. Nothing stands out that feels like a banger on repeat though. Gives nice retro vibes and longer tracks are a nice refresh, but for replays a bit lengthy
Clearly art, but I wouldn't listen again. Not for me.
Discazo con muy buenos momentos, pero no sé si lo volvería a escuchar.
a beautiful marathon of crescendo decrescendo over the album… cool that this is only five songs; i don’t think i’d known that. not that this has any bearing on the sound but the album art is just also so sick. i wish I could temporarily remove my familiarity with wish you were here to experience it more as an album, but alas… many such cases!
Really love the song “Wish You Were Here” The whole album is a mood. Took a while to settle into it (for me at least) Was going to give it a 4 or 5, but didn’t like last song AT ALL
Look I’m sorry but I actually just don’t give a fuck about Pink Floyd
Self-indulgent. Overcome with their own profundity when the lyrics and concept really quite shallow. Good musicians though. A 3 for the wistful Wish You Were Here.
Не мой тип музыки
I was a massive Floyd fan as a younger dude. They still hold up from time to time, but it doesn't hit like it used to.
Now this is prog rock I can get on board with, I suppose it’s less prog than most prog rock. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is an unbelievable song, as is Wish You Were Here, admittedly there’s some forgettable tracks in between. 3.5/5.0 Best Song: Shine On You Crazy Diamond, pts1-5
Pink Floyd don't speak to me the way they used to, but they were capable of a pretty remarkable atmosphere.
Ok so british trying to be special again.
I love it once upon a time. But songs too long, could hace less sound effects and short guitar jams ;)
I would imagine this was a very progressive sound for the time so I can appreciate why Pink Floyd became so popular. Not a huge fan of the fact that it's a 45 min album only broken up into 5 songs. However, I imagine it went craaazy listening to these tracks around their initial release in a softly-lit club in which the stale cigarette smoke lingers around the bulbs. Unfortunately the vibes I experienced this album with were much worse (my bedroom on a random weekday afternoon). Overall i would probably give it a 3(.2? idk how precise i want to go yet) out of 5.
core memory of seeing this tape in my dad's collection. next to his stereo setup in the living room that lived in the enormous media cabinet. Overall Wish you were here is the highlight, the rest of the album is less memorable. But Shine on you Crazy diamond is fun and expansive
Pretty good. I liked have a cigar and already heard wish you were here. 3.7/5
Lots of great stuff here, I can see why it's such a well loved album. Love the thick guitar/bass stacking on Wish You Were Here. But since I'm rating these based purely on my enjoyment, it gets a 3.5 for the whole thing being very downtempo, and as one review I read said, "it's like they knew we'd be trippin'". So me not trippin' is not the target audience here. I imagine I'll like this more as I get to know it better.
1. Shine on you crazy diamond: I didn’t expect to liked it so much but I really loved the beat, rhythm and the variety of instruments, my only complaint is how long the song is and how little lyrics it has. 2. Welcome to the machine: did not like it at all, I mean it wasn’t awful but the beat was to much, kind of made me feel anxious. 3. Have a Cigar: kind of a love/hate relationship with this one, the rhythm was a vibe but I hated the way they sang the lyrics. 4. Wish you were here: not really enjoyed the beginning but after my initial hatred I actually enjoyed it, it reminded of the type of songs my dad listens to, overall just a chill/cool song 5. Shine on you crazy diamond (6-9): the windy noise from the beginning was super dreadful, after that the song was a complete vibe, loved the way the variety of instruments sounded together, there was a part in the beginning that felt similar to parts (1-5) but with an edge so absolutely lived that, only complaints would be a part were it felt like someone was high pitched screaming in my ear, the longevity of the song and that overall it sound similar to (1-5) but I guess it makes sense since it’s technically the same song. Loved it as the last song on the album. Overall review of album: 7.8/10 As someone who listens to the same 5 song on repeat I didn’t expect to like it at all but it truly surprised me, I don’t think it would be the type of album I would listen to all the time but I mean I’m also basic. Extras, I really loved how the album started and ended, it felt nice how the beat started to vanish at the end.
I know this album already, and I'd like to like it more than I do. Lots of long, noodly stuff around a couple of good songs.
In the beginning it like instrument playing in the first song to build then the lyrics comes in in the whole album. It was like mixed with different type of emotions like you would go from screaming to sad just like I don’t know what I’m doing here, 8.5/10
While I wouldn't put it past my more strident younger self to have hostility toward Pink Floyd, my memory is that I was more indifferent than anything else. Their looooong, proggy songs could sound like they were playing at the wrong speed on a turntable. Wish You Were Here still has elements of that, but I have generally positive feelings toward Pink Floyd these days. I'm not a fan and likely won't return to this, but I appreciate them and their artistry. 3.5 stars.
i have already heard this
Didn't expect a sax solo. It was fine, I guess.
incredible guitar components but at times slower than I would have liked it to be. A decent listen but not quite my cup of tea.
Some great moments but a lot of rambling instrumentals.
حلو بس ممل بعطي الباند فرصه ذو
This was meh
okay
Background listen. Got pulled over while listening to this.
Good album overall. Floyd does it like no one else. That being said… there were a few times I found myself saying “could we get to the point?” Bit rambly at points…
Liked it
A little self indulgent. With their other work, I'm not sure this belongs here. i used to love Shine on you crazy diamond, but lets see what else comes from this app.
Never been a Pink Floyd fan but enjoyed this and it might be the entry for me to listen to some more
The first time I listened to Pink Floyd, I ate a pretty large amount of mushrooms and listened to "Dark Side Of The Moon" while watching The Wizard of Oz. Well, it turns out all Pink Floyd albums feel exactly like that.
Viisi biisiä? Näin ainakin aple musicissa. No joo. Psykorokkia. Elokuvasoundtrackmaista meininkiä. Ei tätä voi vihatakaan
I enjoyed some of the instrumental jam type sequences throughout the first and closing songs. Nice to get lost a bit in the journey of that, but overall I found this album pretty boring and slow. I didn’t feel any stirring of emotions or feeling as I listened.
Great synth, wish the vocals were less forced, I've heard it a hundred times so it's comfy
Wat langdradig, maar nog best ok. 3/5
Pretty sweet. It took a couple listens for me to come around on PF.
I like this but it doesn’t totally personally connect for me… will prob revisit it in time!
Would have rated higher if vocals were better. Great instrumentals.
Jakoś bardzo mnie to nie grzeje. Nie mój klimat, ale nie jest złe oczywiście.
Welcome to the Machine is a very interesting song with some interesting instrument choices. Very cool. On the whole, it's not the most thrilling album, but it's certainly an interesting one. 3/5 stars.
Not my favorite of theirs and yet it is still Pink Floyd. 3.7
A few songs--and one of my favourite Floyd songs, "Wish You Were Here"--embedded in a symphonic prog rock elegy that somehow transcends its longwinded excess. Or maybe that's the point. Really sad. Not a real Pink Floyd enthusiast, but I used to play a tape of this in my walkman to fall asleep every night during one particularly angsty phase.
It’s hard to listen to this with fresh ears since, amazingly enough, all the songs are classic rock radio staples. And PF have always been too ponderous and self-important for my tastes. But they also had a keen sense for melody and the guitar work and arrangements can be stunning.
really long but enjoyable journey, looking forward to the others
Yeah, I like it! Didn't expect that. This is slightly more subdued Pink Floyd? Not too spacey, not too weird, good vocals. Yeah, nice.
The individual tracks were quite long and didn’t really grab my attention but nonetheless a decent album
I hate giving more than two stars to a Pink Floyd album but it's quite nice to put on in the background if you're busy. It's hard to be bored to tears by a 14 minute song if I'm answering emails and enduring the stale wit of coworkers at the same time. Almost any song of 3.5 minutes is too long, but I will say they were good at what they did. Drugs would make this album better- maybe not an office record. Best song: ¨Wish You Were Here¨
pretty good
It’s a solid album, although Wish You Were Here is by far the best song on it.
it was a good listen. Wish you were here is one of my favorite songs
Powerful instrumentals, but I want more vocals and better vocals
I was never really sure if I liked long, jammy, wankery instrumentals but I've realised that - shockingly - it comes down to whether I like the music or not. Pink Floyd do these phenomenally. But the stuff in-between the two prog rock noodling doesn't really hit it for me. It's not terrible, but it's not really any good either. It's just there, just a bit meh. Pink Floyd have definitely done better things.
Bon ben c'était quand même moins chiant que le reste.
Tricky one for me. I think the title track and the vocal parts of Shine On are fantastic but nothing else grabs me musically. It’s technically amazing and great at mood setting and I like the non-musical elements of all PF albums. Probs a 3.5 but leaning towards a 3 imo
Very proggy. Well made but not for me.
Who? It depends on the person.
brilliant
Find this kind of boring now. All-time great cover though.
I owned this poster, yes I did. I like this corny album fine. Meddle, which doesn't feel so dated, has aged way better.
Up to the second try at 'Shine on' I was pretty much enjoying it and I like wish you were here a lot, but I got bogged down in it after wish you were here.
I’ve never loved Pink Floyd it somehow feels too pretentious for me
Yep, listened, probably don’t have time to go back. Liked what I heard…
My first Pink Floyd album. The beginning took me by surprise. But I liked it! Especially the 'Wish you were here' song. Later on I was more focused on first Radek being sexy and then poor Roscoe dying. What a rollercoaster.
never was my thing but from a technical pov its very impressive
overstays its welcome already on the first track
Classic but I always thought Pink Floyd was a bit overrated.
While I think academically it should be an interesting album from a songwriting and performance point of view, I simply have never enjoyed it as much as I do THE WALL and it is about on par for me as DSOTM. I think it is endearing that Syd's mates wrote 2 very long tracks to celebrate their love and guilt over his situation, but I personally don't enjoy them much. The three remaining tracks "Welcome to the Machine", "Have a Cigar", and "Wish You Were Here" are undoubtedly the high points of the album. The songwriting on those 3 songs benefit from the increased tightening and focus that the Shine On epic lacks. In my opinion Wish You Were Here is a fine album, but not worthy of occupying a 3rd 1970s slot on this list. If a PF album should be removed to make room for other artists, this is it.
nice et chill rock
It was alright. Dont understand their hype, though
Album feels bitter and lacking emotion. I get the themes but they kinda feel empty other than the title song.
Really nice and smooth. More chill and pensive than I go for generally but it was cool and low key synth-y rock.
~10.00, sennheiser, qobuz hieno kansi, hyvä musa
I like the song „wish you were here“ but if I want to hear instrumental songs, I would rarely choose this album, although it has beautiful sound. (3,5)
It was fine
With you were here is certainly a masterpiece, but I felt the rest of the songs were unnecessarily long and uninteresting. 6/10
Good but overrated as shit
Man, this album probably gained 2 stars because I was high.
better than the wall for sure but still not my cup of tea. has some good songs though. Took a lil to get into it.
Title track is a masterpiece. Most of the points for that. The rest is overlong, not very interesting. Often sounds like a soundtrack to a planetarium show. Welcome to the Machine is awful.
I didn't really get into this one. Sorry Pink Floyd
DAY 1: Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd 1975 - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1-5) - SO BOMB, immediately saved after the beat drop — so fucking long - Welcome To The Machine - gave me anxiety in the beginning. OKAY SCI FI. Was just okay, didn’t enjoy the laughter in the end - Have a Cigar - WOAH. Wait love the beginning. I love this groove. Lyrics are so-so. Not a fan of the end - Wish You Were Here - The growl sounds like something from Minecraft. I like this acoustic with the radio in the back (sounds like someone trying to play along). Feels sweet - Shin On You Crazy Diamond (6-9) - 12 mins here we go. IS THAT AN ELECTRIC KEYBOARD OR WHAT LIKE A MINUTE IN. Pretty cool
Wish you were here is a great song
All the parts that involve singing are decent, all the pure acoustic parts just fly right by me.
First Listen: Feb 02 2023 METRO BOOMIN REFERENCE!?!?!?!?? i remember finding a bulk of this album very underwhelming. The first and last tracks were incredible, but overall its very overrated. there are many far better pink floyd albums it feels like a really good prog rock song interrupted by a 17 minute snoozefest. the middle is so overrated
Not my vibe
Not really my thing, i can appreciate the sound though - it’s not quite like anything else out there.
Not for me but sounded great
Like dark side of the moon, there are some great moments like “]Wish you were here” and the parts of “shine on you crazy diamond” where they’re not just jamming. Unfortunately for me most of the album feels like filler
iconic and creative blah blah blah. decent listen. self titled track wins once again.
-have a cigar
It was fine. Actually enjoyed Pink Floyd.
Musically great if you like this kind of thing, but it's almost just instrumental.
I'm just not a Pink Floyd fan, sue me
The style of yelling in welcome to the machine made me want to shove my ears into a woodchipper machine. If not for that it would’ve been a 4.
Going somewhere but not totally succeeding. Bonus points for ambition though! 3.5
Not a big Floyd fan but if I was going to like a record it would be this one
Kult! Avslappende å høre på, uten at det blir kjedelig. Tror det er mange lag å oppdage her ved fremtidige lytt. Noen partier blir i overkant lange og rare, men virker ekstremt gjennomført.
Shine on 1&2 and Wish you were here are otherworldly, but listening to this front to back as an adult just doesn’t hit the same way as when I was 13. If I could do half stars we’d be at 3.5/5
It was okay. I'm not going out to buy it, but if someone put it on I'd listen. I think the biggest problem was that the songs felt like they lacked structure. It just felt like some really good musicians noodling around on their instruments.
Typically throughout this list l, I’ve not enjoyed “Psychedelic Rock” and I’ve never been a big Pink Floyd fan. Some of their songs are okay. I found this album intriguing though. Maybe it finally clicked? It’s definitely a “sink into the couch” kind of album, but there’s something about this particular Pink Floyd album that got me. I think it was the intricacies of the instruments.
First duplicate band. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I wouldn't relisten.
Gillade mer än förraa gången jag lyssnade! Titelspåret är 5/5.
Very vibey, felt like I should be high
One of those really classic albums I just never listened to. It was pretty good. Glad I finally heard it but also who cares.
"The album begins with a long instrumental preamble" says Wikipedia and it was accompanied by a long sigh from me. Pink Floyd are a band where I really love parts of songs (the actual lyrical part of Shine On You Crazy Diamond is great*) but you have to wade through so much noodling to get to the good bits. I could have also done without the parts that made it sound like my headphones were broken. I like the majority of the title track though. * I absolutely accept this might be down to nostalgia - both parents loved that song, and Pink Floyd in general, so I heard it a lot as a kid. I enjoyed this more than The Wall, so I'm going for a 3, even though I think it's technically a 2.5. 3/5
3.5 I’m not a Pink Floyd guy, never have been, not one of my classic bands. This is the first album of theirs I’ve listened to all the way through. Also crazy it took over halfway through this project to get my first album of theirs. I know they show up multiple times on this list. I really liked the middle three songs. I found Crazy Diamond a bit indulgent, and that’s over half the album, so! But production is amazing and practically perfect. I definitely see why this is people’s favorite band of all time.
Trying to get through this backlog and I do not need this depressing shit right now! But it was mostly pretty good. Did not enjoy as much as The Wall, but enjoyed more than The Rainbow Triangle One.
Synth rock. Just really don’t like this type of psych rock. One more star for the title track, which is wonderful.
Off the cuff remark: Hated self-indulgent, bombastic splurge of Floyd when I was, ahem, younger. Old dads hippy nonsense. As an old Dad it holds a little more interest and certainly recognise influence on other stuff I like much more, but... Standout Track: Wish Yo Were Here Revisit?: probably not.
Not bad, 3/5. Didn't like two of the songs.
A classic! Better than Dark Side or the Wall, but not as good as others.
Ganska bra men betydligt svagare än Dark side of the moon och The Wall.
Shine On should have been its own album. The other three songs on this album are just filler.
I do love the title track, and parts of the lengthy opener were great, but this one does feel slightly self obsessed and anti-listener compared to some of their better albums.
Pink Floyd is iconic. They're objectively a good band. I thought this album was fine.
3.5
Being the most turgid Pink Floyd album is an achievement unto itself.
First, it's a shame that in the cd/streaming era, listeners won't see the amazing sleeve photos from this LP. About the music: while I know how they are related, I always had a problem balancing the heartfelt tributes to their broken former band mate ("shine on you crazy diamond" and "wish you were here") with two largely throwaway songs about how the music industry is full of vapid cheats. This was always the gamble with PF albums: if you dont like a song, you're stuck with it for 7 to 22 minutes. I like 3 of the 5 songs here and actively dislike the other 2, so how to rate this? Three it is!
Eigentelch send alli lieder no zemlech geil, dör das dass sie jedoch huere lang send wärdes ergendeinisch au chli langwiilig. För e Hendergrond esch es aber super.
Devastating. Unless I want a good cry, I’m not putting this on..so that complicates the ranking. But god it just oozes emotion.
This was good overall! I think the musicianship and production were fantastic, they really created a vibe that was compelling by and there were ebbs and flows through the album. I think I didn’t “get” a lot of it though, with the many parts and lack of an overall message in a lot of it. Its again not really my taste, and also I think I have heard other Pink Floyd songs that were more my speed.
It's an epic tale that's best when accompanied by visuals from a show. I can listen to a few of the songs over and over, but for the majority, they float around into the background.
Good album, not as good as dark side. Have a cigar and to a lesser extent Welcome to the machine feel a bit forced and clunky. Shine on 1-5 and Wish you were here are all time great songs.
An album about loss and disillusionment and a critique of the music business (which by this point has made them millionaires). It is as prog rock tends to be; ponderous, self-indulgent and self-importantly sententious. It is also beautiful in its way and very much of its time, in terms of the soundscape. It has the trademark atmospheric sound effects, overlong solos and some creative chord work from Rick Wright (always my favourite band member). It’s two shortest tracks, the title track and Have A Cigar with Roy Harper singing lead are the best tracks. As always with Floyd in this period I wonder what they thought would happen if they ever broke above their walking pace slow rock tempo. At least 50% of Nick Mason’s career is spent playing the same beat at the same speed! I also wish Rick Wright had played more piano and less plastic sounding synth. Overall the creative concepts are, well, creative, but they do sound a bit tired and lacking in energy and and commitment.
Solid and unique music style. Definitely shows psychedelic rock’s origin in blues music. Too short and nothing really stuck out to me. The Wall is much more of a fun listen.
Not a huge Floyd fan, but Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here have always been good songs. So pretty easy to listen to this album
This is the first time I've listened to Wish you were Here since probably 1995 in its entirety. My Dad was/ is a big fan so I heard this album and the radio edit singles all the time as a kid. It's a great album but I can't go over 3 stars. My main criticism is that for all its jazzy pretensions ithe playing doesn't really blow you away. They were a great band and I appreciate their work but this doesn't hold up well for me.
Great journey all the way through
It’s not a bad album. But you know how time flies when you’re having fun? This album feels like every song takes half an hour (which it probably does…)
Never been able to get into PF. Nothing really wrong with the music. It just lacks something. No doubting the vision. This just sounds like it could be a soundtrack to Shoestring.
Is this sacrilegious? Cool album but probably wouldn't turn it on myself
Didn’t enjoy this as much as I’d have thought. Quite alternative 6/10
weird but the actual title song is good
I liked it 👍🏾
Not their best
I was astonished the moment Shine On You Crazy Diamond started playing, the drop is completely unexpected. It's definitely an interesting listen, you're either gonna like it or dislike it. It goes down in quality at the end especially the title track.
Wish You Were Here may be my favorite PF song, but the rest of this album is nowhere near some of their other work. Dark Side is the pinnacle.
3.4.
A classic and has its place.
Atmospheric and interesting.
I've always had a bit of mixed relationship with Pink Floyd in that whilst I love Dark Side and a fair chunk of The Wall, they've never properly clicked outside of that. Wish You Were Here kind of exemplifies that for me as across the 5 tracks there are some really strong moments, but equally there's stuff in here that just doesn't quite land for me. For me Wish You Were Here really shines in its opening and closing tracks. I really love how these tracks meander between genre, opening the album in a more ambient mode before shifting into prog-rock and building anticipation for what's to come. There's a really great sense of progression and narrative that I think is lacking from stuff like Have a Cigar and the title track (which honestly I've always found a bit dull compared to other Pink Floyd tracks)
3 5 stars. wish you were here, have a cigar
Pre: Never been a Pink Floyd fan, but admittedly I'd never listened to an album the whole way through, which really is their whole deal; I imagine this is the prog equivalent to having never seen Star Wars. Post: Almost exactly as I expected. Nothing I hated, nothing that compelled either. Highlight: Have a Cigar (in particular the vocals for "ride the gravy train")
Great to listen to more Pink Floyd, I think musically it’s amazing and to hear it live would be incredible, but the lyrics don’t mean much to me and ad much as I enjoyed it I’m not sure I’ll be going back to it
3.5/5 - good rock album
My favorite Pink Floyd album.
The emotion of Syd Barrett's absence adds to this. I am not as violently opposed to prog as I was in younger days. But my old view that this is still the slow, noodly music that punk was sent to destroy still holds in part.
I'm bored of this album now. Great when I was thirteen and did not have wide musical tastes. Best song: Have A Cigar. Worst song: Welcome To The Machine. All a bit self-indulgent. It's all a bit slow. WYWH is a good song, but now a bit too twee.
Wish it was better.
To my mind, this pales in comparison to The Dark Side of the Moon, but still a great album.
Enjoyable - wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think you need to be in a nothing mood to listen to it. Not a stand out - was excited when I saw the Band, left a little "meh"
Very good
Kinda fun, and "Wish You Were Here" might be my favorite Pink Floyd song. I appreciate the rest of the album for what it is, but I don't love it. 3.3
Bit of a strange album. It's a few good songs sandwiched between 12+ minute long jam sessions. I liked it, but it's nowhere near The Wall.
3.5
Lots of instrumental parts and pretty mellow
It was fine. Nothing really stood out for me and it wasn’t the best of Pink Floyd albums, in my opinion.
shine on, pts 1-9 is like 30 minutes.
Even though I’m very familiar with this album I’ve still given it a good listen. In many ways this is like the difficult second album, coming as it did after DSOTM. Having said that they still put in a good show and Rick Wright did some great keyboard work. Not their best album for me personally but still a very solid album and deserves its place on the list
While beautifully produced and played, this was a lot of window dressing just to get to the title track and then an outro of equal spatial masturbating. Not my jam. Math blues rock I could get high to and stare at velvet paintings for a few hours. At this point in my life I will pass. Still it is a highly influential band at their height.
Some good tracks, I don’t love it but for the good tracks a 3
Boring, too little vocals
pretty long songs but yeah good
Good. Feel like I need to have good speakers. Still can’t fully get into Pink Floyd
Оригинальная музыка. Теперь понятно, откуда многие берут рифы и сэмплы. Но всё же не моё.
3/5 Solid, but only one banger.
The problem with this is once you allow Gilmore and co more than 5 min to make a song it all goes a bit wrong
Hm. Like the radiohead of their time. Portentious ass motherfuckers with a lot of talent, but not quite enough to support their pretension or to earn the right to not just deliver some tight rock and roll that they have proven they are capable of. Shine on has an interesting story, and sid fucking showed up even, but it just kinda sounds like their keyboardist just got the first pitch wheel in the world for christmas. Roy harper an interesting cat, and the title track is powerful good, but the record company bad shit just like 'money' is some plodding ass moralizing.
Ok
This album was just 50% shine on you crazy diamond. Good song I guesss. Nice guitar work.
Classic Floyd, but only worth 3 stars in my book
Too many long, slow instrumental sections. Wish you Were Here is a good song, but also the only one that’s way too short.
A little melodramatic for me on the whole. Songs about being annoyed by the music industry that has made all your dreams come true (have a cigar) might be my least favorite artistic theme. wish you were here is an incredible song but as an album, wish you were here is is more morose than engaging. Guessing this will be an unpopular take.
Typical Pink Floyd.
A couple of good songs, rest ok'ish
I like Wish You Were Here. Nice twist on the Rednex classic! There’s also something intriguing about the first part of «Shine on…» (except for the saxophone solo), but I don’t really care for the three other songs. Too much noodling, not enough song
Typical Pink Floyd - not our favourite but still v listenable
I have heard all of these songs over the years. I really like wish you were here, but the rest of the album is ok for me.
Meh.
Schönes Album.
Quite self indulgent but a lot of it is quite good. I think.
Everyone says they like a bit of Floyd but only hard-core fans actually listen to a whole album. I like this album but in my opinion if falls far short of Dark Side of the Moon.
Pretty nice. Would be better with some LSD
Rating out of respect but would never put this on again. Maybe if I had the original 1st pressing on vinyl, in ex-council flat in London I purchased for £500k and furnished it with the most minimal art deco furniture, whilst enjoying a Batchelor lifestyle, reminiscing of that women who I briefly knew. But yeah, not for me.
It's "epic" in scope, but just don't think it's for me overall
The song ‘Wish You Were Here’ is undeniably powerful and touching but the style of the song felt like it doesn’t really fit somehow. ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ has their signature experimental sound, but the overall album felt overly drawn out at times. The lengthy instrumental sections became tediously long. The album has some moments of brilliance, however it lacks any cohesion for my liking.
I give Pink Floyd all the credit in the world. Important band for sure. But the overwrought songs are just not for me.
Outside of the title track I’m sorry this was mostly bullshit
I don't hate it, I just don't understand why it is so popular.
Gonna be unpopular but its kind of slow and draggy to me. I like Have a Cigar, but honestly felt like it was much longer than 7 minutes. I also didn't see how there were 5 parts to the first Shine on Crazy Diamond. Is it beautiful, yes...is it trippy, yes....is it talented and cool, yes. If I am feeling really introspective and thinking, sure I would listen but it is not something I would listen to all the time. My favorite was Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 6-9 Not bad, but not my favorite by them
Not a huge Pink Floyd fan but a solid classic nonetheless.
The album art should probably get more stars than the album :) Seriously though, this was before my time, and I have only really heard the tracks on classic rock radio. I do appreciate Wish You Were Here, but the album drags on. I am not legally able to modify my consciousness in a way that I can appreciate this music.
Solid sounds, but it didn't move me either way.
Not a major fan. The songs are very long but didn't seem really to go anywhere. I didn't enjoy listening to it really.
Bon des fausse note genre « cigare » mais shine on diamand part 1 et 2 est l’un des meilleur morceau de tout les temps et enterré à lui tout seul le reste de la discographie des pink Floyd
I like it. Took a couple of listens for it to grow on me but overall I like the instrumentals and vibe the album produces.
It's chill vibes, but the electronic / synth beats are not my style. Maybe this music is appropriate while studying.
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr and shine. You wore out your welcome with random precision. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, you painter, you piper and shine. The Wall might be awful, but Post-Syd Floyd also did this. I couldn't pick any of the other songs out of a line up, but half the record is Shine, so...
"Wish You Were Here" showcases Pink Floyd's signature atmospheric sound and introspective lyrics. The title track and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are undeniable classics, with haunting melodies and emotional depth. However, the album's short tracklist and occasional indulgence in lengthy instrumental passages may test some listeners' patience. While not reaching the heights of "Dark Side of the Moon," it remains a solid, if somewhat uneven, entry in Pink Floyd's discography.
Yeah, I really missed the age when you’re supposed to be blown away by this band. This record requires LSD and a laser light show. Otherwise, it’s just fine.
Крепкая, но все таки тройка - чисто из-за структуры альбома. А так звучок приятный, мелодии приятные, все вкусно
Curse you list! I used to think I hated Pink Floyd, and I was quite content in that space. However, now you’ve made me listen to them objectively, I actually ‘didn’t mind’ this album. Bastards. I refuse to have my tastes broadened so easily. You’ll have me trying to abide The Beach Boys next, and I’m not having it. Back off!
Framför allt så är det tråkig musik. Låt 1 Nja, inte så värst bra Låt 2 Direkt dålig? Närmare dålig än bra iaf Låt 3 Inte heller bra. Låt 4 Är riktigt bra. Klassiker..femma. Låt 5 Ännu mer jobbig gitarr. På ett dåligt sätt. Wee woo were... Som jag sagt tidigare, jag förstår att man kan gilla detta dock. Men verkligen inte min kopp te.
WHY IS THIS INTRO SO FUCKIN LONG???? Ok this is an album that demands a lot of patience. You have to be really patient with this one but it kind of pays off. Worth it. Title track is my favorite and the crazy intro builds to something I end up liking, too.
Kinda mid. I like Pink Floyd's early more psychedelic stuff, but not this.
A Pink Floyd album with way less posters hung up in college dorms compared to Dark Side of The Moon, but I'd say its just as good of album. It has some similar ethereal sounds and build up in each song, just maybe a little less trippy.
A really nice slow burn from Pink Floyd here, for their ninth outing they have managed to bring the space rock to the forefront through the struggles of the declining mental health of one of their founding members. As a follow up to Dark Side of the Moon, this was always going to be met with an exceptionally critical audience. However I enjoyed it for it's laid back spacey feel that you could dip into a trance with. Best: Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts 1-5 Worst: Welcome to the Machine 3.5 Stars
The follow up to TDSOTM always felt like a bit of a letdown. The Floyd are masters of the slow build up but I do wish they would just play the damn song sometimes. There are plenty of cool synthesized sounds and the songs (all 4 of them!) are pretty good, but the atmosphere is curiously cold and sterile rather than momentous or trippy.
Pink Floyd has always been solid elevator music for me. Can't understand what makes this album one of the best rated ones🤷♂️ 2,5
On another day this might/would have ranked higher, but today, given that my general demeanor was meh, it did nothing to un-meh me, which music's gotta do hasn't it
Crazy Diamonds parts 1-48 could have been trimmed way down. Other songs were good.
Played-to-death, prefer Animals
6/10 Не понимаю тех, кому это говно нравится. Более унылого времяпровождения, чем прослушивание Pink Floyd, придумать тяжело. Shine On You Crazy Diamond и Wish You Were Here хороши местами, в основном где присутствует вокал, за них и поставил хоть какую-то оценку, но в остальном - унылая наркоманская хуйня.
Bro was on some stuff. Definitely id have sex to this playlist
Eh
Saw them LIVE in Phoenix. Good English band. "Have a Cigar"
Interessant album! FAVO: Wish you were here, Shine on you crazy diamond parts 6-390 ofzo
shoutout jad for playing crazy diamond for me on his electric guitar that one time. i now know which album that song comes from lol fake pink flyod fan right here... anyway. not really my style. 2.7. so 3
Very talented men. Kept waiting for something to happen in the album. But the album never kicked in. Just started then ended.
Enjoyable but think this would really depend how many edibles you've taken for this to go to the next level
Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd. Long synth-y songs. Eh.
Doesn’t feel like a complete package. It’s a soundtrack to something else, rather than being a destination in its own way. Pleasant, but missing something that Dark Side of the Moon has.
While I like all the songs, they’re not songs I want to hear very often. That being said, Have A Cigar fucks.
Some good music on the album. Enjoyed all the songs, but found Shine On You to be too long of a song at 24 minutes for all parts. 3/5!
For the first couple songs, I was worried there was no actual music. The build up for some of these 10 Min+ songs are far too long. The song, "Wish You Were Here" is stellar.
My Pink Floyd curve on this list started with a 3 for Dark Side. I’m very familiar with the band, and I know Dark Side is not my favourite, and I know they are simply not a five star band to me. I believe this one is my favourite, and according to the curve, it would likely land on a 4. Upon listening, it turned out the question was not “can Pink Floyd be a four star band?” but “Can Gilmour at his best elevate a 3 star record to a 4?” and to my surprise, despite liking Gilmour quite a bit, the answer was no. Good, not great.
This is pink Floyd doing what they do best I think
This was fine. The titular song is the highlight, the rest seems fillery at parts but goes down smoothly.
If this were an album consisting only of the title track, the song "Wish You Were Here", I would give it five stars. I've been shouting "TWO LOST SOULS SWIMMING IN A FISH BOWL" since I was a child. Unfortunately, this album contains four other songs that are, to me, profoundly uninteresting.
Great, but doesn't match the heights of Dark Side of the Moon.
Previously rated: The Dark Side of the Moon (3/5) The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (2/5) **************************************** Can't say this is bad. I just like my rock music with a bit more energy and excitement. Just a preference.
this one was not as good as dark side of the moon. very atmospheric which is not necessarily a bad thing, just not hugely gripping.
All time classic album
I liked the first track the best.
I’m not sure I’m musically gifted enough to understand how good pink Floyd were. Atmospheric but not sure if it’s my thing 3.2
I’d probably give it 3.5. Not really my type of music but I do like the song Wish You Were Here and the album has a relaxing vibe. I probably won’t listen again by choice. I appreciate how each song seamlessly transitions into the next - I feel like people don’t do that so much anymore.
pretty good, kinda boring
3- Stars (7/15)
I like Wish You Were Here but the rest is only okay. It's not bad, just not as interesting as other Pink Floyd.
Music that has depth is more timeless. Rhis style of music has depth. Gilmour's guitar tones are a plus.
Great album I'm sure, but I'm not a fan.
Super pleasant and felt cogesive all the way through. Title track is 10/10, the rest doesnt do too much for me but I enjoyed them.
:( shine on you crazy diamond 1 to 5- music certainly has been playing. the initial instrumentation is ok the guitar solo is psychedelic but nothing particularly interesting and when it gets to the lyrics its ok. 6 or 7. the sax goes crazy tbh though welcome to the machine- "where have you been? its alright we know where youve been" whyd you ask then. fake deep. im sure it was crazy back when it came out but now its whatever. 4 or 5. very boring have a cigar- 5 wish you were here- HOW I WISH HOW I WISH YOU WERE HEREEE WERE JUST TWO LOST SOULS SWIMMIN IN A FISHBOWL YEAR AFTER YEARRR. i feel like you have to like this song. i dont like pink floyd and i like this song. 7. also one time i saw this on a love song playlist and i disagree because i think this song doesnt feel romantic at all. i mean i know its about bandmates so thats why but i feel this song is more about the ache of a long lost friend. shine on you crazy diamond 6 to 9- ayo? ok. 5 divorced uncle type beat. favorite track- wish you were here
4 por Wish you were here. Igual un 5 al single, pero al disco entero no. Nada, un 3.
Cool. Pretty good moments. No complaints. Not my favorite proggy album but it’s fine.
Instrumentally they are insanely good but I find Pink Floyd to be a super boring band. All the songs blend into one giant similar sounding noise.
Interesting structure with long songs. Some good guitar.
I am sure this in an unpopular opinion, but I was never a big Pink Floyd fan.
Songs are soooo long and I feel like I should be on psychedelics while listening. Hard for me to appreciate it. My husband loves them.
3.5. It has moments of great and turd but mostly solid.
I like the album more now than I did when I was young. Not my favorite type of music. I can understand those who think it is an all time great....I just don't.
OK, so I have traditionally hated Pink Floyd. But I'm going to listen to this and list my thoughts - good and bad. Shine on You Crazy Diamond 1-5: Four minutes of oscillating tone and the song finally starts. Hooray! Some good guitar solos and drum fills in this section. Eight and a half minutes and we have the first verse. Hooray! Lyrics are solid poetry. They seem cliche, but I think that is me being cynical and viewing them thru the lens of hindsight. Saxophone was unexpected and I don't remember this on previous listens. I can dig it. Time signature change is interesting. Why only one at the end of the song. Welcome to the Machine: More long sections of long tones to start the song. At least this song gets moving quicker. "Where have you been? It's alright, we know where you've been" this line is terrible. What's with the redundant questions in this song. It's a mechanism that I don't think really works well. Have a Cigar: A song that doesn't fuck around in the intro and gets straight to it. Refreshing. A self-referential song about sycophants. Seems self-indulgent (Which one is Pink?). The drop to sound like it was playing on the radio was clever. Wish You Were Here: Nice acoustic solo at the beginning. This is the first song that I think isn't particularly pretentious and has something to say. Shine On You Crazy Diamond 6-9: At least this one starts better than 1-8. Bad part about bookending an album with a song is that it feels like you already listened to the song. This is amplified when the combined length of the two is 25 minutes and is half the album. Outro is too long, but at least not as boring as the intro to 1-8. Overall, I have to say this listen didn't really move the needle much for me. It's an album that relies heavily on it's concept, and it seems like it does so to build a story for the title track which is easily the album's best song. However, the other songs are uneven with the exception of Have a Cigar which suffers from being self-indulgent and lacks subtlety IMO. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is overrated and combines for half the total album runtime, which hurts the album tremendously.
I see they like to have extremely long intros on all their songs. I liked Wish You Were Here before listening to this album. After listening, I did not find any additional songs that I liked too much.
Creo que el primer álbum de Pink Floyd entero que escucho y la instrumental me parece de las mejores que he escuchado y lo he disfrutado mucho simplemente teniéndolo de fondo y apreciando la paz y calma que me trasmitía.
Different than expected in some ways. Enjoyed the lyrical parts but not as much the instrumental. Some songs sounded familiar (Shine on you crazy diamond - Beatles; Wish you were here - Harry Styles).
A new appreciation for a band I seldom listen to.
Muy bueno y tripeadito.
3,5
Jazzy rock. First and last song killed the album
Acid vibes. I liked it better than I thought I would. ✌️
nicht wirklich aufregend
Listening to Pink Floyd for the first time while being very much aware of their existence and influence was akin to uncovering the roots of beloved memes when discovering a new show. The instrumental opening segments of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" were a welcoming start to the day, though there's still something about the very airy, almost dry timbre of the vocals that comes off as harsh to my ears. As I explored the album further, "Have a Cigar" notably showcased an increase in richness, with the bass adding a much needed counterpart to the vocals. Overall, an enjoyable album but probably not one that'll stay in my rotation for too long.
3.5/5
Neat. Seems like a snapshot of a live show. Synths and guitar and a sax surprise. Who played that? Happy to listen, unlikely to replay regularly.
I understand why people smoke weed and watch laser shows of Pink Floyd albums. Sandwiching the album between two extended prog-rock suites is a fun way to build to the release of the middle of the album. The title track definitely serves as the high point on the album in terms of a traditional song, but for my money "Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 6-9" is the most fun, and funky track on the album. An undeniable and jazzy groove that kicks off about six minutes into the track feels like it should be the end point of the album. But this funky denouement turns to a melancholy final three minutes, possibly to show regret over the loss of Syd Barrett as their guitarist.
Not a bad listen, lot of instrumental on first and last tracks. Wish you were here is obviously the big song. Might be a fun listen while high.
The title song is an unbelievable masterpiece. Unfortunately, the rest of the album is so much more depressing in its sound. I mean, unbelievable work, but I really don’t understand the fascination of recording 11-15 minute songs for the general public. Experimentation is great, but those recordings can stay behind closed doors (or made available to those who really are interested) it really shouldn’t be on a mainstream album. Amazing musicians give this a 5, but “replayability” gives it a high 2. I’ll split the difference… solid 3
Schöner Klassiker. Hat Spaß gemacht das nochmal zu hören.
Wish you were here is the worst song on the album (maybe because it's over played on local radio stations.) But I like the others.
I think it’s cute that they made this album as a tribute to their old band mate who left due to mental health issues. I love the song shine on you crazy diamond. However the songs fade into background music as there’s nothing really keeping your attention. Would listen for a long drive or falling asleep.
Good easy listening album. Perfect for chilling in a hammock on a nice day. Songs are a little long for me but that’s ok.
It’s not their tightest work. Certainly some greatness in the soaring guitars and the lyrics of the lengthy tribute to their former bandmate Syd aka Roger Barrett, Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The title track is a 10/10 song from beginning to end. Makes the rest of the album sound more lackluster. Pink Floyd were at their best when they were relatable on a nearly universal human level, and that song hits that mark for the feeling of missing someone. It’s simple in an elegant way, musically capturing that longing.
3/5
I liked it more than expected. Love the album art
