those opening cords....wow!
classic.
Not their best, but a great album. It's crazy to know that all of their albums came over just a 7 year period. Lots of familiar songs you can listen to over and over again.
Classic.
Amazing album. 5 star lock.
Up there as one of my favourite Beatles albums. I Should Have Known Better.
First record of all originals, and it's ridiculous that there are no duds here. Encapsulates the early era heights before they start evolving.
Iconic
I mean, it's the Beatles..
Banger
classico, lembrou da viagem
Amazing. Perfectly timed for the day. A favorite album now.
And it’s not even my favourite album by the Beatles. Speaks volumes!
It's The Beatles, it's woven into the essence of my being, it's always been there because Mum loved Lennon. Even when I hear songs I don't think I know it turns out I suddenly know all the lyrics, like it's part of some collective memory we all have now. It's the ultimate pop record, but above all else, it makes me smile like a fool.
Perfect.
Even though I prefer their albums when they got more progressive, I love this album. Not a bad song on it.
classic
Nice
One of my favourite
Probably the best and most important early Beatles album, mainly because it's the first one to contain only original songs.
Good album.
Where the Beatles really started to show the strengths of their originality, evidenced by the title track and "And I Love Her". Delightful and sweet.
A hard day's night - 5 I should have known better - 4 If i fell - 3 I'm happy just to dance with you - 3 And i love her - 3 Tell me why - 3 Can't buy me love - 5 Any time at all - 4 I'll cry instead - 3 Things we said today - 4 When i get home - 4 You can't do that - 3 I'll be back - 4
I mean… It’s the Beatles. The Beatles are great. I’m certainly less of a fan of the bubblegum-y moptop stuff, but still, it’s great.
the Beatles are a national treasure, this isn’t their best album though
The thinking man knows that the early period Beatles (up to and including Help!) is second only to late period (White-Abbey Road inclusive). The middle period is innovative, but it doesn’t hold up like the rest. This is real good stuff, especially on Lennon metrics.
Literally the TikTok of all albums The longest song is 2 mins 30 secs The best songs on the album are concentrated mid-end but overall worthy of a 4
If this were a personal rating I would give 3 starts just because I think the best of the Beatles were ahead of them and these early albums do not resonate so well with me. That said, its undeniably an amazing classic, the songs are great and the deeper cuts even more so. Any Time At All is brilliant.
It’s hard not to give the Beatles anything less than four stars.
The beatles doing beatle things lol
One of the most famous and influential acts of all time, there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said of the Beatles up to this point. This is a great record though with fun, catchy, toe tapping pop rock tunes throughout. Paul and John were one of the greatest duos to ever lay vocals on a track and it’s fully on display here. Classic Beatles tracks like the title track, Can’t Buy Me Love, and the incredible And I Love Her along side the rest of the album all make for a to the point record. First of many Beatles albums on the list and a great start at that.
Yep, pretty good as expected.
Not my favourite Beatles album but still great. Lot of great songs on here. Favourite Track probably And I Love Her
First Beatles album in the challenge. I may have to re review some albums after I get through more artist catalog.
Veel interessanter dan wit album 7,5/10
Very catchy and breezy - Only a couple of real standouts besides the two big singles, and it’s hard to not compare this to how much better the Beatles would get, but this was still a really nice listen.
Not my favorite Beatles but great music nonetheless
Decent, with a couple big bangers (especially the titular track), but gets pretty repetitive - the same old love song, pretty similar melodies, and overall it feels a lot longer than its 30 minute runtime. Pleasant, but only one song actually goes into the playlist
I think my opinion on The Beatles is quite an unpopular one. I have never understood the huge love for them. I enjoy their music, but not to the extent that many people do. I can understand their influence in some aspects, but to me, their music just does not stand the test of time. For example, if someone were to release a Michael Jackson track today, I think it would do just as well as it did in the sort of 80s-90s period... but if someone released a Beatles track today, I think it would perform incredibly poorly. A lot of their music, compared to today's standards, is just lyrically and melodically bland, and almost generic in a way. Being said, for what this is, and putting the context of their time period along with this album, I can really appreciate the music. There were some tracks that stood out a lot more than others. I think, as an album, this isn't the strongest work. From what I know, I believe they have much stronger albums with top-to-bottom well-received tracks. In all, I did really enjoy this listen, as negative as the review may sound, my opinion was just really based on The Beatles as a whole, and how their music stands the test of time today. However, I think it is unfair to rate this album compared to music today, and listen to it in the correct context. Favourites: Can't Buy Me Love A Hard Day's Night Any Time At All
I won't be surprised if their entire discography is on this list.
Finger the bum me matey, it’s a good one 4 stars
Standouts A Hard Day's Night I Should Have Known Better If I Fell And I Love Her Can't Buy Me Love Things We Said Today
Classic!
The Beatles' runaway success was earned. Their early stuff is a joy and a succession of pop banger after pop banger. It's not nearly so interesting as their mid-to-late-career run (starting at Rubber Soul), but it's still very good.
this was nice and barely believable compared to some of the other trash that was being released in this era, but this very much feels like the calm before the storm a year later.
Not the biggest Beatles fan but enjoyed this
Boy band Beatles at it's finest. I've always wondered what would've happened had those boy bands of the 90s been able to evolve like the Beatles did. But alas, their corporate overlords wouldn't let them. This is THE blueprint for the perfect pop album that record companies have been copying to get the ladies creaming their panties. It's why my older sister won tickets to New Kids on the Block. My wife loved em, too. It's why stepdaughter was obsessed with One Direction & Justin Bieber. I had to wait in line on Lake Shore Drive for hours just to get to Soldier Field to pick her up. The Beatles are the pioneers. The first. The will not be the last. 4
Obligatory.
Classic
It sounds amazing with headphones
Never listened to that one, very good
Pre ACID era moody bluse ig... LOVE LOVe LOve Love love good vibe by feels like you are listnening to the same lyrics just with a little bit diffrent beats (Some really outsending like: I fell, And I Love her,Thins we said, Hard Days)
Pretty solid early Beatles sounds
Another very good Beatles album (though there are a lot to choose from). It didn't become my new favorite, but I had a wonderful time with this one. Their sound really progressed so quickly and it's been fun listening to these albums for the first time so close together this year.
Good
Short and sweet. Pop gem after pop gem packed in to 30 minutes . The way it should be. It is astonishing how much they evolved over only a few years, feels like they were about for decades
for some reason I never quite liked Beatles, though I really like 60-70's similar US music. From where I am from, Ukraine, and I was born during the times of independence from the Gulag land (aka soviet union), but my parents had to literally risk their lives to get a hold of foreign music. I have a couple of vinyl recordings of this album that I inherited, and they are the crappy soviet version ones, from the times when the ban on foreign music was majorly lifted and soviets were producing their own crappy records. What I realized is that I never actually fully listened to this album, though I heard all of them songs separately. And I gotta admit that I really liked the album, even not being a Beatle fun. It's a bunch of horny talented boys from 60's who were good with the romantic songs and catchy rhythms. I bet back in the day it was revolutionary. I found this to be vary nice and cute experience! p.s whoever commented with an amogus with giant pengus and a one start has got to chill lol
Short and sweet. Kind of reminds me of the Beach Boys with its surf-rock/folk combination. I've got respect for the Beatles and their catalog. I don't think this is their strongest album but it's solid.
Tis The Beatles he, je kan er niet op haten. Extra shout out naar "Can't Buy Me Love"! (4)
Probably not going to be my favourite Beatles album, enjoyed it, no idea what to say in these reviews, great album.
I found their last album, With The Beatles, to be very middle of the road and not that exciting. Here you can really start to hear their improvements and style start to take form. Likes: A Hard Day’s Night; If I Fell; And I Love Her; Can’t Buy Me Love
I mean yeah, the Beatles know what they were doing with this album.
Yeee
very top very melodic I thought it sounded nice. It felt like a really easy lesson. Nothing was grading. It was all very pleasant on the ear. I loved how the voices I just kinda loved all them singing altogether at once even when there was no harmonies I really liked it however, I do feel like it’s very repetitive in terms of lyrical vibe and also kind of like melodic construction, but really good in terms of like it’s like catchy and light and dance
Back in the day, when I was a young child, obsessing over the likes of Michael Jackson and The Beatles, I consumed every bit of media I could find of both. Magazines, DVDs, Casettes, CDs, movies. The last one is where this comes in. I've watched the entire "A Hard Day's Night" movie. I have never listened to this album until today, June 1st, 2026 (well as I write this it's actually May 31st but shut up). Arguably The Beatles' first genuinely good album, or perhaps genuinely great, depending on who or how you ask, this album has some BANGERS. Obviously, title track and “And I Love Her,” but there’s frankly not a moment in here (other than maybe that wack-ass second to last track) that feels out of place or bad. Just a really great collection of early Beatles songs. 9.4/10
That opening chord. One simultaneous strike across guitar, bass, and piano that lands like a door being kicked open — one of the most analyzed moments in music history and still completely thrilling six decades later. Whatever the exact voicing, the effect is immediate and unmistakable: a band announcing itself with total confidence. A Hard Day's Night is the only Beatles album composed entirely of Lennon-McCartney originals — no covers, no borrowed material, just the two of them writing at a pace and quality level that no band at this stage of their career was approaching. The consistency is real. The songwriting doesn't dip the way some of their other early records do, and tracks like "If I Fell," "And I Love Her," and "Things We Said Today" show a melodic sophistication that points clearly toward everything that was coming. Four Beatles records into this project and the hierarchy is becoming clear. The White Album and Abbey Road both earned fives — one for its extraordinary breadth and songwriting density, the other for its timeless craftsmanship and seamless execution. This one sits honestly below both, which is less a criticism than an acknowledgment of how remarkable those later records are. Early Beatles at their most confident is still a four-star record by any reasonable measure. The opening chord alone is worth the price of admission. Everything after it earns its place.
Smooth. And is this the first Beatles album to sound . . . mature? So good.
a classic ofc
8.5/10 It's got some catchy tunes and some of my favorite Lennon vocals. Despite being one of my favorites here, 'You Can't Do That' is not helping Lennon beat the allegations.
Some of the best early Beatles songs.
fav songs: a hard day's night i should have know better if i fell and i love her tell me why can't buy me love catchy, melodic, timeless 80/100
wow we're 2 albums in and ive already heard one, big fan of a hard days night personal favourite is happy just to dance with you funny i mentioned the beatles last review too
not the best beatles album but still a banger
Me gustó muchooo. Todos reconocen a the beatles
I loved the overall feel of A Hard Day’s Night — it captures that timeless Beatles energy. I do wish it had a bit more musical diversity, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with The Beatles. Their sound is iconic, and this record proves why they remain unmatched.
Son los Beatles, nada mas que decir
4.5
I love their early stuff, and this album had some really good songs! But something was kind of lacking here, and definitely not their strongest work A very high 4 ⭐️
Hey hey, it’s the Monke—the Beatles! I imagine this was the last record before their mid-run evolution. Although I never listened to the album (!) or saw the movie (!!), I already knew all but one track. That’s how prevalent and catchy the Beatles output from this period is. The problem is that these are very pretty pop confections, with a single subject matter - love. They are cotton candy, gossamer and unsatisfying. This Beatles era produces the rare “not a 5” content. Fun, frothy, frivolous.
Not my favourite Beatles LP, but still full of catchy melodies.
It made me feel very interesting as a person and what I try to build my appearance to display and I think that comes from the unique atmosphere it builds.
much better than i remembered
Classic old Beatles, fun to hear some of the lesser known tracks
so good but just cant compare to the best of beatles' albums
What is there left to say about The Beatles that hasn’t already been said? This is great soundtrack album, for a great film. Really excellent early Beatles album that’s fast paced, poppy and fun.
25/1001 A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles (1964) Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Given that, counting individual members, over ten albums containing one or more Beatles member take up space on this list, I knew my day was coming, and perhaps it was a good starting point considering it was the first album of theirs with all completely original songs. The opener, which also acts as the title track, is a strong start; from that iconic opening Fadd9 chord through to the end it's a delight. 'If I Fell' is a saccharine but sweet all the same track revolving around George's 12-string and the way John and Paul's voices weave around each other in that shared mic to create a charming harmony. The four note right ear acoustic riff on 'And I Love Her' is addictive, and the shock of being dropped in to 'Tell Me Why' subsides when you realise how much of an earworm it is. 'Can't Buy Me Love' doesn't even buy you dinner, because it jumps right into its chorus and John's crunchy guitar solo with its own ghost solo underneath it. 'I'll Cry Instead' and 'When I Get Home' doing their best country and Motown impressions, respectively, aren't my cup of tea, but it all manages to be fun. And what better way to close out an album than with the cowbell-driven 'You Can't Do That' (and 'I'll Be Back' but honestly I forgot it the second it was done). A short, sweet, joyous album that totes the line between essential Merseybeat and Jangle Pop at times. Not their best, but not too bad at all. Not as psychedelic and trippy as their later work, a great comfort album. ★★★★
cool
Yeah. Real good.
I love sunshiney 60s pop and early Beatles do a great job at it. It is hard to separate the Beatles from their later work of masterpieces. However, not every album needs to be a masterpiece, sometimes it is just okay to have a collection of pleasant songs. Favorite Track - Any Time At All Least Favorite Track - If I Fell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Even I’ll admit the Beatles were pretty good.
quite pop-y. kinda fun. You can get the iconic "beatles" style here. nothing really stands out or anything. But I can see why this is in the list. So a 4, normally a 3. Also TIL, there are A LOT of beatles albums in this list.
Beatlesi ♥️ ovo mi nije ni u top tri njihova najdraža albuma (a stvarno ih jako volim) i samo zato: 4/5, 7/10
Can’t go wrong with classic Beatles
It’s a decent pop-album carried by the 3-4 very good songs. The rest is okay, just not great. Favourites: And I Love Her, Eight Days A aweek, A Hard Day’s night and I Should Have Known Better.
Man that one flew by quick Title track of this album’s great, definitely one of the most iconic songs of that early era for them. “I’m Happy Just To Dance With You” and “And I Love Her” are also nice; there really aren’t any songs that just suck. Album is pretty well paced where no song overstays its welcome. Not usually huge on harmonies but it just feels right for the Beatles Biggest flaw with this one and really most of the early Beatles stuff is just how safe and straightforward every song is. Most of this album is pretty damn catchy so I’m fine with overlooking that flaw, but compared to some of their later stuff it definitely sticks out Even though this is only our second Beatles album on this list it’s still cool to see how much they evolved between this album and Rubber Soul. Don’t think this quite has the legs to be a 5 but cmon it’s the Beatles
Yeah I can't deny I'm a Beatles girlie. Love John Lennon's whiny voice, something about it feels so raw. Lots of catchy tunes in there. It's just remarkable how these guys were just dicking around with instruments and managed to have all these neat little sequences in their music. It's high energy (that's your classic rock 'n' roll tunes) with a pretty dang good performance. There's just some good tunes in there!
Irgendwie bissl eintönig ^^ aber gut hörbar
Short and sweet. Certainly not the best of the Beatles but revolutionary in 1964
A pure pop-rock record where the band takes a step forward with songwriting and musicianship (and they will continue to do that). A bunch of short love songs with consistently delightful melodies - which is where this really shines. It’s straightforward and not as interesting or yniqir as later Beatles albums, which makes me less likely to revisit it often. But it’s certainly influential, and a fun listen overall.
I like the Beatles in albums of this length
I mean I'm almost going to give this a 5 for what it was and partially for what it still is. That said, there's some really weird instrumentation choices on this, like what is that a hand drum in the background of the title track? Or the cowbell? Or the weird drum on "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You". But the harmonic play on this album is luscious and while it still harkens back too much to what came before for my taste, in other words it is too staid and kinda boring for it, it is also beautiful at times.
I grow more fond of The Beatles the older I get. This album is packed with well known songs and even the few unfamiliar ones are good. This album is the group at their early poppy stage.
This album is so very fun, excited to see the movie! You can tell that they're starting to come into their own, and this album is definitely better than the previous two. Not bad, interested to see where these guys end up! Notable tracks: A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love.
Excellent album. Very few meh tracks. Love the George Martin jangly guitar stuff.
This is a mixed bag. A few of their best early songs and some of their worst (though even my least favorites, such as Tell Me Why and When I Get Home) are pretty alright). To me, this is probably tied with With The Beatles for their worst album, their worst was still very good!
Not my favorite Beatles, but I love it!
classic!
I liked this album better than other early Beatles albums I have listened to. I am still not super into early Beatles records but this one was pretty good.
First Beatles album on the list after 230 albums! So exciting to finally rate them, for me they really take of with the Rubber Soul, bit this is a really good album, still despite that, I will rate this no more than 4 stars. First side btw is much stronger than a 2nd one
Honestly, I wont tell people I hate the Beatles anymore after hearing this album.
Standalone: the album is great, but compared to the other beatles albums, the first half feels lazily made
Here they are. In my opinion, the perfect place to start with them as their fame reached well-documented dizzying heights ahead of this release. The band begins to truly find themselves here, with Lennon and McCartney writing all the material here, elevating the results and impact. There’s a nice flow with all these short but not half-baked tracks. Not my personal favorite of theirs but still very good. 2 listens Favorite Tracks: Can’t Buy Me Love, If I Fell, Title Track
Expectation: -> The Beatles are understandably one of the greatest bands ever. However, I've never chosen to listen to them so this will be a first. After listening: -> This is a very very good album. I listened to the 2009 remastered version. I have not researched where this 1964 album fits along their career path but there are certainly some familiar classics. I like every song and have a new appreciation for the band for sure. This is pushing a 5. Track ranking: Hard day Buy love Fell Love her Tell Better Any time Happy Home Said Cry Back Can't
I've never been a huge beatles fan. I'm sure it was great when they were novel but at this point the music sounds derivative because music is derivative of them. Still a good album though. Lots of hits and I enjoyed listening to it
A lot of solid songs, but some of it felt a little to Beach Boys-esque for my taste.
I'VE BEEN WORKING LIKE A DOG Favourite Songs: A Hard Day's Night, And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love. Least Favourite Songs: I'll Cry Instead, When I Get Home.
Quite good. A bit poppy for my taste, but no bad songs on it.
Its not later experimental Beatles but its still good Beatles!
Sind halt die Beatles. Mag aber andere Alben lieber als das.
Just banger after banger. Early Beatles are the best Beatles. Love the jazzy/swing progressions. And Harrison's intricate noodling is so underrated. 4.25*
The first more mature Beatles album. They're growing up. Music all written by them includes some more somber, introspective songs, and those are the ones that I prefer. Didn't realize how much A Hard Day's Night leads into Rubber Soul. In terms of growth and development, it makes it a much more interesting album than the earlier ones. The day before my album selection was the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society. I shall argue that the Kinks' songs are more interesting, by and large, than the Beatles', at least in terms of lyrics, but this is a darn fine out and a good harbinger of things to come.
I knew a few of the big songs but hadn't heard the rest. It was good, but some of the poppier songs come across a bit cheesy to me. The last half seemed to have more interesting rocky songs.
--A Hard Day's Night...still don't know what that opening chord is --I Should Have Known Better...John's voice cuts right through --If I Fell...always found this one a little boring but it has fantastic harmonies --I'm Happy Just to Dance with You...pretty generic 50s dancehall stuff. but these blokes are able to add harmonies and other flavors/spices that put this over the top --And I Love Her...beautiful bolero-style ballad --Tell Me Why...not as tight as other recordings. were they a little drunk? --Can't Buy Me Love...never cared much for this one but it's a solid groove --Any Time at All...not one of their best I do love John's voice here --I'll Cry Instead...a blast from their rockabilly past. it seriously moves --Things We Said Today...fantastic. pure elegance --When I Get Home...this one lacks the focus of preceding tracks --You Can't Do That...John's first attempt at "Run For Your Life". methinks John needed therapy --I'll Be Back...a lesser "And I Love Her". still good
A classic. So well produced performed and written it’s hard to believe how old it is.
Longest song is 2:43. That's badass. This is a good record, mate.
For me this is a real mix of great songs like 'and I love her' and a hard days night which has the iconic opening chord. Let down by a few fillers, but overall a really good early Beatles album.
the beatles just have the sauce man I didn’t want to like it but I liked it. it’s like they have some sort of spell that just makes their music good I don’t know how it works 4 is a like from me
Beatles first album where they have writing creds for every track (I believe) This is a good step up from the bubblegum covers they have done previously, and while I have nearly every song from this record saved, it can’t be a 5 imo. This record doesn’t scratch the surface of what the Beatles would eventually become, but they really come into their own on this record sonically and lyrically. This is a very safe and by the numbers record, which I think is why it’s so palatable. It’s also like super short. Very formulaic imo but that’s the point. These dudes were way ahead of the game in that regard. Easy 80-85/100 and if they didn’t have such a stacked catalog I’d say this could be a 5.
The Beatles at their growth stage. This is all over the place with styles and sounds as the Beatles wanted to find what worked can’t buy me love and hard days night are two songs that influenced the rest of their discography they started making songs like this. I think the Beatles had song great deep cuts here and the record is about love through song through the songs sound samey with the chorus being so loud vs the verse. You start to catch it after a few listens. I have this album on cd made the experience so much. This is easy listening which was fun to hear most of the Beatles sing a song sorry George haha
I tried watching this movie once. I didn’t really like it. But when you remove everything except the music, you end up with a pretty good album. Obviously their later stuff is more experimental and interesting; that’s the kind of stuff which makes me love the Beatles. But this is still really good. Super fun pop melodies with some great guitar work and vocals. “Any Time At All” was a surprise standout considering it’s not one of the huge songs from this album.
The fountainhead. That opening chord is like an artefact from another civilization. Unbelievable in places but still on a human, relatable scale.
A little corny but i like it
Totally fine Beatles album and love the first iteration of Lennon/McCartney songwriting
My rating 4.0. Another Beatles album another classic.
Clasicón hermoso
13 songs, 30 minutes, 6 bops, 7 kinda same-y album tracks that are fine. da beatles
When the Beatles finally decided to embrace their creativity. Everything is short n' sweet here, as the iconic writing duo of Lennon/McCartney really starts to shine starting at this point, given the inclusion of more original compositions. The production is tight as well, really showcasing the harmonies of the quartet as well as the jangly pop sound that was sort of new for the group at the time. Hard not to compare this to their more experimental and advanced works that would soon follow, but this was effectively when the Beatles found their own sound.
The hits (can’t buy me love, title track) are good, but the rest is close to indistinguishable from the host of other 60s rock we’ve had. Light 4.
It’s a pretty good album full of Beatles songs. I don’t particularly care for them but you could do worse playing a record to a mixture of white people of different age groups.
Like most people I prefer the latter half of The Beatles' discography, but this is probably the strongest record from their poppier early era. As with most of their early output, this album's characterized by catchy guitar-driven compositions with great use of harmonies that do the heavy lifting to carry the often (though not always) trite lyrics and subject matter. It's an enjoyable listen from start to finish, and the songs are short and snappy enough that they never really outlive their welcome. While it's not an all time great album, it has a lot of great songs all the same. Favourite tracks: Can't Buy Me Love, Things We Said Today, A Hard Day's Night

A Hard Day’s Night: 8/10 Classic I Should’ve Known Better: 7.4/10 MBPW If I Fell: 7.4/10 MBPW (rlly cute) I’m Happy Just To Dance With You: 7.4 MBPW And I Love Her: 7.5 MBPW (So romantic omg) Tell Me Why: 7.4/10 MBPW (Angelic voice) Can’t Buy Me Love: 7.4/10 Any Time At All: 7.4/1” I’ll Cry Instead: 6.8/10 Things We Said Today: 7.2/10 When I Get Home: 7.2/10 You Can’t Do That: 7/10 I’ll Be Back: 7.3/10
7/10. My first Beatles album as a 26 year old human. Happy to report that (for the most part) I enjoyed it. I can only imagine that I'll be seeing them again before too long.
Listening session: april 6th, while crocheting Listened to before: listened to some songs before Thoughts: just like most people on here I prefer the later Beatles stuff so I don’t listen to their earlier albums that much, but I quite enjoyed this album. The harmonies are really nice and of course the songwriting is top tier Favourite tracks: If I Fell, And I Love Her & It’s A Hard Day’s Night
Classic again.
A beautiful folksy love record, would be a great way to start a Sunday morning
I really enjoyed listening to this album while cooking something new and sort of hectic for the first time in a new kitchen I’m not used to cooking in. The food tasted like shit but I had a good time and the essence of the album probably made it taste better than it did.
Great album. Even before there most creative & experimental phase, the lads could write and execute a tight song and album. I’m noticing more & more how stalkerish some of their love songs were — sign of their time & place, I guess. A 4.
It only took 35 albums to hit my first Beatles album. I think this is one of their better early-Beatles albums.
Understanding these guys pop roots goes a long way in appreciating their full body of work. That being said, the songs are catchy, the harmonies great and the smile’s everlasting
I very rarely listen to early Beatles stuff, so I wasn’t too excited going in, but A Hard Day’s Night was genuinely enjoyable. It’s only 30 minutes long with 13 songs, full of Paul and John collaborations and lots of love—literally every other word. The album runs fast, and it’s hard to believe it was made in 1963. The recording is impressive, and its influence on music is undeniable. It’s fun, light-hearted pop, and while some songs get lost among the famous singles, the album itself is never boring. Vinyl? I already own it. Wine pairing? A cheap but solid Italian bottle works, or just an English lager. Food pairing? Give me an English breakfast, pudding, or maybe Shepherd’s pie. Overall, I’d give it 4 out of 5.
Great album
Hard to put a Beatle under 4 brah
I enjoyed this much more than I expected / remembered cus I think I listened to it a couple years ago but cant remember. the vocal rasp on this record is honestly great and a couple songs are just stun and I love her dude any time at all banger but ill be back incredible the acoustic guitars here sound excellent I didn't expect to enjoy an early Beatles record this much and like a couple songs are just like silly songs for teenagers like im happy just to dance with you but I had a wonderful listening experience !!!
3.75
4/5 estrellas
I almost hate to say it but I liked this album. don't always like the lyrics and how they talk to women but it definitely has bops. would listen again
Not a Beatles fan in particular, the album does have some good songs, although one of the classic Beatles album.
It is a Beatles album.
Bueno
Very enjoyable listen and extremely short & sweet, the way I usually like an album to be. The poppy, no nonsense tracks all have a pleasant vibe to them and I can imagine it was a hit at the time of release. I'm not usually one to praise the Beatles - to me their music doesn't usually hold up in the modern day, but this album was still enjoyable, upbeat & interesting throughout. 8/10.
Really just a cute pop album overall. It was a pleasure to revisit early Beatles. Each song is short and sweet. We hear lovely vocal harmonies, fun chord progressions, and a strong foundation for their evolution.
Even before the drugs kicked in, you couldn’t deny the chops this band had, with harmonies, chord voices, and a sense of pop brevity that leaves you hungry for more.
Classic songs
Definitely the best Beatles album we've had, very much 'of it's time' without any experimental turns but they are actually good at this sort of music. The pop rock here is ahead of any of the copycats that would follow. I'm the right mood I could listen to this again but it's not a genre I'm particularly keen on. Still, nice to find that it's quite good as well as hugely influential. 3.5.
Classic, straightforward Beatles. Still not a fan, but this blitzed through. The title track and the last track, I'll Be Back, were the best. I never know where I land on them - they covered such a range of styles and genres in just 10 (or fewer) years. Sometimes Revolver, sometimes Rubber Soul, sometimes the White album. Very rarely With the Beatles.
Likes: First half is just classic after classic; Lennon-McCartney in one of their most focused efforts; sonically cohesive, but musically distinct Dislikes: great tracks are front-loaded, which leaves the back half feeling flat by comparison; Lennon-McCartney at their poppiest Overall, a great record. Not my preferred era of Beatles, but so many of the tracks are undeniable classics that it doesn’t matter
great album, not my fave beatles but solid
Good, classic pop music.
Classic Beatles, very listenable, all very well-known but still quite nice!
Now this is what I would have thought an early Beatles album sounds like.
the instrument of the 60s was the harmonica
A good album very much of the time
classic album great tunes
Yeah, maybe not as ambitious or boundary pushing as some of the 'core' Beatles albums but damn is it fun and consistent.
Not my favourite Beatles record, but still very solid. Favourite tracks: A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, Tell Me Why, Can't Buy Me Love.
An expertly crafted pop album... But when you're a band who raised the bar so high, it's not quite a perfect Beatles album.
Another iconic Beatles album, even heard a song or 2 that I liked and hadn’t heard before.
Not one of my favourite Beatles albums but nevertheless still a classic!! (I already knew the songs)
A hard day's night - 5/5 I should have known better - 5/5 If I fell - 5/5 I'm happy just to dance with you - 4/5 And I love her - 5/5 Tell me why - 3/5 Cant buy me love - 5/5 Any time at all - 5/5 I'll cry instead - 4/5 Things we said today - 5/5 When I get home - 3/5 You cant do that - 3/5 I'll be back - 4/5
Pop era Beatles is sometimes hard to put in right perspective. These are. Simple pop songs but all as catchy as hell...
Gran disco.
Classic
my favorite early beatles album. Almost every song could've been a single, actually the singles are the ones i like the least. Just like people have favorite beatle eras, i've had favorite song eras. One of the first was Things We Said Today, later Happy to dance with you, If I fell, I'll be back. Never seen the movie, but i always remember the animated series with several of these songs. Great, fun, memorable album
Early Beatles pop - brilliant melodies , groundbreaking at the time . Playing with structure with a supper tight precision. Love the interplay of John and Paul’s voices . Somewhat quaint and naive lyrics about love but pleasant none the less. Has dated a little but still worth listening to.
Ok
Easy listening, surprisingly good. Not much of a Beatles fan 6.5-7/10, pleasantly surprised but nothing groundbreaking for me
Favorite Track: You Can't Do That
This album is my childhood. So many good ones - dated in terms of some gender issues but still so fun.
Good old Beatles

I discovered this website yesterday. And since I basically listen to the same songs every day I was in desperate need of this. As someone who's never listened to a Beatles song in their life I was more than pleasantly surprised at this. The temptation to give it 5/5 was very much there but I found that I enjoyed the first half of the album more than the last. Probably because I prefer the snappier, fast paced ones but even songs like "And I Love Her" or "I'm Happy To Just Dance With You" really appealed to me. This is definitely a top notch album, with my favourites being "Can't Buy Me Love" or "A Hard Day's Night" (or maybe "I'm Happy To Just Dance With You"). Either way I'll listen to this a lot more for sure.
Ladies and gentlement; The Bungles!!! Almost every album they did after this, is better (I say almost because of Beatles for Sale, always forget about that one), but it's hard to dismiss it nonetheless. People love A Hard Day's Night and And I Love Her with it's sweet guitar solo, they're classic! Can't Buy me Love is also quite liked I think! And I personally have a thing for I Should Have Known Better and Any Time At All! Love those two! Then I forgot about I'm Just Happy to Dance With You before listening for this for the 1001 exercise and it's catchy as heck! The last few songs are a bit weak and nothing on the album is ground breaking per se but I'd feel bad giving just a 3 for an album full of good fun bungles classic track! It's a-bang for your Bung (les)! God, I'm tired...
Not my favorite Beatles album
Good albums! Good jams! I have no critical thoughts I just had a nice time!
I listened to this about 3 times in the course of a couple days and at first some of it felt overplayed and very for radio (such short songs) but I grew to love it more and more. My favorite is Any Time at All, most gritty
A Hard Day’s Delight I’d give this one a 4.25 out of 5. There are a few absolute classics here, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Can’t Buy Me Love and A Hard Day’s Night. Safe to say I’ll be adding a few more to that favourites list now. The production still sounds surprisingly fresh, and the songwriting is just sharp. Tight, catchy, and full of charm without feeling overdone. You can hear how locked in they are as a band, and it’s hard not to admire how effortlessly they make it all sound. I sometimes feel like people either want to knock The Beatles because they’re so famous, or hand them five stars automatically because of the name alone. But stripping all that away, they’re just great musicians writing great songs. Simple as that. Had a genuinely good time with this one. It’s fun, confident, and packed with songs that you can just listen to again and again.
Fast and focused. Like a lot of early Beatles, it's quick and down to business putting out little songs, but with a little more bite in this one. Not all the songs are memorable but there are hits on here and a consistent tone. Highlights: And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love, I'll Be Back, Things We Said Today
A model album for me. Short and to the point with its songs. Songs are well put together and great individually as well as collectively. Just lacking the exclamation mark and the variety for the highest score. 4/5
Muy bueno muy cursi muy bueno
Album No. 0164 on my list. "A Hard Day's Night" is the second Beatles album on my list, and because it's a relatively early one, the one of only two on the 1001 album list (together with "With The Beatles") that is not considered an uber-album (if that is even possible for the Beatles). This may be because it's a) relatively old and b) not so much an album as one consistent work, but rather a collection of songs, so the album itself matters somewhat less than the singles on it (in contrast to everything that came with/after "Rubber Soul"). Anyways, of the early Beatles albums, it's probably my favorite. I.e. in this context, it's the one with the most good songs. Of these, "A Hard Day's Night", the title track, is probably my favorite. Love the iconic chord at the beginning, and it's a great pop rock song, too, with great shared Lennon/McCartney lyrics. Other favorites include "I Should Have Known Better" (a classic early Beatles song), "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" (great George Harrison singing), and "Can't Buy My Love" (another McCartney Classic). I'll add all these to my playlist, especially because they represent all the early Beatles singing configurations: Lennon/McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, McCartney (sorry Ringo, you did sing some of my favorite Beatles songs ever, they just came later). The rest of the album is also not bad, but again: it's more a collection of songs, and not all of them are as great - as was custom at the time, there are some fillers here. Anyway, this is still the Beatles, and the four mentioned songs are just great: 4/5 stars!
I did not expect to be this entertained by the Beatles, but I had a good time listening to this album. They sound so old, but is so entertaining, I like this album even tho is not my style.
not my favourite Beatles album, but I still really like it
Feels like a 5 coming on the heels of a Stones album
Much better than the White Album! Pretty good songs all around. I'm always surprised by how many Beatles songs I _don't_ know.
Precious, sweet and easy to listen to! I am partial to the first half of the album, I felt myself getting lost in the second half. I enjoyed the closer and would play the full album through on a lovely spring/summer day.
Very short but still super sweet. A hard days night, if i fell, cant buy me love and any time at all are my favorites on this lp.
fun n catchy music
its good but slightly repetitive
full of classics
Icônico. Filme bom também. Mas prefiro os Beatles dos últimos álbums.
Excellent music and vocals. Simply incredible for its time.
Timeless pieces of music
Not many bands rival the revolutionary arc that the Beatles went on, and I feel like A Hard Day's Night is the right place to start that story. While there is not a ton of foreshadowing on this album in terms of where their music would go, I feel like you can hear how talented, tight and capable they already were in the early days. You can hear the influences that Paul, John and George all had on this album - different vocal and songwriting styles they were each developing. I do think I need the context of their whole career to appreciate this as much as I do. At face value, 10 songs about holding hands is a little much. I still got lots of enjoyment out of this but probably wont go back to there really early Beatles songs anytime soon.
I love the early Beatles stuff! Not quite a 5 but almost!
Rounding out an excellent week of music with another 4 - Beatles and not my go-to music, but I really enjoyed this album today
It’s the Beatles, need i say more
“Bright are the stars that shine Dark is the sky I know this love of mine Will never die And I love her” One of my least revisited Beatles records but at a tight 30 minutes it’s always worth a quick spin. The highlights are unsurprisingly the title track and “Can’t Buy Me Love” but “And I Love Her” is a really beautiful song. In the context of their whole discography you can probably call this a bit of a filler album which was mostly designed to accompany the film (if it were practical I would have rewatched that as well). Still, there are few bands that could piece together a “filler” album that contains so many excellent songs. “A Hard Day’s Night” would for most other bands constitute their greatest ever work. For The Beatles it was just another small step in the journey.
Een aantal klassiekers, prima plaat
Continually better than their previous, inching ever closer to the exceptional band they would become, but not quite arriving. The songwriting is strong, the music is fun, and the album is enjoyable to listen to top to bottom. We're still in this world of 50s/60s pop, but you can already see that they're pushing it...beyond, in some inexplicable way. Solid album.
The Beatles’ third album was a landmark achievement: their first to consist entirely of original material and the soundtrack to their iconic debut film. It is an optimistic, sharp, and melodic record. Here, you can truly hear the evolution of their song writing, moving beyond simple "boy meets girl" pop tropes. This growth is evident from the "big bang" opening of the title track to the wonderful "Can't Buy Me Love," which features a superb guitar solo from George Harrison. The ballads also reach new heights; "If I Fell" is a stunning composition with intricate vocal harmonies and tasteful instrumentation, a standard of excellence matched by the timeless "And I Love Her." While The Beatles are my favourite recording artists, I have tried to remain objective. Musically, "A Hard Day's Night" is a very strong 4-star album, with eight of the thirteen tracks being five star tracks. But for me, it just misses out on that fifth star. This is primarily due to three tracks on the album: "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You", "I'll Cry Instead" and "When I Get Home". There's nothing wrong with those tunes other than they lack the quality of their counterparts. I certainly understand why many grant the album a perfect score given its immense cultural impact, but looking strictly at the music, it is a formidable "near-perfect" collection. The sessions for this album were incredibly prolific, also producing the tracks for the "Long Tall Sally EP". This EP included: "Long Tall Sally" (a blistering version), "I Call Your Name" (which arguably deserved a spot on the main album), "Slow Down" and "Matchbox". I mention these because if some of these tracks replaced the 'weaker' three star tracks on the album we would be talking a five star album! Before this release, many critics dismissed The Beatles as a "flash in the pan" or a fad that would vanish by Christmas 1963. By delivering 13 high-quality original songs and a critically acclaimed film, The Beatles proved they were far more than a pop fad - they were serious artists. Side One 1 "A Hard Day's Night" (5/5) 2 "I Should Have Known Better" (5/5) 3 "If I Fell" (5/5) 4 "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You" (3/5) 5 "And I Love Her" (5/5) 6 "Tell Me Why" (4/5) 7 "Can't Buy Me Love" (5/5) Side Two 1 "Any Time at All" (4/5) 2 "I'll Cry Instead" (3/5) 3 "Things We Said Today" (5/5) 4 "When I Get Home" (3/5) 5 "You Can't Do That" (5/5) 6 "I'll Be Back" (5/5) Total - 57 Average - 4.38 245/1001 135/245 albums reviewed were new to me
Ahh, the Beatles. I last had them with Abbey Road at album #49. This sounds nothing like that; while it's still the Beatles, it's more of a standard pop record of the era and less of an innovative rock record like many later Beatles albums. Lyrics are standard Beatles fate, and most songs are very simple and poppy. Therefore, despite being all-original songs at a time when many pop records would put out covers, it is a basic pop album. And I don't consider any basic pop albums to have nearly the same influence as later Beatles. So I guess it stays a four.
An early example of the Beatles' songwriting prowess. Nothing groundbreaking by today's standards for sure, but in 1964 this was still revolutionary! It doesn't age quite as well as some of their later fare, but this is still an excellent collection of songs.
The Rubber Soul prequel! Fun to hear the band at the turning point, right before they reach their full power. Also just a great, catchy album, period! Standouts: I Should Have Known Better • Tell Me Why • Can’t Buy Me Love • Any Time At All
So solid. A 5 for anyone else but damn, it's The Beatles. Crazy that they could make an album for a movie solely capitalizing on their popularity and both the film and the album are really good. The humor on songs like I'll Cry instead really sets this apart from other albums of this time and the songwriting is very solid. Things We Said Today is peak McCartney before he discovered carnival instruments.
It's a very innocent and sweet love album. McCartney and Lennon shine through a lot with their energetic performance of the songs. It's not terribly profound. It only really scratches the surface of love, but doesn't go any deeper. The limitation probably arises in connection with contemporary customs for song length for commercial and partly technological reasons. A Hard Days Night would really benefit from longer verses, 3 verses or c-sections, so you can really dive into the material and sing more directly to the listener.
It's The Beatles, not exactly my preferred era but hard to truly go wrong.
All Beatles albums are enjoyable but only a couple make my 5 star level. This isn’t one of them.
I don't know, man, ask me to give a 5 star rating to the concept that fried eggs are a breakfast food item. Technically this seems pretty good, even if generally I'd be more in the mood for Huevos Rancheros over just like normal sunny side up eggs with white buttered toast.
Solid Beatles album for sure. Not my fave, but solid.
Fascinating to hear more early stuff, such a tight band
Not their best, but some classics in there. Enjoyed it as would do with any Beatles. Got better as it went on
Classic Beatles that's hard not to enjoy, probably because there are some well know tracks on the album. It's from a 'romantic' period for the band rather than some of the odd (but still good) albums of later years.
Classic Beatles. Seems so simple, but still lovely.
4 Stars (11/15)
Two great songs.
listened to before good album not in my top 3 for the beatles though
A Hard Day's Night 5/5 I Should Have Known Better 3/5 If I Fell 4/5 I'm Happy Just to Dance With You 3/5 And I Love Her 3/5 Tell Me Why 3/5 Can't Buy Me Love 5/5 Any Time At All 5/5 I'll Cry Instead 5/5 Things We Said Today 4/5 When I Get Home 3/5 You Can't Do That 2/5 I'll Be Back 3/5 Overall Album: 3.69
- i lije yhe lyrics - i really like what they did with this album - SOOO catchy - made me twist nd shout lowk - well put together album
A solid pop album, listened to it in one sitting. For its time, it was pretty high-level.
you know, i can't believe this was my first beatles album! whatever this was a vibe
It’s good. Very catchy.
BEATLES MANIA!!!! UGHHHH!!! I love the Beatles their suave vocals, sweet melodies and beautiful music is something that few bands/groups can do but they nailed it perfectly, this album has some of my favorite tracks. Fav is George ;) another great classic.
Bangers. It's dangerous when vocalists cover their songs. 4.2.
Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Not my fav beatles album but all their stuff is good
better than peppers
Bright, catchy songs. Every song is fabulous.
Classic Beatles. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed their earlier stuff until i went back and listened to all of it. Solid hits and cool deeper cut tracks
I mean it's the Beatles right? Iconic everything. This is not my favorite album of theirs or sound really, for me everything kicks in from Rubber Soul on. But we know every single song they put out is at least a 3/5 if not higher. I can't believe this is the first Beatles album I've gotten. All I can hear before even starting my listen is that chord kicking off 'Hard Days Night'. I'll repeat myself this is not my favorite of theirs, 'If I Fell', 'I Should Have Known Better', 'Can't Buy Me Love' are all seriously amazing songs.

fave song: a hard day's night
The first Beatles album I actually liked!
Didn't think I was that into early Beatles, but this really had some bangers! In particular, I Should Have Known Better and Any Time At All really stood out. Still not that into Can't Buy Me Love, but wonder if that would have really hit when the world was in black and white. Overall, sold!
very 80s obviously. good but not in the mood.
Love it 4/5
The good songs are as good as Early Beatles can be, but the bad ones are BAD. Thankfully the good ones outnumber the bad by around 11:2, so that's great Movie's a nice time as well
So many love songs.. abit too many for a 5 star but incredibly ahead of their time and amazing song making 4.5.
Nice warm feeling album felt homey an real but overall just a really good album nothing that completely blew me away
A bit plain-sounding, compared to their later work, of course, but still great.
It's hard not to grade Beatles albums on a curve. It seems like we are going to see most of their discography and solo albums too. The hits on this one are good, but not my favorite. I'm a big fan of If I Fell, And I Love Her, and Tell Me Why. The second half is not nearly as strong.
7/10
Tell me why is a banger. Title track bangs Can't Buy Me Love is a cracker If i fell, decent Its clearly great, but its not 5. I just prefer latter half beatles. 4
I love this album! “And I Love Her” is my favorite song. I adore this sweet early era of the Beatles. These songs make me want to dance! 🕺 The melody and harmonies on “Things We Said Today” are haunting. “You Can’t Do That” is not my fav—it does not age well. I love the Spanish guitar they use on this album!!!
"8/10" - baeli "7/10" - robert
a classic for a reason
Classic!
Beatles are my favorite band of all time, but you can sort of hear how this early album is very cookie cutter and presented as what was then considered like - new wave pop. Some absolute bangers on there though. Reminds me of childhood.
Just a classic album
Classic Beatles album. Of course it’s a banger
The Beatles... what else can be said?
start of rock and roll
Always has been one of my favorites from The Beatles especially pre-rubber soul era. Lots of great memories with some of the more popular songs from this album as well as the movie. Really start to see the talents of Lennon and McCartney song writing start to shine here. An easy listen and great to hear them start to find their stride. They are the best to ever do it and look forward to hearing a lot more Beatles albums with this challenge.
Solid classic Beatles
Good album. Hard to give the Beatles anything below a 4 star.
Liked Songs: - A Hard Day's Night - I'm Happy Just To Dance With You - Tell Me Why - Can't Buy Me Love - Any Time At All - You Can't Do That - I'll Be Back
Fun album with some cool psychedelia infused. Was that intentional, or is that even accurate? Not sure, but regardless, the Beatles doing what they be doing. Churning out ultra catchy ditties.
Beatles beat all
When I’m in the mood for a Beatles fix, I rarely reach for anything pre–Rubber Soul. Because of that, it had been a while and coming back now, I appreciate the songs and the songwriting a lot more than I remembered.
