青春啊

This is the album that made me a fan

A classic

Iconic, no question. Not my favorite music nor my favorite band, but it really takes me back. And the movie is hilarious.

A whirlwind of 60s pop-rock at its finest, with an unstoppable energy that only the Beatles could really pull off in early 1964. This is an incredibly consistent album with some seriously infectious hooks and countless moments that would make musical history - starting with the very first chord in the opening track (what chord is that, anyway?). The hurried, catchy adrenaline-rock of A Hard Day's Night leads into several more "poppy" tracks with I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, and the George vocal I'm Happy Just To Dance With You. We get a pristine, flowy, Latin-influenced ballad in And I Love Her, before the band starts firing on all cylinders, blasting the listener with track after track of excitement, fun, and love (or lack thereof) - perhaps the most famous being Can't Buy Me Love. Uncharacteristically for the band, the album ends on a more mature, almost introspective note with I'll Be Back, which sees major-minor interplay and beautiful harmonising in the vocals. The instrumentation - with excellent guitarwork, drumming, and singing - is there. The harmonies, melodies, and songwriting are there. The lyrics, however straightforward they may be, are easy to remember and insanely catchy. This is a 10/10 album if I've ever seen one. Key tracks: all of them

Amazing

Their earlier work was less innovative but we're talking about the start of the nine most creative years in art history so . . . no notes.

Imagine having a band still in its infancy, and having a better songbook than 95% of the music released for the next 59 years. This isn't the best Beatles album by any means, but has simple songs that have stood the test of time. I was ready to toss this app out the window with another mediocre album. No questions here about the validity of this being on the list. I rummaged through drawers and my desk to break out the harmonica and play along with "I should have known better." ❤️

Music never was the same. Cohesive big sound Just the appetizer

Not enough Stars to rate this album…the songs from this movie Boomed my young little mind 5 years or so after it came out.…then I started buying albums as I got older & Boom all over again. It’s Fab.

It’s The Beatles. Easy 5

Every song is great. Sounds as good now, 60 years later, as when it first came out. When you have talent, it stands the test of time

I loved this album when I was a little kid.

A Hard Day's Night becomes ten thousand times better when you know what other music had been coming out in the '60s. It's perfection. Catchy hooks, unrelenting energy, and songs so timeless that you still seek it out nearly 6 decades later. I particularly loved how as soon as I read the title of this record, the song started playing in my head and got me eager to run through the entire album. Clearly, they were one of the best to do it. Standouts are the titular track, Can't Buy Me Love, And I Love Her, & Any Time at All.

They changed up their sound after this album so I think this is one of the albums that best encapsulates that Beatlemania sound

One of my favourite Beatles album. Highly recommend it. Definitely worth checking it out

The rockers are so ecstatic - The title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Tell Me Why”, “Anytime At All”, "I'll Cry Instead", “You Can’t Do That” - pure Beatle-boot stomping rush every time.

I’m a Beatles fan. Sue me. So listenable with a bunch of their best songs. Of course I’m giving it a 5/5

Probably overall one of my least favorites by the Beatles but still an ez 10.

And I love herrrrr

Great collection of Beatles hits. Not as experimental as later albums will be, but still lots of fun catchy tunes. The vocal harmonies are spot on.

This came out right in the heart of Beatlemania and I’m sure it felt like a bomb went off. Energy oozes off this record, hands down their best pre-drugs album and John’s overall best work (10/13 are his writing). Paul’s songs are no slouches either. Whole lotta fun.

Easy 5 stars here, great album

It's not their best album, but it's their first album of all their own material. And it's pretty damn good material. If asked why you need to hear this album before you die, someone would probably say there was this group that changed music forever and this was the first time it was their lyrics and their compositions. That gives this album a bump. Plus, anyone born prior to 1990 probably knows more than half of these songs - that's how big they were and how much they have lasting power. I'd say 5 of the 7 songs on side one and at least 2 of the 6 on side two are classics. Easy to listen to, easy to love.

Classic

Great record

love it :-)

Had to watch the wonderful film before listening to this one again. The Fab Four at their fabbest.

They be famous someday!

What a fantastic album! Great musicality and love the blending of their voices. It’s a kind of balance between their first upbeat, joyous albums and their later more introspective ones. Standout tracks: A Hard Day’s Night, I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, And I Love Her, Tell Me Why, Can’t Buy Me Love, Any Time At All, I’ll Cry Instead, Things We Said Today, When I Get Home, You Can’t Do That, I’ll Be Back 9,5 out of 10

Some fantastic, iconic songs on this album. Loved it

Brilliant. Nothing more to be said.

The best album of The Beatles early period (aka before Rubber Soul). Really can hear the progression from the very early bubblegum pop (I Want to Hold Your Hand; Love Me Do) to broader, deeper, rock and ballads. Fantastic to hear the writing of only John and Paul and see their growth over the early days. It's always been EITHER the Beatles or the Rolling Stones .... two groups, two totally different talents and styles. I don't begrudge the Stones fans, but the Beatles are my choice by miles.

Already know I love this album.

I mean, c'mon. If you can't find the delight and musicianship of early Beatles totally infectious than you are probably having a bad day. But the idea of rating the Beatles is weird to me, like rating Da Vinci. I don't think this is their best - a little uneven tune selection toward the end - but I have a hard time objectively comparing it to Roxy Music or Fiona Apple. Lately, I've been getting more into their covers, particularly of Motown tunes like "Please Mister Postman," in which John's vocal is more emotionally tortured than anything Detroit produced.

This was always going to be good! Some excellent songs on here. Slight debate between 4 and 5 stars, but I could easily listen to the whole album and not dislike any songs, so it gets a 5 :)

Favorite Tracks: A Hard Day’s Night And I Love Her Can’t Buy Me Love

Wild that there were only 2 singles released from this album, given that nearly every song is widely known now. Love this album and The Beatles. LEGENDS! 5.0

Heard it a 1000 times

Obviously doesn’t quite reach the heights of Abbey Road, but that’s not going to stop me from dishing out another fiver! Still banger after banger. For balance the film only gets a 4 from me. So I am capable of less than 5 when it comes to The Beatles. Simpsons: Obviously.

My favourite Beatles album so far. Every song under 3-minutes, and a total length of 30-minutes is perfect. Would change my Abbey Road score to 4, and Rubber Soul to 3. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Total classic

This was the first album I ever borrowed from my mom's collection. It's still brilliant and I love the cover.

Classic

This is the best early Beatles album. Released at the height of Beatlemania, this album showcases more confident songwriting and features more interesting and sometimes brooding instrumentation. Again, it's incredible to think just how ahead of the curve the Beatles were.

I know every word to every song. How can this not be 5/5?

The song, "A Hard Day's Night" has become one of my favorite Beatles songs. I went from not liking the Beatles when I was younger to truly admiring them, now, and I think this album is a perfect example of what they did for Brit Pop and Rock, in general, especially for the time. I still prefer early Zombies, but I can't deny the genius of the Beatles.

kenn ich schon

Ground breaking album!

The Classic! Great tunes all around

Truly great album. The harmony's especially

This album RIPPED. The Beatles were so ahead of their time with songwriting and production. This album is so fun and captivating. To me, it’s sentimental because this is my grandmas favorite era of the Beatles. As a kid I remember listening to this album. Anyways, it’s a perfect record for what it is.

It’s incredible. I mean, really, what more can be said? Hit after hit roll past as you listen to the album. It’s absolutely astonishing they were already on their third album at this point, just cranking them out. But the truly amazing thing was how much better they were getting. It’s just mind boggling. John is doing the majority of the singing at this point, which I prefer for these tunes anyway.

Great memorable tunes ... one of the Beatles best albums.

Love the Beatles!!!

I love this album

Classic. Each song brings the energy and who doesn't like some love songs?

This album is just amazing :,) maybe I’m biased bc I grew up listening to the Beatles on the stereo in the living room during family dance nights so their music is so nostalgic for me. But they are just so talented and have such a unique sound. They wrote and composed their own songs so I mean their the GOAT imo

5 stars. Duhhhh.

'A Hard Day's Night' is the best Beatles album in the pre-Rubber Soul era and the only album until Revolver thad only had Lennon-McCartney songs and no covers. It is 60 years old this year but it still sounds fresh and it's so energetic it is always fun to listen to. The hits are great but I also love the B-side, especially the opening 'Any Time At All' which is one of my favorite songs from their early era. Personally, I love this album also because I got into the Beatles (and later to all other bands in the 60s & 70s) when I turned on the TV at age 10 and 'A Hard Day's Night' film was about to begin. All these songs from the film are so memorable to me for this reason and who knows how and when I would've got into the band if I hadn't seen the film back then.

Paul Mcartney probably could have taken a shit, then pressed it into vinyl and I would listen to it and give it 5 stars. These songs have been playing throughout my entire life and when I hear the Beatles I feel like I am home, but it is impossible for me to listen and rate them objectively.

Simple but great, excellent compositions

Amazing album. Nothing more to say. 10/10 love it!!

Classic

I would have to say for the number of hits and amazing songs on this album, it has to be the best Beatles album of all Beatles albums.

Me gusta mucho

After all these years, this is the first time I've listened to the entire album. they were definitely innvative, even then. I lave the chord changes.

Awesome, love the beatles

One of the many great Beatles albums packed with 3 minute hits. This was not long before they discovered the studio and everything they could do there. They were still touring in ‘64 when this came out Great great album

could only get the one song, not the whole album, but it was awesome

Just perfect pop. Lennon and McCartneys ability to harmonise is just amazing.

All time classic rock band. Just love their music. Feels good, sounds good, catchy, Beatles are iconic and will always be a fav.

It's pretty darn good

Quite good, one of my favorites. 5 stars.

That chord is probably the most iconic intro to any song or album ever.

It took over 200 albums and solo albums by every Beatle except Ringo but we finally got a Beatles album! And what an album! This is probably one of my favourite early Beatles albums. It has such a collection of short but great tunes. "Any time at all", "Things we said today", "And i Love her"... the list goes on and on. I know it's a boring opinion but the they really struck gold with their sound. While not their best album i still think it is a 5. How can you not like it? My only gripe is the use of cowbell, who put it in the front of the mix?

No fa falta que l'escolti, ja sé què posaré Expected Lorenzo rating: 4 o 1 perquè és un hater

Another brilliant beatles album. Total coincidence that last sentence spells out ABBA.

Ganz wunderbar. Mag ich von Anfang bis Ende.

Can you imagine hearing the opening chord for the first time in your life? What an amazing album, not even among their very best, but here they start to explore more widely the sonic playground, taking the world along for the ride.

Solid Beatles album

The Beatles don't deserve anything less than a 6 yet I can only give a 5

What's not to love? 30 minutes of perfectly crafted pop songs.

Besta plata ársins 1964. Það þarf ekkert að ræða það frekar. Mjög mikill Lennon, en þríeykið hans Pauls er ekki síðra.

13 tracks, 30 minutes, no misses, and no way of stopping Beatlemania.

10/10 album

Classic tunes

Favourite Beatles album? I’d have to say, the best of the Beatles. 4.8

I mean, it's the Beatles. Great album.

First half is perfection

The Beatles at their poppiest, most consumable peak. Love or hate them, this is a landmark album for music in the 20th century, period. It’s a masterclass in commercial appeal and branding; they courted a global audience, they wooed the pants right off all of us with such finesse, and ultimately they struck solid gold paydirt, on which they built their vast musical empire.

I don't know how they never wrote a bad song. None of their songs are my favorite, but all of them are good. None of them are too boring or unoriginal to enjoy.

I think it is kind of hard to appreciate how good and breakthrough early Beatles work was when it came through. Now it sounds like so much that has come after it that maybe it feels classic but maybe a little dated. But then you realize that that’s because it changed everything - the top albums in the US before the Beatles hit were from broadway soundtracks, Andy Williams, and the Singing Nun. In that context this is mind blowing music that is still great today but even more amazing given how much it transformed pop music. This came out in 1964… the first Black Sabbath album came out in 1970.

A classic album (and film) with so many great tracks: the title track "A Hard Day's Night", "I Should Have Known Better", "If I Fell", the beautiful "And I Love Her", the ebullient "Can't Buy Me Love", plus "Things We Said Today". Part of my soundtrack for the early 1960s.

Fab 4 still fab!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Lets go I love the film. First beatles album I've gotten so far. They’re just so far ahead of everyone else at the time. John’s younger voice is so good here. Rating: 4.6

The Beatles are one of the most popular and well known bands to ever exist and I completely understand why. I loved this album. I was not excited to sit down and do my homework, but how could I be in a bad mood while listening to The Beatles? I will listen to the entire thing again (maybe tomorrow) 5/5

Hit after hit after hit. ...

Catchy motherfuckers

Is it the Beatles best work? No. But don’t let that take away the lightning in a bottle that this album is. This is a masterclass in pop music. Short, sweet, catchy, everything you could ask for in a pop album. And at just over 30 minutes they managed to waste absolutely zero time here. You could argue every other song on this list could be a #1 hit, and for all I know they maybe were. As the first Beatles album on my list, it didn’t disappoint. Highlight: A Hard Day’s Night Lowlight: n/a Surprise Hit: And I Love Her

Man they really be working like a dawg

Classic, beautiful

The Beatles are essential as always

Its the The Beatles! This album contains several of my favorite songs and is consistently great throughout. One of my favorite rock bands of all time! Favorite Song(s): "A Hard Day's Night", "Can't Buy Me Love", "You Can't Do That", "I'll Be Back"

banger! Love me some beatles. Fun to sing on karaoke nights

Efficace, dispose d'une cohérence d'ensemble sans pour autant qu'on ait l'impression d'entendre toujours la même chanson, quelques grands classiques dont la chanson titre, excellent album.

Already knew this one, early-ish Beatles

Love this album. I've listened to it before and loved it then, and I love it now.

It’s the Beatles…

Not my favorite Beatles record. I prefer Rubber Soul and later. But this record is a banger for it's time. And while others here will continue to say the Beatles are overrated... Well there has been a lot of shit on this list from '64. None of it is really any good. None of it takes risks or defines a generation of music. So on that merit, this crushes.

Awesome album. It is the Beatles after all.

It's the Beatles. It's 5 stars. Tracks I liked: The whole album

Classic album full of well known songs.

John Lennon at the height of his early powers. Vocals outrageous. Good film too.

Iconic.

Come on guys it's the Beatles: saw this album and felt unsure on whether it would be the banger I was dying for but how wrong I was from double-guessing. It's true to say that the early Beatles isn't as experimental and as clean as the later albums but lord it's still a good time. Just four boys playing good 60s rock and it will alway bang and idc what anyone says about that.

4,5* Niet hun beste album maar wel weer nice hoor

I've heard plenty of songs from this album but had never listened to it the whole way through before. Really great.

Amazing writing of songs

The first sound of this album is one of my favourite sounds of all time. It instantly makes my day. I can have this on repeat forever, the songs just make me so happy.

It's the peak of early Beatles. They haven't started branching out into exploring other sounds, so they would make better records later, but they're seasoned songwriters and performers by now, and it shows.

Watch the film. Cracking

I mean it’s the Beatles

It's the Beatles, say less.

Pretty good

The whole THE BEATLES thing is annoying as hell and I'm always tempted to reactively underrate them because of their obnixious place in the pop cannon, but then you hear the albums and try to forget that stuff and, well, damn... This album is all Jangle and Swagger, incredible melodic and harmonic sensibility combined with propulsive energetic playing, high tempos - like they're impatient with the boundaries of the pop-rock song and about to burst beyond it. Tried playing along on guitar and the changes come so fast, incredibly restless music. The John-led stuff hits hardest of course.

Banger after banger.

I have always liked the poppier Beatles albums. Liked it when I was 5 years old and I still like it now.

Beatles = vinilo.

Listening to the Beatles has been a favorite part of this project because although so many of these songs are very familiar, I’ve never listened to the albums. I’ve loved finding that there is a clear story and progression to each of the albums that I find so intriguing. This is clearly when they took off and when they still were making performable music, as well as it being the soundtrack to a movie I really feel stupid for never having seen. This is the apex of the “early” Beatles and so wonderful to listen to! (Is it horrible to admit that I only know “I’ll Be Back” because of Stars on 45? I keep hearing the segues!) I got the Beatlemania bad with this one!

I was happy to be Beatle-y today.

A couple of very familiar tunes, a couple of tunes I know best from Stars on 45, and then some I hardly know at all. It's not my favorite Beatles but it's still The Beatles.

I’ve seen the movie and remember most of these songs, but can’t recall if I ever listened to this album. Regardless, it was so long ago I didn’t remember a lot of this album. Pretty easy to see why these kids took off.

One of the best Beatles albums

Album 108 of 1001 The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night Rating : 5 / 5 Favorite Track : Can't Buy Me Love Finally get a Beatles album. Early Beatles. I like both incarnations, but the earlier recordings are just so iconic, to me. This album is the first to be made up of all originals, the majority actually being Lennon tunes. Such an awesome album (the original UK version being the one you want to listen to). Awesome tunes, great harmonies, some great guitar. While some tunes are stronger than others, even the weak ones beat what anybody else was doing at the time. (arguably since the that time, as well). Have to go with a 5. I could argue otherwise and compare it to some of their later stuff, but I'll just judge it on its own. Many would disagree, but the songs support it.

The Beatles establishing themselves as bona fide songwriters. Pop-tastic.

Did not like it

It’s the Beatles, what are ya gonna do. Incredible amount of bops off one of a string of albums changing music and society. Can’t and won’t knock the hustle

5 stars for If I Fell by itself, you know?

Symbolic.

Normalement c'est un 4 mais vu la purge de la semaine dernière c'est un 5 largement mérité

This has always been my favorite Beatles album because I think it was the first one I really got into. I love this one. It is straight ahead catchy pop. It’s just the perfect early Beatles album because you have the drums and bass driving the music. The harmonies. The lyrics. The catchiness. It’s all just there. Do I love other albums by the Beatles? Certainly. But this my first love and my favorite.

At this point I’m running out of things to say about Beatles albums so I’m just gonna give it a 5 and savor it since I’m pretty sure let it be and maybe magical mystery tour are the only two left (I don’t remember if I got help already). I’ll just say that this one is definitely better than with the Beatles and the white album but clearly doesn’t hold a candle to revolver and abbey road. Title track and can’t buy me love are the favs.

Seminal

Dude... it's peak Beatles! Nice short, boppy songs. Memorable. Easy to listen to multiple times. 30 mins total - no overstaying their welcome. Thank you very much you brilliant bastards!

Their first LP completely written by themselves, and it shows. These songs are eternal, ever surprising, and as energizing as ever. The non-movie B side of the record shouldn’t be skipped; “Any Time at All” might be one of the most overlooked songs in their catalogue, and “I’ll Cry Instead” hints at the country roads they’d be exploring in a few short months.

absolute perfection. the best song is "and i love her"

One of the most iconic first notes of any album. Classic.

Probably the first great Beatles album, they are in fine form. Imagine hearing this in 1964, not knowing what’s to come. That opening chord - A G9/A - apparently The guitars playing a G7 and the piano playing a A major. Can’t buy me love. All my loving. A hard days night. If I fell. All of it. McCartney finding that melodicism. Lennon’s lyrics. Even the George song isn’t his worst. Stunning even in context.

Dimery, all is forgiven man, well kind of, I'm still up for a Manassas bonfire. If anyone out there wants to join me, send me a telex. An EC album followed by two Fab albums, la dolce vita. And Thomas Paine fans, what an absolute cracker it is. This is easily in my top 5 mop top albums of all time, and after many, many listens it often gives my all time fav the White Album a nudge. So, height of Fabdom, endless, endless and I mean endless touring. Hey time to make a movie - as one does- while we are blowing up the western world. They have chart topping singles everywhere and yet out they pop out an album of 13 originals (an astonishingly rare feat in 1963), some of which are tattooed onto the zeitgeist, as omnipresent as a Hamlet soliloquy. So yes Dimery and his gang of henchmen are right, you need to listen to this if you want to properly prepare yourself for the endless nothingness that is death. And wouldn't it be nice to shuffle off the coil listening to Lennon sing the last track on this record, I'll Be Back? And speaking of the dead, boy this is a Lennon record, 10 of the 13 tracks are mainly his, including songs that are forever chiselled into our collective memory such as the title track, If I Fell, I Should have Known Better et al. The B side includes many a lament as to the realities of life on the road, When I Get Home, Anytime at All and one of this pretend writer's favourite all time mopster tunes the aforementioned I'll Be Back. Paul is still quiet on the writing front with only three tunes mainly penned by him, but great gosh a mighty they are all absolute crackers, Cant' Buy Me Love, And I Love Her and one of his all time classics in Things We Said Today. Meanwhile the band deliver a brilliant performance, man they are tight and yet the tunes are redolent of all their many influences, shoved through the George Martin "Beatle" sound, a sound they pretty well keep up until Help. Harrison is at his creative best here, and his use of the 12 string Rickenbacker, well you all know the rest. With the ubiquity of so many of the Hard Day's Night moments, it is hard to fully appreciate its magnificence, as both a brilliant pop record and a crucial marker in the development of 20th (and 21st...) century culture. Yet another step towards changing the way we viewed ourselves. And it is a hell of a lot of fun. They made the world a happier place.

There are more great tunes on this album than most bands manage in a career. But albums in Australia at the time of this release cost £2/12/6, an amount I was never likely to accumulate. So until I was given a reel-to-reel tape recorder for xmas 1964, I just knew these tracks from the radio. I clearly remember getting dressed to go to school & listening to Can’t Buy Me Love the morning radio stations here were able to play it. I remember thinking it wasn’t quite up to their earlier singles although I loved the flipside, You Can’t Do That. Soon the Ella Fitzgerald swing cover version of Can’t Buy Me Love was a Top 40 hit. It was 4 months before the A Hard Day’s Night single & album were released in July, by which time they’d shot the film & toured Australia. The flipside of that single was Things We Said Today - the value you got from their singles & E.P.’s was amazing. That was followed by I Should Have Known Better, backed with If I Fell, & by that time radio stations were all over the album trax like a cheap suit. Particularly the glorious And I Love Her, which was a single release in the U.S., but not here. But also I’ll Cry Instead & the beautiful closing cut, I’ll Be Back. I had most of it on tape by January 1965, off the radio. Just thinking how lucky I was makes me smile. Like all their early albums, the remastered cd gets a regular flogging around here.

It is hard to rate the Beatles, because, you know, they're the _Beatles_ and their records have become part of the DNA of popular music. Hard Day's Night is one of my favourite Beatles albums, and one that I regularly pull off the shelf to play all the way through. It's a full on pop album, with increasing confidence in the studio, and less reliant on the (admittedly thrilling) rock and roll adrenaline of their previous albums. No covers here. Bob Stanley said "If you had to explain the Beatles' impact to a stranger, you'd play them the soundtrack to A Hard Day's Night. The songs, conceived in a hotel room in a spare couple of weeks between up-ending the British class system and conquering America, were full of bite and speed. There was adventure, knowingness, love, and abundant charm." I love the punchy, all-killer-no-filler approach. No song is over three minutes, and there is not a wasted second on this record. The tunes are all cracking, the production un-fussy, the band rocks (dodgy solo in "And I Love Her" aside), the hooks are super catchy, and the whole thing is slathered in charm. It's the ultimate Beatlemania album. Five stars!

Still magnificent

These are some genuine Beatles pop songs. Even before they gave us a glimpse into the psychedelic world of music they gave us an album full of bangers you can belt out in the car. You Can't Do That is one of my favs from my childhood. MOAR COWBELL

All bangers really. Early Beatles get way less attention then it deserves

Although initially made for the film it still stands as potentially one of the top three beatles records in my opinion. Flooded with classics and in my opinion has the greatest A side to a record ever. best song: a hard days night worst song: i’ll cry instead overrated song: none underrated song: im happy just to dance with you.

про любовь

Best pop album ever made. Beats Thriller, 1989, Rumors... It's a fucking top to bottom, unstoppable stampede of bangers.

What a classic. So many lives and careers based on this album and subsequent releases. I am forever grateful for the decades of consequential music that has improved my life and made me very happy. 6 stars.

I decided, what the heck, I have a free evening. So, I decided to listen to this album, watch the movie and then come back to the album. I recommend the movie, which was beautifully filmed and is just great silly fun to watch. The album and the movie don't relate to each other at all really, and you don't need to know one to enjoy the other. As for the album itself, it's a masterful work, full of delightful pop songcraft, refreshing musical substance, and a copious amount of toe-tapping hits that pretty much everyone knows. The album is a joy to listen to front to back, with no real duds, and teeming with creativity and charm. George Harrison's guitar work in particular stands out as something really special in the landscape of what was going on at the time musically, but the whole band is on fire here. We might forget because we know these songs so well, but this album must have felt like such a breath of fresh air when it came out. It's the spark of everything that came after it, not just for the Beatles, but for everyone else. How many artists in '64 do you think were putting out full albums of their own stuff? Flash forward a decade, and it was more or less expected if you wanted any credibility as an artist. The Beatles did that. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): I Should Have Known Better, Things We Said Today, And I Love Her, If I Fell, Can't Buy Me Love, Any Time at All, A Hard Day's Night, Tell Me Why, I'm Happy Just to Dance with You, I'll Cry Instead, You Can't Do That, When I Get Home

When you consider that the title track is my first musical memory, it's no surprise I love this album. They were on the greatest roll that any band has ever had.

Fantastic! Easy listening and good music.

5 stars, I love this album, I grew up with this music playing all the time!

Pop perfection!

The first completely self-penned album. Excellent throughout.

Classic early Beatles. Was surprised there were a couple songs I wasn’t that familiar with.

A classic and a personal favorite. The best of the early Beatles albums. Nice and short, with tight songwriting. The song "A Hard Day's Night" is one of my favorites. I relate to the lyrics -- that feeling when you've been working hard and you're exhausted and the only thing you need at the end of the day is love and attention. I love how in addition to sweet love songs, there are flashes of jealousy in the lyrics too. Similar to the Beach Boys album we had on this list, "The Beach Boys Today!" which came out a year after this, there are moments where the speaker of the song reveals his insecurity and lashes out at his girl (like on "You Can't Do That"). John Lennon in particular seems interested in capturing the good and the bad of new relationships. I also love this late turn "If I Fell": "So I hope you see that I Would love to love you And that she will cry When she learns we are two" What a thing to say to a girl!

I really love this record right from that mysterious first chord. The more raw early Beatles sound is so fun and attractive to me. This record has 3 amazing Beatles tracks on it: "A Hard Day's Night" "And I Love Her" and "Can't Buy Me Love" Each is unique and special in it's own way and some of my favorite Beatles tunes. Probably 3 of my top 15 Beatles songs right there.

Gee whizz it's those loveable mop-tops! Lot of hits all aimed at teenage girls. The professionalism and artistry of the songs is a thing to behold. I guess this is more to do with what it means rather than that it is. Good, well written pop tunes.

Not my first listen.

common Beatles W

An absolute classic, can't help but to give it 5 stars. Especially after the "cum on Eileen" album I had to muster through yesterday

This was a perfect album for Valentine's Day with its 13 love songs. This album is a total classic filled with hooks, harmonies and well written songs. Some fillers here and there but even those are better than the usual early beatles fillers. Good album. 9,3/10

14 songs, 34 minutes, the melodies, the harmonies, so many good songs, a great cover and a pretty decent film too.

Fantastic album...I can listen to it over and over... There is nothing better than good old Beatles...

A classic album.

These mop top scamps gang raped me in an alleyway on New Year's Eve 1966. I've never felt so alive.

Great Beatles album, good songs, enjoyed the listen

This is where the Beatles started to become the Beatles. Assured songwriting, with swagger and a wink.

I know a lot of people prefer their later stuff, but I love basically every Beatles album. This is the stuff I grew up on. I probably know every single lyric in this album. I don't even have listen to the album to know I'm giving it a 5 star, but I gave it another listen for fun. I must say, it was a very fun record to revisit. There's a nice energy to it. My favourite songs are probably I'll Be Back, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You, and If I Fell, but it's hard to pick favourites.

I'm not the largest fan of the early Beatles stuff. I've listened to all of it through many, many times, but they still had a lot of "filler", but here we are starting to see their evolution into what they were going to be come. It's hard to rate it less than 5 stars since it's great music but it's almost unfair compared to what was going to come in the next years.

Didn't like it that much on the first listen, now I love it.

Bueno Vale, que las chord progressions están para el coñazo e la madre de majestuosas. Tremenda clase de songwriting, eso sí.

This album is the culmination of the Fab era of the Beatles. Still innovative as heck, if a bit more reserved than where they’d go. I’d list some highlights, but there’s so many.

I simply can't fathom myself not giving the Beatles less than 5 stars. That's just me. 13 songs in 30 minutes and 9 seconds. Not a single track over 3 minutes. And when you are done, "You unplug and you run, run off stage."

It's the Beatles. Get over yourselves, they are absolutely fundamental to the history of popular music and a hell of a lot of what went after them owes them a debt. After two albums filled with covers (people forget about that) this is the first full set of originals and packed with classics. The harmonies - If I Fell? - the energy - HDN. If Can't Buy Me Love came out now it would be a hit.

Sure the Beatles get a lot of hate, but when a 13 track has nine easily identifiable songs to a layperson, you're doing something right. A Hard Day's Night has hokey, cliché, sugary songs that in the context of 1964 is exactly what the pop music buying public wanted. 4.5/5.

The music was festive. Just good old music!

The album, movie, band and mania that changed everything.

Yeah it's great stuff, they could've done well for themselves.

One of those every all killer no filler albums. a pop gem.

Faut faire abstraction de certains textes plus misogynes, mais côté mélodie, accroche, rythme, facilité à entraîner son auditoire, c'est génial

Such fantastic songwriting and performing. I’ve heard it more times than I can imagine yet I still love that opening chord that starts the title track and album. Brilliant album by these wonderful artists.

A classic

Very fun! A lot of familiar songs such as a hard day’s night and can’t buy me love

Probably would go closer to 4.8 if I could. Definitely a lil more on the one note side compared to later stuff but they're the beatles and nearly every song on this album is a stone cold classic so fuckoff.

As good as it gets

Clásico

What can you say that hasn't been said here. These are all great Beatles songs, and this album is just half the journey because it's the soundtrack to a great film as well. Some of Lennon's greatest vocals are on this album, and the whole thing just rocks from start to finish. Amazing.

One of my favourites. The best of the early Beatles era. Short album but just packed with bangers. 5/5

Classic. Love it

I’m not really sure what to put in the notes on some of these. Classic.

Loved all the songs

Great!

Masterpiece. Great early Beatles, and my favorite of their pop stuff. “Anytime at all” is a great early song hinting at what to come.

I hadn’t listened to a whole Beatles album before today. I didn’t like the mixing on Apple Music - too much going on on left speaker and not enough on right, but the music was excellent. Songs I already knew: Hard Day’s Night, Can’t Buy Me Love Favourite after listening: I’m Happy Just To Dance With You Overall: surprised by how much I enjoyed it. 9/10

5 stars. Classic. Nothing to add

Big surprise: the album is very good. Favorite track: Things We Said Today

An all time great album. Great collection of all Lennon/McCartney originals and the vocal work between the two is beautiful. Favourite song is hard to choose but I enjoyed the call-and-response chorus of Any Time At All a lot whilst listening.

Not my favourite theirs but given a 5 for cultural impact

Love this album. It's just banger after banger. Not sure if I'd heard the 2009 remaster, but I love the mix, with different instruments per ear, and vocals in the middle. 5/5

So many great Lennon vocals on this album! I love two minute long songs as well. The 2009 remaster sounds so good.

Reminds me of Saturday mornings at my parents.

"If I Fell" is one of the best love songs ever recorded, and "Things We Said Today" stops me in my tracks. This album gives me the warm fuzzies, and the film is a fun watch. I will always love The Beatles.

Supremo

Brilliant. I didn't realise before, but this is very much John Lennon's album. Only a couple of obvious McCartney tracks.

This is an album chocka block with quick fire pop bangers.

One of the beatles best, and I feel like this makes me lose a recent argument that I had regarding whether an album has to be "themed" in order to be 5 stars. Although there isnt any particularly clear theme for hard days night, the songs are all amazing and stand alone. 5/5

Genius. Even the less well known songs are almost perfect, and the bigger hits are among the best of all time.

amazing album. best early beatles album imo

It's the beatles

To paraphrase another reviewer, You can’t rank Beatles album’s against eachother. It’s a solid 5 start to finish. Cover art 5/5

Album 1, 1000 to go! What a place to begin! Having had the Beatles playing in the background when growing up (courtesy of parents), we had the double "Blue Album" CD covering their most well known hits from the period 1967-70 so familiar with songs from the latter end of their band career. It's great to listen in full to some of their earlier poppy/folky tracks, which I didn't really spend a lot of time listening to when younger. Regardless of their two distinct former and latter sounding periods as a band, the Beatles will always have a special place in my memories.

Nice album. Perfect for summer days! 10\5

Essential.

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: A hard day’s night, And I love her, Can’t buy me love

Automatic five stars because I own this album. I bought this during a class trip to Ottawa in 2002, I’m pretty sure from the Rideau Centre. These days, I don’t listen to it often but I do still like it. I don’t think there’s one weak song on the album. This is the fourth album that I already knew before today.

Increíble! 1964 y estos genios haciendo esto a sus 22-24 años. Los Beatles se han caracterizado por hacer discos memorables, pero creo que este fue el que empezó a cambiar la historia de la música.

The first great Beatles album full of classic songs, beautiful harmonies, memorable melodies, tight rhythms a d great playing. 5 🌟

Classic. Amazing harmonies and really fun songs.

Excellent

Pretty much all killer, no filler. Some tracks have been dampened by over-exposure but it's hard to give it much other than the full 5

Love it!

And I Love Her

Moptoppery again, some great tunes on this first soundtrack from Richard Lesters film which helped to define the Fab Fours public personalities. See Peter Jackson's "Get Back" TV series to get a sense of the "Real" Beatles. Highlights on this album the Title track that takes me back to my childhood, "And I Love Her" (The first bass line I ever learnt. "The Things We Said Today" (A Classic), finally "You Can't Do That" a tour de force of early Beatles songwriting. A great power pop album, that was influential on both sides of the Atlantic. (There would have been no Monkees without Dick Lesters' Beatles films!) Rightly on the list in my opinion.

Easily the best Beatlemania album. Packed with classic hits and underrated gems. The first album with all original material, and a fantastic movie to boot.

It wasn’t a hard days night listening to this album

Classic

banger

The very eye of the very greatest of hurricanes. A book could be written about this album and probably has.

I am in Liverpool just now , quite topical

Finally! Some Beatles! It was of course a fun listen. And... er... rating it is pretty tricky. The thing is, "A Hard Day's Night" was one of my least favorite albums by the band. Yes, least favorite. And yes, "was". Although "And I Love Her" is the very first Beatles song that I love, as well as the reason why teenager me dived deeper into their discography despite the geo-blocks on YouTube during those times. Listening to it again, it's much better than I remember. Considering the fresh sounding tracks with infectious melodies and simple structure, it's not hard to see why these boys set the music scene on fire during their time. "A Hard Day's Night", their first all-original album, written while constantly touring and making non-music projects, is probably the epitome of their early works, their early musical force at full power. Their early works are pretty tricky to rate. But regardless of how I approach this, it doesn't change the fact that early Beatles albums have this kind of raw, infectious energy that I love. Those albums, including this one, have a few minutes of fillers and are not as mind-blowing as their later works, but I will keep on coming back to them to just sit back and enjoy some music. And because of that, I guess this album deserves a five star. Two classics and two five stars in three days, what a nice week!

This album is so great! One of the best of their earlier works

Dynamite. Not as fleshed out, maybe simpler than their other albums but some really nice moments.

Beatles = vinilo.

The Beatles, they play so lovely they seem Brazilians! 😍

El primer disc amb composicions pròpies i una nova pica en Flandes per demostrar quina era la millor banda del moment, de la década, i una de les grans bandes de la història. No hi ha un sol segon que sobri

a hard day's night, of course

Iconic Beatles

The best of the pre weed smokin' Beatles albums.

Charming, powerful - both timeless and of its time. Their first record free of covers doesn’t offer too many hints of the breadth of genius that lay ahead, but a great listen all the same. And I Love Her stands out, supported by pop classics like Cant buy Me love. Beautiful

ótimo começo

Lindo!

Possibly the best early Beatles be album, 13 originals with plenty of brash Lennon rockers and a few mellow McCartney ballads. If you don't dig this album then you probably don't dig the Beatles, man. Personal favourites are the title track, And I Love Her, Things We Said Today, You Can't Do That and I'll Be Back. Cracking stuff.

Really? I don't think I need to justify this one.

Loved Loved

Beatles unforgettable tunes live in my heart forever.

Classic! Iconic! Wonderful! This was my favorite Beatles CD when I was a kid and it holds up with their 60s rock style that they mastered!

For the longest it was a battle between Rubber Soul and Revolver as my favorite Beatles album. But now there's a third contender. The Beatles find their songwriter voice on this album, which I believe is their first album um of all original material. And what material it is. The songs are all excellent and the band is so damn tight. Step aside Revolver, move over Rubber Soul there's a new contender to the crown 5 🌟 🤩 ⭐

good stuff

9/10 nice pop rock album, the main detractor is the way that all the songs run into each other

10/10. Really good album.

Iconic

Never heard of this band.

Recently learned the guitar solo on the title track is played slow and the recording is sped up.

I've only recently come around to early Beatles. After all these years I think I can finally say this is a pretty great album.

Early proof of genius pop songwriting. 60s pop rock'n'roll at its finest without studio experiments. Arguably the purest of the great Beatles albums.

A Hard Day's Night is what can only be described as Absolute Classic Beatles. Interesting to find out that the first half of the album was a part of the soundtrack from a film of the same name. It was their first album to feature entirely original compositions. It was such a delight to listen to, it felt so comfortable and familiar to listen to, even though this is the first time I have listened to this album in full. Best: A Hard Day's Night; Can't Buy Me Love Worst: Can't pick.

i'm not sure the beatles would ever get less than 5 stars from me. anything i could say about them would doubtless be redundant, so i'll just remain thankful they found each other, and grateful for the music they've left us.

Awesome

A great early beatles record that it sounds good after more than 50 years .

Love this album. Love it LOADS.

this is beautiful, a masterfully crafted album. though it won't lose any of its magic without a couple of filler songs. i liked it, it is naive and romantic

Quality songs embedded in my mind, almost didn't need to listen Very crisp production by today's standards. Refreshing

Historic

It’s The Beatles

Exquisitely crafted pop music.

The ONLY bad thing I have to say about it album is how short it is!

Great mix of completely fresh and Beatles twists on other influences

Love The Beatles! A classic and undoubtedly helped shape the music industry

Classic

Is there anything better, really?

100% cool

Just loved it!!

First album listened to.

Fantastic
