Quick & Breezy

Fine background music.

Solid all around, smooth and easy to listen to. That said, I don’t see myself seeking out this particular album in the future, and I do not speak Spanish.

32/1001 Getz/Gilberto - Stan Getz and João Gilberto Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ I've heard some João Gilberto before and the Girl from Ipanema, so was prepared for a mellow jazz record. Whilst it works well for a lazy Sunday morning listen, there's not a lot here to keep it from becoming background music. Nice but nothing more.

Nicht mein Genre!

Lovely. Disappointing to read of Getz’s treatment of Astrud Gilberto as the songs with her lead owe so much to her contribution. Still though, a breezy, cool little burst of sunshine of an album.

I typically enjoy my jazz with more teeth but this was pretty good for bossa nova. 3/5

Lovely plinky plonky hotel lobby music

J - 3/5 Best Track - "The Girl From Ipanema" F - 1/5

Very relaxing and smooth. Not sure I'd put it outside of 3 stars just from a pure enjoyability standpoint. Blends together quite a lot. Not sure it's good dinner party music even since it's got that bossa vibe but it's very pretty!

5/10 Bossa nova is not for me. I'm sure the people its for drink wine daily. This isn't a judgement, just a guess. you take care now. 7-14-2025

Lovely, feels like you are somewhere beautiful when you listen to it

I took an irrational dislike against The Girl From Ipanema and boss’s nova in general years ago but started to soften recently when my daughter fell in love with it. So I was prepared to be irritated by this album but found myself win over by its gentle vocals and rhythms and Astrud Gilberto’s vocals in the two tracks that feature her. For me those are the stand outs of the album

Bossanova is ok but it bores me

Hey I liked the other Stan Getz album, but this didn’t do it for me. Pretty but slumber-inducing. I’m not in the mood or situation for that, but hey, albums don’t get second chances when you’re down 20

An undeniable classic. And hey I get it. The album that changed our nation’s trajectory forever. From hard at work to loungin’ around. Is Stan Getz solely responsible for what we have become? Maybe. It’s definitely enjoyable music, and I doubt many would disagree with that. But this could be a case of an album that suffers from its own fame, or maybe I just don’t love bossa nova. It’s excellent background music, but to me, stays in the background. It’s extremely possible that is because it has been played to death, and once again, it really is a nice listen. I’ll never ask to turn it off, nor will I likely ask to put it on; and maybe that’s what life is really all about. Also Portuguese sounds like simlish.

When I saw the first song, I thought "Ooh, I hope every song sounds like "Girl from Ipanema" and friends, that is EXACTLY what I got.

The girl from Ipanema is good but the rest of the album...

Not for me

Lovely bossa, but a bit samey!!

With a caipirinha, maybe

One of the all time great nap albums. The LeBron of nap albums. The Abbey Road of shutting your eyes for 30-40 minutes.

3.0 - Ok

It's a lovely sound, but it's a boring album. I can happily relate to its importance and the role it has in Brazilian music and indeed jazz. It's just not for me.

Not a huge fan of his voice I like the instrumentals, but the vocals ruin them for me a little ☹️

Absolutely love "Girl from Ipenama" but, otherwise, this was pleasant background music for me. Felt like I was in a lounge with cigar smoke everywhere and fans circulating tropical air.

Very pleasant on the ears. I had only heard girl from Ipanema, so most was new to me. Bossa nova is soothing as hell, and I can appreciate this, but I struggled to really distinguish between songs at times, didn't find it super interesting. Would not go so far as to dismiss it as muzak though.

Maze me wanna have a picnic on the beach 7/10

Classic jazz album, sort of thing they play in a restaurant.

Definitely a good album for this 95° day. Good vibes

This is an album that your great grandparents or your grandparents would have put on the record player to create some background music for a cocktail party. The music was okay. I just don’t understand Portuguese though.

Love Stan Getz. Just not crazy about the Samba shit. I realize that this was a hit in 64 when Stan really needed the money but this is not for me.

As I understand it this is the start of the bossa nova craze and it delivers exactly what I would expect in that regard. Other than that the saxophone parts a really good. While I don't understand the language at all the smooth voices still makes it a good album.

Not really my type of music so I' don't feel I can properly rate it. I enjoyed it enough

Pretty relaxing. Transports you to warmer climates

i should be eating pasta alone in a dimly lit restaurant after the worst heartbreak of my life

the girl from ipanema ain’t tall and tan and young and lovely she gave me malvern jazz band ptsd

Listened to this for another list. Gave it a 2/5 there. Listened to it just now and feeling more generous. 2.75/5

7/10. Nice samba. :)

Pre-listening thoughts: I’m lowkey excited for this one and I’m not sure why I put it off for so long but! Post/during listening thoughts: this was so smooth and easy I can’t believe it’s not butter! I think that elevators make baby elevators to this music. This is easier than pie, lemon squeezy, and Sunday morning. 6/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: nah Fav tracks: Girl From Ipanema, Corcovado Least fav tracks: n/a

Relaxing to listen to, but the moment you've listened to the first song, you already know the deal here.

An album of chill ipanema-likes. It is perfectly fine jazz music for your winding down activities, but that makes it rather situational.

Good. Can get a little backgroundy but its bracing whenever homegirls vocals come in.

Portuguese jazz and bosso nova? I did not expect to like this but I did. Good album.

Classic

6.5/10 Fav Song: Corcovado

After yesterday I was looking forward to something different and today’s album really hit that mark. Moving from the noise that was Marilyn Manson to the bossa nova here is, well, I couldn’t have picked something so radically in contrast. With that said, this isn’t really my thing either. I mean, I didn’t skip through it like yesterday and I didn’t find it revoltingly repugnant, but it didn’t really connect. It played in the background and I listened, and I heard, but that’s the extent of it. I wish I had enjoyed it more.

Nice easy going jazz. First time i've sat down and listened to Stan Getz. Nothing outstanding, and on the spectrum of easy listening to experimental, I like jazz a little more zany.

Kind of samey, but chill and relaxing. Coffee shoppe sort of vibe. Also I don't know Portuguese

Really wanted to give this a 3.5 but alas I can't. It's nice, I love Girl From Ipanema, and the rest of the album is quite pleasant. But ultimately it's just pleasant and nice to listen to, nothing too exciting beyond that.

This album of Brazilian music might have been eye-opening to an international audience in 1964, but because the sound of bossa nova has been absorbed into not only American culture but also other cultures (such as with Japan's Shibuya-kei sound), its capacity to surprise and intrigue is somewhat diminished. The musicianship on this record is solid but everything on this album is played in such a low-key way that on the whole it's more pleasant than truly engaging. (The mix also drains away a potential source of energy by shoving the drummer all the way over to one side and turning his parts way down.) The moments where Getz' saxophone takes center stage are the high points because they inject some much-needed excitement into the songs.

nice jazz

Good album, but not great. Relaxing. 3*

Muy bonito y con excelente sonido, me he guardado "The girl from Ipanema" las dos versiones que vienen.

Such a lovely album. It made me feel classy, like I was in The Thomas Crown Affair. 3.5⭐️

Makes me want to go hang out on the beach with a pina colada, but I'm stuck in the midwest. At least the sun was out today to give some atmosphere.

Always love hearing familiar songs on here. Bossa nova

It feels unfair to rate an album in a language I don't speak, as I imagine there's quite a bit I missed. But, based entirely on the sonic component, it was still very pleasant. Felt great to listen to early morning at my desk doing busy work, with the morning sun beaming through the city buildings on me while enjoying a cup of tea and some sweet biscuits. It was... a mood, very enjoyable, I would listen to this again happily.

It's really pleasant to listen to. On the other hand, I completely missed when my streaming service moved on to somebody else. It's nice but it doesn't stick.

It was good

Elevator/lounge music but for a real classy joint

First response: nice. Warm and sensual, good Summer music. In the end perhaps a bit samey.

100/1089 - The Bossa compositions are good but I'm not a fan of the players. Both singers are super dry and lifeless to my ears. I never liked Stan Getz's "subtone-only" sax sound and playstyle either. That being said, I get why it's on the list and I enjoy playing these songs on piano every once in a while.

Listens: 3 Standout tracks: The Girl From Ipanema Reminds me of Bitter:Sweet and Thievery Corporation, with a big emphasis brass instrument and R&B.

scratches that seaside melancholy itch

Przyjemne! Album zleciał szybciutko

A gorgeous little jazz album that sounds so relaxing and so pure and clean. The gentle vocals of the Gilbertos, the plucking guitars, the lyrical sax by Getz , everything puts you in a relaxing trance. The Girl From Ipanem is undeniably one of the best jazz songs of all time. But my favourite from the album was Para Machuchar Meu Coração. So poetic and beautiful. My only problem with this was that it's so easy on ears and so relaxing that as it reaches the last couple of songs, I'm already half asleep. But I don't think I can complain that it's not very stimulating, maybe Bossa Nova is like that. Maybe it's made for us to just relax.

The first instance of Girl from Ipanema getting huge is a cool thing to see. Rest of the album is p solid overall, nothing smacking my gob but a pleasant listen I will come back to.

I love jazz and I like Stan Getz but pleasant as it was it was all a bit too beige for me. Background music, nothing to make you sit up and think; wow this is something special.

I can really see smoking cigarettes and trying to make it with a Sarah Lawrence girl circa 1960 in this record.

Delicious and atmospheric. Perfect for cooking dinner or having on in the background (perhaps not the forefront). The sax and vocals whisper comfort. Just feels very authentic. Super chill.

I wouldn't say I was in love with this record or anything, however it was a very nice & relaxing listen, & I definitely do see how a lot of people would consider this amazing, it's got extremely soothing & majestic vocals & instrumentation, although to me a lot of the songs kind of blend in with each other, hence why there aren't many highlights, it's more of a whole experience than anything, still very soothing & relaxing album, not for me entirely, but I still enjoyed it.

Hmmm pretty good I like that it opens with the girl from ipanema pretty famous song. I feel like I am floating around around in a pool like a turtle on it's back floating in a pool this is how this album makes me feel. I think the only other song from this album I'm familiar with is Desafindado. TRACK RANKING: So Danco Samba > Girl from Ipanema > Vivo Sonhando > Doralice > Desafinado > O Grande Amor > Para Machuchar Mu Coracao > Corcovado Big downside is maybe every song on this album sounds the same?? I think that may just be how bossa nova works. It's fine. Not gonna rate it very high because I don't think I ever need to listen to it again.

Perus jazz lätinää lyhyesti

Good study music. I guess most would associate this with elevator music these days, but an album has to be really good to be pervasive enough to hear it so widely, and to have so many songs that you're familiar with even if you don't quite know where from. I feel like I've heard about 30 covers of some of the songs off this album. Girl from Ipanema is a bonafide classic.

Good background music. Enjoyed but got repetitive

I love the Stan Getz "Jazz Samba" record and gave it a 5. This one is really good but only a 3/5.

Very chill! Gilberto is not the best singer out there but the bibe is right

This sounds like a should be sitting in a dingy bar filled with cigar smoke listening to the house band while sipping on some whiskey

Pleasant and chill, but not the most compelling jazz I’ve ever heard. Still a very nice listen.

Not my typical cup of tea, but well enjoyed over an actual cup of tea on a rainy morning 3.5/5

it's chill, i like it, but it doesn't do all that much for me

a bit repetitive at times

it was jazz, idk

GetZ/Gilberto II even better

It was the first Bossa nova/jazz album I listened to, and I was pleased with it. After a while, it became repetitive, so I lost a bit of interest in it, but it was a calming and enjoyable listen. It placed me in a mood in which I felt like I was swaying on a white sand beach with a fine honey. Will probably revisit to make this a reality.

Smooth easy listening, something that would suit a lobby or cocktail bar. Nice relaxing tempo throughout with beautiful playing, just not something I'd have on rotation

Very calming.

it's good, but kinda the same jam over and over.

This doesn't do it at 100% for me but still, with the bossa-nova elements, I feel that this helps it sticking more than other old jazz albums I've listened to before.

Some relaxing jazz, very minimal

It's aight. On a jazz I've got on vinyl run here.

Alright, just not my bag. Musicianship is superb.

3.5 Enjoyed the listen. Maybe not a ton of variety throughout but did create a cool vibe

My parents had this on CD, and a lot of the songs were instantly placeable. That's probably quite a significant complement, considering it's a mix of fairly standard seeming jazz and a handful of much loved standards like Girl From Ipanema. Anyway, I enjoyed it, I worked to it, it was some time after that I realised it had stopped.

Good driving at night music.

I'm sure it's not bad, but I'm rarely in the mood for Bossa Nova/Jazz. 2.5/5

Different and Good

Mixtures with Cool jazzy moments and elevator music

Very chilled out, but not a regular listen kind of album.

Lite sävligt, men i positiv bemärkelse.

Girl from ipanema is a great song, the rest is solid as well.

This album was an extremely pleasant listen.

Bossa nova is cool in moderation :)

It invokes the feeling of laying down something very heavy that you didn’t know you were carrying. It’s the feeling of the first cigarette in years. It takes no stance yet makes you feel like you can take any stance.

This is the quintessential bossa nova album. A bit tough to rate because it perfectly exemplifies the genre but it's still not a genre I'm listening to a whole lot. However, this was a great album to throw on to start the day and just when I thought it was dragging on it ended. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)

Bossa nova is fun in small doses, but it seems to lack depth. It felt like I listened to the same backing rhythm for almost the entire album. Sure this is technically a jazz album too, but it's bossa nova first and foremost. The starting track "The Girl From Ipanema" was really the only one that stood out and left an impression on me. I can acknowledge the impact this particular album had on popularizing the bossa nova genre worldwide, so no complaints here in terms of its inclusion on this list I guess.

I don’t know if it’s because my frontal lobe is now fully developed, but I’m starting to enjoy jazz. So smooth and soft.

Smooth vibe for the function, just not mine

I liked the feel of it. Nice background music

Not the world's biggest bossanova fan, but I don't mind it either. Ok background music.

Bueno.

I'm no jazz/bossa nova aficionado, but most of this album sounds like the same song. It's objectively good, but it's not an album that I'm likely to return to often.

Enjoyed more than I thought I would

For the genre it’s pretty good. Good work music

Very good but not my style of music

Classic opener, all the rest was one same song to me, but enjoyable!

Nota: 2.8

Yeah, all cool here. Delightful. Soft as cotton.

Pleasant like a warm breeze.

When I started listening to this, it sounded kind of familiar. That was because The Girl From Ipanema and most of the other songs on this album were written by Antônio Carlos Jobim (with piano played by him). I listened to one of his albums, Matita Perê, a few years ago, because I really liked the song Águas de Março. However, while I do love The Girl From Ipanema and Águas de Março, I feel like they are both songs that outshine the rest of the album they're part of. The other songs are still pretty good, but didn't stand out to me as much. Maybe that will change if I listen to this more, which I'll happily do because this music is very pleasant. P.S. go to the Wikipedia article for this album and read the fourth paragraph under the Recording and Composition section

bossa nova godo

Smooth, jazzy, a nice contrast to the hell of a storm that's happening outside right now. What's not to like?

Best Song: The Girl From Ipanema. There's a reason it's so famous. There's a joyous sort of frivolity to it that just feels whimsical. Worst Song: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao. I just preferred the more upbeat tracks. Overall: Lovely. Perfect for dinner or cooking on a relaxed evening.

Getz/Gilberto starts on the right notes and carries a sultry summery energy through the first half of the album, not entirely dissimilar to albums of theirs we've already had, a bossa nova/jazz fusion which is balanced in just the right way to be accessible to many, not tipping too far into the indulgences and excesses that annoy those same people. Unfortunately the back half of the album sort of tails off into a sameyness, O Grande Amor aside. Gets a decent 3, wasn't a bad listen.

Good dinner music

I liked this a lot, particularly the couple very recognizable tracks. 3.5/5

I’m sure like others, this took me back to any beach bar/restaurant. Very enjoyable, just didn’t feel all that remarkable.

This sounds like drinking martinis at the bar of some fancy hotel. Maybe getting romantic with a lil lady……that isn’t your wife you cheating bastard!

Not a fan of the sax style.

Lovely. Relaxing, fluid, easy.

It's okay. I think the saxophone helped.

Study/olive garden

Sexy chill vibes

If I were into Bossa Nova, I'd be into this album. It's beautiful, atmospheric and serene. Quite lovely.

Girl from ipanema

Alot of the same, focus is mainly on sax for sure, not a strong presence of singer voice or variation really. Have to look into why the Ipanema song got so popular. Music sounds like coffee shop music, or like hotel lobby music.

I can appreciate it, but not my favourite. Very 60’s lounge music….of a time.

Obviously am not gonna say anything bad but this isn’t as good as tropicalia / Clube de esquina.

Interesting, but not my thing (although, of course, the Girl from Ipanema is a classic)

Very chill album. I liked the tone, just not super into this genre. It's a bit elevator musicy - something that would play in a hotel lobby perhaps

Secondo me l'ho già ascoltato. Girl from Ipanema era la versione di Frank Sinatra ok. Molto mood relax

I tried, I really did but the foreign lyrics made it hard to listen to for me. However, the music was outstanding. Beautiful sax and guitar very well composed

I went into Getz/Gilberto knowing exactly one thing — “The Girl from Ipanema.” And yeah, it’s a classic for a reason. Smooth, laid-back, and still catchy after all these years. The rest of the album follows that same vibe — chill, breezy bossa nova that’s easy on the ears but doesn’t leave a huge impact for me beyond the big hit. Fun fact: Astrud Gilberto has at least one other album on this list, and I’ve checked it out already (just not on this generator yet). That one wasn’t bad either, so I’ll give her credit — she brings a cool, understated vibe to everything she touches.

Pleasant and intriguing. I could imagine being in a swanky bar with this on or being played live.

This album instantly transported me to a high end, intimidating coffee shop in Chelsea. The kind of place where you pay £17 for a vegan flat white from a barista that hates customers, and especially hates me. He knows I don’t belong there, I know I don’t belong there, and so we both remain silent as I go about working my way through my overpriced, average coffee. It’s all very uncomfortable, and I don’t particularly enjoy the experience, yet I still end up leaving a tip in the knowledge that I at least got the coffee I went in for. I came for music, I got music, it wasn’t the experience I particularly wanted, I’ll still tip 3 stars for reasons I don’t really understand myself.

An easygoing, tranquil affair. I knew a few of the songs, and always knew I liked Brazilian jazz/bossa nova, and Stan Getz, as well as other jazz guitar artists such as Django Reindhardt. I haven't listened to these genres enough, and this has spurred me on to go adventuring. Immensely surprised by how neat and crisp this sounds, given it was recorded in 1964. I'm a fan of lazy guitar plucking nestled in a jazzy ensemble. The soothing trumpets, and the laid-back rhythm section are all effortlessly cool. Girl From Ipanema and Corcovado are my favourites, the latter makes me feel like I'm Austin Powers and I've just made tender love to a character called Ana Lingus, and told her “I've gotta go baby, Dr Evil has turned Christ the Redeemer into his evil lair, and he's threatening to blow up the good old U.S of A. I'll be back when the lady with the Coxinha arrives, yeah baby!”

I’ve said it before, I’m not a big ga bid the sax. Having said that, Getz is the sax virtuoso we’ve always been looking for and have had all along. Having said that, this some bland stuff. If it was fruit, this album would be a banana - a perfectly ripe banana, tuned perfection, but a banana. 2.5 slides to 3 for “The Girl from Ipanema” solo into the higher octaves - that was breathtaking.

Obviously know Girl from Ipanema but haven’t heard the entire alb. It’s one of the best selling jazz albums and I’m sure it was important to bring it and bossa nova to the masses- I just don’t find it very exciting. Pleasant but not exciting. Great dinner party in the background music.

Enjoyed. A bit funky. But a good album. Probably only background music tho.

A lovely album, very enjoyable listening.

🎧Nice easy listening jazz/bossa nova record. Relaxing AF.

That was an okay album, it was just jazziness for less than an hour, so it was nice. Nothing too exciting, great for background music, so I would say that it was good overall.

Really solid album especially girl from Ipanema

Nice album with the well known song "The Girl From Ipanema". Great saxophone but in total not exacly my jam. 2,5

I know this album well I understand it's significance on this list. It is a must listen on the international

I preferred this to the other Getz album, but it's still music that seems designed to be as non descript as possible. The lyrics helped add a bit of interest but the album is still very much background music.

Enjoyable listen.

I'm not sure where I first heard "The Girl from Ipanema", but as soon as I heard it I immediately recognized it. Very smooth flowing album, albeit a bit repetitive although the short-run time doesn't make that too big of an issue.

Nice sound

I'm a big jazz boy, but bossa nova isn't fully my bag. It's good, and I suppose I understand why everyone loves it, but give me literally everything by 50's/60's Miles, Coltrane, Mingus, Hank Mobley, Art Blakey, Wayne Shorter, Dexter Gordon, Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Red Garland, etc. before this. 3.5/5

I didn't understand a word of it, but I felt like I was at some cafe in a clever but quirky movie and possibly wearing a beret.

Background music for a fancy cocktail party. Probably wouldn’t seek this out for my own listening, but it works for that setting.

Liked it as background music, but didn't care for it too much. Ipanema was really good.

This is right on the edge of jazz I like and jazz I don't like. As such, I have mixed feelings about it. Some parts were nice, some annoyed me. In the end I give it a 2.5 rounded to 3

This grew on me.

Cafe music

Easy listening music. Great to have in the background or for light afternoon parties. Samba is alive and well.

beautiful opening, love bossa nova, this first song made me go hm yes this is staying in the library!! im vibing to this first track very hard, so solid its very soothing, id go to sleep with this album playing... very much a study album or somthing id have in the background, makes me feel like im at a coffee shop or somthing!!! fun, but not great!

Typical jazzy stuff

Not a jazz guy but this was kinda nice.

Very mellow. Not 100% my cup of tea but I can appreciate it.

Pretty good.

Opening track was pretty good, better than Frank Sinatra’s version. Too bad this album is in Spanish, I’m sure the lyrics are great. Album was kind of repetitive, but very calming and relaxing.

Enjoyable, but just not something I will revisit

Lovely music for a sophisticated soiree, to be playing in the background while monsieur ambassador hands round the ferrero rocher...

Cool stuff.

7/10 Highlights: The Girl From Ipanema Corcovado

7/10 Highlights The Girl from Ipanema Corcovado

Elegant, chill, good vibes

I enjoyed it as it was nice easy-listening jazz. My husband prefers more avant garde jazz.

Lovely and relaxing music. Would love to listen to while at the beach

Very enjoy in the right environment, average enjoyment in the day to day setting

3.5, mukavaa viikonloppuaamun taustamusiikkia.

If this was on in a long lift (elevator) I’d expect to be in a passionate kiss by the end of it.

Thoughts before listening: One of those albums that I always see getting praised, but that I know very little about. I know its jazz, and I feel like its Spanish flamenco inspired jazz perhaps? Not really sure. Review: So the internet tells me this is bossa nova not flamenco. Either way, its very enjoyable in a background music kind of way. "The Girl From Ipanema" is a recognizable song that I have already added to my playlist based on its inclusion on Frank Sinatra's bossa nova album. I can't say that this music is something I would typically gravitate to, but I can't deny that its high quality. I think this is a 3-star album for me personally, but I recognize that it probably deserves a higher score.

Solid Jazz/Samba fusion. 3/5

Very nice/smooth jazz/samba record. The first track is a standard for a reason. Good easy listening.

Dreamy samba music that drifts between consciousness and coma. At times sublime, at other times strangely detached.

I forgot I listened. It was smooth samba jazz fusion. Guys voice wasn’t great. The last song i liked very much.

Amazing album, easily forgettable. Great sounds, and an iconic intro song.

Lovely album, highly relaxing with the opening and closing tracks being particular highlights.

One of the classics that missed me

Chill, good vibes. All the songs sound a little similar though.

Very nice. Very smooth. Very stylish. Very smoke filled nightclub vibes. Very background music.

I liked the light touch throughout on this album. It felt very breezy. It suited the working mood whilst listening. I'm increasingly leaning towards jazz these days. Whatever gets you through the night, morning etc.

This is music for some kind of vacation I don't think I'll ever have... But I'd like to.

Not my typical preference for jazz. Not bad, but just not super interesting to me. Decent background music.

never quite lives up to the promise of the first track but i did clean tf out of the bathroom to this and i'll cherish that memory 6/10

3.1 - First track was great, but I was done after that track to be honest. Feel like it was nice background loungey music that just starts to sound the same

Immaculate vibes Why did that one popular review on here feel the need to tell us he fucked his girlfriend in the car while listening to this album?

Didn’t love it Didn’t hate it Didn’t understand it

A very acceptable smooth jazz album. Aside from a couple songs and some solo sections here and there, there wasn't much that jumped out to me unfortunately. The musical skill was on point, but a lot of the melodies and rhythms were repetitive to me. Notable Tracks: - The Girl from Ipanema - Para Machuchar Meu Coracao 5/10

It’s very peaceful music I will say that. Relaxing. Not my cup of tea but it does have a place in this world. I think it’s only fair to not have a choice cut since I need to know what the words mean when I hear them and this album does not have that feature, for me at least.

What an iconic song. The rest of the album is full of the same fun if not as recognizable songs.

Not a bad way to stay my morning.

It’s the end of August so nearly the end of another summer. Not been such a good summer here in the UK so was only thinking recently I have been a bit short changed with long balmy hot summer days. So this album coming along is just like laying on a sun lounger by the side of a pool with tequila cocktail in hand. Actually more accurately for me climbing up and standing on top of a Lake District mountain and taking in the beautiful view stretching away under a hot sun. Either way a lovely summer sounding record. Not what I would normally listen to but will always enjoy in short measures (rather like lovely English summer days) whenever they pop up on the radio. Think I’ll reach out for that holiday brochure or more likely wait a bit for the late summer sun in the Lake District. 3/5 30/8/24

Very cool, but not overly memorable

I don't like that it sounds like he's smacking his lips/whispering... But I like the music... One song, at least, sounds familiar and famous.

It's a lovely, chilled time. I like the vocals, I like the instruments, it's just all very pleasant and smooth. Is it a bit limited? Possibly. But it is what it is, and it's very nice. 3.5 rounded down.

This was fine. 2.5

Cool record

First song is great. Took me back to that episode of An Idiot Abroad where Karl goes to Rio. Was it close to music inside a lift? Yeah but I think it was a happy number so here we are.

Nice easy listening background music 3/5

Chill Jazz.

this album was decent; chill and nice enough to listen to. the jazz/bossa nova sound is pretty rare for this list, so i'll try to enjoy it while it's here. i had only heard of the girl from ipanema but it had never stuck with me. now i know what it sounds like... and it's fine. favorites: the girl from ipanema, corcovado

Beautiful

Fine, fun, great background music for a party.

Sleepy but beautiful

I'm not really familiar with the genre, but I enjoyed what I heard. I love discovering something new because of this project; something I might listen to again. 3 - 3.5 stars

The Girl From Ipanema.

Top notch elevator music.

Elevator music the album - that's not a bad thing, this album is incredibly soothing and so smooth to listen to. Just not really my thing 3/5

I've actually played some of this stuff with a Brazilian guy I know that plays guitar and sings. Of course it's foreign to me but I recognize some of the tunes. I suppose I'll give it three stars for being a big deal in the bossa nova world.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I was going to, really pleasant vibe and good background music.

Pleasant enough listen

Wow, the production on this album is pretty terrible. I can hear more of the saxophonist's breaths than the actual notes he's playing. Were microphone filters not a thing yet? Girl from Ipanema is one of the most famous songs of all time. And pretty much every bossa nova song released after it sounds exactly the same. Is it pleasant to listen to? Sure. Is it hugely influential? Yes. Is it exciting to listen to? Not really. It's a decent album to put on as background music when you want something soothing. Great for napping on the beach or chilling in a coffee shop. Not something I'd really choose to listen to otherwise. One point for classical guitar. One point for Portuguese, which always sounds cool. One point for being vibey, I guess? 3/5

Pleasant enough jazz. Still not enough to make me a jazz fan, though.

Easy listening, but not as interesting as I expected.

It's fun, inoffensive music. Great background music for dancin' your way around the house doing some light housework. 3.5*

This was a fun and interesting listen. Just the right amount of jazz for me to enjoy, with some nice vocals.

It's a mood

3.5☆/5 07.27.2024

Perfectly pleasant easy listening. The type if stuff you hear in the background of a wine bar so that it doesn’t overtake the general conversation at the tables. 3/5

Little bit repetitive, but I enjoyed the grooves.

I really enjoyed this album, great as background music

I mean, it is relaxing and all, but maybe a bit too relaxing. Good background music. 3

Any more laid back and you'd be horizontal.

Oooooooh that’s smooooooooth.

Horny sophistication for 60s squares.

I'm really here for rock, this was OK but I wish I could filter out the jazz and other easy listening music.

It's pleasant to listen to but a bit boring and the songs all blend together. I doubt I'll ever seek it out again.

It’s… pleasant to listen to, but not overly exciting. Perhaps it sounded wider in the early ’60s?

Good sax but jazzz zzz zzz

Chill, it seems like they reuse the same progressions a lot so if youve hear one youve heard most.

I want every swanky dinner party in my future to have this album on softly in the background!

I didn't exactly love this but I'm glad to have heard it.

lol not bad

i don't know much jazz music tbh but i can see how this record put it into the mainstream, it's very accessible and overall good vibes !!

Wunderbare Hintergrundmusik für einen entspannten Abend. Bosse Nova und Samba-mässig wohl etwas vom Besten. *** 1/2

Not bad but really sleepy.

Smooth comfortable background music at the cocktail bar, and something to get up and samba to. The Girl from Ipanema is a classic

Rating: 7/10 Very good album overall, the combination of jazz and Latin music was very well done. Incredibly pleasant to listen to from start to finish, although it all starts to sound the same after a while.

Tender and jazzy, I enjoyed this album but it's not really a genre of music that I'm interested in. Very pleasant for background or dinner music.

This is like hard core elevator music. Imagine an elevator by a pool at a tropical resort. This album is playing

A great Jazz starter

Still pretty good background noise. Jazz Samba was better

Extremely cozy feelgood music, makes you happy and calm when listening to it. 'Girl From Ipanema' is a very good song, but the rest doesn't stand out in the same way, but blend together more. In fact, almost all songs on this album sounds exactly same. I don't know if they're playing similar chords in the songs or if it's just due to the guitar player playing the same "riff" over and over again. Overall it's a nice playthrough though, and I think I will save this to put on during a dinner or just to have some nice background music. For it to reach higher ratings it would definitely need some more variety. Strong 3.

I'm not really a fan of bossa-nova and was leaning on giving this album a 2 star, but Stan Getz on the saxophone is just such a pleasure to the ears that it even outweighs my dislike of bossa-nova. It's a nice, chill album with great saxophone parts. I understand the appeal of the album even though I find it slightly annoying in its laid-back rythm. Weak 3.

This elegant and relaxed kind of music has a certain appeal.

Funny to have the daughter and two albums later her father. I'd no idea where the first track -- very famous -- came from. Once again, it's not really my cup of tea but the jazz bits make it pleasant to listen to anyway.

The Girl From Ipanema, with two versions included here, is definitely a good one but nothing else here really stood out. Good calm background music nevertheless.

Getz/Gilberto is a sun-drenched musical journey that feels like strolling through a vibrant South American street, coffee in hand. The album opens with the iconic Girl from Ipanema, a sweet and timeless track that sets a laid-back, breezy tone. Throughout the record, the seamless blend of Stan Getz's smooth saxophone and João Gilberto's gentle guitar and vocals creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. However, the album tends to stay within a narrow stylistic range, offering little variation from its initial mood. While each track is expertly crafted and enjoyable, the overall experience can feel somewhat repetitive. The consistency in style means there are few surprises, but this also lends the album a cohesive, mellow charm. Its gentle melodies and relaxed pace make it perfect background music for unwinding or daydreaming. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 1 STAND OUT TRACK - Girl from Ipanema

It’s OK. Probs great if you enjoy that kind of music.

I wish I was a pregnant 60s housewife hosting a dinner party, with a martini in one hand and a cigarette in the other, this is the perfect soundtrack for such an occasion. Laid back classy background noise. But never more than background noise for me so it gets a 3.

Good vibes but better if I understood Spanish

Latin Jazz. I like Stan Getz

A cool, sunny relaxed vibe. I see myself sipping cocktails at a sophisticated soirėe full of interesting types, effortlessly looking cool. Or a character in some intriguing film. Possibly black and white. I find it gentle to listen to - background music that sets a scene and vibe. Nice.

We're transported to Brazil in the early 60s, somewhere chic, with beautiful people and a peaceful atmosphere as the sun shines and the waves gently lap Copacabana beach. Cafés across the world have been playing this to try and capture the vibe ever since. It's so mellow, creates a mood. The recording is so good it sounds like they are right with us. The voices are great and the saxophone sounds like a third voice. Much as I like it, I know I won't listen to it much, my interest fades. Best track - The Girl From Ipanema, obviously, the long version.

There is a time and place where I would love this album. Perhaps in the early evening on holiday, somewhere hot - going for a stroll or having a glass of wine on the balcony before dinner. Or sipping coffee in some French cafe on Sunday. A hectic Monday at work in overcast England sadly did not match the vibe. While it didn’t click with me immediately, I can appreciate this is a beautifully constructed album with excellent production. Relaxing and carefree. Right now this album isn’t for me. But one day, I know it will be.
