Reviews (page 9 of 13)

I did enjoy this album, but I just found it all merged into one in the background and it was difficult to be an active listener

If Bossa Nova is our thing than this is the high water mark.

First listen

Enjoyed - all pleasant and chilled to listen to - the girl from Ipanema is a great version - clear standout

Good song from tiktok. You just can't rate an album that has this song lower than 3

The easiest listening that ever easy listened.

joao can play

Girl from Ipanema W

This was an interesting diversion from the usual albums on this list. Not something I’d probably ever listen to on purpose, but I enjoyed the bossa nova and jazzy vibes of this album. Felt like I was on an international vacation sipping frozen cocktails by the beach. (3)

Solid. 3*

Creo que el Jazz no es lo mío

Enjoyed this more than I expected to. I wouldn't have ever believed I'd be giving a thumbs up to a heavily bossa nova infused record, but here we are.

Only got chance to listen to it once, really enjoyable. Would I sit a listen to it again? Probably not , but as driving music, definitely 👍

ik vond dat andere album van m leuker

i enjoyed it good time jazz

It's lovely bossanova. I enjoyed it - makes for great background music.

Wish I could find this any different than the other jazz quartet style stuff on here. Desafinado the best

The Girl from Ipanema is an incredible song, but the rest of the album is comparatively unassuming and not a whole lot of interest happens. Very pleasant, of course.

Really chill. I didn't care for whatever that brass instrument was.

First of (probably) a few albums I had zero knowledge on before listening, but what a listen! Smooth groove throughout that really just fills the whole project. Makes for a really engaging record especially that opening track, damn. I enjoyed the vocals throughout but the female vocals on here especially were great. I could see me enjoying this even more on subsequent listens, but as of now, I gotta listen to some more Bossa nova.

Kivaa bosista!

A tiny bit elevator music, because I thinik it was overused as elevator music. A decent vibe though.

Didn't enjoy this as much as "Jazz Samba", it was a bit too plodding and the vocals sounded... bored? It was easy to listen to, but it just didn't interest me all that much. Perfectly good background, but would only ever be background for me. Slightly disappointing 3.

Very good but I think I do prefer Getz's other album slightly more. Still a pleasant listen

The staple of bossa nova. It’s relaxing and has that long summer night feel, which I love. The vocals mix so well with the instrumentals and really elevate each other. However, this is probably the lightest light of jazz which doesn’t make it all that interesting. Besides The Girl from Ipanema, I couldn't distinguish any of the songs from one another. Solid background music but that’s it.

Pretty cool! Maybe too cool for me? It definitely puts the easy in easy listening.

I didnt realise I know the Girl from Impanema! Great album, will spin when I want a chill vibe. Was perfect to listen to when reading too!

very pleasant and obviously incredibly talented, I just couldn't really see the album as more than background music

Legendary earworm

Buen album, tranquilo, relajante, gran instrumentación, esencial, me gustó

Elevator/lounge music. I recognized the first song from a lot of movie soundtracks.

Interesting one, not quite my taste tho. The mono audio hurts my head. Vibes are cool - 3/5

- smooth vocals without any flair like vibrato or high notes meant to impress; just unassuming singing in tune with a nice tone. very relaxing - the saxophone functions like a second singer, which is lovely - some of the tracks start to sound the same (as maybe all bossa nova does), but if I was having a swanky dinner party or enjoying a cool glass of white wine on a summer night, this is the background music I would choose

The girl from Ipanema puto temon, los demás están bien 6/10

Listened in the car and in Costco. Dimery must really like bossa nova because I've been served three jazz albums so far and two of them have The Girl from Ipanema on them. It's fine, I just don't really dig bossa nova.

Totally chill vibe for this sunnier day and any relaxed sunny day in the in the future.

Top Songs: The Girl from Ipanema Para Machuchar Meu Coracao Desafinado

Bossa Nova is fun :) chill :) relaxing :)

Turns out you still remember all these songs from your manager playing it 30 years ago

Its an impressive bossa nova album containing songs that you've heard everywhere but never really thought too hard about. Unfortunately, it lacks depth or experimentation with the form.

Not my cup of tea but I’m glad I listened to it. Very chill background music

7/10 - this is a carribean hotel lobby/pool area. But can't deny it's a classic and recognisable anywhere

It is quite possible that I'm just not a chill enough person for this kind of music. It is kind of relaxing though, good for a cafe.

This is a nice listen, but probably no more than background music. You’d think ‘this is perfect’ if you heard it on the soundtrack of a film set in 70s Rio or the opening titles to the 2014 World Cup. A nice laidback, jazzy sound, but probably not enough differentiation to go higher.

I can see why this is a jazz/bossa nova classic: it has a lovely sunny vibe from start to finish and is definitely a mood-lifter. However, while I wouldn’t go so far as to describe it as ‘elevator music’ (it deserves better than that), it is a bit too ‘easy listening’ and repetitive for me to really love it. I do also agree with some other reviewers that the tenor sax is often too loud. At the risk of being a philistine, I can’t in all honesty give it more than 3 stars in terms of my personal enjoyment.

It's a good classic, my personal fav was Só Danço Samba it gives quirky vibe(personal music taste) and ofc the girl from ipanema, other than that it gives you a warm sunset feeling with slow dance vibez.

coffe house

Pleasant, but made me feel like a Sim.

Nice and pleasant listen. Don't know much about bossa nova but feels like this would be a good introduction for anyone. I might revisit if I want ló relax with this type of sound around me.

I'd never listened to this in full pleasant to my ears high 3

girl from ipanema is so iconic unforch this does kinda fall into background music for me

I bet I would like this album if I didn't only speak one language

Pretty good background music, but I’m not sure this belongs on a list of albums I need to listen to before I die.

Had not heard of these guys before ... But I recognized "The Girl From Ipanema" as soon as it started playing. When I went to Rio de Janeiro I stayed in the Leblon neighborhood which turns out is right next to the Ipanema neighborhood. Both neighborhoods are famous for their beaches. Makes sense, since this song is about someone admiring a pretty girl walking to the beach there. Fun fact. Also - Corvocado is the name of the mountain where the giant Christ the Redeemer statue is in Rio de Janeiro. So - this is all clearly tied do that area of Brazil. After listening 3 times, I "liked" the Ipanema song - mostly because it's slightly familiar. I also liked the "Corvocado", "So Danco Samba" and "Vivo Sonhando". The rest just seems too "samey" and don't add anything new or different. Also, most of this is so incredibly chill that it's almost sleep inducing. Seems like all of the musicians were told play everything as quietly and gently and slowly as possible. I like some chill music but this is pretty extreme. In the reviews, I've seen people mention this would be great at a cocktail party. I don't think I really know what that means because I've never hosted a cocktail party before and it's probably too late for me to start. But I'd be afraid to put my guests to sleep - haha! I definitely can see this being a good vibe for sipping a Caipirinha in a hammock while falling asleep in the shade with a cool breeze while looking at the ocean enveloped by the coastal mountains of Rio. It did grow on me more after repeated listens though. Liked songs on Spotify: 4/8 Rating: 3/5

I enjoyed this, yesterday a chilled start to the day

Not a huge fan of the singi but I am of the instrumental parts.

A pioneering record of the bossa nova genre, 'Getz/Gilberto' brings American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazillian guitarist João Gilberto together for a tight half-hour of danceable rhythms and attractive Latin American flavour. Gilberto predominatly sings in his native Portuguese tongue, but he blends his calm and collected voice in beautifully with his samba-infused guitar playing and Getz's superb sax flourishes. Astrud Gilberto (João's then wife) even contributes her alluring vocals to two tracks on the record ('The Girl from Ipanema' and 'Corcovado'), with her words predominantly in English to complement (and translate) her husband's Portuguese. Essentially, 'Getz/Gilberto' is smooth-sounding lounge music with a distinct Latin flavour. The bossa nova rhythms are impressive and would be responsible for bringing the genre from the streets of Rio de Janeiro to a wider audience. Gilberto's guitar/vocals and Getz's sax make a mighty fine pair. Best songs: The Girl from Ipanema, Para Machuchar Meu Coracao, Desafinado, Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)

Chillest album so far. I enjoy good bossa nova and the singers voice is very gentle. Nothing too outstanding about it but pleasant listen

Great album almost a 4!

While Bossa may never quite be the ticket to my heart, I could see how this may be the platonic ideal of the genre. This is smooth, breezy and refreshing. And it's ultimately an enjoyable experience. I don't feel the need to overthrow this one. Getz/Gilberto is well written, well performedand extremely pleasant, and I don't think it needs to be anything else. If you're new to Bossa, give The Girl From Ipanema a listen if you haven't already, its a classic for a reason.

Smooth and easy listening with some nice saxophone playing. Nothing too groundbreaking or exciting and not quite my taste.

Classic Latin jazz, sways me like a samba

This is ok. Played it a few times while working and it kinda faded into the background. Nothing grabbed me.

It’s good. As someone who is new to this type of music, what else can I say?

It was OK. Nothing really unexpected.

(75/100)

Overall, quite nice ambient album. Great vibe, great musicians. Chill jazz, but only when the mood asks for it (not very usual, personally). Standouts: The Girl from Ipanema; Corcovado (classics)

Longest elevator ride of all time. Very nice and pleasant. I’m not totally in the right setting for it though. Need to listen on a beach.

Groovy baby, yeah!

para machuchar meu coracao: sax + rhythm; also like corcovado (quiet nights of quiet stars)

Getz/Gilberto (1964) is a studio album and collaboration between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist João Gilberto, featuring pianist and composer Antônio Carlos Jobim and the vocals of Gilberto’s then wife, Astrud Gilberto. It’s Brazilian bossa nova jazz which I know nothing about so this really is a first impressions review. As is becoming the usual pattern, I’d never heard this album before, although I am very familiar with the opening track ‘The Girl From Ipanema’. The album as a whole is a bit too easy listening for my taste. Stan Getz saxophone playing is beautiful and really elevates some of the tracks but I found the bossa nova rhythms just too repetitive. I realise the version on Spotify that I listened to includes a couple of the tracks twice which probably didn’t help. It’s an album that sounds nice and I wouldn’t object to it being on in the background but I can’t imagine putting it on to sit down and really listen to. Side A: 1. The Girl From Ipanema - 3/5 2. Doralice - 2/5 3. Para Machuchar Meu Coração = To Hurt My Heart - 3/5 4. Desafinado - 3/5 Side B: 1. Corcovado - 2/5 2. Só Danço Samba- 2/5 3. O Grande Amor - 3/5 4. Vivo Sonhando - 3/5 5. The Girl From Ipanema - 3/5 6. Corcovado - 2/5

Disfruton. Bueno para tener de fondo mientras haces tareas

Goede achtergrondmuziek

Schuld war nur der Bossanova!

ganz nett anzuhören. girl from Ipanema top.

232/1089 quite like a bit of bossa nova, samba and jazz. a very relaxing and warm record to listen to, made me even more impatient for summer 66/100

File under jazz or relaxing Classic Track 1 The Girl From Ipanema

The album should have been just a collab between Astrud, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Stan Getz. They all sound wonderful- particularly ACJ's little piano runs on these wonderfully chipper bossa nova tracks- count myself a new huge fan. Joao Gilberto, on the other hand, really ruins the vibe a lot of the time for me. His vocals are so nasally and whispery- I get that it's supposed to be a mellow sound but it bothers me like almost every song. I am really interested in diving in to Stan Getz and ACJ from here on, though!

Ok music

Girl from Ipanema alone gets this album on the list. Great exposure to bossa nova and jazz.

Calming music, recognized one song. Pretty.

Smooth sounding bossa is never a bad thing

You know, I thought I would like it even more than I did. But I’ve just never gotten into it. Definitely a classic, earns my “should be on the list” rating of 3, but I just can’t go higher

Really nice, chilled jazz. Girl from Ipanema is a classic. I think I'd have enjoyed this more if I was on Copacabana beach sipping on a Caipirinha. Pretty smooth album overall.

Very smooth. Spanish Jazz was not something I was preparing myself for. It's good. Better than many jazz albums on this list. The vocal performances are just enough to accompany the laid back arrangement. I also am intrigued by the mix between English and Spanish in the vocal. It's enough to keep me locked in without stealing the show. I like it enough. 3.3/5

I am a big fan of Stan Getz and I'm glad that at least one of his albums is on this 1001 list (a list that is not very friendly to jazz). This album is not my favorite of Getz, and I don't like the english lyrics in some songs, but of course I can understand why it was selected. 3.75 / 5 As for Getz, I love his "West Coast Jazz", "The Steamer", "Gerry Mulligan Meets Stan Getz" albums. For bossa nova jazz, I prefer the his version of "Desafinado" with Charlie Byrd.

Fun bossa nova-style jazz album. Not typically the type of jazz I would listen to, but would be a nice listen on a warm summer night paired with a chilled glass of Spanish rioja or South American malbec.

jezz chyba nie jest dla mnie

Very inoffensive

Não é o meu estilo mas agradável

I think the album was good. Personally it was more of a listening in the background type of album for me then something I would really sit down and listen.

so i guess jazz isn't my thing. it's cool that it's mostly spanish ig, i think that's unusual for an album that I'd head some songs from. g from ipanema is classic

3/5. It's fine. It's a jazz album centered around bossa nova with competent arrangements and musicians on it. Its's interesting that this popularized bossa nova worldwide, but musically there's nothing particularly novel or impressive about this album. It is pleasant and serves best as background music. Not bad, not great.

This was good exposure to some classic Bossa Nova, and fun to listen to some Portuguese too. While this music absolutely has its place in the world it’s not something I would actively seek out or listen to again.

I rarely think to put on bossa nova when I am listening to music, and what a loss. I recognized The Girl from Ipanema, but the rest matched the soothing sounds and jazzy beats. Stan Getz is a quality saxophonist. Great listen!

lovely to listen to, non-offensive and beautifully composed

I enjoyed this album more than Jazz Samba, which I listened to last month. A big part of this is the fact this album isn't entirely instrumental. Songs like Girl From Ipanema and Corcovada are really nice and relaxing, and it made for pleasant background listening. Favourite song: Girl From Ipanema

What an amazing, warm, smooth and feeling sax tone. I dont see myself seeking this out or playing it on purpose but if its on I am definitely paying close attention to that incredible tone.

Bossa nova music. Not necessarily something I would voluntarily listen to but good background music at work maybe or for a calm atmosphere. Overall not bad; recognized ‘The Girl From Ipanema.”

Den absoluta peaken av en ganska tråkig genre

Bosa nova. Samba. Smooth jazz. I enjoyed this playing while I worked around the house. Pleasant to the ears.

I felt like this stayed in the same space from start to finish - it all kind of melted in together. An easy listen to have on in the background.

Classic love

Relaxing, almost too much so. Everything kind of blended together besides both standout versions of the classic Girl from Empanada. I mean The Girl from Ipanema.

Listening to this feels like being in South America. Always great to get some more culture into this challenge and there some good songs here. Highlights for me are the female vocals, and the great saxophone work from Stan Getz. All in all this was just a nice album to listen to.

Послушал все, все похоже друг на друга, только одна песня зашла. Джазз особо не нравиться оказывается мне

Didn’t entice me. Neutral.

Save :1

This was nice background music.

Decent listen.

Laid back and easygoing. Would have in the background

7/10 it’s alright

5.5/10

I do like it

Oooohh Bossa Nova!

I don't know if I'm a bossa nova kind of girl.

Haven't heard of them though obviously The Girl from Ipanema is a classic. Some proper good bossa nova 3/5

Cool jazz sounds.

Da, da da, da, dada da da. Yes, I know this one. Groovy, jazzy, lovely rhythms and superb musos. I'm on board for this.

A charming selection of bossa nova but with nothing that really stands out

- This is definitely background music, to me. The bossa nova feel is a lot for a whole album for me. This is pleasant, but doesn't move me at all. I wonder if I would have been more moved if I understood the lyrics, but I kind of doubt it. It gives restaurant/cafe/lounge during warm months vibes . - The guy's voice is weak, and he definitely can't hit those higher notes. The woman's voice is quite nice, but she only sings on a couple songs, though I like when she does. - The sax is pretty nice (I'm not usually into brass heavy music) - a little airy in parts, but mostly had a nice, warm tone. The rest of the instrumentation stays very background, but the piano is pleasant enough, too. - To be fair, I'm not into jazz, but this is pretty much only jazz adjacent and as accessible as jazz gets - it doesn't veer off the melody very far. I just don't find it that interesting, I guess, and the songs aren't super different from each other. It feels like Girl From Ipanema a bunch of times, though O Grande Amor is nice. - I think it's a 2.5. I'll probably round up because this genre isn't really my thing, but I didn't dislike it.

It's classic bossa nova. 4.5/5 if you are in the mood for it.

it’s a 5 star vibe but a 3 star experience

I feel a bit ignorant saying this, because I know how important this album is, especially coming from Brazil, but I just couldn’t really connect with it. It’s not that I dislike bossa nova; I actually really love Tom & Elis. For some reason, though, this one didn’t quite click with me. I’ll give it 3 stars.

I do enjoy bossa nova. Just a cruisey way to start the day

The finest elevator music ever made.

Nice, pleasant elevator music. Not sure how anyone could feel strongly about this in any direction.

Great chilled album loved the arrangements and mix of tempp

Nothing to write home about, it's just Bossa Nova music.

it's good... but just that, as it's not quite my style. it's good to have it in the background though

I’ve been trying for a long time but I think I’m finally about ready to admit that despite my best efforts that I don’t really like most jazz. Nothing against this album in particular, because it’s well-played and pleasant to listen to, and created a nice ambiance during dinner, but it doesn’t really move past “mood music” for me. I felt for a long time that if you were serious about music that you should at least appreciate jazz, and I’m not sure I’ll ever get there.

love the french vibe

Genre: Bossa nova A smooth jazz album that has stood the proverbial test of time, 62 years strong this year, Getz/Gilberto is as strong an entry in the genre as there could be, but that certainly didn't make it more enjoyable for me. I like listening to this sort of music, but never for more than necessary. It's good, beautiful even, but it's overall a bit too sleepy and a little too slow for me. A solid listen, and I enjoyed the back-and-forth, male/female, Portugese/English vocals, but I won't need to check this out again. Listen if you usually like this kind of stuff. 3/5

Apart from the language I don’t understand, this is a little “elevator music” jazzy for my tastes. Solid musicianship though. 3/5

It’s not bad, it’s not good. It’s firmly somewhere in the middle for me.

The music is great but this wasn’t the vibe I was looking for atm.

chill, never would have listened to otherwise.

I enjoyed the music but they all seemed pretty similar.

This is very pleasant, but sounds like variations on the same song (except for "The Girl from Ipanema"). If I had a cabana on a beach, I'd play this as I sipped cocktails to keep the vibes relaxed.

The jazz sounds nice

Although I didn’t speak the language it was a beautifully made album. I very much enjoy some Jazz and saxophone is one of my favourite instruments. All up a great easy listen

No. 343/1001 The Girl From Ipanema 4/5 Doralice 3/5 Para Manchuchar Meu Coracao 4/5 Desfinado 3/5 Corcovado 3/5 So Danco Samba 3/5 O Grande Amor 3/5 Vivo Sonhando 3/5 Average: 3,25 Relaxing and peaceful listen.

It's smooth jazz. Very influential, very well-performed, very groovy smooth jazz with absolutely no flaws...but in the end, it's not anything more or less than an exemplary specimen of the style. Also, most of the lyrics are in Portuguese, which may be a positive or a negative based on how much Portuguese you speak and how important lyrics are to you. Favorite tracks: Só Danço Samba, Vivo Sonhando, and yes, the iconic "The Girl From Ipanema."

A pleasant, easy listen. “Girl From Ipanema” is an obvious classic, but the rest is just as breezy. Nice work music, and I can handle jazzy stuff with vocals. Love the Brazilian influence.

Jazz isn’t my go to genre, but overall this one had a good sound to it! There were some songs that were quite vibey!

3.5 actually. im swaying like a seaweed

In an age defined by our excessive consumerism and inability to unplug from the world around us, it's hard to believe that an album of this tempo and minimalism would have set the world on fire more than sixty years ago, let alone remain relevant in contemporary music discourse. And yet, there is a distinct allure to be found in the cross-continental marriage of South American rhythms and North American blues that is front-and-centre on this showcase of the bossa nova sound, even in 2026. While João Gilberto's forlorn whispers and coos often fail to excite the senses across the album, his then-wife Astrud's modest and nonchalant vocals are positively magnetic. The odd couple, plus a tranquil samba beat and Getz' gilded sax, somehow altogether imbue the lead track in particular, 'The Girl from Ipanema', with an understated, timeless quality. Although this record stands as a vehicle for their partnership, Stan Getz often steals the show, filling the air with his schmoozy and nostalgic tenor sax on tracks such as 'Para Machucar Meu Coração' and 'Corcovado', recalling to mind dark, smoky cafes or sandy tree-lined promenades at sunset. The latter track slinks along in such romantic fashion that is hard to resist an armchair sway-along at least. Yet without Gilberto's melodic anchoring and Antonio Carlos Jobim's unassuming piano to provide the distinctly melancholic framework for Getz to rest upon, would the album still possess the same soul?

kultiger Latin Jazz

I really enjoyed it mostly because i was doing my assignments while listening to this album

Not really my thing. Pleasant, but doesn't capture my attention. Perhaps needs several listens to appreciate.

I kinda liked it

Fini prijatni kafanski jazz, malo dosadan sam od sebe ali ovo je odličan primjer takve vrste muzike, sviđa mi se više nego prošli Getzov album.

smoov jass

Peaceful, balanceed, light. Safe

Listening to this wired something in my brain that suddenly made life very interesting and pretty and large...

I feel like they may have drifted off after Girl from Ipanema, and you might too!

Nice enough, a little too laid back for my taste. But clearly quite an important album when it was released.

The vibes are immaculate, mostly because of the Brazilian taken here and less over the jazz lines of Stan Getz. It’s not perfect but it’s a good time and beautifully performed.

I hate "The Girl From Ipanema" so much.

Fine jazz, don't know what else to say.

I feel like bossa nova songs have suffered from being associated with campy Austin Powers style comedies or elevator music. This album was fun to listen to and made me think of a chilled out bar where you can get a good rum cocktail. But also taking a 1970s mirror/wood veneered elevator to get to that bar.

bossa nova on top hej znam z toho obvi the girl from ipanema cover hezounkej

Basic jazz

Classic bossa nova. Great for coffee shops, but nothing ground breaking.

not really my thing genre wise, but i actually really enjoyed it in the background and it made me quite calm

far from what i listen to on a daily basis but it was cool and i actually recognised one of the songs :)

Nice but all the "bossa and some other genre" albums have damaged the brand a little bit.

Fun album, classy tunes

Not really my style, but I'm glad I listened to it.

- genre: bossanova - very calming; great for studying or relaxing - a bit repetitive at times ranking: 7/10

me gusta el saxofon. canciones bastante parecidas entre ellas la verdad pero es chill.

Didn't think I would like a jazz album in a language I don't speak, but here we are. Added whole album to chill playlist w/andre 3k instrumentals, no song added to liked songs

Can immediately hear the influence this record had on other work. Very chill, easygoing songs, perfect for the background while reading or cooking. Vocals are smooth and beautiful, guitar is crisp, and I love the bass too. Saxophone solos are gentle but sexy.

Cool sound just not my thing

I went into this expecting to hate it, but it was good. Super chill.

not my usual style but its definitely a good album i might be going back to it☺️☺️

So very 60s lounge music. Cocktails and Mrs Robinson. Cool chilled vibe, enjoyable short listen. Not playing every day, but for a change of scenery, its a good album. The Girl From Ipanema is always a catchy earworm, in its many different renditions.

Always fun to look at the name of an album and think “I don’t recognize this” and the first song starts playing and you say to yourself “ooooohhhh” Never listened to a lot of bossa nova but it was pretty solid!

The saxophone is great, but the singing feels monotonous. The complex chord voicings often sound similar, and combined with the consistent tempo and bossa-nova groove, it becomes too much of the same for me. Every song is great on its own, but as an album there just isn’t enough variation. Absolutely perfect for background music though. Favorite song: Só Danço Samba

Schönes Album

A nice bit of bossa nova. Will definitely reappear in the summer

Relaxing album and ok.

I think everyone knows The Girl from Ipanema without knowing it's The Girl from Ipanema. Shame it has become associated with Elevator music but it is. 3/5.

Good background music, but not something I'd listen to otherwise.

very easy listening… at Parts a bit lame and slow.

Gestern nachts durch die Stadt schlendernd kam das schon echt gut, aber generell würde ich mich davon vermutlich weniger begeistern lassen.

Hat mir grundsätzlich gefallen. Bin ich aber auch gar nicht zu Hause mit.

The Girl From Ipanema: cool sound, I appreciate how reserved and stripped back the arrangement is but. it's lowkey boring Doralice: more of the same *Para Machuchar Meu Coracao: more of the same but it hits this time. the tone of that saxophone is out of control, seriously. butter smoothie Desafinado: mostly forgettable. it's background music up until the sax solo Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars): this one is a vibe, beautiful track. it's bizarre how these songs are all so similar but I feel so certain one way or the other about them. I don't honestly know what is setting them apart for me. So Danco Samba: once again, kind of a nothingburger but the saxophone solo still rips O Grande Amor: not sure if I'm just not in the right mood to be listening to new stuff but I keep having to force myself to pay attention because my mind is wandering off to other things. it's good background music but I have a hard time focusing on it *Vivo Sonhando: really enjoyed this one so positives: I love an album that sets a mood. it's super consistent in tone the whole way through, so it's something you can throw on to create an atmosphere rather than something you need to listen to intently. it feels like dining at a dimly-lit romantic restaurant. my main criticism is that I just didn't find it that interesting or exciting, but I don't think that was really their intention while making it. some of the songs blur together a bit, and I wish that I was surprised like...ever during the runtime, but it's very good at doing what it set out to do. also every saxophone solo eats DOWN __ SCORE: 7/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao Vivo Sonhando

Smooth and cool, just perfect for an easy listen, or intimate dinner background music.

It's chill jazz and that's great. But it's not my kind of chill jazz. I don't really care for vocals in my jazz. Overall, pretty good though.

Very relaxing and cool, but not something I'd listen to on a daily basis. 7/10 Favourite track: The Girl From Ipanema

Album #972 Oh, so this is the original The Girl from Ipanema, and not the one on the Beach Samba album. Well, this is a very chill, relaxing album of similar sounding songs. I don't feel I need to listen again though.

smooth og hyggelig!

Sygt smooth. Var ret lækkert at lytte til

Soothing, cozy, great for autumn / winter times. You almost feel like sitting in a bar having this as the background music.

Bosanova/jazz transfusion, soothing Doralice Corcavado

Definitely an album for a warmer time and place. The Girl From Ipanema is obviously a classic, and the rest of the album is as good. I love the breathy sax sound that Getz is able to produce. Great listen.

Decent but a bit boring for me today.. boost for being atypical within the 1001 project

My speed.

(3.5) girl from ipanema was gold then it started blending together a bit

Ah oui Henri Salvadorinho je connais

Rauhoittavaa ja hempeää bossa novaa. Tykkäsin fiiliksestä. The Girl From Ipanema tältä levyltä. Parhaat: The Girl From Ipanema, Desafinado, Corcovado, O Grande Amor

Here we have our second Stan Getz collab album and I think I prefer this one. There's some really good energy here with songs like Só Danço Samba. Overall, the music in this album feels very romantic. Like I picture myself on a date at a french cafe while listening to this music. I suddenly have an urge to watch Ratatouille for some reason. 3.5 Stars

Sultry, sensuous Sunday sensation

Chilled

Restaurant music

Giving this 3 because of the instrumentation and Astrid Gilberto's voice are smooth, but Joao should have just stuck to the guitar and no vox.

Nice lounge mellow album, good for relaxing or even reading.

It’s got a vibe

7/10 Favourite: The Girl From Ipanema Least Favourite: None

The girl from one big hit on this album and the rest is pretty good if not a bit forgettable. 6/10

I have never gone into a record store without seeing a copy of this in the used section for less than 5 dollars. Shoutout Brazil! Very relaxing album. Not something I would normally put on I like a little more bite in my music, but fine for the background while I was working. Favorite songs were The Girl From Ipanema, Corcovado, O Grande Amor.

Enjoyed this album and its jazz rhythm and vocals collaboration. The sound alone was elegant, beautiful album

It’s a good album for background music but not an album I’d actively put-on to enjoy. Bossa Nova just isn’t my thing I guess.

fun album, nothing amazing

Yeah, pretty good stuff, probably won't listen to it again -- but it was enjoyable.....

Highly pleasant listen but lacked the excitement I crave for a higher score

Good background music

Girl from Ipanema is amazing! Chill album

Fun Bossa Nova record. It got boring but it still was fun.

I didn't want to turn it off and it didn't make me want to pass out so that's better than 50% of this list. I'll probably never listen to it again though. Guess it's a perfect 3.

Nice a pleasantly chill.

sympa sympa

Transformed my morning commute into something sunnier.

Nah, not my cup of tea.

I have added Getz/Gilberto to my Jazzy Dinner Party playlist. I have not yet had a reason to break out my Jazzy Dinner Party playlist, but I am anxious to do so.

La chica de Ipanema, y lo demás es como un agradable hilo musical

Calm jazz/bossa nova

Great opening track but after that I kinda zoned out and you could not really distinguish one track from the next. Good tunes, like elevated lounge or hold music.

Smooth jazz

Smoother than a carioca's bum, but nowhere near as exciting.

Felt like I was smoking a cigar at a beach lounge whilst feeling the salt water breeze tickle my skin.

Had me singing Girl From Ipanema for hours

I love the production on this... whoever engineered this record should receive a grammy x10. The space... the tones... it's beautiful. The soft guitar parts are wonderfully layered on top of the other instruments and the vocals are layered over it. The saxophone is amazing. This is an amazingly done record.

Cool to hear the original (maybe?) version of girl from Iponema

I don’t like the man’s vocal

So chill and just well done musically.

Makes me want an Aperol Spritz

The Girl from Ipanema is a classic. It’s an important album in bossa nova. And it’s decent late night listening. But it all gets a bit sandy over time.

Pretty chill

The girl with emphysema

Maybe this is one you need to hear multiple times to truly appreciate, but I still overall just found it to be a pleasant experience, as much as it didn't grab me.

I don’t usually listen to bossa nova or jazz and don’t know much about them, but I was drawn in by Stan Getz’s saxophone—the lightness coming from his distinct breathy tone. Honestly, the vocals didn’t grab me, so I found myself wanting to just follow the sax all the way through. For the sax alone, it’s 5 out of 5.

я этот слышала уже и на базе него сделала вывод что не люблю боссанову. возможно больше всего меня останавливает этот говорливый вокал, т. к. духовые-то милые. но уже неразрывно с вокалом связанные

Jizzy Jazz motherfucker

Pretty nice

Jazz noodlings. Pleasant but no force.

I like Jazz, but I'm not a fan of Jazz vocals. If this were just the music, I'd decide between a 3 and a 4 rating. But with the vocals, I'm going 3. Despite some cool saxwork.

Easy listening. Brazilian sounds, relaxing kitchen dancing.

Great Songs: Good Songs: The Girl from Ipanema, Doralice, Para Machuchar Meu Coração, Desafinado, Só Danço Samba, Vivo Sónhando Mid Songs: Corcovado (Quiet Night of Quiet Stars), O Grande Amor Bad Songs:

Bossa nova at its best. Not really my thing outside of elevators though....

Smooth and silky

Very typical mix of the period - drums to the left speaker, piano in the right. In general, this album doesn't do much for me, except perhaps for The Girl from Ipanema. It's perfectly pleasant to listen to, and the players are clearly skilled.

Not really my genre (or language) but some good stuff there.

Chill but too repetitive for me to really like it. Can certainly put it on in the background as jazz filler, not groundbreaking but also not exciting.

This is fine background music, but doesn't really do anything for me.

Better people have said more eloquent things than me about this album, but i liked it. Gentle and soft and floaty, with a chilled out vide and a lovely top line.

What a vibe, made me want to fall asleep at my desk but very smooth. A lot of great solos. Loved the piano and saxophone features especially, and I thought the juxtaposition of the two singers' voices was perfect. Portuguese is such a cool language.

I love this version of Girl from Ipanema. Nice smooth sax, perfect for a nice dinner but not much listenability for me beyond that.

Easy - Girl from Iponema

Behagelig stemningsmusikk.

La tromba l'ha salvato, scalda sempre il cuore

The boss of bossa nova.

Great jazz album, smooth and clean throughout. I haven’t researched if this was a breakthrough in jazz, but otherwise it’s just good

Good bossa nova

Do you like jazz?

Very relaxing I ate blackened chicken fettuccini to this beautiful vocals no skips girl from Ipanema <3 viva sonhando my favorite

I’m not really a fan of the saxophone. It reminds me of Michael Bolton’s voice. Nothing against Michael, and to be fair I guess I should say that Michael Bolton’s voice reminds me of a saxophone, which is why I’ve never cared for it. Now that that’s out of the way, I didn’t mind the sax in this album. I especially liked the very airy, fuzzy sounds that were made with it. This album was good and I enjoyed the whole thing. It was very chill and easy to listen to. Favorite songs were “The Girl from Ipanema” and “Para Machuchar Meu Coracao.”

Good vibes

Ipanema is 2 stars alone

Okay, day three of this journey and again Brazil! No complaints, though, I am into a bossa nova and according to Wikipedia this is THE bossa nova album. Heck, it even starts with the Girl from Ipanema. Once again, listen with headphones to get the full enjoyment of the different channels. And now there's So Danço Samba, so I know two of these tracks already which is a comfort. Overall, very mellow, very groovy, and a good listen.

Did I just walk into the wrong waiting room? But seriously, you have to appreciate the musicianship and talent going on here.

You know what your gonna get from a Getz album. A solid jazz and bossa nova album.

A nice short jazz album. "Girl From Impanema" is a classic (though I think the single version is superior). However, nothing special from the jazz world on this one, so it ends up middle of the road.

Easy listening… but…

🌊🎶

the girl from ipanema - klasik, preslatko, odma ti kaze kakav ce bit vajb albuma, cant understand shit, piningggg <3 doralice - omg sax, isto nis ne razumijem para machuchar meu coracao - malo mi ovo nema smisla kad ne razumijem stihove, slatka muzika, street musician vajb, fora sax solo desafinado - muzika za chillanje, lajk corcovado - jej malo engleskog, slatki muski vokal so danco samba - muzika za kuhanje o grande amor - znam dovoljno spanjolskog da skuzim ime pjesme hihi, saxxx soloooo vivo sondando - kjut, ne znam the girl from ipanema - in case you missed it?, kraca verzija?, i dalje fora, zelim biti ona, slatka pricica corcovado - opet ???, ne kuzim ovo s ponavljanjem, ovo je significantly manje popularna verzija overall - bas onako jazz bar vibe, bilo bi jako fora live, steta pa nisam razumjela 80% albuma, moram naucit spanjolski ig, 5+ za sax soloe

This was plenty listenable. I don't know if I'll ever choose to listen to the like, but I certainly enjoyed most of this.

I know this I'm supposed to like this because it's from the Land of my Ancestors, but it's so slow and repetitive.

For what this is, I’m sure it’s great. Best song is first song.

It's an overwhelmingly pleasant album. So pleasant that it just sort of fades into the background when you listen to it. I have nothing but respect for Stan Getz - he's a super star in his very niche genre; however, that genre is more suited for a dentists office or an office cocktail party where the HR manager is too afraid to play pop hits so as not to offend the conservative CEO with songs about female empowerment or or remind him that other people who aren't at this office party are out there having fun.

The first song is fun

That was ok

This album looks like a textbook. Portuguese takes the lead over French yet again! This is great for those chasing a chill, mellow, familiar sound (i.e. me, most of the time). No one but Astrud Gilberto can get away with rhyming "sea" and "him". Nice but not very exciting, and since I don't know Portuguese I can't reeeally get into it.

Pretty good easy listening. "The Girl from Ipanema", is of course iconic.

Chill vibes. 3/5 #142

Liked this a lot more than I thought was kind of vibey
