Reviews (page 8 of 13)
Last time I had a bossa nova album, I enjoyed it so much I looked up top albums and ended up listening to this back then. It is a lovely album, I do particularly appreciate Astrud’s vocals. Very relaxing, gentle, and danceable.
kinda fire icl lalalallalala girl from ipanema walking lalalallaa goes hard i just be chilling playing minecraft or powerwash simulartor to this kinda music
???? wait i actually really like this somethin so peaceful about this didnt realise brazil had the sauce like this this is pretty good 4.1/5
Yes. And when this project is over I want to do a bossa nova version.
Didn’t understand a word, but very relaxing & chilled
This was a delightful album. I could definitely listen to it again!
This is what I'm looking for in lounge style music. Sitting in a dimly lit bar with a nice cocktail and relaxing. The rhythm can get repetitive, but the album is short enough it doesn't become annoying.
This album is pretty much what I know of bossa nova. The first song is 'Girl from Ipanema' - which everyone knows. Definitely worth re-listens and something I can just put on as background music.
Great driving music. Sounds start to sound very similar, but the vibe is undeniable.
Nice, relaxing Latin jazz
Pleasant.
Very Nice Listening - 4 stars
Really strong album, bossa nova style done so well, Getz particularly kills it as well, great performance all round though
This album was lovely. The vocals/instrumentals are so relaxing and evokes the feelings of laying on the beach on a beautiful, breezy summer day. The perfect soundtrack for a lazy, relaxing day.
I might have just needed this calm album this morning, but this one really did it for me.
Smoothest of jazz... Great for vacation time
BRING BACK THE BOSTON RAG
bossa nova; gran disco. además descubres a Astrud Gilberto
A pretty classic bossa nova album. Not bad.
This is the first time in over 700 albums that I'm going to write *both* the following: - this [bossa nova] is not a preferred genre for me - I'm immediately adding this to my music library Everyone knows "Girl From Ipanema" - even if you don't know it, you know it. This is the chillest of chill music that still keeps (or puts) you in a good mood. A little Stan Getz sax playing that gives the vibe of being in a club drinking whisky on your own without a care. Great stuff. And these old jazz albums just sound fantastic. Headphones recommended. 8/10 4 stars.
this album is a perfect summer day spent reading in the sun wearing a sundress and sandals 8/10
Jizz House more like Jazz Hour - 8/10
I had high expectations going in, given that this is one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. It was pretty good for study music, very peaceful. I don't know if I can choose specific songs but as a whole it was great. Like Loobis said the last one was elevator music, this is definitely hotel music or something.
such an easy listen, feel like this is my ideal restaurant etc music, love but can't see myself listening to this w/ headphones in just cause... like 10/10 for background but 7/10 listening experience rn.. so 8.5/10
7/10 - I enjoyed most of the pieces but I cannot listen to the girl from ipanema the same after hearing Hector sing it.
favourite song: corcovado really nice and relaxed. really enjoyed this
Под бокал вина в ресторане
TIL that bossa nova - of which this album is likely the best-ever example - was invented in the late 1950s. I also learned that sexism prevented Astrud Gilberto from being credited anywhere on this album, despite her classic Girl from Ipanema debut.
Hah! Ostin tän vinyylin viime viikolla. Täydellinen bossanova-levy! Aikoinaan vihasin mutta nyt rakastan. Lähes täydet pisteet! 4/5
really good smooth smooth jazz Significant 41/128 Liked 20/128 Added 5/128 YYY
Smooth bossanova; standout tracks are obviously Ipanema and Desafinado. Better than the Astrud Gilberto solo album we had, in large part due to the presence of Getz's sax.
Lovely album. Timeless classic.
Me ha gustado mucho, me pareció divertido y me puso de buen humor. Genial para el viernes por la mañana!!
4/5
ik ken deze van vroeger
Fun distraction, I could put this on again

Always thrilled to have a jazz album thrown my way. So much so that I’m definitely biased toward liking them and rating them highly. But man this album is such a vibe. I can see why it became so popular and helped spread the bossa nova across the world. Expert, precise playing from all involved. Wonderful soloing, great rhythm section, and the vocals really do well to match the style and vibe of everything else. My one complaint? The vibes between songs are so similar that a casual listen makes it difficult to tell one song from the next. That’s not as bad on an album I enjoyed though. Standout tracks: The Girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, So Danco Samba, Vivo Sonhando
Don’t know why exactly but loved this album. 4
Some nice bossa nova to put into the background. Perfect chill album and I didn't know this was the source of The Girl from Ipanema. Wish there were more albums like this from the bossa nova category instead of the nth 90s britpop . There has to be a lot more in this genre to discover.
First, this classic is the definition of nice music. Second, The Girl from Ipanema is absolutely divine, as is the singer's voice. This album used to be one of the select albums that people tried out when they wanted a taste of what jazz has to offer (together with the likes of Kind of Blue). Things don't work like that anymore, and I wonder if this "progress" caused Getz/Gilberto to disappear off the radar. Which would be a great shame.
Cool album
excellent - I had listened a lot before and really enjoy this one, good jazz sound!
Clam and good jazz music 4
Very recognizable and slow listening, very classy.
Great!
Bossa Nova, 1964 -> 4
Non-invasive kind of music. Generally considered as an classic. And I can't disagree. The kind of album that instantly gets you in a good mood.
I was skeptical when this appeared but it was a really fun listen. Great vibes, groovy melody and overall an enjoyable listen.
Like candy for your ears.
Un clásico de la bossa nova. Ritmos románticos, swing lento y canciones suaves. Letras prácticamente leídas y con un tono suave y dulce. Me encanta. Ideal para un día relax o hacer el trayecto al trabajo un poco más ameno.
Loved this. Moves me to a time I was never part of.
This was a fun listen. The songs with Gilberto’s vocals were my favorite. This is the first album that had a true earworm on it. The Girl From Ipanema was stuck in my head.
The quintessential bossa-nova album. From relaxing at home to hosting a cocktail party, this album is great.
Obviously the first track, "Girl from Impanema", is a classic but the rest of this album is just as catchy. What can immediately feel repetitive deserves a closer listen. Around what feels like the same guitar riff in every song are a lot of beautiful phrases from other instruments. The guitar provides the anchor for all of the rest of the music to flourish.
Brazil
The Girl from Ipanema top
Excellent album, one of a genre I don't know much about so a welcome addition. 4/5
4/5 Fun fun fun. Absolutely loved this album and would listen to it again. It flew by and it was ~vibes~
What the hell, I did not expect to enjoy an album from 1964 this much, especially a song not in English, and bossa nova too! Never in a hundred years. The Girl from Ipanema is such an awesome, fantastic, easy to listen to music and I'm not very surprised to find out that it's one of the most popular song of all time. Its my first time listening to it though and it will definitely enter my song rotation. Yeah most of the album is great. I like this a lot.
Very pleasant to listen to
eu amei muito, muito gostosinho de ouvir, a voz do joão é muito boa de ouvir e o saxophone do getz é ótimo, não tava esperando álbum brasileiro nessa lista tão cedo!
Vibes. Classic first track. Everything else kinda flowed together with the vibe set by Girl from Ipanema
Sax was the best part. Really cool mix of languages and vocals. Didn’t sound like it was recorded so long ago
light 8
Smooth jazzy Brazilian album
Very smooth, easy listening. Great for cooking or just relaxing at home. Would listen to again.
This was chill. Really cool bossanova jazz deal.
Background listening for me
It's the fucking girl from Ipanema! This album feels like smelling the faint hint of perfume when walking past an attractive stranger. Like the first sun rays gently warming your face on a cold spring day. Pleasant.
Soft music, it would be good to listen to as you fall asleep! Pleasant dreams....
Soulful, classy, relaxing. Made me want a cocktail and some elegant surroundings. Loved the trumpet sound and that infectious bossa nova! It did all blur into one, but I didn't mind. Needs a 7 out if 10 (again).
Evocative, smooth, sexy. Might have enjoyed it more if I spoke Portuguese, but not much. It’s a 3.5 really but it warmed up a freezing day so rounded up.
Years ago, a Brazilian colleague of my partner’s gave me every CD released by Tom Jobim. His music has been the sound track to many a London commute ever since. I can report that rainy January streets are much-improved by the sounds of sunny bossa nova. He really was a genius. I went to see Astrud Gilberto at the Jazz Cafe in the early 90s. I drank too much red wine to remember what my ears thought but at least I was there.
Already knew of this album before, a classic album
Don't know how often I'd return to this, but I really loved the experience! 3.5/5
1st listen I did not expect to be into this album but I dug the ambient vibe. The saxophone, guitar and vocals meshed in and out smoothly 3.5
The rhythms are very moving. would be fun to play percussion along with.
It was ok
Chill album
Eigentlich ganz gemütlich, vielleicht ein bisschen zu viel Jazz
Soooooo good! The skill and creativity of these musicians. Wow.
Pretty pleasant. I wish that I had heard it in the summer rather than the cold month of December but I think it did warm me up a tad.
Lovely
Bossa Nova anyone? Laid back, atmospheric, and groovy. It's like funk for runway models with no ass to shake, just a gentle bouncing swing through a cafe at dusk. Singular achievement. Total masterpiece fusing jazz and bossa nova. Just short of my heavy rotation because I'm not that chill.
A super silky smooth bossa nova album with great vocals and cool sax moments, worth a chill out too but make sure you have a drink in hand because it puts you in a lounge mood
very nice
Jazz, bossa nova. Suavecito. Relajante. Un 4.
The Girl from Ipanema. Love it.
1. the girl from ipanema - 3 2. doralice - 1.5 3. meu coracao - 2 4. dezafinado - 2 5. corcovado - 3 6. danco zamba - 1.5 7. o grande amor - 2 8. vivo zonhando - 1.5
The Girl From Ipanema- 4.7/5 Doralice- 4.8/5 Para machucar meu coração- 4.3/5 Desafinado- 3.8/5 Corcovado- 4/5 Só danço samba- 3.7/5 O grande amor- 4.5/5 Vivo sonhando- 4.7/5 Total- 4.3/5
A beautiful album. The Girl from Impaenema is gorgeous and the rest of the album is almost as beautiful. The singing is ubderstated, the arrangements spare and nearly perfect but for me the star of the album is Stan Getz his playing is nothing short of perfect. The tone of his sax is warm and lush and complements the song perfectly never overpowering. Great album 4.5 stars
At first I was like wtf is this...then suddenly I find myself humming the first song over and over again. I put this on again while making breakfast and was hooked. Can't believe I'm saying it, but this album is a banger! 4/5
I liked this quite a bit. No idea what they were saying a lot of the time, but the entire album was so smooth and so… enjoyable.
Her voice is incredible! This made me want to be living the simple life in Italy or something.
4. I don't mind it but it's not my favourite. Love the saxophone in this. This jazz is awesome
Really calming but at certain point it gets too much nonetheless still impressive!
this is that good shit. comfy, beautiful lines from everyone
Always love a jazz album, especially one that it seems Frank Sinatra liked too. Couple classics on here and a pretty short album but I’ll take that over a longer UK folk rock thing.
An excellent departure to some latin jazz stuff. I feel like we've seen either the Getz or Gilberto name on the list (possible both, but not together until now), not even certain if it was one of the same guys. But this one's really cool, love the blend of voices, and everything is very smooth, cafe-style standards. Almost, ALMOST gave me a Christmas vibe, just because it's so relaxing. But yeah, excellent album, love when we get something completely different on the list (take a note, '90s British rock bands). Favorite tracks: The Girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, Corcovado, O Grande Amor, Vivo Sonhando. Album art: One of those classic '60s jazz album covers that frames a work of art, plus some bold, colorful font. They really were in a pocket with these, and I love it. 4.5/5
Chilled back bossa album, it can get boring at times, but overall a nice listen. It is also has the tiktok song (The Girl From Ipanema). 7.5/10
7/10
Jaaaaazzzzzzzzz! 4.0
Great album. Brings back memories at my uncles house
Brazillian Jazz!
Jazz always gets a high grade in my book
A cool ocean breeze. There's a reason Getz is "the sound" and you can hear it here. Impeccable guitar tone and saxophone sound and phrasing. This is a 60s cool gin-soaked club night in a sports coat with an undone collar. All through a maraschino lens. This is what happens when jazz is just right. You can't help but be in it no matter what.
Wonderful album, excellent vibe
I was not having the best of days. Teaching high school math to a number of students who don't want to learn high school math. So I put this on on the drive home and really a lot of my cares kinda melted away. It was a good album to center myself. I will say that some of the vocals (like in "Doralice") was a little grating. Perhaps if it was an instrument or if I thought of the vocalist as an instrument I would have liked those pieces better. I didn't realize how different the single and album version of "The Girl From Ipanema" are. A very stark contrast. It was really the kind of album I needed for the kind of day I was having. Just wish some of the vocalists (not all) were better.
There's no other music genre that soothes me more than bossa nova. This is such a good record to keep in mind for future bossa nova listening because it was so calming and healing. It was only slightly too similar chart to chart. But I love that sound so much that it didn't even bother me that much.
Kinda made my day honestly
Nice, sweet sax music
Nice.
Relaxed weekend vibes.
0 разнообразия, но как будто так и надо
This album is a brilliant fusion of jazz and bossa nova, showcasing the best of both musical worlds. It features some of the most iconic songs of the genre, such as "The Girl from Ipanema", "Desafinado", and "Corcovado", which are recognisable as have been covered by many artists over the years. I can see why the album was a huge commercial success, becoming one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. The performances are flawless, creating a smooth and elegant sound that blends the coolness of jazz with the warmth of Brazilian rhythms. This album is a masterpiece of jazz and world music, and a landmark in the history of bossa nova. An album Iv now added to my frequent rotation list, I give it 4 stars out of 5.
Pleasant. On The Girl from Ipanema It sounds like she's singing 'The Girl from Ipanema is fucking' which made me laugh because I'm a child. Great breathy sax playing
so nice
Perfect for a sunny day in the park with your friends
Great classic Brazillian Jazz, exquisite and mellow. Let Joao and Astrud Gilberto sing. The extreme closeup on Getz's tenor sax is jarring to me. Really great songs. Surprising that this was as popular as it was! First, it's mostly Portugese, and second, it's Jazz! A really important album that (sort of) defines its Jazz sub-genre. A good jumping off point for this kind of music.
Great album. Very easy to listen to. Vocals were great. Music is great. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing, mellow listen.
Really liked this, listened to it a few times back to back already. This is the first on the list of latin jazz that’s really clicked for me. Agree with Jamie, there’s always a time and a place for this sound, more so than with other jazz, but today I’ve really liked it. Just wish I was on a beach with a pina colada
It's almost surreal to hear the original of The Girl from Ipanema. It's such a common song it never occured to me to look for the original. Such a good example of an album that has a mood throughout that carries it somewhere better than any individual song could do. Skillful players for sure but this was so relaxing to sit back with. 4/5
Perfect album to just exist to while listening.
Ekstremtt velfungerende blanding af jazz og bossa nova, lækker akustisk guitar og fræk sax
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this album but was pleasantly surprised! It is laid-back but also full of energy. If you told me this was released in 1964 before I looked it up I wouldn’t have believed you; it feels so fresh. I especially enjoyed the tracks with Astrud Gilberto—her voice is stunning.
This was amazing. So calming and beautiful
Gentle chill, sitting and watching the world go by
I enjoyed it! Wasn't quite as focused on listening as some past ones, but it was a very chill vibe and I could totally imagine using it as study music. Solid.
I've not listened to much Bossa Nova but that is the reason why I'm trying to work through the 1001 album list. It's always a joy to experience good music in genres you've not paid attention to in the past. This was such a vibe and almost got me up dancing around the room...and I'm very much not a dancer. Stan Getz is just a great Sax player and worth listening to this for his playing...because I don't know what João Gilberto is saying. Sandouts: The Girl from Ipanema, Para Machuchar Meu Coração, Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)
Jazz with soft singing awesome
It was a very soft and calm album, which made it a rather pleasant listen. The vocals are great too, their voices are nice and fit the music perfectly. It's short and sweet, which I always appreciate. My favourite song was The Girl From Ipanema.
Quite pleasant, the tracks are calming. Perfect for listening while working on something. Soothing vocals.
Great way to start a lazy morning. Very chill, very lovely. There's something magical about Portuguese I reckon.
I think that the album sounds a bit dated from 2023 ears, but it's an inevitable album, and it's still great.
Good background noise, : )
Relaxing vibe but not transformative to what I chose to listen to
I thought this was really rad. I love the story about the female vocal being very last minute ad hoc and then becoming THE CANONICAL VERSION haha Mellow and easy but very dense musically, and very accessible for 'jazz'.
Lovely record, one of my favorites.
4-4.5
I kinda getz this, and if I wanted to listen to this style again, I would choose this
This is a great jazz/bosa nova album I played this while cleaning on a Sunday morning and it was the perfect fit. Really chill and slow with smooth sax in the back, I enjoyed this one.
This was such a relaxing album. I didn’t understand much of the lyrics but I could vaguely tell what the songs were about. My favorite parts were honestly the saxophone solos because the tone was so beautiful and soothing.
Perfect Bossa Nova/jazz vibe. Extremely enjoyable.
i love me some jazz again
Great album. Excellent for relaxing after a tough day.
Very smooth. Very mellow. Maybe just a tiny bit boring. I just wish that there was any time in my life right now (a middle aged, farther in Yorkshire) where listening to this was appropriate to what I was doing. It’s not really walking to work in the rain or doing the washing up style music.
Nice bossanova vibe. I liked it.
I am sure that in 1964 this was played on many record players in many homes like you would see in an episode of MAD MEN. The Girl from Ipanema is CLASSIC bosa nova - Perfection. Standouts: The Girl From Ipanema All the rest of the songs are beautiful, although completely unknown to me. If you want a nice easy listening bosa nova album, this is probably the best. 4/5
So smooth, so good. 7.5/10
Smooth overall sound. Great background music with a fun vibe
This is THE classic lounge music sound. Perfect background music to unwind to. Soothing instrumental and gentl, melodic vocals. Just nice and relaxing; nothing more, nothing less.
Really lovely, and pretty flawless. Transports you to another place and time, someplace warm and dreamy. Fave Songs: The Girl from Ipanema, Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars), O Grande Amor, Só Danço Samba, Para Machucar Meu Coração
During the first track I was worried that I wasn't going to like this much as Girl from Ipanema has become the basis of elevator music. Though quickly I got on this album's wavelength and this is very much the kind of record I want to put on then pour myself a glass of scotch and light a cigar. Fantastic.
Was stoked to see this pop up yesterday. Such a beautiful classic album that just puts you in a good mental space. 8/10
fantastic bossa nova album
Though I don't understand most of the album, the smooth latin jazzy vibe is just so cool. You feel cool while listening to it. The breathy soft sax works with the light latin beats. Greatly enjoyed.
Classic
Nice, relaxing and feel-good.
Classy tones, Groovy tunes, and chill vibes. A wonderful blend of acoustic guitar, sax, and piano. Jazzy and romantic. This album is dope
The previous generation's Buena Vista Social Club and in the best sense. So smooth and easy. Delicious listening.
Love it what a colab.
very nice to listen to while working
Friday night, so it's time to cook a decent meal, pour a cocktail or two and have a nice evening. So this was perfect for that. Very enjoyable as jazz/bosa fusion in it's own right, but perfect as background music for something like a nice meal. I'll listen to it again in those circumstances and it might get occasional other play. Yeah, it's OK.
Alfa piano, sax, drums and guitar. Not much to say but this is Alfa music and if you don’t like it idc.
This was a whole vibe. Giving Havana cafe, coffee and cigar.
Lovely album. Good listening, I’ll listen again.
I've already listened to it and I enjoyed it very much
Relajante, volveré a escucharlo sin duda
Good Italian jazz
Beautiful!
Jazzy and good
4.5
Immediately feel sad I'm not listening to this on vinyl sipping martinis, very enjoyable.
one of the most calming records of all time, very nice in the ears 9/10 - sam trailblazer for the bossa nova genre, it's a fantastic record that catapulted it into mainstream western ears and as a mainstay in jazz cannon. in short, 9.5/10 - robyn
Loved
Very defining album, showcasing Bossa Nova to an international audience. Love it
Really enjoyable perfect for the background
Great stuff.
Famous songs. hope this will be fun to program to. a little repetitive but DAMN what soul. 4-5 stars easy.
The classic loungey bossa nova record. It's short, solid, and consistent. Pretty repetitive with little standout tracks (besides the obvious). But it does its job and it does it well.
Restaurant music at its best.
Effortlessly cool and laid back, I liked this a lot
Delightful
Have you ever noticed that when there is music in an elevator, it's always The Girl from Ipanema? No? Just me and the Blues Brothers then. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed this album, easy going vibes.
This is definitely a bop
Zeer rustgevende muziek met een zomerse toets. Maar eerder iets om als achtergrondmuziek in een tapasbar op te zetten
What a great record! I loved this on the first spin. It’s such a good vibe for the darkening summer nights, drinking a great wine. I only wish for a bit more variety in the compositions. 8 out of 10
Enjoyed the two listens! Pretty good jazz album, would listen again!
what a joyful surprise, this self-titled joint album between stan getz and joão gilberto. this sultry jazz album was such an easy listen! gilberto's voice was incredibly smooth. switching between portugese and english added to the mood. there's something lovely about music in a foreign language! i'm not mad about this album at all, though i'm sure there were intricacies i didn't appropriately appreciate.
Pleasant and high quality
Getz/Gilberto is a classic statement of jazz and bossa nova. The presence of the great Brazilian vocalist and guitarist João Gilberto lends this album its legitimacy alongside pure Bossa Nova records. Getz's saxophone playing is delicate and sensuous, and plays well against the languid guitar and singing. This album is simultaneous relaxing, yet will make you move your hips if you're not careful
The Girl from Ipanema might be one of the most iconic songs of all time.
Interesting
Pretty good.
Listened Before? No The Girl From Ipanema is such a light and pretty song. Love the guitar progression and the sax overlay around the 2:40 mark. Great music for letting all of your cares dissolve. Para Machuchar Meu Coracao is a languid love song. The sax work through the back quarter has so much emotion and restraint. Makes for a very soothing listen. This album lost a bit of my focus during the midsection, as the sounds started to run together a bit, but I enjoyed its company nonetheless. This is a cozy jazz album with quality vocalists and even better instrumentals (particularly the saxophone). I haven't listened to much bossa nova, but I can see the appeal. The songs don't feel cool and unrushed, and seem ready made for vacation listening. This is a solid 4 / 5 to me. Added to Library? Yes Songs Added to Playlists: - The Girl From Ipanema (Sunny-vibes)
All songs here were present in past João Gilberto's solo albums. Getz sax adds an extra flavor but still pretty good as the original ones.
I really enjoyed this album, it's not the type of music a listen to, but it was amazing. Just very chill vibes.
I liked this.
Music so cool it makes me feel cool just to be listening to it. Cool cover art, too.
Good lounge music
Great jazz album. This is almost a 5 but isn't because it fades into the background and loses my attention. This is on my "list" of guitar music that I want to learn. Astrud Gilberto's vocals are chill and pleasant.
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t know ‘The Girl from Ipanema’. It’s a classic and this is a wonderful album.
I wondered if this would show up today. RIP Astrud. I got into bossa nova and samba back when Jobim passed away, and yet I somehow never listened to this whole album. I knew several of the songs, but the rest were really great, too. And what can you say about Ipanema, other than "Damn I wish I'd written that one." Second most recorded song in history. And it deserves every bit of praise it gets. I just love Astrud's voice. Relaxed and mellow, with a touch of sadness. And I dig Getz's sax playing. Very breathy and chill. Yes, the album is very same-y, but some albums do that well. Like this one. Five stars? Maybe not, but I can't see going lower than 4, unless you wanna deduct points of Getz being an asshole.
Classic jazza nova. The longest day at the best beach.
smooth, love me any bossa
Today's album is a samba/jazz/bossa nova record. I'm not overly familiar with the samba/bossa nova scene, but have been getting introduced to it through this generator, so we will see how this goes. This album features composer and pianist, Antonio Carlos Jobim, who was featured on the Frank Sinatra record Sinatra/Jobim which I reviewed a while ago. That record also featured the song "Girl from Ipanema", which is a stellar track. The woman that they got to sing that song on this album was Astrud Gilberto. She was in a relationship with the feature guitarist Joao Gilberto. The saxophonist, Stan Getz went behind Joao's back, and fooled around with Astrud causing her and Joao to split, and her to start officially dating Stan. All this happened while this record was being produced. Nothing like a little love triangle to make the music flow. Perhaps one of the factors that may have saved this record was the fact that Gilberto was Spanish, and Getz was American. Jobim was the translator between them, and I guess Gilberto would tell Getz off, but Jobim would translate it as if Gilberto was singing Getz's praises. This music is stellar dinner party or cooking music. It is so relaxing and easy listening, with the Spanish/jazz liveliness. By times, the saxophone feels out of place, but apparently Getz "stole the Spanish sound for his own gain", so by doing a joint album, it was the Spanish's way of taking it back. I would certainly listen to this record again. It went well playing as I worked today. It isn't a genre of music that demands your undivided attention. Favourite songs: Corcovado (Quiet Night of Quiet Stars), So Danco Samba, Para Machuchar Meu Coracao, The Girl from Ipanema, Doralice, Desafinado Least favourite songs: O Grande Amor 4/5
Good
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: The girl from Ipanema
Great background music. Even if the vocals sound below the note, Rian.
A little too far into the “easy listening” camp for me. But an undeniable classic
Good! The instrumentals are beautiful.
Genieten voor in de ochtend
Ooh toffe ontdekking
chill
Another gorgeous album, with one of the smoothest sax tones known to man and lovely vocals throughout
Nice album. A little too calm to my opinion.
Nice album!
Extreme calmness. I like it. Can get a tad bit repetetive on an active listen but a great album nonetheless.
Smooooooth
I don't like jazz but I enjoyed this. First listen was in my office and was maybe 3 star but when I was doing DIY in the sun it was good. So I will give it
This album mostly recovers from her walk into the sea (looks straight ahead, not at he). That song, the first here, is such a high water mark. And yet, the album is filled with solid Stan Getz playing and holds its vibe. It's a pleasure to put on when you have the time and space to listen with intent because if you have it on as just background music it will only ever be "pleasantly same-y" aside from the Girl from Ipanema.
very nice, 8/10 album i like the ambient tone throughout, it feels as if im at cool jazz lounge/bar
Pretty good. Samba. Sax. Girl from Ipanena.
Jazz doesn't get much chiller or lovelier, now does it? Getz had as recognizable and pleasing a sound as anyone in jazz. It's suffered a bit from overexposure, perhaps, but it's legit, dry and cool and flowing. The earlier the bossa, the better.
I enjoyed this album a surprising amount. It's not usually the genre I'd go for, but the combination of enticing vocals and unique instrumental arrangement made for a wonderful listen. I felt like I was in an artisan cafe in the middle Paris.
Groovy. This is what really kicked off the Bossa Nova craze, and all of the songs are pleasant and soothing. Though personally it’s not really much of a record to spin and find new stuff on from each listen. They’re much better jazz out there, though if you’re looking for a good Bossa Nova time, you’ll find it here.
This is a delightful album to listen to. Incredibly calming background music while working. Gotta remember Stan Getz next time I have a dinner party with some new friends so I can pretend like I listen to classy music all the time. All jokes aside, I think Evelyn would like this album the most.
Lista funcionou bem para me lembrar que estou no momento de escutar mais bossa nova. Agora consigo apreciar a elegância e expressividade da melodia e formação instrumental da bossa nova.
I ❤️ bossa
Hårt som fan
The Girl From Ipanema takes me right back to high school, we did a jazz performance project and this was one of the songs I sang. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the rest of the album though. I'm not a huge fan of jazz but this one was really good.
Good music for doing work or just sitting around. Probably not an album I would revisit frequently, but this was very influential and is a good listen.
I really enjoyed this album. I have never listened to minimalist bossa nova before and I found it quite calming
7/10. A little let down, because I liked Getz's Jazz Samba a lot, but this didn't quite do it for me. Desafinado was still nice, though
Very relaxing and calming music
4.75
Jazz. Bossa nova
Definitive samba album by one of the definitive samba saxophonists
This was just okay. I found it a little slow, though the songs were nice. I've listened to multiple times since, as well as more jazz I appreciate more. Upping from 2 to 4.
My father would play this album often when I real young and Girl From Ipanema is one of the earliest songs I every recall enjoying. The rest of album is very good and one I've gone back and listen to often. Great cover art as well.
Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I really dig samba. I could put just the guitar, bass, and percussion on an all day loop and be happy. And I love this record. Doesn’t mean it’s good, but I’ll rate it as if it is.
Score: 80 Album art: 70 It's not this albums fault but I couldn't stop imagining k.k. slider singing along to the songs instead. Extremely ez breezy album at only 30 minutes and very nicely made smooth music. I liked the storytelling from the moments I could understand. Very cool
Very smooth and mellow. Went nice with some pipe smoking.
o jazz é muito diferenciado mas o vocal é uma merda apesar de todo o apelo (quebra de paradigma-mas na verdade parece sem vontade de viver)
Liked it
This is some snazzy jazzy. It sounds like background music at some high falutin’ dinner. Extra credit for the foreign language adding to the pretentious feel. I enjoyed this a lot.
Not my favourite genre yet, but I’m not completely giving up
Chill AF classic Bossa Nova Jazz goodness. I knew of the first track but might have enjoyed the others a bit more, perhaps just because they were unfamiliar. I felt like I had quite a classy Saturday night listening to this, sipping whisky.
loving this, very chilled. It would be good for art workshops.
not a lot of stand out favourites in this album. i wouldn't say i'm a huge fan of bossa nova, but this is one of the classic albums of that genre. very soft and mellow throughout, i'd put this on when i want to slow down.
Very calm and easy listening music. Something to have on in the background at a brunch or pre-dinner drinks.
a nice album to have on in the background
Cool bossa nova album, great for just relaxing and watching the birds. It is a bit on the easy listening side.
Ну норм
I actually liked it. 3.45-ish.
This is fun. A bit boring and not really my style of jazz, but nice.
Pleasant, but not much beyond that. ★★★
Chill vibes, probably wouldn't go back to it but nice easy listening.
Depending on your mood this is either a sexy romantic soft groove, or nap time music.
Smooth.
So mellow I nearly lapsed into incontinence.
I love bossa nova, just wish stan getz wasnt the representative for bossa nova

This would go crazy in the elevator of my office building and at the noname cafe on its first floor. The Girl from Ipanema had somehow reached me through memes. I was surprised this is how old it is.
The girl from ipanema and corcovado are the only ones i liked but the overall vibe of the album is just amazing
Thank God for jazz Some nice jazz It's kind of funny at moments and I haven't figured out if it's on purpose Will listen again sometime A solid 3,5/5
Probably the most essential and important Bossa Nova album of all time. Unfortunately, the sheer number of Bossa Nova albums we've already covered in this project has made it so I couldn't tell the difference.
I love the girl from ipanema already - delightful. Music that makes me wish I could dance. Music for lying back on grass, watching blossom flap limply in a warm breeze. Feel like I’m drinking red wine in a restaurant On The Continent that’s about to close, or aboard a Gondola. The romance of it all! This is utterly charming, fun, beautiful, delicate without being feeble. I love a bit of sax and they have not been stingy with it. I like it when an artist wants the listener to have a good time.
Interesting álbum
Exactly the kind of album you expect when someone says "hey you should listen to this brazilian music".
…pleasant! Perhaps warrants another listen or two.
Nice and flowy. The kind of album that I won't go back to frequently but when a song from it comes on it's the proverbial breath of fresh air.
Perfectly pleasant bossa nova/jazz. I enjoyed the vocals, particularly for practising Brazilian Portuguese listening! The sort of thing that’s fine in the background but I’d never choose to put on again.
Its quite a soothing lounge music type of jazz album. In fact, I accidentally had one song playing on repeat several times without noticing.
I fuck with it
I literally don't know how to rate it. Sometimes you feel that it's a bit lacklustre, but then a certain groove hits and you just melt into the music. Definitely not a "day" album, it's best to listen in the evening after a hot summer's day or (even better), deep into winter when you need that boost to get through short and gloomy days.
Pleasantly surprised. Not something I would listen to through choice but I didn't mind it at all. And the first track "The Girl from Ipanema" is a song I didn’t' know I already knew, now I know where it comes from.
Would put on at a BBQ
Well executed but this still can’t be more than background music for me. High 3.
Its OK
Girl From Ipanema is a goddamn classic, but the rest of the album was just pretty solid. Nothing blew my socks off, but still an enjoyable listen. Would probably jump to a 5/5 on the beach with a beer in one hand and a joint in the other.
The Girl from Ipanema is amazing. Period.
Chill.
Felt really good to listen to, though not particularly special. Not many other notes I can make here honestly.
nieuwe liedjes voor de latin american jazz playlist????
It was pretty good, but not really my type of music
Ok its great. But its all WAY too similar.
easy background music. girl from ipanema is iconic. 4 seems too high, 3 too low. but going three.
favs: the girl from ipanema para machuchar meu coracao corcovado o grande amor the girl from ipanema corcovado (quiet nights of quiet stars) rating 3/5
girl from Ipanema mention?
As a chill listen I really enjoyed parts of this, solid like 3.75 for music just to have on.
suena cute, es muy lofi. El bossa nova creo que me parece agradable, el Jazz no tanto aunque hacen una linda combinación. Las voces son muy dulces y suena cinematográfico
Great if you wanna focus a lot of the songs just flow together so I forgot to like them, but it doesn’t sound bad at all, but I don’t think I’ll be returning to it perfectly OK
This is fine. Some nice easy listening. I enjoyed The Girl From Ipanema the most. Overall, however, this isn't really my genre of choice and I don't have much to say about it beyond that.
Easy listening, fantastisk ton av Getz. Inte särskilt spännande fusion av jazz och latinamerikanska toner. En trea
Bossa nova is always nice, but this one felt like just the basics and not a lot more. Gilberto's great voice was canceled out by the bad recording quality of the brass
I'm not the target audience for this type of release. That being said, it was nice.
