Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Songs are ok, guitar is great as you would expect from Hendrix
I don’t think there is a guitar sound he did not explore here. Extraordinary. It touches on blues but creates a path for the rock, metal, garage and indie that would follow in the decades to come. While not my preferred style of rock, a guitar lover will always rate this highly.

Classic tunes.
Himi Jendrix
4.4 it’s THE experience honestly sick amazing guitar work
I'm not the biggest Jimi Hendrix fan, but there is no denying the power, originality and influence of this album. Amazing energy and holds up well.
yeah, that's a great album. i remember sitting in my friend dan's living room in like 7th grade with a tape recorder, repeatedly recording and speeding up the slowed-down bit at the beginning of Third Stone until we could understand it. i was surprised at how much i liked both Love Or Confusion and May This Be Love
All the big ones in here, super good.
Own it. Got in college. Still have on phone. Funny to listen to as elementary school teacher with door propped open. Also...used to listen to entire CD for years and forgot songs...getting old.
You know what, I really tried to like Jimi when I was a nipper but I was turned off by what I thought was boring virtuoso guitar music. I was a very silly child.
The man knows how to guitar
Yes i am
Outstanding album, especially for a debut such as it is. I think by modern standards, it is maybe a little long in the tooth, but pretty much every song is a classic.
A true classic with virtually every song well known, but for good reason.
Some classic tunes on this album. Good listen
I like Jimmy
Not a fan of Jimi Hendrix, but this album surprised me. Pretty solid.
Not an album I come back to all that often, but I enjoy it so much whenever I do.
Blues Classic
Great album.
nice
7/10. Can see myself listening to this more
2/26 Gotta relish these funky psychedelic relics. Standout Tracks: Manic Depression, Hey Joe, I Don’t Live Today, Fire, Third Stone From The Sun, Are You Experienced?
aw hell yea, love the Hendrix. This is how u make a strat sound fkn huge. 4/5.
I thought it was a solid album for rock. The basslines and guitar riffs were nice. But it just didn't speak out to me. It's a great album for the genre but it just isn't my thing.
6/10
Overall a good album, but a very long one.
I wouldn't listen all the time, the ongoing funky guitar riffs are not for me but if i heard this once in a blue (get it like the blues)i would be vibing.
Dober
Not Jimi's best album for me. Still really good, but like most of his albums, it feels long, and a lot of the tracks start to blend together. The guitar work is amazing as always, though. I think I'd enjoy these songs more if I listened to them individually rather than all back to back as a full album. Favorite track(s) Hey Joe The Wind Cries Mary
That was a little boring wow
It's giving blues brothers for some reason
I mostly really enjoyed this! I could tell he was very talented and unique, but most of the album blended together after I finished it. Also, I got weird vibes anytime he sang about women.
jimi hendrix is a legend and i imagine this album was definitely next level stuff back when it released. but listening to this more than 50 years later, when music and technique has evolved so much, i can't help but find jimi hendrix to be a little slow, maybe slightly dull at times and not that impressive anymore when compared with todays musicians and instrumentalists. that being said, i still think jimi hendrix's music was revolutionary, he was a great guitarist, probably the best of his time.
I already know and love Purple Haze but it was cool listening to the rest of the album. The Wind Cries Mary sounded very familiar as if it was used as a sample but I couldn't find anything via research. Red House sounds somewhat similar to yesterday’s album 1960 Newport Festival by Muddy Waters so I’m sure there was maybe some influence from the era if not directly from Muddy Waters
I enjoyed this. I knew quite a few songs. This is better than the other Jimi Hendrix album I had. I knew Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Fire, and Foxey Lady. The Wind Cries Mary was also familiar.
purple haze: hendrix is a guitar god for a reason! lovely song, and i see why it’s so wildly popular, “scuse me while i kiss the sky/guy”. til, this is called a mondegreen. when you’re in love, you’re in a lavender haze, so is that the purple haze? manic depression: actually feels like manic depression, especially the outro and the slow fading out. hey joe: whatta song! so surprised when i found out this was a cover of a billy roberts song. listen to the deep purple cover! ALSO, brilliant song to practice. love or confusion: is this love, or is it, is it confusion? i love the way he asks it, and i love mitch on drums! i like the drawl. may this be love: ooh, what a crazy intro! and the slow building up of the drums. what’s waterfall? is it a substance, of a person? i don’t live today: okay song, as in, i understand why he was so big and continues to be so good, and i love the guitarwork, BUT it’s tiring and not as interesting for me anymore? don’t waste your time on this, lol, v relatable song, “oh, i don’t live today, it’s such a shame to spend your time like this, existing.” amazing outro, super chaotic. the wind cries mary: LOVELY! the kind of music i like, v evocative lyrics, and i can see myself close my eyes and roam around. soothing guitar and the drum is nicely supporting, doesn’t overpower at all. fire: “let me stand next to your fire”, huh? what’s up man? not my favourite song, but i like the guitar solo at 1:25 third stone from the sun: i love! most favourite intro till now, and this is about earth? lovely lovely song, genuinely feels like science-fiction and i see why this was so radical at the time. “then you’ll never hear your surf music again!” foxey lady: MAN! i already like this song, “foxey…foxey”. i like the guitar also, and there’s something so breathtaking about how he says foxey and “you make me want to get up and scream.” are you experienced?: this i know, the chug chug chugga chug in the beginning is so cool! what’s it about, huh? i think all of these songs sound better when you’re psychedelic.
As a percussionist myself, I really appreciated
Great debut. Is the first time that I hear the whole album. I liked "Manic depression" and, especially, the psychedelic jam "Third Stone from the sun" (used with great effect in Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers").
I was stoked when this came up. I hadn’t listened to it since probably around high school or a bit after and remember loving it. Purple Haze and Hey Joe? Hell yeah. I hate to say that it just doesn’t hit the same way as it used to. It feels so much more noisy and sloppy than I remember, and that felt a little off-putting. There’s still no denying what Jimi and this album did for music during that era, but it’s gonna be a sad 3⭐️ from me.
Ok. Wouldn't go out of my way to listen to this again.
Love the design of the album. Very unique typography. And the album it’s a master piece , def a great guitarist
Decent guitarist, eh? What else you got? Oh, nothing.
meeh
Meh
Rating is based on the original UK release, which does not include Purple Haze or The Wind Cries Mary.
I like this but not overly so. Honestly I'm just not a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, this just isn't really my thing. I like parts of this when the guitar just takes over and really just jams out but it doesn't really stand out to me. I get that Hendrix is really influential to rock and modern music, but this is just alright to me. Fav Track: Purple Haze
pretty good, but I found the instrumentals to be kind of monotonous
- I wasn’t really in the mood for this - I generally like Jimi Hendrix, but listening to this all the way through didn’t really hit the same way
Some songs blended together but by and large an enjoyable album with lots of fun experimentation within each tune. Highlights: "Hey Joe", "May This Be Love", "The Wind Cries Mary"
cool psychedelic sound but blues rock has never really been my thing. i can appreciate this album for what it is
There's no denying how talented Hendrix was and how important he was for the music scene, however I am not a fan myself. It just isn't my type of style, but I can appreciate it for what it is. My favourite was I Don’t Live Today followed by Are You Experienced?
A lot of the songs sound the same to me but what stood out to me was purple haze, may this be love third stone from the sun, stone free and 51st anniversary. The subject matter of interpersonal relations was interesting but didn’t quite pique my interest. I liked the elements of rock and psychedelic sounding aspects together.
Definitely one of the guitarists of all time,
Lots of highs here - purple haze and fire are my favorites. Guitar work speaks for itself but the bass and drums are also awesome throughout. I thought it was a bit long, the title track seemed like a natural place to finish and the album would have felt more complete in my opinion.
fine, classic jimi
🤘pretty crazy. i feel bad putting it at 3 stars but it just wasn't my favorite
No. 174 Always a great album to check out. Not one of my favorites but it is good.
Tough to rate. Some really good but some really meh are well.
I appreciate his stamp on music history, but mind smooshes them all together when played all in a row. Sorry, Jimi.
I listened to Are You Experienced expecting some untouchable masterpiece because of the way people talk about it, but honestly I don’t really get the hype. I can respect what Jimi Hendrix did for rock music and it’s obvious he was insanely talented, but as an actual listening experience the album feels pretty inconsistent. The guitar work is great, sure, but after a few tracks the whole psychedelic blues-rock formula starts blending together and a lot of the songs feel more historically important than genuinely exciting to listen to today. That’s kind of my main issue with the album: people seem to confuse influence with quality. I totally understand why this blew people’s minds in 1967, especially the distortion, feedback, and experimental production, but listening to it now in 2026, I don’t think the songwriting is strong enough to justify the “greatest album ever” status it gets. Hendrix the guitarist completely carries Hendrix the songwriter for most of the record, and the vocals and lyrics don’t really add much for me either. There are definitely some iconic moments and I’m not saying it’s bad at all, but personally it’s like a mid album that’s been elevated by decades of mythology. Important? Absolutely. Revolutionary for its era? Probably. But as a front-to-back album experience, I think it’s pretty mid compared to a lot of music that came after it. 6/10
At the risk of being a real dork, the version on Spotify is VERY different to the original release, but it certainly doesn't suffer from the addition of Purple Haze and Hey Joe etc
i think rock from this era can be interesting in how close to its roots it remains. there's lots of blues in this, but also so much funk and soul - had never really noticed how Purple Haze sounds like Otis Redding made sinister. however, the appeal of a genre in its infancy can be kind of limited at the same time, and i don't think this record, almost 60 years later, holds anything close to the kind of power it did upon release. the band is very fine, but the songs don't add up to all that much - occasionally the minimal nature of it all feels primordial, but it's more often underdeveloped. i do like Hendrix-as-bluesman on Hey Joe, and the fairly naked nature of Manic Depression and Love or Confusion, but i struggle to connect with the rest too much, and that's before Foxey Lady, which sounds like the ur-text for hundreds of godawful sex rock songs. i don't know, i think the guitar is more interesting to me as a studio tool, mbv-style, than a live proficiency vehicle, and without a huge amount of interest in Hendrix's playing, i can't find much to hold onto here. it's all very well-performed and mostly pleasant but this just feels a bit stripped of its urgency by lots of subsequent (and even some antecedent) guitar music
this isn’t bad at all but maybe i’m just not in the right mood for guitar shredding. let me be clear, i like it. it’s just not for every day listening in my opinion and i kinda figured that would be my take going into listening to this record. i wish i’d been more pleasantly surprised but that’s ok. life is full of mild disappointments!
Iconic sound although I’m not the biggest fan so I can’t go higher than a 3.
Kinda recognised a few riffs from this but overall I wasn't bowled over
Pas son meilleur, mais ca reste bon 3/5
great 60s sound - great guitar
Hendrix
I only heard about 4-5 initial songs but, I really enjoyed it I've never heard him before and I got to know so much about him, and hey joe and i don't live anymore were my fav tracks out of what I've listened
on a technical level it's great but i was a little bored halfway through
I'm nitpicking here - it gets a little long in the tooth. No denying his talent and this is essential listening, but I get tired in a way that isn't rewarding. Maybe I don't smoke enough weed. Overall, preferred Axis: Bold as Love because it felt more like an album.
May this be Love The wind cries mary These were my favorite songs Easy listening / mostly played while I did chores. Don’t know if I’d listen to the whole thing through again but I would listen to those two songs
not bad
just the kind of chaotic guitar waa waa i like
It's not my favourite kind of music, but I have to say that it's an interesting work, and it's a classic.
Classic. The guitar playing still stands out and has not been replicated.
Cool guitar stuff w overly horny lyrics and delivery
Me gusto, nunca habia escuchado musica asi
6/10 - some good guitar riffs and songs but too long
Everyone needs to be experienced. Though, this is a start. Everything needs to set off from somewhere. Lift with the wind, spread. And leave with the question: Are You Experienced?
Iconica guitarra. me gustó
I enjoyed this album without fully feeling invited or invested into it. Jimi doesn't do the long unnecessary instrumentals that were indicative of the time which I enjoy. And as always that voice, effortlessly powerful
Jeje
A nice opportunity to learn about Jimi Hendrix, especially because this seems to be his most well-known album. A few of the songs were famous enough for me to have already known them without knowing it was Jimi Hendrix. This album was more psychedelic than I was expecting, but there was still a lot of rock 'n' roll. There's a lot of creativity and guitar virtuoso on display. My favorite track was "may this be love." I think this is surely the original mix; the panning sounds rustic, but that also adds to the vintage charm.
Good, short tracks, slightly too long a record. I liked it.
me gustaron algunas canciones
No spoko, takie git
Psychedelic dad rock.
6/10
Good album. Kinda old. There are some songs that i woul listen to again. Not the whole album tho
Fine? Maybe on a different day I would have enjoyed this more, but it was just palatable background sound today.
There’s no denying the classics on here. Not the influence Hendrix had on most, if not all, guitar players coming after him. But do the other songs justify an hour long album? I don’t think so. Groundbreaking for its time, but it hasn’t held up that well. An enjoyable listen, but not a triumphant one
The start of the Seattle sound.
Partially known.
Very chaotic start... Didn't have a lot of melodies in the beginning Has fire in it (that came to my mind when I was listening to Fire :D) The album got better and better with every song Definitely worth knowing! This must have been absolutely mindblowing for people back in the day, because it still is even in 2026.
Purple haze - 4/5 Manic depression - 3/5 Hey Joe - 5/5 Love or confusion - 4/5 May this be love - 4/5 I dont live today - 2/5 The wind cries Mary - 3/5 Fire - 2/5 Third stone from the sun - 1/5 Foxey lady - 4/5 Are you experienced - 3/5 Stone free - 3/5 51st anniversary - 3/5 Highway Chile - 3/5 Can you see me - 3/5 Remember - 3/5 Red house - 2/5
listened to most of it. It was fine
Couldn’t get into this, but was also just in a bad mood
Only 3 becuase this is not my type of music, but listening hendrix for a hole album i undernstand why is the legend what it is. This album is from THe 60´s, and hes making this things, just crazy
Heard Before? Yes, but not in forever. Notes: - starts with a bang, ends with a whimper, mixed results in between. - fiery, complex guitar, acrobatic, sometimes jazzy drums and rock solid bass. a power trio in every sense. - just-right production keeps things raw and wild, even (on "Wind Cries Mary") pretty. - sparse overdubs emphasize just the right things (like the background vocals that add horror to "Hey Joe"). - lyrically he mostly comes off as a teen creep, and his delivery doesn't help. - "Third Stone from the Sun" is the silliest, but by far my favorite - a mostly instrumental psych workout that lets all three players run wild. - where is the songwriting? I went looking and couldn't find anything to grab my attention. Verdict: From my memories, I expected this to be an easy five star. But this time around I couldn't find a single song that really did it for me. Listen Again? Nope, although it was at least interesting to revisit.
I can appreciate Hendrix, but I struggle to enjoy it. Some cool bits.
Listened on 2/23/26
Not a huge fan of blues but this album is not bad, very influential in guitar
I listened to the deluxe version for this review. This is an album I wish I liked more than I actually do. There's some great guitar work on this album, but also a lot of mid tracks; not bad, but not interesting. I liked the additional bonus tracks better than most of the original tracks. The production quality isn't very good either. I'm not a huge stickler about audio quality, but it's noticeably bad on this album.
Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary and Are You Experienced are incredible. I am way more into slow, melodic Jimi than Purple Haze/Fire fuzzbox Jimi.
2026.02.11
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Some classics and some okay. 3.5
Good
Good stuff from Jimi, i still rather Bold as Love. Its a bit too rough and unpolished (even for them).
Overall: I’ll give this an album a 6/10. Love the percussion and the strings however, most of it’s just not resonating with me. Purple Haze: Exciting intro. Manic Depression: Guitar is working overtime. Hey Joe: I’ll be adding this to my retro playlist. I enjoyed this one frfr. Love or Confusion: Very trippy. I don’t think I’d play this song on my own, but it’s not bad. May This Be Love: I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I’ll be adding this to my Love, Love, Love playlist. I Don’t Live Today: Not horrible, just not my cup of joe. The Wind Cries Mary: Same as last. Fire: I’m a fan. The percussion is really selling it for me. Third Stone From the Sun: Too long for something I’m not that into. Wouldn’t listen to 7 minutes of this. Not bad, just not my cup of joe. Foxey Lady: A bit more enjoyable than the last. Are You Experienced: Guitar working overtime again. Stone Free: The music is just not resonating with me. Again! Not bad, just not for me. 51st Anniversary: This one is a bit more of a vibe. Highway Chile: Not resonating. Can You See Me: Same as last. Remember: Kinda like this one. Red House: Blues vibes for sure. Kind of a fan.
It's not that long but it feels like hours. I feel very mixed. It's clearly influential and changed a lot of contemporary music, but does that make it good? It's undoubtedly very self indulgent and I find it a hard slog, rather than an enjoyable romp. The standout tracks are good and it is well produced, I just didn't enjoy it.
Fuzzy and expressive and stylish, but ultimately doesn't totally click with me. I think it's a total jam but maybe to unstructured for me to love listening the whole way through, who knows 5.9/10
Undeniable legend, and I like this. But whole album a bit much
decent Jimmey
3/5 Colton (Possibly 3.5)
I like Jimi Hendrix a lot, but this isn’t the particular album I would reach for.
Eh, not that
7/10
Good I guess? 3.5 or 4
Listened to this at a coffee shop while I did some prep exams and it was pretty chill. Jimi can play a guitar, who knew?? He can sing too, great! Honestly, it was fine. Was nice jam music in the background, my face remained unmelted.
I thought it was pretty good and I heard some familiar songs in there. It just wasn’t for me though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it was interesting in a good way, not the type of thing i would listen to normally but i enjoyed it
Listened on the airplane home from Florida. Wasn’t too excited when it came up on the generator. I’ve heard many of these songs a million times, but I’m not really a fan. I respect the talent. Very much. He did things on the guitar that were very original. On this listen I found the drumming distracting in a negative way. My main thought is that this is a hell of a debut album. Very sure of themselves. But other than a couple of songs I am still not much of a fan.
never heard before -purple haze good start!! -i like hey joe -fire is rlly good! -remember is good too overall pretty good but not my thing 3.5/5
3.5⭐️/5 [01.13.2026]
Know this one already. Good album with some great tracks
A lot of recognisable songs on this. I may rate higher with further listens but maybe not. Just not my type of music
fire
Cool
no songs particularly stood out to me but i enjoyed the music
enjoyed this album even tho it’s not my style. obviously amazing guitar playing which I have never heard before. -favourite tracks: HEY HOE and LOVE OR CONFUSION
Excelente álbum.
It's OK, not particularly enjoyable to me.
it was alright. i liked the beginning and then i started to get bored around foxy lady. i can picture myself listening to this in the background while i do something else but otherwise probably not.
6/10
This is how B.B. King would sound with overdrive, strip back the effects and you have B.B. King with a fender and acid.
oui pourquoi pas en musique de fond
A lot of the guitar solos were really interesting and had recognisable melodies so I can tell it's inspired other musicians since. There were some songs I enjoyed and would listen to again like Hello Joe but there's other songs that I didn't care much for either way so I'd only listen to as background music. Some of the instruments sounded a bit disjointed at time, like they weren't playing the same sound. But I guess it might just be the style of rock/psychedelic rock. The vocals were always good and I liked the drums too. I didn't find the lyrics super relatable so that might be why I was less interested in it. Overall I can tell why it was one of the albums that inspired the genre but not really for me but I might have to register again
The instrumentals were great and I mostly enjoyed my time listening to this album. However it kind of became a blur and many songs sounded very similar to each other for me. It is not really my style of vocals.
3/5 Objectively good album, but it felt like a lot of the songs sounded very same-sy and there weren't many standouts to me personally. I wouldn't listen to much of this by myself. I've also just heard better from Jimi. So far the 60s have been a hit and miss for me.
I knew their famous songs but I’ve never went more into their discography. Not my style but can’t deny it’s a real talent.
I think this album is pretty chaotic. I can understand why people found it "revolutionising" in the late 60s, but a lot of the tracks in the middle are very "chaotic" with the guitar distortions. My favourite is the title track "bold as love", and there's a couple of nice ones, but overally nothing wowed me.
Was ok
12/9/25 - didnt fininshed but i have 100% heard this album in full before fav track: fire
Solid album! Transported me back to the 60s in a great way. Impressive that he had that much talent on the guitar at such a young age. I’d probably rate it a 3.5. Some of the songs were a tad underwhelming but others were 👌
i can't tell if i preferred this one to the other one i listened, loved the album cover
I was surprised I didn't enjoy this as much as I'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it - definitely above "neutral" feelings toward it and found myself bobbing along throughout it, but not much I'd return to or felt was memorable right off the bat without having heard the tracks many times before. My favorites were "Stone Free" and "Hey Joe."
Some great songs on this album, can't deny the guitar skill, and musical genius, but all round it didn't exactly blow me away.
Genius etc. but unfortunately not my thing really (60s psychedelic rock). Loved the lil documentary at the end - all these extremely British white dudes and Jimi. Cultural hybridity!
Mary
Amazing guitarist and singer, probably the closest thing to blues I can enjoy.
Fun :)
Solid album with some great songs and mesmerising guitar playing. Felt it did drag on a little in parts but that's a 'me' problem. 3.5/5
Another 3 and a half
Solid Album. Classic Guitar Riffing
I really struggle with Jimi Hendrix. He's a legend, imitated and covered often. He had a brief time in the spotlight, and his repertoire isn't large. He incorporated so many different sounds and view points into something new here. I recognized the outsized impact of his contributions on so many parts of the global culture. But I don't enjoy listening to it. I'm never like "Oh I want to listen to Hendrix today." So it's hard to rate that. 3 stars
Inspiring Album, great songs just not my favorite!
scuse me while i kiss this guy
Purple Haze, Manic Depression, and Hey Joe are an incredible opening salvo but it falters as it gets into the aimless jams of the following three tracks. Fire and The Wind Cries Mary never did anything for me. Third Stone from the Sun doesn't get weird enough to warrant its length. I only review the albums as they were originally released, so I don't count songs from later reissues, but Stone Free and Highway Chile would have been nice early additions.
Technically sound, but not that interesting, foundational as it may be.
The US version is better in virtue of the extra single power. I can only imagine how mind blowing it would have sounded in 1967. It doesn’t hit me quite as hard as it should just because this particular mix of blues rock / psych is not that exciting to my ears, which means the album tracks sometimes are missing that magic. But man - he can play, and he is nothing short of an icon.
I appreciate the mastery but I find this style of music dated and just meh. Wouldn't put this album on just to listen to / enjoy it. Feels like homework.
Legend!!
problably one of the most influencial rock albuns of all time.
While listening to this album, I realized what a traditionalist I am. I liked the songs, but I would be happy not to have to listen to all the extraneous material which was included, an example of this type of musical format was "Third Stone From The Sun" and even "Purple Haze" had some of it. Of all the songs, my favorite was "The Wind Cries Mary".
Lots of familiar songs here but I can't say that I love any of them, sadly. Guitar and vocals are strong throughout, or course, with the occasional dip into harsh experimental noises, especially noticeable to me on "Purple Haze" which I'd been enjoying until those last 50 or so seconds. Best: "The Wind Cries Mary" Worst: "I Don't Live Today"
good. not much to my taste. liked 2 songs
Some cool songs but can't handle too much Psychedelic Rock
I know that I’m supposed to love this but I only kind of just like it.
Hard to dislike this. Some parts were pretty slow but it largely cohered. 3.5
I can see this is like the best at what it is, the problem is I still don't really like what it is.
Good album, no takeaways but some big hits here
As a fun bit of trivia, they should consider listing the drugs the artists were using when they made the albums.
I wasn't able to find the original UK version, but the US version is pretty solid (it has all the early singles, after all.) Over the course of days relistening, I really think this album has a bit more filler than I expected. The main hits are good but most other tracks fade into the background. 3/5
#159/1001. I am experienced enough to know that when you put a U.K release and a U.S. release together with some random singles and end up with 17 songs the concept of an "album" is totally shattered, exploding in all directions. If there would be one exception one might assume it to be Jimi Hendrix, but no. Most of these are classic songs, but I think I already sold my Hendrix albums in the late 90s and haven't really missed them. But every now and then as a DJ I play "puita kaminaan", which is an excellent Finnish cover version of Fire by Manifest. Surprises Finnish and international audiences alike. The final verdict is 3, which is kind of a curse — a 1 star or 5 star review both have an attitude, but a 3 is just something average, which for me this now is.
- Amazing guitar work, obviously, but I find it a little overbearing at times, as it kind of makes me feel anxious. - Melodic and memorable songs/a lot of great hits on here.
Loved some of it, and somenot felt like I was in the midst of a purple haze bad trip
A virtuoso; yet it gets kind of long-winded.
All really good but did find myself having to play Little Wing midway through. Lots of quality but didn’t find myself starstruck.
I have no doubt that Jimi Hendrix was an incredible musician. But for whatever reason, even as a guitarist myself, his music doesn’t do an awful lot for me. I think I would enjoy this more if I was tripping balls in the 60s, but alas, I am not.
Overated
A bit hard to divorce this one from the Classic Rock guys that have taken this album. But, all in all it still rips. I've heard most of these songs before, but not in the sequence of the album. Starts off strong, and then gets a little listless towards the end. Crazy that this was just a trip, because the mix is really full. Glad I listened to it, but I don't know if I will again. Certainly tracks for sure.
so many classics on this one. Not an everyday album for me, but great
Nice guitar use, pretty decent
Had never listened to to the whole Album. Made me wonder how much was jammed/improved and how much was produced. Also this album had to be played loud. Listening to it quietly doesn’t do it justice in any way
Greatest as always
A few good songs does not make a good album
I think it's ok, has a lot of cool guitar riffs but is misogynistic
First Hendrix! Never really heard a full album of his before and ig what struck me the most about the music is how bluesy it is and also how much more up tempo it is compared to other music I've heard from this era. It's a fun listen though I might have to go thru it again with the US tracklist than the UK one.
I’ve always like the idea or aesthetic of acid rock but come to think of it I’ve never really listened to it. I particularly liked the foxy track. I think if I were to listen to this album 50 times I’d absolutely love it.
Unconventional
Nice, aber muss nochmal öfter gehört werden. Gitarre ist schon echt geilo
Dad rock
Inoffensive but also I would never chose to listen to this Not bad Not good
Some classics. Felt the album dragged a bit
classic “why do I want to hear anything other than the hits”
Half the non-radio songs are his best songs and the other half are his worst songs.
It’s very good and very influential but I prefer electric ladyland
Definitely lulled for me in a few spots. Another classic rock first, probably more historic than re-listenable.
Meh
Decent. Enjoyed it more than I thought
it was clearly an incredible album, but just not my vibe.
I feel like I should love Hendrix. I enjoy early evolutions of the heavy rock genre and most psychedelic rock. I'm a sucker for a good guitar solo. But I think it's the production quality that kills it for me. His sound feels like it was recorded in a basketball gym. Purple haze is a fitting name for that song sonically because the it sounds very hazy.
I enjoyed some of the more jazzy sections of this one. Other than that though this album was one of his more weaker ones so far. Still not bad
Jimi, a legend. This must have been a revolutionary sound for 67. Personally, it was just fine for me. I guess it's just not my jam
would the people be mad at me if i said this was the weakest Jimi Hendrix Experience album? probably. still rips tho deserves to be one of the 1001? for sure
Cool album!

***An ok album, too much squelching guitar for me.
Groovy, moovy and I liked it.
Devo did Are You Experienced? better, sorry Jimi. The album was fine, I didn't hate listening to it. Best song: Highway Chile Notable(s): Are You Experienced? (mostly cause I like the Devo version)
Classic album and obviously great playing but I forgot how much filler is on this album. If this could be cut down to 40 min or less it would be a five for me. Rhythm section is unsung and amazing.
I like his other albums better.
This was cool. You know what you are getting with a Jimmi album. He's not my favorite but the jams are still good.
Good record, enjoyed my first listen and I think some strong highlights here. This record really sounds like the future - can see how it would be mind melting in 1967. I adore next two and I think this is maybe weaker - has some pop tracks that Axis does better (Jimi sounds much more confident and his songwriting is stronger), the psych freakouts on Electric Ladyland just hit harder for me as well (no Voodoo Chile or 1983 on this) Strong 3 - but reserving right to return and give higher later.
The rating on this site puts this as one of the greatest albums of all time, and I just really don't see it. Sure, it's good, but one of the all-time best? It might be a bit obvious to say that I really love the guitar in this, but I do. I love how down and dirty it gets at times. There are some monster tracks in here - particularly Hey Joe, but Purple Haze and Foxey Lady are excellent too. I doubt I'll really revisit outside of those tracks I liked the most really. 3.5 rounded down.
A bit too hard rock for my tastes. Credit for maintaining the melody, despite the distortion.
it’s pretty good but prob not going to become my new go-to and that’s okay
No denying he’s a world-class guitarist and this is impressive for a debut album but I had trouble connecting with the music and overall didn’t really enjoy it
Doesn't stand out compared to their previous work. Not horrible, but nothing memorable either
I'm sure it was a revolution when it came out. I absolutely appreciate that, but most of the better songs have been overplayed.
Some decent rock tunes here, undercut by the swampy production and a drummer who can't calm down.
Quite enjoyable, a little self indulgent in places
vibey komadi za poslusat u ozadju (usaj tko sm js, nism bla locked in) itak insane solaze kr je pac jimi hendrix ma nikol nism bla nek pretiran fan.
I know he's a legend but even if I love some songs, the overall album is not something I would constantly go back to
Hendrix is an amazing guitarist, but it's all just very dated.
I really thought Jimi Hendrix was basically the same as Black Sabbath so I was surprised by this one. I know one of the songs because of a Fort Minor feature haha! Overall not my style, but I don’t hate it.
interesting and a bunch of wawawa guitar ★★★
I feel extraordinarily over-exposed to this album. Every classic rock station of my life has played purple haze multiple times a day. I can hear it ringing out on the construction site now. Later in the album, when the deeper cuts stack up, I find myself reminded that it is truly psychedelic blues. What a cool genre that we didn’t know we needed.
These guys are obnoxiously high. That drives the whole album, how drugged out they are. Sometimes it leads to greatness, other times it leads to "oh..." A totally fine album, just maybe a little too druggy for me.
nogle gode sange bare virkelig dårligt indspilelt
Off the cuff remark: I've never been a fan of overblown guitar solos but actually most of these aren't, to my surprise honestly. Obviously some mermorable, and truly great, guitar riffs. Standout Track: Purple Haze Revisit?: Would be happy to, but not going to rush back
great background music, even though not necessarily my style. I do love the 'hey, joe' one!
Hmmm weiß ich nicht digga. Streckenweise gut aber doch etwas monoton. Aber perfekt für den Hintergrund
Groovy, but lenghty.
Doesn't do anything for me. Just an hour of noodling around on the guitar.
Sorry Jimi.
Great ability on show here. A very consistent album
Good but not necessarily my cup of tea. I can understand the hype around it for the time period though. Really cool guitar solos and riffs in there. Really liked and would regularly listen to only 3/17 songs though. 3/5
Obviously great guitar playing and one of the classics. But…. it’s just not my favorite.
The album cover is really great. The music is okay. Would give it 3.5 stars, but def not 4. It didn't hit me as hard, but I would put it on for a casual Sunday.
I really enjoy Purple Haze, Hey Joe and Foxey Lady, but the rest oof the songs were unfamiliar. The whole album sounded nice, enjoyed having it in the background.
A couple classics but overall I’d say pretty overrated
Purple Haze - 5/4 Manic Depression - 2/4 Hey Joe - 4/4 Love or Confusion - 2/4 May this be love - 3/4 I don’t live today - 2/4 The wind cries mary - 4/4 fire - 3/4 third stone from the sun - 2/4 foxey lady - 2 are you experienced- 1 stone free - 3 51st anniversary- 3 highway chile - 3 can you see me - 3 remember - 3 red house - 4
I thought this was fine. Glad I heard it but I doubt it'll be something I come back to.
I mean it was an experience. Started a bit odd tbh but I got into it.
Purple haze
The guitar on this album goes crazy. I'm not too into the style of rock in this album, but there were definitely some tracks I was really into
Okay, he’s amazing, but I don’t really like him / love him 🤷🏻♂️
A fantastic album that I will never seek out.
Along with The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience is another of the universally praised classic rock bands the appeal of whom I just don't get. I'm not denying Hendrix's skill or his influence, but, like, there's so much music right now that is just miles ahead of this, no? This album is good. The riffs are solid (despite the outdated production, but that's not really the band's fault), I like his voice, and the songwriting is catchy enough... But the amount of praise this album gets feels so inconsistent with it's actual quality, in my opinion. Maybe it was groundbreaking at the time, but I don't think it held up well. I write this after the third listen, and there certainly have been times when it took me even more to "get" an album, but I just don't see what to "get" here. It's solid. Don't understand the praise. 7/10
Aight
tip: listen to it at 3AM while severally sleep deprived to get the full trippy experience without having to use drugs 3/5
Nao gostei
Solid. The guitar is just, so good.
already got this one?
some songs hit hard but overall i didn't really vibe with it :(
6/10
This was fine. Never been a big fan of his music, but definitely appreciate his talent on the guitar.
Probably more influential than "great", still crazy for 1967
Pretty decent, surprised on a few songs. Hey Joe was pretty dope. Some filler but overall I thought it was okay 6.2/10
