Just don’t get it

The only thing that makes any sense to me is that the demand for this drivel didn't just grow organically, but was created artificially by moguls, and for nefarious purposes.

+1 star since it's sentimental. Sorry. I don't like rap.

2010s rap wasn't it. The whole genre was hot garbage and this is no different. Nostalgic? Sure. Good music that I'd ever listen to of my own free will? Nope.

Not my taste at all, but you can’t please all the people all the time.

Please stop! My YT Music algorithm is all fucked up because of this crap!

Not a fan

Not my thing

Absolutely awful. Utterly lacking in any musical ability whatsoever.

My main issue with this album is the relentless repetition of explicit profanity, it often feels like little more than swearing layered over a drum beat. The juvenile, shock-value lyrics may actually explain its commercial success, giving immature listeners something crude to snicker at. If you removed or censored all the explicit content, the record would undoubtedly be shorter, though hardly improved in quality.

My early 20’s kids think he’s great, I find him dull and uninteresting

Not a huge fan of rap, can't say I am now. I found myself groaning and turning it down constantly just wanting it to be over. Kendrick can go fuck the world with his Eiffel tower dick.

Sorry, I can't stand hip hop...

not my style

As far as music goes, rap sucks. Yes, he might be a good lyricist but this should be in the beat poetry category, not the music category.

All due respect to Mr. Lamar but I am a white lady from the suburbs.

Ikke min greie i det hele tatt.

This is absolute shit. I can’t even get over the 30-second mark of any song here.

This killed my vibe. ★

Not a fan of it

Before all the Drake stuff and the Superbowl happened, the sum total of my knowledge of Kendrick Lamar was “All the Stars” featuring SZA (a song I really like). I also quite liked his Drake “diss” track, so I was intrigued enough about this. I hated every (incredibly long) minute of it. If I had an option for half stars it would get 1.5. Seeing as I don’t, and I am not feeling at all a generous god, it’s getting 1*.

totally not my vibe, I did not like the lyrics nor the backtrack music, it doesn't transmit anything to me

I don’t dislike the genre. I don’t dislike the style. I really, really disliked the execution. Trite.

Not for me

American rap/hiphop - boring for me

I'm not into the filler bits on albums.

This album is shit on all levels. And that’s being kind.

Boring

En serio. En mere. For mange lydbidder og for lidt musik. Skits, kaldes det åbenbart.

Boring!!! Not very moving at all.

I'm starting to say no a lot more on here. I DO NOT need to hear this today or any other day.

Not my style oh hip-hop

Stopped listening at Backseat Freestyle. Hope I'm done with all the fucking rap shit on this list soon.

Not my thing at all...

I enjoyed To Pimp a Butterfly more, even though I didn't really like that record either. It just doesn't do it for me.

Cuando un disco tiene las siguientes líneas "So, I can fuck the world for 72 hours Goddamn, I got bitches (okay), damn, I got bitches (okay) Damn I got bitches, wifey, girlfriend and mistress" para mi es como un 1 seguro.

Awful 😖 I thought I didn't like rap music, now I realise I hate it. Language dreadful (and more importantly totally unnecessary) Best track: Obviously the shortest one.

Firstly, this album is no longer in the 1001 list, having only had a short lived entry, so I didn’t need to listen to it before I die. Secondly, I did give it several plays as I know there should be something in this that I should like. However, no joy at all. Public Enemy, NWA, Wu-Tang Clan, five stars from me. Not even Dr. Dre’s involvement in closer Compton provides any real lift here.

the beat is the exact same throughout the album and the phone skits were jarring and placed oddly

No es mi estilo

Not my style. Very long and struggled to make it through.

I'd be lying if I said I was up to speed on modern hip-hop, or if I claimed to be an expert. Kendrick Lamar seems to be a name that keeps coming up though, and all I have heard (that I am aware of) until now is They Not Like Us. So, straight off the bar, as much as I love De La Soul, I've never really quite understood the concept of the hip-hop "skit", and neither am I in any way religious - so the "praise the lord" answerphone shit going on here is off-putting from the get-go. Obviously, this is lyrically dense (even compared to other rap albums) so I am not going to have time to absorb everything on that front. That said, apart from a bit of soul-searching and self-reflection, we we seem to be in familiar gangsta territory... so my take on Good Kid M.a.a.d City kind of stands or falls on the quality of the music, and to be honest I was more than a little disappointed. It's fairly sparse and uninspiring for the most part, only a handful of tracks struck me as being built around an interesting sample or beat - musically, the bulk of it sounded more like late 90s R 'n' B than what I would call hip-hop. After a couple of listens, I'm still not really sure what all the fuss is about to be honest.

Did not enjoy

Not really for me

Man Down. That song was cool. I didn't listen to the rest. I think he is overrated, though. Feeling like it's an emperor's new clothes scenario. Obvious talent. But how good is it really? It's no Eminem.

Hip Hop not for me

Hip Hop, 32eme album => 1/5

Not for me

Nem me dei ao trabalho de ouvir. Isto é puro lixo!

I did use a private spotify session for this one. Listening to these lyrics and knowing he played the SuperBowl halftime show reminds is undeniable proof I am out of touch with things. Between the frequent use of the N word and misogyny I get distracted from the music.

Wat een slecht albums. Kansloos teksten of kanslozen beats

Not my jam at all. Nasal mumbling.

Nope…got halfway through and that was enough. Decent beats but didn’t connect at all.

This is #day267 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... this is my first time ever listening to Kendrick Lamar. Now, I should clarify: I do love some hip-hop now and then, especially the golden age stuff. I'm also a huge Eminem fan (well, early Eminem, to be more precise, the kind I listened to up until I was about 15). Lately, I've been digging into his newer work, and I absolutely love The Death of Slim Shady (even have it on a UK limited edition cassette), but that's another story. Aside from Em, I've listened to some 50 Cent, some Dre, some Jay-Z... those guys, you know. But that was back in the early '00s. I've never really stepped into the more modern hip-hop territory, especially the 2010s or 2020s. I was into different music back then. So listening to good kid, m.A.A.d city felt... disorienting. It's just too contemporary for my ear, I guess. The production, the flow... all feels distant from the style I connect with. I'm not sure I get the hype. Closer to the middle of Money Trees, I didn't feel like continuing, so I quit. This is a 1 out of 5 for me. Looking forward to #day268.

1 - 100% basura.

I hate this.... A lot. Fck this asshole that think it's a god or some shit.

uh... what is this, no likey

Brings back memories of visiting the dead homie in 2014-2016 who just smoked weed while he told stories about his dead girlfriend and listened to Zedd. RIP. Absolutely hate Kendrick's voice, flow, lyrical choices, and beats. Motherfucker sounds like the noise a dog makes when you accidentally step on its tail. This one's biased, but no thanks.

Nuh! Still don't like rap.

Please, don't make me listen to rap again. There's nothing wrong with it, I see its value as an art form. But I just cannot seem to find the appreciation for it as a listener. That said, the rap songs I have actively listened to in the past and enjoyed were all Kendrick's, so I do really like him as an artist. I just... yeah. This was not the album for me.

Nao gostei

Not for me!

Fuck no

sigh! more terrible lyrics with multiple mutha f'rs etc Utter drivel

hated it, not my thing

Did not like. Don't understand this kind of music at all.

Awful. Have never understood the hype this man lives off.

Listening to the version of this with the profanity blanked, and wow that’s a lot of swearing. Doesn’t add anything to the music, just winds me up. Got to track 5 and thought right, I don’t need another 8 tracks of this.

Gangsta Rap, yo

Just no. I tried but I'm pulling out one of my infrequent not-gonna-listen cards for this one.

nah bro kendrick is mid

Not my jam

I liked the beats and background better than his voice. Idk there’s just something missing from the melodies for me? Like it’s almost there but missing a spark to be good for me? Hm. It sounds like there’s some poetry to it, which is nice. I wanted to like it. Ok I like money trees ok but it still feels like it’s missing something. I’m updating this as I listen. MAAD city has great beats and I know it’s deep but… his voice takes me out of it my dudes. But also I don’t specifically hate his voice, it just doesn’t go together for me. I like MC Eiht’s voice tho.

Couldn't find much to enjoy here.

Just another ex-1001 album!™ http://1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie.wikidot.com/album-artists-a-z-ex After heavily disliking "To Pimp A Butterfly", much to the shock of one of my mates, I said I'd give Kendrick Lamar another try. The first half of the album felt like "Blah, blah, bitches, bitches. Where my motherfuckin' dominoes at?" Urgh! The second half got better, but still felt mostly drug-fuelled gangster cliche tosh. I tried, but nope!

Wow, I’m surprised at how uninspired and dull this hip-hop album is. It actually takes a certain kind of effort to miss the mark this badly. Definitely one of the worst albums I’ve heard in a while.

I don't get it. This is popular enough to be the superbowl halftime show act? Baffling. I didn't like the first album we had to listen to by him, and I like this one less. It's just so boring. The last song on the album (Compton with Dr. Dre) had a little bit of life to it, but I had already made up my mind that I hated this album by then.

I listen to albums for the music, so rap is not my bag, baby. Most of the album is people talking or reciting poetry. The lyrics may reflect the artist’s background, and there’s a lot of violence. What music there is is very basic and repetitive.

I like some of the bass lines but otherwise I cannot relate to this. I find many of the lyrics offensive and the skits lame. Not for me.

No me gusta este género, absolutamente

I can’t with this

Nonsense

*no music, mostly noise and rap

Ok album for a person who doesn't listen to or like rap. Few songs I had to skip cause they were too damn long for my taste.

I liked the flow, the lyrics however were a huge letdown. The artist is probably looking for street cred, but if that means acting like a 14-year old and treating women like crap, I'm done.

This should be on the list of 1001 albums not to listen too. He says niggahs and bitches so many f’n times… geez!

Gave it a go but a real struggle.

I don’t understand !

my first KL album to listen to. (and most likely my last)

Repetido

As weak as the other Lamar album I was recommended. Guess I'm not a fan

No thanks

Skipped the first song 30 seconds in. Subtracted a star for every time I heard "bitch" in the second song and quickly ran out of stars. I couldn't listen to the rest.

Each to their own and all that, but I just cant listen to shite like this.

overrated big time, one of these tracks has been streamed 1.5 billion times!! I know this probably makes me wrong but there's no accounting for taste. poor mans Kanye

Ugh, hip hop is just so bad. I honestly don't get how people listen to this and think that it is somehow meaningful or profound. The lyrics literally sound like something that a stupid, horny 7th grader would come up with by trying to write things that he thought the older kids would think were cool. I just can't get on with it. I mean if you like this, more power to you, but listen to the words and maybe reconsider. I get so tired of this entire genre being so degrading to women and self-aggrandizing. Please stop it. And as if the lyrics weren't bad enough, why the hell is this just absolutely laden with autotune? It really is like he stepped back and asked himself, "this already terrible, how can we make it even worse?" I'm just at a total loss as to how this kind of music is so popular. 1/5

Killed my vibe.

👎 Hmm nope, feels musically dull and lyrically offensive. Never a big fan of rap to start so this was always going to be an uphill battle

The music's fine. The misogyny and violent lyrics are not.

Just awful

I hate this bloke and his misogynistic, foul-mouthed rants.

I can confidently say I don't like Lamar's style, his influence is a big part of why I dislike modern rap probably

Not bothering to listen to this

Could not finish it. Not for me. Not enjoyable to the ears. I skipped along trying to find at least a beat I could enjoy but nope.

Gotta say , in this case, I hated every second of it. Appreciate it's street language..no different to cockney in it's own way. But despite the reviews and awards he got, to me, to use his own language..." it's arrogant, macho, socially selfish, nigga shit".thank god that's over.

Misogynistic and embarrassing to the genre 1.3

I still don't like hip hop. 1/5

My history for this exercise shows I’ve listened to 37 different albums across the hip hop genre and its different permutations…and I’m not a fan. After listening to this album, I’m still not a fan.

Just really, really not my thing. Felt slapdash and repetitive.

I refer to yesterday’s review! 1/5 30/5/24

Rap, 2012 -> 1

Really not for me. The background music is fine, but not into this type of rapping and explicit lyrics do nothing for me

I couldn’t finish listening to this record as there were too many n words f words p words

I guess I’m just old but I can’t stand the offensive, disgusting language. I had to turn this off, like it turned my stomach. I hope his later albums are better because I don’t know how the person who wrote this won so many awards. And for the love of his, can we please stop calling women hitches? It’s really exhausting to constantly hear your gender treated like garbage in media.

Day114 - jesus i can’t even put into words how much i hate this whole album

couldn't find anything worth bothering about, have definitely heard much better hip hop records in my opinion

Rap - HipHop - I'm waiting for music in my wavelength

No. Just know with this juvenile nonsense. Is this really what this project is about? Do I really need to listen to this man child rap about his sexual conquests? I couldn't care less and I can't believe I had to listen to this crap.

Bad man, h.o.r.r.i.b.l.e album. 1/5

Somebody get this guy his mofo Domino's, not for me

I have reached peak hip hop... Plus I don't like the way he pronounces bitch. This really isn't my cup of tea, nice beats but just pretentious waffle.

Did not like it

There is very little hip hop I enjoy - not none, but this doesn’t qualify. Just sounds like noise to me and is actually really stressful to listen to. Can’t understand a word, no tune… though I am aware he is highly respected in the field.

Uh, nope.

Run*DMC is Rap. This is just Crap.

Struggle bus

So that’s what Kendrick Lamar sounds like. He sucks.

Never got into kendrirck lamar and that proably a good thing

Not my jam.

I still don’t like it

I listened to two tracks and took it off. I’m not a fan of this genre but was willing to give it a shot, unfortunately (perhaps fortunately) I can’t relate to these lyrics at all. Too negative and filthy for me

Didn't listen sorry

This album says the n word more than an African census taker.

so painful

This is the perfect background music when you are working in a very noisy industrial environment.

Keine Punkte! Schrott!

I'll be the first to admit my own ignorance. But all I hear is robots and vulgarity.

trying to sound old skool but its just bad

I didn’t expect to like this album (I’m definitely not the target listener). But to me, the point of listening to these albums is to hear new things and maybe find some things I like. So I tried to keep an open mind. But, it’s just not for me.

Didn’t like.

Not for me. I just cannot get into rap or hip-hop

Explizit

Rap is not my thing

Oh dear …

Stemmningin er til staðar. Töffaraskapur og tilgerðin líka. Mér finnst svona tónlist bara svo leiðinleg. Ég er gamaldags.

Not to my taste.

This wasn't good, but it was marginally better than the other rap albums on this list. I appreciated that it didn't have and moans and sex sounds. Still never want to hear this again. 1/5

Absolutely amazing, this album changed my life.

Not very good kinda messy

Rap.. didn't like

Not my kind of music

This is my second Lamar album after To Pimp A Butterfly, and I liked To Pimp more.

Not a fan.

No thanks.

menudo mierdón colega, no he aguantado ni una canción entera

I don't really like Rap music so this is a no for me.

Uninteresting and missing the endless opportunities that can be explored through music. Even if lyrics and meaning alone could carry a song, none of it is particularly engaging.

Obscene, not my vibe, I suppose I respect the legend and his hardship. This is art for its potency and relevance to the inner city American. But man, this ain't pretty.

Dreadful.

This isn't music

Man chats about his crimes and hating women

Not for me.

Snart är råttet mågat. Fixar inte sån här skit.

Horrible. Zero stars.

Not for me

Not a rap fa

Just cant get into it.

I have heard that the lyrics on this album are really great. That's very cool but it's just not what I'm here for. I didn't find the beats to be terribly interesting, and I didn't find much to listen to in the music, so there really wasn't much for me on this album.

Not my thing

Not for me.

Sorry it just wasn't for me.

Meh... Don't understand what makes it great. I only liked about 1 or 2 songs. And even those we just okay. Not mind blowing. The phone/conversation bits are a bit too much and they're all over the album. I couldn't find enough hooks on this album. Highlights: - Backseat Freestyle -Swimming Pools (Drank) -Compton

I have never listened to anything from Kendrick Lamar before. I know he's famous and admired, but I don't have time for the content of his work. No thanks.

Not for me.

Nah not my jam. This level of casually explicit lyricism and the style is not for me.

Not even sure what that was. Terrible!

Bad Rap

Still not feeling it.

Rap que no me gusta nada
