Reviews (page 13 of 15)

I've heard the hits on the album so much Ibdon't really want to listen to them again. And, nothing else on this album stuck out enough for me to want to listen to it again, either. 3/5

I'm going to say that I like this album. I am really only remembering about three songs, but I remember this album flowing together well. I still like it. It's more guitar-heavy than I recall. I enjoy the slower songs more than the more rock ones. But it still sounds great.

Very enjoyable. Lots of good melodies and Beatlisms

I was familiar with several of the songs. Although the lead singer has a whiny voice. It is better than a 3 not really a 4. I will round down.

Its okay

Nicht schlecht. Fühle es nicht ganz.

eh. not a big fan of the Gallaghers as people, not the biggest fan of their music either – it sounds derivative and boring a lot of the time, but you cannot deny they produced a few generation-shaping bangers and had a great influence on the music scene. would give it 3.5 stars but sadly that's not possible so I'm gonna round it down for the crime of producing a strong contender for the most annoying song of the last decades

Listening to this album confirmed my opinion of Oasis: It's good, but a little goes a long way.

Fuck the Gallaghers, all my homies hate the Gallaghers (the music is mostly good)

It’s good a good album at times, and too many songs sound like the worst imitation of a whiny John Lennon.

I forgot about this band. I little too grungy for me at this time in my life but it was nice to revisit it.

I had a baby in 1994, and so I missed out on a lot of music in the mid to late nineties. I recently watched the Oasis documentary and enjoyed it, so to have this as the first album recommended by the generator seems like a good sign. I enjoyed this album. It has a mix of songs I’ve heard, and songs I’ve never heard before. I like the fuzzy rock and roll guitars, and the “sound” of Oasis. Great recommendation, thanks! Since it’s the first album I’m listening to, I’m going to rate it a 3, leaving ratings room for other outstanding albums to come.

The singing Gallagher's voice gets really grating after awhile. There are 5 great Beatles ripoff songs on here and the rest are OK Wings ripoff songs.

-love how full the instrumentals are, lots of little instruments, like bells, symbols, and even the vibraslap are used to make tracks feel complete -lyrics are kinda mid, nothing to write home about but certainly not terrible. they just seem to lack the punch that the instrumentals deliver -love the melodies, certainly akin to the Beatles -Gallagher's voice is fine, fits with the tracks for the most part, but his vocals aren't exciting as the background vocals which are mixed and layered well -they love repeating lyrics, especially in track outros, and while i do think its effective in making the songs trancey it can become annoying when listening to the album as a whole. the repetition starts to lose its impact -like the Swamp Song Interludes, i think they fit well on the album -fav tracks: Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger -least fav track: Some Might Say

Album Nr. 20 Schwacher Anfang, steigert sich jedoch. Dennoch reicht es für meinen Geschmack nur für das Mittelfeld.

Brit pop isn’t a genre I can say I know anything about. My knowledge is very limited, and I know very few groups who led the huge push the genre got in the 90’s. But I’ve heard of Oasis. And I know just how big this band really was in their heyday. But I didn’t set my expectations at anything too high, simply because I didn’t know what to expect. The first thing I noticed was how much heavier it is. This album is loud. Like really loud. I don’t know if that’s a characteristic of the genre, or just the way they produced this, but it sounds a little muddy sometimes. But I can’t deny that Noel and Liam are extraordinary song writers. They know how to make an absolutely killer hook and chorus, and wrote some seriously infectious melodies on this record specifically. And the musicianship is definitely there. I just felt like certain songs were lacking in the same juice that made the highlights so good. Of course I have to talk about the big song. First off, I am very aware of the reputation Wonderwall has garnered for itself. Is it probably one of the most overplayed 90’s rock songs of all time? Yeah. But as someone whose exposure to popular music when I was younger was mostly through radio and songs my parents played, I didn’t hear this song ever. It is new to me. Which means I can enjoy falling in love with this like people back then did. Its reputation doesn’t change the fact that it is an amazing song, and is worthy of being as big as it is. Rating: 6/10

Decent songs. Enjoyable but not great. Good for its time. Doesn’t sound too dated but just doesn’t seem to last forever. like hearing the songs, but won't seek out this album to listen to.

Carried by a few songs

Started off engaged, but about halfway through the album, it seemed like all the tracks sounded essentially similar. I would definitely give other albums a chance having never listened to Oasis before.

Fine I guess

very crunchy guitar. i'm so sick of wonderwall though. i like the swamp song and she's electric, and morning glory is pretty good. today i learned that red wine supernova by chappelle roan is referencing champagne supernova

Some classic hits mixed in with more so so lyrics/riffs

I really liked this album when it came out. Or rather, I really loved the two main songs from this album when it came out. And I remember all the hype about Oasis being the next coming of the Beatles. Now I just find this album - and those songs - whiney. Not terrible, just not remarkable.

I almost can't believe how much we lapped this up at the time. Lumpen lyrics, lumpen music 😬 Still has some last remnants of the Definitely Maybe energy - but let's be honest, it's not really a top 50 record of the year, let alone a multi million selling powerhouse 🤷🏻‍♂️ I mean, there still are a handful of decent moments but in retrospect the Quoasis jibes were fully justified.

A couple good tracks but i wasnt wowed

pretty good. nostalgia, mid 90s hits. 3.5.

Childhood classic.

Manc bastards

With Oasis it's always difficult to find the balance between "I can't listen to these songs anymore" and "There's a good reason why these songs have been played so often. 3.5/5

Blah blah blah

This album was, amongst others, the soundtrack to my teens. Certain songs are hugely nostalgic, others make me want to scratch my eyes out, mostly due to Liam's nasally warble. I'm going to stick to listening to the Oasis tracks on an individual basis.

The most britpop of britpop. A genre I dislike. I didn't mind this album and I like the song wonderwall. Otherwise eh.. at least it isn't that bloated.

Wonderwall has given Oasis a bad reputation. I'm admittedly not a big fan of the aforementioned song; maybe due to overplaying, but I find it pretty annoying. Wow! What a hot take! The rest of the album is smooth sailing. Chill, poppy songs that are easy and accessible. Not breaking any new ground, but completely inoffensive.

Fell asleep twice. A bit basic. But still enjoyed. Best tracks: Don't Look Back In Anger, Hello, Champagne Supernova, and Morning Glory.

It's ok. Doesn't really trip my trigger but decent to listen to in the background.

41/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Meh. Three okay songs. Sounds like a tribute to the Beatles.

This is the first album in this challenge (33 albums in) that I actually own a physical copy of!! I lived in the uk at the height of this album’s battle with blur and listening to it again after so long was very nostalgic. I saw them live at Shane festival and Liam Gallagher was a bit of a knob. A nice slice of time!

For some biazzro reason in the mid-late 90s I decided that ‘my’ Britpop band was Blur and so therefore Oasis (The Verve, Pulp etc) sucked and I refused to listen to them 😂. Thank you to 1001 for giving the chance to revisit my prejudices. I didn’t hate this, some tracks were quite ok, some meh. The brothers are still obnoxious wankers, so that brings it down a star Fave track: Roll with it

I said maybeeeeeeeee

3.5 I couldn’t get the Gallagher whining out of my head.

Not a huge fan of oasis, it was just ok

It's not anything I'd choose to listen to, and it's pretty bloated, but it's a pretty solid listen. The vocals are occasionally grating, but you can't help be swept up in a fair few of the tracks. Fav track: Champagne Supernova

The hits stick in the craw, there's no denying it. They're well written and theres great key vocal lines. Vocals grated more than usual this listen, the nasal affected American twang really doesn't do it for me. Some of the album cuts really don't resonate too. A worthy addition, but never a favourite. Fave track: Champagne Supernova

I worked at Scratches Records, a grungy little record store in Newtown, Sydney, from about 1990-93. We used to stock the NME, although issues were about 3 months old by the time they reached us, and I used to read it obsessively. Britpop had started by the time the store shut its doors for good in 1993, but Oasis didn't go really huge until this album in 1995. I'd stopped my close following of British musical trends, but I was aware of this record, and I didn't really like it. I mean, I like rock and roll, and I like Beatlesque pop, and I like a good tune and a bit of attitude. So, why didn't I dig Oasis? At the time, I really felt like they were the emperor's new music. They seemed just like a bunch of really average guys doing nothing special, but with a massive confidence that what they were doing was world-shaking, and they didn't have to do anything to prove it. I actively hated they way they appeared in videos and live performance footage. They just stood there, stone-faced, absent-minded strumming, while that prat at the front stood there motionless and sang in his fairly flat affect. (What was it with Britpop and that flat affect? They all did it!) I felt like they were contemptuous of their audience and they just could not be bothered putting on a performance. I have since read Noel Gallagher talking about how he hated making videos, and I think he would agree that all of their videos are awful. And the songs really weren't that great. I mean, the tunes were often catchy, but the lyrics are really more than nonsense and doggerel (although far less pretentious than their Southern English contemporaries, thank god). The obvious lifts from songs of the past are numerous and not particularly artful. And I hated Liam's singing. He sings the notes, but I have the constant sense that he doesn't actually understand a single word of what he is singing. here's an exercise for the reader; compare a performance of Liam singing Wonderwall with one of Noel singing it. The words are not deep and don't make a lot of sense, but Noel can actually imbue some sense of emotion. But Liam is just a blank cipher. All the hype didn't help. The British music press didn't initially rate the album much, but did an unsubtle about face when it was clear that the record was selling boatloads and they could sell a bunch of papers if they jumped on the bandwagon. So, how to account for the massive success of this kind of mediocre record by a mediocre band? Well, it's got to be the songs. They are derivative and artless, but I think that is their appeal. They are comfortingly familiar, with cracking tunes that sound great when you sing along in a stadium. And you can project whatever meaning you want onto them. The lyrics and Liam's blank demeanor are a Rorschach test where the listener can project whatever is meaningful to them. But I don't for a moment believe that there is any real or intentional depth or art to what they are doing. I've never owned a copy of this record, but I pretty much know every song. As I said with the Eagles, ubiquity is not the same thing as virtue or quality. But these songs are catchy as hell, and they must mean a lot to lots of people. Were Oasis the next Beatles? Absolutely not. They made a couple of good rock albums, but they pissed away the chance to be really great on cocaine, booze, and ego. I certainly don't buy that they were ever a decent live band. If he reads this review, I am sure that Noel would offer to fight me. Liam would probably just thump me without warning. Over-rated. Three stars.

Good album but totally overblown tbh. The only song that feels special for me is Champagne Supernova, but the rest is fine. (3.5/5)

It's decent. That Wonderwall song could be a hit. It has a catchy chorus.

Pretty solid. You know, Oasis. Wonder wall. Bane of all people with guitar playing friends.

you can't deny it's a classic

It’s funny I quote the album title a lot but never listened to that title track. It’s good. Headshrinker has good distorted guitars.

yOu'Re My WoNdErWaAaAaAaLL

Very good album, the songs are too long though. A few gems.

A few decent ones, just made me want foo fighters instead

Do you remember when this group was hailed as the next Beatles?! Listening to it now I have to ask why people thought that. Other than the radio tracks it's just OK. I swear I liked this more...maybe older ears just don't like whiny British rock anymore. Anyway...it's OK.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I was a conscious human being in the 90's so I've heard the singles a million times, but I've also had this album and \"Be Here Now\" in my music collection for 20+ years so I've heard the whole album before. Gotta say I didn't love the vocals on most songs, with Champagne Supernova being a notable exception (although I forgot how damn long that one is). Anyway, I thought this album would be buoyed by nostalgia, but it ends up in the \"good not great\" pile for me.

While I will not argue the power of WONDERWALL, and CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA listening to the full album for the first time in a long while felt like a chore. I never expected to feel that way about this record, but it was releases while I was in high school, so I viewed it through the formative years glasses.

Is it Oasis' fault that wonderwall is overplayed? 🤔

Gud shit

This one is a bit divisive. Even though songs like Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova are absolute classics, I did not find myself enjoying much besides those. Part of it has to do with the mixing/production on this album. I found the sound to be a bit harsh and too loud especially on sections with heavy electric guitar usage. The guitar in this album honestly annoyed me and I don't think Oasis does the instrument well at all. The best moments of the album are during the slower calmer songs like the ones mentioned above and the track "Don't Look Back in Anger." I remember how popular this one was and the songs get plenty of time on radio even nowadays so that might have fatigued me. Even though I've never listened to this whole album the sound is familiar to me. Honestly have to say that this album was irritating to listen too and is honestly overrated. I'm glad I listened to it as it is an important album from what I've heard and read but I didn't really enjoy it. But a few songs did enter my playlist so I'll give it a 3/5.

I love rock/metal/punk. But Hello, so far, just sounds like noise. Not for me so far. Wonderwall - I know this song. Don't look Back in Anger - meh He has a nice voice, but this just doesn't seem to be meshing with me.

Not bad, some familiar songs.

Oh this album is such a LOL it brings up so many memories and although many of these tracks have become songs for shit open mics and self-obsessed men with guitars around campfires. I guess it's become a bit of a joke a lot of these songs. So many people in my generation just know all of the words to these songs and it's such a weird feeling for these songs to now feel very old. Although I have never got into this album I've heard the songs so much. 90s is so trendy right now but it feels like the 90s are being cherry-picked by younger people and if they want the flares and grungy look, they also need the very thin over-plucked eyebrows and the oasis obsession. You've got to take the rough with the smooth! The main memory coming up for me is actually at a "brunch" in Dubai after just meeting Joe Wicks, at the end of the all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet, everyone was off their trolleys wasted and my friends started singing oasis songs and literally hundreds of people at their tables around the room joined in and all sang Wonderwall. The security team were trying to stop us and get us out but everyone kept belting out "Cause mayyybeee" etc. That was hilarious and feels like a fever dream... Also I bet that wasn't what Oasis had in mind for that song... Iconic.

Pretty chill, but at this point maybe a little basic. I blame it on the overly popular "Wonderwall". I could listen to this at a cafe, but probably wouldn't play it at my house.

It’s IGHT. Overplayed. Some classics.

loved it when it came out, loved hearing it less and less as the years pass by.

It was good, I had no idea where wonder-wall came from. A little to pop rocky for my liking.

I have also hear this bunch of mid other than don't look back

Enjoying the mix of instruments and vocals.

It is as good as it was made out to be. I know we've heard the songs too many times but that doesn't mean they're not good. Peaked too early maybe?

Love this album. Listened to it a lot when I was in college.

One of my favorite memories in the city of Baltimore, was hanging out at Max's doing karaoke. A guy, drunk beyond words, got up to do "Wonderwall" and... managed to be a full measure off. The song would play: "I said maybeeee" and by "may" he was coming in, full force, full throat, from the beginning of the line. It was fun, singing to the song in time, only to be interrupted by this drunk guy howling out the lyrics. So cheers to that guy and Baltimore. Hope the hangover wasn't bad. Favorite tracks: "Wonderwall", "Champagne Supernova", "She's Electric"

Overhyped lager rock. Never a fan. Swagger does not equal greatness. There are a couple of good tunes but a I don't get the shtick and it ain't a masterpiece.

Bit slow for my taste

One or two good not great songs. The rest didn't thrill me.

Best leuk maar klinkt allemaal een beetje hetzelfde

“Wonderwall” is a generational anthem. Anyone who has lived through the nineties wouldn’t have been able to escape it and it’s not surprising that this is one of the bestselling albums off all time. The rest of the album is fairly decent, but some of the songs sound like they could have been demos for Wonderwall and borrow the same phrasing. “Morning Glory” breaks that mold, its guitar feedback giving it more edge and energy.

Had some good songs and was solid start to finish. Not a favorite or in any rush to listen to it again so a solid 3.

Connu parce que wonderwalls

Famous tracks, dreary album.

Really nostalgic, I heard some of these songs nonstop when I was younger. The ones I hadn't heard before didn't amaze me, though.

‘Wonderwall’ is objectively an excellent song and worth the price of admission alone, and the rest of the hits/singles that came off this: ‘Morning Glory’, ‘Roll With It’, ‘Champagne Supernova’ etc, are just as great. The rest of the album isn’t quite as memorable though.

# 42 : Something different from the list. There are some nice hits on here making it at least 3 star, but generally not that refined. They seem to start a song well, then after 1 verse and a chorus, run out of ideas so say sod it, lets just repeat the last bit we sang over and over! Champagne Supernova was my pick

WONDERWALL BANGER YEAH BABY

Big hits from 1995: Wonderwall Don't Look Back in Anger Morning Glory Champagne Supernova

A forgotten gem, underrated in our time

Wonderewall

it was nice

……so anyways here’s [several red laser dots appear on my chest] was more into this sonically than the other two records we’ve done so far

First half good second so so

Pretty standard catchy pop-rock album with a few really solid tunes. Never been much of a fan of their music, but this is pretty good. But as a "1001 Album" you must hear before you die, it doesn't feel that important. I've always felt their hype was better than their music. Again, good, but not great or legendary by any means.

Like, it's fine. I'm not sure if 50% of the songs here I've heard a million times in my life and never want to hear again makes the album as a whole feel more classic or more annoying, but overall it's just. A fine pop rock record. Morning Glory goes hard.

Dit is een heel bekend album! Goed te luisteren met bekende nummers. ***

Classic English sound Standouts: Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova

The album Oasis’s popularity crested, and critics went “ooo, cocaine” before concluding “too much cocaine” on the next album. I quite like seven songs on this, which is a decent haul, but bloat is real.

Actually pretty good

Not in my rotation, not my choice of group, but I always listen to an Oasis song to the end if it pops up on the radio. this is the first time I listened to this album all the way through and see why they were so popular. Several good, to really good songs & the hits, deserved to be so

Some absolutely huge choruses. Impressive how the final track, Champagne Supernova manages to be 7 minutes long and still a classic and have you singing along throughout.

Some radio hits, but heard them enough

Totally Average Britpop.

Important album of the 90s... but personally Oasis always felt so vapid and it sounds that way too. Gallagher brothers (especially Liam) are psychopaths; they are not good people. Noel literally saw the band and thought "maybe I can use them for my creative outlet" and then sought to create a "commercial sound". To me, if that's your goal then you aren't offering much to the space. Liam also said that members of Blur should "catch AIDS and die", what a piece of shit. Blur are so much better by the way. I know this is tangential to the actual music but I really dislike everything about those two. Musically, it's fine, safe Britpop. Definitely a contrast to grunge of the time, but today almost relegated to joke. I'd love to meet a die-hard fan of Oasis that can convince me of why they love them, because to me they are the wonderbread of brit rock.

Idk I was having a bit of a mental breakdown when I was listening to this so I don't really know what my thoughts are

Better than i remembered. Last four tracks bang. Delightfully youthful. Still a lot of tracks that i don't enjoy, probably due to bejng overplayed rather than any deep fault of the music:just tunes that dont lend themselves to massive relistening imo.

Well anyways heres wonderwall.

It’s impossible to separate this from the cultural baggage of wonderwall but I tried. This isn’t bad at all but feels a little self important to me somehow. A little long.

Anyway, heres Wonderwall. 3/5

(What's the Story) Morning Glory? is the second album by English rock band Oasis. The musical structure was grander, signifying a change from the group's debut album. This change paid off as this album propelled Oasis to become a worldwide rock phenomenon instead of a British indie act. The singles - especially Wonderwall - topped charts in most countries and helped the album sell. This best-selling album has been certified 16x platinum in the UK and 4x platinum in the US. This important Britpop album was not well received by critics at first, but the mainstream populations around the world had critics changing their tune. I enjoyed this Oasis album very much for its blend of indie rock with Britpop swagger. I'm surprised that I only knew the song Wonderwall, when a lot of the other tracks were pretty good too. Great album from the mid-90's that is a nostalgic soundtrack from that time period.

This album is like 10 years older than I thought it was! 16-year-old me is vibing, brings back memories of a high school crush playing Wonderwall for the school talent show 😳😍😘 3 stars for nostalgia and fond memories

I loved this album as a high schooler. I realize it’s pretty cringy and overplayed at this point, but it still gets some nostalgia points from me.

MOR pop brit style

listen to it later

I never understood the allure of this band. Their shit really feels paint by the numbers. There were so many better bands in that era but somehow they rose to the top. That's not to say they're bad. Just kind of meh...

Didn’t love it, everything sounded like wonderwall. But not unpleasant either

Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova are definitely standouts here. The success of those songs sort of overshadows the rest of the album, as I am very familiar with those but everything else was new. The persistent thought I had was that I could see why I had only heard those tracks, as everything else on the album unfortunately just pads for time. Not great, not terrible, and the number of standout songs is pretty decent.

6/10 cheesy but enjoyable

5/10. Anyways, here's Wonderwall

First few songs were bangers but then it got boring. I'm a wonderwall defender though

Megahittien lisäksi ihan hyvä kokonaisuus. 3,5 tähteä taipuu nyt kolmoseen koska nelosessa on kuitenkin merkittävästi parempia levyjä kuin tämä on.

Solid album. Deserves a relisten.

Between 3 and 4 but not enough high moments to put it up there. There's the overplayed singles, deep cuts that sound good, then champagne supernova is great. Overall probably 3.5.

moins mon vibe live et j'ai pas eu le temps

Definitely a classic, an above average album all the way through

not into Oasis but still a decent album

Eh. While it's an album I owned, I think nostalgia carries it. Typical emo brit pop sound.

Not as good as I remember it :/

Anyway… there’s Wonderwall.

One of my favorites- so many hits on one album!!

I was familiar with a few of the songs, but had never listened to this album in its entirety. Stand out songs: Wonderwall, Hey Now, Hello, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova. Very 90s, very British. I can clearly hear the Beatles influence, which is not surprising. I really liked it.

This is fine. "Don't Look Back in Anger" is really, really good. Weird how that wanker Liam isn't on it...

I definitely remember this CD from when I was in middle school in the mid-90's. Not sure that I ever really listened to it from start to finish back then, probably played Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova lots of times. As an album it's got decent flow and was not bad, not a 5 could be a 4 but I'll round down like Matt

It was pretty good but like still not my taste again calming music tho

The only hotter than this album's critical reception at the time, would be the intensity of this band's flash in the pan.

Some bangers

Cussssss maybeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Oasis är som bäst då man hör deras hits, de hä va lite långtråkigt mwn helt bra

A fine enough Brit rock thing. Falling somewhere between the jingle jangle of the Smiths and the Beatles with a bit of the more raucous side of the Isles every now and again, musically speaking and then the, at best, fun but, mostly, half clever lyrically we have then 90’s retro-present Oasis. Ignore all of the extracurricular activity of the brothers either at each others throats or someone else’s, and you have perfectly acceptable pop music made with guitars. I ain’t mad about it, and it is wonderful for a sing song. There are other bands, i.e. the Smiths or Blur, I would pick at any point over them but they fit neatly in with things.

Noel Gallagher on lahjakas mutta tyylitajuton säveltäjä. Vaikka lähes jokaisessa biisissä on huomiota herättäviä melodioita, niiden häikäilemätön affektihakuisuus johtaa melkein poikkeuksetta yliampuvuuteen, liialliseen rönsyilyvyyteen tai popahtavaan vivahteettomuuteen. Ne jäävät myös soimaan päähän.

-had to listen for a bit, really enjoy Hello -didn’t like Roll With It until found myself moving to the music -Wonderwall is okay -not totally my my style but i vibe w it -Don’t Look Back in Anger is beautiful -could see myself enjoying more on a second listen -on the fence w Hey Now!, a bit too long -come back to Some Might Say -Cast No Shadow is interesting -I think She’s Electric will grow on me (and Champagne Supernova) -some songs are good, just too long and they get boring -British FAVORITE: Don’t Look Back in Anger Overall: 6.5-7/10. Not my typical genre, but I can see how someone can really enjoy it and I think another listen will help.

Wonderwall <3 Paar lekkere singles, maar ik zal niet naar het complete album blijven luisteren.

It's not very nuanced or thoughtful, in a definite music for drunk people kind of way! But I think they've got an undeniable swagger about them, and it's a drunken kind of swagger - I think Liam is a rockstar, even if in personality more so than talent, and I think there is something to pre-Knebworth Oasis where they have the conviction and self-belief of a band drunk on their own rise to stardom. And yes it's music for a big room, but unlike a lot of manufactured pop built in think tanks and focus groups, this contains more honesty and humanity by virtue of it actually being made by two brothers who, despite the songs' limitations in reality, did themselves buy what they were selling. Or maybe they've got me fooled. But sometimes you just want a drunk sing along with a room full of people who know the chorus, and if that's what you want, I would wager there are few bands who can supply you with better material!

Didn’t finish

listened to again a load of meh

Hittibiisien takaa ei noussut oikeen mitään. Vähän kulahtanut saundi kokonaisuudessaa…

After reading about the album, I'm amazed how popular this album was in it's day. I only recognized Wonderwall, but don't think I could've told you it was by a band called Oasis. But it was a good listen. Definitely some 90s British alt rock

kinda mid, kinda good. I like a couple tracks.

Didn’t listen but wonderwall/10

The day, the characters in Coronation Street mentioned Oasis and buying the album was a milestone where he knew they’d made it! The classics are thumping tunes but one album at a time is enough. I wouldn’t want to listen to a lot at a time, but there are some great hooks and what they lack in humour they make up for in style. The fact that I knew most of the words and could sing along to most of it is testament to their longevity/omnipresence. I’m okay with a Manchester nasal drawl.

NOOOOOOO DON'T MAKE ME LISTEN TO WONDERWALL PLEASE GOD NOOOO (good album just not really my kinda music)

actually enjoyed it more than was expecting, my favorite songs were not the 'hits'

This was surprisingly just ok to me. I think our generation over played these homies.

наконец-то осознала донт лук бэк ин энгер) теперь знаю о чём говорили сверстники столько лет назад

FUn album but not find the vocals a bit whiny

Not a big fan of this group however a best of album would be good

This one brings me back. I listened to this one quite a few times, Wonderwall was on the radio constantly, champagne supernova and don't look back in anger also were in heavy rotation. A good album overall

Quintessential 90’s rock. He really sounds like a whiny John Lennon sometimes. The 3 big hits are definitely the best songs on the record. Very much guitar driven but the leads are nothing special. So many anthemic choruses they kind of deserve singable memorable solos to go with them.

Objectively I think this is a great album. Champagne supernova is a great song. I would never choose to put this album on but I think it’s really well done and some interesting songwriting.

A cool blend of 90s indie rock and Beatles-esque Brit-rock sound

Classic 90s sound. It was fine overall. There is a reason 2 of these songs we move famous than the others.

Wonderwall is nowhere close to the best song on this album. I really enjoyed half of this album, Champagne Supernova and Don’t Look Back in Anger are standouts. The songs I didn’t like I really didn’t enjoy.

Hello has cool guitar tones but overall feels like somewhat of a nothing-burger. the loudness is cool but it stays the same throughout the entire thing and it gets kind of exhausting Roll With It has a cool chorus and good melodies. The middle point and the bridge add some cool psychedelic guitar tones and rhythms to spice things up. already better than track one I went into the Wonder wall with an open mind and realized the song has some nice lush textures to it. It's still a song I'm not crazy of how overplayed it is and the vocal melodies during the verses can get kind of annoying though I can appreciate this song more now. The guitar melodies in the background of the pre-choruses are easily my favorite thing about this track Don't Look Back In Anger starts sounding like a britpop version of John Lennon imagine except it actually becomes a decent song next. The beautiful chord progressions, interesting lyrics, beautiful outro, and lush instrumentals make this my favorite track so far. Hey Now! almost feels like a shoegaze song with the gliding guitars in the intro and the chorus, and the lyrics are some of my favorite on the album so far. Has some of the best guitar playing and the dense textures add a lot of warmth. Favorite song so far. I don't have much to say Swamp song excerpt 1 since its a 40 second interlude but its a fine interlude I guess. Some Might Say is just kind of a mid rock song. I don't really have much to say about it. similar issues to Hello. Far too long for it's own good. Feels like they didn't know how to end it so they just let it go on for a minute too long and fade out. Cast No Shadow is a pretty cool dreamy low-key track with some cool lyrical imagery. The sliding guitar in the background adds a lot of texture. She's electric has a gorgeous dreamy intro but borders on bland for the rest of the length. kind of a forgettable track though. Morning Glory suffers from similar issues to Some Might Say except with better instrumentation and better melodies. Not a track I plan on returning to but improves over some of the duds in the tracklist and works well within the flow of the album. Champagne supernova is by far the best track on the album. Combined with the best writing, song structure, atmosphere, and instrumentation on the entire album it is just a joy to listen to. amazing finish.

Un incontournable de la Britpop. J'aime pas tout ce qu'ils ont fait, mais cet album est assez important.

The times I have spent in this very spot on Berwick Street veering to the right hand side to go into Selectadisc and buy albums. Despite all the records sales, despite the Knebworth ticket phenomena, despite all the media hype, at the heart of it are two average albums. When they're good, they're very good but there's still a lot of filler on both of the first two albums. Liam is a great singer though. Funny how it all started going wrong when they sacked the drummer. But as a memory of one of the very favourite years of my life (1996), it still has a massive pull.

I'm one of those ultra alternative types that thinks Oasis are in the same "most overrated band of all time" bracket as the likes of Queen and Rolling Stones. I was also very much in the 'Team Blur' camp and think Liam is over-hyped tit. But certain tracks make up the soundtrack to a huge cultural period. So, from a historical perspective, it's a 3 from me.

Not listened to this all the way through for 25 years. Some good choruses and chord changes, but a lot of the songs plod at the same mid-tempo, and there is a lot more filler than on Definitely Maybe.

A security blanket of nostalgia for ex-teenagers of the 90s. You know all the words ... have sung it at weddings, birthdays, in the street at 3am ... can play Wonderwall on the guitar (and nothing else). It's accessibility makes it easy to knock, but also easy to like.

Some good tracks but this is one of the most overrated albums of the 90s

I appreciate what they did. I sung along to some songs. But Liam's voice isn't my fave.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yes, it’s a classic and there’s not much else to be said. I wouldn’t even class myself as a fan of oasis at all and I couldn’t care less about them or the history but this is a very very good record Favourite song: Track 10 - Morning Glory

Still decently indifferent on this one.

Decent.

3.5 stars. Just not a fan of Brit pop/ rock

it's oasis. you know what to expect. it's kind of boring, kind of well executed, kind of here comes a solo that looks like rock and roll, annnnnnnd we are back to boring vocals.

Its a pretty good album if you have never listened to music before. I often hear people describe Oasis as "beatlesque". It lacks the subtlety and only achieves similarity in the Britishness category, which is a pretty shallow assessment. The biggest distinction between Oasis and the Beatles, and honestly the same in the case of Oasis vs. Radiohead (a more contemporary Brit rock comparison), is Oasis can't arrange for shit in comparison. That being said, I do really like the track don't look back in anger, and the drums on wonderwall are good. Honestly memes aside, wonderwall is a solid song.

A few solid songs, not the biggest fan of Oasis general vibe and the album felt like it dragged on a little but it was still enjoyable

decent album, feels very beatles-influenced. i could take it or leave it.

I get why this is so popular. It's not my cup of tea really but I get it.

This was solid.

I was never really into these guys and this listen didn't really do much to change that. The hits are still cool, but a whole album's worth is a bit much. I got tired of Liam's voice about halfway through. Noel definitely has a gift for melody and great hooks, though, and I still dig the strings on "Don't Look Back in Anger."

Soft rock, very well known songs.

Liked Don't look back in anger.

A balanced piece of it's era with some unforgettable rock hits.

Listened Before? Y I'm well familiar with this album, having owned it when it was originally popular. I like it, its not amazing but it's okay for a listen now and then. Britpop and American influences combine to make a good sounding band. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Don't Look Back in Anger

i really enjoyed the music but if i had one complaint, and i do, it would be his voice - it makes the sounds all sound the same. but not necessarily on a bad way, just in a ??? way.

Ya know, this probably is the perfect pop/alt rock album. It's not very intricate or impressive but it has fantastic energy and is very catchy. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it’s perfect for what it strives to be. Several of the songs were pretty uninteresting to me; I think that once you’ve heard a few of their songs, you’ve heard em all. But their formula works. Wonderwall is a better song than I remember.

some of the songs were good, but I feel like most of them were very similar to each other and none of them had a specific mood. overall ok, but a bit too vintage for me.

enjoyed it more that I thought I would. Everyone knows Oasis and frankly they it got a bit much for me. Was a welcome change from the Definitely Maybe album which normally comes up.

Takes me back. Personnaly Oasis has never been one of those bands I regularly listen to. I won't change it if a song comes on in a Playlist, but the music isn't anything that I find absolutely amazing.

Sounds like a teenager's car growing up

Couple of bangers and generally impressive Beatlesque song-writing

Great band

Pretty boring, honestly. I don't understand why this was so popular. People compare them to the Beatles, but this is by no means as good as Beatles, nor as catchy. That being said, it wasn't *bad*, so I'll give it a 2.5.

I used to hate Oasis, but I’ve slowly accepted that Noel = cool, Liam = cunt. Still not really my thing, but it has its moments. D+

Well, it sounds just like I remember, all big guitars and egos. Still holds up well, but I'm still on the Blur side of this fight.

The production is shocking and it hasn't dated well but, Champagne Supernova is a tune. And that's enough to redeem some of the misfires on the album.

Memes aside, Wonderwall only got so overplayed because of how damn good it is. The rest of the album is no slouch either. Truly THE britpop album.

i did not hate this as much as i expected i would

An album I enjoyed a bit more than I thought it would. There's a certainty and naturality to the songwriting, as if they had a sure vision for the album's sound and style upon starting it. The results are surprisingly melodic, although mediocre in places.

Another album largely defined in my mind by a particular era when Inas intentionally watching music videos. Singles from this just dominated (as did the “new British Invasion” narratives, coverage of the rivalry with Blur, and reports of bad behavior). I think it’s overrated, though I like a lot of it, and the screamingly loud, over-compressed mixing marked the escalation of a rotten trend.

Cutting through the hype at the time of release (including my own comical hero worshipping) its not all good. Roll with it and some might say are not good singles (the b-sides are strong). Perhaps a third of the album is quite good. Overhyped and not as fun as Definitely Maybe, even if Wonderwall and Don't look back in anger are classics.

Really liked this group and their songs

Brings back memories still proffered Blur!!!!

I did own this like pretty much everyone else under 25 in the 90s. Probably the first time in over 20 years listening to it. It's ok, mass produced, bit boring and bland brit pop. I could live happily ever after if I never hear Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova ever again.

Not a big fan of Oasis, but damn, there are some gems on here, particularly the title track. Wonderwall and Champagne are played out for me, but still good songs. Solid record, but short of brilliant in my opinion (clearly not the Gallagher's).

I liked it better then Definitely Maybe. Still not an Oasis fan.

So in the big fight between Blur and Oasis back in the day, I was a Blur stan. Yeah, I get why folks adore Oasis more than life itself, and there’s the odd tune I can put up with, like Roll With It or She’s Electric, but overall, the vibe is a bit slow and moody for me. It deffo has a place in Britpop history, but there were bands I listened to far more at the time.

pretty standard indie-ish 90s rock. anyway, here's

Hi- Hello I liked it more than I thought I would, but Noel Gallagher is such a smarmy weasel that it brings down the experience.

Buen disco

The album has 4 strong songs. The rest are of varying quality.

A classic

You know that bit in the movie 'Yesterday' when it turns out that Jack also wrote 'Wonderwall' and it's barely noteable? That's how I feel about Oasis - what's the big deal? They're fine, but clearly quite derivative and I'm not a huge fan of the vocal styling. In general I'm not a fan of Britpop though. That being said, I did like a few of the songs, and my top pick is 'She's Electric' which I'm not sure I'd heard before.

Not heard the album all the way through. Familiar with the singles. Overall a solid album, maybe.

I feel the same way about this as I feel about most Brit-Pop (which BTW is the most over-represented genre on this list). It's good, listenable, catchy even, I like the sound, but ultimately it's not super interesting. It's a bit like bubblegum music - enjoyable but not much in the way of nutritional value. 3 stars.

Kind of annoying to be honest. I love a good singalong to dont look back in anger or champagne supernova, but I found this soaked in Gallagher bro arrogance 🤷‍♂️

This album: *gets released* Critics: In this album, Oasis departed from the alt-rock sound of "Definitely Maybe" and made songs that are more melancholic and ballad-ish. It's not as good and original as "Definitely Maybe", it sounds generic, but it's an okay album. This album: *gets commercially successful* Critics: WOAHHH THIS IS A GIGANTIC ALBUM THAT MADE OASIS SUCH A WORDLWIDE ACT! BEST BRITISH ALBUM BEST '90S ALBUM BEST ALT-ROCK ALBUM BEST BRITPOP ALBUM BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME! A MUST-LISTEN BEFORE YOU DIE!!!

Meh heard it already. It's pretty decent

This album came out when I was 4. Kinda grew up listening to Oasis.

I know this album was huge, but I could never stand Oasis and their shit attitudes and how they posed as the second coming of the Beatles, right down to the mop tops. I hated it in the 90s and it still annoys me now. Still, I gave the album several listens. The songs are all decent, but Liam's whiny voice bugs me and the album is too damn noisy (these kids with their loud rock n' roll!). Plus, too much of their music is derivative. I'll give it a 3 because it's not *bad*, it's just I can't separate the attitude from the music and the derivative nature of the music keeps me from giving it a higher score. Favorite track - Champagne Supernova. Enjoyed the guitar solo and anthemic ending.

Classic album. Outside of the three extremely popular songs I already knew quite well, I found the rest to be about on par with those. One or two not so great ones (looking at you, She's Electric) but not enough to ruin the album in any way. 6/10

Never been a massive fan of Oasis, but somehow I think this one had aged more than I had expected. Still got a banger track for my playlist, though.

Bought back some memories from the 90s but other than that 3/5

Not very memorable

3.5 stars. The well known songs are all time greats but didn't get into the rest of the album too much.

Not a huge fan of Oasis. Good Album though

AlreaDY rated, would not seek out, middle of the road

Wonderwall, klassikere, britisk guitarrock

Album started out on a terrible foot with an awful muddy sound on the first two songs, plus a very old fashioned trite sound reminiscent of the beatles. But then wonderwall and don't look back in anger reversed that, with a crisp, well balanced sound, and a slow listenable groove. At the best, they can find that nice groove mixed with energetic rock, like She's Electric. At worst, it's just muddled sound with uninspired melodies and simple lyrics, like Hello or Morning Glory. It should be a 2, but I can't help but love Wonderwall, and all the terrible memes it's created. Highlights: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger

A few decent songs I've never heard. I don't hate 'Don't look back in anger' as much as I used to this time around.

I prefer Blur

While I hadn't listened to this whole album before, I knew the singles off of it. It was okay, but the singles were the high point.

it was okay I’ll give it a 6/10, pretty annoying but also pretty well made so idk, kinda conflicted but I’m leaning towards positive feelings

I used to love this album. Not so much anymore. Still good, but his voice is grating after a few songs.

Overrated pub rock. Status Quo covering the Beatles

Classic British music.

I feel like there is a lot of people who really enjoy Oasis. I had never hard this album but I was fairly Familiar with a lot of the songs. And maybe I would have enjoyed them more if they weren't absolutely memed to death. So It wasn't bad, but I didn't like it very much at all.

not my favorit

For a band that wants to surpass The Beatles, they surely miss the mark on short, concise songs. They’re clearly heavily inspired by The Beatles buy taking the sign off melody to “With A Little Help From My Friends” and forcing it for their sign off on “She’s Electric”. This record hold most, if not all of Oasis’s hits and it’s deserved as there are good radio tunes on This record. The biggest downfall of this record and Oasis in general is carrying on a song for far too long. Nearly every song on this record should end at the 3/4 mark. I found myself digging the songs and having the natural conclusion and “fill” of the song just to look at the song duration and find that there’s still a minute to go. Oasis forces every song to be a radio hit by repeating the chorus line until you’re done with the song and it kills it’s replay value. If the songs were shorting and leaving you wanting more, I could see myself wanting to listen to the song, but left me wanting the song to be over with the repetitive “driving me to like it” repetition. “Hey Now” does a great job and being a punchy highlight, but still would be better with shaving off the last chorus repeat. Overall: there’s some good songs on this record. Catchy tunes and for sure hits, but forcing every song to end the same way with repetition doesn’t make me want to come back any time soon. 3.4/5 stars

Less essential than the debut, also sounds very much of its time

Uneven but with some standouts.

I will admit I am not excited for this one, but I will give it a shot. Update : Didn't start off strong, but there are some songs I really enjoy. The lyrics seem pretty weak but there are some fun melodies. Also, WAY too many songs, definitely could have been edited down. 2nd update : WAY TOO LONG, Couldnt finish

- wonderwall album - "Don't Look Back in Anger" opening chords sound like "Imagine" - one of the best selling British indie pop albums - prefer the Swamp Songs

Un poco mainstream xD

Having never listened to "Wonderwall" or anything else by Oasis, this was a new experience for me. It was a good album, though I was more wowed by songs like "Don't Look Back in Anger" than by "Wonderwall."

Struggling to get past my bias against this album from people singing 'what's the story' too much on my nights out. Intro is good. She's electric and champ supernova also good Didn't do much for me, not a massive fan of the production.

Above-average album. Very 90s! Couple of good songs outside the major hits

Better than I thought it'd be. Wonderwall is definitely one of the weaker tracks on the album.

Några riktigt goa låtar men skräpigt album

Have never been a big fan and this album confirms it. It's all ok, but just not my dudes.

I liked this when it came out, but I was a kid. Never enjoyed them since, and was expecting to despise this on revisiting. However, it's actually pretty good. Songs strike a good balance between rock energy and catchy, inoffensive pop. I don't even mind the Mancunian singing too much. And the less familiar tracks in the middle were actually quite consistent (rather than low-effort filler). 3/5 - which is roughly 3 more than I expected to give it. :)

It's weird - it's great fun, I know all the lyrics and notes, but is it good? Best?

I'm not a big britpop fan but it's hard not to like a lot of this album, there are some really good tracks. By far the best britpop on this list so far, 3.5

Gouwe ouwe! Mooi plaatje, hoewel Oasis nooit echt 1 van mijn topfavorieten was/is

Doet me niet zoveel.

Not a patch on their debut. Ok.

#3 Gallagher in action. Britpop

Nolstagic but I like this one a bit less than the other Oasis album. BECAUSE MAYYYYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

"You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out" "Don't look back in anger / At least not today" "Some might say we will fight a brighter day" Classic album, plenty of enjoyable songs on. One to relax to in the background.

"Boring" drawn out British rock. OK for BG listening. Several Good songs.

I never wanted to give this album a chance in the 90s because I hated the radio hits. But I listened with an open mind and it turns out I like a few of these. Overall a mediocre album in my opinion, but definitely better than I was expecting based on my previous thoughts about Oasis.

Svak 3.

Shame about the distortion in the sound profiling, I really can't get on with that

Highest rated Brit pop album. It wasn’t half bad, compared to all the other shit. A little cheesy, but mostly because of the huge overplayed-ness of some of the songs.

Noisy!

Ik ken alle nummers zonder het album ooit eerder bewust te hebben opgezet. Then again, Oasis was nooit echt m'n ding.

En su momento, Oasis me pudo haber caído mal, particularmente porque es una payasada la relación entre los Gallagher y su pleito con Blur. Dejando eso de lado, este disco tiene algunas rolas que me disfruto sin mayor problema. "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Morning Glory" y "Some Might Say"

Wonderwall... Achei que as que eu nao conhecia foram melhores!

Feels way more obvious how inspired they were by the beatles on this re-listen . Though Champagne Supernova is still a favorite of mine.

Aside from the tracks that I was familiar with, the album as a whole wasn’t too bad. I had built up this huge stigma for years with Oasis, and I am not sure why.

Great hits, but otherwise not impressed

meh, listenable.. but meh

I like the songs that I already know. The other songs are okay, but the album gets pretty repetitive sounding.

classic 90s rock, may be a bit stale at this point but still solid

Couple of iconic songs (Wonderwall & Champagne Supernova) on this good album

A little kakephonic at times, or too basic. Heard the best songs too many times

Pure nostalgia...

Some good stuff, but mostly I generally find them annoying.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would have been. Still overstuffed and filled over the brim with unnecessary anthems and filler riff-raff. Notable highlights include Morning Glory, Don't Look Back in Anger, Some Might Say and Champagne Supernova (in spite of its length). The rest of the songs are either too bland to be interesting, too corny to be amusing or just plain overrated. 6/10

The songs on the first half of this album tend to blend together for me. The chords and melodies are similar, as is the general soft rock tone. The singing is good, but not distinctive, plus Liam has a propensity for going flat. Ditto for the lyrics, which ring as apathetic, but not cringeworthy or bad. I found the second half better with more lush guitar work and instrumentation in general, but still had issues with needless lyrical repetition. Oasis gets compared to the Beatles and as copying to the Beatles frequently, and their influence is certainly clear on some of the songs (most notably to me, She's Electric, both in the lyrics and in the instrumentation, Morning Glory, and Champagne Supernova). But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, and I do think that there are other later influences from the 70s and 80s punk era that are also present in their music, not just the Beatles. Plus, if you're going to have clear influences, I think there are worse bands to choose. Champagne Supernova is an interesting reminder that the Beatles had limitations in their time and what they could lyrically discuss with frankness, which Oasis doesn't when it comes to things like drug abuse. Standouts for me are Wonderwall (predictable, but a refreshing outlier in the first half of the album - very necessary to break up the other songs), Some Might Say, She's Electric, and Champagne Supernova. I think the second part of this album is quite tight and good (verging on great!), but unfortunately the first half is lackluster with songs that are very similar, lyrically uninteresting, and lacking in good instrumentation. The second half tackles more interesting subjects like starstruck love and the feeling of being high, has some great guitar solos and use of other instruments like the harmonica, and the singing is generally better. The album as a whole is pretty cohesive, but not varied enough. 2.75/5

One of those bands and albums that don't really need some deep background work to bring up. You know Oasis, you know >that song<. You know Champagne Supernova, etc etc. Not doubting its importance at all. I thought Raw Power by The Stooges was an album meant to defy dynamic range and high fidelity that bands like Steely Dan or [insert funk or soul record here] would love. I say this as a metal fan and a fan of loud abrasive music that a record like this cannot and should not be so brickwalled in its compression that makes Noel like the only audible thing at all times. I can't even hear the rhythm guitarist or the bassist do anything with how loud and jarring it is. Sure you can hear the snare and maybe sometimes a cymbal or two (hard challenge: not on champagne supernova), but it's so incredibly distracting to the (allegedly good) songwriting that it just engulfs everything. This isn't just any ordinary britpop record, it's THE Britpop record, and one of the most important and focal album of the 90s. But I have to admit it, What's The Story Morning Glory and Oasis are definitely overrated. Everyone knows their big hits (we'll get to that later) and they're cherished as one of those "post-Beatles Great British Bands canon" as England still holds a strong cultural capital in the world. I never listened to Blur before this site gave me Modern Life Is Rubbish, and that record sweeps. Maybe because it was mastered without any fucking issue with compressing the absolute fuck out of dynamics that would make something like Wonderwall better, or even make that cooldown part in Champagne Supernova stand out more. No, they let partied out Iggy Pop take his hands on the console for this. Well if they actually did that, he would have done a better job. Also it wouldn't be britpop either but that's the fun of thought experiments. So yeah, let's talk Wonderwall. A song that will live forever like Funkytown/Smoke On The Water/Mr. Brightside/Seven Nations Army, people will still play and know how these songs go until humanity is crushed by wild boars and dolphins. But the song is terrible. I don't mean that because it's played all the time and people sing along to it, but because it's such a cliche, daft love song that's so god damn cheesy that if you play it at a wedding, I will ensure I try to see you less often. Don't waste the most special day in your life on this planet to hear that fucking bullshit expression of love. There are so many other songs that would do the same trick. Don't get me started on how beginners like to learn this song on guitar first. Fuck that and fuck you!!!!!!! The guitar is such a fun instrument and people want to play this shit instead of trying to work hard and practice more to play literally anything else. I'm begging to you: please be more creative. Please. The other main song is Champagne Supernova. Aside from my criticism of that song in the "god damn this album is needlessly loud" section of the review, it's a much better song than Wonderwall. It serves its purpose and fits the Britpop genre perfectly. But I still don't like how Oasis essentially took the Madchester formula, did that work to make an album that sounds like fighting in the trenches of WW1 while talking about English life in the early to mid 90s at the same time. It's an example of the different goals at effect here: louder is not always better for every genre. If Oasis wanted to sound this loud, they should have gone for a more Shoegaze direction, but I guess that wouldn't sell better records than being all deep in the Britpop phenomenon. I did kind of like Don't Look Back in Anger, it's lyrics are (admitted by the Gallagher's) to be nonsense, but that can work with this level of mastering. Morning Glory is mostly good too aside from the fact you can hear clear brickwall all over the second half of the song, but it matches the production aesthetic Noel clearly wanted the record to sound like. Maybe next time they should make an album that sounds more like Spiritualized, but the guitar brain in him can only hear in the audible range a guitar has instead of remembering that bass and cymbals exist. The rest of the album is a total whatever. Probably would be so much better if it was never touched by Noel at all, but it doesn't matter. It sold a shit ton of records and made Oasis a household name, washing our mouths away from the filth of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain being big names. Oasis beat Blur in America (that's the Woohoo band as we know them here), the Gallaghers constantly pop up in the media and even on social media not giving a single shit about anything but themselves mostly because they made this record and some other stuff that would keep them in pop culture status forever. Almost like Guns N Roses was for their career, but Appetite for Destruction at least was a good record that was loud but didn't sound LIKE THIS WITH EVERY SONG AND GUITAR BEING IN ALL CAPS over the lowercase bass/drums/rhythm guitarist Oasis swears they employ in their band. I get why those big songs are so popular, but it would be better for the music world if Oasis was not as big as they still somehow are today. Without making any new records, they're still a big name. I can't really get that. I'd say because it appeals to the lowest common denominator but I think that would be somewhat offensive. I understand why this album is good for many people and less so understand how it's still so big today, but I can't shake off that it's just okay. Nothing more than just being okay. It's not even the best record of 1995! But it's just okay.

Wonderwall stands out. The others below average. At least the singing is above Pop average.

ive never intentionally listened to oasis before even though i obviously know most of this album already via osmosis or something idk, and i seem to be feeling grumpy today so here goes liam's voice is unbearable and wonderwall is shit. i have fun hearing some of these songs individually but a whole album of this samey whiney nonsense is too much jfc apparently i'm now required to move out of manchester

BUT MAYBEEEEEEEEEEEE DONT LOOK BACK IN ANGEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR

🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑 Emily has been disapproving of me skipping around here and there when I feel like my life is too precious to spend listening to certain albums since this skews our statistics, so when I saw (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? was today’s album, I decided it was about time I logged my first one star. It seems I am the fool today, because amidst the noxious audacity radiating off of the Gallaghers, I’d forgotten Oasis isn’t exactly ass. They’re just… fine. All of their baseless proclamations of being the next Beatles must really ruffle my feathers, but most of their tactlessness exists outside of the music itself—even their constant theft that everyone seems to just brush off doesn’t negate that they’re good performers. Certainly, Morning Glory? isn’t free of this kind of copycat behavior; no one’s getting fooled into thinking Gallagher minds are behind “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” but after some research, it seems like this is just the most obvious of many Beatles, um, homages. Compared to “Cigarettes and Alcohol,” these occasional sprinkled chords are harmless, and I’d even treat them like easter eggs (seemingly Oasis’s intention) were the Gallaghers not constantly waxing lyrical about their creative genius. Everyone’s a thief, and even they seemingly admit this, but it doesn’t seem to have instilled any humility in them. Are they aware they’re stealing and overcompensating? Are they even that self-aware? To their credit, they seem to have managed some iconic melodies of their own, which succeed with me to varying degrees. I have to say, I feel like Oasis pop-rock annoys me less when it’s not trying to be “raw” and “edgy” like everyone says they are. “Hello” was far more eye-rolling than “Roll With It” or “She’s Electric” because those are unapologetic, unpretentious ‘60s throwbacks, still doing someone else’s thing but somehow less performatively. Most of these songs are neither, though, instead being primarily inoffensive clap-along rock arena ballads, many of which I don’t really mind. While “Champagne Supernova” was an insufferable, seven-minute fuck-you to cap off fifty inane minutes, I’ll admit to nodding my head along to “Some Might Say,” even if the lyrics were mega ass. I also enjoyed the riff on “Morning Glory,” which is nothing new but it’s well utilized here, especially when it kind of shatters in the noisy section—fun detail. The infamous “Wonderwall” doesn’t annoy me nearly as much as I remembered it did, but I think I wouldn’t be able to stand it if I were subjected to nineties levels of airplay, or just one of those fabled parties where a guy whips out his acoustic guitar and says “Here’s….” It does make me wonder if my favorite songs would survive being popular. On one hand, I think I can tell if a song’s emotion can persist when I overplay it, but that’s not the same as being an inescapable cultural phenomenon and hollowed out by shallow trendiness. Then again, I’m not really sure “Wonderwall” has much to hollow out in the first place, you know? It’s can see it being one of those songs you bop your head along to, but not a craze that swept nations. Honestly, I’m really just struggling in general with how high the rating for this album is on the global reviews, but it does make me feel so much better about the crowd I’m always disagreeing with. I guess it’s just one of those values things—to think I almost felt ashamed for loving Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Bone Machine, Blackstar, or anything Björk, when those are clearly creative and visionary proclamations of authenticity (and that’s what makes them, like, really fun). Those traits are also what I value in the other highest rated albums on this site—looking at you, Abbey Road—making these visionary peers far closer to “being the next Beatles” than anything Oasis claims. Yet as much as other people like “Abbey Road” to the same degree I do, I think we still aren’t seeing eye to eye. After this, it’s clear I’m not in it for the same things as a lot of people are, which is a little disheartening, but that’s fine. I know how that sounds, but I think I’m okay with that now, actually. Something something “Your boos mean nothing, I’ve seen what makes you cheer.” Except that’s a Rick and Morty quote, so I really just invalidated my whole argument here, didn’t I? 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities) | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing

It has some great songs but overall pretty boring. I don't like this guys but I tried!
