Reviews (page 14 of 14)

Listening to this album the word "yikes" came to my mind... YIKES!

Nails on a chalk board. Obviously reviewing music is subjective, like I could listen to this album maybe on another day when I’m in a better mood (for the record I’m not in a bad mood I’m just not in a jubilant mood) and maybe I’d be more open minded about grading folk rock. But I hated it, I played it twice in one day and then I waited a few days before reviewing it so I could listen to it once more to see if I truly did hate this album as much as I thought. But at the end of the day this is an edgeless album. It’s just fluff and sorbitol, no natural sugar. I really mean that, this whole album is boring and melodramatic. It reminds me of people who are narcissistic sociopaths who don’t realize how shallow and vain they are. The most accurate description of this album that I could give to convey both the music and the whole vibe around it would be: “you remember the character from animal house that’s sitting on the steps of the fraternity trying to swoon college girls with his acoustic guitar before Bluto uncontrollably smashes it to pieces. Yah imagine if bluto never saved the day and that same guy got a full studio to make an album. That’s this album.

Folksy, whiney, boring snoozathon. Cover art is cool though. 1001 album worthy: No - 51/93

Unfortunately I could not listen album due to service error((((

Really just alot of nothingness. Only time I was really into it was during ‘Quiet Houses’ and thats because I thought he was saying ‘Donkey Man’ not ‘Don’t give in’. Should’ve called it ‘Quiet Horses’…. I’m here all week

Hearing White Winter Hymnal always inexplicably sends me into a psychopathic rage. It's probably for the best this isn't currently on Spotify. Legalise fox hunting again I say.

Not a big fan of this.

horrible

The Good: If we shorting the band name to FF, than we are forewarned about needing to fast-forward the songs… The Bad: the fact that the band name wasn’t Singing Koalas Into Porn. The Ugly: The look on the koala’s face… I mean, really? This is folk? Or Indie? Or Rock? This is none of the above. This is shit. This was a total waste of my time. This is what has been wrong with society for a while, thinking it is something which it obviously isn’t… Poor koalas deserved better… 1*

Snooze fest. Maybe that’s what they were going for?

Nee. Schrecklich.

I had never heard of Fleet Foxes, and TBH I wished it had remained that way.

Snore fest!

I do NOT like this album. I HATE the songs and wouldn't say I like the singer's voices. I highly recommend that you don't listen to this album.

soort van upbeat gregoriaans... 1 a 2 songs OK, maar dan slaat de verveling keihard toe

Boring

It’s a nope.

Not for me. Couldn't get past 3 tracks

One good song does not make a good album

Hippy bollocks. Dreamy, dreary, ugh. By the time we hear "Ragged wood", things get a little more lively, but it's quite a forgettable song. "Quiet Houses" is a little less dead. The subsequent reversion to monkishness makes me wish the house was quiet. I've finally found a band I hate more than Travis. I hate this album so much. Really awful. I wonder how it made it into the 1001?

Sigh. I feel super critical today. But this one just didn't grab me. Not even a lyric, a line, a melody. Maybe nova scotia has spoiled me, but there's more affective folk in our backyard. Some of the instrumental surprises were interesting, but it was as if they were trying to be retro and new, but had nothing of value to say or add to the timeline of music history. I like music that does something to me emotionally. This doesn't. Even the lyrical repetitions ring hollow to me---rather than emphasis, I hear loops that are caught up in a navel-gazing sense of their own perceived profundity. At the very least I would have liked to have heard a good story or sense of lived understanding of thought/sensation.....

Turd!!!!

Dull as 3 day old dishwasher

Utter dross. Folk music for people without a soul trying to pretend they have one whilst driving a Range Rover and shopping at Waitrose.

Would I listen to it again: no Is it a no-skip album: no Favorite song: - Least favorite song: all of them Do I like it: no

This did nothing for me.

Not my music

I wasn't a fan at all.

Oh goody! Somebody bought the "Oh Brother!" soundtrack, and became super-earnest.

website didnt save my friggin notes but yeah all of them r ❌ for me i dont like the whineyness and uninteresting folky type echo music yk

Psycho bluegrass, I’ll pass

Perfect soundtrack for a gluten free brewery

I don't like it, it good but is not My style

I get why it’s here but definitely not my bag. Lukewarm indie folk nonsense. Very pretty and atmospheric but also feels bland and empty 2.2/10

Nicht meine Richtung

Like a cd you bought at a folk festival where the music was live and the weed was really good. Once it's not live anymore and the good weed is a distant memory, it just sounds like another folk album. Okay if that's what you want. Forgettable.

Worked in a record shop for this whole decade and I consider most 00s indie to be a war crime

folk albums xd

Definitely not my music taste. Nothing exciting to me about the album. Have no reason to ever go back and listen to it

I feel bad but my opinion hasn't changed: no.

I know what people like about it. Does not work for me.

Ebenfalls zu abgspaced/experimentell für meinen Geschmack

Not for me

Not my type

Somebody shoot those crybabies down

Passed me by, did nothing for me

Boring.

Hate it

Non-descript, generic tripe of the time. Thank god we advanced beyond that only to our detriment though as this music is still accessible. The album up there as one of the stains of human history alongside the invention of the automatic bomb and the Holocaust. Give this one a skip.

Favorite song: White Winter Hymnal This one was tough. There just wasn’t much that stood out to me. Without the track listing, I wouldn’t have realized I was listening to different tracks because so many of them sound so similar.

muy aburrido

E segue mais um disco indie, ou folk, ou folkindie. E não forma nada de relevante para minha experência...

It's indie music. I don't need to listen to this. It wasn't good but it is better than some other indie albums. Still stay away from it.

Really did not find any joy with this one.

For a 39 minute album it sire feels lioe a 2 hour slog to get though.

Can't get into it. Low impact.

This is what all the hype was about ten years ago?! A bunch of my pals were going cock-a-hoop over this wank? What a mushy, churchy load of old pony.

Too precious for my tastes

It's boring as fuck. How people are listening to this in their millions I'll never know.

Sounded good to start with but I lost concentration pretty quickly. The word "pretentious" keeps entering my consciousness. Then I read some quotes by Robin Pecknold, he is pretentious with a capital W. The annoying thing is that I can hear echoes of Brian Wilson, which should make me want to like it, but it just sounds try hard. I'm getting to the end and it's just sounding annoying. Bellowing out "Oliver James!" at the end of a song doesn't help. Spotify decided to play Belle and Sebastian after this album had finished. I think that comes from a playlist entitled "Overrated Twaddle." I'm going to listen to Queen now, to get my good humour back. They were over the top, but with tongue wedged firmly in cheek.

I own or downloaded a Fleet Foxes album years ago... not this one thankfully. But now I think about it there is maybe only one track I like on that one. There were zero on here - and I like a bit of folksy Americana

Drivel, hard to find any redeeming features. Soft, inoffensive folk that feels like it was written purely for BBC Radio 2. I can see why some people might like it, as it’s a very good attempt at what it’s trying to be, but I hate what it’s trying to be.

Please make it stop

this makes me feel like i’m going through the great depression and the album cover isn’t helping

So unbelievably boring. I can't differentiate any of the songs it's just all so flat

Never got into this band and this didn’t do it for me either. So boring

Boring hipster stuff.

Not my genre

Snore. Not for me.

It just kept going.....

Old folky riffs that are not for me

Boring, anthemy hipster music

Don't like Folk-Getting-Baptised-In-A-Lake-Revival Music personally

Awful background music

Forgot I was listening to it... just didn’t register with me.

Minstrel nonsense. Gtfo

1.5 stars. Very bland music

Nice album, 4/5.
