Reviews (page 13 of 14)

So boring. I almost fell asleep

Never heared of them before. Nothing remarkable. Sounds too much like a church choir to me. favourite: "Your Protector" 2,5

I wanted to like this album more than I did. I gave it 4 complete listens over the weekend and although it sounded better on a real stereo, I still didn’t get into it as much as my musical colleagues. Just sounded like another version of Mumford and sons, and both bands have stupid names.

Eh. Not bad. Not my type at all. Cool and calming, relaxing even, good background music too. Very country-folk-indie. 6.000000000000001/10.

moments but nothing held me. maybe a listen in a different season would change that? could i write poetry to this? n

Pretty typical Mid-2000's Indie Pop/Rock. Nothing remarkable here. It's not bad, but it's also not special.

Started off OK, but after 3 songs I was ready for it to end.

2.0 Didnt think any of tracks stood out as being anything special

Dude can sing, it's a nice album but passed me by, not really my cup of tea.

Uneventful, like taken the quietest songs from Mumford and sons and making an entire album from them... Like Nick Drake, but more boring... I do not hate it, but I also do not like it... In fact, I find it annoyingly boring...

Bit samey

It is Folksy, which I normally like, but somehow this seems boring and like it is trying too hard to be something it isn't. The only song I liked was covered by Pentatonix and they did a much better job.

Pretty dreary but musically interesting

This is like the band Wes Anderson would create if he was a musician. Both of the opening songs could be the music playing during the opening scene of any of his movies. And the album cover could easily be something that Bill Murray and Owen Wilson are talking to each other about Renaissance painting. I like them less than The Head and The Heart who they remind me of. There is definitely a Beach Boys feeling to this album. The vocals on these songs sound almost identical. Listening to one song from this album, ok. Listening to an entire album, too much. I don't hate the sound, it's just too much the same.

Its alright, weird and beard

just not a fan of folk, its the same song every time with different notes and words, but the same nonetheless NNN

Absolutely forgettable.

Nothing special

Was hoping for more from this. Thought it was rather boring. 2.5

Pros: It's pleasant, has a nick gimmicky sound, it's not too long Cons: It gets kind of tiresome quickly. I didn't mind it overall, but I'm certainly not adding it to the rotation.

The common red fox has led a good life in the wild for many years. However, in 2008, its existence was threatened by the introduction of a new pest species called the fleet foxes. These pests were hard to spot because anytime anybody saw one, they would say "wooaaahhhh" and the person who had sighted them would instantly feel bored and fall asleep. However, this story has a happy ending; after the invasion of 2008, the red fox has gone on to survive as the predominant species in the wild as the fleet foxes failed to find any more major success. Legend says the fleet foxes can still be heard every now and then, however, so unless you're looking to cure some insomnia, you better watch out.

indie folk is possibly one of the worst genres of music out there, but this album is pretty good for those standards 2.5/5

I remember in 2008, really hating this when I first heard it, along with the whole genre this represents. 18 years later, I still hate it.

Oh dear. I feel like I should have liked this. I like mandolins and nice harmonies (and Bruegel). Unfortunately, my sarcastic, flippant, Brit nature won and it just annoyed me. I really wish I could say it was a beautiful thing, but I wanted to do a Jarvis Cocker. Robin, go and swing your pants somewhere else. Meh.

Wouldn’t sound out of place in that weird hippy period of the mid/late 60s, only with better production. I wouldn’t listen to it again but it was…ok

I own this one but it’s not a favourite

I know the album, and it's OK

What is this? I don't really get it. I can't think of a time or a reason I would want to hear this again but I like the cover.

Not my favorite

A bit folky and not very memorable. Not for me this one.

Fleet Foxes' eponymous debut studio album is one of indie folk. This album received critical acclaim for its rich harmonies and beautiful instrumentation. Although this album is lauded as being one of the best albums of the decade, it leaves this listener with much to be desired. There is something off-putting about the band being formed in an affluent neighborhood in Seattle singing folk claiming inspiration in gospel traditions yet not being devout.

I want to like Fleet Foxes more, especially since they have a couple really beautiful songs like Sun It Rises. Unfortunately I always get tired of their schtick partway through

If the feeling of visiting a decent outdoor brewery on a fairly summer nice day can be encapsulated into song

Boring album not memorable at all skipped last 3 songs

This isn't my style. I see some talent. I liked the very first song a lot. Just background music for me though.

Kind of meh throughout, kind of annoying near the end.

Never been much of an FF fan, their individual tracks are fine but albums get far too repetitive. Bland 2000s indie sound, which is made all the more frustrating by the few times where they break the formula and it hits so well! Favorite track: Your Protector

Pleasant but hollow. It hits one note well, but that one note is the only note for the whole album. Halfway through I wanted to turn it out and listen to the more popular Mumford and Sons album or the catchier Local Natives first album with more interesting harmonies. That being said, it sure sounds like 2009 to me, which brings with it a certain amount of nostalgia. I surely listened to “White Winter Hymnal” approximately 1,000 times my first year of college.

Sucked

Heard of these guys, definitely not turned onto them. Very droney

Alt folk album. Not my jam, not terrible either. Feels like they had a solid formula for song creation, but did not stray too far away from it. A lot of the songs sound "samey".

Trim your beards and jump in the bin lads

Yawn! Maybe good music to sleep to

C'était pas mauvais, musicalement, c'est clairement bon mais c'est vraiment pas mon délire.

Meh? 2/5

Too choir-like

Too slow and folky for my taste

not my favourite, though has some good songs. kind of creepy, hard to work to due to the lyrics

Boring.

Never liked their US soft rock style

Not really my style but I get how other people would enjoy it

Objectively beautiful music, insanely tight harmonies to the point that they sound fake. But after a few songs it’s like, “that’s enough of that.” I appreciate the craftsmanship, but there’s zero excitement here. Folk can have energy, too. If you need to sleep, and you already took ambien and Xanax but they’re not working, this is the album for you.

Dull as dishwater. Although I would imagine dishwater to, actually, be quite interesting. All those Microbes and bacteria and so forth, happily living in your sink, just trying to get through the day. Perhaps they wonder "What if I had been born somewhere else, or something else?" Do microbes have existential crises? If they do, they would probably listen to this album. They would think "Man, I am glad I was born without ears"

Pretty folky

Can see how influential to the indie folk scene it was. Album itself doesnt seem to have a lot of variation to its sound.

Ugh, the "Hey - Ho" genre. I'm glad that there is somebody out there who enjoys this music. This version of American folk music has its place somewhere, but it drags me down. While I dont like it, i am continuing to hear influences and specific sounds that I do enjoy through doing this project.

A couple of engaging tunes but was bored by the sameness of the sound. Modern day Kingston Trio. Father John Mistys solo efforts are better.

After listening to that Lamar clown, a couples listen to this and it felt like a masterpiece. It wasn't but not offensive to the ears. Seems like most of the folk albums off this list are generally the same and I end up bored by the end. Not saying it was bad, but no lasting impression and nothing I care to revisit. But JFC, it wasn't modern day hip hop so it was a good day. I can't wait to go home a smoke a big ol bowl and listen to some decent music. 2

Is ok music, some songs I don’t really like and some are ok.

Liked it more than I thought I would, last two tracks v solid.

Boring

Not the vibe I was looking for yesterday

2.5/5 - A pleasant album and listening experience

Entirely forgettable

Kinda boring

The folk/pop blend is unique. Good instrumentation and vocals. Was difficult to distinguish one song from the next and no one song stood out. Was difficult to listen to the entire album.

Blue Ridge Mountains is the best track

Meh...Not my thing

Boring

Just not my cup of unfortunately but well produced and good musicianship

Church music with drums or My Morning Jacket without everything that makes them interesting. Your pick.

This is something that on paper I should like, at least a little. But I just find the boring outweighs the beauty.

The first song, "Sun It Rises", is good, but the rest are a little depressing.

Inoffensive just not to my taste

Not my favorite album. Favorite song was Your Protector. I also liked Oliver James. The vocals were strong on that one.

This album was okay. I don't know if I'll ever listen to it again, but I didn't turn it down or skip any songs. 🤣😂 😏

I’m sure somebody enjoys this kind of drab. Not I

blandly pleasant music to play in a "cool" clothing store

It was ok. Not something I would go back to.

found it a bit dull tbh

Crappy indie alt music. No thanks

Blind album, know the artist. No clue how these guys are popular and this album does not bring me joy. Snoozefest falling asleep. Dragged on. Not for me.

It's okay I guess. Not really memorable or something that is ahead of its time. Sounds really pious at times though.

Feels more... Folky, choiry or acoustic-y? Not really my thing if I'm being honest. Won't listen again.

Fleet Foxes? More like Cock Penis 5/10

Sometimes I was bobbing by head, but most of the time it's a no from me. Will I listen to again: 0%

lidt kedeligt tamburinen i alle numre minder mig for meget om julemusik 2/5 ok for genren :d

Released on Sub Pop in the US and Bella Union over here, what's not to like? Dug out my copy I bought a few years ago from a charity shop and gave it a proper listen. Not your 'normal' Sub Pop band, but I suppose times change. It was ok. Best debut album of all time? No. It drifted along in a pleasant enough way, nothing particularly stand out really. So gets a mid 2.

I get the appeal, and certainly appreciate the solid composition and songwriting. I lived through the post-folk period at the end of the 90's and early 2000's and I fell there was much more interesting artists making this kind of accessible but contemporary folk-ish sound back then. It's not bad music, jut not that interesting to me.

It was okay

Какие-то фолк запевы

This is just acoustic guitar and reverb. Folk music for suburbanites. Safe, shallow and utterly soulless. This spawned a million douchebags wearing flannel shirts carrying around the most expensive guitar daddy could afford wailing into microphones pretending to be deep and sensitive.

Nice voice, nice melodies, nice guitar. But overall unremarkable. This is an album that will probably go deep when the listener is in exactly the right mood.

I stopped paying attention after, I don't know, 3 songs? At least it wasn't as long as some other dull shit this project threw at me this week.

Not good

I've struggled to get for years and this listen was no exception. It's got a very lush soundscape with powerful orchestration but the thing is it's just so goddamn boring. I guess it's suppose to be tranquil but surface level nature imagery over folk adjacent indie rock isn't really coming off as sincere considering these boys are from Seattle. The album is inoffensive, it's fine background music but it's hard to engage or feel connected to it. By the end I was relived it was over. Rounding down to a 2

Not my style

eh. not horrible but not great either. i can see the talent, but there's no way i'm putting this on ANY of my playlists.

Välttävää parempi.

I thought I liked the Fleet Foxes, this was pretty boring though

1. zun it rizez - 1.5 2. uuhite uuinter hymnal - 1 3. ragged uuood - 1.5 4. tiger mountain peazant - 2 5. quiet houzez - 1.5 6. he doeznt knouu uuhy - 1.5 7. heard them ztirring - 1.5 8. your protector - 2 9. meadouularkz - 1.5 10. blue ridge mountainz - 1.5 11. oliver jamez - 1

The ho-hum spark igniting the “Ho Hey” powder keg explosion of the 2010s’ insufferable indie folk “revival.”

Ruhe, ländlich/folk, Reise-Vibes, melodisch, good feelings Nicht so mein Geschmack, aber gut zum entspannen.

# 68 : When I first put this on I instantly thought that's a 2 star record, then I checked the reviews and saw the hundreds of 5 star reviews and I thought, I have to listen again, I must be missing something, but alas no, 2 Star. I Love the album artwork but The band itself is lukewarm. The album is not awful but it's not good either making me skip a few tracks to get on with it. White Winter Himnal

I mean it’s a pleasant listen but not particularly compelling or memorable

A very boring album for me. Don't think I actually can remember one song from this, because it just had nothing memorable and everything sounded the same.

I love the music but the production ends up sounding all the same to me, just a blur...

The music is good as a background, simply because all the songs blend together. I can't really highlight any specific songs on the album but I wouldn't be mad if I was stuck on the phone and this was the hold music.

All sounded a bit samey, not my vibes

'Fleet Foxes' sound like every other indie rock/folk band from the late 2000s. Their self titled debut is pleasant enough and atmospheric, but yeh, whatever.

Didn't really enjoy this one. Felt a little messy. Maybe was in the wrong headspace.

didn’t like folk vibes

I was bored during this entire album

2/5 Best: White Winter Hymnal Worst: Quiet Houses

Not my thing, found it boring and naff. Not really rock, not really folk, not really anything I wanted to listen to

Fine but got to be in an alternative mind set, mellow.

My initial impressions were pleasant but now not so much. The band relies to heavily on reverb and echo along with "indie guy" vocals. I can see the appeal but I also see grinding boredom.

Très ordinaire

inoffensive indie, but not feeling it

Niet mijn ding

Zou dit nooit meer opzetten, maar vond de insteek wel geinig

I listened to this A LOT when it came out, trying to figure out what other people liked about it that I was missing. Never figured that out, and for a while there I kinda hated Fleet Foxes. Years later, my opinion has mellowed somewhat, but... I still think this is pretty bland lowest-common-denominator type stuff though, especially compared to some other indie folk I could mention. Feels like eating cotton candy kinda: Sweet and airy with no actual substance. Inoffensive, nice on the ears, and pretty darn uninteresting to me. 2.5 rounded down.

Decent

Prefer Helplessness Blues. Mind just switched off for most of this

Not really my genre. I can see it as background music in a movie scene or a hip hop sample. Idk.

Love the Bruegel cover but the music did absolutely nothing for me. Wasn’t completely horrible though.

I usually like this style of music. Not today. I'm not impressed.

Just bored me.

I thought the first song sounded nice, but the rest of the album is just not my type of music at all. I’m not much of an indie pop folk enthusiast.

Pretty, wistful, and woefully, utterly boring.

Not my kind of type

Snoozefest of the highest degree.

New year, same distorted feet. Anyway, indie is reputationally the home of the wimp. Are you an adolescent male bored by football, be it soccer or American football, and in possession of the upper body strength of Shirley Temple? Why not make your nest in the softest genre of all? Nobody will mock your underdeveloped chest and maintained-throughout-adolescence bedwetting in the all-accepting indie gang (well, they probably will still mock you, since people are arseholes, but you’ll find plenty to mock them back with, and they’ll be too soft to kick your head in anyway). That said and rather strangely, proper jocks, rugger buggers and other sporting males can be devoted fans of your Take Thats and your N-Syncs without inviting jeer. I guess being hard means you need seek no excuses, and you need develop no taste. However, there is a strand of indie that asserts its hardness. This is that peculiarly British strand of indie where pissed-up lads into footie also like coruscating guitar lines and lyrical cleverness/quirkiness. Descendants of punk and the rockier 60s bands (Who, Stones etcetry etcetry), bands like the Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and Oasis (all Manc) offered indie with a promise of a ruck. And if you want a reason why hard indie emanated in the UK and not the USA, it may well be the sporting differences between the two countries. The big 4 sports in America all stipulate exacting male body types: real big, real tall, presumably able to fill the whole toilet bowl in one sitting. Football, by which I irritatingly have to indicate that I mean soccer, has no specific body type. Maradona was a stocky 1.65 m, Pelé was a slighter 1.73 m, and Messi is exactly inbetween at 1.69 m. As such, football (soccer) lacks many of the physical determinants of more American sports. So, your shortarse teen into Blur may well still be on the school football B team, and from this unlikely union betwixt the football (soccer) fan and the indie fan springs hard indie. Your American teenage indie boy has no such avenue to escape the wedgies and develop some resilience, and contents himself with soft indie and the luxury of a mildly tortured emotion (but only mildly, for this is soft indie). Fleet Foxes could be the polar opposite to hard indie. This is indie at its very softest, indie with a Mohs scale rating of talc. At the time they released this, their debut album, they described themselves as “not much of a rock band.” No, they weren’t. They were the perfect example of American soft indie. And this unadulterated concentration, this Platonic form of soft indie reveals to us all the merits and shortcomings of soft indie. The most prominent and immediate aspect to the album that the listener notices is how central the harmonies are to it. This band loves their harmonies as much as they presumably love identifying with Holden Caulfield. And the idea of this technical intricacy should be impressive, and every listener can construct in their head the line of reasoning which concludes that they should find Fleet Foxes’ harmonies impressive. But the harmonies just won’t impress the listener, for one simple and vicious reason: no memorable melodies. I have listened to this album several times over this past week, and only now can I vaguely recall a snippet of a melody from it. And I’ve just put on a different band, and thus even that snippet has now fled my head. This lack of melodic strength, especially when contrasted with the all the harmony, almost feels like a cruelty, as if they’re teasing us with its absence in the manner of a kidnapper sending the family his victim’s little finger. Still, they do have all that harmony, and none of the album sounds bad at all. But it has that awful bugbear, a slavishness to good taste. Yes, with all that harmony, one recognises the band bowing down towards the Beach Boys and CSNY. Along with this, they have the good taste to borrow, not steal, from the most credible British folk (Nick Drake and Fairport Convention, rather than anything involving a bagpipe or forty verses about the death of the village’s fletching industry). The result is that nothing on the album has enough sharpness to lodge in the memory. I can’t tell you a single lyric, or hum you a single tune. By way of contrast, I just had a look at the bottom 20 albums, and could fair hum tunes from over half. I was inclined to give this three stars, but what will that teach us? That it’s acceptable to aim for just being acceptable? Next time, Fleet Foxes, give me more. Two stars, to make an example of you. And remember that, although your girlfriend may like your softness when, say, first meeting her parents, there are some areas where she will definitely prefer you hard. NoRadio, signing off.

It’s called alternative, but feels more folksy, like a cousin of Mumford and Sons. It’s the kind of music you love having in the background, but can’t ever remember the songs. Like some medieval troubadour playing whimsical music as the album cover sort of alludes.

This sounds like hymnals written by people who love the smell of their own farts and never wear shoes, even in the snow. I don’t like hymnals, hate the smell of my farts, and have been known to wear shoes to bed. Therefore, it is not for me.

- generic 2010s indie folk rock, peak hipster cafe vibes - thank god this genre has fallen out of popularity stand outs: white winter hymnal

This is close. This is close to something I'd like. It doesn't sound bad. But it also doesn't sound great. The tunes are inoffensive. The whole thing is a little beige.

I'd rather just listen to My Morning Jacket.

Sounds a bit like something you'd hear at a church gathering.

I feel like I should like Fleet Foxes, lots of crossover with bands I do like, and yet somehow I've never been able to get on with their songs 😵‍💫

Nice calm music.

noiosetto

Not necessarily bad, but couldn't discern much difference in any of the songs. Wouldn't say I enjoyed it. Wouldn't bother to listen to it again.

A Pitchfork special. Tyler will give this 5 stars. Standard "folk revival" stuff where we overproduce and always have somebody noodling high up the neck of a telecaster. Nothing overly offensive here, but nothing actually new, innovative, or super interesting. If Tyler put this on I'd survive and just hope he grew a pair and put on Weld. These guys cosplay medieval European peasants. It's fine, overall. Closer to a 3 than a 2. But I round down. Worked with Kanye verifies a 2.

Borde egentligen tycka om det här men det är inte särskilt kul. Velar mellan tvåa eller trea. Bestämmer mig imorgon.

Tuesday, behind on work, destroyed at kickball, but good vibes, kinda tired

Ehhh, too many college vibes, I feel besides winter hymnal it’s too bland

pleasant enough listen, but one of the best 1000 albums ever made?

The perfect accompaniment to watching paint dry

Ei ole mua varten. Liian indiehipsuttelua.

The constantly harmonised and reverb-soaked vocals do my head in. In addition the music is bland without any real personality.

This album is so forgettable, I truly fail to comprehend why it’s included here.

Folky, with interesting harmonies. Inconsistent quality. Kinda meh.

Not bad but it's hard to say is one of the 1001...

A little too much whining. Nit comfortable to listen to.

2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 :)

Is there talent here? Yes. Do I want to listen to more of their music? Nope.

Boring & unoriginal.

was not in the mood for this. Did not enjoy this. Glad when this was over.

I guess they are their generation's Turin Brakes? But more English: they sound uncanny and unsettling to me, they make me think of The Wicker Man even though I've never seen that film.

that's how my depression sounds like

The Beach Boys maakten het iniedergeval wat vrolijker

Have never really enjoyed Fleet Foxes. I've always found it a bit boring. Though, now that I'm turning into an old man, I don't mind it as much.

Very relaxing album, gave me a lot of Mumford and sons vibes. Not bad just not my normal cup of tea.

Keep my BRUEGEL off your FUCKING album cover!

Not my style at all. Didn’t really enjoy the album, couldn’t listen all the way through. 4/10

This isn't my favorite style of music. I've tried to get into them several times in the past and it's just.. meh.

Boring

Przeleciało bez większego wow. Miało parę przyjemniejszych utworów, ale chyba koncept był fajniejszy niż samo wykonanie niestety...

Хз, но было некомфортно

I mean, I love reverb as much as the next man, but there's sometimes too much of a good thing.

This starts off pretty strong with some Crosby, Stills, and Nash vibes. The vocal melodies remain impressive into the second track, but the band settles into the whoa-oh BS that ruined folksy indie rock. The third song is more of the same. This is a band I've avoided for years because this is exactly what I've expected from them. The vocal harmonies are a pleasant surprise, but twee instrumentation that's just made for a commercial for some tech company that promises to bring people closer together is so, so, so cringey. I know this technically predates the 2010s, but this is the sound we will remember when we look back on the 2010s, and not in a good way. Much like how the entire decade of the 2000s will be summarized by ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL and shutter sunglasses, the 2010s will be this sound and the lumbersexual look.

I listened to this a few times when it came out and it didn't grab me. Some nice harmonies but it still doesn't do much for me

This is fine. A couple of stand out songs, but I’ve never seen what the fuss is about.

This was a really boring one. It had some parts that were pleasant background music, but really never much more than that.

the biggest beef i have with this album is that it was the precursor to so much more folk toss. we'd managed to fuck off folk music around the 70s so it's mad it took 40 years and a new wave of rustic adverts to bring it back. i get the feeling that this wasn't supposed to be an album that more than 10 people listened to, made by a bunch of choristers who found out about guitars when their balls dropped. pretty sure i just described myself there. falls into the category of it's well done but i don't like listening to it.

White Winter Hymnal is a nice song but this is a bit whimsical and lacking in edge for me

boring

More folk. I had basically the same thing yesterday. It all just blends together into a forgettable glob of acoustic guitar. Enjoyed it slightly more than yesterday's Joan Armatrading, but please give me an actual face-melter obliteration hyper mega-satan metal tomorrow. I don't even like metal but please, I need something more exciting.

Bland.

fries the whole herring for the sake of the roe

I remember liking this album when it came out and still enjoyed the harmonies of it all but there is a reason I have not listened to it in the last decade. Just too slow for me.

I wouldn't listen to it again

There's something contrary about leaving one of the best songs of the 21st century (Mykonos) off your debut album. I've really worked at this album over the years. But, I'm sorry to report, there's much less to it than meets the eye.

Cute little folksy vibe. Like the Lumineers or Mumford and Sons. Not my style, but it wasn't bad.

I don't love folk music 😅

Fleet Foxes are a band I think I should like but have never really managed to get into, aside from a few songs here and there. It's clearly a cohesive debut album and nice enough, but I found it pretty bland and not very memorable. Maybe it would reward further listens? 2.5.

Rarely gets interesting enough for me to want to keep listening. They spend so much time crafting these meticulous arrangements for what are really incredibly boring songs

Yep… just as boring when I first heard it back in 2008 or 2009.

A few big songs. Wouldn't come back to it.

Wanted to like this one but it didn't click. No bad songs but nine that are sticking with me. Can't name a song I listened to. This would be a band I'd probably love to see live but probably not listen to an album.

Creo que lo único que puedo decir es que está "bueno pero aburridón"

ok but pretty meh, have tried before

Pretty dull!

Originally going by the name "The Pineapples", a name clash with another local band prompted a change…” I wonder if this clash came to blows. I also wonder what the OG Pineapples are up to.

Decent folk album, great vocals, very minimal instruments and lack of innovation. The production is great also, but I only liked the song White Winter Hymnal.

not my thing but learned where the sample from Hell of a Night by Travis Scott came from so worth it.

Not for me

I’ve actually never heard one of their albums before. Not bad, but it seems like every one of these songs have been used in an ad that include the words ‘In these unprecedented times…’ or ‘We will get through this together..’ - Won’t be added to the library.

Boring

Music for Subaru commercials. Bit of a snoozefest. Some poignant moments but lots of lags. Started liking some songs and realized that Spotify went on a similar artist shuffle, so yeah no need to ever hear this album again.

I quite enjoyed it but found it almost entirely instantly forgettable. Your Protector perhaps the only track that stood out to me and for a 40min album it really felt like a drag to get through. Realistically I can’t see myself going back to this, even in parts. So that’s a 2/5 in my book.

Remind me oddly a little of Fairport Convention. But if they got Jack White to play along.

I'm not a fan of folk in general.

was okay, bit atmospheric and bland in places

OK but not one of top 1001

not my thing

Booooooooooring

Not my kind of music - was a struggle to listen through

If you close your eyes, there's a lot of Dylan in it. But doesn't have the impact.

Mir zu folky

Just not for me.

annoying..

SO not for me

Folkly

Cheesy commerical Music, christmas commercial music

it's so mellow man.

Quiet beautiful, but a bit to airy for me when I try to sit through the full album.

I never understood the appeal. Better than Mumford and Sons I guess?

A couple of good tracks but a bit dreary overall

This is gonna be hipster shit hey. Aaaaand yep it's some modern folk crap, a hipster's dream. Fuck this. 2/5.

Bad news good news. Bad news is that I still don't like indie psychedelic rock. The good news is this isn't a function of my age. I never have. I'm happier sitting in silence than listening to this.

The little bit I've encountered of this band had me keeping my project paused for almost a week. I'm not looking forward to this one. Let's see if they prove me wrong. Two songs in and it's not going well. They sound like a mashup between the godawful retreats they made us go to in Catholic high school and a bunch of Ren Faire types. Not the OG Ren Faires but the modern corporate "Fantasy" Faires. Like they took an already enshittified experience as their starting point. I suppose it doesn't help that I don't care for their voices. I get that they're good singers and really know their harmony but damn, the tonality and timbre of those voices really hurts my ear. Drenching it in reverb is just the moldy icing on the shit cake. Fuck this. Listened to the whole first song and then began skipping the next ones successively sooner than the one before it. Hit the first three seconds of track #7 and noped out of the rest of the album. I can see there's a lot of talent and skill on display here, too bad it's in the service of sounds that make my skin crawl.

Quite boring. Only a few songs got my attention. Not my kind of music.

God awful pap.

insoportable

didn't earn the cover

this album and I go way back. my art instructor would play this during lessons fairly often, it was a staple alongside Kid A and Illinois. for the first like, 5 times i heard this i thought it was a shitty local Appalachian hipster band. that says a lot doesn't it? i can't stand the vocals. i can't stand Oliver James. it's so... proto stomp clap hey. and it's not their fault for inspiring worse music, but if someone hated Pearl Jam for being the genesis of all the Creeds and Nickelbacks out there, I could not argue against that. deserves to be one of the 1001? it certainly does. doesn't mean i have to be happy about it!!

A great album to cure insomnia.

Trevor likes it. Gives it a 5 star.

I remember when this album dropped and Pitchfork and the burgeoning music blogs all collectively loved it. I didn’t get it then. Still don’t get it. I promise I’m trying.

That sucked! Just a very boring and lethargic album.

Another soft boring ass album

Maybe I don’t like insie folk that much.

Not my kind of "music".

I think I probably have a copy of this but I couldn’t remember what it sounded like and having listened I didn’t like it, one star. Tom.

this was so boring and lame

No me gustó

Good for a renaissance fair

While I grew up on this era of American folk rock, and have many artists I still listen to today, I had never really listened to Fleet Foxes before. I now know why. Boring, meandering, with not enough meat on the bone or interesting moments to be of any interest. If you want to get into this era of Mainstream folk rock, The Avett Brothers and The Decembrists. Are much better places to start. Highlights here is Blue Mountain Ridge, i.e. the only song I would choose to listen to again.

ASS, I HATE THE BIRD GUY

This one came with glowing reviews, so I was expecting a bit of a gem. Instead I had to wait until the fourth track before hearing anything that felt like genuinely convincing songwriting. The lyrics are supposed to be inspired too… but I really don’t hear it. In the end only a handful of songs feel reasonably listenable to me. Pretty disappointing, especially since I was honestly hoping this might finally be the folk record that would win me over.

Más folk rock. Misma cagada, diferente color. Cuando escucho esto, solo me puedo imaginar a un bastardo vegano que se cree un elfo mágico, habla con duendes de plástico y tiene hadas en frascos. Lo odio.

Its a good album. But it's nothing new, or that you haven't heard from folk bands in the 60s. All the songs, do tend to blend into eachother. Its a easy, relaxing album to listen to, and I did enjoy it. But even the praise it gets feels a bit overblown. The album goes by quickly, but not in a good way, just seems to pass you by without leaving any type of impact. I know I have been knocking this album, and as it is for me to critique the album, when I can barely play two chords on a guitar. But the high praise it gets, I don't get. It's a good album; that's the height of it, I could listen to it again straight after, and it would be like listening to it again for the first time, as none of the songs left any impression on me. Its a album, for what people think folk music is! I'd say there are many musicians out there today, I can hear influences from, as they are so plain and afraid to take any risks with the songwriting or music. Just play it safe and know it will be played in a coffee shop, or some wanna be indie director will have a song in mind when writing a scene that has been done to death, and while they are travelling through mid America, while he thinks of the pixie dream girl he or she misses... But that's just my thoughts.

millennials trapped in an echo chamber

If Coldplay meets Folk Music

Please don't send me to listening group jail but I am very much not at all fond of the whole 2000s/10s twee and quaint wide-brim-hat-core indie folk thing. Unfortunately, Spotify seems to think it aligns with my general taste, so it routinely throws it into my playlists. The upside is that I have developed Spider-Man-like reflexes over the years in order to hit the Skip button as quickly as possible when I hear " I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOOOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWWWING THE I WAS FOLLOOOOWING THE I WAS FOOOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOOOLLLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE IWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEIWASFOLLOWINGTHEI WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING FOLLOWING FOLL I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE I WAS FOLLOWING THE" I hate that song.

not my cup of tea

Just a bit dull

meowy my baby

Not for me

boring

Nope. Too twee, too banjo for my liking.

I bought this thinking it was something else and hated it. So it’s going to get a bitter bias rating. Very dull

Not my choice

Some kind of nursery rhyme songs.

Good sounding album. Just boring.

Never really understood the hype for this album. It just doesn't work for me.

I am from Seattle, from which this band hails, and I have never heard of them. To me, this is over-produced indie folk pop and I feel like folk music should be more authentic and raw. What can I say - this just doesn’t speak to me.

Wannabe Beatles but 40 years too late This is just the most boring, generic album I have heard in a long time. Zzzz. I felt actual relief when this album finally finished.

Nicht meins.

It’s just ok at best. I definitely don’t see what all the fuss is about. Some of it is alright for a rainy day, other parts are really not my jam. It’s not really “stomp, clap, hey” but it’s in that same vein.

Poor man's Mumford & Sons.

First song was reminiscent of CS&N. Second one is giving a Beach Boys vibe. I’m hoping to hear something beyond the obvious influences. The whole folk “stomp clap yeah” genre is admittedly not my favorite. There’s not a lot to sink your teeth into, it’s blandly mellow. I suppose it’s a good thing to put on if you wanna take a nap. Background music.

The music was too slow for me. Nice acoustic guitar through the album, but not a fan.

chill indie rock

Mediocre. All the songs blended into eachother

This album is absolute pony, never understood the hype at the time and still don't. Reverb drenched warbling over lazy folk instrumentals, I don't any song in this album stood out as a great listen. Very background listening, so much I zoned out. 1/5

Jesus cult chants from deep within a cave.

Oh. More "indie" (TM) music that is backing music for crappy dramas and rom-coms. I bet these guys unironically ironically have mustaches, odd tattoos, and wear silly vests and ugly shoes. They probably also talk about bespoke man-bags and belts. Ugh, I hate music like this. I would give it a zero if I could. Also, why does it not surprise me these dingleberries are from Seattle?

No band better captures the cheerily anthemic yet hollow, soulless and ultimately ineffectual optimism of the entire Obama-era than Fleet Foxes. The sound of a millennial playing a mandolin makes me want to kill myself.

There's 39 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Not for me.

Incredibly mediocre!

Klingt als wäre es in den 60er geschrieben worden, aber modern produziert. Nich mein Fall

Sleepy folksy (skip skip no thanks)

This is background music. Fairly underwhelming and boring.

Beyond the album cover nothing remarkable, could be used only as background music while you straighten your hair

boring hipster shit

I don’t really find this album entertaining. It’s underwhelming and boring, they seem to know nothing but repetition.
