Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Right so really tried with this one, didn't hate it but idk the vocals were fine and instrumentals were ok but man some of the songs just felt shitty to listen to. Like it just uncomfortable like someone made like an ok song but then added some harsh vocals and instrumentals here and there. Not great, not for me. 2/5.

Just can't seem to get into Sonic Youth - I just find their records quite boring

Chronic Doof

Nah... Not really for me. I haven't heard any interesting things in there.

Not particularly fun to listen to

My previous opinion applies; overrated and pretentious. Not impressed. But I’ll give it 2 stars for the angsty adolescent vibe.

Kind of bland. Easy forgettable.

I must be old because this was just angry noise.

Just not for me.

sonic youth’s sound appears to be very experimental. the first half was better to me.

Not to my taste, just sounded like a load of noise, with a bit of cool

It's just the Grateful Dead in plaid.

Too abrasive for me, low 2

tbh wasn’t in the best headspace while listening but i don’t think it was great either way

Last time we had a Sonic Youth record I said "I'd just thought they were a bit too sludge and scuzz to appeal to me", but I guess that one was the exception to the rule because what we had before that is basically what Sister is, which is nondescript noise rock that doesn't do anything to excite or innovate or deserve to be here. A weary 2.

This is not the worst of the many Sonic Youth albums we've had, which isn't saying much. They're better when they're more tuneful, does lapse into noise too often, doesn't really do enough to get beyond a 2.

Could not be bothered with this today and quite frankly found the record a bit tiresome. I'll try again some other time but for now it's a poor score

You know that confused madness you feel in your brain when you suddenly find yourself boxed in, on a multilane highway with no exit ramp bailout anywhere in sight and all that lies before you is a sea of brake lights with some cars frantically trying to change lanes to break free but no one is really getting anywhere? That is one long sentence, but if I had to attach a soundtrack to describe that feeling, this would be it. I realize I should probably appreciate this more for some reason, but it’s just a little too abstract and gritty for my taste.

I’m starting to think I’m not cool enough to like Sonic Youth… 2.5/5

Over the years I've only enjoyed exactly one Sonic Youth track, "Titanium Expose" and can bear the rest from the album that it comes from, GOO. Unfortunately, this album did not change that perception. Still feels like a bunch of half-baked ideas lyrically and musically that are not really going anywhere.

The first couple of songs are interesting in ‘Schizophrenia’ and ‘Catholic Block’, but from there a lot of the rest of ‘Sister’ kind of just becomes a blur of noise. Some songs in isolation would probably stand out more, like ‘Pacific Coast Highway’ and punk cover ‘Hot Wire My Heart’, but overall, I’m neither here nor there with this. I probably will never listen to it again.

Okayish

For the most part this isn't for me. However, there are one or two I was surprised I liked.

Sounds like a convulsion Fav songs:tuff garnl =,

Went through all the tracks, but didn't find any of em particularly interesting. Found myself getting bored. Not for me. 2 star

Meh, not my favourite. Just doesn’t jive with me at all. Puts me on edge.

So much of it is just... noise

I didn’t hate this, but I still don’t find much appeal in Sonic Youth.

So much fuzz. Not a fan. 2.3.

I don't know this doesn't do much for me.

Just didn't dig this. Hard to hear the vocals and music is mainly just dijointed noise.

Not their best work but I can see where they were headed with this one and it’s much better than most other American music being made in 1987. 2.5

Another one by Noisy Youth .... Sonic Noise, ahm, Sonic Youth, who I find highly overrated. It's not a total disaster, but a minor one. 1.5/5

Very experimental, which I respect, but it's not really my thing

Grungy and noisy, definitely a precursor to things that came soon after with Nirvana, PJ, and Soundgarden. Sadly, everything is samey. Two heavily distorted chords to start the song with sometimes sort of a riff. Mumbles and low falsetto lyrics. It’s sort of cool and sort of boring. I almost feel like I could join the band, crank up a fuzz pedal and make it up as I go.

Meh, a little jangly noisy discordant for my tastes

Sekavahkoa

Strong start but lost me pretty quickly. The album feels like it kept a lot of noise on the later tracks that just got in the way for me.

I can appreciate what Sonic Youth did for music in the 90s, but it still doesn't mean I like them.

This album really had potential, and oh boy they didn't use it well. The vocals are really good, and the songwriting is really good. That's honestly all I can say. Everything else was awful. Each song is so messy and incoherent, and the production and mixing is next to none. These are clearly talented artists who know what they are doing, but this album just isn't it.

I don’t really like this.

This is the fourth Sonic Youth album we've gotten, and yep, not a fan.

Did not enjoy this as much as Daydream Nation. Found this to be more annoying with all the seemingly random noise. Highlights: Schizophrenia Hot Wire My Heart

Thurston Less.

like Wile E Coyote running off a cliff, Sonic Youth, oblivious to how shit they are

It's okay. There are always plenty of twisted, screeching, unpredictable guitar sounds on their albums - so much so that it's all quite predictable. This is no Experimental Jet Set Trash or Daydream Nation. I guess it's a statement and has historical context.

I'm not an angry adolescent anymore. Not sure I would have even gotten into this back then.

I didn't like the album

Not my style. Kind of a grunge/alt mix but I can't imagine ever being in the mood.

Ah no no no. I can tell that the guitar work is super impressive. I do like Kim Gordon's vocals and there are elements of all Sonic Youth albums that I do find that I like in there, this one included. However, the last track is an absolute joke, it just sounds like screamo and I can't pick out the skill in it and I don't like it at all. It's just busy and stressful and not artful in my opinion. The few Sonic Youth tracks I do like aren't on this album.

Annoying

I put this in the category of music that is more fun to make than to listen to.

Scuffed

didnt really care. couldve been a 3 if it was an instrumental album

I'm not sure I'll ever understand the appeal of experimental art-rock or post-punk. Too noisy and dissonant and lacks rhythm too much of the time.

Good bad, terrible singers

Pretty good actually 3 Thought I'd had enough of sonic youth though. 2

Two and a half if I had the option. Fine but didn't do anything for me.

Really not my thing at all. It rarely got better than "just about bearable". I did make it all the way through the full album, and I am still alive, so for that it gets my standard 2 stars!

Thought i would like this more than i did. I think it's more the production but it just grated on me by the time the album was over.

Makes me realize I can tolerate a lot of different types of guitar playing as long as it’s not too slow. By far the most noise pop-sounding record I’ve ever heard and like with Public Image Ltd, it’s so different for me I can lean into it a little and come close to enjoying it. White Cross sounds a lot 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins, which led me down a rabbithole where Reddit Smashing Pumpkins fans claim Billy Corgan admitted he was inspired by Sonic Youth when writing “1979”. Punk fans can be very passionate. 3/10

One or two ok at best songs. Most of the songs quickly devolve into random noise and reverb with no structure. Closer to 1 star than 3.

Eh, no thanks I guess! I find I don't connect strongly with the "wall of noise" style of 80s underground rock. I hope to appreciate what cultural phenomena led to these stylistic choices, but I prefer my frustration to be expressed musically in other ways, I suppose!

Noisy and often grating, but a few good moments

Rubbish mostly.

just not me

Overly indulgent guitar endings. Fast finished.

Bastante pfff

I don't know, it's too much noise somehow

Dull, basic, unmemorable

Not really my thing. I did like some of the more melodic moments, but I think they’re quite sparse for this band? This is, something.. 4 out of 10

Just another Sonic Youth album to me. I never really understood the appeal.

Thought the album got off to a decent start with Schizophrenia and Catholic Block, but quickly turned into a mess of a bunch of noise. It was like they tried way too hard to came off as punk and missed the point. But is there really a point to most punk rock? But at least the punk I listen to have some great tunes. This album did not. There was one line that stood out though. In Stereo Sanctity, he says everyone is dead and he's not getting laid. I don't know, I just kinda laughed to myself for some reason. If the world made getting laid their top priority, this place would be a lot nicer. So let's all get laid this weekend! 2

Not sure why I was under the impression that these guys were more way more punk like Agent Orange or Dead Kennedys but I was. Turns out they're way more shoegaze/post punk. This style is still not really my thing and even though this album had a little something else, I don't think I'll be listening to this again. 2

Very slow, quiet, hypnotic punk

strano e noioso

Less developed than later albums and while it's cool what it did for noise rock in general, I find it to not be particularly engaging or pleasant to listen to.

Noisy, messy, unnecessary.

Not at all for me.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Hot Wire My Heart (8) 2 - Catholic Block (2) 3 - Pipline/Kill Time (5)

Dug the song Stero Sanctity, rest was alright.

awful....

Music is not bad. I really hate the sound of the singer...

As I've said on the last Sonic Youth album: Not my cup of tea. Bit too noisy

Did these guys ever consider writing a tune? That people can whistle, maybe tap their foot along to? I'm being facetious, but I simply don't get the appeal of this. White noise, but not in any kind of calming sense.

very rough, garage rock

I don't get it.

The second Sonic Youth album generated and I wasn't impressed with the first one. This one was the same. I've got no issues with the experimental approach, it's just that it lacks any type of feeling and just drags on.

Better that their other albums

Thank fuck that's over. Sonic Youth are an "experimental rock" group that are said to have been important in the formation of the indie rock genre. There is definately some experimentation going on here with punk sounds, distortion, sampling, and just straight up noise. Sonic Youth was known to push the envelope. Even the way they tuned their guitars was weird. I don't know, I like my music to have a distinct rhythm and direction. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but this is just chaos on tape. To me it seems like each band member recorded their parts alone, then they just glued them together, and didn't check to see if they meshed or not, they just said "fuck it, good enough". This is apparently the album where they found their sound..... What sound? Nails on a chalkboard? I'm all for experimentation, because without it, we would never have advanced and achieved all of the great things in music that we have, but this is just from another planet altogether. Overall, not much as far as redeeming qualities to this dumpster fire. I know there are other Sonic Youth albums on this generator and I am not looking forward to them. Favourite songs: (I Got A) Catholic Block, Schizophrenia Least favourite songs: Pipeline/Kill Time, Stereo Sanctity, Tuff Gnarl, Pacific Coast Highway, Kotton Krown.... It's all just noise..... 2/5

I'm not afraid to lose cool-points. I'll admit it. I don't like Sonic Youth. It's jangly and annoying and I couldn't even make it through a 3rd song.

Rock alternativo bastante tostón. Un 2.

Shoot me.

A little too punk for me

Sonic Youth disappoints again

The fourth Sonic Youth album on this list. It's the same as the others and I've run out of things to say about them. Surely the author could have picked just one and freed up room for some of the more notable, interesting and enjoyable omissions? Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Schizophrenia Date listened: 21/01/23

This is the second Sonic Youth album that I’ve gotten. This is less commercial than Goo, and it just sounds too miserable to listen to.

Lot of noise, but nothing much I really like. It was good to hear their output before their big hits, but don't need to again. There were a few songs I enjoyed but prefer their output from Daydream Nation and beyond.

This really isn't a genre I enjoy listening to but I found myself not minding it the first few songs with the songwriting and variety. However the second half of the album really declined for me and I started actively disliking it - the vocals shifted and it became more "noisy"

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY PEOPLE LIKE SONIC YOUTH!!!! It's just annoying sounds that make me angry that I'm wasting my time listening to it.

A bit grungy, nothing that really spoke to me

Not bad at all. Just didn’t get pulled in on much. One song stood out, White Cross. Album is a 2.

Too angsty and not flowy enough for my liking.

Ehhh started ok then not to my taste

All over the place

Yeh, meh - nothing stood out here

Kinda meh - not my type of music

Not the worst Sonic Youth album we had to listen to so far, but still pretty bad. Too punkish, too jarring, too annoying.

Not a huge fan of this album, songs were forgettable and at times skippable. And nirvana did the naked boy better on the cover.

Enough of this band!

Just past the one-third mark in this project and I've heard so many amazing artists. There are also lots of amazing artists I have yet to hear from. And this is the third album by Sonic Youth I've had to listen to. I don't question their place in this list, but I do question three albums from a three year period, especially when I don't detect anything distinctive about one from the other (the others being EVOL and Daydream Nation). Pick one, and let's make room for someone else. Unpleasant sound as an art form. I get it. I got it. Next!

Thank you, no. The album did not jive with me.

Really? Sonic Youth again? I still am not getting it.

I listened to this three times today, and each time grew more and more irritated with it. I’m not sure why I had more trouble listening to this than the previous two Sonic Youth albums (E.V.O.L. and Daydream Nation), but I fear any further listens to figure it out will only further lower my opinion. Noisy. Irritating. Not for me.

Ehh it was aight music wise. Wish the vocals weren’t so drowned out

There were parts of just about every song that I liked. Very small parts though. Mostly unlikeable.

Not that big a fan of Sonic Youth's music and this album didn't really change my opinion. 4/10.

Didn’t find this album all that special. Felt like a sub par alternative or grunge band. Their songs didn’t seem to be strong enough for a good harder rock album but it was also too chaotic for a good alternative album. Feel like their singing style is just droning with occasional anger. Not great. 4.4/10

didnt click i think? painful

Liked it a little, but not a lot

chiant

Not for me - too noisy and scuzzy.

Not for me.

not a fan of sonic youth idk

2, enjoyed the first half more, didn't like enough of it for a 3

Didn’t really enjoy it, feel like I have a love hate relationship with sonic youth sometimes 4/10

Not my type

Well that was disappointing. Just noise.

Listened to this earlier today and I do believe that I have forgotten every single last thing about it. It can't have been objectionable, but it sure wasn't memorable.

Yeah way too noisy for me to enjoy

First song, solid. The rest had their moments of pure WTF. 2.5

it’s one fat mass. i like the vibes but not easy to listen to. might listen again

On the face of it this is just dissonant noise and comes across as messy. I suspect repeated listening would uncover something deeper. Unlikely to go there.

Rock alternativo. Punk. Extraño.

Not the time for this one

Rock alternativo bastante tostón.

This album exemplifies Sonic Youth's barrage of nervous, negative energy, and I don’t like it. There were moments that I liked, but those moments were fewer than I hoped.

WHY IS THERE ANOTHER SONIC YOUTH ALBUM ON THIS LIST?!?! This band is atrocious. Just noise disguised as "music."

Over rated racket.

A couple of songs started like they were gonna be good and then shat themselves.

Garage band performance art. Not as annoying as Daydream Nation but somehow still worse.

Second sonic youth in three days. Did not enjoy this album

Starts with that one good song then it's a bit meh

The first two songs are nice, the rest is noisy - the annoying type of noisy :(

Better than dirty but still wouldn't recommend this band to anyone.

I’ve heard of the band but I just thought the album was average nothing that brings me back to listen more than once

Once again, not my bag. I can understand the cultural importance of Sonic Youth but can't say I'll be returning to their music any time soon.

Sister is not with out its moments - white cross for example- but in general the whole album sound like the noise the instrument continues to make once a band have dropped them on the floor and walked offstage. The effort Sonic Youth put into playing badly is almost admirable, and I see what they’re doing with the whole bleak, disenchanted thing, but it’s just not for me. All the best though.

Same old same old - another sonic youth album that left me cold and unconvinced what the fuss is

Just okay.

All just kinda ran together and wasn't super compelling. Little disappointed - was looking forward to this after reading the wikipedia

Nah. Why so much shouting?

It’s alright

not a big fan

Not really my thing. Quite dreary.

Not a fan

Zu viel Lärm, zu wenig Abwechslung

This album is all over the place. Some of it I’d consider decent, if a little bit clunky. Like a high school garage band. That part has me in the three star range. But then you get into the droning single sustained sound that makes you feel like all but one member is on a cigarette break. That’s solid 1/2 star territory (depending on the sound). I’ve had the urge to skip to the next track frequently. This could be the most masterful work lyrically but I have no idea what they’re saying so I’d never know. This would be 3/10. So I’ll round it to 2 as it isn’t quite down with the one star stuff.

It's not bad, but it's not my taste

I just don't think I get Sonic Youth.

not my vibe

I can understand that some people like it. A very interesting historical album that was very important in the world of indie (rock).

This was a struggle

Not great, I find it to be forgettable.

It seemed like generic rock/alternative music to me. I didn't really connect with the sounds or the lyrics and I couldn't find a deeper meaning to most of it. Overall not my favorite kind of music.

*Lucille Bluth voice* I don't care for Sonic Youth.

just noise

I don't feel any differently about this than I did about the other SY albums so far. And we still have two more. . . . I really don't understand why there needs to be 5 on the list It's edgy, noisy, and sardonic. Uuuuuh ok. They're clearly not trying to make anything pretty, but whatever they were attempting is kinda lost on me, listening forty years later. I was much happier turning it off than when it was playing so I'ma gonna give it a 1!

The first though that came to my head, "Not this braying bonehead again."

I hated this album so much, can’t really explain why I disliked it so much.

When I hear "alternative rock" I find myself thinking this is an excuse for crap rock. The album cover is a look alike mish mash that fails. Just not original. When the first track is called "Schizophrenia", you know its going to be fucking mad. All in all, it's an appalling effort from an American "rock band" that flops. I'd never heard of them before, and hope I never come across them again. My god there is some crap choices on this app, like its been rushed, "yeah, that will do" type thing. I've scored more 1 out of 5s than anything else.

Absolutely hate sonic youth

nahhhhhh

This band sucks

This kind of noise is not for me.

556/1089 - Same sloppy shit as any other Sonic Youth album. Why do they have five on the list?

The opening track was deceiving in that it wasn’t horrible. The rest of this wannabe punk album revealed its true nature. Not sure what they wanted to do here but it ended up a muddled low energy mess.

Still don't get it. Cilantro-ass band.

Why the fuck does this list have FIVE Sonic Youth albums and not a single Black or Death Metal record? Not even a Queens of the Stone Age album! Your taste in music sucks, Dimery.

Ouch my ears. 1

I'm sorry but that was an instant headache

Not my cup of tea. Too dark.

I think I'm about to like it, and then I'm disappointed. Idk guess I had to be there

I gave them a pass with two stars on the first two albums we had by them. I’m downgrading them to a one because I’m sick of hearing them on this list.

Noise rock and experimental indie rock built from abrasive guitar textures, repetitive rhythms, detached vocals, and walls of feedback feels like being trapped in a room where several radios are fighting for attention at the same time—restless, intentionally disorienting, and ultimately more exhausting than rewarding. The album's commitment to noise and abstraction comes at the expense of memorable songs or emotional engagement. While its influence is easy to imagine the listening experience feels more like endurance than discovery.

Today, May 27, 2026 I discovered I really do not like Sonic Youth. Too much noise, not enough music.

The last Sonic Youth album I listened to here was pretty dire, this one is equally uninspiring. Duller than a bus timetable pasted on the outside wall of a public toilet. Stuck it out for four songs.

Sonic Youth just aren't my thing. I like other noise projects, but somehow Sonic Youth just doesn't strike me. It's just kind of frustrating how they always sound like they don't know how to tune their instruments nor even really play them properly at all, even after all these years. Once again, this is not a good album by Sonic Youth.

Did not like this album.

I can get down with a bit of discordance and noise to my music when it serves the album but this one strays too far beyond my threshold and became just a cacophony I wasn't interested in attempting to pull apart and analyze for something deeper or more meaningful. Godspeed to anyone who can. Falls in line with Pixies Surfer Rosa to me, but a worse version.

just a bunch of noise

Strange music. Not impressed.

More Sonic Youth. All I can do is shake my head. It just sounds bad to me. Awful unmusical instrumentation, terrible singing, stupid lyrics

This band is not bad but they do not deserve 5 albums on this list..

Not a fan of anything on the album really

Once again, just not a fan of the sound of these guys. On the bright side, there was less of the woman’s vocals.

Sain kuunneltua 6 biisiin asti, ei toimi kitaran vingutus.

I endured this because it was only 40 minutes. But what amateur sounding, painful dross.

I just...cant stand this. Unlistenable.

Muito ruim, muito barulho. O rock merece mais respeito.

I really just don't understand why anyone would sit down and willfully listen to this band.

Like BCNR forgot how to be melodic.

My favorite park was when it ended. :,)

Was this popular because it had the new alternative sound and there just wasn't much else to turn to at the time? I honestly can't remember, and I'm not remembering why people thought this was so great at the time because it's just dull now.

cool album cover but no for me

Just more sonic garbage. 1 star or F-.

Doesn't do anything for me

Wow this was terrible. Like hard to listen to but not in a good way

Not for me!

I don't think noise rock is for me

This sucked. I couldn't wait til this ended. The vocals are not good at all. There are some redeeming instrumental parts here so I will give it 1 instead of .5 lol. Liked Songs: "Schizophrenia" , "Tuff Gnarl" , "Hot Wire My Heart" (I guess????)

I imagine if I had fulfilled my lost dream of music the results would have sounded a lot like this ~ not musical. This is awful to listen to.

Like, Sonic Youth just has to be an elaborate prank, right? There's no way that a bunch of music critics didn't get together to convince everyone that this crap is actually good over a few drinks late one night as joke.

Argh..I knew it was in the late 80s.. but simply tuning all tracks to the right notes will make the album much more pleasant. All tracks are slightly off tune.. whether it’s intentional (plus I doubt it), it was very unpleasant. And they love semitones as well. I just don’t like it sorry.

Oh brother

A struggle. Really don't understand Moore and Gordon's God-like status at all. I clearly have to try harder.

Average indie pop

Borderline unlistenable.

This is the third damn Sonic Youth album that's come up. I get it. Sonic Youth is noisy and obnoxious and terrible. No, I don't need to hear any more of it.

Not enjoyable in the slightest. Started out ok but got worse with every song. Just a random bunch of sounds with some terrible singing over the top. Not for me at all. 1.5/5

Sonic Youth can do better I’m sure

Oh man, 1987 was an amazing year for music, one of the best ever. Not this album, though.

Hard to hear the lyrics - mastering? I can see where emo bands got their inspiration

School kids still learning to play instruments.

I really think this must have been a really cool stuff back in the day , but to me it just sounds awful. Everything sounds out of tune , and the composition is just deliberately annoying. To me it’s like cilantro, not a matter of taste , but pure physical rejection.

no thanks. was mostly noise.

I like a lot of bands that are in the same realm as Sonic Youth but there’s been 3 or 4 Sonic Youth albums on here by now and with every one, I wonder if this’ll be the one where it clicks for me and doesn’t just sound like distorted fucking garbage. Nope. Still distorted fucking garbage.

I like Evol better

Nope. The big one is the only one you have to hear. This is superfluous. 1 star for time wasting.

Just straight up really not for me, I didn't really get anything out of this one

This album stressed me out so bad.

Was it better than the last Sonic Youth album on the list? Yes. Did I enjoy it? No. Would I listen again? No. Enough said!

Didn’t like this sound.

Absolute bullcrap. Another unnecessary plop of Sonic Youth for the 1001 List. This is in the same ballpark of tetchy, tedious, tuneless, drawling hipster twonging as Daydream Nation but without quite the same ambition, scope or tiniest plausible claim to being as iconic or essential. Swing out this Sister from a tall window towards the nearest hyperactive volcano field.

Was going back through this trying to figure out which one was my least favourite and I kept thinking each one was. That’s how shit this album was. Too edgy too grungy not for me. Specific rating- 1.1 Fav song- schizophrenia Least fav- tuff gnarl / all

Sometimes when I am served up an album by a band who have appeared multiple times on this list and I have also previously reviewed I go back to read my musings and to see if my opinions vary. I’ve cut and pasted these below. Saves me having to repeat myself but unfortunately not the torture of listening. Bugger me I’ve just checked the book and still have another two albums by these cretins to go. Is it really credible for at best a division 2 band to have 5 albums on this list? Or put it another way, nearly .5% of the whole list? As I progress through this list I’m realising that when I get an album which I like I find it easy to write about (which I guess I’m stating here the bleeding obvious) But when I get an album which I consider bad it’s harder to come up with comments and emotions that I have not used before. Sometimes a bad album might have been made by an icon and considered globally as a classic. In which case I can say it’s not my barrow but I can appreciate the impact it made on music and deserving to be on this list. Which brings me back to my original point and this bag of shite. I’ve already used all the expletives and dismissive’s for all the other crap I’ve had to listen to. I don’t just like saying ‘not my cup of tea’ in one line as I prefer justify why don’t like it. But as I’ve now waffled on and my review looks long I can now end without saying anything remotely knowledgeable or assessing the musicality of this album and thus fooling everyone except myself. Who reads this anyway? I always knew Sonic Youth were there but had no interest in them at all. Might have heard a track or two before but they must have washed over me as if they never existed. I set off to listen to this album positively hoping I would learn something new but to no avail I’m afraid. Found myself concentrating more on an ipad card game I picked up after track 1. 1/5 7/8/25

Not a fan

SY's fourth album is more let's-make-weird-noises-with-guitars racket that sounds like it was more entertaining (?) to make than to listen to. The tortured-psyche lyrics on this record are also delivered in such a ponderous way that they're more laughable than anything else.

Some of the sounds reminds me of Blur circa self-titled. Or The Velvet Underground. But way more annoying and random. At least I can now properly judge the pretentious people who extol Sonic Youth

Garbage Noise

Eh not my vibe at all, music was fine. 3.1/10

Not sure how to feel about this album... or Sonic Youth for that matter, since this was my first impression of them. The sound of the album was slightly too discordant for my taste, there were no songs that really grabbed my attention or made me want to listen to more of their music. It's like the further into the album I got, the more it just sounded like... random sounds to me. I've heard people talk favourably about Sonic Youth before, so maybe I just need to go listen to a different album of theirs.

The beats intrigued me but none of the songs came together.

Most of the album sounds like incoherent noise. Very meh.

2/10…noise rock

rubbish just noise

Not for me 1/5

unfortunately the timing of this album is wrong. now im tired of listening to previous albums and getting sleepy. Yes they have talent and they can play and and and. but they gave me headache.

i know that i like a few sonic youth songs, just don't think i've heard most of this album before. i like the guitar tone, the riffs, and some of the melodies but what irks me is the vocal delivery sometimes meh. also the tracks where kim gordon is the vocalist are annoying here. fav tracks: catholic block stereo sanctity

I did not like this one. At all.

I can’t wrap my head around why Sonic Youth is so highly regarded. For me, this album was a boring blend of noise and stress. Like a collection of dissonant sounds, strange chords, and screams.

⭐️ Sonic youth is not good… I’m sorry. It’s like a bunch of people got together and just strummed chords and made a bunch of shitty sounds and someone read poetry and had 0 concern for how it sounded.

Feels (and sounds) like an inside joke that I didn't get - sounds like an electric guitar wired to a garbage disposal. As I said, I don't get it...

Sister has a more ethereal and atmospheric sound than Goo, but there is still plenty of noise here. There were a few songs on Goo that I kept. No such songs here. Not my thing.

So kinda sad emoish rock. Wasn’t really feeling anything on here and not memorable.

More Sonic Youth, so more of the same - decent 30 second stretches in almost every song, surrounded by discordant and borderline incomprehensible musical garbage. This was better than EVOL, but not by much. Definition of quarter-baked album

I need more melody, less distortion. On first listen it’s a 1.5 for me.

Not for me

Glad to expand my horizons but definitely not for me.

Sonic Youth's "Sister" started off okay, but quickly became a repetitive and annoying listen. The guitar riffs were particularly grating, and the album failed to hold my attention. As an alternative rock fan, I was hoping for something more engaging. 1/5
