Reviews (page 4 of 8)

Liked their earlier work a lot more, but there is still a lot of JD’s original sound left here.

- Fine time - dated mixing, odd opening track for album, sheep outro? 3/10 - All the way - hooky melody, solid mixing, coherant synths 7/10 - love less - emotive vocals 6/10 nice accoustic guitars - round and round - stab synths.. how original. interesting outro. 5/10 - guilty partner - nice vibes, not my vibes though. 4/10 - run - not bringing anything new in second half but authentic, dist guitars pop 8/10 (got a like) - mr disco - love song. eh? were the drums a big deal at the time? 5/10 - vanishing point - vocals wtf. distinctive vibes 6/10 - dream attack - raw piano nice. standout for effort? overstay's welcome. overall: 6.5/10, retrospectively generic, likely defined it's genre. Genre - ick overall thoughts: vanilla clubby poppy synth with a hint of drugs addled mixing. Kids these days dont appreciate the greats because everyone ended up sounding like them? sounds like a time in the world.. you had to be there?

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Fine time, All the way, Guilty partner, Dtram attack

really liked it, some of the music repeats itself but otherwise a great, fun, easy album to listen to.

Yeah white boy play that synth

-Honestly a pretty weak 4, but this was better than quite a few of the 3's. Generally palatable electronic dance stuff with a bit of a rock vibe

While I am familiar with New Order, this is definitely not the sound I’m used to. I actually double checked the name of the band when I played the first song. Overall, New Order never disappointed me lyrically or melodically, yes, the instrumentals might’ve been too much for me at different points of the album, but isn’t that what the 80’s were all about? I liked 6 tracks of that, my favorites are: All The Way, Love Less, Run, Mr Disco, Vanishing Point, and Dream Attack. Dream Attack and Run were the absolute highlights of the album, in my opinion.

Great!

pretty groovy stuff.

8/10 classic 😎

Quite enjoyed, short but enjoyable

All the time är bra i think

Not a huge New Order fan, but on the whole I enjoyed this. A bit samey, but after the last few albums this probably gets an extra 0.5. 3.5/5

Great stuff. Need to delve more into their back cat

Eigentlich alles drauf, was New Order in ihrer Gesamtheit so gut macht, von daher schade, dass ich das Album bisher so selten bis gar nicht durchgehört habe. Sollte ich mir jetzt öfter mal anhören. Mindestens 4+

Klar, da braucht man doch mal Urlaub!

Sounds great

Extremely catchy, great hooks, amazing bass guitar.

I liked it but my friends thought it was lame :(

Very good Manchester

Super super vibey.

Really liked this one! I don’t remember any specific songs actually but I remember really vibing LOL

6/14 Disco balls & strobe lights. Standout Tracks: Love Less, Round & Round, Guilty Partner, Vanishing Point

a radical change but it is enjoyed

70/100 Man what even was this album I listened through it but nothing was all that memorable to me. It felt at times both like you could tell it was a changed version of the old band that once was Joy Division, but also that they had changed like too much into this dance music style and man I really didn't like it all that much. It felt a bit like Depeche Mode but not as dark or technically good. I don't know I've heard New Order before and I really appreciated their music that came out before this but I didn't dig this album much but looking at my friends reviews on here it seems im both not the only one, but also that I'm being kind with my rating so hey look at that I'm doing good here. Listen to their other albums this is pretty much a skip, but hey if you're into dance music go crazy I guess

The music’s really not that bad. I’m just sick of so many nasally blokes on the mic.

The general sound of New Order has always been appealing to me, and yet I find most of these songs fairly forgettable. Most of them come close to being great, but fall short to "just good". I will probably just stick to their hits.

Quite nice

It’s pretty cool. If you listen close you hear really cool harmonies. The straightforward dance beats got a little old for me.

Dramatic shift in sound from the first song to the rest of the album. They were almost onto something.

6/10… synthpop / new wave / *1989

I listened to a couple of New Order albums back in the 80s but apparently not this one. Honestly, it’s just a little too synth heavy for my tastes. I preferred American new wave, with bands like Devo, R.E.M., and the B-52‘s.

Listened on 9th July 2026. Favourite songs are Fine Time, Round & Round and Mr. Disco.

Super of its era. It sounds very Cure-like, putting a lot of pop into what was originally post-punk. The ravey elements don’t really fit for me with their traditional sound, so it’s an odd marriage on this record. I loved Round and Round at the time - the dance cut 12” version - so if I got the record back in the ‘80s I probably would have liked it more. As is, it’s not bringing that much to the table in 2026

Thought it was going to be another British flat tone vocals however I was pleasantly surprised that the vocals were nice! Kind of disco rock maybe?

New Order is an enigma for me. I really like some of there stuff, hate some of it and then this is just kind of in the middle. Decent listen but nothing really stuck out once it was over.

This album and the challenge as a whole is a good example of why DEI is needed. Too much white mediocrity, and too much minority excellence missing

Ég hef alltaf verið aðdáandi Blue Monday með New Order en hef aldrei hlustað á önnur lög með þeim. Ég ætla bara að halda mig við mánudaginn því þetta var ekkert spes.

I dont know how best to say this. When they do pop, its trash. When its rock, its great. I wonder if we will get other New Order albums because most of their hits (Age Of Consent is the one I know) are on other albums.

I agree with Chad here - it's like two different bands. Digging the rock stuff like All The Way and Run. Not so sold on the electronic stuff - just less memorable. I do like the idea of bringing together genres and showing the breadth of the band, but the songwriting is just a little dull at times. Reminded me a little of The The at times.

I quite liked the bits that sounded like The Cure, it ended up a bit dated but overall cool.

I enjoyed this

Pretty solid and interesting for 80s albums in this vein. Some catchy bits, some more experimental bits, and the album cover is quite modern. Good overall. 3.4/5 -> 3/5

not bad

It ain't no low life but its still pretty good. It starts off with almost a partial industrial vibe. That first song is wild. There are goat bleets for some reason. The synths are just more aggressive than im used to or really want that much. I think thats my biggest sticking point. But its still a nice enough new order record. Its still has all that sorta gothy new wave stuff that you would expect and want from these guys. Enjoyable but not amazing. Just good enough

15/05/2026 Can't say I'm impressed with this. The more this challenge goes on, the more a lot of the bands sound too similar. Spotify listeners: 8.2 million

Another overrated sad synth band. “I’m a boy, girls hurt my feelings, listen to my keyboard”. Will admit the synths were alright

★★★½

7/10 Short and sweet. I like the overall sound, but there aren't really any stand out songs. Highlights: Dream Attack Vanishing Point All the Way Love Less

first factory records album i've gotten :-) i like "love less", it feels kind of cure-y to me, maybe it's just the 80s sound. i liked the bass in "run". in the spirit of transparency i will admit i was jobhunting towards the second half of the album and probably did not give it my undivided attention. favourites were "fine time" and "dream attack", lots of fun!

It's always interesting to read the Wiki and discovering John Denver with a credit on this Techno album. Apparently "Run" has a guitar break that sounds too much like "Leaving on a Jet Plane" so there was a settlement. Honestly, I don't hear it. The album is decent for the genre. It's just not really my thing.

Review - never really listened to New Order and this showed me why. The songs aren't bad, the bass guitar is good, the electronic elements are mostly fun, but this electronic rock sound didn't catch on I think for a reason. The sounds are too hard to reconcile and the production isnt really up to the task, which makes it a bit jarring, and sometimes like two songs playing over each other. Often good songs! But a bit weird. I quite liked this album and will probably try more New Order now, but this isn't an all timer. Score - 6.5/10 Need to listen? YES

Klar på noget New Order!

A friend had this album and I remember borrowing it and not wanting to return it, but it never got to the point that i wanted to buy it myself. I guess this is how I feel about this album and it will be interesting to see how my view has changed over the years. It is not too bad. I enjoyed the listen. Love less and Run are the standout songs. It is not quite a 4 though. 3.5 stars

It sounds nice — pretty common, nothing special, but good it general

Producción muy ochentosa. Me hace acordar a The Cure a veces.

An old fave

I'm not hugely familiar with New Order, only vaguely with Substance and from what I remember it doesn't really sound like this. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing, I'm kind of undecided about how I feel but I did quite like the electronicy bits.

Unmemorable

Kinda a mix between rock and dance with the guitars, which is cool. Some songs hit more than others, but overall, it’s a pretty chill listen Favorite track(s) All The Way Guilty Partner Dream Attack

Listening session: april 29th, while going for a walk Listened to before: no Thoughts: this album is a nice mix of classic 80s synths and Cure-like tracks. Nothing outstanding, but it’s not bad to listen to Favourite tracks: Guilty Partner, All The Way & Dream Attack

*Synth pop that sounds pretty good *It gets too trance/dance/techno for me to give it more than a 3

A fun album, not as memorable as more of their singles or complications but a good representation of what makes them so good.

by this point their sound comes across more formulaic that boundary breaking. nothing on here really compelling me to return to this album. I’m assuming we’re gonna get to some stronger New Order releases at some point.

I've only ever really listened to 'Power, Lies, and Corruption,' so this was an interesting listen. You've got the dance tracks, which don't really do much for me. Sumner's voice and performances just doesn't fit well with those tracks. However, "All The Way," "Love Less," and "Run" do away with the dance pretenses and do that British Indie Pop move of having propulsive rhythm sections, jangly and anthemic guitars, and tasteful synths mixed in. I love that shit.

Good I guess. New Order is great and deserves to be on this list for their other work but I’m not sure about this album being on this list.

Not my favorite New Order but there’s some good stuff here. But overall just fine, not great.

Love the production but I think they have better!

Electronic drums has it place. What is build from it? Some are better than others. This one doesn't raise any hopes.

This is strong 3, like almost a 4.

Good sounds

Not New Order's best work.

Occupies a weird position to me between being cringe inducing in some of the more dance oriented tracks like Fine Time, which was clearly created in a time, and for a time, when you take a pill and go wild, letting the trance of the surrounding sounds. But then you have songs like Guilty Partner, which is an infective post-punky tune that surprised me on the first listen with a great bass backbone by Hooky. All the Way and Love Lass are also two nice jangly songs. It really depends on the day with this one. Today I'll say this album is decent, tomorrow you'll catch me vibing hard with the entire thing. But whatever the day might be, one cannot deny how this album flows easily.

This was unexpected great, very 80-ish but great nonetheless. My favorite tracks were Fine Time and Loveless. Enjoyable and a great and easy listen

God teknikk, men her mangler det kreativitet. Klarte heller ikke å engasjere meg i tekstene.

Didn’t hate this anywhere near as much as I thought. My goodwill faded the more of Sumner’s voice I heard. But I quite like the late 80s electronic acid-lite vibes. And it foreshadows World in Motion, which was a pivotal piece of my development at 11 years old.

Not my favourite New Order album by any means, but it has its moments. “Fine Time” is a dancefloor banger and “Mr. Disco” links back nicely to the older stuff. For me, a solid enough record, but not outstanding. 7/10

If you have plenty of time on your hands and you're in the mood to listen to a perfectly acceptable New Order record on which New Order perform New Order songs in a very New Ordery fashion, you could do worse than listen to this. It's... fine. If your days are numbered however, and you feel compelled to listen to something life-affirming before you pop your clogs, you might want to look elsewhere.

I like New Order a lot more than I like Joy Division, but I don’t really like New Order either. It’s ok, non-descript, and I’m not listening to it again.

talking heads ako bea pomalku autisticni

mid compared to their other albums

cool but not the biggest fan of this

Still not a huge New Order fan but I preferred this to Low and would listen again.

Pretty good album. Could definitely grow on me with a few more listens

Fine for what it is

When I think of peak 80s music with all the silly electronic sounds, it’s this. This one is a little poppier than I like my new wave, but still new order.

I think I get what they were going for, and I think it works about half the time. I wish it was more over the top. It feels too safe

I’d rate a 4 if they stuck to one style for this album

Interesting sound but not overly compelled to listen to their other works

Six albums in a decade is very prolific. This installment feels less thoughtful than its preceding records, but very enjoyable nonetheless. I'll never tire of that signature bass tone, slathered in chorus. Peter Hook 🐐

Bit bland with no real bottom end! I generally like New Order but this one doesn’t grab me as much as their earlier stuff. Bit too “polished” maybe?

I'm a simple person. I see New Order, I vote it high. Not really sure why this particular album made the list. It's good. But there's nothing standout.

First Listen; 2.5; I feel like I always want to like New Order more than I actually do. I certainly enjoy the music enough, and the sound/production is fun for an album listen every once in a while, but for whatever reason there's nothing too much that hooks me. Favorite Track: Guilty Partner

Top songs: All the Way Love Less

Very much Cure-esque

I really like New Order when Peter Hook's bass is going for it. Thing is, on the songs when he's not, there's better Ibiza records than this. And when he is, there's better New Order songs than these. I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. I remember watching The Other Side Of Midnight back in 1989 and "New Order" performed with Hook pressing a button on a computer for all the other parts and he played the bass. That was the future right there. Anyway, that dong didn't make it onto the album.

Shadows cast loud and clear. Tell the world the New Order’s here.

Didn’t love it at first but it grew on me.

Nice enough

Good solid 80s

Solid 7

So 80s, so synth, so pop. Not my favorite, but it's okay. Typical reverb vocals, a bit haunting at times, overlayed on some dance and upbeat synth rhythms. Nothing major to report.

A bit dated, but fun dance music. I enjoyed it.

Best Song: All the Way Enjoyed this album for its typical New Order traits; the layered rhythms, bass guitar, synth and engaging lyrics. I always enjoyed how Bernard Summer delivers the lyrics in NO. Overall however, this album just doesn't resonate with me to the extend NO often does. I think there are some tracks that felt perhaps lazy or confused, others which I'm conflicted on, and others I enjoyed but feel may be generic. However a few of the tracks really grew on me after a second listen. This isn't a genre I would typically listen to, although NO feel so authentic to me.

I really like New Order as a group; the way they project melancholy in dancey synth music draws me in. This probably wasn’t my favourite album of theirs, but I still appreciated it and listened to it a few times. Technique felt a bit brighter than other NO material, and you can hear the Balearic dance influence and can tell the group were in Ibiza while creating it. I usually hate too much repetition in albums but found it so hypnotic on technique, the chord progressions were simple, usually diatonic, which meant songs relied on layering to build. I liked this, although it may have made the album blur together a bit in parts. I’ve always enjoyed Sumner’s vocals; they have this slightly detached, fragile quality to them. I did think it got a bit lost in the mix on Technique at times. The lyrics were introspective, exploring disconnection and relationships. Although they weren’t exactly poetic and instead reserved/distant, it matched the atmosphere of the album quite well.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Mix of early nine inch nails and the cure

Fine, but seems like typically 90s music.

Not as bad as I thought it might be. Just some fairly generic sounding pop that I've mostly forgotten already

Highlights: All The Way, Love Less, Guilty Partner and Vanishing Point. 3.4

Very like 80-90s pop. Ok.

It's New Order... I usually like New Order, but this one's not fully hitting for me. I think it's the turn to more...aggressive(?) dance-influenced sounds? Something about it just isn't quite doing it for me. When it hits right, though, it's every bit as good as other classic New Order songs, but overall this was just average.

I didn’t realize New Order was Joy Division minus Ian Curtis, but it now makes sense why this 80s pop album is so musically and lyrically interesting. Consistently good all the way through, will listen again.

3.5 I try not to be overly favourable to New Order just because of the lineage, but there is always something interesting in most every song I can pull out and appreciate. Usually its a peter hook bass line (great rockstar name btw) or in this case some cool synth fills. Some of it sounds dated now but some of the effects were pretty cutting edge. I dont know much about EDM music, but if it's like everything else we are probably due for a 40 year reset where stuff from 30-40 years ago gets popular again.

Pretty good - possible vinyl cop

New Order has never been my jam. Certainly not electronics-laden New Order. This is no exception. I can't hate on it but I certainly wouldn't really ever put it on rotation. Some of the tracks on the album are alright -- "Guilty Partner" is one of those. Three stars but one of those is a charity star for influence.

A good though not outstanding album from one of history's most esteemed singles bands May have the effect of making me compare this to their singles of the past, so maybe I'm being unfair even though this album is very listenable

Classic 80s, started word but really developed into something fun.

After the first track I thought I was going to hate this and was getting a house album (not hugely my thing). Instead it really turned itself around into a fun listen that had me moving my shoulders

For some reason I really struggle with New Order, and this is no different

‘80s club music for the most part. Some of it is good and some starts to set a little monotonous. Fortunately no 12” single club mixes — that would be too much for me. Still better than most other bands of this type.

I was not previously familiar with this album, although I have heard some of their other material. This album sounds very much like an 80s production. It is very clean and polished, but it still sounds a bit dated to my ears. The songs are fine but not particularly noteworthy. I could take it or leave it.

The first song was awful. The rest was better.

I thought this album was alright, it had some good songs and it was definitely full of 80s synth pop. I had never heard any of the songs on the album before, and I wasn’t blown away by anything but it worked.

I was looking forward to hearing this album, but it was not as awesome as I was hoping it would be. I prefer earlier New Order material.

It was listenable

I was dreading this a little bit, but honestly I liked it a lot more than I wanted to!

Another good New Order album! - GEMV (04.02.2026)

3.5 A lovely little New Order album that’s real easy to listen to - but not sure this album is necessary for this list!!

Overall: 6/10 It's like Depeche Mode, except I'm kind of bored! The bass parts are great though, I think it's the vocals and weird synths that take me out of it. Still a decent album though, had some highlights. Fav Song: Vanishing Point

This seems mad. It seems to lurch quite hard between new wave indie type sounds and some pretty cool hard electronic stuff. Personally I much prefer the electric bits and the indie bits fall flat a little bit for me. The highs are very high. But this feels absolutely the best rating I can give to something that feels inconsistent to my tastes and doesn't feel like it has so much flow.

Seems like pretty average EDM. Maybe a little above average. But not a lot.

had fun yeah, nothing stood out to me but enjoyed

I was 8 when this album came out. We only listened to hippie music in my house, so I missed the whole new wave movement. Of course I’ve heard New Order before, but I’ve never listened to a New Order album all the way through. This album is obviously so dated, but I love the acid house vibes and the layered synth melodies. “Round and Round” is a legit banger. I found myself bopping along and enjoying this way more than I expected.

Starts out promising, as if someone had just discovered a new music toy, but as it progresses, it sort of becomes a bit repetitive.

This isn’t an *unenjoyable* album to listen to, but I’m not really sure there was an original musical thought cover to cover. I would not listen to this again.

The tunes were quite hot at times

not bad

Naja ging klar. Solide 3

New order goes to the rave.

I enjoyed this album listen from New Order! New Order has such a unique sound and this album was quintessential them from head to toe. I feel like this album had more electronic and techno influence than some of their other new wave hits. I’d never listened to this album before so that was a fun experience. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen and I would jam to this again in the future!

At times it sounds majestic, but then there's this preset sound that permeates the other half of the tracks and I feel like I'm hearing someone play with a Casio. It's a tough sell to have in the list, but I can see why someone who is fan of the band would love this. I would put Power, Corruption & Lies instead.

It was fine

This was okay! It all sounded kind of the same to me, but I understand it's dance music and that's sort of the point :)

80s AF. Good but not my favorite new order album

Mostly harmless, I suppose, but TWO albums from New Order and ZERO from Warren Zevon? Dumping either this or Low-Life (I'd lean toward getting rid this one, personally) in favor of Excitable Boy would give this list a great deal more credibility. There are far too many albums like this where it seems the author simply asked his friends what albums they liked, then put their recommendations on the list with little or no consideration (and possibly without even listening to them!).

This was cute. Unremarkable though

Another solid album

sadness… but lets make it danceable.

New Order integrates new dance and pop influences into their existing synth-pop-post-punk sound without losing sight of it. It’s a decently fun album with good songs, but none were so good to wow me. I’ll always enjoy a good Hooky bass line, so that’s enough to hold me interest for a bit. He’s kept a fairly consistent style while the band sound has changed - it makes for a unique effect and that’s no different here.

A typical new order album, with some quirky departures mixed through. Not their best work though, if I were to compare this to brotherhood or get ready

Such an 80s sound to this one felt like id travelled back in time listening to it, I did however like a few of the songs on here. Some nice guitar instrumentals with those iconic funky 80s sound effects dropped in here and there. In some of the songs you can hear a little bit of influence from joy division. A fun album to listen to but it didn’t feel like it was anything super special, standout songs for me were ‘All the way’, ‘Guilty partner’ and ‘Dream attack’.

I think I was waiting for Blue Monday and it never came

Heard most of this before, but this is one of the few New Order albums not on my shelves. I'm not sure that's gonna change anytime soon. It's OK, however I'm not really feeling it apart from 'Round And Round' which is a banger. The rest of the album is a bit samey and uninspiring. Heard before ❌️ in part Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 197 Already owned : 44 Purchased : 8 To buy list : 5 Nope : 140

Some songs are soooo one tree hill peyton coded.

I give it a 3.5

--Fine Time...robot rock. lots going on. probably more fun to listen to in da club, as the kids say --All the Way...Friday I'm in love? --Love Less...I like it. I wish there was more bass --Round and Round...this is a toe tapper --Guilty Partner...this feels aimless. the last two minutes with the classical guitar is nice --Run...this is good pop but these guys would really benefit from a heavier low end --Mr. Disco...oh, did they listen to me? yup! a heavy bass gets my booty shakin' --Vanishing Point...cool, dark dance club hit --Dream Attack...a nice closer with a driving beat. could still use more bass

Liked the funk, songs generally fine

It was ok. Lyrically a little clunky but it was a good album that was of the times

I'm not super high on this New Order album. It's kind of a weird mix of their classic sound and this more Alternative Dance sound that I don't really love. Also, "All the Way" sounds exactly like "Just Like Heaven". Light 3 stars.

Very nostalgic, as that is what I was listening to in the 80's. In hindsight, not much substance to it, but it does bring back memories.

This was definitely an interesting album. You can tell that it was made in 1989, the album is full of synths, combining rock and dance music wonderfully. I would say it was a solid album for me, Im glad I listened to it, but it’s not a standout for me either.

Good sounding album - about as good as the genre gets. Not the best genre

An improvement from the last New Order album we listened to. The vocals are better, but the lyricism is a bit primary at times. None of the songs really stand out.

Decent enough - not one I’d go back to I don’t think

Enjoyable album. High 3.

Not my favourite New Order album, but still good by ordinary standards.

You can imagine this coming out at the peak of the Hacienda’s powers. On first listen, based on the opening moments, I was convinced it would be a full on dance album, instead it’s a pleasing mix of synthpop and dance. No big hits but it works well as full album experience. The only small shame is that All the Way sounds unignorably similar to The Cure’s Just Like Heaven - even including some of the same lyrics!

I enjoyed it. ★★★

7/10 - good 80s synthpoprock

Very interesting techno

Nice but kinda background dance

I really am not as crazy on the late 80’s as I thought

This is more of the New Order that I remember. It is not bad.

A yes a band that is always confusing and slightly annoying

This also wasn't quite as mind-numbingly boring as I anticipated (that doesn't mean it was great either though). Was fine.

I kind of dig it. The first track is nothing like the remainder of the album, making it feel really out of place. I guess my favorite track is "Vanishing Point"

It's fine

Not all that into dance music, but I do actually appreciate the electronica aspects of this one, and the 80s vibe bring it into line for me.

Yeah, it's alright. Some bits sounded more like dance music than I was expecting and I liked that. I liked that (to me) Peter Hook's bass sounds like Simon Gallup's bass from The Cure (although I can't say who influenced who first) but it was also a bit meh. I sort of like it though. 3.5 stars

Pretty typical new wave synth pop. Good album but nothing special about it. I do think it's weird that you never see New Order and OMD at the same concerts. Coincidence or conspiracy? You decide...

Bopped my head to this while making deviled eggs for Thanksgiving

middle of the road.. some songs were nice others i almost couldn't listen through. idk very 80's tho

Better than expected, still too 80s

3.5/5. nice vibes

Not their best effort but nay bad

Yeah, 3/5.

Enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. Kind of on the 3.5 stars for this one, but going to go with 3 because I still think there's a lot on here that's just ok (for me).

This was an interesting curiosity for New Order fans but all a bit daft. Probably 2.5 rounded up to 3

Good. And clearly Beck

Seems good but haven’t listened to whole thing yet

Solid but not anywhere close to the level of joy division

decent for sure, a high 3

Sounded like the new order I'm familiar with, synth pop (or whatever they're described as), however none was as catchy as what I was already familiar with

I'm generally a fan of the band, but the inclusion of this particular album is fairly mysterious. I don't consider this to be one of their better works. It's more or less dead average. I understand this band is difficult in that a lot of their early formative stuff was released as 12" singles and never on an album, until the compilation Substance. Still, I would have chosen differently. Low-Life is a stronger record.

Lowlights: fine time, round and round, Mr Disco Highlights: guilty partner, run I was surprised in this album as I usually associate New order with darker, grimier electronic music and a lot of this music was bright, not just the album color. It looks like they went to Ibiza and listened to more club music, which as it turns out I’m not into Some stuff was good , liked when they returned to their sound in guilty partner and Run was a good track. But stuff like fine time and MrDisco just sounded like they were fucking out with a soundboard, Also, Round and Round sounded like that one SpongeBob clip of him dancing with ol no name the jelly fish. Done there, awful to listen to. Overall I can see what people like about this album and If your interested in seeing the growth and change in a band then this can be interesting. But ultimately I’m leaving this one in the sands of Ibiza

Yet another band I know of but never got to hear much from. I really only know the song True Faith, which I absolutely love with it’s ominous and dark feel and was likely exposed to it from music video shows on tv because of that amazing video, as I rarely heard them on the radio. Some of these songs have an electronic feel to them and some have a live band feel. The songs themselves sometimes feels happy and upbeat and sometimes dark and dramatic. Although nothing really stood out upon first listen I did enjoy listening to this album and look forward to getting a few more spins in and also exploring more of their catalogue in the future.

New Order are great but this falls a fair bit short of their best work - there's a tad too much unsatisfactory Pet Shop Boys/Cure-like sounds going on here for my liking

Pleasant synth stuff. This band know they are doing. It doesn't move me particularly, but it's not shit.

There is much to like here. Drags in places, but overall good. I couldn't shake hearing similarities with Guilty Partner's verse bassline with Monaco's What Do You Want From Me? (well, it's all Peter Hook, so all cool). 3.5

Fine album on it's own, but a bit middling compared to all the good albums I've had the past 2 weeks. This has really strayed from synth-pop into pure dance music. It's fun to listen to and groovy enough on it's own, but as dance music I think it's been superseded by stuff that came afterwards and is more dance-able. Didn't really leave much of a lasting impact either.

Sabroso aunque no esperaba estos colores. Definitivamente para re escuchar Nota: 3.4

This was pretty good, but there weren’t any amazing songs. Just fine all the way through.

great but not as much as their other albums, not that many standouts but always a great sound with this band

Didn’t love it but it was cool. It felt ahead of his time indeed!

I admit i braced myself for this album after listening to “Low Life”. Look, this isn’t groundbreaking at all for 1989, but at least it’s tolerable

New Order received a pass following the death of Ian Curtis as New Order formed out of the ashes of Joy Division. This record ended that pass. Who would have thought that they would end up being essentially a disco act. What music listener in 1889 wanted a Donna Summer record with a male vocal? Exactly. A true travesty as Peter Hook lost the synthesizer battle and instead of a rock record we get a synth pop record with Balearic beat club influences I.e. a mellow house record with expansive and hypnotic musical interludes. I’m not the target audience at this point. I enjoyed parts of earlier records such as Power Corruption and Lies which still had threads of Joy Division embedded in its DNA. Gillian Gilbert’s addition after Ian’s death gave me hope of a potentially powerful new direction for the band, but Bernard, as the lyricist and vocalist apparently was the dominant force. Peter Hook ended up the winner after the split but was clearly the loser on Technique. The long expansive passages in several of the songs are boring and largely uninteresting. Sings like Vanishing Point come off as whining to a disco beat. So how do you give a grade to a record where you are unlikely to listen to ever again? The record also comes off a bit dated as this definitely has that 80’s production and the drums are mixed too low to give the songs any punch. Thus is music for a dance floor filled with drug addicts zombified and floating with the music. Nothing sticks out on this record musically. It’s all vibe and no substance. (See what I did there? If you know you know.) someone wrote that Technique was one of the best records of the eighties. Hahaha. I actually replayed this record throughout the day several times interested in seeing if a song would jump out. Unfortunately, the answer in no. It really has become elevator music 35 years later. If you are really fucking high this is probably a 4/5. If you are not, it’s a solid 2 especially with the dated production. I split the difference.

It was a fun album but not really memorable

Didn't hate didn't love

U. Na move

Standouts Run Love Less

Solid album, not super special

Technique is when New Order as a band took a real turning point with their music, as they were about to leave the 80s behind and enter a new decade for the music they thoughtfully craft. Some may call this project cheesy while others may find a lot of charm in it. I am personally somewhere in the middle, and I'd like to talk about it here today. The production here isn't New Order's best by any means as that Synthpop they went on to help push feels very tried and true on Technique while also feeling reinvigorated at times. Song of my favorite tracks here have to be All The Way, Love Less, and Dream Attack as they all bring back that killer Pop and Club sound New Order meshes so well. I do feel all things considered this project is quite weak and doesn't pack nearly the same punch as some of their other material, but hey at least it is good? On a final note can we appreciate just how beautiful of an album cover this project has, one of my favorites for sure. Nuff said.

More Alternative Dance-Rock from New Order. Not sure why there appears to be the sound of sheep at the end of the first track, "Fine Time". Also contains hit "Round & Round". Nothing special unless you're an avid fan of New Order. Am I the only person that thinks that "Mr. Disco" sounds more like the Pet Shop Boys than New Order?

If you like 80’s pop this is for you. Some really nice beats on here too really I just dont like vocals and lyrics too much.

Len Houmous always said technique was exactly what New Order were missing. Some record execs claimed this album was a response to that! 2.7 4/9 Round & Round

A moderately good album that exists in between pop, new wave, and synthy 80s genre less stuff. The middle of the album was better than the first two tracks, but it was in the in between space between good and blah

Era defining sound. From the first techno synth moment you know what decade you are in.

Was never a New Order fan but I gave it a proper listen. Still not a fan but I get it, I think.

It’s ok, more upbeat than I expected from New Order

New Order has a sound. Perfect in the background. Still fine for the foreground, but better in the background. Some legit bangers on this album. Reminded me of clubbing when I was 20.

I have listened to album maybe seven (7) times over the last two weeks, and writing this now I cannot recall a single song on the record. Either it’s unmemorable or my brain is unmemorablisable

It's fine. I think for the time it would have been really interesting with it's mix of genres.

Not usually my thing but I liked the 80's synths and didn't groove with the Cure knockoff part, which is the opposite of what I usually feel. 5/10

Nice, very electric heavy on the drum machine didn’t know any songs

Its solid

Anno 2025 the album sounds dated. The production is typical 90 ties with all the clichés from that period incl goat samples.

I like new order. I prefer them to joy division, heretically. But this one feels superfluous. Another greatest hits (and I love the double cd greatest hits) was more than sufficient.

Ok sans plus ni moins

I have this record. I just don't see it as one of the 1001 records you have to listen to before you die. If other New Order records are not on the list, then I just don't see how this makes the list and others do not. Not a favorite New Order record of mine.

New Order. I think I've heard of these guys before, though I can never be too sure. This is a pretty sweet album cover. Were I to make any predictions, I'd guess that I'm in for a punk or new wave affair. Guess I'll just crack this one open. Dance-rock? I guess I should have expected something more out-there from the album cover. This ain't half bad. There's some pretty solid melodies, and I enjoy the dreamy vocals. The synthetic sound is very of-the-time, though in all fairness that's part of the appeal. "Fine Time" is a good opener. I enjoy the funky, discordant sound. "Love Less" is another great track - easily my favourite from the album. I like these kinds of pleasing, affirmational instrumentals. "Vanishing Point" has a good ambience and a pretty sweet guitar performance. I also like the funky sound going on in the background. Very KLF-esque. Book time. A defining album of the time. Debuted at number 1 on the UK charts. Wikipedia reveals that this album has a wide array of influences and an enduring appeal among critics. Yeah, this seems like a solid pick

I like New Order in general and it has aged well but also half the songs on here sound like "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure and it's taking me out of it.

The less synthy stuff has aged really well and sounds awesome. I liked this way more than I was expecting—which is dumb, because "Age of Consent" is one of my favourite songs, ever. I just didn't know this album at all. When it doesn't sound like backing music to an 80s PSA about dental health, it's great!

This album really grew on me, i think it requires a couple of listens tbh. On my first listen of the album and first track my reaction was: 😵‍💫 Buttttt after I listened to the album a 2nd time later in the day, my reaction was more this: 😎 This album oozes 80s vibes, through n through. The drum machine at first I thought was a bit much, but then as it went on, I think they mixed in some live drumming. The rock/pop aspects of this album were quite enjoyable to listen to, and definitely grew on me. The last 2 songs being my favorites on the album, Vanishing point and Dream Attack. 7/10 but only giving it 3 stars as I dont think it had enough oomph for the extra star. Id give it 3.5 if I could.

This grew on me. At first I wasn’t digging it, it sounded like a lot of 80s synth pop, kind of generic. But as I kept going I found myself enjoying it and noticing how forward thinking it is. This album has a ton of foreshadowing for what would come next in electronic music. Some of this is proto-EDM and techno. This album was wildly progressive.

Goes back and forth between new wave electronica and post punk. Feels like two separate album ideas in one. Not bad, but a little confusing. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Alright 2.5/5

Very new order, it was fine

Brilliant 1980s dance electronica

Not bad, nothing stood out to me too much on this album

Not their best, but still enjoy. Seems like a mix of two different styles for a lot of songs. Clearly North and Sumner fighting a bit about direction. 3.5

pretty decent album, but ultimately did not move me a whole lot. there were nice moments and i enjoyed the production and overall sound here. just wish i felt like the songs had more to sink my teeth into. mostly it felt like an alright, but unremarkable synth-pop album from an outfit that I mostly identify with being more than that.

This genre, I don't listen much to this. It's has a blend of style like first 2 songs are Dance and then the next feels like Current Joy Whole feel of the track changes abruptly. But it had the groov.

This album is very 80s, but half of it is stuck in the early 80s. They don't seem to be able to decide if they should be doing synth pop or dance/house. Nothing here is bad, it's just a bit boring and none of it really grabbed my attention. 2.5

Nice! A bit too 80s. Not very timeless.

Consistent. Good blend of dance and indie. Nothing massively noteworthy, just a fine album.

Too dancy 🙂. Prefer the earlier albums

Enjoyable if repetitive

Another quality New Order product. What you spin when you want people to dance awkwardly.

I listened to this yesterday and have since forgotten what it sounded like

Did 1001 miss my talk talk review? This wasn’t bad but getting overexposed to 80s in short succession

I love that New-Wave, Post-Punk 80s sound. The New Order just weren't the best at it, comparatively. Not in this album anyways.

It’s got that signature electronic shimmer but this record feels like it’s stuck in cruise control. That’s kind of a bummer. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Love Less - Round And Round - Vanishing Point

This one didn't do anything special for me. It was purely middle of the road. I'll round up because it was inoffensive in a nice way.

Very typical New Order, not sure why it’s on the list. Not a bad album, but it doesn’t really stand out to me

Liked this better than I thought I would. 3.3

Good album. There's not a bad song on it.

Agradable escucha

Best: All The Way Worst: Fine Time Super groovy, comfortable and chill vibes, fantastic bass lines, catchy synths. Not especially breathtaking but a nice casual listen for sure.

ngl i prefer joy division to new order

Unknown band. Good tunes. Very listenable.

fínt breskt diskórokk. vantar slagara? gef aðra. 3,5.

Some good some bad, might listen again but probably not

I reckon it’s a 3.1 tbh. The New Order Albums I’m more familiar with blow this one out of the water

Weird album. Starts off with an electronic song, then 'All The Way' and the following track is some smooth pop song, just to continue on to 'Round Round' which sounds extremely 80s electronic again. What type of album is this trying to be? I found the beginning of this album quite tame and lame, but it saved itself a bit towards the latter half with 'Vanishing Point' actually being a good song. Overall it felt a bit lacking of identity, but wasn't terrible either. Weak 3.

I prefer New Order when they’re a bit more energetic. This one felt a little too pop-oriented for my taste. Very 80s with the drum machine and synths, but overall it just felt kind of mid to me. Reminded me a bit of The Cure. Weak 3.

This was fine. Decent background music, but nothing I'll likely return to. Some of the stuff was repetitive, but overall... fine.

80er Elektropop

Not bad, but didn’t really do much for me

I like new order but this album is somewhat mediocre

Not bad - good play list
