Reviews (page 4 of 14)

Really enjyed hearing the whole album for the first time.

The amount of hits on this album is incredible. Not sure of the flow of the album, thriller kind of seems out of place. It’s hard not to give this five stars just for the incredible songs on it, but there are a few songs that kind of seem random. Wanna be starting something, thriller, beat it, Billie Jean, pretty young thing, so many good songs!

Incredible album, great blend of pop, rock, and rnb. Not a single skip. MJ’s vocals paired with the timeless rhythm and grooves really sets this as a masterclass of music production.

Its thriller. Come on. Like i dont love the songs that aren't mega hits and pyt had a great. I dont know chorus?, but it happens one time and the rest ain't that amazing. But it has beat it and the title track and all the others. Its still the king of pop sitting atop his throne. And thats that

Truly one of the greatest albums of all time. It's just great track after great track after great track. You know it's good when the title track of the album isn't even close to the best one, but still kills it.

MJ and Quincy Jones kill it. Even the terrible duet with Paul McCartney can’t hold this album down.

Yes! MJ at his best!

Excellent album!

Undeniable

wow so many good songs on a single album I can see why he was popular

My 🐐Michael. One of the greatest to ever do it and this one proves it. Wanna Be Starting Something gotta be one of the best opening tracks ever recorded, a five minute journey, when “mamase mamasa mamakusa” is chanted I become that one werewolf meme. And don’t get me started on how fucking good Thriller is.. Human Nature to this day is still Sampled with so many beautiful and elating sections. Most if not all these songs have transcended beyond the album and each song stand on its own as the best song on any other of his contemporaries albums. The production on this album is great, everyone involved is in there bag. It’s not just Michael, its even the collaborators like Eddie Van Halen on Beat It and Paul McCartney on The Girl is Mine, and Alvin from the Chipmunks on PYT. One of the greatest albums ever made for sure.

This is undoubtedly one of the best albums of all time. Thriller contains some of the biggest hits in pop music that have transcended time at an extremely concentrated level. There isn’t much to say that hasn’t been talked to death with this album, but it’s a banger.

All the best artists are fucking mental. Obviously no different in this case. Wall-to-wall brilliant pop with amazing production. Absolute 5.

Awesome. King of pop

He’s the king of pop for a reason

Yeah, it’s a 5. Not sure if it’s his best anymore though.

I’ve been saying this for so long, it’s unbelievable how the most famous 3 hits on here aren’t even the best. Not a crying shame or anything, because it’s arguably the greatest album of all time (not in my opinion, but a consensus I will respect), so most people at this point have gone through the whole thing. But dear LORD, there’s some absolute magic here, human nature, PYT, baby be mine. This album made me fall in love with Moog. I love Moog

Insane album

i love this album despite of the controversial artist

Every song a hit

Such and incredible piece of work, the man's talent really shown through and of course it's in my collection as well.

Such a fun album. Every song is great.

No discuto, musicalmente, es un hito

9/10 Favorite: P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)

Michael Jackson - enough said. Probably my favorite of his albums. I have to also spend a few words talking about the music video for Thriller - I know this isn’t “1001 music videos” but man is that an iconic video. Absolutely 1 of 1. Hard to pick out flaws in this one, it’s exceptional. Standout tracks have to be Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean.

Being a 90s kid my vision of Michael Jackson is so different than those that grew up with him in his prime. I never listened to his music until I was an adult but man this album is a ton of fun. It's not my favorite genre and the songs use a lot of sounds that feel very antiquated at this point but it really is a blast to listen to. Standout tracks are almost too many to name. Beat It, Billy Jean, and PYT are tops for me.

Favorite tracks: Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Beat It Legendary album, I will never tire of Billie Jean. I think the singles were well picked on this one, although I think the album is still strong as a whole.

Cover 6 One of the best albums in history. I don't listen to much Michael these days but I was a fan even into his 90s and early 2000s music. During that time, though, I preferred Prince. Mini rant: there's some jackass on Spotify going by the name "Prince" and one of Prince's live albums (the artists formerly known as Prince, that is) shows up on that dude's discography. He can likely thank this for why he has 6k monthly listeners. Spotify has an issue where that happens with artists of like names. They apparently don't care and it's been an issue for years and they don't seem to be interested in fixing it. Anyway, if you haven't listened to this album (Thriller) already, then whatever. You don't have to like it, but you probably don't love music cuz you're a stupid poser.

Legendary album.

There's a reason its the most sold album ever, back to back bangers. Eddie Van Halens solo in Beat it is mind blowing. Top tier 80's music. Shame about the allegations.

Banger after banger

Its peak its peak its peak its so fucking peak they'll never do it like this again

Thriller has 9 songs in total. Of that 9 - 7 of those are songs that you know and love. The other two aren’t bad either. No need for skips. Just push play and enjoy the king of pop

Very lean and straight to the point pop album. Delivers hit after hit without wasting the listener's time, but at the same time, allows its songs to breathe. Surprisingly diverse sound, with funk, rock, disco, and R&B all coexisting with each other in a coherent manner. The slower numbers don't as much for me as the rest, but this is masterclass in pop craftsmanship regardless. No wonder it's the best-selling album of all time, likely never to be surpassed. Key tracks: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' Thriller Beat It Billie Jean P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Ok, I hate The Girl is Mine. Demo version is better. But overall the middest of mid. Quincy did a special here. I can't imagine how some of these must have been in the club... Jerry Curl juice flowing all over the shop

There's so many great songs on here that I'm willing to pretend that the McCartney collab doesn't exist for the sake of this review. It's so out of place. The rest of the album deserves a 5/5

Yes, this does completely live up to the hype.

Thriller to Beat It to Billie Jean is insane. Also the Beat it guitar riff and Billie Jean bass line are absurdly iconic.

Kedvenc/Favourite: P.Y.T. It’s no coincidence that it’s been such a huge success; every track on the album is easy to listen to and catchy. The sometimes rockish sound blends really well with the groovy melodies, and the songs are unique enough, no two are alike.

This was a time when MJ was at his best musically. Every song on this album is fantastic. Such a great dance album. Love it.

It makes complete sense why this is one of the if not the best selling album of all time, it is a must hear by everyone and everybody. But after 42 years has this thing still stood the test of time? My answer is yes, but not completely. Don't get me wrong some of the songs here will simply never die down like with that perfect 3 song run of Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean but what about The Girl is Mine or The Lady In My Life? In my opinion The Girl is Mine is a bit cheesy, especially with that dialogue interlude part of the way through the song, but overall it is a really nice duet between Paul McCartney and MJ. Besides without them teaming up for this project Michael would have never have known he could buy other people's discographies, like what he did to The Beatles nearly a decade after this. The Lady In My Life is the song everyone seems to forget is on the album, and probably because it is objectively the worst song here. It really feels a bit disjointed from the rest of the more accessible Pop songs as a bit of a wildcard that doesn't always stick the landing with everyone. Literally ever other song here I think is damn near perfect, but this project is held down by two great, but lacking songs that really could have pushed this album into being a definitive best album of all time. I don't have any malice towards anyone who thinks this album is perfect, but for 42 years on its' belt it is surprising the amount of flaws this album has garnered since it was released.

Even if you don’t like him, the album was significant wasn’t it.

Classic

C’mon. Seriously? This isn’t even worth discussing.

Fantastic!

9/10 grew up on this album, first singer i ever fully loved and listened to also my first crush😛 every SINGLE song is good, revolutionised music forever bless him, wasn’t a kiddy fiddler, unheard musicality even though it’s not that long it’s as long as it needs to be. fsv song- wanna be startin something, you’re a vegetable 😛

Childhood fave

A masterpiece. Such a fun album, every tracks a hit. Held up one hundred percent after 40 plus years

5 stars

I didn't appreciate him enough when I was a kid.

For all his oddities, Michael was a deeply talented artist and knew how to entertain.

Hard to find much wrong musically with the biggest selling album of all time.

What is there to say about this album that hasn't been said, It is a genuine classic. Rest in peace MJ his legacy lives on through his magical voice

I mean what can I say. All hits

Absolute bloody banger. An album full of hits and a staple of the 80s sound. Quincy Jones does a greta job throughout the whole album. The weakest song imo is The Girl is Mine, its not bad by any means. My favorite song is probably Wanna Be Starting Something. Overall pretty good album. Iconic. Its full of hits and id listen to it again no doubt 4.5/5

Best pop album ever, no more to say

This record is the sound of my early childhood. Hearing it still brings visions of my parents' stereo system. And despite all of the changes in my musical preferences since I was five, it still makes me dance in living room. G' damn classic!

My brother and I had a DVD years ago with all of MJ's music videos on it and we put it on most days after school, so I really feel I know his discography like the back of my hand. The album gets off to a sensational start. One of the things I like most about Michael Jackson is that his songs are so instantly recognizable. Each track is so rich instrumentally, and Thriller, THRILLER!?! Is there another song like it? It's absolutely insane. Beat It is probably the music video I watched the most and I remember finding absolutely everyone in the video incredibly attractive and thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I also grew up watching tons of Kung Fu/ Hong Kong gang movies - and it always reminded me of them. The imagery, styling, etc. My favourite tracks are Human Nature and P.Y.T (love the chorus). 5 stars, monumental album, clearly deserves to be on this list.

Michael, we're not going to fight about this, okay? Ha, ha, Paul, I think I told you I'm a lover, not a fighter. Eh, I've heard it all before, Michael. She told me that I'm her forever lover, you know, don't you remember? Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another. Is that what she said? Yeah, she said it; you keep dreaming. I DON'T BELIEVEEEE IT!!!!

It’s candidly difficult to rate this album; the array of singles means that anyone who was around when this album was released has heard many of these songs dozens and dozens of times. That overexposure at this point tends to make listening to this album an uninteresting and redundant experience. But, stepping back from that and attempting to appreciate this record and how it must have been experienced at first listen, it is a remarkable collection of funky dance pop performed by one of our greatest showmen at the peak of his powers. So while history has been unkind to both the album and the artist, it’s simply not credible to consider this record anything but a masterpiece.

This is a great album, but the sounds on it are a mix of upcoming 80s sounds and 70 disco. Some of the songs on it feel like they should have come out a few years earlier. Billie Jean being on it blows my mind because I always think of it as early michael.

MICHAEL ZOMBIE

Not even his best album. No one has ever or ever will come close to the king of pop

Was not expecting Paul McCartney to be on this. The less popular songs were ok but sounded quite unremarkable compared to the hits. I think it’s cool that Thriller started the concept of doing music videos as we know them today.

Even if this album wasn’t completely full of classics thriller alone is a good enough song to get it a 5. But thriller to beat it to Billie Jean to human nature to pyt is insane

I already know this album is amazing. So much great music on here. Almost every song was a single.

Already five stars... Don't even need to listen (but if course I will)

Absolutely exceptional. The tracklist is literally: "Thriller", "Beat it", "Billie Jean". And there's way more than these three massive hits here. Put simply, this is the best-selling album of all time and of the 9 tracks, 7 were released as singles. This is obviously separating the music from the man himself.

I don’t think there ever has, or ever will be an artist as globally recognised as MJ. But separating the person from the music etc. It’s more than 3 songs, (PYT is so overlooked) but those 3 songs are so good it’s enough to make this one of the greatest albums of all time. Hell, the videos alone shaped a generation. The layered vocals and just how the songs are assembled are just perfection.

Que dire

I mean, it is one of the best albums of all time. Not a whole lot more to say. Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean in a row is great, but there isn't a bad song on the album

Slam dunk 5 stars here for one of the best albums ever made - I don't know that it would be in my top personal favorites, but its cultural import is nearly unmatched. The production is awesome (thanks Quincy Jones) and the songs speak for themselves for the most part with almost no weak moments - if I had to pick one (and it feels bad to say with it being the one feature from another legend) the weakest track is probably The Girl is Mine, but even the other two lesser-known songs are actually pretty great. Baby Be Mine is a lovely little funk groove and slow ambience of The Lady in My Life is kinda nice too. An absolute classic for a reason!

Pretty incredible how many timeless songs are on the same album.

The man was a hit factory.

One of my favorite movie genres!

I don't know how anyone could give this album a low rating, especially if you were a kid growing up in the 80s like me. This album was everywhere, the songs were everywhere, the videos were everywhere. When you think of the 80s, the first thing that has to come to mind is Michael Jackson. This is just classic!

It’s hard denying this as a five star album. I didn’t realize just how many bangers were on this record until playing it though. MJ must've had a chokehold on the radio in 1982. Also, wild that this contains a track beefing with Paul McCartney over banging the same girl?? Favorite tracks: - Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ - Beat It - Billie Jean - P.Y.T

All time classic. Even Lady in my Life is a banger.

Obra maestra, de los mejores álbumes de la historia. No era consciente de que los mejores éxitos de Michael Jackson estaban la mayoría en un solo disco.

1. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - 9 Extremely catchy song. Musically brilliant, Jackson's vocal range is explored in almost full effect here. It's a range that's absolutely exquisite. It's a little bit too repetitive in parts and the track goes on for too long at the end. 2. Baby Be Mine - 9 Brilliant jazzy pop track. Instrumentally this song is superb and even better than the last track. Just a ridiculously good track. 3. The Girl Is Mine - 5 The duet is very good but the lyrics are just too simple. It's not a bad track, but it's definitely not a track that's ever going to be anything but just an album track. 4. Thriller - 11 An all time classic. Instrumentally flawless and ironic. Lyrically every note has been sung by everyone at some point in their lives. Need more be said? 5. Beat It - 11 Another call time classic. Amazing music video on this too as a side note. Instrumentally very good but lyrically outstanding. Guitars on this are absolutely outstanding. 6. Billie Jean - 11 An all time great. I couldn't choose between this and Thriller for best track on the album but they're awfully close and equally as iconic. Music video is equally iconic. 7. Human Nature - 5 Instrumentally it's a bit of an odd sounding track. Jackson's vocals are fantastic but lyrically it's not as strong as the other tracks and the fact that it comes right after Billie Jean causes the track to be completely overshadowed. Definitely a pass over track that wouldn't come back to listen to again. 8. P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) - 10 A return to the great tracks of the album. Vocally strong, instrumentally it's a lot better than Human Nature and lyrically as well it's a lot better. The "na na na" part in the middle the song is something I would normally slam but it's just the right amount of it so as to add character to the track and not dull it out with repitition. Solid track. 9. The Lady In My Life - 10 What an awesome slow track that highlights the full vocal range of what Jackson had to offer as a singer. Instrumentally it's a brilliant smooth jazz kind of track that gives Jackson a load of space on the second half to explore the highest ends of his range without overdoing it like many other pop artists run into trouble of doing. Excellent track to end the album on. Average Rating: 9 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 4.5 Rounded Up: 5 Stars

Not my thing, but I gotta be objective you know? Some misses, but overall excellent. I particularly enjoyed Wanna Be Startin' Something.

klassikko syystä

Immaculate and clean production. You can slide down it on your ass. There are layers upon layers of sound; most notably, MJ's multi-tracked vocals. I can understand why I thought this sounded like magic as a kid in the 80's. Is that key change at the end of Baby Be Mine auto tune? It should be. Human vocals shouldn't be able to do that. Chipmunk vocals on P.Y.T crazy! 42mins of condensed pop perfection.

Absolutely incredible prodction. Every song is a masterpiece. There were two lesser known songs for me Baby Be Mine and Human Nature, which are fairly forgettable given the sheer power of the other tracks. The song with Paul McCartney is pretty dumb, but the silliness is too charming not to sing along.

Thriller, Billy Jean, Beat It, The girl is mine, The lady of my life, PYT.

Great album. Iconic

Undeniably a classic landmark album, but personally, I’m so familiar with so many of these tracks that they don’t really excite me anymore. I also think it has such an incredibly strong middle but the ending is a bit damp.

Would be a 5 just for Thriller but it also has 8 other perfect pop songs. No one has ever done it like Michael

After the solid, infectious groves of Off the Wall, this album was an evolution in Michael's genius. He crafted pop gems with broad appeal and underneath it all was Michael's bizarre, childlike mind. We didn't know enough to be frightened then. Deserves 5 stars despite that saccharin, cringe worthy She's Mine.

gobless

Todos temas arriba de 8 (salvo human nature, flojeli pero la excepción que confirma la regla)

Day 15, second album I have in my collection. I think I'll save the tarnished legacy talk for the third and final MJ album I get. First, I'll tell a personal anecdote. Once, a girlfriend and I snuck into a beachside Marriott to swim in their enormous pool with her twin brother and a couple of their friends. Shortly after we get in the pool, a DJ/MC that works for the Marriott comes out with her setup. On mic she declares the guests will now participate in her Guess the Song Challenge as if it were the most well known gameshow this side of Lake Okeechobee. Not having properly expressed the rules, I turned to my girlfriend, Emily, and asked, "What's she mean, that she's gonna start playing "Billie Jean" and wait till someone says 'Michael Jackson'?" Approximately, 15 seconds later the DJ began playing "Billie Jean" and indeed let the track continue well into the vocals until someone said "Michael Jackson!". I think the fact that I was able to guess the song before it was played goes to show you how popular this artist and particularly this album are. "Billie Jean" stands as the highest rated song of 1982 on rateyourmusic.com. Put this on after 11am and "Thriller" started appropriately close to midnight. I'm amazed at the sequence and timing of the singles for this album of which "Thriller" came at the end of, subsequently doubling sales of the album a year after its release. First and only single released before the album was the "The Girl Is Mine" a fairly mild song compared to the biggest hits. Paul McCartney comes across as super milquetoast next to a cool, young MJ on that one. "Beat It" with the arena rock guitars is my personal favorite. "P.Y.T." though gives the former a run for its money. Quincy Jones' sole song writing credit was apparently the title of the song after Peggy Lipton wore lingerie for him that had "Pretty Young Thing" written on them. I vaguely remember making a "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" joke before I started watching Buffy and my friend pointed out that I am literally Xander. Just happened to watch the "Dead Celebrities" episode of South Park as I've been going back through the show and catching up on shit I missed and rewatching some classics. I had never seen this one but I remember the first MJ episode well. Dom DeLuise is seated next to MJ on the purgatory flight and earlier today I learned that my Grandmother is buried at the same cemetery as Dom and Tony Bennett are, just a few blocks from where I go for therapy in Long Island City.

Think what you want about Michael's personal life and controversy (not that his corpse defend itself and his legacy...), but this album is a classic! An album with rock riffs (and 80s guitar stars making cameos!), catchy hooks, nice mix of different beats and an overall positive tone. There's a reason this sold the way it did. 'Wanna be startin' somethin'' opens well, and is probably my standout track. I love the use of the African vocals towards the end. Yes, 'Billie Jean' and 'Beat It' are firm favourites from yesteryear. Not that I played A LOT, but 'Billie Jean' always reminds me of GTA Vice City (was that track even in that game?!). I also forgot how much I liked 'P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)'. I bought this album in 2009. 2 months later, my copy was stolen! Then he a month or so afterwards, MJ died. I felt like such a loser buying the album again post death. I did buy a special edition, however with a bunch of Quincy Jones voiceovers at the end, which were actually quite interesting to listen to. It's clearly a 5. But, there are weak points. 'Thriller' is catchy, but if you think about what a thriller actually is and the lyrics he (and the late, great, Vincent Price) are referring to are really more about a horror movie. But, the ultimate insult is teaming up with 80s Paul McCartney (his worse incarnation!). Two guys (one old enough to be the other's Dad) singing about a girl they both like. Macca's voiceovers are punishing as well. I like that you got him back by buying his royalties from under him, Michael! Nice one. Still, 'The Girl is Mine' doesn't pull it away from 5 star status.

This is like liking a girl who you think is way out of your league. You’re not sure how or why, but you blurt out that you’d like to take her out for a drink. To your surprise, she happily agrees. You go out and hit it off, agreeing to a second date. After a couple of dates, you spend the night at her house. You leave her apartment on a sunny Sunday morning, walking down a busy street feeling like you are floating. Your mum calls and you tell her you think you’ve found the one.

Great record. The run of thriller, Beat It and Billy Jean is i e of the best 3 song combos out there.

It’s Thriller, what else needs to be said?

Uno de los mejores discos de la historia. Marcó la historia de varias generaciones y a día de hoy sigue pegando como el primer día. Si tuvieras que reducir la lista de 1001 a 3, este sería uno de esos 3 discos a escuchar antes de morir. 9/10

If I could give it 6 stars I would. Just about every one is banger after banger. This album and Bad are like the Holy Grail; we will never see pop albums of their kind again. Almost every song is legendary, sounding crisp and clean and smooth as butter. Damn this is such a great album. So hard to pick a favorite track among all the legends, but I think I'd have to pick Beat It and Human Nature.

WOW every song was great truly a thriller

1984 album of the year. Changed course of MTV and pop culture forever.

Not every song is perfect but the amount of perfect songs on this album is too high to give it anything less than a 5

Track 8 should be P.G.A (Pretty Great Album)

An all timer. No notes

One of the top 20 albums all time. Every song is killer and THE pop standard.

Yeah hard to beat this, automatic 5 outta 5. Favorites are: Baby Be Mine, Human Nature, P.Y.T.

Best pop album of all time. Most of the songs on the album could be the best song on any other album if they stood alone. Just a thrill to listen to from front to back.

Hard to debate five-star status; even survives the albatross of a clumsy duet with McCartney. The run from "Thriller" to the end is top-notch.

All-time classic, groundbreaking album and music video

Justified masterpiece status. Incredible piece of work.

Listen, MJ is a complex figure. But, this might be the greatest album of all time.

yk the album's good when even the spotify recommended songs after it are fire

An insanely great pop album. Pop music as pop art.

Paris Jackson is Michael Jackson's daughter. If Michael Jackson killed someone, it would be a slaughter. If Michael Jackson was thirsty, he would get some water. Favourite Songs: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing). Least Favourite Songs: NONE.

Thriller - ever heard of it? Five Stars - iconic album cover, iconic songs, Album of the Decade, Michael Jackson's absolute peak imo (and he had a 40 something year career). Just incredible. Dudes from Toto and other incredible session musicians on this one - Quincy Jones - and on and on.

I remember this being one of the first albums I ever bought with my own (pocket) money along with Stevie Wonder: The Definitive Collection. Two for a tenner in HMV on a school trip to London. I feel as though this is a bit of a bridge between the funky disco that came before, and the mighty pop hits that came after. My favourite MJ song has changed many times over the years, and every massive single on this album has taken the crown at some point. I loved the title track since seeing the music video when I was young. That thick and punchy electrifying bassline is ridiculously good and the little picking guitar towards the end that joins it is great. 'Beat It' shows off Michael's slightly harsher vocal style and is so catchy. 'Billie Jean' I didn't like as much back in the day but hearing it now, it's another fantastic track. 'P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)' is another one with a funky bassline and another huge ear worm. My current favourite track of Jackson's though has got to be the opener 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin''. Yet another insanely catchy hook and a monster of a bassline (can you sense a theme?). So those are the really really famous tracks. How do the rest shape up? For me there are two greats, an OK one and a dud. 'Baby Be Mine' is great (with yet another good bassline) and 'Human Nature' has such a dreamy, ethereal guitar lick running through it coupled with Jackson's airy vocals, it's a gorgeous track. I actually think that the duet with McCartney is the worst track here, which is crazy really considering who sings on it. I personally think because of the news worthy shenanigans, the controversy, and the stage presence, people forget or overlook how good a vocalist Michael Jackson was. From soft and delicate, to high pitched falsetto, to an almost throaty growl, Michael could do it all. This is honestly like a greatest hits album, and despite the couple of skips, it's an easy five stars, and I think it would be difficult to convince me otherwise.

Amazing. I never realized just how jam-packed Thriller was. No wonder it sold so well. Ended on the lowest note of the album for me, but that’s by the by

The singles run on this album is crazy. If you asked me to name Michael Jackson songs, they would be on this album. If there were half ratings I think this would score a 4.5 but I will round it up for its staying power.

I remember watching a tape of Thriller at my mates house in what must have been the late 80s. I liked this album then and I still like it now. The only track I thought was weaker was the Paul McCartney one. Everything else was excellent.

Repeat listen

Excellent

Shit makes you wanna dance

Iconic was soll ich sagen

obviously

Classic album I always skip the girl is mine though...I just can never wrap my head around that one. Baby be mine is an underrated gem in my opinion. PYT is one of my fav songs ever. What can I say its peak 🤷🏿‍♀️

Una joya del pop.

I don't really need to tell people how good this album is. It's iconic. The trouble is in deciding which single song to add to my 1001 best of playlist. While my personal favorite is "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", I think "Beat it" is the clear winner here.

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of pop music. At best, it's typically insipid boring swill, and at worst it's just plain irritating. That said, Michael Jackson is the king of pop and rightly so. This is great songwriting. This is an excellent album.

One of the best pop albums of all time. Nuff said.

An excellent album by the Pop Master sickly produced great rhythm and musicality. Several wonderful songs with the ultimate Halloween music video on Thriller.

A perfect album. No notes.

MJ at his finest

I would love to have a dialogue with a big Michael Jackson fan about the bizarre, manufactured innocence that is encapsulated in the lyrics on every track of this album. Was it intentional? Whose idea was it? Would the album have been less successful if Michael Jackson gave a singular detail about how he would have touched the women (girls) he sings about here, rather than resorting to totally insincere vagueness? >_>... This record is endlessly danceable and very thoughtfully pieced together. I don't even mind the silly Paul Beatles duet. Billie Jean was always a favorite on my ipod shuffle. Before anything else I am a Barthesian, and so this must get my stamp of approval.

Pop music doesn’t get better than this

cómo va s tener tantos bangers un album

Regardless of what you think of hin or his music, this album has one of the greatest 5 song runs ever - it goes Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, Human Nature, and ends with PYT. When people speak of his greatness as an entertainer, this is what they are talking about.

What can be said, has been said. Period!

Essentially a Toto album with dance beats, all fronted by Michael freaking Jackson--what's not to love?

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat down and listened to Thriller all the way through. Over half the songs are classic singles, so I’d heard most of it before just not in sequence. Fantastic production with world class musicians.

human nature went through my body like cocaine...

incredible. amazing. perfect. show stopping. never been done before. hit after hit after hit. i listened to it three times in a row until china love distracted me 💔

Greatest selling album of all time from the King of Pop and probable king of pedos. Nearly every song is super resplendent and hyper iconic and even the weakest final song Lady In My Life is still really lovely. Probably a trillion dollars worth of talent with MJ, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, Vincent Price, Toto, Seawind Horns, Louis Johnson, Greg Philliganes, Paulinho Da Costa etc. Out of all the incredible tracks here, PYT is by a distance the sparkliest, divinest, chipmunky and lyrically least appropriate gem here. Easy 5 stars.

The 5th star is probably nostalgia but this one is a pop music masterpiece

Maybe the greatest pop album ever. So many great songs (and one dud, looking at you McCartney)

What do I need to say about this album that hasn’t be said already?

Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, what a combination. Nothing comes close to the brilliance of pop writing that connects the whole world, as these two produced. Timeless hit after timeless hit. Might be the most legendary combination of three songs in a row with Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean. Legendary.

I try to ignore everything about an artist's personal life and personal failings when listening to music. Given that there is no way this album gets anything but 5 stars. Anyone who rates it less either is basing their rating on rumors of his personal life or just being pretentious. I'd say 80's pop music is one of my least favorite genres to listen to but this is still 5 stars.

As Dave Chappelle said on the stand “he made Thriller, Thiller”

There's no doubt this is a 5 star album. Incredible music, artistry, dancing, album art, lyrics, innovation. 5 out of 5.

Another banger from MJ, showing us why he was known as the King of Pop

Have this album and it’s great!

Billie Jean, thriller, beat it and wanna be starting something are all incredible - which is why despite being 44 years old - everyone still know them. For those songs alone 5 stars. I am not a fan of MJs slow has but am overlooking them for this review

It's not really my thing. But it is so well produced and put together and contains some of the biggest pop hits in history. If I am enjoying this kind of pop it must be damn good.

Hard not to give this a 5 although there are a few awful tunes.

Even better than "Thriller, Also".

no doubt this is the most famous most selled album in history, this is straight fire

top tier, i understand the hype. apart from the famous ones, human nature was my fav

A hee hee hee!

Monumental, easy 5 stars. Maybe the best 5 song run ever Rating: 4.8

Really good. Classic.

Love the art not the artist.

What else needs to be say about this album? Even with a dud like "The Girl is Mine" (and to a lesser extent, "The Lady in My Life" and "Baby Be Mine"), it's one of the greatest of all time, even with everything we know about Michael Jackson now. The controversy around him will inevitably fade, but the songs will remain.

I mean, what’s the point of giving me this album? 😂😂😂

Classic

Nur die Musik zählt! Perfektes Album ohne Lückenfüller!

Classic

Yep. 5 stars.

On influence and impact alone this album is an all-time great. Fortunately, it's also an all-time great on musical merits. Richly layered, rhythmically complex, and wide ranging in its influences, Thriller really is quite an experience.

It’s one of the best. One of my all time favorites.

Maaaaaaan. What a sick album to go through again. The compositions, the vocal dynamics, the groovy beats. Overall great production.

The most sold album of all time is also the most signified! Although, once you get past that maybe you can appreciate how perfectly all these songs stand on their own. Will revisit later

If any album had to be the highest selling of all time, this is a pretty good album to pick. I've never understood why people like the Paul McCartney song, I think it is pretty boring, but besides that this album has some all time bangers on it. Low 5.

I’m the guy who did not own this back in 1983. I maybe listened to the album once. My plan was to listen with an open mind. Great opener, and then two filler tracks. But then…killer song after killer song. Amazing production. Fantastically performed. It is what it is for a reason.

I mean...it's thriller

It has been years since I actually listened to the song Thriller as I was so freaked out by the spoken part in the middle as a child that I would flat out refuse to listen to it. It defo slaps tho

I do not condone his acts in his personal life. But we all KNOW this album changed the music industry and really helped the Black community. Certified Bop Banger Machine.

Still a classic

just hit after hit after hit that also feel like each one is a different genre

goated

Tightly produced by Quincy Jones, this album is 9 songs of tight funk-pop (& sometimes rock) perfection. In each song, Jackson sounds youthful but not juvenile & trite. The lyrics are filled with themes of paranoia and darkness within the ultimate emotion of love. Jackson completely understood how his voice could be used not only as a melodic tool, but a percussive one. In Thriller, his high pitched grunts and oohs and ahhs are interwoven in his melodic delivery. In the climax of Wanna Be Starting Something, the vocal pieces melt between his belting voice and Afro-beat chants. When MJ does rock with both Paul McCartney & Eddie Van Halen, he breaks late 70s rock's insistence of manly appearance with his boyish R&B swagger. I could talk more about this, but you should just listen to it.

Шикарный альбом.

Super Dope

Probably the quintessential pop album.

God damn classic!!!

Banger after banger

Still a 5 star album even if he's a nonce

Can the rest of the artists on this list listen to this and cop the fuck on. This is what music about. It's meant to be fun, exciting and catchy. Too many great songs on this. The easiest 5 I will ever give on this list

Nothing I can really add to this discussion. This album is wall to wall bangers. Thriller into Beat It into Billie Jean is a crazy sequence!

Doesn’t need much of an explanation. Some of the Michaels best songs. Best selling album of all time. Pop.

I’ve never actually listened to this album from start to finish before - only really focusing on the singles - but every song is a gem. And the production is stunning too. So much still to discover on the inevitable repeat listenings.

One of the all time greatest albums of all time. So many hits.

5 stars obvs

It's not th best-selling album of all time for no reason. Although there's a couple forgettable tracks, it'd be hard to deny this pop leviathan its rightful 5 stars.

Great album with some variety and strong vocals by Michael. The number of solid songs in this album is amazing.

Thriller-Beat It-Billie Jean has got to be the best 3 song run on any pop album ever. He was a dodgy bloke but an incredible musician. This deserves to be one of the biggest albums ever. 5 stars.

Awesome album! Loved it then and love it now!

I never paid attention to the last track. It's great

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - 5/5 Baby Be Mine - 4/5 The Girl Is Mine - 4/5 Thriller - 5/5 Beat It - 5/5 Billie Jean - 5/5 Human Nature - 5/5 P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) - 5/5 The Lady in My Life - 3/5 Average score: 4.6/5 (rounding up) you're a 🥦🥕🍆🌽 vegetable 🌽🍆🥕🥦

Well, this is a nice album. Not too long, not too short. Just good music.

A classic. Opening was fantastic. Had a great energy throughout. If you need one album for a party, this would be it.

Top of the top. Legendary stuff

truly one of the best albums of all time. no misses!!!!

Yeah, easy 5. These still slap today! Great instrumentals and vocal work. 'The Girl Is Mine' is my fave.

This was such a huge part of my childhood. I remember playing this record as a child, listening to the end of thriller when Vincent Price talks over and over again. Upon listening to this again and knowing a bit more now about the context when the album came out, this one changed the game. Made pop music and pop stars as we know it. Hit gold with this one.

Wanted to have a more critical reaction, but this still sounds amazing.

I don't see how any album that has Thriller, Beat It, AND Billie Jean can't be given a 5. Even with the four dud songs, it still is undeniably one of the most influential albums of all time both on the music and video scene.

What a brilliant album. No doubt about why it was a smash. So many amazing songs and great production.

loved it

Pre-listening thoughts: oh my god yes dude literally after a streak of twos and mid albums I am so excited to get this and Jagged Little Pill back to back 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 thank you generator Post/during listening thoughts: bro okay so I legit know every song off this album except Baby Be Mine and The Lady in My Life. Baby Be Mine’s instrumental legit sounds like it could be in Sonic 3 (game not movie). And people still wanna say MJ didn’t contribute to the soundtrack. Also let’s not understate Toto’s impact on this album. It’s not the whole band, they were just session musicians, yeah yeah whatever. Steve Porcaro wrote Human Nature and you can feel their vibe on this album. If you like this you genuinely might enjoy their debut album (Georgy Porgy is goated) or Toto IV (The Girl is Mine kind of reminds me of Rosanna or Waiting for Your Love). I would feel guilty if I didn’t acknowledge the pedo allegations and those definitely tainted my enjoyment of this album. But I cannot deny that this is insanely good music. But PYT aged like milk. But also why wasn’t Alvin chipmunk credited for the end of PYT 🤨 9/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: maybe Fav tracks: it’s almost hard picking a favorite from all of these really overplayed hits that somehow I still enjoy. Human Nature has always been a fav tho. Also shoutout to the glee cover which actually ate idc Least fav tracks: none

Genius. 80's Classic. King of Pop. mic drop

All killer no filler

Greatest pop album of all time. Number one selling album of all time. Made Michael Jackson the king of pop. Even with all of MJ’s weirdness and pedo-ness this album is clearly worthy of: 5⭐️

Banger after banger.

Pretty medium, but I do like tambourine man

Sensational. Only bangers. Never listened to the whole album, but this has to be one of the greatest albums of all time.

This is essentially a faultless album with every song being very strong and iconic for a reason. A slight dip in the song The Girl is Mine with Paul McCartney but aside from that the album seemed to have a theme of starting lighter and delving into darker tones starting with Thriller, Billie Jean and Beat It. An easy 5/5 overall.

The King!! Started boppin' my head 10 seconds into Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and didn't stop (Okay maybe just for the girl is mine). The definition of timeless music. The middle part of the album with probably 3 of the most massive iconic and timeless hits of ever produced probably won't ever be replicated.

I don't care if it's nostalgia or familiarity this is THE masterpiece of pop. It's lasted the test of time. Love it. First 5/5.

King of pop! Died way too young. Let others rule his life. Sad! Great singer/entertainer. Great album. A classic.

every. single. song. is. a. banger. simply iconic

I was just starting high school when this came out, and I had been a DJ for a couple of years at that point, primarily at school and church dances, as well as the occasional private party. It was AWESOME to get to experience the release of this record and Prince "Purple Rain" and see the transformation of pop music that occurred as a result.

Didn't even have to think about it.

Jó lemez, kb ennyi

6 star

One of the best albums of all time!

Favourite songs; Thriller, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

The Girl Is Mine is fairly terrible - in general the slower songs on here are the weakest. But how can you give an album with Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller less than five stars?

One of the greatest albums of all time every song a classic was so happy this one came up

Coming into this review, it's going to be hard not to give this a 5 because this was truly a generational pop album. It still is (and probably will remain) the best-selling album of all time. I didn't realize that 7 of the 9 songs became singles, but that feels insane! The 3-song stretch of Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean might be the greatest of all time. They'd be #1 singles on just about any other pop album in their own right. Feels like having the LeBron Miami Heat on the song roster. All the upbeat songs here are truly great and fun to groove to. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, and PYT all are hits. For me, the mixing of the slower R&B songs make me question if this is really a 5 in my book. I liked Baby Be Mine, but didn't like The Girl is Mine very much (also, redundant much?). Also didn't care for Human Nature sandwiched between the good stuff. Just a snoozer of a song and one I'd easily skip on re-listens. The Lady In My Life was a good song to end the album on. This lands pretty squarely at like 4.5 stars for me, but I will bump it up to 5 status for all the positives I laid out above. This album wouldn't be in my personal top-10 albums of all time, but I understand why it is for most people (even though MJ was a pedo at the end of the day).

Most recognizable album cover in history? Probably third to Abbey Road and Dark Side of the Moon, but it has to be up there. Funky groovy hits, exactly what I expected. Don't love that most pop albums always feel the need to have ballads on them. I really just want the catchy tunes to be honest. Pretty Young Thang is one that I have never really heard (I'm sure it's been played somewhere I was listening in my life) but it was a great "deeper" cut if you can call it that. Feels like it could be on Random Access Memories. Cruisin' to a 5

I really don't think there's anything I can say about this album that hasn't already been said. He's classic, iconic and a genuine, literal superstar for a reason. This album, itself, is the same. It's an absolute beast musically. I will admit, I haven't really listened to that much MJ. I did briefly dip into his best hits as a teenager, which even then was still after his death. But I have never listened to a full album of his from front to back. So, based on my sample size of one, I feel like this is his most iconic. It has some of the biggest songs, and most of the rest were not unfamiliar to me either. Melodies and lyrics I was familiar with without realising it, owing the pervasiveness and sheer scale of his music. Although, I certainly wasn't familiar with the "you're a vegetable" proclamation of Wanna Be Startin' Something, that one caught me off-guard and... may need some explaining. I was actually really intrigued by this, so I went and looked up the lyrics; the closing unquestionably recognisable refrain (you know the one) has a translation/etymology link to... peeling vegetables! So that's... interesting! There's a couple forgettable tracks like Baby Be Mine and The Lady in My Life, but that doesn't detract from how incredibly loud, funky and satisfying this album is to listen to. Incredible production. Favourite Track: Thriller (of course), followed closely by Human Nature

I gain more appreciation for Jackson as I get older. This is a solid album that I've never listened to in its entirety before. It may not be my go-to music, but it's damn good.

Off the wall no 11, um dos melhores usos de synths, drum machines e samples do período. Simplesmente não envelhece

C'mon it's Michael Jackson y'all. Thrilleeeeer! 🧟

Альбом - веха, тут просто хит на хите

Great music, still sounds fresh despite its age. Just perfect.

Perfect album

Ok...this one truly has 'all the jams'. oof.

Outstanding. MJs magnum opus, without a doubt

I've said it before and I'll say it again: fuck the pedophiles. Also this is kind of an awesome album. But still fuck the pedophiles.

Best run of three songs in pop music? Probably. Best selling album for a reason

Wanna be startin somethin is such a good song and then this just doesn’t stop. Outrageously good run of songs

Classic, very good.

# Album Name: Thriller # Artist: MJ # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: What a way to start the album - wanna be starting something. The bass is popping. Those backing vocals are on fire. The duet with Paul McCartney is a little corny, perhaps a bit cheesy but a nice pop cheesefest. Then the trifecta begins - thriller, beat it and billy jean. Wow. It even backs up onto human nature and PYT. Not quite at the previous three's level but an absolutely banging track. What an album # Top Tunes: The whole sha-bang. # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Timeless frikin masterpiece

A classic with hits from front to back. Very little filler, you almost couldn't call any of these "b tracks"

Almost perfect

Not many records that promised and delivered as much as this one did. Jackson solidified his name with this collection of ear worms. Musically, it is infectious and just on the premise of the melodies and beats, should prevent any listener from keeping their foot still.

I’m no big MJ fan, buuut there is no argument in my mind that this is superlative work even if it isn’t what I’d listen to on the daily, or even monthly…yearly.

Separating the art from the artist, this is an incredible album. It flows perfectly, the flexes of Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen truly capture the era and the fact that MJ had endless powers. “Human Nature” is one of my absolute favorite MJ songs, too. Could listen to it on loop.

This was easy.

Who wrote this list? One minute it's some super obscure album that has no legacy or even a cult following, the next it's the greatest pop album of all time. 5 stars for Thriller, an essential 20th century masterpiece any music lover must hear before they die. It is absolutely essential to understanding all pop music that has followed, Michael Jackson, and the '80s as a decade of American pop culture (and the '80s revival of the 2010s). 1 star for this list. After we finish this project, give me a half hour, a cup of coffee and a red pen and I bet I can get the list down to 500.

5 stars for the album. 10 starts for the Thriller video.

My parents have Thriller on vinyl—12/10. Michael’s playing with a tiger cub in the centerfold and there are elaborate caricatures in the liner notes, including one of Paul McCartney and Mike pulling the high-heeled subject of “The Girl Is Mine” apart in their fervor. Undoubtedly one of the 101 or even 51 albums to listen to before you die. Mama say, Mama saw!

Literally no fillers. So many hits and even lesser known songs are just so good. Love the Paul and MJ collab on this album also.

Probably the apex of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles career

The epitome of a 5. It’s cohesive, but where will it go next? Not all bangers but the sleepers have their place. Extra credit for production and choreographed dances that consumed popular culture.

A genre defining masterpiece. A true evolution of wha music was capable of and the biggest pop artist of possibly all time displaying it. Quincy Jones cements his legacy here as well.

Amazing album. Worth the hype.

I bought this album pretty much when it came out. It’s a masterpiece. Billy Jean and Beat It were played endlessly on MTV and the album sold a few billion copies. It’s one of the few 70’s albums you can still pick up at Goodwill.

He made Thriller. THRILLER.

A classic. I wish I could go back and listen to this one for the first time again. Beat It, Thriller, Human Nature, and Billie Jean are all time great tracks even if the first two are so overplayed it's hard to keep the same hype about them. PYT and Wanna Be Startin' are also great. I know That Girl is Mine gets the most hate but I honestly kind of like it. It's Lady on My Life and Baby Be Mine that really bog me down honestly. Easily a top 100 album of all time, even with a few warts.

The Girl Is Mine to Billie Jean is an all-time classic string of songs. Putting the artist vs art discussion aside it's a 5/5 album.

One poor song at the end can’t derail a 5-star album the rest of the way. Assuming you can also separate the art from the artist.

Quite literally the album that got me into music at the age of 10. I can’t be objective about it, but if not for “the girl is mine” it’d be a 10/10 for me. It’s still a solid 9/10. Will there be anyone like MJ again? Fave: Billie Jean is probably the best pop track in the history of music but IDK, I have a soft spot for the mamasemamasamamacoosas of wanna be startin’ something.

I did not realize this album was more singles than not. Incredible.

wow i think this is a great album. Michael Jackson is pretty cool.

THE imperial pop album to end all others ofc, which is making me realize i need to do some more conscious thinking ab the whole concept, it scratches my historical brain to think about how artists successfully Meet The Moment (or even more interestingly, *create* the moment). my articulation for Bad where i proposed the appeal of MJ's music lies in the mix of Perfectionist Order and carefully deployed (or at even Simulated) looseness rings even more vividly here, and its hard to imagine that any of his other records or maybe even any other records Period nail it in quite the same way. for how terrifyingly Exact everything is, it rly does never feel cold or stiff, i kinda dont even know how he did it ghjsdghjsd. most obvious culprit tho is his expressiveness as a singer...i thought rly intently this time about how many MJ hooks are often iconic more for how he delivers them than the melodic content on its own, u cant mention them casually without imitating his inflections. i Think im pro-the girl is mine. i rly rly rly like that the title track on the biggest album ever and one of the most famous songs in history details something as mundane as taking ur date to a horror movie as an excuse 2 physically comfort them

Overall a legendary album. I thought about taking off a star for "The Girl is Mine" but it's so cringe worthy that I loop back around into liking it again.

IT’S THRILLER!!!!!!! Favorite Track: Wanna Be Starting Something

5/5. This is a classic, been listening to it my whole life.

very fun listen, that mcartney feature and human nature are my favorites but they are all timeless classics.

So many hits from this one. Of course it's a classic.

Wall-to-wall bangers.

Michael is getting his 5

He hee, shamone

This would be interesting. Biggest selling album ever. I obviously know the three big hits in the middle (title track, Beat It and Billie Jean), but the rest would be a fresh listen. It’s a cool album, funky and groovy, great playing. I do have to say that none of the songs touch Billie Jean and Beat It, but that’s fine. Five stars.

I mean come on, how can this be less thana 5???

Pedo or not, that is an amazing album

Literally nothing but bangers, it's unreal.

Blijft overeind staan, ondanks de figuur van MJ en alles wat er rond hangt. Ongeveer elk nummer op deze plaat is een klepper. 5.0

Great grooves, brass, backing vocals, bass, and drums and of course vocals on the tracks make them all enjoyable to listen to, everything is very cohesive. Didn't realize that Rihanna sampled "Wanna be starting something". "Baby be mine" is also nice - really like the runs in that one. Especially enjoyed: "Human Nature, Thriller, Billie Jean," makes sense why it's a classic 5/5.

Pop. Have this on vinyl. Fantastic album

I love it

bangers no skips

Classic!

Masterpiece.

I love ‘Thriller’. It’s a formative album from my childhood. Sure, ‘Off The Wall’ is probably objectively just that little bit better, but it was ‘Thriller’ that got me obsessed with music. It was ubiquitous growing up, I heard it everywhere. I got gifted the album on cassette for my 12th birthday and listened to it again and again until I wore the tape out. Then as I grew older, I bought it on CD and then vinyl. I keep coming back to it again and again and again. I must have listened to it hundreds of times from start to finish in my life. It’s the ultimate pop album. It still feels like an event record, a phenomenon, all these years later. The production and performances, flawless. Every song is a killer, even the filler. Still the biggest album of all time for a reason.

I mean.. anything other than a 5 is just crazy. This is a masterpiece

5.0 - Awesome

Finally a good album.

It’s a stone cold 5 for me, even with how much I loathe “The Girl Is Mine”
