Reviews (page 2 of 14)
I truly believe that Queen isn’t really a band with particularly great albums but Bohemian Rhapsody is obviously a masterpiece.
Controversial: Queen have some of the best singles of all time but absolutely no good albums. Disclaimer: I love Queen, but I think they are the one band where it's acceptable to say your favourite album is their Greatest Hits.
You know how every Beatles album has some stupid songs but you forgive them because there’s also a stack of genuine masterpieces there…. Take the White Album… 6 stupid tracks (Wild Honey Pie anyone?), 24 bangers. Every Queen album does that too. The difference is that their ratio is 50:50. For every Bohemian Rhapsody you have ‘I’m in love with my car’ I’m going to average it out and give half marks.
I bunked off school with my mate to queue at the record shop when this came out.
Harmony - thy art a delight and a nuisance.
There are very few things I dislike more than the marriage of rock music and cabaret/music hall. …and I say that as a Kinks fan. This record is excellently produced, which distracts from A Night at the Opera’s haughty cabaret-rock. Musically, however, Queen has never really been for me.
Queen is so ass dude
Queen is so weird. Sometimes their songs are just so weird and irritating, but people love them. Sometimes their songs totally rock out and I also love them. All the respect, but I just found out this impossibly irritating.
rip freddie mercury but this is just a little too british for me, and i don't mean that in a positive way
A Night at the Opera While You’re My Best Friend and of course Bohemian Rhapsody are excellent if a bit overplayed, after a few listens this added to my feeling that Queen aren’t really for me. Although I think I liked it more than Sheer Heart Attack I still have the same issues of struggling to connect with it and finding Freddie’s vocals, May’s guitar and their overall melodic style hard work. Death on Two Legs is better than the more overtly show tune/cabaret/vaudeville/music hall songs like Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendezvous and Good Company but on repeat listens it felt like the vocal histrionics and guitar sounds were all there was to it, the melody is kind of unsatisfying. I actually quite liked I’m in Love With My Car, Roger’s earnest daftness is quite appealing, and I thought ‘39 was good in a folk sea shanty singalong way. Sweet Lady is probably the most successful rocker along with Prophet Song, although again I started to find them less enjoyable the more I listened to them. I know Love of My Life is considered one of their best songs, but I struggle with it, again I just find it hard to enjoy the vocals and the harmonic and melodic style. Perhaps my preconceptions and biases have got the better of me, but I found this harder to like the more I listened, it was probably somewhere in the 3s at first but after repeat listens I started to like it less and less, and despite the excellence of You’re My Best Friend and some other decent tracks, I can’t really see myself listening again. Maybe 4, but ultimately for me its a 3, Bohemian Rhapsody and You’re My Best Friend are of course excellent, and I liked Death on Two Legs, I’m in Love with My Car and ‘39 but there are at least 3 awful songs in Lazing on Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendezvous and Good Company with the rest a bit too fillery for me. Unlikely to listen again, but 2 feels too low for the quality, so I’ll say 3. 👫👫 Playlist submission: You’re My Best Friend
The most annoying person you knows' favourite album. Best Song: Bohemian Rhapsody Worst Song: God Save the Queen
max 2 for any guy singing about loving a car or for singing about a woman as though she is a car should be max 1. what the hell you guys.
i lost my taste for queen.
Always really disliked this band so hard to be objective. Dislike the dampness the genre hopping, the harmonies, even May's guitar tone....and I really hate B. Rhapsody. Yuk. Can't give it 3.
I don't like Queen
Not a fan - queen suck
I just can't get into Queen, the theatricality is really unappealing to me. Not unbearable to listen to though.
Queen (in general) are too faux-opera/ music-hall for my tastes. This album being no exception.
i respect what queen do but i just can't be arsed with it. freddie mercury was proper fun, but the space nonce bugs me for some unknown reason, like why should i not like him? he seems like a nice man, he's interested in mind boggling things and he built his own guitar out of a coffee table, i should think he's brilliant but he's just like that fart smell that you get if you put a ham sandwich in a bag for too long. don't really like roger taylor either, why is he famous? drummers only get famous when they're dead good or sing. he should be like the secret unknown member of queen who was even in the famous kaleidoscope thing on the bohemian rhapsody video but i've never heard his name.
Try as I might, I always find Queen more irritating than interesting.
Trash album from a trash band. Facile, pompous, pretentious, dull twee, insincere and self absorbed. Unpopular opinion - Roger Taylor is the best singer in Queen! Two stars because I ‘You’re My Best Friend’ is pretty nice.
I don't like Queen and I did not like this album. What can I say about an album in which Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the least pretentious on the album. Yikes!!! 2 🌟
Stylistically all over the place. It misses the mark more often than it hits. Bohemian Rhapsody is an obvious classic but the rest of it ranges from mediocre to complete tripe.
Pompous stadium rock
Rubbish
Queen are the most overrated band that has ever existed and I doubt anyone else will come close.
What’s more boring than a night at the opera? This album.
Just awful. The few good ideas go by too quick. Music made for high school drama dorks
Overrated, pretentious slop.
This LP is something I would NOT sit down to listen to (still mowing). Where's the rock? It's dated and not entertaining. I wanted to like this from 1975. "Opera" used all 24-tracks of the Studer when it was not necessary. For the love of Mary, a country tune!
I honest to God don’t know which I hate more, this album for itself or this album for what it represents in music history. It’s the horrifically perfect culmination of everything that went wrong with music in the 70s. Often claimed as parody, the reality is so overblown and ridiculous you feel like a baroque banqueting hall has just collapsed on your head. The gushing critics often miss how much of this album is lightweight filler material. Trad jazz pastiches and the like don’t really constitute musical progress, they constitute musical novelty at most. I honestly don’t mind if I never have to hear Bohemian fucking Rhapsody ever again. One star only because the system won’t let me give none.
pompous overblown tosh
Yay, another Queen album. While “Queen II” had some redeeming qualities, mainly that the first half of the record was decent rock music, this record has really nothing going for it aside from Bohemian Rhapsody. The problem for me is that the only redeeming song on the album is so wildly overplayed that I could go the rest of my life without hearing it again, and I’d die perfectly content. I just don’t feel like the world has ever needed rock operas, and this is a very good example of why. I dislike almost everything about Freddie Mercury’s vocal style. I understand that he’s technically gifted, and has an impressive vocal range, something about the way he sings just really rubs me the wrong way. I really hope I don’t have to listen to anymore Queen after this. 1*
I'm not a Queen fan.
An Night at the Opera by Queen presents a polarising experience for listeners, especially for those outside the band's fanbase. The album showcases Freddie Mercury's formidable vocal prowess, standing out as the band's strongest element. While it attempts to diversify with other members taking lead vocals, these efforts occasionally disrupt rather than enhance the album's flow. The tendency towards extravagance and indulgence often overshadows its artistic merits, with tracks feeling like disjointed showcases rather than a cohesive whole. Personally, I find An Night at the Opera exemplifies everything I dislike about Queen -excessive theatrics, over-the-top arrangements, and a lack of musical restraint. Despite its nods to experimentation and diverse influences, none of it resonates with my taste. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None
Pretty bad
With the exception of Bohemian Rapsody, the rest of the album is no longer convincing, even Freddie Mercury's inspiring vocals can't change that.
who listens to this garbage?
5/5
Loved this album (obviously). 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is on this record, therefore it will receive an instant five stars, which needs no further explanation. However, aside from the aforementioned song and 'Love of my life' and 'You're my best friend', I hadn't listened to the others before with much intent. I was especially surprised by 'Death on two legs' which I will be adding to my regular Queen listening repertoire. Honorable mention for 'I'm in love with my car' which I thought was hilarious, and 'Seaside rendezvous' for the mock instrumental bridge with Taylor's impression of a kazoo. Every song on this album is intentional in its production and musicality, the experimental sound is SO cool, and an excellent example of why Queen really are the best rock band to ever exist.
Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Masterpiece - Death On Two Legs is incredible. Lazing is is great. Roger Taylor shines with his vocal turn. You're My Best Friend is perfect pop. It just goes on. The Prophet's Song might be the best thing they ever did. Plus there's the small matter of Bohemian Rhapsody. When I said Sheer Heart Attack MIGHT be my favourite Queen album? This is the other contender.
Nostalgia. But so awesome, silly, beautiful. 10/10
Aparte de Bohemian Rhapsody, The Prophet's Song?? '39?? Está guapisimo, si parece prog a veces.
Insane production and musicality. Will I listen to it regularly? Probably not. But a huge achievement.
That hit the spot.
top de top
YES
its queen 🤷🏻
Masterpiece! Freddie's vocal is the best! "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a masterpiece.
You can never go wrong with Queen. Plus, A Night at the Opera has one of the best songs ever written on it (Bohemian Rhapsody), so that makes it even better in my book.
Such a great album. Probably Queen's best album and has one of the greatest rock songs of all time. The album goes together and just seen like every some for in the album.
Is it fair to say this could be a prog album? Or at least Queen's proggiest album? The sheer scale and ambition of the arrangements are just mind-blowing, blending operatic vocals, heavy rock riffs, and theatrical storytelling into a masterpiece. "You're My Best Friend" is such a beautiful love song. Just imagine writing a song like that for your wife and then getting a powerhouse vocalist like Freddie Mercury to sing it to the world. Then you have "'39", which reminds me of some of Paul McCartney's Scottish folk style songs during his Wings era, giving the record a really cool, rustic acoustic texture. The transition from "The Prophet's Song" right into "Love of My Life" is completely flawless. Brian May's work on the harp on "Love of My Life" was absolutely incredible, proving he is just as much of a genius on acoustic strings as he is with an electric guitar. And of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the ultimate singalong classic. Adding to that, the way the album balances these massive, over-the-top sonic experiments with genuinely intimate, stripped-back moments is pure genius. They throw everything at the wall...vaudeville jazz, heavy metal, symphonic pop, etc. and somehow make it all feel like one cohesive, legendary theatrical experience. It is a stunning showcase of a band operating at the absolute peak of their creative powers, where even the bizarre deep cuts feel like essential puzzle pieces. Favorite song: "You're My Best Friend"
Amazing album
Maybe I don't love every single song on here- but I love the creativity.
A must listen album. Objectively a bonkers album mixing a wide variety of styles. The title sets you up to expect the dramatic. Death on Two Legs is a fave and mixes operatic vibes with some rockin guitars. Not a seamless album, but a landmark for sure
An iconic album with a unique sound and approach blending rock with opera shouldn’t work but it does, I remember the scene of them pitching it to the label in bohemian rhapsody. Brilliant album, 39 is one of my favourite songs by them
The best queen record there is. And also one of the best rock records.
Interesting that the first three songs on the album didn't chart and the biggest is the second last. Followed by a rendition of God save the Queen. To me it rates very highly for musicianship and tunes. Lots of different directions. Three stand out tracks for me including my favourite Queen hit. 4 or 5 stars for me. Going 5 for the afore hinted at '39.
Masterpiece
I’m in love with my car good actually?
Definitely worthy of this list, even if it is only for Bohemian Rhapsody. But, there are so many other great songs on this record as well.
it was fine, i did not like the first song on the list but maybe if i listen to it more i’ll like it then. 39’ was so nice
4.5
Greatest Hits and Greatest Hits II are greatest Queen but this is still also essential. The sound of four genius lads emphatically entering the top of the their musical game. A magical masterpiece all round. Bohemian Rhapsody is a number one single on multiple occasions, general massive bulging epic evergreen cultural phenomenon and everything else ain’t that far behind. ‘I’m Your Best Friend?’ Gee. Thanks, Queen? ‘You’re In Love With Your Car?’ Well, whatever floats your boat… I mean car. ‘Death On Two Legs?’ Aren’t you fierce. Get all that jaunty seaside shizzle on here. Get that George Formby banjolele shizzle on here. Get all of it on here, it’s all utterly fantastic.
It's Queen.
This was fantastic. It was brazen, outlandish, and flamboyant - exactly what you'd expect and want from Queen. Front to back, just a spectacular spectacle.
Outstanding. The complex and engaging instrumental arrangements paired with thoughtful and playful lyrics and Queen's iconic vocal harmonies make for one of the all-time greatest albums ever made.
MARAVILHOSO!!
Far and away Queen's best album. That's mostly because it is their most cohesive statement and contains the most interesting deep cuts. I love the short Music Hall vignettes that pop-up occasionally and how they contrast with the ambitious operatic moments. There's also a very psychedelic folk tune ("'39"), a gorgeous ballad ("Love of My Life"), and chill song about friendship ("You're My Best Friend"), and a strange song about... a car ("I'm in Love With My Car"). The follow-up, A Day at the Races, aimed to reach the same heights as this, but apart from a couple of moments it does not succeed, thus cementing Queen's reputation as a singles band. There are however other Queen albums I do enjoy as a whole, like the hit parade of The Game, or the grand emotionality of Innuendo. And yes, it may sound trite and cliché to say, but "Bohemian Rhapsody" really is one of the best rock songs of all time. Key tracks: Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to...) Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon You're My Best Friend '39 Love of My Life Bohemian Rhapsody
That is killer Queen taking you out to A Night At The Opera! Over the top, very theatrical, great imagery as they evolved their image. They were already big, but this album vaulted them to stardom. Lots of different musical styles, two smash hits that still get play on classic rock stations, and the balance of the songs are good (if ya like Queen.) Always wondered about Best Friend because the rumors at the time were that all four members were gay. Makes a sweet twofer with 39. Harmonies and piano behind Freddy’s vocals still amaze. Yeah, it’s been overplayed for 50 years, but we did love it back in the day. The album is a fun 45 minute roller coaster. (4.56*s) Any way the wind blows…
A classic.
Outstanding. One of the greatest
Despite some other cantankerous reviewers, I actually liked I'm In Love w/ My Car. I mean its about a car -- its gotta be a little cheesy. Just imagine Spinal Tap playing the song and it works. Otherwise, for you young-in's out there, listen to this top to bottom no interruptions because it is like a night at the opera. The rock opera.
What a delightful fruity romp, 5* for the sheer insanity of lazing on a Sunday afternoon into i'm in love with my car. Also keeps the name of Beelzebub in the lexicon!
Funny, I know there are problems with this album. I. Don’t. Care. Sometimes an album has a greater meaning than the sum of its parts. For me, this album is one. People lambast the “Car Song.” I actually dig it. I find I love the whole thing. I’m ONE OF THOSE. Perish the thought, I know. I think that Queen is Killer, not just Freddie Mercury. 5 Boolean: YES BABY
5/5
10 - EXCELLENT
Freddie Mercury's voice and Brian May's lead are worth the price of admission on their own! The creative musicianship are a bonus.
masterpiece, top perfection e todas essas coisas
Love the sound and the energy. Of the new to me songs, enjoyed Seaside the most.
My first five star in a bit. This album is stellar. Epic is a used and abused term these days, but it fits Queen and this album in particular, both in concept and execution. So good, so very influential! '39 all by itself set the blue print for modern Indie folk and you can hear it stamped all over everything from 2010 to present (for better or worse). I also see big influences on bands like Fucking Champs and Ween. I mean, that list go run a long time.
This is the album that made me listen to music.
The name 'A Night At The Opera' is certainly fitting. It has all the drama and bombast of an opera, but reminds me the most of a variety show. There's something here for everyone, from prog rock epics, to more straightforward pop, to quirky music hall-inspired ditties. Standouts are the terrific opener 'Death on Two Legs', '39', 'You're My Best Friend', 'Prophet's Song' and the perhaps overplayed but not overrated 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' I genuinely enjoyed all of the songs, however. As someone who isn't a big listener of Queen, I wasn't expecting to give this a 5, but the strength of the album just about warrants it.
Yay!!! Thank you!!! Album generator you have saved me from despair! This is a 5. I love Queen. I have secretly loved this album even when I thought it was terribly uncool to do so. Now I know I will love this till the day I die. What a joy. Boolean: Yes, enough said
Forever a 5 - there’s nothing that can ever change my mind.
I had never listened to this album before, but obviously the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody was not mystery to me, it was interesting to hear it in its original context
genuinely delicious album
i love queen
How am I meant to rate the album that is home to Bohemian Rhapsody, this feels like a trap. The thing is, Bohemian Rhapsody, Love of My Life, and You’re My Best Friend are just SO good and I feel like I gotta reward that even if the rest of the album was much of a muchness. I think this is a begrudging 5.
Very fun crazy emotional roller coaster
I've never been a Queen 'fan', but I can't think of anything I've heard by them that I didn't like. Even the corporate commerciality blueprint that is "We Will Rock You" has something about it. But I've never listened to a full Queen album before today. Yeah it's true! But this is their absolute best. Quintessentially British. Pop, metal, music hall, seaside postcard rock. And Bohemian Rhapsody is just a rite pf passage for anyone who grew up in the 70s. (And 80s. And 90s).
Fantastic!
Exactly the kind of fancy boy dramatic rock music I live for
Yeah BR is a fantastic song but this entire album is great. Like really great. You're My Best Friend, '39, Seaside Rendezvous, and Good Company are incredibly fun to listen to. Even the songs I don't care for are fun and unique. I give this a solid 4.5/5, only reason it's less than a 5 is because I won't be returning to this as an album as much as I do on a per-song basis.
Rahhhh I love this album so much, I obviously knew it already queen is one of my favourite bands and I own this album as a CD :)
Perfection!
An absolutely perfect album to explore in full. What a great complete work of art. Bohemian Rhapsody might be my favorite song ever. It's so good.
Even without Bohemian Rhapsody, this is just one of the best rock albums. Every song is a masterpiece. Including the slightly silly ones (give us a kiss)
Rock on, Garth! 5 "the easiest 5" stars I've given. And I am NOT a Queen fan.
One of the best sounding albums of all times with one of the best songs ever composed by a music group ("I'm in love with my car"). The definitive album everyone should listen to at least once in their lifetime.
Très bon album
1st song, Death On Two Legs, this guitar FUCKS. this chorus, just the "death on two legs," fucks. 2, and then into this song, this album is brilliant 3 making sure I'm In Love With My Car is on the Truck playlist 5 very folk, it sounds like something specific but i can't put finger on it 7 this album has a lot of personality (thats a weird way to say it) is it ragtime? is this ragtime? i LOVE Seaside Rendezvous
Favourite: ‘39, sooo close to 5 stars
This is my second Queen listen of the list, and it's also probably their best-known album. I mean, it has "Bohemian Rhapsody" on it. However, it's not just that song; it's actually a very sonically varied album that tries a lot of different things and manages to land most of them. It takes hard rock, opera, folk, and blues and manages to blend them all into an iconic piece of 1970s AOR. Lyrics vary in quality, with "I'm In Love With My Car" being a low point and "Death on Two Legs" being a high point. The album has strong hooks backed up with great musicianship, making it a classic. It rightfully deserves its place as Queen's breakthrough album.
I thought Bohemian Rhapsody would be the oddest thing on here, but this is odd all the way through. Loved it!
their best album i’ve heard so far, you’re my best friend is my favourite queen song
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the greatest tracks ever made
Wonderful album. How could an album that gave us Bohemian Rhapsody be anything but fantastic?
Oh this was excellent. I loved Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.
Pompous, pretentious, bombastic, perfection. This is one of those albums that I've loved since I was a kid and it's just never been terrible. The band just interweaves genre and style on all its songs, as though their first few records were just prelude and practice for this moment. To be fair, it was a pivotal moment, and the penultimate song and single launched them to superstardom. But the whole album just feels like an absolute announcement of royalty in a way only Freddie could give.
Queen had been hinting at the direction they would eventually take with A Night at the Opera for their last three LPs, but this was when they truly went full-tilt into being the grandiose, quasi-symphonic rock quartet we now think of them as. "Death on Two Legs" wastes no time in pulling out all of the band's stops; it's immediately apparent just why this was the most expensive album ever made at the time. don't be fooled by the numbers, though; just bask in the glory of their compositions. even the simpler ones, like "You're My Best Friend" or "'39", are full of so many exquisite details: the choirs (both of voices and of Brian May's guitars), the unpredictable metric structures, the occasional hints of orchestral instruments. I even like Queen's diversions into the dancehall stuff that I usually hate whenever it comes up on a British rock record! but, of course, there's no topping the borderline-progressive showmanship of songs like the epic 8-minute "Prophet's Song" or, obviously, "Bohemian Rhapsody", a song I will never tire of no matter how much it gets played on the radio. light 9/10.
Perfect stunning flawless a delight
Fantastiskt album! Bohemian Rhapsody, You're my best friend och Love of my life. Behöver man ens säga mer?
The first four songs are a breeze and a masterpiece in production and fluidity.
An amazing experience and such a banger
A wildly inventive night of vaudeville, opera, and American song created by a British rock band. Breaks all expectations and achieves something coherent and sublime.
Absolute masterpiece For the full experience, this should immediately be followed by a day at the races, just to bask in the glory
Espectacular.
FINALLY I GOT QUEEN!
It is a masterpiece and no wonder many consider it their best (I'm still a proponent of the more progy Queen II). I don't think there is much to say about the songwriting and performances here that hasn't been said a billion times. This is an incredible album by a band at the height of their power. 5/5
This is simply a great album! Maybe a couple of duds to keep it from 5 stars. Wish as usual I could do half stars, but in this case I'll round up.
So when this album came up at the beginning, I was convinced it was going to be a 5. It has so many strong points that it was hard to imagine otherwise. * Bohemian Rhapsody * Death on Two Legs * Love of My Life * The Prophet’s Song But even I’m in Love with My Car has its own charm. This album is legendary, innovative, surprising, beautiful, and funny. Still, there have already been albums on this list that I think are better. 9/10
SI SI Y SI TODO LO QUE ESTÁ BIEN, AGUANTE QUEEN
Absolute Cinema
me encanta!!
al di là dell'ovvio, ossia che io adoro i Queen e per me tutta la loro discografia è un capolavoro, questo album è uno dei miei preferiti. contiene '39, Love of my life e Bohemian Rhapsody. anche solo per Bohemian Rhapsody si meriterebbe cinque stelle.
The album went from downright Fantasia to deep thoughts and feelings like butter, it all felt so right and in tune with freddy
Classic with some of the most legendary songs ever. Super divers.
This is definitely a grower of an album. At first I wasn't sure, but I've listened again and yeah it's awesome. Production is so good, composition is packed with so many elements. Musically there is so much texture - light and dark are both on display here. Sure there's a bit of whimsy (mostly from the songs by the other 3 members other than Mercury ) but I think it is a well created and well-balanced album.
Was hyped as I saw this coming up because I listened to this a lot when I was a kid. And YES, it lived up to the hype all these years later. It's crazy and over the top, and that is its strength. Great guitar work, sweet vocal harmonies and top tier songwriting with lots of unexpected turns. Every song presents new flavours but it all adds up to a real treat that just makes me feel good. Also, that vocal middle part in Prophet's Song? Just wow. Near perfect 4,5/5
For one of the most iconic bands of all time, it’s no question that this album is what launched them into the stratosphere.
5 stars for Bohemian rhapsody alone. What a fun album, especially with the ragtime melodies
Death on Two Legs - 10/10. One HELL of a diss track. Insane keyboards and guitar. Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon - 8/10. Cute and fun little ditty. I'm in Love with My Car - 9/10. Weird lyrics, but insane musicianship. You're My Best Friend - 10/10. Stripped down to the absolute basics. One of the greats. Dr. Brian May kills it on the guitar. '39 - 10/10. Incredible guitar, and lyrics that touch the soul *and* the mind, describing the effects of time dilation. An underrated great. Sweet Lady - 8/10. Lyrics are OK, guitar is insane. Still an outstanding diss track. Seaside Rendezvous - 8/10. Very good, fun, and cute. The Prophet's Song - 10/10. Rich arrangement, excellent and understated guitar, great harmonies, awesome production and mixing, almost a fugue in the middle portion purely done with overdubs of Freddie. Intricate and experimental in the best way. This may be one of the top 25 rock songs of the 1970s, and it's not even the best track on this album. Love of My Life - 10/10. Perfect in its simplicity. Brings me to tears. You forget until you listen to this song just how great a piano player Freddie Mercury was. Good Company - 8/10. Even the throwaway tracks on this album are high quality. Feels like if Queen wrote a Tin Pan Alley tune. Bohemian Rhapsody - 11/10. Insane open harmonies, ethereal opening, awesome piano, operatic lyrics. Every member of the band gets a chance to shine. Dr. May's guitar solos are crazy. This one definitely goes to 11. God Save the Queen - 9/10. A very different take on this traditional song, but very Queen, and excellent. Overall Rating - 4.63/5 (9.25/10). This one album runs through so many different styles. Every member of the band gets to shine, and the whole album is an all-time great.
Awesome!
Bangers after bangers.
If this ain’t getting 5* what is
Incredible, unfortunately I wasn’t paying attention to song titles so no favs this time
Hard not to give this album 5 stars just for Bohemian Rhapsody.
Yeah this shit is gas.
yessyesyesyes
I don't believe in the monarchy, but I might have to make an exception
Perfection for what they were going for

Ohh hell yeah!! Been waiting for this one. Death on two legs is a gorgeous opener. Everything that makes Queen the band they are is showcased in just the opening track of this album. Lazing on a Sunday afternoon continues with the immaculate vibes, even though it’s just a quick interlude. While so incredibly unserious, I’m in love with my car is just so musically wonderful that I can’t help but love it. You’re my best friend continues with the cohesive, but distinct feel of all the tracks on this album. ‘39 is just fun and sweet all the way through. Those harmonies are also incredible. Sweet lady had that punchy guitar which made everything come together and Springtime rendezvous captured the vibes it was going for so so well. What is there to say about The Prophet Song. There’s so many great little musical moments in it while being pretty much the band throwing sounds into a tape and somehow formatting it all in a thing that worked. Love of my life: obviously a gorgeous classic that works so well. It’s a departure, but again, it’s so beautiful and still fits in. Good company tries something different, but is still quintessentially Queen. What hasn’t been said about Bohemian Rhapsody. It is probably one of the best songs ever written, and the praise it receives is for good reason. Everyone knows the words to it whether they want to or not. I’ve witnessed it be played live twice (having seen Panic! At the Disco twice after they added the cover to the setlist), and while I’ll never be able to see Queen play it, the connection in the crowd as everyone sings along is something incredible. There’s a reason bands like Green Day play it before their shows to get the crowd singing along (which I’ve gotten to be a part of as well). With an instrumental cover of God Save the Queen to end it off, I have to unsurprisingly give this album the 5 ⭐️ it deserves. Obviously. 98/1089
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about music theory. I never hear Queen music (except for Bohemian Rhapsody because, duh) so DOTL is an unexpected opening and definitely gave me a vision of how versatile Queen is. You're My Best Friend is one of the jolliest love song and also have that "feel good" vibe to it that you can share to the homies. '39 is where i have to think "just how good are these guys?" and especially Freddie with his ability to sound good at any genre. THE PROPHET'S SONG GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END. I was shaking at the last 3 minutes of the song because of how crazy it is. Love Of My Life feels like a song you would hear in the wedding of 2 main characters of a fairytale or a happy ending to 2 broken souls that happened to find each other. To me all the songs are good, Freddie Mercury really deserved to be called one of, if not the best singer to ever existed. Roger Taylor, Brian May, John Deacon are all geniuses and it's a miracle that all 4 of them met and formed Queen. Listening to this album 50 years ago must have felt like witnessing a world wonder. Top 3: The Prophet's Song, Love Of My Life, Bohemian Rhapsody. Once again, this is my personal opinion and i know nothing about advanced music terms.
A true classic, a joy to my ears.
mamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Seaside Rendez-vous seems to be a low in an otherwise glorious album, but that's admittedly because I'm not sensitive to that polka-dotty kind of music. The Prophet's Song's choir segment was also not quite my thing, but I do appreciate the voice work that went into it, and the ending segment more than makes up for it. No comments needed for the rest of the album, Queen's fame is still as deserved as ever.
GOAT Everyone hypes up Bohemian but tbh my personal favorite is Prophet's Song bc I am addicted to that sort of edge
Strong contender for my favorite album of all time. I think it's underrated, somehow? Every song is so different and yet every one is perfect. On side 1, I have heard no other song quite like '39 in my life. But then on side 2, The prophet's song and the ramp up to Bohemian Rhapsody, fucking chills every time. Beyond incredible.
Just all around great music
Every other Rock Band when they heard this album for the first time... "Ahhh shit- welp, that's it...hanging it up, we're done. They did it, they made the peak of the genre, i will never be able to do it better, period...this is pointless, we're done."
Excelente álbum de Queen, nunca me voy a cansar de escuchar "Love of my life" y "Bohemian rhapsody"

This is the perfect álbum to understand & introduce the Classic Music if you never have been heard.
Soooooo, while this album may not contain many of Queen’s biggest hits, it does contain a couple, to include in my mind, their biggest. I know, it’s a personal, subjective thing, but the most important element of all is, the album in its’ entirety just works, and for me, it is their best album.
listened before, a childhood classic
Have alwyas loved Queen. Many songs I have never noticed before on this album. BRIAN MAY has an amazing singing voice.
What can you say about an album that features the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody". From the opening track "Death on Two Legs", through the whimsical "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon", love songs "You're My Best Friend" and "Love of My Life", to the closing "God Save the Queen", this album is pure Queen. I've always thought that "The Prophet's Song" was underrated.
PEAK
I like a lot did not know it
Brilliant.
Nice start
Queen is my favorite band! This is not their best album but it's Queen and it's revolutionary and I can't give it anything less than a 5.
Oh It's an amazing album
Finally my first Queen album of this challenge! (I assume there’ll be more). A fantastic album to be given – Queen doing what they do best; mixing heavy, catchy, theatrics, emotion, all in one. Not enough can be said about this iconic pairing of 4 top class musicians. Opening with the heavy thump of Death On Two Legs, with some great guitar work from Brian May, followed by the wildly unique Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon which only Freddie Mercury could pull off, let’s be honest. The songwriting is just so good here, every song feels different from the last but quintessentially Queen. It feels they can simply do whatever the hell they want and it works. The vocal layering and harmonies are majestic – particularly that mid section of The Prophet’s Song – my god. Absolute peak. Arguably my favourite track is Love of my Life – I firmly believe this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And yes we have Bohemian Rhapsody. Some would say it’s maybe overplayed/overheard, however it really is an outstanding song and fully deserves its recognition. 5/5. Can’t wait for my next Queen
This is easily a 5. A great band making great music. One of the best songs ever, Bohemian Rhapsody is on this so again, 5.
Ça part fort, un gros 8/10 facilement
the people hating on “I’m In Love With My Car” don’t get it or understand it as the absolute classic it is. anyways “The Prophet’s Song” is sososo gorgeous and should be more known
Undoubtedly iconic and the peak of pomp rock. I have grown tired of Bohemian Rhapsody but its power hits you afresh when you listen to the full album. I prefer the grittier rock of Sheer Heart Attack but it’s undeniable.
amazing
my favorite Queen album. this just gave me an excuse to listen to it again. it's still so special to me. A Night At The Opera is the perfect mix of extravagant operatic melodies, sweet friendship and romance (including Roger's strange relationship with his car), beautiful stories, Freddie Mercury's iconic vocals, Brian May's singing guitar, Roger Taylor's sharp drumming, John Deacon's underrated baselines, and back and forth between more serious tones to plain old fun. like going from the lonely, longing folksy '39 to the cheesiness of Sweet Lady. or the goofy summer romp of Seaside Rendezvous, followed by the vast, religious tale of The Prophet's Song. pretty much sums up Queen! and of course, how could we ever forget Bohemian Rhapsody!! every song on The Opera slowly leads up to the big grand finale, down to the last crash of cymbals. finally, ending on God Save The Queen. not only a little play on words, it also always reminded me of the addition of "Your Majesty" on the Beatles' Abbey Road, a short farewell after what was thought to be The End of the album. with both cases involving a Queen of some sort. that's the Queetles for you favorite track(s): I'm In Love With My Car, yes it's a guilty pleasure, but Roger's best song imo. '39, i love when Brian sings lead. The Prophet's Song has some of the greatest harmonies of Queen. and Bohemian Rhapsody will always be one of my favorite songs of all time. i love this album <3333 :')
One of my favorite albums of all time. Queen at its most extravagant. Favorite song: "The Prophet's Song"
Classic of all time queen album. Excellent vocal performances coupled with amazing instruments Freddy mercury knew what he was doing
Note : 5 À réécouter : Oui
I’ve never listened to this whole album; I really only knew “You’re My Best Friend” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” But this was great! I didn’t even mind “I’m In Love With My Car,” which seems to offend many in the comments. 9/10 Outstanding
An absolute classic. The guitar is so unique as are the vocal melodies. It's hard not to like Queen.
What can I say I’m a sucker for Queen! This has to be one of the best classic rock albums of all time. Every track on this album is fire and this is an album that I will definitely be listening to again in the future! So iconic.
The best Queen album.
Amazing album! I loved listening to this one. Freddie Mercury's vocals, Brian May's guitar, Roger Taylor's drumming, and John Deacon's bass all shine through on this album. My favorite song has to be either Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon or The Prophet's song, Bohemian Raphsody remains a classic, of course. It's hard to pick a least favorite, but the God Save the Queen outro seemed a bit unnecessary and I feel the album ending on Bohemian Raphsody would have been better. I also didn't enjoy Death on Two Legs quite as much as the rest of the album, not to say it's a bad song.
not just the songs but the variety was crazy
I'm In Love With My Car - тупо одна из самых романтичных и страстных песен о любви. You're My Best Friend - первый хит автора самых добрых песен группы басиста Джона Дикона, который позже раскроется как чуть ли не главный хитмейкер коллектива со своими Another One Bites The Dust и I Want To Break Free. В детстве, со своим школьным уровнем английского, я думал что речь в ней о мореплавателях, открывших новую землю, вернувшихся домой, но не нашедших своих родных - из-за фраз типа ship sailed out, milky seas, letters in the sand. Love of My Life - тупо одна из самых красивых песен о любви.
In love with my car
a classic and a must listen housing 2 of the greatest songs ever written
Another great piece of music by a unique and innovative band. Always a pleasure to listen to.
A masterpiece.
This album is an incredible experience!
Simply spectacular! The eccentricity and fun, the turmoil and sadness, the guitar and THE voice! It was just wonderful! I even found the unusual love letter to a car weirdly worked alongside all these other incredible songs! Loved it all
They're a killer, Queen
9/10
Forgot how great a band Queen was. Hard to believe it, but I grew tired of hearing the same songs every day on classic rock radio. It really is even more infuriating when you listen to this album and hear what they DON’T play. Seriously this is a legendary record. A must listen for anyone who appreciates music in all its numerous genres. Probably a top 100 album. 5 stars (any less would be a crime against rock music)
only ever heard Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend in the past Death on Two Legs - 5/5 Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon - no rating I'm in Love With My Car - 4/5 You're My Best Friend - 5/5 '39 - 4/5 Sweet Lady - 4/5 Seaside Rendezvous - 3/5 The Prophet's Song - 5/5 Love of My Life - 5/5 Good Company - 4/5 Bohemian Rhapsody - 5/5 God Save the Queen - no rating Average score: 4.4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
9 / 10 - enorme Produktion und extrem abwechslungsreich - einige sehr (vielleicht etwas zu sehr?) verrückte Momente, alles sehr verspielt und nicht zu ernst - Vielleicht Hot Take: "I'm in love with my car" ist ein kein schlechter Song und es war die richtige Entscheidung, dass Roger Taylor ihn singt ... ? Favs: - Bohemian Rhapsody - The Prophet's Song - Death On Two Legs
I knew a lot of the songs on this album, but I had never listened to it in order, and WOW! The way that the songs all flow together is beautiful. I love when an album is designed with this much love and attention to detail.
Wow, what a bizarre album. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. The Prophet Song is so over the top it's sublime. This entire album is like Queen heard Roxy Music and the New York Dolls and said, "hold my beer" or really "hold our cocktails" and went for it. I love it.
8/10

You make the music go back you hear Satan speaking! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmqNFETlKK8
If I were to compare bands to baseball players, Queen would be the musical Jim Thome - a swing-and-miss power hitter who swung big at every opportunity. And, when all was said and done, an undisputed hall of famer. Queen could never be accused of going halfway on anything, and this record saw them at what was probably the peak of their extravagance, encapsulating all the drama of the album’s namesake. And while not everything here comes off perfectly, I can’t imagine another band attempting what Queen did and achieving this kind of success. As with most things Queen did, Freddy Mercury's vocals are at the center of what makes this work stand out. He had a knack for emphasizing certain notes or words in a way that just brought a smile to my face. In the songs where he wasn't the lead vocalist, there was a notable dropoff, though I can't bring myself to hate I'm In Love With My Car the way others seem to. Brian May's guitar work is also excellent throughout the album, and I love the playing with different tones. That playfulness is taken to an extreme at some points, like Seaside Rendezvous, in a way that is a lot of fun. Where the double album is known as a chance for an artist to include some of their more zany experiments (e.g. the White Album or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road), Queen manages to pack it all into two sides. We have hard rockers (Death On Two Legs, Sweet Lady), vaudeville (Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon), shanty ('39), piano ballad (Love Of My Life), and whatever you'd classify Bohemian Rhapsody as. Even if some of the attempts could be improved in my estimation, like the cool a capella section in The Prophet's Song that goes on a bit long for me, the album ultimately comes together into a wonderfully eclectic picture of what makes Queen great. And of course, Bohemian Rhapsody is like a 6-minute distillation of all the craziness we get throughout the whole album. If Good Vibrations was Brian Wilson's attempt at a "pocket symphony", then Bohemian Rhapsody is a veritable pocket opera. It's over the top in all the best ways and is still underappreciated, perhaps simply because we have been able to get familiar with it over the past 50 years. As for the album as a whole, it won't be to everyone's taste. But, undoubtedly, everyone should hear it at least once.
clásico de clásicos
I don't know that I've ever sat and listened to this album in its entirety before, but it has so many good songs on it that I absolutely love. I've seen the Adam Lambert version of Queen a couple of times, and Queen is one of those bands that I regret that I never saw live with Freddie. It's always interesting to read about the albums too, and it's amazing to me that despite their commercial success at that point in their career, the band was pretty much broke at the time they made this album due to a bad contract they had signed. The band was only making about 60 pounds a week from Trident Studios. Everything else was going to the label and their management. This was also the most expensive album ever recorded at the time of its release. Total classic that shows off the talent of everyone in the band and the diversity in their music!
I love this album !!!!!! One of my favorites
Probably the greatest album on here I’ve listened too I genuinely enjoyed this but I did know what I was getting into bc of queen obviously
Fantastic fun my one of the best rock groups of all time.
It has Bohemian Rhapsody
Best of the best.
Massive fan of Queen, they're a magical blend of influences and talent and ambition and creativity and musical styles with iconic players on every instrument. I still might list Jazz as my favorite album of theirs, I think it highlights every aspect of the band to perfection — including their sense of humor — but what else to say beyond this record is a true work of fearless genius. "Death on Two Legs" may feature Freddie Mercury's most vitriolic, edgy vocal on record; the vocal harmonies on "I'm In Love With My Car" probably get overlooked due to the absurdity of the song; "You're My Best Friend" is a gem from bassist John Deacon (and sung beautifully by Freddie); Brian May's "39" sounds like an old standard (that's actually about folks flying around on spaceships); "Lazing" and "Seaside" speak to the band's humor while disguising brilliant compositions and performances and willingness to go wherever the muse leads. And do I even need to mention "Bohemian Rhapsody" other than to tip a cap to its over-the-top brilliance? This is a remarkable record, and is one of many in the band's catalog. Props to Brian May for always playing to make a song better rather than trying to make a statement. Love this record.
PERFECTION
Having been a fan of Queen’s first three records, hearing A Night At The Opera for the first time was a total sensory overload. They pushed their boundaries to craft a genuine masterpiece, and to this day, it remains one of my absolute favorites.
My older brother purchased this album when it was released and absolutely played it to death. These songs are imprinted on my soul. So camp, so varied, so courageous. An unquestionable 5 stars. Fave song - borap (of course).
Fantastic Album. Start to finish it's an all timer everyone of the world should get to listen to.
Again again
It might be a bit biased but I listened to this album countless times
Why is “Bohemian Rhapsody” actually the worst song on the album? I mean, maybe not the worst, but this album is so strong top to bottom, and there are so many amazing songs that it feels a little like a letdown to end with that. It could just be that it feels overplayed when compared to everything else here, so I’m just bored with it, but there are so many other great thematic, operatic songs. “Death On Two Legs,” “‘39,” “The Prophet’s Song,” and “Love Of My Life” were my favorites, but it’s a super strong album overall. I don’t listen to much Queen outside the singles, but after getting this and Queen II, I need to change that.
Masterpiece! Got bo rhapsody, love of my life and your my best friend on it. What more do you want from an album? It Shows the best of each member of the band.Queen at their peak really in terms of in the studio. Remember buying this and a day at the races together 21 years ago on CD and playing them for weeks. A night at the opera is always going to have a special place in my heart ❤️
One of my favourite albums.
There's some odd moments but taking the album title in mind and after a couple of listens it all seems to work. Queen are pretty damn good band. Freddie Mercury has a amazing set of pipes.
Some of the best Queen in here, even if there are also a couple of weak songs. 9/10
Great album
i love queen, and ALMOST all of these songs are so delightful, with the piano and the catchy tunes but there were some epic flops like the one I'm in love with my car which another reviewer has enlightened me to that it was sung by the drummer who locked himself in a cabinet unless he got his way :D i hated it, it was beyond a conventional kind of bad. anyway bohemian rhapsody is on this album
Listen, I am not done listening to this whole thing but I have to rate it, but I already know I'm gonna love everything on here. Some of the songs I'm already familiar with because come on, it's fucking Queen. But even the new ones I've heard? I love! Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon? SO GOOD and also literally me tomorrow (kinda). I love Queen and I love this album, always a great artist to throw on!!!!
If you hate this album, you hate fun. So many styles, all done well, incredible production. Probably my favorite of the project so far
Lord, this album is so opulently rich and fun! From the grandiose Seaside Rendezvous to having '39, I'm In Love With My Car, AND Bohemian Rhapsody, this damn album work so well. Then comes the 8 minute The Prophet's Song transitioning to Love of my Life it's a feeling.
5/5. Freddy's singing isn't for me, but it is hard to deny the amazing guitar and writing work on this album.
i'm not the biggest queen fan but i do find myself really enjoying their songs i haven't heard a million times. this album is chockablock with those. freddie has an incredible range and these songs are all quite unique and interesting. the only one that i found boring and unnecessary was the prophet's song in the middle, clocking in at over eight minutes and not earning that runtime at all. favorites: everything but sweet lady, the prophet's song, and good company
Even with seaside rendezvous and lazing on a Sunday afternoon it’s an easy 5
Unique band for the times. Even for now, although there are a couple bands that try to imitate. This album is a 5 for its stylistic originality. Just a super cool album.
Smashing
What a brilliant album. Not a single bad one in there.
Großartig! Zwischen Genialität und Größenwahn!
An absolute classic album. One of the best of all time. 39 has to be my fav off this one.
This was an easy 5. It's been probably a decade since I've listened to the album in its entirety but it's just as great as I remember.
A really remarkable album, it’s hard not to appreciate the impact
"Bohemian Rhapsody" is the greatest song in western popular music. Go watch the video of the entire crowd singing it (and doing all the harmonies) before a Green Day concert.
I've seem people choosing Love of My Life as a wedding song, which is insane. This one is sad as fuck. I love Queen but I cannot listen to Bohemian Rahpsody without thinking of that Glee scene HAHAHAH please don't kill me
Great! After more than 50 years, this still remains as one of the greatest albuns of all time. There's no much else to say. 5 stars
I do love queen.

It's Queen.
Two Legs, You're My Best Friend, ' 39, Love of My Life, allemaal knallers.
discazo, clasico. 10 de 10 alwaus
Amazing album … queen cannot fail
MAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA OOoOoooOoOoo
just so good
Ok so I listened to this one like two weeks ago and it is FANTASTIC it's at least a four. DEATH ON TWO LAAAAYGS! God damn like such a cool album. I can't believe I didn't hear any of these deeper cuts when I was really into Queen when I was like 6. Well, actually yes I can believe it. My mom really liked their greatest hits albums. But the OTHER stuff thats nOT on those albums blows me the fuck away! I love theatrical rock music. It is SO my style. This album lays the blueprint, if Bowie hadn't already, (and as a huge bowie fan, he kind of hadn't)!
Tea boots down queen
Loved it
Classic, love it, the guitar is amazing
You could hang this in the Louvre
I love this album so so much. Queen in general. But the production... All instrumental parts are so good, the vocal harmonies are beautiful, and every song is special in its own way. This album speaks to my soul and me. It shows why music is truly a form of art. Freddie Mercury's voice is out of this world, and Brian May's guitar parts are just surreal. Love of my life.
Fuck yeah. So unique, so awesome, so full of life. One of the best
10/10 it’s Queen!!!! I only really ever listened to the greatest hits double album so there were quite a few songs I hadn’t heard before!
10/10 MILQ
Una obra maestra sin duda. "You call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese" es una línea bastante incomprendida.
#240/1001. This is probably the first complete Queen album I listen to voluntarily. Not that I would hate them - I just haven't thought about any good reason why I should have. For sure I cannot but give 5 to an album which not only has Bohemian Rhapsody, but manages to put it on the record just as any one song or there - previously I thought it would stand out like a canary in a black metal concert, but no, here it makes sense. Which also reveals a great side of Queen: the songs which do not play on the radio. But after listening to this, even after givong 5 stars, I don't know any good reason to listen this or some other Queen album again willingly - except that I am sure more of them will appear to be reviewed. Until then, Bismillah.

Legendary album. Generational talents, bangers and influence. Aside from having all of Queen's hits on one album it's amazing. Some songs get a little frumpy, probably riding the Paul McCartney wave of boppy songs with Beatles/Wings. I think "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the greatest song of all time for what it's worth. Never seen Queen but played the hell out of them on Guitar Hero haha.
Epic. Absolutely immaculate.
Quite simply one of thr best albums committed to vinyl, absolutely all thriller, no filler!
Masterpiece!
Classic again DUH. More variety than I thought , with intrinstic lyrics and harmonies by all members
“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” I feel incredibly grateful to be given an excuse to revisit this album. I can’t think of a set of songs that take me back to my childhood so readily as these. Brian May’s playing here was a huge factor in compelling me to learn the guitar and I don’t have the superlatives for Freddie Mercury. Roger Taylor and John Deacon are both more than pulling their weight. They are wonderful at their instruments and offering strong vocal performances. They are also both flexing their songwriting muscles on “I’m In Love With My Car” and “You’re My Best Friend” respectively. The songs all flow beautifully into each other and given how familiar I am with the album I can feel each song before it has started. I have always loved the transition from “The Prophet’s Song” into “Love Of My Life” and it is a prime example of this. “A Night At The Opera” has its cheesier moments courtesy of “Seaside Rendezvous”, “Good Company”, and “Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon” but if you buy into the over the top campiness you find yourself tuning into the musicality that underpins them. “Bohemian Rhapsody” needs no introduction. I have never met anyone who doesn’t know the words. Its popularity almost serves to distract from how brilliant a song it is and how much it deserves its reputation. I am massively biased in favour of this album and I make no apologies for that. I grew up with these songs and they formed the basis for my love of music as an adult. That being said I truly believe that this record is essential listening for any music fan.
Love
A classic. The songs blend together so well, and there's so many more beautiful harmonies on there then just the known, Love of my life and Bohemian Rhapsody. Loved it!
Queen
My favourite song was I’m in love with my car. The transitions between songs were clean. Very good
Interesting album that’s just the right length. It’s my first time listening to several of the tracks and I thought most were good despite not being sure about the Rock Opera format.
Classic. Makes me think of my dad :,-)
yes.
Queen simply at its best.
woaaaaahhh
An smorgasbord of an album with a wide variety of different styles. I tend to like these sort of things assuming the quality's good, and for the most part, it is. "Death On Two Legs," is one of the most extreme "fuck you" tracks written outside of hip-hop and the most incendiary thing Queen ever performed (so incendiary, in fact, they had qualms about releasing and performing it). The anger and aggression are cathartic, the guitar shreds, it's great. There are the smattering of throwback style songs ("Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon," "Seaside Rendezvous," "Good Company") that work to varying degrees, two shmaltzy but heartfelt and well performed love letters ("You're My Best Friend," "Love Of My Life"), one hilarious Roger Taylor penned track that is entirely explained in the title ("I'm In Love With My Car"), an enjoyable folk-rock ode to space travel from Brian May ("39") and of course there's "Bohemian Rhapsody," still grandiose and epic and still worthy of it's ambition, fifty years on. Not everything works. "The Prophet's Song" (Queen's second-longest song that they would ever record) is very ambitious but falls flat. "Sweet Lady" is a rocker that is just too screechy for my tastes. But for the most part, the songs are very enjoyable and the contrast in styles makes for a varied and interesting listen. This just makes it to the five-star level for me based on two songs I really love, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Death On Two Legs" and enough quality down the rest of the lineup. I think the songs here are more enjoyable to listen to together than piecemeal. It's an album that's more than the sum of it's parts.
Brian May is the shit
love this album, grew up listening to queen :)
Truly the Queen—and the king—of camp rock. This album feels pretty essential. What a vibe. Bold, theatrical, over-the-top in the best way… honestly, one of a kind. Magnifico!
Great listen
Ya know what, I don't even mind the car song. It's silly but it has some sweet guitar work. Several all-timers on this and I've had a great time listening to the rest. Brian May's guitar sound is unique and he's a fantastic player. I'm not sure if I've heard his lead vocals before but his lead is pretty nice on '39. Obviously Freddie Mercury is Freddie Mercury. Deacon and Taylor hold it down nicely. Great album!
Taaaaaaaaaaaaaak ✨
10000/10, LOVE this album
this time around I didn’t do the usual frown after I pressed generate album. finally some fun. iconic album, love it from start-to-finish Prophet’s Song gets flack but brilliant demo of prog rock imo
Amazing album, surprised at how many different genres it includes.
