Reviews (page 3 of 14)
Ég er ekki að segja að öll lögin séu 5 stjörnu. En platan er með það mörg 5 stjörnu lög að ég get horft fram hjá slysunum frá Taylor og May.
What an amazing album with some of my most favourite songs. Queen never fail to amaze
Amazing Queen album!’n
1000/1000!!!!
Classic.
Maravilhoso!
The only time the English national anthem sounds good is when it's performed by Red Special.
The generator handing out this for Christmas Eve was certainly blessed
Iconique
This is making me want to get into more queen!!
10/10 love queen, love this album, especially the diversity of the songs.
Really enjoyed some of the ones I hadn't heard before - death on two legs!!! Some bangers on here too. Definitely relisten. 5/5
Love.
I am not a Queen fan and it's actually the first time I listen to this album, i must admit it's quite good.
This album is a beautiful evolution with the first pieces that really lack personality and the end of the album is really very creative, flamboyant with this mixture of rock, lyricism, opera and innovation that make the instruments participate in the melody. Who could have imagined a god save the queen so melodious while being so rock and modern. Don’t forget the epic tube “bohemian rhapsody” which is the master piece of creativity and melody. On any album, it gives a 5 star despite some really average tracks !
Eclectic, talented, a party.
already heard enough to know this is immediately 5 stars but ig i’ll listen!
One of the greatest albums of all time. You're welcome to disagree but if you, you're wrong.
Probably one of the greatest albums of all time. There is no question about it.
Don’t think I’ve ever listened to the full album but this would be unbelievable for one album with just the hits on it. Some great deeper cuts though - The Prophet’s Song especially is pretty bonkers but brill. Everyone is firing on all cylinders here.
(5) immaculate
My first vinyl and a classic album full of great songs. ‘39 and seaside rendezvous are my favourites! 5 stars for me!! A lot of good variety and a good flow between songs the whole time, ending really strong. Fav song: Bohemian Rhapsody but seaside rendezvous was a close second and a lot of solid other songs
An utterly mad album. Goes from sounding like metal to sounding country to sounding like the soundtrack to a musical. Plus random orchestration, plus deranged lyrics, plus bizarre production. You have to love it.
Classic! Very good.
9/10 It's not the most coherent album. So many musical plot twists the plot sometimes gets lost. However it keeps you interested from beginning to end. The highs are very high, while the lows are still pretty good. Weird, but decent and engaging. There's so much energy and creativity here. (Also I'm not a car enthusiast, but I still think I'm in a love with a car is a banger and surprisingly wholesome) Highlights: Bohemian Rhapsody Death on Two Legs The Prophet's Song I'm in Love with My Car '39 Good Company Seaside Rendezvous Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon
Magnificient!
Absolute masterpiece.
I never sat down and really listened to Queen, even though I love everything about them and heard all their hits.
It’s no question why this has stood the test of time.
The greatest album from one of the greatest bands of all time. Shocker, it's an end-to-end stunner. Not perfect, but damn near close.
This album is nostalgic to me as it was first introduced to me by a friend (who has since passed) about 25 years ago. I had heard a lot of these songs before and was amazed to find out that they all came from this album. The clincher though is The Prophet’s Song. That epic vocal breakdown chorus of Freddy’s is out of this world! What an incredibly heavy piece! This whole album is great from front to back. Unbelievable songs and arrangements, experimental recording and mixing and great performances captured on tape! It’s one of those albums you should listen to at least once a year, which I try to do!
An absolute classic. If I'm being extremely picky, I could maybe do without a couple of the more jazzy-throwback tracks ("Seaside Rendezvous", "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon"), but those aren't enough to distract from the brilliance throughout the album.
Epic!
Another album that I have known a very long time. Been a while but like meeting old friends everything after all this time is still just just right. It contains one of my favourite non hit Queen songs, a bloody folk rock song about time dilation of all things. Know every minute of the album well and love every minute, that hasn't diminished upon revisiting today 5 Star
Amazing
What can I say. It's A Night At The Opera. Faves: Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, '39, The Prophet's Song, Bohemian Rhapsody
Quintessential Rock. Super fun record. The Prophet's Song is an ethereal experience. Extremely cohesive. 5.1 outta 5
has to be a 5. I forget how eclectic it is, I love listening/ watching things where you can tell how much fun they were having making it. A classic
An easy one!
Goated album with the most goated song of all time. 5/5
An amazing spread of different styles. But who wants that? But Boh Rap is the best song ever, so a five it is!
Beautiful album!
Instant classic when it was released, and still is.
Great album, Queen pretty much can't miss. This album is also so much more than just the one with Bohemian Rhapsody! "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon" has such a fun piano intro and the classical influence throughout the song is iconic Queen. "I'm In Love With My Car" made me laugh out loud, especially thinking about many people I know in this city (no offense, but cars aren't all that great). It's also just so anthemic, I'm sure it would feel great to cruise along a highway and blast this song. There truly isn't a single song on this album that doesn't have it's own special reason for being top-tier. "'39" caught me by surprise with its folky, scrubby acoustic guitar and jug-band bass line — and I can't forget about the whimsically sad lyrics based in Brian May's understanding of the theory of general relativity. Song picks for this album are just all of them. Listen to all of them. Also crazy that, at least on YouTube Music, Bohemian Rhapsody currently has 2.7 Billion plays...
Happy “A Night At The Opera” Day for all those who celebrate. I’ve been a fan of Queen for many years and some number of years ago I decided to listen to their discography all the way through to discover what other music they had beyond the tried and true well known bangers. This album is high up there on that list and any list of any music for me to be honest (maybe the top). Bohemian Rhapsody is clearly iconic but I also like Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon and Seaside Rendezvous. The story behind the release of this album is great and I also love that their follow up album was called A Day At The Races.
Coming out of retirement for this one, Queen is my all-time favourite band! Every being on the planet is born with the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody already in their heads (biology is crazy) but this album has so much more to offer! Seaside Rendezvous and Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon are such under rated songs and 39' has a real interesting story to it if you like physics. However, as much as I do love The Prophet's Song, I never understood why Queen fans rave so strongly about this one. Overall, this is a masterpiece of an album. Freddie often steals the spotlight but Brian May's guitar playing on this album is incredible! His style, tone, and harmonies really boost Queen's orchestral sound. All of Queen's musicians do an amazing job complimenting each other and give the songs exactly what it needs. Idk what Roger Taylor is doing to that poor car though... 9.5/10
Kerri has been waiting for this day to come. Hopefully she doesn’t loose interest in this group afterwards. This album is in top 100 of listens before you die imo for a good reason. We own this record because Kerri hunted it down in marketplace. So I picked it up from some random dudes porch and left cash inside. I probably hear it weekly at home at least and I don’t think it will get old that way.
Such a banger album. There is so much more I could say about this album. But front to back this is simply fantastic
Wow, guess I've been sleeping on Queen for all these years, this album was pretty incredible from front to back, with a few luls, but the luls were still nothing to scoff at. Quite the vessel for Bohemian Rhapsody, which I dont even think was my favorite song on the album, but is undeniably one of the most classic songs in existence if you ask me.The prophet song filled the favorite spot for me, as well as Death on Two Legs. Loved the harmonies and melodies on those two. Just a really creative, outgoing, fun album, a handcrafted work of art if you will. A collection of songs definitely worth listening to before you die. 9/10
Such an amazing work of art, bringing the drama of the opera to a rock concept album.
fuck yeah
A LITTLE BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, GENTLEMEN???
10/10 album a true classic. One of my favorites of all time
Still a fan. "Bohemian Rhapsody" alone would make it a five stars album for me. But beyond that it is a very diversified album and every time a fun listen - especially on headphones.
Obviously some of the biggest and best songs ever on here. It's undeniably a classic, to think this is an actual album is beyond impressive. Quirky and fun, inspiring and incredible musicianship. Has to be a 5 star really doesn't it?
This is a really good album,
Was one of my favourite albums and remains there after listening again. Every song is a banger (except maybe god save the queen/good company)
Brilliant album when it came out. A few tracks not stood test of time for me. So I wobbled between four and five stars…but nostalgia won!
Amazing album (may be bias due to being a huge Queen fan). I wouldn't listen to 'I'm in love with my car' but 'Love of my life', 'The Prophet's Song' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' are three of my favourite Queen songs. Such a range of genres just in this album itself, shows their talent as musicians.
Already listened to it in the past, very good album, a couple of absolute bangers, but the rest is also amazing and I enjoy the whole lot
A personal favorite
I freaking love this weird album. It goes all out. It's a brilliant record. There are so many different sounds and things going on in this one that you can't get bored.
It’s a 5/5, it has filler, some songs that are actually ‘not good’, but it’s also much more than bohemian rhapsody… Death on two legs is one of the most cutting ‘Diss tracks’ of all time. Freddie screams ‘feel good are you satisfied do you feel like suicide?’ To come back with the cruel… ‘I think you should’. The song is absolutely insane. You’re my best friend is a great single, not a top track but serves its purpose perfectly! 39- Brian May’s weird sci fi skiffle is a grower but one that hits incredibly hard once you know, I love the instrumental especially. Seaside rendezvous- is the best of the 2 ‘vintage’ songs of side 1 it’s just so fun. The prophets song- actually rivals boh rhap. Great heavy long rocker the acapella section is strange but so grate Love of my life is a brilliant tragic ballad , ‘bring it back’ certainly the album’s tearjerker. Good company doesn’t get the discussion it deserves- side 2 of this album is really perfect, ‘all my friends through the years by and by disappear’ tragic but great Then Bohemian rhapsody… come on its so good!!! The ones I haven’t mentioned are filler but it still deserves a 5
Excellent, no notes!
A classic and a lot of fun
Amazing, obviously... Bohemian Rhapsody, I'm in Love with my Car - Which people don't seem to love?-, '39 and the music hall: Seaside Rendezvous and Lazying on a Sunday Afternoon. All amazing tracks
One of my first encounters with Queen was, of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody". From a very young age, I took so much pleasure in listening -and with my first tape deck recorder in hand, ready to roll- to the Top 100 Greatest Songs of All Times, that was broadcast on the radio at the end of the year. This list was always dominated by the top three "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Child in Time" by Deep purple and of course "Bohemian Rhapsody". They would swap the top spot every now and then, but these songs are engraved in my memory as the sweetest childhood memories of discovering new music. A few years later, I saw Queen, and in particular Freddie Mercury, broadcasted live on "Live Aid". I was an immediate fan, what a performance, the drilling and playing of this gigantic stadium, Freddie commanding Wembley Stadium like it was his living room, it was immaculate! Subsequently there came their hits and from "A Kind of A magic" to "Innuendo", I bought or copied all of their records. But back to "A Night at the Opera". Although I have listened to this album before, this thorough relisten made it such a great experience. I love it, its eclecticism, campy British vaudeville ("Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon", "Seaside Rendezvous"), but also the sheer hardrock ("Death on Two Legs", "Sweet Lady") and of course the beautifully crafted (pop) songs like "Love of my Life" and "You're My Best Friend" and "39" to the great progrock song "The Prophet's song" culminating in of course "Bohemian Rhapsody". Man, this is an eargasm! 5/5
Always excellent
0 réflexion 10/10 merci freddie je t'aime
Setting aside I love my car, this is a fantastic album that I bought on vinyl upon release when i was ten, cassette at 16 and later on cd. Still happily have the vinyl and cd. 5 out of 5 stars
All my homies hate Norman Sheffield.
Harmonies, Whimsy, Rock...this album has everything! I love imagining my mom in the room as "Bohemian Rhapsody" is plaid live in the US for the first time. what an incredible experience...
Queen - what else to say...
Who wouldn't like this?
Queen at their best….you have to live in their world to get into it.
So good
Predictably adore it
Stupendous. Of course I already know and love many songs on this album, and it's really a treat to hear them in the original context of the album. Listening to the Deluxe version includes some great live performances at the end, and truly warmed my heart. This little story from the Wikipedia page put it over the top for me: "The album title was inspired by the Marx Brothers film of the same name, which the band had watched during recording sessions. Subsequently, they became good friends with the film's star Groucho Marx, to the point where Marx sent the band a letter praising their 1976 album A Day at the Races. Marx also invited Queen to visit him at his Los Angeles home in March 1977 (five months before he died). The band thanked him, and performed [the song] '39 a cappella."
So many great tunes!!!
Never trust anyone who doesn't like Bohemian Rhapsody
Awesome
Queen brought the weird to the party and it was perfect every time. The compositions never failed to be interesting and complex. Freddie was a true showman. A Night at the Opera isn’t hit after hit, but it’s excellent start to finish.
First time hearing this album in its whole. A good few of the songs exist in popular culture (and Bohemian Rhapsody probably elevates above this) but hearing the variety of this album really brings everything together. Freddie's voice shines. Fantastic.
Peak Queen
Haven't listened through the whole album before, it was simply great. A range of genres and not really any filler. Outside of Bohemian Rhapsody, The Prophet Song and Love of My Life as favourites from the album.
Obvi fire it’s queen I didn’t know the best friend song was queen I feel like queen was the charli xcx of their time
Always loved Freddy Mercury, huge respect goes to Queen as well.
Um dos melhores alguns já feito. Amo queen, amo as músicas e amo a composição do album
It feels like the whole album is a build up to Bohemian Rhapsody. 5 stars or A.
Bohemian Rhapsody is on this album. I have no choice but to give this a 5 star rating.
It’s got to be 5
Easy 5
obv
I absolutely love Queen, so this was an easy 5 for me. Very fun, very lively, just in a league of their own.
This isn't Queen's most consistent record but it definitely has some of their greatest ever songs.
One of the greatest albums of all time. Banger after banger. Classic rock with the classic Queen twist and orchestra. Freddie mercury is amazing.
Stellar. I always thought bohemian rhapsody was the crown gem of this album but there’s sooo many other good songs here.
everything about queen rocks honestly, so i struggle to give this any less than a stellar review. The brit pop of lazing on a sunday afternoon is so funny, and of course who can forget "you're my best friend" or "bohemian rhapsody," which is so prevalent everywhere that it's circled into camp just to love it. but most of what makes queen so interesting to me is how a rock band that's this technically joyful and experimental had the whole world in a chokehold, but perhaps i should appreciate the fact that this even happened.
I knew the hits but had never heard the full album.
Pretty much all over the place production-wise. But great!
I prefer other Queen's albums ('A Day at the races' for example) but this still is a masterful classic.
prophets song > bohemian rhapsody no competition
Favorite album by one of my favorite bands. Top 3 album of all time, in my opinion. No more words needed. 5/5
Honestly maybe the best album of all time. Said without an ounce of hyperbole. Not sure if I'll find a better one than this on this list.
a Classic, Top100
Opera is a great way to describe this album. It’s no surprise that three of the tracks became mega hits. But there are also tracks like the prophet song that are just as avant-garde and brilliant as bohemian rhapsody. All and all a fun listen. And Freddie is spectacular as ever.
The breadth of sound here is always surprising. The run between 'I'm In Love With My Car' and 'Seaside Rendezvous" is all over the place yet somehow are fully formed and Queen is able to deliver each song. Bohemian Rhapsody is the perfect button for this album conceptually on top of the pure supremacy of the song as a standalone item. Hard to capture how obviously great the album is in totality. I lack of musical language to express why.
This album transports me to middle school when I was listening to it on repeat. I always loved the disclaimer printed on a sticker adhered to the cover of the album that informed listeners that NO synthesizers were used in the album’s production—just a whole bunch of vocal parts smushed into the limited number of tracks they had on the tape. Incredible. We also had a Queen documentary (on VHS) I watched a million times in this same period so fuzzy imagines from the performances stream in my consciousness while listening. I remember my first listen of “Death on Two Legs” and thinking it was completely badass. It might be sacrilege, but I always thought Roger Taylor’s song about his Car was very goofy. I felt like it was meant to be taken seriously, but I could never really get there. Sorry, Rog. Besides the obvious hits on this album, “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon,” is forever one of my favorite Queen songs. Admittedly, I forgot how nearly (again, sorry, Rog) flawless this album is.
One of the best albums
Volume 1 was enough to convince me.
one of my favourite albums of all time. really weirdly, i literally listened to it in full the day before the generator gave me it AND it gave me it on freddie's birthday. every track is so exciting and creative and i think it sums queen up so well. it's, in my opinion, their greatest album in terms of consistency. there's so much depth and so much going on in every track that makes it such a captivating listen.
masterpiece. 1000/5
If this album were just Bohemian Rhapsody - it would still be 5/5 - but fortunately it's hit after hit front to back, absolute perfection
A glorious album.
Absolute masterpiece of an album. There's only a few fleeting moments in a song here or there I don't like, and it's so minute it takes nothing away from the album's excellence. "I'm In Love With My Car" is kinda dorky in terms of subject matter, but who cares the music is still pretty dope. Timeless classic of an album.
Pues un discazo.
A most excellent album. Not everything was to my liking, but I listened to the whole thing
Amazing album, and one that I've already loved before my listen here. Great songwriting, crazy good vocal harmonies, and you can just tell the band had a whole deal of fun with the album.
Queen's songwriting combined contemporary progressive rock and heavy metal, which led to a "Led Zeppelin meets Yes" description of the band. <-- This would explain my 5* rating 😁 I believe Queen to be the most innovative, and talented band ever. Even songs I don't care to listen to outside this review I appreciate for its amazing production and uniqueness. I am really hoping to review another queen album and I am pretty certain I will because they are that awesome!! 100% enjoyed!!
“Bohemian Rhapsody”. Might be a cop out, but that instantly makes this a 5. Such a recognizable song. Queen had a legacy that transcends the passing of Freddie Merc. Overall, I like the flow of the album. His raspy vocals when getting into the verses was a great contrast with his melodic vocals on the chorus. When the whole band can sing, that’s also a plus. Kudos to them on the backing vocals!
This album is an experience! Already a fan of Queen and familiar with their hits, this was a fun listen for me - especially after watching the Bohemian Rhapsody movie just a few months ago which touched on the making of this iconic album. I love how each band member contributed to the writing, and how they all pushed their comfort zone. It paid off!
WSPANIAŁY ALBUM i am SO in love with my car bohemian rhapsody aaaa
Queen is everything correct about Rock and Roll.
this album is so good it enough has a couple of bad tracks and still gets a 5
Not overrated at all. Wonderful album and only a single weak track. Pretty impressive if anything
Bohemian Rhapsody.
I can feel like this album will be a classic in my library
it’s queen. it’s a night at the opera. it’s a 5!
Classic
A big listen. Needs full attention because it's all so beautiful.
Omg finally a queen album <3. I love Queen and this album is incredible.
Innehåller Bohemian Raphsody - say no more.
The best
I used to live in a cramped Brooklyn apartment with five roommates (actually, at one point, it was eighteen, since everyone had a significant other living with them, and one girl also had her boyfriend, her parents, her grandparents, her sister, and her sister’s boyfriend all in one tiny room, but I digress). At night, we’d get drunk and put on music. Everyone was allowed to add to the queue, so the mix was eclectic. By two in the morning, our party will always have devolved into a sloppy singalong. The only main through-line is that you knew that at some point, Bohemian Rhapsody was going to come on, sometimes twice, and that everyone was going to sing their heart out, often driving themselves to tears. Perhaps the rest of A Night at the Opera isn’t at the same level of BR, but any album containing a song that can achieve that condition has entered the realm of immortality. Therefore, coupled with a thousand memories (including one of my dad on stage lip syncing the opera section of BR), I have to bestow this gem with a five out of five. I should also add that the production quality here really stands out. People may not love the song about the drummer being in love with his car, or the vaudeville tracks, but damn do they ‘sound’ good! Also, I have to give a shout out to the overshadowed Prophet Song, which is truly epic. Love of My Life is searingly beautiful. You’re My Best Friend? There really is a lot here, oceans worth of gold, in fact. It makes me live, now honey.
Uno de los mejores de la historia
Masterpiece... I'm in love with my car goes so hard
Classic. No notes.
Heard it before. Queen is one of the bands of my childhood so they have a special place in my heart 5/5
Alltime Classic.
Opera-rock
Easily a 5, my first one. Weird, fun, and genre-hopping, with exquisite vocals and instrumentation.
Amazing
I had a good time at the opera.
An astounding record. Total camp, Queen/Freddie style. So much fun to listen to, there are layers here probably still being discovered.
Amazing artistry from Freddie
This and Jazz are probably my favorite Queen albums, but boy, what an amazing body of work! This particular record has probably the broadest range of styles on any single Queen album. Super fun.
gooood
Overall, very solid
Unsurprisingly, operatic rock. Tons of amazing vocal harmonies
Obvious masterpiece. Prophets song middle debatebly as good as the bohemian rhapsody middle
A masterpiece! Whether you like hard rock or not you can't deny the genius of this album!
I've had a bit of history with Queen when I was younger. Safe to say, this record did not disappoint! Still holds strong to this day among rock's best. Glam might be a little outdated, but Freddie Mercury's vocals more than make up for that. Overall, still a great album i'd easily recommend.
Magnificent as Queen can be, this album is a must, so diverse and grandiose, in a very good sense, in its best sense.
A superb album. I grew up listening to this record front-to-back on repeat, so I'm probably a bit biased. But I was very curious to re-listen to this one, since it had been a long while since I listened to it, and I wanted to give it a critical listen. It was better than I remembered. Mercury has such a powerful and expressive voice he breathes life into all the tracks he's on. May is a ridiculously good guitarist, his solos here are amazing and he also plays the occasional odd instrument like the harp, which gives the compositions a lot of extra width and character. Taylor also serves the songs really well with his drumming, loved some of the fills ("The Prophet's Song"). Song-wise, it's just back-to-back bangers. The only song I feel is inferior in quality is "Sweet Lady", which feels a bit average and cuts the momentum a bit. But aside from that it's all just very high quality. "Death On Two Legs" is a great track, super emotional and powerful, a great opener. I love "I'm In Love With My Car", it's a great hard rock song, it's super heavy and Taylor is outstanding here. "The Prophet's Song" is a huge epic, they sound great and it's a super interesting journey. "'39" is a beautiful little folk ballad that's super catchy and nice. So far the album is stacked with great songs, and that's without mentioning the 3 biggest hits. Not much new can be said about them, but they remain as great as ever. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a prog rock classic, one of the best songs ever. Even if it's been overplayed like hell, it remains a masterpiece.
5 stars just based on Bohemian Rhapsody alone. Easily one of the greatest songs ever written.
Sounds like a blast!
This is quite a personal album for me. I remember when I was little and my family and I were in vacations, my dad used to put my sister to sleep with this album as the background. Well, I know I wasn't the one to be put to sleep, but I was in the same room as her, so I can assure you that I was also snoozing with this, so it counts! I liked some of the songs so much that I even download them into my PSP. I'm telling you, 'Seaside Rendezvous' maybe the most child-friendly of the whole album thanks to the goofy sounds. I did also like 'The Prophet's Song' and the atmospheric feeling it had, specially the second part of the song, where they use a lot of layers and choruses. To think that my love for ambient music goes as far as when I was about 6 years old is rather fascinating. There was also a time in my teenage years when I added my fathers CD to my Itunes library, and this was one of the albums. But I don't get as nostalgic about this period as I do for the one when I was a child. Now, as a 23 years old guy with a much formed opinion in music, this album returns to me. It still is my streaming platforms library, but it has been a very long time since I listened to this project as a whole... and it stills fantastic. The production is incredible and the performances are insanely good. Even in the weaker tracks, (I'm looking at you, 'I'm in Love With My Car'), the execution is so incredible, that I can get a lot of enjoyment out of it. At the moment of giving it a score, I took a lot of time, and I finally came to the conclusion that, if I don't give it a 5 stars, I would be lying to myself about how much this album impacted me. Even though I don't think it is perfect, it is personal enough to give it 5 stars.
Bohemian Rhapsody is definitely the highlight. Also liked love of my life. There’re lots of registration changes. He is very good at head voice and mix belting, and he makes it sound effortless. But can also be a bit too theatrical sometimes. It’s still a five! Liking the album doesn’t make you gay!
Loved it. It was a 4 without Bohemian Rhapsody and that alone is potentially THE Song of Songs. Added a few tracks and likely will be back.
Me and my friends once said Queen was more of a singles band. We were so extremely wrong.
Iconic. Need I say more? Queen is one of the most influential artists of all time and this is them at their best. Bohemian Rhapsody is still relevant to this day is has been for 50(!) years. We also get Brian May's best song at lead vocals in '39. There's a little bit of everything here for everyone, but the whole album still flows so well song to song. Favorites: - Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon - You're My Best Friend - '39 - Love of My Life - Bohemian Rhapsody
1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. I'm In Love With My Car 3. Love Of My Life
Freddie is the man
One of the best rock/pop albums of all time!
For Nick
Look, I'm not a contrarian, but Bohemian Rhapsody is not the best song on this album.
I went into this having heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" (as I've lived on the Earth for 22 years and it's hard not to), but not much else from this album. That song would probably get a 3.5/5 from me, and I do think it would get grating if it were the whole album. However, it's not, and what they chose to do outside of it is almost all good in my opinion. "I'm In Love With My Car" is a 70s rock song in every sense of the word, but one that's perfectly suited to my cheese tolerance. "'39" came out of absolutely nowhere and is very likely my favorite song on the whole thing, as something about it is just so pretty to my ears. The only thing I'd really call a miss would be "The Prophet's Song," which just overstays its welcome. The a cappella part in the middle sort of goes on repeating the same three words for two minutes, and it feels like an intrusion on what was a fine enough song before and after it. Overall, this whole album surprised me in the best way I could've hoped. Is this partly because I listened to it with a friend who's been Queen-obsessed for a few months and who fed me all the little fun facts? Probably. But even disregarding him, there's a reason this has stuck around for 50 years come November.
Favorite Track: Bohemian Rhapsody
It was a bold choice to release this as a rock album, so bold they made a movie about it. Things worked out pretty well for these fellas...except for Freddie. He died of the aids.
The question of England, In All Its Englishness, was the subject of so much late-Sixties, early- to mid-Seventies British rock music - from the Kinks to Pink Floyd to Paul McCartney's post-Beatles work - that it's sort of odd to realize that Queen, known to most as the foot-stomp stadium-shout lads, were working in that same tradition. It's even odder to realize they might have done it better than any of the others, McCartney very much included. I know you're not supposed to try and remake Sgt. Pepper but they may have pulled it off here; witness the time changes on "Sweet Lady" (shades of Pepper's "Good Morning Good Morning"), Brian May's McCartneyesque vocals on "'39," the George Harrison-influenced guitar solos throughout the album. And "Bohemian Rhapsody," of course, a reminder that the Beatles were themselves trying to create pocket symphonies - and never made one quite as symphonic as this.
The first Queen album I’ve really enjoyed from start to finish. Absolutely brilliant. Top Track - Obviously Bohemian Rhapsody speaks for itself but I really enjoyed The Prophet’s Song
Queen never fails to amaze me. I actually avoided them in the 80's because they were, and I am being fair here, "overplayed." It led to this kind of saturation state, especially with just a few specific songs, that turned me off to the band. Fact is that is what turned me off to commercial radio at all, and I went college and alternative, which, by irony, went mainstream after a while as it caught on. Anyhow, so for a long time I just never paid attention to Queen. Until I did, recognizing the actual brilliance of this band and it's lead singer. Of course they are solidly placed in classic rock, but when you dig deeper, listen harder, they are so much more than that! They wrap really serious stuff into fun riffy rock-n-roll, with of course an amazing Freddy Murcury. Hard to go wrong actually...
Freddy mercury <3
Not my favourite Queen record, but it definitely deserves 5 stars. The composition and musicality of this album is outstanding even to this day. Amazing record.
A pretty much perfect album. Iconic. Highlights: Bohemian Rhapsody, Death On Two Legs, You’re My Best Friend
Very fun, enjoyed the whole thing! Loved the mix of serious and unserious songs. What a joy Favourites: You’re my best friend, Lazing on a Sunday afternoon, Bohemian Rhapsody
A perfect album, not even a song about loving your car can ruin it. If anything, the rest of the band letting that song on an otherwise flawless album is a testament to their friendship Fav songs: Love of my Life, Bohemian Rhapsody
One of the very best albums
Really great, I have heard a lot of this before but not as the full album. Between all the production and the skill behind it, there's no doubt that it would be a classic album for Queen
miss you, dad
So many great songs. Standouts are Death on Two Legs, In Love With Car, Best Friend, 39, Bohemian Rhapsody
Quite good
Perfect!
Good good
oui
gosh the people who don't like specific music because it's popular are so dull. This album is fun, cooky and popular for a reason. Although I wouldn't say this is my fave Queen album, she's a unique masterpiece to say the least.
Lazing on A Sunday Afternoon is a banger So many Queen songs I'd never heard... did not realize there were so many I hadn't heard? Fuck! Prophets Song also extremely interesting! OH SHIT this is the Bohemian Rhapsody album! Lmao. Anyway excellent start to this series I had a lot of fun! 9/10 (unprofessional rating)
It’s Queen, what else can you say? This is one of their best albums overall. Bohemian Rhapsodyis probably my least favorite song on the album, but even it is great
Mamma Mia, this is epic!
So full of personality
God give you grace to purge this place And peace all around may be your fortune Ah, ah, children of the land Love is still the answer, take my hand The vision fades, a voice I hear "Listen to the madman" Ooh, but still I fear, still I dare not Laugh at the madman ____ The only negative thing that I can say about this album is that it maaaaaybe could be 1% better if it had more of an idea behind it, and maybe it's not my favourite album of all time, and maaaybe there are some songs that aren't my favourites. However, it does contain hits, bangers, underrated bangers, cohesive style, car song, prophet song, the popular song, the time travel song, the "I hate our business-guy" song, the UK song, the popular romantic song, the lovely friend song... Very strong 5.
Holy wow like hoooly wow
one of my all time favorites. classic. perfect.
If this only had Bohemian Rhapsody on it I’d still go 5/5. That song is so good. Trying not to always be hyperbolic but it might be the best song ever. The rest is cool, but not something I’ll regularly go back to. That drop tho in BH…. Sheesh
We've got a banger here. I feel like a god damn moron for never doing a Queen deep dive This album checks all the major boxes of a 5/5: at least one radio hit, under an hour, various styles, 1 skip max. Im a big fan of the continuous feel of a rock opera story from start to finish. It doesn't limit the style of each song (feeling like metal in The Prophet's Song to the really poppy piano driven ballad Seaside Rendezvous and that sweet sweet 70's rock vibe of Sweet Lady -- fucking loved that washed over guitar tone in the intro). Worth noting how great the album intro and end are. God Save The Queen somehow found a way to follow Bohemian Rhapsody to cleanly wrap the album work up in a tight bow Lets talk about the two hits: You're My Best Friend - this song is incredible. Maybe my all time favorite from Queen. The full powered backing vocals truly make the song for me. Bohemian Rhapsody - like some of you out there, I probably heard this song far before I watched Waynes World, but after watching that movie is became permanently associated with it. It was an obligatory revisit for me so Ill leave the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2IQE6ZpNZ0
❤️❤️❤️
On of my favorite albums
Back in the late 70s or early 80s, my brother and I were visiting our grandparents, and one day for some reason we decided to rummage through their record collection. Amongst the other stuff that I don’t even remember, we found a copy of this. We listened to it and loved it, but why was it there? My Grandpa was very musical, played a lot of instruments, and had been in bands in his youth, but it was definitely not his type of music. And there’s no way my Gran would have liked it. Were they among the purportedly large number of people who bought this album thinking it was actually opera? It’s definitely a possibility, given that when we asked at the time, we never received a satisfactory reply. I like to think they’d heard a song of the album somewhere, and it spoke to them enough to buy it. But they fought like cat and dog, weren’t into science fiction or fantasy, and owned a Mitsubishi Lancer EX which, although a strikingly angular car at the time, wasn’t something you’d fall in love with. I guess I’ll never know, but it’s always fun listening to this album, and imagining their reaction when they first played it.
J'adore l'invention a 2 voix dans the prophets song
Sauf p-ê pour Peter, Paul and Mary.
6 stars
What can be said that hasn’t already been said? A masterpiece.
Fifty effin’ years ago! Bohemian was a big part of the then soundtrack of my life. Thanks for the memories!
A wild and great album. I hope the scene regarding this scene in the Queen movie are true because it wouldn't at all be surprising. A Rollercoaster ride of amazing music. I dont know how often I'd listen to the whole thing again but the vision and execution or impeccable. Id still chalk this up to the Pink Floyd school of "how the fuck was this so popular?" Though. Just goes to show i do think music audiences in pre gone years has better taste. The known songs are great. '39 is awesome and in love with my car is hilarious.
An iconic album with an absolute beast of a song. The rest is crazy batshit fun. Play it loud on a really good system.
Melodic and fun, this was a great album that showcases why Queen (and Freddie Mercury) are so iconic!
OK, let’s talk about Queen, and no, I’m not about to start rambling about how they’re the most amazing band ever and how this album is some untouchable masterpiece that proves their unparalleled genius. I’ve heard that speech too many times. Growing up, it felt like every conversation I had about music eventually led to someone telling me how Queen was the greatest band of all time and how everything else I liked was basically trash in comparison. According to them, nothing I’d ever discover in the future could possibly hold up to the magnificent Queen. And then there’s Bohemian Rhapsody! I am beyond sick of that song. Between it being used in movies like Wayne’s World, blasted at every live event, and shoved into every radio format imaginable, I don’t care how good it is, after a while, enough is enough. Now, here’s the part where the Queen fans might actually like what I have to say. Other than the greatest hits album my dad had when I was a kid, I had never actually listened to a full Queen album until recently. About six months ago, I finally played my first one, and to my surprise, it was actually really good. There were a lot of songs I wasn’t familiar with that I genuinely enjoyed. The same thing happened with this album. I went in expecting the worst, but once it started, I found myself really enjoying it. If I could make one small tweak, I’d just remove Bohemian Rhapsody and take the rest. I don’t know if my gut reaction to Queen will ever go away, but at least I’m enjoying their albums a lot more than I expected.
5/5 - one of the few, truly 5-star albums out there
I went into this only knowing one or two songs but was quickly won over. This is a 5/5 record for sure
I thought this was a banger album, and not just for the songs I knew. But of course Bohemian Rhapsody is a pure masterpiece. But the other songs were either very grand and cool, or just a little silly. I like a lil silly, esp Freddy silly. This was a perfect blend of the silly and the rock opera, such a dub.
I first listened to this album in my bedroom at 16 years old. I vividly remember having my headphones on when the Prophet’s Song began to play. The experimentation with production, the harmonies, and the layering of the vocal tracks absolutely blew my mind. I knew then that Queen was an exceptionally special band. A Night at the Opera is perhaps the best example of everything great about Queen. The record sees an equal division of labour between all members of the band, and showcases each of their unique strengths for singing, song writing, instrument craft, and their collective talent for raising the bar with music production at a time when traditional rock music had begun to stagnate. While the music is undoubtedly capital ‘C’ camp, there’s still so much to admire in the risks these songs take. Each effort here is genuine, and inspired. The quiet moments like Love of My Life are heart aching, and between legendary tracks like Bohemian Rhapsody, you get playful jaunts like Seaside Rendezvous and ‘39. Some of the lyrics here are fantastic too (“you call me sweet like I’m some sort of cheese!”). Brilliant. Queen never took themselves too seriously. They always had fun, and put creativity at the centre of everything they did. Nowhere in their discography is that clearer than here. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Just fantastic. Queen is unique and extravagant in the best ways.
Yes! Just yes. I mean, if most of the world's population can sing along to your entire 6 minute long song, you've probably done something right. 5/5
Colossal sound. Guitar that unmistakable and sets a vibe unlike many others. Incredibly rich palette of sounds on this album from theatrical (Lazing on a sunday afternoon) to hard driving (I'm in Love with my car) to little poppy (You're my Best friend) and country ('39). Incredibly well produced and performed.
Classic
Queen’s best album and I love it Darling! And you know what I really love the car song. Haha
The mere fact that this is the album with Bohemian Rhapsody on it means that "A Night at the Opera" had potential to be a 5 star album. The song is just remarkable, bold, complex, and extremely catchy. It's like a little mini rock opera with constant twists and turns, and yet it remains so engaging from start to finish. They honestly could have expanded that single song into an entire album and it would have been amazing. Thankfully, they didn't, because the quick pace of each section is part of what makes this song so memorable. The album was the most expensive ever made (at the time) and it's clear that that was mainly down to the complicated nature of that single song. The record label supposedly hated it and though it would never sell. How wrong they were! The rest of the album holds up very well against its top track. "You're My Best Friend" and "Love of my Life" are two of Queen's best songs. The album as a whole represents Queen at their peak. Their fantasy heavy metal past mixes seamlessly with Freddie Mercury's love for theatrics. Even the slightly cringeworthy "I'm in Love with My Car" is forgiven within the context of the full album. This Queen's mangum opus and proof that they were much more than a singles band.
This album is fantastic. Between the musical diversity, the greatest voice in rock history, and excellent lyrics this album goes all out all the way to the end
Always fresh. A really influential album that I like. I think the Prophet's Song is fine to listen to once, but has become a skip at times. Otherwise, flawless album.
For me the unanswerable question for Queen is "Do I prefer A Night at the Opera or News of the World?" The answer has always been a pendulum that swings back and forth endlessly. At this time I feel as though A Night at the Opera has the advantage. I think this because it's a wildly creative and experimental album. The concept behind it is very interesting and it's almost a no-skip for me. News of the World is a very rock solid and tight experience - for better or worse. I find that one to be pretty front loaded with the best songs, whereas A Night at the Opera feels more consistent throughout. A really really well done piece of rock music and deserves its place in history. 5
Surprisingly many songs that did not work for me on first listen... But it has the best song of the world on it, so 5 stars.
Perfect mix of crafty songwriting, smooth harmonies, crunchy glam guitar riffs and Freddy's soaring vocals (GOAT). A total masterpiece. One of the greatest records of the seventies, and the best album they produced.
awesome. Would definitely listen to this all the way through again.
I love Queen and I love this album. I could listen to this all day and i just might.
I grew up on Queen but never heard this, great mix of genres and sounds. Some really darker rock sounds as well as the softer ones. Great riffs from Brian May and of course, Bohemian Rhapsody!
Huh, who knew that Queen has so many good songs hidden behind their hits? Everyone knows and likes Bohemian Rhapsody, but just how good I'm in love with my Car is? Great album with slightly underwhelming side B, where only the single stands out. For sure one has to celebrate how diverse Queen's music is. Basically each song has a different style, sometimes the mood changes mid-song, really impressive that they make it work. Maybe I should be a fan after all?
Never listened to this the whole way through.
Mamma Mia. First time with the album, and it is striking how weird it all is, from front to beautiful back. Bohemian Rhapsody might not be the strangest song on the album - it fits right in, snuggled neatly in its place. God Save the Queen. They're our finest export, bar none.
👌
A Milestone - very diverse and pleasant songs, as well as an anthem that is played at many parties
Super entertaining from start to finish with great instrumentation !
Yee
very cohesive sound and each song could standalone well.
You know what, fuck it, I’m giving this five stars. It’s the anti- “hotel California.” Where that song acted as a negative force dragging down the rest of the album into 1-star territory, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is good enough to round up this album to 5, even if it has some really dorky segments. Overall it’s just pure Queen! I will purchase a copy of this. Must-listen #119.

oh mamma Mia

Death on a Sunday afternoon o la psicodélica (hablamos de Queen) I´m in love with my car. You´re my best friend es un clásico.
Love this album
Difficult to put down at the start, and then finishes with one of the best songs ever written.
Great album!
# Album Name: Night at the Opera # Artist: Queen # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Well, this is not how i know queen but WHAT an album. Really enjoyed this one. It has such a range of styles. It was an absolute pleasure to hear the band go through the different styles. To the banging solo's to the folk track of 39 and even in love with my car! The first 6 tracks are great. And the album finishes up with one of the best tracks ever in Bohemian Rhapsody. Great album. A grower for sure! # Top Tunes: Death on 2 legs / Sunday arvo / love with my car / my best friend / 39 / sweet lady / BR / Prophet song # Would I listen to it again? Yes
Amazing album. Pretty much bonkers, but the musicianship is incredible, it has enough massive hits too balance the firsts into weird genres. Just brilliant.
Flamboyant, entertaining, nostalgic, breathtaking... Queen at the start of their absolute peak. How can you fault this? (I can, and I will: the fucking song about the car) 4.7
Queens music of often too Broadway for me, but I have to go with a 5 here. The production and effort on The bands part was absolutely top notch. The playing and dynamism were both on fire through the album (even in a song as stupid as “I’m in love with my car”) which reminded me of Abbey Road in that it had a first half which included some silly songs and a sweeping medley in the second half. Ending with God Save the Queen was a nice touch too.
Obviously the hits are great, but Death On Two Legs and '39 are some great album cuts!
this is another album i obviously knew songs from but didn’t know in full. how did i forget how good queen is. this is so awesome
5 baby! Hot 5!
A trip. Bombastic, overblown, theatrical, technically stunning and innovative. Prophets Song is absolutely amazing - the Freddie solo is jaw dropping. Bohemian Rhapsody nuff said
Rock star
a little bombastic rock n roll and one of the best voices in music? All this AND Bohemian Rhapsody? Yes, please!
I mean it's A Night At The Opera by Queen idk what you want me to say
Masterpiece, as expected. 5/5
Lots of fine albums came out in 1975 (best year in Rock after '66?) & this one is near the top (Physical Graffiti being at the very top) in that magical year of living prog rock as Punk lurked about prepping for a takeover of the status quo that would fizzle out with a dull thump much as the summer of love had done a decade earlier.
What a banger, especially for someone who usually isn’t too keen on the rock from back in the day. Of course I sang along to the entirety of Bohemian Rhapsody… I mean Wayne’s World kind of instilled it in me to also bang my head to the song at just the right moment. lol
The way I see things, there are three great groups of western pop music which have that special Midas Touch where everything they touch is instantly transmuted into something valuable. The third place goes to ABBA and first place to the Beatles, leaving the second place for, of course, Queen. So 'valuable' should be taken very broadly here. All three bands have some certified stinkers - hell, even this very album has I'm in Love With My Car on it - but that's not what I'm talking about. Instead, think of it this way: if some fun could be had out of this song during a karaoke night after approximately 2-4 drinks or on a roadtrip where the bumping of the car has lulled you to a state of semi-delirious half-slumber, then it's valuable. If a song manages to leave an emotional footprint of any kind other than total tedium, it's valuable. Of course the vehicle-coveting song is stupid, but when asked about it in five years, you will surely remember it being there, or the time you and your sleep-drunk friends bellowed along to it on that aforementioned roadtrip. At their peak, Queen just couldn't create an unimpressive, forgettable song if they wanted to, regardless of the quality. I guess what I'm saying is, this album is of course imperfect. But boy, does pretty much every single one of its (many) musical ideas fill my stomach with pure joy. Every time they hit one of those four-part aaaah harmonies, I smile. Every time Freddie starts a Music Hall-esque piano rag, I smile. Every time Brian May does that high nyouuung thing on the guitar, I smile. Some music is made for pondering, chin-stroking, catharsis, bewilderment etc. etc., but this music is made for making you feel like a balloon filled with childlike excitement; and it's second to none in that regard.
Top tier album. This is a 10 of 10 album to me.
I was really excited for this album! It was camp and theatrical. Not too many big hits on it, but Bohemian Rhapsody in itself deserves all the stars Freddie was so talented, what a voice. And Brian on that guitar was 🔥 5 ⭐️
Need to do a deep dive on Queen, casually throwing bohemian Rhapsody in as the second last song on an album full of classics is insane
This is #day202 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... it's hard to wrap your head around, but this year marks the 50th anniversary of this masterpiece. Experiencing A Night At The Opera now as part of this challenge, you can't help but appreciate the fact that Queen went into the studio with one goal: to create the best album they possibly could. They may have even surpassed themselves. The recording technologies, the wide array of instruments, and the way the musical and vocal styles blend together all contribute to the essence of this incredible record. It simply begs to be listened to on vinyl. I've always loved Queen and firmly believe Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest singers, artists, and showmen of all time... no one stands close to him. A Night At The Opera is arguably Queen's finest work, or at least their most iconic. This album feels like what happens when a band is faced with everything to gain or lose. Because what they achieved here is truly timeless. I'd go as far as to say this is the album you'd want an extraterrestrial to hear. It's a 5 out of 5, no question. Looking forward to #day203.
was a 4 before seeing bohemian rhapsody on it, absolutely loved the hypnotic rock melodies through it all
Queens of Rock.
Such a great album, whimsical, theatrical, powerful and full of Queen spirit. Amazing.
Flawless. No notes.
Have enjoyed this album dozens of listenings. Timeless and perfect every time.
That was a wonderful album, I definitely jammed through Bohemian Rhapsody and I knew a few other songs but I was surprised to hear the majority of the songs for the first time and they sounded wonderful. If this is not a 5-star album, I don't know who to give 5 stars to, so my 4.75 stars are getting upgraded to 5 stars.
Hard to give it anything else (5)
good stuff
Queen was my favorite band for a long time. They still might be. So, I already have this album. I've listened to it many times. I already know how I feel about this one. The lows: I'm In Love With My Car. It's not bad, but kinda boring, and I think "car songs" should at least make me feel like I want to drive to it, and this one doesn't. The highs: the rest of the album. They've got some weird songs sprinkled throughout, but Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon and Seaside Rendezvous are fun and exactly as long as they should be. I want to give special mention of two songs. First, the too-long-for-radio religiously themed suite incorporating multiple genres and great harmonies and vocal layering, The Prophet's Song. It's Bohemian Rhapsody, but better, and I will die on this hill. Second, '39 is my favorite Queen song. It tells a powerful story in three and a half minutes. It's a great song that hides its emotional complexity behind an interesting story and a stripped back music production.
Such talented musicians and song writers. Another precursor of orchestral rock. What else to say… 5/5
An incredibly varied album oozing creativity and musicianship. Almost no genre is left untouched - it even has a country song ('39) which don't care much about, neither do I care much about the more cabaret'esque songs (e.g. Seaside Rendezvous). With that out of the way, it is still a solid 5. Most importantly, this album has amazing prog-rock and I even spotted Caroline Shaw-like glimpses of contemporary (I mean 2020's contemporary!) vocal classical in The Prophet's Song. Of course, in Bohemian Rhapsody, most of these styles are combined within one song - and it works. Great singing by Freddie Mercury (RIP), amazing harmonies, superb guitars from Brian May. "They don't make them like this any more".
When it's Friday and I'm not in love, I go painting in the Louvre.
Positive, main character energy - everything you need to put a smile on your face. Meditation effect. I loved it, even though have never listened to their albums in order:)
Nice
Complete classic with great song 4.7
For as many hits Queen has, there is still a ton of their music I have never listened to. And this album kicks off with a kick to the teeth; Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...) is just so good. This labum then goes off the rails for the next 40 minutes, switching fenres every other song before landing on Bohemian Rhapsody. The only real dud here is I'm In Love With My Car. And by the time its over and I'm angry that it's here, You're My Best Friend starts, and no one can be angry with that song. Probably my favorite Queen album yet.
Brian May's guitar tone is outstanding. I've never been a big Queen fan but I recognize everyone in this band is a musical genius. They have some of the best songs from the 70's. 5 stars all day.
all timer
I was in doubt whether to give this album a 4/5 or a 5/5, since there is obviously some weaker tracks on here. The sheer musicality and the memories this brings back, however, push it towards a 5/5 for me.
Honestly never remembered what album Bohemian Rhapsody was on. But what a fun journey seeing what it was written with!
Have already got this on CD and spent many happy hours listening to this during various car journeys. I often find that Queen can be hyped up and not sure if all their albums deliver in the same ways as ANATO. For me this certainly lives up to the hype and there a number of bangers on the, obviously BH, but also Death on Two Legs, love of my life and I'm in love with my car (yes, it's the drummer singing and not Freddie. But, what a voice!). I know that the prophet's song is not everybody's 'cup of tea', but I like it for its experimental edginess and, dare I say it, prog rock potential. Maybe this album is the reason that Queen are hyped up, and if so, it definitely deserves 5 stars.
One of the greatest records of all time
At first, this is a pretty ok album, some classics and some experimental stuff. Generally very enjoyable. Then, Bohemian Rhapsody turns out to be from this album. What a masterpiece of a song! One of the all time greats! It singlehandedly makes this one of the best albums of all time. The fact that it holds up and still stands strong after 50 years is very impressive!
samo hitčine pogotovo opskurnije numere, pun mi je kurac bohemske rapsodije i love of my life
For some reason, I've never really had much urge to listen to Queen albums - the Greatest Hits was alway enough for me. Having said that, I've enjoyed all 3 I've got so far. This is the best of them though, some great non-single tracks in addition to the fantastic singles.
