Reviews (page 3 of 8)
Vocals were not really my thing but overall pretty cool sound.
Has potential.
Previously known. Love it.
I'm actually surprised how much I liked this one considering how much I pretty much didn't like *Rid of Me*. But I can see definitely her influence on alanis Morissette, who really did a more commercialized version of this album, and even a lot of what hole would do in their next two albums. I almost want to listen to her follow-up to see if maybe my heart will lighten on it after listening to this. But this is almost three points (or a star and a half) higher than what I gave *Rid of Me* (8.7) ★★★★
Raw and emotional! A female Nick Cave. 4.5 stars
I thought this was a really good debut. I don't like it quite as much as the next two albums, but there's undoubtedly some good stuff here, including "Oh My Lover", "Happy and Bleeding", "Sheela-Na-Gig", and "Dress". 4 stars.
Not her best album but very good. She is a local from where I come from and use to see her live frequently. Great live show
I was surprised to find that this was her first album. It is more raw than ‘Let England Shake’ and I think that drew me in.
According to last.fm, the last time I listened to this album was 17 years ago! I used to have 'Rid of Me' on repeat, and only listened to 'Dry' a handful of times, so despite being familiar with some of PJ Harvey's work, this actually felt like a new experience for me. Enjoyed that throughout especially the opening run of tracks. Ultimately I think 'Rid of Me' is still the better album, but this comes close.
I love this album, the voice is amazing 4/5
2/18/26. Love PJ Harvey’s music the more and more I listen. She has the classic alternative sound that I love and her songwriting is consistent. This album is a strong debut.
This had art in the sound. Liked it very much.
(there's originally a 650 words long rant about the reason that i an anti-feminism but due to the irrelevence its deleted.) *sighs* it's (of course) not as good as stories from the city or rid of me, but since it is her debut, it's alright. but its still a 3.5 for me cause stories from the city impressed me too much and this album didn't impress me much apart from dress, although i know debut albums are always weaker than later works. 3.5/5
not that her other music is bad, but this was a far more interesting listen than other stuff i heard from her. i like this grungier sound its great, wish she stuck to it
I really should listen to more PJ Harvey. Both albums of her that I’ve gotten for the list have been good. Basically more of the 90s alt rock that I already love plenty of
Excellent!
A good album, I liked Dress and Victory the most.
This is even better than her other album. Bangers. 3.8.
I used to have "Rid of Me" on cd but never listened to "Dry". (fake-edit: on listening, I realize I'd heard "Sheena-na-gig" before). Finding I like this a lot more than liked RoM, which I remember as somewhat less accessible and doing more with discordance, although to be fair I probably need to give that a re-listen. Was expecting this to be weak 3 stars, buts it ended up being a no-skips 4 star. I'm adding most of this album to the rotation, great find for me by the site. This was the kind of album I'd overlooked which I was hoping to get turned on to when I signed up.
Sounds good. A bit forgettable, but I enjoyed it
First ever PJ Harvey album! I'd love more reverb on her voice. The songwriting is stellar and angsty, reminding me of Liz Phair. The production to me is like a mix between 90s alt-rock and Dire Straits' debut (3.5-4)
I like the 90s alt rock sound.
My first encounter with PJ Harvey was 2011’s LET ENGLAND SHAKE. A year or so later I gave RID OF ME a shot but bounced off it. This one by comparison I think is a little more friendly as an introduction, really strong melodic hooks with an attitude.
not the best production but it does show how good of an artist she is where the songs still come through. Truthfully too listening front to back the fact that it's not the cleanest production does add to it.
My favorite PJ record of the two I've heard so far. "Dry" might be the perfect descriptor of the sound of this record. Definitely a raw record, one that doesn't compromise and favors authenticity and natural occurrence.
women do music better
Easiest 4.5 of my life.
PJ rules. I dig this a lot.
7.5/10
Plants and Rags is painfully out of tune; otherwise the album is quite enjoyable, and authentic. 7/10
Found myself really enjoying this debut from PJ Harvey. Great listen.
I hate this front cover!
It took me a bit to get used to her voice, but once I was used to it I really liked it. Think she gets a lot of emotion across and I really enjoyed the vibe of the album. Probably one I will listen to again now I know what to expect. Fav song: Dress Least fav: Victory
Geiler shit
Okay so I have to admit, it took more than one listen to really understand this album. So glad I gave it a few chances because I absolutely love it now. I explored more of PJ Harvey after this and really have full in love with her music. She has such a powerful voice, it gave me the same feeling as when I listen to Bjork. The music to go with the voice is a bit chaotic, in a good way, and the voice just cuts right through the chaos. I personally love how experimental the band are in this. The music is nice and progressive and builds nicely on every track. The bass is outstanding, love it in ‘Water’. I do think she better material than just this album, that being said the sheer rawness and the fact she just chucked her all at this because she thought it was her only chance really does come through to the listener. Favourite tracks are: ‘Sheela-na-gig’, ‘O Stella’, Water’, ‘Dress’, ‘Plants and Rags’, ‘Happy and Bleeding’, and ‘Hair’. Definitely gonna be a revisit one for me.
I had to go back and listen again because I sometimes miss what she is saying. I know it is strong because of the emotion she evokes with her voices. Sometimes that is a bit over the top, but overall it worked for this album. I am really enjoying more of this girl rock.
I like these early PJ Albums. Very raw rock and roll. I can pass on Hair. She's all on about a bible story and not that great of a song. Victory is one of my favorite PJ songs. Also like Oh My Lover, Dress, Joe, and Sheela Na Gig. Btw... A sheela na gig is a middle ages pagan fertility carving of a naked woman displaying an exaggerated vulva.
I really liked this. A raw and rockin' take on being a woman frustrated with men who suck. Favorites are Dress, Victory, Happy and Bleeding, and Sheela-na-gig.
Sensational song writing with vocal and guitar performances to match. Love it.
I had a some PJ Harvey songs on a few playlists, but nothing from this album (yet). What a shame. From the fuzzy bass riff that opens “Oh My Lover”, through the little bit of country twang sprinkled everywhere, to the dissonant strings of “Plants And Rags”, I was totally hooked and along for the ride. If I had to pick a low point, “Plants And Rags might be my skip track. Those jarring strings really spoil what could have otherwise been a good acoustic breather for the record. Instead, we get one of the more abrasive/eccentric tracks on the record and I’m not convinced we’re better for it. There’s a track with similar strings, “Man-Sized Sextet”, on the next album (1993’s Rid Of Me), so it’s obviously something PJ wants. Who am I to really question it, I guess? On the other side, “Sheela-Na-Gig” feels like the most radio-friendly single but it’s missing the little bit of cowpunk that permeates the rest of this album and doesn’t feel fully representative. It’s not a perfect album, but it’s one where the bugs all feel like features. Every decision feels intentional but the results still feel raw in all the right ways. I’m sure there are several more listens in my future.
A few great tracks and some filler; not her strongest in my opinion but it was a debut that promised more great things to come.
"Dry is such a catchy album. Although some songs are better than others, it is a sharp, dark record with a feminist edge. You definitely won't regret your first listen. 4,4/5
Female rage! Enjoyed this, I could listen to more.
was a very fun listen
Feel like I’ve always been missing something with PJ Harvey, that everyone else gets. Let’s see if this is the album to persuade me otherwise! Appears not…. Just doesn’t grab me, feels a little uninspiring but I can see how if you are into this vibe, it maybe hits or feels quite unique. Maybe growing on me a bit. Some nice rhythms and groove and at least different to the norm. Fair play to the innovation and ingenuity and given I give that so much stick on other albums, probably warrants a 4*
Está guapo pero no me fascinó
Very grunge-ish
pj... een van de beste vrouwelijk artiesten aller tijden
Good vocals, 90’s alt

everyone who rates this low is going straight to hell RIGHT NOW btw. theyre not even waiting for you to die its just gonna happen right now
Really enjoyed the first three songs. Apparently listening to this album at an airport is significantly more difficult than at home; the dynamic changes were much more bearable in a quiet environment. The songs were also quite engaging and had interesting structures, as well as hooks. Also enjoyed PJ Harvey's voice. Looking forward to when she comes up later in the generator 4/5
Best Song: O Stella I had never heard anything by PJ Harvey before this. I think I always got PJ Harvey and KD Lang mixed up and never gave Harvey much of a chance. I was very pleasantly surprised here. Solid musicians, a much more punk/alternative sound than I ever would have thought, and an overall nicely put together album. I actually can foresee myself listening to this again. 4/5.
Would listen again
Never a more apt album title. This album is requires a particular mood but when you are there: dehydrated physically and emotionally, it echoes out of the dusty cave of your heart and scares those blind moles who live there.
PJ Harvey is such a fucking badass. It took some real stones to debut in 1992 with an album titled "Dry" that's full of songs candidly exploring female sexuality, patriarchy and the complications of heterosexual relations. It's also an apt description of the sounds within, an austere mix of blues, punk and rock. The taut drumming of Rob Ellis demonstrates why he's been a fixture of her backing band all these years. I'm not gonna look, but I'd be disappointed if this is the only album of hers that made the list.
Great debut, holds up
Though she's certainly succesful it feels like she should have been even bigger than she was coming out with an album like this in 1992. A British singer channelling both Riot grrrl and Grunge and whatever modern rock thing was happening and doing her own thing with it. Noisy in the best ways.
4.0 - Very Good
Dry is a confident and powerful debut by one of the most important artists of her generation. It may wear its influences on its sleeve more than later PJ albums when she had truly found her own voice, but it remains a strong statement of intent. It’s an intent that she has delivered upon many times over, but for some, this debut remains definitive. Either way, Dry is the foundational step in an artistic career of many highlights and few compromises.
Great
V good
Like an extra shot of espresso while I was cooking breakfast
PJ Harvey doesn't miss
There's actually a lot of good stuff on this record. It all kind of sounds the same. But i'm willing to chalk that up to my unfamiliarity, but she sounds great. The tone is awesome. This is definitely worth a lesson
Curioso cuanto menos, supongo que no es lo que me esperaba segun las expectativas que me ha dejado la primera cancion, que han sido muy bajas, acabo opinando que parece un album infravalorado.
I missed PJ Harvey in the 90s. The cover led me to expect something completely different, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Love me some PJ Harvey.
4- Stars (10/15)
Not bad
Not ground breaking but a very, very solid straightforward rock album. I do prefer some of the later albums because of the variety in sound that Harvey uses, consistently reinventing herself and taking a different slant on styles. No songs grab me from this in the way that something like ‘to bring you my love’ does but enjoyed it regardless.
Raw and original. I really liked most of these tracks.
A very strong debut - in many ways, this is a good encapsulation of what a debut should be. A bit raw and rough around the edges, but with enough confidence to come flying out of the blocks. Dry does a sterling job of combining accessibility and catchiness with attitude, intelligence, some vulnerability and an off-kilter, anxious energy to much of the playing. It's able to remain consistently interesting from track to track due to ample variations in structure, mood and quietness/loudness. It's been on my purchase list for some time, and I will be addressing that sooner rather than later.
First of all, why is this album so quite? I have to turn the volume way more than I usually do in order to not miss anything important. Second, her voice. I started both loving and hating it, but with more and more listens, her style of singing has being growing on me, although there are some moments I don't really like, those being the choruses of 'O Stella' and 'Water'. In these parts of those song, her voice sounds very forced to me. But overall, I like them. Her voice can be very powerful and some of the voice melodies are super catchy. I did also like a lot the alternative sound of the 90's with some touches of grunge that this album has. Mixed with the rough production, it gives the whole project the feeling of being raw and in your face. Very solid album, and I'm thrilled to discover more of her music.
The Good: If it’s going to get hot, it’ll be a dry heat… The Bad: Dry was not referring to the temperature… The Ugly: Guess we are missing lubricants… PJ, Polly Jean, is indeed an interesting person, and one who I don’t know too much about, except that she is repeated several times as an artist on the 1001 list… This album, of the previous ones I’ve had the displeasure of listening to, has been the most favorable. I am still uncertain if I want to give 4*, or shoot down the middle… It was kinda grungy, and I do like grunge… so I will add it to the list of albums I need to listen to again!
Дуже кріспі звук, виразний бас, самі пісні драйовові. Завжди подобався вокал Гарві. Без якихось супер хітів можливо, але й альбом взагалі не провисає.
4/5
Not my favorite PJ Harvey album, but still great.
I need to listen to more PJ Harvey.
dva albuma prije ovog ugodno su me iznenadila, a sad i ovaj. slušam drugi put. čini mi se boljim od "let england shake", koji ću sada definitivno ponovo poslušati. a i ovaj
PJ Harvey was mixed into my daily stream years ago. I've always really liked her music. This album is also pretty good. However, I've heard better music from her. Nevertheless, the album is an incentive to listen to more of PJ Harvey. 4/5
I'm kinda shocked at how much i enjoyed Dry. I've never really heard much involving PJ Harvey or her music (Unless you wanna count The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds) but oddly enough, this was the kind of music i was expecting from her. And yeah, it is some good music. It has such a rough sound with the guitars, bass and drums kinda giving it a bit of a grunge feel despite this album not really being grunge. I also think it went at the right length giving me my fill, not too much, not too little. There are some songs that feel like they don't get to the point and the ending of this album feels a little odd but aside from those two gripes, I really enjoyed this one. Best Song: Victory Worst Song: Happy And Bleeding
Very good. Another artist I need to deep dive on. 4 *
From the first song, I loved the sound and the vibe. It was at the third song, Dress, that I thought, “There’s no way PJ Harvey didn’t influence Sleater-Kinney,” and that’s a big compliment. This is a great, heavy, emotionally rich sound for 1992. The album is no less than a 4/5. I only held back from rounding up to 5 because I would have loved more variety, an expansion of some sort. Maybe on later albums? Or maybe even on my next listen? In any case, the album begins and ends so strong. I’m in.
I really enjoyed this album. PJ Harvey gets a lot out of good old fashion rock and roll instrumentation. The heavy percussion, driving guitar, and garage feel, bring energy. Most of Harvey's vocals are subdued all things considered. But she brings a poetic punch to her rebellion with staccato like efficiency and angst. She's the kind of poet that could break up with you and afterwards, you're not sure when, why, or how it happened, but you just know she's right.
Prior to listening to this record, the only PJ Harvey I’d listened to was from Nick Cave’s “Henry Lee”, and I think a few tracks from one of her other records. After hearing Dry, I’m kind of sad that I never sought her out more. It’s a pretty solid record; unique, forceful vocal performance, interesting instrumentation, a hint of weirdness (though I think this ramps up on later records). I like it. I’m looking forward to some of her other records, which if they don’t pop up here soon, I’ll just look up on my own. 4/5
Du rock alternatif sympa jkiffe
Like a breakfast of espresso and cigarettes, this album has no interest in comforting you. PJ Harvey is here to get shit done. I prefer her later albums that balance the hard edge with a bit of beauty and longing but there’s no question that this album accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do: namely, kick your ass.
Only familiar with the track Sheela Na Gig on this one, which I had thought was from a later album, not her debut. That said, this is not my favorite PJ Harvey album, but it's still pretty good and I wouldn't think twice about putting it on again. 3.6/5
Pretty good listen. I’d certainly listen to it again.
This album is harder than I normally enjoy, but it slaps. Her unique style ties everything together and the rhythm section is fantastic in its aggression. It all blends so well.
7/10
I feel like I was lured into this broad's basement where she handcuffed me to a radiator and made me listen to her band. By the end I was a little turned on
Not my usual jam but I feel like I could smoke a cigarette to this (I have never smoked a cigarette in my life)
so raw. i love pj harvey’s voice.
I wasn't expecting much from this album, but I was happily surprised! This was much more exciting and engaging than other PJ Harvey projects I've listened to in the past. Best Songs: Dress, Sheela-Na-Gig Worst Songs: Happy And Bleeding
She rocks
90's alternative female singer- songwriters rock. It's a vibe that isn't replicated anymore. The PJ Harveys, Fiona Apples, Alanis Morissettes, etc all blazed a trail for women to rock in the 21st century. Big fan and big apreesh.
Another good one from PJ Harvey. I don't really know what I like about her music so much. Maybe the unique vocal delivery? The inventive drums? The clarity of the mixing? Whatever it is it just works.
Given how male-dominated popular music has been, especially rock or alternative, as exemplified by this list - PJ Harvey get major points just for her courage and the i spurs ruin she gave so many other female artists. Great album.
PJ Harvey's debut has some great moments, Sheila Na Gig and Dress are, in particular, songs that I love. The album as a whole is a borderline five for me. Perhaps I'm being a little unfair in giving Dry a four. My knowing how good her later albums can be is causing me to mark her debut down but, the album as a whole just doesn't do quite enough for the full five.
Very solid with some great stuff on here
Álbum mais cru só que já tem muita força. Os vocais rasgam e o contrabaixo é forte. Letshuoer D13.
Great debut album, early 90 alternate rock. Has that grunge feel.
This album was, indeed, dry.
angsty, grungy, and raw
So far, I'd responded positively to Stories, and really struggled with Rid of Me. I was a bit nervous going in, as this was back to "early" PJ, but I really enjoyed it. Music has always needed women like this - unapologetic, authentic, direct. Happily, there always tend to be a few around in any generation. I liked the simple structures and arrangements, driving beats and uncompromising lyrics. A lot of emotional power is delivered, despite that low-fi production. This came up straight after Horses by Patti Smith (good lord, two women in a row) and PJH feels very much like a natural heir. And she dated Nick Cave! Not to even hint at defining her by that, but... kudos.
already heard like 20 albums sounding almost identical to this one, yet it still sticks out in some way. the passion is there, yet a bit not enough. ‘plants and rags’ is the best song
Really cool
i loooove pj harvey and i looove this. she’s very cool and i love this punk rock vibe feel so lucky i saw her live
Has a bit of a grunge-like sound here, which I like. I like the attitude and hard edge of this. I'll probably go back and listen again. 4/5
It’s odd what artist pop up on this list multiple times. This is the second PJ Harvey album I’ve gotten so far, and while I was familiar with her previously it was mostly in name only. However, I’m not upset by this. The last was pretty good, but this album feels more consistent and cohesive. It probably doesn’t hurt that it gave me 90s era Tori Amos vibes. I do feel that it requires a couple more listens to really get into it though.
3.9/the right amount of pathetic and petty. i love it
I think this is maybe the one PJ Harvey album in this project that is not quite worthy of a 5. But it's close enough that as I'm typing this I'm second-guessing myself. What a body of work.
PJ Harvey is such a bad ass. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is my favorite album of hers but I do love these raw 90’s albums too. Her expressive and haunting voice coupled with her powerful and honest lyrics are exaggerated beautifully by the ”Dry” recording style on this and many of her albums. The band sounds incredible here as well, raw and full of energy they provide the perfect backdrop for Harvey’s stellar performance. 4.5
Debut album? This has a very 1992 sound on the music. Even though I have never heard this album, it oddly sounds familiar. I have to say, I think Happy and Bleeding is my new favorite PJ Harvey song. Hair, Joe, and Fountain were also killer. Great album! 4.
I’ve always liked PJ Harvey, but this is definitely the first time I’ve listened to “Dry,” and it has all the characteristics I’ve always enjoyed about her music. I think of PJ Harvey as either the punk version of singer-songwriter music or the singer-songwriter of punk music. This album has a great use of heavy guitars that are raw and unfiltered, with a lot of gritty distortion. “Dry” stands out as a significant album, and I can see how it made an impact, considering it was her debut. The sense of rawness gives it a lot of authenticity.
Solid album from an interesting performer.
Strong debut album by Polly Jean
Despite knowing a decent amount about PJ Harvey as an artist I've not spent a lot of time with her music, but probably will after this. I listened to this twice through to make sure I actually liked it and was not just rating based on "importance" (which I do think it is that as well) and landed on it being pretty great. Emotional, dark, angsty, raw, feminist - I can definitely see how Patti Smith was a forerunner for this in some regards (and people like St. Vincent very much follow in PJ's footsteps), but I don't think much existed like this in 1992 quite yet. Kurt Cobain was a big fan and apparently this was a big influence on In Utero. I love the dexterity of her voice (when she goes into the sort of falsetto parts at the ends of phrases especially) and some of these lyrics hit pretty hard ("ease myself into a body bag", woof). Musically a lot of pretty crushing but simple riffs, and I really like the drumming. I actually started listening to her follow up album and feel like I'll probably like that one even more.
A really good album with some great songs. Another artist that I really should have taken notice of sooner!
I really liked this one, a great sound. No real standout tracks but solid all the way through.
3rd one of hers we’ve had so it doesn’t feel like there’s much more to say. I prefer her early albums, this is the earliest album, I therefore like this album. Job done.
Blistering, incendiary rock that sits right at the forefront of indie and post-grunge, but with Polly Jean’s particular brand of female-forward lyrics and poetry. Often the earliest works from distinguished songwriters is angrier, edgier, and this is no different. Yet this is the blueprint for bands like Sleater-Kinney and singers like Fiona Apple to come, and a springboard for even more exploration by PJ Harvey herself. It’s not perfect but it’s a hell of a debut.
PJ is one of the great artists of her (my!) generation, and she is great right out of the gate on her debut here. No duds, not even a bit of filler. Strong vocals, great songs, killer band.
Surprisingly excellent- never heard before
While I'm certainly aware of this album, I'd never actually listened to it.. It's interesting, and I think I might listen listen to it again.
Funny how the album is titled Dry and finishes with a track called water. The album sounds like something that could only come out after Nirvana had released Nevermind.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. PJ Harvey was a mainstay on 120 Minutes in my prime 120 Minutes watching years and she seemed cool but never my thing. I tend to avoid anxiety-inducing albums, but this is the best of her albums I've heard.
Love me everything I've heard by PJ Harvey, but I always forget that Rid of Me isn't her debut! I must have heard "Dress" once or twice, definite banger. The rest is completely new to me. Feels like the UKs answer to Kurt Cobain with exceptionally talented musicians (not a knock on Nirvana). God, if only Kurt had as much time to evolve as PJ has had. "Joe" is the standout track for me. Amazing drumming on that one.
she’s so cool
I think I like this one just a bit more than 3 stars. So Let's give it a 4.
Good album for selective listening.
jävligt rått men samtidigt tight och välskrivet. en stark fyra. Dress måste vara den bästa låten tror jag.
This was excellent. Very pleasant surprise
I like discovering her with this album. It is a great debut album with solid rock/ pop alternative songs. I like her songwriting and the raw emotions in some of her lyrics.
7/10
Another PJ Harvey album! Pretty sure this is the 4th we've had. These early albums definitely have a raw/dark feel to it which I enjoy to a degree. I also really liked the cleanliness of the Stories album. I don't know if it's the weather or what, but really enjoying this. Super dark and grungy feel to it. You can really feel her rage and passion which I really appreciate. Kinda like an angrier Alanis Morrisette.
Kind of reminds of Morphine.
This is PJ Harvey #4, and my third was just a few albums back. I didn't need any more convincing that she's awesome; I've been happy to sing her praises since the first album I generated. But convinced further, I am. Helluva debut.
Not the biggest PJ Harvey fan but this one was pretty good!
Cette chère PJ :) À réécouté.
Badass Fav song: Fountain or Oh My Lover or Plants and Rags or Water
Actually, a real solid album, but what really struck me is how quiet it was. Like seriously this album played at like 10db less than everything else I normally play, when it should have come out of the gate at like 10db more and punched you in the face.
shes good aint she
ahh the 90s...
wy tu po prostu nie widzicie wizji ale na to nie ma rady
Listened Before? N Powerful album. Hard hitting and lyrically very solid. Some of it sounds like Tori Amos, some of it sounds like Nirvana with better lyrics. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Sheela-Na-Gig
I like PJ Harvey
So this is why there was so much buzz about PJ Harvey! The first album I heard by her was To Give You My Love, and aside from “Down By the Water”, it failed to move me, so I didn’t explore any further. But this album just kicks - I see direct lineage to Lady Lamb, with the raw rock and groove elements just driving the sound forward. Now I get it
First time listening to this one and, again....why did it take so long? Great, dark, grungy songs and stellar playing and singing. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't listen and what kept me from hearing an album like this when it came out. Oh well, glad to he hearing it now.
wow i enjoyed this significantly more than the last album we had from her. after hearing this one i can understand the hype.
Very interesting rock album. Nice sound, catchy riffs and lyrics. And message is good too.
Definitely early PJ Harvey over her later works. This is a raw, energetic album that I may go back to and give more time to
Great debut album. PJ Harvey's raw energy reminds me of The Stooges.
I listened to this once, mostly while driving, didn't get it, hated it. Then I admit I cheated and read Chad's review - the Nirvana influence/comparison opened this up for me alot on the second time through. Heaphones at my desk, completely different experience. The build up in Happy and Bleeding finally caught my ear, to the point where I was like, okay I need to start from the top of the album. Oh My Lover starts super sparse too, just vocals and distorted bass, and builds in layers from there. What a cool opening track. Other highlights: Dress (the driving beat, that little twangy guitar lick with the cello/violin - super cool), Victory, Plants and Rags. I still think PJ Harvey is quite overrepresented in this list, but I'm really coming around on this one, album is excellent. Interesting intersection: Cobain included Dry on his list of 20 favorite albums. Might need to go back to In Utero this weekend.
This was very solid. Angst and amazingly feminist. You could feel every emotion she put into each song. A great album!
4/5
Really enjoyed this! Full of angst and the vocals are so raw Fav songs: Fountains, Dress
Nice female vocalist. Good sound and voice.
Rockin!
90s PJ Harvey rules
I swear I haven’t heard this in 30 years, my mate had it at school. I probably like it more now than I did then. I guess it was too bluesy at the time for me. My favourite track remains: I always thought Dress was brilliant
raw, human and interesting. I need a few more listens for it to breathe.
I do like women of indie rock.
Unsettling cover (dry lips are the worst) but great music. Maybe I’m just biased because I seem to really like grunge but PJ Harvey does it so well. For a debut aswell this is great, vocals are on point and the guitars are nicely distorted and there were really great riffs throughout. The acoustic song (plants and rags) was also so good and really changed the pace of the album towards the end. I do think the album ended strangely though, it should have been plants and rags to end it off with fountain before, water maybe just leave out (it wasn’t great).Favourites: oh my lover, O Stella, Dress, Victory, Joe and Plants and rags. Overall, 7.5/10.
Finally clicked with a PJ Harvey album. I much preferred the first half of this album (the second half got a bit too sludgy for me) but the first half is awesome.
Denna var ny för mig, men är väldigt imponerad. Väldigt rått sound varvat med sofistikerat låtskrivande resulterar i ett genomgående jäkligt intressant album. Toppen!
lady incubus. but realer. succubus. very good.
Really compelling grungy pop rock. I liked a lot of the riffs and vocal performances by Harvey. Only issue was that there wasn’t a whole lot that stuck in my memory from the album, but maybe the lack of a catchy tune is not so much a bad thing.
There was a great legal battle around this album. Len Houmous released his solo album (My Ladies Are Rarely) Dry - PJ Harvey tried to sue him, even though he released his album first! Bit of a crazy few months that was fortunately settled out of court 4.1 6/11 Sheela-na-gig
Straight out the gate with a raw beast of a rock album
Soo good. So feminist icon coded. So man-hating. Loved it. 4 stars because not my favorite style of music but still good
Classic debut .The start of an amazing career.
I have an interesting dilemma with this album. The first album I was given here for PJ Harvey was Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea. I really enjoyed it and was excited for what else would lie in store for me from PJ. Then here comes this album. Debuts are weird, since they are usually made before an artist molds into their sound. There are rare exceptions, but mostly debuts tend to be the more forgettable part of the discography. I wasn’t sure how Dry would end up and felt that it would follow that trend. However, it ended up being pretty good and made me wonder which album from PJ I liked better. It seems PJ leaned more hardly onto the alternative rock side of her music than the more subdued sound from Stories. Much like Stories, PJ’s vocals are wonderful. I’d actually say that they sound better here with the harsh guitar riffs. I know the term “raw sound” feels overused for indie rock, but it’s kind of the best way to describe this. How I have never listened to PJ Harvey before alongside Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots is a mystery to me. My only complaint is that I think it slightly fizzled at the end. The last few tracks don’t really have the same oomp. Besides that, this album makes me wonder how PJ sound evolved to get to what it was on Stories. Other than that, Dry thankfully was a lot more than forgettable, which is all I can ask for a debut. Favorite track: Sheela-Na-Gig Other hits: Dress, O Stella, Hair, Happy and Bleeding, Oh My Lover
This was unexpected and really good. I had heard of PJ Harvey but I would be hard-pressed to say I had ever heard PJ Harvey. This was some really good 90's Female-fronted Alternative Rock. Harvey should've been bigger.
Never liked pj until this album
This was good, I do prefer their sophomore album better though.
79/100. A great debut record. Dark, raw, and emotionally charged. It showcases her striking vocal delivery & gritty guitar work, and a sense of unfiltered intensity that sets the tone for her career.
I enjoyed it, its nice to hear a womens take on a male dominated field and it feels fresh
This is another “have I been living under a rock for 41 years?” album. It’s great. It’s grungy, gritty, deep and introspective, and emotional in the just the right way. I can only hope the rest of her stuff is this damn good.
Great vocals, interesting songs on another solid album. She's one of those artists that's consistently good and her music is well worth a listen.
Some classic hits from thw ol pjer tgis i feel was her sensible stage.
Glad to have been reminded how good this album is, I really don't listen to it often enough
3.6 Victory was a stand-out track. Nothing is really that weak, pretty interesting overall
Driving female energy. While it feels straight out of the 90s, it also holds up just as well today.
Rootsy, gritty. All good.
I don’t think I ever listened to a full PJ Harvey album before but man did I miss out. Going straight into my library.
To mene moje oblibene album harvey, presto vyborny
at first i really thought i wasn’t going to like this one, just based on the first two tracks, but after that it kinda grew on me. 3.5 stars bc i like it but not lovee it
Yay fierce feminist music! I want to like it a lot but it isn’t super my jam
She has a nice voice
this for running >>>
The debut of Queen Polly Jean and it's so very good. It doesn't have the guts, yet, of her later stuff like "Stories from the City..." but the bones are all there. The same raw, horny, pained, confessional that appears throughout -- and that incredible voice of hers. Probably not the place to start with her catalog (That would be "To Bring You My Love") -- but you really can't go wrong here. Unexpected bangers: Victory, Plants and Rags, Water
A classic debut album. Doesn’t reach the heights of subsequent albums, but contains some all time bangers.
Oh My Lover 3.8 O Stella 3.9 Dress 3.5 Victory 3.7 Happy and Bleeding 3.6 Sheela-Na-Gig 4 Hair 4.1 Joe 3.4 Plants and Rags 3.3 Fountain 3.6 Water 3.6 Score: 3.681818182
I heard her later albums first - what a solid start for a dynamic artist. That crunchy guitar sound just gets me. 4/5
Once this got going it was a real solid album, with an edge I was really into!
Amazing debut album Love it
Not listened before Fav tracks: Plants and Rags, Dress, Joe
Good work from Peej here. Enjoyed it a lot.
hey! pretty good... i liked it !
chilling and wibing teen angst wibes
I mostly know PJ Harvey from the "Let England Shake" album and singles like "We Float". The sound of that album is more eclectical and one might say more pretentious. This was more straight forward rock which was a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the guitar tones, the riffs and the singing. It brought a lot of energy to the mix. Felt a lot like Nirvana for parts of it. Many highlights like "Dress" and "Sheela-na-gig". Giving this one a weak 4, surprised that I liked this as I was dreading listening to it beforehand.
A big fan of later PJ Harvey albums. I wasn’t as familiar with this one but it was a great listen.
This is really good. I haven't loved some of PJ's later stuff, but I really enjoy listening to her 90s indie rock sound. And she's honestly a really great singer. There are some odd songs near the end, and I'm not sure if I like them as much as the earlier songs. "Plants and Rags" starts off as a song that I would usually end up loving, but it takes a weird turn, and that taste follows to the next song. It does end up on a high note, though. Favorite Song(s): Oh My Lover
Much better than the other two albums of PJs that were previously reviewed - which is odd considering this is her debut work. Now I feel like I listened to all of her stuff in reverse order and missed out on the progression of her work. Maybe I owe those a re-listen. I really liked this one.
Probably the best new listen I've had from this generator yet. The way Harvey's gorgeous vocals contrast with the ugly distortion of the guitars and blistering rhythm of the drums is just perfect. I'm so glad I took the plunge with this one.
3.5
Raw 90's rock.. Sure I have a soft spot this music but fantastic album none the less.
PJ is fantastic. Joe is great as well as Sheela but Dress will always be a favorite not the least because it’s a highlight memory of our wedding reception dance floor.
I liked this. Good 90s sound. Wasn't sure what i was expecting but this was better then that.
I really liked this one. I think I found that the older the PJ Harvey album is, the more I liked it. This is a solid album and I could see it maybe even rating higher on further listens.
25/03/25 Haven't heard of her before and it was certainly interesting.
I liked it, it’s nice to have a grunge era album that actually tries to push against the dogmatic strictures of the genre. Rating: 4.0
Polly has picked up the Siouxsie baton and has not stopped running. Not a bad thing.
Hvordan har jeg aldrig haft en PJ Harvey periode. Så godt
Vild debut, en af de bedste plader der kom ud af grunge bølgen
Very edgy and grungy, with a surprising amount of depth. The bass work in particular stands out as simple but very effective. Some not every song is a hit, but there is a really solid energy that keeps the songs edgy without overdoing it. Top tracks: Victory, Sheela-Na-Gig, Hair
PJ Harvey may be my greatest discovery from this project - I had never heard of her before, and I’ve really enjoyed every album I’ve gotten. (This is the fourth, and I’m guessing the last on the list.) This one felt more similar to “Rid Of Me” than “Let England Shake” and “Songs From The City…”
Although I'd never heard anything of this album before, it seemed "comfortable" to listen to, like an old friend somehow. The muddy production was a shame, but I got used to it after a couple of listens. Seems like a strong 4 star album, possibly higher, but the murky sound was a little offputting.
Up until now, I'd not yet heard an album from PJ Harvey that gripped me. This however, is gritty, ballsy and fearless. A lovely alternative to the grunge that enveloped rock music at the time - the compositions are unique and engaging, the guitars are jaggedly rich. Best Tracks: O Stella Sheela-na-gig Fountain Water Worst Tracks: N/A Rating: 8/10
I would not have clocked this as a debut album. The vision is so clearly executed beginning to end. Growling bass definitive of grunge era, but this is more indie rock with a feminist bent, but I can hear the grunge to come in tracks like Victory and Sheela.
One of my fave artists of all time. Great first album. She only gets better
Nice and raw album. I haven't listened much PJ Harvey but I've liked what I listened so far. Varied songs and a good voice she has. I did feel like Rid Of Me was a bit better though, I can't quite remember many of the songs here after the first listen.
A lot of singer-songwriter albums fall short for me because I don't care about vocals that much and the instrumentation is usually quite boring and doesn't do much to make the songs more fun. However, I happen to enjoy this heavy alt rock style of instrumentation, so Dry, while still maintaining a bit of that singer-songwriter vibe, is a lot more exciting to me. It's simple but fun, catchy, and overall a pretty pleasant listen. Gives some Nirvana vibes. Whoever mixed that needs to be taken out back, though.
'I'm spilling over like a heavy loaded fruit tree'; 'Fig, fruit, flower myself inside out for you'; 'Gonna wash that man right out of my hair.' This one grows on you b/c you start believing it, whatever it is that warrants belief. Not as obscure as Patti Smith, Harvey's also not encumbered by feminist messages or cultural critique, tho they're there and good for her for being involved. Angry, not angsty, she's full of details, stories, and memories, which is more than you can say about a whole lot of artists doing similar things but far less impressively. Musically, the drums are the unsung hero while the strings on 'Plants and Rags' are heavy and sensible. As 'Oh My Lover' started, I didn't think I'd be down. By the end, I very much was.
Great album, great vocalist. I've known of PJ Harvey for years yet I've never bothered to listen to her. It's easy to see why she has become so inspirational. Love this one, looking forward to exploring other albums.
I really liked her, despite never hearing her before. This was a nice surprise. It was a bit like an updated patti smith with less swagger
I didn't have any expectations of what this would sound like as I am not familiar with PJ Harvey, but man I can feel something listening to this. Its not super interesting sonically though its grungier than alot of the "Indie" stuff I typically listen to
Oh My Lover, love how it opens with just her and the guitar and continues to build other instruments around it. Sounds like she harmonises with herself? but makes it sound like it’s different people. It became very comfortable so didn’t listen as intensely towards the end. O Stella, that riff is so good. She has moments of using all of her vocal range with like one phrase, very impressive. This song almost sounds like it’s not 4/4 cannot figure it out. The lead into Dress is seamless. Great drums. Love the writing in this, simple and effective. Chorus “if you put it on” talking about a physical dress but i’m assuming a lot about putting on bravado too. Fake it till you make it. Victory, the guitar/ bass motive reallly strong. Makes then whole song. I think the lyrics are going over my head but it feels powerful, it’s sung extremely proud. Happy and Bleeding, woah her voice is so far back in the production. The whole this is extremely quiet. I’m getting the impression that she’s screaming into the void. No one’s seeing her worth, particularly someone she really wants. Again the guitar work is so fab, so well layered. Her tone carries over it all so nicely. The ending feels like a small crash out and i relate. Sheela, love this straight away. It’s angst and it’s great. “Put money in your idle hole” is now part of my vernacular. Hair, there seems to be a lot of religious references in this album. This one seems to focus on betrayal. I love the drums, again the guitar work in this album is incredible. Bass line is so great in this. Another one with a strong chorus and vocal delivery to match. Joe, this is stunning. Something i’d never think i would like at face value. The time signature seems to be a concept and i love it. There’s so much going on that all works so well together. a proper head fuck of a song. Plants and Rags is her ballard. It’s stripped back and still very busy. I hear a man’s vocal? Seems like that’s her to a T. It’s tension and release. Confusing and understandable. Fountain is another one that begins with her voice very much in the background. Again seems to be deeply rooted in religion. I hear a man’s vocal again. This is discussing waiting for a prophecy?? Being willing to be completely naked in order to follow someone. Whatever time they give you is precious. Water, the final track. An intro that sets a strange and easy to grasp time signature. Jesus walked on water and so do his followers? She’s “taken it into her head” but she asks “prove it to me”. What i take from it is after this whole album she’s decided in-fact, she is doubting all that she’s been taught. She’s starting to sink into the water and the music completely compliments that. She was 23 releasing this album, very close to my age. I get the hope and the doubt, the screaming the whispering. This is an album with a very strong core and after one listen I appreciate her art a lot. For a debut this is such a strong sound, with rock solid soul interwoven.
Really enjoyable, more so than expected actually. Highlights: O Stella Dress Victory Sheela-na-gig
Encore un très bon album de PJ Harvey. À ce point je ne sais pas quoi dire de plus, assurément je suis un fan de sa musique. 8/10
This my 2nd PJ Harvey album, and I think she is growing on me. Great energy and presentation. Brooding and enjoyable. I will likely revisit her work beyond this list.
Very emotional, great debut album. Favs: Oh My Lover, O Stella, Dress, Sheela-na-gig, Plants and Rags
The energy here is exhilarating, rushed, angry, emotional. All the instruments are used in the right places, including furious, atonal strings on Dress and especially on Plants & Rags, distorted guitar (plus an abrupt punk-esque ending) on O Stella, the Nirvana-esque guitar and drums of Sheela-na-gig, the rolling, mysterious rhythms in Hair… the list goes on. Harvey’s vocal here has that signature classic rock energy, comparable to that of Blondie or the Cranberries. It’s not completely refined, which adds to the atmosphere rather than detracts from it. There’s a clear punk influence here, but Harvey’s voice is significantly better than the (vast) majority of punk singers. It’s a breath of fresh air, for sure. The compositions are reasonably good, but could be a bit more melodically and harmonically complex. There’s a lot of “hard rock melody” going on here. It makes the songs difficult to sing along to even if you know them well. Many of the songs are two or three chords, meaning it’s also difficult to catch onto the melody based on chord changes. Additionally, for 1992, I guess I don’t see this album progressing enough past its contemporaries to warrant a perfect 5 stars. But it’s still a darn good showing by the PJ. 4/5 Key tracks: Oh My Lover, O Stella, Sheela-na-gig
It has the Nirvana pattern of quiet heavy quiet that was popular in the early 90s
Pretty good raw-ish alt rock. A lot of heavy power chords and lyrics coming from an honest place. Standout is "O Stella" with "Victory" as well.
I saw her in concert about two months ago! I went into it with very few preconceptions or specific expectations and I left very impressed. She’s a performer through and through, it was dramatic from start to finish, very few words were said until a break towards the last few songs. I greatly appreciated it. Anyways, as for this album here, it is a great balance of delicate and guttural. I suppose you can say that about all of her best stuff. Uninhibited vocals and raw instrumentals to back it up. A very very strong 4 outta 5.
I like the raw energy that PJ Harvey tends to bring to her albums. It’s crazy to me that I hadn’t heard of her before this whole album experiment, but I’ve definitely found some music that I like with her. Today’s album felt familiar enough when hearing her other albums, but maybe with a little less polish. It’s alt rock, so it’s always going to be a safe bet for me.
Nice voice fits ‘90s mold
Very nice. Liked her voice. Songs were nicely written and sounded good. Classic artist.
Ha! I’ve been going through a major PJ Harvey kick lately, not sure why but I’ve been loving it. This is terrific though if it’s on the list and To Bring You My Love isn’t I’ll be mad. Not mad, disappointed. Don’t let me down, list.
Pretty good!
Fantastic through and through. Holds up remarkably well.
Solid stuff. Enjoyed PJ Harvey's work in this project as this is her last album I get to listen to. Quality material throughout. Will check out more of her music in the future.
pretty good, i want to come back to it!
Such a brilliant voice
Pretty good album. I only knew her song she did with Thom Yorke, so this was a lot more punk than I expected it to be, it reminds me of Sleater Kinney. Mid 4.
This is the second album from PJ Harvey I got on my journey, after listening to Rid of Me last month. Since each album in her discography has its unique musical identity, I will judge this album on its merit rather than in comparison to her followup. In the case of her debut album, Dry is a blues-adjacent alternative rock affair with pummeling drum beats and clean production courtesy of Rob Ellis. The song compositions are straight and hit between the eyes, with the fury of a young and hungry PJ who put everything on the table from the get-go in her songwriting. There is some genuine transgressive angst in her delivery as she belts out her words that tackle relationship norms of the time, coupled with excellent work on the guitar and violin. I'm not quite over the moon yet for this album, as not every song is memorable except those with good hooks like "Dress" and "Victory". But there's no denying that PJ Harvey put an insane amount of effort into her debut and it showed in spades. Give it a listen.
A very interesting record. Reminds me a lot of Christina Rosenvinge. Cool!
Драйвовый, сырой звук, ещё и женский вокал. Короче альбом хайпик.
Compared to the last two PJ albums I've gotten, this stands head and shoulders above. Pretty great debut, not bad Peej! and Victory is a pretty damn good song, even though I thought it was Lithium at first, also wacky to find out she was a contemporary of Cobain, so thats cool. Dry was pretty good too. Just mostly good grunge rock, nothing fancy, raw lyrics and instruments, it gets a little long in the tooth, but I found it a treat despite not liking much grunge to begin with.
Not as good as the last one from her but still a nice album
A great debut album. I have most of Harvey's albums, and I might have chosen a different one for this list.
Thi is barely a 4 because the drums scratch that itch in my brain, but other than that it’s a relatively solid album. If it was lacking at all in any other department it would be knocked down to a 3
Pretty cool. Definitely feels raw and early but never fails to be interesting.
Fresh, singular, wide open, heartfelt and direct - a powerful listen
Ah esistevano le donne nella musica? Stando a questa lista sembrava proprio di no, bel lavoro PJ
Wow. Mi sento colta alla sprovvista. È tutto molto… cool. È un album diretto, crudo, piacevolmente dissonante. PJ, scusa se fino a questo momento non ti conoscevo, hai il mio interesse.
Dry is the debut from PJ Harvey, when she was still recording work as a trio, prior to moving to releasing work as a solo artist. Harvey is a singer songwriter that puts lyrics out of a folk song to a three piece, edgy rock band. These are angry, inspired, articulate songs that are engaging both for the storytelling and the catch hooks. Harvey's emotional songs match the power chords and heavy bass lines of her work. Her stained, expressive vocals fill the pictures she creates with depth and impressive range. Her songs are interesting glimpses of her experiences, like "Dress," with plenty of undertones about the impacts of these elements of her life.
PJ Harvey's floor is always at least 4 star album, in my opinion. She has that darkish style, which sometimes feels like an unplugged black metal. But her more optimistic and neytral songs are relly good as well, the whole record fits together stylistically, pretty good debut album. Dry lacks a bit in hits and singles, but overall it's easily an above average position on the list.
3.5. Polly Jean is an excellent player and songwriter with a good band. I enjoy this from time to time.
Only good and mostly raw indie-rock-songs. But I´m not 100% into her voice. favourite: "Dress", "Hair", "Joe" weak four stars for this album 3,5
Thoughts before listening: PJ Harvey is one of those artists that has been a mainstay of rock music writers since I started paying attention to music. Besides a few songs here or there, I have never been able to get into her, although I'm not sure I ever tried all that hard. I believe this will be the first time I've listened to one of her albums all the way through. Review: This sounds like 90s alternative rock which means I like it. The only track I recognize is "Sheela-Na-Gig" and thats a great song. Overall I wasn't blown away by this album at first, but it did start to grow on me on repeat listens. I think it was just so similar to other 90s alt rock albums I have listened to over the year that it didn't grab me, but I recognize that this is likely because PJ Harvey was a huge influence on a lot of those bands. This is 4-stars.
PJ Harvey is one of the most underrated rockers of all time
An excellent album, raw and creative. I'd rate it a high 8 but for these rankings that is a borderline 3 or 4 star for me.
so much angst love the vocals guitar and drums are insane really fucking good! 4.5 (i love girl rock)
Alright, back-to-back repeat artists! My first PJ Harvey experience wasn't quite as special as something like my first Depeche Mode experience, but I did like Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea quite a bit. I thought it was a pretty good album. As for her debut album, Dry, it's also pretty good! The sound is great. It's just a solid alt-rock style that appeals to me. The vocals are unique in a good way. The writing is solid. Many of the songs give off similar vibes and might be similar in what they're about, but the writing for each song combined with the sound creates a desirable variety in its tracks. Overall, while I liked Stories marginally more, Dry is still a good debut that shows a considerable amount of talent right from the get-go. Low 4/5.
I like it, and will listen again when I'm feeling angsty.
Really enjoyed this despite the intensity. Good mix of tracks
4/5 - surprisingly good; kinda weird I’d never heard of her
What a lovely departure from 1989. Beautiful lyricism that’s both complex and simple. Just a joy. With a few more listens it may be a perfect 5 but for now
Still sounding fresh.
the main singers voice was a little strange and honestly I'm not sure if I liked it but I really liked it?
9/10. Nice rock music. Great vocals. I really enjoyed its artistry. :)
This album sounds cool. Liked songs: Oh My Lover, Dress, Happy and Bleeding, Hair, Joe and Water
- loved the grunginess and energy of this - her voice was good
7/10 I love me some PJ Harvey. This isn't my favorite album of theirs and nothing stands out as amazing, but I just like the band in general and so I really enjoyed just listening. 6-11-2024
Never got into PJ Harvey a lot but I like it, good vocals and good guitars
This is a really catchy and well made grunge-adjacent album. I really enjoy most of these songs and have a real appreciation for PJ's ability to craft a song. 4/5.
Stunning debut, this is a rich and somehow still raw album. Sheela-na-gig is a great singalong. Some complex instrumentation here as well. Hope there is more PJ on the 1001, I have some of her later work and it's great.
Wasn't familiar with PJ Harvey before this but she rocks hard! Really like this album, great angsty rock record!
Wild to me that this is a debut album - PJ has such a defined sound at this point and it's electric to listen to 30 years on. It's really fun to listen to - a little grungy, snarly, but also tender too. Best Track: Dress Worst Track: Hair
Im a big PJ Harvey fan. This is not one of my favorites, but its still really good.
B teir
Good stuff
As opposed to many albums on this list, it only takes a few seconds to realize that this band is actually trying to express something. If I heard this when it came out I would have been a fan and probably would have gotten into their second album more than I did. I will definitely listen to this some more but not sure it suits my current lifestyle.
Interesting discovery! It was like listening to Alanis Morissette in a grunge band. I feel like one day wasn't enough to properly appreciate this. I'll need a few more rounds to digest it properly. I wonder where I was, I had never heard this before...
A great debut album from PJ. I've enjoyed the other ones that I've gotten and still be meaning to do that deep dive (especially since I'm seeing her live a few times this year at festivals). 4.5/5
Alt rock. I think I liked this a lot more than "Stories". I liked the grungier, punkier sound she has on this album more than the singer songwriter indie vibes. I will admit that this album definitely was not nearly as refined, but sometimes that adds. There's some time signature stuff going on that I like. I like her singing on this and the instrumentals are good at what they're there to do. What I like the most is the edgy, sensual lyrics and the overall energetic and catchy songs. They're simple but man it just works. I think this album has the chance to really grow on me. Would love to relisten. 4/5
I really love this album, it feels new, raw and emotional. Really good album. Favourite song: O stella or Oh my lord. Great tracks Least favourite: Water Album artwork: Iconic album as all of PJ Harveys album covers are!
Good stuff man 4/5
Listening to this album makes me feel young and tough. Watch out, you might get a bloody nose.
Not always super listenable (looking at you albums from 2020s), but I love a lot of her stuff (stories from the city) and am very glad she makes music.
I'm a little surprised I haven't listened to this fully in the past. Quite good.
The first album by a woman in how long? Besides that this was still very good, haha.
