While I might not give this album a full five stars in general, I'll be doing it here not only as a counter for this being (currently) second to lowest rated album on the whole site, but also because I think this is the kind of album that truly defines what SHOULD be on a "1001 albums you must hear before you die" type of a playlist. It might not be – in a big picture – commercially relevant, but it's a albums like these that truly define a marginal but overly passionate genre of music and is culturally far more relevant than any random mainstream one-hit-wonder or otherwise meaningless trendy thing from a short period of time in the past this list also has. It's albums like these you SHOULD hear at least once in your life to know just what kind of music people in the underground, in the shadows of the mainstream are overly passionate about. I completely understand why people might not like this, as it's clearly not for everyone (and then again what even is?) but I hope it makes at least a couple of people think what might be the idea and inspiration behind something like this.
Oh, and it's still a great and pioneering record in its genre regardless, don't forget that.

The kind of music you’d hear playing on the radio in a public space and remember absolutely nothing about afterwards cause it blends perfectly into the endless mass of other similar, thoroughly sterile, harmless, modern soft rock bands.

Nothing really wrong with it, but will I ever listen to this again? No. Will I even remember that I listened to this album a couple of days from now? No. So in a way an "okay" album that's thoroughly forgettable and unremarkable is a lot worse than an album that's genuinely bad but at least leaves a memory and a mark with its awfulness. This is just lukewarm and irrelevant.

I've given this band a chance a number of times back in the day, since on paper they should be something I'd enjoy a fair bit. Never "clicked" for me though but since that HAS happened with some bands in the past, I was excited to see if I'd finally "get" this band this time around.
Sadly, it still didn't happen. I don't really know what it is. No melodies that'd give me the chills, no grooves or rhythms that'd get me going, singing and lyrics feeling bland too. I'd almost want to like it more, but that just... didn't happen. Such a shame.

My first intuition about this album was that it looks like the most 3/5 album ever. And what do you know, the rating for it was 3.01, so I was spot on. And it really is a pretty good 3/5 album too. Some very nice tracks here, some underwhelming ones, you know how it goes. Really liking how 90s it sounds and feels.
The Doors
2/5
Never had that certain urge to get familiar with The Doors nor had I ever read or heard anything that would've gotten me interested enough. Well, looks like I haven't missed much since this album doesn't really do anything for me. Riders on the Storm is decent.

I think calling this merely proto-punk or punk at all doesn't really do it justice, since particularly the latter side of the album goes way beyond what I'd call punk personally. Either way, I went through the album twice today and it's an easy 5/5 for me.

This is so far-eighties there should be hatecrime laws for it. The lyrics couldn't possibly be more shallow and superficial but sometimes that just is what you're after. A lot of these songs and the production also reminds me of many different Mega Drive games' soundtracks, which is a nice bonus. Overall I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

Coming from rock and metal background, it's always been hard for me to get around to and approach the different culture regarding artists in the more modern electronic music scene. If I hear an interesting I want to know the artist, listen to their albums all the way through and all that, instead of just hearing cool songs on random mixes or playlists and leave it at that.
That said, I've been really wanting to get more familiar with the music itself and this compilation definitely is a nice way to get to know at least some, obviously highly praised and legendary material in one of the subgenres. And I'm liking what I heard quite a good bit. Shame, that the issue I mentioned first still exists, but this is probably the best way for me to get to know this type of music.
And remember to check the ACTUAL album, not the wrong one this site links to.

The title track took me by a complete surprise. Sounds absolutely like something off a late-70s krautrock album. Easily the best Abba song I’ve heard.

I have no reference point for this kind of music as I’ve never barely even heard any before, so it’s surprisingly hard to give an opinion about it. Doesn’t help that I’m listening to it in the middle of the darkest and coldest winter and not while laying on a Senegalese beach.
That said, I think this is exactly the kind of music this list SHOULD have more instead of, what, seven Bob Dylan albums. More interesting and remarkable music from every corner of the world, please. I’ll give it a three just for actually being on the list.

Anything that’s not in English on this list automatically gets an extra point from me.
That said, I’m such a music-oriented person that I rarely listen to – or even notice – vocals or lyrics in music. This is true with English rap as well. No matter how I try to concentrate on the lyrics, I quickly notice I’m just vibing to the song itself and forgot to listen to what they’re singing about. Therefore French rap doesn’t really differ all that much from my usual experience with a hip-hop record. In fact, not understanding anything helps me to focus on the rhythm and flow a lot more than I thought.
In that sense, this record definitely helped me broaden my understanding of hip-hop and that’s really the best kind of experience you can get out of this list. They really should just put more non-angloamerican music here cause what new is that seventh Bob Dylan record really going to give you?

For a brief second, after seeing the cover, I was hopeful this might be prog or – even better – some early 70s synth ambient. Then I checked Wikipedia and saw "country". What an absolute letdown, fucking hell.
…and to no one’s surprise, it’s shite. Well, not actual shite; I can tell it’s probably perfectly fine country but since this list – like all criticism in general, in the end – is subjective, I have to give it a mere one star simply because it doesn’t do anything for me and I have very, very low tolerance for country in general.
