Reviews (page 9 of 14)
Mr. Brownstone, Think About You y Rocket Queen, al menos, valen la pena.
Has entered the realm of "yeah its a classic, but I would also be happy if I never listened to it again"
i desperately needed this album after a week of god awful albums… so i really enjoyed it. i needed a hard rock and this is perfect. it’s just a good, loud album.
Classic songs on there, sounds very of its time but still good.
Better than I remember, but still not the breed of nihilism that I would listen to on a regular basis.
good album, it slaps, 2 or 3 classics
One of the most complete hard rocking albums of all time. GNR’s best. Also a trip down memory lane for us people of a certain age.
Classics
4/5. Might just be the most overrated album of all time.
One of the better album from GnR
Part Led Zep, part Aerosmith, part AC/DC (and a lot of other bands) ‘Appetite For Destruction’ is as raunchy and sleazy a debut as anything that came before it. Where it’s different compared to other hard rock albums of the era is in the nasty, mean, and grim undercurrent that runs through the album. However it’s also full of terrific hooks and riffs, meaning it’s a record that still thrills and feels dangerous, even today.
Klasyk
Some excellent classic tracks ! 4*
Hmmm... sneaks a low four. Mainly so as to not mess up my genre ratings! No really, obviously there are one or two classic songs in there but generally I find GnR quite parodic and tiresome.
One or two of these at a time are awesome. Not a surprise that his voice gets grating all at once though. By the middle of My Michelle I had to take a break. 3 stars for good headbangin’ rock straight through, and an extra star for the 45 seconds of Sweet Child alone.
classic
Nothing notable outside the big three. Best track: Sweet Child O' Mine
I respect the classic songs on this album (that aren't Sweet Child of Mine because that song was never good), but the rest of the album around it just isn't very good.
Yes. Yes. Yes! I love Guns n Roses and squealed when I saw this as my album of the day. WHAT A TREAT
Profane, grimy, and messy
One of the most popular albums in American history and this is my first time listening to it. It definitely rocks; a headbanging delight; hard rock at its hardest. "Sweet Child O' Mine" remains an anthem. Besides the other two well known hits "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City," I was fond of "It's so Easy" and "My Michelle." The lyrics on all these songs are not warm and charming, but that's rock 'n' roll I guess!
I was never a big fan of Guns N' Roses...I found their rock a little hard for my tastes. Even so, I don't know how I never listened to this album before. Listening now, I don't know what all my fuss was about...there is nothing that extreme here. The tracks are quite listenable, although I doubt I will listen all that often.
Buen disco, mucha energía y potencia.
This is one of the biggest album of all time. It put Guns N' Roses on the map. The amount of hits is unreal.
All the G'n'R classics in one place. What is this, some kind of greatest hits?
Classic
Solid album. The hits are definitely hits but some of the other songs kind of fall flat.
What a debut. Some songs that aren't so great, but they still keep the vibe going. If you like hard rock that doesn't waver on that description, it's a good album to hear. Highlight Tracks: 1, 5, 6, 7, 9
Classic and great album. Hard hitter. Anthem album.
Pretty good. Groovy jams, but questionable lyrics/subject matter. Also these songs are so overused in movies so that detracts from them too
great high moments goeie energy little samey throughout
The hits here really hit, especially Paradise City. But the deep cuts really don't do it for me at all. Still, the singles and the overall production are enough to carry it to a 4/5 from me.
One of my favorite all time guitar players is Slash. Guns & Roses is a definite classic, can’t say anything bad about this band.
Now this is classic rock! I was shocked to hear the F word on multiple tracks without a parental advisory so I can only imagine the young kids who's parents caught them listening to this and called it the devils music. All their best songs on one album plus some other ok hits. My appetite was quenched as I was destroyed by these balads.
I still can't believe I saw them live, they're not that great, but some good songs in there. I'll go with 4, but 3 was close
Its funny to me how much this album now sounds like electrified honky-tonk to me. In any case, it was still thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. The radio anthems that are nearly impossible to not sing along with, still hold strong, but the rest of the album is a solidly stable collection of tracks as well, that doesn't really leave much room for complaint - assuming you can get into the style at all. The production of the album is vocals and guitars forward and it's pretty obvious why (Axle, Slash and Duff - I mean, come on!). In contrast, the rhythm section could basically be any studio artists out there and I'm not sure it would feel any different. All around, a good one to revisit.
The songs I already knew didn't stand out so much to me, but the newer ones sounded so refreshing to me. The energy was through the roof and I couldn't help but have a good time.
Fun, lots of classics. Can't say I really actively listened, but still enjoyed it while I worked.
This album is hugely impressive, obviously influential, and overall very fun to listen to. I’m not a huge fan of Axl’s vocals, but this is still a great album
Another flaw in the 5 star rating system. This is a high 4 point something but can’t go 5!!
Still holds up. Great fucking metal album. Slash is a guitar god and I finally got to see them all just a few days ago.
4/5 obviously yes!
Great Rock album, awesome of course as a debut album, but overall it has three great songs, couple of good songs and the rest of the songs fall off, being a three ish, so overall this combines for a good 4
Obviously there are a couple of big hits on here (Welcome to the Jungle / Paradise City / Sweet Child O'Mine). The rest of the album is good. Very solid CD, not convinced it needs 5 start though.
Guns n' roses.. I knew this day would come.
Maaaaaarrrr they got hits boiiiii.
What a classic! Not every song is worth listening through but the amount of absolute bangers on this album is mind blowing. And to think it was a debut album that started off with Welcome to the Jungle!
Good old Dad rock baby
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Welcome to the jungle, My Michelle, Sweet child O' Mine
Obvious bangers. Overall, aight🇹🇬
Pretty good
Axl Rose is a prick but this is a classic album.
Groovy dude.
Great debut album with the hits "Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City", and "Sweet Child o' Mine". Fantastic guitar work by Slash.
Definitely GnR at their best. Deep tracks are vulgar and almost comically rebellious. Fantastic hard rock album.
Didn't thought I was going to like it, but ended enjoying it. Might listen a couple of times more.
Nice to listen to, great energy
typical 80's rock. Solid album for metal/hard rock.
Fun listen. Lot of the songs could have the last minute cut.
Surprised I haven’t listened to this before. There wasn’t a bad song on the album. Really good!
Not my vibe so much but bangers aplenty so can't complain
(Listened to Before)This is a childhood favorite so definitely biased, but this is one of the best hard rock/hair metal records ever. Listening back more critically this time, there are definitely a couple meh songs on here, but nearly everything is enjoyable and there are too many classics on here for those mediocre tracks to hurt my overall view hurt the overall record. Best Tracks: My Michelle, Rocket Queen, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Welcome to the Jungle Worst Tracks: Nightrain, You’re Crazy
.
Fun times.
The great tracks offset a couple of weaker ones
Paradise City alone deserves a 4
Canciónes fav: It's so easy, Nightrain y Mr. Brownstone. Mood: Welcome to the high-pitched voices
First ever listen but know the big tunes. Welcome To The Jungle is a work of art, one of the best album openers ever. Fucking love it. Sweet Child has always pissed me off for some reason but appreciate why it's so famous. Overall it's shit hot but not a 5 for me.
Great album
Welcome to the Jungle is one of the best rock songs I have ever heard
Mon hit: Sweet child O mine. Criss qu'elle est forte.
An appetite for bangers
Has some good songs on it, not my favorite tho
More fun than I remembered.
Pre party bops
Sweet Child & filler
Decc
Looking for energy?
Cool guitar playing, but a bit aggressive for my taste, especially the lyrics
Loved it when I first heard it back in the say, but now I think apart from a couple of outstanding tracks, it's very samey
Peak 80's hair metal, my guy.
This might be enjoyable, can't remember the songs on it. Forgot what a banger this was. Might be cheesy and corny, but It took me back to my teenage years..really enjoyed this one.
Classic.
A classic album for sure with some of the bangerest bangers on it but the interim songs weren't so good.
Really solid all the way through. Several huge hits that don't feel dated. This album must have seemed revolutionary when it first appeared 4/5
Clássico da adolescência. Como Axel cantava....
Wow....I did not know Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine were all from the same album.
Ainda assim, merece 4 estrelas. PS: versão demo da Don't Cry no soundcloud parece Lynyrd Skynyrd
Classic, but a wholly overrated band
darn good
En ole tämänkään pumpun suurin ystävä mutta albumille on eksynyt useampi hitti, voisiko jopa sanoa hittikimara. Perus rokkia. Axel Rosen ääni on kyllä persoonallinen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eh I’m not that hungry.
Never could mesh with GNR and this album confirms it. I'm not sure what about it with them in particular, maybe the screeching vocals that sometimes come out of nowhere? Or perhaps the flirting with glam metal and the related atrocious lyrics? Maybe the generic (even though some of the riffs sound sick) hard rock sound? It has to be something, or some of it. I just can't get with it. I mean some of the lyrics are ludicrous, how did the lyrics ever get past the testing stage? The lines in "It's So Easy" are so funny: "I see you standin' there / You think you're so cool Why don't you just / Fuck off." Even though the lyrics aren't 'great,' the delivery makes up for the quality of the line. As well the snotty instrumental, reminiscent of "Brand New Cadillac" by the Clash. Slash's lead playing and Duff's bass playing make up for some of the downsides it has. Slash I believe is one of those guitarist that probably made a deal with devil in the middle of nowhere during the middle of the night. Axl Rose brings down the album heavily; I don't like the vocals at all. Maybe that's apart of the appeal of GNR, the sloppy vocals that match the debauchery themes. I wouldn't recommend this one, but I can't help but feel I'm missing something as some people absolutely adore this album. I wonder wonder why. Highlight Song/s: "It's So Easy", "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O' Mine"
I enjoyed the pace and the production within the album, I may visit it whenever I’m fuming
Really not a big guns and roses fan, but when they get it right, its awesome! So for sweet child of mine, paradise city and welcome to the jungle I'll give em three stars 😆😆
I guess? Sure
The singles are good; it's really something knowing the band never really came back after this first album
I admittedly have a love/hate relationship with Guns N' Roses. I actually don't mind their songs in small doses, but I absolutely cannot stand Axl's voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me. I feel like he's just screaming at me, and in this case, he screamed at me for almost an hour, which is way too long. I have to give this album credit for the amount of hits it has on it. Also, if you read up on the album, it was a bust when it first came out. It wasn't until after the band campaigned to have their music played on MTV and radio stations, and toured non-stop in small clubs everywhere, that it finally gained traction and ended up being one of the best selling albums of all time. So, it belongs on this list, but I will not be listening to it again.
fine js not really my vibe
Brilliant album, listened to it too much when younger, lots of classics. 3/5
Got some classics on here! Its fun but not something I want to listen to on the regular. 6/10
fave song: Mr. Brownstone
I enjoyed this album but not as much as other rock albums I've heard. At the time, this was probably special but now there's other bands doing it better.
The singles are the singles for a reason. The deep cuts are deep cuts because they fucking suck
Everyone has heard these singles so many times that, for many, they have lost their luster. The non-singles were not enjoyable to me. I think the only song I still like on this album is Sweet Child O Mine. It's obviously a classic, but having heard it, I will not intentionally listen to any of these songs.
5/10
lots of recognizable stuff on here. pretty fun time all around
Good
3 bangers, resten fillers..
I övrigt höjer jag volymen till Welcomw to the jungle, Out ta get me, Mr Brownstone, Paradise city och Rocket Queen.
Hursomhelst klarar man trean. Riktigt bra för genren.
När de koncentrerar sig på gubbrock är det rätt bra, som It's so easy. Även hitsen Paradise och welcome to the Jungle håller.
I thought id enjoy this more than I did. Its not quite hair metal, not quite punk, not quite crunge. When its good it combines the best of those, but at its worst it combines the bad parts. Lyrics have not aged well. Guitars good but a bit over the top and repetitive in parts.
Favourite Songs: Welcome To The Jungle
Classics but overall each song sounded the exact same
Fun to listen to the classics. Otherwise not really my kind of thing. Weirdly the production felt very flat- might be my beats earbuds!
Mid.
Even though I had a huge negativity biased view of this album going in (the popularity, the videos, the characters) this album was pretty consistent. Even the songs I didn't know were of decent quality. Slash is a superstar, who created leads that people still recognize today, decades later.
I am not a fan of Guns N' Roses, but I know and understand what important shifts in music mean in genres, and this album represents a shift in metal...and also the end of a golden era of metal. Metallica and Guns N' Roses produced their best music in the late 80s at the right time. Any later, and it would have been a wash (Metallica would be the only true survivor).
does what it says on the tin. some classic tracks some forgettable tracks
Never got around these guys. I had fun nonetheless tho
Somehow worse than what I remembered. Still a solid album, maybe I haven't had enough pussy to comprehend it's greatness.
Even though you can’t beat some of these classics (even if they’re overplayed) and good riffs, some of this still feels stale. Likes: Welcome To The Jungle; Nightrain; Paradise City; Sweet Child O Mine
This album has some huge singles (Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O'Mine) but I personally dislike Guns & Roses - they're almost a parody of an 80's mainstream hair metal band. The lyrics of Nightrain were dumb and the last two songs gave me invasive throughts about whether or not Axl Rose takes off his bandana during sex.
Dad type music. I am neutral on this 👍
3.25 - I don't like the non-singles as much as the songs I've heard a million times.
Dont like guns and roses
3.8
It would she's been wild to be at the tour for this album . Nasty rock!
Cool for two weeks when I was 14.
Some rockers, some ham fisted clunkers, GnR were definitely a thing though. Three and a half.
It’s not bad, I like it. But I do not love it, and I do think it is a bit overrated
welcommeeee to the jungleeeeee
Kinda full of bangers
I enjoyed this
It was fine
Banging tracks really.
I acknowledge the impact of this album, but I've just never enjoyed Axl's voice.
The classics are great, the other ones a bit less so.
Undeniable how classic the hits are, albeit overplayed. Somehow one of those albums that I'd heard 5 tracks a billion times but not sure if I've ever heard it all of the way through. Like much of this brand of music, the misogyny is on a high tier, and in this modern world, it thankfully sounds dated and inappropriate as song content. That definitely brings it down to a 3.
Cool album. i really do love classic rock but guns n’ roses isnt my favorite so far. i would say 3/5.
Never listened to this album before. The hits really do hit but man, there's some gross tracks on here. I've got a better appreciation for Duffs bass playing now though!
Twelve year old me loved this album back in the day. Now that I’m approaching fifty, I can take it or leave it. Axl Rose’s screeching vocals do get irritating over the course of the album. That being said, “Paradise City” and “Welcome To The Jungle” are both great songs.
3 good songs
can be fun
I listened to majority of the album, I enjoyed every single song so far! I will definitely listen to it again. I felt like by the end of each song, the energy transferred onto the next song? it’s a lovely, exciting album. I will gate-keep it :p jk, I would recommend it to someone who is new to metal/rock music, like myself.
its good
Great hits, rest was decent
A classic hard rock album from Guns N' Roses. Very catchy and has some pretty strong hooks, and plenty of iconic moments. An extremely conventional and commercial type of music but still quite enjoyable. It's a very entertaining listen, even with some misses it still keeps attention. It's more interesting than most other commercial hard rock albums from this era. It is extremely unadventurous though and many of the songs are not particularly special. Still though this album has a good energy and there is some very solid instrumentation. Slash is a pretty good guitarist and has some solid riffing and fairly impressive solos that give this album it's sound. This album has incredible amount of staying power, still being rather relevant to this day. Axl Rose's voice can get very annoying at points though and the vocals don't really add much of anything to this. My favorite song here is probably Nightrain.
Not for me, but I get it.
Rock de toda la vida
Nicht so mein geschmack
3.4 3x fun album
Used to have this on tape back as a kid. Been a long time since I listened. The singles are standouts, the rest standard 80s hard rock to my ears. Could have dropped a couple of tracks easily. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Yes Owned: Yes: 70/280 (25%) Will I get: Already have
Overall an enjoyable & easy listen. Favorite track was Mr. Brownstone. It's an influential and very well-made album, but it's hard not to cringe at how 80's it is!
If this was my first time listening, I’d easily give it 4 stars. But I’ve heard these songs a million times…they are so overplayed. So I’m giving it a 3 but I don’t know if that makes sense haha
Never listen to this music but still three songs i know a Vladivostok classic
It’s like Motley Crew trying to be Aerosmith or AC/DC and trying to look really hard and dangerous but failing at that.
Hard to know how to rate a kind of same-y album of a genre you don't love that also features one of the best songs ever written ...
Guns N' Roses wrote 'Welcome to the Jungle' and then tried to do it again 11 times more on the same album without anyone noticing. Fortunately for them, it was a banger of a song and hard to make unlistenable. Unfortunately for them, by the time the first song is over, you've heard everything this album has to offer.
Gut
The big songs from this album are classics for a reason, but again I’m running into the ‘all the songs kind of sound the same’ wall.
This was a good one for the most part. The hits hit the hardest, but I was surprised how different the non hit songs were from the singles. Not that they were totally different, but a lot of this album feels like filler between masterpieces.
Something I've learned about myself through this process - I'm fine with sex talk in music (see Prince), but really don't like misogynistic lyrics. Certainly some rock 'n roll classics here, most of them overplayed, if you ask me, but I can't look past the misogyny.
I liked the songs I already knew, but didn't love the songs I hadn't already heard.
Too insanely overplayed for me to really enjoy it beyond having a basic level of respect for it at this point.
Its rock, its metal, its pop and its camp as Christmas.
Some of their biggest hits
Some memorable songs and some weak songs.
Lo escuché por partes
legalzinho
I want to respect it but atp I hear some songs and they’re just too overplayed for me… anyways the first song reminds me of the time I went on a pub crawl with some friends and we ended up at this arcade bar and we went down these dark stairs which led to a door that had a sign that was like “welcome to the jungle” and we went in and there was like at least 30 middle aged guys who just stared… idk what that was all about but it was a tad creepy lol
When you first hear Guns and Roses, it sounds like a series of impersonations. Axl does his best Robert Plant in “Welcome to the Jungle”. Duff channels Ozzy in “It's So Easy”. Slash brings Jimmy Page, AC/DC and others into his guitar styles. But, all of these influences blended together have sort of become the GnR sound. Full disclosure: I'm not a big GnR fan. I used to make fun of the over-the-top cheesiness of their songs (and videos, looking at you “November Rain”). I never took them fully seriously. I mean, they're one of the main offenders of hair rock. But to be completely fair to them, they can write some great songs, and obviously Slash is a class guitarist. “Welcome to the Jungle” is a great song. The intro does such a good job at building anticipation. And then straight into that fantastic riff. Let's just brush past the gall of Axl’s Robert Plant impersonation, and all of his “sha-na-na-na-na-na-na knees knees”. The breakdown in the middle of the song, building back up to the main riff is genuinely really great stuff. While Jungle still sounds quite Zeppelin, “Paradise City” is where that GnR sound starts coming out. The lyrics are cheesy and cringe as hell, but the chorus is seriously catchy. To be utterly predictable, “Sweet Child” is the third standout track on “Appetite for Destruction”. Sure it's become a trope. You can just imagine Fintan the accountant at his office Xmas party, rolling up his sleeves to show off his air guitar skills. But let's get past that. The riff is iconic for a reason and the song, underneath the parody it's become of itself, is genuinely good. The rest of the songs on the album act as filler to these three hits and, on the whole, they're pretty dull. I could happily live the rest of my life knowing I wouldn't have to listen to them again. But those three big-hitters are a different story. They’ve been so overplayed, so parodied, so absorbed into the world of “Fintan at the Christmas party” that it feels embarrassing to admit they’re good. But they are.
Highlights: Welcome to the Jungle, Nightrain, Paradise City, Sweet Child O’ Mine, You’re Crazy
Best Song: Paradise City. If more of the GnR oeuvre had the same insane, frenetic energy as the last two minutes of this song, they'd have been a much better band. Worst Song: It's So Easy. You can really perceive how edgy they felt by adding "fuck" into the lyrics. Overall: The hits are gargantuan cultural staples but I've never much of the rest, which gives the whole album an uneven balance when listening to it 40 years later. That said, the middling tracks do have a characteristic "Guns N' Roses" quality that is in a way refreshing; this is a band that always lets you know who they are. The album is fine to listen to on a lark, but it feels dated in the way that a lot of old hip-hop is dated. I appreciate them for what they contributed to rock, but they've since been far surpassed by those they influenced. Also, like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", I think I would be fine with never hearing "Sweet Child O' Mine" ever again.
A few great songs, and several mediocre ones
i like paradise city and sweet child o' mine
This is one of those big albums. It's hard not knowing some of these songs, it's so classic even if you hate it, you probably kind of like it. At least, that's how I feel about the album's opener, so I came into this with an open mind. We know the songs we know, all the singles and the radio-play classics. There's a couple of songs I hadn't heard before, and they weren't a chore to get through. Listening to this as an experience, Slash is probably the main reason for this band's constant success, though the lyrics and vocals do have a classic timelessness to them. It's definitely a must-listen record, but I wouldn't buy it. It's got too many cringe moments for me to play it regularly. 3.3/5
A guitar hero amount of points for you Slash
Okkkk we got some classic rock. GNR definitely followed/updated the glam metal/rock template to a T. Probably a bit too much because they all sound the same. I think there's a reason why the two songs here are overplayed.
Needs more cowbell!
The hits are great. Hits for a reason. The rest was to me more grating and meh. Not a fan of Axl’s voice. Slash makes this record for me. 3.5/5
High highs, but the rest is same-y and not my vibe
Welcome to the Jungle (4:31) me gusto mucho el instrumental, muy power i like ittttt 8.8/10 maybe playlist It's So Easy (3:21) buena pero me aburrio un toque je 7.5/10 Nightrain (4:26) no es muy mi estilo pero estuvo buena, maybe playlist 8/10 Out ta Get Me (4:20) me agrado bastante, maybe playlist 8.3/10 Mr. Brownstone (3:46) eee nose esta buena 8/10 Paradise City (6:46) me gusto m,e gusto 8.4/10 My Michelle (3:39) eeeeee 8/10 Think About You (3:50) me gusto playlist 8.5/10 Sweet Child o' Mine (5:55) god 8.8/10 You're Crazy (3:16) npc pero buena cancion 7.5/10 Anything Goes (3:25) ñe 7/10 no es mi estilo Rocket Queen (6:13) 6/10

Guns ‘n’ Roses. Guns ‘n’ fuckin’ Roses. G’ ‘n’ f’ ‘n’ R’ ….. This band frustrate the shit out of me. They are the dangerous band that it’s safe for normal people to like. They are the band that people who don’t listen to rock music think are a good rock band. They are the favourite band of people who like to bust loose and listen to Planet Rock instead of Radio 2 on the Friday night drive home. A band who has had a decades long career based on three great songs and two-and-half albums of filler. One of my friends who is not a rock fan watched their Glasto headline set from a few years ago and said they were “sporadically brilliant”. I guessed it was Paradise City, Sweet Child O’ Mine and Welcome to the Jungle where the brilliance lay, and he somewhat sheepishly admitted I was correct. Ok, the album - well, it has those three great tracks but the rest is just ok, no better or worse. It’s fine, but despite having owned a copy of this album for nearly forty years, I have listened to it a handful of times.
Yes these are some of the most overplayed songs of all time and they’re glorified cock rock, but they’re undeniably masterfully written and represent the logical culmination of 80s heavy metal. Still, I prefer Chinese Democracy. Fight me.
Now that's some *premium* boomer rock!! 🔥🔥 Even if my first reflex is to hate it, some songs have a secret sauce that I can't help but rock out to....... Standouts: My Michelle • Sweet Child O' Mine • Anything Goes
jak miałam 12 lat to dostałam od świętego Mikołaja dyskografię Guns'n'Roses, i "Appetite for destruction" było przez dłuższy czas moją ulubioną płytą... aż do czasu poznania nowej obsesji tamtych lat, tzn. Nirvany. Znienawidziłam G'n'R bo, jak przeczytałam w jednej z niezliczonych biografii Kurta, Axl go obrażał i zwyzywał.
Some classic rock tracks here but a couple stinkers here as well. Axl is a dweeb and some vocal effects applied are lame. 3
The hits are ok but the rest is so corny. Everything they do Judas Priest did so much better. 2.9/5
First tape I bought myself with my own money! I was 10 or 11. It was good then and it’s good now! Do you know where you are? In the jungle baby!
Some absolute bangers, some very much not
not a big fan of the lyricism, but i loved the 2 opening tracks, paradise city and sweet child o' mine
I like a couple songs off this album, but it is mostly not for me.
Have never listened to GNR album before but some of the songs are memoranle. Favourite tracks Welcome to the Jungle, Mr Brownstone and Sweet Child o Mine.
Zoals
Better than I expected but not my type I can listen to for so many songs back to back
Unironically good until Axl Rose’s “cat’s tail being stepped on” vocals kick in, every single time. Except when he wails, he’s rather good at that.
Overall, I thought Appetite for Destruction was okay. I can see the appeal, as Axl Rose's falsetto scream works pretty well in "Welcome to the Jungle" but is grating in everything else. Honestly, listening to this album in one sitting is simply not the way to do it: most of the tracks blend together into a shout-and-power-chord slurry. It turns out that I'm a certified Guns N' Roses normie. My favorite tracks were "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City," and "Sweet Child O' Mine," which are, by far, the most popular Guns N' Roses songs, with over morbillion plays combined. But maybe it's a "wisdom of the crowds" thing, or that I've heard those tracks are the ones I've heard most often and have come to appreciate due to familiarity. Though I did also like "Mr. Brownstone" and "My Michelle," which aren't exactly deep cuts or sleeper hits, but are still (arguably) not normie picks. It's a little wild that this was the band's debut album, given that some of its tracks are THE most popular ones in the entire discography (at least, that's what Spotify says).
Welcome to the Jungle is immediate 4/5 Most of the rest of the record is more on 2/5 Settling this with a very uneasy average.
Its arguably great but not for me. Mr brownstones good though
Not particularly my thing, but you can clearly hear they’ve put their heads together and worked hard on this. Reminds me of a mate’s dad who insisted on playing this in his car at every given opportunity.
Grumpy Aerosmith. Or America's Oasis. They serve up regurgitated mashed up comfortable and easily identified rehashes of obvious pre-80s reference points but undeniably have some big tunes. It's a shame this came out just as the CD era had hit full swing. If it had come out in the vinyl era they likely would have trimmed the fat and lost some of really ropey filler.
Groundbreaking album. some mediocre tracks.
Like most bands of their era, GnR are carried by their hits. Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for them, most of those are on this album.
overall not my style of vocal so I definitely wouldnt find myself listening to most of these songs again. however I can recognize that its very well done, they're extremely talented and made a very entertaining album
I like guns n roses. Sucks about the allegations though. I think famous people back then were allergic to being good people. Great music though. Always classics. Just hootin and hollerin. Welcome to the jungle indeed. Why is he whimpering. I honestly don't think he's actually in the jungle. Yeah I mean it's nice it's a good rock album pretty classic. Favourite: Sweet Child O' Mine Least favourite: My Michelle
As someone who grew up worshiping Nirvana, I had a natural dislike of Guns N' Roses. I hated Axl Rose and saw the band as a misogynistic cock rock band. Whilst I think 'Welcome To The Jungle', 'Paradise City' and 'Sweet Child Of Mine' are overplayed, I knew deep down they're good tracks and know they were better than a lot of the much you got on rock radio at the time. Most bands don't have hits that strong on their debut album! When I finally listened to the album, I discovered that 'Nighttrain', 'Mr. Brownstone' and 'My Michelle' were the real bangers. They have hooks with an edge to them. 'It's So Easy' sounds like an Alice In Chains song if they were around in the eighties. Axl and crew are so much more dangerous than the glam metal bands came before them. Not every song is a hit single though. 'Think About You' is rather generic outside of the colorful jangle riff that colours the chorus. I find myself dipping after we are done with 'Paradise City'. The last handful of songs feel like filler, but the first half is so good that I can forgive it.
++*: Welcome to the Jungle ++: Out ta Get Me, Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, You're Crazy, Anything Goes +: It's So Easy, My Michelle, Think About You, Rocket Queen +-: Sweet Child o' Mine -: Nightrain 7,6/10
The hits are bangers but the rest feels samey and, honestly, pretty immature. I thought this might blow my mind as an overlooked germ, but I think I paid it the right amount of attention at the time.
2,5
Enjoyed this one more than I expected.
Extra punt voor de hitjes
A couple of tracks had some early grunge vibes. The big songs were alright, have been overplayed and stick out on the album. All together it was pretty fun.
Never listened before. I knew it was a classic, but hard rock is usually not my thing. A pleasant surprise.
Sometimes it’s just nice to know what you’re getting here. Especially when what you’re getting is some good solid glam rock metal.
This was better than I expected! I’m not a fan of metal (in its various guises) but while these songs had some of the usual traits I dislike, including macho lyrics, screaming vocals and show-off guitar playing, I did appreciate the ‘attack’ or urgent feel of the songs and the rhythm guitar in particular. In places it almost sounded like punk rock.
I've never really listened to Guns N' Roses other than their hit songs so I was pleased to hear that they're good head banging heavy metal. It's not a genre I normally listen to a lot but it's good for an occasional dabble. Good solid guitars and drums with screaming vocals. The screaming vocals don't do much for me but again once in a while they're OK.
not as bad as I remembered (I got sick of hearing them in the early 90s), but I couldn't listen to sweet child again. Axl's vocals get a little grating after a while, but some of the tracks are reasonably well structured & interesting. An echo or two of the stones at times
cool
a bunch of legendary tracks, but looking back this feels like a theatrical stereotype of 80s glam pop rock metal-ish waiting. can't fault them for making music that stands the test of time though. 3.5/5
So many songs are what I think of when I hear Guns N' Roses
"Appetite For Destruction" is the soundtrack to the Gravitron ride at every small, hick-town county fair.
Bleh
The hits are great, the other tracks are fine
Boomers are gonna be mad that I don't give this 6/5
A classic that I grew up hearing on repeat. Not my thing personally but not bad by any means. This album would be more nostalgic if the songs weren't still being played into the ground. Favorite song: Sweet Child O' Mine
When Guns N' Roses crashed onto the Sunset Strip with Appetite for Destruction, they didn’t just revive sleazy hard rock—they weaponized it. The band’s 1987 debut is a snarling, streetwise blast of attitude and excess, fusing the bluesy swagger of Aerosmith with the ominous heft of Black Sabbath, then injecting it with a jolt of punk volatility. The result is a record that feels both indebted to its forebears and brazenly forward-looking, laying groundwork for the late-’80s and early-’90s hard rock explosion. “Welcome to the Jungle” kicks things off with coiled menace and explosive release, a high-energy opener that still sounds dangerous decades later. “Paradise City” stretches into a fist-pumping epic without losing its grit, while “Sweet Child O’ Mine” tempers the grime with one of the era’s most indelible riffs—less a power ballad than a radio-conquering anthem that proved the band could channel vulnerability without sacrificing edge. Appetite may not reinvent rock & roll, but it plays it with enough hunger and menace to remind you why it mattered in the first place.
you gotta admit SWEEET CHIIILD OF MIIIINE is sick lol, 3.5
This brings about vivid memories as a young boy. Putting my hockey gear into the 2001 Acura MDX that had been warming up in the driveway and listening to GnR, Motley Crue and Metallica while chowing down a sausage egg and cheese from Dunkin polished off by a red bull. The sausage egg and cheese from Dunkin, like many other fast food items in this country, has gone down hill. The egg used to be a scramble patty with peppers and onions and now it’s a weird almost fake egg over hard. The sausage is now bland as well they used to have a lovely blend of spices in the sausage. Anyway the album is fine..
A few classics, but some are honestly a bit overplayed. Still was a decent listen though
What did I know about this album/artist before I listened? I know these dudes were huge in the hard rock/heavy metal scene of the late ‘80s. I’ve heard the singles a bunch and know about their personalities. I’m presuming that, as a whole, it’s not going to stray very far from what I’ve heard so far - I assume that the singles are very good indicators of what the album sounds like as a whole. What are my first impressions? “Welcome to the Jungle” is a great opening track. That guitar delay gets your attention and forces you to tune in, and by the time you know it, the entire band is playing and I imagine this sets the tone for the album. It feels both gritty AND over the top. What genre(s) come to mind as I listen? Are there any specific artists that are evoked? Hard rock, absolutely. There are parts of this that don’t sound very far apart from glam metal (“Nighttrain”), which I feel like would be something GNR would be mad about being associated with (if they even had an opinion about that kind of thing). “Paradise City” is like basically just Aerosmith. I never noticed that before. I would have slotted them to be a little more “metal” overall, but these riffs are filled with blues-based boogie that you don’t generally hear in metal. “Think About You” screams 80s new wave in the chorus. Is the production appropriate for the sound/era? I like the production. It sounds a little dirtier than a lot of the metal that was on the radio at the time, but it also fits alongside it very well. The clean guitar that kept popping up in the second half of the album was nice. A clean guitar playing a lick over distorted rhythm guitar is a sound that always sticks out to me, and I wasn’t expecting in that “Think About You” chorus, but it mixed the sound up in a way when the album really needed it. None of these songs needed to be 6+ minutes, let alone three of them. What did the lyrics evoke? What did the singer sound like? Were the lyrics more simple or clever, direct or vague? Axl has more swagger in his voice than I think I gave him credit for. He sounds build for radio rock, but also has personality and attitude in his vocals. That swagger allows him to get away with some grace notes in a few songs that clearly clash with the chords, but aesthetically work. The lyrics seem pretty straightforward, ruminations from a derelict who thinks he’s on top of the world now that he’s moved to LA. Let it be known that these dudes always said what was on their mind, consequences be damned (let’s not talk about “One in a Million” from the following album). What is your favorite track/why? Least favorite/why? Most - “Nighttrain”, “Paradise City” Least - “My Michelle”, “Anything Goes” What sort of situation/vibe would you find yourself playing this album in? Playability factor? I’d probably listen to this again, but to be honest, I don’t know when. Maybe if I need something at work that’ll keep me moving. Final summary? I think this is the kind of album that I like and appreciate more than I would ever specifically listen to. I enjoyed jamming to these singles again, and some of the deep cuts were fun, but I don’t really see myself returning to this album very often, if at all. I wonder if hearing a good chunk of this album on the radio for decades makes the rest of it feel anticlimactic in a way? Like, there were few surprises coming into this. It does the job it’s supposed to do. I’m sure this was a game-changer back in ‘87, but it’s hard to hear that now.
Kind of a classic dad rock album (which I guess tells more about my age). Still has enough a sleazy sound to add some transgression; which the lyrics don't really help with. Still has three of the greatest classic rock songs of all time on it, so that helps to balance out. However, outside of SCoM, PC, and WttJ, its just too much of the same and the songs sort of blend together.
Their sound, and production, is tight as hell, and the whole band were dialled in for sure. But it does just feel a bit boring at times, I don’t know if that’s because the obvious suspects have been overplayed beyond belief by the “real rock radio!!” types maybe? It does just run out of steam very quickly I found on a re-listen. That said, I love Nightrain, that’s a real powerful, take no prisoners track for sure. Also Slash will always have a place in my heart, his sound and style fully got me into playing guitar, the man is a legend.
Historically Î understand this is the transition from hair metal to the harder alt rock scene of the 90s. At the same time, not my favorite. I do like Mr Brownstone tho.
Meh. I don’t love Guns n Roses. I don’t mind the ballads, but I like “nice” songs better. I like what’s his butts voice on those. The album is too ‘vulgar’ for me I guess? I sound like such an old prude.
It’s just not for me. I know GnR are massive and they have their lovers, and the album at the time was era defining … but personally I would say, it’s a lot of filler, chuff, and above all, copy and paste. It’s an undeservingly generous 3 out of 5 for me, based only on the hits, 1 single point for Welcome to the Jungle, another for Paradise City, and the final point for Sweet Child of mine … Naturally. Bang average.
3/5
Just yeah
you’re in the jungle BABAAAAYYYYY
This is so fun to listen to. Sweet Child O' Mine is a very sick riff. Also some filler that was kinda boring. And every song probably doesn't need to be 6 minutes long, but I guess Slash needs his solo time somewhere!
Bello, repetitivo pero me gustó
Basically GnR's greatest hits. Hard to judge because these songs have been on the radio all my life, so the songs seem dated and cliche, but I love how dirty their sound is compared to a lot of other stuff that came out at the time.
meio louco pensar q é um debut album
This album is massively carried by 3 outstanding songs and they are the 3 songs that everyone knows. The rest of the album is just slightly edgier, but ultimately generic 80s hair metal. There is no doubting of the ability on display here. Honestly those 3 songs are so good that it's a shame the rest of the album is (to me) so average. 3/5 stars, purely for those 3 songs, you know what they are, I don't need to say them.
I didn't listen to this as much as I would've liked. Based on the first song it would've been a great solid album, as it's a classic for a reason. The other songs served to fade into the background for me.
I think this album was alright. I've probably just heard Sweet Child O Mine and Welcome to the Jungle too much, but the album didn't really hit me with anything I loved.
I like them in spurts.
Good for gym
This was hit or miss for me but I’ve got more respect for Sweet Child O’ Mine and liked Think About You
3.4 good album but thats easy to do when you make basically the same song 12 times over. faves: rocket queen, welcome to the jungle
Very, very low three star. I think of this as less an album and more a vessel for the singles by GnR that everyone knows. A few extra points for breaking into the mainstreams and creating timeless classics.
annoying voice good songs
This was an interesting listen; I think I had only heard a little over half of it before but the half that I had heard as been burned into my brain. I've never been a huge fan of GNR but you have to respect how fully-formed of a debut this is. I can't imagine how this crazy would have sounded back in 1987.
Vg
It’s wild that this was their debut album with this many hits. Is it my jam? No. Will I ever listen to it again? Also no. Good for them though.
Def some iconic songs on here
Never cared much for GnR, and while I recognize the “importance” of this album, it’s still not for me.
Haven’t listened to this album since years ago in college when I was exploring different genres of rock music. This is filled with well known songs that are all huge classic rock hits. Overall, that 80s heavy metal/hard rock isn’t my favorite but plenty of it is catchy. This seems better than a lot of other 80s rock. Some of still rocks and holds up. Kinda album where I love some of the songs, but then don’t like the deeper cuts. It all really rocks out and is really fun at times, but wish it was shorter. By the time You’re Crazy rolls around you feel like this should be the closer. It’s probably a solid 3, maybe can push to a 3.5/4, not sure. Just not my kind of rock really anymore.
A couple classics, but the others don't really do anything for me.
That’s a lot of hits on the debut, and maybe it’s the radios fault but I can’t stand any of these songs.
Idk how to do this. But if I'm personally rating this album, its 7/10. Other songs are just not in my type of music..?? but some songs are really like.. the vibe.
Good, great even but a victim of its own success that it gets ovrplayed to the degree that I’ve heard nearly all of an album I’ve never sat down to listen to.
If I could give the just Slash 5 stars I would cause that guy is fucking killing it. Even on the songs I wanted to skip Slash is over there just blowing it out of the water. Axl Rose's voice is too much like Geddy Lee of Rush and both make me want to pull my hair out. My friends older sister had their posters on her wall but she was in her prime when this came out. I've always found Axl kinda gross so it goes down to a 3 for me. 5 for Slash, Axl gets a 2 and the rest of the band holds it down so a firm 3.
I mean it’s fine
There were some really great songs on this album! But so many sound very similar so they didn’t always stick out to me. I enjoyed Mr. Brownstone as well as Think About You and Sweet Child O’ Mine the most!
Review - The big singles are pretty good but the rest of ihe album is a bit filler-y. I didn't know Axl Rose sings in a deeper voice sometimes, interesting that all the singles are his Bon Scott but falsetto-y style. Rating - 5.5/10 Need to hear? YES
It is impressive that this is the debut album of GNR, including songs like Welcome to the Jungle or Sweet Child of Mine. It is hard to go wrong with a nice guitar rift and Axl's unmistakable voice. However sometime you can do too much (Paradise City) or too little (most of the album is filler, forgettable songs). Adding all that and you have an ok album, but not much more than that.
This is the cd I used to listen to to amp myself up before math club competitions
3.42
This album is too rock for me and it lacks a few melodious tracks to get a 4th star
Funny, I played this album to my daughter about a week ago, and it was the first time I’d listened to it in almost thirty years. Back then, Guns N’ Roses clearly ruled the glam rock / metal scene. The intro to Appetite for Destruction is legendary, and some songs like It’s So Easy still hit hard. The downside are most of the other songs, … well, overall it’s clearly not my kind of music. Still, as a genre peak, this album does the job, and with at least three massive hits, it leaves some pretty solid memories. But I don’t like Axl Rose’s voice and the many cheesy riffs though…
Pop metal with an actual edge to it. All the instrumentalists can play well, and the vocalist has a very unique voice, for better and for worse. The hits are the hits for a reason, and all the other songs don’t hit nearly the same highs.
Actually a very sweet album. While the band name is akin to a 1999 AOL username (“choose something you like”, see mine: poniesdogs because horsespuppies was already taken). I enjoyed how it felt from the heart in certain songs.
(69/100)
Wow, I forget what a big deal it was when they came on... They really had a distinct sound that hit big. I forget how beautiful a song Sweet child of mine is.
Another album I don't think I would have experienced without this project... I can recognize this is good, don't have particular strong feelings about this album, myself, though.... Finding myself really appreciating drums and the instrumentals 🥁 Paradise City was fun
some fun guitar solos, some lyrics r just so goofy standouts: nightrain mr. brownstone sweet child o mine liking this more than i thought i would, but probably wouldn’t put it on — kinda blended together at a point
