Reviews (page 11 of 14)
4.5/5 - Great album. Got To Get You Into My Life was a personal highlight that I hadn't heard before.
It’s not their greatest album but I do love it. There’s a few songs that can be dismissed as filler, but Eleanor Rigby is top notch, and Yellow Submarine has helped to shut my small kids up in the car on so many occasions that I will be eternally grateful. And Tomorrow Never Knows basically kicked off edm/ big beats and The Chemical Bros as far as I’m concerned.
4.5
A little dusty here and there today, this classic Beatles album is still very listenable, especially because of its experimental flavour. I actually didn't know some of the songs, but I've never been a big Beatles fan. All in all, a good work,
It’s obvious that the Beatles are stretching their talents on this album, and it sometimes results in a disjointed feeling- like this could be an album of singles. It’s still great, though, and For No One is a hidden gem and possibly my favorite song of theirs of all time.
A little gnangnan
4.5 not quite a 5
Since 1977 I love to hear Eleanor Rigby, because we discussed this song in a music-lesson at school. The Teacher was Frau Seemann.
For No One is a McCartney masterwork
Great album with some great songs
It is a good one but i liked rubber soul even more
Estilo único y personal de una de las mejores bandas. Canciones muy reconocidas y que han sabido perdurar en el tiempo. Sencillez y elegancia.
Amazing album. Now I'm starting to get why 60's were The Beatles' times. It's their first album on the list for me and I hope not the last. 4.5/5.
One of their better albums, with hints of their earlier pop phase but leaning more heavily toward their psych-rock sound.
I love this album! It's like the perfect segue towards their more experimental albums. Their new approach for songwriting works well, and the songs are great! 8,5 out of 10
I love coming back to the Beatles music. This band is just amazing. These songs are timeless. And the lesser known songs are just as good as the more popular songs. Yellow Submarine is just odd, so it stands out... And by that, it's popular. But it probably the weaker of the songs on the record. It amazes me that each Beatle can play multiple instruments. And they're good at them all. A lot of talent went into this record, and every other record. I didn't know that this was the last Beatles record before they retired as live performers. I can't get sick of the Beatles. It's crazy that I know people who dislike this band. I honestly haven't heard a valid point either. To be a contrarian....
Awesome
Bunch of classics
This is the good stuff.
I think this is the first time I have ever listened to a Beatles album straight through. I really enjoyed most of it. "Eleanor Rigby" has always been one of my favorites and I loved the sitar weirdness of "Love You To". The back half of the album didn't really capture me though. Still all and all a very nice listen.
Almost my fav Beatles album! This was great to listen to and it made me realise how long its been since I popped a whole Beatles album on! Loved it!! I imagine most of their discography will be in this project.
Jevnt over bra, har heldigvis ikkje så mange irriterande sanga (bortsett fra yellow submarine)
La verdad es que casi todas las canciones son buenas.
Where tf did Tomorrow Never Knows some from?
This had some real gems. Yellow Submarine reminded me of Beatles year at my dance studio, it feels like I've heard that song hundreds of times even though I doubt it. I might listen again but cut out Y.S or skip it.
very familiar with this one. Taxman to Eleanor Rigby is a weird 1 2. Both songs are great, but do they hand off one to the other? no way. This album is so sonically lumpy. The Beatles show their expiramental chops on this record but doesn't feel like it comes together.
beatles
as hyped as The Beatles are, this was actually better than I was expecting. They are a little too joyous and whimsical for me, but I can't deny that it's an album full of hits. favourite track : 'Here, There and Everywhere'
I haven't listened to much of the Beatles. Despite being familiar with their hits, diving into this album was a new journey for me. 'Revolver', with its unique and distinct sounds, truly stands out as a product of its time, and it's hard to believe it came from the 60s. This album showcases The Beatles not just as musicians but as true innovators in the music world. While I admire the album's originality and the way it broke new ground in the music industry, I find it's not an album I see myself returning to regularly. There are definitely a few tracks that struck a chord with me, and I will be adding them to my regular playlist. Overall, I'd rate 'Revolver' a solid 4 out of 5 (4.5 if I could do half stars). It's a brilliant piece of music history, but for my personal taste, it doesn't quite hit the mark for constant replay. It's a must-listen for understanding the evolution of music.
Obviously great. Got To Get You Into My Life rules.
It's the Beatles. It is what it is.
Classic beatles, some wonderful songs interspersed with nonsense
Almost certainly a 5/5 in 1966, but not sure it still quite is now. Definitely have to respect the range of musical styles (some of which didn't really exist before this album), but it does clash a bit and there's some stuff on there that doesn't really hold up (yes, Doctor Robert, I'm talking to you!). But the end of the album is magic, the way it builds from I Want To Tell You through Got To Get You Into My Life and then the almost psychedelic dance track to end it off, it's amazing even now let alone nearly SIXTY years ago. Ben's totally right, if you replace the vocalist with a less recognisable voice you'd put this as a mid-90s track rather than a mid-60s one. Almost talked myself into a 5 there, but not quite. 4/5.
Great album. Absolutely great. Over the years, though, I have listened to other albums that deserve 🐐 status and, for as good as this is, it doesn’t give me the same level of warm and fuzzies as the others. Considering this relativity, Revolver gets a four.
This is timed well as Now and Then was released this week. Classic Beatles sound.
Trippy and gangster shit that I cannot believe was made in the 1960's.
I quite enjoyed this. The Beatles are actually pretty good or something. My favorite sing I think was Eleanor Rigby. Definitely an interesting album
Stilbildande. Mycket mer progressivt än jag hade trott
The fab four at their height, a class album of original music. Least liked track was Love You Too, but that's just because of the sitar, I've never heard any music with a sitar that I'd say, that's good.
Classic.
Peak Beatles, for me. Post bubblegum and pre wacko.
Interesting and moving
Never having dived deeply into the Beatles, there were some songs here that I have never heard. I don't know how often I would chose to listen again, but it's a great album. Tomorrow never knows is a song I will revisit. The production is so ahead of its time.
Ok, fine. I get it.
4/5 Great album. Short and sweet. Some all time classics and some interesting experimental tracks. Too much sitar though
Promising young band. Enjoyed this album. Interested to hear if they made anything else.
I think this might be my favorite Beatles album. It's when you really start to hear the drugs come out in their songwriting and it makes the album somewhat of a journey. It's also a point where they seem to round into form with Paul providing poppy hits, John providing a psychedelic slant, and George bringing some wildcard elements that help expand their songs into different genres. Not totally consistent throughout, though, so it's only a 4/5 for me. Personal Favorites: Eleanor Rigby, Love You To, She Said She Said, For No One
I love this album. "Love you to" is such a cool, interesting song to me. Taxman always has a special place in my heart b.c my Econ teacher sang it in a class one time. Its just a sneaky good Beatles album
My favourite Beatles album. Frequently on the record player. Love the psychedelic yet accessible tunes.
Pretty good the beatles live up to their name
Struggled to find the version Inwanted to listen to. 4 stars only because I need to leave room for Sgt Pepper.
This is good and I like it
The Beatles just have that formula, I don't know another way to describe it. This is my first Beatles album for this project, and as a newbie to their music, I can already see why they're maybe the most popular band to ever play. It's not all my cup of tea, but there is definitely a lot here that appeals to me.
Classic.
I always forget what’s on each Beatles album and then I go “well this time I’ll get to hear deep cuts I’ve never heard!” And then I don’t cause I played Beatles RockBand. Anyway, very good. Of course.
This album was released amidst the smoke of a holy war. Lennon famously said in an interview that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.” This caused outrage in America, inciting public bonfires sponsored by radio stations. They burned and destroyed Beatles’ albums, and the music was banned from the airwaves in the South. What Lennon meant, of course, was that rock music was replacing God. It was merely an observation that Christianity was losing its influence. And of course so many people hung onto every word Lennon uttered. He was the voice of his generation, a spokesman for his restive peers. He talked openly about drugs and the Vietnam War. He sparked rock journalism: everyone wrote about his Jesus comment. People started listening to the opinions of rock stars, and there was born a quality and truth in rock ‘n roll reporting. This album marked the end of touring for The Beatles. Anti-Beatles’ sentiment was widespread—in Japan, the Philippines, and in America. Besides, touring annoyed the erstwhile Fab Four. They didn’t enjoy touring at all in 1966. There were simply too many distractions, and their songs weren’t suitable to be played live. “Rain” and “Paperback Writer” just didn’t sound good in concert. The Beatles were more than happy to stop touring. In profound relief, Harrison is quoted as saying, “I can stop pretending to be a Beatle.” He and his bandmates could leave behind the limitations of touring—PA systems not being powerful enough for stadium concerts and difficulties in hearing the music over the screaming crowds caused the band’s technical skill to deteriorate. The studio process continued from the experimentation we hear on Rubber Soul, but there are marked differences. The difference between 1965 and 1966 is the difference between the early 60s and the late 60s. Though that looks like an obvious and banal observation, it says a lot as far as The Beatles are concerned, for it is the difference between being live performers and being a studio collective band. The Beatles stopped worrying about appropriate concert music and started considering imaginative sonic and musical ranges. The technology was in the studio, not on the stage. The beauty of “Taxman”, for example, is that it sounds like it could be live, but in fact there’s no way they could have done it justice in front of a crowd at that time. “I’m Only Sleeping” evokes a dreamlike mood with a dual-guitar solo played backwards. “She Said She Said” (a surreal tune about Lennon’s first LSD trip), “For No One” (wherein the clavichord and French horn are dominant), and “Love You To” (sitar as main instrument) were hardly concert-appropriate songs. And how the hell would they ever have been able to play “Tomorrow Never Knows” live? This masterpiece displays a world of new capabilities. It’s our first look into Lennon’s intoxicating, terrifyingly wonderful mind. A one-chord drone throughout the song is outside pop rock sensibilities, and the use of tape-loops and vocal processing technology place the piece firmly in the annals of psychedelia.
Cat: one of my faves from the Beatles
Classic Beatles.
The highs are high, and the lows are LOW
So many great songs, especially "Eleanor Rigby".
Good
I'm not going to say anything intelligent about the Beatles that hasn't been said before - but there are more ideas on a single album, here on Revolver, than some of their peers experienced in their careers. It doesn't all work. Some of it sounds a bit dated. That's the price you pay for being innovative. Still, for every moment of silliness, there's something beautiful. Revolver didn't blow my socks off, but it was a very pleasant experience in all.
Some of my favorite deeper cuts, if there is such a thing with this band, are on this record. “I’m Only Sleeping” and “For No One” would be the best two songs ever by most bands on this list. Here they are relegated to being strong complimentary pieces. And that’s kind of how I feel about the album as a whole. It’s not my favorite Beatles record, but good lord does it compliment the overall story of this band exceptionally well.
Sets the standard for most modern music. Some great tracks here, well composed and lyrically great. Enjoyed this album alot, classic Beatles in every way.
Overall a great album, I can't believe I never listened to it the whole way through. I've heard all the songs in various anthologies but there's something special about listening to the album as originally intended. Here are some notes by track: 1. Tax Man - One of my all time favorites, always listen to it when doing my taxes 2. Eleanor Rigby - Brings back memories of a 45 on my Fisher Price record player when I was 6 years old 3. I'm only sleeping - Lazy/Crazy, what a great rhyme 4. Love you to - Not my favorite, could do without it 5. Here, there and everywhere - Not bad, decidedly 60's 6. Yellow Submarine - See #2, it was the flip side 7. She said, she said - Not bad 8. Good day sunshine - It makes me smile 9. And your bird can sing - I like it 10. For no one - This is a great song about broken heart denial 11. Dr Robert - I zoned out for this one 12. I want to tell you - Thumbs up 13. Got to get you into my life - Love it! 14. Tomorrow never knows - Trippy
I enjoyed this album more than some other times I’ve tried to get into the Beatles in the past, when I’ve wanted to like their music more but just found I couldn’t get into more than a handful of songs. There was a lot I liked in this, even if some of the songs were forgettable. “Tomorrow Never Knows” is one I tagged for more future listens.
Amazing Beatles favourite track I'm only sleeping or here there and everywhere but she said she said she said for no one good day sunshine and of course tomorrow never knows all amazing tracks as well
Probably the best Beatles album.
Another Beatles album, another >= 4/5
fuckin cockroaches
Taxman is a banger, but it really makes boomers make sense. Classic album, but I’m getting a little tired of the Beatles and their associates rn 1001albums
Great album but the beetle have done better
I don’t think I have ever listened to a whole Beatles record. I am pretty sure I have most only listened to compilations. This is a really great record. Many of the songs I have been hearing my whole life yet it still sounds fresh.
🌊
Side one is a five star, no question. Side two just isn't quite to the same standard.
Good album, solid tracks, Beatles are a great band, what do you want from me? I don't know if they deserve all the hype but there are good and fun tracks here, some of which I've been listening to for decades. Favorites: Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Taxman, Here There and Everywhere
4/5 This had some great songs on it. We still haven't come across my favourite album yet though. I really loved the Indian influence on them. I just really like Indian music. It was a solid album.
Yeah okay, I kinda like the Beatles, what of it? Jokes aside, good album, punchy and kept me engaged.
After including some psychedelic influence on their last album, the Beatles seem content to embrace it a bit more with Revolver. That being said, the album is content to starts strong with the upbeat freakbeat Taxman, followed closely by the incredibly Elanor Rigby. A pure Baroque pop masterpiece that almost certainly has not been topped since. I think, more than anything, Revolver showcases the willingness of the Beatles' experimentation. Trying new sounds, varying songwriting, not being afraid to get silly. Revolver contains some of the Beatles best songs and it represents a huge turning point for the band. I know some people will prefer other Beatles but Revolver is an easy standout.
1. Taxman var en skön låt 2. Eleanor Rigby fantastisk låt 3. Im only sleeping är bra 4. Love to you ingen favorit 5. Here, there and everywhere mysig låt 6. Yellow submarine bättre än förväntat. Lite meme låt 7. She said she said. Helt ok 8. Good day sunshine. Refrängen sämre än resten av låten 9. And your birds can sing. Skön låt 10. For no one. Riktigt bra 11. Doctor Robert början var dålig blev lite bättre 12. I want to tell you. Ingen favvo 13. Got to get you into my life helt ok slutet var riktigt bra 14. Tomorrow never knows weird låt skum men skön
Lot of good songs on this album. Eleanor Rigby is still one of my favorites. Varied sounds and styles. Solid 4.
A LOT of classics on this one, from Eleanor Rigby to Yellow Submarine and a few more.
Another album that's vastly superior in mono. I definitely prefer Rubber Soul, but... it's mid-career Beatles, you gotta love it. They swung wide and hit just about everything out of the park. The songs are short, so you hear a lot of different ideas in 35 minutes. It also means I only have to listen to George Harrison's sitar for 3 minutes-- I never liked his take on Indian music, and it's only gotten worse with time. Everything else is solid as a rock here, though.
A landmark album for The Beatles, and an absolute pleasure to listen to throughout, with only a couple of songs not quite hitting the highs the others reach (e.g. 'Love You To' or 'She Said She Said'). Also I don't care what anyone else says, Yellow Submarine is a banger. Recommended listens: Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Good Day Sunshine, Got To Get You Into My Life
This marks the beginning of the Beatles experimental phase, both in terms of recording technology and world instruments (sitar, anyone?). The album contains classics like Tomorrow Never Knows, Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby, but some of the songs had not reached that iconic quality of later albums yet. This was a good first try at something different; The Beatles' next album, Sgt. Pepper, would blow the lid off completely. 4/5
we were in a hippie cult for 34 min and 45 seconds
genieten
Just guys being dudes. In my opinion this album is better put together than the White Album but doesn’t have the same height of individual tracks. I will also note at this juncture that I don’t care for Yellow Submarine.
Classic Beatles album, but not my favorite in their catalog. The album starts strong with jumpy 60s rock number "Taxman." Great lyrics, harmonizing, and fretwork. This turns 180 degrees into equally great for all the opposite reasons "Eleanor Rigby." This is IMO one of the prettiest pieces the Beatles ever wrote. That said, I feel like it has weird placement on the album, though I'm not sure it would fit anywhere any better. Love You To is an Indian-infused jam complete with sitar; I'm really into this one. The middle of the album is kind of weak to me. I know Yellow Submarine is a mega-hit, and I get why, but I've never been huge on it. The surrounding songs sound like generic Beatles songs -- which is to say, they are good songs, but fairly forgettable. The only memorable points to be on the back-half are For No One, Doctor Robert, and Tomorrow Never Knows. 4 / 5 (but honestly more of a 3 / 5 by Beatles standards)
This is one of the two albums (the other being Rubber Soul) that I think of as “transition” albums, that took the Beatles from the “Eight Days a Week” sixties boy band to the psychedelic, experimental, studio-only “I am the Walrus” band. Elenore Rigby is a standout and would have turned a lot of heads in ’66. In general, I’d say that the McCartney contributions are above-average and Lennon is not at his best. The wiki entry says that many critics are now ranking this LP as their “greatest” but I don’t think the song-writing is as strong as the last 2 we have received. I can’t give everything a 5!
We just got Abbey Road a few days ago so this is an interesting contrast. Both are very good albums, but both are also just a step below Sergeant Pepper in terms of cohesiveness. Side one is fabulous, but it fades a bit on Side 2, until the last song Tomorrow never knows which is one of their very best. Sergeant Pepper got a 5 from me but like Abbey Road, this is just a notch below so it also gets a four.
Very familiar.
It should feel weird that I’m going to rank an Aerosmith album above a Beatles album, especially one of the “good ones”, but I could always do without one or two songs here. Still, the band was really finding their own here, and everyone offered some of their best work. Even Ringo does fine with “Yellow Submarine”. B+
Lots of catchy tunes but not my favorite Beatles album. Songs follow quite childlike lyrics and melodies, which works though would like abit more variety
owowowowo
Not my favorite album by the beatles.
Taxman had a funny line, really strange opener Eleanor Rigby was really interesting, really interesting concept about lonely people's mark on the world, some great lyrics (will be listening to this song) I'm Only Sleeping is a bop, the drums are great, the song structure is varied and the production is really interesting with these whiney horns that are fading in and out, harmonies are great Love You To has this really amazing Egyptian/Indian vibe with its instrumental, never heard that before Here, There and Everywhere is sweet, vocals are beautiful, really laid back track Yellow Submarine's sound effects are some of the most interesting things I've ever heard on a song, and the screaming call and response bits are hilarious (will be listening to this song) She Said She Said was great, drum fills were cool Good Day Sunshine has an amazing upbeat tone with a strangely dark piano line, little piano solo in the middle there is cute, love these vocals (will be listening to this song) And Your Bird Can Sing: Goddamn that was a great opening, this upbeat vibe is amazing, end of the line guitar is awesome, guitar arpeggio reminds me of Undertale a bit (will be listening to this song) For No One: wasn't liking it at the start, but love the intriguing bass being aligned with the words at certain hits, interesting choice to have a trumpet in there Doctor Robert: This one is groovy, cool harmonies, guitar solo for two seconds was a great little choice (will be listening to this song) I Want To Tell You: Really strange tempo-bending opening, has a slightly tense vibe at certain points because of a piano which is a cool choice which doesn't fit with the groove (in a good way), like some of these harmonies Got To Get You Into My Life: Very jazzy and bold with the horns, goddamn vocals at the end, distorted wonderfully Tomorrow Never Knows: A lot is going on in this song, wow it is a clusterfuck, love those muted warpy guitars from before making a comeback, ooh the vocal effects are great, strange sudden fade out ending
Mieszanka wedlowska w wykonaniu The Beatles. Trochę pop, Trochę rock, a do tego dawka psychodeli i piosenka kiboli. Highlights: Eleanor Rigby
It's amazing that I somehow only know a couple of songs from this. You'd think I would have heard it back in the day in full many times, but there's some genuinely new songs to me here. Its the Beatles, and this is where they started getting really experimental as they stopped touring. You can immediately hear why they are as revered as they are.
not as good as the ones that follow but still a little better than I expected Elenor Rigby is THE song from this one but For no One is also cool
This seems to have become the "cool" Beatles album for the moment. I also admire the innovation and the songs are good, but without knowing the context, you can tell they're still trying to perfect this newfound sound. So I'm gonna say 4 to 4½.
Not my favorite of theirs but there are some of my favorite songs on the album. 4.5 stars
Eleanor Rigby scares me to death and I think I need therapy
То бітли, але просто вони не мій варіант
Classic historical normie music
First Beatles album we’ve gotten on this list, surprised it took so long. Very short album which is a plus for me, but time variation and some classics. For No One was my standout
Crazy modern for an album from '66
I'd like to provide some really quality insight as to why this album is good and why it is crafted well. I really would. But I can't because the album is not particularly well crafted. It's a mashup of a bunch of songs with strong individual identities. But those individual identities are very, very strong. I mean when we really consider it, you can argue that 9 of these songs could be lead singles on albums for other artists. Will I dock it a star for lack of cohesiveness? Yes, but I fully see why this is considered the greatest Beatles album of all time by many people.
A- Taxman - 3. Never liked this intro. Eleanor Rigby - 5. One of the greatest standalone tracks of all time. I’m Only Sleeping - 5. Headline: Local High Schooler Feels. Love You To - 3. I never liked George with the sitar. Here, There and Everywhere - 5. Yellow Submarine - 5. Always loved the ad-libs. She Said She Said - 3. At least Ringo gets to show off here. Good Day Sunshine - 4. And Your Bird Can Sing - 3. For No One - 5. My favorite Revolver track. Doctor Robert - 3. I Want to Tell You - 4. Got to Get You Into My Life - 5. Tomorrow Never Knows - 3.
Great to hear again, good album
Beautiful album! Worth a vinyl purchase. 4/5
I liked The Beatles more as they moved away from their early 60s pop rock stuff and more toward their weird psychadelic experimental stuff, peaking right around Sgt. Pepper. This album's somewhat toward the beginning of that transition, still pretty accessible with some nice surprises here and there.
Best and only Beatles album i've listened to more than once
Fucking "Yellow Submarine" can fuck right off piss-stained submersible twat.
Its the beatles
What a bop.
I really love how much George Harrison hates taxes. I really hate how much he loves sitar. Taxman fucking SLAPS, Eleanor Rigby fucking SLAPS, She Said She Said fucking SLAPS, For No One fucking SLAPS, Tomorrow Never Knows is one of the greatest compositions of the 1960's. And it's not even the best Beatles album.
My best friend & I used to listen to all the Beatles albums we could lay our hands on and this was one of them. Very contemporary sound for an album made in 1966 and that was the "power"of the Beatles who paved the way for so many artists. Some real classics so 4*
Love this album. Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, and Yellow Submarine remind me of when I was really young and first started listening to music. Had burned CD mixes from limewire songs. So many classics to be listened to again in the future
I need to listen to the Beatles more.
Couple of classics that I didn't know were on the same album which was cool to hear This is definitely an album to listen to through headphones because in most of the songs the audio is set differently in your left and right ears which is very cool Very enjoyable album
I should probably stop being a Beatles hater, but a strong 4 for me for now. Some classics but also some weirder stuff I wasn't as into.
A pretty solid album. Normally the Beatles aren't really my thing, but I did like this.
Definitely the trickiest album i've rated thus far. I'm not a Beatles expert so I cant plot this album on the scale of psychedelia they had. I think the whole album was very good, it seemed very experimental too. Out of the songs I hadn't heard before, Got To Get You Into My Life was definitely the best one. I think real rating 4.5/5
Here, There and Everywhere is without doubt the best song I've been introduced to as a result of listening to these albums. I stopped everything I was doing just to listen and read the lyrics. What I found with this was that the songs I liked were all INCREDIBLE, easy 5/5s without thinking about it. But the songs I wasn't keen on, I felt indifferent about at best and actively disliked at worst. Comparing this to the albums I've rated 5 stars so far, I don't think this quite makes the grade (but it's probably 4-4.5)
my music teacher in elementary school played this album for us in some of his games but never told us who the artist was or the album, so in short im having vietnam-esque ear flashbacks right now :/ (fav songs: taxman, elanor rigby, yellow submarine, good day sunshine, got to get you into my life)
This album is of course a total classic. Every song on it is a well known and beloved Beatles song. I know the whole album by heart word for word and I have had this on vinyl from my earliest days. What else can I say? Here, There, and Everywhere is a particularly poignant love song that I still resonate with and still think is one of the best written love songs. Harmonies are top.
High quality, innovative stuff right there. It’s not surprising to read that they spent 220+ hours recording these songs. It’s too bad Paperback Writer, which was recorded during these sessions, was not included. It would have strengthened the album. Lennon said he considered Revolver a continuation of Rubber Soul. Volume 1 and volume 2 in his mind. I agree.
Very good
Great listen, a handful of forgettable songs stops it from being a 5
Not my favorite Beatles album but fuck, you just have to tip your hat.
One of my most listened to albums thanks to a handful of Beatles albums being loaded onto my first iPod by my friend’s brother back in the day. An excellent album but as Bill Hader said I could do without the Balinese stuff 4.5/5
A few great tunes but nowhere near their best effort
Listens: 4 Enjoyed: yeah Feels really experimental and a great prelude for what we know followed. So excellent tracks here
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Eleanor rigby, I’m only sleeping, Yellow submarine, She said she said, And your bird can sing
I mean....it's The Beatles! Some great classic tracks on here. I loved hearing the beginnings of their musical shift into more experimental areas like with Love To You. Love the sitar.
I listened to the original recording followed by the 2022 Mix for each of these songs. Thank heavens the 2022 Mix exists. While I do enjoy the shuffling of various percussive elements into one ear and the other ear, I think this modern mix is the way to go if you're listening on headphones. It hits so much harder and feels so much fuller. I've spent a bunch of time pulling apart each song and track in some of the reviews before this so I chose to just enjoy this album for what it is this time and not sit there noting down every key-change, harmony, drum hit, etc. Great album.
Mainly for that one song
Great Beatles album
Good album, Best songs: Eleanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere, Yellow Submarine, Good Day Sunshine, Got to get you into my life. Last song was weird but overall it was a vibe.
Good album, obviously. Some weird songs her and there though.
Got to love me some Beatles. Eleanor Rigby, Here, There and Everywhere, Taxman and Good Day Sunshine my standouts. Scouse x
A nice collection of good songs, though some of them are a bit too fluffy and/or silly for my taste.
All good, and some really excellent tracks.
Finally a Beatles album! I definitely enjoyed it for the most part, but a few are mixed really strange on the remaster or don't really do much for me. I plan to come back to it to let it grow on me though. 7/10
Good one
Listened Before? N Classic Beatles. It is definitely a great album and there’s several absolute bangers on here. I agree with most other reviewers that I’ve read that the real thing about this album is all the members showing their personalities and styles. Cool album and cool piece of music history. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Elanor Rigby

4 stars.
Favourite song- Eleanor Rigby (it’s a classic Least favourite song-Taxman (didn’t really like the repeat of the word) Album out of 10- A solid 6-7 Listen to it again?- Probably if i was chilling
I'm always kind of cautious whenever I listen to the Beatles. I had listened to this album before, but I hadn't paid special attention to it. I'm starting to appreciate Eleanor Rigby more, especially because of the strings. Here, There, and Everywhere makes me feel sort of nostalgic for past friendships. Yellow Submarine reminds me of my childhood, because my mom would always play that song for me. I love the guitar riff on And Your Bird Can Sing. This is definitely one of their best albums. Fave track(s): Taxman, I'm Only Sleeping
Good album. Of course we heard that a lot.
A solid Beatles album, I appreciate their experimentation with sound and how cohesive the tracks felt. My personal top 5 favorite tracks (in no particular order): Eleanor Rigby, Love You To, Taxman, For No One, and Doctor Robert.
One of the best. Practically every track is a number one hit.
I didn’t actually just listen to this, but 50+ years of Beatles and knowing many of these songs by heart made me feel like I could give it a pass. Easy 4, probably a 5, but not today.
ya know, it's the beatles.
4/5
Some great songs on this album, also some mids/duds. Also lots of noisey bits, builds and atmosphere of discordance which is cool but not pleasant to listen to.
I'm not sure why people dislike albums by the Beatles after Revolver. This is the first time they experiment with their sound and push it that way. I think the albums that come later go more into those depths. This is solid, but definitely not their best work. Finally, it's obvious they loved the invention of stereo audio. Best Songs: Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, I'm Only Sleeping, And Your Bird Can Sing Worst Songs: Doctor Robert, I Want To Tell You
They ripped off frank in this one
Ei oo mun suosikki Beatles-levy, mut silti ihan hyvä. Muutama filleri tai vähän liian sekava biisi mun makuun, mut löytyy myös muutama tosi hyvä. Toimii mun mielestä tietynlaisena vedenjakajana ”vanhan” ja ”uuden” beatlesin välissä. Paras biisi: Eleanor Rigby Huonoin biisi: Love you to
It's fun to trace a path from Rubber Soul to Sgt. Pepper's. There's still a twee-ness about certain aspects of this record, but the experimental side (be it the psychedelic aspects, or Harrison's flirtation with Asian/Indian music) is really just something to behold. The straightforward tracks are still good, the experimental ones are just super fun. Favorite tracks: "Taxman", "I'm Only Sleeping", "And Your Bird Can Sing", "Tomorrow Never Knows"
I think this is an album that has a higher overall score due to a handful of excellent songs. Eleanor Rigby could be the basis for a 400-level college class. She Said, Good Day Sunshine, and Got to Get You are also fantastic tracks.
It's almost 10% of the challenge and this is just the first The Beatles album. When I started listening to records from this list, I somehow thought The Beatles will be on every other day. I don't think that I am a fan of this band - I do reckon that they are a bit overrated. Certainly a product of their era, that felt new and original many years later, but contrary to some opinions, it's not a universal music. At this point they should be treated as a real trailblazers and innovators, that changed the musical landscape and defined the "superstar" status. We should learn about the band in history books, but I doubt anyone should listen to actual songs or albums - at this point it's just an interesting triva. Well, maybe that's taking it a little too far, but the overall sentiment is there. Meanwhile, the first album by The Beatles on this list is "Revolver". It's a collection of short songs totalling to around 35 minutes, written by all four members of the band. All the tracks are really different from one another. We can hear few songs, that could easily be associated with the early "boysband" days of the group, generic songs with a happy riffs and a unassuming drums, with soft voice of George, Paul and John. At the same time, we have few other songs, which cut deeper than that, like for example "Taxman" written by Harrison - a real psychedelic piece, with a very interesting guitar solo, adding a value to the level of the album. We also have the ever famous "Yellow Submarine", which actually is a really bright spot on "Revolver", and well-known "Eleanor Rigby", which is not as interesting, or original as I imagined. Another interesting song is "Tomorrow Never Knows", a composition written by Lennon, which is also heavily influenced by psychedelic rock genre. Overall, this might be a first time where I feel like I'm "supposed" to give a good rating to the album, just because it is very well known and universally liked. I would rate it at 3,5 stars, but to give it a little more benefit (as a historical context), it will be a round four. Let's see how other Beatles albums compare to this one.
A key album in The Beatles transition from a live act to a studio band. Lots of experimental sounds with the earlier pop song style. Great album.
Finally, after umpteen Beastie Boys and Talking Heads, my first Beatles! Familiarity bias. Even Yellow Submarine.
There's nothing much to say, it's a classic. I remember I had my first cigarette to this album.
I actually enjoyed listening to this album. Wouldn’t spend money on it but did enjoy it.
Not everything here is perfect. But it is unbelievable to think this was 1966. This album has enough in it to be a score of albums for other popular bands. It also inspired scores of more bands because there is depth here from a group that just like exploring the center to edge of music and back again.
Punyal!
Classic, but felt disjointed
Way better than I expected. I won't say it's perfect, but this album makes me appreciate music more as a medium of art overall. The songwriting is so expressive and experimental, it really put me into their heads. It feels like an anthem for the era; a signpost of youthful innocence transforming into a worrisome, unknown future with one foot anxiously and excitedly still in both worlds. There's a handful of tracks that still sound like more simple, sweet pop songs which I was not into as much, but they serve to represent the duality I appreciated nonetheless. Also Yellow Submarine sucks. I don't think I'd have appreciated any of that if I'd heard this earlier in life, so thanks to this project coming along at the right time. Highlights: Tomorrow Never Knows, For No One, I'm Only Sleeping Lowlights: Yellow Submarine, Here There & Everywhere, Got to Get You Into My Life.
Second favorite beatles album easy 4/5

relisten
This is actually a pretty great album (besides yellow submarine) the songwriting is great Listened on an original mono pressing and noticed a bunch of stuff that I haven’t noticed before on the remasters/digital versions. Taxman and I want to tell you are my favorites, both Harrisons. I guess he’s my fav They sound good on the parlor music type McCartney songs, but it is tough listening to them play rock n roll because they are always just holding on for dear life with the feel/groove
Good album, better than The Beatles' earlier stuff
First Beatles album of the generator! Actually found it pretty good.
Beatles are no doubt 5-worthy, but I can't say that this album features enough 5-worthy songs.
You can sense the transition in writing from Help! to Sgt. Pepper's in this album. Pretty cool.
Lots of fantastic songs. Doesn't play as well as some of their other albums, but that's a high bar. I often go out of my way to hear "Taxman" and "Doctor Robert."
Some cool stuff in playing the studio and doing a ton of different types of recording/songwriting techniques. Apparently some consider this their best album, but I don't think I can get that far behind it. To me it starts the new chapter of the Beatles, one of doing whatever the heck they want and doing it for them vs. performances.
safe album. sing songy. has eleanor rigby, love you to, yellow submarine, here there everywhere. 8/10
4 stars
Great album
I’m not the biggest Beatles fan 😬. But the album is good
Eleanor Rigby is one of my fave songs ever.
Top 3 najbolja albuma od recimo poznatog benda Beatles. Meni njihov najbolji, al neb dao pet, huh.
Never actually listened to a full Beatles album. Thought I would hate yellow submarine. Actually loved the drums on it. I am enjoying this album more than I though. Low point: doctor robert High point: I am Only Sleeping.
A nice start to this project; I had never heard this full album, but of course some songs were familiar. It was a smooth listen, though I did not especially love the songs I didn't already know.
Hva kan man si
Beatles er gull, men de må alltid trøkke inn en låt som ødelegger for toppkarakter. Yellow Submarine er gøy, men ikke bra.
I love the Beatles when they do more legit rock. Such good stuff on this one.
yir
Stærkt album, en smule eksperimenterende, hverken meget pop eller rock, studie
I really good album with a lot of influential and memorable songs that I really don't connect with
Brilliant of course.
Probably the best Beatles album. I really like a few tracks
She said
Really good, classic Beatles
and your bird can sing tkm
This album helped to change music as we know it. Advanced from the easy three chord 'light' songs to songs made intended with depth
not my favorite beatles album but you can see how they are transforming in this album. More experimentation than the first pop albums.
Controversial opinion time: this is a fine album by a fine band, and definitely warrants 4 stars. Not 5, 4. 4 is a great rating for an album, and if you had a 4-star album, your nips should tingle with pride. But it's not a 5-star album, and definitely not in the top 10 best albums of all time in the history of the world... ever!. It's a solid, fun piece of work that delights, but it has some filler and doesn't overwhelm the listener sufficiently to raise it to the most exalted pantheon. Prove me wrong! I know the history, of how this was one of the first albums to push the idea of the studio as instrument, and that it punctuated the Fabs' transition from superior pop quartet to psychedelic Shackletons. But the presence of Tomorrow Never Knows does not negate that And Your Bird Can Sing is filler, in that it's a slightly boring, fairly innocuous three-minuter that, well, fills a quarter of an inch on vinyl. Now, such a statement might make me sound as if I wish to be harsh towards this album, and I genuinely don't. I can happily accept that there's some topmost work on this. But exactly why is this so venerated? I can't suss that out. While I'm here, can I ask if I'm perverse for preferring Yellow Submarine to Eleanor Rigby? The former is a cheery little bit of jest from our mate Ringo, detailing the band's happy adventures under the sea, which is exactly what I want from the Beatles. The latter is an okay, slightly stodgy cut of mild pretentiousness that feels too slight for the subject matter, which is what I don't want from the Beatles. Also, is Taxman that popular a sentiment in this day and age? Who wants to hear about millionaires whinging that they might have to give up a chunk of their money Everest in order to pay for a few schools and hospitals? Am I that out of sync with the rest of the world? Why has a Beatles album led me to question the nature of the human race? And remember kids: John Lennon is still a bit of a tosser.
great classic album. heavy guitar riffs. both heartbreaking and soulfull lyrics. iconic sound
A couple of real highlights on here... Eleanor Rigby I was aware of due to the Talib Kweli song sampling it, this, the original is super, definitely no what I expected from the Beatles. In addition, Tomorrow Never Knows was also awesome, a great bundle of energy. A few on the other songs appealed less, dropping it a star.
Trippy but pretty good.
Elinore Rigby
The first album I get on this app and, sure, why not. Great album. But is it great because we know what an influence this album was? Or is it because this and Rubber Soul were the bridge to the great Beatles albums that were to follow?
4/5. It is great.
awesome
The stereo panning can be a little jarring depending on what you’re listening on, but the melodies and instrumentation is top notch, of course. I enjoy the harmonies and the unique instrumentation. As a producer myself, I enjoy those little tricks that make the listening experience a little sweeter. The songs are really the difference. Obviously the quality is below current standards, but the songs still sound unique compared to the standard musical fare. There’s a reason why this record is so celebrated. I do not like Yellow Submarine for various reasons. Overall this was a good album, with many great moments. Maybe not the most accessible Beatles album, but one to check out nonetheless. You’re more than likely going to like it.
Pretty good album, the biggest issue was the discovery of panning and the constantly panning of audio to one side or the other caused a bit of annoyance, but I can't really fault them for that in the end. Overall, very solid.
Dawg it’s revolver
Not the Beatles greatest album, but one of the better ones. A nice “middle ground” between the poppy early stuff and the psychedelic LSD stuff.
A collection of mostly ranging from good to excellent short songs. Some genuinely inspired stuff, but also a couple of duds. My issue is just that it doesn't feel consistent or cohesive. When every some is 2-3 minutes the best ones are gone in a zip without a chance to breath, then you move on to something else.
Excellent album and great sound from the Beatles. Wonderful.
They're alright aren't they, the Beatles. I always loved how surreal yellow submarine is it's great. A nice mix of an album, I haven't just put on and really listened to a full Beatles album before and it was good to do that. I do wonder what I would think if it wasn't, you know, like The Beatles. Enjoyed it loads.
Yeah it's undeniably good but it's not my favourite Beatles album. It's got some bangers for sure. But I must say, I don't like Yellow Submarine, I just don't think it's a good song.
I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles, but I did recognise a few songs on this album. It's some good stuff, but not too keen on the extreme stereo effects, would have preferred it a bit more subtle. Most songs were enjoyable.
Brilliant stuff
Hard to fault despite a couple of proper wobbles. Songs like Eleanor Rigby are simply untouchable. Probably my favorite Beatles album
A true classic, of course. I'd argue it's as influential as Sgt. Pepper.
4/5, cool tunes
Ellenor Rigby
Favorite Beatles
I've already heard it a million times. It's good, but worn out. God i hope it doesn't recommend Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd next.
Eheä kokonaisuus, pari tosi hyvää biisiä.
A bunch of great tracks, and certainly a classic album. However, it doesn't feel very cohesive to me - maybe that's b.c. I know almost all of the tracks first before the album, but it doesn't feel like it flows or has a theme
Classic
Would be churlish but tempting to give this less than 4
Tighter than the white album but fewer standouts songs too. Very innovative and experimental sounds with some lyrical prowess as well. Great production and arrangements with interesting melodies. A few duds IMO in yellow sub, dr Robert etc but also a few gems I wasn’t previously familiar. I’m only sleeping, and your bird can sing, for no one, got to get you into my life.
Whilst not my favourite album, it's a strong one, with some solid hits on it. The fact that it's got sitar in it pushes it up in the ratings. Big up Ravi Shankar
Some lovely tracks on this, some classic beatles. Yellow Submarine is pretty garbage though, sounds like it was written by a 5 year old. Going from 'here there and everywhere' to 'yellow submarine' on the track listing is a joke, considering how nice the former track is.
Of the mid-60s transition Beatles albums, I prefer Rubber Soul, but this one is still a masterpiece.
Im pretty conflicted. I really like this album but it lags pretty far behind lt col pepper and his band. There are very few duds
Garantía
heard it a million times already lol
Ehkä vähän liian pitkä, mutta Beatles on silti Beatles. Itse pidän näistä vanhemmista pop levyistä verrattuna Sgt. Pepper aikakauteen. Pidin erityisesti Eleanor Rigbysta ja Tomorrow Never Knowsta
some great ones in there... and some forgettable ones, too
The more experimental expressive Beatles, some dissonances, some hits. Good
With this album the Beatles left behind rock and roll to get closer to other musical styles. More experimental. (7/10) Favourite Tracks: Eleanor Rigby, For No One
Ein gutes Beatles-Album, reicht nicht ganz an Sgt. Pepper ran.
Really appreciate this album for starting the experimental Beatles arc. The songs are all good but nothing way out there AND on the level of The Beatles hit popularity. Shockingly the most well known song from this album is probably Yellow Submarine, which kinda makes my point.
4/5 well I know the goodies in this one
Really enjoyed this album…. Many were in the Sound Breaking podcast
It was pretty good. It seems a bit different than other Beatles albums, and those differences lead to an interesting experience. Although not specific to this album, the main problems in most songs were that each ear contained one instrument and that the songs were very "60's slow" in that they had that era-specific sluggish feeling to them. All in all, however, these problems don't plague this album like others.
Liked 'Love You To' for its psychedelic elements, 'Yellow Submarine' for rhyming like a shanty, 'I Want To Tell You' for being retarded, 'Got To Get You Into My Life' because I am an uncultured fuck who remembers songs from cartoon, and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' because that's the closest to acid I can get.
Очень необычный звук
Wikipedia article really helped me through this one. Reading the processes of the writing / recording made some of my least favorite Fab Four songs more tolerable. I was pleasantly surprised by George's "Love You To".
I don't have any specific hot takes on this one. I think it's a solid album honestly. While I am not the biggest Beatles fan in the world I respect this album for what it is.
Good album but not my favorite beatles album by a long shot.
Great album with some of my favourite Beatles tracks.
Not usually a fan of music from this time period, but It's the beatles. Not much more to say. Really good for the most part.
I appreciate any incorporation of strings into a song, so Eleanor Rigby was the standout on this album. I enjoyed the incorporation of the sitar, as well. Got To Get You Into My life is also a bop. Everything else was standard Beatles and inoffensive.
A fantastic album. Can always return to it.
7.5/10
This is the first of the Beatles "good albums." Definitely a lot more substance in the lyrics yet no cohesion throughout. It sounds like a bunch of great songs made in different sessions all crammed into one album. It's a rather joyful jaunt, but I'll never understand the name of the album. There are a few songs worth skipping on here - I forgot they existed. I'm only sleeping, bird can sing, dr. robert, and I want to tell you are meh. Tomorrow never knows is also meh, but I can see what they were doing - progressive for its time. The number of songs liked puts it at a 3, but for its time and for the good songs that are on here it gets bumped to 4. It's a good romp, but trim the fat, beatles. I also think maxwell's silver hammer would fit on this album.
Nothing wrong with the Beatles.
Some cool trippy new age tracks. Paul McCartney is such a damn good bassist. Got to Get You Into My Life and Tomorrow Never Knows were highlights. Probably won't listen to it through again, but good. 8/10
Oh jetzt hab ich das Beatlesalbum verpasst! Nicht mein liebstes Album aber 4 Sterne für die Ohrwurmpilzköpfe
Hard to fault despite a couple of proper wobbles. Songs like Eleanor Rigby are simply untouchable. Probably my favorite Beatles album
The Beatles and pop rock at their best for sure. Probably only my second favorite album of theirs, but not by much. Great all the way through, it just didn't have one song that wowed me the way "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" did when I first heard it.
3.5 afgerond naar 4. Niet slecht, maar ze hebben leukere platen.
I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I enjoyed this album. It's an eclectic mix of styles, and it's hard to believe this was only 2 years after Meet the Beatles. I found some songs I'd never heard before that I really enjoyed, and I'll likely revisit this one.
Top stuff
I don't know if I've ever knowingly listened to this album in its entirety before but I felt I'd heard most of it before. It was actually alright tbf and the legacy alone is huge. 8/10
These lads have got a big future
Probably the best Beatles album? Right?
02/05 - Today I worked on door schedule continuity between the manufacturing, drum storage and Lab/Office buildings. I also cleaned up the rest of the UG and Foundation slab sheets for issue. Always an easily listen when it comes to the Beatles. Between Enleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Got to Get You Into My Life... just so many great songs compiled into one great album.
Hard to judge, so many years later, how different this was from its contemporaries
One of the better Beatles albums. I was never a huge Beatles person. When I was younger they were no longer “cool” and I was too angsty to appreciate their goofy songs and I couldn’t look past those to see their more serious tracks. I have heard most of these in the years sense and have come to have more of an appreciation for them. They’re good and I could listen to them more.
I had not been though this album I enjoyed it a great deal. It sounds like the Beatles but more.... grown up or modern. The songs are not nearly as catchy as some of the other albums but still has that "Beatles" sound. submarines out of 5
While I absolutely love this album, I also don’t think it’s the single greatest Beatles record. There are some great songs and I love hearing them begin to transition towards their sound in the later years, but there are moments that kind of lull. Songs that aren’t quite my favorite tracks: “Here, There, and Everywhere,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “Doctor Robert”
Pop rock.
classic album
the version on Spotify sucks. Who remastered this garbage? Just leave it mono.
bissle gefällts ja doch - 4
love the beatles.
Great Beatles album. Not quite a 5 but really close
I think I like the non remastered version of this better. Hard to stream though. It’s not easy to understand this in context. This was probably absolutely mind blowing at the time. Now it’s still good but not 5 star.
Not my favorite Beatles album but there are some great songs - Rigby, She Said, She Said, etc. Wish I could score 4.5
3.5 for eleanor rigby
such a solid beatles album, has a genre of it's own compared to the other ones
Really liked this one -- I've never really given the Beatles a listen, but this album is really good. And the last track is dope af.
Solid Beatles album, but not their best
Another classic from the beatles
Really enjoyable. Plenty of great tunes as expected.
Great album but not my favorite Beatles record.
Purely based on the songs and how I like them, this would be a 3 however I have to commend the "artistry" in the album, it's diversity of different styles aswell as it being ahead of its time for 1966
Listen in historical context, creative and relevant
7/10
Eleanor Rigby is sooooo good. Again, gets a bit weird and experimental. But like... it's the Beatles. Four stars.
8/10
this shit so trash bro
I was never a big fan of the Beatles, but I have to say that listening to this all the way through really made me appreciate them. Hard to place oneself in their time and get a sense of what was revolutionary at the time but now de rigeur. I always like Eleanor Rigby and maybe that alone makes this album notable. But the rest of the songs are also surprisingly good. Favorite that I did not really know before: Here, There, and Everywhere. I get the impression that this is probably the first (chronologically) Beatles album that I would appreciate - you can hear some of the transition from Brit Wave drivel to real artistry and the first (?) hints of their eventual fascination with Indian music. But you get Yellow Submarine as a vestige of their earlier drivel. I still will not likely listen to this again, so I am giving it a 3. Maybe it deserves a 4, but I reserve that for albums I am looking forward to listening to again.
