Reviews (page 10 of 14)
i want to give this five stars, but yellow submarine completely removed me from the moment.
Very solid album. Some certified classics on here.
Good album. Not my favorite from the Beatles
This album has it all - amazing instrumentals (strings, sitar, big brass band), themes of loneliness and death, and psychedelic whimsical jams. Also had no idea that Got to Get You Into My Life was not originally Earth, Wind, and Fire.
This isnt even a top 5 Beatles album for me but it's still a 4
Feels like the Beatles discovered some great new sounds but haven’t figured out what to do with them yet. Some all timers like Eleanor Rigby but uneven
Not the best Beatles album IMHO, but still a pretty damn solid one that pushes recording arts forward (e.g., first use of recorded audio played backwards - check).
The great songs are great but there are some misses too. Clearly a transition album.
Great album but a few minor misses
Absolute classic. The Beatles are goated for a reason. Clear distinction in my recognition between the songs featured on Beatles Rockband versus not
Chaotic and trippy and fun.
This one's great
Not their best album, but it has yellow submarine so
Despite yellow submarine being played to death, had actually forgot how many more iconic songs are on this. Not my fav Beatles but has some interesting tunes
4/5. A nearly perfect list of singles but there are some that are either annoying or don't leave a lasting effect. To be fair, there are a lot of great songs here and the album as a whole is great, I would just skip over some of them though and select some specifically over other ones. It is not even because they are relative to the other songs on the album, they are just not great. It's difficult to rate a Beatles album because all of them are (objectively) 5/5 but not really. The fact that each album is an essay on Wikipedia is a little much. Some songs have aged and it's okay. Best Song: Eleanor Rigby, For No One, Tomorrow Never Knows
I am guessing had I been listening to this at the time I would have put this as a five. Lots of varied sounds throughout the record. Which you don’t get a lot of with new bands. However, through the sieve of time you see that some songs on here are sort of just there. Now maybe I am being too harsh, but that’s the way I felt on this particular listen.
Actually I didn't know much about this album except from "Yellow Submarine" but damn directly with "Tax Man" that was insane so catchy, the guitars were amazing. "Eleanor Rigby" the violin was dope and I love the melody during the chorus really like mysterious but catchy I don't know how to explain it but that was dope af. "I'm Only Sleeping" wasn't the best song I didn't succeed to get into, like there were some weird moment during the song. "Love You To" didn't really like the song, just loved the indian instrument adding a really cool vibe to it sadly it wasn't used the best way to make the song fully enjoyable. WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE, YELLOW SUBMARINE what a baaaaanger obviously. Then the rest of the album was kinda boring but suddenly "Got To Get You Into My Life" arrived and that was a pure banger probably my favourite of the album. To conclude that album was good clearly not the best but you have a lot of really great songs and some classic ones to have.
Definitely a step up from Rubber Soul, and I really enjoyed the string and horn arrangements by George Martin (I think). Feels a bit incoherent still, and only a handful of the songs I would still listen to, but definitely deserves four stars. Favorite Track: Got To Get You Into My Life
Riktigt bra skiva (såklart, det är Beatles)! Ett par av mina favoritlåtar som Eleanor Rigby, Got to get you into my live och Good day sunshine. Lite för ojämnt som helhet för att få en perfekt 5a tycker jag så det får bli 4 av 5.
Fantastiskt album, men inte deras bästa
Revolver is an album that is de facto different. Perhaps I would have had a stronger impression if I had listened to the previous albums chronologically first (this is my 11th album) and then arrived at this one in an evolutionary way. I heard one different, but definitely masterpiece song (Eleanor Rigby) which has always been one of my favorites, and 13 more that are somehow strangely incompatible with each other and don't seem like having a connection with others. I think I have an explanation for how the absence of such a connection makes a strong connection, but nevermind... A strong 4/5 from me which I may change later, we'll see.
One of the better Beatles albums
Great album with one of my favorite Beatles song on it “I am only sleepin”…
Ok I see why people say this is theo4 best album
Great songs. Legendarily album in which the Beatles were able to move into a next level of creativity
Taxman - 4/5 Eleanor Rigby - 5/5 I'm Only Sleeping - 4/5 Love You To - 3/5 Here There And Everywhere - 5/5 Yellow Submarine - 4/5 She Said She Said - 4/5 Good Day Sunshine - 5/5 And Your Bird Can Sing - 3/5 For No One - 5/5 Doctor Robert - 3/5 I Want To Tell You - 3/5 Got To Get You Into My Life - 3/5 Tomorrow Never Knows - 3/5 Average score: 3.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A good album although the covers from Earth Wind and Fire and Suggs and Maccas solo stuff are IMO better. Don’t like some of the tracks. 7/10
Taxman, Elanor, and I’m Only Sleeping still holding up neatly 60 years later. That’s a great threefer to start the album. A lot of variety in the next eight songs, which are all strong but don’t hold up quite as well. The ast three songs make for another great threefer. And what a finish with Tomorrow Never Knows, there was absolutely nothing like this at the time. Definitely the start of psychedelia; but listen to the color of your dreams… L = (2.95*s) J = (3.8*s)
Great precursor to the ultimate Sgt. Peppers. With a little help from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, The Beatles continued to venture out, away for the bubblegum popcorn rock from their beginnings. I really like Harrison at this stage. The more I listen to his tracks, the better and deeper they get. Weird, great cover art to boot...4.05.
2nd tier Beatles album, but still pretty great
4.3 Who am I to critique the Beatles
This was another Beatles album that I don't think I'd ever heard all the way through, though I knew a majority of the songs on it. I enjoyed this album a lot. It feels like a transitional album between their early pop music and the super experimental albums still to come, but it lands in a pretty good happy medium of interesting lyrics and a little musical experimentation while still retaining the catchy pop harmonies and hooks. The sitar and tabla on "I'm Only Sleeping" are cool, and a lot of the lyrics are clearly heavily influenced by the spiritual and drug-induced journeys they were starting to go on. Lyrically, most of the songs are well crafted, and thankfully there's not much of the creep factor that sometimes seeps into their songs (e.g., Norwegian Wood, Run For Your Life, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, etc.). "Eleanor Rigby" is definitely up there among their best songs ever. And "Yellow Submarine" is definitely among their worst (sorry, Ringo, not sorry). Fun fact — the violin part on Sisqo's "Thong Song" is apparently a sample of Wes Montgomery's 1967 jazz cover of Eleanor Rigby. 4.5/5 (giving it a 4) — not quite perfect, but one of the more enjoyable Beatles albums for me.
This is the first beatles album i actually listened to and i really enjoyed it!! I don’t know why it took me so long.
- One of the most famous albums of all time and part of the back-and-forth inspiration/competition between the Beatles and the Beach Boys. What is there left to say? - Tons of creativity on display. That being said, about one-third of this album is not nearly as rich as the rest. For every fascinating "Tomorrow Never Knows," there is a meh "Good Day Sunshine" (a track I have never loved). - Hot Take: "Yellow Submarine" is the highlight. I could listen to that bizarrely warm beat on repeat.
It’s the Beatles, one of the “best”, yeah always something new to hear in the songs but have been played to the point of being a bore. Great foundation to lead to more esoteric bands.
Brilliant album
4/5
This is my first time hearing the entire album, although many of these songs were/are popular. Many critics feel this is the best Beatles album, and even the best album ever. Apparently many innovative audio techniques were employed here. For me this was very good but not quite five stars.
86/100. The Beatles produced a beautiful record with Revolver. The instrumentation is wonderful and the singing is great. For me, this record doesn't hit as hard as it once did, but it's still an amazing listen.
ah yes, og beatles. not really their best work but some of the classics from this album like taxman and eleanor rigby were epic
Always find myself torn with Beatles records. There's no doubt some amazing songs and song writing on them, but also a lot of nonsense that people either wrongly attribute genius to or just overlook the fact they are not very good. Yellow Submarine is a shit song. There, I have said it. It's nonsense and childish and doesn't flow with the rest of the record. Sure it's a catchy chorus, but it's shit. But then there are tracks like Tomorrow Never Knows which is just fantastic and I go back to being confused by The Beatles all over again. I guess what I am trying to say, is The Beatles have some incredible songs, and no doubt hugely influential, but they also did a lot of shite.
Taxman 4.3 Eleanor Rigby 4.5 I'm Only Sleeping 4.2 Love You To 4 Here, There and Everywhere 4 Yellow Submarine 3.6 She Said She Said 4.1 Good Day Sunshine 3.8 And Your Bird Can Sing 4 For No One 4.3 Doctor Robert 4 I Want to Tell You 4 Got to Get You into My Life 4.2 Tomorrow Never Knows 4.6 Score: 4.114285714
Classic songs, and interesting sound.
Most of songs were good, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14
I really liked it but maybe its a bit to slow for me
Fun to hear this after their first couple albums. Definitely getting more into more "serious" song writing.
Voladísimo para su época. Al final lo que más me gusta de los Beatles son sus temas menos conocidos. Para repetir y compartir. Tomorrow never knows a los like. Nota: 4.4
Wait… why did I lowkey enjoy this??
good
As with all Beatles albums, this was so far ahead of its time both musically and stylistically. I think people sometimes forget how revolutionary these sounds were in 1966. There just wasn't anything else like it out there. In an era where popular music was still solidly entrenched in the classic Motown sound and bubblegum rock, any kind of eastern sounds, distorted guitars, and lyrics about “making love" were virtually unheard of. It's hard to pick favorites off a Beatles album, as they are all practically greatest hits collections in their own right. That being said, this isn't my favorite Beatles album, but it's definitely up there.
Neato.
Look I’ll be honest this is an objectively really good album but is not my favorite Beatles album, I’ve always been a fan of earlier, simpler Beatles. I do have a great respect for how experimental this album gets with the sitar kicking off in “Love You To” and basically all of what they do with “Tommorow Never Knows”. My personal favorite song on this album is “Here there and everywhere”. Also I feel like “Yellow Submarine” gets too much hate, it’s fun and whimsical and people gotta chill out with it. “And your bird can sing” deserves a bit more recognition than it gets. I’m giving this album a four, it’s not my favorite Beatles album but it’s objectively really good and the influence it had on studio recording is obviously well known.
The mono mix on taxman was hurt by headphones, would've been better on speaker. Eleanor Rigby is one of my favorite Beatles tunes ever. This album in general speaks to the kinds of Beatles tunes I prefer: softer, melodic, sweeter. "Yellow Submarine" is such a classic song, I feel like I rarely listen to it but it just hits so nice every once in a while. "For No One" is another song that for years has been at the top or near the top of my favorite Beatles songs. Overall I feel this album has some of the highest highs for me and I would listen to the whole album cover to cover every once in a while but not on a consistent basis.
Heard before. Quite good.
Classic but not my favourite
A tricky album because it is neither my favorite Beatles album, nor is it the one I consider to be their "best" (however arbitrarily that would be decided) yet I do believe it to be a masterpiece in its own right. This album is stylistically diverse, including new Indian inspired influences, but still has a twinge of early Beatles flavors. Rubber Soul and Revolver are simultaneously transitionary LPs but also some of the best material the band pulled together front to back over the course of their catalogue. "Here, There, Everywhere", "Good Day Sunshine", "Eleanor Rigby", "Taxman" "And Your Bird Can Sing" are some of my favorites
Eleanor Rigby one of the best songs ever I think. Got To Get You Into My Life is also a megabop.
Pretty fire. Any beatles song is good
Not as good as I remember it to be but solid
I now know what it feels like to have been high in the 60s
I'm only sleeping... :) Maybe one of my favs from them...
Not their best but still great.
Liked it better than expected Interesting that all songs are about 2min long Has a few tracks I really enjoy
Lots of variety in the track list and even the songs I don't like are at least interesting. Clearly it deserves a 5 for its influence, but for me most of the track list falls into the category of "great but not amazing". Eleanor Rigby is fantastic though
Great album. Tracks that have gone on to be sampled, used in films, recut and remixed. Classic Beatles
Beautifully experimental! Never really liked the Beatles, just a little bit of Harrison's solo work, so I was very surprised with myself for liking Revolver as much as I did.
Another incredible classic from the Beatles. I can't say anything more that hasn't been already said.
Prefer this later version of the Beatles. Lovely cozy sound. Varied. Really chill songs with lovely harmonies and lovely melodies. A dash of LSD.
4.5/5
Okay, first of all, let's address the elephant in the room: the amount of unwarranted hatred the Beatles get from people who haven't heard any of their albums is just ridiculous. This album is great, and this was my first time listening to a Beatles album. I can now see why people hold them in such high regard. The music is beautiful, and the composition is spot on. I can tell this was very early rock and roll, and they had such a big influence on the artists who came after them. I’m amazed, and I will definitely listen to them more often from now on.
This album gets 3.5 stars for what it started. It's a good album, but not as good as what they do later. Also, I can't get that "K-Mart ad fodder" review out of my head after listening a 2nd time. Rounded up because I'm pretty sure the Beatles have proven themselves
Very much ahead of its time, as most Beatles records are. Constantly interesting and while I stayed engaged, I was never really wowed by anything
12/19/24. Very good collection of songs here, this is my first time listening through this Beatles album. They definitely had the studio chops!
Olhae, quem diria que tem estilo e história nos Beatles. Eu gosto de Beatles, mas nesse álbum nenhuma música que eu gosto está. Entretanto, é uma boa experiência. Gostei de *Taxman*, *Eleanor Rigby*, *Here, There and Everywhere*, I Want To Tell You e Tomorrow Never Knows. É um álbum que vou dar mais chance depois.
Classics
-this is really phenomenal, I haven’t heard as much Beatles stuff as I would like to but this is some of the most interesting music I have heard from them. I love the variety between tracks, the oddly fitting Hindustani classical influence, and holyshit Tomorrow Never Knows has got to be the coolest shit I’ve heard from them. love it -Favorites are Taxman, Love You To, and Tomorrow Never Knows
Absolute classic. Not a bad song on it. I've always preferred the later albums, especially with all the ways they pushed boundaries and expanded their sound. Only thing keeping me from rating it any higher is that The Beatles have other albums I personally prefer over Revolver.
Good. Obviously
While not my cup of tea, it was an enjoyable listen , and most importantly, made me finally notice what people mean when they talk about the novelty and experimwntality of the Beatles. I also heard about their eastern influences in music, and this feels like the first one with clear influence
Probably the first actually interesting Beatles record. Prior to this they were, for the most part, just a pop band. Rubber soul had a couple of interesting tracks, but this was a record. It’s amazing what stopping touring and taking a shed-load of drugs can do for a music group
Love it
Albumi #123, 03.12.2024 Beatlesin ehdottomasti parhaita levyjä.
Sounds like the beatles
Great album, middle section kind of weak however
Solid Beatles album. The variety in the song is insane. They truly can do it all. All the songs were great.
Probably my favorite Beetles album. That said, some of the songs are mediocre at best. And the ones that stand out for me are those that stepped out of the norm for it's time. Like Taxman and Yellow Submarine.
Great album with some massive songs on it. Avoids the elusive 5 though cause there are a few duds on it.
Another Beatles album on this list, and it is another enjoyable romp. Yellow SUbmarine has always been my favorite since elementary school music class. So this album is up their for me, but still about a 4 out of 5.
If I'm ever hard pressed to name a favorite Beatles album, which isn't necessarily often but honestly it's weird that it happens at all, Revolver is usually my response. It doesn't feel like it's dragging or meandering or trying to take me on a psychedelic adventure, and it also doesn't sound like a record company handed four young men ten to twelve three-minute pop songs.
Still slaps
Very good
Pretty good, not my favorite Beatles album but still pretty good
Paar echt briljante nummers. Eleanor Rigby en Paul McCartney's For No One als absolute nummer 1.
Najbardziej zaskoczony byłem chyba na koniec, "Tomorrow Never Knows" - taki banger w '66... Kwas rządzi!
Remarkeble for 66!
Already listened
Where they are fully embracing ‘your mother wouldn’t approve, but the kids love it’ phase….
It’s hard to rate Beatles albums. Almost every single record by The Beatles contains revolutionary ideas and some of my favorite Beatles songs from their catalog. A lot of them also have a few misses for me personally. My ears have never enjoyed the sound of sitar. I respect them for exploring all genres of music, but it turns me off from some of their songs. Some songs like Birthday from the White Album or Good Day Sunshine from this record are just corny to me. The musicianship is always great, but those songs amongst others are skips for me. Despite having a few skips, it’s hard to criticize this record too much because of how revolutionary it was. The Beatles started using the studio as an instrument, which really changed music as we know. And while there’s some songs I personally don’t love, they also have some of their best songs ever on this record.
Always good
Fav: Here, There And Everywhere Least Fav: Doctor Robert Best Beatles album on the list so far, but some of the tracks feel like they’re missing something. It’s shocking that some of these songs were made in the 60s…
Another great album from the Beatles, my favorites are “Got To Get You Into My Life” and “Eleanor Rigby”
One of my favorite Beatles albums. Many hits on this one. Some of my favorite tracks like Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, She Said, Good Day Sunshine, Yellow Submarine, Gotta Get You Into My Life and more. A great listen front to back.
#55 It's the Beatles, so great, and some of the songs are 5 stars (Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine). In total I have heard better Beatles albums.
I don't know many Beatles songs other than the well-known ones, so this was nice to listen to and discover more of their work. Enjoyed it a lot, but I probably wouldn't go back to it because I'm a basic bitch who just wants the big hits
Fantastic album... just not quite the full five for me (4.5)
Beautifully crafted psychedelic pop which is probably responsible bringing the genre into the mainstream, influencing generations of bands to come. Nice use of sitar, reverse guitar solo's. Great use of harmonies and string arrangements in the more classic sounding Ballads. Also.. WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE A YELLOW SUBMARINE A YELLOW SUBMARINE
Look at the Lads! Growing right before our eyes and ears. Not the innocent Fab Four anymore. Now it’s sitars and sex in a smoke filled package. Love these damn hippies!
Det er Beatles, kan ikke gå galt.
They got better albums but this is still pretty good.
Great album.
It's Revolver! I adore 'And your bird can sing' and 'I'm only sleeping'.
I mean yeah
This was always my favourite Beatles album along with Rubber Soul. Not a 5 currently because I listened to it too much at one point. (I should have given the White album a 3 really as it never was a favourite, but was being sentimental about the Beatles.)
excellent
I think this is the best Beatles record I've heard. This is actually innovative and boundary pushing without straying into the silly tweeness (almost, Yellow Submarine can fuck off). I genuinely enjoyed which is a surprise to everyone.
I've never actually listened to a Beatles album back to front, you know. ok FINE it's good
Great overall.
These guys are really good. Who are they? Seriously though, my only complaint is that some of the tracks may have been overplayed a little
Wow, this was excellent Taxman and Eleanor Rigby were already favorites Biggest surprises: "and your bird can sing" and "got to get you into my life" Preeetty pretty pretty good
Great album. All the songs on here are awesome. That being said I cant give it a 5 because there are definitely some lower points on here that I dont necessarily look forward to on re listens.
If it wasn't for Yellow Submarine.....
Love the Beatles some track on here I love and give me such nostalgia from being a little girl visiting Liverpool
Solid
Quite enjoyed this. Doubt I’d be back in a hurry but it’s the best Beatles record I’ve heard so far. Nothing to really say about the Beatles that havent already been said, but aye, canny this
Feels like it has been a while since the last Beatles album - we must have had nearly all of them by now. I like The White Album, and Rubber Soul. Revolver is alright. It is incredibly diverse, and snappy. Eleanor Rigby is one of their best songs, and I also like I'm Only Sleeping, Yellow Submarine, and Tomorrow Never Knows. It is definitely a mid-way album, to how they ended up. A decent run of albums randomly generated here.
This is our 4th Beatles album so far, feels like it's been a while actually..... Obligatory not a huge Beatles fan. Not sure if this just caught me on the right day but I enjoyed this and I'm going to say this is my favourite album of theirs we've had. I still think there are a lot of filler songs, but there are some belters too. Tax man, Eleanor Rigby and tomorrow never knows are the highlights. 4
Eleanor Rigby was stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
First album in my journey of becoming a music nerd. Currently listening in order. Pretty chill stuff. Catchy, too. Every song flows pretty nicely. Also, it's actually pretty nice for doing homework, I think. I see why it's rated so high now.
Tolles Album.
What were they inventing so many years ago
Mitt första Beatles-album. Förvånad över hur många klassiker som fanns på denna.
One of their best
An absolute classic, probably my favourite Beatles album (not that I know all of them in loads of detail). Taxman and Eleanor Rigby an incredible start, generally the album epitomises everything good about the Beatles. 9/10.
Good album. Not all great but very good. Never been a fan of Yellow Submarine.
The Beatles, it is not a real argument, are the greatest pop/ rock band that ever was, and likely will be. Now to be sure there are lots of super great bands that came after, but I think it is to do with an especially rare talent: they have a signature sound but they sound "different" throughout each song they perform. Michael Jackson had this talent, Fleetwood Mac... The Rolling Stones... Notice that these are all GOAT worthy bands. Yet The Beatles have something in the lyrics, something so raw and real, each and every song, so different the mood and the "feelings" you get. From fists in the air, to trippin' out on the shag rug, to crying over lost loves... it's all there and it is simple. Unbelievable. Revolver is not my favorite of theirs, but it is ... an album from the greatest band ever so...
Amazing album with a huge cultural impact. There's not much to be said that hasn't already been said by so many other people, much more eloquent in this field than me. Still, on a personal level, it's not the one I'd pick up when I feel like listening to the Beatles. 4.5/5
Not my favorite Beatles but still good
I listened to this release five times today, just wanting to give it a five. For context this is one of my father’s favourite albums but to me many of the songs just have something missing to them. What I really love about the beatles is how extravagant they are but a lot of the songs on here have an idea and just roll with that until the end, no bridge or anything, I guess that’s fine but it doesn’t make 5/5 songs. It’s still a masterful album but in my honest opinion not perfect
This beatle album upsets me a little bit. I spend my entire life hearing about how this band is the best in the world and hearing pretty okay album after pretty okay album I didn't get it. Hearing that Abby Road, the most dad rock album I had ever heard, was the pinnacle of music and finding out it was just pretty good was annoying. But then to hear this, songs that repeatedly did interesting and cool stuff, and know that The Beatles could have kept doing more of this, seeing what I could have gotten? Makes me oddly mad.
One of the best by them, by far.
eleanor rigby easily the best song but it’s soooooo good
Amazing album have listened to it before but on a relisten something clicked. Elenor rugby,Taxman ,here there and everywhere are amazing
Not a controversial opinion to say that this is a very strong album. For me it’s not quite a 5 but when this album is good it’s great. Fav track is for no one
Not my favourite Beatles album, but definitely some bangers.
Great album. Lacks the overall strength of other Beatles albums, but still really good. 4/5 Will listen again
Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.
Haven’t heard half these songs but they’re good. The sitar stuff kinda stinks but nobody’s perfect
The beautiful thing about 30 minute albums is it gives you a chance to listen multiple times. First play through I did not care for muchbof the album. It seemed disjointed and had no flow. A few listens and a little research on the album brought me around.
All the love to George, but I cannot hear Taxman anymore! A few bubblegum and over played songs on this but that's not their fault. It's a good album and I especially have always loved "I'm Only Sleeping" and "She Said She Said" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" - those songs are what keeps this album high on my list, though Rubber Soul & White Album & Abbey Road would rank higher.
4.5 almost a 5. Just so engaging even for my adhd brain. and tackles loneliness and connection in such a casual way. so psychedelic- i want to get stoned now and listen.
Excellent
They just have such a unique sound and I really do love it.
Yellow Submarine!
First time listening to a Beatles album.
Yellow Submarine is a banger.
Enjoyed it more than any Beatles before
very lovely, has some beautiful tracks on it
Some good songs, some really unnecessary fluff. This album felt a little long , even though i like the white album. Idk - many of the deep cuts were just on. But the music and vocals were good and Elenor Rigby is hard to beat.
Amazing step forward for the Beatles but it’s a few songs short of perfect, especially Doctor Robert which is such a stupid ass song imo. What a lackluster name for a drug dealing pharmacist guy lol.
Supposedly peak Beatles, or peak pre-Pepper Beatles, and while I do like "Eleanor Rigby" and "Got To Get You Into My Life" the rest kinda falls flat or not at all (looking directly at you "Yellow Submarine"). Rubber Soul was better, Pepper would be next, this kinda is just there almost out of contractual obligation...
I enjoyed it
The inflection album between light poppy easy Beatles and more experiential interesting stuff.
already listened to it, one of my favourite beatles albums
for the love of god please listen in mono
It's Revolver. Not my favorite by them so I'm judging more harshly. I feel like they only got better.
There were the songs you know and love, the “Yellow Submarines”, “Here, There and Everywheres”, and “Eleanor Rigbys”…and then there were the ones like “Taxman”, “Tomorrow Never Knows”, and “Love You To”. As a whole, it was delightful to blindly listen and hear the ones I love. But not as joyful was listening to some of the songs that kind of made me go “ehh”. The great songs and good songs outweigh the ehhh songs though, and made for a decent album listening experience.
Just a great album
never really been my fav Beatles album, although "got to get you into my life" is one of my fav songs by them. if this was the only beatles album on the list it'd skate by with a 5 probably but when there's so many, you gotta grade on a curve
You know what's a bad acid trip? Dropping LSD and then looking at this album cover. George's eyes always freak me out.
I mean it’s good but I still don’t understand
not quite a five due to a few meh/bad tracks such as I Want To Tell You and Love You To
Lots of vocal harmony, cool "world music" influences (middle Eastern instruments)
We hate taxes 😌 Love the strings on rigby Varied instrumentals Y E L L O W S U B M A R I N E 😤 Outro goes crazy
The Beatles had no bad albums, but they have entries stronger than this one. The hits are the hits tho
trippy. classic, don’t need to return to it for this
One of their best
Plain to see how and why people were blown away back in the day. I did like Sgt. Pepper's a tad more, so I gotta rank this a little lower than it probably deserves.
First Beatles album! I loved Eleanor Rigby and I'm only sleeping but honestly for me it fell off a bit after that. I know this is supposed to be one of their best but I'm not the biggest Beatles fan and I just don't get what is so great about this one. Still, 4 stars for those two songs which really are very good.
I know lots of peoples favourite Beatles album. Not sure it's mine but I do enjoy it quite a bit. I think what stops this record competing with Abbey Road in my mind is the catchiness factor isn't just quite as up there as AR. This album has a lot of cool and varied ideas on it but I don't find myself singing along to it as much as songs on Abbey. Feels weird giving it a 4 but I need a distinction between how I feel about this record, and Abbey Road so there ya go.
Half on and half off Nice songs followed by snoozes Almost enough weird
I mean, what can you say about such an iconic album? It offers a bunch of great songs, some so-so ones, and one or two that lean far too heavily on the sitar.
This isn't as good as I remember. Taxman is simple and effective pop rock w reactionary lyrics. Eleanor Rigby seems like the point where they start to get hugely impressed with themselves and lean into their pompous era - insanely overrated song. I'm only sleeping dabbles in studio effects for a psych101 rocker with great melodies. Love to You has a sitar drone and raga beat to an exotic flair that's quintessentially 60s. Here there Everywhere is tender chamber pop with a jangly guitar lead that adds an spikey element to the bittersweet smooth harmonies. Yellow submarine is Barney level pap. She said has the most iconic 60s pop psych sound with the massive swooping sounds, jangly guitars, and doubled vocals. Good day sunshine is more stupid kids music with an oompah doompah beat and idiotic chorus. And your bird can sing has a great high energy riff and catchy vocals - the guitar sound is great. For no one is a way less successful harpsichord song than Girl, but has a cool horn part. Dr Robert is generic LSD pop. I want to tell you is more of that iconic distinctive combo of close harmony and jangly guitar leads. Got to get you into my life is by far the best McCartney song here, carried by a Motown sounding horn part and bass line and a great vocal performance that builds and builds until a very satisfying break. Tomorrow never knows wraps it up with an all time great psych excursion into drones and trance and studio trickery. The guitars do sound great on all these songs, and they're having fun with more exploratory instrumentation and studio experimentation and I do love the way they bend a song with bridges and melodic variations twists and turns.
A collection of great songs with a few sub-par.
Full of classics but actually quite disjointed as an album
Tolles Album!
I really enjoyed Revolver and while I don't believe it is the best album from The Beatles I do think its a great experience. My one gripe is that the second half didn't do as much for me as the first, but even so its still The Beatles so I can appreciate the songwriting and ideas on display. Overall a great album from a great band, but I don't think that's a surprise for anyone.
Simple yet great. This is a lazy ass review Favorite Song: Taxman Rating: 3.8/5
not the best beatles album, starts off incredible then gets kinda weak by the end
Classic 3 min pop songs
I enjoyed it.
Great more than an album an experience!
Best songs : Elenor rigby , tomorrow never knows Worst song: yellow subermarine(yes I think this is one most well known Beatles songs) I think this is my favorite Beatles albums but is definitely not a 10 but a very solid 8
Classic
I thought this was a really pleasant album. A couple of songs I wouldn't add to a playlist of Beatles songs, but for the most part great.
Obviously extremely influential, the start of their sound experimentation, some true bangers, not the height of their discography due to some duds
Taxman 4/5 Eleanor Rigby 5/5 I'm Only Sleeping 5/5 Love You To 4.5/5 Here, There and Everywhere 5/5 Yellow Submarine 3.5/5 She Said She Said 4.5/5
Upper mids
It is not easy to rate the Beatles.
Now this is what I wanted from a Beatles album! I liked it a lot, and not just the tracks from No. 1, but that said... Favourite track: Eleanor Rigby.
More exceptional strong songs from that there Liverpool foursome. Hard to fault.
Toinen Beatles-albumi muutaman päivän sisään. Opettavaisia kokemuksia nämä. TIL ettei Taxman ole Stevie Ray Vaughanin biisi.
It was good and I heard some songs I liked and didn’t previously know like “She Said She Said”. “Here There and Everywhere” is one of my fave Beatles tracks.
Classic, already heard many times and still love it.
Love some of the songs like eleanor rigby but the rest are mid imho - 8/10
I prolly listened to this like 4 times through but was still moving out of Darlington so I was only half inside so the 4th listen was the only one that counted. Obviously was good. Yellow submarine is nostalgic, a bunch of the other songs r just good. The ones w Indian influence kinda threw me off. Idk if I like the sitar(or whatever instrument that is) and idk how I feel ab how that mixed w the music. 8/10? 8.5/10… idk
7/10 - fairly entertaining. Yellow submarine is pretty good but so was get into my life. I also remember playing Eleanor rugby in orchestra and the song is quite a banger
When I generated this album, I remember being pretty excited to listen. Then immediately after I got super sick for like 5 days. It has been awful. Finally back though, and this was good. I feel similarly to abbey road; this might get a 5 from me if it weren’t the Beatles, but I just came in already expecting so much
Really good and I'm not a huge Beatles fan
They're not all hits, but the ones that are...
Heaterrrr
Classic and clean. The Sierra Nevada Pale Ale of music.
OK plade.
This is a good album.
Chille beatles
I listened to this on a loud car ride with my gf and her mom so I wasnt able to give it a proper listen. I know some of these songs, but most it was my first exposure. I liked it. Im not sure if I've ever listened to a beatles album through and its interesting how all the more experiment songs get cut when you just listen to the hits. I liked the experimental stuff and I've always been a fan of the goofy stuff like yellow submarine and octopus's garden. Some of the best beatles tracks are on this. Eleanor Rigby, Taxman, Yellow Submarine are standouts just off the top of my head. I think this album is a great beatles album.
Im not a huge Beatles guy but I like most of their stuff. Maybe at the time this was revolutionary but to me it just sounds like a nice, uncomplicated album of pop rock. “Love you to” is the only oddity since they use a sitar and some effects. “Tomorrow Never Knows” could also be described like that. Otherwise very straightforward songs we’ve all heard a billion times. I finally looked up the meaning behind “Dr. Robert” and it is supposedly a real person who prescribed famous people amphetamines. lol.
Almost as good as its reputation.
There’s nothing I can say about the Beatles that hasn’t already been said. One of the best albums of one of the best bands. Personally, I like this album, but I don’t love it.
Realy liked it. Guess I’m a Beatles fan
Half great, half just good.
It may sound like sacrilege, but I find this album overrated among The Beatles’ releases. George kinda ruins it with all his sitars and droning. Throw in another couple songs in the vein of For No One and I’m Only Sleeping, and you have yourself a masterpiece, but as it stands, there are a couple songs here that I would skip, so it can’t get all 5 stars.
really enjoyed this actually.
Лучшая песня - Tomorrow Never Knows.
..
Certainly not the "best" Beatles album, but the bridge between their two distinctive periods. Even more defined by the fact that the Beatles stopped touring, allowing them to focus fully on recording and innovating in the music space. By treating this as the bridge, we are able to see society step over the previous walls of pop music and see what potential music had to offer them. Undoubtedly these techniques have been copied into both digital and analog effects and modern practices. 3.5/5
It's real good, but every one already knows that. Will I listen to again: 75%
It's good, not their best in my opinion.
Super chill and positive. You can tell a lot of artist were influenced by the sound. Need to give it another listen on shrooms. 3.7/5
First Beatles album. Interesting to spend some time listening to such an influential album.
Great album, but I am not a huge fan of it. The sitar gets on my nerves after a while. Nevertheless you have Elenor Rigby, And your bird can sing, Taxman on it and they are classic Beatles songs. Worth checking it out, but i think there are better Beatles albums than this
The album where the Beatles grew up.
If this was the only Beatles album I think I would give it a five. It definatley place with my other fives. However, compared to some of their other albums this is not my favourite. First there are some great songs on here "Elenor Rigby", "I'm Only Sleeping", "Love you too", "For No One".... etc. etc. But there are some tracks that I don't think are as good (looking at you "Yellow Submarine"). Honestly it's a cool album (and album art) but it misses that really killer track and has some unusual lows when the experimentation goes wrong. That being said the ending track "Tomorrow never knows" is a cool way to finish the album. So a 5 for any other band but a 4 because otherwise all Beatles albums would be 5s more or less.
This is always cited as their best, or top three at least, isn't it?
Even as a renowned Beatles hater, I'm man enough to admit when they were kind of cooking. I say 'kind of' because despite the highlights, there's some definite filler on here, looking at you 'Yellow Submarine', 'Doctor Robert', 'I Want To Tell You'. The highlights make up for it though, songs like 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'For No One' are fantasticly written little things, short and to the point with great ideas. Then the best for me is 'Love You To' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' (a 10/10 if i've ever heard one), where they really get their hands dirty trying to experiment. It's a shame they didn't walk down this path more, as it's always annoyed me how they clearly have the ability to do something interesting, but often just fell back into safe pop-rock.
Yesss. To me, this is their strongest album in terms of cohesiveness. “Yellow Submarine” belongs on Sgt Pepper’s and of course, in their typical fashion, you have chamber music mixed in amongst experimental (and brilliant) numbers like “Tomorrow Never Knows.” Yet somehow, it flows. “For No One” is definitely in my top 5 of fave Beatles’ songs, so I love this album special for that. 4.5
Great record. You can see the members starting to take their own path on this album. It's a testament to their popularity (and the time) that songs like "Elenor Rigby" and "Love to You" could be popular despite having only strings/sitar accompaniment. Probably another example of an album only the Beatles could make. 4.7
If nothing else, Beatles detractors have to at least admit that the band never stagnated in terms of their sound. Their innovation and creativity in Revolver is a lot of fun to listen to, even if the lack of coherence puts it below other Beatles albums on my personal tier list - only because I prefer records to come together as a full, consistent package. From the strings in Eleanor Rigby to the sitars in Love You To, the soul and R&B leanings of Got to Get You Into My Life to Yellow Submarine as sort of a precursor to Sgt. Pepepr, you have to appreciate the boldness to have so much variety in a 35-minute album. Not all the songs will appeal to everyone's tastes, but when they do, they really do. Standouts for me are Here, There and Everywhere, She Said She Said, Good Day Sunshine, And Your Bird Can Sing, I Want to Tell You, and Got to Get You Into My Life.
yeah. good album.
favourite: i'm only sleeping, here there and everywhere least favourite: love you to mayb 7-8/10
A record influenced by the era of drug experimentation, Eastern meditation, and peace-loving hippies, Revolver in a lot of ways feels like a zeitgeist of the decade it was created in. The rather avant-garde nature of its tracklist and the variety of sonic influences ranging from Indian influences on songs like Love You To, more pop-centric songs like Yellow Submarine, to psychedelic drugtrips such as the closing track Tomorrow Never Knows ultimately demonstrate Revolver at its boldest.
An incredibly diverse album with an insane amount of standouts. Docking a star because of the libertarian anthem that kicks this bad boy off.
Taxman - 4.5 Eleanor Rigby - 5 Im Only Sleeping - 4 Love You To - 3.5 Here, There and Everywhere - 4.5 Yellow Submarine - 4 She Said She Said - 4 Good Day Sunshine - 4.5 And Your Bird Can Sing - 4.5 For No One - 4.5 Doctor Robert - 3.5 I Want To Tell You - 3.5 Got To Get You In My Life - 5 Tomorrow Never Knows - 4 Average - 4.1 Not the best Beatles album but definitely an iconic classic 👍
Not my favorite Beatles album, but it's still the Beatles.
"Yellow Submarine" is a bar song, and no one will convince this reviewer otherwise. The catchiest song however goes to "Eleanor Rigby". This album is the Beatles. They are a known entity, their expectations pretty straight forward. Their popularity very settled, this album is a testament to their growth and evolution as a band, while also spelling the beginning of their arguable descent into artists with solo aspirations, creative differences, and conflicting relationships... and drugs. Granted, the latter might have been more present than anyone cares to admit, but this album shared some of the traits of being experimental and story-telling, almost completely shedding the clean-shaven, well-dressed remnants of early 60s rock that itself was a dying theme from the 50s.
Not a bad Beatles album honestly. I am not the biggest fan by default. I will likely listen again if I'm in the mood for Beatles. 4/5
Pass, will listen on CD at some point
Taxman Eleanor Rigby I’m Only Sleeping Here, There and Everywhere Yellow Submarine Got to Get You Into My Life Their voices are iconic. Beautifully constructed bars and harmony. Lyrics sound meaningfully and not just a bunch of nonsense. Solid album through and through
Таааааак...... Банда отморозков из Ливерпуля творит историю. Первый из серии шести на мой взгляд по настоящему великих альбомов битлов, оценивать такое без оглядки на историческую значимость довольно проблематично."Eleanor Rigby" вообще великая песня, "tomorrow never knows" один из первых звоночков будущей психоделичной эры их творчества,"I'm only sleeping" один из любимых фановых заходов Леннона, "Got to get into my life" "For no one" и "I want to tell you" по битловски легкие,воздушные и минорные песни в то же время обладают такой мелодической мощью что потом еще долго не выходят из головы. Вообще мелодическая мощь это наверное лучшее описание этого альбома. Revolver конечно не самый мой любимый альбом этой банды но тем не менее игнорировать весь кайф этой музыки не получится
Classics, love songs, just really enjoyable classic Beatles.
An absolute masterpiece. The Beatles at their creative best - what an album. 4.5/5
Good morning or early afternoon listen
Classic Beatles
I don't think I've ever consciously listened to an entire Beatles album before. The hits are hits but I also liked the less known songs and was pleasantly suprised by the psychedelic vibe some of these had.
Album released on my Dad's birthday 2 years prior to his birth! Album cover is an all-time great This record holds 3 tracks by the Beatles I love. Also, good on them for figuring out stereo recording but Jesus Christ, it's crazy how much they pan some important details to just ONE side only hahaha. I feel bad for people back in the day with incorrectly setup speakers. ------------ Revolver is a landmark album in the Beatles' discography, showcasing a band at the peak of their creative powers. From the introspective beauty of "Eleanor Rigby" to the trippy experimentation of "Tomorrow Never Knows," the album is a kaleidoscope of sounds and styles. Each Beatle shines on Revolver, with George Harrison arguably stealing the show. Tracks like "Taxman" and "Love You To" showcase his growing confidence as a songwriter and his willingness to explore new musical territory. While all four members are essential to the band's magic, there's a strong case to be made for George being the most underrated Beatle on this album. However, it's impossible to ignore the shadow cast by John Lennon's later actions. It's a tragedy that his talent was cut short, and while this review aims to celebrate the music, it's worth noting that his choices ultimately led to his untimely demise. Overall, Revolver is a brilliant and essential album, earning it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. While it may not be flawless, it's a testament to the band's boundless creativity and a reminder of the immense musical potential lost with John Lennon's passing. ------------ Favorite track(s): Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Love to You, Yellow Submarine (hell yeah), Good Day Sunshine, Doctor Robert, Tomorrow Never Knows
I’ll admit I am a massive fan of this album because as a kid Yellow Submarine was one of my favorite movies and I played the violin. The composition of the tracks, from George's sitar features to the fucking mod nonsense of She Said She Said… this is kinda an unfuckwithable record. To give it less than 4 stars would be criminal.
Having never managed to get into the beatles deeper cuts, barely grazing the surface with their earlier and most popular hits, this was a breath of fresh air. While at times it feels convoluted and confused by its own being, there are some tracks ("tommorow never knows" "Doctor Robert") that feel genuinely fresh...
Some perfect tracks in there
Good album but not as good as the white album. 3.5/5
Not my fave Beatles album, but there are some personal faves on here.
Good Indian song was... Different
Great album. I feel they may have leaned on the eastern influences a little too much for what they got from it.
Got some classics on here but doesn’t compare to some of their other stuff
not my favourite beatles album but many good songs
another solid beatles album...
We all live in a yellow submarine
decent but not my fav beatles songs
Fun, upbeat, some hits not as memorable but overall good vibes.
Beatles!
The Beatles are just wonderful. They did so much to change the face, or perhaps I should say the sound of popular music. Of course, they were influenced by people like Buddy Holly, but their influence is so far reaching. Never listen to this particular album before. New number of the songs on it already. Yes, I would definitely listen to this one again.
Because it´s just the Beatles I had to listen to it several times. At the date of release "Revolver" had sure been a 10 out of 5 stars. But from todays perspective for me it´s just a very good, well aged album.
Look and listen, this is a landmark album and all Beatles albums are 4s and 5s for me. However, this is a collection of some of the more meh songs from them in my mind, She Said, She Said is a standout but the rest (almost all classics) don't really make a dent with me. Would probably go 3.5 here if I could.
For no one Tomorrow never knows
3.5
they can never make me hate you, beatles YELLOW SUBMARINE IS AN ABSOLUTELY GOD-TIER SONG FOR BOTH CHILDREN AND TWEAKERS ALIKE
Nice Beatles album. Had never listened to this album but contains a lot of well known songs.
First three songs are really solid, Elenoar Rigby being one of their best songs, period. Then tracks 4-7 don’t do much for me, before there’s banger after banger until the end, only interrupted by the silly Doctor Robert. Discovery of the day: For No One
A good Beatles album, but it's one of the few albums that doesn't have a ton of hits. A good album, but definitely not one of their best.
I had written a well thought out review of this album but it didn't save. That makes me sad.
not their best, imho
Legends
achh d beatles <3
Some veerry nice songs !!
I'm biased, this is my favorite Beatles album. It's the only one we owned growing up so I listened to it hundreds of times. I still love it. A bunch of great songs on here. Lots of technical innovations that influenced a lot of music to come out of the late 1960s. Also, Yellow Submarine.
Y'know despite probably having heard like 80% of everything The Beatles ever released, I'm not sure how often I've sat down and listened to one of their actual ALBUMS - it's always been the countless collections they've released over the years, or a carefully-curated playlist of b-sides and rarities that one of my record shop colleagues put together to impress people. So I think this is the first time I've ever actually listened to Revolver despite being familiar with nearly all the songs. For starters I didn't even know Yellow Submarine was on this album, which is still absolutely appalling and will forever stand as testament to why you should never take so many drugs that you let the drummer do a song. Rest of it's grand though
Every Beatles album is sone new direction. Eleanor Rigby is the best one off this set, I think. This album is only 2 years after Eight Days A Week and feels like a new decade.
Adoro Eleanor rigby nah mu bueno
I had forgotten how many very good songs there are on this album
More uneven than I remember, but still a great songwriting showcase. Hard not to compare to the rest of The Beatles’ output, so this misses five stars by missing the highs of other (presumably on this list) great albums.
Overall this album had a lot of what I would call hidden gems. There were a lot of tracks outside of E.R. and Y.S. that I remember but never really sought out. They are some of my favorite tracks as well! Overall, this a very good album that I would listen to most of! Track by track reactions: 1 - I'm immediately bothered a bit by the left headphone heavy mix. I won't penalize the album but I hope it rights itself. I like this track! 2 - OK... well the audio engineer is not my favorite person but I'll stop talking about how this is now right ear heavy. Love this song! Is this one of my top 5 Beatles tracks? I guess we will find out but it is certainly in the convo. 3 - I think I've heard this one before. It is a fine slow head bopper. For a second I got a Smashing Pumpkins vibe. I wonder if this one helped influence some of their more chill tracks. Someone ask Billy Corgan if he likes this one! 4 - Interesting intro. Certainly some instruments on this one that I cannot confidently identify. This song wasn't really my jam. It was ok. 5 - Nice lullaby if you're in the mood for one. 6 - Tough to give this one a fair listen. To me, it has always been kind of goofy and silly. I can't really take it seriously. It used to actually bother me to listen to but now I am more neutral. 7 - A fine track 8 - Oh I like this one but I always forget about it. One of the standouts from this album for sure. 9 - Another one that I am familiar with and like but forget about! Is this the album of forgotten favorites? 10 - This is a nice one as well. I am swaying in my chair. I cannot remember if I've heard this one before but I'd never skip it. 11 - Oh we're rocking now. This one is a groove! 12 - Nice vocals. Did I catch some dissonance in the piano? I didn't like what I heard. I'm sure it is on purpose but the purpose eludes me. It messes up my enjoyment a bit. 13 - Oh I like this one. I almost get a Ben Folds Five vibe (specifically Reinhold Messner). I cannot put my finger on it. It may be the horns along with this general vibe. 14 - Some of track 4's instrumentation is back but more subtle. This song may be a bit too experimental for me but I respect it.
One of the few Beatles albums I don't think I've ever owned in any format. But still recognize every song.
Good album.
Mega classic... de bra låtarna är så bra att det inte är klokt. Ett par stinkers drar det ner till en stark fyra för mig.
Never listened to the Beatles before but they were good. Favorite song was Eleanor
A classic. Not the beatle's best album, but not far off.
Great album overall although I'm not a big Beatles fan.
I've always been of the mindset that you should never hold any artists to an insanely high standard just because of their name or their fame, or who they've influenced. All that has ever led me to is listening to music that I didn't really want to listen to. What matters far more to me, is how well an album has aged. And for an album that came out in 1966, this has most certainly passed the test. Now I haven't dipped my toes too far into the beatles discography. I love Abbey Road, listened to Sgt. Peppers many times and I'm not too fond of anything released prior Rubber Soul. But have been enjoying the guitar tones, melodies, and those heavenly harmonies on this album. An eargasm just on their own. And ringo can sing, no one can convince me otherwise.
solid stuff
You got a problem I've got a problem solver and the names revolver...ok that has nothing to do with this young upstart out of the United Kingdom that I feel like is going places! I don't think this band made a bad record and giving it anything less than 4 to 5 stars just feels like you're hating for no reason!
FUCK
