Reviews (page 5 of 14)

Raw. Some of the songs sound too much alike, but the great ones (Thunder Road, Born to Run, Meeting Across the River, Jungleland) are great.

Title track and Thunder Road undeniably go hard

It is a good album but I liked Born in the U.S.A way more

Great energy on this album. I've always loved the E-Street Band sax (s/o Clarence) Top tracks: Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, Born to Run

Classic Bruce. This album was his last chance to make something great before his label dropped him and he nails it. You can hear that desperation throughout the record and it just creates this energy that's hard to match.

Not in my top 3 bruces, which is sacrilege as I understand, but is in my top 5. Maybe at 5.

One of Springsteen's best albums, it's just banger after banger. My only real complaint is that it's only 8 songs long. Strong 8/10

Quality springsteen Album. Born to run is a great single. Very expressive

Very solid.

When I think of Bruce Springsteen, I think of this album. The rocking guitar and iconic saxophone built the backbone of the “Springsteen sound.” In tracks like Born to Run you can hear the emotion in Bruce’s vocals and giving his all with this performance. This may not be my favorite record from him but it’s definitely a classic for a reason.

I always heard about this album as being some kind of revelation to Rock & Roll. I think those people overhyped it. It’s a better than average rock album, but it’s not the greatest thing to ever be recorded. My favorite thing about this album was how much it very clearly inspired Brandon Flowers and the Killers. A lot of their work has that same Americana rock and roll feeling and it can very clearly be drawn back to artists like Springsteen.

Rock. Pretty good, sometimes great, but just missing something.

Synth!! Gold.plated diamond.encrusted horseshoe❤️

So theatrical lol

Bruce is pretty palatable under most circumstances. Lots of high points early on this record but it dips in quality just a bit after Born to Run. Last track closes strong.

Thunder Road was a good introduction to the album, overall a very upbeat album with great instrumentals, 4/5. Favourite song: Born to Run

A little to repetitive but overall great album with great songs

Not my favorite Bruce but still a great one

nice length. Good tunes

What an album. This album is a classic for a reason. It blends Springsteen's signature Americana biographical writing with production that takes inspiration from Phil Spector's Wall of Sound and it creates an album that is truly excellent. This is the album that would be Springsteen's critical and commercial breakthrough in the United States and what better album then to bring it with. Simply outstanding. Highlights: Thunder Road Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Born To Run Jungleland (that sax solo is stellar)

This is what I believe to be Bruces best album. The blues funky element was much more marked than later watered down crappy pop rock.

Honestly an absolutely amazing album, Born to Run is such a beautiful track with such an amazing meaning, I love the entire work, but overall I don't think it's Springsteen's best.

Me gustó mucho, tremendo instrumental en todas las canciones, en especial el piano, ufff. La voz de Bruce también me encantó

First time ever listening to this album. Pretty easy listen. Liked the last song.

Love how anthemic and energetic this album got at times as well as the variety of instrumentation on here. Not really what I gravitate towards (lots of this style of music sounds similar to me), but Springsteen's voice sets this apart. I'm glad I got to hear these tracks in their full context. Favorites: Night, Born To Run, Jungleland

Great album, but not really my thing.

Pretty good. It doesn’t fully align with my tastes but there’s a lot of undeniable greatness here to come back to. Favorite Songs: “Thunder Road”, “Meeting Across the River”, “Jungleland” Least Favorite Songs: “Night” Mid 4.

muy bueno

Ne hit 😮...

Lose the sax, Bruce

Great! 4/5

Great album! Really passionate energy, always loved Bruce though. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Backstreets, and Born to Run are some favorites of this album. I could listen to this album all the time, on a bus or while working. It just keeps you alive.

Brilliant :) Thunder Road easily goes down as one of the greatest American songs ever recorded

Some great songs

This guy does more than just model blue jeans, huh?

4.0 - Very Good

Loved it!

This is a great album. It’s gonna last me a long time.

I have never really devoted myself to Springsteen. But this time around I listened and read the lyrics and somehow 'got it'.

Jazzy feels, e sparkles effects. Vibes through and through, concordo c/ o hype. No entanto, o que me faz abrir os olhos e despertar do sonho é a falta de dicção e estar constantemente a cantar até lhe faltar o ar, como se aquelas palavras que não tivessem tempo próprio e lhe fossem escapar; em parte condiz c/ todo o tema de "seizing the moment" e "you only live once", but kinda makes it annoying...

Bossing it.

Great album - Thunder Road a classic and Born to Run a fantastic anthem as well - probably my favourite Boss album hard choice between 4 and 5!

I enjoyed this album more than Darkness On the Edge of Town.

Classics all day

Inspiring. Very saxophone-heavy though.

Knallskive. Tittelsporet e kanskje Springsteens beste låt? Helt der oppe i hvert fall.

Fajne. Lepsze niż myślałem. Mocne 4

Born to Run and Thunder Road were my favorites. IDK why. I'm new to this ok. 3.5/5

Great album. Incredible start and ending. It has 2 weak songs that feel forgettable, but the rest is awesome. I do feel like it’s a little too long. Fav Thunder Road Backstreets Born To Run Jungleland

Way better than Nebraska, pretty much on par with Darkness At The Edge Of Town. Overall I'm way more impressed with Springsteen than I thought I would be.

I don't know why expected something grand from this album because it's Bruce, but was overall fine

Probably my favorite Springsteen.

i really liked it, thunder road feels like a mix of elton john and bowie??? i love it

Pretty solid

Can't believe Im gonna say it, but i think I like Darkness more than this album, but it is still good!

There's really no bad songs here but the tentpoles of Thunder Road, Jungleland, and, to a slightly lower extent, Tenth Avenue Freesze-out and Born to Run are incredibly high. Only going 4 stars because it's not one of my absolute favorites but man it's close. Maybe later it will be

Bah franchement je trouve l'album super bien produit, je me suis demandé si c'était vraiment de 1975 genre c'est vachement clean, et je l'ai trouvé assez avant-gardiste. Bonne musique. Je connaissais pas du tout et j'aime bien

I haven't heard this in a looong time. ★★★★

Álbum muito bom e rico em detalhes. Energético e técnico. QoA Cloudscape.

Four stars for the sax solo on Born To Run.

A foundational rock album. Maybe a 5 star, but I need to listen to it more. Pitchfork: 10.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #21 Best Songs Thunder Road Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Backstreets Born To Run Jungleland

Some really good early Bruce.

okay i just forgot that i enjoy rock

What can I say, I'm from NJ.

No es particularmente mi estilo pero estuvo bien... Me gustaron las canciones "Backstreets" y "Born to run".

Always surprised by how sprawling and laid-back the E Street Band sounds. Even at the height of their stadium power and sheen, they could be just as easily sweating it out in a dive bar to dancing drunken patrons, and that's infinitely compelling.

It's like every song is the all out crescendo at the end of full concert set. Crazy how much intensity he can pack into each song, using horns and piano, and have the whole thing feel still feel so epic but still have a total runtime under 40 minutes. I have been pretty reluctant to get into Bruce Springsteen, the over the top USA branding he leans in to probably doesn't help, but this album totally challenged my pre-conceived ideas of his music. The was pretty enjoyable and not at all what I had expected.

Some obvious classic songs on here, but I thought the album overall didn’t sound very good - maybe just one of those times when this collection of songs is really better in a live setting

I realize it's odd to pick out one of the most famous albums of all time for this comment, but this is one of those albums that makes me glad I'm going through this project. In this case, it's because I don't think I'd ever listened to a full Springsteen album straight through, so this is giving me a better mental depiction of who this artist is. In my head, he was just straight up 80's rock and roll, like the Foo Fighters of his generation. After a couple full albums on here, I'm digging the variety with all the piano and sax rather than just a few guitars. There's much more depth and complexity than I would have expected from a Springsteen album a couple years ago. I feel kinda silly, to be honest. Anyway, good stuff. The lyrics often get lost, but the vocals are occasionally really powerful and the music is consistently good. Props to the E Street Band. Kinda wishing I had gotten into Springsteen when I was young so I could have seen him live when he was still in his 50's; I reckon they put on a good show. All I remember from the Super Bowl halftime show was the moment when he slid across the stage on his knees and booped the camera with his crotch. I have a vague recollection of it being a decent show, but when a guy slides his crotch into the camera on live TV it's hard to remember anything else. 4.2

I really liked this album. The energy is balanced. Feels almost curated.

A sleeper project. Consist all the way through

Actually better than I was expecting.

cool :)

this was my first time in a long time listening to this album start-to-finish, and I enjoyed it more this time around than I remember last time. obviously some massive songs on here that have held up well. I actually enjoyed the softer tracks a lot more than I remember, more so than the upbeat ones in most cases. also there's more synth and less saxophone from what I was expecting. for anyone else that likes the softer tracks here, I definitely recommend checking out the album "L'Amour" by Lewis. I'd love to hear Bruce cover Bjork's "Cover Me"

Steve McCaughan would kill me if I gave the Boss anything less than 4/5 ripped blue jeans.

I own this on vinyl. One of Bruce's best with a great gatefold cover picture

What I learned listening to this album is that it will take multiple listening. I'm adding to my rotation. Bruce has a distinct sound that captured the 1970s. I can't get enough of it.

A great, if over-the-top at times record. When it fully embraces the theatrical sound, with pianos, saxes etc, it almost feels like I should hate it - but it just works. The title track is wonderful.

I love classic Springsteen. He has better albums though.

Another solid album from Bruce.

Great start. Solid album overall. I vibe to it but it doesn't stand out much. Love the solo at the end. Jungleland has to be my fav song in the entire album.

The boss is boss la … as they say in Liverpool Bombastic Americana rock . Relies a little too much on the emotion in Bruce’s voice on occasion- making the lyrics hard to understand; so only know they are important due to how hard Bruce sings them.

Hyvä levy mutta ei paras. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cohesive and consistently engaging record where the Boss announces his oeuvre and delivers on each track with tight and thunderous instrumentation and vocals alike. Pretty much every track is a classic. "Born to Run" is a hallelujah of a rock song, and "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland" bookend the record as pillars of emotional, earnest songwriting.

Bueno definitivamente no me esperaba un album de este estilo, pense que tendria otros tipos de sonidos y realmente fue una experiencia placentera. Escuchado de 12pm a 1pm

It was fireee

Cool! Standout track: Born to Run

Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run (1975) On Day 58, Born to Run proved that the immense pressure Bruce was under to create marketable music really paid off. The album sounds incredibly good, showcasing high-level production capability and a triumphant energy that hits the brain just fine. Standout tracks like Born to Run, Night, Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, and the epic Jungleland really show off the band’s technical chemistry. While a couple of tracks like Meeting Across the River and Backstreets felt like the weaker links to me, the album as a whole is a strong, cinematic experience. A solid 4/5.

born to run (to turn it up!)

Great consistently rocking classic Springsteen. His second best album in my opinion. Favorite track: Jungleland

pub music

I feel the the album isn't made by any one or group of songs but how the whole thing invokes a vibe in me

Brilliantly earthy, lyrically dense, sneakily musical. Also, Bruce Springsteen sounds like drunk Elvis when he sings.

First half of this was decent but not great, everything born to run onwards is top tier stuff though

very good, classic

Pleasantly surprised, was not a big fan of the previous 2 Springsteen albums but this was a change of pace, enjoyed the songs and the songwriting

Such a beautiful and complex record. Some of my all time favorite song writing.

Love the power ballad ending. The piano send off absolutely sent me. Starts off strong and made me want to listen by a body of water.

The last part of Jungleland is cool. Also liked the classical sounds of Meeting Across the River.

Those jeans don't look very blue

I don't think I've ever listened to a Sprinsteen album cover-to-cover. This one is great. The title track really fucking does have it like that. Was happy to see it was a tight 40 at first, and partway through I thought to myself it could be longer and I wouldn't be mad, but then I was glad for the tight 40 in the end as it's a little overblown for me to take an especially high dose of it. I expect I'm gonna have to listen to between three and seven Springsteen records before the end of this. I've seen this cover a zillion times and only just realized that there's bandmate cropped out of it! Turns out the photo continues onto the reverse of the record. This must be a very cool thing to own in gatefold.

I can understand someone not liking Springsteen's voice, even though it's echoic, soulful and incredible. I can understand someone not liking ballads or the structures of large-ensemble bands. Musically he's just not for everyone. (What band is?) But if you don't like Springsteen cuz he's a "commie", you're a fucking pussy. One of the best albums of the 70's. One of the best American mainstream rock albums. Few songs are as powerful as "Backstreets" (top 3 Springsteen songs) or "Born To Run". "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" is a groove. Everyone song is bare-minimum Good, most of them Great. I prefer the darker, moodier Springsteen from Darkness On the Edge of Town, The River and Nebraska, but this is probably the album I'd give someone if they wanted to give Bruce a try. Fun fact: Scorsese's Taxi Driver has the iconic DeNiro line "You talkin' to me?" DeNiro had just seen a Springsteen concert where someone yelled "BRUCE!" And Springsteen nonchalantly said, "You talkin' to me?" That was the Born to Run tour. This album is a 5/5, but it's a personal 4/5.

-Bruce has so much passion in his voice -Amazing instrumentation in pretty much every track -Born To Run is a masterpiece -Jungleland is beautiful - unreal sax solo

His Live from Asbury Park is his definitive album for me, but this one is still a good listen. Clean and straight-forward. Such great tracks and before he got all full of himself. Not a perfect record, by any means, but significant.

Great rock. Classic record.

Sorry Bruce for always putting you in the same group as Bon Jovi. The album opens with so much energy and power in “Thunder Road.” It’s already better than anything Bon Jovi ever did. That momentum keeps going with songs like “Backstreets,” where Bruce sounds intense and fully committed. The lyrics are strong, even if I sometimes struggle to catch every word because of the twang and rasp in his voice. “Born to Run” is of course the highlight. It captures everything that makes him great: the huge vocals, the dense layers of instruments, and the theatrical, expressive delivery that keeps the song unpredictable from start to finish. It really feels like his masterpiece. I’m still not a Bruce Springsteen fan after listening to this album, but I’ve definitely gained respect and a better understanding of his music. 8.5/10.

A classic that ends with jungleland! What’s not to like

Bästa countryplattan jag hört på år och dar. Socialpolitiska anthems. Här återkommer jag gärna

Good, a bit repetitive, nice guitar and vocals

good album, "night" was a little more interesting, other than that, nothing stud out. 4

i wish country was still this good

I liked it but a lot of the songs sounded similar in a way where it all kinda blended together a bit

Vibess. I quite like this one, not perfect but probably something I'd relisten to, and I may aquire a few favourites from this particular artist

Bonus points for the political views.

Thenth Avenue freeze-out was my favorite of the whole album. I like the differentiationin in music. It wasn’t the same song seven times which is great in my book 8/10 album.

Now that's a fine album cover. Very early 2000s web graphics. This is one of my friends' favorite albums, so I like it too. Also very nostalgic. Much more enjoyable for me than Nebraska, sorry to say. Highlights: 'Thunder Road', 'Born to Run'

Is there a more intense 30 seconds in rock than those 30 seconds in "Born to Run" when he gives us that second countdown? It gets me everytime. I am ready to run with Bruce and Wendy. And how I wish I could hit that "Oh". He doesn't have a great voice, how does he hit that damn "Oh" like that? Anyway, great breakout album. So much passion, thoughtful sequencing, commercial but true to his art, an American masterpiece.

70’s Rock ⭐️Night

"Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" is amazing. Overall, a good album

"Here, stuff this in your pocket, it'll look like you're carrying a friend" - Springsteen Jungleland, dig it. What's this one? Oh, still jungleland?

yeah bruce

This is a great album by the Boss.

It's pretty solid. I don't mind it at all.

Another Springsteen album? Well once again I have been surprised and actually really like this. Might be my favorite out of the albums I've listened to so far by Springsteen.

Норм👍 7/10

I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul - one of the best lyrics even written.

Really enjoyed for my first listen

I wasn’t sure on first listen but by the third or fourth a lot of this had grown on me. Some very good songs on here and the album as a whole was a decent listen.

Gives Texas vibes

Some great tracks but overall I don’t put it above born in the USA

Never been a huge fan of Springsteen, but never really disliked him either. Of the albums of his that I've listened to, I'd say Born To Run is the one I'd be most likely to go back to. Some classics on here. "Thunder Road", "Meeting Across the River", and of course "Born To Run". Then finishing it out with the epic "Jungleland". Good stuff.

Never listened to a full Springsteen album before. Glad to get the experience.

Roadtrip across the USA vibes

Some bangers obv self titled but didn't grab me

q isso gente so 8 musicas FAVS (top 3): tenth avenue freeze-out, night, meeting across the river mençoes honrosas: backstreets, born to run, she's the one, jungleland compraria o vinil: SIM gente MEU DEUS q outro maravilhosa meu deus serio sao 9 minutos MUITO bons eu adorei muito meu deus eu amei esse fim, sao 8 musicas mas sao bem grandinhas achei bem legal pq msm curto é longo mas tb é mt bom hell yes nota final: 4.5/5

This is a real feel good album, thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. Simple, not too flashy, obviously not trying to be a total masterpiece and succeeding in doing so

This rock album combines piano-driven melodies with a wall-of-sound esque symphony of backing instruments, prominent among them organ and saxophone. Springsteen's voice is noticeably not as gravelly as later on in his career, but his classic enthusiasm mirrors perfectly the feel of "running" and "moving" driving the album.

It's good, but not my cup of tea. Bruce, I'll always respect ya and appreciate what you did for Jersey.

Jersey rock from the Boss. Sounds a bit different being older

Starting to understand the fascination with the Boss

Classic!!

A thrill and pleasure, though the title track is a little too much better than anything else, it's still exciting for as long as it lasts Not quite a 5/5, though its fresh sound of driven passion makes the future of music a better place, the songs don't always come together as lush and fully as they do at their peak

Of course it's good but like the fuck the sax

i didn’t realize he had so much piano in his songs. i really love the album perfect length and im glad i know more of his songs now rather than just his popular ones.

I’m going to be positive on this. Though Bruce can be a bit vocally one-dimensional.

I mean it's Bruce Springsteen. What's not to like.

was a fairly good album. Not his biggest fan though

Nicht so stark wie Nebraska. Aber total starker Sound

direct comparison with rising......yeah

Not really my jam didn’t enjoy it that much

Great album. Just not for me lmao.

Inoffensive but refreshing. Cucumber water rock

Some fantastic songs on this, it has a good solid theme throughout that holds it all together really well.

It's really good when he's not mumbling

Classic suburban rock opera

Great album

vibes based rating system carrying cause i dont remember what i listened to and just listened

Every time I listen to Springsteen I get the hype but I also feel like someone’s divorced father so maybe it’s a vibe thing That being said, really loved this album. I haven’t really hated anything I’ve heard so far from Springsteen so I guess I’ll keep diving but this one was fun!

Enjoyed it

I knew some songs

This album is American AF!!!!!! Fundamental, enjoyable and soulful. Great lyrics and music, almost perfect. Powerful and BIG sound! And it's so passionate. I definitely need more music like that in my playlist. We have 4 more Bruce Springsteen albums in the list, so I'm glad it's not the last time we'll meet in this challenge. I listened to the album twice and I'm not sure, but it can be 5 out of 5 in the future. But now it's solid 4/5 —————————————— Liked: — Thunder Road — Night — Born to Run — She's the One

Is this our first Springsteen entry? I think it is. I LIKE (don't love) most of Springsteen's stuff but this would be my favorite of his. I have no problem with The Boss but I just never got why people go so nuts over him, even after seeing him live (and everyone assured me I would "get it" when I saw him live.) Not sure why but his music just never clicked with me. That probably means I could never be a sportswriter. This album is a classic though, and deserves all its accolades. I can't personally give it a 5 but it's very close. And that is saying quite a lot with my general Springsteen attitude.

Already had listened to a majority of songs on the album in the past but listening all the way through was great. Bruce is an amazing artist and the instruments on his albums always add so much.

I really dislike Bruce Springsteen. This is a pretty great album.

Sehr cooles Album mit cooler Hintergrundgeschichte, "audiophil" betrachtet nicht sooo spannende aber dennoch einiges zu hören, wie das Saxophon Solo.

His lyrics are so personal but so universal. One of the greatest American songwriters

absolutely incredible i love the synthesizer and the brass family of instruments

I liked it

Yeah this would hit live

Listening to the first few tracks I thought I detected a Jim Steinman vibe but it turns out I got it wrong way round Jim Steinman was influenced by Springsteen, especially this album. Also two members of the E street band played on both Born to Run and Bat out of Hell. The popular tracks are classics and I enjoy, a few of the other tracks are good too. Some have a very live almost stage performance music feel to them, like this is a soundtrack to a musical in parts, maybe this adds to the Steinman vibe.

Just so good.

Bruce is someone I like seeing in concert, but don't ever put on their albums. Not sure how much of this rating is tied to nostalgia of scream-singing Thunder Road and Born to Run with friends for the last 20 years.

Elton John for the working man. Fun album start to finish. Nothing life changing but understandable why people like it. “Jungleland” is a standout track despite ripping of “Tiny Dancer”

Great fun for a morning after work, classic Americana, all out good vibes throughout. Man myth and utter legend

Only heard the title track before. The rest of the album sounded exactly as I expected it to. What I did not expect was the extent to which I would enjoy it.

LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL

Was this the album that influenced Meat Loaf?

A solid album by a true American artist

I don't know if I'm gonna start listening to Springsteen or anything, but this is pretty darn good. Nice music, nice vocals, catchy. Solid stuff. "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run" stand out I guess. Most of it is a little samey to me.

Classic, four absolutely legendary songs. Clarence sounds great on this

Normally not a Bruce Springsteen fan, but I enjoyed this one

Pop folk. Dude is a billionaire now.

Enjoyed this, some tunes I knew, some I didn't. Not necessarily a fan of the whole album though

Good to get to some 70’s Bruce. Thunder Road the opener is a cracking track and showcases what Bruce does so well - deceptively deceptively simple stories in his lyrics where there is amazing detail in the narrative that allows you to picture the scene. His influence is huge - The Hold Steady guy has a similar ability and i suspect was massively influenced by Bruce.

Only Springsteen album I like. Clarence rocks!

Since Springsteen is millennial "dad rock," I've kind of considered him a little cheesy, but I enjoyed this.

Oh, I actually like this! Much more listenable than I expected, especially in comparison to Nebraska. The saxophone is dope.

This had me running down the Backstreets in the middle of the Night. As though I was in Jungleland

Love the piano heavy aspect of this album. Stand out songs: Thunder Road Backstreens Born to Run Jungleland

A treasure. Probably best consumed in one sitting. But the singles are amazing and timeless.

Kind of stupid but I loved returning to it. I find it does what it sets out to do very well. Nostalgic yearning built into the musical structures. Some fun instrumentation. I didn't get bored.

Another win from The Boss! This one, being from the mid-seventies, relies more on horns and strings to craft its expansive heartland rock sound than the synths and booming drums of Born in the U.S.A., but it sounds just as full of (and larger than) life. Bruce is once again a master storyteller, weaving narratives of desperation and escape. There truly, truly is a reason he's one of the greats. Also, he looked really hot in the photo shoots for this album

There are surely a number of stories and lyric interpretations that I missed while listening here, but that just means I'll be happily revisiting down the line. Musically, more than a few tracks floored me; Springsteen does the grandiose piano-and-horns sound so freaking well it hurts. The sheer emotion with which he sings on tracks like She's The One and Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out is remarkable, and Jungleland is just about the perfect closer to it all. Very high 4 for an album that might just have made Springsteen click for me. Standouts: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out • Born To Run • She's The One • Meeting Across The River • Jungleland

Favs: Thunder Road Born To Run Jungleland Least Fav: She's The One

Really love the lyrics (I'd heard the classics before, of course). Nice storytelling. Very cinematic. But not my favorite sound.

Powerful energy, feels like a live album. Sometimes magic, sometimes annoyingly so. Sounds modern (or timeless?) for the 70s. Probably need a re-listen to catch the lyrics.

39:23 (8 tracks) - third album by Springsteen Fully recognizable songs and I felt the sum of the whole was actually greater than the sum of the parts. I've always felt Born to Run was a little too over celebrated, but the other songs are also classics and I really enjoyed 9:34 Jungleland far more than I thought I would. Pleasantly surprised to give this album a 4.

The boss

Surprised I'd never heard this album before. Really enjoyed it.

Je n’avais jamais pris le temps d’écouter Bruce Springsteen, et j’ai eu tort!

Almost a 5, some great tracks on here

Classic

Oloco gostei hein álbum bom, porém duas músicas chatas estragaram. 8

Always wanted to enjoy this album but it sounds so overproduced and dense. Prefer 'The River' as my favorite Springsteen album. Would love to hear a re-mixed version of this album where the instrumentation is not so buried. Still it is consider a classic and belongs on this list.

A classic for a reason

Not my favourite Boss album but one that I’ve played many times and always delivers on fun. Can be overly bombastic on times and doesn’t deliver on the more considered introspection he creates on work like The River or Nebraska, but I enjoyed it.

It’s epic, it’s patriotic, it’s Bruce and though the music is top notch and driving, I have an aversion to Mr. Springsteen’s voice. This is because I drove my friend from Chicago to Philly. Gave him control of the radio and he just blasted Da Boss the entire trip. I started to he nauseous near the end.

Toppen, toppen album! Inget mindblowing, men bara allmänhet ett rejält bra album med mycket känsla och mycket bra produktion

Pretty good album. Well written songs, they do all sound similar however.

Mieux que l'autre.

A true groundbreaking record... nothing from around this time sounds like it. While it's not completely my thing, I recognize just how important this record is to rock & roll. BRUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!

This is definitely classic Bruce Springsteen, but I have to say it was a little more energetic than I was expecting. It also has a grandiose sound that feels like it pulls from baroque pop influences. I’d have to say the piano and organ were my favorite elements. They both played a key role in giving the entire album that youthful, energetic, and cinematic feel.

Not as good as Born In The U.S.A. I'm a sucker for a sax but it always makes me link Bruce to Sam Fender. Definitely influential. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.

Best Track - "Born To Run"

listened to this in my math 34a class and enjoyed it but it def needs a relisten i fear. this isn’t rlly my style but lemme give it a chance one day (not today im so sorry bruce)

I really can't stand Bruce Springsteen but I will give credit where credit is due. This album is a standout. The title track is about as perfect a song can be. The highlight for me, however, is "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out." The horns and fat saxes of the Brecker brothers and David Sanborn joining Clarence Clemons just pushes this song over the top. Can't be beat. Lyrics on the album are great but Bruce is just too damn shouty. He gives me a headache. The real star is Roy Bitton! His piano work on this record shimmers. Roy on piano and Clarence on sax can save just about any song. "Backstreets" and "She's the One" for example, would work just fine as instrumentals. Great band. The epic 9+ minute Jungleland is one of the best closers of any album.

Much prefer the early Boss over the later stuff like "The Rising." 3.5, but rounding up since there are a few bangers here.

Undeniably great album. So many hits. Holds up to the test of time.

Never a Bruce fan, but this a must album for the 1001 Must Hear List. T’was huge when it was released, it’s better now than when it dropped. Actually enjoyed the listen, which is surprising for a Springsteen album. (4.2*s) OK - I’ll go see him live when he plays the OC Fair and you get the tickets.

Loved this! Haven't listened to any Springsteen before but I'm looking forward to more. Good variety of sounds and solid songs themselves

Jungleland is good I guess

Enjoyable. A few classics songs.

Great album. Have it on vinyl. Played it back to back

Like the compositions and lyrics from what I heard but wasn't a huge fan of Bruce's singing.

Great album - I really enjoyed hearing it again. Great production, really sounds timeless. This album and Darkness on the Edge of Town are my favorite Springsteen albums

Songs are a bit similar sounding but I still enjoyed the lyrics and sound. Favorite songs: Born to Run, Jungleland

The Boss is back! A little more experimental, possibly rawer, than Made in the USA, this Album I feel panders a bit less towards Americana, but is still solidly a working class album.

Great, but I’ve never been a big fan

O mesmo que o último álbum, um 3,5 era mais adequado

Life-affirming, big, tight band. I like the boss better when he is a little softer and sadder, but this is full of absolute bangers

A classic of what I'd call “Dad Rock”. This album is theatrical, bold and a genuinely iconic collection of 70s rock hits. Born To Run is definitely the highlight, but the rest of the album maintains the brilliant wall of sound, cinematic instrument arrangements and passionate vocals/lyrics. In a way it makes you feel ambitious and driven after listening, largely because of Springsteen’s huge delivery.

I have this on Japanese vinyl, which I gotta say usually adds clarity to the mix, but as the mix of this album blairs eveything across the midst, it still sounds muddled. The one thing about this pressing you can really hear Gary Tallent clearly (not much crowding that space). This album is really Springsteen coming into his own songwriting wise. But listening to this just reminds me how much better, "Thunder Road", Tenth Avenue Freeze Out", "Backstreets", "Born To Run", "She's The One" and "Jungleland" sounds on *Hammersmith Odeon '75* Clarence gets buried in the mix these tracks. But live, he cut through like a knife with all his grit passion. The one song that doesn't drown in its own production is "Meeting Accoss The River" which is stripped down to just piano, bass, & vocals with a light trumpet accent. It make that song pop out on this where the meat of this album doesn't. I'm going to give this a low to moderate 4½ for mainly the songwriting, but also for my two real highlights "Meeting Across The River" and "Jungleland", the only song that really plays with dynamic range, plus you can really hear Clarence Clemons cut through on his part on that one, which he is my absolute favorite sax player, so anytime he gets to shine it's going to be one of my favorite moments. 9.35 ★★★★½

A mostly very good album. The title song is a complete classic, main perennial radio hit and overpoweringly best song here. Also some mighty purdy moments with Meet Me Across The River and She’s The One. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out is a nice steady toe tappity number as well with perky cool Brecker Bros horns. Everything else here is good up to a point but was born to walk so Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf could run. Somewhere between a high 4 stars and low 4.5.

Own it. Some classics. Hardly ever listen to it. Not sure how much of a Springsteen fan I am. Still a great album

Ordinarily I don’t think I’d enjoy this much piano and sax, but the E Street Band really makes it work. Growing up, the Greatest Hits (1995) album was one of the few that was on permanent rotation in our van’s 6-CD changer. I prefer that to this. Born to Run is really good, but some of the non-hits don’t hit hard enough to merit a 5. So it gets a 4/5 for me.

Probably my favorite Springsteen album

You definitely get the sense of Americana behind the sound of this album. It feels very lived in. Like getting a glimpse into a stranger's story, and you feel closer to them because of it. While I can't say it's an album I'll continually revisit, there are some tracks on here that are more than satisfying. Mostly what works on this album is the instrumentation and the lyrics. The songs are incredibly poetic, and the rhythms ride the line between pop and rock and roll that they sort of blend into the background. That's both the good and bad of the album. It's not distinct enough musically, but the storytelling is. It's not an album you can just listen to; it's one you have to pay attention to, and that's good in substance, but maybe not so much in style.

When did he start singing like he smokes 18 cigarettes at a time? If you told me Billy Joel wrote Thunder Road, I’d believe you. Not just because of the involved piano track, but the storytelling lyricism that is very Billy. I’m not complaining at all, I think that’s why I like it so much. Even the melodic choices are very Billy-esque. As I listen to this album, I’m wondering why I’ve never really listened to Bruce much in my life. I really do enjoy this! It’s definitely not out of the realm of what I would normally would be listening to but just never crossed my path before. It’s 1975 - so the sound scape of the time is some of my faves. The use of piano and saxophone in rock music makes me so happy! A lot of these songs play out like the background of a fun round trip. I can’t wait to explore it more.

As much as I hate that he thinks he is important enough to be political, this is still a classic album

Forrest Gump would have loved this.

Bruce's energetic rock

fav tracks: "10th Avenue Freeze Out" and "Born to Run" The sax really ties this all together. *chef's kiss*

First track had me skeptical but after listening to this all the way through I can safely this was a great listen! Springsteen's star power is clearly evident and the boisterous production backs him up beautifully. You got some incredible sax playing all throughout the album and as well that wonderful accompanying piano. He's giving it his all from start to finish, never a dull moment. This was a great pleasure to listen to. Top 5: Thunder Road, Backstreets (fav), Born To Run, She's The One, and Jungleland 4.25-4.50/5

A classic Springsteen. A must for any collection

Super solid album

It's the Boss, what more can I say? This is a great album. Born to Run was an anthem for me a couple years ago and I still love it. I hadn't listened through the rest of the album before, but it's great. The saxophone is amazing!! 8.5/10

Super classic album. I really enjoyed listening through this album. Some absolute classics and some songs I've never heard

Yeee Bruce Spingsteen. First time listening to Bruce, good stuff. Favorite song was Born to Run. 7.5/10

Great rock album, big sound, and classic Springsteen

Love this album - a true classic from the Boss. Thunder Road is one of my favorite songs of his and this album is spun often in our house. 4/5

Nostalgic album. Good songs

I don't usually dive much deeper than his hits, but Bruce is Bruce... They call him The Boss for a reason. Every album of his is probably worth a listen cover to cover.

I liked it but there's something that didn't sound quite right for me - I'm blaming my speakers. Would like to revisit! 4

I enjoyed this album a lot! I'd listen to it again happily. I was surprised to be a Springsteen fan XD

1st half is way better than the last half. Great album though. I see why Meatloaf ripped it off, lol

Love the title song.

Not my favorite Springsteen album but still worth a listen.

First Springsteen album i've ever heard. I appreciate the album more on 2nd listen when looking at the lyrics. First listen, I was impressed with how great the band was, and very mixed on Bruce. Lyrics are a bit hard to follow without reading them. Band is just awesome. Back before the days of synth and digital mixes, it's awesome to hear proper full band rock out. Harmonica, Sax solos, very different from rock today. I'm not sure how I feel about Bruce. On some tracks his voice is ok, but others it just sticks out way too much and doesn't fit. Like Randy Newman doing rock. Anyway this album was I guess Springsteen's real "coming out" album and I can see how it would connect with a younger generation from it's storytelling. I like that the album doesn't focus so much on success with money and relationships, but more so on taking chances, and with that there is success and failure. In this regard I liked Thunder Road, Backstreets and Meeting Across the River, and Night. Thunder Road - Asking the girl to take a chance and go make their own lives together elsewhere. Backstreets - 2 friends that just kind of lost their friendship over time and missing that old connection. Meeting Across the River - Down on his luck criminal just wanting the chance for that big score to make it. Just a cool perspective. Night - Work sucks. We're all just working away for that bit of time to enjoy our lives. Overall it's a great album, but something about Springsteen bothers me and I can't quite pinpoint it. It almost feels like a curated album to brute force Springsteen into success. Maybe because i'm not a huge fan of his singing (yelling?) and the E Street Band is awesome and overshadows Springsteen...in my opinion.

Very infectious album to listen to that just makes you feel good. Not the biggest fan of Springsteen's vocals, but there is something interesting about them that works in the context of his music. Overall, very enjoyable, with the standout being Born to Run Itself, which is just a fantastic piece of music that Inplannto be listening to well into the future.

I don’t know why but I expected it to sound like Top Gun. It didn’t. I could never really understand what he was saying but I definitely enjoyed the vibe even though his voice kind of annoyed me. I liked the piano introductions. Adding it to my running playlist immediately 7.3/10

This is so fun! Wanna jump around and laugh like I’m in a cheesy commercial or the “getting ready” opening sequence in a romcom. The horns, the piano, the strings, all of it just made this so enjoyable. Very much feel like this whole album could be the score of a movie on its own. The only thing is his voice is a little bit harsher than I usually like, but it works for him in some of the songs. 8/10

I always had a weak spot for The Boss. it started back in 1984, when I was only ten, with Born in the USA. my next album (or actually box) were his live recordings from 1975-1985. From here my journey to his older work began, and although this is not my personal favourite album of the early seventies, it shows his master craft and his determination to make that one million record selling album. Which he did. Still, a great listen to me, albeit sometimes a little to overproduced for my liking, but still with great tracks, like "Jungleland" or the little hidden gem "meeting Across the River" apart from of course "Born to Run" itself. 4/5

This album exhibits yearning and romanticizing for me, I love the nostalgia feel this album gives. Gritty, honest, like I’m being told a story in these songs. Can’t do halves for stars so my real score is 4.5/5 stars :)

What a great album, would hate, if they made a cringy hollywood movie about the creation process.

Fantastically done album by Springsteen

Asi ok ale príde mi to moc americke

Not my kind of music but I really enjoyed his voice.

Amazing record by the boss!

4.5. Класика Крутий альбом, Брюс тут дуже щиро звучить.

Pleasantly surprised by this album overall. The bands story telling and sound was very good.

The Boss didn’t disappoint in this album

This probably would've been a 5 if he had the vocal control of his later albums like Nebraska or Born in the USA. Alas, he did not at this point and that kinda hurt the rating here. His storytelling is immaculate, hurts and makes it feel real and yet joyful in a howling at the moon sort of way. Also the random saxophone solos in every song was great, for many other artists it would feel cheesy and forced. This man has earned his reputation and respect.

What a great album. Thunder Road is among the best. The rest of it is good. The album might be short, but it doesn't waste a minute.

Such a banger.

Good album. Great album? It does one thing and does it pretty well, which is be a Bruce album. Born to Run and Thunder Road are great singalongs, the energy is high, the lyrics evocative, the E street band all blasting away, but there's nothing that makes this more than what it is. I like it. Do I love it? I dunno - it manages to be only 40 minutes and feel longer, which isn't necessarily a negative but something I think about. Also, sometimes: too much piano makes me think of Billy Joel. So it gets dinged, even if that means my wife divorces me.

A classic

This is the first Springsteen album that got me to start listening seriously to what he was doing. Great music, great writing and seriously great rock’n’roll.

An absolute classic

Love Springsteen so close to a 5 the songs are just a bit too similar.

I wasn’t super familiar with Bruce Springsteens game outside of his blockbuster hits. Getting a little deeper dive I get it. Yes sometimes it sounds like he’s got sand in his mouth but man it works.

A very Americana album. Wants me make a hot dog real bad.

heard this once or twice before this came up as my album for today, but i'll listen again for rating purposes Thunder Road - 5/5 Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - 4/5 Night - 4/5 Backstreets - 4/5 Born to Run - 5/5 She's the One - 3/5 Meeting Across the River - 3/5 Jungleland - 5/5 Average score: 4.1/5

Pretty good there are some fantastic songs and some alright songs. Enjoyed it

This is my second Springsteen album in three days. This is far better than Born in the USA. A lot of genuinely good songs on this one.

that’s my goat

very good

Not much new to say about this one. Just a classic.

Lot of bangers on this one

Off the cuff remark: I so much want to like Springsteen more than I do. Love, what I know of, his attitude and politics and he has some genuinely great / classic songs but in all honesty a whole Springsteen album is something I enjoy but doesn't set me on fire. This is no exception. Standout track: Born to Run (obviously) but I also like Meeting Across the River Revisit?: I have most Springsteen albums and revisit each time wanting to like more than I do. Expect I will again.

To open an album with a harmonica intro is audacious. It’s raw, it’s emotional. But ultimately it’s Bruce. Classic album. Meeting across the river possibly one crossing too much. Brought back with the crescendo of jungleland. The classic born to run the holding the middle of the album together.

Oh this was brilliant!!
