Reviews (page 7 of 13)

More like Hit Factory: Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, and Long As I Can See The Light are punch perfect. I wasn't familiar with the extended songs, Ramble Tamble and the Grapevine cover, and they were also excellent. (R T is late Beatle-ly to great effect.) I still can't believe how good these guys sound when they only played together 5 years.

Good band yes

I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the tape deck, though. Or the Creedence.

Same as my review for Green River, it's a 4/5.

My dad listened to a lot of Creedence when I grew up so I did as well. A lot of it is very nostalgic to me and those songs still hit hard. The others not so much. Its still good music though so while I wont skip songs i might just play a best of album instead of this next time.

‘Murica!

Their best album

Love it

Decent ram ranchin knee slappin album. Finished stronger than it started. Best songs: who’ll stop the rain, I heard it through the grapevine.

How can you go wrong with CCR? You can't. This album is packed full of catchy tunes. Easy listening, good for a roadtrip. 9 put of 10 for me.

You’d think this was a greatest hits record if you didn’t know better. Some of Creedence’s best work from start to finish, my only complaint with the track listing is that there are three 12-bar blues songs in a row, and even though they are unique from each other, it feels a bit much as 2 of those three are the weakest on the album, but the rest of it is so incredible and those 2 tracks still have great stuff going on. Tracks like Who’ll Stop the Rain and I Heard It Through The Grapevine make me wish that the band sang with each other more often instead of just John harmonizing with himself, even though that works well, the different voices sound great together. John’s voice is amazing and the band plays tightly as always, and I really like the introduction of keys and sax to their sound, which would continue to be utilized on the follow up. I find it surprising how you don’t hear music nerds and critics talk about CCR too much now as they were the biggest band in America at one point and their music is great and still gets regular classic rock radio play. 4/5

Really enjoyed this album didn’t sound overly produced, almost sounded like a live album

CCR in this album are fearless, you can hear so many influences in each song and boy do they deliver all of them so good! The songs that really made it to my heart mostly are: Ramble Table is one of the best Rock songs i've ever listened especially when it shifts by slowing down at 1:53 and 'till 5:32 where they speed up again ,one of my favourites of all times, the most interesting 7:11 i've ever listened! Who'll stop the Rain, great song, I heard it Through the Grapevine cover( after Glady's Knight first original and Marvin Gaye's treatment) is amazing, showing their Motown influences,John Fogerty's deliver is absolutely fantastic, the heavy bass and drums and the guitar makes this a timeless version with respect, Long as i can see the Light.Fogerty's vocals here can show his ''black'' influences, what a voice! Great album but overall it's a 4/5 for me.

I thought I had been burned out on CCR, but I really liked this album, mainly because of the quality of the tunes that had not been played to death over the last 50 years.

Tommel opp

Perfectly enjoyable. Nothing crazy or experimental just a very solid rock album.

Damn good rock, genuinely enjoyed it.

This was a killer album. Not a substandard track on it ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

I've never wanted to ride on one of those boats with a massive fan on the back more than when listening to this. Swampy as fuck.

Not a bad album. CCR is a little much for me, though. Gotta take them in small bites. This album has some iconic songs on it though.

Lookin Out My Back Door, what a song! Really glad to get this album, what a ripper.

'Cosmo's Factory', Creedence's first record of the 70s, sees them complete a phenomenal streak of five albums that turned the El Cerrito quartet into one of America's brightest lights in the late 60s. Packed full of plenty of their best-known songs (Up Around the Bend, Looking Out My Back Door, Who'll Stop the Rain, Travelin Band), 'Cosmo's Factory' is essentially CCR (and John Fogerty in particular) in peak form, adventuring into R&B, soul and country while staying true to their core roots rock sound. This adventure is most evident on the two longer songs on the album: the psychedelic-tinged 'Ramble Tamble' and an 11-minute cover of the Motown standard 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine'. While both these songs serve as CCR attempting to break free of their regular "hit making" aesthetic, the lengthy instrumental passages tend to meander along without any real purpose other than to showcase John Fogerty's sound lead riffs. While the adventure is welcome, it only shows that CCR are probably more suited to the tightly constructed rock songs, in which their skill is unrivalled by many other American rock acts of the time. Britain was dominating the rock airwaves by this point, and CCR were an interesting outlier at a time, largely avoiding the acid-tinged counter-culture sound of many of their US contemporaries (The Doors, MC5, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead). So when CCR go and try to be experimental in the same vein as those aforementioned bands, it kind of comes across as trying to join the bands they were adamant on standing out from. Which is what makes the shorter tunes on this album so effective. CCR's strength is in warm and concise "swamp rock", and 'Cosmo's Factory', while not shying away from adventure, is at its strongest when it showcases what CCR do best. 4/5

I do love some CCR. Run Through The Jungle is a top for me. Plus great covers on here.

Had never listened to this one all the way through, but enjoyed it. A little jammier than I expected from CCR, but still good! Highlights: "Travelin' Band" and "Long as I Can See The Light"

Making 'simple' songs sound so vital and alive is no small task. Enjoyed this listen, haven't heard a lot of these songs in years. "Who'll Stop The Rain?" still can stop me in my tracks. I don't usually go for extended editions and bonus tracks but noticed that Booker T and the MGs are on a bonus track of "Born On The Bayou", Had to give that a listen and I wasn't disappointed.

Really great blues record! Vocals are top-notch, fun riffs... what's not to love?

Ashamed to say i've never heard of Creedence Clearwater Revival, but WTF 28.1 mln monthly listeners?! And i get it, really liked the album. Loved every song. Only thing is, its not really my genre, so i probably won't listen to it again, so i cant give it a 5/5

I didn't know this band and it's just yet another example of how great the 60s and 70s were. I'm always amazed at how much good music was produced during this period

Love me a ramble ramble, some good fun driving music

A cut above the other CCR albums I’ve listened to. It’s higher energy and got some real muscle in it. Also less uniform overall. The production and mixing is a lot better here as well.

For some reason this one took me a long time to crack but goes surprisingly comfortable today for a 55 year old record.

Das Album war super und ist mit den bekannten Oldies verdientermaßen eine LP in dieser Liste

4.0 - Very Good

CCR has a unique ability to transport you to a road house on the side of a highway in Louisiana, where you can get cheap beer and groove out while you hope that cops don’t break up the party. What’s more impressive is that they can achieve that, despite themselves being from San Francisco. Fun listen. Strong A Side AND B Side

What a classic this is! It's great that it's included on this list. It's a pity they were so successful just before "my time."

You can't go too wrong when half the album winds up on Chronicle.

Going through some of the albums I skipped initially. In general I don't love Creedence's sound, but the energy on this is pretty infectious.

Very good album and I don't really like CCR all that much.

do you like rolling southern blues rock? Because thats what you're getting whether you like it or not. Not their best but still a pretty good time, I always picture a life I've never lived, life in a small town sitting on a back porch, cruising in a banged up pickup to the local watering hole. The hits here are bangers, the rest of the album doesnt quite match up though.

This is another album I grew up with. I haven’t revisited it a ton. Opening track fucking hits as do several others. Really rocking album,

Just shy of a 5, I think. There's a lot of quality material here but the highlight for me was their excellent version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." Not sure what's going on with the album cover here - it doesn't fit my image of this group at all, especially the yellow clown balloon font.

Just top notch stuff. Real classic rock. Almost any CCR album comes close to a greatest hits record.

Classic musicans training recording. Most musicians learned these tunes and licks. We used them in the 70s.

several bangers on this will never not love any rendition of Grapevine, although the 11 minute version is really stretching it (haha) 4/5

Very good chill music. 69 Charger rolling down the highway babeh RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

So fucking good First part is like "oh you liked the energy of the previous song? Wait till you hear THIS shit". Middle is a bit forgettable to me, but maybe just headspace. Last part comes back strong. Overall amazing

Ooby dooby was annoying but otherwise solid album

Enjoyed this album. Over 50 years old and perhaps sounds a little dated, but no matter, still some great songs. Particularly liked .... Up around the bend . .. Who'll stop the rain .... Long as I can see the light However 11 minutes of "I heard it through the grapevine" got a bit tedious.

Man… what’s more American than CCR? And what’s more American than a band imploding because one guy insisted on steering the ship while everyone else wanted to be collaborators instead of a backing group? It’s mythology-level stuff at this point. The irony, of course, is that the dysfunction doesn’t dilute an ounce of how absurdly good they were. This record has that unmistakable CCR gravity—John Fogerty’s voice cutting straight through the mix, the band locked in with that swamp-rock precision, every track sounding like it’s been road-tested on a highway at dusk. It’s a shame they never found a way to keep it together, because Cosmo’s Factory feels like a peak that could’ve been an era. You can’t help but imagine what they might have made if the chemistry and the egos had aligned instead of colliding.

This album has a lot of songs you've heard on it. Most of them could be classified as bangers from the '70s. Worth a spin.

Fun album, backed with really strong guitar and percussion. Not many notes, just an overall good time.

It has some great songs, but honestly they all sound too similar. I like everything about every song though. Nothing bad about this album. Just there's also nothing in this album that makes me too excited. It's really solid and I hope to listen to these songs another time.

Good mid classic rock

Really quite enjoyed this. Some great songs here, and seems to capture an energy that I feel like some rock albums of the era lack

I did not know so many of CCR's most famous songs came from this album. A solid album. Favorites: Ramble Tamble, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Who'll Stop the Rain Would I listen to it again: Yes

I realy like this, just like other CCR records. Favorite track- Run Through The Jungle

bring back doing the ooby dooby

can't say CCR invented southern rock, but they certainly perfected it. some classics on this record.

Absolutely classic album by a group at the height of their powers!

Awesome, I didn’t look at the track list when I started this up and it’s just hit after hit. Classic Credence.

I've never listened to Creedence before, but I've heard a few of these tracks, though. Great fun, a somogesboard of country, rock and roll, motown, protest rock. 4

⭐︎4.3 全米一位を獲得したCCRの名盤。 シングルヒットは少ないが、印象に残る曲がちらほら。 長尺の曲が一曲だけあってドラマ性がある。飽きのこないアルバムだなと言う印象。

A classic album, where even the songs that didn't become hits are still good. One of those early albums you can listen and enjoy all the way through. Good, classic, '70s rock-blues-country.

Ta around the bend daina visai nieko, overall neblogas pasiklausymas, neprailgo, kaip 1970 labai atitinkantis catchy albumas.

Solid album. My favourite is Up Around The Bend. One of the most fun songs we've interpolated with our band.

Not bad. Some great songs here. Probably high 3 to 4 stars.

kinda fucking sick. really like Ramble Tamble, Travelin Band, Ooby Dooby.

I’m not overly familiar with CCR except for a few select songs, so this was a great occasion for me to finally catch up. What a great find ! It’s an excellent blues rock (or swamp rock ?) album that kept me interested from start to finish. For an album made in 1970, it sounds amazingly atemporal, with influences going back to the early 60s and some very modern-sounding tracks. Not necessarily my favorite kind of rock, but they have an energy and an authenticity that make me crave for more. I’ll definitely come back to this album (and the rest of their discography). Hard choice between a 4 and a 5* - ideally I’d give it a 4,5*.

This is a classic "ride around with your friends and get into some trouble" album for us Gen-Xers.

Really enjoyed this - knew a few songs but never listened to the album on a run. Extra star for helping, in some way, add a musical layer to ‘the dude’.

Knew far more songs than I realised and a great album

So many hits

Loved it! Always a fan of CCR.

Fun album Come classics.

Ungewöhnlich, dass ich soviele Titel auf einer Platte kenne, die ich nicht selber im Regal habe. Das hat wohl seinen Grund.

Ccr stays excellent in their later work. Though its missing soms hits for me it's still very good

Last CCR album, I believe I said that it’s not great to hear more than three CCR songs in a row. I’ll take that back, this is a good CCR album as a whole. I do think it’s offputting that Fogerty is a Northern California guy and puts on that voice but whatever, it sort of works and CCR is good.

Great album with several of their greatest hits. Ramble Tamble is unnecessarily long and Ooby Dooby is a skip. But a great CCR album

Incredibly listenable. The hits are good, the deep tracks are good, everything is good. Not a ton of transcendent moments, in my opinion, but loads of good ones and few to no dead spots.

That guitar tone fucks I get these guys now

Хороший рокешный альбом с оочень длинными песнями. Не мое любимое, но приятное

Really good album. Quite a few classic tunes on this one.

Great album classic songs

Just discovered the track Ramble Tamble and it’s awesome. Overall, that’s not my favorite CCR album, but it goes down easy, like always with them. Just the right mix of blues, soul, and rock, with a bit of Marvin.

I was expecting to not enjoy this albm as much as I did. I used to listen to a LOT of CCR back in high school, but more recently stopped because I wasn't enjoying the sound of his voice anymore, it was a little too gritty and almost shrill. So I went into this not looking forward to having to listen to a whole album. Thankfully, I remembered why I used to love CCR so much! The production on this album is so well done, the instrumentals are great, and the songs that have longer instrumental riffs don't overdo it. Very balanced. Lookin out my Back Door, Heard it Through the Grapevine, Who'll Stop the Rain, and Long as I can See the Light are some of my favorites.

C'est CCR. 4.49 étoiles parce qu'y'a "juste" la moitié des tounes qui sont des hits.

Really good rockabilly

The building ups on the tracks here are awesome. It scratches the same thing in my brain that adores doom, noise and sludge. Repeated musical motifs across this whole thing. Unfortunately very front loaded 8/10

Really solid rock and roll album. Ramble Ramble and Through the Grapevine are great. My only problem is that I've heard the hits of this album so much that I don't really enjoy those songs anymore. I can also see this being conservative music 8/10 Favourite: Ramble Tamble Least Favourite: Rum Through the Jungle

When I saw this was my album for today, I thought, "Ugh. I don't like CCR." But I discovered that I *do* like CCR after all. This is a great album, full of really strong tunes. I even enjoyed their "Heard it Through the Grapevine" cover, which is a song that usually makes me gag. I would listen to this album again for sure.

Really good album. It seems I like CCR more when it deeper cuts and not the singles/radio hits. Enjoyed the bluesy vibe and the longer songs. I would listen to this album again. Overall: 8.75/10

too many nostalgia tracks, kind of like sha-na-na. But when it's good, it's really good. I few tunes were surprisingly more complex than I remember CCR being

Love creedence! Almost a 5 star album

Classic southern rock. Considering the only other CCR album I’ve listened to was Mardi Gras, this is a sure step up. Some undeniable classics and some straight rockers.

great album throughout, doesn't lose its rhythm and flow. I was surprised to see how much some songs give off 50s vibes tho

By 1970, it was safe to say that Creedence Clearwater Revival were the biggest band in the world. The Beatles had let it be, Zeppelin had revved up massive hype and The Stones and The Who were not too far behind in terms of importance. Yet Creedence's output around this time not only rivaled those bands, they had the power to seemingly shift the balance back on an even keel. Cosmo's Factory was one such example, further establishing the band's dominance as the anthems become intertwined with lengthy jamming that introduced versatility and depth. Peak Creedence, pure Clearwater, a glorious Revival. Favorites: Ramble Tamble, Before You Accuse Me, Travelin' Band, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, I Heard It Through the Grapevine.

Love the singer's voice, the energy, and finally an I Heard It Through The Grapevine cover I actually like. Rating: 4

A lot of covers that are so-so musically, but offer a window into their influences. Top notch originals.

Classic. Lodge of great ones. Grapevine is a cool 11 min. Some think too long. Just right. lol.

What an excellent album. It's maybe more classic, early rock 'n' roll than I thought it would be (eg. Before You Accuse Me, Ooby Dooby) but there's so much to like here, with some real standout tracks. My foot got a really good workout with all the toe-tapping going on. I love the prolonged jams! The 11 minute runtime on I Heard It Through The Grapevine is entirely necessary and I won't hear otherwise. 4.5 rounded down.

Another 4/5. CCR simply doesn’t fail. I can’t say there were any outstanding songs particularly, but they all suited my preferences. I’ll see if I add it to the rotation, but I will definitely revisit it.

Scooby Dooby was right there. 4.

More like Hit Factory, amirite ladies Anyway, this is pretty much the perfect southern rock album, hadn't they chosen to throw on multiple generic blues rock songs, one of which is Ooby Dooby.

Honestly some good ass hoedown ass type music

There are some straight bangers in here (like a good chunk of their greatest hits), but also some stuff I could do without-a few extended jams, Travelin’ Band. Still, almost perfect. I love how swampy CCR sounds, when they all hail from sunny CA.

Love me some ccr

Вайбово

I'm becoming a country fan

Groovy. The album was a trail mix experience. Some songs seemed to follow a standard pattern, whereas some were surprises like Run Through the Jungle. Overall sounds like something I'd blast while on the road with the boys or while energetically cleaning my apartment on an otherwise lazy Sunday morning.

gubbrock

good tbh, gubbrock

One has mixed feelings but begrudging respect for this. On the one hand, one likes the swampy and sprawling opener and the way they run out "Grapevine" to close the record, not exactly pushing the boundaries of virtuoso soloing but taking their chugging ensemble playing to the limit, and to pretty good effect. On the other hand, there are kitschy-silly and borderline novelty cuts ("Looking at My Back Door" and "Ooby Dooby") that make CCR hard to take too seriously. One doesn't love Fogerty's voice, but admires the tight and focused playing. To be clear, one's had the same feelings about Tom Petty down the years – high quality playing and distinct (if almost annoying) vocals and a classic, straightforwardness, that can tend to the point of boredom and predictability. Almost too normal, is what one means, because so rooted in the mainstream and playing to broad tastes.

#3 Cosmo's Factory ~ Creedence Clearwater Revival Well despite respecting their influence, I've actually never dipped my toes into John Fogerty and CCR as I'm not American, nor intelligent in country rock, except for a few songs. Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Proud Mary is perhaps the extent of my knowledge of this band. So I was pretty excited for this album. My goodness, that first track. Well whatever that first track was, it basically put me in a good feeling trance and a dance. And that's really the beauty of this album for me. No pretensions, it's just infectious jams and rock and roll to keep the album feeling surprisingly fresh. And it just goes to show how unintelligent I am when it comes to classic country cause this is not necessarily a country rock album. It is, for lack of a better term, 'Americana'. It is all things vogue in American music in 1970. Classic rhythm and blues, soul (I wasn't expecting an 11 minute rendition of Grapevine to show up, and how pleased I was when it did), and the Beatlesesque psychedelia of that album opener, Ramble Tamble, really shows how versatile a band CCR was at this time. Fogerty the guitarist I see his sound as a prelude to the louder blues-rock bands of the Who and Led Zeppelin, no doubt. Fogerty the songwriter I see foreshadowing the sentimentality of Michael Stipe of REM, although I noted it could be slightly hit-or-miss. But for all the slight awkward moments in the lyrics, Fogerty the vocalist pulls through, because he sings with just enough passion and just enough technique, from howls and yells of anguish to twangy tenor singing, to elevate each song to hit home. And the rest of CCR are tightly screwed together, like a well oiled engine, propelling each song along with a never-ending energy. Cosmo's Factory shines in the fact that everything seems so natural. CCR came to deliver solid music, and they just did. No need to overthink too much, just play with soul. It is extraordinary in being ordinary in the best way possible, through sheer consistency, playing the best-of-America genres with their own flavour of sound. And really, if you are as rocksteady a band as CCR and as passionate of a guitarist and singer as Fogerty is here, you really can't go so wrong. Verdict: And so the pearly gates of the 70s open up.

Great album with some of the classics of the 70’s but full of hidden treasures as well.

Ik ben nog steeds niet de grootste fan van Fogerti, maar dit is stiekem toch best wel goed

Absolutely iconic album! With both the familiarity of the classic hits, and the smooth nature of CCR, the album is nothing but comfortable.

Straight ahead fun rock and roll. Ramble Tamble was a surprise. John Fogerty sings so soulfully. I found myself drawn to the drums, specifically the sound, although the performance is also charming. So refreshing compared to modern studio precision and compression. I liked this record more than I thought I would.

Great album, but definitely don't feel it really hits it stride until the 2nd last song on side A (Lookin' Out My Back Door). After that it's almost all bangers though.

CCR kicks so much ass. I'll never be mad if someone puts their music on.

Great album very consistent and a what can really be called country rock. Great lyrics and arrangements

first album I actually know some songs from. I can never remember which creedence song is from which album but looking at the tracklist I was like "oh, holy shit, this has some absolute classics". this is the sort of album in which, despite never listening to it fully before, I already had 8/11 of the songs downloaded from various playlists. coming off of a sigur ros album the 7 minute opening track did scare me a little bit but the rest of the album is a nice blend of relaxing folk rock and energetic jamming that just comes across as charming and fun. this is with the exception of "ooby dooby", some kind of shitty ripoff of little richard's "tutti frutti" that repeats the (very cringy sounding) title an excessive amount of times. some highlights include the tempo change at the very end of "lookin' out my back door", the guitar riff at the beginning of "up around the bend", and the cover of "i heard it through the grapevine" (most famously by marvin gaye), which is an objectively incredible song. (although, does it have to be 11 minutes long?) favorite song - "travelin' band" (I love when he randomly goes UUWAAUAUAUWWW) overall - 8/10

Man, I should give more CCR albums a chance. Love their songs on the radio, of course. But this was a fun album and very tight and I had never listened to one before.

Never heard of them honestly. Begins and ends very well, with some much less interesting bits in between. Overall a great album (8/10).

Loved this, made me feel good. Great ogs and covers, close to a 5

This was great fun. I was already aware of CCR but even the deep cuts on the album were a great listen!

Fantastic record top to bottom.

Wow there are some BANGERS here. This album is sooo fun. "Travelin' Band" is TOP TIER. And there are obv some classics here as well. I can understand how John Fogerty's voice wouldn't be for everyone, but I love him and think it fits together so well. Liked Songs: "Travelin' Band" , "Ooby Dooby" , "Lookin' Out My Back Door" , "Run Through The Jungle" , "Up Around The Bend" , "My Baby Left Me" , "Who'll Stop The Rain" , "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" , "Long As I Can See The Light"

It's a terrible admission. Creedence Clearwater Revival was a band name that I recognised, but despite my enjoyment of late sixties / early seventies music, I had never knowingly listen to anything of their's. Cosmo's Factory was the fix to that and ... It's damned good. A decent mix of rockabilly, folk, and R&B, and the inclusion of a couple of cover versions gives aframe of reference for their influences and overall sound. A solid four stars

4.0/good riffs, good songs. i liked it!

I love it when a guitar track changes pace, turns on a sixpence, goes in an unexpected and wonderful direction. 'Take Me Out', 'I am The Resurrection' and add 'Ramble Tamble' to the list. What a brilliant way to open the album, the shift into the instrumental section that slowly but surely soars. Magical. 'Lookin Out My Back Door' is another new favourite, it's so alive, so vibrant, so imaginative, I'm there with John and the band, I see the giant and elephants too! 'Up Around The Bend' is just great, what a riff! I've played this loads since I've had Spotify, it's so vibrant and fresh. 'Heard it through The Grapevine' is too long but they got so into the groove they just couldn't stop, and they do a great song justice. Just as soulful as the Marvin Gaye version but darker, brooding, more raw, maybe more believable. And those guitars x 'Who'll stop The Rain' is terrific too. Aside from that it's all swampy bluesy rock that can't quite match the highlights. Somehow I'm listening to them in hot sticky weather again it just works. CCR must have been amazing to see live, they created their sound and nail it.

This was class. Suddenly I think I should see John Fogerty on the Pyramid stage. Nothing blew me away enough to make this a 5/5, but thoroughly enjoyable and “Up Around The Bend” is a classic. 🔥

Am I a Creedence fan?

I'm always down for some Creedence.

It good.

Great album

Probably their best

super fun and high energy. Very good entry level album to swamp rock and blues i think

People are saying this is like a greatest hits album & it sure has a lot of bangers. However even if Fogerty had hypothetically been on the most epic run of songwriting and written Stairway to Heaven, Imagine, Superstition & Hotel California and put them all on this record - it would still only get 4 stars - because of Ooby Dooby.

A 70's rock classic, CCR delivers good jams in "Travelin' Band" and "Up Around the Bend" and some interesting long-form pieces in "Ramble Tamble" and the 11-minute cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". I can understand that the vocal style may not be everyone's cup of tea, but having grown up listening to a lot of classic rock from the era with my dad, this album feels nostalgic. Favorite track: Up Around the Bend

Solid record. Definite classics, but good from start to finish.

Ramble Tamble Lookin' Out My Back Door Run Through the Jungle Up Around the Bend Who'll Stop the Rain I Heard It Through the Grapevine Long as I Can See the Light

Great energy like the other album I heard from them.

Great hits, great sound, good B-sides on this album

Good CCR but not the best CCR

There are a couple of misses on this album, the disjointed opening track “Ramble Tamble” and “Ooby Dooby” for example. But other than that it is a firestorm of HITS. How did CCR write so many songs that have endured so long? When I hear folks talk about CCR, it inevitably comes up that they aren’t from the south, as if that discredits them. Yet, no one bats an eye at the British invaders fetishizing the south. Oh well.

Слушал с удовольствием. Крепкий рок.

Viss eg aldri treng å høyre rallinga til John Fogerty igjen er det for tidleg

8.5/10

Essentially a greatest hits album, this one launched them to country wide fame - and for good reason. Their unique brand of swamp rock is on full display here, ranging from the upbeat to the more subdued. A really fun listen with some nostalgia baked in. "Ramble Tamble" may be their best non-single.

their best album

Complete

Never heard it before but really enjoyed it, great album

okay was going to give this album onlyl a 3 but because of the 11 minute long I heard it through the grapevine song, it jumped up to 4 stars.

If aliens came to earth and wanted to know what rock and roll sounded like, I’d probably play them Sticky Fingers but this might be my second choice. Just good old fashioned American rock and roll.

Best from CCR

This album has some bangers

Times like these I wish I could give out a 9 instead of a 4 or 5

Excellent classic with cover of Hanoi Rocks' hit Up Around The Bend!

Feels like good enough Country Rock. Vocals are on Point, the songs come together as a unit without being all the same.

Perfect guitar-driven rock, that sounds like it could have been their greatest hits.

Classic.

Good lads

great album with some well-known songs

This was nice and catchy :) thx!

What a great complete album. Knew a few songs but never listened to the complete album before. Some damn good jams.

3.5 for now. Leaning towards 4. Will give it another listen. Rule of thumb for me: if you cover do it very different or better. Failed in this one.

What a record, a pure 70's classic. I enjoyed this, it had the perfect mix of familiar classic rock radio staples as well as a selection of tracks you don't hear so much on the radio, which are - and this is key - of very high quality. Every track had a reason to be there, I heard no filler. Before You Accuse Me was a nice surprise, I'd never heard the Creedence version of this, and I don't recall hearing the 11 minute version of Grapevine before, this was epic.

8/10 Favorite Tracks: Heard It Through The Grapevine, Before You Accuse Me, Travelin Band Least Favorite Tracks: Run Through The Jungle, Ooby Dooby, My Baby Left Me

These guys are better than most of the music I’ve listened to from this era. Some of these songs are great.

Great listen

Hard not to role your eyes at the cheesy cover and dismiss this as another lame middle of the road seventies classic rock album. I only know CCR through greatest-hits CDs roommates played at University and heard on the radio but the bluesy first two songs grabbed my attention and the I Heard it Through the Grapevine cover is way better than I expected. A surprising four stars.

Fuck yeah

Starkes Album! Rockt durch und war im Radio vom Dude

So groovy! I’m going to have to dive in to more of their albums!!

Not my personal taste but good

Another great one. More evolved than green river. Song for eveeyone is incredible. More blues development

This is the quintessential "American Rock Record" by the definition of an American Rock Band.

I’m of the opinion that Creedence was world’s greatest bar band. Imagine walking up to a backwoods swamp tavern. The first thing you see is neon through the mist. Friendly shadows. Then you notice the babble of voices and the band starts the next song. It’s “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” and the whole crowd sets down their Lone Star, tucks the Marlboro in the corner of their mouth and dances. Is it just me that sees this scene every time you hear Creedence? Anyway, Fogerty has one of rock’s most distinctive and fun voices, and the music is a perfect blend of what was popular before with some down south twang. These songs are staples of rock radio for a reason. The covers are mostly forgettable to me, EXCEPT “Hoyd it Through the Grapevine” which is sometimes my favorite version. Some sort of dark boogie. The originals are where these boys really shine. “Run Through the Jungle” is so damn pitch black and foreboding it’s legally required to be used in every doc or film about Vietnam. “Long As I can See the Light” is an absolutely perfect closer and those high hat triplets get me every time. This record could be anyone’s greatest hits and they should be proud. I’m still gonna knock off one star for some uninspired cover performances and sometimes too-long jams.

Before You Accuse Me, I Heard It Through the Grapevine.

The Dude abides.

Really love this CCR album. I can never decide between Willy and this one as my favorite from CCR. Probably Willy, but this is a close #2. Well produced, lyrically and musically excellent. It’s almost like a greatest hits album. 6 out of the 11 songs were released as singles and all charted. Up Around the Bend / Run Through the Jungle on the flip side was a monster single release in 1970. Great album.

Great voice and I love their original material, not the covers so much (Before you accuse me). Grapevine should have been edited, it is way too long (11:00). Overall the record seems a bit confused and unfinished. I prefer the collection „Chronicles“.

CCR is just amazing in my humble opinion 4-5 stars

Stalwart classic rock band. Pretty good album. It's pretty easy to say "pass" on two minutes of standard R&B ravings-up (Ooby Dooby, etc.), but the payoff of the 11-minute "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is so worth it.

Packed with great songs.

Just a great rock and roll record. Ton of fun.

More Creedence Clearwater. I don't actually remember anything about the last album despite "Bayou Country" only being 15 albums prior to this one. If Bayou Country was anything like Cosmo's Factory, then I think I may have been sorely mistaken with my impression of this band. Quite a pleasant listen. Some good vocal performances, songwriting and instrumentals. This album is a lot more melodic and cohesive than I'm used to with rock albums, which is far from a complaint. There's nothing on here that really grips me or breaks the mould, but there's a virtue in simply being competent and enjoyable sometimes. I have one more album of Creedence's to get through now that this one is behind me. If I like that one as well, then I think I might check out this band's full discography, which is surprisingly quite short. I was prepared to have a conniption over "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and it's scandalously long runtime for a mainstream rock album, but it was surprisingly quite good. Glowing praise from the vicious, number one hater of "long songs". The time has come for the eternal question. I liked pretty much every second of this album, but I'm not crazy enough about it to give Cosmo's Factory a 4/5 under normal circumstances. Go forth, coin of indecision. Make my choices for me. Heads. Man, this thing really really wants me to bust out a 4 for every album I'm undecided on. Maybe the forces of the universe are trying to counterbalance my miserablebitchitis and make me like things for a change.

Pretty great, timeless songs

That was fantastic

An obvious five-star—and then they have to throw in that Ooby Dooby action. What possible argument could they have made to convince the record company to keep that one in? I’ve always been suspect of Fogerty, brilliant as he clearly was (Backdoor?! Jungle?! Rain?! Incredible shit for a kid from the Central Valley), but that song makes me question the whole apparatus.

Great album

Nice album!

Great sound

Hard to believe all those classic tracks on one album.

Didn't know what to expect, a very enjoyable listen.

Great listen

I usually don’t like too much CCR but this album was pretty great! Aside from the classics, many tracks I hadn’t heard before really went hard. “Ramble Tamble” is a great opener.

First 4 tracks are annoying rockabilly noisy shit, but that last 7 are pure excellence!

This hit me just right, liked it a lot.

Okay, the only other CCR album I've listened to was not stellar, so I assumed they were one of those bands that were only worth listening to the singles for. This, however, is clearly a better finished and more solid album, that actually really surprised me - it's got the obvious singles still, sure, but the rest was actually pretty decent good ole classic rock, so nice one guys

Great album enjoyed it start to finish other than the slightly over indulgent through the grape vine.

I always like CCR. Some classic tracks on this album. Solid album.

This was a fun mix of the tasteful palette of the 1970s and some old school rock and roll from twenty years prior. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Standout track are: “Run Through the Jungle” and “Grapevine”

Great album with a lot of classics

The stars of the Project ride again. On this one, they really straddle the line between what they are - a California band having the time of their lives - and what you could mistake them for - some good ol' boys from the Bayous. A few of the early songs are silly, really, as befit songs called things like Hurdy Gurdy and Oodie Woodie or whatever, but the whole album is massively elevated by the final three tracks. Who'll Stop The Rain is beautiful, their version of Grapevine rivals Marvin's and Long As I Can See The Light is so, so so, so cool.

About as good as you can get for this kind of rock n roll. Semi dated and also timeless? A murder row of hits on this. Took the best of Elvis and the Beatles.

Travelin' Band, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Long as I can See the Light, all very good songs. This is fully half of the CCR greatest hits albums that I have seen from this one album. Ramble Tamble and an extended Heard it Through the Grapevine that I had not heard were also very good. I understand better why the Dude wanted his Creedence tape back. This album is excellent.

This just something about this album. It bops

The Dude abides...

Pretty much every song brought a smile to my face.

many iconic bangers. unfortunately some filler as well.

these guys are great for an outdoor speaker on a sunny day. today i was listening on headphones inside on a cold winter day. and it was still pretty damn good

What a schizophrenic experience. Three of the covers are cringe inducing in that cliched Woodstock-Era-White-Boys-Playing-Soul-Music way. (2 stars) Sandwiched between you have four of the greatest songs of the era. (5 stars). Grapevine is interesting, but WAAAAAY too long. And then it ends beautifully. (4 stars) That averages to a 3.75, which is probably a bit low given how f'cking good those four songs are.

Good album

This is an excellent album, I did not expect to know so many songs since I’m mainly familiar with their hits. I am always impressed by how many CCR songs somehow reside in my sub conscience.

Good album. Sort of samey on some songs

Bother me tomorrow, today I'll buy no sorrow. I’m going to buy another guitar instead. Holy shit, John Fogerty can play.

Chooglin' at its finest

Knew the hits but had never listened to a full album before. For the most part it's a solid album and exactly what you expect. The big issue is the covers. Ooby Dooby (Roy Orbison) and My Baby Left Me (Elvis Presley) both stand out like sore thumbs and really don't fit. I will admit their cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye) fits in a lot better. I would have been a lot more impressed with this album if they had just taken a bit longer and written 3 more songs. All the originals here are great, it's just the covers that stop it being a 5 star.

Got this album when I was a kid in a stack of albums from a friend of my dad's who was moving. Enjoyed it then even though this style of twangy rock wasn't my vibe. Aged nicely!

Not a fan of John Fogerty's vocals, but an impressive album nonetheless. Particularly like the groove on Running through the Jungle

Pretty solid. Looking out at my back yard, who's got the rain, heard it through the grapevine

A nice surpise

Good natured rock and roll with a country influence. Songs, chugs along nicely and as good as this genre gets.

This went by like a breeze. It sounded pretty nice and I was getting a little bored with the 70s sound at this point, but this was soolid.

I heiyd it through the grapevine that this is a pretty solid album. Some of the blues numbers are a bit cut and paste but this is overall a solid album. I just love the singers voice in CCW

It's been a long time since I listened to this start to finish and I didn't know how much I had missed it

Some bangers on this one!

Ramble Tamble - 5/5 Before You Accuse Me - 3/5 Travelin' Band - 4/5 Oobey Doobey - 2/5 Lookin' Out My Back Door - 5/5 Runnin' Through The Jungle - 5/5 Up Around The Bend - 5/5 My Baby Left Me - 2/5 Who'll Stop The Rain - 5/5 I Heard It Through The Grapevine - 3/5 Long As I Can See The Light - 3/5 Average score: 3.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not in my usual rotation, but there are several classics in this one, and CCR has a very recognizable sound. Up Around the Bend was my favorite.

Some classics!

Some of these are fantastic blues songs, and some of these sound like they're on the playlist of a local restobar that's meant to draw in old, white men with relative money to spend through some semblance of the America they grew up with and exotic prostitutes. This isn't a criticism of the music, just how it makes me feel, given my environment. I suppose the reason is because these are very good songs.

*insert a vietnam war movie joke here*

Not trying to be a hater but CCR has always struck me as being musical mimics. Great mimics, but still sort of copies of their influences. Doing a full album listen, I have to give it to them; they definitely are more than that. There’s a few covers here, but to use an overused, American Idol-like comment, CCR “make the songs their own.” Probably my favorite example of that is the enticing menace they bring to their version of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” The album starts a little slow, but once I got to “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”, I liked every track to follow. It’s a 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Loved it!

Some real classics

A real foot tapper. Enjoyed it a lot, more 70’s rock

Pretty good, good energy, seems original

this band is always a blast to listen to

Have to give this a four even though the first song goes on a jam journey. Too many quintessential songs

The Good: We finally understand where Kramer got his name from… The Bad: Finding out that the CCR drummer shared the nickname with Kramer… The Ugly: Dumb, Dumber, Drummer… what? Going to keep this one short. The album contains one too many hits not to warrant 5* But then you get to the 11 minute version of “I heard it through the grapevine”… and take into consideration the 7+ minute intro song… Great album though!

Very good album

I was pleasantly surprised by this album, even though there were some corny rockabilly tracks and I've never liked Fogerty's singing. I went into this not really enjoying what I've heard from CCR before but changed my mind to a 4 for this album.

Better than I expected. Never been a huge fan of CCR, but this is pretty solid throughout. Didn't care much for the covers, especially Ooby Dooby. Who'll Stop the Rain is a fantastic song. The opener levels up when the tempo slows. Overall, it's probably 3.5 or maybe 3.75 stars. I'll round up to 4.

I will admit, I am not a die hard CCR fan, but I do enjoy their music! This album didn't have a single song that I had heard before on it but it was still exactly what I expected from them with just enough variation to keep it interesting. Travelin' Band was my highlight from this album

every ccr song is the same but the vibes are great

Not as bad as I thought! Not a CCR fan but I enjoy some of their slower works. Tracks to Note: -Lookin Out My Backdoor -Who'll Stop the Rain

Not my favorite CCR album, but the singles are undeniably great.

CCR and this album in particular hold a special place in my heart - this tape (along with the Big Chill soundtrack) were practically stuck in the tape deck on family road trips. Because of this I had to put it on while I went for a long drive. The album holds up well on a revisit. Despite their rep as a singles band the filler tracks show the highs and lows. Ramble Tamble starts with a surprisingly funky groove before indulging in some credible psych rock. All the singles are gold with the exception of As Long as I Can See the Light which is a nice ballad but a bit ponderous. Only thing stopping this from getting a 5 is that it isn't trying to accomplish anything new. It feels more like a Swan song for rock and a reminder of where it came from which maybe is important as a beacon for the dark days of the early 70s.

Very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this album, and I see why it made the list. After looking at their history, I'm shocked that they were only together making music for such a short period of time. Up around the bend is my favorite song, and I really enjoyed lookin' out my back door. Heard it through the grapevine went on a bit too long for my liking, but it was still great.

Hoge 7. Niet alle nummers zijn even geslaagd maar staan paar erg sterke nummers op. Instrumentele middenstuk van Ramble Tamble is bijv. om vingers bij af te likken.

Very chill, bluesy. I loved it.

Decent! It's not something I'm ever going to listen to in full album form again, but there are enough classic songs on here that they'll be hanging around my playlists.

Very good album—-Creedence at their peak.

another entry from creedence clearwater revival, and if you thought the last one was a worthy enough blues album as it is, this one is arguably even MORE so, with a bit of classic rock and roll in the mix as well. true oldhead rock. it definitely has that signature sound, with the familiar progressions and grooves one expects with the genre, but i can't get too upset at it when it's done in a pleasant way. can't rate it too high because not every song is a winner.

Pretty good.

I liked some of these songs, but some of them go on for too long. I usually like long guitar solos, but these ones just don't feel like they're going anywhere. Anyways, Looking Out My Back Door and Run Through The Jungle are amazing songs. The last song is pretty good too.

A solid classic rock album with a list of great songs. Good stuff! Favorite track: Travelin' Band

ramble tamble sehr guet, typisch ccr aber chli "moderner"? before you accuse me sochli bluesig aber finds fast zu clean travelin band kenni glaub hahaha da hends kei energie gschont HAHAHA lookin out my back door, RIESE breakdown am schluss, jeglichi wänd ihgrisse jo weiss nöd heard it through the grapevine isch en riese song und finds au guet coveret aber iwie naja es fühlt sich nöd megaa speziell ah? ja ccr chan iwie ih mine ohre wenig falsch mache. green river hetmer immerno besser gfalle und ramble tamble findi supeeer

Much better than Green River! Feels like CCR going into more interesting directions with their songs rather than Green River which was pretty safe and boring. A definite improvement and a great album on its own.

Does what it says on the tin. CCR were not exactly trailblazers here, but what they do, they do exceptionally well as evidenced by the crazy number of songs on this record that were huge commercial successes in their day and still have staying power 55 years later. I don’t think I had ever heard “Ramble Tamble” and really enjoyed it. I love the harmonies on “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and the bluesy-soulful feel of “Long as I Can See the Light”. Something for everyone on this record! 8 ⭐️ / 10

Wow, an entire era captured in one album. Pretty amazing how that whole album could be a soundtrack for the early 70’s.

CCR, and particularly this album is an adjacent yet clear departure from the trend of the 70s. Where other bands started to veer psychedelic, or experimental, CCR seemed to double-down on something else. CCR made an album of songs, they committed to a certain sound that differentiated them from contemporaries like Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, and even the British Rolling Stones. In a way CCR captured what American rock and roll would be for the decade that wasn't buried in either Zeppelin's mysticism, Grateful Dead's psychedelic focus. Cosmo's Factory contain songs that tell stories, an almost anthological approach where the songs stand on their own but rally under a single banner of American rock told through American settings. If this review has a hot take, it would be that CCR at their peak were America's rock band.

You really can’t go wrong with any CCR from this era. An 11 minute cover of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”? Love that shit.

-oh wow this is actually really good.. I’ve never been a huge huge fan of old school American grandpa rock or anything, but I was blown away by how much i enjoyed this. Maybe it went on a little long at some points but it was so consistently good -i wanted to break into song and dance during like every track -Favorites are Ramble Tamble, Travelin’ Band, and Long As I Can See The Light

Muy guay. Ritmo pegadizo

Enjoyed! And I'm a sucker for Heard it Through the Grape Vine.

Ret godt faktisk

3.8 1x catch up 12/3

I feel slightly dirty admitting this. But I like Clarence, Clearwater Revival. The cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine on this album is over long and massively self indulgent shite. Besides that though, I really enjoyed the album. Several of the songs sounded like countryfied versions of Good Golly Miss Molly, but their derivitaveness didn't bother me.

Cosmo's Factory was an album i liked a bit more than i thought i would have. I already listened to Bayou Country prior to this and i was expecting something similar to that album where it is good but not very great but this album though did manage to be great. I felt that the music and vocals were much more memorable and did more interesting things than Bayou Country did. I especially have a soft spot for I Heard It Through The Grapevine as that song just managed to be way more dark sounding that i thought it would be. This album managed to be a pretty pleasant surprise to me. Best Song: I Heard It Through The Grapevine Worst Song: Ooby Dooby

Some absolute classics, but also a bit of filler, or at the very least overly long tracks. The good tracks are great.

Banger after banger. Really enjoyed this a lot.

Run through the jungle, through the grapevine, up around the bend, lookin’ out my back door, bad moon rising, ramble tamble, who’ll stop the rain, long as I can see the light. Goddamn this is a good fookin album solid 4.5

As solid a white-boy blues album as I've ever heard. Clocking in at 11 short tracks, four of them being covers, and seven original songs, this is a step further into a band known by the vast majority by its singles, songs that have made cameos in films from here to Vietnam and back. Speaking of covers, by the way, there are covers, and then there are 11-minute blues jams of Motown songs. Fogerty's songwriting is incredible, but his ability to arrange songs to suit his style is no less impressive.

70s rock. Very straightforward rock, if you want to put on some nice US rock. Really enjoy the vibes. Road trip music. Quite a few hits.

Every song is very good or excellent with a couple of all-time favorites in “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and “Up Around the Bend”. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-cosmos-factory-by-creedence?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

CCR is always great. nothing mind blowing but good vibes all around. 8/10

A very good time. I wish the legal shit didn’t get in the way later on.

A classic. Listened to part on shuffle, I don't recommend that.

It's hard to not respect CCR for their achievements and if nothing else their sheer productivity. This is their 5th album is just 2 years, and 6 of the 11 tracks charted in the top 5. That's unbelievably successful Standouts Ramble Tamble Travelin' Band I Heard It Through The Grapevine Who'll Stop The Rain 4/5

Really fun album. Tons of wins.
