Reviews (page 8 of 13)
Great album the first track goes on a bit. The other longer track, the cover of the I heard it through the grapevine was good. First time I heard this its entirety but well worth will play again.
Some classic stuff here. It seems obvious this list is bloated, or at least bogged down by some immaterial stuff. I shouldn't have to wait 2050 albums to come around to CCR's talent.
These guys have got some great songs and a good vibe. I need to listen to more.
I really liked it. Listened to it while shooting Lamonye Raiders and getting killed by an alligator. Would recommend.
My dad always told me that everything I needed to hear about CCR was on the greatest hits album but he was wrong. I really enjoyed myself with the "new" songs I heard.
Always been reccomended listening to their stuff and never bothered.
The CCR showcase album.
Did I just imagine that Creedence use to soundtrack Scooby-Doo chase scenes? Or did that really happen in the 80s? Memory is weird. Creedence is still awesome.
Not bad
Gritty, swampy, good ol' fashioned rock.
I completely underestimated CCR because I always mistook them for another band. In this project, I finally learned to categorize them better. I already knew the great tracks, but had assigned them differently. Now the band and this album have been given the honor they deserve. 4/5
There's just something comfy about CCR's "swamp" rock/blues sound. Really sounds southern, despite the fact that these guys are from Cali. Rockabilly, R&B, soul, and some psychedelia are the makeup here. Also includes some of their bigger hits such as "Up Around the Bend" and "Lookin' Out my Back Door" (can't help but picture "The Dude" vibing in his car to the latter). The cover of the soul classic "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" was interesting too, if not excessively long. This is a pretty well put together record, especially considering the release schedule of CCR (this was their fifth album in the span of about two years). They weren't a group to half-ass things, though, and that's obvious here. With the exception of two long tracks, everything is tightly arranged which I appreciate as a listener. Tough to choose between this or "Green River" as CCR's best album. Other notable tracks: "Travelin' Band" and "Run Through The Jungle"
First time listening to a full CCR album that wasn't the greatest hits. I've always liked them. Especially Fortunate Son.
Fantastic. An absolute classic. I didn't use to love CCR, but I definitely do now.
Classic
You know, I'm not sure I'd ever think "hey I want to listen to CCR!", but this album is a ton of fun to listen to. Better than Bayou Country, which came up in the list earlier. 4 stars - will listen again.
Enjoyable blues rock album. This is pretty enjoyable and diverse enough not to be bored.
- Probably the first classic rock band that I latched onto myself rather than inherit from my family. John Fogerty has one of the quintessential rock voices. - Saw CCR described as a better "single" band than an "album" band, and I cannot really disagree. Most of the songs are solid (though I do not like "Ooby Dooby"), but they do not necessarily immediately track into each other. - One of the few bands that I like to hear jam. In fact, the slower, more meandering bridge of "Ramble Tramble" is the best part. - "Who'll Stop The Rain" and "Long As I Can See The Light" are all-time classics.
I was surprised that there were so many classics of theirs on this one album. So many songs I knew.
Many classics. This is more like what I was expecting for the previous CCR albums on this list.
4/5
Great
Echte Bangers
Lookin' Out My Back Door.
8/10 CCR! 10-25-2024
Swamp Rock. And there a couple of CCR's best on here. Great stuff.
Good solid songs. Another great example of a band having their own sound and killing it.
So so solid. These guys don’t miss.
Absolutely love this album - I’m going to order a copy now!!
Great album. Classic Creedance. This album plays like a greatest hits.
I looked up the album to see if it was a greatest hits, and the notes here literally said I’d be forgiven for thinking it was a greatest hits album. So, I am forgiven!
Pensez-y : "Travelin' Band", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Who'll Stop the Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through the Jungle". Leur version de "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" dure onze minutes.
5/5
Solid album.
An album with a nice selection of rock songs. Standout tracks: Lookin' Out My Back Door, Up Around The Bend, Who'll Stop The Rain, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Long As I Can See The Light
Great classic album.
good country music
As Cosmo's Factory opens it promises us a new CCR. Space rock and psychedelia? It's phenomenal. "Unfortunately" they quickly fall back into a more classic rock'n'roll/country style. It's not bad, I just yearn for more of what "Ramble Tamble" showed me. Side two manages to return to more creative and, at least for CCR, less traditional songs such as a great rendition of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". Also - this is the FIFTH Creedence album since the release of their debut just 2 years prior. Maybe Fogerty should have slowed down just a bit?
Energetic and fun
I love the range of 70s rock you can hear on this album. Something for everyone and lots for me
Growing up with CCR perpetually in the background may lead to an obvious bias. Matter of fact, their cover of “Grapevine” from Marvin Gaye from the California Raisins (don’t do the math; it makes sense only in my head and timeline) off this album was an automatic victory for them in my heart. But other songs on this album are also winners such “Run Through the Jungle”, “Traveling Band” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain”, one of their best songs ever. But key tracks like “Ramble Tamble” show that their collective talent goes beyond John Fogerty’s Southern-inspired gravel. These guys are a jam band of the finest order. CCR’s sound was consistent, partially because these three albums were recorded the same year, but also because they represented a changing America at the time and were masters of their craft. This was not my favorite album of theirs, but it was definitely in the Top Seven!
CCR just doesn't get talked about enough. John Fogerty is a legend and this album is a testament to a band that is tight and focused on making music. I've always been a CCR hits guy so this is the first CCR album I think I've ever chose to listen to. I do remember seeing a CCR cassette back in the day at my Aunt and Uncle's place. I'm pretty sure it was the album with "Willie and the Poor Boys". So I probably listened to that one. Anyway, awesome, distinct vocals. Tight playing. Great cover song choices. "Heard It Through the Grapevine" is particularly good here. Tons of the hits are on here too. Great listen for back patio or around the camp firs.
YEEHAWWWW
Not my fave, exactly. But still very good. Would listen again.
already knew most of the songs, but hearing it all come together as one album makes it all the better. Some classic stuff here. 4⭐️
I’ve always thought CCR was criminally underrated. I always feel it hasn’t stood the test of time in the way other rock bands have. I really love the groove of this album, would put this on a playlist and will be recommending to a friend.
It’s wild how half of CCR’s stuff sounds like it’s straight out of the 50’s, then the rest sounds like classic early 70’s rock. Their influences clearly span several decades, and they know how to make a good tune. Even if it does sound eerily similar to their influences. Regardless, I can appreciate their musicianship.
#261. The odd stinker and some boredom, but of all the bands and their music this compilation's bias is so fond of, CCR are the damn coolest. Although, in terms of that, the high points for me were "Ramble Tamble" and "Run Through the Jungle" so maybe I'm more partial to the wild rawness of "Bayou Country" (#26). Regardless, Dude was right, this wipes the floor with the Eagles.
Nice one, not an all time great for me
I enjoyed this album, given that I've never listened to 70s music in English. It has a really good country and nostalgic vibe. The instrumentals are pleasant, I enjoyed their use of the bass. I especially liked Run Through the Jungle and We'll Stop the Rain. Overall, pleasant album to listen to.
Great album, many classic hits on it.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Super fun album to dance and cook to.
CCR is always good
Creedence probably at the peak of their Creedency powers. Swampy bluesy rockabilly sounding with a tinge of psychedelia delivered by hippies turned country. A lot of great, and several classic, songs on this one, and a few ok ones. Fogerty soars. Solid album.
Classic album with some all time great tunes on it
Bello, non riascolterei
Papers, business papers
This album is a psychedelic powerhouse that's as much fun as it is iconic. From the opening riff of "Travelin' Band" to the soulful crooning of "Looking Out My Back Door," this album is a non-stop party of rock and roll.
This album rocked. So many songs that I recognized but never knew who did it. Traveling’ Band, Lookin’ Out My Back Door, and Up Around the Bend were absolute hits for me. Also, doesn’t hurt to have a cover of ‘I Heard it Through the Grapevine’ for good measure alongside a few live tracks. Stellar album.
Awesome! Thought it was a clear 4 and then the 11 minute song came on and hurt my feelings. There are also a lot of covers, but the album is still great. Lots of familiarity and they just have a fun sound. 4.
Nice
I’ll be honest, when Creedence popped up, I wasn’t looking forward to listening to it. Then I saw the track list, and realized that without knowing it, I already loved this album. So many classic tracks. And the tracks that weren’t hits hold up strong too.
All bangers
grew on me over the day's course
Just incredible.
Great stuff - surprisingly versatile artists based on the rep they have among classic rock listeners. Not a bad song on the album.
Great record! The first song keeps it from being a 5 for me. Probably should be 4.5 stars
It is a fantastic album by CCR. Nearly all tracks are bangers. Some stuff never gets old.
lots of popular songs on this one
really enjoyed this
If it's not Credence fuck you
One of my favorite band and album. Like all of the tracks and love four of them.
This made me want to go on my back porch to drink a beer and shoot some cans
The album is almost perfect, save for that 11 minute long blight that completely kills the pacing.
Another CCR!! I have to note that Travelin Band is a clear rip of of Tooty Fruity, pretty insane. Overall this was a great album, though it seems like they were maybe doing some covers like Heard it Through Grapevine, too. But it has some of the hard hitters like Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, and Who'll Stop the Rain. This was a great album despite some flaws. CCR delivers.
We've had a few from CCR so far, and this one I know is a big one, by name at least. Not too many big famous tracks, but their cover of "Heard it Through the Grapevine" is really cool, love how long they spend exploring that groove. I get it. Great album. Favorite tracks: Lookin Out My Back Door, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Long as I Can See the Light. Album art: The gang hanging out in what I assume is a studio, one of them on a bike. The bike is striking enough that I always thought they were hanging out in a bike factory, Cosmo's bike factory to be precise. Arguably iconic though, this has to be their best, right? 4/5
Love some CCR and I think this is the first time listening to a full album from them. The album as a whole was enjoyable with my standout favorites being “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” and “Up Around The Bend”
This was one of the first albums I ever owned when I was a kid. I probably played this 100 times or more. Still pretty damn good.
Not my favourite CCR album. A couple of nice covers but not even my favourite cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine despite the nice guitar solo. Up Around The Bend, Who'll Stop The Rain, and Long As I Can See The Light are all great tracks though.
Pretty undeniable album with some all time classics
I like a lot of CCR songs. And, they have so many singles that preformed well on the charts, songs that are still being played today. So, it's probably no surprise that most CCR albums sound like greatest hits albums. Cosmo's Factory is no exception.
Superb
Holds up well.
Klasyczny amerykański rock, bardzo przyjemny, wrócę do pewnych utworów. Zdecydowanie warte sprawdzenia
Fuckin all American classic. The four covers were unnecessary, but this just proves how great of a songwriter Fogerty was. Extra kudos to Lookin out my back door being immortalized in one of the best film scene and song combos in motion picture history. Also - Swamp rock is a goofy subgenre, so it’s fun to reference.
CCR is one of the best known Rock Bands. Here they show off their strengths in songwriting and musicianship. Whether original or cover, they understand the assignment and deliver impressively.
I had heard half the songs on here before but had never listened to the whole thing. It rocks, and some of the best tracks are ones I hadn't heard before ("Ramble Tamble" and "Run Through The Jungle" especially). The by-the-numbers bluesy roots-rock deep cuts are whatever, but if you're trying to fill out 40 minutes, they're a perfectly pleasant way to do it. But there's just a bunch of really strong hits on here with just a really groovy vibe. Nothing flashy, but just strong backbeat, solid riffs, strong lead vocals, strong bass. It's rock done right. One thing that really grabbed me, this album has kind of a dark, sinister sound to it that really mixes it up a bit. Each of "Jungle", "Ramble Tamble" and "Grapevine" has a long minor key section, and "Who'll Stop The Rain" (probably the strongest overall song) is just dark throughout. They're not slow - just dark. Creedence has a great sound overall, and it just gives the CD as a whole a lot of diversity.
For a little while there, these guys were absolute hit-makers.
4.5
classic rock!
Probably my favorite CCR album.
I am speaking with a bit of a drawl now.
I love the smell of Cosmo’s Factory in the morning.
Some real classics and big tunes on here. Deserves a high rating even though I've been giving out too many.
Ramble tamble is catchy, and starts as humorous as it is silly. Then transitions into a nice instrumental progression. This sounds much more of a "rock album" than Green River- definitely catchier songs as well, and overall less "serious". Ends on a more somber but also more soulful note with Who'l stop the rain onwards. Overall very enjoyable rock album and really solidifies CCR as versatile artists
A fun little delight.
the latter half is waaaaaaaaaayyy better than the first
I like most of the songs. When I first heard the album it was a sound I don't usually listen to and it was a little difficult at first tbh. But over time while having it on in the background it has quickly grown on me. The best thing I can say is it really makes me want to get up and start dancing. its so energetic and groovy. "Ooby dooby" is such a bop and "I heard it through the grapevine's" instrumental goes incredible hard. But the album also has some nice slower tunes on it that are just as wonderful.
Some belters
So many great originals mixed in with perfect covers done in their own way.
Love a bit of CCR
There are some bangers on here. And some fun experimentation with styles. But i just did not need an 11 minute rendition of Heard It Through The Grapevine in my life.
An amazing collection of some of the very best from CCR - I would give it a 5 except I always got a bit bored with the extended version of "I Head It Through the Grapevine." That was my memory of the album and it was confirmed by a relisten. Still overall a good times good feelings collection of music. A very strong 4...
Enjoyed this, great authentic voice and sound. Not sure if this is full of covers or the songs just borrow a lot from older stuff but it works really well. It's not inventive enough to be really interesting but I imagine CCR would be brilliant live and I think this album achieves what it's trying to do. 3.5.
Love it! Best tracks are Travelin Band and I Heard It Through The Grapevine 4/5
Never heard this album before, always just listened to greatest hits. Didn't realize they're basically all on this album. Ramble Ramble is best.
Like it! ****
Felt like a top hits album!
BETTER RUN THROUGH THE JUNGLE (Anti-ass defenses are active)
Always partial to a bit of swamp rock and this ticks that box.Occasionally going a bit dukes of hazard but when they are good they are great. Awesome cover of heard it through the grapevine and would have landed my Huey to run through the Jungle. A low 4.
Is this literally the greatest album of all time? Heard every single song a million times
Hele albummet i én køre: 1 gang. 🙂
This is like a CCR greatest hits album. Very good.
Good stuff, although most days I’m sick to death of “classic rock.” There’s something about CCR that’s hard not to like.
4.5* and I can't quite bring myself to round up to 5. Good stuff, great Grapevine cover.
Bra rockalbum.
Pretty good stuff. Can't deny the sheer amount of hits on it.
I liked it, especially the opening track. Good production and John Fogerty’s voice is awesome, pretty standard blues type stuff but definitely a cut above and a mood booster
4.5 A shocking number of hits including probably 3 of my top 5 favorite CCR songs (Lookin Out My Back Door, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, and Long As I Can See The Light). Adding Ramble Tamble and Before You Accuse Me to the list. Not quite a 5 for reasons I can’t quite articulate right now (and may come to regret) but there are definitely two tiers of songs here and while there are a lot in the top it’s not all of them.
Classic. What else needs to be said. Don’t know anyone who doesn’t like the main hits on this album. Rating: 4.2
Pretty good all round.
Love this album. The seven singles are played in movies to this day for good reason. And the non-singles are also a lot of fun. But you know what, Heard It Through the Grapevine is too long. Gimme that radio edit, baby.
Ramble Tamble 3.5 Before You Accuse Me 3.4 Travelin' Band 3 Ooby Dooby 2.5 Lookin' out My Back Door 3.6 Run Through the Jungle 4.3 Up Around the Bend 4 My Baby Left Me 3.5 Who'll Stop the Rain 4.1 I Heard It Through the Grapevine 4.2 Long as I Can See the Light 4 Score: 3.645454545
The frequent use of slap back delay on John’s Forgey’s distorted vocals always seemed to emulate a speaker shouting into a P.A. to a crowd of Vietnam war protesters. This is the visual I get immediately when I start listening to a Creedence album, that or helicopters flying in the jungles of Nam, the later is thanks to the many war movie soundtracks this band is on. After that initial visual I then begin to reminisce about how this band was properly introduced to me. A friend in high school had some cool hippy parents who always played music loud in the house, I’m pretty sure CCR was a constant as was Pink Floyd and Neil Young. I once asked my friend if I could borrow a cd for a couple days. He asked me if I ever listened to CCR. I told him other than when his parents played them I had only heard their songs in movies and on the radio but never really listened to their albums. He gave me Chronicle as a starter and said I need to be more familiar with this band. For those couple days I had that cd on repeat and completely fell in love with the sound of this band. The simplicity of CCR’s set up, songs and recordings makes you feel like you’re in garage with this band hearing them work out the details in front of you. Great album, no skips for me. The Dude abides.
I never really noticed how similar John Fogerty's voice is to Robert Plant's during his low oooh's on the opening track as well as some of the higher register in "Long As I Can See The Light." But this isn't pristine tea-sippin' English rock, this is the sound of beer-drankin' bayou boys who--according to the album cover--have a hoarding issue. Right out the gate, they tell you they have something to say with "Ramble Tamble," giving you a taste of what they do before morphing into a slowed down extended jam and bringing you back. I also didn't associate "Travelin' Band" with the early 60's music of Chuck Berry and Little Richard and everyone else the early Beatles ripped off until I heard it sandwiched between "Before You Accuse Me" and "Ooby Dooby." I don't feel we get to hear true Creedance Clearwater Revival until we get to "Lookin' Out My Back Door" which displays their influences without being derivative like earlier songs. They really make the cover songs their own, and the rest of the original songs were strong enough to make the cut for their later Greatest Hits album. Obviously inspired by the blues, CCR still has their own sound; you know a CCR song the moment you hear it. A solid album from a solid band.
The Dude abides, man! Of course, I've heard CCR's songs about a million times on Classic Rock radio, including several songs from this album. John Fogerty's voice is unmistakable and is for me heart of the band's sound. But in listening to the tracks here I was unfamiliar with, I was surprised to hear so much 50's Rockabilly and Little Richard-style stuff. I always think of CCR as kinda straight forward, middle of the road rock, but not in a bad way. It seemed to be the perfect accompaniment as I drove around today in the summer heat with the windows down. I especially enjoyed "Ramble Tamble."
I was always kind of neutral on CCR. I would hear them on Fox 97 years ago and think 'well this is a cool song' and just never really dove any deeper than that into their music. I think this album just made me more of a CCR fan. There are so many strong songs. I enjoyed the sound of the recording too and the way John Fogarty's voice was treated with the reverb. I think as kid in Trinidad falling asleep in bed at night hearing the sounds of 80s dancehall music on the sound systems coming from the city's center and all the echo and reverb on the vocals.....it must have stayed in my subconscious as that kind of thing still draws my attention today. I thought this album really jammed. I think 'Who'll Stop the Rain' 'Up Around the Bend' and 'Run Through the Jungle' were my favorites. The grooviness on 'Run Through the Jungle' was pretty sick. CCR on this album managed to find a hell of a combination of Blues, Funk, Rock and Country music. They way Fogarty sings is unique and raw. This album definitely made me a bigger fan and more willing to check out other CCR albums.
A great list of iconic songs. Better as a entire package than for any of its k dividual parts. Not my personal favorite but a certified classic all the same.
I love me some CCR
Good ol' rock and roll.
Really solid album. The cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine was unnecessarily long, and some of the lyrics in the song didn't necessarily mesh with me, but this was definitely an album I enjoyed.
It was good, i liked it
CCR has been just a cultural behemoth that it feels like they’ve always been here. Half this album is classic. Enjoyed this. Great summer driving music. 4/5
I Heard It Through The Grapevine **** Un viaje psicodélico de solo 3 minutos, se puede con CCR Long As I Can See The Light **** Un cierre digno de un gran disco.
CCR are an odd case of the buisness side of music interfereing with the music side, in that multiple songs on this album have been used ad nauseum in TV, movies, truck commercials, and parodies off all of those. It's very good music, but annoying to listen to for the approximately 10,000th time.
Hard to hear CCR without having their utter overplaying on the radio be a factor, but it was super cool to hear the cuts on an album of theirs (however few there are on this album) that didn't chart.
Fed plade
Liked the influences from other genres, but got a little boring for me at some times 3.5 stars
This is the Creedence record with all the hits. A Southern sound of rock and roll with hints of blues and soul. This is a timeless sound that sounds good any day of the week.
Ramble tamble: love the opening! Love the beat and the instrumentation. This track is fun! Defo reminding me of a few other songs but I can’t put my finger on what they are right now. The instrumental break is maybe giving me stairway to heaven again? Which came out a year after this - more inspo for led zeppelin maybe? Went on longer than I was expecting, but I’m not mad at it. That said, I wouldn’t be mad if they released a much shorter version without the instrumental break either. Before you accuse me: this is fun, it’s giving old school 50s rock & roll vibes, a la Elvis Presley. Travelin’ Band: this rules, very rock & roll! Short & sweet. Ooby Dooby - ditto! The opening reminds me of Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. Lookin’ out my back door: welcome to the country! This is giving me homesteading in the hills. I like it. All the elements are working well together. Run through the jungle: I enjoy the dramatic opening! I don’t have much to say about this song, but I enjoy it and would happily listen to it again. Up around the bend: I like this song. I like the guitar, the drums, the harmonising vocals.. I like it :P I like that I feel like I could sing along to the chorus of this song. My baby left me: this is giving me rock & roll again, leaning slightly more rock this time. I think it’s a good song but I don’t find it very exciting. I wouldn’t mind this song coming on but probably wouldn’t seek it out - it feels a little filler-y. I like the vocals on Who’ll stop the rain! The guitar and drums too. I’m a sucker for vocal harmonies. This song is a bit slow for me but overall I like it. I like the instrumental break! I heard it through the grapevine feels like more straight-up rock to me. I like this song! I think it’s well-done and all the elements marry together well. There’s some great guitar on this song. Another longer song - did they put the long songs at the beginning and end like a sandwich? …I just checked and this song is 10 minutes long. That’s pretty self-indulgent, but I respect that haha. Leaves room for a tasty guitar solo or two. I like the way it slowly fades out. I enjoy the instrumentals on Long as I can see the light a lot. I like the melody and lyrics of the vocals as well but wish the voice was a little smoother. This is a nice way to end the album, it’s like they’re celebrating and saying goodbye lol Overall I feel like a little bit of a traitor to my country cos I think I like this album better than the Cream album we listened to yesterday.
Very refined set of classic rock songs. Specially love their rendition Before you accuse me, which is a blues classic
Good stuff. Very recognizable easy listening of a certain era. Vietnam War vibes all around. Worth another listen. Who'll stop the rain is my favorite.
I've never listened to this whole album before. It's actually pretty decent. Quite pleased.
Lots of classic songs on here. Very good blend of Blues, Country and Rock
California 70s rock - Spell noe Creedence!
Good as hell
happy to see some road bike appreciation on this album cover - but the bike looks like shit... stu cook is looking absolutely zooted and like a st8 chiller ... music rocks, coolest dudes ever
One of the best things about this journey has been coming across albums I’d probably never listen to normally but really enjoyed, and this is one. I’ve always thought of CCR as a bit…well, a bit “dad rock”, a bit dated, but this album stands up really well; John Fogerty’s playing is amazing and that would probably carry it on its own, but the songs are great too. To my surprise, I’ll be revisiting this.
Definitely worthy of at least 4 stars. Letter grade B+. I have always liked CCR a lot but not quite to the point of being a favourite.
What a terrible album cover! Just why? Album has lots of memories tied to it though. This was a very early band I fell in love with and probably over listened to the point where I just hear it now and am not amazed anymore. Probably a shame on my end.
Classic album. Classic band. This album is so good from the front to back.
Wow. Lots of hit on this one. Great stuff.
Obviously knew the hits, but enjoyed the other songs as well. Great album.
Good old rock and roll!
When you have a band this confident in their craft, it's hard not to love them. CCR has nailed the art of feel-good, soulful, simple tunes with three chords and a rocking folksy beat. The sheer number of consistently great songs packed into an 11-track album is a testament to this band's skilful songwriting. I particularly like the lead and backing vocals, though after an album or two, I might want to listen to someone with a "smoother" voice. The bass playing is also easily audible in the mix, and it's played very well. I guess I'd like to see a little more variety in terms of instruments and production. There are a few tracks that feel like filler versions of other ones, and a couple of tracks are great but don't quite justify their track length. Think S&G's Bridge Over Troubled Water, released the same year. CCR taking that approach would've raised my rating to a 5/5, no question. Key tracks: Travelin' Band, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Up Around The Bend, Who'll Stop The Rain, I Heard It Through The Grapevine
It's creedence, it has a special place in my heart due to nostalgia, used to hear these songs when I was you ger in the back of the car while my parents drove, long car rides sunny days, it makes me remember when it was better
Lot of good historical bangers on here. I like the cover of I Heard it Through the Grapevine.
Haven’t and won’t do a deep dive on CCR’s discography, but I’m willing to bet this is their best album. It feels the most directed and concise, not just one folksy honkeytonk song after another. When I was like 5-6, I used to LOVE the song Traveling Band. I’d scream the screaming part and everything
Long as I Can See the Light is too slow; I especially like Travelin’ Band and Ooby Dooby
Would be 5 but filler songs not that strong.
Love
4/5
#5 Best: Long as I Can See the Light Worst: I Heard it Through the Gravevine Enjoyed this album more than I thought i would
Good at the start, with some good instrumentals but gets a bit samey and boring
Relax man
This album has more great songs than most albums on this list. It also has a couple of very predictable blues rock songs, like Ooby Dooby and Before you accuse me. The singer has a great voice, but it would have been better if he wasn't raging full-on all the time. I heard it through the grapevine is a good example of what could have been. So great album, but not perfect. Favorite song: I heard it through the grapevine. Favorite song that's not a cover song: run through the jungle.
Probably the best Creedence record. Loaded with hits. I love this version of Grapevine.
Well, kids… this is what a guitar sounds like without any effects. Really, on its own merits, this is a great album. Probably generational with all of its hits; 6 in Billboard top 5. It’s a sound that somewhat defines that late 60s/early 70s, Vietnam era rock. I remember CCR record commercials as a kid. They were probably for Time Life or something. I have moved on sonically, but that doesn’t detract from their impact; especially with this album.
A really good album, I love the style of their music. My favorite songs on the album were Travelin' Band, Up Around The Bend and I Heard It Through The Grapevine.
This rips.
Always forget how many CCR songs I know until I sit down with an album. Love the extended jams on this one.
Omg yes
I was surprised by how much I liked this album and how many songs I recognised. I heard it through the grapevine was such a good cover. Such a special song with so many great versions. This album is great, an easy rockabilly listen. One I will be listening to again. Favourite song: I heard it through the grapevine. Least favourite: None, all good tracks Album artwork: Iconic: Great cover
Mooi album
Love CCR. Would have been a 5 star if there hadn't been a 7 minute AND 11 minute song on here. 4/5
Everything you would want from an album with tracks titled Ramble Tamble and Ooby Dooby! Lovely stuff 4.4
I'm a blues hater but this is refreshing
Viele Geile Songs. Aber einige geiler als die anderen
Much better than I was expecting.
This is way better than I expected. Quite bluesy and rocky. But some good stuff on here. Still stands up well today.
Better than Green River imo
I was originally going to give this a 2. Then I decided on a 3. And here we are at a 4. That's CCR for you.
This is cool as hell. I'm so glad I listened to this. Will definitely listen to other CCR albums now, and will definitely listen to this again. I might even grow on me to get to a 5/5. This is just something that I managed to skip somehow as I never grew up listening to classic rock radio or anything. So so good, I got so much out of this. I enjoyed every minute of the 11 minute cover of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".
Album 367 of 1001 Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory Rating : 4/ 5 Awesome album. For me, it just doesn't hit the level of Bayou Country, which I had just a few days ago. Nevertheless, it is still a top notch album including some classic tracks.
Sounds like America.
Well, I'm in junior high again and loving it.
Very solid record . Favourite tracks "long as I can see the light" and "Run through the jungle"
Hadn’t heard this album, just a lot of the songs. Heard a good new one but also heard some duds.
Actually really great
Lot of good songs on this album. Good long version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine is fantastic. Enjoyed the two listens! 4/5!
Full of bangers
I just love CCR. Such a great album
An album not to be overlooked. Several of the classics are on it
I remember listening to this record as a kid when my parents would let me play their records on the turntable. As a kid I was fascinated by the bicycle on the cover. Not sure why. Maybe since it’s out of place in that context? Anyway. Great album. Lookin’ Out My Back Door is one of the greatest elephant related songs ever written.
This album plays like a greatest hits collection.
I like how it zooted around with the vibes - nice bouncy guitar music people. Not their best but I liked!
Enjoyable
4 some really great songs with some ok blues/rock n roll songs sprinkled between
Heard these songs a ton on the radio growing up. It’s fine in that context but it’s not something I’m going to throw on by choice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I knew at least half the album beforehand, so that's a plus. "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" should not be 11 minutes long. Nope. Sorry. "Long As I Can See The Light" = it's weird hearing a sax in this band, but it does signal how Fogerty wanted to stretch the band a bit. One of my favorite CCR bits is in "Looking Out My Back Door" when the band slows to half time. It sounds so weird, but just works so damn well. And the hits keep coming on this "Who Will Stop The Rain?", "Traveling Band," "Up Around The Bend" ... great songs. Definitely a great album for people to start with for CCR, even with the 11 minute cover of "Grapevine." It's just you can tell which songs that are definitely NOT the hits. "Ramble Tamble," "Ooby Dooby" (someone was in a bit of a rhyming phase?). They stick out. But even so, it's a really good album to listen to. A strong 4 for me.
Love this kind of music. Never listened to it all the way through.
Great American road trip movement 4
CCR bangs 8/10
**** a great blast from the past.
It's definitely a sound that is aged, not in a bad way, but I can clearly hear the pass of the years when I listen to this album - there's something about it that sounds "old", but I like the way it makes me feel. It's not a bad sound, I actually like it. But it's there. My favorite songs: - Up around the bend - I heard it through the grapevine For some reason this album feels like something I would listen to on a long drive.
100% ROCK'N'ROLL!
Good rock and roll!
Love Creedence, used to be in a CCR cover band. Ramble Tamble is a banger.
One of the best road trip albums
so many hits and such a fun vibe
That great southern rock!! Brings back memories of summer road trips when my dad threw the CCR greatest hits into the ghettoblaster. Most songs were recognizable from said greatest hits. A couple songs I’ve heard covers from other artists and the ones I didn’t know fit perfectly in like a puzzle piece. High 4!!
Really stands out among their catalog as the most complete album. Ramble Tamble was such a damn good start to the album.
This was quite a recording for CCR. Six songs released as singles and many of these songs are part of the classic rock catalog."Who'll Stop the Rain", "Heard it Through the Grapevine" and "Lookin' Out my Back Door" stand out. CCR was just a good old rock and roll band!
Solid album. Creedence is great. Not everything was amazing, but some absolute classics on here. Ooby Dooby was a fun one I hadn’t heard before.
Very enjoyable, now I get why they have such a dedicated fan base.
Great album, most of these are just their greatest hits. Always been a big fan of the band. Can't rate unbiased because of how I grew up with this music, reminds me of singing in the car going fishing with dad.
Enjoyable. More trippy and jammy in Ramble Tamble than their singles. Listened on headphones and enjoyed the intricacies, hand claps, horns.
Solid album. Was pretty middle of the road for me, a few good songs and a few meh type tracks. Was a decent variety of MJ's musical genres mixed in also. Quite funky at times.
Pretty excellent
Very good album. More covers than usual for Creedence, surprising since John was still writing ace tunes. Docked half a star for feeling the need to make an artistic statement with their sprawling 11 minute version of “Heard It Through the Grapevine”, 3 minutes of good single and 8 minutes of meandering psychedelic blues jam.
Can't go wrong with CCR!
Goes insanely hard.
Solid rock album.
I love this band so much it's kind of embarrassing. This album cover LOL! It is "dad rock" that maintains some edge even today. I really like everything on here, it's a guilty pleasure. I dig their loose approach, it adds flavor to what could otherwise be unremarkable blues rock. "Lookin out my Back Door" is homey and quirky and I love it. I loved this even when I thought I hated country music, wghich this (kind of) is. Great band, killer songwriting, topical without being dated, at times fun and other times somewhat dark. A little humor goes a long way.
How the hell do I know almost every song in this Credence album? Great album overall (let's not talk about Ooby Dooby). 4 stars.
Classics
sorry zach
I feel like this and who’s next are right there together. 4? Who will stop the rain best song
The Lebowski album
Second half of this album is so good.
I expected more
8.5/10 - 4/5 Didn't expect songs that you'd want to do the twist to. Much boppier than I expected. Great Southern rock! Such good guitar work, and John Fogerty's voice could stop a train.
Rock 'n Roll
Blast from the past. Had this on 8 track back in the day. Not their best but not bad at all.
I get this impression with CCR that they are capable of making brilliant interesting rock songs (like Ramble Tamble), but at this point in time they were very caught up with churning out blues rock staples and amped up cover songs. These tunes are mostly decent, but don't have much staying power with me. The Grapevine cover is pretty good I guess. Fave Tracks: Ramble Tamble, Run Through the Jungle, Who'll Stop The Rain?, Long as I can See the Light, 3.9/5
3.8 possibly the best CCR album. who'll stop the rain, ramble tamble, up around the bend, looking out my back door
Difficult to be objective since I've heard them all before, but your very typical classic rock record. It's a good collection of songs with inspiring, feel good, happy, get up and go songs. Had a good balance between some more generic lyrics around traveling and dancing and some deeper themes protesting the war.
4/5, first track blew me away. Rest was good mood music but kind of forgettable
I did not realize how many songs I knew were from this album. Great classic rock, favorite track was travelin band.
I love credence. Very good
- Looking Out My Back door is another LL Bean staple - Honestly enjoyed this way more than I thought I would the vibes were good - 3.5 but I'll round up yolo
- CCR is a vibe - summertime music
8 / 10 Pioneros del Rock Sureño.
Lot of hits on this one.
Always blows my mind when I remember how much great music Creedence made in such a short time. They were such a tight band. Nothing super revolutionary here, just some super solid rock/blues. No wonder they outsold The Beatles in 1969, music was obviously heading in this direction.
Take country, R&B, rockabilly, straight ahead 50’s rock and psychedelia and have a band that takes their craft seriously and has a strong pop sensibility mix them all together and you get one of the great American albums. I love the extended “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” jam and "Long as I Can See the Light". If this album has any downside it’s that it is a de facto CCR greatest hits album and several of the songs have been worn out by classic rock radio. However, even fifty years of over-playing five of these songs can’t overcome how incredible an album this is.
Good album. Lots of classics.
Was good. Some solid songs. Good bluesy record with some classics
Huge fan of CCR - never hear this album in its entirety before I heard all of these songs already, but actually nice to listen to them in the order that they were put in the album
Classic tunes from these Golliwogs.
This album reminded me of my dad for some reason
Ooby dooby
Listened Before? No This is a solid album and further evidence that I should listen to more CCR. Stocked full of no less than 5 hit singles, one of which has become the definitive rendition of a classic soul staple (I Heard It Through The Grapevine). I find the mixing to be a bit odd at times, but it is a staple of the CCR sound. It is as if the mic focus is entirely on the instrumentals and they capture the vocals as if they are being sung in an empty auditorium with the mic at the back of the room. Run Through the Jungle is one of my favorite CCR jams. Something about it just feels so true to form; dusty, husky, music that seems fit for playing while riding a hoverboat through a bayou. I Heard It Through The Grapevine taps into a similar energy; however, is much more soulful and elongated giving the guitar and drums plenty of space to spread out and shine. Ooby Dooby was a lone low-light for me. Otherwise, this is a super solid album. Strong 4 / 5 for me. Added to Library? Yes
Great chill album. Also reminds me of college summers drinking and playing beer pong.
CCR hits are always welcomed by me. I didn't know much else besides their hits on this one, but I really loved Ramble Tamble and Ooby Dooby. Another southern rock album that impressed.
I knew so many more songs on this album than I thought I was going to. I have never been crazy about CCR but this album changed that. There is some blues and some straight up rock and roll with some shredding guitar. The singer as sings way harder than I remember.
Some solid CCR with a couple duds. The good far outweighs the bad though. Heard It Through The Grapevine is one of my favorite songs ever and their cover of it is insane. Also really weird but I watched Walk the Line earlier today and they had Elvis singing a rendition of My Baby Left Me. Weird for it to happen on the same day is all. Anyway, 4.
Great rock with some classic hits. -B
classic banger
Pretty solid album, could use some consistency but it has a lot of catchy riffs. Vocals instantly recognizable but guitar was also a high point.
This was one of the first albums I'd ever bought on vinyl. I love the blend of blues and rock with a hint of psych. Fogerty has such a perfect voice for this genre.
It was classic americana. Funny, infectious, and jammy (like a soft boiled egg). I don’t understand the constant reference to rain but i like it. the first 1/3 or the album is alright but it becomes the ear worthy album that it is the rest of the way there. I’m astonished at how fun and timeless this album is!
Classic music but the first time I listened to the whole album
Song that you can hear in “once upon a time in Hollywood” with a Elvis Presley twist
I very good rock album. My main criticism is that the guitar solos were too long and there were too many on this album. I’m sure that people really love that about this band, but as a first time listener, it got dull. I’m sure my mind will change as I continue to listen.
Great album. 4 stars
Enjoyed this. Knew some of the songs, but never deliberately listed to CCR before. Will listen again.
Rollicking American rock. Driving through big cities but not stopping. Throwing rocks into the bayou as you swig beer out of green bottles.
Holy hell, this is like THE Creedence record. I already know 2/3 of these songs by heart. The others fit perfectly along with those. God, I love Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Really good album. The first track is not the greatest I’ve ever heard, it’s far too long. But while that’s how I feel about that song, I Heard It Through The Grapevine is great, even though it’s significantly longer. I’ve never really listened to Creedence Clearwater Revival before, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. 8/10 Top 5: 1. Travellin’ Band 2. Who’ll Stop The Rain 3. Long As I Can See The Light 4. I Heard It Through The Grapevine 5. Up Around The Bend
Great

I like CCR. I'm not sure this is my favourite album of theirs but its a good one.
Listened Before? Y Absolute bangers, back to front. A real classic album. Fogerty's voice is unlike anything else and this mix of scorching originals and classic covers is absolutely awesome. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Run Through the Jungle
In just four years, CCR came, became one of the biggest bands of the late 60’s, and then went. And in the first two years of that four year run, they released five albums of gradually increasing quality. Cosmo's Factory is the culmination of those two years. The highlight of this album is its two longest tracks. I feel that them being longer gives the band the most time to jam, and develop that jam. But the shorter songs that make up most of the track list are almost all good. I’m don’t know what “swamp rock” means, but what I do know is that this is some of the best blues rock you will find from this era. It kind of doesn’t get better than this. Now I’m aware this is a very out there statement, but John Fogerty might be one of the best vocalists, like ever. There is something so enjoyable about the way he sings. It’s not from this album, but listen to Have You Ever Seen The Rain and tell me that’s not some of the purist and most rootin' tootin' bluesy vocals you’ve ever heard. Rating: 8/10
- I like it. First track is a little bit amazing. Too many old-blues-number-covers to really be great.
Always a great album!
Love their sound
Solid album, good to listen to whilst cycling
I really don't understand why so many bands just put 10 minute covers on their album like it was a normal thing. 4/5
Swamp rock at it's finest
CCR is always fun
cool
Pretty good actually - better than I thought. They're going for it :-)
Nice
There's a lot to like. I like his vocals and how they're delivered, even though I need to have my lyric app to fully know what they're saying 100% of the time. I like the different flavors of rock. The instrumental parts are real stand outs on this album. The breaks in lyrics just to jam out are enjoyable through the album.
I listened to this one twice. On the second trip through I found myself listening to more of the pretty parts. Ramble Tamble could be a mid 90s indie rock song. Some of the other songs are a little weak. Travelin' Band is some kind of 50s boogie woogie pastiche that makes me think of Sha-Na-Na. Between songs like this there are some real bangers. The handclaps on Up Around The Bend highlight the strong sing-along melody and steady rhythm groove. CCR's version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine moves the song's origins much further south than Detroit re-imagining it as a Delta Blues song. (The additional white guy noodly jamming doesn't improve it. Perhaps its too Clapton adjacent for my tastes.) The album closer - Long As I Can See The Light - is as solid of a final track as any album I've heard. All in all this is a genre-defining record with some solid singles. And there's a guy on a bike on the cover.
Some classic tracks on here. Giving it a 4 because a few tracks don't really click with me
6/11, 55%
3.5/5
J'adore ce groupe !
I'm still surprised at how much I like Creedence Clearwater Revival. On paper it's everything I should hate: American rock'n'roll and country, annoying voice, hooray energy and a vibe of a drunk middle-aged man. But I enjoy it
This is fuvken brilliant, not my type of music but god damn it’s the best of this genre I’ve ever heard, amazing, almost a 5 tbh
7/10
