Reviews (page 2 of 14)
Starts with a bang, fades out in a whimper. Plenty of bangers but doesn’t result in an album I’ll want to listen to again
Probably quite good if 1/3 of the album hadn’t been overplayed in my youth.
2.5 stars It’s difficult to separate this album from nostalgia, as this was a huge record during my freshman year of high school. Everyone knew it. I had it then and definitely enjoyed the first half of the record. But I always felt iffy on the second half, particularly the terrible closing track “Everything Will Be Alright.” With over 20 years to reflect on, the first half mostly holds up as solid pop new wave/post punk revival. “Mr. Brightside” is one of the top songs of the 00s. It represents that era of backward looking music well. But it also falls flat of being bigger than that. It’s difficult to imagine this being something necessary to listen to if you weren’t around then. But it serves well as a document of what the rising popularity of mainstream “indie” music was like in the mid 00s.
As a millennial, I’m well aware of this album which is why it’s difficult for me to be objective since this still sounds like teenager music, making it less appealing as an adult. However, listening to it, I’m immediately transported back to 2004…I guess that’s what good music does. Definitely above average when compared to many other albums on here.
Not keen on the vocals. Musically I find it a bit dull.
I got toast but I'm not a toaster I got ham but I'm not a hamster I got a butt but I'm not butter I got nits but I'm not a knitter I got plums but I'm not a plumber Jenny... is still their best song and hasn't been played to death thankfully. Don't think over ever heard the second half of this albums before. Thankfully, no need to
I remember this one fondly. I really liked Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, and it’s still a terrific opening track. Unlike the rest of the world I wasn’t too smitten with Brightside, but really dug Somebody Told Me. Outside of those tracks though, I can take it or leave it, album-wise.
A tale of two halves. The front half, incredible. Even the B-sides, awesome. Then the second half came on… and I wasn’t sure I was listening to the same album. It was awful, nothing memorable except the feeling of dread that I couldn’t skip the songs.
Ok
So these are the lads who did "I've got ham but I'm not a hamster"?
Not super into it, but it wasn't bad either. The Killers are good at writing tunes that are catchy at first but don't have a lot of real substance. But there's nothing in their music I actively dislike, so I guess it's a solid "average" record for me.
I'm not sure if I like this or just tolerate it. A little poppy for my taste and some of the guitars / keyboards sound grate with me
I guess because of all the other music that came out at this time, I’ve never found this album to be very impressive. It’s like what other bands were doing, but way less good. Or interesting or impressive. If this were the only thing I’d heard from that era I’m sure this would be a perfectly fine pop album. However, since I am familiar, it’s like: “Her?” Update: I felt like I wrote above was a little snobby, but then I heard the last song (apparently for the first time) and nope, I’m right. So gross. Fucking dorks.
They tried to beat the strokes and failed miserably. Never actually heard the album before … not good. sounds rushed two singles on here are completely out of place all the other songs Sam throw together knackered
Not bad... Never heard of it before (maybe that one song that was playing everywhere... "Somebody Told Me"). Not sure I'll keep this album in my rotation (?), not really my flavour.
Vocals very stereotypical of the early 2000s post-punk revival a la Interpol. An historical reenactment of an historical reenactment. 2/5
Not my cup of tea at all.
I understand the appeal, but it will never be me. The sound of this album emulates the settings that play Mr. Bright side: claustrophobic rage rooms. The sound does open as the album progresses, creating some prettier moments.
Overall: 2.5/5. Some catchy songs here but nothing really stuck out to me as particularly impressive or great, especially when comparing it to other indie-rock records from the same period. But it is very listenable, there was no point where I was actively irritated by it.
first time hearing. felt like I've heard it all before. 80s music updated.
Not bad for the most overplayed band in the world? -1 star for kinda gross lyrics
Excellent bass sound, woah. Yet, the record feels all over the place? Couple of bangers, but too disjointed for me.
Fun early 2000s pre economy crash white boy rock album. Enjoyable. Fun for car rides and roadtrips. Great vocals and instruments.
It’s front loaded with ok songs but it doesn’t really make my dick move
Knew 2 songs before - like the album but not exactly my style
i liked the opening track and obviously mr brightside is an amazing and nostalgic song but i probably will not be adding this album to any daily playlists
Best Song: Smile LYMI, On Top Worst Song: The last 4 of the album In small doses, has some catchy elements and can see it being enjoyable in a 2000s club, but the latter half of the album is devoid of this. The most likeable aspects can be attributed to being derviative of 90s Britpop / New wave, I actually thought some of this was New Order. But overall it comes across as very confused and artificial rather than inspired. Brightside -dont hate the song, it's just overplayed
Best Song: All these things that I have done Worst Song: Mr Brightside (:/) Not my favourite album, I am not a huge fan of The Killers, ROUGH START
It sounded like an album of Mr. Brightside but not catchy
Boring. The Killers are for normies who dress like they're not.
Alright but nothing special
2, 5 stars I actually liked the first songs on this one, although I was a bit skeptical about this album, considering I only know the most famous songs of this band and watched an interview of them, where they kind of seemed not like my cup of tea. The last of the songs weren't to my liking though.
Corporate indie for elliptical machines and hockey games. Super high-energy hype up music expertly assembling the most excitable elements of millennial guitar rock from alt rock, emo & pop-punk, post-rock and garage revival (epic reverby guitars, driving bass, synth hooks, marching drums) to create an explosive anthemic sound. They blow their wad on track two with Mr Brightside though and the rest can't reach that level. A compilation of the best of Killers, Bloc Party, Snow Patrol, Twilight Sad, post Is This It Strokes, mid-career Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, the Arcade Fire jock jams and all the other bands from this era that sound like this would be an awesome CD-length album representing the last gasps and final dying fling of guitar rock. But there's too much samey filler on this album and oh my god the 'soul not a soldier' and 'INDIE ROCK AND ROLL' bits made me throw my headphones into the bin. What about this makes it sound incredibly British?
literally only tried for the first three songs, they're calling it the worst closer in history, tragic loss of life, etcetera, etcetera.
Never listened to this album end to end before, but felt like I had already such was and is the frequency with which they seem to get air time. Not really my bag. Over produced to hide a poor vocal performance, and the songwriting seems to become progressively more low-effort stadium rock towards the end. Stinks of trying to wrap up an album because you've already written the money-makers. Generous 2.
Early 2000s nightmare for me. This type of music just doesn’t do it for me. The over exaggerated 2000s New Romantic sound feels twee.
Heard Before? Duh. Notes: - I'm not surprised that the least interesting band of the 00s dance-punk revival became the most popular. What does surprise me is that anyone is still choosing to listen to this 22 years later. - worst possible production. everything too slick, too loud and hyper compressed. I would much rather listen to something actually incompetent. - someone forgot to tell the keyboard player that the whole point of a synthesizer is to make interesting sounds. - yet underneath all the posturing, embarrassing lyrics, rookie songwriting and sanded-down performances, there are some undeniable hooks. somehow that makes it worse. Verdict: Trite, fill-in-the-blanks dance-rock where the big sell is a douchebag frontman. Yuck. The only fascinating part of this album is how it is a populist slap in the face to elitists like me. The people have spoken, and they love polished slop. Listen Again? No one on earth ever needs to hear this again, but that doesn't seem to stop them. Oh well. There's always tomorrow's album.
There's some good songs on here. I can tell why they're popular: they've got a knack for a good melody. I can't get over the style though. This is a style that dominated popular music, and with anything popular it's easy to get tired of.
No
This sucks. And why does the lead singer sound british? He's from Las Vegas right? Is it just because he's ripping off better british bands? On the positive side, when the robot sings "from the back of the restaurant" on the track Smile Like You Mean It, it's one of the funniest things I've heard while going through this list.
My review was not saved and I’m sad cause it was why I hate the killers sublime and oasis
This guys voice SUCKS! It’s too whiny and it sounds like his lips stay glued to the mic the entire time. I TRULY despise this Indie-er than thou, bored rich kid style of singing. It’s nails on a chalkboard. Even if the songs are ok, catchy even, it doesn’t matter. I couldn’t make it through the album because his voice is SO fucking insufferable. I’ll never come back to this.
OMG. No. Never
Didn’t care for The Killers when they first came out. Don’t really care now. Perhaps I’ve heard Mr. Bright side one too many timea
Uncomfortably loud, could barely get through the first two tracks then had to shut it down.
- hard to get into - decent - try to see the listenability in the first three songs that I haven’t heard of - LOVE Somebody Told Me - oddly familiar - fifth song is boring me - until about a minute and five secs in (okay lyricism) - not feeling like revisiting this album this far - melodies are too simple thus far - not enough rise imo Half way point - On Top is a personal favourite but still very stagnant melody and theme - for the time, this makes sense - I feel like I’m by the Lifetime pool - change your mind is chill but I’m not bored yet - just remembered I’m black while listening to Believe Me Natalie - I can get behind half of this album if I liked them enough - this song just woke me up - idk know if this album is to loud or to quiet for the themes of the song or what but it’s just off putting - three songs left I feel like quitting - this is not an easy first listen - it’s too easy of production that it’s hard to continue - regaining faith with Midnight Show - why are they even talking about rn?? - it’s very 80s but not in the right sense - I’m over stimulated and underwhelmed - please hurry up (long ahh nonsense songs) - I like Everything will be Alright already - will I be disappointed?? - it’s the most interesting song yet - it’s also the longest - I feel like I’m in the morgue - nothing he’s saying means anything right now but I’m down - I’m slightly more bored by the chorus - I feel like skipping but the song almost over - it’s getting Radiohead/ Deftones- y but the just goes so far away - this is a really hard listen for me today - I don’t know how universally acceptable these takes are since I generally don’t lover the Killers - the rest of the song is just instrumental- a if the song needed to be longer - last song and I don’t like it- too meta - to bluh bluh bluh - then the guitar tries to save me from this experience and almost succeeds - embracing white struggles and experiences - it’s so plain it leaves a bad taste in my mouth - at the time, I don’t see how this album did well - key changes and theme changes is not making this song more listenable - me as a kid would ball my eyes out if I listened to Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll when it came out - it’s so tone deaf and lacks and depth of any kind - one of the safest plain albums ⭐️.5/5 starts (1.5/5)
No one needs to listen to his before he/she dies. I would have died happily without the killers.
Womp womp
I love this album I know that technically and musically there's better out there but it gives me so much joy
It’s hard to give this album any lower than a 8/10 - multiple big hits that helped to define a musical era. It’s a bit one note but not in a bad way. It’s interesting too to listen to these songs in a context where people aren’t scream singing them at a wedding or other celebration too - there’s a bit more nuance than I would’ve expected. Great album today, happy to be back :)
Smile Like You Mean It is a very special song to me, but this whole album was getting played while I drove around aimlessly in the PNW. Vaguely familiar from early childhood memories but maybe not because I was two when it came out. Reminds me of wasting too much money on gas and getting nothing done outside of looking at pine trees.
Well this is just a classic I tie back to a few specific summers. Their sound certainly set them apart from other indie rock acts of the time. The songwriting is excellent
This banger of an album absolutely deserves to be on this list. Such a classic. So many hit singles and legendary songs. (5)
Holy shit this album hit so hard in 7th grade. I haven’t listened to it all the way through since then, but it definitely holds up for me.
This album was my first CD this band was my first band. After them there was never again just listening to the radio. I am not that big of a fan anymore, probably never was but they introduced me to music and I am eternally grateful.
chef kiss
4.5 - This isn't my favorite album by the Killers, but it's still good enough to round up to five stars.
This album is great. This is the album that got The Killers famous and it's their debut album. Mr Brightside is a true masterpiece, but the album also isn't a one trick pony. The second half of the album doesn't live up to the first half, but I don't think that matters.
The first half of this album is filled with certified classics. The second half is mostly new to me, but didn't disappoint. Amazing album.
this is literally the best best….i’ve actually heard mr. brightside before and it’s my favvvv. song… all other songs were nice i could listen to it again 9.5/10
So hot
One of my absolute favourite albums. 10/10! There's hardly a weak track here. Starts strong with Jenny, then their megahit in Mr Brightside. Smile like you mean it is another banger. Then you get another couple big hits in Somebody Told Me and All these things that I've Done (which is my personal favourite of the singles) The rest of the album keeps up the pace, too. On Top, Believe me Natalie, everything will be alright and finishing off with my favourite of the whole album in Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll. I reckon this is a contender for best album release post 2000.
It ain’t no fuss!!!
Me gusta mucho, mi cancion favorita del album es Mr.Brightside. Me recuerda a la tipica intro de peliculas de high school. Me ha gustado mucho
One of the best records of the aughts. I listened to this record so many times. I still love it. 10/10
I’m never quite sure if the Killers are brilliant or ridiculous but on this album they get the benefit of the doubt - it’s full of bangers
all timer for a reason. some of these songs GUARANTEED to get white people dancing
This is car windows down with my friends on summer evening music. The blend of pop and alt rock with drive and energy behind it pushes through the first half of the album. The second, a little more down tempo and introspective, but never maudlin nor sappy. I dig it. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine Mr. Brightside Smile Like You Mean It Somebody Told Me All These Things That I've Done

The first half of this album is insane. Just banger after banger. But I will defend the 2nd half. I think a lot of tracks on the back half are as good as the tracks on the 1st. They just don't have the instant appeal that most of the 1st half does.
Such a great album - bangers all the way through
C’est vraiment l’album idéal pour un début d’été ! Plein de vie et de bonnes ondes j’ai adoré
Killer
This was the most formative album of my childhood. It's perfect, no notes.
All bangers. Yes the second half is not as good, but it’s unfair to say that they only have three of the best rock songs of the decade on this record. An all-timer.
Easy 5 - great debut album. Second half is better than people think even if there not chart toppers.
I absolutely adore this album. Did when I was a teen and will never be able to forget those feelings.
One of my favorite albums of the 00’s - listened to this all the time on my iPod. Yes iPod kids.
Automatic 5 stars. One of my favourite albums growing up, Although Mr Brightside is an indie anthem there's at least 4 tracks on this which are just as good or arguably better.
I can't remember how this sounded the first time I heard it, and there's no way to be objective now when I've got the entire thing memorized. It's getting a 5 from me. Maybe it deserves it, maybe it doesn't, but one thing's for certain: my rating statistics for the 00s could sure use the bump.
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to this album so I was happy to see it pop up on Friday. Gave me more time to listen this album over and over again like it was senior year of high school. It still holds up. This could be a biased rating as it is one of my favorites.
Need I say more
All bangers
Perfect debut albums do not get much better than this one. One of those albums where the listening experience actually feels like having fun. The songs are amazing, the vibes are great, the earworms work, the deeper cuts slap, this is a banger. The only downside (that does not affect my opinion of this record) is that The Killers haven't gone anywhere near this degree of perfection.
It's very difficult to make a perfect album, and this one is very close. Lots of great songs, absolute classics 15 years later.
No skips. Best of the early 00s alt rock. Obvs Mr Brightside but OnTop is a better pop song. Love it
The first half is perfect and the second half is pretty good
When I think about this album objectively, I am not sure if it lives up to the nostalgia hype. Some of it is kind of whiney tone that now irks me. I loved this album as a teen. I even knew a person who had a tattoo based on the lyrics. I will probably always love this album because of its impact on that time of my life. With all that said, this is probably my weakest 5.
Pretty damn fun this one. The synths are dated, the lyrics are (mostly) shallow, but I somehow still enjoyed it from start to finish, and will listen again. It's not like 'Is This It' ever needed to be deep and thought-provoking anyway.
don’t get much better
Very good !
This is the first album to appear that is in my personal top 10
genuinely there are a lot of fun tracks on this album i forgot about, and i think i really might be subject to nostalgia for this sound but i think this is a pretty solid cover to cover listen for all modes of transit. staring wistfully out a bus window? jenny was a friend of mine. walking with a lil pep in my step? on top. drunken taco bell parking lot karaoke? mr brightside. driving? idk i can't drive, someone else can say. fav: duh... (mr brightside)
Incredible debut setting the tone for the genre. Not one skippable song, yet everything is diff
I feel like I’ve heard that second song on there a couple times idk All jokes aside there’s some pretty phenomenal tracks on here. Jenny was a Friend of Mine is a pretty good opener, think they do a great job of contrasting their sound with the dark lyrics. Mr. Brightside is one of the ultimate white people turnt songs, and although it’s certainly a little overplayed, there’s nothing quite like being in a bar/stadium and have everyone go crazy when the lyrics start. Somebody Told Me also goes hard, super difficult to get out of your head if it gets stuck in there. Instrument wise I think this one’s pretty great as well, great guitar riffs, bass lines, drum parts, clearly a lot of talent at play. I definitely think the album being so front loaded hurts it a little, but that’s more of a symptom of the first few songs being so damn good rather than the back half being weak. I’ve said I don’t care for super distorted/robotic vocals in the past, and while I stand by that, it doesn’t bother me quite as much in this one for some reason. Either way very happy with this one, have complained about the 1001 writers having an awful track record with picking 2000s albums and they’ve definitely proven me wrong in the last few weeks. I just don’t understand how you can hate this one
Yeah. Only the greatest white people anthem to be made. My take is All These Things That I've Done is the real gem on here
This is just a fantastic album. All These Things That I've Done is the greatest song ever. All the songs sound so different from each other, this is literally the definition of a perfect album.
This is one of those albums that has that personal nostalgia and connection to it. It felt like the first sort of album that shifted my main listening habits, and one of the first that I fell in love with really. And in all honestly, I might be a little biased seeing as this was the first vinyl I ever bought and is a masterpiece. It’s a true no skip album, and also definitely the first concept album that I ever listened to. It probably taught me what that was in all honesty, and is still probably one of my favorites to date. I love believing that the story is real. I can understand how some of the start of the album feels overplayed, but I think that’s just it becoming a victim of its own success and quality, and it deserves its place on the wall of fame. Also, I would put "All These Things That I've Done" in my top 10 songs of all time.
Well I hate synth. It's okay for this though. Lots of emotion. Great bass sound, And background guitar that's easily missable. The backside is missing what the front has. Made me feel something deep.
Banger
Absolutely love this album and has a special place in my heart - our son was born as this was playing on repeat!
Brutal
HOTTIES, lowkey listened to JUST somebody told me 100+ times over these two days
Banger of an album!
woke up, sun shining into my room, started the album. hit the spot.
Fun, energetic, maybe a tad too long.
I fully anticipate that this is Millennial Dad rock. It very much captures the time of the early '00s and has enough bangers on it to deserve a place on this list, but I'm absolutely certain it's something later generations will not appreciate. So I'd give it three stars as an unbiased observer. That said, I'm not an unbiased observer. Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll is a contender for a personal anthem. Mr. Brightside is my karaoke staple. Somebody Told Me lives in my head rent free. I'm entitled to that a controversial five star take. So I'm going to take it.
Apparently I already heard more than half of this album before now without even knowing it. I swear I went through the first half of the album going "wait, I know that song" over and over. Keeping the pattern of every album like that for me on this list, my favorite by far is one I actually haven't heard before, Everything Will Be Alright. I love the way they do slower music. Anyways, I've always loved similar "let's take this basically dead genre and Indie-ify it so it's no longer dead" kind of bands like Interpol and Unwound, and now I found a third one to enjoy. This is definitely a lot less deep than the other two, but they really make up for that in their energy. The whole album is a big range of emotion and it's really fun the whole way through.
Damn, this is a solid record. One of the records that is really connected to my first couple of years in college. so many great tracks, including "Mr Brightside" that gets more flack than it should. Highlights: "Mr. Brightside", "All The Things That I've Done", and "Change Your Mind"
Mr Brightside isn't even close to the best song on this album
Listened Before? Y This is a staple of my library ever since it came out. Love the emotion and power here. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: On Top
Absolute banger of an album. All Killer, no filler (pun intended, I regret nothing). Every song on this album rules, especially the always-popular Mr. Brightside, the smash Somebody Told Me, and my favorite song on the album, Smile Like You Mean It. Even the back half of the album is full of good tracks, and Glamorous Indie Rock And Roll is a great closer. All-timer of an album, this is.
one of the best to ever do it
Front-loaded but fantastic. The filler is still really good. It would have to work really hard to lose the points it gets for its first first five tracks.
Very nice album with a lot hits :D
Por favor, qué bandón. Los: amo. Además hablemos de esa forma del cerrar el álbum. Sí, sí, sí!!!!!!
Weakens a bit in the second half but the first few tracks are as strong as anything laid down by anyone.
There are a handful of albums that can transport me not just to a specific time and place but a feeling in general. This is one of those for me. The number of times I would spin this up leaving my job as a server at Rocky Run, a local restaurant, and the relief of another shift over, money in my pocket, nowhere to be, the dark of the night, the glow of the dashboard, the empty mall parking lot. The first few notes of Jenny Was a Friend of Mine takes me solidly back into that place and time. I enjoy this album, and though it is hard to separate that sense memory and listen to this one with a critical ear I think I still enjoy it devoid of the feelings it instills. I think Vannucci's drumming slides perfectly into place on every track. Dig the musicality. Enjoy the lyrics. Total package, no skips.
Seminal. No skips. Unreal debut album. That run from song 1 through to 6 is legendary. Very cliché and millennial but this was top tier in 2000s. Shame they did not continue the heights of this, even though they had some gems over time. Wonderful jangly pop.
MAIOR QUE CARREIRAS ESSE AQUI!!!!! sou muito suspeita para falar de the killers porque é minha banda favorita, mas é inegável a influência deste album para a cena indie/alternativa. A explosão que foi, e ainda é, Mr. Brightside, deveria ser estudada. brandon flowers pra mim tu é DEUS. maior frontman do século 21!!!! all these things that i've done é a melhor música do mundo e só minha opinião importa.
4+1 for Mr. Brightside! So many weddings!
ta chevere
P. Debs!
amazing versatile album. My favorite song was "all these things that I've done". Honorable mention: Mr brightside, On top
Brilliant when it came out, unfortunately they never got anywhere near this level since.
Easy 5. Every track is blinding. Solid as fuck debut album. I've got toast but I'm not a toaster. Ive got ham but I'm not a hamster. Etc.
Umildbart 5, fik ikke den sidste halvdel med. - Den holder, og jeg glæder mig til at høre den igen allerede. Det er den helt rette mængde rock i min baggrunds pop, sammen med en tilpas interasant lyrik.
The album of my teenage age. Love it to the moon and back Was shocked when i learn it was christian rock but still love the Killers
Too formative for me I can sing the first 5 songs, memories of good vibes in Sydney with Benny. Has to be a 5
Amazing fucking album. Holy shit. No misses on this one.
Fantastic. Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me are classics
Keller lover
i like this type of rock, yayyy
10/10
This is a great album that I owned and had on high rotation back in the day. Plenty of hits, and I think the album tracks are pretty decent too.
This album a top 10 all time for me. I must have listened to it for at least a month straight when it first came out, and I still revisit it at least yearly. Catchy lyrics, great beats, and solid vocals give this album its charm. Sure, Mr Brightside may not be the most challenging song, but anyone that has ever heard it can’t stop from singing along. And the story! My god the story!! I have maintained for years that this follows the story of a man who killed an ex girlfriend and is standing trial. It goes from the investigation all the way through sentencing with the narrator trying to convince himself he’s not a monster. I cannot get enough of this album and a glad to see it here.
Really great stuff. The first five songs are all generation-defining and the rest of the album is still good
Discovered so many good songs with this one.
5/5 For my money, the last great popular rock album
6 for the first half, 4 for the second
21 - The Killers - Hot Fuss - Rating = 5 I got this album mailed to me when I worked at the record label as a promo. I remember listening to this thing on a consistent basis for like 3 months. Kalani, Mat and I all liked it… from the opening track with the driving “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” into the monster hit “Mr. Brightside”… hooked from there. Brendon Flowers’ voice is catching… the mix of the synch and guitars… just a really good sound. This got played a lot when it was new… it’s still damn good. Definitely a great album of the 2000’s and established the Killers as a big band to watch.
I listened to this album twice because I was torn between 4 and 5. It includes a top (if not THE top) millennial anthem in Mr. Brightside. Smile Like You Mean It and Somebody Told Me are also underrated tracks. Between those three, it set a solid floor for its quality. I enjoyed the other tracks just enough to give it a 5, especially how it closed with Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll.
A fun album from start to finish. Great lyrics and vocals. Catchy tunes and great pop sensibility. I'd happily listen to this again.
Very subjective review here as I've heard this album numerous times. But hearing it again now I just remember how incredible it is. Everything is on point: cool hooks, Brandon's singing - while still not as good as he gets later - is very good. Guitar playing and tone is fire. Bass is solid and shines in 'Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine'. The album is absolutely front-loaded, with the first half of the album being stellar. In comparison, the latter half is perhaps not quite up there, but still extremely solid with 'Change Your Mind', and 'Midnight Show', and 'Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll' being a very good songs. Gotta be one of the more solid albums I know actually. Easy 5.
I remember listening to this album on my iPod during a trip to LA with my family in my teens, sitting in the back of the car and looking out at a countryside I hadn’t seen since I was five. In many ways, this album encapsulates that trip. I suppose that also means it’s hard to review it with any real objectivity, as things you love in your teens often are. The start of the album is incredibly strong: “Smile Like You Mean It,” “Mr. Brightside,” and “Somebody Told Me” all appear within the first few tracks which is an incredible run. The album does struggle to maintain that level afterward, but I still think the rest is solid, even if a few tracks could have been left off. While some of it can feel a bit vapid, Bill Bailey once joked in a sketch that “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier” isn’t deep, it’s just wordplay (“I got ham, but I’m not a hamster”), which feels pretty fair. I’d never really thought about the fact that this is a debut album, which is kind of incredible in its own right. I still think my favorite The Killers album is Sam’s Town, but this deserves five stars too. It might be hard to see past just how much radio play it’s had over the years, but at its core, it’s a genuinely great album.
Album is perfect. I like it. Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, Somebody Told Me, Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll and All These Things That I've Done are very nice. Everything Will Be Alright is perfect!
вже деякі пісні з цього альбому мені знайомі! Інші виявилися також чудовими і качаючими. ♥ останнім часом саме такого жанру/типу пісні мені до душі тож це постріл в десятку!

This is one of the best albums--if not THE best--of the 2000s. I'd probably say Sufjan Stevens, Illinois, Wilco YHF, and then this one.
Criminally good. You know u gotta help me out
Top, curti imenso
¡y no me importa! Lo tengo en repetición desde que lo terminé de escuchar. ↑: Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine; Mr. Brightside; Somebody Told Me; Andy, You're A Star; Midnight Show; Everything Will Be Alright; Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll ↓: –
One of my all time favorite bands although not my favorite of their albums. I love The Killers and I love Brandon! 4.5/5
Talk of filler is nonsense, I found side 2 perhaps more appealing as it's without the big walloppers on side 1. As debut albums go it's very good
Absolutely fire
Spectacular pull
wall to wall bangers
Classic!!!
dude, it has mr brightside on it
What an Iconic album, everyone loves Mr. Brightside but this album is full of other gems that are still in circulation today. This album is a great example of what pure ALT Rock should look like.
10/10 no notes no skip album ! this is what it's all about !
Very nice, mi kid was dancing from track 1
I'm sure it's not as great as I think it is, but for all the sentimental reasons, this hits so hard.
DISCAZOOOOOOO
Top 3 All the things that ive done Everything will be alright Change your mind
Front to back bangers
Was not a stranger to this at all. If this system was out of 10, this would be that 9. I can't call it a perfect 10 cause the back half tracks are not very strong, but I will still give it a 5/5.
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier. Meine Güte was ein Album. Sogar ohne biographische Verklärung bekommt das die Höchstwertung. All killer, no filler. Schon schade, dass das totgehörte Mr. Brightside das Album fast ein wenig schlechter macht. A 2004-piece-of-art. 🖤 While I've been down Across the road or two But now I've found The velvet sun that shines on me and you
Wall to wall bangers. Yes, I am a 35 year old white man, how can you tell?
Album No. 0161 on my list. Nice. I was glad seeing this on the list. The Killers did some of the most important songs of my late adolescence, and I fully agree with a comment I saw on YouTube stating that “Mr. Brightside” should be the official anthem of the world. I had not listened to “Hot Fuss” in a while, so I was curious how it would hold up. Let’s just say I’m a bit conflicted about the final verdict. This is definitely a great album, but there is a distinct difference between the first five songs and the rest. And I’m asking myself whether the greatness of the first five songs warrants a 5 star rating or if the okay-ness of the last 7 reduces it to 4. The first five songs of “Hot Fuss” are all bangers, and I’ll add all of them to my playlist: “Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine”, “Mr. Brightside” (you know, the world anthem”), “Smile Like You Mean It”, “Somebody Told Me”, and “All These Things That I’ve Done.” All great, all very unique yet still with a consistent sound to them, good lyrics, great singing. These are certainly some of the best rock songs of the 200s. That being said, the latter half is rather just “pretty good”, or “okay”. There is no bad song on this, but there are less inspiration, a little less creativity, a little less catchiness in these songs. Yet, I kinda like the sound of them and the production with this distant voice of Brandon Flowers, I like the drumming on the whole album (Ronnie Vannucci is really the band’s not-so-secret weapon.) Heck, this album is great, awesome, iconic in its best songs, and pretty good in its worst, so the highest rating is definitely warranted: 5/5 stars!
4,6 Highlights: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, Somebody Told Me
Solid all around and Mr brightside just makes this go fromo an 8.5 to a 9. But great vocals and kind of new sounds for rock in the 00’s. So a well deserved 9
A longtime favorite of mine. A perfect example of the last wave of popular rock music in the US. Critics always seemed to hate the Killers, Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, etc., calling their sounds derivative and uninspiring. I never understood it. These bands took inspiration from post-punk and alt-rock, added a pop sheen, and produced some amazing, catchy, popular, and timeless music. This album is one of the best examples. Mr. Brightside is an anthem for American Zillennials as are Somebody Told Me and All These Things That I've Done. But some of the deeper cuts are also great, I particularly like more aggressive tracks like On Top and Midnight Show.
Very nostalgic album for me, absolutely love it from top to bottom
The year is 2004 and, in my world, Bratz dolls are huge and so are Primark velour tracksuits with diamanté detailed pockets. My dad introduces me to a band he's heard on Radio 1 called "The Killers" and I think they're crap because their outfits do not match my Bratz dolls and boys are stinky. Fast-forward 5 more years and boys are no longer stinky, especially not Mormon, eyelinered ones with intriguing songs about sex, drugs and murder, not to mention this being the time of another Mormon classic I would also madly, deeply, irrevocably in love with. Now, I'm wearing my vampire-teeth necklace with a drop of blood, I'm spending all my money on Topshop skinny jeans, I'm spending weekends at a Hyde Park Tumblr meet-up and I am most definitely listening to The Killers!!! Teen me fucking loved this album, I thought it was genius, I thought it was art quite frankly. Listening to it now in full as an adult, perhaps it is an album of mostly clangers, perhaps the good songs are mostly about the murder of a women and I don't particularly think that is a good subject for an album written by men. But I don't know, they didn't end up being wronguns like so many indie men of the time, so maybe it's okay? The good songs are good! It's a time capsule, and I think some of the tunes do hold up in a fun, dancey, indie time. We liked it! I think there is a tenderness to some of the songs, I think the potential for them to move on to better things (and then move on to ballads only I guess) was right there and genuinely songs like Believe Me Natalie hold up for me. I will concede that the classic / overplayed ones are not great and there is some serious clumsiness with lyrics (or maybe all the lyrics low-key). But what you gonna do?
I love this album start to finish. All These Things should have been as popular as Mr Brightside. Actually, this band should have been more popular. They have great vocal styling, the fullness of their sound is impeccable, the drums and guitars are pure rock.
HEY THIS IS KINDA FIRE. I'm surprised by the number of songs i actually enjoy for real in this album. 3 years ago me would have absolutely loved this album and listened to it again and again. Current me will hit play from time to time but damn that's an album i do have pleasure listening to
Imagine a new band releasing a debut album where the entire first half is filled with such blistering hits that you can't even catch a breath? You don't even have to imagine it; the album is right there. The second side isn't bad, but it certainly pales in comparison to the first. Nevertheless, its blend of post-punk, Britpop, neon synths, incredibly dense bass, and pleasant, if not particularly profound, lyrics made this album one of the pillars of 2000s indie rock. Its main and only flaw is how good it is; twenty years later, The Killers still haven't quite managed to overcome this, and later they completely retreated into American Springsteen-esque territory. However, some other bands haven't achieved even half the awesomeness of this single album in their entire careers, so there's no point in complaining.
Hey man, the early aughts were weird. Turns out it was more or less the dying embers of rock as the last great period of good albums coming out. This one has hooks, riffs and solid storylines. I'm a fan and think it holds up really well.
I already know this is a 5/5 album. Seeing them in concert was incredible and it was basically this album lol. Also bonus, served as a good reminder to give my friend Jenny a call.
Wasn’t prepared to listen to this album all the way through for the first time and think that it was so fire
He has such a great voice. His singing style reminds me of Gerard Way a little bit. I had heard Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, and All These Things That I've Done before.
FAVS (top 3): jenny was a friend of mine, somebody told me, on top mençoes honrosas: mr brightside, all these things that ive done, change your mind, belime me natalie, everything will be alright, glamorous indie rock & roll gente esse album é MT bom de começo ao fim, especialmente o fim, eu adoro a vibe da outro (gir&r) q arraso!!! nota final: 5/5
I love this one. I don't know if I would have included it on a list of albums everyone must hear, but I'm still happy to listen to it.
Holy shit, this is like Biting Elbows mixed with Muse, i LOVE it
this was so fire like already amaze with mr bright side, Jenny was a friend of mine, smile like you mean it and somebody told me. I liked on top, all these things that I’ve done and midnight show. Loved the vibes the production overall everything rlly fit well together first 5 star album 👍👍
LOVE
Not as good as Hot Fuzz, but then again, what is?
This is such a good alternative rock album. It's also simply right up my alley as far as genre so that helps. But regardless the tones are so good on this record, and it's mixed so well. Everything has space to shine, and everything deserves the space that it has. Each piece of these arrangements is so purposeful and works so cleanly with everything else. The vocal timbre is just right and everything is performed so gorgeously. I had a great time running through this album. The guitar is tasteful and the bass so full that is feels like that would even be enough. But the percussion is tight and groovy without being repetitive and the keys and a dimension that is really working for them. And it has an awesome closer to help resolve this project. Wonderful use of 50 minutes. 4.8/5
more debut albums that represent big historical points in the world of western music, this time in the world of 2000s alt rock. blending blunt lyrics with super wide sounds that coat your ears in sound, the killers' energetic songs make just about anyone get up from their chair and sing along. the album hits hard and it would probably hit harder if it blasted through a slightly distorted, mega crunchy fm radio station 20 years ago.
This is a good one.
Let's be so effing for real, I almost combusted when I saw the killers. Not that I listen to them on a daily, but its like a familiar name. I already knew its a five
One of the best alt rock albums of all time.
There are a surprising number of "breakthrough albums" by artists for which the lead single - the song that got them famous - is the worst song on the album. That's certainly the case here. Somebody Told Me is the weak link . . . but it's still pretty good.
Great album, so much nostalgia for me in this! Lots of great nights out lol. Some songs I hadn't heard in years, need to go through and save some
I forgot how much I like The Killers. Great album.
great!
Great album! I love the sound, pop punk is my favorite genre so I had high hopes and this album did not disappoint. I do not have the words to discribe this album, It is just really good!
COÑA GITANA QUE M'HA TOCAT ESTE ALBUM DE MILLONES OMG MR BRIGHTSIDE ÉS LA MILLOR CANÇÓ DEL MON somebody told me top 2 cançó del album literalment cançó perfecta si no fora pq mr brightside és més perfecta encara all these things that i've done top 3 trobe q cançó mes bona 5 estreles esq és un album perfecte
very good
I like The Killers. Brandon writes pretty great catchy melodies and I like his singing. The music is a cool fusion of rock and pop that feels like power-disco at times. The hits (Mr Brightside, All These Things, Somebody Told Me) are all great songs. The rest of the songs took awhile to win me over. This is an album that I've picked up and put down many times over the years and I think I've gone from a 3 to a 4 to a 5 with it. The Indie Rock and Roll song isn't that great. It feels like a throw away that they should have left off because Everything Will Be Allright feels a bit like a lullaby and a great song to finish the album.
The Killers might not be everyone's cup of tea, but gosh dang, I love them and this album. I even walked down the aisle to an operatic version of All These Things That I've Done. One of my most favorite songs. This is a super impressive debut album. It rocks out hard with great hooks throughout. It's front loaded with the best songs in the first half, but the lesser known songs are still solid. Especially love Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll to close the album.
ah nostalgia
Great album. Knew Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me before listening so was super excited to listen. loved everything.
Incredible album. Iconic.
Huge sound and big feels. Just what we needed for the early 2000s. Flawless blend of synth pop vibes and indie rock. "Smile Like you mean it" is a personal mantra that I use daily. Clever lyrics, great for karaoke
Automatically a great album because of Mr. Brightside. Enjoyable
Teenagers were onto something in the 2000’s.
Immediate 5 Nostalgia ridden. In an album so full of bangers, it's a shame that Mr Brightside is the only one that was really caught in the mainstream. Fave track: All These Things That I've Done
I really enjoyed this entire album not a dull song on the whole thing
What a debut! (Decided to change my initial rating of 4 to 5 because this labum is that good, and the one or two skippable tracks are semi-decent actually and don't detract from the rest.)
One of my favorite alternative albums of all time. So many iconic tracks and peak musicianship throughout the album
Not a single clunker on the album.
One of the best from one of the best Best song-All these thing I have done 10/10
It's a bit amazing how kind weird this album this. For an album that includes one of the most well known and beloved songs of the 21st century and another insane mega hit, there is some weird shit in here like "Andy, You're a Star" and "Everything Will Be Alright". Listened to it countless times back in the day. The hits are undeniable and the weirdness works for me. This is what Imagine Dragons would sound like if they were good. 9/10
yessss!!!!
Стряхнула пыль с древних писаний майа 10/10. No notes. Perfection
🔪
All These Things That I've Done my beloved
I am still listening it
"I know what you're doing here"
For all of the obscure (to me) music that this generator brings me, and for all the repetition , looking at you Neil Young, Bob Dylan, et al. the generator also has an album like "Hot Fuss." By no means obscure to the public writ large due to the sales of the album, this album was new to me. I remember the singles in particular "Mr. Brightside" but aside from that I had never listened to this album until today. That was my mistake. This is a great album. The big singles deserve their fame but of the 12 tracks on the album there are no songs that are not good, and after listening I just wish I would have heard it sooner.
It weirdly works quite well that the algo has given me HOT FUSS after QUEEN II, two bands which have some very very well known hits and then a relatively unexplored back catalogue. The 3 centre pieces are are obviously outstanding bits of music, and i've found some other gems here I'll be taking with me. It's indie rock and roll for me.
Einfache Sache.
Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll halt.
Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me are amazing hits and the other meh tracks don't diminish that.
FIYYYAYAAAa
I forgot how good this album was...
Faded a bit but still unreal
OMEGA HYPE
COMING OUT OF MY CAGE AND I'VE BEEN DOING JUST FINE C'mon, even if you ignore the absolute dominance this album had in terms of the mid-2000s zeitgeist, it's just wall-to-wall alt rock bangers. I don't care that "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" is cheesy nonsense. Album continues to slap. Fantastic. Favourite track: All of it tbh.
10/10 album. Absolutely incredible and still holds up over time.
Almost every track on this album is great, but it is very front-loaded. Still, this has to be one of the best modern debut albums; it was everywhere when it came out. You could argue it was inescapable if you left your house. I don't know as time goes on if I'd stick with my rating, but for the sheer impact it had in my formative years I'm bumping it to a 5. Fav Tracks: All These Things That I've Done > Smile Like You Mean It > Mr. Brightside Current Fav Album: Hot Fuss - The Killers (#4/1089)
Nice album with several very big songs. I can understand the dislike from others, but for my enjoyment and the lineup of singles 4.5/5
Maybe you had to be the right age at the right time, but my millennial self still loves this album!
loved this even though i initially discounted the killers as one of those stupid popular new indie bands with stupid lyrics and stupid fans i think it was really good very catchy
A remarkable debut album. Out of all these songs, only "Midnight Show" is a little short of the goal, lacking the distinctive hooks and pathos that the other songs deliver in spades. "Mr Brightside" is, of course, basically a generational anthem at this point, with "All These Things That I've Done" and "Somebody Told Me" not lagging far behind in their ability to get a crowd singing along. I love this one!
Be still, my millennial heart.
Is this what it feels like to be a boomer listening to the Doors?
v good
California Teens (The O.C.) memories. How an album influenced by New Wave and Post Punk especially in that era where there was an explosion of groups like this could be wrong?Great vocals with a wide range, seminal drumming, guitar playing and fx,pads and synth wizadry. Favourites: Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine. The guitars alone kills me.Interesting drumming throughout, synths could have been better. Mr.Brightside.The dinstictive guitar arpeggio haunts me still. From ''Jealousy'' line and on it's just magic. Smile Like You Mean It.You know from the start how amazing this is.The refrain is not my favourite part, but as a whole is wow. Somebody Told Me.Banger. Andy,You're A Star.Mesmerizing and with darker tones,i love it.Bowie vibes. On Top.Epic synth, pads and guitars.Super emotional.U2 vibes at times. Change Your Mind.Pure bliss. Believe Me Natalie. What an atmosphere and with a great ending. Also a favourite. Everything Will Be Alright.Portishead vibes?Strange, dark and beautiful despite the title.A bit long and repetative at times though. Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll.Genius ending song. The bass has it's moments in this one.Maybe the screaming could be avoided but it's Indie Rock 'n' Roll for him. Great album. The Killers killed it. 5/5
Listened to it a millions times. Always great.
Awesome. Classic jam
Incredible album. Falls somewhat in the second half but brings it back with the last song.
A bit overplayed but no denying it’s a classic
EPIC Album! Nostalgia and memorable. Great songs
No. 20 I wouldn't call myself a Killers fan, since I wasn't aware I knew that many songs from this album. But it was certainly an amazing listen.
I love this album so much
It might be partially nostalgia, but this album is just full of bangers. Still love it.
Incrível!
I’m realizing as I grow and attempt to create things for me, The Killers are a massive influence on me. One of the most influential bands of my teens, and I’m so glad their work holds up. This is a stone cold classic. Zero skips, I’d listen to it every day of my life
Holy Caucasian what an album!
A classic album literally no bad songs 9/10 released in June 7 2004 it was their debut album. Singer is Brandon flowers also plays keyboard drummer is Ronnie vannucci guitar is dave keuning. Bassist is mark stoermer. overall great album ovi love Mr Brightside but stand outs are on top smile like you mean if somebody told me everything will be alright.
Great album 10/10
This album holds a special place in my heart. "Hot Fuss" was the first album I fell in love with instantly. "Mr Brightside" is overrated, and it overshadows the other tracks. Today, I was introduced to a song that wasn't on the "Hot Fuss" UK tracklist. It's a shame that the Killers never made an album like their debut again. 5 stars for "Hot Fuss".
reminds me of my childhood, fun moments tied to this album. lyrics are not overtly important or thought provoking but the songs are just straight up good family friendly fun. the first half of the album is exponentially better than the back half, however i will always love this album.
Already knew Mr.Brightside, obviously Forgot somebody told me was theirs (i think I enjoy the Måneskin version more) I thought all these things that I’ve done was black parade for a second lol Really liking Andy, you’re a star. Great album, will listen to again
This album is so fucking good. I listened to it every day for a year when it came out. I gave this to friends every time there was a gift giving opportunity. I love it. Every song kicks ass. Every single one could have been a single. It may be the best album of the decade.
Hot Fuss and The Suburbs were two of the first albums I ever remember hearing and loving, truly taste-defining. Has to be a 5* for personal value even though there are some tracks I prefer to skip.
White people album of the millennium
Great indie album. First of its kind
When nostalgia strikes
loved it
I mean the first 6 songs are all great. Not many albums on this list that can claim that.
10/10 no skip album. The Killers had one of the single greatest live shows I've ever seen. Incredible band and incredible album. Don't know why they haven't repressed this on Vinyl in a while. It's a must have Best Song: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. Rating: 10/10 Stars: 5
Indie perfection
purely Epic.
This is one of those albums that has that personal nostalgia and connection to it. It felt like the first sort of album that shifted my main listening habits, and one of the first that I fell in love with really. It’s a true no skip album, and also definitely the first concept album that I ever listened to. It probably taught me what that was in all honesty, and is still probably my favourite concept to date. I love believing that the story is real. I can understand how some of the start of the album feels overplayed, but I think that’s just it becoming a victim of its own success and quality, and it deserves its place on the wall of fame
Pretty much every track here is memorable. One of the better rock albums of the decade in every capacity- musicianship, production, hooks, and sound (while not the most unique, its still very recognizable.) Did not realize how great this album was until sitting down to listen to it. Super great stuff that instantaneously has become a classic for me
10/10 Really like it
A favorite! The first half of the album is so strong with all of their most popular singles, the last half not so much.
5 Stars for a perfect run of 5 opening songs. Hot take but literally only Thriller by MJ has better singles than this album, and even then it's close. This isn't even my favourite Killers album either.
Honestly in my top 5 albums of all time. Andy you're a star and All these things that I have done are stand outs on the re-listen.
Immense
9.4
Top 5 album of the 2000. A perfect masterpiece with no flaws. All songs are good. Its was something diferent when it came out and still holds up very well
🚨We are on 24-hour Killers lockdown🚨 Definitely not a perfect album, but I did very much imprint on it when I was 15/16 so I forgive all its flaws.
Neon guitar synth-rock with Vegas ambition. Every song sounded like it wanted to headline Glastonbury.
Great album!!!!
4.5 stars
10/10
arte, cineima, e musica 2. este album moldou minha infância e minha fase adulta. eu te amo the killers
Would have rated this a 6 if I could! The first half has the stronger hit singles, but the rest aren't anything to sneeze at either. Tracks to Track: Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, All These Things That I've Done, Change Your Mind
One of the best indie album from the heyday.
Favorite Songs: Jenny was a friend of mine, Mr. Brightside, Smile Like you mean it, all these things that I have done I have heard this album many times before and do really like the killers.
This album was on high rotation in my house when I had young children. We all loved it!
One of the best first halves in music. Jesus what a fucking run. The 2nd half is almost as good but it doesn't really have a hit and there's a couple okay songs. But this is still a 5 star record because the highs are insanely high and I like the drumming
The hype this album gets is well-deserved. Solid 5 Stars.
Of course it’s a 5. Hell, it could be a 10. I know how much acclaim this album has, even if I’ve never heard it in full before today. It’s impossible to have not heard “Mr. Brightside” at any point if you’re at least 20 years old, and if you’re really into Weird Al, it’s probably nigh impossible to have not at least heard the chorus of “Somebody Told Me”, though if you only know that snippet, you’re missing out. Those two tracks are the all-timer monster hits, and the rest of the album… surprisingly enough, a bit more varied than I would’ve thought. I’m really impressed by the slight blend of the garage rock style the early 2000s made famous with this sort of updated take on Talking Heads-era new wave / post-punk, especially in the synth work that makes a lot of this album pop. It’s easy to hear the two main hits & conclude that these guys were just another 2000s indie rock band with a garage lean that rode the wave, but that severely undermines just how damn good this all is. It is certainly one of those albums where the music speaks for itself, so I’m not sure I can add anything meaningfully new to the sea of opinions over the last 21 years that someone else hasn’t already written (or will soon write) some 1,000 words on, but I can try to add some quick, scattered opinions. “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” is obviously a perfect tonesetter & a great introduction to the band, but it does feel like it might set up expectations for more of a concept album, even if that thought is washed away immediately by “Mr. Brightside”. “All These Things That I’ve Done” is a little preachy, but I think it’s fine. Brandon Flowers’ vocals are great throughout this thing, even if I do wish he had a little more of an emotional lift on a few tracks – just ever so slightly monotone at points, you know? “Believe Me Natalie” is super fun, & it feels slightly ahead of pace for 2004, feeling like a slight foreshadowing of the synth-infused pop of the late 2000s. “Everything Will Be Alright” is just a little long for what it is, but I think the atmosphere works really well as a closing track. I think “Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll” would fit perfectly between “Andy, You’re a Star” & “On Top” if it were naturally in the album. I do wish there was just a little more variety in the soundscape; it's a breezy 45 minutes for sure, but it does blend together just a little bit after the high of listening has worn down. That's not a bad thing to my ears, it's just a testament to how "in the moment" this album can make a listener feel. And yeah, I think that’s all I really need to get out into the world. It’s a stellar album, and if you somehow haven’t heard it, just do it; it’s one of the most satisfying debut records of the decade, an instant rock classic, and a great 45 minutes where if you let yourself just rock the fuck out, you’ll never have a bad time. The only way you can hate this is if you have some deep-seated regret about the early 2000s & this album acts as some painful reminder of it. I would’ve been 4 when this dropped, so unless I tripped & fell in a Walmart while Mr. Brightside was playing on the speakers & forgot, I have nothing to link a bad memory to. This shit rules, man. It’s an easy 5, if not a 10. Banger after banger after banger, simple as that.
Great standard bearer for 2000's US rock.
Love love love
