Decent album will never get old to be honest. Love it!

really great album! i actually liked all the songs! my top favorites are: jenny was a friend of mine, somebody told me, mr brightside, on top, midnight show (instrumentals were just beautiful), smile like you mean it, and change your mind. now im regretting having been putting this off for too long, haha. but its alright ^^

Love it

Favorite Track: Smile Like You Mean It

Love The Killers, such a great band.

love thissss one of the first CDs I owned

sooooo goateddd i love it

What a banger. Peak mid noughties. 88/100 but 5* for nostalgia and the first half alone

Killer

One of the best

A nice balance of fun and edge that helps it stand out as a pop-rock album. Every song brings an energy that can be danced to or listened to. Some truly iconic songs from my childhood. Top tracks: Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I've Done, Everything Will Be Alright

Many of the songs on the album are still frequently played in 2024 and may be considered timeless as years go on..

This is a pretty perfect album

I really only dislike 'Jenny.' The rest are amazing. Full of classics, able to listen to it time and time and time again. That's a five in my books.

Awesome album. The first 5 songs on this album are phenomenal. There's a bit of drag in the deep cuts comparably, but the whole album is strong start to finish. It has some nostalgia factor, but that's what music is about. *****

So so good

The fuss is justified.

Soooooo goood!

A very good album from start to finish. For me this is 5 stars or A-.

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

Heavily influenced by New Wave and Post Punk, what's not to adore?

1. “I know that song, it’s good” 2. “I don’t know this song, but I like it” This album is chock full of 1s and 2s. Mix and you’ve got the recipe for great album.

it's the killers man idk what to say

All hits. How is this possible.

Phenomenal album. Wore this one out in the early-ish 2000s.

Great album.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Somebody Told Me (4) 2 - Midnight Show (10) 3 - Jenny Was A Friend of Mine (1)

This album has a ton of hits, which by itself is not necessarily an indication of quality, but even the songs I have never heard before are good to great. I loved the opening track, and even if the album drops off a bit towards the later half it rallies at the end. The Killers hadn't really been on my radar before, but they will be now.

I'm sick of Mr. Brightside. Even with that truth this album is amazing. Glamorous Indie Rock and roll is a reach, but every other song hits. Incredible album. These things that I have done with the most ambitious smash hit, Somebody told me is stupidly catchy, Smile like you mean it rock so hard. Their word play is not top teir, but doesn't need to be when the vibes are so immaculate.

I didn't realize how many songs I'm already familiar with on this album

BANGERS ONLY

This album rocks. It was my first time listening to it, and the whole album was pretty great. The stretch from Jenny Was a Friend of Mine to All These Things That I've Done is a barrage of ultra-hits which make it pretty hard to give this album less than a 4 off the bat. The rest of the album didn't disappoint, my favorite song past that stretch was Change Your Mind. It's hard to deny this album a 5. 9/10

A very formative album for me, and what an album to have that distinction. It's aged excellently, all the hits are still hits, just a really fun album to revisit. Favorite track: All These Things That I've Done

Big fan of The Killers in general, but this is undeniably an absolutely blinding album. Fire from front to back. Amazing that this is their debut album, I understand why many think it's their best. The drums, the synth, the bass, the guitar and the vocals are all equally delivering. The first track lets you know what you're in for from the get-go and it doesn't let up until the closer. I would definitely recommend listening to the version with both Change Your Mind and Glamorous Indie Rock n Roll if you can. This album is perfect example of early 00s indie synth-rock at its finest. If you're at all into that sound then it's a great listen but it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Always excellent. Sam's Town is great too!

Oh my, what an album. I had only heard three songs from this album prior to listening to it; Mr Brightside, All these things that I've done, and Somebody told me. I was blown away by this album. I absolutely love this style of rock and all of these songs to me were incredible. I wonder if there are more Killers albums on here? Guess I'll have to find out. 9 or even a 10/10 for me. #101

I remember when I first became aware of The Killers. Their set was televised at 2005 Glastonbury where they played most of this album. I loved their on stage energy and how just about every song was an instant sing-a-long classic. I immediately bought this album and still love it playing it regularly. Just about everyone must know the instantly recognisable guitar licks at the beginning of Mr Brightside a sure floor filler at any party. The Killers have gone on to headline Glastonbury and recorded many fine albums. Probably never bettered this one but running it close. A band still at their peak making good music with an enviable back catalog. And I can’t say that about many bands of the 2000’s. 5/5 25/6/24

Awesome

Banger after banger. Say what you will about The Killers, but this album effing rocks.

Brings back memories of the summer when this album was in heavy rotation. I really love every single track.

Great album… all these things and Jenny, great tracks

This is such a fantastic and influential album! Easy 4.5 for me

Awesome stuff!!

2004 was one of the first years of independent music discovery for me. I remember Fuse TV being on whenever my sister (Brandy) had the opportunity, so naturally I saw the music videos for “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me” more times than I can count. While 12 year old me was mostly excited that I was old enough to pick up that Brandon Flowers cheekily avoided saying “dick” in “Mr. Brightside,” I could also appreciate the music for being catchy as hell and sounding both retro and modern simultaneously. “Hot Fuss” is an album that is best remembered for its hit singles, and for good reason. The rest of the album is solid, no doubt, but few songs come close to reaching the same heights as “All These Things That I Have Done” or “Smile Like You Mean It.” However, “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” and “Everything Will Be Alright” are 2 non-single standouts. It isn’t perfect, but it is strong enough to warrant a 5 in my book.

Engaging right off the bat, I already really enjoyed a lot of The Killers' music, but this just confirms it's my style/tastes. 💖😭

Perfect early 2000s pop-rock album. very nostalgic for me so there's probably bias but I don't care. best song: All These Things that I Have Done

Stadium anthems

A monster indie rock album packed front to end with 2000’s bangers. Love the lyrics and vocals, and the rest of the band goes unbelievably hard. I’d heard many of the more radio-loved tracks, but was pleased to find the alternative magic spanned the whole record.

listened on 08/09/25 whilst looking for jobs

As a Fan of the killers I like this album, some of the ost iconic songs on here for me. I think the big songs from this are amazing and the gems that don't get as much notice are good too. hard to give it any less than 5

this is actually one of the most important albums to me ever sooo 5 stars obviously. mr. brightside you will always be famous <3

The Killers!

Man there are some real winners and some real losers on this album. Some of the catchiest pop songs of the early 2000s but there is some filler. At the end of the day five stars based on my very generous curve for five stars (basically anything I’d like to listen to again) and the huge nostalgia factor having graduated in ‘06.

Listened to it a lot when I was younger and appreciated it then, listening to it now, it feels better than what I remembered. Incredibly solid album throughout.

Enjoyed this one. Mr Brightside and Things the I've Done are classics.

Great album and makes me feel very old seeing that this came out 20 years ago! Gives me nostalgia for indie discos.. sticky floors, cheap student pints and washing the smell of smoke out of my hair the next day. Great times The music itself still sounds good: The obvious highlights are so ubiquitous now, especially Mr Brightside, but even listening to it on the train it's still clear why drunk people love to belt it out. There are plenty of other good songs though. Although The Killers leant increasingly into the stadium-filling anthems they're now know for on future records, you can see the clear potential for a 'big band' on Hot Fuss. Brandon has a great ear for a melody and the shimmering synths are a nice touch whenever they appear. I was surprised that it doesn't sound too 'of it's time' and enjoyed revisiting this a lot

Like I’m gonna give less than five stars to the album with Mr. Brightside on it? But seriously, love this one, sounds like being 13 again.

My love of the killers came from this album. Hot Fuss has one of my favorite album opening tracks EVER! Although Mr Brightside is definitely overplayed commercially, it's still a banger! I love the Killers and ALL their albums, with the exception of 'Imploding the Mirage' (🤮) and until 2021 this was my favorite Killers album. Obviously that title is now held by Pressure Machine. My favorite track is the least popular track on the album (according to spotify streams) 'Everything will be alright' All Killers - no fillers, its Indie rock and roll for me!

This album turns 20 in 2 weeks - I'll have to be honest it's the first time I've listened any Killers all the way through! When I first heard The Killers in 2004 I think I found it a bit too pop for my taste and wrote the band off - for too long obviously! I really enjoyed this album, it has some great tracks that I think could really grow on me! I was going to give this a 4, but I really fell in love with Andy, You're a Star - so it's a 5 from me!

I've heard this album before, but not listened to it for a few years. I'm much more familiar with the first five tracks, which must be one of the best runs to open an album ever, but I forgot how good the rest of it is. Yes, the second half isn't as good as the first, but all the tracks are really solid. Fav tracks: All These Things That I've Done, Smile Like You Mean It, Mr Brightside

One of the greatest side As of all time.

All timer. I bought this one on CD as a teenager. I’m so glad this challenge is having us listen to it all the way through. There’s some incredible work here. All These Things That I’ve Done is a favorite.

Just nothing wrong really with this album.

It’s just a good, classic millennial album. Fantastic jams and overall great listen.

They're not british but they are

Tough call for this one! Admittedly I've loved it for a long time and can sing along to the whole thing. But even acknowledging its influence and the worldwide smash hits it spawned, it felt hard to give it 5 stars. But on the scale of whether I plan to hear it again in this lifetime, the answer is almost certainly, so... It's something like a stage show in Las Vegas, its city of origin - undeniably glitzy, sparkling, dramatic, well-produced, and a hell of a show. Maybe not a place you want to park yourself for a lifetime - but listening 20 years on, Brandon Flowers still clearly oozes showmanship, but also seems to really grapple with the humanity of the best songwriters of the 50 years of pop songwriting that preceded him.

Almost gave it 4 stars but it is one of my favorite debut albums of all time. all the songs do sound the same production-wise, maybe (a kind of foggy/muffled kind of thing) but I think they're all so good

absolute banger. whips ass from the beginning and never stops. what a debut

Please stand up for the anthem of British Millenials

Favourite song - On top

A great new wave and synth pop revival album with killer synth and bass parts.

This album has so many hits on it, god damn. And they hold up pretty well today, too. Great album with some pop rock classics and one of my gateways towards indie rock. I hadnt really heard much from the backside of the album, but even that stuff is pretty great with On Top and Everything Will Be Alright standing out. Great music here.

Loved. First half of the album better than the second. Everything will be alright & All these things that I’ve done really hit

I really liked this album. It's got great energy from start to finish. It's consistent all the way through and I'd love to listen again.

oh fuck yes

One of my all time favorites. Helped me through a breakup once. Great all the way through; no skips.

This is, by far and away, the glamorous indie rock and roll Brandon Flowers croons about...

aw hell yeah my youth

My personal favourite album

Any band that achieves the kind of meteoric rise in pop music will instantly attract naysayers. The Killers may not be pushing any particular boundaries. And maybe they were (and still are?) overplayed. But when the dust settles, this is just a great album, filled with hits, even if it's not cool to admit it. The opening four tracks are a complete onslaught. While the second half doesn't quite maintain the same momentum, 'Hot Fuss' is still an impressive debut. Naysayers be damned.

Dużo znanych utworów

I'm super biased on this one. There is a 6-month period when I played this album probably daily in Middle School. But gyat damn this album slaps. I sang along to every song. This time around I realized how complicated drums are, which seems to be a characteristic of alt rock. Every song is unique af from all the others. I could go on and on.

Has Mr brightside but also the entire album is very good. I like the sound of the vocals, it brings a cohesive feeling theme to the album.

Banger after banger after banger. What more do you want? Can't believe this was taken off newer editions!

This takes me back to when i was 17 and would listen to this album on repeat. So many great songs on one record.

This is in my top 5 albums of all time, wall-to-wall bangers!

This is just an album of bangers from start to finish, throw in the nostalgia of listening to most of these when I was younger and it's a recipe for success.

very dreamy

Saw them live at the Troubadour in 2004, absolutely blew my mind as to how talented they are.

I've long since considered this THE definitive millennial album. I was 18 when this was released and had this album on heavy rotation for awhile. This is a straight classic from the mid-aughts. Anyone who denies that is ignorant.

i unironically enjoyed the hell out of this

tracks 1 to 4 are the best

It's just not possible for me to be objective about this album. Everything Will Be Alright and Believe Me Natalie have never been heavy rotation for me, and I vastly prefer the Sawdust version of Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll to the version on this album. But even with those caveats I cannot bring myself to lower my rating of this album, which is otherwise full of perfect and amazing songs

yay another 1 i already know. i actually own a physical copy of this one. 5

One of the all-time bests, no skips.

oh! something modern. Mr. Brightside is on this! This song hits the feels for me. When Wendy worked here, she and I got super close. Like really close. She is drop dead gorgeous. I was so extremely flattered that she would ever even give me the chance. I tell my wife all the time I could have had a chance with her. Marisol and I were going through some serious turbulence. Anyways long story short. Because of my situation, married with children, I missed my opportunity to Ryan. He came along and stole her away from me, got married and the rest is history. So that song is almost a perfect narration of that situation between the 3 of us at the park city cabin during that christmas party. Wow this album came out in 2004?? It's as old as Gabi! I remember Somebody Told Me playing at Tire Factory all the time. All The Things That I've Done is also on this!? Wow. lots of hits on this one. I never really listened to these guys by choice, only what ever was played on the radio. But they're pretty good! I'm enjoying this album and the memories it's brought. Giving this 5 stars. Everything Will Be Alright, is really good. Has some strong The Shins vibes.

This album IS high school.

Is this a great album, or was I an 11 year old kid just getting into music when this first released and it was inescapable at the time? Why not both? It’s relentless with its sequencing. My memory was that the last few tracks kind of sputter out before it sticks the landing, but that's definitely not the case. Maybe my tastes have just become more refined with time, because I actually love Side B more. I think the back half is why this album is even on the list. Sure, the singles were inescapable, but Side B is proof that the Killers acted as a Alternative subgenre-link for indie, dance, emo, and punk, and kind of played a bigger role in modern post-genre aesthetics than one might think. Not that the band itself meant to do that. This album is just serendipitous – right vibe at the right time. It also helps that, musically, this is tight as hell (especially the bass; I've been trying to play like this for nearly 20 years!) I mean, who am I kidding? I’m a Millennial alternative girl through and through. I’ve always adored this album. It’s weird, has a little something for everyone, and makes me dance. Some of my favorite songs of all time are deep cuts from this album (“On Top” and “Change Your Mind” specifically). Personal top 100 album; every listen inspires a full play through. Classic, no need for me to be snobby just because giving Hot Fuss a 5 makes me realize how old I am.

a formative opinion for young carlz... what more can be said

Great Album and fun band to see live!

Phew, a delicious treat to save me from the sub-par British crap this list seems to be littered with. Solid start to finish, A+

Rating: 10/10

classic

You've got some classic hits on this album between Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, and Change Your Mind. But even beyond that this album is solid throughout. I easily listened to this album back to back which to me is a mark of a good album.

A classic. No other way to describe it

One of the best debuts of all time

Great indie album

A Seminal album in my youth. There is a reason why Mr.Brightside was on the Billboard Top 200 for 20 years. The first side is straight bangers. 10/10. Side 2, I love, it’s not as good but still tons of energy, great melodys 9.0/10

Is it really only 1 album a day? This is going to take 3 years if so.

Love this album!!

An incredible, top tier album - "Hot Fuss" is the groundbreaking, debut album by American rick band the Killers. A mixture of new wave and post-rock, this album is commercially and critically successful. This album is chock-full of hits. While the later half of this album is unusual and kinda indie, this was one of the easiest reviews.

Fuck it, enjoyable

As a disclaimer, this one gets pushed into 5-star territory as it's one of my dad's favorite albums and something we would often listen to together during long car rides – definitely thankful I was exposed to relatively modern music for the time interspersed along with The Beatles or Led Zepp as we rode along together. No idea how this one ended up in my father's heavy rotation, but I'm sure glad as hell it did. That being said, this is a strong contender even without a nostalgia boost. Listening back in 2024, it's amazing how clearly this LP feels like a time machine to the sweaty nightclubs and jaded cynicism of the early aughts. Marrying guitar tones just a tad crunchier than The Strokes with a heavy (but not dated!) synth presence, this is so clearly an indie rock album from 2003 yet feels so timeless and modern even today. Distancing itself just slightly from the indie mainstream of the time with just a touch of glam and the aforementioned synths, the LP manages to evoke the period without feeling tied to the past, a bit of lightning in a bottle that The Killers have unsuccessfully tried to capture again on every preceding album. Perhaps it's the forward-thinking instrumentation, a healthy dose of straight rock guitar married to punchy, trebly basslines pulled from the dancefloor along with the synths. Maybe it's Brandon Flowers' vocal and emotional range, swinging from high to low with a touch of flair a la Mercury (but with tasteful restraint so as to never feel cheesy or ingenuine). Whatever seemingly grab-bag mix of artistry came together to make this LP just /works/, and even if the band never recaptures the grimy energy of the '00s they at least have this gem to point to.

One of my favorite albums of ALL TIME. NO NOTES, NO SKIPS

The Oasis of their generation, Mr Brightside their Wonderwall. This album is perfection and not a one hit wonder for the band, their follow ups were just as good.

First time hearing the entire album. I really liked it. Downloaded.

It’s my genre of music. It’s my generation. I should like this album, right? I almost have to, right? Well, I do. It did not disappoint. Every track was a masterpiece.

Dá pra perceber o estilo do rock da época impregnado nesse álbum, mas feito da melhor maneira possível Fav tracks: Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, All The Things I've Done, On Top, Change Your Mind, Everything Will Be Alright Least fav track: Andy You're A Star

So good !

I recognize this score is heavily influenced by nostalgia, but this album changed my life when it came out in middle school. “Smile Like You Mean It” was the most played song on my first iPod. The dense production, glamorous shimmery guitar tones, and sprinkles of synthesizers were exactly what I needed in 2004 and still brings me a lot of happiness twenty years later.

might be my favorite album of the 00s

This album was just a lot of fun! I found myself grooving along to every song on the album, and of course, singing along to “Mr. Brightside.”

thankful that this album was there for teenage me, who needed to be told everything will be alright so desperately i would listen to that track more or less on repeat for six consecutive months besides, it's back to back bops. smash.

i mean

This album was sent to me today to let me know it's okay that I spent a lot of money on going to see them play this album in August. I cannot say anything bad about this record! It was my entire personality for years! It led me to The Smiths, New Order, and so many other bands I love!

My mom loves the Killers so this album was on a lot in our house when I was growing up I remember being like eight and thinking the line “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier” was the deepest shit I think the second half of the album is weaker but all in all it’s still 5 stars

One of my all-time favorites

So I remember walking around NYC and seeing "Hot Fuss" plastered all over city. Construction facades, subway stations, billboards, etc. I thought, only in NYC can you get away with this. Then I realized, it's an F, not a P. I haven't gotten much smarter since. Anyway, so I'm in Perth for a few days many years later, looking for the big waves. I'm casually loitering outside and I happen to that they'll in concert across the street and so I happened to nab a ticket in the very last row of the stadium... Fantastic concert. Highlight was when they played "Don't Change" in tribute to MIchael Hutchence. Hot Fuss didn't end up doing too badly.

Though it has a little bit of a lull in the middle, its pretty amazing how strong the first 5 songs on this album are in addition to several other keepers. Catchy and enjoyable.

Just full of great songs. Only drags a little on the last two.

I already know I like the Killers. I didn't realize how many bangers are already on this album! Definitely an album to keep in regular rotation.

Mr brightside is a very very good song and along with the rest makes this a top tier album I give it a 10/10 for its good style and mixed music

Hot Fuss was The Killers in their golden era, what really is there to say? Maintaining their energetic alt rock style, dusted with country influence similar to that seen in "When You Were Young" from the album previous. Hot Fuss shows a distinct change in The Killer's sound that provided them a greater pop audience appeal, while maintaining the novel and eccentric style of Brandon Flowers.

Amazing album

They killed it!!!

Knew some of the songs from the radio however...was nice to listen to this album and find some more gems.

hell yeah.

If you skip Mr Brightside it's a 5/5

Great album

- Super nostalgic, and help up pretty well! - Playlist track: All These Things That I've done - Had a blast singing and listening to this with decent speakers for the first time!

my emo heart will always come back to this

Damn this album is good.

This is an amazing album, I don’t think there’s a bad song on this album.I love all these songs so much but obviosuly mr brightside is an enduring classic rock song but the same could be said about the whole album.

Love it as always

The Killers out here killing it: the amount of hit tracks on this are amazing. I feel they're a little overplayed and the culture that goes with them are a little cringe but still undeniably hit the spot. Mr Brightside will always be one of the best songs ever, thrown with just an overall reliable album it sounded very nice.

People may not like this for generational or pretentious reasons, but you won’t get either of those here!

Excellent albumn

love them

Bangers all the way through.

Classic ! But I can only listen to it every now and then.

apologies to the killers. i wasn't really familiar with your game.

Oh yeah

Fav song: somebody told me

Still a remarkably brilliant record, and one that is incredibly consistent. I’d say that there is not a bad track on the record, and even the weaker ones are clearly very good. It’s not a masterpiece, but banger after banger makes this a superb listen. A low 5 for me

One of my all time favorite albums. Killers released their greatest hits album first. Not a single bad track on this record. I only wish their later records even came close.

I forgot how much I liked this album, it’s been eclipsed by Mr Brightside - which as much as it’s been played to utter death still gets me to sing along at the end of a night out

Nostalgia aside, one of the greatest albums of the noughties for sure

A great debut album by The Killers, full of anthems, but I maintain that I've never been as disappointed by a band's 2nd (or 3rd, 4th etc) album as I am by this band.

Killed it.

Sehr gutes Album!! Dynamischer, kurzweiliger Rock. Habs mir nach dem ersten Mal noch ein paarmal angehört:) Die 3 Remixes am Ende des Albums sind auch sehr hörenswert.

Enjoyed almost all of it.

Modern day classic. The first time I really listened to this band was at Bonnaroo in 2018. Good memories, some great tunes on this one.

Classic. Banger after banger

Mr Brightside. Somebody Told Me. Change your Mind... This album is full of hits!

killer songs

It's pretty incredible how many hit singles are on the front half of this album. Some absolute bangers from the Killers that kind of defined the mid-2000s. The back half is filled with less hits, but no less memorable songs. Mr Bright side is the obvious highlight here, but Smile Like You Mean It and Somebody Told Me are classics that can sit right alongside. Maybe polarizing for some, but the Killers are an important band that really defined the time period and I think will remain a highlight from the early 2000s era

Fantastic album. Such a great era! Wish I’d listened to the killers more during that season of life.

Actually a really solid album. Some really good catchy songs. Very few ‘album tracks’ all are good standalone songs.

The 2000s were a pivotal era for music, witnessing the rise of indie rock and an explosion of innovative sounds. Amongst this sonic renaissance, "Hot Fuss" by The Killers stands as a beacon of musical evolution. This album, released in 2004, not only captured the essence of the times but also reshaped the future of music. With its electrifying blend of post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop, "Hot Fuss" breathed fresh life into rock music. The infectious hooks, anthemic choruses, and enigmatic lyrics struck a chord with listeners, making hits like "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me" instant classics. What truly sets "Hot Fuss" apart is its ability to traverse genres effortlessly, incorporating elements of dance and glam rock into a cohesive masterpiece. The album's impact is undeniable, as it inspired countless artists to experiment with their sound, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. In the annals of the 2000s, "Hot Fuss" by The Killers shines as a transformative force, an album that not only encapsulated the spirit of the times but also helped redefine the future of music. It remains a timeless classic, reminding us of the lasting influence that great music can wield

listened to this on the way to school, sister was driving. 2008. jamming tf out

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Solid.

COMING OUT OF MY CAGE AND I'VE BEEN DOING JUST FINE

Ég átti ekki von á að fíla þessa plötu svona vel, en þetta er svakalegt bangerasafn og skemmtilegt. Hlustaði oft og hún batnaði bara.

What an amazing album. I love this music, a good mix of new songs and timeless classics!

Back in 2016, Flowers admitted that he considered The Strokes’ debut album to be better than his band’s own ‘Hot Fuss’ –and previously told NME that he felt “depressed” after hearing ‘Is This It’ for the first time. “That record just sounded so perfect,” he said. “We threw away everything [we were working on] and the only song that made the cut and remained was ‘Mr. Brightside.’” It's a great story that Brandon ended up listening to Is This It at seemingly the perfect time, because he followed up that inadequacy he felt with the incredible Hot Fuss, which I think turned out even better than Is This It. Like a fine wine, it's aged well over the years, with Mr. Brightside becoming a party anthem and Somebody Told Me still getting airplay. It still has some flaws, though, so it's a tough choice between a 4 and a 5 for me. Let's walk through it Jenny was a friend of mine - Good opener, great song Mr. Brightside - Even though I've heard it a million times I never get tired of it Smile like you mean it - One of the weaker tracks on this album Somebody told me - Smash hit but, unlike Mr. Brightside, I get sick of this song All these things that I've done - I saw a take once that "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" makes no fucking sense and, frankly, I've got to agree. That tweet singlehandedly ruined this song for me, but, although it's corny, it's still a nice little ballad Andy you're a star - I would say this is a weaker one. I still don't really understand this song On Top - the horns at the beginning are abrasive, but once you're past that I think it's a decent song, but still one of the weaker ones on the album Change your mind - This song starts off a strong stretch to end the album. I've always loved this one and its tone that yins and yangs between gloomy and hopeful Believe me Natalie - The most underrated song on the album, it sounds and feels like a wonderful rambling drunk evening in NYC Midnight show - DRIVE FASTER BOOOOOOOY Everything will be alright - A mediocre closer, it's still got some moments as it ends the album with a haziness that engulfs the listener All in all, this album has been around and on my rotation for a good portion of my life ever since I picked up the CD at a Best Buy as a 10 year old kid with my best friend at the time. The album was a 5 for me then, that same kid is still my best friend today, and Hot Fuss is still a 5/5 today.

(Previously heard) Highlights: Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, All These Things That I've Done, Andy You're A Star, Change Your Mind The fact that Mr. Brightside isn't even a top 5 song here is a testament to how great this album is. As nice as their next two releases were, they don't come close to what they accomplished here. Maybe not the best album of the 2000s indie rock scene, but certainly one of the best.

i've already listened to a couple songs before this and i liked them both well and the rest is also good normally even with the 5 star albums i don't really listen to them after but this one feels like something i actually would put on in the background

MR BRIGHTSIDE!!!

Masterclass

I said MGMT was pure millennial-core. I have have spoke too soon. Killers one of our last great American rock acts. Most of this one is all-timers

- An alt rock CLASSIC - First half has all the hits, but the second half is underrated - On Top is my favorite - 4.5

- I mean the first 5 songs are all incredible hits that defined a generation of music - even the less popular songs are fun and interesting - 4.5 but rounding up for its cultural significance and impact on my music taste

Classic of its genre, in the Joshua Tree vein where all the singles are on Side A so Side B at this point may have more to give on future listens

The best album from the Indie Rock era, period. The only song on this album I’m not a big fan of is “Everything Will Be Alright”.

The best British indie band to ever come out of the US. Seriously though, what a debut. Not quite Arctic Monkeys level debut but close to it. On Top verges on perfect song territory.

Hot Fuss is right....The Killers were everywhere after this album

This album is incredible. I’ve always loved it and now that I’ve read the Wikipedia and learned that the Strokes’ masterpiece “Is This It” is indirectly responsible for Mr. Brightside It’s even cooler. In fact The Killers almost seem like the slightly peppier younger brother of the Strokes. Both excellent. I hadn’t heard “All These Things I’ve Done” in a long time and truthfully it made my day

Already loved this album, was psyched to see it here

No skips, kinda chill but energetic at the same time

It is just a perfect album! Amazing every single time and it absolutely still holds up.

Loved this on release, loved it still now

Instant classic for me. So nostalgic. I remember going to see them headline one of those NME tours with Bloc Party, Futureheads and Kaiser Chiefs

A favourite of mine although it was my first time listening to the album as a whole. I am biased but this is a great indie/rock piece.

What is it with these Millenials retro-judging bands they used to rave about but now deem 'untrendy'. "I wouldn't be caught dead listening to them" (see what I did there?) This is a killer album (and again!) and nothing detracts from the impact it had at the time or the vibrancy of the songs. Heavily influenced by the late 70's New wave sentiment and almost anthemic in quality the first half is one hit after another. This is truly a great album. We'll see in another 20 years whether it still stands up as one of the greats? It's Indie Roll n' roll for me.

I mean, just for the severe stranglehold this held in music in the 2000s, this earns its spot.

I’ve got ham but I’m not a hamster.

i've got ham but I'm not a hamster

Fantastic album!

This was honestly great. The first half was "Killer" and the second half fell off a bit but not a single song I didn't like.

This album is almost 20 years old and still feels like it hasn't aged a day.

Good guitar and drums, and incredible energy throughout. With the hits on side A, I was worried it would lack side B but I enjoyed throughout. Let’s pretend the second to last track just doesn’t exist though.

Classic 1st album brilliance. The Killers announce themselves with a complete piece of work that others can only gawp at in awe.

Going into this album, I was fully expecting it to be pretty lame outside of Mr. brightside and somebody told me but man was I wrong. The whole album was quintessential 2000s alt rock and still holds up despite being played to death for almost two decades now. I've heard Mr. brightside at every single party I've ever been to since I was in high school and all through college and it never fails to blow the roof off regardless of the vibe leading up to the point where you hear the opening riff. As for the other tracks, the first half up to all these things I've done is non-stop banger after banger while the second half really shines in the final two tracks of the whole album. It's a landmark in its genre and rightfully so.

Of course I have heard “Mr. Brightside” and other singles by The Killers, but I hadn’t really learned much about them until now. It’s interesting that their albums are even more popular in the UK than the U.S., because they sound very much like a neo-punk or new wave English Band. In fact it reminds me of The Arctic Monkeys debut album debut studio album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which I heard earlier. It’s not the same, but there are similarities. I love this type of melodic punk.

Mr Brightside is a bit annoying after you’ve heard it a zillion times, but I have to concede that the first half of this album is relentless, banger after banger. The second half is pretty good as well, it only seems weak compared to the first half.

Always good - no notes

You know what, I like this album more and more as the years go by. I thought this was a fun album when it came out and now I think it is close to perfect. I still regularly listen to it nearly 20 years on where other bands from the same era are not shown the same love. There are some cheesey moments but that just adds to the appeal

Iconic album. Mr. Brightside, All these things that I've done are favorites.

classic

Topplaat in de indie-rock!

very cool

Somebody toold meee you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that i had in feeebruary of laaast year Ik hoor alleen maar bangers

Magnificent!

Absolutely loved it - what a throwback

det är otroligt bra

I can't help it. I've had this album on repeat since 2004.

Even having its lows, an already legendary album, fully packed by timeless hits

Love the Killers! Love this album & would listen anytime.

One of my favorite albums of all time

Really dig this. Great indie rock. 5/5

I can imagine listening to this again

My first Killers album. This album has a deep grained meaning for me. I had put it onto my mp3 player and listened to to the Hot Fuss album religiously along with The Coral Magic and Medicine album back in 2004 and 2005 before and after my brain tumour surgery, so they are etched in stone in my head forever as awesome albums that got me through a difficult time.

Its got a ton of hits and keeps it pace from start to end.

One of my favourite albums of the century so far. Full of songs that were everywhere when I was a student, so always nostalgic for me. However, hard not to hear Bill Bailey singing about hamsters, in the back of my head. A brilliant album

One of my favorite albums of all time. Such bangers from the get go, including everyone's favorite, "Mr. Brightside". One of the easiest 5 stars I could give. 10/10.

Mr bright side rises

One of the best debut albums ever. Hasn’t aged at all and sounds as good on the 100th listen as it does on the first.

S - MARK NEEDHAM!!!!! Your boyfriend looks like my girlfriend

A god damn classic. No ifs, ands, or buts. A soundtrack. A moment in time. Catchy as hell songwriting.

It's a very solid early 2000's alternative rock album. I know it's not perfect but it's one of two albums that got me really into music as a serious hobby and not just something that plays in the background or in the car. Also it's got to be one of the greatest debut albums of all time.

Classic indie songs. Every white boy's wet dream. Can't not sing along. I'm not even sorry. All these things that I've done ✔️ Mr Brightside ✔️ wasn't sure whether to go for it. But 5 stars it is

I GOT SOUL BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER

top heavy but fuck it LETS GOOOOO first 5

Sonzao, bom voltar a curtir fim atenção

Yey, finally a nice album after a long string of mediocre at best albums. This one definitely has a few bangers and some nostalgia value associated with those as well, but it's the first time I'm hearing this one in it's entirety. The album does get weaker on the second half and I'm a bit on the fence about rounding the whole thing up to 5 stars. But the first half really is pretty great and the album seems like it has quite some re-listening value.

This one's on a very short shortlist for *the* album that soundtracked my generation's high school years, and, while that probably influences my opinion of it, I reckon any generation could do a lot worse. The four singles range in hugeness from *occasionally overlooked but everyone still knows all the words* (Smile Like You Mean It), to *automatic singalong at any event anywhere for the rest of time* (Mr Brightside). Then there's the strength in depth: non-singles like Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, On Top and Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll are cut from the same anthemic cloth as the hits, while I've always have a soft spot for icy-but-comforting tones of Everything Will Be Alright, too. The Killers are distinguished survivors of the 00s indie scene Hunger Games, possibly through sheer force of will and stadium-sized ambition, but also because they just have more good tunes than most of their competition.

Iconic, genre defining

Pretty shocked this album made it on the list. The debut album from the killers held nothing back. The first half of this album is pretty amazing. Mr brightside I’d a great song and unfortunately has become so overplayed now. This album is pretty nostalgic as I listened to it many times since it released and still do from time to time. The songs are catchy, fun and a good mix of the new wave sound with the modern melodic punk of the 00s. They were one of my favorite bands and this album is why. 9.1/10

I thought to myself, "I don't know that I've actually listened to a Killers album before..." And then I hit play and realized that, while I may have never listened to a Killers album, I KNOW these songs. "Hot Fuss" managed to so thoroughly saturate American culture that I knew the hooks to easily half of the tracks, if not more. And, it turns out, all the other tracks all slapped. Shockingly good. Zero criticisms.

Amazing yes front loaded as fuck but amazing 5/5

Boy oh boy. Hot fucking Fuss. What a record. I will preface my review by saying my view of this album is certainly influenced by the set/setting of when I first heard it. In other words, there is most certainly a nostalgic factor to this album that drives the inevitable 5/5 I am giving this album. But, with that being said, this album holds up regardless of the fact that this was a staple of my youth. A CD that spent so much time in my dad's old stereo blaring Brandon's pipes at higher-than-necessary volumes to a 6th grade me playing Diablo 2 on the family PC continues to follow me into what will soon be 30 year-old Joey (still playing Diablo 2, however on the Switch this time). The Killers were at the top of their game when they made this album, and their fearless ambition and raw talent shine through in every note. In their debut album. Their DEBUT ALBUM. From the opening of "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" with an intro that always reminded me of a weird space helicopter landing to the final moments of the slow dance reminder that "Everything Will Be Alright" this album hits. And it hits hard. The wobbly 80s synths, the guitar riffs, the BASS riffs, Brandon's lyrics and the voice that delivers them (his performance on "Andy, You're a Star" is my highlight), the groovy drum beats. It's all a part of something big and lasting. Infectious melodies and harmonies that continue to inspire pretty much any of the alt-rock music I write. Hot Fuss is a work of pure artistry, an iconic collection of songs that will follow me to my grave. To me it's not just an album, it's a musical journey that takes me through a series of diverse soundscapes, each one more captivating than the last. A familiar sonic scent that instantly teleports me back to simpler times without fail. With its stunning production, insightful lyrics and unforgettable fucking BANGERS, it’s no wonder that this classic album still holds up as one of the greatest records of the 2000s. PS: If your streaming service (or physical copy!) doesn't have Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll on it, go check it out on Sawdust.

I've been a fan of the Killers since before I knew who they were and why they were singing about a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend from February of last year. Despite all that, I'd never listened to this whole album as such. It is quite an amazing debut album with a fine selection of deservèd hits.

I had never listened to this album and, if asked, I am not sure that I really even knew the name of the band from the couple of singles that I did know. I really enjoyed the album.

In 2004 I wandered into a Montréal CD store and bought this album after hearing Somebody Told Me playing in the store. It was love at first listen as The Killers became one of my favorite bands. Hot Fuss is an exceptional album. Great guitar, great synths, and that unique Brandon Flowers delivery of great lyrical stories create a whole lot of fun… so many great songs on this incredible debut!

Amazing debut album. Definitely nostalgic for the early 2000s.

Such a banger! I’d forgotten how great The Killers are. This was so good I listened twice through. I need to add this to my regular rotation.

An album I am pretty familiar with, and an interesting double header with Born In The USA. Mr. Brightside is a slick hit. All These Things That I've Done is another one. This whole album is one hit after another, so smooth and polished it's like an orb. Ponder the ORB!

This album is an absolute must-listen for music fans. It has two songs from the "Murder Trilogy" and there is not a bad track on this album. "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" has a fantastic bass line and though 7 of the songs exceed 4 minutes, they never drag.

One of my favorite albums of all time

One of the best albums

About as good of a debut album as you can ask for

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The Killers had such a great sound and were so tight on this album. There's a reason the first 5 tracks on this album are not just hits, but an iconic representation of the era. It's so good.

This list went ahead and assigned me this album like I haven't had it in heavy weekly rotation for 18 years running

Weaker 2nd half

ótimo

Cool Album!

Already <3 the killers

Full of bangers. First half of the album is just an instant classic.

All the hits at the start but I'm enjoying the variety of the second half. Believe Me Natalie is such a U2 homage, while Everything Will Be Alright is wistful and hopeful. Meanwhile the closing song is just hilarious.

Great album

🤘🏻🔥

One of my favorites of all time

Great, start to finish. Final track on Spotify isn't one I'd heard before though. Extended?

"I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier." Top album!

I had no idea that this album told a story at all. Does that make it a rock opera? Either way, this album is full of hits, but now that I know there is an on going character story behind the songs, this is one of my favorite albums.

21st November 2022 Listened at the end of the day while doing minimal work cos of the World Cup. England beat Iran. One of the albums from when I grew up, immediately makes me feel 15 again.

I love this album so much. It takes me back to a time where I worked in a small office and we played new albums and burned each other’s copies. A guy called Jon broadened our music tastes and we played Hot Fuss a lot. I can still sing along to almost every song…

amei !!!!

I love

Liked this a lot - though hard to follow up all of the really strong singles at the start of the album! Nothing felt like filler though.

Franz Ferdinand i The Killers van ser els líders d'aquella nova empenta. El primer disc dels de Las Vegas és el millor dels que es van editar aquells anys, una ristra de singles imponents, amb una producció grandiosa que els feia encara més efectius. Un dels grans discos dels '00's

An absolute belter. This is one of the best albums of the 2000s, if not of all time. It's interesting to see what The Killers have become since, but this is them in their rawest, most indie incarnation. From the banging bassline in the opener, Jenny was a Friend of Mine, through the spectra of emotions of Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It and Somebody Told Me and beyond, this album soundtracked my early 20s and brings back memories of drunken house parties; the first throes of independence.

I fucking love this album, can’t give it a perfect score though since the first half is pretty clearly better than the second. So, 9/10

What a debut. 9/10

the best.

This is a properly great album to listen to. Sure, it wasn’t in innovative when released. Just Brit inspired indie rock and roll. But I like this kind of music and it’s a great example of the genre.

Tellement imprévisible le type

Good to hear again

De los mejores álbumes de la década siendo pieza clave en el resurgimiento del rock de los 2000, con sonidos pop-rock e indie rock, además de tener una de las mejores canciones del siglo 21, "Mr Brightside".

I had a very strong emotional response to this album. It's funny how music has the power to being back such a strong sense how you used to feel, not even just about the song but in general? When we had nostalgia albums in lockdown I kind of couldn't bear them, because they reminded me of like connection and my friends and family and I was lonely so I found that to be really painful. I enjoyed it this time though, which is good and means I'm in a better place! Also 'all these things that I've done' reminds me of bill baileys parody 'ive got ham but I'm not a hampster' 😅. I have absolutely no idea how I would feel about this album if I listened to it for the first time now, I can't seperate it, but as things are I enjoyed it. Got a bit bored of the smile like you mean it remixes but felt I had to listen to the end.

One of those albums which I played a lot when it first came out but which I don’t think I have listened to as a whole for over 20 years. It’s a bit dominated by its hits (especially *that* one) but overall it’s held up pretty well.

First five songs are amazing. Falls off after that.

Definitely a nighttime album. Listened at 9 PM while biking around suburban Minnesota in 80 degree weather, probably the exact environment the band imagined people playing this album in. First five songs are instant classics. Love the horn sounds in Believe Me Natalie.

Holy hell. The mega hits are so fucking fatiguing in hindsight here. Also why do we all have bad core memories to Mr. Blindside. Nah but these dudes really nailed the formula for college rock man. Despite how annoyingly overplayed a lot of this shit is, they just had that IT factor to get everyone to bump this shit. I’m quite surprised with how enjoyable some of the deep cuts are. It’s nothing spectacular, the writing is pretty mid, it’s just fun 2000’s indie pop rock. On the other hand, it feels like they are the modern ACDC. Just spamming the same basic ass formula that worked on a couple singles over every single song. Seriously why does half this album just feel like one long song? I haven’t dug deep enough into the killers to know if they were one album wonders, but it honestly wouldn’t surprise me. Fav song: glamourus indie rock & roll Update: Apparently Brandon Flowers cosplays as Bruce Springsteen now. Jesus.

Nocturno. Cada canción parece ocurrir a las 3am cuando la ciudad sigue encendida. Romantiza el momento en el que la euforia comienza a a ser disipada con el amanecer.

I mean, 4 songs in, this is a generational album. Maybe defined kings of leons whole career but it’s better and more anthemy. It’s very hard to make interesting good anthem rock but this is it. Mr brightside is obviously one of the best songs ever. Somebody told me also. It’s like more new wavey strokes. Still good throughout but the beginning of the album is for sure better. Underrated rhythms across the whole album I never really noticed the at with the killers. Overall the album slows down from the beginning but still just high level of quality. The production can be a bit much at times but that’s nitpicky I really like the melody’s. Chantable and good. This is a 4

343/1001 The Killers - Hot Fuss Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ One of those pivotal albums that turned me into a music fan. Yes, I played it to death and Mr Brightside still gets a hell of a lot of airtime and yes, it's very top heavy, but I still love this.

Nostalgia bomb from the early 2000s. The first half is full of hits. 4/5

One of the most important albums in my life - the first side of it soundtracked my early teenage years, they were the first concert (after a dozen or so) where I got right up close and I discovered that there's more to music than classic rock and Metallica! Such a tight album, amazing bass. Evocative.

Mr Brightside is such a classic + HM to Andy you're a star

week second half keeps this from hitting a 5
