Reviews (page 11 of 14)
Through all the nostalgia it’s easy to forget that Green Day makes such garbage music until you have to listen to an entire album.
Reminiscent of what I used to listen in my teenage years but after a while the songs all began to sound the same. Burnout is far too relatable right now.
Not my cup of tea mas já conhecia algumas músicas que gosto
I think I gave American Idiot 2 stars and I liked this more.
i’ve listened to songs before and i like this album! it’s good not really my cup of tea when it comes to everyday listen but if it’s on then i like it stand outs : basket case, welcome to paradise, when i come around 7/10
a few songs did stand out to me like chump and welcome to paradise but I don’t see them being songs that I’d just listen to regularly. Deffo a good album though just not completely my taste
Green Day c'est cool, mais peut-être pas leur meilleur album, un peu répétitif
will happily listen to this :3! i love green day but i don’t think i’ve ever listened to this album fully. i have it on cd though. i remember covering longview in college having to sing about masturbating for three minutes brev. ok finished solid album didn’t change my life but that’s ok
2-3 classics but repetitive.
No me impresionó demasiado
I've never been a big Green Day fan. Listening to this you can draw a straight line to all the influences the pop-punk bands I hated in high school tried to copy/paste. This is clearly better, but I don't think it's for me. I'm not sure if this is derivative of Stiff Little Fingers, or an evolution. Either way, I don't hate it, but I don't ever foresee myself uttering the phrase "hey, put on some Green Day". That said, "Basket Case" is a nostalgic classic. If I was 13 in 1994, this album would have been my prized possession. Listening this made me dive into their other stuff. They have a lot of hits you forget about. I actually really liked their first record (1,039 / Smoothed out Slappy Hours) because its much less polished.
OK
The classic popular songs are still great. The other songs are just..... Other songs. Filler. Skippable
Not bad. A lot of the tracks too similar to each other, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Favourite Track(s): Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise Least Favourite Track(s): All by Myself, Chump
Twas grand
Pretty much exactly what I thought a Green Day album would sound like, knew a few more songs than I thought
if i could give it 3.5 i would. not a bad album at all just not very enticing either. none of the songs make me think omg i have to listen to that over and over again. good guitar.
Поп-панк никогда особенно не прельщал.
Listenable.
Meh. Not sure what the fuss is about. Fine but nothing special.
Blah blah blah, then it comes into focus on Longview
I have never actively listened to Green Day. Of course they are very famous, especially when I was growing up, so I've heard them a lot on radio and such. I honestly got nothing bad to say about them. It's very "safe" music to me. A bit nostalgic and reminds me of good times. As this is the first album I listened to from start to finish I would probably classify it as good background music. Probably would be really good driving music. But maybe if I listend to it more I will appreciate it more. I added "Welcome to Paradise" to my playlist. 3/5.
Diferente do que eu costumo ouvir, mas tem uma melodia agradável. Vou salvar para escutar mais vezes e Introduzir algumas musicas na minha playlist.
An okay album
It was good but didn't stand out to me
Derivative and annoying
Disappointed to report that those other kids were right and that green day are better than red hot chilli peppers. Still not going to listen to this again though.
c.2002 I listened to a pirate copy of International Superhits on my CD Walkman so much that it must have put a dent in the world’s supply of AA batteries. 2years later American Idiot was out. All the boys in school wore eyeliner and gelled their hair in spikes. I steered clear of Green Day ever since. Expected to hate revisiting this. But I didn’t. Not groundbreaking but fun pop music deserving of its place on this list.
Fine enough punk music. I enjoy it, but it isn't anything crazy or something I'm gonna put on again anytime soon. The popular tracks (Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, Longview, When I Come Around) are really the only ones that one needs to know. I'm also not a big punk guy, so while I understand this is a seminal pop-punk record, it isn't for me.
Some fun stuff
J’ai jamais vraiment trippé sur Green Day, je suis donc peu surpris de trouver leur album fétiche juste correct
Never my favorite 90s record, but the singles were fire.
I get why it was big at the time, but it is not for me
An alright rock album. I have definitely listened to worse.
I had heard Basket Case and When I Come Around before this listen through. I found it really hard to enjoy the first 3 songs on the album. Green Day has their sound and those three tracks sit in the same place for me. When we got to Longview I appreciated the difference in vibe at the very least in the beginning of the song. From then on the album begins to shine a bit brighter, though there are some forgettable tracks that come up after. I had to go relisten to Sassafras Roots because I had forgotten if I had listened to it. I had come to Green Day during American Idiot and though they were never a mainstay in my musical tastes they were always on the periphery. This album in my mind exemplifies why. They are clearly competent in their music but they are some songs that are just kinda in here to be in here. The songs that feel like they are just here to be here are well produced noise. Even if it’s well produced noise I enjoy, its hard for this album to be a full 5/5 based on the fact that for me this album is destined to be dissected for a playlist, taking the bangers and leaving the mash. After the last few albums though I will say I really appreciate the brevity of these songs. They know what they are and they know when that magic wears off. They never overstay their welcome and I really appreciate that in a post Tommy listen through. Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, and Longview are my top favorites while All By Myself makes it way to the very bottom.
I think it’s… good. It’s nowhere near as good as American idiot, though I may be biased considering that’s one of my favorite albums. But yeah perfectly fine, not a ton more than that. Favorites: Longview, Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around
Hugely popular back in the day. Very catchy and clean punk pop. 3/5.
Fair album with some high spots. It's fun and where it lags it's merely because it is a fun punk album with literal slow spots. I don't want those when I have such fun driving highs.
Enjoyable but repetitive
Fun 3 chord bops, catchy hooks. A probable catalyst in getting punk into the mainstream. Although Green Day isn’t my favorite band ever, I recognize their influence on modern music and I would listen to this album again. This album doesn’t have enough dynamics I feel like, as a whole.
This was a part America’s Britpop (AKA, the soundtrack to the cultural milieu of GenX’s 1990s)
Pop punk never had it so good. Nothing profound here, just solid musicianship, good production, perfectly propulsively attuned to youthful sensibilities. Definitively catchy.
Some very fun, catchy tunes. All by myself reminded me of After Hours by the Velvet Underground- the same naive sweetness to end a raw album.
I like Longview but ultimately his voice bugs me before I get too far in any song.
Takes me back. Would be a solid 7 for nostalgia reasons. Getting 3/5. Losing a mark due to having a member with the stage name Tre Cool....his real name is Frank
Nice nostalgic punk pop
This one was fun, but a little superficial. Dolly put it really well and I think there was just something missing... music without a soul. I dunno, maybe I'm being unfair!
Punk
There are elements of this I like. It's fun in places, and teenagers need something to let it out with. But it just feels a bit empty to me, and did even when I was young, when it came out. I enjoyed the rhythm section this time. I didn't finish it but that's more to do with how impossibly busy I was yesterday. It's more of a 2.5.
Just a bunch of frustrated american schoolboys complaining about their mum.
Distinctly remember getting this one from a friend 10 CDs for a penny ad, haven’t listened to GD voluntarily in a long while. I liked how the bass and drums sounded together, particularly on Paradise.
Favorites: Burnout, Longview, Basket Case, Sassafras Roots. Makes me feel like I'm a silly teenager in 90s, who's going through it. Which was the goal, i think. The sound itches my brain and ears in a somewhat right way, but doesn't impress me that much! Lazy and kinda repetitive, honestly. Something to put in the background, just for it to drain all the other sounds around, but nothing more, you know?
The assembly hall at Ordsall secondary school was classic early 60s brutalist. Stage to the north of the room, tall enough to give the teacher leading the assembly an intimidating air; an access corridor leading to the changing rooms on the west side; the south a confused multifunctional area that hosted a row of vending machines and a foosball table; then the east facade all glass, two seven foot panels and a third of maybe four feet, stretching floor to ceiling. Entirely necessary since Retford, North Notts, exists in a sort of permanently crepuscular state. As much light as you can allow in, you must. I might have only been at the school for a couple of years before I moved to Australia and it was demolished, but that hall has an outsized kind of presence in my memory. I remember sitting there in mute horror while a teacher played back CCTV footage of an assault perpetrated by a classmate on the back seats of a local bus. I remember being entirely flummoxed by a visiting drama group who seemed to actually disband before our startled eyes, shouting at each other in a way that couldn’t have possibly been role play or simulation. I got my TB jab there. I sat a series of exams in there, ones that I’d never hear the results from since I was emigrating a week later (shame, there was a creative writing exercise based on a crime syndicate I’d have liked feedback on). I ate too many Refreshers too many times. I cemented friendships passing headphones back and forth. It was in that room that I had my first properly ecstatic experience with music, too. A battle of the bands where the sixth formers traded blows through the relatively gentle means of power chords and pitchy vocals. Up on that impressively tall stage, though, they were fucking mint. I crowd surfed to a cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit and felt so brilliantly energised that if I sit still and think about it I can still feel the spark. (A recording of the night that did the rounds very clearly showed the silhouette of my 12 year old body skimming across the crowd with an utterly possessed rhythm – joy.) It was that night that I first heard Green Day’s “Basket Case”, there ably performed by local heroes Latchkey. I just hadn’t until then come across much by Green Day; we didn’t have Sky and I didn’t have an older sibling. I could’ve sung you Hybrid Theory in reverse, but Green Day didn’t seem to be much but Blink-182 without the (sic – thought I certainly didn’t think so at the time) absolutely hysterical jokes. Dead wrong. It was, in that moment and in every listen since, a magical song. The sort of self-effacing that puts a smile on your face; the sort of punk that makes more the sense the louder it’s played; the sort of song you don’t get bored of hearing. I don’t like Green Day. I might even really quite dislike Green Day. But that song (along with a couple of others on this record: “When I Come Around”, “Longview”) are undeniably special. Genre defining, epoch shaping, pop punk monoliths. It’d be something, I guess, to be reading this as one of the kids who played that night at Ordsall Hall. I’m certain not a single person who stood there, staring down at their fretboards or floor toms, thought anything they were doing could possibly mean so much to anyone who’d been there. But that’s what happens when it all comes together. As a soundtrack to the thrill of being a teenager, it’s hard to top.
Better than I remember but still not my thing!
not as good as when i was 16. there are bangers here, yet little to no variation between songs. nevertheless, it’s nostalgic and heartwarming. 3.5/5
Y si os digo que nunca me gustó Green Day especialmente?
Great 90’s light punk
Recognized more songs than expected
3/5
I think this one is good. I really like some of the songs. I prefer early Green Day to the later stuff. 3 stars.
I never liked Green Day, even when it would have been cool for me to be in to them at about 13. Still not that keen, but I don't hate it. It's just been done a lot better by other artists. I think this does deserve to be on the list though.
Better than I expected
Couple of tracks I go back to every now & then.
I never had a personal connection to 𝘋𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘦 back in the 90s or 00s, but if I had stumbled on it then, I probably would have played it endlessly. Listening now, this kind of pop-punk just doesn’t grab me anymore. 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘦 is easily the standout track — and no surprise it became Green Day’s signature song until 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘐𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘵 came along a decade later. An important album for the genre and for 90s alternative/indie history, sure, but one I can only appreciate from a distance.
Few bangers but overall fairly mindless - understanding this is their first album and not their greatest
3.5
Better than I remembered, pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think I like green day, but this is the peak of pop punk (it peaked very early)
Not a huge Green Day fan or pop punk for that matter but this album is full of hits and Green Day's drummer is named Tre Cool!
This is an interesting one for me because I have never listened to this album in full, yet I’ve 100% played out other Green Day albums. It’s pretty good for a debut album but outside of the obvious hits nothing really sparked me. Good groundwork laid though for future incredible releases.
3+ Stars (9/15)
fine album. Not as great as everyone else says. But for Pop Punk it is good with a few classics such as "Longview", "Welcome to Paradise", "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around" 3.5
Got some banger songs on it. All my fav pop-punk wouldn't exist without oldies like this. ;)
Asked Santa to get me this album a long time ago. He never did, so I have never forgiven them. I like the singles. 3 Heard before? Yes, the singles Owned: Yes. /91001, 9/38 (23%) Will I get?
I don't think I'm angsty enough these days for adolescent punk. Basket Case still holds up pretty well though.
I like the hit songs, the rest is a bit all the same. 3.5 stars rounded to 3
Volume @ max and scream out your problems! DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO DAD!! Loaded with bangers, these are the songs of my generation. Love those base lines 🫶 those drums don't stop holy moley Love Greenday too. They brought punk to the masses and stayed true to real defiance of the fascists that be ✊️
Adolescent, fun yet a bit repetitive
This is Green Day's second album for me in this project. Unfortunately, it didn't fulfill my perhaps too high expectations. I liked this kind of American punk better from other bands. Too bad. 3/5
Perfectly pleasant listening, but the album tracks are truly album tracks.
Fun pop punk record. Couple cracker tunes, then a couple dull songs. Middle of the road for me but one can't argue the influence it ended up having. Great production, very well executed but all a bit samey
Overall felt one-note to me. Feels like we needed more songs like "All by Myself" to break up the tone. The album name is hilarious. And I somehow didn't know they were recording starting all the way back in '91.
Ok - not my fave
they should have stuck with this deeply unserious stuff
skroz kul
I do not listen to much punk rock but I enjoyed this album. I can see this would appeal to those who are fans of this genre. This album has some strong songs, but the rest of the album was good, buy nothing special. No bad songs just nothing else that knocked my socks off. Very close to a 4 but some more noteworthy songs could have brought it to a 4. Definitely peaked my interest in Green Day.
Great introduction to Green Day and a must if anyone is new to this group who have been around for decades. Good listen.
Yep, it's Green Day. Bright, brash, cheeky and tuneful, understandable why it was such a huge kerplunk into mainstream music. A ton of bands sounded like this, but like Nirvana, the world just needed an intensely polished and accessible verison of the style to go nuts over. Some of the lesser-heard mid-album songs are pretty good, I can't even hear the hits anymore due to overplay, they just sound like white noise. All things considered the world could have picked a worse band to elevate to their level (and often did).
I’m very mixed on Green Day as a whole. I always have been. I feel like I should really like them, but I never really have. Yet, at the same time, I grew up with them and have heard quite a bit more Green Day than many other bands, so they still hold a special place in my heart. Every song on this album is hit or miss to me. It’s got so many all time classics. I have a lot of favorites, like “Basket Case”, “Welcome to Paradise”, and “When I Come Around.” Most other songs on the album are relatively forgettable. I’m going to give it 3 stars because I’ve never really vibed with Green Day personally but I respect them a whole lot. The guitar playing rocks, the vibes rock, but as much as I hate to say it I’ve never really resonated with Billie’s singing, and repeated listens didn’t change that. I can’t disagree with people who give this one a 5 star rating, but it’s just not something I would find myself listening to a whole lot.
Listened to this one 100s of times when it came out. Definitely an iconic album for the period. Too bad they turned out to be fake punks and became shills for the man. Glad to see Billy Joe and Dick Cheney are now on the same team.
Kyllä tykkään tällaisesta punk-popista ja laulu on selkeää ja kivaa kuten aina.
3/5
Not my taste
A bit on the overrated side. There are better punk albums out there and this is a touch too poppy for me. Still, there's enough good tracks here to keep this humming along. I've appreciated more as I've gotten older but I still prefer The Ramones or The Clash.
Welcome to paradise has a good hook and bass. Basket Case is a classic. When I come around is another classic and very nostalgic. I remember discovering it in middle school and I just loved the prominent bass and how short and chunky the guitar sounds. Only 3 stars because overall it’s not my favorite album. Nothing crazy impressive.
Nostalgic album! Standouts for me are “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around”. The beginning of the album was a tad repetitive but I liked the guitars and drums overall. Defos felt more punk than pop on the pop punk spectrum. Can’t help but compare with other Green Day albums that I preferred though. No doubt an influential one!
1. Stoner song. Apathy and boredom in suburbia. Good production for a '94 album. 2. Very much not having a blast. It's kinda giving suicide bomber. They were really working through some emotions with this album. 3. Eh. Good instrumental break, but otherwise a mid song. 4. One of their more memorable songs. Heard this before. Probably a single. I Like it. Can relate to having no motivation and being bored. "My mother says to get a job, but she don't like the one she's got." OH shit do I relate to this! No wonder their still relevant. Wait...is this song about jerking it? 5. Really like the melody of this one. He seems to title songs sarcastically a lot with this album. Very much not paradise. About being homeless/leaving home for the first time/living in a crappy situation. 6. Domestic violence (he's the victim) in an upbeat tempo. 7. Basket Case, another classic. Subtle nod to Billie Joe's bisexuality. Good on him for even kinda doing that in '94. 8. Feeling like you have no choices in life. Like everything is already planned out and you don't get a say. 9. Wasting time. 10. Another familiar song. In many coming of age movies. 11. Coming clean about something, maybe his sexuality? 12. Meeting an old friend that's different now. 13. Toxic relationship, the aftermath anyway. 14. Nice acoustic song, unexpected, then back to punk. 15. Such a weird, goofy, and un-serious ending to an album. 6.9/10
yo siempre he pensado q Green day es la placentada más grande del punk girl q puedo decir Chump m ha gustado bastante pero y basket case pero en fin
Gewoon niet helemaal mijn ding
Theres nothing wrong with it for sure, and it can actually be a fun listen at times, but I did get somewhat tired of it by the end. I think theres a few too many songs, where, because theres so many, the album does not stay musically interesting the whole way through. That said, I wouldnt mind if someone queued up some songs from it at a party or something. Best: Welcome to Paradise Worst: All by Myself
Meh.
Punk rock emo
Especially now it's easy to forget that Green Day used to be a punk band, but it sure was fun when they were!
I never got into Green Day when I was younger—I was a Mod, after all—so I must be one of the few people who had never actually listened to Dookie. In hindsight, I would’ve loved this album if I’d given it a chance back then. With 15 songs packed into just 38 minutes, it’s exactly what good punk music should be: tight, fast, and full of energy. Dookie is fun, guitar-driven pop-punk with standout tracks like Basket Case and Welcome to Paradise. It’s clear why this album is so highly regarded—it’s catchy, confident, and bursting with youthful attitude. That said, I feel like I’ve now had my fill of Green Day. Since Dookie is often considered their best work, I’m happy to leave it there. Favourite track: Basket Case Least favourite: Honestly, I enjoyed everything on the album. Album artwork: Really cool cover—busy, playful, and very '90s.
Really solid 3/5. Fun listen. Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, & When I Come Around are timeless classics, a lot of the rest of the album drags for me, especially near the end. “She” has a neat opening base line that I haven’t heard before.
Not my type but i would like to listen to it as a background music in public. 3/5
I like some of it... def some bangers and I know it's a classic.
reminds me of my asshole cousin (rip) i prefer their albums directly after this one
#106 - Huge in its time, and of its time. It's a decent album.
Was decent stuff. 3 stars
I like this style and wish there was more pop punk on the list. But a lot of the songs just sounded the same - I’d like a bit more variety. The songs from this album that became hits make sense (basically just Basket Case and When I Come Around). The others were a bit blah. Still enjoyable though.
Aceleracion
Koselig! Klassisk pønkeplate som alle bør høre på. Ikke alle låter som sitter like godt, men for en tidsmaskin til en æra som har preget hvert fall meg mye, selv om jeg aldri har eid dette albumet.
It’s a good album, but I can’t believe Green Day were ver called “punk”. Pop-punk, maybe. Sure. But people forgot punk even existed in less than 15 years. At least wlthey were doing an approximation. Green Day are a good listen but super overrated.
it's ok..
Very enjoyable, did get slightly repetitive but I enjoyed it as a whole
I respect Green Day for creating the sound of 90s rock.
3.2/kind of mid but gotta respect the sound of the time
The drummer‘s got chops, but all the guitar player plays is power chords. The songs can be catchy but a whole album of this style does get a bit fatiguing
So much nostalgia. Longview and Basket Case are 10/10 tracks idc what ya say.
This was an decent album
I know this album sold like a billion copies, but as a kid at the time Green Day seemed like a second-rate, unserious band compared to the big-name grunge and alternative bands at the time. I imagine their schtick played better on the West Coast than in my hometown among the prairieland of Illinois. Which is fair; I'm sure they don't appreciate Midwest Emo like we do. Anyway, I have to give them credit for the big five singles off this album. The drums in particular are noteworthy, but overall this is not the type of thing I want to listen to.
not the kind of music i listen to regularly but can't deny it's a banger!!
classic green day. basket case moment
From the era my children were becoming musically aware so I'm really open to hear this. Listening, I'm aware that I have heard many of these songs, just nor that mindfully. Tight sound. Simple. Energy.
Basket Case and When I Come Around are still pretty great songs.
I bought this album when it came out, loved it and still have it on cassette. I have of course listened to it in the intervening years but today I felt I didnt appreciate it as much as I did then. Perhaps that time the bands who were making this post punk music were not very listenable and Dookie looked good by comparison. It IS a good album but I feel three stars is my score today.
Solide mit paar richtig guten Songs
Okay
Pop-punk from my New Wave Goth days.
OK I guess. Indifferent. Has a brash and shiny feel to it which seems the antithesis of punk. (Nope, hadn't ever listened to the album before today).
It’s Green Day
It’s still a great album but think it sits between a 3 and a 4
Souvenirs de secondaire 2. Je me rappellais encore de toutes les paroles. Cristallise bien le pop punk californien.
I like it but not really a huge fan of this album
ok
Enjoyed it, didn't love it. But also definitely not my favourite genre
Aside from the notable 90s pop punk anthems we all know on here, there isn’t much that captures my attention. As we’ve navigated further from when this album was made its vinn diagram with other contemporaries has greater overlap. I hear Blind Melon’s “No Rain” at the end of “Longview” for example. As a side note, I was a 90s MTV kid and nothing described my experience more than “Longview”.
Generic but not offensive
Quite teenagery. Innocuous. one seemed almost like a folk song but played with power chords reminded me of the byrds. Not sure would listen again
Green Day isn't really a band I care for but I think moreso from the fact that their music isn't my style rather than any of their reputation or something. In general I would have avoided any of their music but today (or rather yesterday) it was Dookie. I think despite all of what I said before this album is pretty alright, really riding that tightrope between the more mild and power poppy Ramone's esque pop punk vs the 00s poppier and somewhat heavier pop punk that would become more popular since this album's release and it works I think, it gets heavier and exciting like it needs to along with some really sweet and catchy melodies, the biggest knock I could give is that I don't love the "style" of singing Billy Joe (and really most 00s pop punk), it's just kind of repetitive and as well how some songs towards the latter half start to blend in for me, which makes it kind of a chore, but I mean... other than that I think I enjoyed this one wayyy more than I initially thought I would.
I haven’t listen to this album since high school. Although never a big Green Day, I can respect what they did.
This used to be one of my favorite albums! But, now I just think there isn't enough substance to it. There's still some bomb ass bangers though.
I really wished I like this more but there was only a couple songs I liked
En god del gode låter, men blir litt likt. Synes kvaliteten deres blir tydeligere når de tar tempoet ned. En karakter ned i forhold til American Idiot.
Nice album. Straight rock and roll. Got a little repetitive and mundane for me, but an enjoyable listen.
3,25
actually kinda disappointed on revisiting it. my memory was coloured by the tracks i remembered well, but the rest was, well... forgettable
Dookie did not invent pop punk, not even close, but was a before and after moment for the genre, and it's a perfect encapsulation of the appeal of it. If someone wanted to know what pop punk is, you could do a hell of a lot worse than just showing them Dookie. This is a record full of frustration, anxiety and suburban ennui. Songs are about getting crushing boredom, getting mad at your parents and trying to find your way in the world. Billie Joe Armstrong sounds distinct and snotty and maybe a little bit obnoxious. And the songs are perfect little blasts of pop songwriting: simple, catchy and energetic. Basically, Dookie is the perfect album to capture the attention of a wide audience of disillusioned teens. If you found this in the right place, at the right time, I can see it being an all time favorite for you. That being said, while I understand the appeal of Dookie, and I do like it more than I don't, pop punk just kind of isn't my thing, but I can understand that this is a masterpiece of the genre. Besides, I can throw it on and bob along from front to back, so I can't complain too much.
Real nostalgia, but didn’t hold up for me as well as expected.
Vrenger seg inni meg av Basket Case. Lett skip. Resten er ok.
Green Day's alright, but just not someone I care to listen to.
Everyone who thinks this album belongs on a list of music to hear before you die is a middle class north merican white boy who is probably just cresting the "acceptance" part of their balding journey. Yes, of course I love it, of course it hits all my nostalgia buttons, I grew up with this exact white suburban rage. I used to sneak out of my teenagehood suburban house in the middle of the night with Basket Case playing in my head to go slurp on a mickey with my friends in a park. But that's as far as the nostalgia for this album should go, let's not be inflicting it on other folks and wasting the precious remaining 1001 days before they die.
not bad. Basket Case is the "do you have time to listen to me whine" song. 3/5
-Most main riffs are good, but aren't very dissimilar to one another -Solid opening few tracks, Burnout being an insane intro -Outro is shite, decent guitar but the vocals are far from it -Best songs: Burnout, Basket Case, Longview -Worst songs: Emenius Sleepus, All by Myself -Overall rating: 7.1/10, probably wouldn't listen to in full again
Good beats and bass.Make for good driving music
A cult, but carried by the singles with half of the song that sounds like fillers
Nice tight modern punk album, somewhere between angst and amusement. It’s still a pissed off vibe, but with a grin rather than a sneer. Liked it rather than loved it. There are definitely more ambitious Green Day albums out there. When I come around and Basket Case where the standouts for me
16-year-old me would’ve rated this five stars
Every song kinda sounds the same
3.5 stars. The hits hit. A few other tracks are pretty good. Definite filler but it’s a quick record. It’s not revolutionary but it’s fun.
Its punkpop
My favorite album of all time
"Basket Case" und "When I Come Around" stechen klar heraus zwischen den sonst soliden, aber eher belanglosen Songs im typischen "Green Day"-Stil.
Alright.
Thought I’d like this more tbh as a millennial. I liked it. And sure that maybe I’d like it more if I listened to all of it when I was 16.
I was never a huge fan, but Tre Cool's drumming is better than I remembered. This is the first time I have actually read all the lyrics. The over-all tone struck me as nihilistic and somewhat anti-religious.
This is more like a 3.75 than just a regular 3 stars. I love punk music, but not the biggest Green Day or pop punk fan in general. Dookie isn't full pop punk, but it feels like it's right on the edge of it
Good
3.5/5
Some great songs, but I never loved the album as much as it seemed I was supposed to.
I bought this album not long after it came out, and within 2 years I wasn't listening to it anymore. I'd moved on to other bands, and Green Day growing in popularity did nothing to lure me back. Today was the first time listening to it in almost 30 years, and I still remembered like half of the songs from before. Of those, I can't say I missed many of them as they're mostly the singles. The rest weren't even vaguely familiar beyond sounding like Green Day songs. Overall it's fine if you like them, but there are better punk bands to spend time listening to. For 1994, I'll take Bad Religion's Stranger Than Fiction for my personal favorite punk album of the year, and it's not even included in this project.
It’s alright. Some standout songs on here but all the songs sound almost exactly tge same for the most part. Would have enjoyed more variety
Glad to know youth hasn't changed much. Not my cup of tea though.
I had to think about this one a bit. Longview, Basket Case and When I Come Around are all bangers, but the rest of the album is pretty mid. It's a 3, but so very close to a 4.
Not for me struggle to listen to it all
Ok
Nostalgic album I used to listen to when I was younger on the iPod! Great continuity throughout, nothing stand out-ish, but good loud feel good music. 7/10.
Definitely better than I expected and there's some catchy songs here "When I Come Around", "Welcome to Paradise" and "Basket Case". But I haven't found myself coming back to this album a lot 6/10 Favourite: When I Come Around Least Favourite: F.O.D.
Got some hits on here but the rest doesn’t hold up
another modern classic
Aw, Basket Case! Green Day any day for the nostalgia
Surprisingly mid. Good guitar hero music tho
Some good standout songs, but mostly the album just blends together.
Enjoyable album
Still pretty solid. I liked Greenday in the 90s. Couldn't tell you anything about what they've released in the 2000s and on, just wasn't interested.
Basket Case was an absolutely massive vibe when I was 14 or 15. And to be fair, the rest of the album is cut from similarly solid material. I still like most of it, even if it is a bit bright-sounding and quite obvious thematically. Marking it down a bit as I think this record is responsible for a slew of less discerning imitations throughout the 90s and 00s.
I like Green Day for the most part, but it just bores me. It all sounds the same to me.
’s all right.
Now, let’s try another vocal take after you use the Neti Pot
Another one where I’ve probably heard all the songs but never listened to the album
Yeah, s'alright. I mean, it's a bit repetitive. It's unsophisticated. There's no outstanding musicianship on display. It's "OK". I didn't dislike it. If it was on the radio I wouldn't yell at you to change the channel. Umm... 3/5.
ehhhhhh not for me at all sorry :/ can see why people like it though
Summary: this album sounds like i want to light a cigarette and also i want to fight somebody but with the 2010's disney channel skinny white skater boy vibes. still have some bangers that hype me up but only bc of the memories. not my style, not approved, sorry. (burnout: disney deszkas sori vibe. (5/10) nem fogom az osszeset ertekelni. chump: egesz jo (5.5/10) longview: not bad at all but still boring (6/10) welcome to paradise: vagy egyre engedekenyebb vagyok, vagy egyre jobbak. de amugy ez is uncsi (6/10) basket case:og, sztem csak az emlekek miatt de (7/10))
not bad. sounded very green day
Wow these guys are a lot less annoying when they aren't being such melodramatic bitches all the time. Granted, there is still some of that but far less annoying than American Idiot. I thought there were a lot of good hits on this album, but overall it was pretty uniform - not too much variety and all the non hits are really cheap knockoffs of the better songs on this album.
Basket case
Can't deny it's catchy as hell. Probably wouldn't relisten but wouldn't be mad if it was on
6.5/10 Ahh, the 90s. I had a school friend who was obsessed with this, so was pretty familiar. Perky post punk with some good tunes and melodies. Can’t say that this style of vocal delivery really does it for me. Best: Longview
I went into this expecting to be STOKED, but it really was the same song over and over and I wasn't really wowed.
C'est un peu comme The Offspring, mais en moins énervé et en moins bien. Meh/10.
ts kinda fire icl ngl kinda got repititive
This is a great album for exactly what it's trying to do. Of the times but very honest and speaking from the heart. Good instrumentals and some creative riffs. Makes sense to have on the list and is a fun listen. Production is a bit lacking.
It is pretty homogeneous. It's hard for me to even process, you couldn't escape it in 1994. The first time I heard the whole album (including the hidden track) was from a 7 year old kid, on a tiny portable cd player. I feigned appreciation, seeing that he was very excited to own it. So polished, there are no edges or ruff surfaces left. There is almost an early Beatles vibe to this. I get why it's here.
I'm beginning to think I have no taste in music because every album I've listened to so far has been ok. And people have been raving about them
I really listened to an album named Dookie huh. Anyways I’ve always thought the lead vocalist of Green Day had an annoying voice but it didn’t sound as grating in this album, maybe because he was younger. Sounded like typical teen angst punk, which I’m sure they were trailblazers of.
This album is single handedly responsible for the creation of pop-punk and therefore the horrors it's at fault for inflicting upon the human race cannot be understated. The album itself is okay though. The strongest offerings were the four songs picked as singles, and I highly doubt there is anyone alive who wouldn't enjoy Basket Case. But I think some of the album tracks are a little lacking in identity. I would give it a 7 if I was able to, but instead it will be getting a 3. I like the album cover, even if it's all one big poop joke.
Harmless ditties.
Wasn't too bad, better than I expected.
I'm liking that I like a lot of Green Day's individual songs, but that I'm not as fond of their albums...a bit too repetitive.
This album wasn't my favorite but it did have a couple good songs that I would throw into rotation
Loved it, felt like I was in a early 2000s movie montage. highlights chump, longview. 3.5/5
green day can be good but i have to be in the mood for it and i, evidently, am really not feeling it
I like this kind of music now more than I did at the time.
i feel like i've heard every song on here 200 times
classic!
Vuelta a lo básico. Disfrutable
I’m not a fan of the three hits on this album, welcome to paradise, when I come around, and basket case. But there are a lot of other good ones. Coming Clean might be my fave. Not enough to get a 4
Solid green day album. Others I like more
it’s kind of like nirvana it doesn’t matter how catchy the songs are if it’s really popular it’s not punk rock
With the exception of the last track, all the songs sounded the same.
This is probably Green Day's best album, in my opinion.
They were very exciting back in the mid 90s I recall. Maybe their direct punk-pop was a breath of fresh air to the death note of prog-rock-derived 90s grunge and introspective whinge-rock. This generally feels more joyful. But they strike me as a singles band, not sure they've released a solid album, if they have I haven't heard it yet. There are some bangers here, it's balanced out by the Busted and McFly influencing cheap power pop. Mid-three.
Don’t overthink it, this is great fun. Basket Case was everywhere in 1994. Me and my pal from school listened to this every Friday night for about six months with a bottle of cheap white cider. Hope you’re well John x
On one hand, this album consists of some of the best Hit songs of the 1990s, and this album also revolutionized Punk Rock music; it was Green Day's breakout album. On the other hand, the rest of the album is dookie. I can't justify giving this a higher, or lower rating. Favorite Song: "Basket Case"
While it is not a bad album, it does not particularly stand out either.there where a few good tracks but thats about it.
This album reminds me variously of the Pixies and the theme song from Friends.
Not bad
Definitely if it’s time. Nice to re-visit
Solid punkish rock
7/10
I have to give credit to Tré Cool—his drumming on Dookie is fantastic and definitely a highlight. That said, the songs themselves mostly feel pretty average to me. I understand the album’s importance in American music history and appreciate the wave of bands it helped inspire, but personally, Dookie just doesn’t click with me.
First listen: just sounds like “RAH this is Green Day”. I feel like the impact of this album would be most punchy when it first came it cause it would have felt like a more unique sound than it does now. A lot of it sounds samey to me and it’s definitely good but I would only put it on if I really felt like I was in a 🤘🏻 mood. Basket Case is a stand out but maybe that’s just because I’m more familiar with it.
nothing in particular stood out
Giving high school Enjoyed
The bass lines were too goofy and the guys voice grated on me. Too affected. But it’s undeniable that the songs are catchy
Reminiscent of slf and husker du in parts.
Every song sounded the same but that was a good thing. All By Myself might be the worst song I've ever heard Fav Songs: Welcome to Paradise, Burnout, Basket Case, When I Come Around
I enjoyed it much more when I was younger. It’s still good but like blink182 and sum41 it’s music for the youth.
Okay punk music but this was quite samey, the songs blended somewhat and nothing was standing out. Stand-out: Pulling Teeth
Very weak start, the first four songs almost sound like one big long one. Picks up around the instrumental section in Welcome to Paradise, and I enjoyed everything from then on much more. I only recognised Basket Case when looking over the tracklist before starting, and I can see why, it's the standout track.
Each song sounds a bit samey
Pretty good, but a few skippable tracks.
Ok
My initial impressions were that Billy Joe Armstrong's singing voice has an uncanny way of making nearly every Green Day song sound the same. And while it can definitely get into retreading the same sounds, I think the bigger culprit here is the instrumentation on this album. It feels more like an early concept that is more interested in one specific sound/vision before trying to expand its horizons in future albums. Leaving the shuffle play on for a little bit after finishing the album and hearing some of their future albums solidified this for me. Not bad, just VERY samey.
Power pop punk. I’d rather listen to The Descendents or The Dickies or The Ramones when in the mood for music like this.
Blah blah blah, modem day punk rock, blah blah blah, it's all so VERY POP .... 3 stars for being from the East Bay Berkeley, for whatever but overrated ugh
Hoch schule musikal
Great sounding album, best audio I have heard out of a punk album, but again this style of music isn't really my jam. I like that all the songs sound similar. All around solid 90s album that is worth the listen
Honestly expected a little more from such a revered record. I thoroughly enjoyed the more energetic punk tracks, but the production on the more quiet parts kind of ruined those moments for me. I either had to turn up my volume in order to understand what was being said and get slapped in the face when the guitars came back in, or just kind of sit there waiting for the music to pick up again.
Them feels, but borez.
don’t usually like pop punk but as is usually the case the earlier you go the better it gets lmao. this was fun!
Just saw them in concert recently and they played this whole album. I thought it would be better. Adults playing immature punk music. It’s a little embarrassing. Still, it took me back to some good high school days.
it's easy to see why this was revolutionary at the time, but not every revolution is worth fighting for, you know?
basket case > resto.
Not my style really. It was to wildd for me. Maybe it was because of me listing it in the morning idk Best song: basket case
Fun album. As a kid who grew up in the 90's, this is likely the first punk record I ever heard. Still find some of the songs to be good. 3.5/5 Might listen again
Two good songs
A fun listen and a total nostalgia blast, but nothing more. Lacking the context of punk breaking through to the mainstream it becomes a little hard to reconcile their present with their debut considering their best and worst work is ahead of them, but none of them have the energy that this project has.
3 might seem harsh, but as much as this is a great album that definitely deserves to be on this list, I just don’t see myself coming back to it. I’ve liked it before, I wouldn’t not listen to it again, but I can’t honestly say it’s up there with some others that I’ve scored 4 and above on a personal level
It's fine. I dig the bass, I like the singles - rest of the album gets repetitive.
3 не е зле, ама чак мега не са ми
Pretty good and classy
Falls a little flat nearing the end
It's fine!
it's alright. pretty samey
Drummer is good but my god did every song sound the same
Fun but not my style.
fuck a staccato
As much as I wanted to hate this album it is pretty good especially the second half.
It's fine
Being an original punk fan I always found the 'new punk' a bit generic/copycat but I did genuinely enjoy this album
i don’t know man i know this is controversial but i’m just not as big of a green day fan as i thought i was
Hard to hear words sometimes
Reinforced my enjoyment of the songs I already knew, but clear why those were the only ones I did. Melodies and lyrics blurred otherwise through the unfamiliar to me tracks.
Great 90's pop punk.
Pretty standard fair when it comes to pop punk but solid playing, catchy writing and generally fun. Feels like it encapsulates the 90's era pretty well. I prefer American Idiot since I grew up with it and have nostalgia for it but this is a good record.
When I come around Basket case Welcome to paradise I forgot I used to like this kind of rock music
CDzinho clássico desse rock de transição anos 90-00. Muito agradável de escutar de bobeira. Com certeza reflete bem o clima geral da sociedade (se não só, mas especialmente americana) de que tudo era massa, feliz, otimista... Bons tempos, eu acho.
Sounds alright but not really my type of music.
3/5
The songs I know of this album are great. I can see why they were singles. The rest was just mediocre.
13 year old me would’ve given this a 5 star review. Some classic tunes on here but a few don’t really land for me.
Brilliant. Nearly a 4!!
In terms of pop punk this is a good record.
some catchy and genuinely good songs but they just have that late 90s/early 2000s sound that i just don’t love
I mean it’s Green Day, for good or bad, they’re so iconic that you immediately know what to expect, the rest is up to you to decide how much you enjoy them
Though I like it, neither song really stood out among the rest. It all kinda blended together as a same-y 40mins song
Wish I still had the energy to enjoy this album more.
Not the biggest pop punk guy but Green Day for sure does it best. Found some songs that I did enjoy here. Favorite Tracks: Longview, She
I do like some of Green Day’s songs, but this album was just ok.
Good record. Great songs.
The album that really introduced pop-punk to the world. Although their previous releases were far better, Dookie received a warm reception and pushed the genre into the open. The overplay caused me to stick to prior releases and eventually almost abandon the band until recent years.
Catchy hooks. They really should get more credit.
