Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Ok I guess.

A blast of Punk Pop what's not too like.

Raw, top listen for anyone. Long live Kurt

The classic Green Day album can't believe it's 30 years old! Still has that youthful sound. It's pop punk fast and short songs, strong bass lines really can't go wrong with this album. Stand out tracks: - Chump - Longview - Welcome to paradise - Pulling teeth - Basket case - When I come around -F. O. D

That’s 90s angst punk alright. Better now than when it came out. Three smash hits (and the cover art) carry the album. Glad I took the time to listen to them whine. Extra .1 for being American brings dookie in at (2.9*s)

This album is fun and the hits are really catchy; it was the shit when it came out so I'll give it that. I also remember loving the cover art when Fan had the cassette. But all of these accolades are rooted in the past, I don't like it as much now as I did back then. It's too pop (really isn't even punk at all) and a bit too surface-level. There's also too many songs that don't stand out, overall pretty one-dimensional. I'm good for a few songs, but not a whole album of it. Too generic and commercialized for me but not denying it's sweet-spot in 1994, what a time!

Tedious

I always thought of Green Day as a watered down Clash. But I grew up with the Clash.

I get why a lot of people love this album, and I was still thirteen I imagine it would really go off. The production is pretty good here & I don't dislike it. I do find the harmonies quite grating though, and the lyrics are frequently cringe. Best Track: Longview Worst Track: All By Myself

Good but not as good as I remember

# 270 : They've done a pretty decent job. I think Its OK, I could listen to it, some of the songs are pretty iconic and everyone knows all the words. Pop Punk Masterpiece! Favourite Track : When I Come Around

This is the best Green Day record, and probably the only one worth listening to, if that means anything to you.

A very biased "I don't really like Green Day because I prefer classic punk from the late 70s". Green Day isn't bad or untalented, just not my style.

I never gave Green Day an honest shot. Pop-punk, fake twitchy head, curled lip, attempting a British accent. I always saw them as solid B-listers who became elevated once the A-listers killed themselves or broke up while the remaining players on the FM dial were C-listers. It does help that they happened to write better (and more mature) songs by the time American Idiot came out. Again, we were lucky in the 90's to have so much good music that we can choose to ignore some of it, and I ignored Green Day; one only has so much pocket money and you had to choose your albums carefully. We got off on the wrong foot and after me correcting course and starting over, I can now appreciate these solid melodies in short, compact songs despite some of the more sophomoric lyrics. The night before listening to this album, I saw a TikTok short where a bar band was playing Green Day, and Billie Joe Armstrong jumped onstage and sang it with them. He did fine, but the feel of the song was all off (due to the drummer, imo), and it made me appreciate Green Day as a band. It's one thing to hit the notes, but it's a greater skill to play well and with the right feel. Green Day are tight, they're on top of the beat, and they bring the energy. And I appreciate that all these years later, it's still the same three guys playing with their best friends. No lineup changes. I forgot about "She" and "In The End." Good tunes. Some deep cuts I liked were "Pulling Teeth" and the softer change of pace of "All By Myself." Dookie (and Green Day for that matter) is a bit too . . . manufactured for my tastes, but it's not a bad album, and it deserves the success it got.

How funny that I have never given this a listen-through until today. This was released when I was 12, and as I had a lot of male friends at the time, I remember this being popular among my seventh -grade friend group. Of course there were a lot of singles that I heard all the time, but even those I hadn't heard in quite a while, so this was part nostalgia, part discovery for me today. All in all, not bad. Tight, energetic power-punk. Fifteen songs, 38 minutes, lol. I was bopping along when before I knew it I'd arrived at the closing song... As soon as the Adam Sandler-like ditty hit my ears, I was flooded with a wave of remembering boys singing this. Oh to be young, when masturbation apparently still *hadn't* lost its fun! 3.5

So, Green Day is a band that I was lukewarm on as a 13 year old. Punk in general was not really my thing. From what I remember from that time is that somehow because Green Day had commercial success they were labeled as 'Posers'.....somehow though (in my dealings with other 13 and 14 year olds) I picked up that, Offspring was not given this label, despite commercial success. Looking back now, I don't really get why the difference. Maybe Offspring kept it more punk when they broke? Who knows... Billy Joe has a peculiar way of singing and having hard up front attacks on his words. Sometimes he sounds almost British in some of his word pronunciation... which I always thought to be odd. Sort of like how Iggy Azalea has a strong Australian accent then starts rapping and sounds like Lil Kim. Guitar chords sound like pretty straightforward major type chords with power pop versus and choruses. The drummer despite me not liking the franticness of punk drumming was always interesting to listen to on this album. I always liked 'When I Come Around' and 'Basket Case'.

Pure 1994 nostalgia. There are some bangers in here is still listen to regularly.

classic

Was cohesive but nothing new. Its difficulty to rate old albums in a contemporary environment but dookie didn’t move me, do anything for me or make me reflect of a time (that I was not around for) or encourage/force me to enjoy that time

Suprisingly i liked it, i saved four songs tahat I will keep listening having a blast, longview, basket case and f.o.d.

Memories of youth.

Pretty solid album. I hadn't listened to it in a long time. In fact I'm not entirely sure I listened to the entire album in a single sitting before. Pretty even, finished reasonably strong. I liked it fairly well, better than I remember actually.

“Dookie” is another album that my heart has softened up to over time. I used to hate this album and this band, mostly because of the negative associations I had with them. I had a neighbor kid who would play a VHS recording of their live performance all day and night. Sometimes when I was hanging out with him, I would hear it three or four times in a row. Not to mention, there were a few more bad experiences that I associated with their music. Listening to it now, I can confidently say that it’s still not all that great. It’s not the worst thing ever, it’s just mediocre, middle of the road. But at least I don’t hate it like I used to, so I guess we can look at that as a small victory of its own.

Ok this album sold a lot of copies and I sure heard it a lot when it was new. It wasn't made for my generation. At least it wasn't made for me. :)

Some memorable tracks, but I found others a bit same-y.

Highlights: When I Come Around

There are two striking tracks on the album, the rest sounds like one never-ending track.

Not my vibe.

3 but a strong 3

Pretty solid album. Liked it when it came out, still like it today

Green Day’s Dookie is definitely a fun listen. The tracks have a consistent theme of upbeat rock and some elements of pop. However, this consistency ends up being the downfall of the album, as it most often was blended into a lack of variety. All the tracks sounded almost identical, and while they weren’t bad, it got boring within 5 tracks. That being said, Im still taking some of the listens, as it was good, but I wish I could have seen more from the album. All in all, Dookie is an alright album. Best Song: Chump Worst Song: F.O.D.

It's amazing at what it does. Super positive and energetic pop rock album with good lyrics and fun vibes. It's a fun listen, and each song is great. But it gets really really repetitive, no versatility to this album, and it isn't really my style of music.

Fine for what it is but not really for me I guess <3 it got better around welcome to paradise/pulling teeth/basket case which leads me to ask why they would start the album like that. Just my opinion though also I think it’s a little too long. I like When I Come Around.

You could debate this album based on genre - is it punk (no) is it pop (yes) is it pop-punk (kind of). I was never really into Green Day. I mean the music is cool - good guitars and bass, solid drumming. But then Billie Joe Armstrong starts to sing and it all falls apart for me. A whole album of his voice is just too much. Which is a shame because he seems like a good dude in general. I wish I liked this more than I do. It's super nostalgic even though I never really listened to it back in the day, it was unavoidable for a few years when it came out so I heard it a lot regardless. It's fine, I guess. A generous 3/5 from me.

Saddened to realise that this album isn't as good as I had remembered. Turns out nostalgia is a powerful thing. The album is a mixed bag and shows glimmers of something great but too much filler and too many underdeveloped ideas.

6.5/10

Good punk/rock album. Better than some wanna be's punkers Good memories with it 3.5/5

Good fun. 3.5 stars.

Horrid Henry would love green day

Favourite song - Longview 3.5

"Dookie" has some good tracks and poor ones. It's probably just me as I didn't feel like listening to it today. But it's also because I find pop-punk a bit outdated. (No offence) It's got a nice sound to it and Billie Jo's voice sometimes works well. The lyrics are typical to the genre. 3 stars for "Dookie".

Well, this is a lively pop-punk album. Enjoyable but not outstanding.

Such a great album.

Pretty decent 90’s pop/punk with catchy melodies. It’s never my go-to genre but I can get through Dookie sans boredom.

3.5 stars. A very energetic album. A few hits such as "Longview," "Basket Case," and "When I Come Around," all which sound better in the context of tje whole album. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the punk rock sound, even less so Billy Joe Armstrong's often unintelligible affectation. "Pulling Teeth" and "F.O.D." are good songs though

90s Green Day was great

My only foray into Green Day was the later album American Idiot. Never listened to anything prior to this. So came to this somewhat blind although one or two tracks sounded familiar so must have heard them before subliminally. I enjoyed the album. Whilst there are elements of punk in it I could also tell that they were in transition towards more mainstream rock which I liked in American Idiot. 3/5 21/4/24

Don’t know what was in the air but Americans really started to sound very distinctive in the 90’s. Some super dorky American bands like weezer etc started to pop up. Green day are no exception I’ve always felt a little off about them because they are just so American and kind of cringey. I can’t deny they are good at what they do but I just hear so much of them and it gets a little annoying. People at college especially who only know these mainstream songs really got on my nerves playing the same songs. Still I can’t deny it was fun to listen to even if it felt like it dragged on a bit I still enjoyed it. And that last something was prime weezer that was super cringey, terrible to end on. Nothing special to me not my favourite pop punk but still bearable . 3/5 Stand out songs: Longview Basket case When I come around

gonna have to give it a 3

Iconic band with an iconic sound…that’s pretty similar throughout the entire album.

Quite mediocre

Nah, I still feel undercomplex when listening to this country-pop-fun-punk-rock blend of musical nothingness. Yes, it is energetic, direct, well played and produced, and the lyrics actually mean something. But they never made it for me, I go for Ramones, Bad Religion, Clash, or Violent Femmes if I want such kind of music. Although, in their times they served a purpose, and that was to reintroduce lighthearted fun into Rock Music Making.

Smooth pop punk. Not sure why I never go into them as a teen. Maybe they're not rough enough around the edges? Maybe they sound too much like a Disney channel movie soundtrack?

Un par de temas muy buenos.

I kept expecting them to break into the theme song from "Friends"

how is this nostalgic if I did not even listen to this in my youth, is a question.maybe its the lyrics and the feeling of being a teenager and angry at world. it is enjoyable as its pop punk.

It is my favorite of Green Day’s albums and I don’t feel overly wordy about it.

Feel obliged to give it a 4, since it has generational anthems, but will give it a 3 because I don't like it that much to be honest.

Good album, but seemed to drag after a strong start. Was interrupted so couldn't focus fully on it though.

Basket Case -

a nostalgic listen. Not the type of music i really listen to anymore, but a nice trip down memory lane for maybe a once a decade ride

It’s still fun, still has nostalgia value, but I don’t think it fully holds up. Serviceable pop-punk. Best tracks: Basket Case, When I Come Around

One of the first albums I can ever remember listening to. Green Day always seemed to me like the bridge between the bona fide punk genre with the likes of Dead Kennedys and The Clash and pop-rock banks like Blink 182 and Sum 41. 90s rock definitely took a turn from the glam and pompousness of 70s and 80s rockstars to more of a slacker “burnout” vibe and Dookie embodies this perfectly in both musical tone and lyrical subject matter. The decade was the melting pot of music. Dookie is a great debut album for a band that has had decades of sustained success and refined their sound. Albeit, the track listing is a bit homogenous and you’ll swear you hear some of the same guitar riffs from Billie Joe Armstrong that were on previous tracks. Still, Burnout, Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basketcase, and When I Come Around are such bangers that it’s disappointing to see that half of those don’t make the cut when the band plays a live set for Amazon Prime’s concert series. The remainer of the album is a bit lackluster though and brings the overall rating down to a high end 3 for me overall.

A few good songs, definitely not their best work, but a good indicator of where they started

This is not bad, but it's not something that I enjoy listening to. For 90s music, it's alright.

Good but repetitive

There's some classics on here: Longview - Classic but I don't like the lyrics. Welcome to Paradise Basket Case In all though its okay. The other tracks are fine and I really just don't like pop punk all that much.

Par apsolutnih hitova, al dosta mediocre album u cjelini.

Reminds me of playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4. I liked Basket Case a lot. Classic Green day but all songs kinda sound the same.

Some great songs, but also some misses

Singles great, rest isn’t too memorable.

I like it more now than when it came out. I guess it finally wore me down.

Fun album

Some solid tracks on here, good album length.

classic pop punk. cheesy, but good times

OK pop album, some good tracks some so so, nothing edgy here. I can understand why some people really rate it as it has plenty of energy but no real depth, for me.

It was meh at best for me

Not really huge on Green Day tbh 6/10

Not a real fan but liked some of their music.

Tight, loud snare is the first thing I pick up from this, followed by Billy Joe’s confident voice. Excellent harmonies right off the bat. Guitar really exists in the background and is rather bland; bass carries more personality. Not my style of music per-se, but at least it isn’t ska.

Very Nostalgic

Honestly, this is a pretty good pop-punk album, but Green Day just don't do it for me. I don't know if it's Billie Joe's voice, or their tryhard subversiveness, or what, but I've never really liked them. That said, this album is perfectly decent, with the tracks being short and sweet, as pop-punk should be.

nothing special but enjoyable

Reminds me of when my sons were teenagers

I mean it's Green Day, classic for what it is but never my personal favorite

too heavy, too loud, liked this when i was a kid

Well, this was better than what I expected. Although the first songs in the album sounded all the same rhythm with different chords, it all started to sound familiar (not quite sure if good, but familiar)

It's a fun album. The hits are really good and there are no skips. Launched an entire, regrettable genre. I can barely stand pop-punk but every super fan I've ever met is a lovely, if annoying, human. That said, Nirvana's Bleach auto-played as soon as this CD ended for me and any ideas I had of rating this highly immediately went out the window. It's not that this is bad music, there's just so much better music out there. I don't think Green Day is a band people will still be listening to when my kids have kids.

Esta good pero un poco repetitivo

Classic Green Day sound full of bangers. However, it seems like there can be a bit too much of a good thing – while a lot of the songs considered separately are great, on the album they kind of blend into this homogenous wave of sound that can get pretty boring.

Seemed t gva compilation. Still prefer American Idiot.

I listened to this album on constant repeat for a few months in my mid-teens. I’m not that big on Green Day but like it as an album. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Basket Case Rating: 3

I don’t like this.

I’m exactly the right age for this to hit a lot of my nostalgia centres. However, while I love Billie Joe Armstrong’s voice and there are a handful of songs that are among my favorites, there are a bunch of tracks that just kinda sound the same. That last track is awful. Still had fun revisiting this, though. 3.5/5

Nothing special.

I love this album for its nostalgia but it’s not really my cup of tea

I never listened to Green Day much. The album was better than I expected, but not a go to for me.

Still a fun listen, does not incline me to listen to more recent albums.

🔥When I come around

Every song felt exactly the same.

Solid but Basekt Case was the only standout and could not tell the difference between songs. But Greenday is still essential music and teen angst music will always be a vibe.

Not much here I care to listen. Music from my teen son’s years. Cranberries, Foo Fighters are at top of list. Enjoyed exposure to groups I’d not heard of before.

Very nostalgic

Pretty similar from one to the next but fine overall. I won't seek this one out again though.

Good punk album, but hard to rate it above a 3 when I factor in how much better their follow-ups are.

Not my thing but I'm sure their Moms are proud.

Alright

Dia 01. Dookie por Green Day. 1. Burn Out: Começou me pegando de surpresa. 5. 8. She: Tenho a mesma opinião, tá começando a ficar cansativo. Sassafras Rots: --- 10. When I Come Around: A letra parece de algum conselho desajeitado, gosto disso.

I only recognised Basket Case off this one. Definitely preferred American Idiot

Skater punk isn’t really my thing, but the songs are catchy and fun and fit well together as an album. 3.2

I listened to this a lot back in the day, but it sounds different than I remember. Not bad on the relisten. The longevity of this band is insane. 3.8

This is definitely an album I want to listen to more times, I feel like this will grow on me heaps.

A pretty fun album but its not their best

Each tune starts out with single-string bass plucking, then fast, full-chord guitar strumming and then, immediately, super-fast drumming and whiny yell-singing. Gets boring after a while.

Not bad if you are in the mood for this sound.

Fin plade.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: I do, very nostalgic of your angst phase Favourite song: Track 9 - When I Come Around Songs liked/Total songs - 7/15

nice 3.5/5

So stoked to get this one today. Classic. A perfect record for the time. Bored teenager suburban punk rock. Most of the songs sound the same, but the bangers are all time. Longview, Basket Case, When I Come Around, Welcome to Paradise. All perfect 90s pop punk.

Solid album. Classic punk bangers like Basket Case and When I come Around. Guitar can get monotonous at times and vocals can be hard to make out on some songs. Drums and comedic-esque lyrics drive the album. Music videos were unique and helped popularize the album during the peak of MTV.

Was a 4 star until All By Myself. Jesus wept

Unique in its time. A 3.

Not the biggest green day fan anymore. Definitely an angst album you could listen to but the music is just so corny and repetitive at times

I liked it. Takes me back to being a kid but I dont think I ever listened to this album specifically.

I find this overrated. I know, at the time is was very influential and unique, but now ... s'ok. I'd give it a 3.5, but I am going to round down

Best Song: Longview. That rolling bassline is a nice, pleasant groove. Worst Song: All by Myself. Baby talk looks good on nobody. Overall: Dumb in an endearing, golden retriever sort of way. It's all riffs and upbeat gang vocals, but sometimes that's all you need.

Nostalgic but aside from the singles and a few deep cuts like Burnout surprisingly inert. I liked it a lot less than I expected to, and I'm really surprised that I thought their later albums were such a turn towards a flat pop aesthetic when it's sort of always been their bag and the difference is pretty minimal, all things considered. I think in the intervening years since this came out my taste has broadened to such an extent that when compared to something like Discharge or Drive Like Jehu, the deviation in rawness between this and American Idiot seems vanishingly small.

A few great songs but overall not my favourite

Fun little romp through the pop-punk landscape.

The songs blend into each other a bit, and everyone says they appreciate the bass a lot but honestly I just don't get it, it's not even loud enough. Still nice, though, better than anything else I've heard by them which is... well not saying a lot.

I do not have time to listen to you whine 🙁 I am glad everyone is having fun

It was ok. I did not hate it, but it's not my thang.

The album that made Pop Punk hip. Well assembled, but not really my taste.

classic punk grunge! recognized a couple, reminded me how much I like basket case

Early for them, still a few classics but not all my jam

A solid, true pink pop album. I will always love Basket Case, along View, Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around. The songs focus more on anxiety and being alone rather than stupid shit.

I don’t really like this genre or maybe just don’t really like Green Day Favourite songs: welcome to paradise, basket case, when I come around

Fun, soft 90’s punk/ska skate vibes, won’t revisit it though.

It's green day

Pretty fast pace and energtic

California post punk with a lot of pop appeal. Good drums and guitar

Pretty solid 8 song run in the middle with a few true bangers

Some classic songs, but surprisingly tame sounds and songs as a whole

It's ok. I like their later albums more. Here they kind of just feel less nihilistic and are just another angsty English punk rock band. Basket Case is like a peek into what their future sound would be like. I can see how they influenced bands like My Chemical Romance. Especially with the singing style and cadence. They really like overdrive on their guitars. A low 3/5

Okay overall, the smash hits are good but I don't love the lighter punk style a ton. I don't have much nostalgic attachment to Green Day so maybe that's related.

American campus rock. One up from REM one down from Pearl Jam. Probably a 3.6 - not great, not terrible.

the girls who get basket case get it and the girls who don't don't

🤘🏻

Classic green day!

Great album. Classic pop punk that still holds up. Fills me with nostalgia. Along with some incredible tracks, there’s a few I’d love to take off this album though.

I used to listen to lots of skate punk in my teens, and some albums still hold up really well. But this doesn't do much for me, unfortunately. I think it is regarded as one of the better early works in that genre, and certainly some songs like 'Basket Case' and perhaps 'When I Come Around' are bangers, but it is just too uneven for me to give it a higher rating. I really like Green Day's more commercially successful album 'American Idiot', but other than that I think Green Day just isn't really for me, for some reason.

I have this theory that the perfect album is about 40 min in length (maximum) as well as the perfect song is below 3 min. Well Green Day certainly puts this to the test by squeezing in 15 songs under 40 min. I first was introduced to Green Day at 14 when "American Idiot" dropped and remember being surprised to find that they were "old". Anyway, I enjoyed this album but it never quite showed the breadth and depth of "American Idiot". While enjoying the infantile lyrics and the general energy of the album, the songs kind of blend together. Still "Basket Case" and "When I come around" are for sure bangers and as a whole it is a fun album that doesn't overstay its welcome. Here's for hoping "American Idiot" is on this list too.

I feel like Green Day has maybe 3 or 4 different sounds, and at most two of them were on display on this album. The listening experience was mostly nondescript; aside from some lyrical clunkers, nothing was particularly thrilling or repulsive. Favorite track: When I Come Around. 5/10

Good fun. Antithesis of the previous day's album (Joni Mitchell - Blue). Catchy songs. Simple structures with no solos, nice vocal melodies and harmonies - fun and easy to sing along to. Last track is awful and cheapens the whole thing.

Middle section (Welcome to Paradise -> When I Come Around) is phenomenal despite utilizing fairly similar song structures, the beginning and end are even more lacking in variety though. Some phenomenal choruses and melodies really elevate the middle tracks.

Dookie

What a fun goofy band! I wonder how they feel about the war in Iraq.

Have not listened to this album in at least 25 years - forgot just how bass forward a lot of the songs are. Decent pop-punk, but certainly a hit-or-miss track listing. High points as expected, the alt radio hits.

If I'd grown up with it, I'm pretty sure I'd love it, but right now it slightly annoys me. Pop punk has always skirted the edges of guilty pleasure and utter shit for me, and this just about stays on the guilty pleasure side, although it's not a huge joy. Fairly repetitive and the vocals still remain a bugbear for me. A few decent tracks from the singles in fairness. 26/09/23

It's not my sound, but Longview and Welcome To Paradise are great tracks.

Some good songs in here and I definitely like their sound. That said, a lot of the songs sound a bit samey.

A bit unexciting considering how "influential" it was, not bad tunes though

classic punk sound? cant tell one song from another

Some classics, but soft in the middle which counts for a lot given the run time.

U.S. pop punk which was influential for the next 19 years and broke away from the grunge scene. Hard to dislike though not really my thing.

A bit boring, most of the songs sound the same

Ah, yes. High school. Three stars.

A time capsule, both topically and emotionally. Not if I like it or just get nostalgia from it.

Couple of good songs from my teen years so solid 3 stars

I knew I've song already

No mutta onpahan symppis, nuoruudenahdistusrockia. Oikein onnistuneita kappaleita lajissaan, mutta tietty aika perus. Oikeasti naiiveja mutta liian hyvin tuotettuja.

Npot as bad as I thought it would be.

Not bad, pas mon besat de green day.

burnout - 8/10 звучит хорошо текст трогает having a blast - 5/10 звучит нормас но лирика любовная и слишком депрессивная chump - 6/10 лучше чем прошлый, но текстом не могу проникнуться longview - 8/10 на уровне с burnout welcome to paradise - 9.5/10 ШИКАРНО звучит ахуенно и очень и очень текст близок ко мне pulling teeth - 6/10 звучит довольно обычно, текст смешнявый basket case - 5/10 generic грин дэй трек про травку не зацепило she - 7/10 посыл классный про free thinking и все дела но опять же дженерик sassafras roots - 5/10 может отлично зайти под настроение но овералл такое when i come around - 6/10 просто такое+ coming clean - ??? про че трек а так 4/10 emenius sleepus - 8/10 жиза in the end - 7/10 просто хороший среднячок f.o.d. - опять про любовь 3/10 all by myself - ??????

Happy major rock, nothing special, probably 3/5

not my taste

liked it for the nostalgia of this sound. would have been a 3½

So many hits from this album, but pop-punk is just not for me 2.6/5

This is my first time listening through this whole album. These guys done their homework cos the influences from all the great punk bands are apparent to hear, pistols, clash, DK's. I think this could have been a classic punk album if it had been released about 1981 but instead it was a springboard for bands like Blink 182 who were at the forefront of the American punk revival of the mid 90s along with Green Day. This is probably the best album i've heard from that time and genre. Well worth a listen.

Classic, slightly raw, very teenage, pop-rock. All the alty girls I liked from school were into this album. Listened to it in the car and it was alright you know.

It’s Green Day. It’s punk. I want I enjoy this more but men doing punk just isn’t my thing 5/10

Pretty average punk in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the singer's whiny, nasally vocals. There were a couple of good tracks though, I just wish they had a less annoying singer. Favorite track: Basket Case.

Enjoyable, self-deprecating, rock. Good.

I don't understand those who think early green day > later green day

Fun silly childish but in places inspired

Too much punk for my taste, but some good pieces and some great lyrics. Too bad it is drowned out too often by guitar battling and hard drumming.

It's tight and well produced - but I'm not the market for it

Gonna be brief and give it a C.

I do like a bit of Green Day, they're lively and energetic, a bit of fun in a world of correctness. I've heard their music termed as pop punk, but ive never heard of that term before and im not sure how correct that is, I would have said it was more polished americana garage band music, which is normally a musical area I avoid like the plauge, but these guys created something different. Dookie was their first commercial breakthrough album, and although lively, it was very samey, but thankfully they went on to pull more accomplished albums together. I hadn't listened to this album in full before, I guess I would listen to it again, but sadly there are a couple of tracks to skip in there.

Solid album, contains many amazing songs such as welcome to paradise. There is a good amount of filler tho, so I gotta rate it a 3.

repetitivo

Pretty good

A fun listen, full of catchy hooks. Pretty much the definition of same-y, although they do at least vary the tempo a few times. Not mixed particularly well, though maybe it’s a problem on my end. Maybe singlehandedly started the pop punk revival? Definitely a good album, even if it’s pretty mood-dependent for me in terms of how I feel about it. Best song: When I Come Around

Love basket case, but it was generally a bit samey

Crazy this came out in 1994. Was 3 years old. Listening to this a lot in middle school when we were using CD or watching MTV music videos. Was interesting to listen back on it.

Gets a bit repetitive in the back half of this album but is still and decent and iconic punk rock album.

I like 2 songs on this. Talented, but not for me

Found it very easy listening, particularly liked 'Pulling Teeth' & 'Basket Case' (drumming is excellent on this track) - would listen again

Having a Blast (just like me), Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, She , Sassafras Roots and When I Come Around. This is all about wasting time and being bored. Like me listening to this album.

it made me feel like skateboarding to the grocery store to get a vault soda then shooting paintball guns after. basket case

Green Day is from CA, USA Genre: Punk, rock, pop-punk, skate punk This is their 3rd studio album. Singles from Dookie: ----------------------- Longview (#1 US Alt, #36 USA, #30 UK) Welcome to Paradise (#7 US Alt, #56 USA, #20 UK) Basket Case (#1 US Alt, #56 USA, #7 UK) When I Come Around (#1 US Alt, #6 USA, #27 UK) She (#5 US Alt, #41 USA) 3.5

It's fine.

the first half has some of their better songs but the second half is barren 3.5

Bit overrated

never was a green day fan : (

Good in places, a bit of a one trick pony

This moves on at a pace with a decent rhythm section. It is standard stuff with no real invention but it is well done. The singer is not strong and someone better might elevate the experience.

Tää on loppujenlopuksi musta aika jees pop-punk levy. Kasetti ja LP-löytyy sivistyksen nimissä 3/5

Aikainen Green Day on tavallaan ihan hauskaa musaa.

Good in places. Yet another guitar rocky one which isn't really me.

neo punk

Green Day was always this mainstream'ish punk music to me so I never invested to much time in their work. Now I got suggested this album and I can say that they are alright. Some nice work from the rhythm group here. Can't say that I care too much for it. A solid listen, nothing more, nothing less.

a bit grungy

never really liked the lead singa dat much

I think I already pulled out the old tale about how I saw Green Day open for Bad Religion in the early '90s, very early days when they were on Operation Ivy's label and very punk. Nothing wrong with this though it seems like a textbook example of the mainstreamed major label release.

I like this album more than I remember. It's not world beating, but it has some great tracks on it. I'm torn between a high three or low four...

So I thought this would be fairly lightweight punk based on the little Greenday I knew And for the first few tracks that’s all it seemed to be. But as the album progressed the songs got more varied and ambitious A surprisingly enjoyable listen

starts kinda bad, cant hear the lyrics, teenage angst, better by midway instrumentals and solos kinda slap basket case and when i come around are absolute bangers love the drums last 2 songs kinda meh

I have heard it so much it’s difficult to reflect on it in this way. It was the sound track to my middle school years. I wasn’t mature enough to understand the lyrics at the time and didn’t much care about music either. Looking back at it, it’s certainly a good and influential album.

Caught me on a bad day.

Really good, catchy, energetic

Obviously this isn't my go to Green Day album and for me isn't as mega as American Idiot but there are obviously classics on here. I think it holds up!

hahaha green day

deserves a star for the bookmobile

I like American Idiot as much as the other person. But this album? Thought I'd like it, but uhhh it's very repetitive... and just plain whiney. "When I Come Around" is ripping off a famous riff but I can't remember which one Saved tracks: Chump, When I Come Around

Burnout: 2,5/5 Having A Blast: 2,5/5 Chump: 2,5/5 Longview: 3/5 Welcome to Paradise: 3/5 Pulling Teeth: 2,5/5 Basket Case: 3,5/5 She: 3,5/5 Sassafras Roots: 2,5/5 When I Come Around: 4/5 Coming Clean: 2,5/5 Emenius Sleepus: 3/5 In The End: 2,5/5 F.O.D.: 2,5/5 All By Myself: 1/5 Totaal: 2,7/5

Nostalgisen kuulloista skeitti punkkia. Aina niin nostalgisen kuullosta vaikka en nuorempana kuunnellutkaan

I liked it for you the most part, but it also felt a bit repetitive as far as the sound of the music.

I remember the massive hype around this album back in my highschool (which I did not understand). Haven't listened to it since, tried to avoid pop-punk as I could. Still, not bad at all.

I’m not a Green Day hater, in fact I think good Green Day can be really great, I just didn’t think that this album was all that special

I always like the energy of Green Day music but ultimately almost all their songs sound the same to me and the lyrics are indistinguishable for all but like two songs. A fun listen but it becomes just a homogeneous vibe to me

I mean, it’s a good punk album.

Buen disco. No es de mi estilo. Ni el mejor del grupo.

mid day (kinda hurts to say but it’s not there)

3.5 stars

A bit unexciting considering how "influential" it was, not bad tunes though

it’s j so stagnant

Good album with lots of solid songs. Nothing to crazy but definitely solid.

Very power chord heavy. Standard Green Day sound but less refined than on Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Basket Case definitely the best song, then When I Come Around.

I already really love American Idiot, but hadn't heard another Green Day album before. Pop punk is generally very hit or miss for me, and I can definitely see how significant Green Day are to this genre. Ultimately as a whole album this ended feeling a bit samey to me. There was nothing bad though and I feel like I could come to appreciate individual songs the more i listened to them, but I don't know if I would sit through the whole album front to back again.

Na ovom albumu ima hitova.

fun. fluffy. 3? 4? overplayed i think and v straight.

Nostalgiatron

They named an album after poop and then sung about jerking off. Grow up, Green Day!

Classic. Green Day was great up until American Idiot really. This album is wonderful and even though I hate saying the word "dookie" in any context it doesn't take away from anything.

A catchy pop punk album. Kids will love it, but it's not really for grown ups. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Basket Case Date listened: 18/10/22

Suprisingly underwhelming. Too many basic punk songs with little inspiration. Obviously Basket Case stands out amongst the chaff. I had expected something better, but I don't know why. No real signs of what was to come. The production is more than a little dodgy.

I never had a chance to look closely at this album cover and I'm loving monkey questioning his purpose with the dookie. This is a classic Green Day album, not my favorite, but has some awesome songs on it.

Here's a familiar face! Our second from Green Day, and whether it's blasphemous or not, I prefer American Idiot. This album has a couple classic hits and some deeper cuts I liked too, but overall not as exciting as some of their other albums. Still quite good, just not as memorable as I'd hoped. Favorite tracks: Basket Case, When I Come Around, Welcome to Paradise, All By Myself. Album art: Definitely a classic here, I love seeing this in large form because there's a ton of minute detail in the illustration. Like a wacky political cartoon, love that the missiles are labeled "DOOKIE" like a horrible Ben Garrison cartoon. Never knew or noticed before that a dog is flying the plane, and dogs are dumping dookie all over the place. Big fan of this one. 3.5/5

09/27/22 Nostalgic. Some good songs. Kinda meshed together because I accidentally had on shuffle.

Welcome to Paradise - Basket Case - When I come Around.

First cd I ever bought. Still mostly holds up and there are a couple songs that are still iconic.

Overall good, but I find that the songs mostly sound the same.

As far as pop-punk goes, it's solid. It's just not quite my thing

Good enough for those who like their pop punky or their punk poppy.

Not bad, too poppy for punk

Definitely green days best album, but feels very dated now

Rosa margar svona plötur í röð. Um flest get ég nánast skrifað sömu lýsingu og um Lemonheads, nema Green Day hafði vit á því að covera ekki Simon og Garfunkel. Og nokkur lög eru ekki leiðinleg. Tæpur þristur.

not as much nostalgia as other Green Day albums

Energetic but repetitive.

I used to be pretty anti-Green Day. I saw them as derivative, punk-lite posers. I still have a bit of that feeling, but I've mostly grown to respect them over the years. I have to admit that they have written and recorded some catchy songs, and this album is chock full of them. Still not their biggest fan, but I did enjoy this overall. 3 stars.

A very fun listen. Armstrong writes pretty relatable lyrics about anxiety and self-doubt, but without a lot of depth. The self-deprecating humor is great here and the music is fun and fast, but there's not a whole lot else.

Masturbation has never lost its fun with me so I really couldn't relate to this album.

Green Day's "Pablo Honey".

Not bad. I knew two songs already and I like them. The rest of the album is okay but the songs kind of all sound the same.

Not a huge fan of West coast pop punk, but this was a fun album

Not my cup of tea

I have never been a big fan of Green Day, or "pop punk," as it were. To me, "punk" is not popular. In its rawest form, it is a sign of rebellion against the norm, against conformity. Against popularity, "pop." So the two together is an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp, or military intelligence. Anyway, there were four songs on here that we've all heard, but what was interesting is how much the non-hits blended together for me. Billie Joe's vocals just blended into the same kind of wanker-y voice. And the guitar sounded... blah. Flat, nothing piercing through the wall of sound. The drummer didn't bring much to the table either. If you're in a trio, all three really have to be able to shine at their instruments, and really only the bass player stood out. So this is one of those "I know the hits, kinda like them, but the non-hits are non-hits for a reason." So nothing exciting here for me.

Never been a Green Day fan. They've got some hits and good rock hooks, but it never felt as authentic to me as some of the other acts at this time who helped revive punk in the 90's, like Bad Religion or Rancid. It's Punk-Lite for spoiled suburban kids who want to feel edgy and have a revolution without ever leaving the comfort of their entitled lives.

A good album but not really my thing

Green Day’s got better shit than this It’s not really my genre, idk 5/10

i liked green day! i wasn’t expecting much since the album is literally called dookie but i was pleasantly surprised. they sound a little basic and high schooly, but it was good!

I've heard the big songs on this roughly 800,000 times but never put the entire album on. I get why people might love this - it's definitely engineered (both literally and figuratively/songwriting-wise) to be catchy as hell; fast-paced power chords in a major key, with very melodic vocal lines. It's generally not my cup of tea (I hate tea) overall; I'm not really a fan of punk and although this is more pop-punk along the lines of a more melodic Ramones or early Goo Goo Dolls it still has that non-stop intensity that again - I get, but I just like a little more instrumentation and/or tempo variety. Having said that, it's such a representation of the mid-90s and really is a good sounding record, will put it right up the middle as a 3 even if it's not something I'm putting on. 7/10 3 stars

Personally I didn’t love this album but I understand why’d it’s so popular

6/10. Basket Case is great, but half the album just sounds like Basket Case but lamer.

Loaded with classics. 3.5/5 because I don't know the entire album that well.

All the songs kinda sound the same

An absolute classic. This album's secret weapons are both the strong, memorable basslines and presence throughout + Billy Joel's intuitive sense of melodic rhythm and harmony. Pushing and pulling against the instrumental, Armstrong's verses elevate this LP from standard punk to a deserving classic.
