I had only hear the hits on this album, so interesting to give it a listen. Mostly very country-rock-typical-what-you-expect-from-the-Eagles, pleasant but a bit banal after a while. A couple of nice surprises though, in Chug All Night and Take the Devil, which had some nice grit. Would love to hear Joe Walsh cover those.

Solid 3/5. Some decent tunes but definitely a warm up for Hotel California.

I sort of like the Eagles for nostalgia reasons, but this one wasn't so great. To be honest, I was never a huge fan, really just a Greatest Hits and radio songs sort of listener. There's some to like here. But then there were some really low parts too like Witchy Woman and especially Most of us are Sad.. Earlybird was my favorite; great intro with the plucky banjo and then nope. Sigh.

Ugh. This album ... Yes, it's good. Yes, it's overplayed. No, I don't enjoy listening to it.

On “Hotel California,” I said that The Eagles are best when they hit that classic rock groove. Which they do on “Witchy Woman.” But they only do it there. “Take It Easy” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” are the slow country rock ballads that The Eagles did well and made their name on, but I need more “Witchy Woman.” Like many classic rock bands on the list, they're better as a greatest hits compilation.

I’ve always been an Eagles greatest hits 1 or 2 kind of fan. I never explored their album catalogue. I wasn’t familiar with most of this album. Nightingale and Tryin’ grabbed my attention. Nightingale feels upbeat. I like that little bit of overdriven distortion in the guitar for Tryin’ as well as the solos. From two listens, I’m not a fan of Most Of Us Are Sad. It is a depressing sounding song. Maybe it will get better as I listen more. I went from disliking Earlybird the first time to appreciating it the second time. I definitely hear the bird calls. It’s the banjo that threw me off. I was not expecting bluegrass rock from the Eagles. The song is OK on its own, but it doesn’t fit the rest of the album well. I tend to forget how much I love Peaceful Easy Feeling. Part of it is that it fits well with my limited vocal range. The laid back vibe always puts me in a good mood. With the greatest hits classics and a couple new songs to me that I like a lot, I’ll be venturing into Eagles album territory.

It was alright. It had a couple of recognizable songs - Take It Easy and Witchy Woman. I would listen to those again but not the whole album. I will round up.

Very middle of the range, nothing to really get excited or angry about. Got a feeling it's on heavy rotation in Hard Rock cafes. I like hotel California so it was annoying not to find it here. Peak meh, more of a 2 than a 3.

I have a "Best of" album of the Eagles in the car. Contains fewer songs from this album than I expected - Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are classics, and I really liked Peaceful Easy Feeling. Hotel California is a 6 star album, so looking forward to that coming on and providing a full "analysis" of each song.

Never listened to the eagles before, enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Less poppy than I would've imagined. Taking it easy is probably the highlight. Thought most of us are sad was pretty good too. Not sure I'm too fussed about the rest

Not a big Eagles fan. I've never really liked their vibe much, especially Don Henley's persona. I think the cover photo is the best thing this album has going for it. Take It Easy is mostly solid as well but that was written by Jackson Browne. Standout Tracks: Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling

That was some of the most chill and relaxing rock I've ever heard. That's some feel good music. Makes me wanna be at the beach or something. Great harmonies.

A classic album! Sometimes I get a little down on the Eagles because they can feel a little commercial and overplayed, but they really did have a great sound with tight vocal harmonies.

What an album. Peaceful easy feeling and take it easy are personal highlights. Eagles know how to write a song with ‘easy’ in the title.

The Eagles really tempt me to hate them, but I don't. The timid distortion on those guitars? The Grateful Dead-lite vibe of some of these songs? Sorry, guys. I don't know what it is, but this works for me in a very light-rock, nostalgic way. Is this the first band I reach for? No it is not. But it ain't dead last, either.

The Eagles are a funny one - both enjoying wild, widespread popularity but also critical disdain for what is seen as a privileging of bland ultra-competence over grit, spunk or soul. I think there's a kernel of truth to the latter position. But surely even the haters have to acknowledge that 'Take It Easy' and 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' are perfect AM radio rock? And there are a couple of other cool cuts on this album - 'Earlybird' is a charming curio, plus the scenesters would jizz their keks if 'Witchy Woman' was by Redbone. There is, however, a dollop of filler here - and if 'Chug All Night' is not the Eagles' worst track - that's 'James Dean' - then, by god, it might be their worst song title; it's utter porridge! At least 'Tryin'' rocks.

The eagles get a lot of hate for reasons that go over my Gen Z head but I've never reacted to their music very poorly. This album wasn't mind-blowing or revolutionary by any means but it was a pleasant 37 minutes. The equivalent of a popcorn movie. Probably also a high 3.

Liked it, rock but also country ish

Classic easy listening. Mostly radio hits. Take it easy, easy feeling.....then CHUG ALL NIGHT.

Eagles at their best (aside from Hotel California album), it just doesn't get much better than this for timeless kick back, relax and enjoy music. I've always loved their arrangements mixing acoustic and electric guitar, they make it all seem so effortless, yet a lot of the chord arrangements are quite complex.

A long-time favourite band of mine, grew up listening to Eagles entire catalogue. This has some early classics which I love including Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take It Easy and Trying. Not their best album in my opinion but I still enjoy it (apart from that bird!)

Really great debut album from one of the best rock bands of all time. Not really a bad song on the album but a couple songs are just kinda meh. My favorite songs are "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "Nightingale" and "Tryin'". The rest is solid, and some of it sounds a little derivative but those tracks are still good. 8/10

This style of country rock has always sounded like background music to me. Strange album experience because all songs kinda have the same vibe and a similar sound but some are clearly better than others. Anytime I’ve listened to this album I’ve had the same thought: “why don’t I just listen to their greatest hits?” Aside from maybe Train leaves here this morning, there’s no deep cuts that stand out from any other 70s SoCal rock song. 👍: Take it easy, Peaceful easy feeling

Man, this drummer kicks ass. Each song I was beating on my legs are tapping a water bottle. Like even for Chug all night, it was kinda corny but the drums saved it I don’t really care for the slow stuff but it wasn’t necessarily bad. Overall decent album but nothing stood out to me

Tell me the eagles make basic and generic music all you want, they know how to make some cool soothing music. Yeah they didn’t reinvent music as we know it. I don’t care. It sounds good. The dorks can keep worrying about the history of music; I’m gonna listen to the eagles, have a beer, and enjoy life. The most overrated band of all time.

This album makes me think of my mom. She's a bigger fan of Crosby, Stills, and Nash but she likes a couple songs from this album. Specifically, Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. It was nice to gain a bigger appreciation for the songs she likes but I don't think I'll be delving much deeper into their discography on my on volition.

This is a lot more CSNY than I expected. I can't pick out Don Henley's voice anywhere in the tracks but I hear his signature sound. I know the popular songs but not the rest and it'll probably stay that way.

"I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man." Jokes aside, the Eagles are alright and I really dig Hotel California even though its been played to death. Hotel California is on the album with the same name though and not on this one. This is 100% dad rock and not the good type of "gubbrock" as we call it in Sweden.

There are better Eagles albums.

Absolutely shitty lyrics throughout. The production does sound great for what its worth. I don't know what I did to deserve two Eagles records in a row followed by Dire Straits of all things. I'm pretty sure my dad owns multiple copies of all of these albums.

I’m very biased on this album, but this is one of if not my favorite Eagles albums and I have no mediocre jokes to make about this one. I mean is there anything better than a little chugging and little hugging? 4.5 stars

Great album and can see how this helped propel the Eagles into being the legends they became. This just encapsulated the “Eagles” sound. Nightingale was great along with Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Chug All Night held the album back from being a potential 5. 4.7/5.0

In 2016, I developed a crush on a gorgeous girl on the dorm floor above me who was a huge Eagles fan (despite not knowing who Don Henley was). Today, she is married, and I am writing a review of the Eagles debut album while procrastinating law school work. Regarding the actual music, this is a great look behind the curtain at who the Eagles were starting out. I unabashedly will say I would listen to this album over Hotel California any day, despite it being objectively weaker music. This is early Eagles, and this is pure country rock, heavily influenced by lead guitarist Bernie Leadon, formerly of the Flying Burrito Brothers (check em out, please). If Hotel California is the Eagles on cocaine and stardom, their debut album is the Eagles on peyote and a cheap bologna sandwich trying to make it big when they aren't Linda Ronstadt's backing band. The banjo on Take It Easy is what elevates it from catchy tune to country rock classic, the harmonies and guitar solo on Peaceful Easy Feeling (maybe a top 3 Eagles tune?) are perfect. But this album pulls its weight with Nightingale, a rocker that wouldn't even be so outta place on something like Hotel California, and Train Leaves Here This Morning, a great laid-back Leadon track. No, he wasn't as good a guitarist (or drunk) as Joe Walsh, but he played a far more important role as the Eagles first guitar hero before Don Felder and Walsh join the Frey later in the decade. Now, can we talk about the war crime that is Chug All Night into Most of Us Are Sad? Two terrible songs that when sequenced together become even worse. Tryin' and Earlybird were ok, but please respect this album the aforementioned deep cuts I defended in the previous paragraph. This is a light 4, not nearly on par with Led Zeppelin II. P.S. Shoutout Randy Meisner, Scottsbluff Bearcat.

Hand up, first time listening to this album outside of Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Some misses but some monster hits. I love the contrast on back to back songs like Peaceful Easy Feeling and Tryin’.

I LOVE THE EAGLES AN IMMEDAIATE 5/5

Because I've never listened to this album, it was an interesting mix of either songs I've heard 17 billion times or songs I've never heard. The songs I'd never heard held up to the classics, and this was some good stuff.

Being a “best of” kind of Eagles fan, much of this album was new. By the second listen, all the tracks felt familiar due to that easy-breezy, California-country-rock-squeezy style.

Holy smokes! I'd never quite registered the banjo-picking that comes in on the instrumental section of Take It Easy. That's quite something. Nice to listen to classic country-tinged rock from the early 70s. It gave this witch-ay woman a peaceful easy feeling for sure.

I grew up listening the The Eagles: Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Hotel California. That and their later hits have pretty much been it for me. It was great hearing the first album. Talk about coming out of the gate fast… the first two songs on the first album, Take It Easy and Witchy Woman, remain some of the best of a group with a lot of bests. Really wonderful.

Highlights: "Take It Easy" The thing about this Eagles album is they have a couple decent singles but just look at 1972. What a year. Talking Book. Can't Buy A Thrill. Pink Moon. Let's Stay Together. Close to the Edge. Machine Head. Even stuff in Eagles' own ostensible subgenre like Harvest and Can't Buy A Thrill blows them out of the water. That just leaves them the sellout of Laurel Canyon, the boyband parasite of The Grateful Dead, the well-produced gang of real musicians who refuse to be more than mediocre. The Eagles grew over time. Their songwriting got stronger and more varied. They had far better ballads and far better rockers. Meaning this is also probably their worst album. Mere professionalism in production and performance, no less, no more.

Solid classic rock option

The early countrified Eagles aren't really my thing, though I know many feel the opposite. But as such, this album isn't a favorite of mine, though even here, the Eagles show themselves as more than capable of writing a decent pop song here. Hearing Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon each provide lead vocals on songs here is a bit jarring. But also I just watched Marcel the Shell with Shoes On this past weekend, in which Marcel sings "Peaceful Easy Feeling", and that alone bumps this to a 4.

I like the sound, not something I anticipated saying of a project with so much banjo. Really like Take It Easy and Witchy Woman, Most of Us Are Sad is also good. I see why their producer didn’t want to make an album before hearing them harmonizing, the harmonies are certainly a highlight. Real feel good easy listening grandpa rock. Good to have on, though mainly as background.

Very easy and breezy overall. Listening to this album felt like driving through the desert in a convertible: there were times where I was driving slowly and watching the landscape roll by, and there were other times where I was I was flying down at top speed. This album is pretty generic but serviceable 70s rock, fast and fun, but nothing mind blowing or inventive.

I mean, this is the one, right? This is the Eagles album that made them the favorite band of old white dudes everywhere. It's their first and probably their best. "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" are hard to argue with. Add to that great sleeper tracks like "Take the Devil" and "Most of Us Are Sad" and you've got a pretty good album. I mean, I'm still not a fan, mind you. As always, Eagles are annoyingly soft rock and every song is a poorly-veiled adolescent sexual innuendo... but the guitar licks are good and there's an energy here that's missing from their later albums so that's worth an extra star.

I think it fell a little bit short of some of the other 70s rock albums I've had so far, and considering its titular track, I think I'm probably going to enjoy Hotel California some more if/when that comes around. I love

As a teenager, I hated The Eagles. They were boring dad rock and the local Rock station played Hotel California constantly, which gave me a passionate hatred of that song. Now as a much more mellow adult, I have decided to give them a real chance. It was off to a good start with Take it Easy and Witchy Woman. Witchy Woman really is a fantastic song and will probably be the only thing to really save this album for me because after that, it was kind of downhill. Nothing really grabbed me. Honestly when you compare it to many of the other albums that came out around this timeframe, this just seems watered down and uninspired. I can't put my finger on why, but it sounds like it is lacking any kind of emotions.

Nou, na 28 albums eindelijk de eerste die ik op LP heb (na twee keer vals alarm bij Deep Purple en Jethro Tull). Een super goed album, maar nog niet zo goed als de Eagles uiteindelijk worden. Take It Easy en Peaceful Easy Feeling zijn super, Witchy Woman net iets minder, en de rest blijft er ook wel onder. Dus 4 sterren zijn voldoende.

Not an especially memorable one but a lovely easy Sunday morning listen.

This is full on beige - Take It Easy is a decent enough song, but not particularly memorable, but the rest of it really doesn't inspire much of anything. Perfectly pleasant to listen to in the most part (Chug All Night feels very weird and out of character for them), but it's pretty unambitious given how good their voices are. Should be doing a lot more (and did so with some later albums, much better than this). 2/5.

Man, this album was not good at all. Like, Witchy Woman was alright, but the rest was either at best a poor man's America or at worst god awful country rock with no variety or depth. I would give the little bit for the small parts that were okay, but of course they're also obnoxious about music streaming and make it impossible to play the only okay song on the album within the album itself. Nah, fuck this band, I knew all they were good for was Hotel California, and this album doesn't even have that radio fodder.

The sound of country rock in the early 70s. A trip back to a mythical time of faded denim, carefree beautiful women and endless warm nights by swimming pools partying. The three and four part harmonies are where the real magic is found, and Don Henley's voice is incomparable.

Good, but I don't think I would listen to again

I surprisingly liked this record. They borrowed a lot from groups like CSNY and American Beauty-era Grateful Dead. Inoffensive soft rock. They really honed in on that 70s-singer/songwriter/laurel canyon sound.

Couldn’t wait for this to be over. Country without any heart. Folk without any passion. Rock without any bite. Lynyrd Skynyrd without any sense of fun. The Grateful Drag. Credence Clearwater Revulsion. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Yuck. Should I keep going? Eagles suck man.

I was waiting for this album to be over for most of its run time. I felt like blowing my brains out while listening to this. That feeling wasn't really related to the fact that I was listening to this album, but it sure didn't help. It wasn't bad, but it was boring. The first two songs were okay, but there's not much going on after that. My favourite song was Earlybird.

This album appears to have been released 1 year before I myself was born. You look at a record in the seventies stocked with at least 3 bonafied hits (Take it Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling), and, like me, you may be lulled into thinking you have landed upon a masterpiece. [sound of record player coming to screaming halt, e.g. when Animal House misfits walk into blues & soul bar..] Unfortunately for the sons of Linda Ronstadt, it did not play out that way on this record, yet they lived to more than survive. Mostly dribble here, but again, they grew & succeeded. Sometimes the delay of dominant success is the best thing a worthy band can ask for, particularly in the musical landscape which existed in the early/mid-70s. Artists who were resilient enough and had the support structure to lick their wounds, bounce back, find and gain a lasting audience based on their raw talent, like the Eagles had, were given the chance to come to the table and slay the American AOR populace once again. And this band and its principal songwrtiting core clearly did not think twice when it recieved further opportunities to deliver some of the greatest songs and records in American rock and roll history.

I think the opening track summarizes the entire album with Take it Easy. Such a carefree ideology may make one think that the songs lack a seriousness or respect for the art. An understandable concern, but Eagles do an incredible job of creating one of the most easy listening albums of all time while also having the songs be listenable. Even the harder rocking songs had a breezy, relaxed aspect to them that was crafted to perfection. There were some pitfalls, though, as some later tracks were just sort of forgettable if it had not been for the couple classic songs that hold this album together. A great free feeling to this album, but not all songs are worth listening to more than a few times. 4/5

Amazing sound and an amazing album. I absolutely adore the easy listening and the production that makes it just that. Each track is layered perfectly, with each component clearly heard. The melodies are catchy and great harmonies from the from the group. A perfect run time as well, the perfect length.

Great debut album by the Eagles, really liked the sound here which I felt was more raw and actually more blues-rock esque than their later albums. Reminded me a bit more of CCR

"I hate the fucking eagles, man." I never really understood that line because I always like their hits like "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy" but Jesus Christ when you get a whole album of it they just really get under your skin. Couldn't make it more than 3 or 4 songs before turning it off.

It’s hard to see what makes Eagles distinctive. Much of the album is dull and tiresome with little to excite the listener.

i hate country, even in the form of rock

This CD is ok, but it’s aged incredibly poorly. “Take It Easy” is a fantastic song and a fantastic way to start an album. But it goes off the rails almost immediately- “Witchy Woman” and “Chug All Night” have an extremely dated, very 70s, very by-the-books working-class-blues sound, with some awfully misogynistic undertones in the lyrics. That theme mostly continues uninterrupted for basically the rest of the CD- every song is either a dull ballad (and it really does have too many of those) or a genre I call “mediocre 70s rock”- that basic, self-satisfied style that assumed that 12-bar blues, backbeat, riffs based on suspended 4ths and a twangy voice singing about girls would be enough to make it to the top. The only thing that really distinguishes the Eagles is their vocal talent, and they really do have a lot of it- they have at least two distinct strong lead singers on this CD, maybe more, and strong (and reasonably interesting) vocal harmonies throughout. It’s just the rest of it is so weak, that alone can’t carry. They do kind of regain their footing at the end- “Peaceful Easy Feeling” is a great song, and the two “Easy” songs (which are quite similar and sung by the same guy, which makes me think he must’ve written one, realized it was a hit, then immediately tried as best as possible to rewrite it to churn out another hit) would’ve made a stellar double-A-side. But the whole thing makes just a mediocre album.

Love Take it Easy. Hate Witchy Woman. Rest of the album did nothing for me. Eagles remain high on my list of overrated 70's bands.

Every time I try to get into the Eagles it doesn’t really work. I just don’t have much use for soft rock unless it has a jazzy tinge ala the Dan. And frankly, I don’t see what listening to the album tracks will add to your life, when they’re largely forgettable compared to the hits. Although “Take it Easy” blows. C-

Oh boy... here we go... My perspective of The Eagles has largely been based on negative opinions from music fans. Maybe it was their omnipresent hold on the psyche of the culture and their admittedly surprising accolades and achievements and the cantankerous nature of the band members towards themselves and later musicians who would attempt to interpolate their sounds with theirs; to make a long story short, The Eagles aren't seen as cool. So, in coming across this album, I was expecting something of a farce; a confirmation of the preconceived notions of blandness and overratedness. I was wrong. This album is great. Sure some of the foreign yet familiar songs threatens to make the album teeter towards the emergent dad rock that'll come but, thankfully, that doesn't happen and what I came across was an album that wore its aesthetic and influences on its sleeve (the Dillard & Clark cover was a pleasant surprise) and pinpointed its intentions for future success. Cosmic country posers or not, The Eagles couldn't be denied on their first go around. Put down all preconceptions and give this a try.

This is the first time so far that I've gotten a second record from a band I've already listened to in this exercise. The first record by the Eagles that I got was the classic Hotel California. This record is their self titled debut. It has three well known and fantastic singles on it: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful Easy Feeling. You can tell that this is an early album in the bands career simply because they were still experimenting, trying to find their sound (country rock/dad rock). There are some lesser known songs on here that are fantastic. Some songs are fairly rockin' compared to other songs in the Eagles catalog. The harmonies that Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon can reach is phenomenal, and creates that signature sound that is so recognizably the Eagles. This was another great listen, so much so that I listened to it twice. Favourite songs: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Nightingale, Chug All Night, Tryin' Least favourite songs: if forced to choose, Most Of Us Are Sad. It just didn't move me like the other songs did, but is still a great tune. 4/5

Nice early country rock (from LA but has a better country sound than most country). Good harmonies and melodies with pretty good songwriting. A variety of tones and themes are covered, and most are done at least competently. There is, however, quite a bit of album filler and weaker tracks. I hear a lot more of Boston in this album that I expected (or rather, since this came first, there’s more Eagles in Boston than I realized; that’s a plus because I like Boston). The amount of filler definitely brings it down, but it’s still a very solid album. Borderline 3-4 stars, I’m leaning 4 since the listen was an overall very positive experience. Top Tracks - Take it Easy – Nice and Chill - Witchy Woman – Cool vibes. Femme fatale songs are cool. - Peaceful Easy Feeling – Great solo and general good vibes.

2.6 - Bland! Eagles have suffered considerable popular backlash thanks in no small part to the Big Lebowski. Having never heard this album, I thought some of that flack was unfairly directed, similar to how that one line in Sideways torpedoed Merlot wine sales. But now that I've heard this album I think that Eagles hate is fully justified.

True American heritage. Musical artisans through and through. Sweet country tunes, rock and blues rock in a careful balance. Not full five stars because cheesiness is always around the corner.

I used to listen to The Eagles quite a lot - but usually to all of their tracks mixed together, so I didn't know these tracks are from their debut. And you wouldn't hear it without knowing - the tracks are amazingly polished and mature for a debut effort. However, they don't completely come together in a organic way. The styles of the different songwriters are still a bit too distinct. As a whole, it's still a very good album and The Eagles' success was well-deserved. That said, I almost took a star off because of the jarring, abysmal Earlybird. No idea how that made its way through production. But the rest is good enough to look past that mistake. The two biggest highlights of the album are the two Henley songs for me - Witchy Woman (a longtime favorite of mine) and Nightingale.

The Eagles were playing in town the other night at the local hockey arena supporting their old album, "Hotel California" played in it's entirety. This is probably the only Eagles record I could actually listen to start to finish and the show featured only one original member of the band that played on the debut, Eagles. Pre- H.C., they were a laid-back, easy-going California band, that played something along the lines of Americana country folk rock. It was MOR and really nothing special and it took the recruitment of guitarist, Joe Walsh on H.C. to take the band to the next level. As far as their first album, there are a couple classic songs, I assume they play every show (Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling), apart from that, the rest is underwhelming, it's OK...but there are a lot better albums in the genre for sure.

Pretty fun, pretty solid, feels like good background music for a BBQ or hanging out at a lake. Camping music, around a fire. "Witchy Woman" I loved as a kid and it holds up.

The hits are great, filler is forgettable

Without a doubt the most boomer rock band out there, but who cares. 'Take It Easy' is one of the greatest opening tracks on a debut ever. However, it's no coincidence that their best-selling album is their greatest hits. As you say in Danish, 'There is far between the schnapses', and for every memorable track, you have at least two that does not move me in any way. It's odd because I am bored during the acoustic tracks and then when the electric guitars kick in I am yearning for a more stripped-down instrumentation. 'Take the Devil' manages to hit a sweet spot though, and 'Tryin' is not half bad either.

Eagles’ strongest card by far is the fact that they’re all solid vocalists and their ability to write strong vocal harmonies. It shines through on almost every song alongside the joy of just playing together. There are obvious low point, such as “Chug All Night”, where they let straight up rock have the upper hand. Everything sounds more in place when they take it down a notch and let the melodies lead the way; as on “Take the Devil”. This is a great template of everything that was to come for one of history’s best selling bands!

Not bad, not great. A bit to soft for me and a lot of songs are a dime a dozen. Most of Us are Sad and Train leaves here this Morning are the better tracks, both sounding a bit like Neil Young. Vastly inferior to Hotel California.

It’s the Eagles. It’s not as bad as I thought - it’s listenable at least so it’s a 3/5 but because it’s the Eagles, it loses one star.

Over the last five decades, we've made a lot of societal progress. We've recognized human rights for marginalized groups, developed language to describe differing experiences, and expanded communication on a global scale. We've also come to realize that the Eagles suck ass. By blending the instrumentation of rock with the crossover country singer-songwriter stylings of guys like John Denver, Jim Croce, and Gordon Lightfoot, the Eagles watered down both genres to audio diarrhea. Lacking the punch of the former or the songwriting chops of the latter, these guys produced music with all the personality of a faded denim jacket. It's pretty sad, because a number of members of this band have produced much better music in their solo careers. I guess they brought out the worst in each other.

Not much here beyond the singles, and as I don't like Witchy Woman that is two tracks. Two stars is generous. The stars aligned as a singles band got it together for one terrific album. This is not that album.

Some hits, slow rock

This is a good debut album. Sounds great. Good songs, lyrics decent, vocals great. Variety of soft and harder rocking tunes.

I love the Eagles, so it's hard for me to not give this a 5. For me, they are the epitome of easygoing, country rock, and even within that genre, this album demonstrates a selection of diverse sounds and strong themes. Yet, if I wanna stick to my rating guns, I have to accept that the "countryness" is maybe harped on a bit too much (in sound and lyrics), and a couple of the tracks might be a slog for some (like "Most of Us Are Sad" or "Take the Devil").

Due to my deadhead hot hippie mom, and my favorite high school math teacher, I already had a love / appreciation for the eagles, including some of this album. Favorites are: take it easy, witchy woman, train leaves here this morning, peaceful easy feeling, and tryin’. Nightingale/ Early bird both gave me headaches.

An Eagles album without Hotel California is just elevator music. But in all seriousness, I guess this was fine. "Take It Easy" was an ear worm but the rest of the album was too bland for my tastes.

I became familiar with "Take it Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" when I was just little, and certainly not allowed to pick the radio station. These songs were just ubiquitous so I thought that's what music sounds like. Taking a critical ear to the this album, now, I hear how very deeply twangy it is. That doesn't instantly disqualify it, I do love me some CCR. But past Take It Easy, which I can't really judge, and Witchy Woman with now strikes me as deeply weird, Chug All Night is terrible, just terrible, and it goes pretty much downhill from there. This is drivel. Oh mercy, I just got to Earlybird; I was thinking 2 stars because of the hits but man this is dreadful. What a shame. These guys are all so talented, but the whole is so much less than the sum of the parts. Oof. Makes me wonder what other 70's culture that I swallowed whole without question I should be reexamining?

I really dislike this band. People seem to love them for reasons that are entirely unclear to me. They are fine. Their music is fine. Their lyrics are fine. That's it. There are a thousand bands that deserved the radio airplay that the Eagles got more than the Eagles did, and that's what bothers me about this band. This album starts off with Take It Easy, which is an okay song, and then it gets progressively stupider from there. Chug All Night sounds like a song I would write and play for my friends as a stupid joke. Most of Us Are Sad is so on-the-nose that it knocked my glasses off my face. Every song after that is essentially indistinguishable to me because the Eagles are hacks. Peaceful, Easy Feeling is an okay song, I guess because it's basically Take It Easy without the banjo. Fuck the Eagles, I'm out 2/5

Too country to actually be good.

Hotel California is the first good thing that springs to mind when someone mentions the Eagles. Unfortunately, that's not on this album so, moving on... By the time I get to Earlybird, and the banjo kicks in, I'm thinking of Convoy. Y'know, the Movie. Yep, we're in peak flag-waving, soft-rock, 'Murica territory. Which is fine, but there's a limited appeal and audience for that, which I am not in. Pass.

I've been to Winslow, AZ. There are only a handful of corners there. I wonder which corner he was standing at. For the real review, I think this album is awesome. I'm surprised, but it feels very southwest. I'm a big fan of western/southwestern culture, so this was a welcome surprise! The entire album is full of 70s bangers. After listening to this record, I vomited my lunch into the face of a premature baby. It's Friday and I often swing by the maternity ward on my lunch hour. I had just polished off a handsome meal consisting of seaweed, carrots and horseradish, swilled down with a jug of piping hot strawberry lemonade. I'd seen eleven babies already and my heart was feeling so full. The twelfth baby was next up, I approached slowly, not to startle it. It looked so small, more so than the previous eleven babies. There was something different about this baby, it had tubes hanging out of it. I took one look at its face and gulped. Then the vomited poured put of my face like an overflowing sewage pipe. It completely covered that baby. God knows if it survived, I barely did.

These guys need to watch out. A wayward Darwin Nunez shot could kill them at any point.

Yeah. Eagle by eagles for eagles. We get it. But that album was good.

I'm sorry Americans. This is not revenge for anything. But it's so self-indulgent American it basically deserves to be shot into space.

The atrocity that put country music on the map, this album is not only bland, annoying, and widely overrated; but it managed to popularize the act of taking the same sound someone has done and repeating it into oblivion. This album hurt the music landscape and I will never forgive it for that. The bird song was okay tho. 0.8/10 (wish I could give it a 0 damn this site)

Begins well but songs soon become fairly tepid

I can see why some of these made the best of, there are some absolute stormers here. The other tracks are a bit less outstanding, but it was a very pleasant experience.

A classic I already loved

Sounds like they are doing covers of better bands songs. No heart, negative soul.

This was a good, fun album. I liked the country influenced rock sound. If I had to pick a stand out track it would be Nightingale or Tryin', but I wouldn't say that any tracks *really* stood out from the others. This isn't a bad thing, they were just all the same vibe for me.

The Self titled Eagles album was a great listen. Kinda what I need to listen to early in the morning to mellow out the rest of my day. Standouts include Take it Easy, Witchy Woman, and Early Bird

Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected - knew Take it Easy and Witchy Woman of course, but the rest was good as well - reminded me of CNSY in sound (lots of vocal harmonies, that alt-country sound).

Always been baffled by the amount of records Eagles have sold, but I can see the appeal in Take It Easy, and the chaotic birdsong/banjo combo on Earlybird was fun. 'Chug All Night' is an awful phrase though.

A solid first effort for The Eagles and their trademark Californian Rock. The obvious standout is Take It Easy, and the rest of the songs are nice as well. However, it seems that that Eagles spark that dominated much of their later material is still missing here. That doesn't mean the album can't be enjoyed. It's just not their strongest collecton of material. 3.5/5
