Reviews (page 8 of 10)

Thank god they didn’t make me listen to Hotel California.

There's a lot to commend about this fine album, featuring some timeless music that's well played, well sung and tastefully produced. One thing that sticks out is how heavily influenced they were by The Beach Boys vocal harmonies. The lead guitar parts are also notable. The main complaint for me is the lyrics which are a bit pedestrian, but it's a non issue if you're happy just to tap along with the rolling grooves.

I like the Eagles and I love The Big Lebowski, such inner conflict! 😎 I like the hits, Take It Easy is a favourite, but as an overall album, it often lags in places.

70s rock isn’t really my thing. This didn’t change my mind.

This album is fine. I'd say that their best two albums are Hotel California and The Long Run. Why the Long Run isn't on this list is a mystery to me. When it comes to their next best album it is a toss-up between Eagles, Desperado, On the Border, and One of These Nights. Standouts: Peaceful Easy Feelin', Take it Easy, Witchy Woman. 3.5/5

chunky 70s silly overblown

Oportunidade para escutar além do hit que abre o álbum, toda a sequencia do country rock.

Big fan… enjoyed

A good collection of songs, fine harmonies, nice and easy does it.

This doesn't deserve nearly as much hate as the kids on college radio who have listened to a whopping five drone and musique concrete records give it but it also doesn't really deserve the adoration the generation before yours might have given it. It's musically competent but I think it's a bit better when it bares it teeth and goes for a Halloween or JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit kind of sound as opposed to a sitting back and drinking pineapple flavored alcohol kind of sound.

Pleasant enough, country rock

I have a confession to make… I like dadrock

My Dads favourite band, therefore Iv heard take it easy and peaceful easy feeling far to many times to enjoy them. Wasn’t as familiar with the other songs on the album, it’s not bad very easy listening.

This is total dad rock. Some classic singles, some tracks that don't stand out.

Good for its genre, nostalgic, not always my kind of thing

1972. Take It Easy, Witchy Woman

First song was good, then there was a sad song that was too real. Overall Ok album. Very telling of what rock was like back in the day.

Knew some of the songs. Bunch of classics. The rest though, meh.

Feel good, but too country

Take it Easy - First song in and the name fits well, super chill, easy listening rock - Quite a nice song. Witchy Woman - IT'S THE INTRO! Me and Ken where losing our minds trying to guess this at the pub quiz! - Sick song though Nightingale - All seem pretty Vanilla so far (Witchy Woman is the only one sticking out. Train Leaves Here This Morning - Another nice song but again, super slow and chill. Overall a good album, though the only song I'd probably choose to listen to again is Witchy Woman - its a bit too dull for me, maybe good for background listening.

A dreamy album, which quite reflects in Witchy Woman and Take It Easy, based on the Crosby Stills & Nash-like vocal harmonies that were all the rage that year. (6/10) FT: Take It Easy

After listening to this I think I should have given Prince a 2. Easy listening with a couple bangers. Funny that they released a greatest hits album before Hotel California ever came out.

Decent classic rock album. As much as it’s cool to be like the Dude and hate the eagles, they’ve made some songs that are catchy and pretty solid. This album starts with the hits and meddles out then picks up at the end. 7.2/10

I get why this album is important in the grand scheme of things, and it did have one great tune (Witchy Woman) and two pretty good ones (Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling). Still, without more Henley vocals, and with the mish-mash of styling, it left a 3-star taste in my mouth.

I actually expected this to be a 5 star album, but eagles go a long way up from this album! Still great and timeless songs, but a lot of the album was less exciting than a large amount of the eagles’ catalogue I’m more familiar with.

3 stars. They’re great at what they’re great at, but I hate the ballads

So over-rated. Yes hits ate fine I suppose, though Witchy Woman I could live without. Why can't I live in an alternate universes where bands like The Jayhawks and Wilco are superstars and The Eagles are the "good" band that most people have never heard of. Of course in that universe I'd probably give this album 4.5 stars. In this universe Eagles gets 3 🌟

like country and western rock, didn't really get on with it

Pleasant enough, knew a few if the songs

Another classic dad rock album, quite a lot of the songs were a bit similar for me to have any strong opinion about this album. But it was very pleasant background music

Not bad at all.

Pleasant enough. Repetitive but I liked listening to it

It was good, but not great. And it was definitely a hit-or-miss type of record, with some songs right up my alley and others just so dreadfully boring.

It was about half good, half bad here. Not much else to say.

growing up is realizing the eagles are not as good as your dad thinks they are

Well crafted easy listening country. Unmemorable.

Pretty ambivalent.

Solid Americana

Better than I expected since I'm used to Hotel California and their more country sounding material. Side A is stronger than Side B, but a pretty decent album overall.

When you think of the Eagles, the sound on a majority of this encompasses ‘The Eagles’ sound; multi-voice harmonizing, multiple guitar parts, signature 70s blue jeans rock n roll. Chug All Night is fun. Tryin’ is great too. The biggest downfall is that the slower songs don’t seem to stick out as much as the more upbeat ones.

Aside from the eagles songs everyone knows there are some real gems on here. Highlight would be chug all night. That being said, I’m more of an eagles hits fan. Good album though, just not my cup.

A few great tracks, however, a lot of filler. Spectacular vocal harmonies throughout and occasional great guitar playing.

Some great classics on this one but the rest of it was fairly forgettable Hits: Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling Misses: none very bad, just forgettable

This was an unexpected surprise. I knew a bunch of these songs already and some are classic rock classics but the ones I didn't we're fun country rock jams. That being said I realize I'm not a fan of Don Henley and the songs he helms I tended to skip.

Started off fast, slow songs in the middle that got a bit repetitive, finished strong. I think starting with Take it Easy, followed by songs like Nightingale and Train Leaves tells the listener that we are going on a journey through the desert, the barren. Tryin' brings us back to civilization as we re-enter the city imbued with a sense of accomplishment and motivation for what else lies ahead.

A fine debut soft rock album from one of the genre's most famous bands. Doesn't have the highs of some of their other work but its consistent through out. Not particularly my cup of tea when it comes to rock and I think that's mostly because of how insanely laid back the album can often feel. There is a lack of any real propulsion to the rock songs and I think thats a part of the reason why I can't truly connect to The Eagles like others. Still a perfectly fine album, better suited for BBQs and laying in a pool than anything else.

Chill album I wouldn't search out to listen to

I’m usually a big eagles fan, but minus the hits, this one was a dud

It's nice 3 stars

Reminded me a lot of chore Saturdays with pops. Driving rhythms, pure classic rock.

When I focused on a music itself I started to be quite dissapointed, the sound is fine, but that's just it.

Some nice songs interrupted by too many boring ones.

Easy listening, voor op de achtergrond. Maar geen hoogvlieger.

Welcome to the hot.... Ej...Waar is het hotel-liedje????

I think I'm still about 15 years too young to properly get into The Eagles

I actually found myself really enjoying the tracks that weren't released as singles. I miss Joe Walsh on this album, but it's still very solid.

Tof. Ken deze muziek goed. Goeie songs.

Easy 70s listening. Good memories. Can't be many 90s kids whose parents didn't love the Eagles... Am I right?

American road trip music. Easy listen.

Squeal piggy

Buena banda. Suenan muy bien.

Not so good. Not so bad.

I had no idea that the Eagles were so "western." Like of course Hotel California takes place in the desert, but it's a side that I wouldn't associate with them. I hadn't really put "Take It Easy" in anything but more of a pop-rock or just rock genre. But the rest of the album was so different. There is Banjo! The Eagles play THE BANJO. wtf. I never knew this. I guess the Eagles really are more than their hits.. Some tracks that really spoke to me as I sit in my bathtub at 1AM as I listened to this: 1. Train Leaves Here This Morning (soft and almost remorseful 2. Take the Devil (Badass.) 3. Early Bird (Reminds me of ZZTOP in a couple ways.)

Compendio de varias emociones, "Most of Us Are Sad" y "Earlybird" fueron mis favs. 7.5/10

Starts with the ultra-classic “Take It Easy” and then kinda coasts on that goodwill from there. 5/10

Start of an incredible career. I like to listen to it again and again.

I didn't realize they had a banjo player! I didn't mind my time with the eagles, I found it relaxing and laid back, not bad working music at all. Is this the first 70's album I can enjoy all the way through?!?!?

Meh. Never loved the Eagles. The quality of the recording is very nice, there's a lot of banjo in there that I never noticed before.

Eagles are classic but they don't move me

Generic dad rock

I've listened to this one before, and it is indeed iconic, just not my favorite. Witchy Woman is my highlight.

Meh as well

Some great songs and some meh.

Easy listen

Great album, although I've never been too fond of the Eagles. Highlights are the obvious: -Take It Easy -Peaceful Easy Feeling Nice to hear some of the other lesser known songs, which some are decent, but nothing to write home about. Still think the Eagles are lame.

I know it’s quite fashionable to hate the eagles, but I quite liked this.

borderline enjoyable a bit too country

I like some of the guitar and drum work. It's nice as background, but not sure what's supposed to be so special about this album. Loving Earlybird, though!

Take it easy, witchy woman, most of us are sad

Preface I love the Eagles a lot BUT.. Such a strong 3 track intro gets diluted into church cordial by the tepid harmony ballads that occupy the rest of the album. The banjo is only just acceptable on the end of Take It Easy but then they take the it way too far on the rest of the tracks. This would be a five star record if they maintainted the momentum of the first three, especially Witchy Woman.

Some good tracks overall not my vibe

It sure was The Eagles. Witchy Woman fucking slaps.

Very whatever.

Coupla classic songs and some weird ones to boot.

I think I've heard a different Eagles album so this one surprised me with some songs I hadn't heard.

Better than I remembered, but still not my favorite. Chug All Night and Tryin’ were my favorites.

It was alright

Liked it pretty well. Not too many standouts but a Folkier vibe Was nice.

Ok country rock

Interessante. Algumas músicas bem boas. Mas no geral nada me cativou profundamente.

Músicas de destaque: Take it Easy e Witchy Woman

I want to rate this higher. Ultimately i felt it was a 3.5, but can't rate that on here. The sound didn't blow my mind away, but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole album

"I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!" This isn't too bad though. It's that kinda easy listening rock that's so inoffensive it almost feels unfair disliking it. It'd definitely wear out its welcome after an hour, but at 35min it gets a pass. Some rockers, some plodders, no tracks either side of "alright" apart from Take it Easy and Tryin', which are good. It's hard to rate overall - it's exactly what it is, no ambition whatsoever but maybe you wouldn't want that anyway? 3.001/5.

Not bad actually.... considering it just isn’t really my thing!

I’ve no intention of dedicating much of my valuable time to this album beyond the 35 min run time I’ve already committed. Eagles and I are not a good mix. ‘Hotel California’ earned itself a less than coveted spot in my exclusive 1⭐️club (only 5 albums so far). This album annoyed me slightly less.

Too country for me

I hate the fucking eagles, man...

Ehhhh outside of Take it Easy, not a fan. Just not huge on the Eagles. Still just feels SO safe and like eating unsweetend vanilla ice cream: inoffensive, but why when there are much better options.

The Eagles are not an album band, but a heck of a greatest hits band. The hits are good! The deep cuts range from forgettable to embarrassing. Chug All Night suuuucks. I think a lot of problems people have with this band (aside from them being a band of assholes) is that they came out of the gate so pristine. There's absolutely no grit or rawness. It's almost too polished. But is that their fault? May not be to your taste but a weird reason to hate the band. But yeah, this album isn't great outside of the three singles.

A couple of strong tracks save this from a 1

I'm no music historian or whatever but surely Eagles were the progenitors of several decades of pop rock. That's fine and their harmonies are fun, but they've never been my thing. Highlights: "Take it Easy"

"We're gonna do little chugging. We're gonna do a little hugging." True lyrical genius right there! I quite enjoyed the two songs written by Jackson Browne (Take it Easy, Nightingale). The rest is an inconsistent bag of fairly generic country adjacent 70s rock with predictable lyrics, a unpleasantly squeaky bird and guitar solos that go on for too long. A mixed bag which might sound fitting coming out of a busted car speaker on some dusty road in the middle of nowhere. Harmonies are cool I guess. The vibe is generally good I suppose. Just sort of uninspiring. 2.5/5

Unfortunately (or not) I am truly a 70s divorced dad (re: slut) at heart and this genre will always do it for me. I wish most of this album was more like Witchy Woman because IMO the Eagles are best when they’re bluesy. Not my fav album of theirs, alas. Fav song: Witchy Woman

disregarding the Big Lebowski legacy, this music probably hits way too many millennials in the region of "my abusive dad's albums" to give it a lasting MUSICAL legacy. would rather listen to linda ronstadt

Classic rock is hit or miss for me, and this album is no different. Witchy Woman and Take the Devil are standouts, the rest are a little generic. Chug All Night is one of the most off-putting euphemisms for sex I've ever heard. fav song: Witchy Woman

⭐⭐ Otroligt mellanmjölk. Inte mycket som sticker ut förrutom Take it rasy som är bra. Det blir en 2a. Bäst är Take it easy,

Jesus, man, can you change the channel?

Most one hit wonder band ever. 1/5 album, 2/5 for production value

There is just 2-3 songs that’s actually good, with some kind of originality or something felling different. But, in general, it’s so generic, I listened to it and felt nothing, just link drinking regular warm water

I fuckin' hate the Eagles, man. Gotta agree with the Dude on this one. Not wholeheartedly, but I really didn't get much from this album. Take It Easy is a nice opener though. The bird sounds on Earlybird annoyed me a huge amount. Favourites: Take It Easy Peaceful Easy Feeling

I hate the fuckin Eagles man. At least this one has their good Yacht Rock songs.

The band has not figured out who they are yet, has a weird mix of easy listening rock and country. There are a couple songs where they hit their stride, Train Leaves Here This Morning was one that I wasn't familiar with but really liked. The rest is too disjointed and kind of boring

Shout out Big Lebowski

For the good of the order, could everyone read a few reviews before you submit yours? Everybody uses the same Big Lebowski quote in their Eagles reviews. I could never bring myself to hate the Eagles, even if I don’t love them. I think the formula makes sense and brings happiness to a lot of people who drift somewhere out there between country, rock, and easy listening. I sing along with the hits like everyone else. . My one knock on them is that they can seem somewhat insincere. I just don’t believe there was a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford, even if we all like the image. That’s my take on Eagles the band, what about Eagles the album? Honestly I don’t think it should be in the book. As much as I enjoyed the hits and the harmonies, the songwriting overall just wasn’t there yet on this debut album. There were moments I thought I might give it as high as a 4, but in ending with 2. Hotel California is probably sufficient — I’d like to see this dropped in favor of some young upstart with an album full of ideas, not just a few hits

I hate the fucking eagles, man!

sonically competent, musically inept

it's just kinda meh

Again meh

Tal como ha entrado, ha salido.

My second Eagles album on this list. Perfectly good for what it is, but so very unadventurous and vanilla. Not really for me.

My hot take is that the Eagles (the band) went from being overrated to overhated; then you listen to the Eagles (the album) and maybe it's justified.

Ppppprrrrrrrrrrtttt

Not really much for me on this one, I get Eagles are a big band, but not for me

I really wanted this album to be good. It has every ingredient to be. the harmonies are on point. That’s about it. This sounds AI generated LMAO the lyrics are so surface level. The music is so boring and slow, never deviates in tempo or feeling. Boring.

I didn’t think I knew enough about the eagles to have an opinion, now I guess I do and as expected it made almost no impression at all.

The prevalence of reviews that are just the quoting of a line from the Big Lebowski is emblematic of the mediocrity and lameness of the Eagles. That said, I appreciate that scene because I never cared for them, but felt it was just me. I can’t even put my finger on what I don’t like about them, but a lot of it probably hinges on the fact that they’re just egotistical jagoffs. Grudgingly, I have to admit that Take It Easy is pretty good, and captures that vibe of taking it easy pretty well. I’ll listen to that, but nothing else on this album.

It is a very mediocre mainstream rock album, made for the masses (that's why The Eagles were so popular). They play well but I find this music uninteresting and boring.

honestly, the eagles do nothing for me. they're background music in a drs office.

Take It Easy - 3/5 Witchy Woman - 2.5/5 Chug All Night - 2.5/5 Most of Us Are Sad - 2/5 Nightingale - 2.5/5 Train Leaves Here This Morning - 2/5 Take the Devil - 2.5/5 Earlybird - 2/5 Peaceful Easy Feeling - 2/5 Tryin' - 2.5/5 When I imagine what the most vanilla, conservative sounding album could be like, it would certainly be coming from the Eagles. They sound so stale and are really only propped up by the people who swear they are good. They are wrong. The Dude was right. I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man. Overall: 2/5 Favorites: Take It Easy

Something something The Big Lewbowski. It was fine. That’s it’s. Just fine. Nothing terribly offensively bad, but nothing home run worthy. Just fine.

Hotel California is way better

Well The Dude sure is onto something. A true voice of this generation. It's worse than Hotel California that's for sure. Not a 1 star album though. I have heard wayyyy worse stuff and I'm like barely 100 albums in. It just suffers from being boring and forgettable. The songs aren't outright bad, but as an album it feels a bit like torture. It doesn't help that i absolutely despise folk and country and any inbetweens. There's nothing really that makes this album interesting to me. I don't find the need to listen to any of the songs ever again, but it's not like I hated every single second of this. It's just not for me. I'll never get this type of music, maybe if I were American I would'he appreciated it way more, but in the words of K*nye W*st "I guess we'll never know".

Man, is this the lamest thing on earth? No passion, no fun, no inventiveness. It is not horrible, I could listen to it all day and feel nothing, just so fucking bland and sounding like a thousand other things, it is absolutely not noteworthy.

Meh. 70s rock isnt my fave, and this album doesn't even have any of their classics

Band writes one good song, somehow gets two entries on the 1001 list, and the good song isn't on this one. Tedious, cookie-cutter soft rock which is doubly unforgivable coming, as it does, from a time when tons of exciting stuff was happening in music, all of which seems to have passed the Eagles by. Train Leaves Here This Morning, in particular, is profoundly terrible.

"Baby we could hug, there's so much of you I think we could chug all night"

Borrrrrring

STANDOUTS: Take It Easy, Nightingale, Peaceful Easy Feeling Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling are pretty good, but outside of that, it kinda blows. To quote The Dude, "I've had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles man." 5/10

I second Jim's thoughts . Obviously my idea that I quite like The Eagles is not based on this album Think I've been influenced by Hotel California .

Boring middle of the road easy listening.

Worlds most overrated band

Det begynner faktisk helt OK men blir fort jæææævli nedtur, ass. Most of Us Are Sad er til å begynne å grine av -- men ikke fordi den treffer følelsene de sikter på. Det går litt opp igjen etter sidebytte. Spesielt Earlybird selger konseptet cuntry rock -- banjoen løfter tungt!

Standing on the corner jameis Winston Tampa Florida. Two

1.5 stars When the best songs on an album are songs you already knew you didn’t care about, you can die without listening.

It's mostly boringly produced and uninterestingly performed. Tepid and soulless, like Steely Dan or Fleetwood Mac but for people who don't season their food. At least it's not as irritating as Hotel California, so it gets a slight pass.

"I hate the fkn Eagles man." I feel it's become somewhat of a meme to hate on the Eagles. I like to think I was hatin' on 'em long before it became fashionable. Not really tho. Not *hating*. More like "annoyed by." I mean, they're fine. That greatest hits album is surely one of the better greatest hits albums in the history of greatest hits albums, supposedly. Truth be told, I checked it out from the public library in 1994 and quite enjoyed it for an entire week. I've had little use for them since. & this ain't even the greatest hits. Banjo was way too low in the mix. Except on Earlybird, which I dug. 2stars

"I like Witchy Woman... You know, Witchy Woman. Oh, witchay woman" - Elaine Benes

Like a lightweight CSNY. Beautiful quality recording, lovely harmonies, but all the songs are totally middling. Not good, not bad, just not interesting.

Birung

Something about this feels slick and ersatz for ”country rock.” Doesn’t really convey a sense of authorial perspective, just generic vibes. It’s sort of like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young but with maybe 20% of the songwriting talent.

Partially known. Meh.

I liked this album but didn’t think any special of it. Sorry.

I'm usually pretty good about separating the art from the artist, but I found myself so annoyed listening to this album....

Honestly not that special to me, many songs kinda generic soft rock stuff, still good though. Favorite Song: -Witchy Woman

207/1089 a pretty mellow, soft rocky album. I liked it enough while i was listening but it didn’t really grab me. fave: Train Leaves Here This Morning 45/100

2/5. This is easy listening, but it's honestly not all that special. It is interesting to know that this album spawned several well-performing songs beyond the famous "Take It Easy." After listening through, I can see why that song is the sole survivor: a lot of the album is subdued (relatively speaking; "Take It Easy" isn't exactly raucous, so to go mellower is quite a step to take). It kinda reminds me of an evolved cowboy pop: twangy guitar are strumming and meting out sharp lead accompaniment, simple melodies augmented with other vocalists at the right moments. Everything is competent, but so much of it is forgettable. I'm more familiar with later albums and know that the band put out some downright legendary songs. A lot of the skill and care for their craft is still present here in their debut, but it apparently took a while for their true talent to show. Not a bad album, but I won't likely return to it in the future.

Take It Easy was good and a classic I've heard plenty of times. The rest was alright, but got a bit boring

Take it easy was an instruction for the band for at least the majority of this album. It was nice but safe and inoffensive for the most part. Picked up a bit at the end. High 2/low 3

There must be few pleasures in life simpler than listening to Eagles’s Take It Easy, it is smooth and carefree, radio ready vintage pop rock that is impossible to take issue with. The rest of the album has many of the same properties, but with less urgent songwriting it glides by without as much notice, though I did like the cheeky and erratic, banjo-lined Earlybird. I had a similar experience with Hotel California, so I wonder if they are more of a singles band?

Its a short way from "best-selling American artist" to "I hate the fucking Eagles, man". To be honest I'm not sure where I land. For everything they are popular for (the harmonies, the FM radio friendly sound) they're clearly top of the heap, but i just don't think there's much substance underneath. Looking at their contemporaries (CSNY, Fleetwood Mac, even Grateful Dead) the difference for me is depth. Those bands had some gravity to what they were writing about, something progressive instrumentally or even just a bit of drama. The Eagles have none of that - but just like Coldplay 30 years later, noone in my office is going to complain if it's on in the background. Its just fine.

I had a rough night, and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles man.

mouais

Favorite Tracks: Rating: 2.0 I listened to the 2013 Remaster version on Spotify. Suspicion that I don't care for the Eagles confirmed. It's cheesy, it's boring, it's choring. At least now I can say I gave it a chance...this ain't for me. Hopefully a bunch of Eagles songs don't start showing up in my Spotify algorithm.

Is this what WASPs listen to? It's fine, I guess, and I found myself tapping my feet at points, but the bulk of it is pointless.

2 good songs, everything else sucks

the big lebowski did to the eagles what sideways did to merlot. can't get the dude out of my head when this band comes on.

Liked this a lot less than I thought I would.

Couple of their classics, but album a bit lightweight for me overall.

Not really a fan of this. Probably better than I'd expected but meh

it's so hard not to listen to the eagles and think about their MAGA fanbase

This album was just really boring. The harmonies were pretty good though.

Ugh. Too country for my tastes. All Eagles criticism is valid.

No….

Achei fraco. Mas tem algumas coisas interessantes.

Before: All right, the Eagles! My Dad had this album so I used to listen to it a good bit when visiting in the summer. He didn't have many albums so I didn't have much to choose from. However, he did have all of the Eagles first five albums. I dare say, for better or worse, that has probably influenced my current musical tastes a good bit. Maybe it makes me tolerant of blandness if the music is it at least pleasant to listen to? Anyways, I do know I liked the Eagles some back then and should like them at least a little this time around. Checking my favorites of 1972 list, I find "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" on there but not "Witchy Woman". Maybe I'll change my mind this time around and add it to my 1972 list? During: OK, so I added "Witchy Woman" to my 1972 list, not sure it will stay there. The next five tracks are pretty boring. The last 30 seconds of "Take the Devil" are interesting, it would have been great if they had developed that a little more. "Peaceful Easy Feeling" is awesome. I still love this song after 50+ years. I currently have it ranked 32 and "Take It Easy" ranked 24 out of 65 for 1972. I actually think I like "Peaceful..." more than "Take It...", this time around, so decide to switch them. That puts "Take It..." one slot ahead of Van Morrison's "Saint Dominic's Preview" and we can't have that. So, I move "Take It..." down one, below "Saint...". After: All in all, I don't like the album as a whole very much but don't dislike it that much either. Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" are enough to surely bump it up a little. I'm on the fence still about "Witchy Woman". I'm thinking of rating the album as 3. I'm in the early stage of this 1001 thing (this is #18) and I haven't clearly defined my ranking categories yet but this album is surely a 2 or 3 in my book. It's a two per my ranking system that put together yesterday.

Eagles on tuttu lähinnä nimeltä ja Hotel California hitistä. Tällä esikoislevyllä Ei ollut hittejä, eikä oikein jäänyt mitään kuuntelusta mieleen...

easily the worst of the entire Laurel Canyon scene and overall I would say one of the worst bands of all time. the only redeeming thing about them is that Jackson Browne was writing songs for them and they were according to my sources (David McGowan) one of the least CIA affiliated bands in the canyon

For some reason I find the Eagles super boring. There are good songs here and I like other stuff from the era that is very similar but they just don't do it for me.

Kinda annoying song writing and not particularly musically interesting.

It's all power chords, guitar tone is anemic. The "chugging" song is weird, were they forbidden to swear?

If I never hear Take It Easy ever again, that would be okay.

we’re gonna chug all night??????????

Actually really enjoyed the first song! But Earlybird was awful and my dog thought so as well.

Started off strong ngl

Tight Eagles sound, with some excellent guitar solos. I've a soft spot for that sound, as 'Hotel California' was the perfect soundtrack to many a late night drive on a road trip in the middle of the deserts, gold mining ghost towns, mountainsides, and farmland here in California--waiting for that mysterious no-place where one can never leave to emerge along the road. That said, couldn't find any songs that hit as deeply.

Easy listening

Kinda boring I can’t lie. I wanted to like it but didn’t

Besides Witchy Woman, I just find this album forgettable and too laid back.

Whatever. Couple hits. Glenn Frey sounded ridiculous.

4/10 - This album sounds like wood paneled basements, tucked in T-Shirts, light wash jeans, and songs people try and play around a campfire.

Boring dad rock. 4/10

När det stundtals lutar åt västkustcountry i "Take it easy", "Most of us are sad", "Peaceful easy feeling" och inte minst Gene Clark-pennade "Train leaves here this morning" är det inte så dumt alls. Hyfsad topphöjd men genomusel bottennivå. Det blir en tvåa i de nedre regionerna

Inledande Take it easy med sitt akustiska gitarrdriv och effektiva stämmor är utmärkt. Näst sista spåret Peaceful easy feeling har liknande kvaliteter. Men i övrigt inget värt att nämna.

Det börjar bra med inledande Take it easy.

Hårdrocksambitioner i Take the Devil och Tryin'. Boogie woogie i Chug all night. Hippieflosklerna i Earlybird skivans behållning? Mycket svag tvåa.

Album 5 Top 3 favorites off the album: Train Leaves Here This Morning, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Nightingale Good variety in sound. I can appreciate an album that flows well. Unfortunately, I'm just not that into country rock of this flavor. Things I will give credit: 1. They can do a solid guitar solo. 2. I like the banjo, and there was an acceptable amount of banjo in Earlybird. 3. There are delicious vocal harmonies which make for fun musician listening. Lyrics for this one sit in the middle for me. Some songs hit, others don't. Maybe I'm just a hater. Funnily enough, my mom was just listening to The Eagles in the kitchen. One of my middle school friends loved them. I never got into them. Can't say this album has changed my mind, but I enjoyed Train Leaves Here This Morning enough that this was a decent experience. Probably won't come back to this one, though.

I'm just not an Eagles fan. Favorite songs: Take It Easy

I'm just not an Eagles guy.

Eagles were/are one of the biggest American bands of all time, with egos to match, so this hardly needs any takes from me. But I did not enjoy this. The hits are fine (except "Peaceful Easy Feeling," blech), but "Chug All Night" and "Most of Us Are Sad" are godawful, and the rest of it is only nominally better. Hard pass.

Highlights: Take It Easy In a nutshell: it's a start? There is a tonne of filler. Fantastic opening track. Train Leaves Here This Morning has a similar structure to (and reminds me of) Peaceful Easy Feeling. The harmonies are amazing. Production is top notch (courtesy of Olympic in London). It's good that the band rotates with lead vocal duties early on. For a debut album, it's okay. Just okay. Side note: props to Jackson Browne for gifting Take It Easy to his friend, neighbour and co-writer, Glenn Frey. Browne didn't have time to finish the song for his own album. Frey encouraged Browne to record it, even offering to help. He declined. After days of Frey bugging him, Browne was fed up and gave the song to Frey. Browne said in 2012 "...he finished it in spectacular fashion. And, what's more, arranged it in a way that was far superior to what I had written." Overall: 3/10

Solid though nothing special

Just the most basic, uninspired, run-of-the-mill country rock album I've heard. Everything: the vocals, the guitars, the banjo in the background, even the name of the band—so cliché and uninteresting. Not the worst thing I've heard, of course, but this album is so devoid of life and ideas it's not very fun to listen to. 5/10

Mycket snygg ljudbild!

Lent men tyvärr ganska lättglömt.

I tried listening to it but it's just not my style.

I wouldn’t have thought I was an Eagles fan, but this is basically a smoother Crosby Still Nash Young album. Loved the two openers, but the middle fell off. I draw the line at birdsong and banjo. Great song to finish (or at least better than the proceeding tracks). 2/5 for the bangers.

Outdated country rock that may appeal to American dads (or truckers) born in the 60s and 70s, but doesn’t speak to me on any level. I'm sure they're good at what they do, but what they do just doesn’t really interest me. The blues-rock tracks like Chug All Night are kind of fun, but all the country parts bore me, and soft ballads like Most of us Are Sad are awful. I didn’t hate it, but it's mostly because it’s too inoffensive and unoriginal to bring out any particular emotion. Just easy-listening background music that I won't remember by tomorrow. 3/10

At times difficult to listen to just because I dont' like the genre, I felt something for Witchy woman, Early birds and even the riffs in Tryin'. Good musicians too.

Slick, soupy pop-rock clearly shaped for an American audience. There are a few decent rock tracks, a bit cliche like Chug All Night and Take the Devil. Not as bad as I expected. But the choirs, the banjo, the themes… since I don’t drive much in the US recently, I don’t see myself putting this back on my turntable anytime soon.

I had a rough night, and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man!

alright

Inoffensive

Eagles, huh? I've heard the name before, but what subgenre of rock they belong to is anyone's guess. I'm locking in progressive rock. It was the decade for it, and the bandname makes me feel like they belong to a more artistic and slightly less commercial sound. Huh. This doesn't seem to belong to any specific genre beyond a general rock qualifier. I wasn't expecting the country influence, either. Anyway, it's decent as something to chill out to, though I wasn't really invested in the music beyond that. Seems like that's been my fate for most of the albums I've rolled lately. Am I becoming over-encumbered by a year's-worth of daily albums? The vocals are decent - very cool and appropriate for the genre. There's a decent bit of variety, too, though I never felt like the album was moving beyond its comfort zone. "Take It Easy" is a pleasing opener. Good vocals during the chorus, and I like the kick that the hammering acoustic guitar adds to the song. "Chug All Night" is vaguely familiar, though I can't pin whether I've heard it before or if it borrows a lot from the rock and roll playbook. Anyways, it's decent. Just more of the same. Book time. Some successful singles. Charted well. A testament to where the band would go. Not sold yet - over to Wikipedia I go. Helped popularise country rock. Solid critic backing. Yeah, I guess I can let this one through. I get the impression that Eagles are a big deal. I cosign this inclusion.

So I looked it up and Greatest Hits is the Eagles best selling album. That makes sense cause their album tracks are pretty meh. I also didn’t really like the hits off this album but I get why they were popular.

Easy listening

Just rock enough to make country fans dislike it. Just country enough to make rock fans dislike it. Just Eagles enough to make me dislike it. This is waiting room music. Nobody likes that.

I don't care for the Eagles, this album did not change my mind. Take it Easy is an okay song, the rest of the album is not good. More country than rock, not my thing.

If the rest of the material was on par with the first two tracks, maybe (MAYBE) I'd have a different take on this band. But it's not. They do sing well.

I went into this with an open mind. I don't have strong feelings about these guys, and I was kind of hoping their first album would be a little more authentic or innocent or something. Nah. It mostly sucks. I don't hate Take it Easy or Peaceful Easy Feeling, but that's faint praise. The rest of it really rubbed me the wrong way. Also that album cover blows.

Andre's disdain for the Eagles has definitely rubbed off on me. But putting that aside for a moment, it's just so bland.

The aural equivalent of chugging a litre of beige paint. I can't even work up the energy to hate these dudes *fart noises*

p271. 1972. 2.5 stars. Perfectly acceptable but bland 70s US West Coast country/rock. They got better once Joe Walsh joined the band. Rounded down to a 2 as I am unlikely to listen to this again.

Some good tunes, but in general shleppy country rock.

not my cup of tea!

If The Eagles were a colour they'd be a pale grey.

Boring

Yeah, I mean, it's fine but it's not great

Upbeat country - a little honky tonk heavy for me.

Just really dull

When the Coen brothers were making The Big Lebowski, they reached out to the musical genius – who has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Willie Dixon – to help them curate a suitable music taste for The Dude. It was Burnett’s suggestion that he should hate The Eagles. Why not? Burnett f–king hated them, too, man. He even went as far as to tell Rolling Stone that they contributed to killing the counterculture movement: “[The Eagles] sort of single-handedly destroyed that whole scene that was brewing back then.” So, how did they kill the scene, and how was that even relevant for a film set in the 1990s? Well, as it happens, a few years prior to the release of the movie, the Eagles hit the headlines as the first rock band to charge over $100 for tickets. Seeing as though The Dude hailed from a place of hippie idealism, parcelling simplified peace and love with a price tag that lofty was an awful duality to straddle as a band. The irony of a platitude like ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling’ – a song that strips the counterculture movement of any of its pointed intent and merely serves it up as a lukewarm laidback lark with an incense addiction – was bound to get on his nerves almost because it’s simply pleasant cab ride music. Burnett saw this as diluting the era down to its most commercial elements and serving it up for cash. He even used his hatred of the band to leverage song rights deals for the Coen brothers film later down the line. He wanted to use Townes Van Zandt’s cover of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Dead Flowers’ to close the movie, but he encountered contractual issues as their manager, Allen Klein was asking for a budget-busting $150,000. But Burnett convinced him to watch the first cut of the film, and he recalls: “It got to the part where the Dude says, ‘I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man!’ Klein stands up and says, ‘That’s it, you can have the song!’ That was beautiful.”

Has a few really popular songs, but I was never a fan of the country rock genre. Seems way over rated.

No thank you

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I hate the fuckin’ Eagles (man), but they’re a hard band to love. Take It Easy aside, there’s something charmless about this album.

I've never listened to this album (24). It's the Eagles.

The epitome of dad rock, as such, so so

Take it Easy - good song! The rest is solid country rock. The Eagles will only get more “yacht rock cocaine” from here, so I guess that means this is my favourite Eagles album.

Lots of this is not very good--derivative country rock swiped from someone like Graham Parsons with numerous less than memorable songs--and I know it's cool to hate the Eagles. But I give one star for hearing these songs on the sweaty fake leather knocking around town in the 70s summers of my mom's beat up Chevy Malibu station wagon. And another star for the Eagles greatest hits tape that seemed always to be stuck in the tape player of my girlfriend's indestructible Honda in the late 80s.

The warm production and the smooth singing and playing allow this album to have a comfy sound which is the only redeemable quality of it. Very boring and very bland. The first songs might be decent, but after that, it becomes stale very quickly, except that the song 'Earlybird' is kind of interesting thanks to its different chord progression and use of banjo. Also, today I have to share an hotel room with my parents. My father snores as loud as a lawnmower, so I had a rough night and I hate the Eagles.

Yeah the Eagles still suck

I’d give this 2.5 if I could. It’s decent but not to my taste.

Props for being part of the cutting edge of country rock, but I do hate the f'ing Eagles.

“I’ve had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles, man!” – The Big Lebowski Yeah, I get the hate. The Eagles have always felt like the corporatocracy of rock. Solid musicians, sure, but they manufactured themselves into a polished product rather than a genuine movement. They built on the fading hippie energy of the ’60s, then cashed in big. They were the first band to break the $100 ticket barrier, making them a symbol of music-as-commerce. As T-Bone Burnett put it: “[The Eagles] sort of single-handedly destroyed that whole scene that was brewing back then.”

This wasn’t an awful debut. But….I hate the fucking Eagles, man!!

I don’t mind Take it Easy but the rest of this is just bland and soooo boring.

Well that was rubbish. Very generic MAGA country twang!

Not my cup of tea. Rather boring.

Some absolutely iconic gems in there among a lot of very mediocre songs. A greatest hits album would be a better option, if the Eagles have enough good stuff to fill a greatest hits album.

A bit generic tbh. They're feel somewhat like being undermined by their own success. Feels quite bland in the context of what's come since, but maybe they influenced later artists idk. No real standout tracks for me, not very interesting sonically.

Hits are fine, album tracks are just meh.

I don't mind a bit of 70s Eagles. Debut is okay, but certainly not peak.

Eagles, better now than back when this came out. Three hits on their debut isn’t a bad start, but the others songs are weak. L = (2.3*s) J = (2.2*s) They improve as they age.

A three-fer album for the Eagles debut. The tracks that didn't chart are skips. The record is a little weak but the Eagles did make country rock more palatable so give them credit for that. They improve from here. The Eagles Eagles gets 2.3 stars.

Not sure what it is about Eagles, but I simultaneously can enjoy them but also be a little annoyed by them. This album is no exception. On paper it's a pretty solid debut. It's got a couple of what are considered some of Eagles longtime hits, but for some reason outside of Witchy Woman these songs don't really resonate with me. I can fully understand why this has staying power as an easy listening debut rock album but for some reason it was a pretty hollow listen for me this time through. I guess I never paid attention to how often they switch vocalists which is an effect I can appreciate but I'll take Henley if I had to stick with one. I imagine Eagles will show up again and get a better review from me down the line. 2.32 stars

There must be some trauma I have with Eagles because something about them fills me with a boiling rage. Consciously I know they’re a totally harmless lil band. Subconsciously I wish I every Eagle went extinct.

never been an eagles guy. i do love southern rock, but this doesn’t do anything for me.

I like Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling is ok. The rest was either bad or generic. I think the Eagles get a bad wrap most of the time but I can’t really defend this album outside of those two songs.

It’s easy listening that’s for sure. It is quite boring and definitely feels stuck in the 70’s. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it, but if it was playing somewhere I wouldn’t ask to turn it off.

muy country no me ha gustado

The Eagles’ debut is The Band for people who iron their jeans. Smooth, safe, and dying to be rustic.

Hmmmm. After listening to this album, I better understand why 'Hotel California' was so highly praised. This album is... several notches below. "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Take It Easy", the best two songs on the album, were entirely written or co-written by non-members of the band (Jackson Browne being the co-writer of the latter) and none of the songs written by the Eagles really stack up. The most well-known is "Witchy Woman", which is a fine song, but in my opinion not really anything special. The remaining tracks range from forgettable to memorably kinda bad. "Chug All Night" is especially cringey, and Randy Meisner's lead vocals on "Take the Devil" and "Tryin'" are really unfortunate. This just feels like a really amateurish effort and I don't think the Eagles had really hit their stride yet with this album. Sowwy.

2+ Stars (6/15)

They have 2 albums on the list. Hotel California, which is so perfect, it's boring and this album. This one rocks more. It's not bad, but it sounds outdated. Favorite song: earlybird

Obviously Take It Easy is the best song on the album sure, BUT, Witchy Woman had a genuine good chorus I can't even lie. Chug All Night however, it had me banging my head slightly. The album isn't entirely offensive to the ear, its just kind of meh. It's something you'd listen to once on the CD and then put it back inside the case for collection because god forbid someone make you listen to it again. Take The Devil was my favorite song on the entire album only because it was something that sounded at least SOMEWHAT different compared to the rest of the album. It's only similar song is Train Leaves Here This Morning and Most of Us Are Sad, and the vocals are actually really good and I actually like it! It seems like they actually tried with this song. Earlybird had a unique start but just kinda stops being unique once you realize it's an Eagles song. Peaceful Easy Feeling just sounds like TLHTM. Tryin just seems like they wanted to have more than 9 songs on the album, theres nothing special about this song at all except for maybe its solo at 1:14. Overall the album seems lazy, not put together, and VERY repetitious. 3.2/10

Take it Easy is the best of a bad lot. Total snooze fest zzzzz!

Its not 100% dire

Disappointing album. The only stand-out track is "Take It Easy", the rest of the album is plain boring.

Pleasant!

Much like the ‘Hotel California’ album I got some time ago on this project - I just do not see the “thing” that causes the Eagles to be so highly regarded; particularly in the decade they were releasing music in. I’ll repeat what I said before: the 70’s were absolutely stacked with such untouchable talent. So these kind of artists standing such tests of time really does boggle my mind. It’s safe. It’s not particularly adventurous in any way (even if this album supposedly popularised the countey-rock sound). It’s by-the-numbers radio rock if I’ve ever heard by-the-numbers radio rock. It’s not an offensive album by any means. Sure, stick it on for background music or something. You won’t find me complaining. It’s just not something I won’t seek out for my 70’s classic rock fix. 2/5

What soulless drivel, no wonder The Dude fucking hated The Eagles.

I'm not The Dude. I don't fuckin' hate the Eagles man. I don't fuckin' love them either. Songs range from some pretty sweet country rock to what would be bog standard 70's rock but lacking any wit or bite. It's like eggshell white paint. It's there and it does its job, but you'll never really love it. Best Tracks: Take It Easy; Witchy Woman; Peaceful Easy Feeling

Not really my cup of tea, i'm sure it was good in its day but feels dated imo

The Eagles are such saccharine, Americana nonsense

Leaves very little of an impression. Don Henley only gets to sing like one song
