Reviews (page 7 of 10)

I took some time to look up Eagles since they weren't a group I was as familiar with. This is a really great album, but at the same time it feels tame compared to the 50 years of rock that came after it. There are plenty of times where this album sounds like cowboy campfire songs that were expanded into rock songs. I do like that this type of rock has more of a country and western influence, and the vocal harmonies are spectacular. It's a shame that rich vocal harmonies like this fell out of fashion. I don't know that I will come back to this album, but I will think about how it influenced rock for years to come.

Eagles

Every hit song from this I've heard too many times. Every other song is pretty forgettable.

another classic record ive never heard. the hits here are good. i love the down home feel and think this is overall really good record.

enjoyed the percy thrower break

Okay, I realize I've not listened to their debut album, or more likely I did at least once before but don't remember it. Outside of the three tracks that made the greatest hits album (Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful Easy Feeling), the others are so lackluster. Those three tracks, however, are amazing and were destined to be classics from the moment this album was released. I'm just surprised at how little I like any of the others. This is an album only worth noting for "first appearances" but not one that I'd want to keep in my playlist.

Very good

01) Take It Easy - 10,0 02) Witchy Woman - 9,0 03) Chug All Night - 6,5 04) Most of Us Are Sad - 7,5 05) Nightingale - 7,0 06) Train Leaves Here This Morning - 7,5 07) Take the Devil - 7,0 08) Earlybird - 7,0 09) Peaceful Easy Feeling - 7,0 10) Tryin - 6,5 TOTAL: 7,50 (75/100) Current ranking: 119/225 Typical American country rock. I liked two songs, the rest were forgettable.

My ‘meh’ rating changes between 2 and 3 but I guess this falls on the more enjoyable side of meh.

It’s ok

Mostly decent with a few highs

Take it Easy, what an opening song. The rest of the album kinda falls and picks itself up at times, but for being the very first Eagles album it's very good.

It feels like this album doesn't manage to get into the gear it should do, it builds to nothing, ultimately very boring.

Never been a big fan, but this wasn't terrible.

Average

More country than I expected, I must say, even with the country-rock label of this thing. Super chill and easy listen which is fine, but a few songs just float by without making any impact, which isn't great for only a 10 song album. 5/10

Mellow vibes from California, man (with some surprising sting at points). Highlights: "Take It Easy" (lead-off track that serves as the band's mission statement), "Witchy Woman" (some nice harmonies on the chorus and post-guitar solo, a couple of tasty and heavy--as far as this band goes--guitar solos), "Nightingale" (mid-tempo country-tinged rocker), "Peaceful Easy Feeling" Notable: "Earlybird" (well, my cat enjoyed the bird sounds on this one lol)

Some songs good and some not so good. Overall a decent listen.

The Eagles are just a quintessential "greatest hits" group, and they can fill two albums. But they miss a lot, and I'm pretty sure I can live without "Chug All Day" and its kind.

Three classic songs, but the rest of the album was somewhat disappointing

Some great classic rock here, but nothing that's likely to get me returning to this too regularly. Great musicianship, but the song writing just isn't strong enough for me.

We all know the hits, everything else sucks. Sloppy bar band at best.

Probably the definition of 3* in how I'm grading. Fun enough but didn't compel me to listen again. Take It Easy is a good song, the rest is... fine

It's a lovely album, it's the Eagles, it's easy and has some great songs but ultimately it's a bit forgettable.

This album reminded me a lot of high school. That when I first listened to them after one of there cycles of popularity. It's okay. Some good songs, but a little uneven.

Fun fresh and clean Cool animal sounds

So smooth it slips in one ear and out of the other.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected to. The harmonies are on point and the banjo hits right. It’s almost a 4 for me. Points deducted because… they’re the eagles? I don’t know. Something about their sound doesn’t sit right with me and it’s probably due to the heavy rotation they have gotten on classic rock stations throughout my life.

None of the deep cuts did much for me, but the 3 hits are pretty good

it was fine nothing too special 3.2/5

Fine but unremarkable

Enjoyable album by a band that I have ignored for years

Good candidate for a 3.5 since i don't quite "love" it but feels like it should stand a bit above the glut of 3s. Enjoyable easy-listening country-rock blend that is recognizable, but I understand the critique that it can be a bit boring. Ironic timing to get a descendant of the "California sound" originated by the Beach Boys the day after a Dennis Wilson album

Surprisingly mid country-rock for such a big band.

Since almost every album by the Eagles that we are exposed to in life seems like a Greatest Hits album it was kind of nice to listen to some of their “deep cuts.“. Can’t say I loved them, but it was nice to hear.

Tempted to give it 4*, just for Take It Easy, but I'm going to go with 3.5*.

It’s decent. Would be nice on a drive on a sunny day.

This is fine, but I can see why the top 7 reviews are all saying or referencing the quote from The Big Lebowski. It’s really not remarkable, but they somehow became one of the biggest bands of the 70’s. ‘Take It Easy’ is the best songs here, end of review.

Without looking, I assume the top review of this album is a "Big Lebowski" reference. Anyway. I like the Eagles, typically. At least, I enjoyed their greatest hits record. This one? There's less memorable stuff on it. They have the vocal harmonies of the Beach Boys, or maybe a more apt comparison is CSNY. They seem more like a b-squad of that group on here. Favorite tracks: "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman"

Great first track and then just the rest is pretty generic rock from that era.

A summer belter from the eagles

Take it easy - Good, catchy. Great start to the album. Campfire type of vibe. 7/10. Witchy Woman - Ehh. A lot more slow in pace. Doesnt have much replay value to me. 4/10. Chug all night - Straight out of a 90s country club dance floor. Average, 5/10. Most of us are sad - Almost a frank ocean type of a beat. A country frank, i can imagine franky spitting on this beat. 8/10 Nightingale - Predictable but good. Almost a cut scene type of song/montage in a happy movie. Really improves halfway through the song. 8/10 Train Leaves here this morning - Very good. Lulu text me back haha. You definitely need to be going through something to appreciete this. Feel like this is a song thatll grow on you. 6/10. Take the Devil - Not very lyrical, different to the other songs. Emphasise on the music at the end. 5/10. Nothing special Earlybird - Unmemorable. 5/10 Peaceful easy feeling - Lyrically very good. But there are parts on the song where im like "Do this and itll sound better". 6/10 Tryin - 5/10. Average rock song. Unmemorable. Average rating of 5.9/10. I think this is being a little generous. If eagles were to pioneer rock/country i think this album wouldve been rated higher at the time, but now its just kinda like "Yeah, typical rock/country album". This may be an album i need a second listen off to really like.

Normal eagles album. The vibe of the album was blues rock but it felt like country. For easy listening.

Meh that was my dad's dad Rock

It was too country for me, and I've heard the songs too many times.

I used to like the Eagles a lot more. I had their two Greatest Hits Vol. I & II. But... the band can't decide what they ARE. Country or rock. And this album has too many songs that are so stuck firmly in country, it just... irks me. Definitely "Hotel California" should be on the list, but not sure this album should. The non-hit songs are kinda middling to me. And "Witchy Woman" was never a song I particularly cared for. Top tracks: "Take It Easy," "Peaceful, Easy Feeling"

The hits are great (especially Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling) but the rest of the album is a bit meh. And some of the lyrics? "I believe we can chug all night, I believe we can hug all night" (from, ugh, Chug All Night) - terrible. These guys charted a new course for rock and I understand it started with this album. But that breezy, harmonized country rock sound is far from perfected here and is sorely lacking on most of the non-hits. Meisner's songs were the best of the non-hits - Take the Devil a bit bluesy and Tryin a bit more hard rocking. They got way better as they continued to work at their craft.

The two well-known songs "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" are taking you on an endless highway. But the rest of this album sounds just ok and maybe a bit aged to me.

Some easy listeners but again, not enough well-known, popular tracks for me. Not sure it’s a ground-breaking, must listen to album.

Its okay

Sounded exactly i expected save for Earlybird

It kicked off with “Take it Easy” and I thought this album would be a solid 3.4. But other than the radio hits, I didn’t like it. In fact I actively disliked “Most of us are Sad” (what sadsack BS is that?), Earlybird (that bird sound about made me insane), and “Train Leaves Here” (just a frumpy, lame song). The rest were ok. People loved this album then and still love it now, so maybe I was just in a mood. I did appreciate the harmonies. 2.9

Radio hits are classics, but the rest is a little unfocused - like 3 different sounds trying to battle for supremacy. I suppose this isn't the lineup I'm familiar with though. In a year when great music was coming out, this is good but middle of the road. 3.5

In a vacuum, the edgier stuff is pretty good. The Dude was absolutely right about the rest of it.

Great listening. Super opening with Take It Easy that really sets up the rest of the album.

First two songs were its best and the rest was just good, nothing special. It was enjoyable, but I'm disappointed by the lack of eagles.

A pleasant listen but not an album I’d revisit often

Pleasantly surprised , nice and lay back songs

Man, this is so vanilla. There isn't one second of this album that isn't polished smooth. It's fine, I guess. I like the hits the best, and the rest of it is in one ear and out the other. There's really nothing memorable about the vast majority of this.

what an easy album to listen to! eagles' self-titled album showed how they honed in on that folk-y, country rock sound right from the beginning. i had no real complaints. but i will say the middle of the album was easily forgettable. it sort of became muddled and the songs weren't distinct anymore, but they did recover by the album's end with "peaceful easy feeling". still, it wasn't a bad listen at all. you could easily argue that the eagles improved past their debut album, but this album gave them such a foundation and inspired many others.

I can't believe the perfect tracks that are "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman" came from the Eagles' first album. They are yet another example of a band who really had their musical niche down from the beginning. That said, the album does slump a bit in the middle and just kind of lulls and blurs into a general Eagles sound. It's still pleasant listening, but just not very standout. The album recovers in the end with another very strong Eagles song, "Peaceful Easy Feeling". Overall, this is a consistent but okay album, peppered in with a few examples of the songs that truly define what the Eagles excelled at.

Peaceful easy listening. Nothing too stand-out though.

The hits are timeless. The rest…. Not so much.

The Eagles. Another album I'm surprised I haven't listened to all the way through. Unfortunately, aside from the over-worn singles (still great songs) most of the tracks are pretty humdrum. 'Chug all night' is just terrible. 'Train leaves here in the morning' and 'Most of us are sad' are some nice easy listening standouts from the remainder. Great album for the time but not much to make me want to go back at this stage.

3.5 some absolute bangers

Favorite track: witchy woman

I think I'd give this album a 3.5 if I could... I did enjoy listening to it but I probably wouldn't seek it out to listen to again.

Overrated by some people perhaps, but probably a bit more over-hated by others Between 3 and 3.5

-I’ve never thought about how beautiful the harmonies are -that has got to be a telecaster b bender in take it easy -idk if I’ve ever noticed the banjo. I’d also put money on there being a 12 string in there -they seemed like confused about what genre they should be in? -the album goes hard for a debut

Hot start and finish to this album- the middle was a bit meh. This really is the pinnacle of dad rock. I don't know if the Eagles really do anything spectacular or innovative other than being one of the most commercially successful bands of all time - I've sold 0 albums so who am I to say that this isn't impressive. I suppose popularizing country rock isn't to be understated. At the time, most people didn't know what the album sounded like other than the singles before they bought it and true to form the singles were awesome on this one but everything else was pretty average.

I remember having an Eagles album back in the day. They're alright. There was 3 or 4 songs. I don't know that I would put them on by choice though. 3 stars.

I liked the last Eagles album more. This one is a bit too Country for my liking, and some of the rock n roll numbers feel a bit more generic. That said, it's well made and I'm still pretty down with it. Good production, some nice guitars, good backup vocals, and a number of the upbeat songs I really dig.

Najbolje pjesme: 1. Don't Stop Believin' 2. Tryin' 3. Train Leaves Here This Morning 4. Take It Easy

Perfectly inoffensive rock music to the point of bordering boredom. How else can you describe this band? I enjoy songs here and there but they are truly the vanilla ice cream of rock n roll. Appeals to lots of people at the cost of having no edge whatsoever.

Had no idea these guys were so country rock. I just assumed it was all Hotel California, which I like better...

it was alr 3/5

Take It Easy Witchy Woman Peaceful Easy Feeling

Take it easy is such a windows down, driving the back roads song. I will never not love it. Peaceful easy feeling is also a great listen. I could not tell you another song on here and I felt neutral about them. So meh.

Better than I'd expected

Nostalgia factor is up there on this album, but apart from the main hits the rest of the album isn't anything special.

At least this isn’t the one Hotel California is on. Doesn’t quite make me hate the f’n Eagles.

Sounds like something i would hear on a trip Fav songs: witchy woman Nightingale 8)

Not as bad as I feared but low points are painful

good debut

I don't hate it as much as the Big Lebowski does, but it is kinda boring.

Take it Easy is one of the Eagles songs that I really like, but this album generally peaks there. The album is ok, but not stellar.

Solid debut... don't know where all the hate comes from.

3 Stars, Not great, Not terrible...

# 194 : Not as good as Hotel California, but it’s a kind of ordinary album. I don't love it. I don't hate it. It just is. The hits are good, but the b-sides are kind of boring. Favourite Track : Peaceful Easy Feeling.

Nice music but didn’t grab me

I saw this pop up and thought this will be a 5. It's not. Couple great songs, a lot of mediocre songs. Not bad by any means, but not what I expected. The dude was right.

I know I'm supposed to hate the Eagles, but there's something I love about this 70's pop shit. BTW, this album is older than I imagined. The first two tracks slay. Unfortunately, the album dies for me until Peaceful Easy Feeling. Tryin' is an apropos ending.

Always liked the hits, again never listened to an album of theirs. Some of it was good, others not so much.

Pretty chill listen all things considered. For the most part the tracklist sonically sort of just sounds rather samey and with a few exceptions such as the whatever the hell is going on at the start of in Earlybird. It's serviceable country/folk rock all things considered.

Clean production but mostly repetitive

Undoubtedly, a great album

"Take it is easy" made the album for me, sadly the rest of it never hit that quality. Still enjoyed it throughout.

Take it Easy heeft een amerikaanse kampvuur sfeer.

Some good songs, though there are better eagles albums.

Good album, enjoyed the two listens. Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, and Nightingale were the songs that I enjoyed the most from the album. 3/5!

Better than expected - the classics are overplayed. Some of the other stuff is hit and miss, still found one or two that I liked the sound of

Genre: Country Rock Instruments: 2/5 Modern Translation: 2/5 Dance Potential: 2/5 Listening Location: commute to work & at work Heard it before: No Favourite Song: Take it Easy & Peaceful Easy Feeling Made me feel: Felt like I should be sitting around a fire pit with friends, next to lake, with the BBQ going after a day of being outside. Easy listening, digestible album.

You know what? I love those few songs, but I was really disappointed with the rest of the album! I'm going to get kicked out of our club I'm sure.

Well it’s better than Hotel California. The country vibe works better for them.

OK. Nothing special. The Eagles are more of a greatest hits/singles band than an album band. I've heard better. I've heard worse.

After listening to most of the Eagle catalogue I get why people hate them. When it's shit, it's really shit but they have some super catchy, awesome to sing songs, beautiful harmonies and Don knows how to sing about terrible heartache. And their songs are country as fuck and launched thousands of bro-country bands. Best track: Peaceful Easy Feeling

Yeah, fine.

Harmonies are their strong point and this album has a few decent songs. Like the country influence more than what comes later in their career. 3/5 Might listen to a few of the songs again

Pretty generic country rock. Not bad, but also not amazing.

Some great songs here, but the Eagles always feel so sanitized to me.

Obviously a little dated and the country influence doesn't appeal to me too much, but there's plenty to enjoy here.

Good album 3/5

early eagles albums were very good

Mellow rock with some cool guitar riffs. After Witchy Woman there wasn't a ton here that I would revisit.

Country, rock, pop, chill, would listen again. Warm feel. Abit boring and bland though.

Much like hotel California, the start is phenomenal then falls off

I feel like the hits always carry this band and the album is never as good as a whole. Cant believe I am giving this a 3 tbh

Listened Before? No As with Kid Rock, I never had any intention of listening to an Eagles album start to finish. Alas, here we are... I will say that I did not realize Eagles released their debut in 72'. Seems earlier than I would have expected. Album opens with one of their all time classics "Take It Easy." And I will say, of their hits, this is the one that holds the most appeal in my mind (next to Life in the Fast Lane). This is a standard blues rock jam that actually sounds heavily influenced by The Dead with far superior vocal harmonization. Witchy Woman is a bit moodier and more southern rock than blues-pop. Fine song. Chug All Night appears to be a horny honky tonk song using "chug" as a double entendre for drinking and fucking. Low point thus far, that is well suited for blaring in a garage while working on you 72 Chevelle. In one of the most curious sequencing decisions of recent memory, this transitions into the earnest and tender ballad Most of Us Are Sad. Honestly, if this had a bit more twang in the guitar and dust on the recording, I could mistake this for a Graham Parsons song (and I mean that as a complement). Enough of the sad stuff; back to a poppy southern rock song with Nightingale. Energy is fine, but execution is kind of meh. I actually enjoy the plonky southern blues of Train Leaves Here This Morning. I think I just have a weakness for this style of music when it is done reasonably well. It just calms me. Nice harmonization and room for the guitar to explore in the middle. Wish they did a bit more with the instrumental expansion... Earlybird is kind of wild. I both love and hate the bird whistle sample, but the guitar + banjo is kind of nice. Weird one, but one of the better on here. Peaceful Easy Feeling is the other recognizable hit. This one does a lot less for me than Take it Easy, but it is still just fine. All said, this was actually a much more pleasant ride than I expected going in. In my mind this oscillated the 2/3 boundary. The hits are fine and tap into something that I really enjoy. The rest kind of blends together for the most part and suffers from some of the jankiest sequencing I've heard. That said, I think I would be too harsh to go 2 on what is a rather serviceable record. So its a 3 from me, though I wish there were a bit more interesting elements to the instrumentation. Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlists: - Peaceful Easy Feeling (Sunny-vibes) - Take it Easy (Sunny-vibes)

First two songs I know. Although admittedly not my favorite Eagles songs. Chug all night is super cheesy. Cheese cheese kinda cheesy. Most Of Us Are Sad is a snoozer and making me sad. No real notes on the others. Just kinda boring until Earlybird which I enjoyed. Peaceful Easy Feeling is solid enough. For some reason most of these Eagles songs bore tf out of me. Between a 2-3 but I’ll round up for the singles and Earlybird. Plus, I had a bad day and I hate the fucking Eagles. #gobucs

I like the songs I already liked

The album has a strong start, really like the first couple of tracks. However the album as a whole is middle of the road.

Na het geweld van gisteren en de hardrock daarvoor ben ik eigenlijk best wel down voor wat slappe rock van The Eagles. Take it easy is een lekkere opener. Favo: Take it easy

Couple hits, but not as good as Greatest Hits.

eh. it didn't make me angry to listen to but after the first two tracks it was just a real nothingburger. happy for the people who like this but it's just more dull dad rock to me. take it easy is a pretty good song though favorites: take it easy, witchy woman

Very country overall. Take It Easy probably the best here. Witchy Woman also quite good.

It’s like, fine, but compared to Hotel California (which I had yesterday) it’s kinda shit

Some of my favorite Eagles songs (Take it Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling) plus Witchy Woman. I'm unfamiliar with the rest. Train Leaves Here This Morning is a nice tune, but I'm not feeling the rest.

Fair debut country-rocker from the global megastars, rightly loved by many. But it's success is in its easy listening, not in originality or creativity (look to CSNY if you want that).

The Eagles are a greatest hits type of band. The deeper cuts just aren't that great. P.S. For the love of God, I love The Big Lebowski too but that joke is plaaaaaayed out.

Nice one. This album has two of my favorite songs of theirs. It was also fun to hear some Eagles songs I’d never heard before.

Easy listening soft rock. Not the best eagles album tho

Eh. I listened to the first 2 songs with my husband, an Eagles enthusiast, and his enthusiasm made the songs a pleasant listen. But otherwise, totally not my thing. I’ll grant that Train Leaves Here This Morning is good, though I’d probably prefer a cover version. Bumps my score up from a 2 to a 3 though.

A literal photo of an eagle on the cover. A little more rock and a little less country than I'd imagined. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Take It Easy Date listened: 24/11/23

Of all the albums by these guys, I'm not sure why this one made the list. Three major hits, sure, but still.... The rest of the songs have the Eagles sound, but aren't really worth much.

Take it Easy - 3.5 Witchy Woman - 4 Chug All Night - 3 Most of Us are Sad - 2.5 Nightingale - 3.5 Train Leaves Here - 3.5 Take the Devil - 3 Earlybird - 3 Peaceful Easy Feeling - 3 Tryin' - 4

boring ish

Decent but still an Eagles hater for now. 2.7/5

Three big hits are: Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Witchy Woman (not a fan of this one), with one more decent track "Train Leaves Here This Morning". The rest is sub-par.

Come on man, I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles! Good classic Americana, and knowing the influence this had to popularize country rock, this clearly has a place on the list. But not something I'd listen to regularly.

Eagles is an okay, if nothing special, album. There were not any particularly amazing songs that i will go out of my way to listen to again but none of them were bad and all were pretty pleasant to listen to. It's an unremarkable but solid album. Best Song: Tryin' Worst Song: Train Leaves Here This Morning

Aika kesäistä southern rockia. Ei mitään erityistä huippukohtaa taaskaan. Tasaisen hyvää koko levy

the hits are incredible, the rest is fine but nothing really stands out, slower than expected

The Eagles are pretty ubiquitous. Never really been my jam. But I Ben I have taken a picture standing on the corner in Winslow, AZ. There’s a statue there and everything. There’s nothing really that offensive to me about any of the music. I just don’t like it very much. As The Dude once said, “I just fucking hate The Eagles, man”. Hate is strong word for my feelings on it, but it’s a quote.

Pretty good. I wanted Nightingale to use an actual nightingale. Did not like the vox Take the Devil. Everything else was very Eagles.

Thie very successful/lucrative country/rock hybrid of this band always sounds a bit cheesy to me. This (debut) is OK though. Prefer Creedence.

not great, not terrible

I really like witchy woman, the rest is good background eagles vibe time but not my favorites

I've been listening to the Eagles on and off for most of my life, but I don't think I've ever listened to any of their whole albums. However, I did lose my virginity to "Take It Easy," but only because I didn't have my copy of Bush's Sixteen Stone with me (she really wanted to listen to "Comedown," which she loved because it was used in the movie Fear, which was clue number one that it was a bad idea to have sex with her). I thought this album was fine. The band has a decent country rock sound, but this album doesn't really set them apart from other acts that were big in country rock at the time. "Witchy Woman" is the closest they get to their signature southwest flair, but the main guitar riff and the drumming feel derivative of stereotypes of indigenous drum circles. Also, the bird noises on "Earlybird" were incredibly annoying; the song would have been much better without it. Outside of the banjo and guitar on "Take It Easy," there's nothing too remarkable about the instrumentation on this album. However, I absolutely love the Eagles' vocals. Glenn Frey and Don Henley are fantastic singers, and the band sounds great when they harmonize as a group. I know I levied a lot of criticism at this album, but I truly did think it was fine. This was my first time trying to listen to the Eagles with a critical ear, and I was able to really put some attention into some music that I've been listening to since I was a kid. I think this album has a handful of great songs, but the rest of it is kind of lackluster. And for everyone who quoted The Big Lebowski in their review: grow up and watch a real Coen Brothers movie.

Very ez 3. Generic 70’s rock. Nothing too special. Tryin’ is the best song.

take it easy 3.5

A pleasant surprise 3.5

I am decidedly NOT anti-Eagles like a lot of my peers and I often am a bit confounded on the absurd hate they receive. Well, not really, but I think it’s overblown. Is it weird they are like highest selling American rock band of all time? Sure but who cares. They have a ton of good singles and a couple of genuinely good albums. They also have a lot of shit and they’re assholes. Anyway, the debut is an album where half is quite good, half is pretty atrocious. It’s like a 2.5 rounded up to a 3 to me. Early on, especially, they are always better with their breezy/country tracks rather than trying to rock, and that’s basically the case here. Anyway, I love Desperado and One of these Nights, this is just ok.

is aight, I like witchy woman because Elaine

This is ok. Pretty inoffensive. Got tired of it a little over halfway through the album. A low 3/5

Some classics and some boring country adjacent strum alongs

This album flirts a fine line between boring poppy-southern rock and a true piece of Americana magic. The harmonizations are fantastic and the guitar work can be absolutely stellar. The quirkiness fades to corny song composition when it’s not clicking, but the hits are hits for a reason. Truly a exhibition of some classic songs, and some truly forgettable b-sides.

Pleasant but not exciting, classy but not emotive, chilled but not cool. Eagles have always been around, but this doesn't really show why. If each album has 2 or 3 essential tracks, at least they will have a good greatest hits set.

OK I don't hate the f'in Eagles. I don't hate this album. It no longer blows me away but there was a time when it did.

"Take It Easy" undoubtedly stands out as a notable track, often celebrated as a classic in the realm of country rock. However, even within this gem, one can discern the deliberate approach the band adopted during production. The harmonies are flawlessly polished, and the melody is irresistibly catchy, yet an element of contrivance lingers, leaving behind a trace of artificiality. Likewise, "Peaceful Easy Feeling" presents a radio-friendly exterior that's difficult to overlook. Its conveyed sentiment is undeniably appealing, but the wrapping it's encased in appears somewhat tailored for mass consumption. The song's melody and structure appear custom-fitted to captivate a broader audience, possibly to the detriment of the raw, unrefined essence that you can find in a more sincere country rock song. Overall, the album, while delivering catchy and melodically satisfying songs, it is overly assembled. Resulting in an air of sterility that inhibits the emotional impact. It's almost as though the prioritization of crafting a commercially viable product took precedence over allowing the songs to breathe with the sort of genuineness that could deeply resonate with listeners. Perhaps the sound is just too kitsch for me.

Definitely dad rock A lot of songs on this album which are boarder-line country/folk. Best song: earlybird - the way the bird whistles act in it is very cool. Almost like a solo of its own

Take it easy, witchy woman, and peaceful easy feeling, we're great songs. I've never heard anything else off this album, I guess "tryin" was the best of the other tracks. Overall decent

Somewhere out there, other side of the horizon, ‘bout the place where the sun meets the green grasses; where the wheat fields yield to asphalt wondering like a wise hitchhiker, peripatetic being a close cousin of prophetic and all; out there, under a sky the kind of azure blue that makes you wonder if, of the billion other skies out there in the cosmos, could any ever be so beautiful; out there, in the remote wilds where the quiet thoughts sharpen against the blaring silences; out there there’s a chance that I might find something interesting about this record. As it stands, sitting here: I don’t. And in a funny, kind of cosy way, I actually like Eagles all the more for how almost completely unremarkable it is (“almost” because the last minute of “Take the Devil” sounds like the middle 8 of “Two Minutes to Midnight”– an unfortunate moment of attention grabbing intrigue that is, mercifully, faded out before it can be developed). Out there, it seems, the middle of the road might be safest place to be. Long live the out there journeymen and their sage advice. 2.5.

Just the Eagles being the Eagles.

Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling are nice enough but the rest was more boring than expected

Dad Music. Okay

this is for boomers but it is also quite good

Not a band I find particularly interesting. They record near perfect MOR rock for the masses. But it’s all a little dull.

Pierwsze 3 dobre, więc dostaje 3

Me terminé guardando dos temas con la palabra easy en el título. Es un 2.5 pero me siento generoso

"I hate the fucking Eagles" -The Dude

some really good songs on here, but also a lot of mid ones

Standard Rock. nothing too catchy

Fairly limp country with some nice harmonies.

Oikein miellyttävää, nautin.

Sitä jenkkiprätkälläajorockia. Kunnollista. 3/5

I liked this, though I didn't love it. Breezy country-rock with occasional interjections of heavy guitar. Never been a huge Eagles person (beyond Hotel California, that one rules) but have always been cool with them, so no surprises here. Best song: Take It Easy

It's alright

So I was super excited to listen to this album. The first two songs are amazing. Then. . . Not so much. I was surprised that I didn't like the whole thing. Too bad!

Not as bad as she described it

Solid 3/5. Some decent tunes but definitely a warm up for Hotel California.

Some good songs. Alright overall, might come back for two songs

Ugh. This album ... Yes, it's good. Yes, it's overplayed. No, I don't enjoy listening to it.

On “Hotel California,” I said that The Eagles are best when they hit that classic rock groove. Which they do on “Witchy Woman.” But they only do it there. “Take It Easy” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” are the slow country rock ballads that The Eagles did well and made their name on, but I need more “Witchy Woman.” Like many classic rock bands on the list, they're better as a greatest hits compilation.

Correctos. Take It Easy.

It was alright. It had a couple of recognizable songs - Take It Easy and Witchy Woman. I would listen to those again but not the whole album. I will round up.

Quite a chilled out rock album that I thought was decent. A bit folky in parts so not sure I'd listen to it again. Highlights: Take It Easy Take the Devil Tryin'

Never listened to the eagles before, enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Less poppy than I would've imagined. Taking it easy is probably the highlight. Thought most of us are sad was pretty good too. Not sure I'm too fussed about the rest

3/5. The three singles are truly awesome but the other songs are not memorable at all. Wish this could be higher but it’s just okay.

it’s the eagles so you know. i so think they’re overhated bc still

Il y a des bonnes tracks, mais rien d’extraordinaire, peut-être que je devrais le réécouter

Okay, three hit singles, the rest kind of duds

probably a 3.7, amazing singles and a great feel, but not as good as their other stuff

The Eagles really tempt me to hate them, but I don't. The timid distortion on those guitars? The Grateful Dead-lite vibe of some of these songs? Sorry, guys. I don't know what it is, but this works for me in a very light-rock, nostalgic way. Is this the first band I reach for? No it is not. But it ain't dead last, either.

The Eagles are a funny one - both enjoying wild, widespread popularity but also critical disdain for what is seen as a privileging of bland ultra-competence over grit, spunk or soul. I think there's a kernel of truth to the latter position. But surely even the haters have to acknowledge that 'Take It Easy' and 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' are perfect AM radio rock? And there are a couple of other cool cuts on this album - 'Earlybird' is a charming curio, plus the scenesters would jizz their keks if 'Witchy Woman' was by Redbone. There is, however, a dollop of filler here - and if 'Chug All Night' is not the Eagles' worst track - that's 'James Dean' - then, by god, it might be their worst song title; it's utter porridge! At least 'Tryin'' rocks.

The eagles get a lot of hate for reasons that go over my Gen Z head but I've never reacted to their music very poorly. This album wasn't mind-blowing or revolutionary by any means but it was a pleasant 37 minutes. The equivalent of a popcorn movie. Probably also a high 3.

3/5 feels generous but whateva

This style of country rock has always sounded like background music to me. Strange album experience because all songs kinda have the same vibe and a similar sound but some are clearly better than others. Cover art would be 10/10 if they centered the logo 👍: Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take it Easy 👎: Take the Devil

Anytime I’ve listened to this album I’ve had the same thought: “why don’t I just listen to their greatest hits?” Aside from maybe Train leaves here this morning, there’s no deep cuts that stand out from any other 70s SoCal rock song. 👍: Take it easy, Peaceful easy feeling

Man, this drummer kicks ass. Each song I was beating on my legs are tapping a water bottle. Like even for Chug all night, it was kinda corny but the drums saved it I don’t really care for the slow stuff but it wasn’t necessarily bad. Overall decent album but nothing stood out to me

Ik heb de fascinatie met deze band nooit begrepen. Prima muziek, maar wel een beetje saai.

This album makes me think of my mom. She's a bigger fan of Crosby, Stills, and Nash but she likes a couple songs from this album. Specifically, Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. It was nice to gain a bigger appreciation for the songs she likes but I don't think I'll be delving much deeper into their discography on my on volition.

This is a lot more CSNY than I expected. I can't pick out Don Henley's voice anywhere in the tracks but I hear his signature sound. I know the popular songs but not the rest and it'll probably stay that way.

"I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man." Jokes aside, the Eagles are alright and I really dig Hotel California even though its been played to death. Hotel California is on the album with the same name though and not on this one. This is 100% dad rock and not the good type of "gubbrock" as we call it in Sweden.

There are better Eagles albums.

Album de road trippin, un poco repetitivo en ciertos aspectos. Al fin y al cabo es un disco de mañana de domingo y un loquedijealprincipio 6/10

It was good, sounded like the Eagles. All their music is pretty good tbh.

Solid 3.5 here

I like the sound, not something I anticipated saying of a project with so much banjo. Really like Take It Easy and Witchy Woman, Most of Us Are Sad is also good. I see why their producer didn’t want to make an album before hearing them harmonizing, the harmonies are certainly a highlight. Real feel good easy listening grandpa rock. Good to have on, though mainly as background.

Recognized a lot of hits

I thought I hated the eagles… but I actually kinda enjoyed this. Easy listening 👂

Very easy and breezy overall. Listening to this album felt like driving through the desert in a convertible: there were times where I was driving slowly and watching the landscape roll by, and there were other times where I was I was flying down at top speed. This album is pretty generic but serviceable 70s rock, fast and fun, but nothing mind blowing or inventive.

decent soft-rock album, even if it was *too* soft for my liking. I understand that’s what the Eagles best did, but when all songs start blending into each other because they sound so alike - it’s hard not to get a bit annoyed.

chug all night was good and rock and roll-y rest was normal chill rock stuff

Singles are good; rest is filler.

UNLike the beatles i don’t get tired of listening to the eagles music.. heh siinä vasta totuus lausettu.. he will never let a popular movie line referenced countless times on the internet to snowball his opinion of the band eagles... heh... meikä poika sen sijaan objektiivinen... kaunis albumi... most of us are sad

2.5 Fairly boring country-rock/folk

Bit boring, 'witchy woman' nice

Not bad, honestly. Pretty straightforward classic rock stuff. Standouts: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Take the Devil, Earlybird

A pretty nice album.

It's like the same inoffensive song for 37 minutes straight.

Not an especially memorable one but a lovely easy Sunday morning listen.

Surprisingly nice

Overall chill and kinda boring. Good background music. The more I listen to the album the less I like it. Take It Easy is a classic, but otherwise won't go back to this one.

I surprisingly liked this record. They borrowed a lot from groups like CSNY and American Beauty-era Grateful Dead. Inoffensive soft rock. They really honed in on that 70s-singer/songwriter/laurel canyon sound.

Bell'album, chitarra e sound anni 70 Canzoni preferite: 1. Take It Easy 2. Chug All Night 3. Witchy Woman

De eagles hebben een paar mooie nummers, maar het album in het algemeen vind ik was slaapverwekkend. Het is mij iets te rustig.

Rating: 6/10

KAW KAWWWW KAWWW KAWW KAWW

Three songs.

I much prefer this album to Hotel California. 3+/5

Middle of the road and cheesy as FUUUUUUCK.

Some nice folk rock, reminded me of Fleetwood Mac often.

This was alright, I preferred the more rock/less country songs. But even the country aspects were mostly not annoying.

Terrible people by all accounts but I liked this a lot more than I expected. I always thought the high parts on 'Take It Easy' were female backing vocals...

I'm not on enough blow for this.

classic

Enjoyable, but nothing interesting

A few nostalgic songs for me that I recognize from things my parents would listen to. I don't mind the overall sound, but won't intentionally seek out to listen to again.

easy listening rock, dont think it was that special

This CD is ok, but it’s aged incredibly poorly. “Take It Easy” is a fantastic song and a fantastic way to start an album. But it goes off the rails almost immediately- “Witchy Woman” and “Chug All Night” have an extremely dated, very 70s, very by-the-books working-class-blues sound, with some awfully misogynistic undertones in the lyrics. That theme mostly continues uninterrupted for basically the rest of the CD- every song is either a dull ballad (and it really does have too many of those) or a genre I call “mediocre 70s rock”- that basic, self-satisfied style that assumed that 12-bar blues, backbeat, riffs based on suspended 4ths and a twangy voice singing about girls would be enough to make it to the top. The only thing that really distinguishes the Eagles is their vocal talent, and they really do have a lot of it- they have at least two distinct strong lead singers on this CD, maybe more, and strong (and reasonably interesting) vocal harmonies throughout. It’s just the rest of it is so weak, that alone can’t carry. They do kind of regain their footing at the end- “Peaceful Easy Feeling” is a great song, and the two “Easy” songs (which are quite similar and sung by the same guy, which makes me think he must’ve written one, realized it was a hit, then immediately tried as best as possible to rewrite it to churn out another hit) would’ve made a stellar double-A-side. But the whole thing makes just a mediocre album.

Every time I try to get into the Eagles it doesn’t really work. I just don’t have much use for soft rock unless it has a jazzy tinge ala the Dan. And frankly, I don’t see what listening to the album tracks will add to your life, when they’re largely forgettable compared to the hits. Although “Take it Easy” blows. C-

Never cared for this album as much as Hotel California but still a solid set of tracks nonetheless

Classic white people. 3.5

Yo dude I am fucking ambivalent about the eagles. Not as cool as the dude but more honest.

Nice early country rock (from LA but has a better country sound than most country). Good harmonies and melodies with pretty good songwriting. A variety of tones and themes are covered, and most are done at least competently. There is, however, quite a bit of album filler and weaker tracks. I hear a lot more of Boston in this album that I expected (or rather, since this came first, there’s more Eagles in Boston than I realized; that’s a plus because I like Boston). The amount of filler definitely brings it down, but it’s still a very solid album. Borderline 3-4 stars, I’m leaning 4 since the listen was an overall very positive experience. Top Tracks - Take it Easy – Nice and Chill - Witchy Woman – Cool vibes. Femme fatale songs are cool. - Peaceful Easy Feeling – Great solo and general good vibes.

The Eagles were playing in town the other night at the local hockey arena supporting their old album, "Hotel California" played in it's entirety. This is probably the only Eagles record I could actually listen to start to finish and the show featured only one original member of the band that played on the debut, Eagles. Pre- H.C., they were a laid-back, easy-going California band, that played something along the lines of Americana country folk rock. It was MOR and really nothing special and it took the recruitment of guitarist, Joe Walsh on H.C. to take the band to the next level. As far as their first album, there are a couple classic songs, I assume they play every show (Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling), apart from that, the rest is underwhelming, it's OK...but there are a lot better albums in the genre for sure.

It’s classic Eagles and I enjoyed it. Probably not quite a 4* though

Pretty fun, pretty solid, feels like good background music for a BBQ or hanging out at a lake. Camping music, around a fire. "Witchy Woman" I loved as a kid and it holds up.

Okay since it is Eagles but not the best one

Eh. It's the eagles. SOme good stuff, some not so good stuff.

Correctos. Take It Easy.

For me it is not a bad album, but I'd rather listen to the "Venice Beach League Playoffs 1987" cassette, dude.

The hits are great, filler is forgettable

Eagles’ strongest card by far is the fact that they’re all solid vocalists and their ability to write strong vocal harmonies. It shines through on almost every song alongside the joy of just playing together. There are obvious low point, such as “Chug All Night”, where they let straight up rock have the upper hand. Everything sounds more in place when they take it down a notch and let the melodies lead the way; as on “Take the Devil”. This is a great template of everything that was to come for one of history’s best selling bands!

Nie wiedziałem, że istnieje płyta Eagles bez Hotel California

just fine. Nothing really stood out too much, but it was at least easy to listen to. Sorry eagles.

Not bad, not great. A bit to soft for me and a lot of songs are a dime a dozen. Most of Us are Sad and Train leaves here this Morning are the better tracks, both sounding a bit like Neil Young. Vastly inferior to Hotel California.

Just grateful that this doesn't have Hotel California on it. Being their debut, this is a pretty impressive album.

lol at all the top reviews being Lebowski quotes. 😆 So, this was an inoffensive enough listen - didn't really grab me, but seemed perfectly pleasant. Some nice harmonies. I'd possibly rate it higher if I was hearing it in a different context? Fave track - uh, "Nightingale" maybe? Not many tracks stood out to me, tbh...

It’s the Eagles. It’s not as bad as I thought - it’s listenable at least so it’s a 3/5 but because it’s the Eagles, it loses one star.

Some hits, slow rock

An Eagles album without Hotel California is just elevator music. But in all seriousness, I guess this was fine. "Take It Easy" was an ear worm but the rest of the album was too bland for my tastes.

Me likely. Good sound. Very warm and brown.

classic, witchy woman is my fave from here.

Pretty cool that Take It Easy is the first song in their first album.

country clásico, no desagrada, no es mi favorito pero me alegro de haberlo escuchado

United Stated vibes.

Tiene buenas canciones pero nada que realmente destaque. Take It Easy en efecto es la mejor del disco y de ahí cae poco a poco. Tryin' y Most Of Us Are Sad también son dignas de mencionar. 3.5 que bajo a 3 porque no termina de despegar.

Good ole country rock, nothing short of what was expected. Nice easy listening

One of the weakest Eagles albums, but it does have three classic songs. 3/5

ta bueno, no pensé que me iba a gustar tanto

I'm sorry Americans. This is not revenge for anything. But it's so self-indulgent American it basically deserves to be shot into space.

I can see why some of these made the best of, there are some absolute stormers here. The other tracks are a bit less outstanding, but it was a very pleasant experience.

This was a good, fun album. I liked the country influenced rock sound. If I had to pick a stand out track it would be Nightingale or Tryin', but I wouldn't say that any tracks *really* stood out from the others. This isn't a bad thing, they were just all the same vibe for me.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected - knew Take it Easy and Witchy Woman of course, but the rest was good as well - reminded me of CNSY in sound (lots of vocal harmonies, that alt-country sound).

Very middle of the road trucker music.

Always been baffled by the amount of records Eagles have sold, but I can see the appeal in Take It Easy, and the chaotic birdsong/banjo combo on Earlybird was fun. 'Chug All Night' is an awful phrase though.

peaceful, easy listening, 3,5

Nice easy listen, will revisit a few tracks.

I don't mind the fuckin' Eagles, man.

6/10. I fucking hate the Eagles, man. This is fine, but pretty boring. The two songs from it that got popular are nice to listen to, though.

Listened in the car. I bet it sounds worse if you're not moving. Cokey and not unpleasant.

I know it’s kind of cool to say you hate the Eagles. It there are some really great tunes here. I live Take It Easy, even as a kid I loved that song. Witchy Woman is horrible. Just a garbage song. As is Most of Us are Sad. Ok, as are a lot of songs on this album. But I do like Peaceful Easy Feeling. Which is amazing because I’ve heard it a billion times plus my dad sings a cover of it and always fucks up the chorus (seriously), and it still hasn’t ruined it for me.

Nothing wrong with classics.

It was nice to listen to this first Eagles release, but for me, this album is the definition of "not so bad and not good enough". A perfect 3 stars album.

I don't love the Eagles, but this is admittedly not bad.
