Tusk

I struggled to enjoy anything on this album. Was all just a bit to MOR, and quite frankly, boring. Dull lyrics, dull music. It's not terrible but it neither makes me want to dance or sit and listen. One to skip.

For an album like this you need time. It may he a grower but was underwhelmed on first listen.

It's interesting to hear another fleetwood mac album, and it's not bad. It's just overly long, and there aren't so many standout tracks, although I do appreciate them not just doing a rumours clone

Fleetwood Mac nimenä herätti kiinnostusta. Hittibiisit ovat kovia mutta en ole varmaan mitään bändin albumia kuunnellut kokonaisuudessaan. Tämä oli aika hajanainen levy, kun kolmen eri vokalistin biisit olivat niin eri tyylisiä. Varsinkin mieslaulajan biisit ovat aika raskasta kuunneltavaa. Eipä kappaleetkaan toisaalta ole erityisen mieleen jääviä.

It's seems funny that back when I was a lad, this album had a terrible reputation. But even with the huge sale numbers for 'Rumours', and as with a lot of those late 70s soft rock/AOR/MOR band, I can recall Fleetwood Mac being regarded as very uncool and naff, a relic of the outdated music from the previous decade. 'Tango In The Night' reestablished them but even after 1987, they didn't have the reputation they have now. The full reappraisal of the Mac is a relatively recent event. Over the 20 songs it's good, bad, ugly, totally incoherent and generally all over the place. It unsurprisingly sounds an album that was heavily influenced by a very large mountain of cocaine. Having said that Lindsay Buckingham never gets the credit her deserves - for both his songwriting and his guitar playing. The Twilight Singers version of his "What Makes You Think You're the One" is far superior though.

Following up the biggest album of your career with a bunch of inscrutable tunes (the best of which features a marching band, which will always rule) takes ENORMOUS BALLS. (Also, it's named after Mick Fleetwood's pet name for his wang, so there's that going for it as well.)

Soulful, melodic rock - an enjoyable listen

great album capturing fleetwood mac, strong instrumental songs aswell as vocal ones. Although the use of different singers and styles make it feel like its a mashup of 2/3 different other records. And some songs remind me of more famous songs

Not nearly as good or cohesive as Rumours, but still an enjoyable time. I like the title track best, I think.

"Sara" is the best song on the album, sung by Stevie Nicks. The rest of the album is pretty meh - nothing really stands out. 5/10.

Try listening to this album as two albums, one with all the even-numbered tracks and one with all the odd-numbered tracks. Honestly, this may be one of the more overlooked albums for an artist that had a prior number one album. It’s not Rumours and that’s okay. Tusk is one of the best “weird” songs, shout-out to the USC marching band.

Very consistent sounding album in terms of tone and tempo. A concept album. Calm, relaxing.

The percussion sounds too harsh in most of the songs, the transients are too squashed. Maybe it's because I listened to the remastered version. I need to re-listen to this album in its original version someday. Female vocals were on point though.

Od strony produkcyjnej bardzo miód dla uszu, szczególnie na głośnikach (na słuchawkach, momentami, panning okazywał się dla mnie bardzo irytujący i potrafił odwrócić moją uwagę od muzycznej strony projektu) - ale co się dziwić kiedy wyjebali na produkcję taką kupę forsy. Muzycznie wszystkie kawałki są bardzo przyjemne, jednak w większości nie urzekły mnie od strony kompozycyjnej i zabrakło mi w tym czegoś intrygującego, żebym miał później ochotę wracać do tego albumu jako całości, bo nie wywołał on we mnie większych emocji (wcale nie dlatego, że mój gust opiera się w dużej mierze o mroczne i pokręcone klimaty), z wyjątkiem kilku kawałków które jednak wybiły się ponad szereg i zrobiły na mnie wrażenie. W dużym skrócie: świetny record, ale emocjonalnie dupy mi nie urwał Ulubione kawałki: The ledge (ultra lekki, catchy i energetyczny, bez banalnych rozwiązań mimo wszystko), Sara (nie wiem czemu ale skojarzyło się mi momentami przez melodię z the winner takes it all i zrobiło mi się sentymentalnie, nie przez miłośc do abby, ale ze względu na wykorzystanie tego utworu w jednym z najbardziej emocjonalnych momentów w BTCS XD), Brown Eyes (te laid-back momenty z nutą nostalgii mnie kupiły), Tusk (ten poczatek niesztampowy kompletnie mnie urzekł, chyba najbardziej intrygująca kompozycja z całości jak na moje ucho, ze względu na tą ewoluującą kompozycję - dynamika i zmiennośc jest u mnie zawsze na plus).

Enjoyed this one. Some good songs though none that compare to rumors. Some late 70s vibes but gets a little stale later on in the album.

Crazy - hadn’t heard this. Love the kick off track and “Sara”. Not a big Buckingham fan (who leads the charge here) but credit where credit is due.

I was deciding between 3 and 4, but now towards the end I am leaning more towards a 3. I could hear their talent from across the room but it just wasn’t interesting enough for me to feel it. still a great band and album.

Yeah, this is a long album. And not all that poppy (for a band coming off a pop-rock masterpiece). For sure there are some definite pop elements (mostly Christine McVie) but famously (infamously?) it was a conscious effort to not be "Rumours: The Sequel" - total respect for that because it would have been boring, not possible, etc. But so yes - this is a long and a weird one. Not shitty-weird-for-the-sake-of-it-but-ends-up-being-a-pile-of-ass like Velvet goddamn Underground but definitely something way more than a collection of pop songs - it's a diverse mix. While there are some Stevie songs like "Sara" which are the kind of "ah yeah that's some AM-gold Fleetwood Mac (and the rather dull Christine McVie cuts "Over and Over" and "Never Make Me Cry"), but also the title track "Tusk" which I recall getting considerable airplay as a kid. Tusk is sort of an unsettling song... which I like. And to double back so as not to pick on Christine McVie's boring cuts - "Brown Eyes" has a slinky creepy vibe to it that probably couldn't have been a hit yet is still accessible. Love it. Also this album *sounds* amazing - just sonically. Don't listen to it in through chintzy phone speaker - put on some headphones at least. I grew up kinda thinking I hated Fleetwood Mac - as a kid in the late 70s and 80s very into music, I preferred more mystery, more hard-hitting, more drama, and Fleetwood Mac's smooth hits were always on the radio. But this is kinda/sorta their White Album? If I critique it in a negative way, there honestly aren't a lot of amazing songs, but on the other hand there just aren't really any bad ones which is something. What a milquetoast review - ha. I'd sum it up by saying there is a little of everything from good to less good, but it is quite a talented piece of art and I'm glad to give it a revisit, just won't be an all-time favourite of mine. 7/10 3 stars

Yeah was a really cool album. I believe it's the follow up to Rumours (which I love) and I just recently heard an interview with mick Fleetwood about the writing of and recording of the album.

It was ok. It wasn't anything special in my opinion with there being a few songs that actually annoyed me. Overall the feel was chill and low-key, nice to hear at times but bc of some of the annoying songs I will likely stay away from this album. 5/10

Usually not a fan of double albims but Tusk was a pretty great listen. Each of the three songwriters bring something great to the table. Particually liked Sara and and Angel where there was a notable moment from each member. Over & over me and Tusk were great too.

Familiar with Tusk the song, and my Fleetwood Mac fandom kinda starts and ends with Rumors. Really looked forward to this one even though my tolerance for double albums is very low. Any record that opens with a Christine McVie vocal is off to a great start. The standouts are from McVie and Stevie Nicks: Sara, Over & Over, Storms, Sisters of the Moon and Angel are just stunning. Found myself skipping through all the Buckingham tracks whose punk-inflected brashness are juxtaposed awkwardly alongside the tender beauty of the Nicks and McVie songs. "Tusk" will always be associated with the TV series The Americans for me. Album ends on a fade out which is crazy?!

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac (1979) By 1979, bassist John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood had engineered the evolution of Fleetwood Mac from pioneering British blues in 1967 to global pop dominance, chiefly and ingeniously through the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks in 1975. This yielded two of the greatest albums of all time, Fleetwood Mac (1975) and Rumours (1977). In the production of Tusk in 1979, however, Lindsey Buckingham steered the group in a new direction—or rather his ego jumped into the driver’s seat. With tracks written as love poems (Stevie Nicks), guitar songs (Buckingham), and piano tunes (Christine McVie), it seems on this album that John McVie and Mick Fleetwood are just along for the ride (exception: “Tusk”). And that’s a shame. John McVie should have shortened Buckingham’s leash. A number of failed experiments (“The Ledge”, “Save Me a Place”, and, well, most all the nine songs by Buckingham except “Tusk”) and several sonic rehashes (“Over & Over”, “Think About Me”, “Sisters of the Moon”) leave the first-time listener disappointed, and likely to become a last-time listener. “Sara” and “Sisters of the Moon” are not songs for people who like music. They are songs for people who like Stevie Nicks. She’s likable enough, but the earth doesn’t shake. “Not That Funny” is not that good, but it is funny, in that tries to be pop and punk at the same time. It attempts to synthesize the un-synthesizable. And “That’s Enough for Me” is enough for anyone. Christine McVie seems to be the only member of the band who retained artistic integrity and creative flair (“Brown Eyes”, “Never Make Me Cry”, and “Honey Hi” are really good). On this album, Fleetwood Mac became fragmented. All five of the band members finalized splits from their significant others during the making of this record. It shows. But they still had to pay the bills. 2/5

So far I’m finding this just okay. I don’t hate it, but it’s not really jumping at me, either. Honestly, it’s just a lot of the same, and by the middle of the album, it was starting to grate on me.

Fleetwood Mac at their pop-rock blandest. None of the soul of the early years and not even any of the catchy tunes of Rumours. Occasionally feels like it might go somewhere experimental and interesting but always backs of and heads to safety. Basically forgettable start to finish.

Honestly surprised me that there was a female voice on the album - genuinely thought it was a male led band. Then I do some extra digging and find out the Stevie Nicks is that voice?! Definitely a TIL. Overall a good alt album which I can see some songs making it onto a road trip playlist. But for the hype that everyone talks about Fleetwood Mac, IMHO, totally overrated. Best: Angel Worst: Honey Hi

В общем-то, в разрезе этой группы для меня интересна только одна вещь - насколько же последняя треть прошлого века на западе была богата и процветающа. Как же много денег крутилось в музыкальной индустрии, и перепадало на карман даже в целом невзрачным актам без каких-то уж супер интернациональных хитов. Вот для записи этого полуакустического альбома группа Флитвуд Мак взяла и построила себе отдельную студию. Просто чтобы записать то, что можно было в домашних условиях насобирать (ну ладно, в то время, наверное, запись была не настолько доступна, но всё равно, вы тоооолько вдуууумайтеееееесь). И так было везде - музыканты просто утопали в роскоши, нафармленной с продажи дисков/пластинок. Интересно, конечно, смотреть на это сейчас, когда даже относительно успешные группы вынуждены музыку с работой совмещать. Да и на запись хуй тебе кто денег даст - сначала сам, за свои, запиши и сведи альбом, а потом, так уж и быть, связав тебя анальным контрактом, добрый дядя-издатель великодушно присвоит себе твой труд и твою душу и поместит тебя куда-нибудь на плакатик. Ну да ладно, что по музыке можно сказать? А хуй его знает, честно. Продукт своего времени, очевидно, хиппарские завывания под гитарку с выборочными экспериментами по звучанию. Плохо ли? Да ну не то чтобы, местами прикольно. Достойно ли звания одной из самых коммерчески успешных групп эвер? Ну бля, зависит от опр... да нет, конечно. Если к прорывному Rumours ещё можно отнестись с теплотой из-за реально качевой The Chain, то здесь по большей части нечто постное и закадровое, хоть и без совсем уж "сыра" и блевотного блюза. Количество оценённых песен, кстати, немаленькое, но стоит держать в уме что это (о боги, когда уже это кончится) - двойной альбом на двадцать песен, а следовательно понравилась только его треть. Да и то, как сказать "понравилось"... ну если проблеск хоть чего-то неординарного ловился, то неуверенно ставил палец вверх. Но запало ли хоть что-то прям до глубины души? Да не. Можно послушать: Think About Me, Sara, That's All for Everyone, Sisters of the Moon (наверное, лучшая), Brown Eyes, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Tusk. Можно не слушать: всё остальное. 6/10

Dakle, ima dost dobrih stvari, ali po meni je album dosta dugačak. Definitivno je oko 3.5/5, ali nije 4. Inače, ovo je prvo slušanje albuma, pa je moguće ako bih se opet vratio na album digao rejt, znam da nije ispod 3.5.

Riding off the high of "Rumours", Fleetwood Mac all decided to do something a little different. Literally. Lindsey, Stevie and Christine all sort made their own different songs and sort of just put it together as a Fleetwood Mac album. In theory, it shouldn't have been something that works...but for Tusk, it absolutely does. It highlights the creative strengths of each writer, and gives us a strong double album that solidifies this lineup beyond a one-trick pony. Stevie gives us strong ballads, Christine gives us uplifting possibilities, and Lindsey is a mad scientist creating sonically-based monsters. I'd rather Jack, than Fleetwood Mac

I'm so excited, my first Fleetwood Mac album on here. This is the album you didn’t really hear about too much for years, but over time listeners have come to appreciate it. I think it’s because people didn’t know what to make of Tusk. It was eternally in the shadow of what came before it, big and ambitious as the band may have tried to make it. After Rumours, Tusk was considered a failure as an album, but I don’t think they could have made a better album under those circumstances. The band was a crazy success, and they were also on the verge of falling apart. The double album was risky, and boy do they go big with the risk. They bring in the USC marching band to play on the title track, for Pete's sake. Stylistically it’s kind of a mess from the outset. It starts out all soft and sweet with Christine McVie on “Over & Over,” then throws you headfirst into the frenetic wackiness of Buckingham’s “The Edge.” Then! They throw on the brakes for McVie again in “Think About Me.” That drove me crazy the first time I sat through this album, the way the mood and the flow of the album is all over the place, but if you just lean into the disarray and stop expecting it to go in a particular direction, you will enjoy this album so much more. Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work is beautiful, as always. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie hold up the backbone as tightly as ever, and all three vocalists are in top form. The arrangements are solid, utilizing a lot of layered vocals and instrumentation. Buckingham is the dominant force on the album, but the more cool and restrained energy of Christine McVie really helps to temper his wackadoo brilliance. Stevie Nicks is a force of nature, bringing warmth and heart to the table as well as some incredibly personal songwriting. It really takes all these artists working together to pull off some special magic that, honestly, none of them have ever captured in their solo work. For all of its perceived (and real) flaws, I'm still happy to just give this album the full five stars. Other bands wish they could be so disorganized and still end up sounding so great. Obviously not as classic as the previous Rumours but still a cracker album.

If this was a single LP it would be a strong 5 stars. A lot of great songs on this one.

Fleetwood Mac are amazing but this album was a bit hit and miss for me. Musically it was great and loved a few songs. But not enough to get more than a like. Maybe because some of my favourite songs come later on in their career.

i think imma like it 3 or 4? but rumors is the one with landslide.

Tusk is fleetwoods last real album. It shows the band separating with the different styles throughout. The album feels eclectic but it may be more due to the differences of the members showing through. It’s obviously not their best album but it also isn’t their worst. Would’ve loved to see what could have happened in the 80s as this album had great tunes and they were arguably one of the biggest bands. This is great as Fleetwood always is. As long as Stevie nicks is included. 7.9/10

-Quite the surprised but I actively wanted to turn this off, most of it was boring -"Tusk" was great -"The Ledge" and "Sara" were good -Thay's pathetic for a double album

For starters…I’m a huge Lindsay Buckingham fan. I would not want to be him and have to produce the follow-up to “Rumours”, one of the biggest rock records of all time. All that being said…this album falls way short. A lot of the songs would have been interesting if they’d been on a Lindsay solo record. On the follow-up to Rumours? Not so much. I appreciate the attempt to not repeat themselves, but that ambition wasn’t supported with many strong songs. That combined with the lofty expectations for this record contributed to this record sinking like a stone. A misfire for sure.

Honestly was a bit disappointed with this. It's fine and some great songs but not as impressive as Rumours IMO. Thought I'd like it more but probably is a grower.

Not as good as Rumours but good in its own way

For whatever reason this one of my least listened to FM albums. I generally think that everything they do is genius, but this one is a little too chill for me. A few great tracks on it though.

Don't like ALL Fleetwood Mac apparently. Sara's great, and maybe another

Fleetwood Mac are at their best when the bass is bouncing, the drums are driving, and Stevie is doing her thing. On most of the tracks here, they tap into that sweet spot to create nostalgic, happy-sad tunes with huge production value. Special shoutout to the use of delay, panning and harmonies on this thing; at different points evokes Floyd, Beach Boys and CHuck Berry esque ROck n Roll classics

I like some of the songs on this album but it's no Rumours. I own this one on vinyl!

Not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album... This album is still a classic. Worth listening too every once in a while.

How do you follow up one of the best selling records of all time? By doing something completely different. A long, weird album with way more hits than misses. Tusk is still a bad ass song, and Stevie and Christine still have all the best songs.

Seems like it is only good when Stevie Nicks sings. Lots of fluff and way too long.

Another good Fleetwood Mac album, though it's not as fantastic as their previous two, 'Rumors' and 'Fleetwood Mac'. It's not bad, but you can definitely tell that the musical direction has changed.

Compared to Rumors, this album is very boring to me. It’s still great on the technical end (recording, mastering) but the content does not grab me. Other than the 1 or 2 singles cut from this album, the rest is mostly forgettable.

So, so many different sounds on one album. There is a pretty clear influence of drugs on a lot of the more up-paced songs. They go fast, they feel groovy but they make very little sense. Track 2 feels like the essence of cocaine funneled into a song. I've enjoyed half the album thus far, but its all over the place. Only one or two songs feel like they were written with soul. Second half seems to be where the feelings come through. Overall, a very solid listening experience. Ups and downs, fun and serious. Very, very 70s.

The album was fine, but none of the tracks felt like something that I would want to play again individually. "Sara" was the only track that sounded familiar. I did not like several tracks ("What Makes You Think You're the One", "Not That Funny", "Tusk"). Even though there are some tracks where you can hear the quality of Stevie Nicks' voice ("Honey Hi", "Beautiful Child", "Walk a Thin Line"), her voice isn't strong enough to carry the weaker portions of this double album. This was a solid 3 - there was stuff I liked, but would not listen to the album as a whole again. Most of the tracks scored a 3 as well.

Not a fan of this. Nothing which is particularly bad, but nothing which I particularly enjoyed either. Sisters of the Moon, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Never Forget and especially the title track were exceptions, but four songs out of 20 isn't a great turnout

Being a 70’s child I was too young to appreciative this Fleetwood Mac era. Luckily for me there are multiple ways to enjoy the music today though. I will admit this is one band I’ve never listened to outside of a Greatest Hits album. I’m very aware of the classics but, as always, these songs do not always tell the whole bands story. Matter of fact, it’s only recently I’ve delved into the bands catalogue and researched the members. Embarrassingly, I always assumed Nicks was the main singer... man was I wrong! Lindsey Buckingham is seriously one of the best rock voices of any era IMO. I like to regard my self as an (average) guitarist, and at least a musician so I understand the technical complexities & nuances involved in most of the songs on this album. For what it’s worth I now regard Lindsey as one of the best guitarists in the world...apologies if I’m a bit slow on the uptake but the guys a freak. I even prefer him vocally, with his raw and passionate tones but that takes nothing away from the girls. Anyway, with all this said I knew what to expect from this album and it didn't disappoint. From the tender ‘Storms’ to the haunting ‘Brown Eyes’ to the heartbreaking ‘Never Make Me Cry’ and then rounding off with the primal ‘Tusk’. As you can probably guess, I have no hesitation in recommending this album. If you don’t find enjoyment somewhere here...then you best check yourself for a pulse. 4 Stars!

After the one-two punch of Fleetwood Mac and Rumors, there were ridiculously high expectations for Tusk. Lindsey Buckingham was widely credited for being the main architect of the sound and vibe for those albums, so he was freely indulged on Tusk (half of the songs are his compositions). The eponymously titled lead-off single, a ditsy earworm backed (really!) by a high school marching band, was released to great fanfare. The rock press pretended to like it, but the Tusk single was an embarrassment (albeit used brilliantly in the soundtrack of Boogie Nights 20 years later). On the strength of Fleetwood Mac's previous two albums and the attendant hype, the single was a minor hit. Now, I realize that the song is meant to be humorous, but it also makes the band look foolish. I remember being embarrassed for them when it came out on the radio. The stink was bad enough that I didn't bother to listen to Tusk for another 50 years. As an album, Tusk was a huge commercial disappointment given the outsized expectations. Fortunately for us, Tusk the double album is far better than Tusk the single would lead you to believe. Inspired by the latest developments in punk and new wave, Lindsey Buckingham's songs are rife with sonic experimentation. Sometimes the stringed instruments sound homemade (from tuning the instruments way lower than normal, say), and the percussion often consists of random household items like frozen lamb chops and a Kleenex box being struck. Some instruments were miked in a studio replica of Lindsey Buckingham's bathroom or right next to a tile floor. The overall effect is scrappy and harsh, at least for Fleetwood Mac. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. That's All For Everyone is haunting and vibrant, like a weirder version of Brian Wilson. Not That Funny is amusingly scabrous in a gutbucket kind of way. That's Enough For Me and I Know I'm Not Wrong have a nervous, coked up energy that's kind of thrilling. Walk A Thin Line memorably exudes paranoia and tension. Save Me A Place is a lesser effort, which isn't helped by cardboard percussion, simple mandolin strumming, and unaccountably ugly background vocals, inexcusable in a group with this much vocal talent. And of course, the title cut is wretched. The other two songwriters, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie, provide a balance for Buckingham's eccentricity. Their contributions are either mellow ballads or gentle rockers. McVie comes off best. Her Never Make Me Cry is an especially lovely ballad. Honey Hi is as sweet as its title. Never Forget is upbeat and romantic, anchored by McVie's tasteful comping on electric piano and Buckingham's biting slide guitar. On the other hand, Stevie Nick's Sisters of the Moon is uninspired, by the numbers mopery in spite of Lindsey Buckingham's passionate guitar solo. Angel is similarly lackluster. Nicks is in full Glenda the Good Witch mode here, and it's boring. Her songs slow Tusk a crawl, a big problem in a double album. Equally as damaging, the hooks just don't sink very deep on Tusk, the way they did on Fleetwood Mac and Rumors. This is deadly for a mainstream pop band. If Fleetwood Mac had jettisoned most of the Stevie Nicks tunes, kept the strongest McVie compositions, and gotten rid of the title track, they would have had a pretty strong album. As it is, Tusk is a decidedly mixed bag

How to follow up 'Rumours'? With a double album of course! A real mixed back of lush songs and lo-fi ones next to each other. Still great tunes all throughout the album though. Pretty decent album, though most songs are a bit too sleepy for my tastes. Rumours wins over Tusk for me. That being said, the song "Tusk" is a jam!

Really Nice album. Got a bit boring in parts - I think a few songs could have been culled, but mostly really enjoyed it. Really nice guitar (except the Boing sounding one) and the Drums throughout (Those Toms in Tusk!). Their harmonies are just so good too. *Over & Over, * Storms (beautiful), Sister of the Moon, Honey Hi and of course one of my fav Fleetwood Mac songs - Tusk were my big highlights

More than any other Fleetwood Mac album, Tusk is born of a particular time and place -- it could only have been created in the aftermath of Rumours, which shattered sales records, which in turn gave the group a blank check for its next album. But if they were falling apart during the making of Rumours, they were officially broken and shattered during the making of Tusk, and that disconnect between bandmembers resulted in a sprawling, incoherent, and utterly brilliant 20-track double album. At the time of its release, it was a flop, never reaching the top of the charts and never spawning a true hit single, despite two well-received Top Ten hits. Coming after the monumental Rumours, this was a huge disappointment, but the truth of the matter is that Fleetwood Mac couldn't top that success no matter how hard they tried, so it was better for them to indulge themselves and come up with something as unique as Tusk. Lindsey Buckingham directed both Fleetwood Mac and Rumours, but he dominates here, composing nearly half the album, and giving Christine McVie's and Stevie Nicks' songs an ethereal, floating quality that turns them into welcome respites from the seriously twisted immersions into Buckingham's id. This is the ultimate cocaine album -- it's mellow for long stretches, and then bursts wide open in manic, frantic explosions, such as the mounting tension on "The Ledge" or the rampaging "That's Enough for Me," or the marching band-driven paranoia of the title track, all of which are relieved by smooth, reflective work from all three songwriters. While McVie and Nicks contribute some excellent songs, Buckingham owns this record with his nervous energy and obsessive production, winding up with a fussily detailed yet wildly messy record unlike any other. This is mainstream madness, crazier than Buckingham's idol Brian Wilson and weirder than any number of cult classics. Of course, that's why it bombed upon its original release, but Tusk is a bracing, weirdly affecting work that may not be as universal or immediate as Rumours, but is every bit as classic. As a piece of pop art, it's peerless.

Lots of fantastic tracks, but this honestly feels more like a compilation than an album, it’s so long and disconnected. 8

I know it's so long but it's my kind of music. So chill, so pretty. 8 stars

Tusk is the White Album of the 70’s. It’s all over the place. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and there’s something for everyone to skip. At the end of the 70’s bands such as The Police embraced the synth. Tusk instead chose to embrace punk. The album has a few songs on it that remind me of garage rock. Speaking of garage rock, Mick got replaced by Ringo on “What Makes You Think You're the One”. Someone tell me otherwise. It sounds like a drummer just showed up for the gig and has never heard the song before. I can’t stand that it is sandwiched between my two favorite songs on the album. Lyrics have the potential to be something but the drums didn’t allow that to happen. On “Not That Funny” punk enters the ring and I respect them for it. Just not my thing. I’m definitely skipping those two on relistens. Songs I liked: Over & Over The Ledge: Think About Me That’s All for Everyone Angel- I really liked this one lyrically. Brown Eyes Beautiful Child Tusk- The famous title track. I didn’t get the hype but I liked it. MUST LISTENS “Sara” is just Fleetwood Mac doing Fleetwood Mac things. Amazing song with a side of love triangles and a pinch of a love affair. I couldn't figure out what the lyrics meant on “Sisters of the Moon” but then apparently neither could Stevie Nicks. The music is a fantastic jam and stands out as one of the best songs on the album. “Storms” is one of their best songs and the biggest reason why Tusk is an essential Fleetwood Mac album.

Enjoyable

I really like some of the songs on Tusk, but as an album it's not my favorite FM album. It feels like there is a lot of filler here in between the hits. I do appreciate it for it's place in the Fleetwood Mac story.

Good album! While more experimental than their signature sound, it was great to explore the post-Peter Green Mac. Some really cool sounds, great vocal performances, good songs, it makes me eager to explore the other work. Criticism would be length and several similar sounding songs.

It's not "Rumours". It's really hard to give any substantive criticism to this album because of how heavily the "Rumours" shadow looms over it. "Tusk" is certainly a good album, but it's a little too long and drags at times. And at those times, I'm resisting the temptation to stop the album and put on "Rumours".

No Rumours.

I can hear in this album why some people appreciate this band so much. I don't have much history with them, other than being familiar with the hits. I like the driving beat that permeates many of the songs, it makes me feel like I'm on a journey, looking out the window of the Amtrak at the mountains or something. I also like that they become unhinged (for them) at certain moments, and showcase some messiness alongside the otherwise unobjectionable prettiness. The mix of vocalists works for me too because there is not one that I object to. All in all, a good album that I would listen to again.

I think this album is great. It really took me by surprise when I first heard it and it gave me newfound respect for them - particularly Lindsey Buckingham, who is the mad genius behind the more manic bursts on the album (the ones I enjoy the most). This is an amazingly brave album to make as the follow up to a pop masterpiece smash hit. They still pull off the pristine pop songcraft while also unleashing their inner weirdo. It's a win-win. A bit schizophrenic but I think in this case it's all the better for it. A wooden rollercoaster ride and probably a good reflection of their own states of mind at the time.

I find Fleetwood Mac boring/uninspiring without Stevie Nick's vocals. So, some big duds on this album for me. Also, way too long. Rumors this ain't. A few ones I liked like Sara but beyond that, I'd never listen to anything on this album.

I didn't like it, I gave up half way through at the song Storms.

Usual complaint of albums over an hour, was too long. Good album, not hugely coherent, missed a lot of what makes the Fleetwood Mac sound. Some really good individual songs though.

I have rumours belted into my head so this album just doesn't seem to hit the same heights. Some really nice sounds and harmonies but the songs never really hooked me in.

A bit disappointed I thought I'd enjoy this more. Songs aren't strong enough to justify the length of the album. There are a few tracks I enjoyed outside of Tusk but that for me is the standout song. By the time you get to it though I could see why people might not be bothered at that point. 2*

A nice album.

I know this is a hot take but I've always thought Fleetwood Mac are overrated. I particularly disliked every single one of the Buckingham tracks - What Makes You Think You're the One is especially off putting. Did he have a four year old drumming for him? The fact that the $1million production cost makes it the most expensive album ever made makes it even worse and his attempt to channel David Byrne have fallen very very short. I get the valiant attempt of trying not to make a Rumores 2.0 but fkn hell go easy. McVie's weren't that much better. On the flip side, all the Stevie Nicks tracks are excellent. Sara and Storm were really really good and saved this album from the dreaded Vokes 2/5 rating.

I've been waiting for one of those iconic FM tracks to come on and make me take interest in this album, but I don't think it's coming. Rumours can never be matched because it just holds your attention through the whole album in this really unique way that few albums can do, but Tusk is like the cooler older sibling to Rumours. More chilled out, more suave, easier listening. More diversity between tracks. I'm in love.

Very nice listen

There's a reason people gush over Rumors and not Tusk. This whole album feels like a really long demo tape. And I'm listening to a 2015 remastered version. And still, the album is full of rough ideas, unfinished thoughts, sketchy instrumentation, and half-assed lyrics. I get that, among a certain generation of music critics, Fleetwood Mac is one of those darling bands but I cannot understand why THIS album is on the list. I'm not a FM fan and even I know that they have better albums than this one.

Tusk is Fleetwood Mac's White Album (a disparate collection of individually created songs) and their Smiley Smile (in which they overthink the runaway success of their band-defining album and go too far in the opposite direction). Joyless and disappointing at times. Best track: Storms
