Reviews (page 13 of 14)

Fahrstuhl Musik.

I made it all the way through and I was only a little bored

This is the music that gets played in bars where old white people drink cocktails prepared by a brown person (but one of the good ones) and arrange to cheat on the person they’ve been married to for forty years but hate, before going off to slowly and painfully fuck each other in grim silence. Samba deez nuts.

Just noise. Making me question the quality of this list’s compilation

Jazz… Samba… exactly as described. My mood today didn’t match. 4.0

Samba bores me I am sorry

Great genre album, great background music, but not a super amazing active listen

Pleasant, but like a lot of well-regarded jazz that is not guitar-centered, I’m not jazzy enough for this (yet?).

Mildly pleasant, but this is just jazzy background music. 2/5

Elevator music

Technically proficient, richly produced, and utterly flavorless. There’s just nothing here that makes this poignant or useful. It’s the progenitor of Muzak and hotel lobby jazz and even though it sounds great it feels incredibly hollow.

Did absolutely nothing for me, I'm afraid. Smooth jazz just isn't something I'll ever enjoy listening to, no matter how well played and composed.

not awful for a jazz album

- I like it in the background, but I wonder what it’s like live? Because I hate to say it, but it gives me mall-music vibes.

Taking as individual pieces these songs are very melodic. However as a piece, they are just mildly diverting. A lot of hipsters will chin stroke themselves into a wild frenzy over this album but its just a collection of songs, nothing more.

I recognize that this is objectively good music, I just….dont like samba lol.

I feel like Jazz Samba requires that I take a Jazz Appreciation course before I can give it the review it deserves. Subjectively, it’s a 2 for me, and that’s mostly because my jazz baseline is Kind of Blue. Where Miles Davis feels like a revelation every time, Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd just sound like a tiki-cocktail happy hour. Maybe that’s the point — this record feels like a watered-down introduction to bossa nova for American ears. In the end, I walked away more impressed by its historical footprint than by the music itself.

Elevator music Ill play on my wedding

Listening to “Jazz Samba,” I found that, aside from a fleeting interest in the opening track, the album struggled to hold my attention. Its melodies, while pleasant enough, rarely sparked excitement. The experience was neither offensive nor invigorating—, it just unfolded with a gentleness that, for me, bordered on monotony. Having now explored at least half a dozen jazz albums as part of this listening journey, I find myself accepting that jazz, simply doesn’t resonate with my personal tastes. 2 ⭐. Would I listen to this album again? No. Would I buy this album? No. 1. "Desafinado"  — 2 2. "Samba Dees Days"  – 2 3. "O Pato" – 2 4. "Samba Triste" – 2 5. "Samba de Uma Nota Só"  – 2 6. "É Luxo Só" – 2 7. "Bahia" (aka 'Baia') – 2 Total - 14 Average - 2.00

Nothing experimental about this jazz album. Laid back ready listening

Not really my thing but it was nice enough

It's alright, don't think I'll go back to it

I was on holiday recently and this kind of music was playing by the pool in the hotel constantly and honestly, i've had enough.

It's a jazz album I'd struggle to distinguish from thousands of other jazz albums

Samba is really not particularly conducive to jazz

that shit sucked listened to pink tape by lil uzi and nettspend instead

Ok Jazz

Ya like jazz? *wink Seems like what you would play for the end credits of Monsters inc.

Not a huge fan of this type of music. The album felt somewhat repetitive. While the jazz feel of the album was great the fast paced nature of the songs felt out of place

Not a genre I'm into, but I tried to get into it. I failed

Just good elevator jazz. Not much more to say here.

Stan Getz- Jazz Samba Before listening: So far, the stuff I would find in the “World Music” section has been great. Excited to hear what happens on this album. Desafinado Samba Dees Days O Pato Samba Triste- kind of sultry, the guitar is super faint in the back Samba De Uma Nota So- a little mystery to this song. All of it sounds like it is from a sixties movie about spies. E Luxo So- a little faster than the other songs on the album- nice alto sax work, but certainly not Coltrane Baia- is this a refrain from this first song? I don't mean that in a bad way- it just seems like it would link up the album well. After listening- I try to give all these albums at least two listens, aside from the ones I have already listened to 100 times. But so far, I’m not enjoying it. It’s a classic “I respect the musicianship, but I don’t love the music.” This is the epitome of “smooth jazz” and “elevator music”. I promise I kept an open mind about it, but It just didn’t move me. Saxophones, guitars and something like a maraca do a ton of work on this album

Talented musicians but it veers too far into easy listening and it ends up kind of dull and drab. Plus by all accounts, Stan Getz was a miserable git.

I like a bit of Samba I thought, Getz/Gilberto is a favourite of mine but this didn't grab me at all really. It felt to wishy washy.

decent jazz

Would be nice as background music in a Latin bar or restaurant but not much else for me

I dunno, put it on at your next fancy party.

Different style of music for me

In a nutshell: kicking off a craze. Thought I'd like this because I liked Getz's collaboration with João Gilberto (Getz/Gilberto). I just thought it was just okay. But it would be an adequate entry point for the genre. Overall: 4/10

Felt like I was on hold in an elevator for half an hour.

Meh, jazzy backgroundmusic

It was fine

I mean it's fine, it just doesn't occupy any space in my mind. bossa nova is too agreeable for me to care

Interesting tunes, but not my style

Jazz! Jazz? Ja√z. J@§§•

Far better than any prior jazz or samba entries. That isn't saying much since the bar is set so low but I found myself actually enjoying parts of this. 30 minutes was about all that was necessary as the songs all start to sound the same after a bit. It can work as a pleasant background piece if you need something to fill the silence I guess. 1.88 stars

Reflects an atmosphere but wouldn't listen to normally.

This was definitely not my taste

But too sax

Just can't get into it

Pretty chill but also boring, each song sounds the same.

Nice chill samba-y jazzy vibes. Sometimes sounds a bit like garden centre music lol. Is this really one of the albums I MUST hear??

Can't claim to have loved this. Was not in the right environment, so it sort of began to wash over me. At it's best it sounded like a Pixar soundtrack, which is definitely a compliment. Not that eager to listen again though. 2 stars.

Jazz for White people at a Key Party.

My first entirely instrumental album. It's fine, but forgettable. I put it on and kind of just tuned it out. I wouldn't rush to turn it off, but I don't care if I never hear it again.

I guess jazz is kinda lost on me. This just hits like elevator music and I think I'd prefer silence.

Sure fine on drive home

it was just jazz

Not a fan of this album

1. dezafinado - 2.5 2. zamba - 1.5 3. pato - 1 4. trizte - 2 5. nota - 1.5 6. luzo - 1 7. bahia - 1

Sounds good. Not a huge fan of bossanova but I didn’t hate it. Don’t really have a favorite song. Wouldn’t listen to it again due to not having a vibe for that.

Track one: ooh-lah-lah. Very luxurious. Gives me fancy hotel lobby music vibes. Apparently this is a samba-jazz, bossa nova, and cool jazz album according to rym. I've known about bossa Nova for quite some time, but I've never had the chance to give it a listen, so I guess today is finally the day! Just finished listening to the album, and I'd give it a 2 out of 5. None of the tracks stood out to me, and I found it rather boring.

Not to my taste. I'm sure that the artists are very talented, but this doesn't interest me. A 2.

I was in a bit of a mood and I didn't hate this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leEQ3nz8O-I

It all sounds the same. Better than other jazz albums though.

I usually love jazz but this was soooo boring. 2 stars though, just because I can at least recognize the talent.

Desafinado

Every track sounded the same. Not my thing

Pretty sure the hold music at my work is more exciting and groundbreaking than this. It’s not terrible; it’s just boring and forgettable. My life isn’t worse for having listened to this, but it’s also not better. Definitely don’t think I need to hear this before I die.

Kinda boring aside from the Latin rhythms. Miles did it better on sketches of Spain

Well that was…OK. For lift music. There wasn’t a track on this album that couldn’t have been done better by Ska Cubano.

Jazz Samba Encore clears

Musak-jazz with very little bite. Sits in the background but does not mean to be ambient. A weak piece of cool jazz. 2/5

Ok, but not inspiring. I might re-listen later on. 2 stars.

Not bad. Jazz is just not for me.

Not for me

It was fine if you like that sort of thing.

I think it’s the perfect length for an album like this, it’s nice and concise and the playing is good. That being said it’s not for me I just feel instrumental music is much harder on attention spans than music where you can relate to the lyrics. I think for me it’s a high 2/5

Eh, jazz just isn't me

This album was released for our listening pleasure on October 15th. A great day for the Sienko family. Happy birthday, boy. Can't wait to have beer soon. Stan has a shit load of albums. Pretty impressive, but this isn't really anything I enjoy. It was decent and a helluva lot better than that phuggen Yes album. 2

2.5 Two American jazz musicians went down South, borrowed a newfound genre from the locals to bring back to the States, and did it as okay as possible. Come on guys, where’s the excitement here? I’m not really sure what their mission was with this album, but it left me without really feeling anything - it just kind of existed around me for the duration of my listening. It almost felt like I was sitting in a waiting room or on hold to speak with customer service, which is kind of a shame given how much fun samba music is known to be. Don’t have much else to say on this one - this is a really forgettable listen.

Music for guys who say 'broads'. It does make me want to plan a heist in an art deco hotel lobby.

Elevator music

I’m pretty sure this is the best bossa nova album I’ve ever listened to and I’m also pretty sure that’s a title that is never at risk of being challenged too hard.

Not much to say, it was ok, nothing wrong with Bossanova but for me it just feels like background music.

Stan Getz is too talented of a musician to receive only 2 stars, but this just isn't the type of music I like to actively listen to. In the background of a dinner party? I'm vibing. And Bahia was nice. But otherwise, not my thing.

Not my cup of tea, but the story makes it more palpable.

Great grooves that definitely wash over you. Seems perfect for a dinner party with people you don’t know very well.

Men trist.

I’ve come to realise I don’t enjoy listening to Jazz as much as I’d wanted to be

Fine but a little boring. 2/5

Latin rhythms failed to overcome the overall jazzy sound on this. Not a fan of the jazziness at all.

136/1001 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑

Felt like a 33 minute long elevator ride.

It's samba!!!!

Is it a bad listen? Not really. Doesn't feel like there is much substance. Again, it's one of those "elevator music" type albums. 2.5/5

Kinda boring favourite samba Dee’s days

Another bossa nova album - it is easy to recognize its quality and I appreciate the jazz elements, but ultimately this album is not for me.

Jazz 2/5 for me

Fine but doesn't really do anything for me. Background tunes. Listened to: at home.

It’s exactly what I expected it to be.

meh. 33 minutes is a good length for this album

Not an album I'm familiar with. I'm usually a bigger fan of more energetic jazz, and this has been very relaxed. Given it's called 'Jazz Samba' I don't expect it to pick up too much but let's see. This is decent background music but there are other jazz albums I would prefer to listen to than this. 2/5

The title of this album led me to expect something livelier. I suppose this is fine for background dinner music, but it left me wanting more.

just a jazz album

Thought it just sounded like "the" bossa nova sound, I guess this is where it comes from lol. Was surprised and unsurprised to recognize some excerpts. Big props to the musicianship from everyone. Love the title charlie byrd gave his one song: "Somba Dees Days." For being recorded in a church, it's got super clean/tight recordings and a very pleasant mix. 2 stars for musicianship and production.

Ok music

Good elevator music

It’s jazz, alright.

I usually don't like jazz, but this is bossa nova, samba-jazz and it's not too bad. The opening track "Desafinado" is a song that I've heard before, as is "Samba de Uma Nota Só" - probably in an elevator or hotel bar somewhere. After a while, all the tracks begin to sound the same to me.

Best song: Desafinado Vibes: Upbeat/offbeat Brazilian trumpet jazz

This was ok. Not bad, but not really my thing. 2/5

Fine Not my thing Will never listen again

It’s okay for elevator music

This veers from sounding like nice background restaurant music to ‘is this from arrested development’ from track to track

Fine in the background, but I wouldn't choose to listen to it

Not what I was expecting. I normally like instrumental when it’s classical or rock.

Just not my kind of thing. Suitable background music for a barbecue, if I didn't really want to pay attention to it. Other than that it's tedious

Jazz with Latin influence. Slow but not as nice a smooth jazz. I prefer more chaotic jazz. This was pretty boring. Feels more like elevator music.

Passabler Samba-Jazz für den Fahrstuhl.

Is this the soundtrack to better call saul... Every song fits perfectly into a scene where Jimmy and Kim are mustering up a devious plan to destroy Howard 2.5 / 5

Pleasant but not that engaging

I'm not a fan of Jazz at all, so don't trust me here. I did find it more bearable than some Jazz, so 2 instead of 1 stars :)

Elevator music 4/10

It's fine background music, but it doesn't really do a lot for me. I mean, Samba is ridiculed by the jazzman in La La Land, so how can I, a non jazzman, take this genre seriously? Wouldn't ever mind if it's playing in the background, but I also wouldn't ever seek it out again.

I have not heard this album since I’m not very into the jazz scene. Most of the songs sounded the same so none stood out to me. I could listen again as background music but it doesn’t really do anything for me.

Lovely dinner music

This is one where I want to find a copy of the book and find out what about it makes it an album you should hear before you die. In a genre that I would describe as "fancy hotel lobby music" or "tv/movie incidental music," is this particularly exemplary? was there special drama in its recording? I enjoyed it, but it's not immediately clear to me why I needed to hear it before I die.

This would have been bland but fine background listening except that saxophone really needed to dial it back

not a big fan of jazz unfortunately

Glorified elevator music.

Thought I'd like this when it started, but realised I'd stopped paying attention part way through. Nice background music.

Felt like I was in an elevator or shopping centre, it was very ambient gentle jazz! Didn't really do it for me but it had a nice chilled vibe!

Not my thing, but some songs were nice background music

I appreciate the musicianship, but it’s just not my jam. E Luxo So was my favourite track

Lives up to it's name. Some catchy tunes.

Like being immersed in your own adult film from the 1970’s…

So this is a bossa nova album, but a bit more jazzy than the others we've had. Like basically all the others, it's a nice enough listen but no more than that. 2/5.

Too. Much. Bossa Nova.

Jazz, just jazz. I'm not the Droid it's looking for. ALTHOUGH shoutout to my jazz history professor in JuCo for introducing these 2 names that I'm not a fan of

Pleasant background music but not my first choice

Kezual lounge music, previse neutralno da bih imao odnos.

neutral. sounded a bit boring i feel. like cafe music. unabrasive but i dont see myself seeking this out. im sure theres historical significance

Enjoyed this more than the Thelonious monk album we just had, but as always, jazz isn't my thing. Completely inoffensive, just not that exciting either. Much preferred the previous Gretz album so this is getting a 2

Very Hotel Lobby.

Nothing special, but decent background music. 2/5

Really wanted to like it but nothing stood out

Not bad, just not for me!

Not quite my thing but a couple of tracks were enjoyable and I can appreciate the talent. Best song - Samba Dees Days

Good album but not my genre

Was alright but pretty boring, even for jazz.

It was OK a little generic

Jazzy instrumental album again so I found it a little boring

Nice background music 🎷

Tämä on mitä albumin nimi lupaa. Ihan kiva. Liian smooth mulle. Hieno kansi.

truth be told lots of jazz, lots of samba

Easy listening. Nothing to write home about.

Never manages to be anything other than background music

Lift music

p57. 1962. 2.5 stars. Jazz/samba crossover, so wrong audience. Badly dated, close your eyes and you can smell the cigarette smoke and pineapple and cheese on sticks from a million pre-Beatles cocktail parties. Perfectly acceptable, just not my thing. "Nice" - The Fast Show

Elevator music

# 13 - Zingy; Good listening music.

Just sounds like boring video game background music to me. It's not my genre

Not really my sort of thing. I've enjoyed jazz before, but it's generally been on the more avant-garde side of things. I can tell its well done, but it just doesn't do anything for me

Background music to enjoy a drink more than anything really

Not for me thank you. Appreciate the talent in this inane tootling, but really not my thing. Jazz, innit.

Not bad but elevator music all the same.

Should hit my taste in theory, more like elevator music in practice

i have heard desafinado many times it is inspired and superb i remembered the rest of this record as being rather uninspired muzac, i was right

eezzz like uhhh a nothing album. goez nowhere waffles extensively. i really want to be cool and like this but its kind of nothing

OK, so it's samba music. So what? Why is this special?

I will never criticize jazz considering it involves people playing instruments which is more than what a lot of artists can say these days. But I don’t want to listen to 40 straight minutes of it.

I love albums that are just named their genre. Can’t wait to listen to “Alt Rock” and “Rap”. Short review today. I’m not really into Samba Deez Days, but it was fine. I mean, those guys are obviously talented, but I feel like the genre has been tarnished over the years bc of how much it gets made fun of for being in elevators, lobbies, etc. Surprisingly, I don’t listen to a lot of jazz or jazz variations. So will NOT be entering into the rotation

Not bad, but this is background music for me, and doesn't really hold my attention.

I put it on. It was smooth and jazzy. I didn't really notice when one song finished and the next started. I also didn't notice when I'd got to the end and it started again from the beginning.

Song all sounded the same

Yep, this is jazz.

It's not you, it's me One day I'll learn to appreciate jazz. not today though

Not bad, but not really interesting. Seemed like some interesting background music, but not terribly interesting.

Living in Brazil I have become tired of Samba, which I never liked very much to start with. Then to put together the concept of Jazz (free form expression in music) with Samba (heavily defined rhythm and chord progressions) seems to be a recipe for disaster. In its favour is the fact that it is being played by two consumate musicians. Having heard it through I was left unmoved. Much more Samba than Jazz. Give it credit for being from 1962, so it was probably one of the first recordings to expose the Northern hemisphere to Samba. That alone makes it important.

Niiice

It was alright but can’t say I was overwhelmed so a tough 2*

Quite dull.

It's probably above average jazz. But it makes me feel like I'm trapped in a video game startup screen

Gonna be honest this music just made me miss playing The Sims.

A very relaxing and summary bossa-nova/samba album with a flair of jazz. The title of the albums covers what to expect. But with the exception of the opening song, it never gets exciting, it never peaks. It's very decent, but it's a watered down version of authenticity.

Didn’t mind this. A happy album to me through the day but there was no feeling of discovering a ‘hidden gem’. Was kind of what I expected it to be from the title.

Pleasant, but a little Mike Flowers Pops.

Inoffensive and easy to listen to as background music. Luckily I listened while I was weeding the courtyard or I likely would have dozed off. At least it wasn’t skronky jazz.

Remember Christopher Samba?

Jazz! Nice! Lounge music. Cocktail bar music. Howard Moon. Not my bag baby blah, bah, blah. The same review as I have written for every other jazz album on this list.

jazz is not in any way my favourite. i don’t hate but i don’t love. i like it but it’s just boring after awhile.

I guess i'd love that if I were in an elevator or hanging out with Bosch...

boring. 2/5

The album is just kinda there. I didn't hate it. It wasn't the worst jazz album and better than some of the others on this list. Relatively short. Nothing about it is noteworthy. No need to revisit.

This album lives up to its name. Stan is a good jazz saxophonist and Charlie is good at Samba guitar. Two white guys playing Latin music. It's fine.

It's ok

This is probably going to seem hypocritical if you look at some of my other reviews, but does an album really need to included if it popularized a genre? Nobody needs to listen to bossa nova before they die. Sorry to all the tenor sax enthusiasts out there. Best track: Desafinado

😕jazz

Not as good as some of the previous jazz albums on this list. Maybe a little too heavy on the jazz clarinet

This is one of the first bossa nova albums released in the US, and started this genre's frenzy in the country. Bossa nova is a style of samba from South America. This album was entirely instrumental, but that didn't affect its quality. Samba music is based on the instruments more than lyrics. The album was a great listen and makes for a relaxing soundtrack to most activities. May have to keep an ear tuned for other bossa nova music in the future.

It’s fine. Sounds like music that would be playing in a mall or dept store or restaurant. I can see why people who like this kind of music would like this, but too bland for me

it's not bad or good. it's just background. Like what they playing in lobbies they don't want you to stand around in.

Another Jazz album from the early 60s. It's probably great, and I wasn't bored with it on, but it's absolutly not my scene. I didn't hate it though, saving 1 stars for albums I hate.

Lively samba, but not really my bag

Meh it's jazz

Jazz Samba! I like it. Might relisten at some point.

Inoffensive bossa nova

Nice but not really my thing

Sounds like elevator music

Elevator music. 6.8/10

Painfully dull, but tolerable for the 35mins or so this record lasts

Easy jazz.. not bad

Background noise.

I hope Stan Getz fucked.

fine for background music but not my jam

Meh, baby jazz

Easy listening. Not for every moment, but not bad. Even if you don't like jazz and bossanova

Een 2 voor de moeite.

fine, nothing special

Ok as jazz goes. Pretty inoffensive but nothing bad about it

Bossa nova. Kind of old-school swanky, but hard to listen to.

In. Gerr

Nice but not for me

felt like i was in a classy hotel or in a pixar movie

'twas fiiiiiine. Makes me think of elevator music or that scene in Mr. & Mrs. Smith where they're in the final shootout in the department store. Didn't love.

Fine to have on in the background when reading or cooking of something. A little too douchy for me to ever actively choose to listen to.

Very pleasant, but I am not very literate in Bossa Nova. Stan Getz's sax sound is so soft and warm like a hug. It was difficulty for me to not let this become background music (I blame Muzak).

I'm not sure if I'm relaxing on a beach, drink in hand, on a dusky evening, or if I'm travelling up in a 33 minute long elevator ride. It's pleasant enough background music, but it is definitely for the background.

Kevyttä taustamusaa. Yksi läpisoitto riitti.

Its a jazz album

Who thought that I had to listen to an album of elevator music before I died?

do not like jazz

This music reminds of all the boring parties I had to attend with my parents as a little boy.

I need some lyrics man

I'm getting a bit fed up with the jazz on here. It's all the same. Its easy listening and not unpleasant, but so dated and boring it beyond belief. The compiler seems to be of the opinion that it has to be brass or woodwind lead. Even the Soft Machine album they used was like that, instead of using Bundles or Softs. They need to show how it has been expanded rather than just repeating the same old tripe.

'Do, do do, do, do do, dah d dah'. Yawn. How did I manage to keep my concentration on this? I didn't. I've decided to book an appointment with the doctor to see if I have ADHD. I'm bound to have it. I refuse to take accountability for my behaviour. In this day and age it can't be any other reason. Twenty years ago I could have got away with saying it was just shit.

It’s jazz, I don’t really like jazz.

elevator music

no, just jazzy jazz

non mi piace il jazz

Boring

A scant few sleepy, uninteresting bossa nova and samba jazz tracks. Reminiscent of the Rick and Morty "Human Music" bit and would play well as window dressing in a mediocre Mediterranean restaurant. My primary intent for listening to music is to feel and connect to a piece of art, hopefully it has something to say. When I listen to this, the experience I get is devoid of substance or interest. It's inoffensive and bland. Not for me.

no thanks, the minute the drum brush starts Im out.

The second samba jazz album on this list is music for playing in the background at restaurants.

Not a fab

Not a huge fan of jazz

BORING

I asked chat gpt to write me some elevator music and the results were (a) dull and (b) indistinguishable from this album. I'm sure some of the musicians are talented, but i don't get any sense of breakthrough, originality, and certainly no thrills. An hour life that i will never get back. Helps to convince me that jazz and me are not made for each other

Track 1 thoughts: I tend not to love Jazz or Samba… but maybe I like JazzSamba! Track 2 thoughts: well maybe I don’t? The rest: This is spiraling me into a poisonous foul mood and I have no idea why.

more background music

How the fuck did Stan Getz get 3 albums on this list SO FAR? I'm only at like 160 and I have had 3 of these elevator music albums come my way already. I got the gist of it after 2 songs from the first one.

You know I hate jazz, but at least this had a beat and somewhat of a melody. It wasn’t discordant notes all over the place and the songs didn’t last a million years.

1/5 not for me

2 - TERRIBLE

Best Song: O Pato This is really not my thing at all. I am sure it is fine if you are into it but I'm not. 1/5.

Just not my thing - shit's got me sleepy at my desk ): 1/5 stars.

Hated it. To me this was the worst kind of musak hold music played whilst waiting for a dental appointment. Bland, limited dynamism and just all so corny. One of the first that I’ve listened to that I couldn’t wait to finish which was blissfully relatively short.

I won’t suffer through one more fucking jazz album.

It's just elevator music, every song sounds the same.

Anything jazz can get in the bin.
