Reviews (page 8 of 13)
Fantastic R&B album. It Ain’t Fun No More is my favorite track on the album
Fully expected this to be a bit cheesy, but it was surprisingly smooth and enjoyable the whole way through. The title track towers over everything else here, but some of the lesser known tracks were quite good too. Incredible singing, but the production was a bit too raw perhaps, made it sound like a much older album than it is.
Excellent jams
What a creamy voice. Really holds the weaker songs together. Great Soul Classic ! 3.7
This was one of the first soul albums I've listened to, so I don't really feel qualified to review it. However, it was a great listen, bringing a nice atmosphere and mood with every song on it. Definitely something I will compare the upcoming soul albums to.
Before today, I'd never heard of Al Green before. He is a R&B/soul singer, similar to Curtis Mayfield, or Sam Cooke. Al's life started out a bit crazy, as is the case with a lot of singers strangely. His family were strong Christians, and he got his start singing gospel music in church as a kid. He was kicked out of the house at a young age because he was caught listening to Elvis. He was, perhaps, drawn to popular music because it was taboo to his religious family. Al went on to begin his music career. This album is his fourth studio recording. His style of almost whispering into the mic, and moving the microphone close then far away from his mouth to almost manually layer his vocals was amazing. His music is super catchy! The drummer on this album was from Booker T and the M.G.'s. (Al Jackson Jr.). A few years after this album was released, Al suffered a tragedy in the form of his wife throwing hot grits on him while he was soaking in the tub, then shooting and killing herself before he could intervene. That was one of the events that transpired, which drove Al back to religion. He is now a preacher of a church in Memphis. This was a teriffic album. It would be perfect mood music for a weekend morning, or a dinner party. Favourite songs: It Ain't No Fun To Me, What is This Feeling, Let's Stay Together, So You're Leaving, La-La For You, Old Time Lovin' Least favourite songs: I've Never Found A Girl 4/5
Smoooth
Wow!
Love his voice. The music doesn't always hit perfecy notes for me, but it's overall very good. 4.5
Soul. Un megahit. Un 4.
"Let's Stay Together" is obviously a classic, the rest of this is pretty great, and I like the way it didn't outstay its welcome.
Smooth af 4/5
Emotional. You can really feel the pain or the love in his singing. The production is good for its time, but it felt a little too quiet. I did fall in love with a few songs on this album. I definitely understand why Al Green was/is so loved.
Al Green a legend for real
this tastes like hot bread straight out of the oven
Such a vibe for driving down a sunny road in the dessert.
This is a great album. Have no idea why my parents never introduced me to it. The soul craze of the 70s is something I have personally been trying to get back into. Picks: Title Track, so you're leaving, what is this feeling
al green is something else baby. i wanna give this a five but the deep cuts weren’t as good as expected
I'm not sure why, but I liked this very much. Some songs you recognize instantly, but mostly all of it held very high bar I guess. Compared to some other albums from around the same time, this didn't sound very dated at all and held up very good I'd say!
this cover is so good, I love that al green is in green slime letters and the face he's making is kind of silly. this reminds me of Christmas because growing up we had a couple Christmas albums that I think he sang on. really good working music, nothing stood out super crazy which is a pro and a con. very very cozy
Lovely
The title track is obviously exceptional. The rest is also really good, but it never gets to that level again sadly. Still fun listen.
I love Al Green. Not every song on here was great, but still pretty damn good.
Smooth as the day is long.
Great R&B record with a beautiful voice. I love the horn parts as well.
Started out strong but it's tough to beat a genre classic. Still excellent.
Sometimes some good soul music can just feel so good. I loved every song on this album but I wish it went on longer.
I love Al Green but the title track is pulling a lot of the weight. It's GREAT stuff but doesn't quite hit 5 stars for me.
Another classic
Vibes
Beautiful
Quite good
Absolute banger
Fallegt grúv, alltaf hægt að hlusta á Al.
Legendarily soulful.
Smooth listen all the way though.
I need to listen to this a few more times. It sounds perfect, but like a lot of soul records of that era, it glides part me, leaving babyish tasting notes like "smooth", "incredible musicianship", and "quintessential", but I'm damned if I can remember most of the songs, even on third listen. I like it, the title track is outstanding, it just hasn't stuck with me yet, which may be more my problem. FOUR
So pleasant 4/5
Is n vibe
Beautiful album. I was familiar with a couple of the singles, but hadn't given the whole album a listen. It's thoughtful, sad, but also is just a warm record through and through.
Lovely
The only song I already knew when I started this album was the opening track, "Let's Stay Together." Of course, I already loved that song - it's iconic, a classic, it's a fucking jam. I expected that at the very least, the album would be pleasant to listen to. This album exceeded my expectations. I liked the vast majority of the songs, and though there were some I didn't enjoy as much, there were no true "low points" for me. "Let's Stay Together" is probably my favorite track, but I also loved "I've Never Found a Girl," "So You're Leaving," "It Ain't No Fun to Me," and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." The album as a whole is very good, but I think those are the only songs I'll be likely to revisit.
A smooth and funky 35 minute experience. Good stuff.
Smooth. Great album.
Great! Powerful and punchy soul with enough variety to keep things interesting throughout the album.
Nice album on a sunny day. The lyrics Arent always that sunny and there is much love sadnesss. But the happy music covers this well. Nice how the instruments blend together and how the guitars easy switch from arpeggio to groovy rythms. Thats especially the case in old time loving and on how to mend a broken heart. Next to the hit lets stay together and it aint fun to me are these my favourite songs on this record.
'Let's Stay Together' is the best track on this album (by far). But I also liked 'La-La for You' and the cover of 'How Can You Mend a Broken Heart'. Overall a really nice album. 4/5
Lovey dovey, but sometimes the world needs that.
Nice, pleasant soul music
Music to chill to.
Good album! Al lot covered songs
Soul, gospel, opens with a banger and its pretty solid the whole way through
This album has brought soul into a new light for me. The rhythms and instrumentals are so clean, I wish I had listened to this before.
No stand out song but the groove and feel of the album is great. Pure emotion and fun. Soothing to have in the background to enjoy the vibe versus a song in itself.
If this is a four, what am I saving fives for?
Not a genre I’m particularly keen on, but for some reason this record just did it for me. It’s as though the meandering structures of soul have been streamlined into a seriously infectious formula of funky soul pop. Can’t comment on too much else really. As an album, it’s a winner.
Classic soul sound. Very smooth and easy to listen to. The sound is defined by warm horns, soulful rotary organs, dry electric guitars and frequent use of dominant seventh chords. Lyrics are concerned with blue-eyed infatuation, longing and reconciliation.
Fantastic. Soulful, chill, and classic.
Baby making music
First dance at my wedding, nuff said. The man is a soul legend
The open of this album was delightful and soulful. It kind of tapered near the end, but I still very much enjoyed it!
catchy bitch
I think you're gonna find, when all this shit is over and done, I think you're gonna find yourself one smilin' motherfucker.
ja lekker albumpje wel
Musste ich mehrmals hören und weiß es eigentlich immer noch nicht. Der Titelsong ist schon sehr geil, der Rest durchwachsener.
Excellent album. Previously I think I had only ever heard the title track before, but this album has some beautiful tracks.
Great cool sound - very mellow. A couple of great songs and the rest good for chilling out.
Ends with exceptional tenderness, fills out the runtime with easily-standard soul. Not a week track, I think.
Al Green’s voice is incredibly sexual and whimpering at once. He savours and laments love so convincingly from line to line you’d swear the rise and fall of his rasp match the convulsions of your heart at the turns of your own love life. Leading with the classic title track, on this album he doesn’t reach the screeching muscularity of ‘Al Green Gets Next to You’ the year previous or the immaculate perfection of ‘I’m Still in Love With You’ 9 months later but he nevertheless unleashes an enjoyable set for the heartstrings of the masses.
So groovy and good Fantastic album great vocals
His voice is kind of sexy.
Banger.
"Let's Stay Together" is a hell of an opening song - unfortunately it kind of peaks there. The other songs are pretty solid but don't really reach the height of the first track.
Smooth as butter.
Pretty good
An enjoyable, classic soul album, full of great songs. Honestly, if you're going to go for one Al Green album, I'd recommend a greatest hits package, because so many of his best songs are scattered across about half a dozen albums. But this was a pleasure to hear. The star track here is obviously "Let's Stay Together," and nothing else on the album comes close to measuring up to it. But Green brings charisma, depth and feeling to every song, and his band is top notch. Fave Songs: Let's Stay Together, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, La-La for You, I've Never Found a Girl (Who Loves Me Like You Do), So You're Leaving, Old Time Lovin
8,5/10
Smooth as butter and packed with genuine feeling. The cover of “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” is top-notch.
right in the feels 😔
Certified National Recording Registry banger

la soul est mon top genre parce que c'est jamais désagréable j'imagine ?
Funky and soulful and undoubtedly deserving of a spot on this list. However it was a little slow and not particularly something I could vibe with. Favourite: It Ain't No Fun to Me
The instrumentation sounds incredibly good for its time.
The dynamic range here is amazing. This was pre "sound wars" so every instrument gets a lot or room to breath. These songs are truly classics and while this is not my style of music, this album fit's this list perfectly.
Ok
Pretty easy to listen to. I could see myself relaxing and having this on
Yes!
4.5
Classic and classy, and far more variety of tone and texture than I would have expected.
loved it
One of the best soul albums, if not the best of all time. Everything blends together so well. It’s incredible. 4/5
Beautiful voice, very soulful vibe with a lot of passion. Production at top tier. Carries a constant theme of separation and wanting your partner back. Classic songs that I didn’t know were on this until I listened. Overall great listen, Favourite song: How can you mend a broken heart? Least Favourite: La-La for you
What a voice. For some reason when I'm cleaning or working around the house I like to put on some Al Green or Sam Cooke and just vibe away. Great album from a very very talented man.
Al Green - great voice, great vibes, but not my type of songs here. It’s a three for the music but Al’s vocals bump it to a four.
34 minutes, that’s all he needs. Good stuff.
It’s a high 4
Funky!
9/10
Let’s stay together: very funky. Just a really chill song that, if it was written about me, I would unconditionally love that person forever. Tells a very cool story and the combination of instruments is very cool and I love the drums. 3/5 La-la for you: I feel for al here. Starts to go bad. But still feels good!!! That piano is very cool and one thing that is repeated throughout this album is the guitar! I just don’t know what it’s going to do. A very good soul song with a continuing story. 3/5 So you’re leaving me today: just a bit of gospel music is what I needed in my life. This song carries on the smoothness of the previous tracks but the vocals, I believe, have been taken to another level. Someone just answer to why she’s leaving him!!!! 3/5 What is this feeling: so the story continues! This track is exceptionally smooth. The initial pace of the drums really do set how laid back it is. I dunno if it’s a trumpet but it just gently breezes through segments in this song and is just lifted by the backing vocals. Very cool. 4/5 Old Time Lovin: the backing vocals really do make this song. The guitar as well really sweeps on nicely with this song. It just carries on the gentle breeze in autumn sweeping the leaves along the ground as an old school caveat glides past you and the Walkman hangs loosely from your pockets! 3/5 I’ve never found a girl: now this is what the album needed! An upbeat-ish song. For me soul music gets repetitive so a song like this after a few of the same really does keep the album listenable and enjoyable. All the instruments lend themselves greatly to his voice but it’s nothing new. In isolation it’s another great song. However, in terms of the album it doesn’t really add much. 2/5 How can you mend a broken heart: the most melancholy song on here but one of the best. You lift and float to another place! The backing vocals really do add a whole new level to this song!It picks up towards the end and his becomes really emotive!! 4/5 Judy: He’s done it!!! He has found someone! A good song and an upbeat one but I don’t think it does anything new! 2/5 It ain’t no fun to me: what a funky way to end off a brilliant and possibly best album yet!!! It’s good and funky and just really Is a topper to a great album! 3/5 Total:3/5
4.75
Classic and loveable album with only a few songs but consistent feel of what Al green was most known for and his unique lyrics but the only fault was the “La La La La “ parts felt like filler for the song
Very good
Good
The title track is a stand out classic, enjoyed the rest of the album
Not my style but very good.
Good short album. Some nice tracks.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Let's Stay Together (1) 2 - Old Time Lovin' (4) 3 - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (6)
🔥🔥🔥 How many kids born in the 1960s were conceived to this???
Ihan sairaan kova klassikko! 4/5
Cute, chill good vibes
I saw Al Green at a free concert in the Sydney Domain in January 2010. After being told the place was full & being turned away, I crawled under a rope partition & ran into the crowd. I was not gonna miss Reverand Al. And he delivered. I reckon the majority of the crowd had been introduced to Al Green by the inclusion of this album’s title track in Tarentino’s Pulp Fiction. In the wake of that I saw him perform the song on Letterman in early 1995. He was outstanding - so relaxed, laid back & in the groove that he & producer Willie Mitchell had created decades earlier. His sound is unique. This album is not full of hit singles but it flows. It immerses the listener. The oddity on the record is his cover of The Bee Gees’ How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (the only time I saw them was not far from the Domain, also outdoors in the old Showground in January 1972). This song had toppedgthe American charts in 1970. What Green does with the track on this album is remarkable. He totally slows it down and he makes it his own. I really liked the original, but Al gives it soul & takes it to a whole new emotional level. My copy of this LP is on Motown, who distributed Hi Records back-catalogue in the 80’s. Hardly surprising. It’s a great listen.
nice
Solid 4/5
Great album, chilled morning misoc
Cool and chill
I can recognize greatness, even if it's not for me.
Leuk
4/5. Al is king. Great stuff.
Smooth, soulful, and sexy.
Obviously a very funky record, but also mellows you out like a deflated marshmallow. It's sweet on the ears and loud when it wants to be too. I think the only criticism I can give is that the album cover is really bad. That awful wall texture and generic drippy text do not match the music at all.
Klasik. Kvalitetan je album. Mozda si ga ne bi ovak pustila ali ga cijenim
Soul heaven! I bopped my head throughout, and I’ve got two of those songs on steady replay.
God we've had some bangers recently. This is just the epitome of cool, every song is so chill and beautiful, and Al's voice is amazing. Title track and the BeeGees cover steal the show, the rest is solid if not as great
A really smooth, breezy, yet groovy soul album. 'Lets Stay Together' is instantly recognizable, 'La La For You' has some nice chord changes but a lot of the songs are fairly average. I like the production which is quite bottom heavy (at times you can barely hear the guitars) focusing on the mellow grooves and brass. Of course Green's vocals are superb throughout, bumping up the overall quality a notch or two. It's likeable and l can totally appreciate it's classic album status.
Easy enough to listen to, but there's a quality that lifts it beyond easy listening.
Hugely iconic soul, one of these albums where it’s hard to credit so many classic songs cheek to jowl. Green’s biography suggests a pretty problematical individual, but it seems I’ve decided to put such considerations to the side for this project.
Smooth and soulful.
Lovely. Shit cover though.
‘Let’s Stay Together’ is that perfect balance of ballads and RnB funk grooves, effortlessly shifting between tempos without missing a beat. It’s full of tight musicianship and Al Green has a serious singing voice, full of emotion and range. It’s just a super solid soul album all round.
A nice start to the week.
Love al green!
At first I only recognized and fully listened to the title track since that’s the popular one, but the rest of the album is really great soul music too. At first I only had it on in the background but relistening to it in the car alone made it much better
Good chill soul album. Liked it.
Dayum, Reverend Al. Al Green's voice is instantly recognizable and iconic. Let's Stay Together is an amazing song kicking off an amazing album. The Memphis 70s sound is so prevalent on here. The album includes the Reverend's cover of the Bee Gee's 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart' which, may be better than the original, it's very close. How many cover songs can do that? 4/5.
Heerlijk album met enorm fijne stem
Totes classic
The title track is one of my favorite love songs, always reminds me of Marcellus Wallace and Butch making a deal. Other than that, great tunes for a dinner party! Highlights: Let's Stay Together, La-la for you, I've never found a girl.
Classic R&B! Love it.
Probably my favourite soul album so far. The music has a lightness of touch that feels so chilled and organic. Old Time Lovin’… *swoon*
Green has a cultured, effeminate way of establishing himself as a sex symbol, but also superior vocal skills. (7/10) FT: Let’s Stay Together, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
De grandes chansons, enregistrées avec tact par un groupe dont on sent bien la présence enthousiaste. Je mets 4 étoiles parce que l’album est un peu inégal, mais c’est toujours un régal.
First at all, let me address the elephant in the room, I cannot but remember that Pulp Fiction scene between Butch and Marcelus Wallace while listening to the first track. The rest of the album flows perfectly, it’s quite an experience definitely. Really set me in a good mood.
Beautiful, warm, sunshine soul that is extremely romantic and heartfelt. I love all the orchestral string work on this album, and Al Green's vocals are full of character. It's a joyous album centred on love
The forward influence is clear, even for those who don’t where this falls in pantheon of classic R&B. Band is tight -- a Platonic ideal as much as a point in time. Green's vocal quality seems more distinctive and extremely versatile than all-timey, perhaps too effortfully here and there.
Loved it! Some great bangers on there I'm happy to hear again and some new ones. Ultimate feel good
Delicious. Smooth and with a Soul texture that can only be one man - an easy listening classic with more than a few stand outs.
Funky, sexy, could listen all damn day Judy!
Haven't put this album on since college. I listened to it twice back to back. My faves are still the title track and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. Those strings after "I can still feel the breeze..." is one of those little magical musical moments. This album is so easy to listen to, and I just love his voice.
Intimate
Classic album, surprisingly short. A good mix of upbeat funky songs with slow melodic love songs. Lots of involvement from intsruments like the organ and strings.
Genre: Southern Soul 4/5 Al Green. One of music’s best falsettos and a perennial favorite among all ages. His sound and production was of the times, but it was his voice, calm, soothing, and soaring with enough emotion to make anybody feel, set him apart from the rest of the Soul artists at the time. The title track is one of his biggest hits and is a true gem, but the 6-minute How Can You Mend a Broken Heart is a knockout. No skips on this one, even those that are a bit more color-by-numbers. But it’s all good. It’s Al Green, man.
Good
Mostly lived up to the lead single. 8/10
8/10.
A fun listen. 8/10
Great old school RnB. Wonderful voice
Had this album on repeat all day. So smooth. Best track: Let's Stay Together
Che voce e che groove! Direi che 'Let's stay together' sia la migliore, ma anche le successive colpiscono, tramite la voce calda e emozionante. Molto sexy tutto quanto. Colpisce particolarmente 'I've never found a girl'. 'How can you mend a broken heart' introduce una nota più malinconica e lenta e suggella un ottimo album. Molto piacevole, per occasioni speciali.
The album-titled first track of Let's Stay Together is the best track by far but overall a great album from the incomparable Al Green.
12/10/2021 Today's Album: "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green - Coming directly off of listening to that terrible Tom Waits album, this album sounds like a hug. The production is already so warm and welcoming, with a booming groovy bassline and Al's subtle vocals. This beginning song is a very laid back and peaceful love song. This second song picks things up with a swinging back beat and these smooth piano lines. The production on the drums particularly is so good but everything sounds immaculate. The horns are a really nice part of this song. It almost feels like an end of movie song, like the task is completed and the heroes are happy. This song has a similar vibe to the others, but its a distinctly different feel and the hooks are completely different. Ooh that horn line in What is This Feeling is so nice. I love the groove of this song and the soft organ in the background is so nice. I like the swelling horns as well. I think the song structure is getting boring for me, but I think each of these tracks individually are great. Old Time Lovin' is a nice soft love song. It's like an instrumental that could have been done by the late Beatles with Al just being all horny over top of it lmao. I've Never Found a Girl is a nice track. I feel like these instrumentals get me really hyped up for the vocals and the vocals are always underwhelming, but I feel like it somehow works well all together. I just think I'm expecting a bit more nuance in the lyricism. The instrumentals are fantastic, though. There's a great horn solo in this song and I think it really works since Al isn't really singing much. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart has a way more straightforward song structure and I think it makes it a really nice song. Judy is sort of the same thing Al has been doing this whole album and It Ain't No Fun to me is a nice closer with a soft fade out. Overall this album is ok. Score: 7/10 Fairly good Highlights: La-La for You, What Is This Feeling, I've Never Found a Girl
Classic soul record with a unique voice! Side A is absolutely brilliant while Side B weakens slightly, but still great. Fav tracks: Let's Stay Together, La-La For You, So You're Leaving
Warm and comfy, perfect balance of background singers and main vocals. Really enjoyed listening to it.
superrrr funky and cool. enjoyed
Pretty classic
Feels very golden oldies, good to listen to.
Pure and beautiful - what is not to like?
His vocal range and ability to jump around is seriously impressive. The instrumentation does a lot to compliment it too. Soul isn't my area of expertise but I dig this.
Smooth baby making music

Classic album, well written, great vocals and musicianship.
Such a solid soul, R&B album with heavy background jazz instrumentation. Love the brass! Has a great recording of How Do You Mend a Broken Heart original to The Bee Gees. Smooth is the best way to describe Al Green’s vocals.
What a vibe!
Good Album
More grade school/ high school tunes… played all time
Great classic soul album. The title track is enough to hook me in. This slipped into the background pretty easily, but here I mean that as a compliment because it was just nice, easy listening. That meant fewer standout tracks, but still a great listen. Favorite tracks: Let's Stay Together, La-La for You, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, It Ain't No Fun to Me. Album art: Pretty ordinary portrait photo, but Al looks like a cool guy. Nice jacket. The font is kind of insane, I like that a lot. Why is his name in drippy radioactive waste font? Only Al knows. 4/5
Lovely soulful album and really enjoyed his version of 'How to mend a broken heart'. Shame he has a bad past.
The general of smooth
Loved this
Nice and smooth. Last song didn't seem to match the tone, but all good elsewhere
Great album.
I've only recently listened to his music other than the hit(s) and I've been underappreciating this guy for years.
Ooooooo yessssssss souuuuuuullll. Easy 4
7/10, lovely, very chill
This album was excellent. Green’s voice is great and the whole album is terrifically soulful and an amazing listen. Nice and concise as well
Неплохой, спокойный Слушать, когда отдыхаешь и устал им просто на расслабленном
You can call me Al. If Cee-Lo Green is the Soul Machine then who is Al? Compared to Al, Cee-Lo Green is the Tim Meadow's character from The Lady's Man. Oh-- not familiar with The Lady's Man? Search up Netflix if you want, but the real deal is on this album right here. I'm not sure of their connection, but if they are related it must be distant. Cee-Lo isn't even in the same ballpark as Al Green. Even so, Cee-Lo Green would be the guy cooking Oscar Mayer weiners at the concession stand while Al is putting the moves on his girl. Why don't they make music like Let's Stay Together anymore? This album exists in a different era. Turn it on and be transported to a different place in time. Go ahead, dim the lights, this is the stuff of late Saturday nights. Lo-fi recordings on the slow pace are great for indulgent relaxation. Simple songs, basic riffs, some backup singers, Al's high notes and songs that fade out. Oh yeah.. let's get deep, balls deep... Cee-Lo and the ladies man can Netflix and Chill. I'll keep it simple and stick with Al. ----------- REFERENCES ----------- Cee-Lo Green as the Ladies Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4fTcRViu_Y Cee-Lo Green ... I really like: Let's Stay Together So You're Leaving The rest is super chill especially La La For You Old Time Lovin How Can You Mend A Broken Heart I also like the common theme among the songs.
Great soul record with an an time great title track.
Started with al green when i started sampling back in 2015. Now im finally listening to the album that started my producer career. And its beautifull
Mmmmm buttery smooth, but it still grooves. The epitome of soul. The horns add the requisite amount of tension while the rest of the arrangements are smooth as silk. This is a great album. Did I mention how smooth it is. 4 stars
Tremendous album! Really enjoyed this! Chilled out, funky, soulful. It’s beautiful. The boy has pipes! Loved it! On the list to be bought!
Simply beautiful
Enjoyed this album more than I thought it would, it flowed well and resonated even on first listen. The mid tracks stood out - What Is this Feeling, Old Time Lovin' and I've Never Found A Girl. Left me wanting to listen to it again, incredible given it is almost 50 years old.
Legendary. Let’s stay together is a top 50 American song.
Great album, love als singing
I think Al Green was about 25 when he made this album. How does someone 25 years old write and SING this shit?
Muy buen album de soul, hermosos temas.
Relaxing as Brass!
Bastante chuloo! la primera cancion ya la concocia
Classic 70s Soul. What can go wrong.
Lots of songs that eventually became samples in famous rap songs :)
The Rev. Al Green to us common folk. Every Sunday morning in my house.
In 1999, Q magazine wrote that the album "shows him as the authentic voice of love's pain and purity on such wonders as 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?'" and that "[H]is cover of the Bee Gees' [song] took the soul ballad to new levels of artistry and refinement."
Sweet sweet lovin!
👍
It wasn't my favorite album, but it had a nice 70s groove to it. I could find myself listening to it again.
exactly what you think it is album cover is badass too
Liked it a lot, very calm and relaxing. Have only heard one song by Al Green in the past so it was very nice to hear all of these.
A phenomenal soul album from one of the genre's greats. Green has a great catchy, emotive vocal performance and its back by some really nice groovy, lush soul back drops. I especially enjoyed the brass used to elevate particular moments in this one.
Very smooth and calm songs with some funky in it, I like it, it makes you feel good and forget about your problems.
dope funky soul album Let's Stay Together: dope La-La for You: pretty cool chill song; alright So You're Leaving: good track What Is This Feeling: dope song Old Time Lovin': really good song I've Never Found a Girl: dopee How Can You Mend a Broken Heart: fine, vocal mix quality is kinda rough imo Judy: alright song It Ain't No Fun to Me: good song
Groovy and nice
Smooth listening.
Nice vibe. Short but intence. Best songs: So you're leaving and I've never found a girl & How can you mend a broken heart
How can you hear the opening horns for "Let's Stay Together" and not get pumped? Al Green's voice is so smooth, and my only complaint is that his vocals get buried in this mix and it's hard to understand what he's saying. Otherwise it's super groovy and mellow, perfect for Sunday Morning breakfast.
Smooth as fuck, and I really like how crisp the drums and guitar sound
Timeless
classic smooth soul album
Loved it. Would listen again
Klassiker, den ich wirklich gern höre!
Groovy echt tierisch
Smooth as butter. Why have I not listened to this album before? The funky, chill rhythm just burns on every track and the horns add a great layer. This one is going in my saved bucket and may even show up on vinyl in my house. I couldn't wait for the Stones album to finish and I didn't want this one to end.
I was in the mood for this today. Realized one of the main reason I like a song is whether or not I could see myself playing it for people. I would love to learn these songs and play them. Especially "It Ain't No Fun to Me" that song oozes groove and cool right from the first bass notes. And I actually felt feelings when the first horn swells of Old Time Lovin' came in. I will put this album on again and let it play in the background of my life at home.
Solid old-school soul. A classic, and one that I also like. 4/5.
Soul zoals soul moet zijn. Niet 100% m'n ding maar wel een oké album
Title song is a classic. Good soul album. Best songs: Let's Stay Together, I've Never Found a Girl & It Ain't No Fun To Me.
Enjoyed
Gran disco, suena muy natural y muy Gospel. Me gusta
not bad at all, I liked that the songs weren't super long but in this case they could've been even a bit longer
Love this. It’s impossible to sit still listening to Al Green.
Every song's a classic, every song's sound. Green's got a voice.
Muito gostoso de ouvir!
Smooth AF album all throughout. 8/10
Sensual, auténtico, puro Soul.
Fuck you, JF... it's a good album. C'mon, let's stay together, when the times are good or bad, happy or sad ❤️
Hit me with the horns! Overall, I like the mellow vibe and smooth grooves.

Pretty good soul? album. Very nice voice, and enjoyable to listle to.
Decent soul album
wonderful album to get on a relaxing sunday.
hell yeah, man. another great snapshot of its time - plus It Ain't No Fun to Me is a fantastic track, and a perfect way to close out this album.
Good stuff. What an amazing voice.
Fucking classic
Loved this! So funky and of it’s time but still holds out today. Gotta love some smooth beats and horns.
Bra soul
One of the best Motown albums
One of my all-time favorite albums .Al Green is hopeful and soulful.
I think I'm starting to get into soul.
Not as good as Al Green Explores Your Mind but still nice.
Already saved in Spotify albums. Classic album. The title track is my fav of the album. 7.5/10
Very good soul, I mean, let’s stay together is one of the best songs out there
Solid vocals. Sooth and tight R&B band. This album is a classic.
Amazing
I like it. Ole' SChool. Wasn't the best album i've ever heard.
1. Really strong, instrumentation is nice and just in general really calming. 2. Really chill guitar and synth in background. Piano really nicely combines with guitar and is good on its own. Synth and guitar remind me of the album Pacific with Hosono (first song on it I think? with the gliding up guitar/synth together). Not too fond of horns but not bad. Really loving the synth. 3. Love the bass part and tone of the bass. Guitar is nice, but not dominant. Really lets drummer shine, solid with synth too. Bass work is impressive. 4. Arpeggiated guitar and synth work is impressive. Guitar work really nice, chorus additional voices are good to hear. Love the guitar riff. *Learn this song, you'll love it* 5. Bass and guitar sound SO good. Amazing guitar work, *learn this song too*. Good jam. 6. Amazing synth, guitar, and especially bass. Really groovy. Strings are really nice. Trumpets are good. 7. Really relaxing and amazing guitar and synth. Additional singers really nice. Really nice bass tone. Love the Rhodes. 8. So strong off the start, guitar and strings beautiful. Rhodes is subtle but nice. Love it. 9. Guitar interesting and nice, tweed sound I think? Bass tone is really good and impressive. The horns are okay. Strong end to the album as a whole.
lovely, smooth, timeless
Solid!
I recognize the greatness of this album, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the other 5-stars in my collection so far. I suspect the lines between some of these is going to be inconsistent. Oh well! 4 stars.
Fantastic, smooth, let's stay together is great
So full of soul.
Not bad at all. Hip hop isn't really what I am into but I can appreciate it.
Oh this album fucks
Classic
Great soul album. Title track is obviously the hit, but quality throughout the rest of the tracks, too.

Can this website read my thoughts? I was scrolling through the entire list of albums last night, and I stumbled upon “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green and thought, “I really want to listen to this one.” So this happened. I expected something similar to the vibe of “Let’s Stay Together” and “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” which I got, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the album as a whole; in my opinion, this album could have ended after the latter track, since I didn’t see a purpose of “Judy” or “It Ain’t No Fun to Me” being there. A few tracks, though, I thought were pretty solid, and again, I could see myself listening to the album on a chill spring walk. I heard so many Marvin Gaye-esque vocals and instrumentals on this album, and it’s no wonder since they were from the same era; soul is a genre that I really enjoy listening to. However, I do agree with Marvin’s observation that Al’s falsetto range was a bit “too safe” and would probably prefer Marvin’s music over Al's. Al’s music on this album drags quite a bit with his ad-libs; you would really have to pay me to believe that “I have to keep on singing” was actually scripted because it was 99% not. Besides this, though, I found a lot of new songs that I could vibe to! I’ll probably listen to “La-La for You” or “Old Time Lovin'” once in a while, because those were the strongest instrumentally and vocally besides “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” which is just six straight minutes of beauty with its arpeggios and the instrumentals after “breeze,” oh my lord. Although I was not feeling five out of the nine tracks on the album, it’s great with both themes of love and loneliness and encapsulates the feeling of yearning well, but a little bit less than Marvin Gaye. It’s an interesting mix of love songs, definitely, but it all fits under the “Let’s Stay Together” umbrella, especially with “So You’re Leaving,” which is basically just “Let’s Stay Together” but more demanding. Nonetheless, I love Al’s vibe, and I will most definitely continue listening to him on my subway rides. 3/5
Music to swoon your crush or partner! Let's Stay Together is a HUGE intro song. Imagine this man singing I've never found a girl to you, wow!

El grone sabe cantar no?
Amazing voice and the rhythm section grooves. Not really fan of so many romantic love songs. Ending track was fun.
Al's terrific voice and the excellent arrangement is enough to bring this album back from the edge of boredom on which it undeniably wavers for a brief while.
Let’s Stay Together - 3.5/5 La-La for You - 3/5 So You’re Leaving - 3/5 What Is This Feeling - 3/5 Old Time Lovin’ - 3/5 I’ve Never Found a Girl - 3.5/5 How Can You Mend a Broken Heart - 3/5 Judy - 3/5 It Ain’t No Fun to Me - 3/5
Mooi op het randje tussen virtuositeit en inhouden waar goede soul moet zitten.
me gusta la vibra y eso lo dejaria de fondo pero la verdad es q no es mi onda se me hace repititivo y aburrido
Great album from the rev
Got kinda bored but it was pretty
Like a 6,5 its okay. Fav track: “How can you mend a broken heart”. Kinda reminds me of portisehad’s “Glory box” i think.
Inget större intryck. Visst svänger det men så ... En trea
fun to listen to -- again not exactly my cup of tea musically for an entire album, but obviously some stone cold classics in here that are still completely delightful.
Good, but I’ve already forgotten it.
i like this not what i usually listen too but it’s def something that would kill on a record player or in the car when it’s warm out
Kinda brassy and a little slow for my liking. The strings definitely give me the old shows and cartoons ost vibe

Let’s Stay Together: 8/10 La-La for You: 6/10 So You’re Leaving: 6/10 What Is This Feeling: 6/10 Old Time Lovin': 7/10 I’ve Never Found a Girl: 5/10 How Can You Mend a Broken Heart: 10/10 Judy: 6/10 It Ain’t No Fun to Me: 5/10 A really calm album, i like this. But not for me.
Soulful funk music with perhaps one of the best male voices of that time in the genre. Nice jazzy guitar progressions drive the music forward, taking twists and turns. But if you lose that ear for the refined movements it will start to blend together.
nice
I like how these songs are quite calming. I might listen to these to relax some day. Although the songs were sort of not my style either.
This album is pretty good, I like how the songs have something to do with love. I also like how it sounds.
Smooth love songs
Pretty alright album. My favorite song was How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. Other than that, I don't really know what else to write about. 5.0/10.
Not the most invested listening to this one, listened twice to try and get a better feel. Easy listening but nothing stood out to me.
Solid soulful album. Really strong melodies. Probably wouldn't put on as more than background noise but I enjoyed it.
I'm always so impressed by the horn sections in these classic soul albums, and this one is no exception.

While I enjoyed the first few songs while biking (noting that I was surprised by how rich and mature his voice sounds given the goon on the album artwork), the monotony of the album started to depreciate my excitement. But once I started working and listened more for vibes than content, I started liking it again.
