Reviews (page 10 of 13)

I would never actively listen to this, but it's really not bad background noise. Easy to listen to soul.

Lovely but rather forgetful after the first song

Genre: R&B/Soul Nice vibes so far, perfect mood for this late night. Very nice instrumentation and vocals. A lot of variety in instruments too! The tracks each feel different from each other. It's decent but it's not my type of album, I couldn't see myself listening to this more often, I think it's just a genre I'm not super fond of (maybe incredibly uncultured of me to say...) I absolutely adore the backing vocals Oh wow "How to mend a broken heart" is a very nice and slow track, very calm, I'm fond of this one, my favourite track on the album. 7/10

I had always known Al Green’s name, but I had barely listened to his music until now. Even though I don’t have any real knowledge of soul, I could simply enjoy this album. I also realized that I love soulful bass lines while listening to this album. My favorite track is It Ain’t No Fun to Me.

First song is an undeniable classic. The rest of the album just didn't grab me the same way. Not bad... just nothing else that really stood out.

Didn’t touch me

I wish this site could let me give half star ratings, as three does not do this justice. Not a bad song here and his classic voice really elevates some of the more filler-y tracks in comparison to the massive title track and the standout "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart"

Somehow my first time listening to Al Green. But oh what a great album that was 3/5

Al Green was probably not a great person. He was charged and accused of abuse a lot. This album is soulful. Hes got a calm voice. I added two of his biggest hits, but otherwise the album just played in the background.

If my dad just bought this and i'm bored, probably listening this

His voice is full of soul. After a couple of songs you know what he’s going to deliver. Some songs sound the same but that’s not necessarily bad.

6.9/10

The title track actually holds a special place for me - it was the first dance at my wedding. I can still picture the awkward shuffling around the dancefloor like it was yesterday (though, funnily enough, that was 15 years ago today as it happens). As a record, it’s a solid slice of 70s soul, with production that really shines - I especially loved the hard-panned brass. It does get a little “hot” in places, with some vocal distortion, but honestly, I find that adds to its charm. The only thing stopping me from rating this higher is that the songwriting feels a bit samey across the record; everything has a very similar vibe. That said, there’s nothing here I’d call bad - far from it. Favourite tracks: Let’s Stay Together, What Is This Feeling, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Judy, It Ain’t No Fun to Me.

Tittelsporet er helt peak. Takk, Tarantino.

Smooth

Smooth, melodic, easy to listen to. Surprised to hear beach music sounds in some tracks.

Oh baby.

Very good

Desolé Al, je te trouve trop clingy. Let's not stay together. Une autre toune iconique de Pulp Fiction. Mais à part la title track, j'ai pas vraiment accroché.

Fine. Not exceptional.

Not really my kind of soul. Too nice, too vanilla, little in the way of stand out tracks beyond the opener. There were way more exciting things happening in 1972.

Smooth and easy to listen to. Enjoyed it.

Soul icon, great album

If Quentin made another film this guy would probably be in it at some point.

A really nice and relaxing sounds I don't think the music aged perfectly but overall is was a nice listen

Pleasant soul album. Nondescript except for... Highlight :Lets Stay Together. a classic. Lowlight : How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. Total demolition job on a Bee Gees classic.

That's the music your parents (or probably grandparents?!) put on, when they were making love in the seventies. Fav: Let's stay together

Cool horns and vocals

This was a really good album! I've never listened to al green very much but I've liked the album and him!

I'll need to remember this album to put on if I ever get to have sex again.

Pretty normal album imo

Really enjoyed this. Very smooth on a Saturday morning.

Lindazo, nada de otro mundo. Nota: 3.0

Ok if you like Al Green

Enjoyed this one. I particularly liked and was surprised by his version of How Do You Mend a Broken Heart. Good music to chill by.

That was fine, nothing special though.

Groovy and with gusto. Very enjoyable listen. Pairs well with doing dishes or getting ready for date night.

Easy listening I guess and short as a bonus. I didn't enjoy it after the first track was done, but it wasn't awful, just a bit generic. Low 3 stars, almost 2.

A soulful, beautiful voice and a serene and easy ride throughout the album, yet, not blown away by standout tracks apart from the obvious couple. Happily put on as background any time though.

Not something I'd probably listen to and I'm not sure I like his voice, but it's clearly good music.

the opening track was so mystical + magical rest of the album was pretty good

Le vibe est super bon mais y’a une coupe de toune je trouvais que ça se ressemblait trop

Short and sweet, un bon benchmark pour du soul.

It's fine. Very little stuck though.

I thought I would like this more. Let's stay together is incredible, but a lot of the rest of it is just nice and flows by without much thought. He has a great voice and the playing is nice, everything is pretty smooth, I just didn't find anything particularly inspiring or memorable.

quite enjoyable. classic stuff. bot the biggest fan of his choppy singing style in how can you mend a broken heart.

Not good not bad

oh no. there's still some redeeming quality to it so im going to give it a 3.

other than the title track this started to run together for me, maybe the songs needed to stay APART

Fine, a good vibe

I had higher hopes for this album. It was good but ok, wasn’t great.

Had a stressful day and listened to this on a drive on my way to my friends which really got me to a calmer mood. Restful (maybe peaceful is a better word). Favourite track: how can you mend a broken heart.

Great soul/love music. Definitely recognize the voice and certain songs.

Not my type of music, but its good!

Bohhh, carino, nulla di assurdo, r&b funketto ok

Stark singel ojämnt album. Titelspåret är överlägset och känns eget och nytt. Albumet mer standard och albumspårigt. Undantaget How can you mend a broken heart, den var svinbra! Lyssna igen: bara på hitsen Bästa spår: D- let’s stay together Dw - let’s stay together Betyg: d- 6 av 10 (3 av 5) Dw - 5 av 10 (2 av 5)

It was pretty good.

Good soul music

Easy listen

This was easy to listen to. I liked the horns. Not my style of music in general though

Let’s Stay Together is smooth and soulful with a great vocal performance, but aside from the title track, it’s a bit too lo-fi for me to revisit often

Las dos canciones que conocía son geniales, la de Judy también me gustó mucho y el resto un poco sin más

Smooth and calm, soulful music from the early 70s. I liked the sound overall, though no songs really stood out and soul isn't a genre I listen to very often. 3+ stars.

dobrze sie sprzatalo

downloaded 1 and 7

Very groovy. The rest of the songs didn’t really catch up to Let’s Stay Together for me, but that might just be nostalgia.

Pretty enjoyable, but all fairly samey. Don't get me wrong I love a bit of funk/ soul but it wasn't mind blowing. All the songs kinda blurred into 1 by the end, and the only standout one to me was the very first one.

Cover 6 I feel like the songs could be reordered as a chronology of a relationship. As it is, they seem a bit out of order,. But overall a good album.

Album starts off with an absolute classic in Let's Stay Together. Really sets the tone for the album. Made for a good half hour of super easy listening to start the morning. No complaints, just vibes. Thanks Al 🤝 Favorites: - Let's Stay Together - I've Never Found a Girl - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

I have a feeling soul and jazz albums are going to consistently rank high for me on this list. I’ve always loved the title track, but this was a good opportunity to listen through the rest of the album for the first time. The other tracks don’t quite reach the same highs as Let’s Stay Together, but still an enjoyable listen. Favorite tracks: - Let’s Stay Together - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

Great album for breakfast.

Soul music is generally just a good time all the way through, but it’s not always all that memorable. This is one of such cases. On a positive note, I definitely would not skip any of these songs. They’re all objectively good. Love this guys voice, but it does legitimately put me to sleep, and in my opinion nothing really stands out at all. Not a problem, but this was little more than just background noise to me. My favorite song, as I felt it did things in a somewhat unique and different way, is “La-La For You.” I would for sure be excited hearing more of this, so for that reason it’s at least a 3.6, if not slightly higher.

tis good but i can't get behind this music

Definitely a mood

A-side has great soul songs, but by turning to B-side it gets more generic. The band is obviously full of professional studio players which is enjoyable to listen. Green is a great soul singer, but not one of my favourite ones. He knows all the singing tricks but could use them more conservatively. Lyrics are regular 'Babe, I love you' kind of stuff.

I don't particularly care for his voice, the album cover is pretty bad, and the instrumentals feel a little cut-and-paste, but the songwriting is good and the record isn't too long. 3.0/5.0: Good

This is some well produced, smooth soul. My 3/5 is quite subjective. If I were feeling lovelorn I just might resonate stronger and would be rate this album higher.

It doesn't get any better than the title track for Al Green's "Let's Stay Together." The rest of the album is good, but nothing like the single. And it's enough to put this album on the list. the song is that perfection!

It’s ok, not my kinda thing

Good, Al showcases a good vocal range with his soul singing. It's sad, happy, pained, hopeful. First listen - all love songs, sing about something else Al Second listen - all good songs. Kinda samey but I enjoyed.

Not bad, but not something I’d listen on my day to day.

nice enough

Interesting album

Nice sound and vibe!

About as cool and funky as you'd expect.

35/1001. I love Al Green, but at the same time if this record didn't exist I'm sure I would not think there is something missing from the world. It comes and goes, mostly harmless.

Entraînant mais répétitif

Mellow mellow mellow.

Nice.... uplifting

Fantastisk stemme, flotte arrangementer. Tittelsporet er ikonisk (med god grunn) og resten av albumet er ikke så verst

It's got soul, and rocks pretty well. Superb band. Favourite tracks: Let's Stay Together, So You're Leaving, I've Never Found A Girl

Classic soul album.

34 minutes of Al Green was just perfect. A minute more and the whole vibe would have crashed and burned. Obviously I only knew the famous single, but the rest complimented it very well. A great summer album.

Nice album

Loved the soulful feel. Horns and strings were a nice bonus.

Good easy listening music. Title track Let's Stay Together is the hit and the best song on the album. A little bit boring at times throughout the album but good feel like a hangout as opposed to some of the overproduced. Strong finish on final track

The title track is immediately recognizable in 2025. The entire album is smooth easy and inoffensive. There's not a bad song on here from start to finish. Favourite track(s): Let's Stay Together, So You're Leaving

Un disco muy elegante, con detalles que recuerdan a Terence Trent D'arby o Lenny Kravitz.

Pretty good! I recognized the title track. This album is very consistent. I'm not usually into soul but this is extremely accessible and likeable. Would rate 3.5.

Familiar with this. Enjoyable enough for short amounts of time

Not normally my style of music. But this is pretty good.

point3.

Chill voor in de achtergrond.

swaggy

Pleasant, moseying, so much soul and groove, and leaves me much more chilled and in a groove than excited or surprised. Has its place and great production too. Not sure anything tops the opener but all songs consistently solid. Enjoyed the pick up of the last track (3.5) close to 4

ok if you're in the mood for some easy listening.

Pretty good. What a beautiful voice.

It was good, I especially liked ”How Can you mend a broken heart”.

I mostly only knew of Al Green for the Talking Heads cover of "Take Me to the River" and the Orange Juice cover of "L.O.V.E. Love", honestly. As it turns out, I'm not a huge fan of him. There's nothing *wrong* with this per se, it's just that the songs don't stick with me at all.

Solid all the way through but not every track was a banger.

A smooth band and slightly adenoidal voice brush against each other. A similar quality to the roughly put-together Rev Green rolling around on silk sheets. Silk sheets don't stay tucked in for long though and this may be why the opener and title track is the best of the lot. Everything after is just rolling around in the damp spot. It's still a little sexy, but the event is over and Green frequently lonely and by himself. Why Let's Stay Together distinguishes itself is for proper scholars of soul to explain. On other tracks, Green is just as sexually pinched. The guitar sounds great throughout. The horns are always articulate and punchy (the brass line on It Ain't No Fun to Me was so good they used it again on Take Me to the River). But nothing is quite so effective after Let's Stay Together. In fact, it is the creases in the silky smoothness that stick out on the rest of the album - for example, what is going on with Al hard-panning a spoken vocal to the left on La-La For You? Still, in the numbness of the post-coital or post-sad-wank haze, not everything registers. 2.5 Another horrendous album cover. What’s happening with his face? What’s happening with the font? We’re doing an album of love songs wouldn’t it be good if the singer’s name oozed in Comic Snot green down the front cover? Was that the best wall they could find to shoot against? Could no one hold the man’s bag for him? The jacket is amazing to be fair. As is this version of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? But the rest of the album, aside from a strong opener and maybe La La For You, is forgettable. Just one big pot of soul syrup; too sickly when served as a whole meal. There’s only so much ‘oooo oooo’ and ‘baby yeah’ the stomach can hold. 2.5/5

Fine, just a fine album, again maybe need some more listens to appreciate the finer bits but just a fine album

Smooth soul

good soul album

Title track is a stone cold classic. And then the album dipped into background music. Don't get me wrong: this is smooth as heck, but the smoothness also blends together. Would I play this album on Sunday mornings? Sure would. But it doesn't go any deeper than that for me.

This was a nice listen, relaxing and soulful.

Today seems to be the day the album generator is dishing out all the albums that have left a complicated mark on me, and Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together is no exception. There’s no denying Al Green’s place in the spotlight, he’s an incredible musician with a phenomenal legacy. But for me, he’s a bittersweet artist. When I was a teenager working in a golf course kitchen, I had this older chef who was kind of a dirty, overweight, and creepy guy, who was always making inappropriate comments about our young female coworkers, mostly in their 20s, who he had zero chance with. He’d constantly play artists like Al Green and try to school me on how this was the ultimate “love making music” and all that. So, yeah, whenever I hear Al Green or a lot of old school soul and funk, it takes me right back to those uncomfortable moments, tainting the experience despite the music’s quality.

Don’t know whether I enjoyed this or if was just how stoned I was listening to this.

The title track "Let's Stay Together" was part of your soundtrack if you were a teenager during the 1970s. I wasn't a soul fan at the time, but who didn't have a slow dance to this? A soul classic and it still sounds as good as it ever did.

Pretty good so far. Really like the horns. Style isn't totally for me but very uplifting and cheerful. 3 most likely and the horns really pushed it up. Think I'm more of a bill withers guy

A really good listen.

Good hits off of this album. Makes me romantic. Does not make my girlfriend romantic :( not my favorite but not bad at all

This was alright, idk it’s not my thing

Old school cool, Green's voice is so velvety. Love all the horns! Needs more sing-along hits after the title track.

Chill, not m'y favorite

enjoyable but won't relisten

Very one note and predictable but I guess that’s just what these type of genres are like. Still, very smooth, soulful, and vibey way to start the day. Also would probably like it more if I knew what love felt like

The bar was set high out of the gate with one of the most recognizable R & B hits from the 70’s. While the smooth soulful voice is great, the rest of the album didn’t carry as strong. 3.5/5

Kind of hard to top or follow the opening track. And although I can dig the more upbeat sounds, the rest just didn’t quite rise. All the songs on this effort are good, but were just not as memorable as the timeless title track. Maybe I’m being extra critical too, now knowing his history of routine physical abuse towards women. Damn. A hard case of trying to separate the art from the artist. Kinda taints the view I had of him and his music.

Enjoyable listen, but definitely a little sleepy at times. A few great tracks here, but a lot of this just made me wish I was listening to Marvin, Otis or Sam

Had high expectations for this. It was an enjoyable listen but didn’t stay at the high level of the opening track. Also, I gotta deduct some points for one of the worst album covers. What in the toxic avenger? Some gross green oozing down the cover? Now that’s sexy!

3.8/5 i feel like this should be a 4 but i can’t decide. it was great, but it didn’t really hit me, i’ve not been in a music mood so i struggle with really enjoying this the way i know i probably could. the first song was the only song i felt like “i love this!” gonna give it a 3 with the chance of upgrading it to a 4 on a better day.

Nice groovey ballads.

This is an album that should just grab me, but it doesn't as much as others. I love Al Green, but I struggled to listen to this through.

Carried by title track, fine overall

it is an okay album. Was not that in pressed

Mooi, een klassieker, vooral de hits waren leuk de rest wat minder

It's ok I guess. I don't really like this kind of music.

Chill tunes, and a huge hit to kick it off.

The track Let’s Stay Together alone holds this record as a classic. But not enough great Al Green to buoy the whole thing. Honorable mention: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart is a great cover of The Bee Gees classic.

I really liked the title track. The rest of the album was fine.

This album starts of so strong. The title track is such a great song. But you can see why it was the only hit off the album, the rest of the album is just okay.

3.5 stars

Pleasant

cool voice but i think im just stoked to not be listening to brit pop

Beautiful voice and production not the greatest songs

It was a pleasant album to listen but nothing outstanding

Pretty good. I knew I'd like this album because of the sweet jacket that Al is wearing on the front cover. I never looked twice at soul music prior to working my way through this list, though this album managed to catch my eye. "Let's Stay Together" is a lot more percussion-heavy than I remember some of the other soul albums on this being, which makes it a lot easier for me to slip into the relaxed sound of the album. There are some very good string sections on this album as well, which I am always favourable to. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" is especially good because of this. It's always a strange feeling to encounter the songs on this list that I'm aware of, but have no knowledge of their background. In this case, it's Let's Stay Together, which is easily my favourite song on the album. "Judy" is another song I like - particularly for whatever instrument appears at the beginning of the song. That section in particular reminds me a great deal of "A Wizard / A True Star" which I am, once again, mentioning. Past me shall forever stand in the court of my disapproval for daring to rate that album a 3/5. I'm tempted to add this guy to my "list of artists to check out" - even more so because this is the only album of his on the list. Apparently it was only up from here for Al Green. I've been adding way too many people to that list lately, so I'll see how I feel in a few weeks.

Enjoyed this. Nice easy listening

I like Al Green so liked this. Solid album. Loves a fade out.

Let's Stay Together is such a classic banger and the rest of the album is decent, but beyond Al Green's clearly brilliant voice there wasn't much that grabbed me to get this to a 4.

CEO OF SEX.

pretty cool also i want this jacket

Første halvdel var mægtig fin soul. Lidt sådan et album som jeg har hørt ting fra før, men ikke hørt selve albummet.

Smoooth soul der glider lige ind af det ene øre og ud af det andet igen.

A romance classic

The title track is great. It's downhill from there. Still a good album, but I was very hyped for what was to come when I heard it start with Let's Stay Together.

First song is a real classic - I don’t think I’d heard any of the other songs besides that and It Ain’t No Fun to Me (which is also really good!) before. I started out liking the record, but at some point it just became a little too much cream and butter for my taste.

Rock solid collection of songs. Al Green's soul, jazz, and funk combo is perfect for Sunday afternoons

Title track is a classic and a standout on the album. Other tracks are ok.

One amazing song and a bunch that aren’t as good.

Very excited for this one.

I listened it on my way home from work and it made my evening. Every single song chases away all the negative energy around you and relaxes you to the point that you think you weren't even at work. :D But from a musical perspective, although the title song which was also his trademark in his career, stands out from the rest, a few hours later I had nothing left in my ear, I totally forgot both the sound and the songs, and I believe that in a short time I won't even remember that I listened to this. Totally forgettable.

Solid.

Objectively a decent album. Bit dull and I wouldn't be in a rush to listen again but not offensive in anyway. I'll give it 3 stars.

undeniably pleasant and some standout moments

Good music, groovy and soulful. A few songs were a bit different than I enjoy, but a few were right up my alley: Let's Stay Together, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Judy.

General: Production misses low end. I feel old listening to this lol. I miss a lack of catchiness. It is impressive that the album consists of many different styled songs each with its own distinct elements. This makes every new song a new chapter in the journey. The more songs i listened the more i enjoyed them. Lets stay together: Cool r&b vibes, production sounds old, La-la for you: i like the little more jazz influences. Difficult to understand the lyrics. What is this feeling: Love themes What is this feeling: Triplet swing Old time loving: I feel more emotion Ive never found a girl Catchy!! Something i missed in the other songs It aint no fun to me: Most bluesy song on the album

Chill tunes and cool vibes but a bit samey and slow for my taste

good, but not as engaging as i thought it would be.

Outside of Let's Stay Together and Mend a Broken Heart, the album was a bit flat, I'm afraid to stay. Maybe it hits harder if you're easy on Soul, but for me it either needs to be emotionally strong, like the two aforementioned tracks, or a bit more vocally and lyrically powerful.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to get out of soul. If it's supposed to be relaxing and easy to listen to, then it succeeds, but it doesn't do anything to be interesting. This is just inoffensive music with nothing exciting about it. There's nothing wrong with that, but I'm not having much fun listening to this, which is what I really want from music.

Very listenable, relaxing, smooth. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out for me, and it all blended into one long song after a while. 3 stars

Elegant in it's simplicity, if missing a little magic.

This album was a great vibe from start to finish.

A pleasant listen - short but sweet.

Title track is an all time great, the rest of the album doesn't ever fully reach the level of that song again. Easy listening, soulful music, enjoyable throughout but it doesn't reach the peaks outside of Let's Stay Together

Ok album. Some catchy songs, but overall didn't feel too impactful for me.

C'est sympa, mais un petit beaucoup trop calme par ici.

Funky and smooth. Can’t think of much more to say! Favourite track was Never Found a Girl, although as a massive fan of the Bee Gees, the cover of Mend a Broken Heart was extremely welcome and appreciated too. (3.5 stars)

A nice album, but not one I would listen to again or am going to remember in a week.

6/10 smooth 1-30-2025

Lovely old stuff. I knew more than I expected to considering I have never chosen to listen to Al Green ever before.

A nice, light soul experience.

frist time heard 3-4 ish

This is very good music... for someone else's taste.

Sweet horns. I sort of like it. Nothing that jumped out to me that I really want to go back to.

Not my genre, but extremely lovely voice, the actual song “lets stay together” is one of my favorite love songs of all time

sì al genere, ma non abbastanza incisivo. enjoyable sottofondo ma poi alla fine ero stufa

perché canta come se gli stessero strappando le unghie dei piedi una a una

• 3/5 • pretty anodyne outside the title track, but what a title track • wacky to hear a gospel-ized version of a Bee Gees tune (How Can You Mend a Broken Heart)

Catchy album

Say smooth one more time. I double dare you. Two brilliant tracks, the rest was a little bit boring.

Allt grönt för Al Green.

Some great R&B/Soul music. Let's Stay Together is the one everyone probably knows. Another artist with some troubling history, but this is worth a listen.

Good! Groovy!

Background music in a Tarantino film.

look man i was already convinced to stay together from the first song

Fun short album with the one big hit.

Really nice soul album. Great background music. (8 Jan 2025)

Great performance but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was a little slow for me. Overall It was still good but not my thing. Title track is my favorite.

Beyond the first track, which is extremely popular of course, I found this to be pretty generic. He's a good singer and I do like the key changes in a lot of the songs, but if you asked me to name one other than "Lets Stay Together" I wouldn't be able to tell you. Perfectly fine, nothing extraordinary.

Legal soul gospel

Decent album but I don't think I know the vocabulary of soul music. It gets sorta samey because of that. I think it's interesting how the instruments are used. Sometimes the drums can be rather busy, sometimes not. You have horns, but they are just these accent stabs, repeating simple motifs. I'm not sure I get it. 2.66/5

First listen. Ok.

3.5 Found myself skipping through the final 30 seconds of most of the songs. Its a good album, just maybe not a good album for me today

that was nice. a little less interesting/more schmaltzy than other al green albums i’ve listened to—the title track is of course the best song.

Enjoyed the album. If the rest of the songs was as good as the first, it would have gotten a 4 star - but 3 stars for the entire album

Not great, not bad Nothing to write home about

I knew the title track off this album before listening :P It was pretty good, nothing jumped off the paper as tickling my fancy but it was soulful, chill, and I would throw it on here and there for sure.

Did not make a strong impression but I saved a few songs.

Songs i knew 1 Songs i liked 2 Lots of songs on here sound the same but still a decent vibe, then you have the one song everyone knows which you can't go wrong with. Old time lovin a tune too. Low to mid 3.

What a tune. Rest of the album’s decent too, if a bit samey. Just one of those vibes records, your Sunday afternoons with your Cerys Matthews, your Guy Garveys. Maybe Huey if you’re feeling fruity. Liked it, didn’t love it but Let’s stay together is an absolute hammer of a tune.

Classic soul. I knew what to expect and I got loads of it. Love the soul sound and the feel of the album. Gets you right in a soulful mood.

Very cool. Music barely reaches the coolness of the cover. Smooth. Would have listened to this while cruising in my car in the early 70s. 3.5/5

Pretty good album. Easy soul sounds. Very listenable. No specific standouts.

Decent album, not a favorite.

-this was a very pleasant listen… a lot of passion and emotion in his voice that made it stand out from a lot of the more generic and well, soulless soul I’ve listened to in the past and on here -Favorites are Let’s Stay Together, Old Time Lovin’, and Judy

It fines

Pulp Fiction.

Enjoyed this a lot and will be giving it some more listens 3.5/5 (could move up to a 4/5) First half definitely better than second half but it’s a short album so it doesn’t wreck the experience

Not my cup of tea, but pretty cool

Smooth.

One of the best soul singer voices for sure. Not all the songs are as memorable as his hit singles (sort of like Creedence where the greatest hits are great but the album experience is just fine) but because it's soul music it makes for easy listening/overall less grating background music.

Yeah, very nice. He helped develop some magnificent threads of music in my past, and this was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. Re-listenability is high. :) high 3 stars. Maybe 4.

Fun and enjoyable soul. I had a good time listening to it.

Some good tunes on this.

At first it seemed sweet, but then I stayed wondering what kind of guy are you, Al, that you can't keep the lady! Not bad but nothing I still come back to.

It's good, but not great. It's a little too polished.

Pure, 70's soul, complete with one of the bigger hits of the genre in its titular track "Let's Stay Together". It doesn't really set out to be more than that, which is fine. Nothing was really groundbreaking to me in terms of the genre, but hey, Mr. Green does look suave as hell on the album cover. Fav tracks: Let's Stay Together, I've Never Found a Girl

Let's Stay Together is okay at best. It is just another album in the sea of 60s/70s soul albums and while it does sound good in a lot of places, it never really changes things up. I do think that Al's voice was definitely good but not much that i haven't heard in other voices of this kind of music like Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder. The few shake-ups in the music were ones i really did appreciate because the rest of the album just blended together so hard that i started zoning out during the album which made me forget a lot of it. This album isn't bad, it's just pretty samey and forgettable and you can do quite a bit better with this kind of music. Best Song: Judy Worst Song: It Ain't No Fun To Me

Very classic 70's.

Solid, easy listening album.

Cool name, cool cover, cool album but it feels like it's lacking something. It is funk slowed down which creates some interesting things musically but sometimes you need it to take you to the next level. you wait for it to explode and release all the funk out, but every time it gets close, it stops and go back down. Nice songs that work well as an album, would fit next to a glass of wine but personally, I need more from my funk albums. maybe this album is too cool for its own good.

Classic but nit the buzz I need for work in this case

Smooth

Pretty good chill songs. Very smooth. Haven't heard this before, except for the hits, and it is pretty nice. Not sure if I would see myself sitting around and listening to this but if it was on I wouldn't be upset.

Fav: How To Mend A Broken Heart Least Fav: So You’re Leaving It’s aight, does enough to be good but not enough to be great

Nice, soulful

Weird how present the immediate Pulp Fiction thought was. With this out of the way: It's pleasant alright? But then... I'm at "Judy" now and I think I've more than done my duty here. It's, again, pleasant. Warm. Got vibes. But. What else? I can't say this enriched my life substantially or at all.

let‘s stay together! ich tue mich allerdings schwer mit dem rest des albums: gleichförmig bis eintönig .. sorry.

Quite a nice one, very classy. Enjoyed the Bee Gees cover. I saw him live once at a free show in Sydney in 2010 but had no idea who he was at the time.

Enjoyed this but maybe not as much as I thought I would. Hits were great. Good background music.

Lindo álbum, a mi parecer.

Silky smooth singing, classic soul.

Didn't leave a big impression, nice first song

Some absolutely classic songs, but as a whole isn’t as compelling as I expected.

Smoooooooooooooooth.

Even 52 years later, the romance does not land as sappy. I'd gladly put on Al for sexy time. Top notch work!

soulful.

Only one real hit for me otherwise just a pretty solid album

1 legendary song with 70s' gospel r&b and mixing that feels very old school in ways I can't put a finger on. everything kind of blurs together, but it's short and sweet. 3.5/5, mostly for that legendary song

Great would just started sounding a bit the same

This is fine. Silky smooth and soulful if that's your thing. Not my thing 6/10

Not bad. Certainly has some cuts. It's more of a time and place kind of album.

The title track is amazing, 5/5 all time hit. The rest of the album falls behind, kind of a victim of placing an all-timer right at the beginning of the album. It makes you wait in anticipation for something that comes close and it doesn't deliver. This feeling definitely leaves an impact on my opinion of the whole thing. And although this is a perfectly fine album, just right to put on in the background when cooking or having a pleasant meal with your loved ones, it's not as good as you'd expect.

i liked the quiet funky vibe but i don't think its something id seek out

I like it but don’t love it. Didn’t hate listening but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

I also expected to like this more. Most of it was pleasant but not that memorable. Let’s stay together is obviously a classic but the rest was just ok. Maybe I would have felt differently if I hadn’t read his bio first and learned about all the times he kicked the shit out of his wife.

Expected much more of a classic. Opening title track set the bar but the rest of the album felt pretty generic. Green’s vocals are certainly awesome, but the melodies felt kind of aimless. Very soulful but almost no hooks. Maybe I just don’t know what to listen for in this one and will end up eating my words later.

Really good music here from the golden age of Motown and soul. Can't give Al Green all the gas because there were giants that leaped before him and some that continued long after him. This is not to say Mr. Green is derivative, but he's alot closer to that on this album than he is unique. So I gotta ding him a few stars for that.

Just like his "Greatest Hits" album, there are some interesting lyrics, and talent sprinkled throughout the album, but nothing really compels me. It's a decent bop to listen to while cruising on a hot, sunny day. Favorite Song: "La-La For You".

não é ruim mas não me pegou muito

é bom, mas falta algo. o erro foi começar com marvin gaye, agora todo soul que vier as expectativas são altas demais

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

Neutral 3a.

Mmm Quentin Tarantino

Didn't realise how many Al Green songs I knew

Comfy, easy, groovy. Consistent, slightly samey. Music to cook pasta with your wife to.

Genre- and era-wise, this is in my wheelhouse, but at least from this album, Al Green doesn’t stand out from his peers enough to get me goin nuts. It’s good, it’s great, but there’s already been a couple handfuls of albums on the list that do a similar thing better and I bet there are many more to come

I honestly didn't love this album, some of it is great but the rest is very samey.

It's fine. Smooth, good groove, lyrics were good. Nothing to elevate it for me, though.

Nice and smooth. I'd listen again.

Huh, this is Neil Young? It's all... perfectly okay.

Let’s stay together is a national treasure of a song, and the rest of the album is a soulful groove to be sure

5/10 Maybe sometimes I'll put it as a background sound while dusting or mopping, it's how I feel right now. Nothing touchy, memorable or unbelievable is found in the lyrics by me. It seems to me that I'm not so mature or "in theme" or what so ever. Ok. It's kinda soothing. You just need to be in a right mood to experience it.

Lovely little soul bops.

it's ok-his voice is not my cup of tea but musically was nice. understand why it's on the list but probably won't seek out to listen to again

Smooth radio tunes

This was fine for what it is. 2.7

Good, but not incredible, R&B. This album is consistently pleasant sounding, but none of the songs on it really blow me away.

Nice listen

Another album that's on this list based on the strength of one or two good songs, not the whole album. This is too bad, as I like Al Green, but not this album. Liked songs added: - Let's Stay Together

Funky and catchy. 6/10

From an objective, critical point of view, this is a 4. The songs are well-written, well-played, well-sung, well-produced, etc., etc. For me, it is missing that certain quality that either resonates somewhere in my soul or that demands to be listened to repeatedly.

Sounded kind of uninspired in writing, al sounded great though.
