Reviews (page 9 of 13)
The title track is good. But by the last song on this eight-track album, I was thinking, "Haven't I heard this seven times before?"
Best leuk album
Al is a great singer and there are some good songs on this album but a prefer my soul music in the style of Sharon Jones, a bit more hard hitting.
Smooth vocals, MOR rhythms, bland melodies - yes, it's Al Green. In other words, it's just a shittier Marvin Gaye.
Some good songs, some subpar songs, no great songs. Just OK.
Smooth...
Probably the ultimate background music for a lazy afternoon or evening vibe, with a bottle of wine and hanging out with loved ones
Vibe
Nice bit of soul
such a lovely record
1. Let´s stay together 2. How can you mend a broken heart
Singing along with the title track here! I am not a big soul music person, but of course I remember a lot of this record from back in the day. There's something about the how it all works together with his vocals that's appealing, especially the subtle guitar and the horn section. I could have done without the Bee Gees cover, but otherwise this was a fine example of early 70s soul music. 3 stars; high end of 3.
Semplicemente bello
Good listening
This is an enjoyable listen with two out and out classics. I have always preferred ‘How to mend a broken heart’ to ‘Let’s stay together’ but there’s not a lot in it. Outside of these two tracks I really enjoyed ‘It aint no fun to me’. It’s strange then that i dont see this as anything above a 3.5/5.
The title track is a 5* classic all on its own, and still sounds incredible. I’ve also always thought Al’s version of “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” is better than The Bee Gees’. The rest of the album doesn’t generally live up to the heights of those two tracks, except for “I’ve Never Found a Girl”, but this is overall an incredibly tight, solid soul album.
Some songs in here are amazing, not all, though.
Let’s Stay Together is anchored by the title song and How Do Mend a Broken Heart the rest are songs that kind of sound the same. Al Green has a good voice. The songs aren’t very interesting and the music all kind of sounds the same.
2.75. I mean, it's ok...
A joy to listen to on a very hot day
A lovely 3 stars, thank you RGP the title track opener and the closing “It Ain’t No Fun For Me” remain the highlights, gets a bit wobbly in the middle compared to his really strong LPs. Tom.
pretty freaking smooth man
ja het is lastig als je album te goed begint dan gaat het snel bergafwaarts daarna
Not my cup of tea however I was strangely pulled in to the lyrics and how soulful the album felt- at times it felt like the songs could have been wrote and sung in the 50s and at times it felt like it could have been made last week. To me that made the album feel timeless even if it wasn’t for my tastes. Fave track- ‘old time lovin’ Worst track- ‘Judy’ 7/10
Good enough, but I won't listen to it again. ★★★
Linda música pero no me destacó ningún tema. Ta bueno para tener de fondo de chill Sape
cine
did I like it or did it just make me feel like the protagonist in a 90s rom-com?
Good album enjoyed the vocals just not my style
Should be a bonus point for licking fly as fuck on the album cover.
Mucha onda el tipo. Le pone cosita soul, funk. Suena orgánica toda la música. Entretenido album. 6/10
His voice is just heavenly. Smooth, silky and slinky. And on the best songs it’s slides and soars. Some of the most genuinely horny singing you’ll hear with a side order of Jesus. Let’s stick together is truly world class sadly rest of album doesn’t reach that height
Objectively great, but not very into soul/funk. Fantastic voice / horns. 3
I don’t know this album very well. The tithe track is a classic song.
Decent funk/soul stuff but the mixing on the version I was listening to was rather terrible, some filler tracks too
Monday, 11/5/26 Memphis soul in full force. Amazing vocal performances and the backing band is stellar. Hi Rhythm band directed/produced by Willie Mitchell is on point. The title track is what everyone obviously remembers, but track two, “La La for You” is the standout.
Starts with the best track, winds down a bit from there. Could be put into the rotation for when I need something chill to listen to.
Smooth but dull
Classic and timeless. Who doesn’t groove to this?
This album is all smooth, gospel infused soul, and Al Green's vocals are just amazing. The production has this effortless cool vibe, the horns are tight, the guitar is perfect, and the whole thing has this chill, beautiful groove, perfect for a lazy Sunday. It's a lesson in keeping it simple and sounding good, feels more like listening to some good vibes than a performance. It feels like the album hits its high point right away. "Let's Stay Together" is a killer opener, but after that, things kinda fall off a bit. I;ve said it before, never blow your load on track 1... To quote Mitch Hedberg, "dude, you have to wait!"
Soul legend with his characteristic voice.
It’s just me, Al, a pitchfork and a giant bag of mulch. Some of my best yearning is done when my hands are in the dirt. 3.5
my tierlist 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
6/10: opening track is an absolute all-timer but it got a bit repetitive towards the end for me. Great voice and a very well-produced album but not really my vibe. Best song: Let’s Stay Together Best moment: hearing the opening to Let’s Stay Together and realising it’s the song from Pulp Fiction
2.8/5 Favorite Songs: Let's Stay Together Ain't No Fun to Me
A good album, I liked It Ain't No Fun TiMe the most.
A vibe, honestly. Nice for the morning drive.
I think most everyone knows the title track, which is a legendary song. But outside of that and the last track on the album, I found the album to be a bit monotonous and totally forgettable. Green no doubt has an amazing and smooth voice, and the songs are all very chill. But there wasn't much on the album that stood out to me. Good background music, but not something I would listen to again as a whole.
This album was just fine. Nothing really stood out to me, but it was all very listenable. It reminded me of Vulfpeck (or maybe that should be vice versa…). 3/5.
Al Green is pretty much exactly what comes to mind when I think of soul music: passionate vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and smooth, groovy music that doesn't get in the way of the vocals. That's a positive and a negative thing. As far as this kind of straightforward approach to soul goes, this is pretty close to the peak. But that straightforward approach also limits the possibilities. There are no surprises here; some songs like "So You're Leaving" get into a good groove, but there are no challenging song structures or topics to be found. And that's not a bad thing! Green's voice and lyrics make this impossible to dislike. But I also find the whole package a bit too simple to truly love.
Didn’t do much for me. Thought it was solid but the songs kinda sounded the same
Alright
It's OK, some good, some ok, nothing bad
Αν και αναγνωρίζω ότι αντικειμενικά είναι καλή μουσική, δεν με ταρακούνησε. Μου άρεσε, ωστόσο θα την άκουγα στο υπόβαθρο Let's Stay Together
Smooth, but too smooth for my likibg
Album #130 Al Green: Let’s Stay Together As blasphemous as it sounds to most people, I am not the biggest fan of soul music. Normally, that is met with responses like “you have no soul” and other similarly clever retorts… However, it isn’t that I don’t enjoy it; I almost always do, I just don’t seek it out. To me, it is like jazz, enjoyable while it’s on, but ultimately doesn’t stick with me. I don’t catch myself singing a line in the shower, or hearing a note as I fall asleep. This album from Al Green has some pretty notable tracks and stays consistently acceptable, yet I am fairly certain I will never listen to it again. Such is life. Best Tracks: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Let’s Stay Together, La-La For You Worst Song: So You’re Leaving Score out of 10: 6.5
This is good porch-sitting, sunny day music. Al has a wonderful voice, but he does a little too much of what Pandora Music would describe as "excessive vamping".
This might be first full album I've heared of R&B in a biblical sense of word... And some of the moments I really liked and loved, and some moments that annoyed me. So far I don't know what to make out of it. But I must admit this guy has a ton of charisma in his voice
my dad loves this album. I've heard all these songs since I was a kid so I was very nostalgic
The unmistakable voice of Al Green, soulful and funky. Great, chilled-out musicianship throughout. The title track is one of his best known tracks.
Soul might just be underrated.
didn’t feel it
Nice and entertaining.
Soul songs with Stax flavor and just a bit of funk, features the classic title track and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. A powerful voice and skillful, soulful singing over smooth arrangements provided by prominent Stax musicians.
So smooooooooth!!
Tastefully restrained across performances and arrangements. The horns are especially nice. Let's Stay Together is head, shoulders, and probably torso, above the rest of it though.
It’s alright nothing too special. Some good melodies and instrumental but lacks iconic songs.
Its not the kind of music im used to but it was actually really good. I put maybe 2 or 3 songs from this album on my playlist but i dont think i’ll be listening to them regularly
Quite nice
Not bad.
Voice appeared hidden in mix, not excited by the songs or production but not terrible
I like the first song- let’s stay together But I can’t listen to it all the time
5.5/10
i like
Solid, but somehow didn't totally grab me. Possibly not helped by doing a load of work at the same time. Likely better than I am rating right now.
Let's start together will forever be one of the greatest songs ever to me. The nostalgia from it brings back such amazing feelings. The album as a whole isn't to slow as some say but does start of very strong leading to a craving for some songs closer to the feeling of the first, and undoubtably the most iconic.
It's very 70s. It just drippppppppss 70s (I see you Bee Gees song). I don't hate it. It's kinda' in the same class as Van Morrison: pretty, but not really doing much for me.
I could listen to Let's Stay Together on repeat, but the rest of the album didn't really grab me.
I will never listen to this again, but at least I don't feel like I actually wasted precious moments of my life listening to it this time.
i like the album, just good vibes
Funny thing that RAYE just released her new Album with a song featuring Al Green. His voice has changed a lot in these 54 years since the release of this recording, but it is still recognizable as Al Green. Ok, back to this album. Opener is an all-time classic that many of us know, regardless of the decade in which we were born. The rest of the album is in par with that track. Soul's not my favorite kind of music, but I like to listen to it once in a while.
No private session used for Spotify. I like this, it's upbeat and funky. Al's voice paired with background singers and the horn section its just fun. I am trying to find the correct time to listen to this music and at the moment I am failing.
Pretty easy listening.
Silky smooth
Good listening.
Soul
Not my style, some songs made me think of spinning around outside or gardening or something
I like this. Have heard a lot of it, but wouldn't have been able to name it as Al Green, but now I will.
Solid album. Stuck to the good ideas it found.
very soul and classic, it's good but not my type
Vibe soul chill très sympa
Nothing that really stuck out to me just a fine easy listen.
Žavu
Amazing voice and great recording. Title track is an all time classic but the whole album is really great 👍
It was alright.
Good
Peakar vid första låten och sen blir det ganska enformigt. Bra? Jovars. Något märkvärdigt? Inte alls.
It's alright
nunca lo había escuchado, bastante bueno y son canciones bastantes cómodas, no se como explicarlo pero se sienten como tranquilas. solo hablo de las canciones y del album, no he leído más del señor. 3
Al Green is one of the smoothest (except for Donny Hathaway - who is suspiciously missing from this list). This album is t his best IMO but still listenable.
Again, it's good. And by that I mean it's not bad.
He has such a calming smooth voice, it's very relaxing. I wish there were more stand out songs on this album than just the title track though. That voice could have done so much more.
Let's Stay Together is a nice soul album and Al Green's singing only makes the music better. 3.4/5
The title track reminds me of that scene in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Great song. But then the rest is kinda the same.
Two 70’s soul albums in a row. Such excite. I do enjoy hearing Let’s Stay Together whenever it’s played on the radio, so a nice chilled time to listen to the entire record is very welcome. And this was 34 minutes of pure soul groove. Nothing fancy or trying to be anything it’s not. But yet, I can still only bring myself to give it three out of five. I’m becoming stricter with my ratings. Standout track - So You’re Leaving
It was pretty but kinda faded into the bg. 3? Also too many love songs lol
Al Green is a vibe. Not a lot of songs on this album that are an instant favorite, but a big fan of his voice, his vibes, and his work.
This kind of heartfelt soul is one of my favorite styles of music (Otis Redding adjacent? Sly & The Family Stone have some tracks like this as well), so I enjoyed this album the good bit. I was already familiar with the Graham Station version of "it ain't no fun to me" (this must be the original?), which has some key differences in lyrics, namely: "Oh, it seems we make up//Only just to break up," on Al Green's version is "Why (I thought he was saying white until I looked it up) people break up, only just to make up//Hey, baby yeah, but it ain't no fun to me," and I like Larry Graham's cynical twist better. Overall, I enjoyed this album. If I were to give a nitpick, I would say it was a bit corny sometimes, and the lyrics were predictable. 7/10
Old-style, kinda slow. Not feeling it rn. 3.8
Let’s Stay Together makes this album worth it no matter what. Great voice and nice groove throughout
The title song is of course a classic. While the rest of the album doesn’t reach such heights, I still enjoy it his incredible voice.
This was fine, I enjoyed it. There were some great songs
got soul
Bara næs solid þristur. Geggjuð rödd.
It's good, just not for me
2.6
Smooth, mmmmmm loving grooving. Let's bide tegether eh????
I'm a huge soul fan, but the reverend isn't my favourite - I'm more into earlier greats like Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T and the MGs, and the Stax sound (although Al Jackson does a fantastic job as always on the drums here, he's at his best with Donald Duck Dunn) Honourable mention for the Memphis horns that are outstanding as always Very close to a 4, but there's surely other earlier Memphis sound records in the list that will get there and beyond
Album très court (34 min) mais très sympa à écouter. Très sympa à écouter en fond mais pas de chansons réellement mémorable. Cependant super voix et instru entraînante ! Note : 3 À réécouter : Oui
It is decent soul album, which was easy to listen to. Smooth sound, soul touching lyrics (I guess so) However, I am not a big fan of this genre yet.
Only a few good songs but overall very chill
It's so groovy that even I can dance it. Most songs are perfectly pleasant, though the final track, "Ain't No Fun to Me," stands out for its gritty rhythm and Green's cutting vocal delivery.
Nice to listen to, but other than the two I knew already not a lot stuck out.
This album has a great single as an opening track. A couple other good songs but the rest is meh.
First time listening to an Al Green album. I instantly recognized the title track the moment I hit play. Although I never knew the song was called "Let's Stay Together" or that it was an Al Green song until now. The rest of the album is fine but nothing comes close to being as good as the first song. This is an album I'd give a 3.5/5 to if I could but for this i will round down to a 3/5 as it did not have enough to move it into 4/5 territory.
neat :)
It feels like there is 2 Al Green's on this album, one who sings in a falsetto and one who sings in a much bassier voice. Though I'm usually not a huge fan of falsetto singing, I actually preferred those songs.
Soulful, R&B - not what i normally enjoy listening to but it was quite nice anyway.
3.2/5
It wasn't unpleasant at all, I enjoyed it, but the vocals were so over the top silly that it felt a bit like a joke to me.
Horny. 3.49
the vocals were quiet on the recording i've listened too, but that made me appreciate the production more, which has become my favorite part of the record. nice soul album from '72, not much more to say. 6.7/10
This was pretty fun. Reminds me of a tarentino movie.
Music is nice. Fidelity is sadly lacking
Ganz nice
quite liked it, but not my taste
Was suprised I actually enjoyed listening!
1 big tune, 1 good cover
Enjoyed this, especially the slower stuff. Probably didn’t tip the dial enough to make come back to it. What a great voice. 3.5
When I saw the cover, I initially thought it was Khalid. He does look alike, especially from a distance, though his cheeks are a bit bigger. But the music turned out to be completely different — classic Southern soul with a sweeping tempo that makes you want to stroll down a sunny street, chest out, and an abundance of brass instruments. The lyrics are mostly about the opposite sex, in keeping with the genre's traditions. Returning to contemporary artists: while Khalid took Al Green's hair and left it at that, Justin Timberlake and Seal have clearly drawn heavily from his music. It's a pleasant album, but I can't give it more than three stars because the soul music is a bit monotonous and background for me. If you feel differently, you can give it an extra star or two.
Chill album, weet niet of ik het zo snel nog eens op zou zetten, maar ik hoorde wel fijne dingen. Niet zo bekend met het genre
5/10 01.03.2026
Let's Stay together carries this album, a couple other funky tracks but mostly forgettable.
Let’s stay together and I’ve never found a girl
The falsetto on this guy is something, prominently used in the song 'Old Time Lovin'. Overall amazing vocals and cool rhythm guitar, had a fun evening... The first few songs of the album were okay ish but got better in the mid way to the end.
A nice and calm soul album. There's nothing really exciting outside of the first song really but I would revisit it
it was okay, title track is always a banger. the rest wasn't my kind of music, but I can see how this was the JAM back in the day. making your kids clean up on a sunday with al green playing the back. *ahhh good ol days*
This album feels far too much like two absolutely belting songs amidst some mid-level album tracks. As an album it's got a nice sound/vibe, and the vocals are obviously strong.
2 great songs, other songs don’t reach that level.
Solid album
I liked the songs throughout the album quite a bit, but I wouldn't listen again. It was a high three in my opinion.
Track 1 took me back to being a teenager and 7 straight back to Notting Hill . Gentle , easy listening .
Good listen. Smooth. Green's vocals paired with the jazz-lounge musicality really make for a relaxing experience. "I've Never Found a Girl" ended up being the favorite.
14/02/2026 Decent enough album, decent enough listen. Spotify listeners: 7.2 million
Bit meh
Really dope use of strings. Lyrics didn't move me very much. Feels like it's just a 30 min jam. Which is cool! But also not ground breaking to me
Let's Stay Together works mainly because of Al Green himself. His voice is smooth, controlled, and emotionally convincing, carrying the song almost effortlessly. The groove is relaxed and pleasant, and the production feels warm without being distracting. The problem is that the song doesn’t go much further than that. The melody circles the same ideas without developing, and the lyrics are extremely straightforward—romantic, yes, but also predictable. Once the mood is set, there’s little reason to stay fully engaged, especially on repeat listens. It’s enjoyable and easy on the ears, but it plays things too safe. Strong vocals and atmosphere keep it afloat, while the lack of depth and musical risk hold it back. 6/10
Favorite Songs: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Let's Stay Together Least Favorite Song: It Ain't No Fun to Me This was good, but it does feel like a waste of time when I listen to an album and the only songs I like are the most popular ones.
Let's Stay Together How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
it sounds nice but not for me. song intros are nice
Soul music
The actual songs on this album aren't bad, but I must say that I had heard basically everything that the album could give me by the third. Good music but It did get a little stale pretty quickly. 6/10
Album is pretty good overall but found it a little hard to disassociate the art from the artist on this one.
2/4/26. Classic first song. 6/10
This is a sweet album--great title song of course, and fun to hear a cover of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. I had to do some quick chronology to be sure the cover wasn't the other way around, but later confirmed it's a Brothers Gibb composition. Anyway, sweet album, but not tremendous all the way through, so I'm giving it 3 stars. It did, though, make me want to listen to the rest of his discography. There's so much great music there.
I forgot to listen but i’ll update this ojay
Quality soul music. Every track is solid and enjoyable.
Two favorite songs on the album R: so you’re leaving and let’s stay together
Im sure this is significant for one reason or another. Perfectly good, serviceable Soul 7/10
// en sang inn så kjenner jeg musklene slappe av. en trøst.
An enjoyable bit of soul.
Cool times
Some pretty good soul music here
Some lovely, undeniably beautiful songs, but as an entire album tends to feel a bit monotonous.
cool and comfy, but i like things with more beatssssssssss
Enjoyable but pretty simple. Makes you tap your foot and snap your fingers but doesn't make me want to revisit any specific song 5.7/10
I mean... Let's Stay Together will alway be associated with Pulp Fiction for me--which is a good thing--and the album was pleasant to listen to, but it's not the type of thing I foresee myself putting on again.
Generally speaking, I love soul music. And this was certainly a nice listen - very easy, and very pleasant. There's just something...boring here. Maybe because it all sounds so similar, maybe because it's mostly lower energy. Not even necessarily a negative - just doesn't feel like much of a standout album to me.
i mean yes very funnn
This was alright but I think it was just added for the titular track.
fun
Good record!! Finally got something I hadn't heard that ended up being a total disaster... Awesome rhythm section, great selection of horns, enjoyed the amount of organ as well as how it fitted in the melody, great band, nice tempos and to top it off fantastic vocals. Really enjoyed this one!
Just fine
Classic
Enjoyed. Very refreshing.
Perfect example of an artist where the greatest hits would have been a better choice.
Enjoyed, good to play in the background but nothing reaches the opening tune.
Kind of boring but chill enough. Simply not my genre of music.
A funky listen!
I recognized the 1st song
My favorite part of the album is his soothing voice. The titular song is the peak of the album for me, I believe there’s a reason it’s the most famous song from it and unfortunately it’s also the first song on the album so it was kind of downhill from there. I can appreciate this as great for its genre, and the instrumentals are impressive with some great bass lines and fun horn sections but overall not sure it’s my kind of music. I will say- my second favorite song was definitely What Is This Feeling.
I hate the 5 star rating system, this album deserves more than 3 but not quite a 4 star record for me. Listened to this one for a second time now and I appreciated it a bit more on the second listen. It has some classic hits, but the first 3 songs are great! They are a bit funkier which is more of the style I prefer. There really isn't a bad tune though, so I enjoyed it all the way through.
Great album, but wasn't my kind of music. I did enjoy many songs from it though! Favorite tracks: Let's stay together, so you're leaving, how can you send a broken heart
This album got me moving a little. Very enjoyable 6.5/10 3.5/5
its cool and funky, and i like the melody runs that happen in the songs. ultimately, this is background type music for me
The title track is great. The rest is background music. It all runs together and sounds the same. 3.5
dang that is a sweeeeeet man ^w^ maybe a bit repetitive but i like it this way a nice soul album
C'est pas mauvais, mais ça se traîne franchement trop pour moi.
Groovy! Worth a re-listen!
Short and sweet; every moment is filled with instrument;, doesn't overstay it's welcome; the mix brings out each instrument's texture. Pretty much as good as this genre can get
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2
Easy listen but not one I'd go back to
Sonntag, 11.01.2026 Immer noch im Wohnzimmer meiner Eltern
Not my Style. Classic though
Another artist's violent proclivities towards women. The HOT GRITS incident I remember in the news for a second. That said, the sultry soulful semi-romantic tracks on this album could be so good if not for real life. Listened before? N Saved tracks? N Favorite tracks? Let's Stay Together, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart ⭐⭐⭐ For the music 🤬 For the artist
Mukavia rytmejä ja vokaaleja jossa niskaa piti nytkyttää! Tykkäsin!
I really loved the instrument play on this album
6/10. Nice to listen to while reading or doing something else.
Classic album. Songs seem repetitive in sound but I’ll never complain about hearing Al greens serenade voice/sound.
Lange Busfahrt. Letzte Reihe. Sonnenschein fällt in mein Gesicht. Schön, aber jeder Song auch irgendwie gleich.
Shit made me smile. Silky vocals and full of soul
Title track is iconic and while I didn't really think much of the rest stuck out to me, I didn't mind the listen one bit. 3.5
I don’t dislike soul it’s just typically not the kind of music I listen to. this album is very pretty though! The first half of the album is kind of sonically repetitive however, but there is some variety in the second half which I liked, especially in the last 3 songs, which are the best on the album imo. Overall I think I’d give the album a 3.5/5 (or a 3 on the website because you can’t do halves) I might not come back to it but for what it’s worth I did like it.
first track was a stand out, very enjoyable and relaxing. i think the singer is a woman beater so.. awks. good music tho
Not a strong enough album for 4 stars but this is a worthy 3 stars.
Not entirely my jam but the groove is undeniable
Decent soul, nothing else gets close to being quite like the title track. Listening to the tracks with the domestic abuse stories does shift the sound somewhat. Great voice but a lot of buts. 3 Star
I did not really like it. It is sorta background music for me, the only song that escaped that realm for me I sLet’s stay together and rightfully so.
Soulful singing, tight rhythm guitar 3 - deservedly on this list
Good vibes, soulful, short but sweet
Similar to the recent Curtis Mayfield album
- already listen to a few songs on this album. but it is refreshing listening to albums in order as you begin to pick up on transitions and other intentions by production.
He’s got a great voice. Grew a bit boring after a few songs.
Started strong but I forgot I was listening to it.
Nice listen but nothing worth revisiting for me.
This is considered R&B, ya know, rhythm & blues. If you listen to r&B now, you'd be hard pressed find one like this one. Soulful, sorrowful & little bit funky. He's got a great voice & I love horns. 3
Not my genre, and haven't really heard much of him before. Not really a fan of the title song. But I actually quite enjoyed the last three tracks. But I think if I want to listen to soul, I'll stil go with Otis, Sam or Marwin.
Whether or not I'm right in this opinion, this very much feels like archetypal soul and RnB. And it's very pleasant. I do think thr songs are a little bit same-y and some of the shorter songs are a little low on impact, but the full experience is there. This is smooth, sultry, earnest and, as I mentioned, very pleasant. I do generally like my soul and RnB a touch more mutated, but this is a me problem that will not effect most people. Regardless, a good time.
Pretty good. A bit shmoozie.
To me, still a timeless, refreshing sound. I probably don’t need a whole album of it.
Smooth
Sure
Really great voice. Title track clearly a highlight
Easy listening, general soul grooves and instrumentation. Lot of repetition and similar sounding songs except for the first and last tracks, which were my favorite.
Liked it but maybe not quite my type of music. Title track was great!
Al Green took the longest to grow on me of the big Soul names of the 70s, with his unique production style not quite agreeing with what my ears want to hear. That combined with his more directly sex-driven subject matter made it an uphill battle to compete with the likes of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Eventually, I'm Still in Love with You clicked for me, and it has helped me appreciate much of his other work as well. Even after this though, Let's Stay Together as an album does not hold up as well for me unfortunately. Despite the eponymous track being absolutely stunning, the rest of the album fails to carry that momentum anywhere. With the exception of How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, the rest of the tracks feel flat and formulaic. It leaves the album feeling more one-note than I would like, with any shred of memorability from the other tracks being overshadowed by the only two that venture to do something interesting. Albums that are packed with nothing but love songs typically struggle to keep my interest, but I can get into it more when the musical material supporting them is engaging enough. Unfortunately, I think Let's Stay Together suffers primarily due to its lack of variability for the majority of its runtime, relying too heavily on its wonderful singles to make up for the rest.
Sounds good. Entertaining as opposed grabbing attention.
pues me ha gustado , en plan sin más, mi fav es la de how can you mend a broken heart pq me sonaba de tiktok
6.0/10
This kind of smooth soul washes over me and all the songs feel a bit samey. I realise this is because I'm not familiar enough with the genre to appreciate the nuances of arragment and performance properly. Hopefully this project will educate me a bit.
pretty good, not as good as stankonia
Funny, 2 or 3 amazing songs and the whole album is but still I find it hard to rate it higher than 3.5 stars. I guess it’s good, but it’s not a album you put on and go (actively) listen too. Most songs are perfect just as background music.
Warm and smooth, pleasant enough vocals. Some of the strings and drums are enjoyable here, but it’s a weirdly bad recording for something from the 70s. Maybe that’s a deliberate choice to sound more old-school. It’s alright but won’t be coming back to it.
A soul classic but listening to this record it's understandable why he is a bit of a one hit wonder. The rest of the record is not nearly as strong as the title track
The song "Let's Stay Together" is a library-of-congress-level classic, but this album isn't serviced by putting it first. All the following songs kind of blend together without much definition and I wish they put "Let's Stay Together" further back in the track list. Don't get me wrong, Al Green has a great voice and every song here is smooth, sexy, and immaculately produced; it's just hard to tell them apart when they're all stacked on top of each other. "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" barely stood out to me, and only because it's already in the zeitgeist (it seems like it's used in tv/movies more than the original Bee Gees version). The only other song I remember with any distinction is the last track, "It Ain't No Fun To Me"
Gotta love Al. This isn't my favorite of his albums but it's still very enjoyable. Favorite track: Let's Stay Together 3.5/5
First listen
Let’s Stay Together is a great song, it’s the best song on the album and also the first, meaning the album peaks early. The rest of the album is pretty good but didn’t do quite enough to convince me to give a 4th star.
Title track and Broken Heart were pretty good. Everything else was meh, low-end 3
It’s a good album. The title track is definitely the best and much of the album isn’t at that level. But the grooves are good and Green’s voice is great. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
Supergreen
3.0 Great first song - hard to top it after that. If you're into Soul you're probably upset I only gave it a 3 but. . . honestly just not my genre. I will say this is 1000 times better than the next album I review.
3.75!!!
Al Green is one of the great later-era Soul Singers and this album has his most known song (Talking Heads fans be damned). I'm more into female soul singers for this genre and Al Green is quite an iconic voice and presence, but isn't something I'm going to seek out and put on very often. Nevertheless, the record is still enjoyable but misses something to really gravitate it better for me. I think I'd like some of his other albums more than this one.
Classics for Sunday afternoon, but the whole thing was a little bland for a Friday
I'm not a big fan of soul music, but I thought this was pretty good for what it was. The songs were hopeful and upbeat. For a style of music I'm not tremendously fond of, I thought that this was pretty good.
bom album, na pegada de um souls, voz suave e com otimo timbre, percusão da banda impecavel, a melhor do album: Old Time Lovin'
Nice vibe on a monday afternoon
Pulp Fiction.
fino, solidno
Great album but slow for my taste
Good for my soul.
The title track makes it a little better than okay. But it was just okay. I grew up listening to Al Green's greatest hits. That is very good. I ldo like how so many of the bands of the early seventies had horn sections like this one. 7/10
This was fine, but not great.
I wanted to like this album more than I ended up enjoying it. A few standout songs, the rest was less memorable.
A couple of great ones, and some reasonably good soul, but not all of them were strong.
Nice to loop yoyos to
Zwar auch ein ruhiges Album von denen es hier leider viel zu viele gibt, aber dieses spricht mich wieder mehr an. Vorallem in der ersten Hälfte, gegen Ende verliert es mich dann etwas, aber trotzdem 3/5
Pretty good stuff. Overall, the doesn’t quite make it to a four but definitely a solid three. Helena did not like it, but she was in a bad mood.
Muy soulero y disfrutable pero escuchadas un par, escuchadas todas.
I didn't have strong feelings about any of the songs on this album when I listened to it. I think its a good album, but not exactly my type of music.
Some classic songs, but not a great album.
Chill, can see why it's on the list, not a repeater for me 3
A good warm up for his next album (I'm Still in Love with You), favorite Al Green album. Needs no extra tracks, the 34 minute run time is just the right amount.
Great voice, great sound, but the songwriting takes a dive in the back half.
Thoughts before listening: Definitely a classic title track on this one. Otherwise, I know this will be soul music with strong vocals. Review: Yeah, this is definitely good although its not necessarily the type of thing I would typically listen to. This album is full of poppy, catchy r&b songs with great instrumentation and Al Green's soulful vocals. I'll add a couple songs to the playlist and this is 3-star album to me.
10/29/25. The first track is amazing. The rest I thought was good but slightly repetitive. Love Al Green's work and need to check out the rest of his discography.
Nice. Chill. Not a genre I normally like but feels like something I will cook to.
I feel like there's a certain type of listener who thinks music reached its peak with early '70s soul and I honestly can't say I blame them – there's a kind of innocence in albums like Let's Stay Together that just can't be replicated in modern records. As a child of the '90s who was raised by the internet, I suppose this kind of music has never really spoken to me. I definitely wouldn't mind it being put on while out throwing a frisbee or having a picnic, but I don't think I'd ever listen to it recreationally. Highlights: Let’s Stay Together, So You’re Leaving
Today seems to be the day the album generator is dishing out all the albums that have left a complicated mark on me, and Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together is no exception. There’s no denying Al Green’s place in the spotlight, he’s an incredible musician with a phenomenal legacy. But for me, he’s a bittersweet artist. When I was a teenager working in a golf course kitchen, I had this older chef who was kind of a dirty, overweight, and creepy guy, who was always making inappropriate comments about our young female coworkers, mostly in their 20s, who he had zero chance with. He’d constantly play artists like Al Green and try to school me on how this was the ultimate “love making music” and all that. So, yeah, whenever I hear Al Green or a lot of old school soul and funk, it takes me right back to those uncomfortable moments, tainting the experience despite the music’s quality.
Two of the best songs of all time on the album, but as a whole it has a few lackluster moments
Great soul. Did not expect it to be so homegrown sounding Never heard any of it past the titular track before
Um bom disco, apesar de manter os vocais lânguidos tão característicos da soul music, destaca-se pela riqueza e sutileza instrumental pelas partes de órgão, metais e arranjos de cordas (exceto nas baladas).
Very chilled out and easy to listen to
sonically pleasing but lacking some measure of "oomph" for me to feel emphatic about it, though i do love the sound of those retro strings - pretty good overall!! highlights - let's stay together, i've never found a girl, how can you mend a broken heart, judy, it ain't no fun to me
I like Al Green, but I’m not going to pretend like parts of this record were a little bit of a slog to get through…well, maybe not a slog, exactly. I think the problem is that it starts really strong, and then not much else is nearly as strong as the title track. I could also do with a bit of tempo change once in a while. So, decent enough record, but being front-loaded with the best song in the record makes the rest of it look not nearly as good by comparison. And it could stand to pick up the pace once in a while. 3/5
Enjoyable, maybe a little samesy?
alright
I was hoping to like this more, as a lot of the old R&B I have listened to on this list has been great, but this was just average to me. The title track is a great song and Al's voice is smooth and good to listen to. I just found a lot of these songs to be pretty homogenous and unexciting. This pales in comparison to anything from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and some others.
The title track will always remind me of Pulp Fiction. I guess that’s a generational thing. Good album, but too ”smooth” for my taste. 3/5
Upphafslagið er fullkomið. Restin af plötunni fyrir utan How can you mend a broken heart er bara frekar mikið meh.
Оно смуз, но за исключением заглавной песни прямо слишком смуз - всё в одно, и ничего не цепляет. Вайбово. Лучшая песня - Let's Stay Together.
Álbum bem legal de ouvir. Se destaca em algumas músicas. Curti. Truthear Zero: Red.
Better than I thought it would be
no es mi estilo pero esta bien, no está mal
This is all the things I expect from Al Green. Warm soul with a bit of funk, and the odd nod to James Brown. It’s got a slight gospel vibe which isn’t unpleasant. The players thrum gently in the background and none of the songs are bad. But horns… I can’t go horns, and they are all over this.
Al Green's Let's Stay Together. He didn’t bury the lead. He opened with it. That title track kicks off the album like he knew exactly what he had: a soul classic in real time, complete with those silky horns and a vocal that could charm the smoke off a cigarette. Swagger for days. And then it just keeps coming. “Old Time Lovin’” is as sultry as the name suggests, with Al practically cooing through a Marvin Gaye-style slow jam. His cover of “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” turns a Bee Gees ballad into something soft, pleading, and devastating. And “It Ain’t No Fun to Me” as the closer. Sounds like it was recorded at 3 a.m. with one take to get it right. The whole thing runs 34 minutes. No bloat, no filler, just Al Green at the absolute top of his game.
Me gustó, pero exceptuando la primera canción (que es conocida) nada me hizo darme cuenta de lo que estaba escuchando.
