Reviews (page 14 of 14)
This album was pretty mellow. I liked `All I Need` and `Remember` the best. I don't understand why this album is considered one of the best of all time; I'm probably missing the historical context. Overall I felt like it was okay, but not something that I would listen to more than a couple of times.
I only listened to this when tidying However I don't think that's overly disrespectful to the music, there're some cool ideas but nothing ardently special
Spacey, meandery, electronica (I guess)?
Ok
2.3 Bit dead innit, I get the vision but it's not my cup of tea. Fave songs: Sexy boy
Way to chill for me. When I saw it was the same group that did The Virgin Suicides, I knew it would be a snoozer hahaha. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: You Make It Easy
Groovy-ish
This album isn't bad, I just find it a bit boring. I feel like I've heard so many albums like this one, very much coffeehouse music. I liked the few standout tracks but the rest served as background. Standout Tracks: Sexy Boy, Ce Matin-Là, Le voyage de Pénélope
Interesting music and production for the time but nothing really grabbed a hold of me
Not bad, too much of a slow burner for my liking, could’ve been a bit shorter. Cool sounds though
Weird atmospheric music
hmm, lots of great music out there. this ain't it.
I thought a few of the tracks were pretty cool, but I also thought several of the tracks weren't my cuppa tea
Eh. Didn't do anything for me. Sorta boring. 2/5
Virgin Suicides eyy
Favoritas: -La femme d’femme -Kelly watch the stars -Talisman
Sympa comme une musique d'attente de bar lounge. Sans doute remarquable et novateur à l'époque mais je n'ecouterai jamais ça de bon cœur, dans que ce soit pour autant complètement mauvais
- not for me
Nice switch up, can't give more than a two
This album is what it feel like when you try to be really cool and mellow and then it doesn’t make much sense. The album is decent as it’s pretty avant garde with the various styles and it doesn’t feel like an album from 98. It doesn’t really go anywhere but that’s I feel most electronics albums are. This is decent but I didn’t enjoy it. It was just easy to listen to. 4.7/10
2/3
I kind of enjoyed it. Nice background music. Don’t think I’d listen again. Felt like it could of been a soundtrack to a Zach Braff film in the early 2000’s
Quaint, not very good.
🤷♀️I mean it was a peaceful album. I understand why their band is called Air because it sounded very airy. It wasn’t anything interesting or fun to me but it was pretty sounds?
Nahhh, don't like this. I don't even feel like explaining myself.
Some cool aspects to start off with. Started sounding more like Gabe’s Sci fi soundscapes with each listen.
what on earth is this is this the soundtrack to the wire? WHAT IS THIS Sexxyyy booooy I’ve had enough soz
TBH, once the hits are out of the way, its pretty mundane
Interesting, good as background music, not something I'd be much into
Nothing more than background music for me. Favorite track: Ce Matin-Là
Not very interesting.
I had never heard of this band or this album or even any of the tracks on it before this list. It was enjoyable and I can see why it was here. I would not think it worth more than a casual acknowledgement as it was neither the first downtempo or low-fi album, nor was it one of the best. It’s a meh.
Kinda like elevator music. I was intrigued at first, but then simply found it insipid.
Strange vibe but chill
Seems like a less entertaining version of Daft Punk
Id say this album is “fine.” A lot of the songs sound about the same. Easy listening.
chato
This was nice background music, but I'm not sure I can rate background music higher than 2 stars. If it was more upbeat electronic music I could imagine dancing to it at a party. Not sure it's interesting enough for me to devote my full attention to it and listen without doing anything else
Meh. Not very exciting or interesting to me. not offensive either. Would give a 2.5.
Started listening, but soon got bored.
2 Air albums in 3 days is more than I can take...
This wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. That does not mean it was good because it wasn't. "La femme d'argent" was certainly the highlight of the album. Some of the chill energy at the end was a nice vibe though not my favorite musically. Overall it had decent bass, but that was really the last of the positives for me. I just don't understand why Robert Dimery has such a affinity for Electronica.
The album has some nice moments but doesn't land with me. To be honest, if I'm listening to electronic music I'd much rather stick some trance on, that's where it's really at.
Oh good, more electronica this is way more accessible than Aphex Twin, but what it gains in accessibility it loses in interest. I've heard the second track somewhere before, but can't place it. Everything is a bit too long and rambling, most if not all of these songs could've been a minute shorter and been much better for it. 2/5, nothing to raise it above pleasant background noise.
Tried so many times in the past to get into this (lots of friends regard it as a masterpiece). Could not find this any more boring: the songs go from not grabbing any attention whatsoever to having whatever cool-chill-90s-eletronic vibe that was out there at that time (lacking a good kick to make it any memorable).
French elevator music, unoffensive, if a bit boring as a listening experience
MID
Even though I'm only giving this album a 2, it's fine music, just not really for me. It feels more like background music. It's not something I can see myself getting into or coming back to but I completely understand why people would like it. Mainly it's a lot of good instrumental with some vocals scattered throughout the album.
Track 1: super chill, spy movie vibes Track 2: ive heard this before. too repetitive Track 3: vocals were okay Track 4: catjam, but also repetitive (i prefer more variation in my music) Track 5: yea still got those spy vibes Track 6: immediately reminds me of Katamari Damacy, but more chill Track 7: i dont vibe with this track Track 8: this one is a little bit different, i liked the strings Track 9: honestly spaced out during this one Track 10: kinda just more of the same chill album, with a consistent vibe throughout. I didn't care for the vocal tracks much. wouldnt listen to it again.
I don't get this "music" - not that it's bad, I just can't get into it. The first song (which appears to be the only one anyone else on Amazon Music ever listened to) was pretty good, then it fell way off for me.
Jesus fucking Christ, more French electronica? I’ve already had like 8 albums of this junk. This one was probably the best one on the shit heap though. Sexy Boy was a cool song, I’ll give that one props. But overall I can’t fucking stand this crap. Please, throw me a freakin’ Zeppelin bone already, man!
Creative, atmospheric, unique, but ultimately boring.
Ok, hard for me to enjoy as anything other than background music
Meh. Objectively, it's fine. There's nothing wrong with it. There's just...nothing there. Nothing to grab on to. Like air, I guess. I enjoy listening to this type of music while I read, but I would never seek out a certain artist or song.
Another album of electronic music that I didn't like. Surely it must end soon. This one was decent in places but still not anything I want to listen to again. If I'm going to listen to French electronica it's going to be a certain duo of robot helmet wearing fellows.
this kind of quiet house stuff isn't really my thing. it's like an annoying combo of retro sounds (moogs, or at least some imitation) over the top of modern beats. overall very bland, would be the background music to background music. or maybe i'm just not stoned enough - it could be alright if I was just slightly off my head. daft punk for people with even less personality? is that possible? oh, and they have a singer on some songs and she must have placed the mic inside her mouth. you can hear every little glisten of mucus in the back of her throat, it's fucking disgusting. i don't need to hear the saliva splash around between her tongue and cheeks every time she opens her mouth. good fucking god, honestly. wrap-up: just more bland electronica for elevators and hotel lobbies. 2/5.
Peaked with the first track, and not much for me after that.
Daft punk took two ambiens and a bottle of wine and this is what happened
Not bad, it just wasn't for me. "All I Need" was a banger tho.
Sexy Boy reminded me of every film from 20 years ago. Everything else served as good background music. Nothing much to return to here.
Good transcendental vibes.
ok
In general, I don't listen to much techno. Unfortunately, this won't really change my mind much.
Eh. Not sure why this is on the list.
Jazzy. Pretty good.
Ambient soundtrack stuff, a few highlights but ultimately pretty boring.
Not really aged that well…
some nice moments in here. Got bored after 4 tracks
2.5
Me dio sueño.
Not good enough to justify 2 albums by Air on this list
Groove armada-ish
Meh.
Inoffensive background music. Nothing special or incredibly interesting to me.
It's okay. Not my thing. I do like how the sound works together, definitely sounds different compared to other electronica stuff I recall from around the same time. Atmospheric. But still not my thing. Favourite track: "Talisman"
-damn really vibing with the first song although it is long and has no words -I KNOW SEXY BOY!!! -i vibed with it overall i dont like the vocals but i dont think thats supposed to be the focus, i really loved the instrumentals
French electro pop - like the stuff you'd hear in a pretentious wine bar in the 90s. "Sexy Boy" stand out track and a favourite of channel 4 dramas.
Good couple of chill out songs rest is meh
Should be called "An audible manifestation of the French work ethic" or "Daft Punk for Elevators"
Like it was nice sounds, but I wouldn't necessarily call it music.
why another air album? We wonder
“Moon Safari” by Air (1998) Robot music with flashes of beauty. Spare barely-lyrics, apparently designed to briefly and very occasionally engage the mind. Some nice bass guitar work over colorful percussion, with electrojazz keyboards. But the keyboard arrangements are relatively simple and soulless right-hand paste ups. Chord structures are inelegant and repetitive. This is music to listen to when your brain is doing something else. Emotional engagement is minimal, mostly as a spectator sport. “Sexy Boy” feels like it was written about a male love doll or a Steely Dan. Vocals by Beth Hirsch (“All I Need”, “You Make It Easy”) are very engaging. Actually these two tracks stand apart on this album, relegating the electronic music to the background where, frankly, it belongs. Excellent tuba (I kid you not) solos by Patrick Woodcock on “Ce Matin-là”. Overall, though, this album does not inspire. 2/5
eh
Daft Punk, Electronic, 90s EDM has never been my thing. Obviously some people like it. It's a total snooze for me.
Weird, not horrible. Sort of Daft Punk before Daft Punk I guess? Not my thing but not terrible.
-I can hear the influence on other music, but this isn't really drawing me in -"talisman" is spy music -I don't really know when I would listen to this again -"Le Voyage de Penelope" was good
Some interesting stuff, but mostly sounded like bad 1980s movie soundtrack drivel
Really not something I'd listen to normally. Kinda ambient, downtempo electronica. First track sounds like a movie OST. Actually makes for great background music while working but nothing really jumps out as something I'd go back to. Last track sounds like a sci-fi alien/robot sex scene.
Not really my thing. Glad I heard it, though.
Just didn't do it for me. I had somewhat high expectations and was kind of underwhelmed. The whole album was just meh.
it was okay, didn't have the mood of their later virgin suicides album but had more approachable arrangements as well
No. This is bad. Too experimental. Not good.
About as exciting as a safari on the moon. "Oh shit look... another rock!!"
Realmente malo, aburrido.
poop
Tää nyt ei rehellisesti lähtenyt yhtään, ei mun tyylistä musaa. Itse laulua todella vähän ja muutenkin tuli lähinnä mieleen hissimusiikki
The name of this band tells you everything you need to know about their music. Air, and nothing but
I truly do not get the hype. French dudes pressing buttons. Nothing feels revelatory or transformational, just sort of atmospheric. Like a school project in places.
0/10, not vibing with instrumentals
Noioso
Not these wankers again. Pfft
Nordisk
Remember
Possibly the worst thing I have ever forced myself to listen to. It’s like a bunch of music school students said “I have an idea. What if we took the trippy instrumental part of a Pink Floyd song and made it the whole song?” And someone else said “we could make it the whole album!” And then someone asked “what about lyrics?” And the answer came back “we can repeat these 4 words over and over “for effect”” and they all said “genius!” And then they did this. Ugh. Just no.
Can’t believe someone would listen to this more than once. And the first time, they must have forced themselves to.
Weird album, very chill, but almost sounded like lift music when I began tuning out, which was quite often. There is nothing wrong with it but i couldn't get into it, so it's a 1/5 for me. Kelly Watch the Stars was probably pick of the bunch for me in an innocuous album
sucked
not for me
😬
Bored
Definitely not for me. Not a huge fan of electric/techno and paired with the lack of lyricism was not my cup of tea. I did think some of the melodies were complex and I can see why someone would appreciate this music, but I would never seek to put it on.
Knew some Songs! It’s Fine to Listen to, But Not really my vibe
Not what I was expecting … 🤷🏼♀️
S'il vous plaît, mon Dieu, non.
Nothing here particularly unique. Instant background music. Maybe that’s the point? Musically, aside from the annoying vocals, it’s put together well enough but just doesn’t do really do anything that isn’t done better elsewhere. I erred between a 1 and a 2 for that reason, but the longer it went on the more annoyed I got. So, 1.
didn’t really like it
it was okay
Used to like this, did not today
It was okay, not my type of music
Not my kind of thing. I couldn't wait for this to be over
Do not really like electronic music I want to hear singinggggg
Radio 2 before it went 'cool'. Insipid background music.
More wine bar wanker music.
Not my guy
Better off staying on earth!
#29 Kinda interesting but eh 🫤
Malísima para mis gustos
Existential space age instrumental nonsense.
tried hard but difficult to enjoy and listen to. Struggled to finish it
Bleh. This was pretty boring. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but I won't return. Sometimes it felt like noise. Actual rating...1.5 Liked Songs: "Sexy Boy" , "Talisman" , "You Make It Easy" , "Ce matin-là"
Ambient music
Lame
Not a huge fan. This album made me feel like I had just done a bunch of ketamine and was lying on the floor with a pounding headache after the come down. Some of the songs were fine, but I would need to be in a very specific state and mood to actively seek out this album or music off of it.
Not a fan. Really struggled to listen to this. It did not grab me at all and was sleepy sounding.
Literally just noise that is vaguely cool for about 5 seconds per 5 minute song. Sucks megacockalis.
good ambient music, a bit forgettable but the instrumentation was good!
Poncy
I’ve delayed this long enough. The Friday album can be a tough sell. I know I won’t get another one til Monday, so if it appears to be a stinker sometimes it linger until Monday. When I get what appears to be an electronics album that played in malls in 1998? You best believe that puppy is still sitting pretty on Monday morn, 8 am sharp. French music. Allons-nous. La femme d’argent - Meh. I kind of thought this would be straight dance music, so the funky little organ solo is fun. There are certainly elements I can enjoy here, but the bones of the song have just bored me thus far. This is lame. Sexy Boy - Shawn Michaels theme? No. Oh god. It’s somehow worse than that. I wondered to myself how long it would take for me to get mad at this album. I somehow knew repetition was on the cards and by gum, here we are. This is like when your younger sibling keeps making the same noise on a road trip. I have rediscovered petulant, juvenile rage. All I Need - Whoa! Beth Hirsch!!! Household name. Wow. As I attempt to regain my composure after the shock of this electrifying celebrity cameo, I ponder the “artistic” movement of lame background music featuring female vocalists with heavy accents. Maybe it was fresh in 1998, but now? Pretty trite. Kelly Watch the Stars - Well. You heard them. Kelly? Get on it. We need to identify one new star by the end of this shit. Considering that it’s never ending, you may be exploring the cosmos for awhile. Talisman - Why are there weird spiritual emojis coming up when I write “Talisman”and I can’t get a decent walrus emoji? This is the problem with the world. Too much white, co-opted spirituality and not enough big beefed up walruses covered in tusk wounds. Another problem with the world? Bad electronic music meant to be played performative on expensive record players in in-fills in gentrified areas of major cities. Remember - Fuck you. You Make it Easy - BAM! Beth is back everybody! If you love mediocre singing and hearing the saliva separate from the top of a person’s mouth, you’re going to love the Hirschster. Not my favourite personally, but hey, something for everyone. Ce matin-lá - Quiet everybody, if we don’t make a noise, maybe they’ll make some foreground music. I’m dozing off. New Star in the Sky - Holy shit, Kelly came through. That is what we in the business call a “call back.” Oh sorry, I must have had voice to text on. I’m training my call centre on a new gravy based scam. We start the old folks home circuit this afternoon and it’s crunch time. You get em interested in the envelope gravy, get em all riled up and then BAM. Hang up. Give it 15 minutes, call em back. Works every time. Le voyage de Pénélope - “Penelope’s trip” for the uninitiated. Come along and ride with me on a shambolic voyage. I see a lot of French reviews on this website. I try to read them for practice and I do alright. I admire the French for their attitudes towards wage slavery, their love of the arts, and their general passion as a society. Even in my country, the Quebecois and Acadian populations are some of the last holdouts in an increasingly Americanized Canada. This album, however? C’est dégoûtant malheureusement. If I never hear it again, I will consider myself a lucky man. Now where’s my walrus emoji? 1 HIGHLIGHTS: Lundi Lundi
Fender Rhodes...yuck.
Muzak
elevator music, feel like I'm on hold second song better but very repetitive Track 7 only listenable song Headphones died to save me from finishing it
I thought they would have more songs that I would enjoy. Sexy Boy, which was also on the 10 Things I Hate About You sound track, was the only song I enjoyed.
Super well composed, I can see the art to it for staging "downtempo" music in the late 90s. Maybe it's just the space I'm in today, but it makes me personally want to bang my head on my desk? Weirdly gives me a headache? Listened twice while ~working~, does nothing for me, don't have the patience to return to it.
Do not like electronic music.
With the exception of the first track, this album is nearly indistinguishable from every other 90's electronic dance album on this list.
I think it's safe to say that ambient electronic music has no place in my record collection.
Standout Songs: All I Need You Make It Easy Yeah please no more of whatever that was, I don’t like electronic music like that at all
… nah.
I did not like this. Recognised that one song from 10 Things I Hate About You, which is one of my favourite films of all time, but other than that, I don't think I find this particular type of 90s electronica enjoyable. Will not be listening again.
על הפנים
זה חרא של לובי של מלון
Not for me.
There really needs to be an option for no stars.
Some of the most boring and pointless music I've ever heard.
No
Back to back albums by Air. Of all the albums ever released this duo has released two I need to hear before I die? I don’t think so. It’s just…..ok.
Cet album n'est pas bon et il est en français. Pourquoi est-il même sur cette liste ?
Experiment sons
huge no. bored
Terrible. DNF. 1 star
This was arguably the worst album Ive had to endure. Wish I could give it negative stars.
Made my headache worse. DNF
Sikkert ret god at sove til, men ellers ret kedelig
Forgettable
Turned it off
Average electronic synth
Not a one but they were pushing it for a while. Actually we'll go one.
Yeah elevator music. Don’t do it for me.
A but trippy…
Melodic.. Kraftwork go where these guys try to. But fail.
Sorry Zachary, this wasn’t for me. Similar to Daft Punk this group captures that synthwave dream like sound but the basic beats and lack of flair just didn’t draw me in. I don’t think a gummy would have changed my opinion. 🥇Talisman 🥈New Star in the Sky 🥉 Sexy Boy
0/5
Nope
I don't like French electropop and it's way too slow, like this reminds me of when we go to La Noce but the band is bad
Not into techno dance electronic synth pop
So white it hurts
Meh. Not my jam.
Not very good
Tärkeintä, ettei näytä hölmöltä.
I didn't suffer for about 10 seconds in total listening to this. Not my style AT ALL
I just can't get into this type of music. I'm glad there are people that can and do, though.
Boring album overall
This nearly put me to sleep.
1.5
This album leans too much on being, what I think it wants to be, a chill sci-fi-soundtrack-like album. Unfortunately, it leans highly on that description to the point where it just sounds boring and has nothing noteworthy whatsoever. Whether it would be that weird vocoder stuff, the constant bleep-bloops (don't know about ya’ll but that’s what I heard, and Beth Hirsch’s honestly grating voice, I can't pinpoint what I exactly hate about this album. Although, I did like the orchestra part in "Tailsman", but other than potentially going for what it wants, I guess that’s all the positives.
so. incredibly. repetitive.
i don't like it
Thought it was boring when it came out and still feel the same.
I don’t listen to EDM like ever 🤷🏼
Boring
Bad
Honestly, I was just bored. Felt like music for a video game menu. Mixed well, but couldn’t even move to it.
Ugh, another electronic album. It's not bad but definitely not in the mood for it today.
Kabbelende ellende
“Sounding like a digital ELO."
not interested
Not in my top 1000 albums of all time! Even referencing the release date, not sure this one has much wow factor.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
¡Ay! qué chiquitico era y que de cosas aprendí con este disco. Nuestro cerebro es una mierda que hace imposible la objetividad. Aunque puestos a elegir, menos influyente pero a años luz, siempre me parecieron Lemonjelly
1) Smooth, mix is a bit odd, bass is nice, definitely has that 90s feel.
