Reviews (page 7 of 13)

Probably The Doors album I'm least familiar with, but it was pretty great!

Probably more of a 3.5

Based on the first song I thought I wouldn't like this, but it definitely picked up after that. I enjoyed it.

Roadhouse Blues is just a classic and just a fantastic way to open the album. This is the music I can listen to all the time. All of the opening tracks bring energy and feel like classic grooves. The album has some peaks and valleys, but overall a great listen.

Echoes of youth. Classic doors blues vibes

This was a really great collection of bluesy songs that I didn't know. However, there really wasn't anything that made me think, "Oh, this is special and why I love The Doors."

Bluesy and moody. A lot of songs with a maritime theme. I had fun.

Classic records. Will be adding some songs to my playlist

Was ite

De va mycket mer goat än ja hade trott!

Solid groovy songs from later career The Doors (with Jim Morrison, at least)

Loved this album. Less bluesy than I was expecting. The bass is so good throughout. The guitar sounds wonderful and they go in on some super wonky lines like in The Spy. It sounds like they had fun making this one. Favorite track: Easily Peace Frog Least favorite: Land Ho! is one I would have left off the record.

I've listened to The Doors quite a bit, but this was my first time listening to one of their albums from start to finish. I love Jim Morrison's voice; it always has a haunting quality to it, even on songs with less haunting titles, like "Waiting for the Sun." I love the keyboards and how the band seamlessly fuses blues and psychedelic rock. The only strike against these guys for me is that some of their lyrics are a tad too far 'out there' for me (I'm looking at you, "Peace Frog"). Overall though, this is a wonderful album, and a great showcase for the music coming out of California in the 1960's.

The only Doors album I have not heard before. Not sure how it passed me by. It is just as good as most others. Morrison's voice excellent, the band tight and strong. Love it.

pretty well made, not entirely my style though

Jim Morrison was a self-absorbed arrogant prick but this album has some stellar bluesy tracks.

Nice album, matched my expectations

Nobody plays blues rock quite like The Doors. Something about the tone of their guitars and keyboards infuses the music with a dark psychedelic energy. I love it. The highlights here are the rockin' "Roadhouse Blues" and the funky high-energy "Peace Frog." I also liked the serene "Blue Monday." The rest of the album is a fun, unpretentious set of The Doors doing their Doors thing. Really enjoyable.

Classic album by a classic band. One of the best voices in rock and roll (crazy to have this album follow a Queen record!) and the instrumentalists are incredibly tight, inventive, and engaging. "Roadhouse Blues" is a perfect rock and roll song. And a perfect guitar riff. And a perfect album starter. Should definitely be one of the first songs you show to someone who wants to hear rock and roll. I never knew "Peace Frog" was the title of this track! Outside of being a perfect combination of blues/funky rock and roll, it also was perfectly influenced by the time period. I love the trippy~ness of this band and record and it doesn't take anyway any of their edge. For me this is a 4/5. There's just so many good tracks on it.

this shit was fire

My second album on this generator by the Doors. This album, unlike their self titled debut, is much more blues rock forward with less acid induced organ solos. For those reasons, I found that it was a stronger album. Another reason this album is stronger in my mind is because this is their fifth album, so the band had time to settle into their sound. Apparently this was a return to their sound after their fourth album which featured jazz notes with horns and strings, so it was recieved well. Overall, a great album, and one I will definately visit again! Favourite songs: Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, Maggie M'Gill, Land Ho!, You Make Me Real Least favourite songs: Blue Sunday, Indian Summer 4/5

The Doors at their best.

4/5 I don't know why exactly but I actually really enjoyed this. I liked the intensity, the drums, the actual music, and I don't mind Van Morrison's voice. 🫣🤣 It felt like they had "star quality." I listened to Waiting for the Sun three times. I might regret this but I'm giving it a higher score. I feel conflicted about it too because Morrison was abusive and racist etc. I guess the shit men did and said back then was more socially acceptable. Especially for a rock star... 😕

The doors are the doors. Good doors.

I love The Doors!! Classic

Not the sound I was expecting from the doors, overall good. I wish the website allowed for decimal voting 3.75

8/10. I don't really know why I liked this, but I did. Maybe I was just in the right mood for it?

Kinda like if The Rolling Stones were American. 7/10

Klassisk The Doors-album, herlig mix av rock, blues, hard rock.

Rough, dense, down to earth. The teamwork between vocalist and band is credible. A very good rock record which sometimes explaines to me the blend of cheesy croonerism and wifebeater virility that also lingers somewhere between The Divine Comedy or Richard Hawley spiced with an extravaganza that made Fiery Furnaces possible. 3.5

I'd forgotten how bluesy the Doors were, having gotten sidetracked by the big hits that tend to be a lot more psychedelic. Even so, there's elements of that in this album and love how it creates a unique and distinctive sound. Album made for road tripping for sure.

Really good. Organ is very distinctly Doors. Jim Morrison has a very distinct voice, and it echoes on this album. 4.5/5 but could very well be 5/5 after more listens.

Classic album. I don’t have a lot to say about this but I’ve always liked The Doors so this was an enjoyable listen. Probably more like 4.5 stars.

Really good album. Liked the songs in the beginning more than the end

Normally find the blues boring, and whilst this didn't blow me away like some Door's songs have done, it was still a great listen.

4 y medio me gustaría ponerle

This is always referred to as The Doors blues album. I guess that is true in some respects. I have always thought it was a last-ditch attempt to salvage the band (mostly Jim) by going back to basics. The last few years were very eventful for them. We tend to forget that some of the late sixties, early seventies bands were not together very long. There are enduring classics here (Roadhouse Blues and Ship of Fools). More interesting to me are the jazz type excursions and interesting instrumentation (I do like the Fender Rhodes on occasion). It was over soon after this, but makes one contemplate the what ifs.

50+ years later, this still sounds different and original. Not the best Doors album but still a classic.

The songs on here seem to be bluesy or trippy but not both making it an inconsistent listen as compared to the debut album. It was good but not great (like that debut album). I’d give it a 3.5 is possible.

Its a very good example of The Doors' vibe. Lacks anything killer, though.

Good album-has that doors bluesy raspy sound and is a good listen. Not many hits on this record but some quality rhythm and vocals.

okay yeah i can see why the doors are so well-regarded the doors are one of my classic rock blind spots - my dad wasn't too fond of them, so i never heard a ton of the deeper cuts. i grew up with people are strange and touch me, not songs like waiting for the sun. waiting for the sun is immediately one of the coolest songs i've ever heard. it's like if imagine dragons had artistic integrity and lived in the 70s. it's all the good stuff about the type of dramatic pop they make and none of the sellouty-ness of it all. this is just an angry rock record, and it's pretty damn good at it. morrison absolutely kills the keyboards on this one. he's a damn good keyboard player, but he's REALLY in his bag here. legitimately impressive stuff on tracks like peace frog yeah this is good. i'm glad i listened through this one

🚪🚪

Good for doors. Gr8 stuff. But not life changing

Btw meni je Morrison jako zgodan

Another solid classic rock album by the doors. Morrison hotel offers a wide array of instrumentals and styles played throughout. The album is fun and Morrison does a great job singing. Would definitely check this one out again. 7.9/10

The Doors

It sure was the doors, not my usual jam but a classic

The Doors rock!

70s Rock

Doors in the right way! Less psychedelic and more rock n roll and blues. Loved the guitar licks on the album.

What a pleasant surprise after the previous Doors albums: great Blues rock album that doesn't have one or two big hits bit compels with a overall high quality of songs

Waiting for the sun ; indian summer

Good album

Some rock solid Doors, Jim is in fine voice.

Welp, first day, first album. The Doors is a band I have heard of before but never went into listening to them, and I wasn't planning on to until this. This is a quite nice album I will not lie. Ye old classic rock is nice, but not something I enjoy. Indian Summer was the best since it somewhat flipped the switches and was more mellow/acoustic.

Great Energy, this album is another addition to my rotation.

Story book album.

Jim annoys me to no end but at the end of the day, i do like the doors more than i pretend to...

Incredible, but not quite as good as the first three albums due to some generic rock and roll flavour. (4.2)

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Roadhouse blues, Waiting for the sun, Peace frog, The spy

Qui hagués dit que després de 'The Soft Parade', The Doors serien capaços de fer dos discos com 'Morrison Hotel' i 'L.A. Woman'. Aquest va ser el primer dels dos i una tornada a la bona forma de la millor manera possible. Blues rock pesat i potent amb cançons sublims que sobreviuen al temps encara millor que les dels primers discos. I encara ho haurien de millor encara més a la seva última obra...

feel like a cowboy

Love Jim Morrison. What a guy.

Gotta love some 70s blues rock I love how the keys are tuned Kinda metal Consistent vibe

This is my second doors album and I know this was at the end of their career if not their last album. The other album I listened to was their first. Both great albums, but such a change in sound between the two. This was just psychedelic and groovy as hell but it was also rock and and roll and bluesy. All i know was that it sounded pretty fuckin good. 7/10

Love the doors so this was a fun listen

Never heard of the doors and I liked this album. It had a good sound to it. Not normally something I go for but I could appreciate it.

Even better than I remember, another Doors album with surprisingly killer bass work.

Excellent.

This was a fun album.

Decent stay, rooms had character but no bass...boards

Never been a huge Doors guy but I'll take Morrison over Morrisey most days....

While blues as a genre isn't always my thing, I still found my self tapping my feet to most of this album. It started a little shakey, but in the middle I was enjoying myself quite a bit, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the ending song, I still am extremely satisfied with it.

Like this one more than LA woman.

Bluesyyyyyy. JM has such a unique voice. Always seems somewhat monotone but still somehow comes through as emotional. Idk if I've just come to appreciate blues more because I never really vibed with the doors too much but I added a few songs off this album to my spotify.

Good! Variety of tempos on album.

finally an album by the doors

Didn't know what to expect, but i enjoyed it. Like the blues / rock fusion

Doors will never fade away

Another solid Doors album.

Super solid from start to finish Sounds best in a car

This is an excellent rock album but for me just falls short of being a 5-star one.

Keep your eyes road, your hand upon the wheel.... Morrison Hotel contains many Doors classics such as Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, and Land Ho! Other standouts: Blue Sunday, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer, Jim Morrison - gone too soon, but when we need him we can always check into the Morrison Hotel and enjoy the entire catalog.

allright allright allright

Loved this, right in my wheelhouse.

For some reason growing up I was never a big Doors fan, always thinking they were more of "B"-level band. I'd say that changed in the last 15 to 20 years and I appeciate most their music quite a bit. "Morrison Hotel" is the The Doors fifth album and their fifth album in three years. It marked a return to their more blues-style rock from the previous album "The Soft Parade" which encorporated strings and brass (horns). The album is divided into two sides, "Hard Rock Cafe" and "Morrison Hotel." The "Hard Rock Cafe" side has all the hit songs ("Roadhouse Blues," "Waiting for the Sun," "You Make Me Real" and "Peace Frog") and more variety in the music and lyrics. The "Morrison Hotel" side has more songs about love and relationships. The album starts with the blues banger "Roadhouse Blues." How could you not like a song with lyric "I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer." Just a song with a bad-ass vibe featuring John Sebastian on harmonica and Lonnie Mack on bass. Swagger. Swagger. Swagger. "You Make Me Real" was the only single released ("Roadhouse Blues" was the B-side) and is a great combination of the Yardbirds and boogie. Yes! "Peace Frog" has just a great groove and funk with the wah-wah guitar and bass line. Apparently, based on Morrison's poems and personal experience with a car crash and getting arrested in New Hampshire. "Peace Frog" and "Roadhouse Blues" are way up there among my favorite Doors' songs. It's hard to pick out a specific song on the "Morrison Hotel" side. I guess the last two are worth a listen. "Indian Summer" is a love song with only two verses and has a great pyschedelic, Indian-sounding guitar. It's the closest song to "The End" I've heard from them. The last song "Maggie M'Gill" has a nice bluesy start and is kind of a jam. It appears to be about Maggie who had a child with a rock star. Autobiographical? I would put both their debut album and "LA Women" ahead of this album. However, it is absolutely an album worth listening to with a few kickin' songs.

Self titled better

I already knew this is a good one

Non-troglodytic classic rock. Morrison’s got the archetypal rock star voice and mien and the band are so tight and polished behind, even when they are aiming to show rough edges. Opens with an all-time lick and, after a few weaker cuts, excels from “Peace Frog” right through to the end. It all feels fresh and even a bit fun, too. One always worries about the Doors taking themselves a bit too seriously, and one suspected this would have not aged well (one took it so seriously when one was younger, that how could one take it seriously now?) but there’s still a vitality and relevance to the mood and tone. They were in a groove about this time and it plays out to pretty powerful and enjoyable effect overall. And we’ve all had time enough away and one is comfortable enough of his own skin not to not feel embarrassed about liking it now.

One of the most consistent Doors albums, I think. But while it has no real filler, it also kinda lacks in truly glorious and magical moments, save for the two first songs.

Awesome album. I was disappointed with LA Woman and I’m not sure this record is all that different, but it just struck me as more solid. Jim’s voice is legendary.

A much better Doors album than L.A. Woman.

Another band I never gave a chance to. This is awesome. {prior rating} Also rocks a lot better than the later album on this list!

I’m sure I heard it when I was a kid but don’t quite remember. It is a classic alright! My approach to The Doors is mainly via the hits but albums are good alright!

Syns da va ganske bra egentlig. Gøy med litt synth (orgel?)

Great album, loved the mix of psychedelic and blues. Though I think this album just falls short of the masterpiece status of their debut and LA women.

A great album.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I always assumed the doors were more dour and depressing, this shit rocked and was much more up tempo and lively

Enjoyed this

Stomping start but ends with a whimper. Definitely a side 1 side 2 album. Side 2 improves on listening Cover art 4/5

Classic

The greatest soundtrack to a movie that does not exist. Barry Adamson is a maestro. Side note, if you are a fan of the classic, first Bad Seeds album, this should appeal

I'm a sucker for the doors, this is however not their best album. Still got some huge tunes on it.

Very enjoyable to listen to this again!

Great album full of classic songs.

4.4 - Another Doors album I slept on because it contained only some of their slightly lesser hits ("Waiting..." and "Roadhouse Blues"). But this is a great record. What this album doesn't have is some of their meandering explorations (e.g. "The End", "L.A. Woman"), instead showcasing tight song structures mostly under 4 minutes. I love the way the freaky "Peace Frog" flows quietly into the gorgeous "Blue Sunday." The mix of songs shows restraint and balance - there are blues-tinged rockers and pretty ballads.

FULL DISCLOSURE! I love The Doors. While this isn’t their best effort Morrison is undeniably the man and the rest of his merry band sound extra crisp thanks to great production.

Much much better than the last doors album I had to listen to. It has a couple of classics on here and all of the rest of the songs were really good

Another band I never gave a chance to. This is awesome.

Af hverju er Roadhouse blues vinsælasta lagið? Það er bleh. Friðarfroskurinn og Sólarbiðin eru t.d. mun skemmtilegri. Fín plata, betri en ég taldi að hún yrði, Doors eru verri í minningunni en í raun.

Honestly, that was a mostly okay Doors album. Nothing to hate and it's The Doors so there was a lot to like. Problem is, there wasn't much to LOVE. So it gets four stars instead of five.

Geniaal album, blijft prachtig. Vooral natuurlijk roadhouse blues

classic rock and roll!

Iconic

Roadhouse blues is a vibe! love this album so far

There’s a Kids in the Hall sketch where a deranged record store owner tells Kevin McDonald’s character that he won’t know the Doors until he goes on a three week bender, listening to nothing but Morrison Hotel until he finds himself behind the wheel of a stolen car driving into the middle of the desert. I don’t know the Doors THAT well, but I have enjoyed listening to Morrison Hotel.

Starts out Bluesy with, well, Roadhouse Blues - this is the Doors at their best for me. Steady rhythm with commanding vocals and big time harmonica. After roadhouse it dabbles with a few styles and recording effects including old time keys/organ and distortion. Highlights RH Blues, Peace Frog, Maggie MGill. Not as tight as LA woman but still a great listen altogether.

Classic Morrison

As with all Doors albums the heady mix of filthy blues, psychedelia and that great voice and disturbed lyrics creates a great music.

Classic doors, no more no less than expected

Niet de grote hits, maar wel een goed album

My knowledge of The Doors is embarrassingly poor, but this seems like a step away from psych-rock and towards noodley blues.

4/5, blues rock? gimme that.

Best Song: Waiting for the Sun. Maggie M'Gill. Psychedelic, with moments where Morrison lets loose. Worst Song: Land Ho. The whole song sounds restrained. Overall: Bluesy, with a sort of drugged and drunken swagger. Is at its best when Jim Morrison is wild and uninhibited, and at its worst when he tries scatting.

Люблю этих ребят.

Great album....

A nice listen.

I did enjoy this but I feel as if it's something I need to be in a specific mood for. It has that 60s rock sound to a T. I can see how this would be great to listen to while smoking some weed. I just can't see it being something I put on every single time I'm in the car. But for a specific mood or vibe, it's great.

The Doors invite us all to "Morrison Hotel", getting down to brass tacks with dirty blues, sleazy rock and roll and some spectacular songwriting. I've been a casual Doors fan for many years, but have never gone far beyond their self-titled debut, a masterclass in pseudo-intellectual psych. As far as this album, I'd only heard "Roadhouse Blues" a couple of times and didn't realise the ride I was in for. The first thing that hit me was how rip-roaringly tight the band are. "Morrison Hotel" showcases The Doors at their most primal, with Morrison's philosophising toned down and the amps dialled up. Robby Krieger's guitar is searing throughout, and there's really strong interplay between the band- it feels leaner, more developed from their Manzarek/organ-dominated early sound. "Roadhouse Blues" is a raunchy, twisted take on a familiar blues, with the doors blown off and a smoke bomb thrown in. Straight afterwards, "Waiting for the Sun" treats us to a psychedelic assault of fuzzed out bass, with a thick and crunchy sound and a powerful climactic bridge. "Ship of Fools" is the most riotous, swinging apocalypse I could ever hope to be part of, but "Peace Frog" is the real standout for me: boasting a palpable crossover funk flavour, with a classic bit of Jim Morrison poetry seeping in the middle. It had a stronger groove than any other Doors track I've heard, and a killer bassline carrying it for an exhilarating three minutes. Crucially, it's not all rockers here: the band's sensitive side comes out in the understated, plaintive "Blue Sunday". Meanwhile, "Indian Summer" is a gorgeous exercise in restraint, structured almost entirely around one chord until it shifts towards mantra territory. Some may argue this album isn't as innovative or groundbreaking as the band's earlier material: there are no 11 minute odysseys, no Oedipal howls, no spoken word poetry recitals. But in the same way those trademarks can feel stagey and hokey, here the Doors are more grounded, tied to the physical. It's not as though the lyrics are lacking: the doom-laden content of "Peace Frog" and "Ship of Fools" show the band haven't abandoned Morrison's knack for poetry or voicing some of the anxieties of his generation. Altogether, it makes for a dynamic listen which - at its best - is The Doors firing on all cylinders. It lags at times: "The Spy" is a meandering and "Maggie M'Gill" is a poor way to end, but there are so many great songs here and I was surprised by the quality of the material across the rest of the record. Definitely worth a listen for anyone getting into The Doors!

Really nice, bluesy and synthy

Listening to this, I hear where a lot of more contemporary bands got their sound; while some tracks seem to meander, the album is strong overall and certainly reminiscent of its time.

Classic

This is the 100th album I’ve been served by the wonderful 1001 project (big thank you!). To celebrate this, here is my first review. For sure it will make some people happy. Apart from a few songs, the Doors were actually unknown territory for me. I was prepared for some tedious stuff but this turned out to be a lovely collection of bluesy tunes. If I need to pick a favourite, it is 'Waiting for the Sun'. A quite enjoyable album for the Sunday afternoon indeed. Ok, it’s not anywhere near the level of ‘Siamese Dream’, but man what a relief after yesterday’s unlistenable ‘A Wizard/A True Star’!

Influences are undeniable, both who they were influenced by and who they influenced. Last half of Land Ho! sounds like Cameron Winter lol Already Saved: Roadhouse Blues Saved After Listening: Waiting for the Sun*, Blue Sunday, Ship of Fools, Land Ho!

old school cool white people blues

return to form

It’s hard to top the doors

Not the doors best but still some classic tunes on here

Doors sliding spectacularly into blues.

Ah, a test of my Doors fandom. Aside from the self-titled, I think I have only listened to some greatest hits albums prior to this. This is a solid album too. It includes some of the recognizable for hits for me, like Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog. A bit more blues influence in this one, which isn't bad, though maybe less interesting to me than the psychedelics. Not as memorable as the self-titled, but a great and enjoyable album nonetheless. Favorite tracks: Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools, Blue Sunday. Album art: Another fantastic one from the Doors. Not just a band photo, but the band posing like a shot from some wicked '70s thriller. Once again, Jim Morrison's narcissism on full display, which is hilarious. Bright white shirt, smolder, and you just know he picked the spot for the name. 4/5

Cool mash of blues and psych rock

i love the rhythm and experimentation with tempo on this record, it has such a good first half too. Blue Sunday is my fav track but will 100% need to listen to this more.

love it.

good but not great, some of the tunes are filler, but the good tunes (roadhouse blues, you make me real and peace frog) are really well made and stand the test of time. 7/10

Loved it.

All hail the Lizard King!!!!!!!!!!!

My vinyl of this bad boy was chewed up to shreds. I searched high and low for it. The continual snap-crackle-pop made it difficult to listen to and I expect I may have sent it off to heaven a decade or so ago. This much wear and tear on an album is a badge of honour. Sure Roadhouse Blues and Peace Frog are insane but the song with the second lowest number of listens by Spotify's count is Ship of Fools which is also an amazing song. This album is raw and sounds like it was made to play live. Since I'm a big Doors fan, I need to reign in my "5s for all y'all" instinct. By way of comparison, while I quite like the line "When I was back there in seminary school . . . " on The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel is superior by a long shot. But it just isn't in the same league as their first album.

There's quite a mix of moods on this LP. The bluesy feel of Roadhouse, Maggie M’Gill, the funky protest Peace Frog, up against ballads and more run of the mill, 60s Doors songs. I think their following album was more consistent, but it doesn’t have the line "woke up this morning and got myself a beer". Could this sound be a little over the hill for its time? Spotify seemed to be implying that when it queued up The Stooges "Be your Dog" after this LP finished - something that came out a year earlier in 69!!!

The Doors are great sometimes or, for me at other times, they can be a miss. Personally, never liked "Light my Fire," but always loved "L.A. Woman." This album has a lot of blues elements, and it falls into the great Doors category.

good listen

Feels surprisingly modern for many songs, great vibes

Another fantastic album by The Doors. After their failure of Soft Parade, they returned to their initial sound, relying on psychedelic sound and poetic lyrics. This time many songs demonstrate a shift toward blues right that would be fully explored in LA Woman. "Peace Frogs" is a favorite of mine, but many of the tracks are great in their own ways. Some can be considered weaker until you listen to the fitting lyrics. Probably my 3rd favorite Doors album, maybe tied with Strange Days.

Everything there is to say about this album has already been said. Diverse and utterly compelling.

Constantly surprising and interesting - low key weird as hell, in a good way. Waiting for the Sun is a great track

Not my favorite Doors album, but with Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Queen of the Highway, and Peace Frog, this is still a very strong album. As always, Ray Manzarek's keyboard work is incredible. I'm also a fan of Robbie Krieger's guitar work.

I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer. Mostly great album, has all the things I like about The Doors and only a bit of what I hate. Why they followed the stellar “Land Ho!” with the meandering “The Spy” is beyond me, but otherwise it’s pretty solid.

Blues-rock

Pretty classic

I like all of the songs on this album. I actually really like Jim Morrison's voice, it's very mysterious sounding and I think that's what draws me in to this band. Plus, I love the organ sound that they often used.

Love some of the songs on this album. Some are arduous.

Gutes Album! Wenn auch ohne die großen Hits

Кроме Waiting for the Sun, но этот трек я помню из-за того, что за 2 года до Morrison Hotel у The Doors был альбом Waiting for the Sun, где трека этого не было. Подобная бестактность обескураживает. На памяти аналогичным примером предстаёт дискография Queen, где спустя годы после альбома Sheer Heart Attack на альбоме News of the World выходит трек Sheer Heart Attack.

All american music. Vielleicht nur nach den letzten Alben aber viel eingängiger als erwartet

Like the previous Doors album from this list it's simply a very good album. Not much more to say - just good music.

More variety than I was expecting, I quite enjoyed it all.

Wonderful.

Peace frog is the standout, some good bluesy jams, complicated songs too

Loved the bluesy feel on that first track. The staccato piano was refreshing and a fantastic opener. Same with ‘You Make Me Real’, guitar was brilliant on this one. Stand out for me was Peace Frog. Reminded me of The Charlatans with that crazy back beat. Very ‘Mad’chester, right up my street. Blue Sunday was also a welcomed calm before jittery Ship of Fools. Overall, really happy with this, tough to rate properly with a quick listen but I’ll go with a solid 4/5.

Hadn’t listen to this in years. Wasn’t one that I thought of as being up there amongst their best when comparing to the first 3 albums but really enjoyed it. Peace Frog a stand out but almost rate the more bluesy standards such as road house and I’m a spy

Roadhouse blues

Again a sound all of their own, a little too experimental to be a 5 though

Solid, nice n bluesy at the extremities with rock n roll center. Favorite was probably You Make Me Real, followed by Peace Frog (but what a title!)

Surprisingly Western, Definitely "Heroin-Feel"

roadhouse blues, magic mac gill, queen of the hadway

This album fucking rules and will always rule.

good!!!!

The Doors have not weathered as well as one might have expected. It will be interesting to see if Nirvana suffers the same "fall from grace." With that said, this is their 2nd best, after their eponymous debut. "Peace Frog," alone makes this a solid 4.

There’s no holier storm like Morrison, piano, guitar, and harmonica. A bit more honky tonk than I expected

First real listen to The Doors outside of House of the Rising Sun. I love their dirty, raw, bluesy rock. I get why they got so famous! I enjoyed the raw outtakes at the end of the 40th anniversary version of this album. The Frog song stood out the most to me, and I think Side A is stronger overall than Side B.

Pretty darn good.

Finally one I already know really well.

The doors go bluesy. Didn’t realise how much I like the doors as I scarred myself as a child by listening to some of Jim Morrison’s drug fuelled poetry and therefore avoiding their music aside from the well known tracks. Enjoyable to hear again

The Doors are good. This album was okay

You’re only supposed to blow the bloody Doors off!

Not bad but really not a genre for me.

Bestial

This is right up my alley. Love it! I haven't really heard much of this album before, so it's like getting new Doors material. It's actually not that Doors'ey, they're very simple songs, bluesy stuff. Yes, love it.

Good old classic rockin blues

Really enjoyed this. My jam.

Very good album with some classics

Okay, I went into this album expecting to dislike it because of my general disdain for Jim Morrison. Honestly, I thought it was a pretty fun album. Morrison's attempts at poetry bog it down at times, but the music is great throughout. 4/5

Enjoyed the bluesy nature

Say what you will about Morrison being a bit pretentious, he and the other fine gentlemen of The Doors knew how to write a song. Fantastic blues rock with a very energetic performance. Two songs ("Indian Summer", "Queen of the Highway") feel superfluous. Favorite tracks: "Roadhouse Blues", "Peace Frog", "The Spy", "Maggie M'Gill"

I've yet to hear a perfect Doors album, but they're clearly a band that has the ability to pull one off. The moment that convinces me of that fact in Morrison Hotel is the build-into-change in the middle of Waiting for the Sun. The rest of the A-side immediately appeals as well, while the backside is sparser in its spots of beauty. Powerful closer, though. I'm not sure if my feelings about The Doors make me too hard or too easy on them. The day I can rock out to an entire LP without thinking is when I'll know for sure.

7/10 FT: Queen of the highway

THE DOORS! YES THAT INTRO!

Good album. A few classic songs here.

Would anyonne care if this album was by someone else and not the doors? It's a good kind of bluesy rock album but nothing spectacular IMO

From 1960 Newport to 1970 LA - this was a step from Muddy Waters, yet with the clear bluesy feel throughout I’m sure he was an influence. It took me awhile to get into the album - but also seemed like the album took awhile to get into self bouncing from the hyper peace frog to moody blue Sunday to a swashbuckling ship of fools and land ho. I did enjoy it but I’m not sure it exactly cleansed the doors of my perception. I am keen to explore more of their work though. Peace frog, Queen of the highway, Indian summer, blue Sunday and the spy were my favourites.

Just not for me honestly, though its also a little bland

Good album. it's no LA Woman or Strange Days, But good enough

I liked this one better than LA Woman, but something’s still just not totally clicking for me. Maybe I’m going in with too many expectations. Maybe it’s just not my thing! Idk! Regardless of the music though, one of the great joys of this challenge has been reading stories about Jim Morrison. Matty Healy WISHES he could get arrested on stage.

Pretty good! overall I prefer their self titled and quite like the piano. Although I do wish it was a grand piano instead of whatever they chose instead.

j'ai un peu de mal à distinguer une musique d'une autre , excellente ambiance tho, me fait me sentir comme dans un film de type western musicalement c'est assez agréable *** je me suis arrêté à "spy" parce que j'allais manger (à finir )

Second album for me on this list by the Doors. It is weird how they have the famous songs, which are all psychedelic and poetic, and then the rest is just Bluesy Rock Made by Hairy White Men in the Seventies. As BRMBHWMITS goes, it's not bad, but as usual, I don't feel listening to the amount of it that appears on this list is really enriching my life very much.

I liked one single song from this album. Indian summer

Quite fun and classic

It’s fine. There are some strong tracks but also some filler. You can tell they were in a hurry to put The Soft Parade behind them.

fun, but not my type

I enjoy a bit of The Doors with The Strange Days album. This one was ok, maybe it's a grower. Maybe it'll get a chance to do so. It certainly sounded like The Doors

Why does he sound like Ringo at points? The album is alright, I don't love it and I feel that with a 2nd listen I liked it less. It has a very unique sound and generally speaking it does flow well. I find the keyboard instrumentation becomes very irritating very quickly. I don't think I'll be giving this a 3rd listen anytime shortly Fab Track: Waiting for Sun

I think the Doors are overrated. Morrison is a bit of a jerk. Actually more than a bit. Lots of songs sound blues based The Spy is a good song. Morrison’s voice sounds shot. None of the other songs stand out. Average album. Three stars.

I'm not a massive doors fan, a lot of times it strolls along aimlessly too long I feel. This record is different though, feels really focused. Strong songs all throughout, a classic 70's record

Why is it that every artist of this era that includes a Blues song always has to have Blues in the title specifically? People don't do that with Rock, or Electronic, or whatever. Otherwise, good album. Some great production, very rich voice on Morrison, and overall fun enough. Didn't exactly blow me away though - I do like the Doors generally but it's a sound that suffers a bit in this format. Fav tracks: You Make Me Real, Peace Frog, Queen of the Highway

The opening track is a pretty mediocre blues rock to me . As I mentioned previously in my LA woman review, I prefer the Doors more psychedelic side. That's why Waiting for the sun is much more to my liking. The sound of the verses with the contrast to the choruses is great. 3 is a fun track. No offense to this one. 4 is a good one as well. Has some interesting turns. The second half reminds me of the mysterious nature of their debut album. Great Nice work between guitar and keyboard on Ship of Fools. Great drumming aswell (as in all of the album so far.). Interesting exchanges between darkness and light on track 6. While i prefer the darker side I appreciate the experimentation of the track. The Spy is a nice but not an impressive track. It's good but not memorable. Queen of The Highway is a great little sixties track. Liked this one a lot. Track 8 is my favorite here probably. Just what I want from the doors. A mysterious magical tune with magical guitar lines. Wish it was much longer. Unfortunately the closer is a pretty mediocre rock tune. Not much to write about. I must say I'm very impressed and pleased with this album. The Doors as their whole are probably not really my kind of band (I absolutely love their debut album, as mentioned), but this one contains enough of reasons to like it a lot. Have to mentione as well that the band sounds amazing. They all play great, especially guitar and drums. With keyboard had more place to shine. Really hoped for that. Unfortunately not so. I gave LA woman a 2 , which was a bit harsh. But still think it's a flawed album in many many ways. About the Doors self titled. I just looked And saw that that I gave it a 4 in my 24f review in the game. Today I wonder if it should be a 5. It's a really special one. I think this one deserves a high 3 overall. Ill keep it as that . Have a great day.

Pretty good, too much organ

I’ve heard this before. I don’t own it but it’s in my dad’s collection, so I heard this a lot growing up. I went through all of the Doors albums within the past year or so and I recall this one having some good tracks and not being as cringey as some of their other more ridiculous lizard king ramblings. There are some banger tracks on here and some weaker ones. Some lyrics are goofy but the only truly ridiculous ones are in Peace Frogs with his “fragile eggshell mind” line that he used in a couple at least one other song because he really thought he had something special there. There’s a few songs where the band seems to be reusing lines from their first album, you could chalk this up to being part of their “return to form” after The Soft Parade but it could also mean they were just out of ideas.

I don't even need to listen to this. Unless the song is "The End," and it's 1992, and I've been ripping bong hits for several hours in the Georgia heat, anything done by the Doors immediately ranks as mid.

Peace Frog may be the only Doors song that doesn't sound dated to me. It's great. And I still like Roadhouse Blues. The rest is typical Doors filler. Adds up to a 3.

3/5 - I'm rarely excited to hear a song by The Doors. Peace Frog is an exception.

Enjoyed the first half that felt more bluesy than the more mellow sounds in the second half. Liked You Make Me Real and Peace Frog.

I like The Doors quite a bit. I wouldn’t call myself a fan per se, seeing as Morrison Hotel seems like an essential album of theirs and this is my first time listening. I’ve heard a few of these tracks just out in the wild. All together, I’d say it’s very good stuff, but not quite as triumphant as their self titled or LA Woman. I’ll give this a few more listens.

CIA music goes kinda hard. I enjoyed it

Very doors. Not my favourite band, but it's not bad. Ultimately a 3, no single track stands out as anything I would go back to, but I'm reserving 1s and 2s for things which are actively bad.

First half was good, but then it was boring

First half was good. Lost momentum

not my current taste kinda contry

Morrison Hotel is a return to form for the band back to their loud and proud sound like on their debut album. This album really shows just how much this band loves their organ because they use the ever-living shit out of it on this album. I think that this album really excels in a much more appealing "fun factor" that some other albums like Waiting for the Sun and Strange Days really lack. I do think that the song compositions are dumbed down a lot, but made into nice easy tracks to digest. For example look at Peace Frog and tell me that song isn't an absolute banger, or the very black sheep Indian Summer that feels way to cool and relaxing for this project. It is also kind of funny to me that Waiting For The Sun didn't even make it onto the album of that title but instead was saved for 2 albums to be put on this project. I guess it was too good to be used up then and wanted to be saved for a much better project? All in all Morrison Hotel is a project that shows that The Doors can go back to their original sound if they want to, but they choose to continue being weird and thriving in their own experimental lane.

Its an ok album but would have preferred to listen to their first album as it has more recognisable songs. either way, this still feels a bit too bluesy for me

It was interesting to listen to, since it's not what I usually listen to, it reminded me of one of my brother who actually recommends songs like these to me. For me 2.5/5 Objectively: 3.7/5

Fav Songs Waiting for the sun - This song is sickk Solid album, Not one bad song but probably about a 6.5 for me, I just like something abit more faster paced. If I liked this type of music more I would probably bump up the rating because it does its job perfectly.

I have grown up with a strong dislike for The Doors, perhaps based unfairly on songs like Light My Fire and others with excessive and ultimately annoying keyboard solos. However, I have to say this one surprised me a tad. I did struggle to separate my inherent prejudice against the band and listen to the music objectively. Perhaps I needs a second listen, but I really don’t want to. Better than expected.

Some ear-catching guitar work but also pretty plodding. I can’t decide if Land Ho! is hokey or hearty.

= The Beatles there are a few greats on here but overall...

Favorite Track: Blue Sunday

This was fine. I am not unfamiliar the Doors, but I also don't really ever find myself turning to them to fill the silence. Can never go wrong with the keys. Some nice bluesy rock. Some nice chilled down moments.

not really their best album... again, one doors album should be enough on this list

I enjoyed this more when it sounded closer to classic blues rock and less when it sounded like The Doors

Didn't like it as much as I did when I first heard it, but still a pretty good time overall.

"Roadhouse Blues" and "Peace Frog" were absolute bangers. I love Jim Morrison's voice, it's so clean and elegantly American. The subject matter of this album is so uniquely post-hippy as well. It came out one year after the iconic Summer of '69. It's got themes of materialism, monogamy, American maritime, and the music is heavily influenced by Blues. It's not my favorite Doors album, but it's definitely not the worst on this list so far. 7/10

70's rock has never been my thing, but it was cool to listen to such a legendary band for the first time. not a fan of the organ or his singing voice, sadly. favourite song: indian summer

An incredibly cool album from start to finish. Love the bluesy rock and roll sound. Some great guitar riffs, I found my foot tapping and head bopping throughout a lot of this. A solid 3.5/5.

Good but not cake-taking, it's a decent rock album for listening with some extra excitement in the first few tracks

The album is fine overall, I really just am not a fan of the 60’s organ sound that is in everything. It sounds so goofy to me and I don’t get why it’s everywhere.

already listened to the doors but I haven't heard this album before

It's not bad, it sounds like the kind of music my dad and nonno listen to though. Not really my kind of thing

buen ritmo

Was expecting something... more? It was not boring, don't get me wrong, but I was left wanting more.

Not bad

bluesy and groovesy i think i like their other albums more tho

Meh, it was fine. Nothing too significant or special here.

Not the best Doors i have heard

Bah franchement ? pas mal. ça s'écoute bien

peace to all my frog homies 3.5 que baja a 3

It wasn't bad but none of the songs really stuck with me if I am being honest. I walked around Denver near my house after work and it made for some pleasant walking around music.

strong start, got bored as it went on

A curates album. (Good in parts)

I’ve long appreciated The Doors for just a few songs, so I was hoping to discover more to like here. I just found myself frustrated. Jim Morrison has such a wonderful voice when it’s used well. His vocals on Waiting for the Sun and Blue Sunday are great examples. Then there’s others like Roadhouse Blues and Maggie M’Gill where it’s just kind of wretched. Those two, You Make Me Real, and Land Ho! are all terrible. When I can stand the vocals, even some of those songs aren’t that great. There’s nothing here on the level of Light My Fire, The End, People Are Strange, The Crystal Ship, etc. I can’t see this being anyone’s favorite Doors album. If it is, I probably don’t need to see the rest of their record collection. The lightest of 3s.

The spy is groovy as shit and maggie M grill Crazy groves There are some low lights for me, sometimes Jim singing feels lazy, Not my favoruite album but there are songs in here I have never before and they are awesome

En del riktigt bra låtar, men känner verkligen att The Doors är ett band där det räcker att lyssna på greatest hits

Coolt ändå även om jag inte helt föll för helheten.

Stark trea.

It's very fine. Gets sleepier as it goes on.

Muy bueno, no del todo mi estilo pero un clasico

Almost a 4

i LOVED the doors in high school. some memories are best left in the past. edit post listen: this is less cringe than i had expected. maybe that's just nostalgia.

Well that happened. It was better than expected but nothing to write home about.

Cool bluesy vibe. Some nice sounds between saucy guitar/ bass licks and that organ that features heavily throughout. The more energetic and up-tempo songs appeal to me more but like it overall. Vocals have a smooth old-timey and nostalgic sound to them. Feels like an album to drink a beer to.

Está realmente bien, pero la verdad que no me parece tan relevante o que aporte nada, como para quitarle el sitio a algún otro album de algún grupo más desconocido. Es decir, estoy seguro que están el The Doors y el LA Woman, con esos nos bastaba

This must have been cool back then, but I think it sounds kind of banal today. It did not age as well as some other albums from the era.

i like the doors but there's a reason my only record is a compilation album. fav: peace frog

Honestly didn't like this one as much as my last Doors album. Less hits (Roadhouse Blues is great) and more oddly-structured organ-heavy anthems that tend to drag. Some good and some bad. Overall 2.5 to 3 out of 5

I find The Doors a bit overrated. First and last tracks were really good but I could take or leave the rest.

This isn't the Doors best effort, good but not what I would call great.

1970 American rock

Not bad, overall stronger album than L.A. Woman

album #40 definitely enjoyed this more than LA Woman. Some real fun moments throughout, and the vocals in maggie m'gill are pretty cool. as i said with LA woman, there is simply better blues rock out there. jim morrison is very clearly carried by the musicians he surrounds himself with, and you could easily replace him and there would be little difference. i liked some of it, but i do not think this deserves its place on the list! ꩜ average track rating: 2.9/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): roadhouse blues, maggie m'gill ꩜ least favourite track(s): indian summer, the spy ꩜ album rating: ★★★☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,049 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 24 ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 9 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 31

Blues is not a sound I associate with The Doors at all, but I think the style suited their voices and musical talent. The album was missing something for me, although I enjoyed my listen overall! Favorite tracks: You Make Me Real Peace Frog Land Ho! Indian Summer

Not a bad album at all. I enjoy the Doors. This one isn't their best in my opinion though, but very listenable.

Not bad but very samey

It was just ok. The doors are good but not great.
