Reviews (page 9 of 13)

Blues influence on some but not all of the tunes. Standout were "Roadhouse Blues" and "Peace Frog". Nothing bad but just kind of a middle of the road album for me.

I want you to steal a car, get in it, and drive west. Play the tape full blast. When the tape ends, get out, get into a fight. Then get back into the car, come to town and meet me at the Cargas club. I will let you into the most prestigious hotel of all time. The Morrison Hotel. Doors fans aren't made. They are born.

Ok Doors

Reliably serviceable album from the blues rock behemoths, I need to listen to more intently again but the first couple of tracks in particular were captivating and impressive. Never going to be my favourite band though.

Classic Doors album. Great throughout

This was put out a few months before I was. I think I’ve aged a bit better than this album has. Granted, there are a couple of undeniable classics here and I somehow was taken by “Land Ho” (while recognizing that it’s the cheesiest song on here). Bit mostly these songs are like coleslaw - expired shortly after production. 2 classics gets you a 3

Parts of this feel a little bit like they could be in an episode of Twin Peaks

Есть несколько хороших песен. И энергичные, и мелодичные. Выделяется Waiting For The Sun. Но вообще посредственность.

sorry I just don’t care I’m a grown woman now I don’t care what jim morrison’s drunk ass has to say

a few good songs

Turns out, I'm not a fan of The Doors

Solid Album I remember in 1979 just loving Van Halen's eponymous debut album and an older kid, whom I looked up to in every way, explaining to me that someday I'd understand why the Doors were a "much better band." Well . . . maybe someday Thad.

Loved Indian summer

Less energy, more bluesy than earlier Doors albums. Only one song, Roadhouse Blues, that I recognized. OK, I guess.

I really love the Doors, but this album was lackluster for me. It's always a pleasure listening to them, but this one just fell a bit flat.

I can’t really understand why this album made the list. It’s fine, but outside of Roadhouse Blues, the feast of the album is pretty mediocre.

As a Doors fan I think it's weird that this one's here as I've never considered it any good.

Such a solid encapsulation of late 60’s

Yeah not bad.

Much prefer the first two Doors albums but this is a enjoyable listen even if it doesn't set the world alight. Best Track - Peace Frog Other Liked Tracks- Roadhouse Blues Maggie M'Gill

Loved this as a kid. Not sure it holds up

Pretty good but there's other Doors albums I prefer

Middling doors album. Nothing to write home about but jot bad.

Bluesy rock with psychedelia and country elements (Maggie M'Gill) That classic Doors sound without the organ so much front and centre. Not as good as their classic album. Morrison sounds old and gravelly in places. Best track - Peace Frog 3 stars

I tried. I honestly tried to love The Doors. Then I tried to hate The Doors. Then I finally came to terms with accepting The Doors. Tons of great songs, tbh, but just never could buy into the whole Jim Morrison Serpent God bullshit. Peace Frog is a standout, but the rest...meh.

Not my cup of tea.

blues? pq? mas ruim não é...

This was ok

Like all Doors music, some of it is pretty good ("Peace Frogs", "Maggie M'Gill"), a little bit is great ("Roadhouse Blues") and some of the woo-woo mystic stuff is tedious and not as cool, pathbreaking, or interesting as it thinks it is. This was fine, but when I saw it pop up I was not excited by the prospect of listening to an entire Doors album.

Funky little blues album. I can imagine being a kid in my parents living room, shag carpet and worn couch, with one smoking a Parliament and the other drinking a scotch, dancing in the fading sunlight of a Saturday afternoon while this vinyl spun on the record player (not that this ever happened, but I can imagine the scene)

The sound of a talented band playing mostly just fun lil' ditties instead of, you know, real songs. Kinda fun and kinda groovy, but you can't help but to wonder if the waiter forgot to supplement your sides with an actual piece of meat.

I only really heard the Doors' singles and LA Woman before and didn't really warm to them, but this is more my style. Apart from Land Ho! being perilously close to a novelty song.

A few pretty rad songs but overall not my favorite output from the doors (but i also don’t find it to be bad). Leaning a bit more into their heavier and bluesier side, while dropping a bit of the psychedelia. It’s fine and still an enjoyable listen overall (they still have a pretty interesting band dynamic), but now an album I’m likely to pick up and listen to in full often.

nothing special just some blues, probably a 4 if I liked any song

Pretty good, standard rock. Fave song: roadhouse blues

Good album, just not for me

Really fun album. Loved the blues influence. Hadn't listened to much of the Doors less famous output and it's good.

I think I like this better than the previous Doors album on here, little more eclectic, but the same concerns remain

The bad songs aren’t that bad but the good songs aren’t as good as the hits in the debut album and LA Woman although Roadhouse Blues does rip. Another 3.5 from rock and rolls favorite pervert.

As much as I shit on the Doors, this feels like a real album rather than just a distillation of generic late 60's hippy rock. There's actually variety in the types of music. It's a decent listen, probably a 3.5 (but I'll dock them .5 cause they're the damn Doors)

Heavy 3 light 4

Sympa mais un peu repetitif

they threw indian summer in there like they cooked

Coole Vibe, hans nid mega speziell gfunde. Het aber spass gmacht zum lose.

Old school rock and roll, back when you could still hear the blues influence. Not bad

Solid doors album roadhouse blues peace frog and land ho are stand outs. Land ho gets jammy at the end

Solid album. I'm not a huge fan of The Doors but it was nice and groovy. Some tracks were much better than others but overall I enjoyed it, I would listen again.

Much better guitar playing than expected

not their best album imo but still good

I feel like it's just non stop 70s rock. Love the doors, lots of fun stuff on here. Maybe just a function of the list that I'm getting a little fatigued on this genre.

Like a hotel to stay the night on a road trip, it's alright. You're just staying there for one night and then you move on without a second thought, because most of it is standard fare that you're used to by now. 'Peace Frog' is quite nice though.

I think I enjoyed LA woman more. This has more than a couple electronic influences that have not always held up.

Didn’t recognise much of this but very decent

There was a time I listened to the doors, mostly their first album. This has a nice balance of blues, rock, and balladry. The best album I have heard of theirs Let down by the side 2. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? A couple of songs Owned: No. 1/1001, 1/7 (14%) Will I get? No Recommend: Sure

It was good, nothing groundbreaking.

En god del bra musikk på dette albumet med gode blues elementer som er interessante. Blir for meg i lengden litt likt. Sterk 3’er

Another Doors album! Good band, not my favorite though. LA Woman was an excellent record, so color me interested. This record gets off to a great start with Roadhouse Blues, a tune I've heard a bunch of times. Super fun with tons of energy. Love this song. The rest of the album doesn't live up to the opener, but in fairness that's a pretty high bar. There's still some good stuff on here, and Morrison's voice is very cool throughout. That said, it's not as good an album as LA Woman. A solid effort, but definitely an inferior album to others.

Legendary band, mediocre album. A few classics.

This album was rather hit-or-miss for me. The Doors try out a few different sounds here, all united by a general psychedelic leaning and Jim Morrison's rich baritone and poetic lyrics, and not all of them worked for me. I'm not really a blues person, but when they went for more rock or folk directions, I enjoyed it. I can understand why people love this, they are certain a band with a unique, well-developed style, but it's not for me. 3/5.

Love his.voice

Mostly forgettable in my opinion. Very “good ole’ days” American, when everyone in popular music was white and assumingely straight.

Some good blues songs, but a singer he ain't

This is fine! It is not bad but I feel like the Doors have released much much better. Really good guitar riffs, but most bled together for me. It's good, but I expect more from a band that's as highly rated as the Doors. I don't know, it left more to be desired. It's standard bluesy rock for me.

Straight forward Jim Morrison and The Doors. It was a good listen and will show up in my music rotations.

Well that was an epic way to start the morning

pas mal

A bit slow for me but pretty good

Found this a bit boring and meandering, but still pleasant background music. Just no stand out hits really. 3

really like 3.3/3.5 stars

Len Houmous actually pitched to Van Morrison to open a hotel together. It was going to be called Morrison Hotel - Van was concerned it would be confused with this album. How do you confuse a hotel and an album? No idea! Also Van is far too grumpy to work with someone like Len. It would have ended in a fist fight everyday! 3.3 5/11 Blue Sunday

Nothing unique musically or sonically speaking, but a good album nonetheless. My opinion does not consider the lyrical prowess.

I listened to a lot of the Doors when I was teenager because I thought I was supposed to.Then I concluded they were embarrassing especially Jim Morrison's shaman poet circus performer routine. This is a roundabout way of saying that I fully expected to hate this record and I didn't. First side of the record was not bad at all then it did descend into a fair amount of jimbabble. Band sounded good and for at least part of the record, they were actually trying to write songs.

Surprisingly, this was not the Doors I know and hate; it was shockingly tolerable and even had a couple of songs I might consider good. I guess he hadn't gotten grandiose and ridiculous yet.

IDK, it is the Doors, and iconic band.Yet there has been plenty of better blues rock before and since. It is certainly not a bad album, there are many gray tubes. To me it lacks the emotional depth and originality of earlier albums. Listening to the album fresh, I liked all of the tunes, but I was there wasn't anything that made me think, "Fuck yes, this is amazing!" It did remind me that I hadn't listened to R.L. Burnside in too long. I guess my point is that whole I respect the Doors, I was just bored through much of this. Not bad, just not great.

Good stuff, classic Doors. 3.5

not my favorite, but it did grow on me!

3 - not my favorite doors album

Can't say this one really did anything for me.

Not bad, definitely not my favourite doors album

I'm starting to get The Doors a little bit more after not liking them for so long.

it was fine. storytelling was there but it just doesn’t do anything for me

I didn't really like the doors' hits before this, and this just further confirmed it. Just kinda of boring blues esque with one note vocals.

Roadhouse blues and peace frog are bangers

Does any band sound more 60s than the doors? Roadhouse Blues is a great rock classic but Peace Frog is an under appreciated gem. A top Doors song for sure. The rest of the album is a little hit and miss. Not even song to song, but moment to moment.

not my taste but not bad

Pretty good, but not great.

it was fine but kinda old school

Some psychedelic blues? Sure. Maybe I’m just not in the mood for this but I come away either wanting some real funky Delta Blues or wilder, more psychedelic funk. This leaves me feeling mostly bleh.

I think this is a pretty good album.. idk it’s not my favorite doors stuff but I really only love a couple of their songs

entertaining mix of rock, blues, and psychedelia. jim morrison is a great crooner, but he can get pretty intense as well. for my money, “roadhouse blues” might be my favourite doors track, but this album also includes great deep cuts like “you make me real”, “blue sunday”, and “maggie m’gill”.

I prefer their early work a bit more. And even still I’m not a huge Doors fan.

Not the best doors album but there’s a few great songs

Inoffensive, nothing that stood out to me 2-3

Not quite as good as LA Woman but still a fun bunch of songs by Jim & the boys. Roadhouse Blues is always a riot to listen to.

This hopefully ends a full week of classic rock albums. I like classic rock, but I was hoping for more variety. I guess the random number generator can't win them all. As for the album, it's okay. I'd take either of the Doors' first two albums over this, but it was a fun listen.

70s blues rock. surprisingly fun.

Decent. In general, I like the doors. Some of their songs are fantastic. Many are just Jimbo exercising in self indulgence. This one is good, not great.

This was interesting to listen to but I wouldn’t listen again.

Pretty good I like his voice and everything has a good ragtime vibe to it

Didn’t really stick with me this one. It’s good stuff, but they have better. Simpsons: Yes

Classic The Doors sound, het is soms bijna blues-achtig wat het een heel dynamisch en verassend album maakt

Nice to listen to. I like The Doors, so I enjoyed this. It really didn’t stand out much compared to the other Doors albums I’ve listened to though. I might come back to it, but it’s not a must-listen.

I kinda forgot that this one falls off a bit past the beginning.

Overall I think this was pretty good, maybe a mid 3 star album. I haven't listened to The Doors in forever and a lot of these songs were new to me.

Good album. Enjoyed listening to it. Never have been really exposed to The Doors too much other than their hits. Good listen.

Listened in the truck via YouTube Music. First song is a classic and maybe my favorite of theirs. The rest of the album has some good songs, but there’s also some like Land Ho that are just odd. I’m hoping this isn’t the only entry for the Doors in this list.

It's better than expected

Not really for me

22/1001 ( I think). I am not a huge Doors fan, but heard the albums a few times, some of them more, and of course the hits keep playing over and over and over. This album is not in my top Doors list, mostly bluesy, basic rock with an attitude and a few good songs. Favourites: Peace Frog and Waiting for the Sun. Actually the more the songs step outside the blues norm the more they are interesting. A solid 3 for me.

Best song is roadhouse blues

easy to listen to, nothing really stuck out except the songs i already knew, but enjoyed listening

Not as good as I remembered .Not as strong as earlier records.

I really wanted to like this one and there are songs that I like a lot including Roadhouse Blues and Ship of Fools, but the songs I don't like as much end up feeling pretty grating to the point that the album is just 'meh' overall for me

Haha jag gillade albumet men lyssnade inte så noga på låttexterna, ibland kände jag att de kanske var lite tveksamma ändå 😅 3 + men inte 4

Front loaded. Roadhouse Blues is a classic. Peace Frog is a banger. But the second half drops off. Decent but not great as a full album.

Jim Morrison's crooning can elevate any song, unfortunately the only song I really liked was Roadhouse blues.

Always thought the Doors were overrated, but Roadhouse Blues is pretty damn good.

Typical doors. Moist with too much organ

The first song gives outlaw country with the harmonica but then the rest of the album flows into more rock vibes. Love the shout out to New Haven :) Blue Sunday sounds like the Beatles song Michelle? I wonder if it was based on that? This sounds like the type of music to be played at a dive bar and everyone loves it. That being said though I didn’t feel much emotion or anything from this, but it was groovy.

Better than expected. Some really good songs. Morrison still drags it down somewhat

Favorite Track: Roadhouse Blues

roadhouse blues- 5 waiting for the sun- 5 you make me real- 5 peace frog- 6 blue sunday- 5 ship of fools- 5 land ho- 5 the spy- 5 queen of the highway- 5 indian summer- 5 maggie m'gill- 5 every doors song sounds the exact same

Very bluesy. I didn't know the doors got that bluesy. Not my cup of tea but well done and keyboards always slap.

Całkiem spoko, 3,5/5

I didn’t love it. It got a little repetitive after a while as it all began to sound similar. Some good songs but nothing I’ll come back to Overall: 3/5

Listening to this album helped me understand the recognizable sound of the Doors.

I've noticed that there are some bands that are known for specific songs that you hear over and over again and you think that is just what that band sounds like. That was what I was expecting here and sort of dreading because I'm just not into that Doors vibe. But it turned out, some of the lesser known tracks on the album were quite a different feel and I like them. In the end an average experience.

Ahh i dont remember super well but i think i did listen and i thought ah i thought it would be different

It's not my usual style, since its country, though i enjoyed it; it was catchy, fun and hectic. My favorite was Land Ho! Oh my god, i just saw it was released on my birthday! I see myself listening to it in another occasion.

It's a good album. Nothing groundbreaking just a solid album with some fun tunes on it. I've always had a soft spot for the doors but I will say they have better than this one. It's worth a listen and you might add a couple songs to a playlist, but it's got more filler than their first three albums. It's one of those albums I wish we had half stars cause it's better than 3 but not a 4.

I'm unsure why this music is so popular. This album is very cartoonish in it's sounds, if you ask me. Not the worst I've heard, however. 3/5

I discovered this album shortly after college, so maybe late 80s. I'd call myself a fan of The Doors and have listened to this album numerous times since then - always enjoy it. And I have to say introducing my son to the album and having him appreciate it was really gratifying. His favorite song is Blue Sunday, which I love, but Peace Frog is one of my all-time favorite songs. All that being said, I'm rating it a 3 because I'd never be dissapointed if someone put this album on. But I'd probably never choose to listen to it - except for song or two every once in a while. So, listen and enjoy if you haven't heard it, you won't regret it.

Unlike other Doors albums there isn't really any notable songs on this album. The whole thing sounds good just nothing that really stands out. I think I'd like to check out of the Morrison Hotel please. Favorite track: Queen of the Highway

I’ve never quite understood the appeal of general The Doors. Some songs are really good. It otherwise just meh

Classic American rock. Folksy and fun.

Does it have bedbugs?

i dont get this band

Classic rock

No pensé que me fuera a gustar pero si, muy elevada producción y ejecución. Me llevé un tema a likes así que venga paca. Nota: 3.5

Nothing that truly blows my mind as a listener in 2025, but Jim Morrison's voice is certainly a vibe that hits just right.

First couple of tracks and a few others, but then there's the standard whiteguy blues rock filler tracks, that seem to bog down every other late 60s/70s album.

cool rock blues but kind of mixed in with other genres. i love that all of the songs have clear and a lot of guitar on them

nicht mein liebling von den doors, aber einige wunderbare singles wie piece frogs!

Love it

Quite bluesy

I liked when they were doing blues rock much more than when they were doing anything else. I didn't realize before listening to this album as a whole that Roadhouse Blues was a Doors song.

The Door continue to surprise me with how much I seem to enjoy their music. I just really enjoy the fact that the guitar is usually doing something pretty cool and the bass player is solid as well. The instrumentation in general is a highlight, and it stands out in this album too. There are just some songs on here that are kinda boring (i.e. Blue Sunday, The Spy). Overall, decent album.

The doors again? I loved the first album this generator sent my way, let's see if I like this one. I loved waiting for the sun. It has a really catchy beat during the chorus. This album is not as good as their self titled album.

Favorite track: "Peace Frog" And... yep, that's the review.

Classic 70s classic rock sound from The Doors in this album. Really good to groove to.

Good stuff

Back in 1990, just before graduation, there was a radio program that played all of The Doors’ albums—except the last two, which don’t feature Morrison. My favorites were always the first three albums, but Morrison Hotel stands out as the most bluesy. OK, let’s break it down. “Roadhouse Blues” feels a bit dull after 35 years. But still—it includes “Waiting for the Sun,” which remains one of my favorites. “You Make Me Real”? Not a big deal anymore. (Funny, it was a big deal when I was 17.) Strangely, “Ship of Fools” has held up—not better or worse. “Land Ho” is the same. “Maggie M’Gill” stands out, even though the rest of the band reportedly didn’t like it at all. In summary: it’s a solid LP. But—admittedly, this is on me—it’s been overplayed over the years, so my opinion may not be entirely objective.

Standout songs: Waiting for the Sun Land Ho! Maggie M’Gill My first time actually sitting down and listening to a Doors album in full. A few of the songs were a little too slow and mellow for my liking but overall an okay album

Roadhouse Blues is ubiquitous! I unfortunately only had the chance to skim this album today, but I do think it's a classic and belongs on this list, though three stars because it did not blow me away like many other albums did. Hope to come across more blues music by black musicians too.

This album has a blues feel to it. Roadhouse Blues is the only song I’ve heard off this album, even though the Doors always have been played a lot on the radio. Pleasant overall but nothing that allows me to rate it highly.

This is like CCR but a little more generic. Not really a win. I did, in fact, frequently mix up Jim Morrison and Morrissey in college (a lot of Jim Morrison posters in dorms, though not many Morrissey ones). Nowadays I know that one is bad* (musically) and one is bad (humanly). You can guess which this one is. Highlights: 'Ship of Fools', 'The Spy' *OK, obviously not bad, but really just not my style. When I think of 70s music I think of this stuff. Fine lyrics, fine human intrigue, but an awful lot of electric guitar. At least it's short and relatively non-objectionable.

One heavily blues inspired album that I think would sound better live. None of the songs particularly caught my attention, but it was a perfectly pleasant listen.

This is fine but nothing crazy

The Dalton Line of Doors albums

Heard it before. My mom used Peace Frog as her ringtone for years and to this day the song gives me anxiety and makes me look around the room looking for the phone 3/5

Old school

The older I get, the less I enjoy listening to the Doors. I still like a lot of their music, but this album doesn’t really contain any songs that I care for. Jim Morrison just gives me such weird vibes through this album that I struggle to enjoy it. Compared to stuff like their self titled debut album, this just doesn’t have the same passion and excitement that was present earlier. Like they were just phoning it in for the sake of fulfilling record contracts. It’s all relatively fine, production and music wise, but I just found myself bored a lot while listening to it. 3* but only because Roadhouse Blues on its own is a great song.

Blues rock / Hard rock Morrison Hotel marked a return to raw rock ‘n’ roll after the more experimental and controversial The Soft Parade. The album is split into two conceptual sides: “Hard Rock Café” and “Morrison Hotel”, both titles taken from real Los Angeles locations. After legal troubles and a period of public backlash, The Doors stripped things back here—embracing bluesy riffs, gritty vocals, and a bar-band energy. I think the album started off strong but became more boring/ repetitive near the end. Overall accessible decent rock 6.5

Uh kinda good. The sad part is that the bass playing is the only instrumental i really dug but they were a session player.

The Doors are tough for me. On the one hand, the stuff I really like I *really* like. On the other hand, I don't like most of their stuff. Morrison's voice gets nasally and whiny, and while the instruments behind him are great he distracts from their quality. It's no wonder he died at 27, and everything that lead up to that shows through in his voice.

-Roadhouse Blues -The Spy -Maggie M'Gill

Enjoyed the stripped down vibe of the whole album. Pretty even throughout, no outliers.

Really groovy and chill. like the organs! What I would expect to have been played on a motel in the 70s

not my favorite overall, but i love morrison's voice and how this had a few hidden bangers that i recognized.

Mostly average blues rock, leaning more towards country/bluegrass in some songs. I think it was a little slow at times, but otherwise the album was decent.

Opening song was good. Rest of the album was meh

Liked the guitars.

Pretty good but I think I like other Doors more.

it was chill

Not bad, wish it had a slightly higher BPM at points, kinda dragged

Some cool stuff

I like it. Very much what I expected.

The Doors have better and more adventurous albums than this. Sometimes there were moments when they diverted from the normal blues formula, but this was rare and fleeting. I am not really a blues guy, so this one is a: 3⭐️

Peace Frog oli jossain pelissä, oisko American Wasteland? Ei niin räyhäkkää minä oon Doorsia pitänyt. Parhaat: Piece Frog, Roadhouse Blues

bluesy-er than I expected

Equal parts awesome and annoying. SO much organ and droning.

Not as good as the debut but still enjoyed

I grew up in a doors household, so a little biased. Morrison has a unique voice and I think the band has an early good incorporated use of synth (or something that sounds like synth). Good songs, I think there are better ones, but I don't think I'd turn off any doors album once it started

The Doors are known for their blend of Psychedelic and Blues music; however, "Morrison Hotel" mostly showcases their blues influences, evident in both Morrison's vocal delivery and the band's instrumentation, particularly in the opening track, "Roadhouse Blues." Although the album experiences a dip in quality in the middle section, it features a strong selection of tracks, such as "Waiting for the Sun," "Peace Frog," "You Make Me Real," and I have always enjoyed the simplicity of "Indian Summer." While this may not be the best album of The Doors' discography, it certainly is enjoyable.

Damn I love the bass line on Peace Frog

I would describe it as "Dad-rock". It's old school rock, where almost everything sounds very similar. I didn't have anything that stood out. But also, it wasn't bad.

Nothing to really grab you on this.

Couple of bangers, but mostly meh...? Was expecting more from them.

Decent

While still radical for the time, this feels about as straight forward as The Doors get. While it doesn't have a ton of the big hits, it's fairly solid throughout, and not a bad listen. 3.5/5

Unremarkable

I'd heard most of these songs, but I don't think I've ever listened to a doors album front to back. It was pretty good, but I still think they don't really live up to their reputation.

Unavailable on Apple Music

Shut the Front Door, The Doors!!!

I love the doors, but this is far from their best album. Although the music is pretty bluesy, creatively they sound tired. Jim Morison was a bit of a mess by this album.

Not their best is it. I enjoyed listening to it on my road trip today, but it comes back to the same argument about too many albums from individual bands on this list and this album adds nothing. This is the 3rd we've had from The Doors and while I absolutely love them, particularly Morrison's deep and dirty vocals, I just don't need to hear every album they've every done especially when its not their best, or doesn't add anything to their musical progression. I wonder how much space would be freed up on this list for other artists if there was a cap of 2 albums per band?

I generally enjoyed this album and I like the organ. Ship of fools is an instant classic. Last three songs kind of drag (especially the spy song). 3.4/5

Reminds me of that episode of the office where Robert California takes over the band practice

Nothing really jumped out at me in this. Like it wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. Maybe it's just the things that made The Doors innovative is no longer that sonically different from what others have been up since this first came out.

Every time I hear The Doors two things happen. I hear a song I’m familiar with and am blown away by how good it sounds. Truly hard hitting face melting stuff especially for the time. And then a deep cut like Blue Sunday shows up and it’s some of the worst shit I’ve ever heard in my whole life. This is music some smelly hippy played for some smelly hippy lady so they could have smelly hippy sex. It’s awful.

it was nice

5/10 - It was a little boring. There some decent parts but nothing that I loved.

A long way from being my favourite Doors album (peak Doors are great, but they made some pretty average stuff too). Still, Peace Frog is really great, Roadhouse Blues a nostalgic stomp, and Waiting for the Sun took me back to teenage years. 3.5

Yes, yes, once again congratulations for drinking yourself to death at 27 but this is fairly dull. Better than the annoying debut at least.

I enjoy the doors and blues/rock is up my alley. This however, while being fun didn't strike the same chords doors usually for me (loved la woman) or most high calibre rock blues album. It was fun though

Really liked Peace Frog, thought the rest of the album was just ok.

Their first album is fabulous, the rest just OK. The debut album and their greatest hits are all you need. I always thought of them as a great Top 40 singles band.

A load of honky tonk blues, I spent most of it wishing I was listening to Riders on the Storm

A very strong start and maintains a decent level throughout

Sympa, à la fois très old school mais avec beaucoup de modernité. 3,5 arrondi en dessous

Enjoyable, mostly bluesy rock, but not capturing my heart.

That sure is the doors

Kinda meh. Good songs but as an album didn’t blow me away

This was fine. I like the doors enough not to skip, but idk if I’d ever seek out

Not the greatest of The Doors but still a solid album

Never been big on the doors but nice to listen to an album with what appeared to have a cohesive identity and feel. Seemed to link seamlessly and was enjoyable.

Going into this I only really know Peace Frog but it's one of those songs in heavy rotation so I'm happy to dig more into The Doors. Its a fun album, quite front loaded, but listening to it it feels like a lot of the songs blend into each other without much distinction, which is fine but these tracks never give me much reason to revisit them. Then this is all the more obvious when there is a standout song that makes you realise you mentally checked out a few minutes ago just to snap you back to appreciating The Doors. When they're good, they're great. Looking at the album as a whole it does seem very weird to have Maggie M'Gill as the album closer when it's placed right after Indian Summer. It goes from an amazing wind down to right back to one more regular-ass song. Plus Maggie just ends on a fade-out too! The lamest way to end a song. Highlight: Indian Summer Bonus: There's a bit from Waiting For The Sun that's sampled in the album All Day by Girl Talk (Maybe the best mashup album). I love finding these samples in the wild.

one great song, the other stuff is OK. Not bad.

Don't care much for The Doors, but I'm glad this is one of their more tangible records. Songs were short enough that the next one would start before I needed to change. Overall better than expected.

Roadhouse Blues is a classic, but The Doors don’t really grab me. It was good, though.

I've tried with this band time and time again, convincing myself that it's probably me who's not getting it, since everyone and their (by this point literal) grandmother seems to be absolutely obsessed with them. Sure, when I heard The End for the first time as a teenager, it pretty much blew my mind. Riders on the Storm is another one that comes to mind. And they probably recorded a handful or so of other remarkable songs, but not one of them ever found its way onto this particular album. It's not me, it's them. Rounded up because at least none of these mediocre blues rock tracks overstay their welcome for too long.

Morrison hotel First thought - feels like bob dylan more than I thought. I have very little doors exposure. YIKES Forgive me for speaking in the wrong order here but also hearing some franz Ferdinand here. Never realized where that influence came from. I’m a spy in the house of love Really liked it honestly. Not a lot to say.

This is…a rough listen. The Doors are already an acquired taste, and as time goes on Jim Morrison is deteriorating right into your ears. Which is a shame because this is one of the most cohesive records they did, the band sounds great, there’s a good groove and mix of different styles. But Jim just sinks it with his mumbling. It’s hard to know how to feel about this one, but I’m going 3 because of how good the rest of the band is despite their frontman starting to sink into his own addictions.

yeah, good.

i enjoyed listening to this, but rating it today after listening to it on Saturday, I can't quite recall any standouts. Good album by the doors that I would listen to again if it came up in rotation, but probably not going to add it to my spotify library.

It’s fine. Nothing to write home about, really, but good for some background music. I think the only reason I’m giving this a three is because it’s The Doors and Jim Morrison.

This album probably would have been a 2 if it wasn't for "Roadhouse Blues", but that song alone is worth a star.

Besser als erwartet.

Fine. Some good songs

Slow rock with piano. Ok listen, but uninspiring. Always thought The Doors was highly overrated, and this didn’t change my mined.

Meh. Not bad. Not great. Roadhouse Blues sucks. Ship of Fools saves. Middling 2½

there were some interesting moments, however a lot of the songs felt tedious to get through. i like classic rock, but this generally just felt okay

It's a vibe. Goes hard a little bit sometimes in a "fuck everything" kind of way

"Roadhouse Blues" sounds exactly like the song you think of when you think of "Blues" genre of music. It was good, not my style though (at least for now).

There are definitely some five star songs on this album. There are also plenty of doors doldrums where every song sounds like the last. There are times where I just cannot stand the sound of Jim Morrisons voice, probably because we've all heard these songs thousands of times on the radio, in remember the titans, and in every movie ever made about that era.

Let’s have a moment of silence for Ray, Robby, and John. Serious musicians who thought they found a white whale in Jim Morrison. The girls loved him, he had a distinctive voice, he had all the preoccupations of a rock star. By 1970, the serious musicians had a greasy, out-of-breath, drunk pseudo-shaman in front of their band. I’m surprised they could get all these recordings in between naps or bottles of wine. That said, this record works most of the time. Roadhouse Blues is serviceable, but the live at MSG version really captures the sweaty out-of-control hedonism of the song. Peace Frog still hits hard, even if Jim doesn’t know the lyrics. Waiting for the Sun sounds great at high volume. Blue Sunday is a total misfire. There’s just one more thing I need to say WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON A NUMBAH TEEWWWWWWE COME BACK HOME AND MARRY YOU MARRY YOU MARRY YOU AWWWLRIGHT

A couple of lesser hits and a bunch of meh.

Doors are okay, but they’re not my favorite. However, they do remind me of the fond moments spent at the local library, listening to their albums back in the days. That nostalgia is what earned this album its third star.

Overall, a good listen. High points were really high but with some lulls throughout. Have to admit the album ended pretty weakly. I was waiting for another track when nothing came after and just thought, "That's it?"

Much more bluesy than some of their other stuff. But not my favorite Doors album. "Roadhouse Blues" is a highlight - one of my favorite Doors tunes. And "Peace Frog" is a decent cut.

The hotel was a bit old and decrepit and the bed was not the most comfortable ever, but the music was nice and the food was good.

Before listening: I‘ve only listened to their self-titled before, not really my genre but we will see After listening: actually pretty fun, won’t be listening to it again in a while

Haven't listened to much from the doors. Easy to listen to. Could be less hillbilly harmonica vibes but the rest is good. Slightly boring.

I know this album like the back of my hand. Peace Frog is one of the best collection of sounds I know

Pretty good, I liked several of the songs.

It was pretty good. It wasn’t exceptionally but I enjoyed listening

Morrison Hotel is split into two halves: Hard Rock Cafe and Morrison Hotel, and they’ve got two pretty distinct vibes. The first half, "Hard Rock Cafe," is the blues one, and I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much from it. The Doors, to me, have always been more about the psychedelic stuff, so the blues approach wasn’t something I thought I’d enjoy. But it’s actually quite decent. Roadhouse Blues is fine, it’s got the energy you’d expect, but it’s nothing particularly special. The rest of the side, however, has some great moments. Peace Frog stands out with that groove that’s unmistakably The Doors, and You Make Me Real is almost like garage rock. Waiting for the Sun is another highlight it brings a bit more atmosphere into the mix. Overall, it’s better than I had anticipated. The second half, is where you’d expect me to really get invested. This is meant to be the psychedelic half. And there’s some of that here; Land Ho! has a fun, trippy energy, and Indian Summer which was actually the 1st track they ever wrote back in 1965, I appreciated but seemed to me to be a much shorter version of the more famous 'The End' . But the rest? It didn’t leave much of an impression. The songs are fine, but they’re not the kind of tracks that linger in your mind. I kept hoping for something to really stand out, and it just never quite materialized. All in all, the first side was a pleasant surprise, while the second side fell short of expectations. It’s not a bad album; but it’s not the one I’d recommend to someone new to The Doors. A 3.5 if I’m feeling generous, but realistically, it’s more of a 3 when you look at the whole package. Decent enough; but they’ve done better.

While I love their first album, and a smattering of tracks from their other albums, I only enjoyed "Waiting For The Sun" from this one.

Not super exciting. Roadhouse Blues is the best but I didn't get into the rest

Meh. I really don't like this band.

Day370 - roadhouse blues is great but it just falls off after that

For those of us who aren't die-hard (or particularly knowledgeable) Doors/Morrison fans, it's hard to imagine how any subsequent album could equal or exceed their debut album, so this album has big boots to fill. It's a valiant effort, and certainly starts off in the right direction with the classic "Roadhouse blues", but much like Morrison's increasing alcoholism during this period, the album stumbles quite a bit at times (the next track, "Waiting for the sun", almost sounds like some sort of camp cover of a Doors song). I enjoyed "Peace frog" and it's almost Deep Purple/Blue Oyster Cult sound (although I have to admit that this was probably the first time I'd heard that song, despite the Wikipedia entry claiming it was a classic rock radio staple), as well as aspects of "Land ho!". "Indian summer" felt like some sort of milksop version of "The end", sadly, but I appreciated it that they ended the album with "Maggie M'Gill", a nice bookend to the opening "Roadhouse blues". It's hard to overly criticize any album that has a tight play time of 37 minutes, but given that the collection has two other Doors albums, both far more interesting than this one, I'm not really sure why this album made the cut for the "1001 Albums" project.

I enjoyed this one more than LA Woman but not sure we need so many Doors albums on this list.

solid 3

Pre-listening thoughts: Doors album 2/3, I liked the first one as much as I can enjoy the excessive use of 12 bar blues form. I bet I will have the same gripe with this album. But I bet there will be parts I’ll enjoy. I predict 3 stars. Post/during listening thoughts: yeah for the most part this is pretty mid. I feel like the Doors are way overhyped. They’re fine, but on the whole I am so neutral on this. There’s not much that stands out to me here. 5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Peace Frog Least fav tracks: was just lukewarm on most of this

I expected to hate this more than I did, but it was a perfectly fine album. Getting these older rock albums continue to solidify this era of rock is just not to my tastes. I can see why people love The Doors, but I walked away just thinking I listened to a very capable group, but not one I was impressed by.

A stepping stone for the more adventurous L.A. Woman. Waiting for the Sun is great though.

i tend to be put off by the doors but this album was alright

Check-out’s at 11, and I won’t be asking for more time.

I have a habit of forgetting The Doors' blues incarnation, and it is refreshing to re-engage with it. I get the sense they are feeling a little refreshed. This passenger, while not loaded, was definitely on board.

"Roadhouse Blues" is a great Doors tune. If they were all this good, I might consider myself a fan. That said, this is a really good album. I'm somehow still not quite won over, but I enjoyed this more than expected. I'm curious to hear L.A. Woman (the third Doors' entry and the one we've yet to hear) to see if I might cross over into unqualified enjoyment.

Not bad. I'm not about to change my opinion of the Doors based on this, but it's very OK.

Tiene un poco de todo lo bueno de the doors, pero lejos de su mejor laburo

roadhouse blues - does what it says on the tin (bluesy) waiting for the sun - slaps. jim morison sounds great. sick synth + organ noise peace frog - i've heard this rest - sounds like the doors man

Not my faborite

Best: Roadhouse Blues Worst: n/a Liked songs: 55% High 3 Love the blues rock sound, especially on roadhouse blues. Difference between first and second half isn't as stark as people say, but first half still better. Also the filler tracks all sound kinda alike, but not necessarily bad.

Fine to meh. Decent musicians but Morrison is not for me. This album should not be on this list. I can see an argument for including some of their other albums that are more popular and allegedly-classic, but not this one. Why do I dislike some talented jerks (Jim Morrison) but like other talented jerks ([REDACTED])? Although the song Land Ho made me want to start a cover band called Nautical Corner that only plays songs about ships/sailors/seas/etc. Also: one of my cats left the room when I started playing this album.

Fine, I think I’m learning I don’t dislike The Doors (quite) as much as I thought. It helps this has Peace Frog, which is one of my favorites.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I still think Jim Morrison is a pretentious, untalented nob that an otherwise good band let force them make not great music.

So this is on the list because it's a return to form for The Doors? I maan it sounds like The Doors, but there's not a lot here for me. Roadhouse Blues is a great opener and Land Ho! stands out but that's about it.

id give it a 3

Better than the other Doors album. Still not my thing.

Liked 1979 better.

one listen was enough, not my thing

I have previously heard this album, but I know several other Doors albums better. I would say this album is good but not great. Roadhouse Blues is probably the best song and there are some others that are worthwhile, but there are probably at least three better Doors albums to listen to before this one.

I'm pretty shocked I didn't hate this. I basically always hate what I hear of the doors. This seemed to avoid the worst impulses of the band and it was actually decent. Not great but solid.

Decent album with no bad songs. Maybe nothing that blew me out of the water, but it was still a great listening.

Solid. Very 60's, sometimes a little psychedelic-y with some catchy music. Always amazed that they didn't have a bass player, I think. I'm not a huge fan of the Doors and think they're a bit overrated, but I am not a child of the 60's. As with other influential groups from that time, they sound cliched, but they're probably the ones who invented the style in the first place and everyone has been copying them. Kinda like blaming Pearl Jam for Creed.

It was okay.

I didn’t like this Doors album as much as the last one.

I have a personal vendetta against The Doors, but I know they’re not *actually* that bad. With that said, I was expecting to like this a lot more than I did with as much hype as it gets. I’m sticking to my opinion. The Doors are overrated and this isn’t better than your average 3-star album.

I think the Doors are quite overrated in most aspects. The album is fine overall but nothing really outstanding here.

还挺好听的

A nice listen

I know I do enjoy some of these tracks. The first track is classic.
