Reviews (page 7 of 15)

This is not an easy album to love. The melodies are not standard pop fare, they are complex and the hooks are while their are present but require repeated listens to make their way into your brain. This is not Sgt. Pepper, with its easily hummable melodies and easy hooks. It's a great album but it requires time before it's greatness is revealed. It did at least for me. 5 🌟

Went for the stereo version. So many good songs it's hard to pick a highlight. Beautiful, genre-bending music that was way ahead of its time but also nostalgic.

A great pop album here. Always feels like it goes by really quick. The songs are enjoyable but also aren’t just poppy nonsense. The Beach Boys best album without a doubt. 9.3/10

I mean Pets Sounds is one of the greatest albums of time...did as much or more to change music than the Beatles accomplished at the same time

Who knew the surf pop dudes could write an album of such exquisite beauty? Pet Sounds is one of the greatest works of art of the twentieth century. Fragile, delicate, poetic, with perfect arrangements and haunting tunes, this album stands alongside the compositions and musical innovations of The Beatles. A transformative album, to take you from where you are to another place and time. The delicate beauty of God Only Knows is a fine love / love lorn song and tracks like Wouldn’t It Be Nice and Sloop John B have a playful enjoyable energy to them. A five star classic and an album which will be remembered and revere in centuries to come.

what an album! listened to it years back as it comes up on loads of "best album ever" rankings but didn't really get the fuss, glad this came up for another round today as I loved it

Concept album

Questlove had it right. This thing transcended music. It’s like Brian Wilson had a secret time machine.

First listened to this years ago and never quite got it. Revisited recently and it's probably an all time top 5 album. Best tracks 1. I'm Waiting For The Day 2. God Only Knows 3. I Know There's An Answer Wouldn't It Be Nice 10/10 You Still Believe In Me 10/10 That's Not Me 10/10 Don't Talk 9/10 I'm Waiting For The Day 11/10 Let's Go Away 10/10 Sloop John B 10/10 God Only Knows 11/10 I know There's 10/10 Here Today 10/10 I Just Wasn't Made 10/10 Pet Sounds 9/10 Carolone No 10/10

Engir Bítlar, en þetta er samt æðisleg plata.

A great piece of work

Perfection. Soo good.

Absolutely amazing album. The father indie albums. Beautiful lyricism and vocals that make me feel them. Super soothing and fun.

Still mesmerising, seminal, the start of many wonderful things.

Need no introduction to this one. My all time favorite. There are goats on the front because it is the GOAT. Brian Wilson did something unprecedented with this album, and few have been able to imitate the results he achieved here.

Legendary

Poppy, moody, fun, dense. A great album.

I mean...it's Pet Sounds. Not much to say really. Brian Wilson is a genius. This album is brilliant. You probably already knew that.

Need I say more? One of the most important albums of the 60s indeed of the rock era. 5 stars

Them harmonies. The brilliant studio work. Very pure

WOW. I love this album. I'd put this in my Top 5 all time for sure. Stunningly beautiful melodies, soaring rich harmonies, insane instrumentation, and poetic lyrics. A classic.

A true classic. The harmonies, Wilson is a genius. Nothing more to be said.

I had always heard how "genius" this album was so I was going in with high expectations. This was not at all what I was expecting, but in a great way. I have heard the greatest hits of TBBs countless times as a kid and have seen them live a long time ago, but this was so far from that sound. Surf rock, pop, and an orchestra so amazingly mixed together. Makes me think a bit of Metallica's S&M somewhat. Great album. Needs a couple relistens

I listened practically on repeat the entire day. Love it.

Obviously Beach Boys best. A musical inspiration for that period. Variety, a great album. Brian Wilson a genius.

Superb classic album.

So good!

Saved Prior: Wouldn't It Be Nice Not Saved: 13. Sloop John B 12. Pet Sounds Cutting Edge: 11. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) Off Rip: 10. Let's Go Away For Awhile 9. I Know There's An Answer 8. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 7. Caroline, No (annoying that he had to tag on the Pet Sounds and train to this one) 6. Here Today 5. That's Not Me 4. I'm Waiting For The Day 3. You Still Believe In Me 2. God Only Knows 1. Wouldn't It Be Nice Overall Notes: It took me a little bit to get used to the fact that these were old fashioned pop songs without hooks, but when I did holy moly did this album click. It sounds like Phil Spector if he had joy in his heart. It sounds like if the Carpenters had a collab album with the Beatles (I love the Carpenters this is a compliment). What a lovely little album.

It's been said before, but.... Genius!

Talented voices and some interesting drums.

A great classic.

God Only Knows

Always been a favorite. Every time I listen to it I find something new to love.

One of the best albums. There's little better than the Beach Boys at their best, and this album is definitely a great one.

Already in the mix

I mean, come on. So good

Classic songs that flow together for a great listen

The Beach Boys' finest effort and one of the greatest albums of all time. 9.4/10 Best Tracks: "Wouldn't It Be Nice" "I'm Waiting for the Day" "Sloop John B" "God Only Knows"

Eins der goat Alben

Classic

sonic bliss!

Interesting to listen to the full album. Sad, haunting, beautiful. Clear influences to Wilco & some Pink Floyd 40-50 years earlier.

already listened

Love listening to this album. God Only knows brings back a lot of nostalgic memories for me.

Lovely, one of, if not the greatest pop albums ever. Deep, rich recording. Love the horns and diverse sounds across this album

Una maravilla.

The GOAT

An all-time classic I'd never listened to before. It lived up to it's billing - a beautiful, tender and melancholic record, and quite far removed from the Beach Boy's west coast pop (which is also great). Both sides start and finish with classics and the songs in between help this album to read very much of a consistent piece. A pretty much perfect record. 5/5.

A masterpiece

5.0 + A masterpiece.

One of the best albums ever.

This is a great album that I already know before. It has some of the most important songs in the whole world. Impossible to give it less than 5 stars

Great, I LOVE all songs

Possibly the best album ever made

good as always

This is one of my all time favorite albums. I love it.

Trop bon!

Thank you, Brian Wilson.

Okay, I’m really excited about this one because I really like the Beach Boys! And I already know some of these songs. And it didn’t disappoint. Some of the songs weren’t as good as others, but it was pretty good as a whole.

wouldn't it be nice is a classic. one of those songs that never fails to lift your spirits. that's not me is so nice i never really listened to it. this album is so joyful. my heart is floating.

A classic

Classic

C’mon you think I haven’t heard this shit before? It’s one of the best albums ever! I’ll listen to it again though I guess

Excellent

One of the greatest albums of all time.

Great album — love The Beach Boys and this album is what sparked the new-age indie/alt.

I've listened to this album many, many times over my lifetime because it's my dad's favorite. And for good reason.

Some outstanding tracks. God Only Knows, wouldn’t it be Nice, Sloop John B. Top 10 best album of all time in my opinion.

Fun, creative lyrics that will always make you feel 19 again. Great weekend or car trip listen.

What an incredible album. From wouldn’t it be nice to Caroline no, you will be entrenched in the heavenly harmonies. I’ve noticed with this listen the “story” of this album, where from wouldn’t it be nice is a simple song of young love. This concept is introduced there and is expanded upon in the first side. By sloop John b, the relationship is more fragile and not as tight, perhaps because of the age of the characters. God only knows continues this. Listening to the song on its own appears to be a love song asserting ones love. In the concept of the album it is the first song where the love falls apart. God only knows goes from certainty of love to uncertainty based on context. Throughout the second side, the protagonist deals with the love failing and a breakup. Specifically here today exhibits the ex lover finding a new partner. I just wasn’t made for these times is a depressive state following that. The title track “pet sounds” is an instrumental break that lets us breath in from the journey so far. Finally Caroline no, shows us what happens when the two lovers reconnect and the spark can’t be reignited, concluding with the sound of a train and a dog barking. I don’t understand the albums final notes of train and dogs. But I ADIRE THIS ALBUM. It truly is one of the greatest of all time.

CLASSIC AF, and really brings out the psychedelic side of the Beach Boys, which of often overlooked for the more beachy tunes. And the hits are always fun to hear again.

One of the most praised albums of all time. The Beach Boys have never been and never will be my favorite, but this is a great album, end of story. Best track: God Only Knows

Obviously one of the most important albums with so many books and highly detailed writings about it. So this post is more about my opinion. While I don't really like or care for the Beach Boys, it's hard to not say that this is their absolute peak and best album compared to a lot of 60s manufactured slop they would churn out and "oh, you should at least check out Surf's Up!" crowd of Beach Boys fans tell me after I say my opinion. And I did check out Surf's Up earlier on this list. It was quite mid!! Production wise, this is definitely one of the best sounding albums of the 60s, really on par with Bob Dylan and The Beatles in that regard. I think my limitations with The Beach Boys is that I simply cannot dig that much into their songwriting on half of the songs. Wouldn't It Be Nice and Sloop John B are misses for me though I do really dig God Only Knows and Caroline, No as well as the two instrumentals (obviously). In spite of the high quality stuff in an era where people were still experimenting on how to get good sound, it can't change the fact that half the album isn't as exciting as the production. Fucking sue me if you disagree with me about that, I cannot care. I don't think it's a wrong or terrible opinion to say parts of this album suffer from the 'Seinfeld is Unfunny' effect. I do not think the same way about the production though, a big tour de' force on that one. Obviously Brian Wilson is good (most of the time) and aside from a few other members and especially not shitass Mike Love, they should have kept listening to Brian even as he got on to the deep end. Dude was a creative force and they'd rather institutionalize the dude than admit LSD is cool. I don't know where I'm going with this, or even who would want to read another random review of Pet Sounds, but it's definitely an album you should hear before you die. Of course

I GET IT but i don't think its for me. Don't hate it, wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it

nothing to complain about, nice catchy pop

𝘗𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 was the album that proved The Beach Boys could be far more than a group singing about surfing, cars, and the California lifestyle. More than anything, it feels like the work of Brian Wilson, who pushed the band into more ambitious and emotionally complex territory than anyone could have expected from their early records. It’s hard not to notice the parallels with The Beatles. Both bands started with relatively straightforward pop songs before rapidly expanding their musical horizons in the mid-1960s. Whether that similarity was coincidence or the result of the friendly rivalry between the two camps, the comparison feels inevitable. And then there’s 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀. If someone asked me to play a single Beach Boys song, that would probably be the one. Beautifully arranged, emotionally direct, and effortlessly melodic, it’s not only the highlight of the album but one of the strongest songs Brian Wilson ever wrote. For me, 𝘗𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 isn’t quite a perfect album, but it’s very easy to understand why so many people consider it one of the defining records of the 1960s.

Enjoyed it. Innocent.

This sounds like an amazingly modern album - I don't know much about 50/60/70 music, but this is not what I was expecting by the Beach Boys. The opening song is a classic, but "That's not me" predates music by 10 or so years, from what I could understand. "Let's go away for awhile" is NOT normal rock, it has some orchestral influence, there's a bit of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin there. This is honestly incredible, there's jazz, swing, theremin, modern rock, and ancient rock. All at once. That's some amazing music, I knew nothing about this, this is not my country's musical history, so I wasn't ever exposed to it. But I'm flabbergasted, although this is not my favorite genre of music. But damn, I can hear the basis of 80s music, there's a lot that survived up to the 90s, and there's meaning into it. Wow. Simply wow.

God only knows is pure fucking magic. And the rest is really good as well.

Always enjoyed odd songs by the beach boys but funnily enough never listened to pet sounds all the way through it’s a pretty decent album

In terms of historical context, it’s a 5. Amazing arrangement and really wild instrumentation for the time. Personally, I hate the vocals and don’t find the lyrics all that amazing, but I’ll cave and average it out to a 4.

I get it. bit overhyped though innit?

love these boys

rock n roll-y sounds

I’m behind so I’m going to drunkenly review a bunch of albums #2. Oh look, another best of list where everyone clasps their hands and gushes over Pet Sounds. It’s good but it means nothing to me.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice is an all time great song. A few other really good ones on here, and no cringe ones. Best BB album.

Love the innovation. I remember when I was introduced to this album and told how IMPORTANT it was. The thing is, the Beach Boys annoy me. The treble. The soft tickling bells without bass end. I keep coming back to it, and I love all the production elements, the found sounds, the vocal arrangements. But I always come away missing something. Missing a deeper soul. 4 Boolean: True

These are them boys and them boys can play. Laid back, easy listening—a balm for the soul. Perfect background music for a sketchy, hole in the wall bar at close when the cool, intimate embrace of low lights and heavy smoke are cut through by bright lights and a harsh voice decrying your degeneracy and demanding hasty egress.

club classic TRULY

What to say about Pet Sounds that hasn't already been said. Quintessential american vibes. Vocals of happiness but with an undercurrent of unrest. Perfect album,, maybe not. However, it should be listened by all at least once.

Classic songs. Discovered I Just Wasn't Made For These Times for the first time -> describes exactly how I feel at times.

album #70 0/5 there wasn't ONE pet sound. (this album is so very whimsical. i will never get over the joy i feel every time i listen to God Only Knows. it's not *quite* a 5 in terms of enjoyment for me, but definitely a 5 in terms of production. oh, btw, fuck mike love lol) ꩜ average track rating: 3.7/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): god only knows ꩜ least favourite track(s): caroline, no ꩜ album rating: ★★★★⯪ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,019 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 35 (+1 Pet Sounds) ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 14 (+1 Pet Sounds) ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 56

A true classic. It's up there, but not all the way to the top.

classic

While I think several tracks are brilliant and beautiful, and get it’s a 5 ⭐️ album for artistic/cultural heft, i just don’t 5 ⭐️ love it as an overall listening experience (lead vocals/production) - at least on the number of listens I had time for for this project.

An instant classic, the harmonies are to die-for. 60s music rarely clicks for me but this album is really something. No wonder Paul McCartney was/is obsessed with it. Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is still the better album, though. Favorites: God Only Knows, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, I’m Waiting For The Day, Sloop John B, Here Today

Classic! The majority of their greatest songs on one album. Such creativity and risk by Brian Wilson.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would! Very cool instrumentation choices with so much fun percussion (big fan of the timpani). Some classic tunes as well of course. Ended up putting it back on by the end of the day.

This album sounds like nostalgia of a time I wasn't born in, and also kinda sounds like a happy LSD trip. 8/10

Hard one to rate. Unusual production and instrumentation. Way ahead of its time. God Only Knows is a classic. However it just doesn't click with me entirely. I can see why it's so highly rated and definitely needs to be on this list. One day I might give it 5 stars but not today

2026.05.27

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another of my dumb hot takes is that to be over rated you have to be good, so in my mind this is one of the most over rated albums of all time. It's great and all but those instramentals, banal lyrics bring it down. 4 Heard before? Yes Owned: Yes 76/303 (25%) Will I get: Already have

Amazing Boy Band Album

It’s got that classic needledrop energy to it

Fav song: Wouldn’t It Be Nice

9 / 10

Enjoyed some, don’t know that I’d choose it over other Beatles-ish stuff

_Pet Sounds_ from The Beach Boys in 1966 has so many tracks on it that you already know and know that you know that it almost goes without saying. It absolutely drips with American wholesomeness. The opening track, _Wouldn't It Be Nice_, essentially being the anthem of young love, longing for eternal embrace, and horror of horrors, marriage. I say horror of horrors because try getting a track out today that is so directly family supportive. You'll never get plays. 1966 was a different age. Interestingly, the little played second track, *You Still Believe in Me*, subverts this air of wholesomeness altogether. Perhaps this is why it doesn't see a lot of spins. It's a short song about a guy that just can't help cheating on his girl. If we take it as part of a continuing narrative from the first track, which I don't suggest, the story takes a dark turn. Is that the original intent? I can't say, but it is sometimes a surprise when artists take things sideways. That's Not Me splits the difference between tracks one and two and almost picks up the story of *Wouldn't It Be Nice?* with the guy deciding to chase his dream of something undefined and running off to the city, leaving his girl behind. He discovers that city life isn't that great. He misses what he had and he comes home, reassured that a life with her is what he wants. It's wholesome, but it's also cast in a minor note. Track four, *Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)*, is frankly not very good. It's not just slow or methodical, it's plodding. The lyrics are just about exactly what it says on the tin, and it doesn't have even a shred of sense of romance. I'm not sure what it's trying to do. I'm not sure what the band was trying to do. Whatever it was, I don't think they made it. Then we get to *I'm Waiting for the Day*, which is not particularly wholesome. Quite frankly, it's either about a guy who has been friendzoned so hard he has bounced out the other side and doesn't know it, or about a guy who's simping for a chick who is never going to see him in the way that he wants to be seen. By the end, I'm really just imagining that he's decided to murder her and her ex-boyfriend when he finds them together, possibly talking about her unwanted pregnancy. It's a strange song, is what I'm saying. The first half ends with *Let's Go Away for a While*, which is purely instrumental. It's the best the Beach Boys just doing a bit of a slow waltz across the stage. It takes a certain kind of boldness to end the first half of a pop album with a gentle instrumental, but it was 1966. It was a different era. Is it good? Is it bad? It exists. Side B kicks off with what is, relatively speaking, a complete banger, *Sloop John B*, in which a sailor sets out with his grandfather on a relatively small crewed ship and everything goes sideways. As the refrain goes, "I want to go home. Well, I feel so broke up, I want to go home." This is actually one of the best tracks on the album so far. Close up behind Side A's opener, *Wouldn't It Be Nice*, it's probably the second most well-known song on the album. *God Only Knows* is a weird track for me. I am perfectly aware that it has been cited as one of the romantic songs of the era by people who enjoy life a lot more than I do. I get it. It has the outward appearance of wholesomeness, but then you actually look at the lyrics of the song, such as they are. There's not a lot of song here, but one of the core elements is a straight up suggestion that, "Girl, if you should ever leave me, well, life would go on, but the world would have nothing more for me. So why should I continue living?" All right, so that last line is actually, "So what good would living do me?" But there are certain unwholesome implications here. I'm just saying that if this is your idea of romance, maybe your relationship is not the healthiest and you should probably look after yourself for a bit. Which brings us to *I Know There's an Answer*. This is a complete gear shift for the whole album, because while all of the other tracks until now have been about relationships and how they fall apart, or how the emotional impact is intense, and how the singer-protagonist doesn't want them ever to end, this song is philosophical and musing and a solid reminder that a certain kind of people have always been with us. Let me just grab the lyric: "They come on like they're peaceful, but inside they're so uptight. They trip through their day and waste all their thoughts at night." Then the singer-protagonist asks himself, how can he come on and tell them the way that they could live could be better? He knows there's an answer, but he has to find it by himself. Does the last bit completely make sense? No. But at least he's trying, and I'm giving him points for that. Oh yes, there's an absolutely bizarre melodica breakdown in the middle of the second half of the track, which I can only assume meant that one of the Beach Boys had to go out to the restroom and the others just noodled around on whatever instruments were lying in the studio until he got back. I can't help but thinking that *Here Today* is the flip side of the situation described in *I'm Waiting for the Day*. This is the guy that the girl needs to or has broken up with. This is the aftermath, and here is the song being returned to the simp. A harsh, though surprisingly gentle reminder that love can screw you over, and that bitch ruined his life. For that reason, among others, I really like it. Don't try to understand what this says about me as a person. *I Just Wasn't Made For These Times* is not a wholesome song. In fact, it's a pretty damn depressing song, which combines a slightly perky melody with a dragging bassline, which probably encapsulates exactly the emotional content that was intended. It's about a smart guy who just can't catch a break, who wants to do things a new way to try and shake out of the funk, and nobody else wants to go along with it. He wonders how he got stuck with these loser friends. As a result, he feels very sad and he can't find something to get excited about, knowing what I do about Brian Wilson, this song fits right in the field of expectation. Also, I feel a little empathy, which is unpleasant, but there you go. That brings us around to the penultimate track on *Pet Sounds*, which also happens to be the title track. It is what I can describe in no other way than a tiki jam. If I go to a tiki bar and this is on the overhead, I know I'm in the right place. It's a little bit discordant, a little bit out of tune, a little bit strange, and absolutely appropriate to any space I'm likely to be in where I'm sipping on a scorpion. It's also a really strange way to end out an album, but here we go. Now for the pièce de résistance, the last track on the album, *Caroline No*, which I can only imagine as the completion of the trilogy of songs that began with *I'm Waiting For the Day*, proceeded through *Here Today*, and now has ended up with the simp getting the girl and discovering that she is an absolute emotional wreckage that makes the *Sloop John B* look positively functional, and he's discovered that maybe he shouldn't have been so quick in pursuit because the worst thing that could happen to him was success. Really kind of brutal, actually. Overall, this was a decent album. I see how it became such an important part of Americana, but mainly that rides on the back of the top of the A and the B side. Overall, I came away not with a feeling of uplifted wholesomeness and appreciation of the oncoming future, but rather the opposite, looking into the maw of the sucking whirlpool and realizing that entropy always wins. Thanks, Beach Boys!

Great album

Timeless sound, and fun.

solo porque tienen una de las mejores caciones del mundo y mas concidas

I don't think it's their best, but obviously B-dubs doesn't make anything bad.

- Another band with a members with a history of DV, SA, and being pedophiles. Also, apparently they were friends with Charles Manson. Also played apartheid South Africa repeatedly. So, yet another band on here to boycott. When will people stop idolizing and supporting assholes like this? - The album, itself, is good - the sunny surfer sound with great melodies accompanying sad lyrics. That said, the sad boy lyrics get a little much for a whole album. - The strained vocals grate on me - they are really reedy and shrill in the head voice in the high registers, and unfortunately, that's where the tunes rest for a a large part of the time. - A lot of great orchestration and instrumentation in general, the percussion especially, timpani!, and the strings and guitar work), but some that are kind of annoying (e.g., the honking, train, dogs). - The sound feels kind of fuzzy/mashed together, overall. - I don't like the instrumental tracks or Caroline, No.

This was so so so good omg. Vocals were the driving force of the album and the instrumentation was also really good. Very nostalgic, I love this album. Makes me feel warm inside, and there’s just so many bangers!

I enjoyed this loved the vocals but the interlude (let's go away for a while?) was also one of my top faves. Maybe it's like a >3.5 < 4.0 but ive given a lot of threes so imma bump it up bcos i defo like this more than avg. although some songs did have that wham effect to me where they sound like a christmas song just because of the era and style

Brian Wilson is a genius

An iconic album. That little tinkly melody at the beginning of "Wouldn't it be Nice" just can't be beaten. The sound is instantly recognizable and there are some really wonderful tracks. It feels like this album is universally recognised as a perfect piece of art, but for my personal list I don't feel I'm able to give it 5*. Favourites: Wouldn't it be Nice I'm Waiting For The Day God Only Knows I Know There's An Answer

Muy lindo dentro de todo. Me copo este álbum mucho más que otros. La portada no me gusta nada, pero solo eso tengo de negativo.

Best Track - "God Only Knows"

I honestly expected it to be better given it’s reputation

A very good albums that suffers from having its best song first in the track listing. It’s kind of marvel to behold even if I don’t think it’s Pete felt. Definitely an essential listen.

I think this is kind of a boring record to listen to casually. It washes over you and while the songs are fine nothing really grabs you unless it’s one of the certified hits. However, this sucker really comes alive on a close listen, especially after some minor substance abuse. There are so many little sounds and weirdo instruments to focus on and the harmonies really are transcendent. “You Still Don’t Believe Me” is really something else when heard through headphones. My only problem is that I can’t really get behind the lyrics. The vocals sound great but the actual lyrical content just feels lacking. It’s probably a byproduct of having only listened to it twice, and maybe more time with the album would result in my caring about what they’re saying, but for now it’s not working for me.

Wow, this was so great. Besides 3 of the greatest songs to ever be written the album is a joy to listen to.

I think if you take this albums story and the story of Brian Wilson into context this album is a very interesting listen. Just intrinsically I think it would be an acquired taste. The instrumentation is very unique and the Beach Boys have their voices which some people may or may not like. This album has so much critical praise I feel sort of pressured to give it 5 stars. Personally I feel like I enjoy Smile and Surfs Up more but this album certainly has some certified timeless classics.

Creo que es un álbum que te tiene que agarrar en un mood muy específico. Pero cuando llegas a él (o él llega a ti) en ese mood, es maravilloso. Muy disfrutable.

i love this album for a lot of reasons but i think i love it primarily because Bioshock: Infinite introduced it to me by way of the barbershop quartet arrangement of "God Only Knows", which i still listen to today i was like "no way they wrote a song this good for the beginning of the game, wow that's cool" and then i discovered that i was fucking stupid and my dad just never introduced me to the beach boys when i got my beatles introduction at age 7.

Beach Boys are always pretty good but about half of these songs feel unfinished. Great ideas that needed to be developed. The album is really held up by the songs we all know. That being said, those songs are too good to be denied. Would love to give this album a 3.6 or 3.7, so I'm just gonna round up. Highlights: Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows

Instrumentation, songwriting, and production are all very clearly good that’s not a question but this album does not blow my dick off like some other people claim. I understand it’s historically significant and to be fair it’s shocking this was released in 1966, but some people glaze tf out of this.

made me feel really in love and calm so yeah i really liked it and im impressed by how good it was knowing that it was made in the 66'

OHHH WOULDNT IT BE

This album really was a masterpiece

Highlights: Wouldn't It Be Nice, You Still Believe in Me, I'm Waiting for the Day, Let's Go Away for a While, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, Pet Sounds

I own this on vinyl and have listened to it multiple times. The smoothness of Brian’s voice and the harmonic melodies make it a classic that never gets old.

Great raw record!

104/1001 🇺🇸 Featuring one of the greatest songs ever written in the form of God Only Knows - the French Horn is just sublime and whilst so simple, the lyrics just resonate. Nothing more needs to be said about the production and ground breaking sound of this record. That said i find a few of the lower key tracks a bit flat so its going to get a perhaps slightly harsh 4 stars. Best tracks: ⭐️God Only Knows⭐️, I Know There's an Answer / Hang on to Your Ego, Sloop John B.

Review - highly rated classic album. While the production is great and different than anything that had come before, I have some gripes. The Beach Boys wanted to be The Beatles, but they were not. While I love a lot of the songs here, many just don't have it. The additional instrumentation is sometimes too gimmicky (clowny little honks in the background etc), and as great as he is, Brian Wilson can't hold a candle to honestly any of The Beatles lyrically speaking. It's a good collection of songs for the most part, and the best songs are great, but I think it's cultural significance is inflated because they were an American band at a time when all the best bands were British. Rating - 9/10 Need to hear? YES

Can you say you like The Beach Boys if you’ve only ever owned a greatest hits album? I always thought I did… but I’d somehow never actually sat down and listened to Pet Sounds properly. I honestly don’t know why it took so long. This album completely caught me off guard. I was expecting more sunny, surfy background stuff, but it’s way more emotional and kind of fragile than that. A lot of the songs feel sad, or at least thoughtful, and Brian Wilson sounds like he’s really putting himself out there. Some of the tunes almost sneak up on you — they don’t always grab you instantly, but they stick around. The music itself is really lush too. There’s loads going on, but it never feels messy. Even the quieter songs feel important. By the end, I had that feeling of “oh… right, that’s why everyone goes on about this album.” Anyway, consider my ears officially opened. Turns out a greatest hits album really doesn’t count after all.

El shot de positivismo y dopamina que necesitaba. Me gustaron muchas canciones, como álbum entero puede llegar a ser un poco repetitivo por momentos, pero ahí es cuando se anima a probar un sonido nuevo. Top álbumes para manifestar.

Putting it into perspective of the time it was created, I understand why this album is revolutionary. I believe Brian Wilson was most responsible for the songwriting and creating harmonies, layering sounds. Very unique and I can see how they inspired many pop artists to come. My favorite songs were "Let's go Away For Awhile," "Sloop John B," and of course, "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

any album that starts with a song like wouldn’t it be nice is going to be a good time, I feel like there were a few songs in the middle that didn’t have the strength of that beginning song or sloop John B but it’s still a great album

Clásico de los 70 me encantan, algo suave.

I tried to think of an "all-time classic" where the ballads are by far the best songs. I guess Blue comes to my mind. "Caroline, No" and especially "God Only Knows", plus the experimentation with percussion sounds make it worthy of a classic. However, I cannot say I am moved by the other songs. It is chamber pop as for me, nothing swings, grooves or rocks to my ears.

Strong first half, fades toward the end for me. Track 2-4, new favorites. Any album with "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows" is perfection.

The song Pet Sounds actually strucked me as a very original song and it makes it the best of the album.

It's hard to rate this as I listened to the history of this song in the podcast history of rock in 500 songs. So can feel how revolutionary it was at the time. Though not my jam now

Yeah yeah it’s a groundbreaking album…

Decent 4,5

Hyvä levy. 3,75/5.

Good, classic, summer vibe

It's just so very cute, for lack of a better word. The 60s style lyricism comes across as sweet here instead of dated, for once. I love wouldn't it be nice and put your head on my shoulder a lot.

A Buddha smile. Content. With the corners of the mouth slightly tipped up, but not a grin. It feels good, solid, and sustainable.

Favorite Track: I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times Least Favorite Track: Pet Sounds

Very good album, just not my style

PET sounds is a classic world of sound

A classic piece of early art pop. Wilson's complex song structures and weird instrumentation cut across the grain of the oddly conservative bent in the lyrics, paeans to monogamy and settling down.

Tranquilo y clásico

It’s got some incredible songs. But I’ve just never got into the other songs. This is an album more famous for being famous at this point.

The mid streak ends with this gem. God Only Knows is one of the best songs I've ever heard despite its ubiquity. Sloop John B and the instrumental tracks were some other nice discoveries. I think I actually like Surf's Up a little more, though!

I never grokked too hard with Beach Boys, somehow, until going back and listening to Pet Sounds for the umpteenth time after getting to listen to more music from the era via this list. And I have to say it's made my appreciation for what the Wilsons were doing dramatically. It's top of the pops. Still, there's something missing from that Beach Boys sound that I still struggle to articulate. It's just missing this something-something to give it complete and total fullness of sound. Don't get me wrong, there's some absolute bops on this album and it's incredibly well written, but I don't know, I feel like half the tracks have something missing. My running theory is that it's lacking a loud bass end, but I might be wrong. Good album though. Fav tracks: Don't Talk, Lets Go Away For Awhile, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, Pet Sounds

- awesome as expected - they never miss - good vibes generally and as background - will listen again

the only song i enjoyed was ," Wouldnt it be nice", reminded me of my childhood.

Great album. Some real classics!

Great album. Just a few songs short of a five.

fun listening, and some unexpected deeper lyrics too

Ja, en klassiker. Imponerande produktion och låtar

Kinda easy music with vibes of sixties. I would say that it quite similar to Chuck Berry’s

Some great songs and some products of their time.

Really good album. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows" are some of the greatest songs to come out of the '60s. The harmonies throughout are brilliant. But to me, it doesn't really hit the next gear. Most of the songs kinda sound alike. Yes, there's different vocal melodies chord progressions, but the instrumentation and production make it all sound mostly same-y. And it's not a bad same-y, but considering the acclaim this album gets, I guess I expected more variety.

Recuerda mucho a los Beatles. Algunas canciones parece que van a empezar cuando ya acaban. Pero en general muy bueno.

Of all the beach boys albums this is one of my favorites, I think mainly because it has Sloop John B. It's a shame that I was forced to listen to Brian Wilson's Smile which should be considered elder abuse instead of an album. (I should note that I mean elder abuse because of the recording not because I'm old and was forced to listen to 3 songs on it.)

Striking production values and intricate rhymes unique for the time. Not all tracks were 5/5. Perhaps another listen is required

It's a really classic album

Wouldn't it Be Nice and Sloop John B are classics

Wouldn't It Be Nice is good. The rest is pretty decent, not bad at least

You don’t need any other Beach Boys in your life if you have this.

A great sounding in general. I guess if you want a Spector sounding album you just go hire the band (Wrecking Crew). The instrumentals feel like filler. This is also why we didn't need Surf'd Up on the list too.

I’m not doubting the significance of this album on the impact on modern music and pop and there are genuinely some beautiful moments on this album and some very good songs that I listen to regularly. In saying that I think a lot of the production choices have made this album sound dated (I think rubber soul which is older than this album sounds clean and modern today), I also think it starts to drag towards the end but I am appreciative that this album is relatively short and feels quick to get through.

The first impression after listening to the album in its entirety is that it is a beautiful album, and I enjoyed a lot of the music. I may even keep a couple of songs for myself. In my personal opinion, I would give it 4 stars again, as I have decided that I will only give it 5 stars if the album is objectively good and I personally really like it. Once again, this is not my genre of choice. The album features a variety of instruments, including violins, sound effects, and a beautiful voice. The themes explored in the songs can be both melancholic and very kind, which is reflected in both the instrumentation and the lyrics.

The Beach Boys have a uniquely recognizable sound that I tend to enjoy in the right setting, especially on a summer day. This album has a great sense of flow, and I found myself appreciating some of the deeper cuts I’d overlooked before.

Sikke et åbningsnummer. Og generelt meget fedt.

Oh happy days.

8/10 Favorites: Wouldn’t It Be Nice Sloop John B

Хороший олдскульный альбом

it's amazing how much music changes. nowadays, this sounds corny and commonplace. but at the same time, this was one of the greatest albums to come out at the time. it's earned it's place. Would I listen again? Yeah Deserves to be on this list: Definitely 4.1

A very good album that has a smattering of classics in God Only Knows, Snoop John B, and Wouldn’t It Be Nice. We see Brian Wilson’s intricate production come through throughout to make a complex and compelling sound. Some songs do pass me by though, especially the slow songs that proceed at a glacial pace.

cutieee

I think people over hype this album. But there are undeniable hits. .

Very good. Four stars

A delight. A few I recognized but mostly it was new to me which was cool. Nice harmonies. Very chill.

I'm returning to this for the first time in years, having come away from this on first listen not really impressed. I'm glad I've come back now as I'm somewhat older, and can actually appreciate how good this is. The harmonies especially are impeccable. So good.

I kind of love these songs, they're all just a bit whimsical with a random selection of instruments that some how just blend in wonderfully together. This is definitely music that transcends time in in terms of both enjoyment and appreciation.

Honestly very good, it reminds me of when I was in band class before our Christmas concert and we played sleigh ride, the orchestration sounds similar to that so that’s nostalgic for me. Also yeah it’s just great orchestral pop with great vocals and vocal harmonies. It almost makes me feel smarter listening to it, you know like classical music backs up these catchy pop tunes. No real skips either. I would give it five stars but for whatever reason this album will probably be in the back burner for when I get tired of all these rock, prog, psych, stoner, modern pop and also hip hop albums and stuff. So for me it’s not like my go to album of all time but sometimes I shall be reaching for this.

Favorite by far so far. The melodies (?) / just the sounds are so good, they move me the way modern pop music does. I think this album could become a classic for me. Listened more than once

I had fun :)

So ahead of their time, what a banger

I just wasn’t made for these times really struck a chord this time. But the entire album is pretty genius

Un classique de bonheur !

Highlights: Wouldn't It Be Nice, Don't Talk, I'm Waiting For the Day, Let's Go Away For a While, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, I Know There's An Answer, Here Today, Caroline No This is often in the greatest record of all times debates and I don't really get it. It's great, but it ain't THAT great, so hold your horses. I kinda already had my highlights from before so I didn't feel like analyzing the rest of the record too much. However, most of the highlights are in the higher echelon of romantic pop since it's a lot more enlightened compared to its temporaries. Don't Talk, I'm Waiting For the Day, Here Today and Caroline No are the some of the most beautiful songs that come to mind for their given topics. I didn't expect instrumental tracks on this, and such classy ones at that. They were very beautiful. When I think about it, the instruments on the whole record are arranged more tastefully than on any other pre-1966 pop record I've heard so far, so I have to give them that. It stands out for not being fully braindead teen slop, but it doesn't go to the same heights as the stuff the Beatles were cooking up at the same time. The vocal delivery is very 50/50 for me. At times it can be beautiful, but then there are also moments where the singing makes me shiver. I moderately enjoy listening to this record as a whole, but I much more prefer listening to the highlights on their own as a part of some thematical playlist.

It’s really good just feels like it’s trying to pander to teenage girls too much

Wouldn’t it nice to listen to one of the most influential albums of all time? It has its challenges though, some of the music is quite complex and not what you might expect from a Beach Boys album. 4 stars

I really enjoy this album a lot, but have never understood the love affair some people have with it. Easy 4 stars; something I come back to every couple years, but not something I listen to incessantly

8.23/10

4.0 stars Really well-written pop songs with beautiful harmonies and smart arrangements. The more I listened, the more I noticed the subtle emotional tension beneath the bright sound. It definitely feels rooted in the ’60s, but the themes still hold up. I may not revisit the full album often, but a few of these songs are staying in rotation. Favorite tracks: I’m Waiting for the Day, Sloop John B, God Only Knows

Brilliant start. So many great songs on this album. Some that you'd know, others that you realise are brilliant as you go along. A wonderful first listen!

Heard the beach boys before. Difficult to follow such high pitch harmony. Obviously strong vocals with catchy melodies. Instruments are complimentary.

It was a good album. Enjoyable to have on in the background and I knew a couple of these songs. Really enjoyed this.

That’s not me - resonates I’m waiting for the day - feelings of longing, knowing you’re the 2nd choice. I like the way the song ends Let’s get away for a while - feels like a movie. Love the instrumental bridge Sloop John B - fun tune. Vocals are popping. Homesick. God only knows - hit for a reason. For someone who has changed your life for the better. Feeling so strong about someone, but not sure how they feel back. Love the big band and vocal sound Here today - love the way the song moves I just wasn’t made for these times - wow. What a universal experience. With how heavy the news is, these lyrics are a reminder that every generation has its own doom. Caroline, No - love the sound and the use of trains and dogs barking Hang onto your ego - especially love the horns. Love that self deprivation is alive and well. Today’s terms would diagnose this as anxiety Wouldn’t it be nice - so many meanings of forbidden love. It reminds me of being young and wanting everything “now”. But also I think of it as people who can’t be together freely for whatever reason. You still believe in me - ok chorus rehearsal. That’s not me -

okay it was very cool kinda like the lyrics, it was almost like there were a continuity between every song

This is the first time I've ever sat down and listened to this in full. I'll admit that I fully expected to dislike this from the jump so I was surprised how much I actually ended up enjoying it. There are some really good songs on here but there were a few I struggled to sit through.

I know giving this one 4 stars and not 5 is a hot take. I understand it’s beauty and what Brian put into it. That said, 5 stars are reserved for such a rare amount of albums that it just falls short for me.

"Arf!" "Meow!" "Chirp!" "Neighhhh!"

layering of vocals and instrumentals was really cool. very significant album in the music industry. 8/10

Really enjoyed it, and I understand the importance of it, but wasn't completely blown away actually listening to it.

A classic

Abstinence education radio?

after reading about what Brian Wilson was going through in his marriage and mental health at the time, this album is a bit darker than it sounds. still vibin tho

To be honest, given the wide popularity of Wouldn't It Be Nice and it's association with apparently every TV surfing/beach scene, I was expecting a slog through a bunch of surf rock pop tracks. But the only song I was familiar with going in felt like a huge outlier. A radio hit followed by one of the most interesting listening experiences I've had in a while. I don't think I liked any individual song more than Wouldn't It Be Nice, but as a collective I thought the rest of the album was so much more interesting and creative. Most of this album feels so ahead of its time, like a modern indie album paying homage to late 50s rock styles. I seriously am having trouble wrapping my head around how harmonic each song feels given the absolutely insane variety of instruments (or other non-instrument sounds) sharing the stage. Structurally, it's so damn jazzy. I feel like I don't even have the ear or music vocabulary to properly appreciate the madness of the production that's on display here.

This is a classic album. I grew up listening to the Beach Boys a lot because my mom is a huge fan. I love their sound, it’s just feel good music (sometimes to sad lyrics) but all in all they do what they do really well.

great album

Feels odd not giving this 5 stars given its legendary status but there aren't that many classic songs on the album. Still, it's a remarkable work and God Only Knows is as close to pop perfection as it gets.

Album No. 0153 on my list. “Pet Sounds” by the Beach Boys is undoubtedly one of the most important and influential music albums of all time. I had listened to this before, but it had been a few years since I actually had listened to it in its entirety. I was hence curious to do so again. “Pet Sounds” heavily influenced The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and is commonly compared to that album, which I had already on my list. And with Sgt. Pepper, I noted that I get why it was so influential and that the album exhibits some respective qualities. But personally, I found that Sgt. Pepper is not my favorite Beatles album and that it’s not a 5 star album. I felt similar with “Pet Sounds”. At the time, it transformed how record are made and how they should sound. And the album certainly reeks of it. As with Sgt. Pepper, you can actually hear how influential it has been. But then again, I don’t think it’s a five star album. It contains two uber-hits, i.e. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, and “God Only Knows”. Both are among the greatest songs of all time, without question. And there are multiple other good song on “Pet Sounds”, with high lyrical and production quality. But they just don’t reach that level. So, I’ll add “Sloop John B” to my playlist, among with the two aforementioned songs. To summarize, the whole thing is cool, interesting and influential, but it doesn’t quite meet my personal preferences fully - again, similar to Sgt. Pepper. 4/5 stars.

Holy Nostalgia.

Super cute

A good album with some folk elements.

Skamba kaip labai malonūs berniukai.

Representing a huge leap in production for its time, this brilliant album was a major influence on progressive rock in the late sixties and seventies.

more orchestral than I thought it would be

I have listened so many times. I've always appreciated what this did for the standards of music production, but it's not something I find myself wanted to listen to all the time.

Too light for my tastes, but enjoyable nonetheless. ★★★★

For this album, rather than writing individual comments about every song, I opted to just listen to it and form an opinion on the album as a cohesive whole. Despite how influential Pet Sounds is, I've never listened to anything from it other than Wouldn't It Be Nice. Every song on the album is recognisably Beach Boys, but the huge variety of instruments on display throughout the album keep everything sounding fresh, and even help songs flow into one another, like the bass harmonica in I Know There's an Answer being followed up with a trombone in Here Today. The instruments get really esoteric, with songs prominently featuring a range of percussion and melodic instruments, including strings, horns, vibraphones and timpani, and even an electro-theremin (also used on Good Vibrations). It all adds up to create an entirely unique sound I feel like it's hard to properly appreciate the album in today's context, with the album turning 60 in three months' time. We're so far removed from the time of its release that it's hard to grasp how much of popular music has been shaped by this album. It also feels like an album that would take repeat listens to properly appreciate, so I may come back to it at some point in the future and see how my thoughts on the album have shifted. Favourite song: Wouldn't It Be Nice

Progressive pop, chamber pop, psychedelic pop, art rock.

The harmonies that the Beach Boys could do at their height are impeccable. Every single track on this album features amazing vocals in conjunction with stellar (albeit simple by today’s standards) instrument accompaniment. Every track is powerful and soulful…until you listen to the lyrics. Some of the songs are heartbreaking and/or powerful. Sloop John B is one of my all time favorite songs, and Wouldn’t It Be Nice is toe tapping, sing-along fun. Then some of the other songs have just the most vapid lyrics you can find in music. When they flexed, their music is unmatched. But you can definitely tell when they phoned it in a bit in the song writing. Luckily, the instruments and harmonies are more important than what they’re singing about.

Some real great tracks on this one. Pretty amazing considering its age.

Some incredible songs but there are a few that all feel the same.

Bought the album on cassette for the low-fi version of a supposed hi-fi masterwork. This was a decade after seeing the band live. It is a marvellous piece of work, the song craft is exemplary, the harmonies a delight,. But there is just something not right :- is it too perfect, making it jar at points.

This album has grown on me the more I listen to it. It starts with that familiar west coast surf sound but by the 2nd half it is a bit more experimental and psychedelic. It is art-pop with some cool orchestral instrumentation and those great Beach Boys harmonies. I wouldn't say it is a no skip album but there are some really high moments throughout

i didn't listen this time but i will revisit on a summer day

Four stars

A classic. God Only Knows is one of the best songs ever written.

really like it

Many huge bangers, but also some songs that didn’t really stand out that much

not my favourite beach boys album, but still the beach boys so i can't really fault them

Pretty fun. I liked the harmonies and the use of instruments. The overall vibe is just great and sunny. A unique pop album that would great for a drive in the summer. Favourite tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows

Reminds me of some beatles songs, feels nostalgic and fun, I liked it!

Fave tracks: wouldn’t it be nice, don’t talk, god only knows, and I’m waiting for the day

Still goes dooweeoooo, but less goofy than earlier albums.

Already listened, and from what people had said about this album, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, this album didn't quite live up to my expectations. It's a good album, but I don't think it's as good as people say it is. Nice sounds on it over all, but still only getting an 8/10.

whoever said 1 should die.

Without a doubt, the best Beach Boys album. Maybe the only one worth listening to. Psychedelic surf rock > surf rock, and that's saying something because I usually hate psychedelic anything. I like this album, huge hits, good album cuts. There's definitely an R&B feel to some of the songs as well, Let's Go Away for Awhile notably. Sloop John B has always been one of my favorite Beach Boys songs even if the lyrics are kind of goofy. It's strangely upbeat and melancholy at the same time. God Only Knows is my favorite Beach Boys song. Some of Brian Wilson's weirdness on this album were definitely an influence on Sgt. Pepper's, particularly the title track. Nothing like some dog barking and train crossing noises to close out an album. The 60s and found sound...not a major advance in music history.

Very hit or miss. The music was on point, but sometimes the harmonizing was a bit much. When a song worked it worked Very well.

I have somehow gone through over 40 years of life as a music fan having never heard this album in full. Now, obviously I know all about it - in the grand scheme of greatest album of all time lists, it's this, Revolver/Sgt.Pepper, and What's Goin' On which seems to top the lists. Don't worry - I've heard those other three albums, I'm not a complete pleb. I've also heard a few songs from Pet Sounds before - who hasn't? In my musical journey, I have been working my way through the entire back catalogues of artists I never got around to. The Beach Boys are one of those. I thought I would love them, given the fact that everyone else does and that I love plenty of their singles. But then the reality hits - they're not an albums band. They're 100% a singles band. So many of their early albums are so strikingly similar to one another - the production improves but the songwriting essentially stays the same. You have the songs about cars, you have the songs about girls, and you have the songs about surfing. And you have an instrumental or two. You might even get a song about cars, girls, AND, surfing. And the songs all follow the same plan - keyboards, lush, harmonies. This is where The Beatles always excelled over The Beach Boys - other lyrical subject matter, other sounds, more dynamic in their range of genres and styles. But Pet Sounds is the big boy. Is this where they put away their boyish notions of girls, cars, and surf boards? To a point, yes. There's more to the lyrics here. Still not as expansive or as expressive as what other bands were singing about at the time or since, but a definite improvement. The production is unsurprisingly gorgeous. The harmonies are here in full force, it's lush, and both Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are all time bangers. But then there's everything else. Everything else as in the rest of the songs all blend into one big Beach Boys wash and sound the same. You could pick any non-single from this album and compare it against any non-single from any of their prior albums and...what? What's the difference? Better lyrics, sure. But it's the same shtick. Throw in the fact that there's only so much of Brian Wilson's wailing that a sane mind can handle before the saccharine sweetness punches your teeth through your brain. And what the balls is that album cover? That's right up there with those hilariously bad religious album covers where some cross-eyed halfwit proclaims that Jesus has 'touched them'. No he hasn't. Because he isn't real, and never was. Thankfully Mike Love and others chime in and give a break. But this is an example of an album where all the songs are good - some are perfect - but it's still a struggle to get through the whole thing in one go. Such is the case with The Beach Boys. Listen to any song in isolation and you'll have a great time. A few in a row and you'll have a smile on your face and you'll probably hum them for the rest of the day. Any more than that and you'll start thinking 'hey, didn't I play this one already' and 'why are my teeth going all weird and tingly'. But it's Pet Sounds. It was influential. It has a couple of the best Pop Songs ever written. Critics fiddle each other talking about how good it was. The stories of its recording and aftermath are legendary. Such are the peripherals and context to ensure an album gets on a list such as this. It's very good, but come on, it's not as good as you think. The title track is close to garbage and all the trains, dogs, and bike sounds sound very very silly now.

Me gusto lo disfrute, pero no se destaco por sobre. pero gran disco tambien para tener de fondo

First song ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’ feels like I’m the main lead in a melodrama who’e about to start his day so fresh. The morning. It is sunny The air is fresh no stress. Bright smile. No rush. Very happy and wlight vibe to me. Second song ‘You still believe in me’ feels heartwarming to me. The outro feels like Christmas eve. So heart lifting. It’s quite short tho. Third song ‘That’s not me’ feels like singing out loud about my current life. I came from a small town and yes I once had a dream. Now I’m living in Bangkok and I found that my lonely life isn’t so pretty. Yes I miss my old self trying, dreaming, failing and yes doing everything I could to get out of my house and my town. Fourth song ‘ Don’t Talk’ feels like a comfort amidst stormy days. I would listen to this when I’m having a hard time.

First Beach Boys project and what a livley sound they have, which feels like a given when you think about the album name. All the instrumentals and vocals really give off a “live sound” and it sounds really great together even if the lyrics can be a lil sad when you think about it, it’s a nice lil opposite attracts kind of thing.

Favorite Tracks: That's Not Me / Sloop Jon B / God Only Knows / Caroline, No Rating: 3.8 Ah, here we go, one of those albums that when you start to get into vinyl shows up on every MUST HAVE list. Well, guess what I don't own "Rumors" or "Moondance" or even "Buena Vista Social Club" either lol. Overall, a nice little listen. I can certainly understand all the praise for the production, it's rich and so balanced and there's such a diversity of sounds and instrumentation. I liked the few songs I already knew I liked, and the rest were pleasant. I found the high pitch falsetto a little distracting generally. I'll round up to a 4 for me score, I'd certainly listen to this again though, especially with headphones...but I wasn't moved enough to go order it on vinyl :)

Pleasant for working to. I recognized at least half the songs.

Wouldn't It Be Nice - 5/5 You Still Believe in Me - 4/5 That's Not Me - 3.5/5 Don't Talk - 3.5/5 I'm Waiting for the Day - 4/5 Let's Go Away for Awhile - 4/5 Sloop John B - 4.5/5 God Only Knows - 5/5 I Know There's An Answer - 4.5/5 Here Today - 4/5 I Just Wasn't Made for These Times - 3.5/5 Pet Sounds - 4/5 Caroline, No - 3.5/5 A monumental album for pop music that still (mostly) holds up today. One of the first concept albums (though I didn't exactly get the concept until I looked it up), it blends the 50s pop sensabilities with more orchestral instrumentation to form something that people still look back upon all these years later. I would give it 5 stars, but some questionable production cues hold it back for me from being a masterpiece in my eyes. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, I Know There's An Answer

a classic for sure. glad for the excuse to listen again.

this was great

omg this was great

Man, I love the Beach Boys. This album starts off with an absolute club banger, except every song after fell off lowkey. They were still good, just not as good as the first song. Overall, though this album is just some good vibes to put on.

Classic album,

We could live forever tonight let’s not think about tomorrow

Woo! That’s a great fuckin record man!

“This is one of the albums that made the sixties”

Its pretty good.

Another band who I know the hits from but have never done a deep dive into an album before. Whilst certainly being of it’s time it still sounds pretty fresh, so you can tell it was really well produced. It’s inoffensive and quite light pop so plays along pretty nicely in the background, whilst not being background noise like some albums.

It's brilliantly done, it sounds lovely, a technical achievement, some amazing songs. Am I likely to listen to it in the next 12 months? No.

Another a couple of listens and it could be a five album

# Album Name: Pet Sounds # Artist: Beach Boys # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Some banging tunes on this album. But also a fair amount of filler and average songs. A very good album. Classic beach boys in some areas # Top Tunes: Wouldnt it be nice / John B / God only knows # Would I listen to it again? Yes

The highs are absolutely stratospheric, which is why this is getting a 4 I enjoyed it a lot, but I think there are a few tracks that are just 'good' which stops it being an all timer

Cute is exactly the right word. Feel good summer nostalgia

Chill 4

This album makes me want to drop acid on a Californian beach and stop being such a square, man.

Oh man this is great, I did play God Only Knows as our wedding song so I am not that objective. I haven’t listened to the whole album a lot before so this was a nice chance to do that again again. It does sounds a bit dated but for me that’s not a problem. The sounds is so fun, it brings that 60’s positivity in your room. Not for every occasion but a great album nonetheless!

had some intense debates with my dad about this album since he's a skeptic but i think my final opinion is that yes, this is incredible child-like and juvenile but that is the appeal for an album that approaches love and being inquisitive about the world in the most sincere way and for that i have to give it its tens

I liked it. Don’t think that i got nearly as much out of it as I could have, but still a good time. Production sounds great, even 60 years later. I was really happy when this showed up for my second day as it’s something I’ve been meaning to check out for a very long time. Going to relisten at some point for sure.

One of the best openers of any album. I've listened to this many times but with a new listen here's what I took away. The whole album overall is sonically perfect and it's great to listen to. Mostly calm but overall somewhat similar in tone from one song to the next. Maybe that's the point but after the opener there's nothing that really stands out from one song to the next with a few exceptions. You can get a little lost listening to the album from start to finish.

The songs are great! I always had this image of the Beach Boys as this airy summertime fun band, and to an extent that's true, but the lyrics on this record are often pretty deep

What notes am I supposed to put other than I liked it

Very goofy album, 2 musical interludes?
