Reviews (page 6 of 15)

The impact this album has had is hard to fathom. I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard an artist refer to it when talking about influences; probably more than any other work. That alone earns it a spot on this list. And understandably so. Their harmonies are unparalleled, the songwriting is amazing, and the music is great. The fact that I never listened to this entire album before is probably criminal. From a personal standpoint, The Beach Boys was the first concert I went to when I was twelve (opened up for by THE Katrina and the Waves), so they will always have a place in my heart.

Best album ever

Love love love the instruments and melodies

The Beatles wish they could be The Beach Boys. Good, fun, delicate collection of songs. A wonderful, tender listen. Standouts: Wouldn’t It Be Nice, Don’t Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder), I’m Waiting For The Day, Let’s Go Away For Awhile, Here Today, I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times, and Pet Sounds.

It is very good. Lots of good songs. God Only Knows is very good, as are some of the lesser known Beach Boys songs on these albums. Overall, very good.

Groovy

Love the production.

In my top ten of my most listened to albums. Amazing from beginning to end.

great album

Classic. I would love to live in an alternate universe where the Beach Boys kept exploring this path.

This is the album you get when you confine a semi-psychotic musical genius (Brian Wilson) in a sandpit with some goats and a sizeable budget. Pet Sounds is that rare album where I can say that nothing - absolutely nothing - sounds quite like it. I challenge you to prove me wrong. There's something so oddly gratifying about the loopy chord progressions (consisting of a lot of melancholic maj7 chords), slightly blurry orchestra sound, the angelic voice of Brian Wilson, the silky-yet-rough-around-the-edges American production sound... But the fact that it's so hard to pin down is probably why it hasn't been replicated. The songs themselves are straight up bangers, start to finish. The trio of radio-friendly tracks - Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows - are all fantastic, incorporating pop elements from the Beach Boys' "rival" band, the Beatles, among other influences. The two instrumental tracks, particularly the first one, Let's Go Away For Awhile, are beautifully composed; the tasteful entry and dropping-out of different wacky instruments is especially noticeable. Most of the remaining eight tracks take on an introspective vibe that's noticeably different from their previous output, and indeed from nearly all pop music up to 1966. I would list highlights, but it's so hard to choose. Don't Talk is just utterly gorgeous and a brutal reminder that, as a single person, I'm missing out on a lot. You Still Believe In Me has such an unpredictable melody and smooth, goosebump-inducing harmonies (and a car horn). Oh yeah, I should mention the vocal harmonies. It's the Beach Boys. The harmonies are spectacular. Nothing else to say. The bass playing is also worth pointing out. It contributes monumentally to that gorgeous sound that's so hard to pin down. Rating: 5/5 Key tracks: all of them Caroline: No

I love the album. I don’t understand the musical history behind it but know of its infamy. I just think it’s a bomb little moody pop album. I love the grumpy lyrics mixed with sunny beachy tunes. Surprisingly intricate.

it’s one of the all time greats

There's a reason this album is frequently on lists of the greatest albums of all time. The vocal harmonies are amazing, and the sound is so full and lush. The songs range from good to excellent. I listened to both mono and stereo versions. In my experience, I have found that if the album was originally released in mono that tends to be better than the stereo version, but in this case, the stereo mix is very well done and I prefer that one.

Goated w the sauce

Perfect

One of the best albums of all time. Brian Wilson's masterpiece.

All the hope of the sixties wrapped up in one album. Sorry it never worked out like you wanted, boys.

Take me back to a time when pop music was exploratory and worth something. Sheer perfection 5.0

I always thought The Beach Boys were annoying, but listening to this album changed my mind.

Fantastic! A phenomenal record, it is an unbridled delight to listen to for my ears and soul. Every track is great in its own way. This is the crown jewel achievement of Brian Wilson’s delicate musical genius. Truly revolutionary and unlike anything else ever recorded before. It’s a masterpiece. All killer and no filler, just like Brian wanted.

It's like a being wrapped in a big warm comfort blanket and it makes me happy. What more could i want? nothing really

Najbolje pjesme: 1. Here Today 2. Don't Talk (Put Your Hand On My Shoulder) 3. Let's Go Away For A While 4. Wouldn't It Be Nice 5. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 6. That's Not Me 7. I Know There's An Answer

its Pet Sounds

Brach Boys aren't one of my favorites, but you have to recognize Brian Wilson's genius here.

Absolutely wonderful, as always. I know most of these songs already and I love them. Great listen.

It sounds like young love, summertime, TV and Movie soundtracks that you can't name but make you smile. The harmonies are familiar, even on tracks that I haven't heard a million times and the building and layering on the melodies is really a study in "how to make a listenable song." Classic for a reason.

splendid spectacular impressive striking glorious superb majestic awesome awe-inspiring breathtaking sumptuous resplendent grand imposing monumental palatial noble proud stately exalted

Tolle Produktion, toller Mix, tolle Vielfalt

Great!

I found true appreciation for this album (and The Beach Boys in general) after seeing the movie Love and Mercy which I recommend.

Oh yay, this album is so incredible you need to listen to it in MONO to really appreciate it? Is it? Or is it one of those automatic classics we just assume has always been incredible? Don't we have to deduct points here simply because singer Mike Love is arguably the biggest douchebag in rock history? What's with the fucking goats, anyway? Ultimately all that matters is people will be listening to, and covering, God Only Knows a million years from now. Forget all the surfer shit, God Only Knows is the essential song Brian Wilson will forever be remembered for. And STILL, you listen to this album completely and remember Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and I Guess I Just Wasn't Made For These Times are included. Along with Hang On To Your Ego, a song you first remember hearing the Pixies and Frank Black cover. And you understand how depressed Brian Wilson was because he found a way to include it in every waking moment of the album, so much so that THERE WASN'T ROOM for Good Vibrations (?!?), the only song that will possibly outlast God Only Knows and is arguably Brian Wilson's quintessential master work. Oh, and I'm Waiting For The Day is one of the greatest deep cuts found on any album in any genre. Listings of the greatest albums of all time have been released and re-released in the decades following, and Pet Sounds is ALWAYS in the top 5. Because it sounds even better in stereo, where you understand that if you had to deal with Mike Love's shit, you'd be as depressed as Brian Wilson, too. Thank God he has brother Carl Wilson sing lead on God Only Knows, because who the hell else could deliver that beautiful vocal. And ultimately, you start to wonder if one day Brian Wilson is going to remembered and mentioned in the same circles as Mozart and Beethoven. This album alone puts him there.

Crazy how I don’t think I ever heard this beyond the singles before. So complex and beautiful

Great album

Masterpiece!

Brilliant. This album changed the sound of music, and I could not listen to it enough.

Between the harmonies, songwriting, production and revolutionary chord progressions that are still used all over the world today, this is such a phenomenal album that its minor flaws can be easily forgiven.

9/10. I was leaning 8 up until Pet Sounds. It felt like that song allowed me to better digest what they were doing instrumentally throughout the album.

It's motherfucking Pet Sounds

Amazing!! So many beautiful songs on here.

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up on a Friday morning to Pet Sounds being the album of the day? Love this album so much. Sloop John B makes me emotional with how much I love it, it’s just so great. Their departure from bubble gum surf rock (which is also fun) while still feeling like The Beach Boys is just a delight. Everything is so well composed and thoughtful. A beautiful wall of sound. And it even ends with a train and some dogs, chef’s kiss. Easy 5 for me!

Absolute classic, strong start. 9/10

Brian Wilson's answer to the Phil Spector Wall Of Sound production design and the Beatles Rubber Soul album. Here is a band pushing to be even more than they were, a transition from the beach sound persona and stretching and experimenting with sound and what an album could be. They brought in the infamous Wrecking Crew to play the instruments on this album and then layered vocal harmonies, strings, and orchestra. A fuller sound and a departure from the standard method of creating a few hot singles for 45 sales and then padding out the rest of the album with fluff. Brian pushed hard to create a record with no filler, a concept album more to do with design than lyrically. Brian began to delve into psychedelics and continued with marijuana use here, claiming that it opened him up creatively. Whether that was the case, it is hard to argue with the beauty of the songs on the album. Pet Sounds stands as an album that was influenced by other greats of the time and in turn was an influence on those same greats amongst others. Pretty, happy, yet melancholic throughout.

Yesterday's review was for The Cure's Disintegration, which I called "Pet Sounds for the 1980s and goths." I think that gets across more than enough for Pet Sounds itself. I'd be lying if I said I loved every track on here, but the big songs are among the best in history.

It’s considered one of the greatest albums ever made. This is for good reason. At no point does it drag. There are no skips. What The Beach Boys have crafted is one of pop musics finest moments. One so good it shook music and changed production forever!

One of the all-time greats. What can I even say that hasn't been said.

Definitely an art piece in full. From the head of the creator to the groove of the lp, this was carefully constructed with a specific sound in mind and it definitely shows. Although overly sentimental, it manages to overcome that perhaps by the sheer baroqueness surrounding it. This to me is also part of the birth of the artist as being in control of their art and not getting shelved just because it is possibly not going to be economically successful. One cannot deny the perfect success of lyrics and sound of "God only knows". I do wish Heroes and villians had been on this album.

Great album. I don’t want to say underrated because it is obviously a a classic and critically acclaimed but maybe disproportionately rated. Probably one of the best 60’s pop records. Super innovative and influential. Brian Wilson’s songwriting and arranging is really unique. I love “ wasn’t made for these times” and “god only knows”

What a masterpiece! This album is pretty much perfect in every way, the songwriting is incredible and the arrangements are genius. God only knows is a perfect song.

So great and brings back so many memories for me: beach boys are one of my dad’s favorites and he played them all summer long when I was growing up. God only knows is so freaking amazing

A classic album!

just incredible. If I could, I would rate it six stars.

My third album here is an existing fav Fav tracks: God only knows (obviously) Ik there’s an answer I just wasnt made for these times Wouldn’t it be nice

an absolute classic start to finish

Greatest album ever

It’s one of the greatest albums ever, enough said.

The ideal pop album. Every song is immaculately detailed and embellished. For example, look at how much Wouldn't It Be Nice packs into three minutes, with numberous instrumental passages, denouements and clever use of ritardando. The arrangements are expertly utilised, and never distract from the pop nature of the record, and every tune takes more shape than Smile would. The production, sharp, and unobtrusive, is the greatest evidence of Brian Wilson's genius as a producer, and still is greatly influential in the pop world. However it doesn't take genius to realise that the power of Pet Sounds lies in the direct emotion and clarity of every moment of it. And every part, every line, still sounds immaculate and universal.

Love songs as lovely as they can get. You can tell that they mastered this album for the speakers in home at the times, but even today with the remasters it doesnt miss a beat making that iconic beach boy harmony dance inside your ears.

The product of one man’s fevered imagination, and vision…incredible

Already thought this was one of the best.

God Only Knows is one of the best songs ever crafted.

Pet Sounds stands as a pivotal album in the history of music, marking a significant change in how albums were made. Brian Wilson's innovative direction and careful craftsmanship resulted in a work of immense ambition, known for its intricate arrangements, refined musicality, and heartfelt lyrics. This influential album is widely recognised as one of the greatest in the realm of popular music, credited with reshaping the boundaries of rock music and inspiring future generations of artists. Notably, Pet Sounds pioneered the concept album format in rock music, threading a coherent narrative throughout its tracks and transforming the album into a profound artistic statement. I was fortunate enough to experience Brian perform this album live and it still gives me goosebumps thinking back to it. Pet Sounds offers an unforgettable journey into Wilson's creative brilliance and one that everyone should experience. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 9 STAND OUT TRACK - Sloop John B

♥️♥️♥️

Obviously a 5. Read the wiki and I didn’t realise this thing was pretty much all Brian Wilson. I listened to a stereo version which I thought sounded awesome, I struggle a bit with mono as I can find it hard to pick out instruments (even on my mega Sonys). Think the stereo mix really shows off the production and sounds he used. Deffo gonna b listening to this again. I listened to it on the train to Córdoba

Not much too say about this that hasn't been said already, but I'll try: 1. This album has a world you get lost in, like a film for your mind 2.That world is a teenage twilight zone, an uncynical ponderance of the child, the adult, and the desire to save the child from the adult. It pushes deep buttons that are memories free of nostalgia of flickers of time of the age when you know your folks are full of shit, and you will never be full of shit. 3. Angelic Choirs abound. So beautiful, they should paint the lyrical narratives on the ceilings cathedrals and the like. 4."The Sloop John B" is when you score beer. Just fabulous.

Such a classic!

The best Beach Boys album and probably the biggest change in genre/sound from their previous albums. Unique instrumentation and arrangements. Subdued percussion. Beautiful vocals. Brian took the Beach Boys formula and made it modern and unique by abandoning the "surf/party song" pattern. God Only Knows gets me every time. Amazing that Good Vibrations was not on this album - it was a single. Brian and the Boys were amazing for this brief time.

Brian Wilson is second only to Paul McCartney for the gift of melody in songwriting. A genius

.It's always a summer-feeling when i hear them.

Sounded like summer.

Brian Wilson's finest. Blending their tiered pop sound into a revolutionary record.

Love love love!!!

Some of the arrangements can be a bit much, but there is a reason this is considered a masterpiece. Even when it's too much it still works.

Nice album

Very classic, felt like I knew most of the songs. Great album from start to finish.

Favourite tracks: god only knows; sloop John b; wouldn't it be nice; wasn't made for these times; Caroline no; I know there's an answer

God Only Knows is one of the greatest songs ever written.

Could this be in my top 5?

My favorite album of all time.

one of the best albums ever recorded

There have only been a few albums like this in history. Multiple hits and no bad songs.

4.5, but lets give it a five.

The Beach Boys' answer to Rubber Soul has enduring classics like Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows, but also great deeper cuts. To name a few: Let's Go Away For Awhile is orchestral with chimes and drum rolls. Sloop John B ends side one with more interesting percussion over a rock beat. I Know There's An Answer is layered with harmonies and different sounds. Essential.

My favorite album of all time!!! Y'know how many days in college I spent lying in the dark listening to "I wasn't made for these times"

Epísk plata sem hafði gífurleg áhrif á tónlistarsöguna. Algjörlega galið að Surfer-rock hljómsveit hafi dregið þessa kanínu upp úr hattinum. Óskiljanlegt hvernig þeir sömdu bara God only knows.

God only knows er eins og það komi úr einhverri annarri æðri tónlistarvídd.. Mér finnst líka I just wasn´t made for these times alltaf ótrúlega fallegt, enda Brian einfaldlega of mikill snillingur fyrir þennan heim.

The most boring album of good music

One first though on listening today was: what's not to like? An album that works, and that leave you feeling better for having listened.

Incredible album that flows effortlessly. One of those records you put on and listen to all the way through.

This is easy listening at its finest that make these intricate melodies and amazing musicality seamless and deceptively simple.

Enjoyed listening to this. Good mixture of familiar and unfamiliar songs. Brilliant harmonys as one expects from The beach boys. 👍

Classic

Best beach boys album, in contention for best ever

One the best albums ever Or is the best

For Gen Z and Gen Alpha, you would think they should like this because all the songs are short. Even if the lyrics are sad it is still a very impressive and classic album

Great album

Such a classic album

Classic 60s pop album, revered by even The Beatles. The lesser-known songs were more eclectic than I expected.

This is truly gorgeous, the platinum standard of pop albums. Richly textured musically, with stunning moments of creativity and thoughtful, plain-sung lyrics that hit you straight in the heart. Just layers and layers of pure beauty to unpack, but so accessible and full of boundless charm. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Wouldn't It Be Nice; God Only Knows; I Know There's an Answer; Caroline, No; You Still Believe in Me; Sloop John B; I Just Wasn't Made for These Times; Here Today; That's Not Me; I'm Waiting for the Day; Let's Go Away for Awhile; Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder); Pet Sounds

I bought this album on CD years ago. Love it. I'm in a hurry to get to my next album, though.

Glen Camble was on this album!

I wonder what makes some songs hits and others completely unheard?

Obviously.

Excellent

Classic Beach Boys. Easy listening. Very good

One of the very best.

Blije sound. Opgewekt gevoep. Pyschelische rock vibe. Heel goed

Awesome album, fits a mellow mood

I Just Wasn't Made For These Times is iconic. I was missing out.

This album is a favourite of mine. It's well before it's time and ended up inspiring the Beatles Sgt Peppers album. This album is simply a masterpiece made from experimentation.

The best album of all time. Perfect chorus of all members and composition from Brian Wilson

Love this album. I love the harmonies, the melancholy, the weird sound collages, the Sloop John B, the pace. So many ideas packed so neatly into 35 minutes.

Very listenable! This album was just so fun to listen to, and is so well-crafted. I could use a little less of the clicky percussion present in some of the songs but that is really my only note.

Listening to reggae and eagles back to back made this even better

Love The Beach Boys

Love this album, a true classic

I really liked it! Truthfully I have heard a couple of these before but never the whole album- very much enjoyed ☺️

Sloop John B. Would have preferred to listen on headphones or better speakers

Completely original. Totally unique sounds throughout. Full of absolutely beautiful songs. Plus it has sloop john b for some reason and despite being out of place that song is great. A Masterpiece.

This album is a phenomenal example of a band going an experimental route while still staying true to their own unique sound and having it all come out perfect. One of their first albums after separating with their long time manager, and many member's father, the band felt more free to create music they were passionate about. The songs are absolutely and completely beautiful. The lyrics are gorgeous and heartbreaking at all the appropriate times. Production is incredible, instrumentation is tight, vocals and harmonies are enchanting, and the vibe is immaculate across the entire album. The instrumentals "Let's Go Away for Awhile" and "Pet Sounds" don't feel forced like instrumentals often do. They fit perfectly into the structure of the album and I have no complaints with any of it. A masterpiece. 5/5

There is something about this record that never gets old, it's a warm blanket on a cold winter day! Or I guess it's a cold drink on a hot summer day? Let's just go surfing or snowboarding or something!

This is another obvious 5. To be honest, I’m surprised it only has a 3.9. Orchestrated to perfection, mature lyrics, amazing melodies, you’ve heard it all before. You don’t need my opinion on this.

album was a great influence throughout the music industry at the time.

oh well of course!

As perfect as perfect gets. The kind of record that has books written about it, and deserves them.

Goat'd

Some of the greatest songs ever written. Brian Wilson's a genius in every sense of the word.

Great early psychedelic masterpiece.

Timeless

Amazing

Incredible from start to finish. Hard to believe the era it was created. Can listen to this anytime and enjoy.

I listened to the Atmos mix of this they have on Apple Music on my Sonos today. The wall of music effect really suits it well.

Everything that can be said about this album has already been said a thousand times Brian Wilson and Tony Asher’s lyrics are beautiful and profound Wilson’s production is top-notch Instrumentation by the Wrecking Crew provides a psychedelic yet earthy atmosphere to the music Favourite tracks: Wouldn’t It Be Nice, You Still Believe In Me, Don’t Talk, God Only Knows, I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times, Caroline, No

Brian fuckin Wilson is the Wall of Sound

Brian Wilson drove his bandmates nuts making this album, but no one else could create the original, wildly creative sound he directed. A pop masterpiece that doesn’t sound like pop at all. Like classical music that’s actually interesting.

A classic. Variously ebullient and haunting.

tiene todo - melodías, armonías, arreglos. todavía suena un poco como si hubiera llegado de marte.

An absolute classic, without doubt one of the best albums ever. Brian Wilson is a genius. there really isn't much more to say

A definite classic. How do you not give this 5 stars when it still sounds amazing 60 years later?

Probably the best album of theirs

baroque, pop, music

One of my all time favourites! God Only Knows is the most prefect song!

I think it’s great Got the young energy just like are playing on the beach with your boy squad With also some track showing some tension or blue side.

5/5. This is a perfect pop album. I can pick any song and it would be better than most other pop songs. I am biased as I have put this on repeat many times before this list but I’m never tired of hearing it. The instrumentation is so unique with all the bells and whistles and the vocal harmonies are beyond beautiful. Best song: God only knows, Wouldn’t it be nice

So many interesting things going on in this album! So many instruments and sounds! Such good songs! It deserves its acclamation. I could listen again and again and again.

You know, I thought that I had listened to the album before, but there were a couple of tracks that struck me as completely unfamiliar. Those "unfamiliar" tracks were also my least favorite in this listen, so maybe they were just not memorable for me. As a whole, I loved it!

I expected something much weirder after everything I’ve heard about this record. All I hear is beauty. Kudos!

In 2015 I saw the movie “Love and Mercy” about Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys and finally made the effort to listen to Pet Sounds. I liked it a lot! Now, after even more exposure to The Beach Boys I like this even more. Each time I listen I hear more of what is going on in the arrangements and it is pretty jaw-dropping! What an amazing album!

In 1965, Brian Wilson changed pop music to a degree that could only be rivaled by the Beatles. This album took a progressive spin on rock music, incorporating classical orchestras, strange key choices, and unusual choices of instruments (like bike horns and soda cans) to produce a beautiful and lush yet consistent album that reflects the introspective and highly emotional moods and thoughts of Wilson. Vocals are much richer and more complex than previous Beach Boys works, aligning with the instrumentation and lyrical subject to create something that feels deep. Every album on here is a hit, and I was moved by many tracks in ways that no other album could compare. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" has such adolescent optimism for a future motivated by intense feelings of romance. It's such a perfect opener, with a nostalgic opening melody and bursting with so much energy and excitement. It invokes classic Beach Boys harmonies but Wilson's shifting lead vocals are so novel. And it's so fast too, with no second feeling wasted. My favorite lyrics here are the bridge "You know it seems the more we talk about, it only makes it worse to live without it. But let's talk about it." This pretty much says all you need to know about the song, how self-aware the narrator is in his own naïveté. The closing scats just show his joy and excitement for the future. "You Still Believe in Me" immediately shows what this album is going to be about, showcasing the sentimentality and surprisingly intimate vocal techniques. The fuzzy deep intro forms a stark contrast to the intro song. The overlaying baroque harpsichord set a very mild tone until the loud vocals burst near the end. The simple harpsichord allows the strange instruments to really stand out and pull your attention, like the bike horns. Then there's that false ending before the loud vocals suddenly come in again. It's all very dramatic and uncomfortable but fitting for the themes and emotions conveyed. "That's Not Me" is a bit of an unsettling song with how neither the instruments nor vocals ever seem to take a break. He just keeps going about how confused he is that he abandoned everything he loved to go for his dreams, which turned out to not live up to expectations. A highly relatable song and a common theme of depression, you can feel his emotional state. Both a subject and method were never really seen in music before. "Don't Talk" is the most sentimental song on the album, so low and intimate and sincere. Very romantic how the whole song is about him relaxing his lover to just exist and enjoy each other's presence. "I'm Waiting for the Day" is a cute relatable song about someone trying to change someone's world who has been hurt and traumatized by another. The narrator is so passionate (punk-like music) and sentimental (baroque pop). It's fun transitioning between the two moods of fiery love and sincere love. "Let's ‎Go Away for Awhile" is one of two instrumental tracks that Wilson felt was better without vocals, and I agree. It's too busy and peaceful for vocals and contributes really well to the vibe. It's a beautiful fusion between pop and classical, and I wish more music like this existed. I guess New Age is close, but this is so much fuller and multi-layered. ‎"Sloop John B" is another radio staple and the loudest and catchiest song. A pretty emotional song that just gets increasingly louder about someone who so desperately wants to go back to where he feels safe and comfortable. Super catchy and fun, a great way to close the side and excite people for the second half. "God Only Knows" is regarded as one of the most acclaimed songs of all time, and for a good reason with how insanely powerful its lyrics and string orchestral sound are. Featuring all sorts of strange instruments, my favorites are the whimsical woodwinds in the middle. The most memorable part is that gradually louder closer utilizing the vocal rounds. "I Know There's an Answer" is a gorgeous song originally titled "Hang on to your Ego" until anti-drug Mike Love threatened to leave unless they changed it. A really powerful chorus and an awesome horn section. God, these instruments sound so perfect together in that closer. "Here Today" is the most tense song on the album. So powerful when the back vocals and horns burst in during the chorus. I was really engaged once I heard that plot twist in the middle. I really love the poetic dragging complaints; you can really feel his pain. That instrumental section is absolutely insane and a journey on its own. I like the idea that this is the same girl in "Wouldn't It Be Nice" showing a transition of love with so much hope to someone's entire world destroyed and him trying to save another victim. "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" is my favorite deep cut. So much emotion in those vocals of a socially isolated character. So many lines hit hard, from his superiority complex, to his sense of hopelessness, to his lack of fitting in. The build-up of the chorus is full of lush counterpoint harmonies and screaming lead vocals. The instrumental has cool hollow percussions and some weird screeching near the end. It just feels weird and sad, and leaves the audience feeling bad without a very satisfying conclusion, the narrator trailing off hopelessly. "Pet Sounds" is the other instrumental track. Sounds like lounge music with its groovy surf guitar sound and Latin percussion. The only song I felt could be better, but it's still amazing and memorable as is. "Caroline No" is a depressing closer to the record, with sparse quiet instrumentation. The smooth jazzy chorus is so pleasant but is short and quiet. My favorite part is again the narrator and his desperate pleas. This album had such a huge impact on me, and I was shocked by how an album could sound so depressing and hit me on an emotional level in so many ways. I listen to a lot of slowcore like dream pop and shoegaze, but most records tend to be tame or repetitive melodically as much as I like the sound. And most lyrics are too muffled for me to pay attention. But here, they take the spotlight and it's hard not to hear Brian Wilson's desperation and sincerity with super clear lyrics and emotional vocals. The melodies in themselves are too strange not to notice, and that's not even including the weird instruments mentioned. It's an all-around peculiar and incredible album, and I wish others like this could exist.

p85. 1966. 5 stars. The moment 60s pop music grew up, crystalised in 36 perfect minutes. "This is the album of all time. What the hell are we (The Beatles) going to do?" - Paul McCartney after listening to Pet Sounds, 1966

Gorgeous album. There is a reason they have made movies and documentaries about it.

All time classic. God Only Knows has one of the nicest melody/chord progression combos ever devised. Wouldn't it be Nice is such a great feel good song. The various supporting tracks here are a mixed bag but generally good. Brian Wilson had such an ear for melody and harmony, his vocal line compositions here are amazing. Shame he went nuts. Also Mike Love is a bastard.

This one feels like a gimme

Crafted with sonic harmonies and the genius of Brian Wilson.

Ah the Brian Wilson solo album.. Own it, haven't listened to for about 10 years. It is a beautiful masterpiece. Baroque pop with gorgeous production. Every track contains magic. 4.5

Just so absurdly lush, the arrangements here are so lovely it's insane. Musical profundity through and through.

A true staple piece in music. And prog pop is quite an interesting genre to explore as well.

heard this one before love this album

I love it I love them

Important, revolutionary and timeless. As groundbreaking now as it was back in 1966.

you can’t like indie music and ignore pet sounds.

Absolute classic. I always wonder what it would have been like to hear in when it come out, especially in comparison to the music released up until that point. One of the more significant touchstone points in popular music

This is an album that I enjoy more and more each time I listen to it. At first I couldn’t reconcile these largely lethargic songs with the sound I knew of the Beach Boys from one of the greatest hits packages I listened to as a kid. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why this was such a highly regarded album. In recent years I’ve come to appreciate how ambitious this album is. The sound palette and arrangements are lush and huge and unconventional for the time. The original mono mix is pretty dense, but the stereo mix reveals just how much ear candy is jammed into this record. I’ve never bought a copy of this record, mostly because I could never decide which mix I wanted. Listening to them side by side, I’ve decided I should have both. 4.5

One of the best. Listened to this on shrooms in Thailand and still remains as a very fond memory. Incredible amount of detail and effort went into this album, and it paid off.

Excellent listen

Fantastic album. I love the instrumentation and harmonies. Absolutely iconic.

Masterpiece.

One of the best albums of all-time. I listen to it often.

The album I was waiting for!

good album no bad song top 3 wouldn’t it be nice i’m waiting for the day sloop john b

Pretty much perfect. It's hard to overstate Brian Wilson's songwriting and harmonic talents here. One of my all time favorite concert memories is hearing The Beach Boys (full line up) play Wouldn't It Be Nice at Bonnaroo on a perfect summer day. I can keep going back to this one over and over without getting sick of it. 5/5

It took a second listen to really appreciate some of these songs, especially the slower ones. However this album grew on me a lot. I think I needed to be in the right mindset. The harmonies are great and the lyrics speak to me. 4.75/5

Absolutely fantastic album

Adventurous arraignments, great Melodie’s, excellent singing performances…Pet Sounds has it all and is deservedly considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Whether you are listening to the opening notes of “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” for the first or one hundredth time you are uplifted immediately. Each time you listen to pick up a new instrument or note being sung in the backing vocals. Each member of the band is on top form.

Believe the hype. This is a unique and powerful statement from an important American composer.

This is an amazing album. Even if every song besides "God Only Knows" was terrible, it would still be amazing just for that song. However, the other songs are still actually really good.

Can I give this 6 stars?

Pure class throughout, with a dozen top-shelf tracks of rich creativity and a few that are angelically ethereal. The editors seem lost on this band: there's no way that Beach Boys Today is a better record than this ... which is just pop music of a different order than 99.9% of all that's ever been recorded/released.

It's the beach boys.

So haunting and upbeat. I don't listen to this album very often, but it is a nice treat every once in a while.

perfection, Album #1

Not what I expected Really impressed by this album Much deeper than I imagined it to be Flows extremely well 9/10

What an iconic album. Brian Wilson really is a genius. I love Wikipedia's description, "A concept album but the concept is stylistic." It still sounds fresh. Fabulous.

Just as good as it’s reputation.

Shamefully, I’ve owned this on CD for at least a decade and have never listened to it. However, my parents were/are Beach Boys fans and I grew up listening to them. One of my earliest memories in life is putting a Beach Boys’ greatest hits CD in the stereo and turning on “Sloop John B.” Anyway, I’m glad I finally listened to it from start to finish. I actually knew most of the songs already. I don’t have any commentary good enough for this album.

When an album causes the Beatles to rethink their creative decisions and come up with Sgt. Pepper's, you've done something right.

Truly a masterpiece, this record is perfect and absolutely magnificent both in a singular context as well as within the context of when it was released. I have listened to it multiple times today--both the Mono and the Stereo mixes--and it's been absolutely wonderful.

there was a time where i didn't get the hype for this album and thought it was kind of boring but it was semi-recently when it clicked for me. it seems like every time that i listen a song from this album again, i notice something i haven't before. if there was a food that i could compare to this album, it would be a multi-tiered cake: decadent and layered. they also both have animals involved i guess.

just like brian wilson did

Never disappoints. Even though every time I come in thinking "This has got to be overhyped, right?"

Best album ever

classic

This is my first time listening to this album in full and I understand why it was so influential at the time. Still sounds fresh all these years later.

Amazing album, but I had never really heard Here Today. You can hear how it influenced so much after it in that one song.

absolute masterpiece

You can't rate this any less than 5 stars, you just can't. This is the literal groundwork of pop to come. Can someone hook that Sloop John B / God Only Knows side A to B transition to my veins? Innovative, creative, fun and perfect.

When I first heard this album (back in college), I thought it was a bit overrated, but still, it was quirky and pretty enough that I kept wanting to come back to it. And it gradually won me over. Other than the two instrumentals, every song on here has been my favorite song on here. (Currently, my favorite is "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)"). Anyway, I love it to death, though I can totally understand others not digging it or even wondering what all the fuss is about. But it's weird and wonderful and unexpected and honest and imperfect-but-trying-really-hard. And I love that about it. I dig all the bizarre arrangements and crazy left turns and lush chords and the bass playing and of course those harmonies. Again, I get it if it's not your bag. But it is definitely mine.

'Pet Sounds' is one of the most influental albums of all time - the influence it had on the development of pop music is inmeasurable. It's genius, timeless, and it is such an incredibly beautiful record. It is also one of my favourite albums of all times, in my Top 3 definitely.

It’s a great album but it just pisses me off when people call it a concept album.5/5 though

Love this one. It’s my buddy, Gil’s, favorite album. 5/5 89/100

have loved this album my whole life

"Se" Beach Boys-levy. Onhan tämä komea kokonaisuus biisien, instrumentaation ja impaktin perusteella. Eli eiköhän se 5/5 ole ansaittu.

I already know I love this album. It's going to be a 5/5. Excited to listen to it again today. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said about the incredible songwriting on this album. Brian Wilson is great. Standout Tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice, You Still Believe In Me, That's Not Me, Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder), I'm Waiting for the Day, Let's Go Away for a While, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, I Know There's an Answer, Here Today, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, Caroline No

Genre: Progressive pop Favorite songs: Wouldn't It Be Nice, God only knows, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times and Caroline, no

Brian Wilson’s magnum opus. An eargasm for the ages.

Everything about this album I love because it reminds me of my dad 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Amazing album that gets better every time you listen to it. I have heard about the band long time before, but I really paid attention to them after watching the movie "Love And Mercy", that shows the making of this album and visualise life of Brian Wilson. Immediately after the movie I have bought the vinyl version of the record, and I have to admit - I'm not a big fan of music from 60s or 70s, but "Pet Sounds" is not only amazing, but it holds up really well. Almost every song on the album is a hit and should be much more prominent in radio. Also, I have to agree, it is one of the best albums of all time.

One of the best albums ever in existence.

Genius

I'm not sure I can think of any album as universally enjoyable as Pet Sounds. If you told me you didn't at least appreciate this album I'd be a bit concerned. The influence of the Beach Boys is also undeniable, there is a reason the term "Beach Boys Harmonies" is so frequently heard. God only knows and Wouldn't It Be Nice are absolutely huge singles and you'd be forgiven for describing this as a singles album but then you relisten and remember the rest of the tracks are pretty great too. Not my favourite album but on balance deserving of the classic status.

It's interesting that *Pet Sounds* is not part of the twenty most praised albums on this app. Heck, its overall score reveals that it's actually pretty far behind those twenty LPs. This suggests what I have always suspected: maybe this record has always been slightly overrated, as influential as it was. Were it not for the British critics that singled out that Beach Boys release when it came out on their side of the pond, would we talk so much about it? And in such laudatory terms? That being said, *Pet Sounds* is still a masterpiece that deserves its 5/5 grade, just like Brian Wilson intended when he and the rest of the Beach Boys recorded it. When you write and arrange heavenly music such as the one found on "God Only Knows", "Wouldn't It be Nice", "Don't Talk" or "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times", you're a genius, period. Your peers are acts like The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana... In other words, you're in very good company, whether or not you made one of the twenty best albums of all time. Podiums are not everything anyway, especially when you're creating original, moving and groundbreaking art such as this. Maybe Wilson indeed wasn't made for those times he lived in. But he sure changed the latter so that it would fit with *his* vision. That takes a lot of skills, a lot of talent. Hence the rightful inclusion of *Pet Sounds* in a list such as this. Number of albums left to review: 720 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 138 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 67 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 76

This is an album that every time I listen to it I think this is my favorite album of all time. The sounds and textures of it are so progressive and unlike anything else in the era.

Yep, spoken about in hushed terms by just about everybody, contrary me decided I didn't want to listen to it for years. However, when I finally did relent I realised all the plaudits and awards given to it are justified. It's just fucking great, sad, whistful and mental. Best Tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice; I'm Waiting For The Day; God Only Knows

Awesome album, every song a winner.

God I really don’t know where to start with Pet Sounds. I got really into the Beach Boys maybe 2 years ago? I don’t remember how it started, but I was immediately drawn to Brian Wilson’s vocals and production style. Every song these guys made was full of emotion, longing, sadness, and joy. The Beach Boys’ first 6 or so albums possess some of the most beautiful vocal harmonies you’ve ever heard. Makes the Four Seasons sound like a bunch of yelping cats. Anyways, Pet Sounds is absolutely their magnum opus, and it’s visible as soon as the first track, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, a wonderfully wistful song about being young and in love. There’s not a song on hear I don’t love: the long vocals on “You Still Believe In Me”, the wonderful interplay of Mike’s lead vocals and Brian’s falsetto on “That’s Not Me”, the psychedelic “Don’t Talk”, the songwriting of “I’m Waiting for the Day”, the percussion on “Let’s Go Away for Awhile”, and of course, the ever-happy “Sloop John B”. Side 2 is just a perfect: “God Only Knows”, Brian’s visible soul on “I Know There’s An Answer”, the silly “Here Today”, the camp sadness of “I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times”, the sleigh bells on “Pet Sounds”, and of course, the beautifully sad (yet too short) “Caroline, No”. I fucking love this album. I’ve listened to it a billion times, and it always gets slightly better every time I do. Probably my favorite album of all time.

This is a perfect album. It has long been one of my favorites (my wife and I had our first dance to "God Only Knows"), and it is still so singular and grand in its sound. It doesn't try hard to be deep (although the alternate version of "I know there's an answer" is straight up about tripping on acid), there is such an earnest innocence on the edge of adulthood that instantly hits a nostalgic nerve.

Masterful.

An important album filled with beautiful songs with interesting arrangements and production. 4.5/5

One of my all time favorites.

It would be so nice!

Probably the most perfect album of all time.

It’s weird how the older this album get and the more I hear it, the more it sounds like it was beamed in from another dimension, even though all of the sounds on it are recognizably human. Just a pure masterclass in pop songwriting, production, and arrangement.

It’s fuckin Pet Sounds

It started with one of my favourite songs: wouldn't it be nice. The Beach Boys are a very special band to me, so I'm glad this was the first to come up! 💛 This brings me nostalgia, good vibes and it returns me to the good moments of my childhood. I liked all the musics, so i'm saving this album!!!

I just wasn't made for these times Sloop John B wouldn't it be nice Caroline no

Perfection

Admittedly, this isn't my favorite Beach Boys release but you have to recognize the genius of it. The vocal layers and sound samples are absolutely magical. Sometimes they overrun the song itself but most of the time it's perfect.

The Production, the harmonies, the creativity :O Classic album.

Why am I crying in the surf shack rn?

An all-time classic album!

Not much to say that has not already been said a 1000 times.

After multiple listens this weekend, I’m concluding that this album that I’ve been meaning to listen to for decades is absolutely wonderful!

What a contrast to the previous day's flat affect. Incredible that this is considered pop - although I don't know what else I'd call it. I got this album at a thrift shop after wondering what the "Good Vibrations" and "Barbara Ann" group ever did to make an album I'd always heard was transcendent. Well, it is! (and for the record, Good Vibrations started to make more sense too). Incredibly creative instrumentation and arrangements, deep lyrics, beautiful production.

Whenever a publication makes a "Greatest Albums of All Times" list, "Pet Sounds" is inevitably in the mix, and it getting picked #1 isn't unusual. I've listened to it before, but didn't really get what all the fuss was about, so I dove into the Wiki page for context as I listened to it. And then I listened to it a couple more times. And you know what? I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best album ever, but it *is* excellent. Judging the album as a cohesive whole rather than just a bunch of songs slapped together on the same hunk of vinyl helped (and that's what we're doing here, right?). And getting some of the background from Wikipedia helped contextualize it. As for individual songs, "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Sloop John B," and "God Only Knows" were my preexisting favorites, but new favorites include "That's Not Me," "I'm Waiting for the Day," "I Know There's an Answer," and "Here Today." I definitely slept on this album, but no more! These pets make great music.

Stellar. One of my favorite bands & albums. I'd argue that Beach Boys are the best American band.

Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows makes this a legendary album. 50 years later and we're still listening to these songs. I Know There's an Answer is an under appreciated song. The lyrics are not great, but the music is super interesting.

Beautiful

Classic, a must.

perfect talented beautiful amazing one of a kind

Classic 1960s California Beach Soundtrack

Predictable 5.

One of the best albums of all time!

One of the best ever

Immaculate and timeless album- It’s DNA is woven into the fabric of modern music. It’s a brief album that’s bursting with ideas and melodies.

Definitive Beach Boys for me. Wouldn't it Be Nice, Sloop John B, and God Only Knows all on one record? It's a fantastic collection of sounds.

I don't have to listen to this one yet again, but I will. 5 Stars. Blindly, Easily, 5 stars. A must listen.

If this was 5 albums you must hear before you die this would still be here

The timbres, melodies and grooves are those that I have heard contemporaries try to hit. Many pull from thee. Bows to Brian Wilson. He wasn't made for these times.

The seminal Beach Boys album, I've never heard it front to back but so many references to it from anyone talking about the band, I knew it would show up on this list eventually. Didn't disappoint, you can feel the band transition from pop/surf music to something more. You still have the harmonizing the band is known for, but it's more of a psychadelic tone. Great album, definitely would listen to again.

A 60’s pop masterpiece, one of the truly ground breaking albums of its time.

Interesting influence on later music.

Excellent, one of the greatest of all time. Every track is enjoyable, some are obviously better than others, but I love every one.

Not sure what more I can say about this album beyond what's been said a million times. It's a masterpiece, start to finish. 5 stars.

Great from start to finish.

Utterly lush and lavnish. So many great tracks within a nicely integrated feel overall. Beyond the obvious (“Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Sloop John B”), the very mature and uncanny cuts (“That’s Not Me” and “Caroline, No” and “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times”) make the record. The brightness and harmonies hide the shadows and weirdness (aren’t we glad Brian had this creative outlet?). Beyond the contrapuntal hymnal feel, there’s vulnerability and authenticity in the storytelling – the songs are about confused kids trying to find love, stay positive and be grateful (to put it in contemporary, self-carey terms). Sure, it’s over-indulgent at times, but that’s where the opulence and ethereality come from, so too the fucking Bach-esque haunting of the liltiest bits and highest glee-club registers (the vocals on “You Still Believe in Me” are a chorale, for christ’s sake). No way BB Today! Is a better record (as editors claim). That’s blasphemy, not even a quality troll because it’s so wrong (plus being indicative of dodgy taste). 4.8

Know it's a critic's favourite but it's damn good

Super enjoyed this. Used to listen to Beach Boys as a kid and I love listening to harmonies.

Excellent.

This was probably my most anticipated album when I began this project, so I'm stoked to have finally gotten it. It's such a innovative album with a fantastic mix of heartbreak and positivity, all wrapped up in the unique Beach Boys' sound. Will definitely have it on repeat for a while. 10/10

The melodies on this thing are amazing. Layers of sound. Harmonics. God only knows is obviously fantastic but all the songs except maybe John Sloop B hit. Love the melancholic mood that fills this album.

The best album of all time

After watching the movie Love and Mercy, I have full appreciation for this album.

‘I’m Waiting For the Day’ has a solid drum beat Now I want the vinyl of it The songs are all really good

Christ, I could sing most of this album and the harmony lines without even putting it on. I spent a lot of my time arguing that the Beach Boys were better than the Beatles, and this was very much the exhibit A of my argument. On here, it may just be true. Every track contains more emotion than the entirety of other classic albums, and it touches my actual soul when I hear it. Joy.

It’s tricky, because I can’t go to a Pre-Pet Sounds time and appreciate how important this album is. I love it, and I love the Beach Boys but I generally come away from listening to the full album slightly underwhelmed. In my opinion, there’s 4 or 5 great songs, but an equal amount of forgettable songs, which is kind of lame considering Wilson set out to make the first all killer no filler record. It’s an easy 5 stars, one of the best of all time, but it’s not quite as breathtakingly spectacular as the hype would lead us to believe.

There's a reason this album is as highly regarded as it is. Super well constructed and hugely influential.

Best Beach Boys album. A must have in your vinyl collection. Appreciate the master as it is much more enjoyable in stereo than mono. Brian Wilson Opus with out a doubt. The work that went into PET SOUNDS and amount of studio musicians performing makes this ear cotton candy. It also has the best collection songs of any of their albums. It definitely moves away from what made them popular with that surfer sound, but that needed to be done.

Combining Brian's drive to create something that would outdo Spector, and challenged by the recent works by the Beatles, he took the same approach to creating music as they did, get off the road and use the studio to create and explore. The resulting Pet Sounds is an album of sheer beauty. Every sound, every harmony, and every noise (bicycle bell or dog barking) matters and is as important to this piece of work, as are the range of musical styles. From the innocence of young love, Wouldn't it Be Nice" to the heartbreaking Caroline No this album represents a man at his musical peak and just like the Wrecking Crew were able to put down what Brian was hearing in his head the Beach Boys were able to put down the complex vocals harmonies coming from that same place. The songs came together beautifully. A pure pop symphony. Really hard to pick a favorite but I will go with; Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Caroline No, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. 5 out of 5.

Gorgeous production, impressive songwriting and incredible harmonies. A perfect record. Fav tracks: Don't Talk, Put Your Head on My Shoulders, Wouldn't It Be Nice, You Still Believe in Me, God Only Knows, Sloop John B

The yearning! The beauty! Sweeping, vulnerable, heartbreaking, and singularly brilliant at every turn, I will always love this record and find something new to appreciate about it every time I listen. The way the strings come in one minute into "Don't Talk". The bass switching to a single note for most of the last chorus of "Sloop John B". The subtle key changes throughout "God Only Knows". What I feel like sometimes gets lost in the grandeur of it all is how personal and individual this work of art is. And maybe that's why it's hard for me to feel like this record is overrated -- I feel like I connect with it in a manner that's difficult to describe. After all that's been said about this record, what more is there to say? Favourite songs: Caroline, No, Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Sloop John B, You Still Believe in Me, Let's Go Away for a While

Un de les primera clares obres mestres del pop. Incentivat pels Beatles, Brian Wilson decideix explorar les possibilitats del génere en una simfonia de melodies, sons diversos, explosió d'il.luminació i creativitat i un conjunt de cançons difícilment superable

The best album of 1966 and a contender for best album of the 60s outright. Brian Wilson took a break from touring after a panic attack and decided that he wanted to take the Beach Boys' sound in a more experimental and introspective direction. He built upon Phil Spector's 'wall of sound' with his own unique orchestrations and ended up with one of the lushest and best produced albums of all time. Here Wilson is at his creative apex both melodically and harmonically. The tone of the album is melancholic and full of longing. The melodies are acrobatic and delicate, and the harmonies are full of depth.

Nightmares are the best part of my day. Most Wednesdays I wake up screaming like a methed up marmot who's just stubbed its toe. I sound like Kerry Katona coughing up a parrot. Then there's usually a vacuum of deafening silence before my foreskin deflates and produces not only the most foul stench imaginable, but the sound of an injured ghost of a crocodile, trying to claw itself back into a different realm. Peter Pan, Peter Pan, Peter Pan.

Wouldn't it be nice? Brian Wilson’s evolutionary compositional masterpiece, eh? Painstakingly put together in an effort to outdo The Beatles, this album was certainly ahead of the curve in terms of production. Some of the lyrics are a bit shit, but I guess that's what you got at the time. Dennis Wilson should have hung out with Charles Manson a bit more for some darker themes.

Introduces young kids to a wide range of animals from eight different habitats or groups. Hear the sounds they make and learn a few fun facts about each animal. There are some memory-recall and musical-exploration games, as well as a collection of offscreen activities to do as a family.

I listened to this one recently, so I don't even need to listen to it again to know how great it is. Such a wonderful album! Nothing I say would do it justice.

I've Finished Typing Two Chapters On Pc, Ktebt 5 Saf7at Fy 3l Bouheli Mte3 Dostoevsky. Getting Better.

I've heard Pet Shop Boys before. It's difficult not to feel a warmth in your heart with most of their songs. It's really a soung that represents the turning of the 60's, mostly in America... A piece of musical history, in my opinion. - An issue I've been having with 1001 is that there are only English-speaking bands and singers. I didn't check for this info but it seems that they're mostly American as well... Anyway, it's been a fun experience so far!

A peerless 60s classic, full of sweeping harmonies, one of the finest pop records ever made…

5/5. God-tier

Top notch

A classic. So instrumental in changing rock music through the magic of production. Amazing.

Great album. First time playing all the way through. Perfect for a cold Winter work morning.

This is maybe the best pop album of all times. Compared to peak Beatles the songs have the same quality and complexity, but sound more effortless and natural. That may be due to the often childish lyrics of Brian Wilson. These (and the album cover) give the album a feeling of pure innocence.

Wonderful way to start.

One of the best albums of its era

Near perfect album.

I mean really
