Una maravilla!!

Ms. Joplin just couldn’t live long enough to see her second album released. Talk about a rise and crash! Well, what about this one? A lot of convincing covers and a couple originals, including the silly a cappella ditty, “Mercedes Benz”. I actually think she’s got the best “Me and Bobby McGee” out there, too. What haunts me about this album is that one of the tracks is an instrumental because Janis died before she could record the vocals. So they just kept it as-is, a testament to her untimely death.

Listened Before? N Smooth, soulful, and at times rambling. This is a pretty good record. It's a shame she got so heavily into drugs and passed away so early or she could have really honed herself into an amazing overall performer. I enjoyed this one, but the big hit is a cover, and it shows. It's head and shoulders above all the rest. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Me and Bobby McGee

Instant classic, great tunes

This is rock!! This is music!! Wow!! I had a fucking ball listening to this album. Janis Joplin the woman you are. This is music that makes you feel things. No bullshit, I feel a stir in my heart after listening to this album. Just electric. Wow. This shit right here, this means something to me man!!

Ooooh Janis is good! Not all the songs work for me, but love the blues and her voice hitting hard.

I see why Janis Joplin is highly regarded as a performer. There is a lot of raw humanity in these vocals. However, the 70s blues rock sound is very boring to me.

Joplin's unique voice really shines out. She sounds great despite the vocal imperfections.

Every song had a lot of feeling and movement to it. I found the song without lyrics a bit daunting having just recently learning why it has no lyrics. Made the second half of the album a bit eerie at times. Overall I loved it.

I have never been a huge fan of Joplin, but I tried to go into this album with an open mind. I liked it more than I expected to but still don't really care for her vocal style, which I know is the draw for a lot of people.

First song caught me off guard (positively), after that it's still alright

Janis is a top 5 female artist for me. As a kid Pearl and Cheap Trills were played often on my parents record player. On that old Sansui skipping tracks wasn't really a thing, but with Pearl you wouldn't want to; absolute perfection front to back. I know most of the tracks are covers, but it's like Jimi covering Dylan, sublime. Me and Bobby McGee may be the greatest song of all time. Rarely in this musical adventure have I liked an album more and more the longer I listened to it. At first I thought she was doing a poor, melded imitation of incredible black female artists who came before her. I overcame that feeling with the blues and country sounds were mixed in and it started to feel different. I really enjoyed the album.

Holy crap, what a performer. Certified legend status. It's a damn shame she died so young. I can only imagine how unbelievable she would have become given more time.

Hard to believe that Janis never got to hear how great this album is, or how much people loved it…

What timing! I literally just started to listen to this yesterday. I laughed at the Mercedes Benz song. Classic Me and Bobby McGee. My favorites upon first listen are Trust Me, Get It While You Can, Half Moon, And A Lonely Woman. I did not get to the bonus materials today.

Seems a short album, lots of classics. Good introduction to HER IMO.

Janis is instant nostalgia. Her tone is unparalleled. What a voice. What a soul. What a loss. I loved every song. My favourites were Cry Baby and Mercedes Benz. But Trust Me really struck a chord, too. God I loved this one.

An essential album with some of her classic songs. So much has been said about the all-too short, tragic life of Janis Joplin, but it's the music that sings loudly, as she is one of the most important female artists of her time. Her voice was amazing and her personality comes through even on her studio recordings. Such a shame she couldn't share her gift beyond 27.

Never been a big fan, but also never actively hated her music.

Let me start by saying my local classic rock station absolutely killed the majority of "classic" songs of a lot of bands, by playing the ad nauseum. I was convinced as a younger kid that Janis Joplin only had 2 songs, Me and Bobby McGee and Mercedes Benz. Well, this album surprised me. Still can't stand the 2 songs I mentioned, but I did enjoy many of the other songs. I used to say her voice annoyed me, but after listening to more of her work, I take that statement back. Her voice is what makes this album work. I also enjoyed the heavy dose of piano. I really enjoyed this album. Some of my favs include, Move Over, Cry Baby, My Baby, Trust me and Get it while you can. cringed when I saw this album, but happy I listened. I could see me throwing on some Joplin, in the right scenario, but I would skip 2 songs for sure. 3.5 for me. Call this a "surprise" album for me

3.5 It’s hard to be a music junkie and not know of Janis Joplin. She’s often cited as being one of the most important and influential figures in music and is famously part of the 27 club, leaving many to wonder what could have been. I guess I’d never actually (knowingly) heard a Janis Joplin song because this is way more rocking than I thought it would be. As usual I figured it would be the slow folksy side of the 60s but to my surprise it’s way closer to the rock n roll blues side of the 60s. Musically I’m reminded so much of Led Zeppelin. Despite showing its age a little and ultimately being nothing I’ve never heard before, I really enjoyed this. It’s well done classic rock and roll and I would probably buy on vinyl if I find it cheap enough.

2 Never been much of a Janis Joplin fan. I think some people have a problem with her voice, though honestly I don’t mind that as much as I just don’t find her music particularly interesting. It very much fits the time and place, but I would rather listen to other Summer of Love artists instead like Jimi Hendrix or Jefferson Airplane - though I’ll take this over Grateful Dead any day of the week. I was also surprised to learn the majority of the album consists of covers. Not that I think any less of the album because of it, but I guess I always thought of Joplin as more of a songwriter in my head. However, considering one of the original songs she did write for the album was Mercedes Benz, maybe it’s for the best. I can definitely see how this could be a vibe to hear live, but it doesn’t do much for me in album form. Favorite songs: Cry Baby, Move Over

Good album. I had never really listened to anything but the hits and Me and Bobby McGee never really did it for me. This was pretty good.

Janis Jopli's final statement is a rock and blues classic. I love the way it starts with hard charging Move Over. The rest of the album is a study in how to sing the blues in a rock context. Every collection of rock albums must include Pearl. 5 stars

Currently trying to clear my backlog of unrated albums, which meant forcing myself to listen to this rubbish. I already knew I disliked Janis Joplin's voice from being forced to listen to "Cheap Thrills" album. I think JPEG Mafia said it just right about Janis: sings like an old-time slave, and looks twice her age. I wouldn't mind if she sang well and looked twice her age though. But God yes, the singing is unbearably bad. "Buried alive in the blues" is the key track from this album for me because there is ZERO vocals on it. Some nice fuzzy, psychedelic guitar combined with funky organs. It's alright. I also learned that "Cry baby" is a Janis Joplin song, I'm used to hearing that one from adverts. It was familiar but not especially enjoyable. Overall, just glad I'm done with this. Bye forever Janis.

Discazo, no hay más. Las rolas famosas son rolones, y las que no son tan conocidas, la neta es que también son muy buenas. Me hace pensar a dónde hubiera llegado y cómo sería la historia de la música (especialmente para las mujeres) si ella no fuera del Club 27. 5 estrellas facilito.

Janis, obviously, is the difference here. She had complete mastery over her voice, technical and emotional, and she knew it. The claim is hay she was plagued with self-doubt for much of her short life. You wouldn’t know it to hear her sing. Somehow, she made it sound like her life depended upon it *and* that she had no more fucks to give.

OK, I hate Mercedes Benz - there I said it. But what a fantastic voice she had. A Woman Left Lonely is the best song here.

Fine. Some good funk. Probably not as groovy as big brother, although musicianship is better. This leaves it feeling a bit TOO polished at times. Strong heroin-cracking vocals. Is throwaway track Mercedes Benz the most popular (not best) from this album? Possibly her worst album (not counting 1st big brother, cause that is...something). Still good.

Classic album without a doubt, each song with that powerful and unique voice. Move Over, Half Moon, Me and Bobby Magee are favorites. Easy 5

Really enjoyable album from an absolute legend. Iconic voice.

In this case, dying young may not have been the savvy career move it so often is, but one has forgotten how great this posthumously related record was/is. One always thought Janis too much of a screamer but on this record, she stays just inside the line of control, while still unleashing ample passion. Plus, the band knows its role, keeping it tight and playing to set up and complement the vocals. A cohesive sound throughout adds to the experience, and every song holds up – all filler cuts should be as original and endearing (and silly) as "Oh Lord." "Bobby McGee" will live forever (and should). One's not sure he'd go as far as editors in ranking her with Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith, but those comps aren't way off and overall this is awfully good. Personal bonus points for being reminded of one's own long forgotten, college-era girlfriends who didn't necessarily turn one on to this record, but played it a lot (thinking that it equated to feminism). 4.5/5

I thought this was a bit...meh on first listen. Might give it another go tomorrow. Her voice was fantastic but I'm not mad about how she used it at times, some of the screeching was a bit too intense. Me and Bobby McGee is a fantastic song though!

fantastic album. I now realise how familiar I am with many of these tracks, without ever really having gone out of my way to listen to Janis Joplin. What is particularly impressive is the diversity of the music - blues yes, but also soul, gospel, rock, pop. Janis Joplin's voice is up to the challenge of adapting to these different styles - she is far more than just a belter of blues songs. Loses one star for Mercedes Benz, which I could quite happily never, ever hear again

I was expecting to only know "Me and Bobby McGee", but there were other familiar songs, too. "Move Over", "Cry Baby" and others are standouts. Much more rockin' than I had expected, frankly. The band is great!

Among all the late 60s bands and singers I listened (or found my interest in) to Janis Joplin the least. I think that it stems from the fact that Janis is not as famous nowadays as, for example, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, or even Carlos Santana (looking at Woodstock '69 of course). Well, in few words that might be a mistake. I have listened to Pearl and although I didn't really like the style of the music, being too 'bluesy' and not interesting, I can't deny that Janis Joplin had a beautiful and mesmerizing voice. She could have sing "Baby Shark" and make it a powerful anthem of hippies - freedom and love. The album inspired me to look into her history more, and although it's not so inspiring (more like tragic), her live recordings are even better. This might be the only time, where I am going to rate the album solely on the basis of great vocal, with music being just a distant afterthough. I will definitely listen to this album and any other recordings of Joplin, looks like I was really missing a lot.

For me, Joplin was a name of a troubled artist that was an unfortunate member of the 27 Club. Two songs I had previously been exposed to were Mercedes Benz and Cry Baby appear on this album. But damn, what a voice! Big show tunes with a great band. Move Over brings bluesy, high energy. A Woman Left Lonely shows a mellow vulnerability. Half Moon the swinging funk. Never was a Joplin fan. I can appreciate the talent and the legendary voice but I could never get into it. I'm very picky about 70s rock but will not hold that against her.

"Cry Baby" is played in "Look Who's Talking," one I my favorite movies that I grew up with. Also the rest of the album was just wonderful. All of the love.

Such outstanding music and, of course, the vocal performance by the inimitable Janis is just wonderful. She always draws me in. I do like her other albums, but this one I like in particular because things (the writing, arrangements, performances, recording, all of it) overall seem more clear and well put together. I don't mean that in an over-produced way; I genuinely like the way it all sounds here. I feel like it lets us (or at least me) hear much better just how incredible she is. Such superb songs on this amazing album. Rest in power, Janis. Shine On!

First listen. Awesome such a powerful and unique voice.

Best Song: Cry Baby. A nice midpoint between rock and an almost gospel quality. Worst Song: Get it While You Can. A bit too sleepy of a gospel track. Overall: Janis Joplin fits into that category of artist that I'd heard about far more than I'd actually heard their music. I can understand the hype, as she's got such a powerful voice (which she pushes to the limit in nearly every song). Still, the songs begin to blur together somewhat, favouring more formulaic tracks, rather than letting Joplin rip loose and be weird.

Joplin is in top form. Sadly her band can’t keep up with her energy for every song and felt overshadowed during the first two songs. Still a 5 star album.

With Janis' passing prior to the album's release, it felt as though the continuing descent of the Sixties Aquarian Dream had revised its apogee (Jimi had passed not long before her). Which is a shame because, with Pearl, Janis sounded ready to break through and plant herself throughly into the mainstream (if she wasn't already). We would never have a chance to live out what she would have done or would have been like had she continued to live on but this is a pretty good representation of what could have been. Favorites: Move Over, Cry Baby, A Woman Left Lonely, Buried Alive in the Blues, Me & Bobby McGee, Mercedes Benz, Get It While You Can.

Cry and Bobby macgee and Mercedes Benz I mean, there is a reason this is classic. Not my preferred music, but superb artistry.

This was a really exciting inclusion. I spent half my time blown away, half my time lamenting JJs early exit and half my time wanting more than was there. Now that is a lot of halves.

There's few voices as recognisable, or as quick to induce a spot of melancholy for what was lost. Especially in this week when we've lost a few iconic female singers. Some good solid blues with some raucousness.

Love a bit of JJ.

The final four songs alone make this a classic. Hell, what she does with Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" is enough to earn a place in history. Do we overrate Janis because she was one of the original members of the 27 Club? I don't know, man. Few songs have the magic "Me and Bobby McGee" does. Few singers could record an accapella song, title it "Mercedes Benz" and compel their record label to release it as a single. It's hard to determine where Janis Joplin's career would have gone if she didn't rely on the needle so much. This woman wasn't designed to live long - she was living too hard for that to be even a remote possibility. But if I had to endure the bullying she did from the likes of future Dallas Cowboy coach Jimmy Johnson for most of her youth, I'd probably drown myself in a bottle of Southern Comfort and shoot heroin, too.

Ooh. Power. Not usually into blues, but this is amazing. So sad that she was nit alive to see it released. I always though janis joplin was a folk singer songwriter. I have now been corrected.

This album made me sad. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because it really is a shame that Joplin died so young. The enthusiasm and soul that she can sing on a track is absolutely unparalleled. I don’t think there was a single song I didn’t enjoy. The opening track “Move Over” is a perfect introduction to the album. The vocals missing “Buried alive in the Blues” is haunting. Then “Me and Bobby McGee” plays like a Dolly Parton song and I love country shift and the lyrics freedoms just another word for nothing left to loose. 5/5

Very good emotional blues. Janis Joplin's voice is legendary for a reason. Some of the performances are chilling.

Janis’ voice still grates too hard for me, but I like this better than her other album we covered. I think her band here is tighter and she has stronger songs. “Me and Bobby McGee” is an all-timer. It’s a solid album, but I just have little use for her talents. C

I had never gotten around to this before, but listening now, this is great. Janis has some wild rock and roll moments juxtaposed against some really nice laid back gospel and R&B moments.

Enjoyable vocals, a nice blend of some songs I’d heard and new, and a very complete album. One of the better albums I’ve heard through this challenge

Really solid album. I’d never listened to it before I bought it on vinyl in 2021. It’s not really what I’d listen to normally with a heavier country feel, but can’t deny her amazing vocals and the general musicality displayed here.

What a powerful and legendary voice! Proved that woman can rock and make classics for all pub bands to play for the rest of time. Great run time, sounds great, the grooves are amazing.

This album doesn't reinvent the wheel nor is it full of mega hits but the sheer raw power and emotion in Janis' voice make this album so unique and deserve the 4 stars

Never heard of this album before but I really enjoyed it. Great natural vocals and loved the rock/blues band. Some great blues guitar riffs and funky skunky basslines. Cry baby and Me and Bobby McGee were the highlights. 4.3/5 would 100% listen again.

Janis Joplin was a great singer. In this album his better songs are "Move Over", "Cry Baby", "Half Moon", "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Trust Me". In every album she mades there's a hits.

I'm sure that from a technical standpoint Janis was a talented singer. I simply cannot endure her voice much beyond the 30 second mark. It is absolutely grating to me. Mercedes Benz is one of the worst songs ever recorded. It's a song that makes me envy the deaf. I will never understand the appeal.

She has a great voice, and its a very enjoyable set of songs. I think I prefer this to the big brother album as it has a better range of vocal styles. The background to this album is pretty sad though

An all-time favorite. Tragedy that we lost her so young.

Raw and authentic as Janis always was, but more polished and tighter than other of her records (especially those with overly loud Big Brother). Lots of winners here, including "Bobby McGee," a classic among classics, and really no losers on either side. There's also a touch of sweetness to these blues that belies the early death.

Never been a huge fan of Janis Joplin but the Full Tilt Boogie Band are pretty cool. This was much funkier than I was expecting.

Ah Janis, 3rd member of the 27 Club, whats not to love about the co-star of Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel" Her perfectly raw blues voice was a gem of the 60's and an inspiration to so many. Favourite tracks on Pearl have got to be "Mercedes Benz" "Me And Bobby McGee" and "Get It While You Can" A great album which is rightfully on the list imho

Amazing, startling, arresting, wonderful, complex, emotional, and brilliant.

Whoah. Hard to say much about this. It's true that every song is like an emotional rollercoaster and you've got to be in the mood for the ride. Her passion, energy and voice are legendary but it really feels dated. Not sure why.

I actually can't stand Joplin's voice and was not a fan of this album or her music. She sings like an old lady. 5/10.

Yeah. Having this after led Zeppelin makes me keen to hear something more complex than old blues rock. Janis can sing though.

It's a great, physical Roch album. Joplin's voice is incredible, a one off, and the songs fit her very well. Cry Baby and Mercedes Benz are the obvious classics, but everything on there has a bit of that classic/psych/garage rock feel that feels perfectly East US at a particular point. The only disappointing bits are where she takes a back seat and allows a bit of excess noodling from the band, which sucks some of the pace and energy out of the affair.

I really go back and forth on this one. There are a few songs on here that work for me - Cry Baby, Me and Bobby McGee, Mercedes Benz. And she's got the personality that's pretty unmistakable. She's sort of the other side of the coin with Joe Cocker, maybe? I like all the energy. Some of the songs are indelible. But it's also not something I really reach for. There's something that seems a little put on or something that I don't love.

The strange thing here is that Janis Joplin's reputation is often staked on her R&B prowess, but I think her best performances here are on 'Me and Bobby McGee' (country) and 'Trust Me' (soul ballad). When the band gets hot she pushes herself to match the energy and I'm not sure I like the results quite as much. Still, this is a great collection - production is crisp, the execution is on point and I even like the instrumental track. Sad that this was Joplin's final testament, as there are hints as to what could have been.

I grew up with my parents listening to that album. It's great!

Love this. Have always known a few of the songs, but thisnis the first time i have listened to a JJ album right through. Cool music and suits many different moods.

Great album- Me and Bobby McGee is a classic. I don't think I'd heard any of the other songs before, but they're also very good. Joplin's voice is great, and the backing tracks are all tight throughout. I'll be putting Me and Bobby McGee and Piece of My Heart on some of my playlists now.

Love how versatile her voice is - that raspy edge giving songs extra power in their emotion when she powers it up, but then evoking something almost forlorn when the instrumentals soften and the music slows (heard especially in the all-vocal "Mercedes Benz" and the gentle introduction to "Trust Me"). just a powerful range shown here. I think I'll need to do another listen to really distinguish between songs, but a very enjoyable first listen-through.

Last Joplin unfinished work.

Full of energized instrumental performances that are steeped in blues rock, with plenty of moving parts and intrusions from new timbres. All of this is of course overshadowed by Janis' amazingly distinctive voice and her scorching performance on this record. While she's obviously a talented singer when it comes to hitting notices and doing quick runs, the beauty of her vocals are the rugged imperfections imperfections that fit middle america blues rock like a glove.

OK, this is one you will always see in a bargain bin at a record store. Can’t say I’ve listened to it in its entirety, I’m wondering what big Janis hits are on this one. Will definitely listen to it and report back! EDIT: pretty good record, has a lot of Janis’s big hits. But it’s that kind of standard late 60s early 70s blues rock stuff a la Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, etc. miss Joplin had a huge voice and even bigger spirit and is probably the first huge female rockstar.

This really felt like a personal experience with Janis Joplin. This is a voice that's raw and real. I listened over and over today.

I was already very familiar with about half of this album and the rest was filled with newly discovered gems.

Its only flaw is that it is too short. Power, vocal agility, and so fucking much heart.

I probably have heard this album in my youth. My dad was a big fan of Janis Joplin. I was probably a little young for this music, though, and I haven’t really listened to any Janis Joplin other than the occasional song heard on the radio. As I grew older I kept thinking I should change that but never got around to it. I’m very excited to listen to it now. This album is incredible. “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Mercedes Benz” I knew well going in to this, but those incredible songs barely scratch the surface of this album’s contents. From start to finish it is hard to fathom how a person can put so much into these songs. They are powerful. They are emotional, they are incredible, they are fun! I teared up on several occasions. How could you not during “A Woman Left Lonely?” There is incredible exuberance captured on this album and I can’t help but feel happy hearing songs like “Half Moon.” But could there be a sadder moment than “Buried Alive in the Blues?” Such a funky song. Such a sad song. Maybe the bitterest sweet as I listened and never heard her voice as she died before it was completed. I was quite glad that the writer of the song turned down the request to have him perform the vocals on it in tribute. The song sits in the middle of the album in sad tribute to the loss of an incredible performer. How about that album cover?! That smile. That drink. Those feathers. Such great spirit captured by that image. Fortunately we have Janis Joplin’s incredible music to give us a little of that today.

There is no doubting Janis Joplin's vocal talents but I feel it was a shame she never got the time to write more of her own songs. For this album to have been released a few months after her death containing the song Mercedes Benz which she only recorded 3 days prior to her death is nothing short of a travisty. I have watched a few documentaries about her short life and I do feel this album could have been somewhat better but for her untimely death. She certainly was a force of nature and her vocal range was astounding. I enjoyed this album from an historic experience. What a chanter!

Hit or miss. Mercedes Benz was a real throwaway track.

This is the Janis that I came to know and appreciate, not as sloppy as her earlier music. Some people prefer her more unrestrained singing but this album shows how Janis grew into an artist that had much more control over her voice (making it much more impactful), style, and output, much more refined. It was still not my favorite music then, or now, but it pulled me in enough to enjoy her work on Pearl. The band is great and production is good. Most of the songs are solid ("Move Over", "Cry Baby") with favorites being "Me & Bobby McGee", "Trust Me" and I can't resist "Mercedes Benz" having hear it so frequently on radio during that time. 3 Stars

Joplin's soulful vocal performance on Pearl is undeniable. The songwriting is pretty average early 70s blues, but Joplin and her band elevate it to something that can really connect you to how she's feeling. Also, there aren't any extended tracks on this album, so Pearl never overstays its welcome. Fav Tracks: A Woman Left Lonely, Trust Me and Cry Baby

Wow, this is so much better than Cheap Thrills! It's like night and day for me. Still not my favourite style, but there's much more to appreciate here. The band is super tight, the production is really crisp, the songwriting is really solid, and there's nary an extended blues jam in sight. And how about that runtime? A lean 33 minutes with a lot of variety in store. Pearl feels like a really well-crafted document of Joplin's appeal. It's so much more mature, unique, and self-assured. Given this was her last album, it really makes me wonder where she would have gone from here. Favourite tracks: Trust Me, Cry Baby, Me and Bobby McGee

Grating doesn't begin to describe it, this voice could shred rocks. I admire the vibe and feeling, but still feels a little like Amy Winehouse or another soul music recycler, a bit hallow like why are you so upset again?

I have never really listened to a Janis Joplin album before, strangely enough. I knew some of the 'hits,' but nothing really more than that. I now know I was missing out. This rocks!

A candidate for the greatest singer of the early 70s. This is her most polished album, full of instant hits that it's a crime only two of them are modern radio staples. It's not just her powerful voice, full of raunch and passion, but the full bluesy instrumentation that energizes every line she puts in. The fast-pace ensures there's always something happening in these songs. I'm really glad "Buried Alive in the Blues" exists to back up my claim that it's not just Joplin that makes this album amazing, but it's when they combine forces when they become something else entirely. I liked how the beginning of that track sounded like the start of a 70s sitcom intro. I'll for sure be coming back to this album, probably as much as Carole King's Tapestry.

Very bluesy and way better than expected. I was only mildly familiar with Janis Joplin’s most popular hits, so this was a pleasant surprise. I’ll add this to my rotation.

Pretty good! Certainly glad I listened to it. I'll probably go back to at least a couple of the songs at some point. "Half Moon"" was my favorite of the tracks. I also really liked Janis Joplin's voice, though I would understand if somebody else told me that they didn't.

PEARL A beautiful, precious, little gem from the sea (where Janis Joplin - oh! such a powerful voice! - rests now). I don't even know who Janis Joplin is, but this posthumous album blew my mind. Just a standard soul album, but with a great band and a passionate voice. The Full Tilt Boogie Band's performance slaps. Setting aside the haunting context of "Buried Alive in the Blues" (what an ironic title), the band's bluesy beats here are irresistibly moving, not undermining the energy of the rest of the album. Her voice is of course, incredible. This album is a great showcase of her voice's vigor (perhaps not, but the empty space in "Buried Alive in the Blues" might give us an idea of what more she could possibly achieve). It's a lasting final statement. It's possibly one of the best soul albums of all time. It's a pearl.

Can't help but thinking when Leonard Cohen got the blowjob and how it was to write such a famous song about it.

I liked this one a lot more than I expected to again. The beginning was a little slow and I wasn't sure about it, but the background piano in Half Moon and Buried Alive in the Blues was really cool. Blues scales in general sound really good if they're done right, and this was definitely done right. Honestly I'd give all 3 albums so far a 3.5/5, which might be saying something about me? Idk. I gave both of them a 4, so I guess I'm rounding up

Favorites: Cry Baby, Move Over Pretty standard stuff in here. Janis Joplin was and still remains an big figure of the 1970s. Most of the songs in this album convey that very well. Lots of 70s sound. I don't know, there's really not much to say. Nothing really stood out to me, but I didn't dislike it.

Listen to like half of it, not bad but very much not my thing.

The songs were all very similar, there was some nice guitar, but the album was forgettable. The one song that was just her singing was stupid and another one of her songs she sounded like she just finished smoking. Not a fan.

One of the voices of the 60's - instantly recognisable and some of the best known songs of the era. Not sure how well it's aged, but certainly worthy of inclusion.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I don't like this. She's okay, but not much more than that and this has the twangy 70s sound I dislike more the more often I hear it.

Janis is a tiger shooting firecrackers. What an excellent, punchy, and fiery set of songs.

Janis is so special in personality and as a vocal presence. The music actually dragged this album down a bit.

It was a good album. I still really dislike the Mercedes Benz song.
