Reviews (page 8 of 13)

It's okay, not my cup of tea. I did like some of the lyrics though.

Nu metal? Um no

Couple bangers but rest is tough to get through

I heard of this band for years and years but never heard the music. No idea why- I just haven't. Today that changed. I really liked parts of it, the vocals were OK- I liked the music better. I mean nothing bad about the vocals, but when the vocals get too ballad-y (like with Slipknot) I like it less and wish the vocals were always hard not that I don't like ballads (I love them) but like with Slipknot when the music is hyper and violent I feel hyper and violent but then the soft vocals come in & it messes up my I want to break stuff mood LOL and it makes me feel like I'm going crazy. I flat out can't tell how much I like Hybrid Theory with one listen so 3/5 for now but that will likely change when I listen to it more this weekend. I did like the rapping. Is it the same person that does the non-rap vocals? A lot of it grabbed me. Nu Metal is not my favorite music, but I do like Slipknot (so far, the best nu metal that I have ever heard) and Linkin Park might be in that same league of good- that's the feeling I got on my first listen. That's all I know.

Surprised by my surprise of how hard this goes. More NIN and limp bizkit than i ever knew

I don't really know how to rate this album since I'm just a gen z girl in her late 20's with most of my mental problems solved, so listening to this made me feel very alienated, I know it's an iconic album and I wouldn't say it's bad I just don't know at what point in my life I could listen to it and enjoy it, I felt a big generation gap and while listening to it I couldn't stop imagining naruto fights aggggg

going good with this opening riff definitely more my speed than slayer. still not my favorite genre but ya know. lotta record scratching going on here in the end--i like that opening piano. i think i recognize this song? i dunno it feels like a classic. a place for my head--oh my these are quite the lyrics this exudes angst in the way that can only come out of the '90s (i know i know... not the '90s. still pre-2001 tho...). cure for the itch--weird ok that was it. i don't know, 3.x/5. probably 3/5. looking forward to not listening to any angsty albums over the weekend.

Although this album isn't right in my wheelhouse, I never really gave it fair shot. After a drive listening I do understand why an angsty younger listener would find this music lethargic. Chester definitely writes in away that makes you feel like your not alone in these thoughts. The singles are still the best songs in my opinion, In the End does hit hard when you are struggling.

Overall Rating - 2.58/5 (5.17/10). Just not my taste. Screaming, distortion to the point of unpleasantness, just not what I enjoy.

I thought they were such a Korn wannabe when they came out as a teen. Good stuff

a bit anxsty but some great through back tunes that go hard

Some iconic songs that defined an era and a genre. Unique and fresh use of metal, math rock, rap, r'n'b. Some choruses have amazing melodies and vocals, but a lot of verses fall flat and rap parts almost become cringey. All songs sound very similar too, no real dynamic shift.

pretty gooddd i used to be obsessed with in the end when i was young because the older girls in my dance company did a cool dance to it

Just listened to this for the first time last month! Liked every song but can only listen under extremely specific circumstances. Otherwise it’s awful.

Sue me I really liked it. In the end is so iconic but also loved many of the other songs. I don’t usually listen to this type of music but maybe I should….

Was never a huge Linkin Park fan, but this is a fun album with some great hits that remind of high school. Definitely have their own sound and one hell of voice in Chester Bennington. Highlights: "One Step Closer" and "In The End"

This album gave me a glimpse inside the mind of a nicotine and energy drink addicted 40 something person. This person probably has at least 1 obnoxious vehicle and 1 shiny silkscreened t-shirt.

Buenos riffs y clásicos como In the end. Me resultó bastante repetitivo por momentos. La mezcla del rap siento que no se logra tan bien como otras bandas como RATM. Pero igual está bueno.

THEE millennial gateway album for any alternative taste. An absolutely crucial time capsule in sonic form. A foreshadowing of culture to come birthed from the last breath if the 90s. A classic. Unfortunately, after nostalgia subsides, the album doesn't really set itself apart from the raw feel of what came before, and falls short of improvements made after. A 3/5 today, a 100/5 when I was 11.

Confusing mix of genre, I enjoyed it in parts and not so much in other parts.

Linkin Park's music has never really been my thing. I know their hits and I know that their fans really love them. Just never really got into them myself. I thought I knew what to expect going into this, and it delivered exactly what I expected. What I didn't expect is that I would enjoy it as much as I did. A lot of it sounded pretty similar, and the rappy ad lib vocal parts are pretty corny. But overall I found myself enjoying it more than not.

Ehhh…. Nu Metal….. in my bottom three genres. LP is prob the best at this emo-rap-electronica-rock thing, but I’ll just listen to My Chemical Romance when I have any kind of hankering for this sorta thing (and blessedly replace the rap with more punk influence).

I was a teenage girl, a rather angry girl at age 14 when this album came out, so I got into it quickly and bought it on cassette (CDs were pretty expensive here in Eastern Europe). I wasn't really into nu metal and rap, but this album had the good balance of rock, rap, teenage angst and catchy tunes. It's very much a product of its time, but to be fair, it's a consistent album and it still holds up quite well despite of the fact that it's corny. It was nice to revisit it again after more than 20 years. It's not the kind of music I listen to nowadays, but I guess a 3 star is worthy considering everything.

Outside of the hits this was pretty mid

I get why it’s so popular but it was just annoying at times

The bangers still bang, the rest is kind of grating.

Never really a Linkin Park fan, but it's still pretty good.

couldn’t finish

This sounds like a perfect album for moments such as: getting cut from the JV lacrosse album; getting grounded for being caught dry-humping; losing your Title IX hearing; and other challenging events that thankfully have never happened to me, particularly not since 2000 when this was released. The rapping is all real stupid. But I admit the guitars are pretty cool and being 23 when this came out didn't help its cause at all.

This album to me is like peak junk food. I really like the way they use their voices; it reminds me of Pierce the Veil, except with less screeching. Which should be a good thing, but it also connects with me less than them. I don't mind listening to this album, and I could see it growing to a four over time, but it's not there right now.

Very nostalgic. I think it was thanksgiving my friend burned this for me. My super conservative cousin was mortified by this.

Brings back so many memories. Made me listing to Collision Course where they mash up their songs with Jay-Z. Elite.

It would’ve gone hard in middle school. Most of the songs sounded too similar to me, to the point that I thought it had repeated. Love the classics, but it is definitely “of its time,” although I acknowledge I would have probably enjoyed it more at a different time in my life.

Blir väl lite tröttsamt i längden, but in the end it doesn't really matter.

This album had a couple of songs that I recognized and liked. Other songs seemed to be similar but did not necessarily like.

Like Meterora better

1.crawling 2. by myself 3. in the end

Scratches do nothing for me. I like the band better without them for sure. Chester's shouty vocals have never been my thing. He sounds great when he croons but the throaty yelling gets very old for me. Shinoda's flows are mostly very dated and he interrupts the experience quite a bit. That being said, there are some really great songs here and I understand why it made the list.

some killer riffs and good drums but nothing like ridiculously good and I found the lyrics really quite cringe and over the top low-key just tasteful coworker music

I surprisingly didn’t hate this at all, it’s cool but I don’t see myself listening to the whole album again. I liked a couple of songs and the overall vibe tho.

3.5⭐️/5 01.08.2026

Unfortunately it was just a phase

Undeniably influential. Many songs I enjoyed, some felt a little repetitive and too grungy for me.

no one does it like linkin park did, true early 2000’s stuff right here

What an energetic album. Would be more resonant if I was a different person. Definitely homogenous.

i cant imagine listening to ts when im having a migrane or when im overstimulated. lyrics feel a little trashy. i dont undrestand the little rapping parts. but. listenable on a good day. meh

Never really got into linkin park after my teenage angst days. But I alway preferred Minutes to Midnight. This album has surprised me a little, the lyrics are a bit corny but the album itself has held up really well musically. Lots of big hooks and great riffs. Jack 3/5 Ale 3/5

Pretty good, but way too over-played.

I get why Linkin Park was so popular but it’s corny and repetitive. There’s nothing wrong with being corny and repetitive though.

Not bad if a little overwrought

heard the majority of this album as a teen, probably hundreds of times. been a while tho Papercut - 3/5 One Step Closer - 5/5 With You - 4/5 Points of Authority - 5/5 Crawling - 5/5 Runaway - 2/5 By Myself - 1/5 In the End - 5/5 A Place for My Head - 4/5 Forgotten - 4/5 Cure for the Itch - 1/5 Pushing Me Away - 4/5 Average score: 3.6/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ doesn't hit the same as it did when i was younger, obviously. but most of the tracks were still somewhat enjoyable. some of the tracks i hadn't heard before were a bit too angsty and juvenile, even for the taste of my younger self

all the songs sound the same

A few very recognizable songs in this album. Not a Linkin Park fan, but I can see why they were popular. I didn't hate it. 3/5

niet per se mijn vibe

it’s a good album, not my personal taste

tbh rlly liked rock

They must hate how often they get confused for Limp Bizkit.

This. Album. It’s filling me like equal parts joy and cringe. I’m glad it was on this list, I don’t think I could listen to it all the way through off my own bat - they were really feeling some ways about some stuff

3 stars for nostalgia. It's not that amazing besides that.

Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park (200) issue - Spotify 1) Papercut - 3 2) One Step Closer - 3 3) With You - 2.5 4) Points of Authoirity - 3 5) Crawling - 4 6) Runaway -3 7) By Myself - 3 8) In the End - 4 9)A Place for My Head - 3 10) Forgotten - 3 11) Cure for the Itch - 3.5 12) Pushing Me Away -3

It fucks but repetitive

I can see why millions of teenagers adore this. But to my old ears it sounds incredibly shallow. Childish lyrics about misery and escape. Guitars not doing anything interesting. Average rap but quite strong yelling. A couple of bangers but otherwise left me cold

I enjoyed this more than I expected.

Nice to have a place to put some of the anger I’ve been feeling about the ~state of the world~

bumpb ump bump bump iconic shit wel vaak the same shit maar yeah cool ig

Who doesn't like a bit of Nu Metal?

I think it is surprisingly musical, but too screamy for me. When I wore a younger man's clothes I dug it but now that I'm old it is a bit much.

Vocals are fire, instrumentation is epic, the rapping is bad

I'm finding it hard to rate this album because it's contemporary to my teenage years. I didn't listen to Linkin Park other than when their single came on the radio, but all the same, it's been part of the musical soundtrack of my life. Listening now, it's reminding me of what a great record this is for a teenager who's struggling with something. And as an adult who's had their downs, 'In the End' still hits. I appreciate the musicianship and genre mixing. A great album for processing bullshit.

There was a track that Deftones were essentially forced to put on many of the White Pony album releases. It's a track called Back to School (Mini Maggit). It's this Y2K radio friendly rap-rock track that's just bad. It truly has no business on the album, or even in their catalog. But that's beside the point. While this album isn't nearly as bad as that track, it feels like those same A&R reps worked with Linkin Park to produce their sound. It's Y2K overproduced radio rock. If this were a completely fresh listen having never heard tracks from this album before, I'd be more inclined to at least give it another shot or two. But the singles from this album were so thoroughly shoved down our throats in the early 00s, I can't give it a fair shake. Whether it's influenced or interpolated from Limp Bizkit, 311, and Korn, it feels rather unoriginal. The album definitely reflected the sound it was going for pretty convincingly, but not enticing to my taste.

I’m sorry, Linkin.

Would be the hardest banger if i was 13

It's okay but not my type of music, there was a couple good songs but it's just not really for me

I know of Linkin Park’s hits, but am not super familiar with most of their work. This album definitely had moments that were super cool. I think this album really shines when Chester sings with his actual voice and the band avoids the disc scratching and production effects. The rap sections just seem super dated and detract from the record. I’m interested in listening to subsequent albums. I think a more mature and refined version of this would fit my preferences better. 3.75/5.

A time capsule album for me. Came out when I'd come out of a bad relationship and was living on my own for the first time in awhile. At the time, it was an excellent anesthetic -- just angst over some crunchy hooks and samples that went down easy. Reliving this album 25 years later -- and ooh boy -- it really doesn't hold up well. Lyrics that once sounded heartfelt and painful are pretty damned inane in the harsh light of experience. Couldn't get past it this time around. Fun to remember the days of blasting down the highway screaming along with Chester and Shinoda -- but now I'm just too old for that shit.

This album makes me think of LAN parties circa Y2K. Some of it is catchy, but its heaviness doesn’t quite align with what I prefer.

Good to listen to more than just singles

I have never really sat down and listened to Linkin Park, and while many of the songs on this album are familiar to me, it wasn't a period in my life where I was engaging much with top 20 stuff so, while I certainly know who they are, I can't say I had much of an opinion on Linkin Park so was excited to listen to this. It is a lot more pop than I was expecting, I think I lump them into the nu-metal group with Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock, and while they share some stylistic elements, Linkin Park is far more polished and pop forward than either of those acts. I enjoyed the music generally, and like the electronica elements a lot, but the level of sugar-y pop production and song structure just feels so incongruous with the lyrical content (which is sometimes cringy levels of juvenile) like a depressed teenager has been forced to attend a very upbeat dance party. So, yeah, it was much more musically interesting than I expected, but still probably not really for me. Love the cover though, it's a 4/5.

Reviews are definitely polarizing and I find myself somewhere in between. I remember listening to a friend's copy on repeat on the way to a soccer tournament shortly after it came out. At the time, it would have been a 5. As a grew up and matured, I definitely scoffed at this band and album and probably would have given it a 1. Revisiting it now 20 years later, I appreciate some tracks and the nostalgia it brings back for a time period now lost. Not all are hits, but I'll definitely keep a few of these songs in my library. Rounding up to 3.

This brings me back to high school

Not really my cup of tea - could see why others might love it thiugh

I tried so hard

Few bangers

Listening to this album made me feel like a 14 year old boy. I enjoyed yelling along to In The End, but the rest of it all sounded pretty similar to me.

When I was 14 or 15 I was considering buying this album on CD. My friend Ben told me that I shouldn't because it was "rich white boys singing about how angry they are that their parents wouldn't give them enough pocket money." So I didn't. I was expecting to hate this, but I didn't. Not a great album by any means, but some fun songs.

Day687 - even though i never liked it i know linkin park and especially this album mean a lot to people.

that was the first time i ever listened to linkin park and no offence to nick but it needs to grow on me a lil bit

Supposedly great... not my thang.

Not my style of choice by any means, but to me this album is the definitive realization of what the nu metal/rap rock genres could be. Chester's voice is a beautiful buzzsaw.

Massif

The reviews for this are educational to someone like me who studiously ignored nu metal. These guys appear to be the uncool band on the scene to many. I still can't tell the difference. I don't feel the need to immerse myself in the genre to 'get it'. It is kind of bland and repetitive but not in a way that upsets me. Maybe if I cared about numetal it would.

I wanted to hate this more than I do. Definitely not going to keep listening, but I can't bring myself to hate it. It's competently done. The mixing is surprisingly energetic and organic after being so used to mainstream music being pitch-corrected and quantized to death. I can very easily see why this was so popular and influential. But in the end... It's kinda schlocky and trite white middle-class rebellion.

i listened to half of it and got the gist, it's not my kind of music but i thought it was catchier than the other metal we've heard actually. more commercial/poppy i think.

I bought the album when it came out. Back then, rap-rock and nu metal, bands like Korn or Limp Bizkit, were already kind of fading, and I still don’t get how Linkin Park became that popular (and still are today). Listening again now, I realize how badly their music aged compared to older records in the same genre. There are a few good tracks, sure, but the whole thing is so smooth and popified that my early excitement faded pretty fast. These days, and even though this album has its moments, I can barely listen to it anymore. White Pony, which came out the same year, is way better and way more mature.

Nu-metal’s suburban angst finally found its honor-roll poster boys in Linkin Park, a band that weaponizes vulnerability as much as distortion. Hybrid Theory is all twitchy guitars and hip-hop cadence, the kind of catharsis tailor-made for kids who feel too soft for Korn but too wound-up for Matchbox Twenty. The rap-rock back-and-forth doesn’t always elevate above its influences—think Limp Bizkit without misogyny or Rage Against the Machine without a manifesto—but the band’s melodic instincts are sharper than most of their peers. “Runaway” smuggles actual hooks beneath the pummeling, and “In the End” rides that now-iconic piano line while Chester Bennington proves he can flat-out sing when he’s not venting demons at full volume. Even the more derivative cuts like “Forgotten” turn emo at the chorus, revealing a band caught between self-loathing and sincerity. It doesn’t break the mold, but it certainly nails the mood.

Nostalgia middle school vibes but too angsty

Like this more than I thought I would.

I know I’m not entirely motivated by nostalgia. Despite this being the undisputed soundtrack of my early teens, I can acknowledge this album is pretty cheesy. The production is great, though.

Best Track - "In The End"

Never really got into the whole nu metal/rap metal scene. Linkin Park are probably one of the better bands in that style along with Korn. It’s a solid album and they're a decent band, just whenever I here 'nu metal' i struggle to separate it from absolute fucking dogshit like Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit. Its just not really my bag. In the End is a banger to be fair.

Call of Duty montage music

Good. I'm not certain I could give an American band of this genre more than a 3 but this is as good as that music gets

If only they would have designed less rhymes…

Decent. I wouldn’t own it but in the right situation, it’s a fun listen.

This rapping is so bad. Chester has skills though.

Never really been my kind of thing but it’s got a lot going for it.

Sigh. Objectively, this is over-produced pop. Really, really good over-produced pop. It belongs on the list. It is the best example of rap-rock pop which was huge in the early 00's and influential on today's artists (whether those artists are respectable or not). I'm probably giving a full star because my son loves it. Influence 4. Quality 2. Hits 4. I won't complain when it comes on, but I'm not seeking it out 2.

The sound of teenage rebellion in 2000. So many bands sounded like this in the very late nineties and early 2000s. I think Linkin Park were one of the better ones, and this album was everywhere. However, it's not great. It's relentless noise, but it works sometimes. In The End and Crawling let up on the screaming noise, and I don’t mind the almost flamenco guitar intro for A Place For My Head. It gets a better towards the end, but it’s not a fantastic specimen of sound. It is fairly short though and that works in its favour for me.

I love linking but this feels more like a hit collection than an album, I love it though

Not my style usually but interesting and “In the End” was great

I like the music but can do without the screaming.

I don't have a lot of nostalgia for Linkin Park personally (aside from a few songs), but there's no denying their place on this list. Honestly should not have dropped them from the list from latest edition (or preferably, in my opinion, swapped for Meteora). That said, this is a solid debut. A little derivative of the other bands in the nu-metal scene at the time (especially Chester really channeling Fred Durst in certain songs, but this is a much stronger music than Limp Bizkit) And obviously there are the standouts like Crawling, Points of Authority, In the End, and One Step Closer. Solid debut for a band who will eventually find their voice and release more interesting stuff later on (as early as their follow up, Meteora).

This was a refreshing blast from the past.

A couple of hits I remembered a felt like a warm hug from my tortured middle school self. But overall the majority of the songs sound pretty similar and the album eventually starts to feel pretty repetitive.

dated men speciellt när det kom

Couple of good songs, but not my style generally. I never really enjoyed the lead singer's style.

There are a few solid tracks here, but overall, it’s never really clicked for me. It’s emo-metal, polished, angsty, and trying a little too hard to sound deeper than it really is.

3 Stars (8/15)

I was too alternative and cook for Linkin Park in my youth when they were at their height, but this wasn't too bad at all. Teenage me was wrong.

Couple good songs and some nostalgia but most of the album was forgettable.

Hard to judge objectively, loved the album as a middle schooler but Linkin Park has become kind of a punchline over the years. That said, the songs are well written and catchy, the album itself feels well produced, and this was definitely new ground in 2000. I think it's an honest 3 stars.

Another band i dismissed in their day…but Linkin Park fucks. They are a good band. Is it a little repetitive and/or corny at times? Sure, but also they were huge for a reason and perfected the nu metal/rap rock vibe. Way better sounds/songs/musicianship than peers like Limp Bizkit…A perfect crossroads of music to listen to you before your lacrosse game and music to listen to when you think about how much you hate the kids on the lacrosse team. I listened at the gym and enjoyed every minute in that environment.

The Rage Against the Mahcine influence is clear, but Linkin Park isn’t political, anthemic music - it’s basically emo. This is a good album, not my taste, but a solid album. Notable tracks include One Step Closer, Points of Authority, Crawling, In the End, A Place For My Head, Forgotten.

Crawling and In the End do the heavy lifting here. Some of these songs and the rhyming scheme are just bad.

2.5 stars This one brings back memories. I know it’s not a great album, but it was what I needed in fifth grade. Hard enough, an emotional enough. The sound is very of the time. But “crawling“ and “in the end“ both still hit. And some of the non-singles do as well. It’s pretty consistent and if you hate this kind of thing, you’ll hate it, but if you’re open to it, it’s fine. Not revolutionary, but also not a bad way to spend your time.

Quite similar until the last few tracks. Liked cure for the itch. 6/10

I was the ideal age for this album when it came out - a moody, angsty preteen. I knew every word and every riff. This was the heaviest thing I had ever listened to at that time. Then I grew up and started noticing how cringeworthy the lyrics actually are. And I discovered better and heavier metal sounds. Linkin Park suddenly didn’t seem so awesome anymore. Listening to it now is a huge nostalgia bomb for me, but objectively I still think this aged into slightly better than average nu-metal.

I recognize its genius and fervor, but I don't think I'd listen to it on my own.

It aged badly, or I aged badly. 3.

3.2/unfortunately i cant take this album seriously. it's got cool moments but i am no longer a fan of this sound

Lowkey good but lowkey pissed me off. This is my least favorite genre of music -- white emo dudes rapping about how hard it is to be a white emo dude. I know he was seriously depressed, though, so more street cred than tøp and definitely sounds nicer.

honestly mostly bad, but nostalgia prevents me from going below a 3. I used to listen to so much Linkin Park as a kid

Cool stuff. Awesome debut.

There are some iconic songs on this album, and i recognise that Linkin Park is a popular and highly influential band. Their music is just not for me 🤷 3

Not my kinda of music. It was ok if kinda samy

heard it a lot in the early 2000's

The standard of quality is consistent, the non-single tracks don't feel like filler which is nice to hear. Production is squeaky clean which probably helped with the commercial success this record saw. Not personally a fan of the hip-hop/metal fusion that a lot of nu-metal encompasses, but even now it's easy to see why this was so popular. It made teen angst and rebellion palatable for 00's kids.

I loved this when I was a kid and had tickets to see them for the tour that was cancelled because we lost Chester.

The hits hit. The deep cuts are so so. RIP Chester. It’s just too dated for me to unironically listen to.

This was ok at the time I remember, but haven’t heard in 15 plus years so. It’s the millennials anger and frustration music etc for the youth of the day, it’s also that over compressed, saturated, dense sound of loud is best which was so prevalent and of the time, even the 1st video that popped up is the visual equivalent of over saturated in a primary colour, that shouts at you. Don’t really have much of an opinion today, its starts out ok. It then starts to become all a-bit the same, probably due to the production, In the End being the standout track. it’s shouty, perhaps a little too much for me today but poppy with it, it mixes elements into rock to be on the list, I have no idea if they were the 1st but it’s the earliest successful. 3 Star.

S-6/10 M-7/10

I’ll admit there are elements of this record I like: the heavy bass and guitar, some of the melodic sections, and the fierce scream vocals. But not much of the rap vocals work for me. I didn’t completely hate it, which is what I expected.

Is this the pinnacle of nu metal? Probably. It's fine, I didn't dislike listening to it. But it's the first time I listened to the whole album, and I don't see myself doing it again anytime soon.

Man 90s boyz were angsty. So insecure! Tries to go hard but the production, while clean is too clean, sterile.

I like the vibe and the rap-rock sound, and the couple big hits are BIG. But overall it's too much the exact same throughout. Just misses 4* for me.

Still cannot believe how popular this is/was

Played this one a lot back in the day. Even night the next album on the release date. But I think the reason I ended up getting rid of both albums and not loving them more is Chester's voice. It's too screechy or something. I'm sure he's the reason most fans liked their music or whatever but it's not for me.

Not my vibe, but it's lyrically strong and I'm a fan of the production

This album is so iconic to my childhood. I probably bought this album shortly after it came out. Then jumped around on couches in my friend’s basement rocking out to it. The lyrics for the time filled with angst, fit right in with so many other artists of the day. Potentially masking Chester’s struggles with mental health (RIP) . As much as I have deep nostalgia for this album, and play it somewhat regularly. Musically I don’t think it holds up to many other great albums. Linkin Park carved out a very unique sound in an emerging genre of music.

Awesome album

Better than incubus

Teenage angst t album

-listening to this while drunk and stressed was an oddly meditative experience… -i feel like i underestimated Linkin Park a little bit before getting to hear one of their albums in full. simply impossible to hate this, i love the energy and it fills me with a weird nostalgia somehow. 3.5 stars, could potentially be a 4 with another listen -Favorites are Papercut, Crawling, and A Place for My Head

Ursprünglich eine 4 gehabt, aber ist doch zu viel mM. In the End finde ich nach wie vor gut, aber ansonsten nichts besonderes, auch nicht mit Nostalgie.

Enjoyed the album a decent amount–a lot more than the Tricky album. Especially liked the songs Papercut, In the End, One Step Closer, and a couple of others. Was a little bit more hard metal than what I'd usually listen to, and this made me enjoy some of the songs less, but still, was good overall.

I was surprised at how many songs I knew. Not my cup of tea but I still listened

Go white boy go

Not as bad as I thought

I think when this came out it was really a statement on the direction of new rock music. I remember listening to Linkin Park and feeling like it was the most cutting edge and boundary pushing thing imaginable. 25 years later I think it's still unique and genre defining, but it's funny how dated this record sounds now - turns out it was only Linkin Park and a handful of other bands making this blend of hip hop / electronica / metal and the genre stayed pretty firmly in those early 2000's without taking over the whole rock scene. Points of originality and nostalgia but this album didn't quite live up to my how I remember first hearing it as a 10 - 12 old kid.

This is by no means a great album. Obviously it's extremely angsty, and is about as shallow as you'd expect. This sort of stuff is aimed solely at teenagers and doesn't really offer a whole lot to those looking to broaden their tastes with interesting music, which I imagine describes most people doing this challenge. But to be honest I kind of enjoy this, sort of ironically. I grew up during a time where this sort of music was dead but could still be occasionally heard in ads and films and the like. So I'm familiar to the sound but don't really have any antipathy for it. I started listening to this album with low expectations, so I could see what it actually does do well. It is pop, if heavy pop, so it has decent hooks and is quite accessible. It's pretty polished. I roll my eyes a bit at the angst of it all, but frankly I can't take the edgelord nature of most 'real' American metal seriously either. Anyway I mostly ignored the lyrics which is probably the way to go with this one. That being said, online there's been a sort of 'reevaluation' of LP where they're being regarded as if they were actually really good all along - the kids who grew up obsessing over them are now old enough to pass off their personal feelings as fact. This 'reappraisal' is just silly. This album is extremely commercial. This is not art. It is okay, from a certain point of view. My enjoyment of it lasted about 4 songs before I got tired of it. It's alright but I won't listen to it again. My favourite bit was 20 seconds into Forgotten, where the instrumentals are kind of interesting.

Good debut album. It marked a generation.

Makes me wish I was an angsty teenager again

I was in middle school when this came out. It was super cool. My buddy Rayna had the cd first before anyone. She was super cool. My brother played this cd in his car. They were on MTV. They mixed genres in a fresh way. It was all super cool. At the time. Today? Not super cool. But I know this is real music. I know there's real feeling. Real skill. Lots of layers. Added emotional layers with Chester gone. It just feels locked, bolted down, knotted up in the year 2000. Is that a bad thing? I don't know. 90s things that feel 90s are cool if you want to feel the 90s. I guess I don't find myself wanting to feel the 00s very often. But it's definitely not bad music. Not cool doesn't equal bad? Haha idk

I respect Linkin Park for the way they have defined the genre with this album and how they have influenced plenty of other artists. It is not my prefered type of music to listen to, therefore I knew it wasn‘t going to be my favourite. Everyone knows “In the End”, along with the other singles from the album. The songs I liked most were “By Myself” and “A Place for My Head”. I get why it is on this list, won‘t listen to it a ton tough.

*** Too loud, too fast, too nervous. Can listen to it for a while and it is ok, but soon it annoys me.

Me ha dado mucha nostalgia escucharlo, está gracioso

A couple of great songs and then some average Linkin Park.

Naja. Vill hässiger gsi als ich denkt ha. Vlt lieds dra dass all lieder wo ich kennt ha, shout outs a mtv und viva eher mainstream rock tauglicheri sind und nöd die heavy metal kräckers. In the emd 5er song claro. Aber chan das es album vu 2 uf 3 lüpfe. Ja wahrschindli scho. Oder was meined ihr? 3 klöten für parki

Not really my thing. Not bad as such just not my taste

Decent listen.

Hard driving rock!

Kind of the same thing over and over. Very 90s sound. Anger disguising sadness - familiar with that. But there isn’t enough dynamics of sounds and tones. The turntable part kinda grinds me.

Better than I thought but not my jam.

Listened in the car after a long stressful day at work. I'd put this in the disappointing category. I was looking forward to it when I saw it was next, but actually found it a little boring. Maybe it just hasn't aged well but I just found the scream/sing softly/rap/DJ scratching really repetitive. A real shame as I like the singles and thought that the new album was pretty good.

Struggling with this one. This album came out right when I was starting to discover my own music in middle school. This reminds me of all-night WoW leveling sessions, or CS 1.6 Games with this in the background. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it's actually all that good of an album. The lyrics are really cringe, the angst is too manufactured. despite it being the soundtrack to a lot of my memories, I never latched on to this band, going more for System of a Down and other Nu-Metal bands that were less angsty.

I’m back in preteen years. This album was huge in my bedroom sound system. Nice to listen again as an adult even though my listening has progressed past this sound. Nice shot of nostalgia

Visceral. Intense. Engaging. At times, beautiful. "In the End" is my favorite tune. I can see why they became huge from the beginning. Can't say it won me over, but I'll listen again.

Firstly, fuck Emily Armstrong (let’s get this to the top!) As for the review - nostalgic and always nice to get a more modern album that has memories for me. Remember LP emerging out of the nu-metal scene but having something different with the DJ, two singers and guitarists ear guards (headphones?!) also enjoyed the collab with Jay-z. But this album specifically… …great opener and moves nicely into the classic ‘One Step Closer.’ Although of a time, still have a very original sound and instantly recognise Chester’s vocals. Production feels a little rough, already, but quality songs with force. I’m all for this style of music, but there were times it felt a little corny, basic, repetitive and cliche. Enjoyed the newness of the songs I hadn’t heard before but pretty much same structure and feel. Nearly 3 for the cheesiness/cliche but let’s go 3.5 for the mems and classics

-crawling and in the end!!! -depressive - a classic

Some bangers for sure, but the scream rock puts me off a bit. Beats are solid. In the End best song on the album.

Decent

They were very good with what they did, but they didn’t do it for me.

Incredible explosive intro but a lot of meh filler on the album. Like that it’s artsy too

It’s ok. I can get into some songs. But it’s not my favorite. 2.8

Yeah, I'm not a fan of gas/electric cars.

RIP, some bangers

Didn’t realize how many songs I already knew off this album, but I even liked the ones I didn’t know!

In the end bumped it from a 2

Hybrid Theory takes me straight back to my youth. It's hard to believe this album is now 25 years old. At the time, I wanted to hate it. I was a mod, and this was what we used to call "greaser music"—something we were meant to avoid. But secretly, I loved it. I just couldn’t admit it out loud. Revisiting it now, more than two decades later, I’m struck by how many solid tracks still hold up. The energy, the angst, the fusion of rap and rock—it all comes rushing back. There’s a raw urgency that captures a very specific moment in time. That said, age brings perspective. As a 40-year-old listener, the cracks show more clearly. The album lacks variety, and its sound rarely strays from a narrow formula. There’s a sameness to the production that makes the second half blur together. In hindsight, Linkin Park wasn’t alone—many bands of that era, like Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach, mined similar territory with similar limitations. Favourite tracks: The big hits still land: One Step Closer, In the End, and Papercut remain standout anthems. Least favourite: I never liked Crawling. It still sounds like entrance music for a pro wrestler. Album artwork: Still a cool and iconic cover—gritty, bold, and instantly recognizable.

It's a dumb early 2000's rock album, with all the usual dated production, but I understand why a bunch of teenagers love it. And I love Transformers. 3 stars.

i can’t say i’m really in to nu-metal. the singles off this album is quite iconic but i don’t go out of my way to listen to them. they’re fun to hear when someone covers them in a different style or genre xD i say this but then “in the end” comes on and i’m like HYPEEEE !!!! my fave song is actually the mostly instrumental Cure for the Itch. it almost sounds a bit Aphex Twin.

On another day, I may have given this a 5 star review. I can't quite do that today though, the angst nu metal rap I'm finding it hard to dig into.

There was parts that I enjoy but the big loud instrumentals and screaming just didn’t work as much for me. 3 stars still

Es fätzt scho rächt. Velecht fascht e chli fescht. Ech ha jetzt vorallem die es bez ruhigere Stelle gnosse wommer au t Melodie chli ghört. Trozdem esches halt sehr Linkin Parky typisch halt scho no geil. Vorallem bi öppis Körperlech asträngendem oder so. Halt äbe wie fätzt, aber au t Rockgitarre ond alli andere Instromänt wo sie halt e so inenämed passt halt eifach no guet.

I cannot review this objectively. It was a very formative album for 12-year-old me. Do I like it now the way I used to? Hell no. But I can still sing most of the words. Everyone talks shit on this album because it makes heaviness and edginess sort of “safe” or something. But I do think 12-year olds need a good onramp to the highway of heavy music. And Linkin Park took their work seriously, instead of having this violent “nothing matters” jokey approach to the world like a lot of their peers in the scene did, and I think that counts for something too. All the complaints surrounding this band and album are valid, but my counterpoint is that it still has a lot of value, value that other bands maybe weren’t providing (and still don’t in 2025 honestly). This is a must-listen for the influence and for what it represents. (#157)

Linkin Park in its heyday.

I don't get much out of 2000s rap metal/nu metal, but I'm willing to believe Hybrid Theory is one of the better examples of the genre.

It's cheesy, it's not bad, it's just a lot

Exactly what I thought it would be

You can see why this launched them onto the scene. Packet full of tracks you can't have missed even if you haven't been a massive fan (like me). 'Papercut' and 'In the End' are standouts. The other singles are quality. It would get a bit samey after a while, but it is a good samey.

As a fan of rock, metal, hip hop, industrial, and overly emotional lyrics, this should be the best album I’ve ever heard. Each part is done well, but it just feels like less than the sum of its parts. Maybe it’s age

The less douchy version of limp bizkit, with lyrics about how relationships are hard, thus also appealing to girls, which means double the sales. I was 15 when this came out and my favourite bands where RATM (nu metal) and Atmosphere ( emo rap). I was in the middle of the linkin park venn diagram but I still didn’t feel it. Didn’t hate it either. Same feeling now. Lyrics are too single minded. They’re all about toxic relationships. Yawn. But their influence is obviously enormous.

Can see why it's on the list but not really my cup of tea

Slightly more interesting than I was anticipating but still particularly mid. This genre of American shouty rock just doesn’t appeal

The album was okay. Some nostalgia, but was never my cup of tea. Kind of “tap out” rock meets grunge and rap. I can see why it was influential and so defining for its time. But for me, just okay

Solid college years album

Groundbreaking, I suppose if you're into the style. I'm just not and this album doesn't do much for me.

An album that helps mainstream rock-rap, a listen years later leaves me thinking it was just pretty ok. It’s a good listen when you want to get work done and I like the interplay of the different vocalists, but the albums is somewhat the same on every song. Mostly in a duple time signature. Rap intro…song chorus. Or sing the intro and then a rap chorus. Good for a few tunes and then skip the others.

Fuck. Don’t even need to listen. I’ve heard it many times. This came out my first year of high school. It was a game changer to be sure. Felt like the moment it dropped everyone showed up at school next day and it was all anyone could talk about. Seems like half the album were hit singles. And funny when after what felt like a long wait, everyone wondering if they could possibly top their breakout success, they finally released their next album… which was a remix of this album.

I feel like I've let Dom down but it's just not as good as I remember

didn't love it, didn't hate it. meh.

Edgy and brash, can see why a lot of teens and rebellious folk enjoyed

Naren core. Loved tracks t-2 thru end

It always takes me a minute to get back into this kind of music but then I like it. Linkin Park often plays at my climbing gym and I do sing along. It reminds me of being a teenager when they would play a lot (and In the End was a meme) I do now find some of it a bit cheesy though. Fav song: A Place for my Head, I like the guitar at the beginning Least fav: Runaway, I think this is the most guilty of cheesy lyrics. Particularly the bit at the end where the rhyming words are the ones that are shouted.

:/ No es mi rollo pero buena produ

Listening to Hybrid Theory for the first time in ages, probably since Chester passed away, it makes the album experience so sad for me. The album holds on until In the End, but falls flat after it. I dont like metal or numetal as much to have it on rotation, but I understand that LP music helped a lot of youth of the 2000's Did I like it? not as much as everyone else, but I can't help but feel empathy for Chester after reading about his teenage years. At least they didnt feel the need to bloat the disc with more music than necessary 3/5

6/10 An album that hasn’t aged super well for me compared to Meteora

É bom, mas n gosto tanto assim d rock

Less obnoxious than I thought it’d be. I’ve always written Linkin Park off as being a shitty nu metal band for emo teens but I didn’t mind it, even the album tracks packed some quality. A decent spin.

Emo kids angry that their mom won't buy them the latest shirt from Hot Topic will really love this

I never listened to this before. It’s what Limp Bizkit is shooting for: a seamless connection between 90s metal and 90s rap. It’s executed well, but it isn’t for me: I’m too long in the tooth to enjoy adolescent rage.

scream singing is not something i’ve ever been able to get into. this album does sound like listening to the original of something, however. spectacular guitar, obviously. big fan of the synth in point of authority.

1. Papercut: Catchy Rhythm and flow 2. One Step Closer: Very Heavy, Softer Vocals. Catchy Chorus. Very Good Dynamics and Breakdown 3. With You: Great Instrumental Chord Progressions and catchy Vocals. Fav track so far 4. Points of Authority: Very Heavy and great dynamics 5. Crawling: Softer Intro and good instrumentals. ⭐️ 6. Runaway: good vocals, incredible fry vocals ⭐️ 7. By Myself: very experimental for the album and great verses⭐️ 8. In the End: Understandably the most popular song on the album. Incredible Chorus 🌟 9. A Place for My Head: Great Guitar Intro very catchy verses ⭐️ 10. Forgotten: Good Chorus, great dynamics ⭐️ 11. Cure for the Itch: Catchy Rhythms and cool concept 12. Pushing Me Away: Great way to end the album. Very consistent album 🌟 4/5 for Alt Rock, not entirely my taste but great consistency throughout the album.

Loud, chaotic, messy, very metallic ( in a good way!!!) For the punk and metalhead! Most favorite: Points of Authority

def need a relisten

It’s got some decent riffs and some of the tunes are pretty catchy. I also I didn’t realise I knew so many of their songs (albeit they’re all quite similar). That being said I’ve never really loved Linkin Park. There’s just something about them that all feels like it’s been done before, and they’re like a lightweight juvenile version of it. Rage Against the Machine are far superior on the anger/lyrical front; and musically dare I say Limp Bizket and System of a Down musically do this in more fun and interesting ways and got there first. Fair play though for being the cornerstone of many teenage awakenings I’m sure.

3.0 - Ok

I'd give it a 3.75

Worse than I remember, surprisingly prefer softer LP

Great musicians. Not quite my tempo. 5/10

very iconic and nostalgic, but with a more objective approach, its not that impressive, and I always preferred meteora

For every absolute banger there was songs that were just kind of blogs. I'm sure late middle school or high school me would have eaten this up. I did know the hits from back then, but never the full album.

I really struggled with this. I recognize that many people love this band and I respect them for that. I get how this would resonate with certain groups in 2000. But, I guess this isn't my cup of tea. Chester's vocals always seems so flat and off key. I also don't care for Mike Shinoda's style of rapping.

I only give this album points because they influenced "Bring Me The Horizon" who got me through my highschool years but most of this stuff has aged pretty poorly just sounds like typical edgy nu metal from the 2000s but there is some legitimately good songs on here. "Papercut" for example 7/10 Favourite: Papercut Least Favourite: In the End

hilarious

I am no longer a fan of nu metal, however I used to be a big fan of this album and the tracks “run away” and “a place for my head” will always be a great listen. You can hear the influence this album had on the metal genre as a whole, even till this day. This album introduced me to heavy music and without it I would not have broadened my musical horizons.

Nu Metal should, categorically, not exist. However.... I appreciate Linkin Park assumed the role (someone had to) of "Fuck you Mum, I can do what I want!", the band. If it was 2000 and I'd just turned 16, I'd probably think this is dope too. The transition between tracks one and two really sets the tone, and the overdrive on those leads never really goes away. Chester's vocals, however, get really corny really quickly, even more so than Shinoda's in a listen endured these days. Despite being largely unbearable these days, the album definitely accomplished what it set out to do, and provided people a soundtrack to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for years. 6/10

If I think of this album as metal then it ain’t great, but if I think of it as pop it’s awesome! So I’m doing that.

Hear a different Linkin Park album before. Honestly? They make quite enjoyable music 3/5

Loud, powerful, moody

אמא אל תכנסי לי לחדר

Finally a record I already knew. I grew up around the time that this album became a hit. Back then I had a contradictory relationship to this album. I had friends who listened to it on repeat and whenever I was with them, it would play in the background. I somehow liked the music but, the friends who listened to it, they were not in a happy place, and they were not happy and I was not happy either. This music is tied to my memories of this time. So it’s a bit hard for me to rate this. I acknowledge the musical quality. It’s a dense and atmospheric album. An experience. My past memories keep me from enjoying this music (too much). I think I would give this album a much higher rating if it weren’t for my memories. I can only give it 3/5 stars.

First half >

Onhan tämä näin parinkymmenen vuoden jälkeen aika hirvittävää kuunneltavaa, mutta on tämän vaikutus musakenttään kiistaton. Olkoon nyt vaikka kolmonen kunnioituksesta. 3/5

A pretty decent album overall with no great songs but no bad ones either. 3 stars or C+.

Didn’t really listen to this on release, but probably would have enjoyed the metal hip-hop blend. But, not a today thing for me.

Much better 90s album than you would think. Couple of great tracks on here. Overall angry sound you can get behind. Nothing stellar in the music or lyrics, gut a good overall effort.

So 2000s.

I wish there was less rap. Sometimes they have a good dynamic going though, like on In The End. Chester was great.

In the end was really awesome, but the rest was pretty average. And there was one or two that were really bad, kinda leaning into the heavy metal kinda thing that I don't really like. 6.5/10

still don't really like the heavier music, but it does have some songs with slower parts which i liked.

I know this is a seminal album for a lot of people, but for me, it’s just alright.

This is a major contribution to, at the time, was a very different take on grunge & metal. This is overproduced and formulaic but if you listen to the lyrics is expressive and vulnerable real songwriting which is more than I can say for most of the garbage that came out of this era.

Not my thing

Kedvenc/Favourite: Cure for the Itch Nagyon nem az én világom, őszintén. Really not my thing, honestly. I think if I'd listened to it more when I was 13 or 15, I would have liked it and it still would probably be something I enjoy. Essentially, I can hear why a lot of people like it, it plays pretty well to the strengths of the hard rock/nu metal genres, the subject matter is well expressed in the lyrics.

My initial reaction is: How does this singer not have a sore throat? I remember hearing “In the End” on the radio a lot back when this album was released, but not the other songs on the album. Although this is not my favorite genre, it is well done. It’s clever how they incorporated some rap in with their heavy metal.

Wow, I'm so happy to get all these artists I actually know! Finally, things are coming up Milhouse. Now to be clear, I don't really like Linkin Park. In fact I made fun of them many times in the 2000s. The yelly rapping is not something I enjoy. But at the same time, C.Bennie's voice induces some serious nostalgia, because they were all over the radio and the rock countdown at a very formative time in my music life. I know people will disagree, and they may be correct to do so, but I think Hoobastank does this style of music better. :D: Highlight: 'In the End'

This is certainly a nu metal album. It’s def a time and place for me and certainly not a style I gravitate to, but it certainly has a point of view.

I remember when this came out. A couple of good tunes on it. Not really my thing. Ok for some background music.

It feels like there's been a concerted 'on second thoughts' rehabilitation attempt around Linkin Park of late, but actually, it's just quite average nu-metal. The vocals are better than most, and it's definitely not as annoying as something like Limp Bizkit, but nor does it have the velocity of a Slipknot or similar.

I've always thought of this album as the Winger/Nelson of the Rap-rock/NU-Metal genre. Basically, they're well crafted, pretty pop songs dressed up (or down) in nu-metal clothes

Even though I listened to this album a lot, I'd just give it a 3 never cared mich for them, their music wasn't as powerful as I needed it to be, they are good but not as much to my liking... I still think their best song is Given Up

Nu-metal without the power of Korn. Reminds me of high school except I graduated in ‘87

I like a few Linkin Park songs, but I don't think I've listened to a whole album before now. It's got a couple of the hits I know, and the rest of the songs aren't bad, but I don't know if I have it in me to appreciate an entire nu metal album. This isn't a hate on nu metal specifically, I've got a dozen songs that I paid money for, but it grates on me after a few songs in a row. Which I guess is part of the problem I have with thrash, too. It's relentlessly LOUD. It's got some good songs, like Papercut, In The End, Runaway, and A Place for My Head is trying things I haven't heard before, and succeeding more than it fails. Maybe I'll be proven wrong later in this project, but the last nu metal album they gave me was Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, which was, to be fair, fascinatingly terrible (it's the album for people whose parents could easily afford therapy, but don't trust it). This sounds more negative than I actually am on the songs here. They're mostly good, but it's less than the sum of its parts. I hate to say it, but maybe it could use a "Beth."

This mashup of hard rock and rap is pretty nice - I've heard better from them. And I am from their home town - I can attest that they're good dudes.

That bro needs some milk

I think the last time i sat down and heard this whole album, I was in high school and I still somehow knew like 90% of the songs. 4-5 songs I knew the song by the opening riff, but talked myself out of it thinking it was another one of those 2000s rap rock bands. I didn't notice it when I was younger but this album is a bit formulaic (heavy intro, stripped back + electronic verse, heavy hook- or vise versa), but I think at it's only like 30 minute run time it's easy to miss that. I think I'd only call the DJ track filler, there's a lot of singles off of this album and the production is pretty decent. I'm not top sure this holds up, it feels VERY 2000s.

My cousin got my little sister this cd for Christmas when she was in middle school and she was APPALLED. It was so funny. 3 stars for a good Christmas memory

I wouldn’t listen again (apart from in the end) but enjoyed!! Favs: Papercut One step closer In the end - 5/5 love

Emo nu-metal. Not bad, but I'm not connecting - probably too old and don't have that much angst anymore.

I found the album a bit too heavy for me I think, which surprised me. Maybe I don’t feel the same level of agression / angst that I might have had a as a teenager - but even then, I don’t think it would have been for me. Bar “In The End” nothing stuck with me. The sound was like Papa Roach crossed with Evanescence.

I was familiar with a lot of this album going in. Im not really the biggest Lincoln Park guy- their music always felt excessively edgey to me. I fel this way about this album as well- but I still found myself enjoying it at parts. They have a real distinct vision/tone for the album which I think was successful, and the hits are definitely hits. Overall- decent album. 3.5/5

Hybrid Theory is a fitting name. It's as if a mad scientist hypothesized the perfect mix of metal, hard rock, hip-hop, and electronic elements to attain maximum appeal. Many had committed their career to fusing rock and rap (e.g. 311, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, etc) but none had quite dialed in their variables like Linkin Park did here. Having praised them, now we pull the curtain back. They're not the "innovators" they're often said to be. They are deeply formulaic. Almost every song follows the same structure: rap the verses, sing the chorus, layer in power chords, sprinkle in some turntable scratches or a moody electronic breakdown, then build to an emotional climax. It’s pop music dressed in heavy guitars and angst. Chester’s introspective lyrics and emo vocals (and competent enough rap) gave them a distinct edge over the more aggressive or comedic acts in the genre (it seemed like rock/rap bands were either doing a hip-hop hubris, bravado type of thing or they thought comedy and jokes was the path to popularity). Hybrid Theory is competent but broad. Twenty-five years later it's too predictable to be truly exciting, yet it's totally effective. You can still turn this record up and respect it. It’s a formula that worked. And, frankly, no other band mining the hybridization of rock/rap has replicated it quite as successfully. Welcome to your 3 stars Linkin Park. You are my highest rated rock/rap record.

It’s okay. Silly. But silly is okay sometimes.

Interesting, with one very popular song (that I like), "In the end", but the rest of the record sounds more or less the same to me. I know, I know, I'm getting old. I wish I had learned about them when I was younger. Still, cool record.

Generally a blast, but some weak points

The songwriting is pretty good and it seems like this is something I should like, but nothing really grabs me here. I think it's the mediocre bass. Insert a decent bass player, insert more stars.

Lot of good songs, but kinda boiled down to a lot of screaming

This is the bridge between Nu-Metal and Emo. I'm not sure if that's a compliment.

Looking at other's reviews, this is one of the most polarizing albums, and I actually see both perspectives. It can certainly be vapid and over-produced at times, giving us sort of the worst of metal and the worst of rap all at the same time. However, it being accessible for the mainstream is an accomplishment. The big songs on this album hit hard, being catchy and aggressive, often packing an emotional punch. There are some weaker tracks to be sure. I understand that this polished edginess rubs people the wrong way, and I'd hesitate to call myself the biggest LP fan. But Chester's vocals are visceral and that's what keeps me coming back.

Hybrid Theory is Linkin Park’s iconic debut album that redefined nu-metal and rap-rock. Here’s a breakdown of its incredible tracks, each packed with raw energy, emotion, and innovation: Tracklist Highlights from Hybrid Theory 1. Papercut • A perfect opening track with themes of paranoia and self-doubt. • Chester Bennington’s soaring vocals paired with Mike Shinoda’s rap verses create a unique balance. 2. One Step Closer • Explosive and rebellious, it’s an anthem of frustration and anger. • The iconic “Shut up when I’m talking to you!” line made it unforgettable. 3.
