Solid Album. Felt like I was in a transformers movie for a second there

just liiike beforeee,,,,,,EVERYTHING YOU SAY TO MEEEEE

It’s hybrid theory man it fucks First half is better than the second, or maybe just more iconic

Although I agree that nu-metal is one of the least appealing sub-genres of metal, I wasn't expecting good ol Linkin Park to get so much hate

Great debut album I’ve liked for a long time. Came out at the right time in my life when this type of music was in heavy rotation on my 5 disc CD changer. Had a copy in my giant car CD binder.

Wow if this was not a trip down memory lane. Right to the turn of the millennium. Gotta love Linkin Park.

Good. As expected. As in, every song sounds exactly how you'd expect a Linkin Park song to sound like.

Actually quite good, 7/10.

really takes me back. in hindsight, how did we not know that Chester was unwell?

I've never really been into punk/emo, whatever you want to call this. Google informs they are a "rock" band. But this was a really fun listen and it helped me work through some anger that I was feeling this morning. If I had listened to this (and had the capacity to listen to it objectively) as a teenager, I think it could have been an album I listened to regularly. Not so much my vibe these days but you know what, it's something I could still listen to occasionally. You're never too old for Linkin Park. "Crawling" and "In The End" were my standout tracks. Good pick today.

Always a classic

4.5/5. This album is so close to a 5 from me. It is insanely good

Too teenage angsty; But nostalgic

I genuinely thought I would love hearing this again more than I actually did. It's the Linkin Park debut right? Saw them tour this album live at Brixton in one of the sweatiest nights ever. Came away thinking Chester would never be able to sustain that level of vocal performance for more than a single album / tour. It's not aged *brilliantly* thought - yes, the bangers still absolutely bang, but the filler is nu-metal blah blah. Somewhere between a 3 and 4, went for a 4 because of the warm nostalgia vibes.

Yeah man I fuck with this album, I always remembered hearing songs off this album in edits all over YouTube when I was younger, it also really surprised me that this album came out in 2000, I would've guessed 2005 at the very least, but this coming out in 2000 kinda made this album a pioneer for the punk rock/rap genre. There is a LOT of songs I learned that I really really like on this album, mainly "By Myself" and "A Place for My Head". I honestly have not heard either of these songs until today and I loved them. Obviously you have some of Linkin Park's biggest songs on here like "Crawling" and "In the End", and I loved those as well but I was pleasantly surprised with the rest of the album as well. It is hard for me to hear Linkin Park today and not think of Transformers, I feel like that was one of the first times hearing them when I was younger. Yeah I loved this album overall, I give it a solid 4 overall, I'm really surprised how many songs I loved from them. Hope to hear more from them, RIP Chester Bennington.

Trip down memory lane - I bought this album when it came out, listened for about a year, then moved on and never really listened again until now. Songs are better than I remembered, though I'm still not crazy about nu-metal. Cure for the Itch doesn't really fit the rest of the album

Klassiker der Rock-Musikgeschichte "Crawling", "in the end".

Minutes to Midnight was more my Linkin Park album, but this is great. So angsty, brings back memories of going out aged 16-17 round Bury. Runaway, Crawling, Forgotten, and of course In the End are the best songs. I was at a bar in Kyoto about 2 months ago, and was speaking to the Japanese barman. He had a huge tattoo of "Chester" written on his arm. We had just been speaking with some Americans who had a friend at the University of Chester, so was baffled by the coincidence. Of course, turns out he was mourning Bennington. RIP.

This is difficult to rate.... Very nostalgic, but very much of a time. Is nu metal like this still made? Is it nu metal??? I would've been 14 when this was released, which would've been around the perfect age for this. I'm not actually sure how much I was into them at the time, but I've heard it a lot and definitely had friends who were. I remember a lot of Linkin Park hoodies. That being said, I know it quite well and there are still some really good tracks. But Jesus Christ it's angsty.... With hindsight, It's clear Chester was really suffering It gets a little bit limp bizkit in parts, which I don't like. Forgotten in particular. Highlights: A place for my head One step closer Points of authority In the end Not sure how much I would like it if I was hearing it for the first time now, but for nostalgia's sake, it's getting a 3.5

Great album for the new Millenium! Chester’s vocals are amazing!

Awesome album, unpopular opinion: In The End is the weakest track on the release. Best tracks are Papercut, Runaway, A Place For My Head and a couple others. Also cool non vocal track Cure For The Itch.

I had forgotten the power of this record. By the end of the nineties Brit Pop had imploded and rock in general was a lame duck. This was something different and my word did it Rock.

influencé par ma nostalgie. not a real 4, like a bowie 4. more a personal 4

Oh man. I listened to this album so many times as a basic, angsty teenager. It's hard for me to unbiased on this album so Im just going to lean into it.

RIPCB. Rest in Peace Chester Bennington. Cure for the Itch is the worst song.

Their hits are great

Despite occasionally sounding outdated, Linkin Park’s debut surprisingly stood the rest of time very well for the most part. Proving to definitely be one of the more influential projects of the early 2000’s, Hybrid Theory remains one of the most interesting and unique rock records that I have heard in recent memory, and one that I imagine I will only grow more fond of as I become more familiar with it.

makes me feel like a teenage boy w a shitty home life

It’s Linkin Park probably one of the better albums by them had a few songs I liked from way back when

omfg actual banger album 8/10

What would kids today call this? Lit? Dare I say, bussin? 🗣️🔥

I don't know why I cucked myself not listening this album when I was a kid, maybe I didn't have someone to recommend it to me, I remember seeing crawling on MTV but at the time It didn't click with me, I was spamming Toxicity and maybe it felt to EMO and I rejected it, big mistake, this album is banger after banger.

Classic album, among the first that I ever really enjoyed

Wow Linkin park. Didn't think this one he my favorite so far. These guys make people, who don't normally listen to heavy music, like heavy music. Every song on here is good and a few are incredible. 4.5 stars

I’ve always enjoyed this album but I have to be in the mood for it because of how much some of the singles played on the radio.

Esse album me traz várias memórias da adolescência. Muito enérgico e agonizante.

it's highschool all over again.

4. Tbh I probably only like this because of the nostalgia...

I was hesitant to listen to this, nu metal isn't my favourite form of metal so I only was kinda aware of Linkin Park having intentionally avoided them in the past. This album is pretty good all told, nice riffs and found myself enjoying most of the songs. Scored higher than I expected to.

good old nu metal

What a defining album at the turn of a millennia. I remember buying Meteora as a kid and loved that album. This album has a kind of nostalgic swagger too and while I really would never listen to this album today, the 14-year old in me would like to give this a 4/5

It was good. Early 00s metal.

I sneered at it when it first came out, but this album goes hard.

Not a 5 star album. But close. Has a lot or nostalgia to angsty 13 year old James.

Wow, this was an awesome throwback. Crazy how I remember like 80% of the lyrics after 20 years. Really enjoyed but don't think I'll go back to it on my own time.

Pretty good. I know it's their sound but I sometimes feel like I wish instead of the verses being mostly rap they had written melodic verses. I quite enjoy the music but wish there was a melody to tie it together

Album 116 of 1001 Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory Favorite Track : Crawling Rating : 3 / 5 Classified as "Rock" but most songs need to be hyphenated as 'rap-rock. Recognized several songs from radio. This is one where I should probably spend more time on the lyrics, but that will have to wait. Like this one more that I expected. I read other reviews and many are destroying the album, so I let that get in my head and think I'm not supposed to like it. Guess I lack normalcy, because I pretty much enjoyed it. That doesn't make it a "great" album. A 3 is still good. Some songs stronger than others, but nothing that just sucked and some that were pretty good.

Stilbildend

Tough guy emotions. The anger overflows it makes you want to scream along. Vocals are unique. Guitar + hip hoppy.

Nostalgic nu-metal or rock/rap. Good juxtaposition between Mike rapping and Chester singing. Sometimes comes off as too edgy. Super nostalgic. RIP Chester.

I remember that the opinion on Linkin Park was that it's a little bit cringe. Well that was for rap metal in general except Rage Against the Machine. In retrospective I've always liked Linkin Park. It's a little bit silly with the shifting between the rapping parts, the melodic singing and heavy metal instruments but it sure is fun to listen to. Chester Bennington's raspy singing is as always impressive. The nostalgia is real with this album.

A classic. I forgot how short it is. Reminds me of high school.

Wow, the memories. The songs still carry the same energy, it just doesn't resonate in the same way as when I was younger.

I tried so hard and got so far But in the end, it doesn't even matter I always surprise myself how much I like Linkin Park. I do love In the End - it’s one of those songs I can listen to on repeat. Great sound and energy.

My opinion of Linkin Park has changed as a result of this endeavor. Admittedly, I'm not going to count myself a fan. Even when I was a teen, I didn't feel the angst and rage or whatever it is that fuels the emotional undercurrent of this music, so I don't connect on that level. And as such, I find the lyrics rather adolescent and simple — that's fine, but they don't speak to me. On top of all that, the production and aesthetic is a little processed and slick for my taste. But... I'm buying that what these guys are selling is genuine, and there's a definite craft at work. The songs are well-constructed, there's a lot going on, and the various vocalists keep this interesting. So while I didn't connect, I was impressed on a lot of levels, and thus the 4-star rating. Finding I don't have to love an album to appreciate it, and in the future, I might even turn an LP song up rather than switching to something else.

Already a huge fan of this album. Great nostalgia trip and I love LP anyway. Some great tracks on here and iconic among fans

Highschool me gives this a 5 tho

Angry rock that I actually like

Didnt age real well. It had its place in time.

Classic Linkin' Park.

Maybe the key album of this much maligned genre

Listened Before? Y This album was a staple in my CD player in the early 2000's. While a lot of the "hits" are overplayed to me, that doesn't take away from the quality of this work. This was the right album at the right time. Essentially a rap-metal album at its core, it has more feeling and depth than something similar like, say, Limp Bizkit's "Chocolate Starfish..." which is just pure aggression and testosterone. These dudes (probably mostly Chester) wrote and recorded something more. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Papercut, Forgotten

Really enjoyed this, way more than I thought I was going to. The late 90s early 00s sound is one that always sticks with me. Because even as a metal album it has a feeling of hope. The only way to encapsulated this for me is like eating take out, nice to have once in a while, if you have it every day there is something wrong.

Wtf this is good! Although I'm glad that this style of metal has fallen out of fashion, as it can certainly be a bit cheesy, I really enjoy this! I never got into Linkin Park when they were popular but I still enjoy this music in a similar way that I do That's the Spirit era Bring Me or System of a Down in general, which I think is quite indicative of how strong the early 2000s style comes through in a lot of this music. I think I will explore some more of the band sometime soon.

Hmm. I lile the nostalgia of the production and some of the tracks like in the end have fantastic flow. its almost like a begrudging acceptance that his flow is interesting. but generally it's pretty good. Its just v white and v nu metal and its hard to seperate that mentally from limp bizkit lol. The lyrics are angsty in quite an unapologetic way. its an interesting album for sure, and presenting the album as a thoery that nu metal can be a medium forBenninghams self expression, coherence of issues in combination with the frustration of what has been is one of the most meaningful things that nu metal as a genre can be seen to represent.

I hadn't really listened to much Linkin Park before (for some reason I think of them and Limp Bizkit when I think of punk/rap/metal). This was fun though. Would listen to more of them

Nostalgic. Reminds me of being 14. Not the best but I like it

A millennial classic. This album, played in entirety, is great for workouts.

It starts with one. HAHA anyway, I'm 33 now. I was 10 when this album came out. In the End was a cultural phenomenon and felt new and totally fresh and interesting (which is funny, because, in retrospect it was basically just nu-metal with rapping and that's not really all that novel). In any case, this album is actually kinda perfect. The lyrics are kind of repetitive/melodramatic/shallow, but I can't overstate the nostalgia factor. If I were more courageous, I'd give this the full 5, but I'm just still a bit too ashamed about liking Linkin Park. Standouts: One Step Closer, With You, Crawling, Runaway, In the End, A Place for My Head

Takes me back to high school, other than the record scratches and a few overly angsty lyrics I think this has aged pretty well.

Pretty awesome stands the test of time

Compact and effective. Nothing gets tiresome, and the pace just keeps going.

Great, amazing debut. I remember hearing this for the first time and asking “Who TF are these guys?!” And it’s the same reaction now. They get close to the ‘poor me’ genre but thankfully don’t dip too deep.

For all the memes and edgy teen lyrics, it is a solid album.

This album drips with nostalgia. Makes me want to punch a steering wheel while driving to find a 90’s themed Taco Bell.

Very corny, and pretty mid on occasion but it's good overall

Nearly a 5, RIP Chester lid

too much metal for me 4 stars

Harddd

Although a bit edgy lyrics-wise, the songs sound great and have a certain quality beside the teenage-angst aesthetic.

I have a soft spot for this album. It’s the perfect time capsule back to the early 2000s. Sure, it’s aged kinda badly (specifically the rapping parts) but that’s part of its charm for me. Chester’s voice was so good man.

This album came out when I was 15. I remember greatly enjoying it as a sophomore at Bonneville High School. The opening alarm sounds for the arrival of rap, electronica, DJ spinning and hard rock all on one album, the band's "hybrid theory". Chester Bennington (RIP) had a very versatile voice, and this album was perfect for the teenage aggression of me and many of my friends. Lots of hits: Papercut, One Step Closer, In The End & Crawling made it onto many Curtis' Mixes circa 2001. Good revisit.

A staple of the nu metal genre, I have heard of it, but never listened to it besides the radio hits, was an interesting listen, that although it feels like 2000’s music, that doesn’t make it a knock on it, if anything it’s stood the test of time.

Oikein hyvä levy ja pystyy kuuntelemaan loopilla läpi monta kertaa. Omissa papereissa silti jää jotain vajaaksi, että nousisi absoluuttiseen timantti-kategoriaan. Joka tapauksessa viihdyttävä levy kaikin puolin.

It's nice to revisit my teenage obsession. Well-produced, but kind of predictable and even synthetic as a result. Still, the pop structure is probably what launched them into popularity back then. Some of the riffs are, while simple, memorable at least for me. I can smell the 2000's air with that iconic "In the End" riff. Of course we have Chester whose voice and screams can tickle any adolescent angst. And Mike who flows well with Chester, although I do agree that his rapping is mediocre at best. Overall, a fun listen. Partly because of the nostalgia that it brings. I hate being that guy but life really felt better back in those days. As an album, it's pretty nice still. Its predecessor, "Meteora" might be more solid and more polished, but this album still have the angsty early LP vibe.

The first album I remember owning "buying". One of my first days in Anchorage as a kid, my mom and I went to the mall and I picked up a walkman and this CD and fell in love forever. I own it on vinyl and I think I'll play it today (3/6/23).

Pretty good. Brings me back to my angsty childhood.

A classic from my middle school days that I never got around to listening to all the way through. Pretty good! Has a good flow all the way through

Makes me emo asfffff

Nu metal alternativo. Un megahit. Un 4.

Great album, one of the standout albums of the nu metal era, with proper melodies, and catchy riffs.

Hadn't listened to this in like 2 decades. I like it better than I expected. 3.75/5

I really kinda hate Linkin Park, but I'll give them some credit. For a debut album, this was HUGE when it came out. They had people going ape shit. Even listening to it now, I can hate it and kinda get into it at the same time. It jacks you up, that's for sure. It's okay, but I'll bump up the rating in the context of this list. I don't necessarily want to listen to it, but I think everyone probably should listen to it, ya know?

RIP Chester Bennington I listened to so many of these tracks when I was a young emo kid and they still hit right in the gut Loved the mixing of rock and rap styles 4/5

not bad surprisingly

An album I listened to many times over and over when I was younger. I still enjoy the album and think the music is pretty good. Some songs aren’t as enjoyable now. The rap/rock combo doesn’t work often but linkin park has made it work having two different vocalists do it. I prefer metoera over this album but this debut is awesome and I’ll listen to it for years to come. 8.0/10

4.5 for me. Main character OST

pure nostalgia

Baita som, pesado numa mesma pilha

Huh, wasn't expecting to see this on here. I was more a fan of "Meteora", but this is still good. Is it cheesy at spots? Yeah, "Crawling" has been a meme for-fucking-ever for the "teenager's tear-stained diary" approach. But I think the songs are well-written, catchy, and I think Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda's trade-offs flow naturally and wonderfully. Also, Joe Hanh does fantastically on the turntable. I'm biased because I was a teenager when this was out, but I genuinely think it still holds up. Favorite tracks: "One Step Closer", "Pushing Me Away", "Cure For The Itch", "Points of Authority"

I actually really liked this album. The duo singers made this album so good. I listened to it while I worked out and it gave me immense amounts of energy and motivation

4.5 This was one of my favorites when it came out and for the next couple of years. Jam-packed with amazing songs. Standouts: In the End, Crawling, My December, One Step Closer, Papercut

Great debut album. Very sad about Chester.

Bit dated but a classic.

As a debut pretty solid overall. Not something I see myself going back to time and time again, I think the nu metal phase was kind of played out, but might listen to again for some nostalgia.

I want to be crystal clear: I HATE THIS SO MUCH. It is important to a lot of people. It makes sense to a lot of people. Not to me. This is the distillation of a few genres and they do it successfully. I STILL HATE IT. It is produced well, sounds great and if I were 15 when this came out playing Tony Hawk on my PS2, I would love it. I am not so I REALLY HATE IT. That being said I still have to rate it relatively high for its achievement.

pretty cool

Good with some iconic songs

Modern classic. RIP Chester.

Familiarity bias. Could have sworn Numb was on this album.

Love this album. I'm absolutely biased, since I was a kid when this released and Linkin Park was the first CD I owned, but this was an awesome nostalgia trip.

Suddenly I remember being 20. Favorites: Crawling, Papercut, A Place for My Head.

I think Linkin Park is a great band and i really liked the majority of the album. If i had listened to this album when i grew up i would probably given it a 5 but with one listen through of the album i give it a 4.

I have a lot more appreciation for this in my 40s than I did in my 20s. The guitars are so massive and the mixing is incredible. But I still just can't with these lyrics. They were always the thing that turned me off of Linkin Park and that hasn't changed. So, while I enjoyed the album way more than I expected to, it still gets docked a star because of whiny emo bullshit. Life hurts. It's a universal condition. Suck it up and carry on.

I never liked the term nu-metal. Yes, this is tough to classify, but nu-metal seems a lazy way of describing Linkin Park's music. Yes, there are elements of metal, hard rock, hip-hop, but the duality of the rapping and screaming is what gives this material a lot of the power. The interactions between Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda are continually impressive, which is essential to the success of the album. The rage and deep emotions run throughout - in the best way imaginable. This is almost a musical therapy session. Not everything works, but it is damn impressive.

A classic 👌 the record that defeated the nu metal era fortunately... In the End big big banger 👏 underrated tracks... With You, A Place for my Head, Forgotten & Cure for an Itch 🤘

a classic, but only for certain moods

I fairly stubbornly avoided nu-metal as a teenager, but I did always have a bit of a soft spot for these guys. This is the first time I've listened to this album the whole way through, and I quite enjoyed it! I do still find some of the rapping a bit cringy and the lyrics are somewhat melodramatic in places, but it's a solid album, and there's no denying it's influence on the following decade of pop/rock, for better or worse!

Interesante

It contains that amazing Linkin Park sound but still manages to sound like something you've never heard before Chesters vocals are truly amazing and the lyrics are fantastic

This brings good memories of youth, As i listen, I can see myself and my brother playing PS2 and listening to this. I had not hear this album in full for like 15 years! Good stuff, great energy, lyrics are quite the teenage angst but hey, it is what youth experiences right? Excellent mixing, excellent deliver and man did Bennington could sing. Back then I don’t think even us the teenagers who listened to LP thought they were going to be around for long, not become icons or anything, it was just good novelty but metal, but this record is good and a good timestamp of its times. RIP C.B.

It might surprise people who know me to hear that I’ve never actually listened to this album in full before. The songs I recognise are from radio play, and I hadn’t really ever considered playing the album from front to back. Songs I already know: One Step Closer, Crawling, In The End Favourite after listening: Point Of Authority, Crawling Overall: 8/10 There aren’t really many bands that sound like Linkin Park. Even the other Nu-Metal bands of the time didn’t really sound the same. The distortion of the guitars and the melodies on piano make a beautiful juxtaposition, yet it works perfectly. Similarly, Chester Bennington’s style of singing (some might argue it to be screaming, but I’d argue it to be distorted singing) goes excellently with Mike Shinoda’s rapping. I loved the use of a killswitch in Points of Authority - the music felt like something a wrestler would use to walk into the ring, so appealed to my sillier side. Overall, I’d recommend to anyone with a remote interest in rock/metal.

Genuinely excellent album, full of nostalgia, not like life-changing but seemed to be of it's moment. Meant a lot to a lot of kids. Have memories of mum ironing to it following the divorce. Great, angsty, whingey, teenage - exactly what you want

- First Linkin Park album I've listened to - Enjoyed it much more than I expected - Really consistent - Fav songs: ONE STEP CLOSER, IN THE END, FORGOTTEN

Canzoni da pogo post-apocalittico. Testi rabbiosi ma senza accuratezza, adolescenziali: rabbia contro cosa? Un po' ripetitive.

21st September 2022 Listened mainly while stuck in a traffic jam on the way back from the office. Immediately takes you back to being 13. Pop, rap, metal what a combo.

This album brings back memories of 5th grade.

Middle school days. This album rules. It's the best Linkin Park. It's been memed to death but that just shows its massive appeal to even newer generations. The b sides also kick ass. Meteora also is good but I'll take hybrid any day. This may be the quintessential rap rock album. Thanks boys

Some really classic songs on here

Love this album. Listening to it at 8 in the morning made me want to flip my desk

Powerful, very consistent.

Super nostalgic! Still slaps. Listening to this as an adult is kind of weird and makes me realize just how much I didn’t half of the songs I was listening to.

While not my favourite style, I can appreciate the art, and think it deserves it's place.

Alvöru rokk, flott.

Delightful. Chester is amazing.

Metal and rap collab genius.

It did not age like fine wine, but the hits still stands. I'm hesitating between a 3 and a 4, but the nostalgia factor just won't let me give it less.

Never gonna be a personal fav but I think this album earned 4 stars.

Not for me. That being said you cant deny their catchiness. damn them.

Linkin Park's first and greatest effort, only coming close with their next album Meteora. Tons of hits, melodic yet hard, and somehow are able to maintain the momentum from track to track. You can hear influences of KoRn in songs like "Runaway." The duo vocalists are an incredible combo, characterizing their unique sound and appealing to different audiences that it's no wonder they were so mainstream. I was going to say it's greatest weakness was that it loses its momentum in the last few tracks, but then I realized the last track is actually "Pushing Me Away" which is actually a decent finish right when "Cure for the Itch" chills the mood. I describe the melody as electronic in form, industrial in the types of samples and effects, hip hop in their style of usage, and doom metal in the medium they use to create these effects ("A Place for My Head" being the most metal). What I'm trying to say is that I can understand why most nu metal and post-grunge bands would suck in the coming years if they tried mimicking this style without properly understanding how it's used. The melodies are mostly boring, but there are some iconic themes stuck in my head after 2 decades. Maybe other people interpret it differently, but this style of rock is like nothing else, with the closest analogue being the intensity and heaviness of industrial and thrash or doom metal. Favorites: One Step Closer, Points of Authority, Crawling, In the End

Linkin Park's first album remains their absolute best, and it set a great journey for the subsequent albums as well as the groundwork for their evolution into being a softer band. In a way, listeners got to see a band grow mature from the young and hype-capable to the older and more intentional. Hybrid Theory came at a time when metal/rapcore fatigue started to set in with bands like POD and Limp Bizkit. While with POD, clean lyrics and meaningful messaging were broad in their appeal, their over-exposure up and to their sophomore album with Atlantic wore out the original audience reasonably quickly. Limp Bizkit, even at the height of their popularity, remained 18+ with narrower demographic appeal with a push towards douchebags being loud, giving ballcaps a bad name, to some just weird imagery in their songs. Between all that, Hybrid Theory is released and scratches a certain itch that had been growing. There was a bit of a pendulum swing or crises of identity with listeners in the early aughts between emo and hardcore, two extremes that sort of defined the bipolar nature of 17-19 year olds at the time. Hybrid Theory managed to catch both the aggression and angst giving the people stuck in the middle a stable ground of sorts, which if honesty is the best policy, a very needed element for this crowd. Chester's vocals are a clean scream with lyrics easily understood, and Mike Shinoda's rap contributions are equally clear with a clean delivery. This combination, while not necessarily original was a better marriage between the rock and rap genres than their contemporaries. Musically, the band hit hard where it needed to, and it carefully matched lyrics with its energy. Well-rounded, well-sung, well-rapped, well-played, Hybrid Theory changed the game quite a bit.

recommended on 20th of july - nice

an absolute classic ™

-"One Step Closer" is nice and heavy, very easy to sing along to on your first listen. I also really like the chorus. Maybe it's the alternating lines with long, extended notes and then faster lines? It's cool -"Crawling" has the classic "Crawling in my skin / These sounds, they will not heal" -The vocal distortions on the screams throughout "By Myself" are pretty crazy -"In the End" doesn't really stand out as a track other than the fact I am already very familiar with it. Maybe it's just the most digestible, which made it the most popular track? I'd say I like "One Step Closer" or "Crawling" more. Not a bad song, just not sure why it's the mega-popular one over the others -Big heavy intro in "A Place for My Head" -Basically all solid tracks. Keeps great energy throughout without getting boring. Lots of fun riffs and vocal melodies. Solid album

I tried so hard and got so farrrrr

4.5/5 good album <3

Didn’t age as well as I thought but still really fun. Guitars were way more present and heavier than I remembered.

Great Album. I used to listen to this all the time when it came out. Now, 22 years later, Some of the songs, I don't remember, but there are some real classics here: In the End, Papercut, One Step Closer, Crawling, My December. 4/5

Started out as a three but it grew on me. How could it not? Just some angry boys having fun. Kind of like a low rent Rage Against the Machine.

Reminds me of junior high!

What the hell is this? Turntable scratching, power guitar, electronica, rapping, piano, and lots and lots of screaming. Do I like it? I think I do... Wild.

'In the end'

Linkin Park is one of those bands that I wouldn't necessarily seek out listening to their music, but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on either. At the time this album came out, Linkin Park was everywhere. Their songs were on the radio non-stop. So as someone who listened to a lot of radio in 2000, I heard the hit songs on this album a lot. This is one of those albums that it's impressive that it was their debut album and the songs were basically songs that they had on their demo tape that they were using to shop around their music to all the labels. All of their songs sound pretty similar, in my opinion, so I'm not sure I'd want to just sit and listen to this whole album again, but definitely some great songs and big hits on it!

It’s a great listen but couldn’t help but think some of it started to sound a bit repetitive. 7/10

Linkin Park's debut is packed with so many bangers that dominated the radio when I was a youth. "In The End", "Papercut", "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "Points Of Authority" all take me back to my childhood and I can still have a great time with them today. The choruses are all anthemic. The lyrics are full of angst and are rather juvenile, but vocalist Chester Bennington has a strong voice and can deliver his words powerfully enough that you can be distracted from how juvenile they really are. A weaker frontperson delivering those lyrics would expose them for how childish they are. The record sounds too clean for a heavy album, as if it was scrubbed off any grit to ensure that it can be enjoyed by listeners who have yet to dip their toes in heavier music. This strategy clearly worked as I remember Linkin Park being loved by people who wouldn't dare touch anything rock-adjacent. I find it incredibly hard to look at this record objectively. This was released around the same time I started getting into music. While I can admit that a lot of those nu-metal bands haven't stood the test of time, I have a fondness for Linkin Park despite its flaws.

I don’t know. Basically the energy is great. But the formula gets old.

Some of the songs felt properly busy, but enjoyed it on the whole

Hey my shitty lyrics can mean something if I scream. 3/5

Dia de rock bebe

and he meant all of that

genuinely a pleasant surprise. i was expecting to hate this but it's a good mix of electronic, rap, and heavy music that never felt overbearing or too cringy. a lot of it blended together and was hard to stand out between songs, but it was a great whole album listen regardless. i could def see it growin on me. L7.

This must have been really deep for teenagers in 2000 after waiting 24 hours for this album to download with some viruses from Limewire on the family computer

Didn't realize this was their first album. It sound like Linkin Park, not sure what else to say. It's fine. In the End is a classic.

couple of real bangers on this pure classics of the area

This album is a really good representation of nu metal cause it has everything I like and dislike. The record scratching and hip hop inspired approach to instruments is fucking hype. The rapping, not so much. Mike Shinoda might just make every song worse.

Rock, pretty good

I hate most nu metal. I think that most of it sounds like white trash music .their are a few good artists from this shit genre, Linkin Park being one of them.

i loved this album growing up! favs: papercut one step closer crawling runaway by myself in the end a place for my head rating 2.9/5

This has never been my kind of music but I tried to give it a shot. Some of the lyrical content is really good (some of it is very much not), but the textures of this genre are just kind of off-putting for me. Very solid on its own terms, just not for me.

Not the right time for this

Wow lots of emotions. He-emo.

Ts was tuff

I have never really sat down and listened to Linkin Park, and while many of the songs on this album are familiar to me, I wasn’t alive during the nu-metal trend in the early 2000s, so while I certainly know who they are, I can't say I had much of an opinion on Linkin Park so was excited to listen to this. It is a lot more pop than I was expecting, I think I lump them into the nu-metal group with Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock, and while they share some stylistic elements, Linkin Park is far more polished and pop forward than either of those acts. I enjoyed the music generally, and like the electronica elements a lot, but the level of pop production and song structure just feels so disconnected with the lyrical content (which is sometimes cringy levels of juvenile) like a depressed teenager has been forced to attend a very upbeat dance party. So, yeah, it was much more musically interesting than I expected, but still probably not really for me. Love the cover though, it's a high 3.

TBD for this weekend listen

Music to hate your parents to. You're not even my real Dad!!!!

I remember listening to this while playing GTA 3 on PS2.

I bet these are really fun to play on drums.

Better than I was expecting. I'm not much of a fan of either metal or rap, but somehow Linkin Park manages to pull it off.

I'm with you if we're saying Linkin Park is a band you should listen to before you die. With my limited knowledge of their songs, I could understand their debut being the best recommendation. This still feels underneath what I expect a must-listen album to be. This is the forefront of the nu metal scene, some of the more commercially successful stuff, and it does have a couple of songs that I *love* singing along to. The album itself, I can live without. The rap aspect isn't the best or most polished, it just contrasts interesting with the "hard" rock. The production was wise to put thought into the singing vocals, it really pushes the overall sound past radio-friendly and onto the peak recognition the effort still displays. Two listens was enough for me today, out of respect for a band I don't hate. A bit of a let down. 2.9/5

Linkin Park? More like... Stinkin' Fart... but one of my own, because it's a guilty pleasure to huff it every so often.

Holy shit I didn’t realize how cringe this rap rock nu metal, whatever you want to call it would be as I age. I immediately got PTSTD to playing with bionicles here. Yet another prime example of a product of its time that I just don’t need to revisit. It starts off okay and honestly isn’t that bad the first half. However there’s no fuckin way you’re paying me to bump this entire thing again. It’s not that the music itself is outright ass, it’s just TOO teenage edgy it makes me cringe to imagine listening to in the car with my windows down.

I really should have enjoyed this more but something felt off. It's properly in my wheelhouse but something just felt missing.

Te amo in the end

This shit went HARD when I was 10 years old.

On the list of great debut albums. It's hard to hear this and give it a fair review after if has gotten so much exposure. For a vibe and something for people to listen to when they're young it's pretty solid. Beyond that, I've got a lot of notes. Sure toss it on the list. It's not a masterpiece but it does have some uniqueness and was pretty genre defining when it hit.

Another album that was so burned into the fabric of reality for a time that it becomes so hard to even process it. It belongs on a list like this for sure. At least it isn't another british newave album from the 1980s. It is not a type of music that grows with the listener. As far as music for teenagers goes, it has some interesting stuff going on sonically. As far as being an ALBUM goes it's like a 4, but for me it's a 3.

a classic from childhood.

Started the fed better than expected, but it was too much of the same thing all the way through which lost my interest

The next time I ask myself why pop girlies such as Billie Eilish sing so quiet, I will consider this album as a solid example of why. So loud. Better than I expected but I hesitate to go as far as to say "good".

Such a classic album

Objectively a really cool moment for the genre but I prefer albums where men don’t yell at me (sorry)

Weirdly enjoyable, kept making me think of Lonely Island though

Chester Bennington really saves this album. The rapping is not great and the heavy riffs are kinda generic. That said, I can appreciate the ingenuity, they weren’t the first to tackle rap/rock but the layering of all the things keeps it interesting. Also Chester’s voice is amazing, dude had incredible range and he adds a layer of soul to these songs which is great because they would be pretty standard Nu-metal without that.

This takes me back when they were the hottest thing with a new fusion sound. It was a fun trick down memory lane.

Ihan jees, suurin osa aika turhia, in the end kärrää isosti

Sounds like high school, I remember way more of this album than I'd care to admit

Good, not great. Some tracks definitely haven’t aged too well

Decent production. The contrasting vocal styles are neat, but it gets a bit tired by the end of the tracklist. Not sure how to describe it overall, but maybe a tad cold? Good performances though. 3.0/5.0

like parts

Not sure why/how this is supposed to be such a big deal and album. Feels a softer nu metal although I’m probably not their target audience. For the youth I get it and there are a few big pop catchy tunes on here. First proper listen got through it. 3/5.

This album is not my thing at all, but it has been fun, at least at some points. Would I listen to it again? Surely not, at least not because I choose to. But it has been a nice listening. This kind of rap mixed with rock (or the rap-rock genre in general) sounds too insipid for me, maybe because I don't like (most of) rap to begin with. But this mixture with nu-metal touches has been at some moments interesting, and this album does not sound bad either. It's pretty pop for me, paradoxically. In this sense, I have mixed feelings because it sounds pretty mainstream and formulaic, and some parts are actually even embarrassing, which is something that pushes me off, but at the same time I can find something that I "kind of" like. So, even if I don't think I will ever voluntarily listen to any song off this record again, it's been a good time listening to it.

Rap meets rock in one of the most famed albums of the 2000s. This is an album that I would have/did like as a teenager, but in 2026 I feel I have outgrown this. Still, this is from an era where it looked like rap-rock fusion might be taking off and joining the mainstream; and frankly, I am quite happy it didn't really...

What a time to be alive), de definerte nærmest en sjanger. LP har aldri vært for meg, men de får en respektfull treer for innsatsen.

Teenage me loved this. Adult me has outgrown it. If I want angsty nu metal I'll just listen to Slipknot.

Enjoyed it overall.

Clearly a cut above their nu-metal contemporaries, in that they sound like someone I can mostly take seriously, and in that they're capable of writing memorable songs. But possibly the best thing about Hybrid Theory is that it's like the only nu metal album where they're willing to keep it to a normal length!

some really good instrumentals, this would have been a brilliant listen if it wasnt for that ridiculous rap style vocals.

This is a tough one.

Liked it more than I expected, but sounded kind of “same same” by the end. I doubt I will listen to it again.

I love this album. I also can't justify giving it a high score since it's such a product of its time. Typically I would hate the 2000s nut metal rap rock with the crime to the guitar commited here. Yet, I grew up in the Linkin Park era and I can't escape the nostalgia. So here we are.

DylP lwk ruined my listening experience. Overall it was alright but nothing mind blowing.

'in the end' iconic, but just not my cup of tea as a genre. Good workout songs though.

Very good.

Every song on this album is incredibly silly.

Great rap metal album in the footsteps of Anthrax etc

Canciones que más me gustaron: - In the End - A Place for My Head - Forgotten

Was better than expected. Linkin Park have never been my jam. Very corny (not a bad thing). Big meaty guitar riffs. Every song would have made a good WWE Wrestling theme.

I like rap guy voice. I like nice singing guy voice. I don't care for angry yelling guy voice screaming at me so much.

Angst but grew on me

In the end!

Oh wow. Here we are. This album is of course simultaneously absolute garbage and amazing. No idea how to rate it. I think I'll go 3 on pure nostaliga

Actually listening to it, I think it's very much of it's age. It feels like there's no modern update.

A lot of hits but not really my thing

Not bad, not great but not bad

Ok so. i gave this one a try after peer pressured by my friends who have a slightly different taste than i. i did not like it. but it’s alright. im just simply not into nu metal.

Singing was good. The rapping was a little corny. The instrumentals are fine. I'm partial to them because I like rock, but they aren't anything special. It's a shame that this is on the list instead of "Meteora", which is basically just a superior version of "Hybrid Theory".

I liked it a lot but I don’t think this will ever be my favorite genre.

One step closer: earlier Nu metal vibes a la KoRn, i dont mind it actually. points of authority: cheesy lyrics and rhymes- chorus kind of reminds me of Disturbed? instrumentals not really grabbing my attention either. crawling: Had heard this one before, the chorus is pretty memorable at least. I feel like the songs keep using the same kind of recipe, similar themed lyrics, the vocal performances, guitar riffs etc, there is nothing new as the album progresses in the end: the second track i recognized from the album. overplayed of course, but it has its charm. a place for my head: finally we get a vibe switch from the previous songs. more aggressive rap-metal forgotten: forgot it already cure for the itch: instrumental track full of breakbeats and scratching. beastie boys meets deltron and moby- like synths in the back. Also one of the highlights for me album closer a bit of a lowlight, in one ear out the other 3/5 - A pretty mediocre album without any offensively bad tracks. Dont see myself returning to it.

I have heard this album 100s of times but have not listened to it in 20.years. I enjoyed it more than i thought i would. Well made and well produced pop music with guitars and sometimes rapping. This doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

This was a pretty important album for nu metal and rap rock, and did a lot to popularize those sounds. There are some all-time great tracks on this record, but there are also a few that seem to just be noise for the sake of noise. Overall this a good listen and worth hearing, but is not the best album I've heard.

Definitely their peak Massive cultural phenomenon of an album I don't think it aged well about a year after it came out, but in the time since it's fine, I wouldn't put it on by choice, I did a few years ago and got a little bit bored in the end. Papercut, pushing me away, forgotten, are the highlights.. Ill go 3. But you couldn't pay me to listen to their later albums, but I am willing to take offers

Yes, it’s juvenile and embarrassing, but it’s about things that are innately juvenile and embarrassing, and you can’t deny that Chester Bennington meant it. It’s catchy and it’s over pretty fast, which helps. The rapping is God-awful. Best track: “Forgotten”

Some songs were ok.

I liked this way more than I expected to. I didn't realize they actually have ballads. My inner 13-year-old enjoyed this album a lot.

Felt a little samey to me but they were all enjoyable

Some good ones on here, some not so good. Light 3

I was debating whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. Maybe I would rate it 3.5 stars, but I'm not going to round up, it just doesn't fit with the albums I give 4 stars. If I consider the album's purpose, which is angry music for angry teens, it serves that role very well. From a more critical perspective, it just doesn't have much depth. It's a fun and enjoyable listen, though a bit one-dimensional. It's still an album that has reached legendary status.

6 - AVERAGE

Meus gostos mudaram demais desde a minha pré-adolescência. 3.5

They have some solid tunes, this is not the album I would have chosen for this list

Was never a fan of Mike Shinoda’s delivery. Still not. It just doesn’t work at all for me. Chester is an incredibly strong vocalist but Mike is not a very good rapper. The big singles are still fine. I actually enjoy In the End now in a “i will go a little bit in if it’s on with friends” kind of way.

A bit teen angst rock, but enjoyable

This one way surprisingly good!

If you asked me what I thought I would rate this before listening I would've said 5. Chester had a fantastic voice and I've always enjoyed Mike Shinoda's solo work too. That said this was kind of tough to listen to as an album. I think individually these songs are good but I was counting the minutes waiting for it to end.

This is so vaguely familiar and nostalgic, as I don't remember listening to Linkin Park before. It reminds me of the pop-rock radio stations I grew up listening to as a kid. Based on the consensus I online, the nu/rap metal genre is seen as the 2000s version of glam metal. I kinda agree with that for this record. It touches on dark themes that don't really go far/become too universal, in addition to how each song is very similar to the last. Nevertheless, being "nu" to nu metal, I do like some of the sound and production here (3.5).

Edgy teenager vibes

Variety: 2 Adequacy: 4 Listenability: 4 Uniqueness: 2 Emotionality: 5 = 3.4 rounded down to 3 "Full of broken thoughts/ I cannot repair" INTRO I was certainly aware of Linkin Park through the radio, but the band came around at a time I was retreating from new popular music. And while I've never considered myself to be particularly snobby, I did mostly avoid anyone with the "stink" of nu-metal/ rap-metal on them ( though I had enjoyed some stuff before like Korn). Knowing next to nothing about the band other than they were often lumped in with Limp Bizkit ( who I did not care for) brought my interest levels to less than zero. Over the years I've continued to hear the few radio hits replayed, and very recently have found myself listening to them quite a bit as I now have a middle-schooler who is a big fan. Have to say while they will likely never make it closer to my top 10, I have a new found appreciation for them at least, having heard a few of the deep cuts that seem to stand up with the radio hits. Looking forward to this one. THE TRACKS "Papercut" - What strikes me immediately with the opener is how much more atmospheric and musical they seem when compared to an act like Limp Bizkit. Less bombastic, and far more introspective. The quiet-loud-quiet dynamics along with the vocal gymnastics sell this one for me. Solid, contemplative angst as opposed to its more confrontational cousin. Makes you not so much want to break some stuff as maybe fume silently on the couch and play some Vice City with this blasting just loud enough to annoy your parents. "One Step Closer" - This is the one I remember hearing the most when it came out. It was striking even back then, but I would have just shaken my head and been like "That's probably their only interesting song." I find myself making more comparisons with a band like Rage Against the Machine here than Limp Bizkit, especially with the "SHUT UP!" with the scratching underneath, but also in that like the former band, Linkin Park seems a bit more serious. I might even go so far as to say they are to mental health and self-analysis what Rage was to politics. Simple and direct enough for a teenager to engage in, while remaining catchy and musically dynamic in all the right ways. Easy to see why this one has endured long enough for my 13 year-old to find it and dig it. "With You" - This is reminding me a bit too much of Limp Bizkit in the beginning and the following verses, but then veers into Korn territory for the chorus. Didn't hit for me like the first two, and felt more dated than either. "Points of Authority" - The dynamic between the delicate and screaming vocals save this one, but otherwise a little uninteresting musically. "Crawling" - This is the other track I remember hearing a lot. Very distinctive opening, and right into the epic sounding scream singing. The electronic beat, the tight modulated vocals and the anthemic loud sections work really well here. His voice never takes the complete turn into whiny emo, which is much appreciated. "Runaway" - More solid stuff here, and some great dips into the deeper range here with some more Korn-ish bass breakdowns. "By Myself" - The talk-rap over the soft section here doesn't gel as well when everything gets big here, like it has in earlier songs. Feeling a bit of whiplash, and there's not a lot to hook me as far as melody goes. Low point of the album so far for me. "In the End" - One that I regularly still hear on the radio. And easy to see why. Great balance of the rap elements and supremely catchy vocal melody. I certainly prefer one part over the other, but they each build off the other and provide plenty of emotion in the transition. We're FAR into mopey territory here, but it never rigs false, which helps sell this as legit. "A Place for My Head"- Bit of a change up here instrumental-wise with a distinctive guitar line behind the verses. Aside from the previous track, maybe the best contrast between Bennington's singing and Shinoda's ( best of the album so far) rapping. This flows right into... "Forgotten" ... where we get a little more of the same, but a lighter touch. Chorus here does not work for me though, and this feels as generic as anything I've heard on here yet. "Cure for the Itch" - Heavy emphasis on the DJ effects starting off on this one. The most hip-hop vibe of anything else, and after the opening it settles into a relatively chill beat and demonstration of Joe Han's ( I assume) turntable skills. The Ringo track. "Pushing Me Away" - Solid closer, but nothing amazing going on here. Seems to stay a little more in the emotional pocket with not as much of the dynamics present throughout the rest of the album. Can't see this being anyone's favorite though. HIGHLIGHTS - "Papercut" - "One Step Closer" - "Crawling" - "Runaway" - "In the End" MIDLIGHTS - "Points of Authority" - "A Place for My Head" - "Cure for the Itch" - "Pushing Me Away" LOWLIGHTS - "With You" - "By Myself" - "Forgotten" FINAL THOUGHTS Overall a very cohesive album, with some above average musicianship and non-abrasive vocals that make me wonder why exactly I avoided listening to this for so long. Lots to like and much more melodic than I expected. That being said, this has never, and will never be my favorite kind of music. Aside from having aged out of the target demographic for it, it's a bit too emotionally raw for me as well. I can see the appeal though, and am open to listening to more to see how/ if they evolve. And would ot rule out revisiting this either. PLAYLIST ALTERATIONS - Probably just hang onto the highlights for now

This is the real Linkin Park, not the "What I've Done" Linkin Park that hit the mainstream in the mid-2000's thanks to Transformers.

Like everyone else in 2000, I got sucked in and played this to the point of wearing it out, but it hasn't aged very well. The singles still go though.

nu-metl, a bit shouty this one

Ate this up as an angsty 14yo, so it was interesting to listen back fully grown. Still sang along to the classics, got a bit bored during the rest, which just sounded like not as good versions of the classics.

Perfect album if you're an angsty 14 year old. Sadly, those days have passed for me. In the End is still a banger though. 3/5 for nostalgia reasons.

i’m sad i wasn’t listening to this while growing up, the lyrics are so 14yo, but that’s it, impossible to comprehend if you’re older than that. the electronic track was fun

Really way more fun that I expected. Probably won't go back too much but was fun energy to work to

This doesn’t sound as revolutionary as I remember.

Well, it sounds like Linkin Park…! Yeah, decent. Of an era.

Not for me but enjoyed it more than I thought

Came in skeptical, leaving mostly neutral. ‘In the End’ holds up, the DJ scratches are a nice touch, and Chester could genuinely sing. But the formula runs out of ideas before the album does. Solid 3.

I used to make fun of this music and everyone who use to listen to it. As I get older I can appreciate some of the instrumentation, it was unique and very stylized. Lyrics are still angsty as fuck and written for losers with main character energy.

Top : By Myself Flop : Cure for the Itch

This being Linkin Park’s debut album, with such a distinct hard rock sound was honestly a little bold. Like this album sounds like the times, but was likely one of the first to sound this way. To me this album sounds futuristic dystopian. Hate ranking these out of 5 because it’s objectively a solid album, but also not entirely my taste.

linkin park só me lembra tv união, logo, bom demais. 3,5.

This flippin' ripped in 4th form.

Rip Chester one of the best vocalists ever

A full album of this angst is quite a lot. It can't be denied though that there are some incredible songs here.

i can feel the side part coming back to my hair

It was tough to put a number on this one, but ultimately I'm settling on a 3. Despite my tirade against nu metal in my review of Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water a few days ago, this one didn't really grate on me musically like that one did, with the riffs remaining interesting throughout instead of devolving into a muddy ooze. Lyrically, it's pretty bog-standard nu metal stuff, but it at least avoids the infantile shit Fred Durst was penning, and even with the memeworthy status of some songs like Crawling and In the End, I do genuinely believe there's real pain behind Chester Bennington's lyrics and delivery. It also has the incalculable advantage of being only half as long as Chocolate Starfish!!! The album was over by the time I was starting to get a bit weary of the sound. Overall, this album shows off what nu metal is capable of a lot better than Slipknot or Chocolate Starfish did, and I will maintain that In the End is a genuinely great song. Not entirely for me, but enough for a solid 6/10.

Not my favorite Linkin Park but still p good

While Linkin Park is one of my preferred to come out of the Nu-Metal genre. This album isn't as good as their later work.

I feel like I'm back in 2003 with my sister blasting this as she was going though her edgy middle/high school phase. Fun fact, the album Bella from Twilight is thought to be listening to is this album. She listens to it over and over again in an angst filled rage as she is trying to not think about Edward, who is avoiding her. She deconstructs it until she finally falls asleep. I think that encapsulates exactly what type of nu-metal this is - so accessible that it appears as an "edgy" moment in a vampire romance book. That is to say, I think tween/teens can really identify with this music because everything about it screams melodramatic and has big feelings that only puberty can really bring out. When everything that happens both positive and especially negative feels like the biggest thing that will ever happen to you. I think that this album is one that you kind of have to be in that age group to really see and feel the merits of when you first listen to it, otherwise I think it's hard to put yourself into that mindset. I wasn't much of a nu-metal fan, though there were a few times I angrily put on a couple of songs when I was going through a bad day. 3/5 because I can really see why this became popular, but it's just not my personal taste. I would say .5 of that is personal nostalgia of listening to it with my sister, and those moments where the worst thing that could happen to you was you had a breakout that wouldn't clear up and your crush was into someone else. Now I have bills.
