Reviews (page 12 of 13)

I know it’s classic punk but wow it’s a lot of screaming.

Never been a huge fan.

It's an iconic album of course, but i wouldn't listen to it again voluntarily. 2 or 4

I know that Sex Pistols were huge 50 years ago but I've never been a huge fan of that kind of music that sounds slightly generic and the songs sound very similar. It was alright having this album playing in the background, and it was a fairly short one, but I wouldn't listen to it on purpose.

not my favorite. Loud, noise, scary. Mom can you come pick me up? Kids are drinking alcohol.

Its aight, I'm not a big punk guy and I hate the british

trop de bruit, ça me gave

Love punk, and I know this might be sacrilegious but this was kinda repetitive and not great

My first time listening to a Sex Pistols album, I've really only heard the hits. There were a few highlights on this one for me, but I'm not sure I would set out to listen again.

Again, 70's punk is my Marvel Universe. I eat up the lore around these bands. To be honest, Sex Pistols were not my favorite musically (New York Dolls and Richard Hell were wearing safety pins first and more interesting musically). But without Sex Pistols, we wouldn't have the Buzzcocks, Joy Division, the Fall, the Smiths etc. etc.

Not my kind of thing. A bit shouty and harsh

I have a special place in my heart for this CD, but it is simply not very good. Sex Pistols are like a 10/10 for enthusiasm and a 1/10 for ability. Rotten just straight-up can't sing, and even the fairly simple instrumental parts on this CD tend to strain the limits of what the other members can accomplish. I had forgotten this since my last listen, but there's actually a guitar solo on "God Save the Queen" at about the 2-minute mark - or you can kinda tell it's supposed to be a guitar solo if you listen closely, but I just imagine whichever poor Pistol was assigned guitar as his instrument shaking and sweating buckets at the stress of having to pull it off. Most of the songs are, let's just be honest, they're terrible. If you're not naturally inclined to think the stuff they're singing about is cool just in and of itself (a criteria which would disqualify "God Save The Queen" and "Anarchy in the U.K."), likely the only enjoyable song is the opener, which really is a pretty good song (and really doesn't try to do too much, it leans on that one good riff like it's life depends on it). But that leaves another 35 minutes of essentially filler, and filler it is - most of the deep cuts are borderline-unlistenable. This gets the 2nd star for something like "lifetime achievement".

I'm exhausted and slightly offended.

Just don’t like this genre, understand this was apparently a pivotal album but was relieved when it ended.

Never Mind The Sex Pistols, Here's The Bollocks

too rock, annoying

It's honestly surprising to think any of this was considered controversial upon release. Even back then, the content is pretty standard anti-authoritarian fare and considering Rotten's irl views now, this all rings as hollow.

I like some of it, but there's just better punk albums to listen to I think. Whole album is very much the same. Also I don't know if I buy the punk act after reading about them some more, seems like commercial punk a bit

Without the Sex Pistols we never would have rhymed anarchist with antichrist. Sod off.

Best Song: Anarchy in the UK Worst Song: Liar

Not a particularly pleasant listen but I can see myself having been into it as an angsty teen

I found the songs pretty juvenile and most songs sounded exactly the same

They have an audience, but I’m not in it. Sorry, fellas. Keep being punky.

The Sex Pistols are just a manufactured commercial punk group. Not real punk in any way. Mediocre at best.

I’ve mentioned I don’t like punk. I can certainly hear that this must have been influential but I hope I don’t have to listen to it again.

Aggressive, dissonant, early pop punk with a raunchy edge and the same drum fills throughout the album.

It's hard to never mind when the whole record is bollocks.

Not a good choice for me, especially first thing in the am. Their music could be fun in a club back in the day but now just headache inducing.

Can't really stand the vocals and sloppiness and buy into the hype around this album. Submission and Pretty Vacant weren't terrible and Anarchy was ok. I've heard Anarchy and God Save the Queen before. 2 star for sure for me.

Not a fan of Punk, whether it's British or American (or any other nationality, for that matter). I think having heard "Anarchy in the UK" and "God Save the Queen" a number of times in movies or TV shows has made me not mind them so much. The rest of it was a hard list. 2 stars.

Punky real world against the system type beat but British

Honestly this one grew on me, not that bad, the clash are better still but, its fine

punk rock

Given the production tricks at play here, I'm not terribly surprised that alcohol plays such a big role in the Sex Pistols story. Or, in other words: it's easy to be sniffy about cultural icons preceding one's reference point, not just after. Either way, this leaves me cold.

The riffs are dirty, but god saves the queen is cult so it deserves one more star than nothing

Not for me.

Some hits but all sounds the same to me.

First time actually giving this a spin, and probably the last time. Rough. None of the flow of the Ramones.

REA son REA SON finds no geil s erste. sehr schön hässig aber het au power. de johnny rotten isch jetz glaub en riese wichser aber sie hend huere gwüsst wiemer provoziert. god save the queen slappt ebe. mega smart zum de song so nenne und denn als zweite satz "and her fascist regime" haa. finds echt s fitzt no ane. d sex pistols sind afoch es produkt vomne guy? und hend de branson gross gmacht? heavy. proooblem prooblem. jo nöd de best song. es goht so hert nöd umd musig bise sex pistols, es isch afoch für 1978 sehr politisch sehr aggressiv und so. aber d story rund um d band isch viel cooler. de bassist het nöd mol chöne bass spiele. faszinierend. nöd e guets album aber chranki sieche. so schnell wieder usbrennt. so viel droge.

Not my jam.

God save the queen

very meh

Not for me.

A little too aggressive and repetitive for me - just not my thing.

This was a bit better than I expected it to be, but didn’t really care for it.

Thought I would hate this, but it’s just okay!

I thought I liked punk

Another sigher. Shouty songs with silly lyrics and poorly played riffs. A fuck you to convention of the time. It’s so hard to be credible as Punk and these dudes were a disheveled boy band… Contrived dissent for profit? Every artist from 1985 when trying to be edgy pays homage to them so I guess that’s their legacy. Whoopee If Punk is just a fashion statement these guys are the OGs but if it’s a sound or a movement they are the veneer. Authenticity counts

I was a punk before you were.

# 285 : I get that this one of the most influential albums of all time, but it sounds f-ing terrible, More energy then talent. I see why it was there only album... If I have to Pick a fave : God Save The Queen

Yeah, I didn't like it very much. The instrumentals in some songs sound actually powerful and "rebellious?", especially the guitars but I couldn't stand the vocals one bit and there's practically no bass to be heard in 99% of the songs (it's fucking Sid Vicious, of course). Yeah it's influential blah blah blah, but it's definitely not something made for me.

Definitely not my genre, but god this album is energy. I wasn’t alive in that time, but get why this album was controversial and now so iconic. It’s punk

That’s angry 70s punk alright - rotten and viscous. Better now than it was back then, but still rotten and viscous, and still overrated. Album title, God Save The Queen, and Johnny’s sneer got this one on the list. This album got the Brits up in a twist when it dropped, not as much over here. (2.4*s)

It's hard for me to appreciate Sex Pistols as I don't know much about them. I always hear they were hugely influential and an iconic British punk act but I can't tell you anything about their music. This album is a decent British punk rock album on the surface level. I'm sure it so much more than that but that is about the only way I can take this one in. Decent album, nothing special, hard for me to tell the difference between any of the songs. 2.37 stars

Why is there so much punk? I'm tired, pops.

Very British..not my style but some good tracks

Sex Pistols fall into that category of “I understand their influence, and why they need to be talked about in regards to music history”, but I’m honestly not a huge fan. A lot of these songs just sound so familiar from one to the next. I think the lyrics are the best part, but John Lyndon’s voice just doesn’t cut it for me.

Ahh maybe we’ve just had too much Brit rock but I just wasn’t into this. It was good though and I know the Sex Pistols are supposed to be important but ya

I can see where this was probably pretty influential, and I love the idea of punk. I want to love it conceptually, but I guess I just don't love the actual sound of it. Vocals are too grating and overall find it kind of repetitive.

The songs were too repetitive and negative, using phrases like 'the problem is you,' 'liar,' 'there is no future',etc. The singer sounded more like he was talking than signing. The guitar overpowered the vocals on some songs. Not for me.

I listened to this album extensively as a teenager, as an adult it doesn't hold up as a great album.

Poor sound quality (assuming a sign of the times) made this album difficult to listen to. Sound is tinny which caused me to consistently reach for the volume dial and turn it down.

Maybe 10-15 years ago I would have felt differently about this album; as I initially bought the CD around that time. But I think this doesn't deserve more than two stars as I listen to it again in my 30s. Maybe it's because my tastes have changed throughout the years.

Shouting out the obvious won't make it any less commonplace. I imagine, however, that it was less so in its time and context. What's more, Sid Vicious used to beat up his girlfriend, making him a fairly well-integrated member of British society. "Die, little bab-oy" He was a kid and he won't get to be anything else at least What do you mean he's not the only one on the band? Now I can admit: I truly adore the track "No Feelings" 2 because I like 2 of those tracks but it's a secret

I know this is sacrilegious, but this album is not that great. Bunch of angry kids trying to get attention by saying extreme things and making themselves sound very stupid. Mostly image focused and little attention to substance.

I feel like I've grown out of this type of punk.

I'm a bit conflicted here. On one side, it's a monumental piece of music history and the energy is just crazy. On the other, I don't really enjoy listening to it anymore. It was ok when I was doing some cleaning around the house but having it on made feel like an old fart these guys would hate. I also found their English accent and pronunciation rather funny than rebellious. 2.5/5 marked as 2 because I can't see myself going back to it voluntarily.

It‘s punk… no more and no less

I mean iconic but meh. Pretty vacant still slaps.

I've felt that the Sex Pistols have been long overhyped as a punk group. Their very formation resulted from manager Malcolm McLaren getting involved, which comes off as against the DIY understanding of punk music. I understand that for many people starting to get into punk music, the Sex Pistols may come off as a gateway band, not unlike the Ramones or the Clash. That notion has some merit, given how tuneful the band's song construction can be. Steve Jones came up with some catchy guitar riffs, while Glen Matlock, Sid Vicious, and Paul Cook were competent in the rhythm section. There is a backbone to this album. But that brings us to Johnny Rotten. McLaren picked Johnny as the vocalist for the group simply because he looked like trash, which was the image he had in mind for the group. Well, he didn't just look the part; he is trash. Johnny is such an irritable vocalist. There have been far better vocalists out there who can better snarl and have actual conviction than Johnny ever could. As for the lyrics, most songs tend to be pretty generic and try to be shocking or provoking for the time, and yes that includes the likes of the singles "Holidays in the Sun", "Anarchy in the U.K.", "God Save the Queen" and "Pretty Vacant." The one exception to this is track two "Bodies", which is an anti-abortion song that is absolutely disgusting. Hearing lines like "Dragged on a table in a factory" and "Throbbing squirm/Gurgling bloody mess" in the song's context makes my stomach churn, and I've listened to grindcore. I get why this album was included on the list. I also get why it can be considered influential. But holy shit, it's not good. Check out the singles if you are curious, but that's the best I can offer.

Nice recording quality and decent performances, musically speaking, but sounded kinda like one long song, without much inflection or complexity or interest. Two stars.

Disappointing

shaking my head disapprovingly while i listen to this so that everyone looking at my scrobbles knows that my hand has been forced

This is yet another case of: Was it influential? Yes. Game changing? Probably, at the time. Good? Not really.

The 1970s British monarchy was never a time or place for me. The anger is very apparent and I think appealed to the youth of the time and I bet the parents were terrified of it. Musically for me it pretty bad. I don’t like the “singing” style and every sone sounds pretty much the same. Very weak guitar and mostly just annoying. I get the influence it had on the youth and punk music but something I can not relate to at all.

Angsty British teens kinda goes down with a thud for me. Anarchy tends to put less advantaged people at risk, so this just reads as selfish these days.

A thick British accent combined with horrendous sound mixing leaves 80% of this album unintelligible

I love punk rock and I think it's a very punk thing to recognize that the Sex Pistols were overrated posers

no dudo q sean buenos, y el genero n general, pero como no es mi estilo, no le veo nada mas alla

Never really listened to them too much, but have enjoyed a few of the Punk era albums I've had. This doesn't hold up to them. Prefer PIL, Iggy, or The Fall.

I almost like Liar, God Save the Queen

kinda annoying, sex pistols aren't for me

This was a bit noisy for me. I don’t know what constitutes good noisy music but I don’t think this was it. It wasn’t painful to listen to but wasn’t my thing. 5/10

Ok I listened while driving so didn’t pay super close attention. But from what I heard it was Just more rock and roll. The Wikipedia mentions his “half-singing” explicitly. Did not bode well. Not a fan. 5/10

4/10 - Birmingham mentioned +1 Lots of screaming -2. Overall not my ideal type of music. It was not terrible but not too good in my opinion. I know why God Save the Queen and Anarchy In the UK are the most popular they were the best songs.

Oh goody goody how exciting another British band. The songs all sound the same, no favourites because nothing really stood out. Not the worst but not very good. Im in a hater mood right now so 2/5, sorry Mr. Pistols

Bro lowkey this album is doodoo because I was so excited to listen to it because I loveee punk rock except then it was just a mid british man fuck you johhny rotten 🖕🖕anyway like i suppose the album was overall okay it just did NOT meet expectations and after a while his voice starts becoming grating and it sounds like he's barely even singing the whole time. people will be like "music used to be so much better" and then this is what they listen to. brother where is the musicality or the singing or the lyricism or literally anything. i just can't stand this type of album where it literally has nothing going for it. i was originally gonna rate it a 3 but now im mad so fuck you 2/5. favourites were when it ended and i got to go listen to good british rock (nothing but thieves).

Look it wasn’t the worst album but I felt all of the lyrics and songs quite repetitive. On top of that I could barely understand what they were actually singing about as most of the lyrics are half yelled, drowned by the other instruments and slurred. Eh

I love a good old anarchist anthem. Very samesy despite the instruments being really good. 2.5 just for vibes, that’s just me though

A slightly higher-rated punk album than I'd normally give a punk album, but only because of familiarity with 2-3 tracks

I understand this was a pivotal moment in music history but I’m not a fan!

Een beetje duistere punk-rock. Ik vind het niet heel erg aangenaam. **

Every song sounds the same and that's not a good thing. Without sounding too pretentious, this is music for morons.

I've got into more punk just recently but I feel like this is just one of those punk bands that aren't my cuppa… and some of the lyrics (new york) ugh… not fresh

I'm trying to like it

I really do NOT understand some of these choices. There are so many better albums out there. Well to be honest there are only a few albums out there where all of the songs can be considered good.

vocal just hurts my ears and head every song sounds the same influental tho Significant 46/141 Liked 21/141 Added 6/141 YNN

This was an alright album, but it didn't really resonate with me. I found it difficult to differentiate between songs, as they all sounded very similar. At one point I finally realized I had listened to the album almost twice through on repeat. Not terrible, not great, just decent.

This album keeps up an unrelenting rebellious attitude for its entire duration. The lead vocalist's voice is well-suited to this punk rock style of music, but is grating to hear for 40 minutes straight. My main gripe with the album is the lack of variety -- no one track stood out enough from any of the others.

There was a moment in my life that I really liked the Sex Pistols. Their style and attitude were attractive to a jaded teen. Now I can’t get past their corny lyrics. The attitude still works, but far better punk bands have come along since this made waves. 2.5/5

Not as good as expected

Not my style

Very punky, but not overly harsh

Some decent syuff but too simple for me personally.

2.5. Idk, fake punk that’s super samey and shallow and now the lead singer is a conservative twat. How lame. Important at the time and I’m not gonna pretend there’s not a couple fun songs, but not really into it.

I think I'd rather have the bollocks. I've generally preferred the more underground britpunk albums. I recognised Anarchy In The U.K. and Pretty Vacant. Stand-out: Liar

I heard of this group but can't recall any of their songs. Guy is talking and/or yelling. It is not singing. Pre-rap?

I can see why this was important but I found it very unpleasant and grating to listen to

This suffered from following the day after the Buzzcocks, which seemed a higher tier of 70s punk.

I can see why the band broke up not long after.

meh. guitar is nice, but after about 3 songs with the sing/talk/shout pattern, I'm good

Meh. Too much yelling. Good thing they knew power chords or there would be no guitar. Metronome must have been stuck at 120 BPM

This album by the Sex Pistols was a pleasant surprise. I am not a big Punk Rock fan but I have heard of the Sex Pistols. However, I never really listened to them back in the day. Still not a favorite but better than expected.

Not my thing. I can't help but imagine these guys in their old age screaming "Get of my lawn" to the current day anarchists/protestors.

I didn't understand the attraction to the Sex Pistols back in the 80's. 2024, nothing has changed. I tried really hard to like the music, but couldn't wait for the album to end. +1 star for not making the album longer!

uhhh ok lang pero baka wala ako sa mood

A good album. Rotten's vocals are iconic and elevate the simple music. different than Ramones. Not as good.

Helt ok men lite monotont

It was ok. The album itself felt a bit too same-y

Definitely a landmark album but I just don't appreciate the head-banger noise like I did as a youth.

Punk is not my cup of tea at all but only because SP had a great influence and since this album emerged as a gate into a deeper sub genre of punk it deserves 2 stars

Started the punk revolution. But, once again, not my cup of tea. Get it? English band…. Cup of tea.😀

It’s cool. I get it. I wouldn’t listen again.

I was too young for punk and so everything I know is academic and in hindsight. If punk was designed to exploit anger and shake up the system it was very good at it. The music here is pretty basic but gets across what it needs to achieve. There are 4 hits. Holiday in the Sun, Anarchy in the UK , God Save the Queen and Pretty Vacant. Pop songs with punk lyrics and production. They are rubbish but singalong rubbish that will go down as genre defining. The remainder is interesting for Johnny Rotten’ cathartic lyrics. Which are beyond disturbed. Bodies is the most distrurbed and depressing of them. It’s a subject matter that should never have been approached and certainly not in the way Rotten did. Yes he was angry but he needed therapy not exploitation. Not a record for New Years Day. I know it’s important but I can only give it 2 stars.

Sometimes when I listen to music from this list it's been many years since I've heard the album and I get nuance I didn't get when I was younger. This sounds exactly like I remember. I guess I don't actively hate it...

1/1001 did not enjoy this.

Jeder Titel klingt wie der zuvor. Laut, immer der gleiche Takt, gleiche Gitarre und Gesang.

I'm not a big punk fan but thought this was pretty good. Aside from Anarchy, a little one-note honestly. Surprised how it seemed so squarely aimed at school kids. I've been enjoying punk a bit more as I get older, but Bollocks won't be the album that converts me.

Unfortunately I was never a fan of the sex pistols. This wasn't terrible but it did start to get on my nerves pretty quickly. I realized halfway through listening to this that despite this coming out nearly 50 years ago this is the first year that the lyrics of God Save The Queen has been outdated. A 2 for me.

Wild that this is the best they could do before like 3 of them died or whatever

overrated pap

Not the one

English Punk, not for me.

Favorite track God save the queen

I like: God Save The Queen

Of historical significance but the songs are medicore

Not very nice

It was fine, but not my taste

None of these really stuck out to me. It’s a little too angry for me I guess.

Not necessarily the sort of punk that I'm really into. Guess I'll come back to it in the future and see how my tastes change.

I guess I'm not a big fan of punk. I can see the influence of this album back in the 70s but listening to it today doesn't appeal to me. I was surprised to see that the band only had a single album. Apparently, they made something so influential for their time that they reached this much popularity with only a single album. I get the energy of the songs but I feel too old listening to this album. The songs are repetitive and the vocals are ear-scratching for me.

Not a fan

Too much

I can definitely see how influential this was, but to be honest, I'm not that into it. Like, for me, punk isn't really good unless it's like, crossover. There are just too many instances of them playing too similar of riffs, and the vocals don't do much for me either.

Ja hoor, wel prima. tis echt niet m’n ding jammer genoeg

Without a doubt one of the most influential yet basic albums of punk music. The Sex Pistols's album is these days more renownend for the scandals of the band and the presentation than the actual musical quality I'd argue. If punk was just posturing at this time, then, yes, it has its place. But musically I don't think I find something interesting here.

2 stars. All the songs literally sound the same, which like fair, but I don’t get it. Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because they criticized the Queen of England lol.

it's truly fascinating that the sex pistols had one studio album but were so influential and memorable. but that doesn't mean i enjoyed it. a lot of early punk is so unrefined and uncoordinated that i can't even appreciate it. in contrast, the instrumentation was fine! in fact, i think it was done well or maybe i just had extremely low expectations. the vocals, however, were incoherent and unappealing and a downright mess. johnny rotten's voice makes the sex pistols unlistenable. i do respect this album's placement on this list, however.

Duck this shit

C Holidays In the Sun 3 Bodies 3 No Feelings 3 Liar 2 Problems 3 God Save the Queen 2 Seventeen 2 Anarchy In the U.K. 2 Submission 2 Pretty Vacant 2 New York 2 EMI 1 The Ramones called, they wanted to tell you that doing what they do, but worse, isn't special. PUNK IS AMERICAN.

the perfect album for that one radio station in GTA V or as a needle drop in a Quentin Tarantino film. you decide whether thats good or not. fav song: no feelings

Yup this sounds a lot like sex pistols songs.

Not for me. I prefer singers who can actually sing.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Anarchy in the U.K. (8) 2 - Pretty Vacant (10) 3 - God Save the Queen (6)

This is another one where context is everything really. This was a very necessary reactionary movement in music, and a couple of the songs still hold up "God Save" and "Pretty Vacant", but the rest doesn't do much for me. Minus one star for the homophobia on New York (also a pretty cringe dis track).

not my flavor, but i respect the punk ethos

Gunna be honest, almost every song sounded the same to me

There is no denying that the Sex Pistols are the cornerstone of punk rock. While proto-punk bands may have come before them, the cultural movement of punk counterculture had started with Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols. It had to be on the list. And yet, despite being intensely vulgar, starkly rebellious, true to the first wave of punk, the Sex Pistols were never really about it. At least, vocalist and frontman Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) was a reactionary loser who only liked getting a rise out of people. Any sort of messaging or politics of the Pistols ran hollow, as it was only ever about generating controversy. For every person they pissed off, they had another one buying the record. It was a marketing tactic more than anything. Some good songs on here. Hits like Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen are still decent listens, but the rest is barely notable. Even in the canon of punk rock history, Sex Pistol songs are barely notable. In comparison, bands like the Buzzcocks and the Clash would have the better collection of songs under their belts. The truth is that the Sex Pistols were always the bollocks.

not my cup of tea lads

I don't like most punk music, but can hear the influence this had. It's simple now, but game changing back then. I never realized this was their only album. Reading the wiki about them was quite a ride, they seemed like a bunch of obnoxious babies. I got a headache by the end and I begged for Johnny to shut up. 2.5/not my thing.

british punk sucks

Repetitive, childish, superficial understanding of political theory that is used to cause controversy rather than thought.

I know what it sounds like, don't want to listen to it - the Disney show was better than the reality

I can absolutely see the attraction here. In 70's UK this must have sounded incredibly new and edgy. As it stands listening for the first time in 2023 it sounds needlessly edge-lord, shocking for the sake of shocking. Not gonna stay in my list

This is so painfully British. Can't understand a word of what is being said.

Only a 2 because of its historical significance

would rather have the bollocks than the sex pistols

I think it was once and for all established, earlier on this list, that I'm not enjoying punk music and even the shortest songs unbelievably drag for me into oblivion. Today I had yet another chance to change my mind. This album was acclaimed by many as the greatest punk rock album in history. It's certainly one of the better known records from this genre. And what did I find? Surprise! I still don't like it. There is no reason for me to pour my grievances with punk music over and over on this website. Let's just say that I slightly enjoyed the song "Anarchy in the UK" and absolutely suffered during every other track. I don't feel that it would be fair to give it a 1/5, as compared to other punk albums on this list it's not the worst, but 2/5 is absolutely as high as I can go.

The ultimate, "you had to be there album" listening to it now is very difficult.

No me gustó y ni si quiera se por qué. No me parece algo resaltante en lo absoluto, aunque, más que nada, simplemente no es mi tipo.

The Queen is dead. Are they still angry?

It’s hard to rate this without bumping it up for the massive influence it and the Pistols had, but… eh. I’ve tried to be a punk gal but I just cannot get onboard. It’s not for me.

Very quick pace, like much punk music. Do not enjoy singers voice. Very monotonous and hard to decipher.

I've heard a couple of tracks for this album, and know a few things about the band's place in the history of rock and roll. At best, I got through the the album, but ther were some tracks that I specifically did not like. I can't round up to 3 stars.

this shit kinda corny lowkey ngl….

nevermind the Sex Pistols...

Not into punk :/

not my cup of tea but i understand how people could like it

I’ll partially blame the pot audio quality of Spotify for not enjoying this album more. So many of the songs sounded very flat and just plain noisy without any ability to distinguish between the instruments. On top of that it’s really not my favorite style of music so I don’t think I would’ve loved it either way. 4/10

I don't think I like the sex pistols

it's been said before but if sex pistols were a hardcore band they'd be much better

Too aggressive for my taste

favorite tracks - holidays in the sun, liar least favorite tracks - new york I'm biased against this album given Johnny Rotton's fence sitting, bootlicking, homophobic bullshit as of late. Makes this album feel vapid and hollow. Buzzcocks did it first, Dead Kennedys did it better

I don’t like punk in general. The guitar rhythms were enjoyable. The vocalist just talking a bunch doesn’t work for me.

Not my style

Punk rock is not really for me.

Decent British punk album. The Sex Pistols seemed to be pretty shitty people and I don't think this is by any mean a flawless album. I've listened to it plenty in the past and there are a number of skip tracks in my opinion. Really could be reduced to the two most famous singles to me, don't really see myself ever listening to this one end-to-end again. Standout Tracks: Liar, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K., Pretty Vacant, EMI

i just can't with this genre

album lancé sous la douche mercredi dernier qui ne m'a manifestement pas marquée car j'ai oublié de le noter

never mind the bollocks hers the shitty ass band 😲😲😲😲 really has nothing going for it imo

Johnny Rotten stresses me out. I see their influence ig

The first punk album and literally nothing changed since

I just can't get past the fact that John Lydon is a pillock.

I used to be cooler, apparently. I liked bodies, god save the queen and anarchy in the UK, but everything just started to sound the same after a while.

Could have. Even better

The guitar and background music sounds great but I just can’t stand the lead singers voice. I can see aspects of songs that are catchy but as a whole, not something I would listen to again

Did not enjoy, all songs sounded the same

Supposedly super influential, but just loud and hard to understand.

70s classic rock still rings true.

Best Song: Bodies. I appreciate the shock value that a song that so explicitly discusses abortion must have caused when the album first came out. Worst Song: Problems. Holy shit that droning "Prawwblemm" at the end of the track is one of the least musical things I've heard on this list. And I can't even give the group credit to think this might have been an intentional choice. I think they legitimately didn't know better. Overall: Imagine if you took punk music, stripped it of all its lyrical intelligence, its musical creativity, and its political authenticity. An album with neither a heart nor a brain. An extraordinary long 39 minutes.

poor silly

I guess the Sex Pistols were something back in their time and were influential to some degree, but to my ear they are way overrated.

Sex Pistols is something to be lived, like punk movement, not listened. Shitty music.

Can see the influence this punk album has had on music, but it wasn't for me.

Not a fan of manufactured bands. Purely musically, it's okay, kinda catchy but pretty generic and subdued without any real energy to it. Even just listening to it, it sounds like they don't even wanna be there and don't really believe anything they're saying. If I didn't know anything about the band, I'd give it a 3, but I'm docking a point for lack of authenticity. I'm also pissed by how overrated they are. There was so much better punk made before this album, but I guess people like this because it's so accessible and commercial.

Its punk from start to finish. Not great for me but I did like parts of it.

Sounds cleaner than I remember and the playing slightly more competent (low bar) than I recall. A landmark, sure, but more for the hype or celebration of teen angst than anything musical. It’s a gimmick, a statement, and thus reads contrived and even soulless. New Wave would up it with much greater range – musically, emotionally and creatively. The tunelessness is more annoying than the anger is affecting. Plus, just feels so performative and insincere (blame John Lydon, who is at least somewhat distinctive as a vocalist). I find current DIY records more compelling, or least more worthy of being given a chance. Could/would this record inspire anyone today? It’s worth knowing its place in history, sure, but that doesn’t make it worth listening to anymore. Just because it was unprecedented at the time doesn't mean it's any better now. There's a reason there's only one Sex Pistols record.

I feel intense "meh" about this record. I have a hard time properly contextualizing this album. To me, it sounds like a hollow re-tread of The Stooges, or the New York Dolls. My impression is that they might have been a more important band for what they represented and opening the floodgates for punk to break into the mainstream, than for their music itself. Which is *fine* I guess. There's some vital playing and guitar parts, but the songs are just okay. Maybe I'm just in a sour mood, but I'm feeling severely underwhelmed by this. Rating: 2.5/5 Fave tracks: Sub-Mission, God Save the Queen

not very good

For an album that is so iconic, angry, energetic, seminal and revolutionary- the music is pretty damn boring.

Never Mind This Album, know what i'm saying? But "God Save the Queen" is ok.

Didn’t enjoy. I’ve heard of the group but didn’t recognize any of the songs.

Pretty obnoxious would rate a 2

No more punk please, I prefer a mellotron

Better than i remembered but not great

I understand where the anger came from, and I understand the historical importance of this album, but... It's just too close to noise for me. Sorry

So close to good but Johnny Rotten is such an edgelord.

I can practically smell the cheap liquor and bad cigarettes pouring off this album.

Holidays in the sun opens hard. The play hard and fast thing is fine in punk, I like punk more than I think I do, but some of this is very samey. Or maybe I just don't appreciate it properly, but yeah. The lyrics are so repetitive and ham-fisted. I can see how this was all shocking in 77 but in the days of WAP, it falls a little flat in terms of how controversial it is. Goods - Holidays in the Sun, No Feeling, Bad - EMI Art - Meh. I get the bold writing, I get the stark yellow and pink, but despite its classic status, it's doing nothing for me.

theres some nigh bangers. music is cool. the vocals ruin it for me

Similar to Pixies and Ramones

Punk really was a mistake. It's literally all the same. More enjoyable than some others though. If you gave me this, the Clash, The Manic Street Preachers, Elastica, Minor Threat, New York Dolls, X-Ray Spex or Ramones, I wouldn't know who it would be because they just have the exact same album with the exact same songs all of them. Ok I would probably know, but I wouldn't enjoy it hahah

I knew God Save the Queen and Anarchy in the UK. I know this is the classic punk album. But really, this is not very good, is it? Will I listen to it again? No, that's very unlikely.

Pretty meh, maybe 2.5 / 5 but I'm uncertain.

I'm unsure about how to rate this one. I can listen to it, and I appreciate that it must've been pretty revolutionary on release. But I don't think I'm the target audience on this one. I find the way the lyrics are sung/spoken/shouted too aggressive - I understand that's the point and it fits in with the theme of the album, but I don't find it pleasant to listen to. That's my only real complaint, as instrumentally I really like the guitar/bass riffs and drums. This is probably a 2.5 stars for me.

Some good songs but obvious pre fab punk for shock value.

hmmmmm idk that i'm gonna like this. ugh music is okay but his voice annoys me. i don't think these guys know how abortions work. i do like how fast paced the song is though. honestly while i don't like the sound so far (on song 3 rn) it's quite entertaining at least. can't be awful and boring both. i really dislike his tone though, or is it his accent that bothers me. so whiny. the lyrics are taking me out. 'problems': i like the lyrics, there's songs with the exact same subject matter across all decades, funny how we're/life is always about the same stuff. the f slur used to be so popular in music. i don't feel like i've been hearing it that much in the last decade as i have since i started listening to albums from this list. did they finish up the album with a fart sound, and here i was considering giving this a 3. music was okay though repetitive, his vocal performance i disliked but at least it was interesting, lyrics were fun. so, not as awful as i thought it would be initially but i can't say my brain enjoyed this. it's like a movie that's kinda interesting maybe but it looks bad.

super repetitive, no standounts

The Sex Pistols', like the other punk albums on this list, didn't resonate with me.

Again, pretty average punk. It’s not bad, but it’s not London Calling.

A classic I guess. I used to love this album when I was younger and full of teenage angst but now when I listen to it in full I just find it a bit... well... pathetic. I guess growing up can really change your mindset. I guess in a few years I’ll be voting Tory and thinking Piers Morgan makes some valid points and that makes me sad. God Save The Queen and Anarchy in the UK will always be top tier classics though and the nostalgia factor of having that teenage fight in me bring the rating up a bit. Imagine how good this would’ve been live at the time though. I bet there’s a lot of people who rate the SP as the best live band they’ve ever seen.

Ok, classic, but not my thing. Also this dude is maga.

Punk is better than I thought.

Had hier zin in en dacht dat ik dit goed kon hebben, maar wat een bittere pil zeg! Dat gekrijs is echt verschrikkelijk.

Nooit fan geweest van the Sex Pistols. En na het beluisteren van deze plaat komt daar geen verandering in.

Het viel me nog mee, heb het best een tijdje volgehouden, maar uiteindelijk vind ik het gewoon lawaai.

Not a big fan of the vocals, which I remember as weird from Kevin destroying me in GH3 freshman year

pretty cool. little too rough

bleibt nichts hängen

Not a big fan. Appreciate the origin of punk but not even their biggest hit is something I care for particularly.

If I were to mosh pit, which I do not, this album would be up there in something that brings that type of energy. I respect what they're trying to do. Perhaps I could listen to one of these songs on my way out the door of a pregame. I could not directly get in an uber after.

Ground breaking music. Very influential. But if im being honest I didn't really enjoy it that much. I do respect it though.

Really not my style

This was just the same thing over and over

Ehh. Not my jam

Niet mijn soort muziek

Well, I learned a bit about the history of punk rock by reading about this album. I recognize its importance to music in general, but dammit, I don't like it. I also don't loathe it the way I do the other 1-stars, so 2 is the number for it.

Classic Punk and me, I don't think we'll ever become friends

I thought I liked this more. It was ok.

Punk, rebelsk, anarkistisk, energisk

I tried... but failed. :(

This was a hard listen for me. I thought I'd like it more

Bollocks

insufferable

Not a fan of this album I don't like there voice that much overall music is not interesting even as a punk rock the instruments were mid generous 1.4/10

English Slop. Skipped every song halfway through just about.

Music designed to be annoying, and it succeeds

I really didn't like this and I honestly don't feel like there was anything redeeming about it even if I tried to separate it from my personal tastes

please never again.

Shit in the UK

Every song had a promising start, guitars, bass, drums, great beats, had me movin', then the vocals ruined the vibe. Every single time.

I respect that people like this but I don't.

I'm not gonna trash the sex pistols but they are clearly not for me :/ I really tried to like it, listened to it a few times but nope

sounds like a song youd hear being played in a young adult movie by the typical 'older brother in a band'. i dont see myself listening to this album again. the songs starting becoming better after 'liar'. the lore behind the band sounds pretty interesting tho ahahaha

I don’t like the sex pistols

Not for me. 70s version of "look how edgy I am" ('Bodies' is just stupid). I get the cultural context, sure, that doesn't mean it's good in 2026.

Punk. Not my style. Difficult to listen to

I do think some of my idols probably love this, but it's reeeeally not for me.

I couldn’t get past the first few songs. This is not my style of music and it’s not enjoyable to me. I didn’t finish the album but maybe I’ll come back to it one day.

Didn't vibe with it

The definitive overrated album

No thanks. The single most overrated LP, and band, of the punk rock movement.

I didn't like it much unfortunately. I think Frusciante likes this band but it didn't resonate much with me. I do think I recognized 1 or 2 songs but that's about it from me. 3/10

you can not convince me anyone actually likes this album, what the hell is this bullcrap? Would I listen again: dear god no Deserves to be on this list: absolutely not 0

Not my cup of coffee

One of the most overrated albums of all time. Poorly played Chuck Berry riffs and sneering vocals. It's inexplicable how this ended up being the year zero moment for so much amazing music.

Truly I expected infinitely more than the hackneyed presentation here. For every Nirvana t-shirt-wearing know-it-all that has a poster of this in their room, I recommend listening to any other punk album from this era for an actually authentic experience. Rubbish.

182/1089 John Lydon, FLOPPP. This music just isn’t a bit of me really “never mind the bollocks, just kidding here’s the bollocks” i can understand that it was impactful and for many people this is great. However, my ratings are personal and i just didn’t like it and John Lydon is annoying on top of that 18/100

album odiavel, apenas barulho e instrumento exagerado. eu queria dizer que “eu vejo porque alguem gosta disso” mas nao consigo. 1/10
