They surely have the funk!
Alright, this is a funky-ass album from one of the legends Parliament, complete with scratching guitars, horns, oily bass courtesy of Bootsy Collins, and a loose outer space narrative. Is it cheesy? Absolutely. But that's where the charms lie with how much charisma George Clinton and company can pull off with this collection of tunes about interstellar grooving that doesn't overstay its welcome save for the opening skits. It's a silly album with a lot of craftsmanship to back it up, I dig it.
One of the better funk albums imo, I really cant rate this bad when I enjoy a lot of the Commodores' stuff. Very solid, and Give Up The Funk is a classic tune
Classic Funk Album, I love the various grooves. Give Up the Funk I had heard before and the last track was unavailable on Spotify but overall was a really groovy listen
Cosmic funk descends, Rhythms pulse from Parliament, Galaxy extends.

Oh god now theres funk all over my screen
So influential on many things that I listen to.
Awesome and funky!
This fucks!
Quite fun, I liked the song names and overall it was pretty funky
I have to keep my sunglasses on, it's the law
It's real funky like ol' Greg(mighty boosh). This makes me want to bump my booty. It has a good flow and all kinds of various instruments you'd think don't work together but managed some how. Handcuffs seemed sexy at first, but at the same time kind of misogynistic or at least controlling of someone because you can't trust them??? I'm not sure, the lyrics were started to devolve. The next song picks back up to a classic fun funk beat, so that one song was a bit of an outlier for sure. The last song has a real crazy noise, like a almost fart background noise. Like a interstellar flatulence. Good overall, it'll get you moving for sure if you want to funk out while cleaning or being active.
I'm not sure I've ever listened to an entire funk album. I liked the album cover with the afro futurism vibe from the outset. Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication sounds like gears and lasers in the background, definitely getting a space vibe on this track. Are they constructing some robots back there? 'Give up the funk' is the one I've heard before on the radio, it's ok but it seems boring compared to some of the others from the album, but it's still catchy. This is the one that gets stuck in your head after listening. My favorites are 'Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples' and 'Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication'. I keep thinking, 'how are they making this sound', at certain points(in a good way), but then there is also a nice full band with an identifyable sax and piano. I really enjoyed listening to this album a few times today, but I'm not sure how much I'll go back to it. It's unique and has a fun silly theatrical vibe and I can see why it's on the list. You can feel the joy here. 3.5/5
Excellent funk, gotta dig into the rest of the Parliament discog 👍
Funky!
Good. Songs go on too long though.
Wow this brought back memories of high school. P-Funk and Give Up the Funk were favorites.
Groovy!
Joyous, exciting, dynamic, fun, bouncy. Odd listen to it again. I keep thinking of what would I need doing where this is a pretty awesome thing to listen to. In I think walking to work. Commuting. Gymming. Gardening. It's a good bit of energy to have through your ears. 3 stars, 4 stars? Unsure. Let's go 4.
Love this funky album
Yeah, this is a groovy and enjoyable album. I can't give it only 3 stars, had to be 4 because some of the songs are stuck on me.
listened to again i mean, these dudes invented P-funk
I found the lyrics a bit annoyingly repetitive, but the music itself is amazing.
I always assumed that the P in P-funk stood for parliament as they are so funky they created their own damn musical genre. Did I put this on my headphones and walk down the main street in Swords where o work and feel like the blackest white man in town -yes. Did I enjoy every second - absolutely
Had to put on my special funk trousers for this one. Not sure my regular ones would have coped otherwise.
I'm definitely more of a Parliament person than a Funkadelic person, though both are still good. Absolutely love this album. Great songs top to bottom. Can't really pick a favorite because they're all fantastic.
A genre unto themselves- P -Funk. Some music doesn’t age well, Parliament is not among them. Big and brassy and bold.
Parliament is a band entirely made up of aliens from the funkiest planet imaginable. They come in peace, and they come to funk your face off. It's a continuous groove that I think even the most stern person would get caught up in. Favorite tracks: "P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up)", "Handcuffs"
Excellent. Best tracks Mothership Connected and Give Up The Funk 4/5
My main complaint is that it’s only 7 tracks. Favourite track: Unfunky UFO.
Great background listen, sampled often in hip-hop. Wouldn't call it a diverse album or sound but what it does it does well.
First track I was all like ‘less talkin’, more groovin’!’ After that they duly obliged. Lots of irresistibly squelchy, spacey beats. These guys sure put the ‘fun’ in funk; this is a rare example of the genre that I’d happily listen to again all the way through.
We want the funk is timeless, lots of protofunk and I can see how it’s influenced a lot that’s come after it. Beyond a few highs like handcuffs and give up the funk it was a tad generic but that’s to be expected of early work like this.
Hot dang, this is fly! I'd never heard of this group before, but I dig it! What surprised me the most is the random dialogue dubbed in. I've heard similar types of chatter or playful riffing in rap or hip hop albums of the late 80s and forward, but this album is from 1975! I think that's the earliest I've heard that style used. These were great beats—I think Imma' let them bring the funk back to me again, real soon! This is a 3.5 for me, but I'm happy to round up to a four.
Well that was fun. I don't seek out funk, but I enjoyed this.
Love it. I did start to get distracted when the fart sounds started.
Would be a 3 for me on its own merit (unfunky UFO is the best song I hadn’t heard before) but the fact that most songs are sampled in 90s hip hop songs bumps it up. Is Dr Dre’s career even possible without Parliament?
Great musicianship and pretty great mix. Wasn't especially in the mood when I started but it grew on me.
This is one crazy funk album, and I loved it! The album cover sets the scene: one of the funkiest bands of the 1970s in a mothership, flying through space trying to find the mothership connection—wild! Short and sweet, what an awesome album!
Funk isn’t my thing but this had me grooving. Light 4.
feeling funked up
8/10 I was always going to like this, excellent funky music that continues to be influential and heard in current music Total vibe, great rhythm and squelchy synth Some of it sounded almost jazz-like and improvised, some of it was tight as hell The flip side of the more freeform stuff was the lyrics were minimal or shallow Best: Unfunky UFO
Parliament albums are always fun. Some great jamming. Some weird lyrics. I don’t think this album is as consistent as some of their others though.
Mothership Connection I’m fairly familiar with Mothership Connection although I don’t listen to it that often. I love the concept of this album, and the whole Parliament/Funkadelic ethos/philosophy/universe. P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up). Great opener, like the spoken word, introduces the brilliant but loopy concept. Love the Rachmaninov style piano in the outro. Mothership Connection (Star Child) carries it on with another banger. Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication and Handcuffs aren’t perhaps as strong as those first two songs but they are still very good, Unfunky UFO in particular is white overbite dancing good. Shades of Sex & Drugs & Rock’n’Roll in the piano in Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication. And then Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker). Absolute all time classic banger. Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples is a great title and a nice farty way to round things out, even if the song isn’t as strong as the title. There’s just the right blend of funk, disco, soul and jazz, the jazzy bits don’t intrude on the songs. The playing is superb. Bootsy Collins bass is so good, a great tone and simultaneously melodic and percussive, and is great in tandem with the drums. Brilliant horns too. Trying not to compare it to yesterday’s album as it’s just a quirk of the randomness but it’s night and day. This is fun, funny and excellent, yesterday was dull and wanky. So all in all this is a great listen, three absolute classics with the remainder very good if not quite as great as those three It’s somewhere between 4 and 5, I’ll go 4. ⭐⭐⭐⭐️
Funky and still holds up every time I listen to it. A complete sonic smile. Enjoyed listening to it front to back.
Funky af
Funky!
Funky 70s rap
Deeply funky, incredibly talented, not totally my sort of thing, but absolutely great fun. I'm marking it down a little because I wasn't totally disappointed when it was over, but I'm sure that says more about me than Parliament.
George Clinton seems like such a fun guy. I love this. We need the funk, indeed.
Premium grade funk. A fun ride.
funky. influential. Occasionally questionable lyrics like on "handcuffs" 4 stars
Very unique
Yes man thats funk
This is the maximum funk allowable by law.
Rating: 9/10 It's so damn funky. Favorite songs: Pretty much all of them. Least favorite song: Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples.
So close to a 5 - 4.4, could be 5 upon repeat listens
the FUNK, the GROOVE so much fun
8/10
Groovy all around.
Mijn favoriet is Give Up The Funk. Bass is heerlijk. Als afsluiter Night of the Thumpasorus. Dat smaakt gewoon naar meer. Zó moet je een plaat afsluiten! Rating: 9/10 Highlights: Handcuffs, Unfunky UFO, Give up the Funk
8,5/10 Highlights: Mothership Connection (Star Child) Handcuffs Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)
We got the groove! 8/10 Highlights Unfunky UFO (vanwege blazers) Give Up the Funk
Really fun!
Always a joy
parliment always feels like waking up in a sunbeam. i needed this today
Ok listen I did not fully replay this album today, but I've played it before and Parliament is (as far as I've ever encountered) always at least three stars for me. Funky, still fresh sounding somehow in 2024, and silly. However: four long tracks for sittin' at home is not my favorite form factor.
Very funky. I have never heard the whole album, it's very good. I will definitely listen to this again. I already have one of their other records.
Funk paradise Fav song: mothership connection (star child)
Great overall, but Starchild talking over the tracks got funking annoying.
P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up) 4.1 Mothership Connection (Star Child) 3.9 Unfunky UFO 3.8 Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication 3.9 Handcuffs 4 Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) 4 Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples 3.9 Score: 3.94
Pretty cool album. Never heard of these guys before. Very listenable and not overly long.
pretty good, can get kinda repetitive though
I am embarassed how much of this is in The Chronic that I didn't know about.
Definitive funk sound. Prominent use of spoken word. Exceptional vocal performance on “Handcuffs”. Virtuosic rhythm section. A number of catchy melodies. Deserves multiple listens.
Not my fav music genre but I appreciate it! I didn’t realize this band created give up the funk, cool to know. I saved handcuffs.
Pretty good, couple of solid bangers but a bit too theatrical to the point of distraction
The talent of this band is evident right away! I love how fun it is. It was a fun romp. Way shorter than I expected a rollicking funk album to be. The hit hit just like they always did. The playful plays on words “funked up” “mother sucker” are fantastic additions. Fun times!
Give up the funk, just too short for 5 stars
Very funky, great vibes.
Nice and groovy, enjoyed this as background music. Wasn't too harsh but wasn't too soft, so it was nice doing other stuff while this was playing.
Clss, feel-good funk
This is pretty sweet. Particularly liked hearing the original sample on Mothership Connection.
If you want the funk, man this is the place to get it.
The funkiest funk to ever funk.
Pretty fun.
We want the Funk! We want the Funk!!! Yes - true fun funkadelic sound! Give it a listen -
Funkadelic classic
4-
Dr Dre says hello 😍
FUNKY, hell yeah this is a FANTASTIC funk album, wanted to get down in the office as goofy as that sounds. 4.0
It's really excellent! Not sure why George Clinton performed under at least 2 monikers. It sounded like Funkadelic, so why Parliament - or is it the other way round? Doesn't matter as it was great. Lots going on instrumentally with the fusion of funk and psychedelia, i like the idea of psyche you can dance to, and i must investigate GC's back catalogue sometime. Apparently the lyrics are out of this world too, but didn't concentrate on those too much as usual. A low 4.
I got easily funked up. That's the stuff I expect from this list. 4.5/5.
Very funky
Funky as hell
It defo has that funk, was I wanting a bit more funk, probably but it got me grooving in my chair. Slightly odd, crazy 70s aesthetic to this project but it was relatively enjoyable. Quite a few moments felt very of their time but nothing to completely hate on. A decent funky album.
This literally had my toes tapping as I drove. And I don't even dance.
Meandering, but in a teleport me to Mars way. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. FUNK.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It was great to have it playing while working around the house.
Really made me want to get funked up. The fun energy, great instrumentation, and good vibes make this album fun and easy listening. It's hard to not dance a little while you're listening. I knew the Give Up The Funk song before but I'm glad I could hear the whole album now. I love the jammy sections. This is another album that reminds me that modern jam bands have basically just taken inspiration from black artists. Jazz and funk is such a part of the modern jam band sound.
Not my favorite P-funk album but how can I resist anything that makes me shimmy my shoulders this much sitting down?
Y'all really weren't kidding about Awaken My Love biting their sound
Was predisposed to hating this but actually really liked it more than I thought I would. Playfull, funky, soothing and joyful. What’s not to like.
classic
Funky. I liked it, a bit weird, but didn't mind it. A bit chill too. 7/10
Musicianship was great but I wasn't a fan of the repetitiveness. It was cool to hear where the Dr. Dre chronic samples came from
Fabulous funk!
Funky Likeable Energetic. Not as good as Funkadelic but still a great record
I'd forgotten all about "funkadelic"
Great album. Huge influence on 90s hip hop culture.
Nice !
Energetic and nostalgic
good
Fab, funky, chilled
Some good ol fashion funk
An absolute delight from the very start. I'm a sucker for a concept album, and FUNKY SPACE SHIPS/ALIENS? Hell yes. One of those albums where I *feel* like I've heard a lot of it before, but probably haven't, but I have heard all the music it's influenced, and the artists that have sampled this album. I think the only George Clinton associated album I've actually heard before is "Maggot Brain". But maybe it's time for me to listen to more funk, cause I'm absolutely loving this. nevermind, i definitelty know "Give Up The Funk" lol Overall, quite the fun listen, I can see myself returning to this one, does not blow me away enough to be a full on five bagger but I think it's a very solid 4.
- vibes are so happy, makes me want to dance - love the horns - everything has such a fun bounce to it -4.5
7.4
A great album that I hadn’t heard in many years. A master class in funk.
I'm old enough to remember: This is exactly what 1975 sounded like. Bring on 'da funk, at least for 35 minutes.
70s funk through and through (in sound) really enjoyable-not something that I’d always listen to but really liked. 4/5
Had a real Mothership Connection with this one. I will not Give up the Funk after listening to this.
My wife loves it when I play Handcuffs as loud as possible.
First time listening to funk. A good jam. Keeps me somewhat mellow and moving. Need my sunglasses
I dig it. Almost James Brown meests Earth, Wind and Fire meets Pink Floyd. Upbeat, funky and quirky.
Oikeen viihdyttävä, kevyt kuunnella
Really cohesive and easy to listen to all the way through without noticing how quickly the time is passing. A lot of familiarity with the beats suggests that it’s heavily sampled, which is not surprising given how catchy it is. Can’t help but make the funk face and bob your head.
8/10
The only song I knew going in was "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)", which is a great funk song, something that got a fair amount of exposure back in the day. I have a digital copy of this one. But I hadn't ever heard the whole album, so I was pretty interested when this came up today. This is a pretty solid album in the realm of funk, most of it is quite good. I was groovin' the whole time. That said, "Give Up The Funk" is the only song that's really memorable, and the "radio announcements" part of the opening song weren't my favorite. I think this will deserve some additional listens before I make a final judgement, but I'll give it a conditional 4/5
Me and Emma vibed to funk in a museum-like home. Glad I saved it for a post-holiday treat with the sweetest girl by my side.
Difficult one this. It's obviously funky as balls, and there is an inherent coolness that comes with that.... But would I actually ever listen to it? The names of the tracks are funny and interesting. I can't help but think of the mighty boosh episode with the funk though and it's making this seem silly. I did quite enjoy it though. Sure I recognised lots of it from various samples over the years Highlight was "Give up the funk" 3.5
Play that funky music baby! Tai oikeastaan ”Give up the funk”. Ihan rennonletkeää meininkiä. Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples oli oma suosikki. Gagagugaa, gagagugaa.
Love the funk
Album 272 of 1001 Parliament - Mothership Connection Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Track : Give Up the Funk I love this album. Easily my choice, if funk is the goal.
The GOAT of funk music in my opinion. Parliament lays their funk on thick, yet smooth. Mousse-like. You know exactly what you’re getting and it’s exactly what you wanted. Give Up The Funk is arguably the most iconic funk song that ever funked. This album is celebratory and proud, it’s fun and funky, and honestly, it’s just a whole ass vibe. It is a revelation to its genre. The only thing I dislike is the bloated track lengths. Which I know is common for the genre, I just appreciate brevity in music more than exploratory, jamming loops.
Great funk album.
Fun. Enjoyable. I greatly appreciate how “funk” as a topic in general is the central focus for a large portion of this album.
Delicious funky awesomeness!
I love Parliment.
Pure uncut funk
Funk. What's not to like?
funkity funk funk, funkity funk funk, look at Georgie go.
Psychedelic super funky funk. The Funkiest album I've ever listened to. Some nice Jazz with the funk dialed up to max. Favorite song- Give up the funk
So much funk. These guys could jam endlessly and it would still not be boring. And I can see the evolution from Parliament to early hip hop from the song structures.
I love this album So much!! First album to come up that I love already.
The funkiest funk that ever funked. Killer stuff. Will have you grooving the whole time.
Fantastically funky! Had me grooving and nodding along... some amazing basswork here.
Loved it, the night of the Thumpasorus Peoples had some weird instrument that threw this off from a 5, but it was a great fun album and could be listened to over and over again. Take out that last song and I could have it on repeat for 6 hours.
Great funky music. Keeps your head bobbing and toes tapping. Doesn't get old.
For me great music takes you to a different place, a state of mind. Mothership Connection does that. I got totally into it, just changed my thinking for the better in the middle of a semi-trouble-filled day. The opposite of the seriousness of Radiohead or Gracelend (Paul Simon) but equally excellent. Has a good sense of humor. I loved it.
Well, I ain't gonna exaggerate but this is real funk! Not the best album out there but def one of the few albums that are 'true-funk' (Parliament always knew how to use their synth lol).
groovy dude swing down sweet chariot stop and let me ride
If funk ye be looking for, look no further. They hit it right on the head here. Fun and full of life. Would have enjoyed a little more range throughout, but ultimately satisfied. 4/5
Not sure what they like more, funk music or saying the word funk.
Fantastic funk!
I liked this! It made me laugh.
This shit slaps.
Groovtastic
I mean, funk is great.
This is an excellent album, but I think I got it here a bit late on the list. Getting such an influential album after listening to many albums influenced by it is much less impressive. It's an album that deserves attention, but listening to it with some contextualization is mandatory.
7.5/10
Very Groovy! Candidate for some playlist additions.
very good funk album
weird but awesome
Funky, chunky, and full of spunk-y
Top notch funky business
Don’t let anyone make you give up your funk.
Remember when you could enter a secret code and play as George Clinton on NBA jam? That was cool. The hits keep on coming. I was quite thrilled to have Parliament do it to me in the ears. Easily the most fun album we’ve listened to so far. The world is a better place thanks to the imprint Parliament has left on it. I mean…what would PCU even have been without their cameo appearance? Anyhoo, make my funk the P-Funk.
P-funk! Listened to it twice back to back.
Lots of dr Dre and snoop roots in this album
That Underwater Funk!
Just a funky masterpiece. This music should make a comeback.
Ridiculous fun. This album almost cured my arthritis.
Very enjoyable. Has heart to it that you can feel.
Classic funky Funk
Really enjoy Parliament. Great album, great band. Just really fun music. 3.5/5
I just love this genre- really fun and accessible. The only slightly negative thing I can say is sometimes I find it difficult to distinguish different albums and bands. Still good to listen to though.
awww yeah I wanna funk
Listened Before? Yes Album Art: 5 / 5 - what's not to love? Oh I fuck with some P-Funk. Hard not to immediately think of The Roach hearing the intro, but this song stands alone just fine. All the bass warble; all the drugs. Unfunky UFO is a jam that I never get tired of. Such groove, much wow. Give Up The Funk is a classic. Just an open-ended drum and bass jam with synth sprinkled in. Remember hearing this one on just about every road trip with my parents when they played 100% Funk. Pour one for the Thumpasorous People. Buttery bass propelling the song with flatulence-esq backing synths for the opening section and incoherent chanting throughout the rest. Pretty much quintessential Parliament. While I generally prefer the Funkadelic era (a la Maggot Brain), this is a solid entry into the PFunk catalog. Less jammy and spacious than the early Funkadelic work, this album puts the bass, horns, and synth at the forefront and connects on so many levels. I was in the groove for 38 straight minutes. High 4 / 5 for me. Added to Library? Hell Yes Songs Added to Playlists: - Unfunky UFO
Started off so funkilicious with P-Funk and Mothership Connection. Slowed down a bit, but then was not expecting to have a song hat I knew with Give Up the Funk that song always plays hard. This album started to lose me in the middle but then funked itself right back up into a 4. I really want to know what a Thumpasorus Peoples are and why they were just brown noting in my ear the whole song.
Didn't realize I was going to funk town this morning but I am not upset by it. Only song I knew was Give Up The Funk but every song was pretty legit even though they started melding into each other (partially blame that on work, fuck work). Also what the hell sound is happening in Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples it sounds like shitting noises. Either way I see myself coming back to some of these jams for sure.
Funk funk funk. It seems like the beat is more important than the lyrics or even the main instruments. It’s very repetitive but that’s the point
4. Not my usual, but really enjoyed it!
Sehr funky Könnte teils noch experimenteller sein
Very funky and fun - we got the funk!
This was fun! Loved the vibe. Would be great to own on vinyl.
This was great fun to listen to and the 41 minutes flew by. I will probably go back to this again, even if it's just to try and pick up more of the samples used by other artists. I picked up a few on my first listen, but there's probably more there. Funk isn't really my thing, or this would be an easy 5-stars. It was great, but not quite perfect enough for a perfect rating.
Not my favourite parliament album but still great
For some reason it never occurred to me, growing up at least, that entire albums of Funk existed. My only experience was generally one-off bits in TV shows or movies. This album was almost unbelievably funky, especially compared to anything I'd heard of this genre in the past. There was a relatively snoozy track or two, but I can't imagine a person existing that wouldn't have a good time listening to this album. Highlight: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) Lowlight: Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples Surprise Hit: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up)
The funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk. Was a fun listen, but the songs all seemed to be about the subject of funk itself, with no other content. They weren't really about anything other than funk itself, how funky the band perceive itself to be, and how they are delivering funk to the audience. Still, it was enjoyable enough to listen to, and I'd relisten if the mood struck.
It’s a classic funk album. It has some good, but repetitive songs. If I were to listen to this again, I think only 1 or 2 songs would be enough to say I listened to the whole album.
A funky 38 min trip to outer space. Accompanied by some of the founding fathers of funk. Interesting story telling aspect to the album.
Funky fresh, too short though
p good funky funky
yup
It's Parliment. Classic awesomeness. Nothing else to say.
Plain excellence great beat!
Honestly most of this album sounds like generic 70s funk to me. But Mothership connection and give up the funk are truly awesome. Maybe the rest of the album will grow on me, but maybe they're just a greatest hits kind of band rather than an album one. Having said that the musicianship is flawless and there's many interesting sounds throughout. I cant decide if its a a synth on the last track or its a engineer stood outside a toilet stool with mic on the worse day of George Clinton's life. I'd give the album 3 stars as a whole but the two songs i mentioned earn it an extra star.
Great album, a lot of fun tunes and some funk classic songs. Finally know who George Clinton is haha
I love funk. Maybe didn't have any major radio hits I'd know decades later. But solid the whole way thru & got the sound
8/10, better than expected. Turns out I do want the funk
Liked it -
Very good but sometimes too repetitive
Funky.
Omg I love 70s funk.
Never been into funk but this is great
3.5/5
Starts strong and doesn’t give up. A funktatsic four stars.
so funky
“Make my funk the p-funk, I want my funk uncut. Make my funk the p-funk, I want to get funked up”; supergroovalisticprosifunkstication jammed, night if the thumpasorus peoples (ga ga goo ga) jammed. This was a head bouncer of a record
very funky. I like it
I recognized some of the songs but didn't know about the group. Like it!
so much fun, these basslines will be stuck in my head forever
Funk always makes me happy.
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die
Love the funk music. There are aspects of the music that are very 70s, but overall it's pretty good. I wish there were more prominent bass lines though. This is a light 4/5
Funk slam dunk
Absolute FUNK! Wild that this comes from the guy who made funkadelic. Love it for its tasty bass and drums, and the e-Z listenability.
Very fun album. Peak Parliament.
That was fun(ky)!
Really enjoyed this
Funky
Sparks joy
Funky
fat funk
this seems like pretty solid stuff honestly. another in the "good cooking music" folder
Punkkk!!!!!
Make my funk the P Funk. I've blasted this through an outdoor stedson at a bbq before.
FUNK
Oh man that's some FUNK! Got me groovin' all morning. But that last song sounded like farts the whole time though.
Funny and highly energetic grooves
Never been a big fan of funk but this is irresistible good fun and has some mighty grooves. I might be a convert!
Into it. What a fun album. A bit short, but really good!
Classic. Would love to see these guys play this live. Literally been listening to parliament for years. Enjoyment of this music is correlated with the amount of people in the room
So funky! So good.
SEEEEEEEE 8/10
I love the use of a good envelope filter!
I liked it.A but long in points but a good vibe.Weird song about “handcuffing your women” but whatever.Good album with lots of funk.Like a 4.4/5.Some bits dragged on for way too long though.

I'm known as Lollipop Man, alias the Long-Haired Sucker My motto is Make my funk the P-Funk I want my funk uncut You gotta love George Clinton. This is an undeniably funky album. 4/5
Classic funk album. Very good but didnt resonate for me.
It was good to hear the source of SO many hip hop samples. The music was fun but not quite as engaging as I had expected. Still definitely worth a re-listen.
Lovely funky album. Come back to.
Two of the best in the funk genre in short succession - George Clinton fans rejoice! You know exactly what you're getting here - cosmic grooves and fresh hooks that stay in your brain for days after hearing them. Not close to Maggot Brain in terms of accomplishment, but still a lot of fun. Three and a half. Fave track: Give Up The Funk
I liked the funk vibes more than I might have expected. 4 stars
classic funk
wow! Looking forward to hear it again with a glass of gin tonic in my hands. #Funk #R&B #Funk_rock #disco
I really love the humor that tends to be inherent in a lot of funk. I guess it's just natural to be loose, funny, goofy, innuendo-laden, and generally focused on having a good time. I love this record. One of my longer tenured heavy metal bands had an idea once about coming out on stage to a track from this album (I can't remember exactly which one). We found it funny to come out to funk and then go right into some gross death metal but we ended up doing the theme song to Terminator instead. Regardless, many listening sessions happened for this record and hearing it now still brings me back to that time, some ~15 years ago. All of these tracks are pretty solid and I don't really hear any weak ones. Playing this loud really enhances the experience too. I just remembered, we were going to use the track "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)" (what a name) as our entrance song. Man what a terrible hard-left panned synth in this track hahaha. Overall I feel like this is a pretty monumental album for funk and I think it's a solid 4.
FUNKY Seemed ahead of its time and had fun with its concept.
Sweet grooves and phat bass lines all throughout this album that lets the funk flow like volcanic magma, a fun time was had.
good funk album, recognized some of the tunes, definitely interesting.
Oh deze was echt goed!
Yooo leuk
first time listening have heard give up the funk (tear the roof off the sucker)
this funk goes HARD favourite tracks: the whole album
It was fun-ky
I can really appreciate this album and I love the songs (mostly) but it really felt repetitive to me after a while of repeating the same riffs and lyrics for 5-7 minutes. That said this album had so many hits and was really influential so I’m giving it a 4 instead of 3.
Puts the fun in funk
Groovt
Are they by any change a funk band? Why do they need the funk? What are they going to do with it?
It's Parliament. You know you're going to want to shake your groove thang. And I did! Fantastic album. But it's not Maggot Brain. That's a 5 star, and this is close. But the Parliament-Funkadelic collective had already hit their highest highs at this point.
Funk funk fuuunk
Essential funk
Forty minutes of James Brown not turning up for the vocals.
So fun and weird
We got the funk
So god damn funky!
Good representation of their work.
I'm not a funk fanatic, but this album is relentless, and I can't help but love it. Door to door solid.
Funky!
Funky.
Pretty dope beats Funky Fresh
*Mothership Connection (Star Child)
Kinda funky. I didn't mind it.
Great "Funky" album, that I've now added to my playlist
Funk muy chulo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
Some great Funk. Quick album but great from start to finish.
Funk, funk, funkety, funk. Enjoyed it more than I expected.
I dont think I have listened to a full funk album but I have heard Give Up The Funk before. I really enjoyed it even though my missus walked past and asked what in the hell I was listening too. It took me a while to explain the whole Funkadelic/Parliament setup, then she rolled her eyes at me and walked away mumbling curse words. 4/5.
Excellent album.
Super fun album!
Super funky with a capital P. You’re dead inside if you’re not dancing along to this wherever you are.
I would dare to call Handcuffs and Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples earnest. Relatively, of course, and not why any of us are here with ears, but high points nonetheless. May space music never die while I keep trying to dig.

This album is a party that I'm not cool enough to be invited to
Tremendous. Not many albums as cool as this. Give Up The Funk was an absolutely delightful surprise Stays in the rotation
Not the genre I listen to the most, but it still was fun to review it.
Classic.
I think this album was very funky and fun I quite enjoyed them! It was very very nice and funky and fun and I loved.
Dial into radio station: WEFUNK Results: Funktastic Bombs. There's nothing not *fun* about this - a great sounding record, and the musicianship is top-notch (special head-nod for/to that bass in "Give Up the Funk"). If there's a negative for me - and I think it's a fair point that applies to a lot of Parliament's work - it's that the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts; a negative to me meaning that not many of these tracks are actually great *songs* in the traditional sense. The band will lock into a theme and not deviate that much from it, which might be why it weirdly works as an overall piece of work but each song by itself is merely ok. I'd rather listen to the entire album then have a song on a mixtape/playlist. You can clearly hear the massive influence these guys have had on popular music even (especially?) in the past decade; so many of these grooves and sounds are copied or even sampled on a lot of music today. TL;DR: As with all P-Funk, listen to the entire album at once. 7/10 4 stars.
Super fun, genre-funk record. Last two tracks are mega-bangers - and the whole record is full of energy and good humour - kind of like the best of Chili Peppers try to be, but much better.
This is a great album. Not stellar, so still only a 4 but def great. Plenty to like, esp the instrumental-ish sections - excellent musicianship and well produced.
Dope. Super dope.
