Reviews (page 9 of 14)
Happy to be here, but how can I be so late to this party? I am new to P-Funk, Parliament-Funkadelic, etc. This is better than any imitations that have come since. pure enjoyment. stylish, ultra cool, joyful concept and the instrumentation even works. warm vocals, hilarious, and they know it.
I want the bomb, I want the P-funk! Totally joyous, awesomely funky, amazing musicianship, what's not to like? OK, maybe some of the tracks go on a bit longer than they should. But that's a small quibble when talking about funky jams. Contains one of my favourite lines of all time "That's the law around here. You got to put your sunglasses on...so you can FEEL COOL." Never gets old! 4.5 stars.
So much funk. Loved it, great album, the definition of funk.
So funky, so fun to boogie to while getting ready for work. Really enjoyed the vibe of it, and made me think I should explore funk more!
A fun, funky album. Thoroughly enjoyed it
There was a middle-aged white lady in a lab where I once worked who told me her favourite all-time album was Mothership Connection. I confess I never listened to the whole album until now - only Tear the Roof Off. Shame on my funk.
funky bien piola
Absolute Motherfunker! Brightened up my day :)
Super funky!
And on the seventh day, the Lord said, “Let there be funk.” And there was. And it was good.
Me likey da funk. Actually a bit over "Give Up The Funk" but I liked Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalistic..., and Handcuffs.
Feeling properly funksticated.
Along with James Brown P-Funk is responsible for funk as we know it so for that alone we must be thankful. This is certainly funky and weird
This is the funk, right there.
4/5 stars. i'm sure its probably 5/5 but i was busy and couldn't fully get into it. def a pioneer in sound. funky & groovy. so much going on in the background, but it makes me want to try cocaine from the 70s to get on their brainwave.
I love funk but this just doesn’t do it for me. I want to be able to give it a 5 but it just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe it’s a bit unfocused, seems like a cool jam but never really develops into a proper track? I can hear how influential it is, but I just can’t love it. It’s a prime example of the recommended tracks that auto play on Spotify after the album finishes being much better than what I was supposed to be listening to.
Haven't listened to funk much but I really liked this one. Sometime on the second listen it got too overestimating though.
You are either a Clintonite or not. If you are this is with the early Funkadelic albums much the best place to start. Pretty damn good from start of finish. And like all good funk albums its chief subject is of course the funk. Getting it, having it, being it, losing it...
This album provides an interesting contrast with Maggot Brain, the previous Parliament album that I got on this list. Whereas that album was ponderous and often dark (though also very fun once you get through the first track), this album is much more lighthearted. The addition of horns from James Brown's band really adds a lot to the group. It has some absolute classics on it, and even the songs that I didn't know were all good. It's also nice to see dance music that is able to build slowly over a long track rather than focusing on a more stereotypical formula. The influence of this album is really hard to state. It provides so much of the sound for West Coast rap in the early 90s, but it's presence is everywhere in electronic music and modern dance music as well. 4/5
funky punky
There’s a lot of funk content here, how much they love funk, how they gotta get it that funk, how funk fares in space, basic funkenomics etc. Things got weird with the Funk fart song, not sure what that was about but I liked this overall 3.5 rounded up to 4 bc it was funky fun.
Good funky bits
FUNK. Favorite track: Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication
The album cover is a delight and the song names are goofy in the best way. The opening track is a great intro to the giddy space funk that follows. Sometimes it's just about having fun. Did I need to hear this album before I died? YES! Do I want to hear it again? You bet I do! Favorite: Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof Off The Sucker)
A classic. Nice to hear the source material for so much of what came later.
Fun. Kee. 4/5.
Funk was never my cup of tea, but later bands obviously cite this as a major influence.
Funky group with funky sounds i love Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off This Sucker) and also Supergroovalisticprosifunkication (The Bumps Bump).
3.5/5 not a huge funk fan, but was a fun listen
Funky as FUUUUUUUUCK
Funk indeed Pretty fun listen, I would buy this record if I stumbled on it
Enjoyable and fun. A little repetitive at points but overall a good listen.
this was pretty solid. i enjoyed it
Good album, did Gotye get some inspiration from this?
Mothership Connection, indeed. Classic Parliament.
7/10 give up the funk, but this one is actually a nice one
Great energy
You can see where funk and rock got fused together here. It's definitely a Bootsy album. Highly recommended!
It’s pretty good not what I expected but good
This does exactly what it says on the tin! It funks the hell out of the space! Love it!
Hressandi fönk, flottar útsetningar.
Love funk! This was a lot of fun
What a blast of an album. So dancy and catchy and fun the whole time. 8/10
Really fun classic funk album that didn’t overstay its welcome but did feel slightly repetitive at times
you can never go wrong with some 70s funk
hard to argue with this
It’s funk, what more needs to be said?
Muy buen álbum. No lo había escuchado nunca
Having listened to The Chronic at an early age, I was aware that most of the beats come from Parliament, but it was still fun to discover and listen to the originals of where they came from. Great Album!
Well, wow. Some incredible funktastic funky fun funk here. I'm coming back to this one.
I do indeed feel funked up, as promised. It will be interesting figuring out where the lines between soul and funk (which I apparently like) and hip hop, R&B and rap (which I'm not sure I do like) lie over time.
Funky as hell though lost me a little towards the end. Really enjoyed.
Man, imagine not liking PFunk. Couldn’t be me. A-. These songs are meant to be heard live, but I can’t imagine going any lowee.
It's a funkadelic funkalicious funktastically funky Parliament album. The Mothership came down and influenced thousands of artists in the years to come.
Funky
Great funk! Fun times, with a new appreciation for themusic of the times
not listenable for long but good
4/5. Love it
2nd August 2022 Listened in the morning before going to the office. Saw Sav and Booty in the evening to chat stag stuff. Love it, still funkadelic after all this time.
Brilliant
Great!
Mjao jag gillar funk!
very funky!
This is my shit. Never heard of this band before but definitely will more after this one. The sax, hats and kickdrum that come in at the second half of "P-Funk" were mucho mucho bueno (just have to get through the vapid narration for the first 2 mins). Who knew sci-fi hip hop was a thing.
LOVE these guys. What a classic album intro for George Clinton. Maybe still prefer funkadelic slightly more.
Great album to start the journey
I like the original Funk genre, and this album is a great example of it. The songs are fun to listen to and the rhythm throughout the album feels great, and I particularly like the opening track's radio welcome. If I have any one issue with the album is that every song in it feels "good" but nothing feels "great". A thoroughly enjoyable listen for anyone who's a fan of the genre and somehow doesn't know the album, and overall really solid.
Busy album. Cool to hear the roots to Dre and Snoop Dogg's Let me Ride here. Parliament brings the funk here. Mothership Connection belongs on this list, no doubt. It's more of a feeling than anything though. It's about the funk, making the funk, showing others how to funk, all things funky. That makes for fun album, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I mean, look - t's Parliament. There are a lot of albums that have this much swagger and don't have even half as much to offer. I'm looking at you, The Chronic. This is just effortlessly good. It's not even engaging the whole time, but every bit of it is right. I might give this 5 stars and it'll be the first one I've given 5 stars that is kind of a background album for me. But I might not. We'll see tomorrow.
Funky. Great music
Quick and all funk
Groovy, pretty upbeat and fun
Funking good. I might've gotten bored if it wasn't so short, but it's an album about getting groovy on a spaceship, what's not to love
Great Funk, a lot of talented artist involve in the project. Fews hits, but good overall vibe, that will put a smile on your face :)
George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell are the best funk power trio out there. I discovered them in my long quest of listening to all Buckethead's collaborations and their music stayed with me. What a groovy insane album that had a strong influence on the 80s/90s hip-hop. Really like this one!
They got the Funk.
Truly a very funky album. One way you can tell is by how often they use the word "funk" in song titles and lyrics. Speaking of song titles: Night Of The Thumpasorus People really is a pretty amazing title.
Funky
Another unexpected hit! Couldn't resist the funk.
Solid album.
I'd like to live in this album. I need to live in this album. Just an all around party.
Cool vibes and some really good tunes. Like the opener and of course “Give up the Funk”. 3.5 and rounding up because the world is a better place with Parliament in the mix.
Roller Skates not included. The opener sets the scene and the grooves keep on coming.
Oh yea, this is some good stuff. Super solid album by Parliament, anything George Clinton does just drips with groove and style. So many layers, sounds and things going here, and you really get the sense they're just having fun with it. The one minor complaint I have is I felt like the songs dragged out just a little long sometimes, especially with all the repeated chorus sections. To me, this is a very strong 4. I feel like it's missing just a bit of a "je ne sais quoi" to push it into 5 territory, but it's still a great album. Fav Tracks: P. Funk, Give Up The Funk
It seems that the influences from this album - or that were formative for this album - are ever-present in modern music. A quick check of "WhoSampled" shows 70 songs that sampled this album, and assuredly the non-credited influences are much more difficult to track. A good education, great sound, and a little too funky to put on repeat.
Funky sound that I really loved
Funk outta here
It's silly, funny, and self-parodying, but the groove is infectious - plus it's very sexy music. Puts me back in teenage mid-seventies discos. Can hardly distinguish one track from another, they all have the same driving rhythm - it's just one long continuous stream of funk - but that's OK because I like it. They must have had a lot of fun playing it. Dig that crazy beat, man!
Very good, very funky. I really liked the concept and style of the album. 100% relistening.
This is great party music (as funk always is) with a cosmic futuristic sound. It's a loose jazzy concept album that doesn't take itself too seriously. All in all a pretty solid album with nothing sticking out as being particularly memorable or bad.
Oh yeah!
P-Funk, come on, who wants to get funked up?! awww yeeeah!
Pretty awesome funk album. Don’t think many people have done it better than parliament. This album has some classics and some other nice songs that were new to me. This is a nice funk album. 8.0/10
4.5
Funk muy chulo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
So close to 5 stars. So funky, but the fart bass on the last track was just toooo much for my ears.
I liked this quite a bit more than the other funk album that was generated earlier (Maggot Brain by Funkadelic). I think the instrumentals are cool and fairly easy to listen to without being especially boring.
Good funk album, enjoyed it - more upbeat than Maggot Brain. Think I still liked maggot brain more
It's good, cracks me up real hard. Reminds me of the key and peele Skit.
Perfect for what I was in the mood for whilst running, so fun and funky
Ah man the FUNKY FUNK. So fricken funky I can't handle it. But in a very good way. So fun and a bit silly at times. Puts you in a good mood. Loved it!
Funk! FUNK! FUNKY FUNK ALL OVER
This is great - had never heard of the band or the album (but do know their other work as Funkadelic). Not a bad track on this album, but none that are absolutely stellar, stand-out individually either - that's why it only gets a 4 for me even though I really like it and will be listening again. It has great energy, a bit of attitude, and a really cool sound that fits beautifully with the zany track titles, lyrics, and broader theme of the album.
Funkyyyyy
Ktebt Saf7tine Men Kteb 3l Bouheli Mte3 Dostoevsky. Still With The sickness Chwayet. Ahmed Needs Help, That's Why.
I fell down a PFunk rabbit hole a few years ago. It's a fun time. It's also need hearing where a lot of the Dr Dre/Snoop samples come from.
I'm not the biggest Funk fan, but there's something about the way Parliament does it that just works for me!
Great funk album. I feel like I heard half of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic in these 7 songs
Deep basses. Psychedelic atmosphere.
In the summer of 1993, at a robust 12 years old, I was in love with Dr. Dre’s “the Chronic”. Way too young to be listening; the beats and grooves were so enticing I just had to dive in head first. I had no idea the music I had fallen in love with was actually sampled and based off of a lot of this album. So, here I am almost 30 years later falling in love with this album. A+, so much fucking fun to listen to. I found myself moving and reacting to this the way 12 year old me reacted to “Let Me Ride” or “The Chronic” back on those hot summer days near the apartment complex pool. Instant 5 stars for me, so glad I found this.
Always a good groove with Parliament, and I heard of licks and beats that I recognize from later work like Dr Dre
Функ
The cover looks like a heavy metal album .... and surprise there was some really rocking tracks here! Fav tracks : Give Up the Funk
I should preface this by saying I'm not an expert on funk music, but at least off of the top of my head, I'm not really aware of any other concept albums that play within the funk genre, but it seems like a perfect genre to play around with in this way. Further contributing to the idea that these guys don't take themselves TOO seriously, they centered their concept album around something that was already fairly corny during the 70s: space and sci-fi. That said, space-y synth lends itself so well to funk music, and these guys clearly understood that! I was surprised when "Give Up the Funk" started and I recognized the song -- so iconic! I love putting band names and track titles to iconic songs that are embedded in our cultures without us being completely aware, often due to their use in movies and television! My personal enjoyment of this album comes in at about 4/5, but the album's worthiness in this project is a definite 5/5.
This has gotta be the funkiest album I've ever heard. If you like funk at all, this is a must hear.
Liked it, very funky as the name suggest
So good
Pelgaona
Funky
Great p-funk, but lots of talking. Not conducive to working...
Great Funk for the Whole Family! Favorites: "P-Funk", "Mothership Connection", "Give Up The Funk"
Funky
Very fun album.
Wow, crazy experience. Never heard of them before and was super surprised. Some great bangers on here! Fav tracks: Handcuffs, Unfunky UFO
4!! megabangerzz
Oh damn yes. This is funk. Smooth, tight, just enough synth, chunky bass, and a sense of fun.
Funky af
FUNKAYYYY
pure funk
Great
Funky and mind expanding
WEEEE WANT THE FUNK
Absolute funky vibe
7/10, Funky
One of the best funk albums. Especially the opening monologue adds to the album experience.
1 of 1001
8/10 nice funk album, kinda cheesy
8/10. Really sounded like they were just making mouth-farting noises for a lot of the last track, but had some really enjoyable parts as well, and I enjoyed that they had a silly sci-fi conceit. I'd say 8/10 despite being a bit too funky for my taste
It's kind of silly how little i've listened to this band. Loved it
Party music! Bootsy is so sweet with it!
Funky AF
Funk
Gloriously over-the -top seventies funk.
Liked it
Just love listening to these guys. Fun!
Funky
Very funky!
I know... For all of the times that I bang on albums for repetitive, simple lyrics... But it's funk? And I want my funk uncut? But it's so good, and light years ahead of their time. Musically a 4.5, lyrically a 2-3, replay value 4.5, and 5 for legacy and influence. I can't give this one less than a 4.
I don't often listen to funk but when I do I usually like it. And this was top-notch funk by the master himself. Really gets my butt moving. 4 stars.
Never heard of this band. Recognized a ton of the samples from 90s hip hop. Enjoyed the album!
Excelente experiencia funk!
Rating: 8/10 Best songs:P-funk, mothership connection,
Record oozes funk. Extremely good album.
Funky as hell!
P-Funk. It's funk but with some weird back story linked to space. I think. Dropping acid would probably help. Best Tracks: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up); Unfunky UFO; Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker);
Oh hells yes, funk-tastic!
I have a disappointing lack of funk in my life and this album cured that. My kiddo loved dancing to it too.
Not my absolute favorite, but I appreciate it for the funk that it is.
Funky funk funk...P-funk...uncut funk ;-)
Funky party music - like it
Very cool listen
Funk is so much fun. I think I prefer it a little diluted though. Great album.
Definitive funk sound. Prominent use of spoken word. Exceptional vocal performance on “Handcuffs”. Virtuosic rhythm section. A number of catchy melodies. Deserves multiple listens.
Interesting old school funk, did know some of the songs though didn't know the album
This album is just fun. Give Us The Funk is classic and Handcuffs was another fun and funny song. Best listened to as an album I think as opposed to picking and choosing songs from it. You can see why Warren G and Nate Dogg pulled from it.
No doubt why is the foundational funk album
It's funk! Not my style, but sounded nice.
WE WANT THE FUNK, HERE COMES THE FUNK On a side note, I now understand what 'funk' means
Surprising how much Parliament has influenced and been sampled by hip hop/pop/all music. Fantastic! I love the concept of putting black people in situations that were never thought of before...Mothership, baby! WOO!
Very accessible and groovy. Clean disco funk basslines. The chanty slogans are catchy enough, but the vocals are the weakest point (although they typify George Clinton P-Funk).
Absolutely class, funkademic, 4/5
Never heard this album before and really enjoyed it.
Always happy to have to listen to funk!
OK, another story. In my high school days, Sudbury would not be mistaken for diverse. Of course we thought it was diverse since it had Italians AND French Canadians!. There were very few people of colour. One of my friends was black and when I crashed at his place he played a bunch of funk which, at the time, was a million miles away from what I was otherwise listening to. The only band name I remember was Brothers Johnson but who knows, he could have been spinning Parliament too. This album certainly sounds like the stuff we were listening to back in the day. It was influential for me so whether or not it was Parliament I have a good rating for the genre and the year of release.
Is he fucking the controls of the spaceship? why are his legs up like that? Amazing album
Fabulous Funk ! One of my favourite genres. Loved it! ***/* ?
Super funk 🕺
funkadelic funkiness!
Whats not to like?!
buen disco
Funky. Last song sounds like farts.
Very funky -- really enjoyed, despite not having listened to much music in the genre before
Très funky. Bon mood funk.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this, I did.
Some pretty funky shit!
Oh yeah, funky as anything. And sci-fi psychedelic as anything else! Fave track - tempted to say "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" due to the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" connection, but I'm gonna go with "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" as it comes across as a funky manifesto...
I enjoyed this album and the funk.
Good album. I've listened to a lot of funk music and there's something about this album that gives it another twist. It's very psychedelic and dare I say... out of this world!
I didn’t realize how many of these famous tracks were from ONE album. Wow
Whoa! Did not expect this intergalactic journey!
Pure unadulterated funk. Can't beat it. Highlights: -Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication -Give Up The Funk
Can hear heaps of Thunderfox in there, especially Unfunky UFO. Didn't like the fart synth in Night of the Thumpasorus, overpowered an otherwise sick closing track
Not really my style, but it's fun to get into that 70s funk once in a while.
Funky
Super duper funky. Short and sweet. This album has a specific vibe and when it's right it's right. No standout songs but the whole thing is just good.
Great album. Heard it before but was an enjoyable callback to some funky times
Very groovy. Nice pick, that I would have not listened to other wise.
Funky funky vibes. A true classic on the record too
I like funk a lot. I just don't like it enough to listen to a whole album through and through
It's like the sound of a sexy-ass party beamed straight into my head and it's dope as hell
Very unique, but maybe a little bit too much
Funk is fun as hell and I have not listened to it before. As my frame of reference for funk, I feel like this bar is very high. The only other exposure I have is Awaken My Love and I think this meets that on a funk level. Will Revisit, no favorite songs, 7/8.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaassssss
Spotify. Fave song “Mothership Connection”.
Enjoyable!!! Very funky and fresh and it put me in a good mood.
Funkiest album I may have ever heard
FUNKY.
Good album, even if not really my style. When it comes to funk, I prefer the fusion with rock (as in record by Funkadelic in this same project) than with disco. But, in any case, this is at least 3 or 4 stara (probably, for my personal taste, more in the 3 star range).
7/10 good fun and some gnarly synth noises here (farty one at Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples)! Amazing song names. Highlight: Give Up the Funk
Funky shit, semi repetitive, enjoyable in the heat. Very nice
High highs and forgettable lows, but I generally enjoyed it
Cool album. Mothership Connection (Star Child) was my favorite. Overall I love the aesthetic but not a lot stood out for me. 5.5/10
Not my favourite album by Parliament- still decent heavy funk
hell yeeaah soul
++: P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Give Up the Funk 8Tear the Roof of the Sucker), Night of the Thompasorus Peoples +: Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, Handcuffs +-: Mothership Connection (Star Child) 7,6/10
(Let me put my sunglasses on so I can see what I'm doing) . . . I can dig it, but I can't dig it more than a 3.
You either like Parliament, or you don't. I'm sort of in the middle.
I would gladly listen to most P Funk records a dozen times. Other than Give Up the Funk, I didn't have a lot of songs that cut through for me. Still, a very pleasant funky ride to space.
Funky!
This album starts off with it's mission statement: Get ready! Things are about to get funky. This is funky! It's going to be so funky, you better be prepared. Once we get passed all that silliness, this album is kind of underwhelming. Super repetitive. Eye-roll inducing cringe (I'm looking at you, Handcuffs). Give Up The Funk was fun, I guess.
I think good, also funny how some really dorky synth parts got to stay on there. Today this would be much more polished, for the worse
The Funkadelics and the Parliament, they were the best of the genre in my era
Funky!
Realizing that Dr. Dre had a field day with this album, between The Chronic and Doggystyle. Basically every song contained a sample I recognized, so that was fun. As for the music itself, funk was promised and most certainly delivered; the bass tone on Thumpasorus Peoples is about the funkiest shit I've ever heard. I see its influence but it's just shy of a 4 as I don't quite see myself returning to it so much! Standouts: P-Funk • Give Up The Funk • (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) • Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples
Classic funk album.
Funky
Not their best effort
so thats where music comes from
I know it’s because of the genre but album was a bit constant. I enjoyed but not an “OMG!!” album.
6.9.26 Favorite Song: Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof Off The Sucker) Rating: 3.5/5
As a self-proclaimed "funk sceptic", I have to mildly eat my words, because this was actually very enjoyable. Specifically, the Afrofuturism elements here, both sonically and in the album cover, are very cool, and the backing tracks are teeming with sensual saxophone and plinky-plonky piano. There's still something I'm not crazy about, namely the overly-conversational style of the lead vocals which, other than the small sung refrains, seem to populate the entirety of this album, as if someone is playing a really good instrumental album next to a table of friends reuniting in a busy restaurant.
From the get with "P-Funk", just that voice, sax, soft beat and cymbals... then into the backing singers with bass and synth squeaks... this is going to be one incredibly funky album. I thought that a nearly 8 minute track, of what feels like exposition to the rest of the album, would annoy me [see by the end for this point]. The pace, which I can only describe as that of a storytellers (slow and well-textured), from the first track continues into "Mothership Connection". Another track laced with satisfyingly funky arrangements multiple vocals that them feel more like characters than singers in a song. This was another nice track, but it is making we wonder if the pace is ever going to pick up. By the time "Unfunky UFO" played, I wasn't too confident in the pace changing any time soon. The delivery, although pleasant to the ears, is less that of tracks on an album and more like a play; a funky voyage through space that insists on showing us *all* the stars and rocks on the way to the sun. And again, we plod through with "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication", though I really enjoyed the two juxtaposed vocals on this one. Favourite track was "Handcuffs". His vocals were amazing on this track. To be followed by "Give Up The Funk" is a real shame, as the repetition in this one drove me crazy by it's end. Odd to arrange two really contrasting tracks this close together, considering the way the rest of the album was arranged. I suppose it had to belong somewhere, and it was going to show up whichever track came after it. Overall, this album was a satisfying listen, and I can see myself listening to it's tracks in the future, but in isolation. That is possibly a sin, considering that that bastardizes the intent of having all of these tracks together on an album.
First real introduction to funk. Sounded good but didn't really connect with me
Yeah, funky. It’s on my driving playlist now.
Kinda repetitive but I didn't dislike it too much
Very groovy, it's no tower of power. But I liked it.
I'm starting to think funk is close to impenetrable for me. It's the long-winded songs, the loose structures and some of the more dramatic aspects of it that just don't have me. I love it when funk is funneled through other genres (it's been a great source for many hip-hop beats, and I think Prince's Sign O The Times is a great example of funk crossover), but George Clinton's pure theatricality is hard for me to swallow. It's not really bad, it's just not the most engaging thing in the world to me. Closer to 3.5 stars but no half ratings here, unfortunately.
ok
I tend to rate higher these alternative genres to the mainstream, mostly because they amaze me how well individualised and full of character were for their time. But by now I heard better similar albums to this one here.
Classic P-funk - great rhythms, tight band, simple lyrics, all repeated ad infinitum. George Clinton and company defined the genre, and they're really, really good at it.
Glad to discover this band. Very funky. Strong 3 to a light 4
campy and fun I like the line "We have returned to claim the pyramids" reminds me of the guys on Junkion planet in Sam's favorite transformers movie
I’m not sure if I just wasn’t in the mood for this one. I’d typically love a funky soul album. I still enjoyed it overall I think. But I couldn’t quite get into It.
Album 41/1001. Listened 6/11/2026. Took me back to college in the 90s! Definitely good beats and jams, but not necessarily one of my faves. Might listen to a few songs here and there.
gotta have that funk
not fucking with the funk/swing vibes rn it’s not terrible but I think that if I was significantly higher it would be a lot better of an album
Good vibes, fun and full of funk
more George Clinton funk (which by itself is pretty good,) but with a flavouring of sci-fi on top. not complaining! 7/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION (STAR CHILD,) UNFUNKY UFO, HANDCUFFS LEAST FAVOURITE SONGS: P-FUNK (WANTS TO GET FUNKED UP)
Disco and UFOs? Of course!
I’ve always enjoyed Funkadelic more than Parliament. Rating: 2.9
Joyous 1970s funk!
Very lengthy
Good album alot of funk
It was okay. Felt a bit gimmicky.
I like it but an album of it get repetitive fast, won't be getting many relistens from me
I've had a lifetime to work out that I'm not really a fan of 70s funk, stiff-limbed, joyless Englishman that I am. However, this was quite fun! I'll never listen to it again, hence the three star rating, but it passed the time perfectly pleasantly. I nodded my head and tapped my toes at the requisite moments. Made sure nobody was watching first, mind you 🧐 Can't have anyone seeing me having a good time...

6.5/10 - Good funk with a few stand out songs. Not a huge fan of all the ad libbing as it detracted from the songs at points.
Super funky and it's a good vibe. It does get a bit repetitive at parts. 7/10
Not my personal style, but certainly very funky! I think that handcuffs was my favorite
My good god, this was very funky! Do I like this level of funk, I am not sure. I enjoyed it but also was sort of glad when it finished. Maybe it’s just too funky for me.
Funky! Definitely some good stuff, but for the most part they weren’t really songs that spoke to me.
Muito Groove e funky! Álbum bem divertido e dançante. QKZXHBB Khan.
funky
Of course I like Parliament. Bonafide and funkalicious. But George Clinton's groundbreaking band will always be Funkadelic. Parliament is more polished and commercial, which will never be an issue on my book. However, I love how animalistic and unhinged Funkadelic is.
Was that last song supposed to just be a bunch of fart noises? Give up the Funk was a fun surprise. But now I don't know where I even know that song from. Anyway, I dig the funky vibes for the most part.
Very funky. If I'm in the right mood that's great, otherwise it can be a bit much.
Very funkalicious, really like da first few tunes
Probably more used to the funkadelic maggot brain sound. Decent listen but not my favorite. Probably not great for the gym
3 1/2
Good album!
Funky but never fully drew me in.
Just some decent funky music, wasn’t blown away. Nothing to complain about tho
Very cool, different, but a bit repetitive
It was cool, pretty funky. But not my vibe.
Felt very similar to Tosh's Legalize It: A genre album, one I don't listen to much, which gives it novelty, but for me just doesn't have the je ne sais quoi.
I don't really like regular jazz music, but this funky version of jazz is pretty good. It's groovy and catchy and makes you want to dance. It was a musical journey through space.
Never heard of it. Wasn’t expecting a funk jazz disco type record but I enjoyed it. I rate it like 3.5/5 but I have to be somewhat harsh or I’ll end up with a million 4s. It’s a 7/10 but 3/5.
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑, maybe less if not for the Unfunky UFO Feels crazy to rate this low after getting funked so funktastically in my earhole, but having loved "Unfunky UFO" and "Give Up The Funk" for my whole life, I'm almost a little disappointed by the inferior funkometer readings on most of the other tracks. Most of these grooves were sparser, slower, almost as if the tempo was about 10 bpm behind, and I wonder if it's the sort of thing that hits better when you're stoned? Sober, it's not nearly so hypnotic. But I cannot be clear enough that under no circumstances will I be giving up the funk. No three star rating could wash my goats Parliament 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing
Some good stuff here, but a little underwhelming. Still enjoyable!
Idk i dont really have any strong feelings abt this one. 6.5/10
Getting Funky 🕺
Never heard this album before and listened to it while on a spin bike and really enjoyed it. It was fun and weird sounded good in headphones
guter Funk
If you do a shot every time he says funk you will be legally blind/dead. Also, insanely farty song at the end.
Probably one of the most influential funk albums that I know of. 80s and early 90s hip hop owes a lot to this album.
