Reviews (page 10 of 15)
Very groovy. Nice pick, that I would have not listened to other wise.
Funky funky vibes. A true classic on the record too
I like funk a lot. I just don't like it enough to listen to a whole album through and through
It's like the sound of a sexy-ass party beamed straight into my head and it's dope as hell
Very unique, but maybe a little bit too much
Funk is fun as hell and I have not listened to it before. As my frame of reference for funk, I feel like this bar is very high. The only other exposure I have is Awaken My Love and I think this meets that on a funk level. Will Revisit, no favorite songs, 7/8.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaassssss
Spotify. Fave song “Mothership Connection”.
Enjoyable!!! Very funky and fresh and it put me in a good mood.
Funkiest album I may have ever heard
FUNKY.
Loved it
It's okay

its funky.
- i like the storytelling of the album -not really a genre i typically listen to, i didn't mind it -unsure of the replay value on this - i think it does the genre very well - i was moving and grooving
Consistent quality record, little too consistent in terms of sound.
Certainly interesting and you can see how that sound was used for early 90s west coast hip hop. Good stuff.
Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication / Give Up The Funk
So progressive and funky do like it but needs a few listens
That sure was funky. A good listen for sure.
Very funky.
Well, it's funk. You either like it or you don't, but if you're looking for something beyond a funk type of fun, you're likely to be disappointed. It's all vibes with this type of music, I guess.
2.5 stars Funky goodness. Won’t revisit but it was fine.
funky, good mood and energy, didnt expect it caught me off guard
take me back to the 70s already

Love this!
Back in the 80s I somehow got into George Clinton's Some of My Best Jokes Are Friends, very polished and funky though eccentric, not for everyone. I had listened to a bit of Parliament but it never really connected. Listening to this album straight through I was disappointed - the style was influential and still going strong but I hear too much going on, to a point that undercuts the sound as a whole. Particularly annoying 70s keyboards floating around and weakening the rhythm with random burbles. Some of the songs work but unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as an album. I'll say it's Mix of Good and Bad, 5/10.
Decent enough funk, probably heard most of it before but never knew it was all the same band. All sounds the same to me really
Today I was feeling quite funky, and by funky I mean P-funky with Parliment's Mothership Connection. I was quite excited for this project as I do have quite the soft spot for Funk and Soul music, but I just wasn't super wowed by this project throughout the entire 38 minute runtime. The two opening tracks are really great long winded pieces from the band but everything after that felt not as fulfilling and rich in my personal opinion. Unfunky UFO and Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples were both the weakest points in the album which really bummed me out as they seemed to have a lot of charm but were a bit repetitive at times. This is far from a bad project and I see why some people consider it a Funk classic, but I am just not seeing it myself and that really bums me out.
P-funkalicious
Zesty. Perhaps a tad too zesty. This was a lot for a Wednesday morning. I am glad I listened, but would need to be in a very specific mood to listen again.
I kind of love the idea of funky aliens. I probably won’t ever return to this album, but the beats were infectious and it did make me smile.
Mid
Enjoyed the vibe on this one but didn’t quite dig it overall as much as I was hoping to. I’m sure this is just me misunderstanding funk music but it seemed looser and more repetitive than I would have liked.
Probably the best album artwork so far. Way too much chatter/narration over the first few tracks that distract from otherwise good songs. Some songs get a little repetitive at times, but I think most funk fans see that as a feature rather than a flaw. A fun enough album to have on in the background more so than an intense listening session. Also, Thumpasorus sounds like there are just fart noises through half of it
Of the two sides of the collective, I definitely prefer Funkadelic’s heavier rock/funk over Parliament’s more straightforward, dance-oriented funk. That said, this is still a really fun listen. The grooves are infectious, even if the vocals are a bit too upfront for my taste.
I want a chance to get funky too
Funk isn't my genre, but this wasn't bad -- was definitely tapping my foot
funky, groovy
Good but not great. Still love this band
Had a good ride, felt like i had a good flow-state going on the DH trails. Then hopped into the car and this kept the flow state going. Good fun. We want the funk, gotta have the funk.
Packed full of funky power for its time, carries the repetition of the style without much effort to repel it, but it does sound good It can outfunk the funkiest, on earth or beyond
Funkalicious
Music is great. The chat over it is OK sometimes and way too campy at others
It was good and funky, not really any standouts for me
Funkified
Funkalicious!
These guys love some funk. Tough to not want to funk with them. A little repetitive and some weird sound choices, but this deserves a 3.25 for getting my bootie shaking.
This funk was funking funky! 3.5/5
Has some bangers, was a fun album to listen to
a melanina sempre melhora tudo né bem música pra deixar tocando em casa gostei vou salvar
Phunky sunglasses so you can keep cool 😎
"Mothership Connection" by Parliament is a classic funky concept album. I find concept of this album interesting about Afro-futurism where black people promote funk music in outer space. From this album, some tracks are great to listen like "P-Funk", "Give up the Funk" and "Unfunky UFO".I like the funkiness from the album. What I don't like about this album is there is too much many spoken word passages and tracks length are dragged too much that doesn't benefited the album. It is fun to listen from start but due to long song length it feel disconnected from the album and has weaker ending track. Overall a good funky album but lengthy songs and weaker ending track are the downside from this album.
Good album, even if not really my style. When it comes to funk, I prefer the fusion with rock (as in record by Funkadelic in this same project) than with disco. But, in any case, this is at least 3 or 4 stara (probably, for my personal taste, more in the 3 star range).
7/10 good fun and some gnarly synth noises here (farty one at Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples)! Amazing song names. Highlight: Give Up the Funk
today i found out that ride by dr dre is a sample
Funky shit, semi repetitive, enjoyable in the heat. Very nice
High highs and forgettable lows, but I generally enjoyed it
Cool album. Mothership Connection (Star Child) was my favorite. Overall I love the aesthetic but not a lot stood out for me. 5.5/10
Not my favourite album by Parliament- still decent heavy funk
hell yeeaah soul
++: P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Give Up the Funk 8Tear the Roof of the Sucker), Night of the Thompasorus Peoples +: Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, Handcuffs +-: Mothership Connection (Star Child) 7,6/10
(Let me put my sunglasses on so I can see what I'm doing) . . . I can dig it, but I can't dig it more than a 3.
You either like Parliament, or you don't. I'm sort of in the middle.
I would gladly listen to most P Funk records a dozen times. Other than Give Up the Funk, I didn't have a lot of songs that cut through for me. Still, a very pleasant funky ride to space.
Funky!
This album starts off with it's mission statement: Get ready! Things are about to get funky. This is funky! It's going to be so funky, you better be prepared. Once we get passed all that silliness, this album is kind of underwhelming. Super repetitive. Eye-roll inducing cringe (I'm looking at you, Handcuffs). Give Up The Funk was fun, I guess.
I think good, also funny how some really dorky synth parts got to stay on there. Today this would be much more polished, for the worse
The Funkadelics and the Parliament, they were the best of the genre in my era
Funky!
Realizing that Dr. Dre had a field day with this album, between The Chronic and Doggystyle. Basically every song contained a sample I recognized, so that was fun. As for the music itself, funk was promised and most certainly delivered; the bass tone on Thumpasorus Peoples is about the funkiest shit I've ever heard. I see its influence but it's just shy of a 4 as I don't quite see myself returning to it so much! Standouts: P-Funk • Give Up The Funk • (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) • Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples
Classic funk album.
Funky
Not their best effort
so thats where music comes from
I know it’s because of the genre but album was a bit constant. I enjoyed but not an “OMG!!” album.
6.9.26 Favorite Song: Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof Off The Sucker) Rating: 3.5/5
As a self-proclaimed "funk sceptic", I have to mildly eat my words, because this was actually very enjoyable. Specifically, the Afrofuturism elements here, both sonically and in the album cover, are very cool, and the backing tracks are teeming with sensual saxophone and plinky-plonky piano. There's still something I'm not crazy about, namely the overly-conversational style of the lead vocals which, other than the small sung refrains, seem to populate the entirety of this album, as if someone is playing a really good instrumental album next to a table of friends reuniting in a busy restaurant.
From the get with "P-Funk", just that voice, sax, soft beat and cymbals... then into the backing singers with bass and synth squeaks... this is going to be one incredibly funky album. I thought that a nearly 8 minute track, of what feels like exposition to the rest of the album, would annoy me [see by the end for this point]. The pace, which I can only describe as that of a storytellers (slow and well-textured), from the first track continues into "Mothership Connection". Another track laced with satisfyingly funky arrangements multiple vocals that them feel more like characters than singers in a song. This was another nice track, but it is making we wonder if the pace is ever going to pick up. By the time "Unfunky UFO" played, I wasn't too confident in the pace changing any time soon. The delivery, although pleasant to the ears, is less that of tracks on an album and more like a play; a funky voyage through space that insists on showing us *all* the stars and rocks on the way to the sun. And again, we plod through with "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication", though I really enjoyed the two juxtaposed vocals on this one. Favourite track was "Handcuffs". His vocals were amazing on this track. To be followed by "Give Up The Funk" is a real shame, as the repetition in this one drove me crazy by it's end. Odd to arrange two really contrasting tracks this close together, considering the way the rest of the album was arranged. I suppose it had to belong somewhere, and it was going to show up whichever track came after it. Overall, this album was a satisfying listen, and I can see myself listening to it's tracks in the future, but in isolation. That is possibly a sin, considering that that bastardizes the intent of having all of these tracks together on an album.
First real introduction to funk. Sounded good but didn't really connect with me
Yeah, funky. It’s on my driving playlist now.
Kinda repetitive but I didn't dislike it too much
Very groovy, it's no tower of power. But I liked it.
I'm starting to think funk is close to impenetrable for me. It's the long-winded songs, the loose structures and some of the more dramatic aspects of it that just don't have me. I love it when funk is funneled through other genres (it's been a great source for many hip-hop beats, and I think Prince's Sign O The Times is a great example of funk crossover), but George Clinton's pure theatricality is hard for me to swallow. It's not really bad, it's just not the most engaging thing in the world to me. Closer to 3.5 stars but no half ratings here, unfortunately.
ok
I tend to rate higher these alternative genres to the mainstream, mostly because they amaze me how well individualised and full of character were for their time. But by now I heard better similar albums to this one here.
Classic P-funk - great rhythms, tight band, simple lyrics, all repeated ad infinitum. George Clinton and company defined the genre, and they're really, really good at it.
Glad to discover this band. Very funky. Strong 3 to a light 4
campy and fun I like the line "We have returned to claim the pyramids" reminds me of the guys on Junkion planet in Sam's favorite transformers movie
I’m not sure if I just wasn’t in the mood for this one. I’d typically love a funky soul album. I still enjoyed it overall I think. But I couldn’t quite get into It.
Album 41/1001. Listened 6/11/2026. Took me back to college in the 90s! Definitely good beats and jams, but not necessarily one of my faves. Might listen to a few songs here and there.
gotta have that funk
not fucking with the funk/swing vibes rn it’s not terrible but I think that if I was significantly higher it would be a lot better of an album
Good vibes, fun and full of funk
more George Clinton funk (which by itself is pretty good,) but with a flavouring of sci-fi on top. not complaining! 7/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION (STAR CHILD,) UNFUNKY UFO, HANDCUFFS LEAST FAVOURITE SONGS: P-FUNK (WANTS TO GET FUNKED UP)
Disco and UFOs? Of course!
I’ve always enjoyed Funkadelic more than Parliament. Rating: 2.9
Joyous 1970s funk!
Very lengthy
Good album alot of funk
It was okay. Felt a bit gimmicky.
I like it but an album of it get repetitive fast, won't be getting many relistens from me
I've had a lifetime to work out that I'm not really a fan of 70s funk, stiff-limbed, joyless Englishman that I am. However, this was quite fun! I'll never listen to it again, hence the three star rating, but it passed the time perfectly pleasantly. I nodded my head and tapped my toes at the requisite moments. Made sure nobody was watching first, mind you 🧐 Can't have anyone seeing me having a good time...

6.5/10 - Good funk with a few stand out songs. Not a huge fan of all the ad libbing as it detracted from the songs at points.
Super funky and it's a good vibe. It does get a bit repetitive at parts. 7/10
Not my personal style, but certainly very funky! I think that handcuffs was my favorite
My good god, this was very funky! Do I like this level of funk, I am not sure. I enjoyed it but also was sort of glad when it finished. Maybe it’s just too funky for me.
Funky! Definitely some good stuff, but for the most part they weren’t really songs that spoke to me.
Muito Groove e funky! Álbum bem divertido e dançante. QKZXHBB Khan.
funky
Of course I like Parliament. Bonafide and funkalicious. But George Clinton's groundbreaking band will always be Funkadelic. Parliament is more polished and commercial, which will never be an issue on my book. However, I love how animalistic and unhinged Funkadelic is.
Was that last song supposed to just be a bunch of fart noises? Give up the Funk was a fun surprise. But now I don't know where I even know that song from. Anyway, I dig the funky vibes for the most part.
Very funky. If I'm in the right mood that's great, otherwise it can be a bit much.
Very funkalicious, really like da first few tunes
Probably more used to the funkadelic maggot brain sound. Decent listen but not my favorite. Probably not great for the gym
3 1/2
Good album!
Funky but never fully drew me in.
Just some decent funky music, wasn’t blown away. Nothing to complain about tho
Very cool, different, but a bit repetitive
It was cool, pretty funky. But not my vibe.
Felt very similar to Tosh's Legalize It: A genre album, one I don't listen to much, which gives it novelty, but for me just doesn't have the je ne sais quoi.
I don't really like regular jazz music, but this funky version of jazz is pretty good. It's groovy and catchy and makes you want to dance. It was a musical journey through space.
Never heard of it. Wasn’t expecting a funk jazz disco type record but I enjoyed it. I rate it like 3.5/5 but I have to be somewhat harsh or I’ll end up with a million 4s. It’s a 7/10 but 3/5.
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑, maybe less if not for the Unfunky UFO Feels crazy to rate this low after getting funked so funktastically in my earhole, but having loved "Unfunky UFO" and "Give Up The Funk" for my whole life, I'm almost a little disappointed by the inferior funkometer readings on most of the other tracks. Most of these grooves were sparser, slower, almost as if the tempo was about 10 bpm behind, and I wonder if it's the sort of thing that hits better when you're stoned? Sober, it's not nearly so hypnotic. But I cannot be clear enough that under no circumstances will I be giving up the funk. No three star rating could wash my goats Parliament 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing
Some good stuff here, but a little underwhelming. Still enjoyable!
Idk i dont really have any strong feelings abt this one. 6.5/10
Getting Funky 🕺
Pretty fun, but I don't think I'd ever really come back to it 3.5
Never heard this album before and listened to it while on a spin bike and really enjoyed it. It was fun and weird sounded good in headphones
guter Funk
If you do a shot every time he says funk you will be legally blind/dead. Also, insanely farty song at the end.
Probably one of the most influential funk albums that I know of. 80s and early 90s hip hop owes a lot to this album.
Funk is not my thing, but I have to say this was a quite nice album
Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof off The Sucker) är bästa låten tycker jag
No problem getting the funk out on this one....that's for sure.
I felt like every song was the same and didn't even realise i had gone through different songs
Hot take: P-funk is not all that interesting
I liked but it was a bit too long for me. Fun stuff though, very groovy listen.
This was groovy and funky and all of that jazz funk 70s vibes. A really fun listen.
It's fun, it's funky, it's horns can really blow. But as groovy as this is it all seems a little shallow, no?
Highlights: Handcuffs, Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk). In a nutshell: we want the funk, dig? Yeah, I can dig it. Overall: 5/10
Fun catchy vibes, although not music that I love.
Rollo duro, puro 70 sudoroso.
*1975. *38 mins. *This is just a fun time. RATING - 7.5/10
buena reco
Liked it, not a lot of major standouts but I would put it on for a fun funky vibe.
3.0
Getting Mothership Connection as today's assignment was a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, I listened to One Nation Under a Groove just four days ago and really enjoyed that, so I was happy to get some more P-Funk! On the other hand, I didn't expect my 1001 Albums Generator journey with the collective to come to an end so soon. I suppose this was a good one to finish that journey on because I actually have a little bit of history with Mothership Connection! I had never heard a track from the album proper, but we used to play "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" in pep band pretty frequently. I had a hard time hitting some of the high notes on trumpet, but it was still a fun one to play. That said, the memory of performing something is always going to overshadow listening to its studio recording, so I can't say I wasn't a little bit underwhelmed when I finally got to track six. It's still a great tune, but nothing is ever going to beat blasting it out of a horn at a football game alongside dozens of other nerdy high schoolers. Songs like "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication," "Handcuffs" and the title track served as slightly stronger highlights for me, but Mothership Connection never quite reaches the heights of One Nation Under a Groove (in my opinion). The album is still a bit more my speed than Maggot Brain, but just doesn't match ONUAG's musicality, humor and overall memorability. While I enjoyed this album a little less than I hoped I would, I'm ultimately glad the shackles are off – there's a whole world of Parliament-Funkadelic music out there and I'm excited to dig deeper! Perhaps Standing on the Verge of Getting It On will be next on my non-Generator listening list? Highlights: Mothership Connection (Star Child), Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication (The Bumps Bump), Handcuffs, Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)
Reminds me of that Funkadelic album from more than a week ago. I expected lots of synths and space-y vibes; would have loved more modern "funk" and "groove" into it like Got To Give It Up, but maybe that's just what happens when you listen to Espresso too many times to count (3.5).
Okay
No me encantó
.cool. I thought the album got better as it went along. Fantastic Voyage was my favorite.
107. not bad
Good interesting album. 5.7/10
Funky music
Quite the arse-shaker as far as musicality goes. The lyrics were a bit on the narcissistic side.
Funky! I appreciated a lot of it, and I felt a lot of it was a little drawn out. 6/10
as heavy metal goes, pretty good I suppose
Fun, I'm really glad this one came along.
A solid funk album. Some really good moments and catchy bits. Nothing that made my eyes roll too much, though the extraterrestrial characters are a little goofy. 3/5
I started with "it's not in my wheelhouse" - I could end there. I did enjoy listening to it and found myself bopping along more than a few times. It's fun to listen to and interesting. It is certainly a classic in its own right. The music on this record has inspired a lot of funk and hip hop, so it's relevant and worth a listen. I respect it, but I'm not in a hurry to listen to it again.
Groovy
We need the funk! Very groovy, but wouldn’t be able to listen to consistently.
Interesting funk album that I did not know much about. Prob not on my rotation listen. Famous ‘We got the funk’ line from track Give up the funk.
Absolutely awesome funk album. Great things happening here
i wants ta get funked up (already pre-listened i am the culture king i am capital one fm i am euphoric)
Not bad. Pretty fun listen
I'm sure this was revolutionary at the time but it's not doing much for me today, it's funky no doubt
Il funk non é il mio
First of all, it was very groovy I was mesmerized in the rythm and the melody. But lyrics and aspects, I just didn't catch it. Maybe Funk is not the thing I would enjoy. But after finishing the album I was humming and doing beat box and nodding at the beat that I mimicked. So yeah I would say it was very catchy but not quiet my style. I love it still but I will listen to it maybe occasionally. So 3 out of 5.
Two classics - Pfunk - Doobie Funk
songs pretty good commentary annoying
The album's good and all. I just don't really connect to it. Maybe it's cause I don't like being around people and this is music for groups of people.
give up the funk (tear the roof off the sucker): super funky bass overall: groovy, funky (great bass lines)
Funky
Doesn’t move me but nice background music for coffee shop or park family gathering type. Feel good ambiance
This was so much fun - super groovy and uplifting. Some of the lyrics are...concerning. Problematic. But at least I wanna shake my ass.
I thought this was quite reserved for a Parliament record. It has grooves for sure, but I’d want it to go harder and weirder. Can’t dispute this is good though.
It's good but not nearly as groundbreaking as I remember Funkadelic's stuff being. Track 1 is the best thing here by a country mile, it never quite reaches the personality showcased all over that track
Listen, I get it - it's full of samples and beats that have formed the foundation of so many of hip-hop's classics. But much like I don't need to like the taste of a raw olive to love the taste of olive oil, I don't love this album. I respect it and all it's given us....but I don't love it.
Funky en su máxima expresión. "Give up the funk", es un temazo. Me quedo con el inicio de P-Funk.
leuk funk album (wel redelijk snel klaar mee)
A great folk piece The opener was quite intriguing Lowkey has a nice groove Would've been a nice album overall if I didn't associate this type of music with a slightly strange type of people... a little npc ones Has a lot of spacey and goofy sound effects Not as monotonous as I thought it will be, only one song got me to fast forward a bit Last song was ass!! Handcuffs was the best song I guess...
The rhythm is quite good. Very funky. Felt like I was at the UFO 70s disco. It seemed like it should represent this futuristic type of shi. Love it imo.
Funky. Bassy. Groovy. Yoinky Sploinky. But at times the song goes for too long and gets repetitive.
Good stuff but not as earth shattering at Maggot Brain
I liked it, but it's not my style. Loved the instrumental stuff🙏
P-funk (wants to get funked up) - wow sax! 7/10 Mothership Connection (star child) - Halfway thru the song, vocals are so smooth 8/10 Unfunky UFO - 6/10 Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication (the bumps bump) - 6/10 Handcuffs - Catchy! 7.5/10 Give up the funk (tear the roof off the sucker) - Chorus is chanty/rhythmic, i like it 7/10 Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples - gagagooga. A lot of instrumentals. 6/10 A total 70's album. Very funk, with techno-space theme in all the songs. A good album for me to listen to if I want a 70's vibe on a outing. Fun, and energetic, but a bit repetitive at times. A pick-me-up type of album. 3/5
Another excellent Funk album. Highlights: Give Up The Funk, Mothership Connection and P-Funk. 3.9
Funky but maybe too funky for me
It's alright. The one song everyone knows is good, it has a decent vibe even though it's a bit too weird in parts.
Funk
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? Completely unfamiliar How do I feel about this artist? I do not know this artist Favorite song(s)? Give Up the Funk (I recognized this one) Overall Thoughts: Funk continues to not be my thing but this was an okay listen. Everything kind of ran together and not much stood out.
Goofy, but fun.
This record has an enjoyable, consistently uplifting vibe, but none of the tracks stand out from the rest—at least on first listen.
Ooh, SPACE ROCK? No! The first line on Wiki says, "The album is held together by an outer-space theme", and yet this isn't considered space rock (or even space funk)! Ridiculous. There are plenty of bleeps and bloops, it should count. Maybe drums add negative space points. Parliament is like Wilco: I know they're beloved by the cool kids (the online cool kids, I should say), but I never really got into them. Luckily this album is way more fun than Wilco. Another 3.5. Highlights: the idea that three relevant "faults, defects or shortcomings" a person might have are "arthritis, rheumatism or migraines". Saying "David Bowie" like they do in the oft-referenced-by-me clip from that Mylo song ([buːi]). Linguistic intrigue: 'Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication' is not the most expected compound. I would have gone 'Supergroovalisticprosifunkication', unless the "sti-" is meaningful. But I guess it does flow a little better. Phonology beats syntax every time :(
1. P-funk(wants to get funked up)- 5/10 Good starter song for the album but it nothing too special to me. I like the background music and singing but I don’t love that most of the song the main guy is just talking. It’s also a bit long in my opinion since there’s no large climax in the song so it feels a bit repetitive. 2. Mothership connection(star child)-5.5/10 Once again background singing and noise caries the song. It is repetitive again but it doesn’t bother me as much, I don’t love the lack of singing from main vocalist though. 3. Unfunky UFO-6/10 All the lyrics are repetitive but it’s alright. I liked how it wasn’t as much talking and the main vocalist was singing more. All of these songs have similar lyrics which I don’t love. 4-supergroovalisticprosifunkstication(The Bumps Bump) -3/10 I really didn’t like the how there was a very deep guys voice randomly. The lyrics are just soooooo repetitive, I can tell these songs are music forward rather than lyrics but I need some diversity in the lyrics. The background music was a little bit more odd in this one but not in a good or bad way. In a way I like the music. 5- Handcuffs- 8/10 I liked the background music and I like the vocals. Lyrics are a bit more diverse rather than the same lyrics said in a different order 50 times. I would actually listen to this. This is my favorite to far 6. Give up the Funk(Tear the roof off the sucker) -7/10 This is their most popular song and it’s definitely one of the better songs on this album. I just don’t think the constant mention that this is funk music is necessary in the lyrics. I like the little “la la la la la” it sounds satisfying. Again the background vocals are really good on this they lowkey be carrying the album. I think I’ll this to my liked songs too 7. Night of the thumpasorus people- 6/10 I really like the title that just silly. There’s no vocals in this song which I don’t usually love in songs but in this case it’s alright. I kinda prefer in a sense because those lyrics were killing me a bit. There is background vocals but no actual lyrics, I could see this being good study music because of that. Overall rating average: 5.8/10 I feel like that rating fits well in my opinion, the background singing and music was overall pretty good but the lack of singing and repetitive lyrics kinda killed it for me. I definitely prefer songs that have strong vocals but this didn’t really have it, also almost every song had the word funk I just didn’t think it was necessary and it made it less diverse and unique to me. This is my first time really listening to funk music so I’m not sure if it’s just that I don’t like it or if it’s just this album, I’ll have to see I guess.
Twas fine
this was fine but forgettable
6/10
it’s giving full metal body suit, platform heels, U I I A 🛸 i have been seriously funked up
Narration mit background music?
Funky.
I think there's something compelling at the center of a lot of these songs, but a lot of them run way too long for their own good. Handcuffs is a pretty incredible song, but I think everything else feels very meandering and pointless and repetitive, but it wasn't that bad. Favorites: P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs
I can definitely recognize a bunch of places where this album was sampled by modern musicians, which is super cool. The whole thing is super cool.
Classic bass lines and original sounding tunes for that era. It’s the best George Clinton album I’ve heard. 3.8/5.0
I laid my broken ankle upon the speakers as this record played and all I got in return was a sore foot. I liked how he pronounced David Bowie. False advertising/5
Overall decent groves but no real standout moments/tracks besides we want the funk*. Good enough background music but feels repetitive when actively listening. *Either the funk finally took hold of me but the closer is also underrated
Never heard of album or band. 20 seconds in and I can tell it’s my type of music. P funk is so funky. What a collection of sounds. Pretty Catchy too. Mothership is good not great. Very groovy. Really good production. Lyrics are fine. Clocked the regulators sample right away. Good chorus. Un funky ufo is absolutely funky. More of the same. Great horns. Greta production. It feels like all of the songs work together which I like. Supergroovalistic has just a little too much going on for me. Definitely ahead of its time. I like handcuffs better. This one is pretty catchy. Production is good as always. Kind of feels different from the rest in a good way. Give up the funk is an all timer. The production, the lyrics, the harmonies it’s perfect. This song will never die. Wish it ended with this one. Thumpasorous is just ok. Overall I like the album. Very different than most of what I’ve heard so far. ALS still being played today. 3.4 stars.
I thought that the songs were pretty catchy and in the moment I enjoyed them, but it was pretty much in one ear and out the other. I couldn't really tell you what any of the songs actually sounded like after maybe a minute after listening to them.
Fun and groovy
I lost count of how many times the word Funk was sang through the album that it became a standing laughable joke. An interesting funk experimental concept album.
Give up the funk war spaßig, alles andere ging mehr an mir vorbei 5/10
Thought this was better than expected and remembered. Second half of LP really took off for me. If I could give it a more granular score would be like a 3.3 so rounding down to 3.
Decent.
Very interesting album. I think this might be the first true funk album I've ever heard. It was a fun listen, but just didn't quite click for me. Somewhere in the "I'd listen to it if it was on but wouldn't put it on myself" category. Might try to listen to more of this artist though.
Slow start but improved as it went on
Good funk, good horns. Give Up The Funk is still good. Good, solid, concise album
I'm not that into this type of funk, but its pretty good ngl
If you like funk music then I feel like this album is for you. I enjoyed the songs well enough, but I don't think they're quite my style
This was a decent listen. It’s a nice representation of the quality of funk in this period, with a very listenable sound and a fun concept. Some songs definitely do drag on and become a bit repetitive though (there are 6 songs in 38 minutes, to give an idea). Worth a listen, but probably not a spaceship I’ll seek another journey on.
Extraplanetary funk.
Funky. I'd describe this as an album that I'd put on during a party if I wanted something that was chill but upbeat; something that's background but if you focus in on it you'd find it interesting. It's soundtrack music for a movie with a funk scene. It's grooving music with sounds and lyrics that have a rhythm that makes you bob your head but it's not really saying anything. I think it's a Classic example of funk, a true staple. Not that i've listened to a lot of funk. This is the funk that funks when I think of funky funk.
#29/1001 🇺🇸 Another album that i have never heard before save for the absolute classic Give Up The Funk. The influence of this record and the key members Clinton, Worrall and Collins is immesurable. I'm sure that all of them will appear again on this list as producers, musicians or guests with other artists. It's an album very much of its time, fried on acid, heavy funk and highly camp, but has been heavily immitated and sampled by other artists. Best tracks: Give Up The Funk, Mothersil Connection.
Only knew Give Up The Funk before listening. Can't say I'm the funkiest in the bunch, but I can appreciate a sound I dont hear often. 3.5/5 - cuz as much as I'd like to, I dont give a funk
So much funk! What a fun album. Another new band for me, and what a treat to listen to. They sound like they're having a lot of fun playing, too. Would rate 3.5 if I could.
George Clinton is a genius. Out of this world.
Fun and funky! This is the length all albums should be.
So incredibly funky, and started off really enjoying this album, but it really is 38 minutes of the same. The kind of music I really like in short bursts, but is just too much as an entire album.
"We will return it to you as soon as you are grooving" — okay fine, I'm grooving
Groovy
Funk central. Fully immersive party simulation. Some tracks suffer from outdated synth sounds, and having been played to death over the past decades. Still iconic and groundbreaking piece of afrofuturist sound. Kind of weird listening to it walking around the USA in January 2026. 3.5/5 from me.
3 pushing 4 really good and funky liked it a lot but I just don’t think I’ll listen again
There is something with the first two songs that are just like a bit too monotonous. Like, its objectively funky as hell, but a very specific type of ‘talk over some riffs’ vs me being like, wow that song is really memorable, I felt something specific. but damn, Give Up The Funk is next level
Funky It’s okay just isn’t something I personally enjoy too much 4-6/10 leaning towards the lower end It’s still pretty okay Songs feel like they drag out for way too long Probably notable in music history but lowkey idk this is probably some acquired taste ahh
Honestly, I really love funk and soul, but for some reason, this concept album didn't click as much as I hoped. While it is still pretty good with great funk elements, the vocals aren't my cup of tea. The highest three-star rating I'm ever going to give on this site.
Yeah. I know this album quite well. Listened to it a bunch a few years back trying to get into it, because I like funk. Honestly, it's an album I want to like more than I do. It just doesn't really do it for me. For a funk album, it's just not... punchy enough for me. It kinda sounds like the easy listening version of funk, for me. I respect it, it's just never really been my style of funk.
Okay
It is a very funny funky album to mess around with, honestly i think that it is one of the best albums of the band, even tho i've never heard therest of their albums, it sometimes gets repetitive but it is enjoyable
This would be awesome if I was at a disco. Solid dancing music, not something i'd see out otherwise though. Their discography has some amazing album titles
there was a lot of looping, it became almost meditative. I wish they had done more singing than speaking.
Fun, energetic. This would be great to queue up with guests over, as background music or blasted all over the neighbourhood.
If groovylicuous had an album, this would be it! Groovy!
Pretty good funk
Never have I heard the word funk so many times in a row
It has the funky soul to it, and I love that. It has the blackness that is needed in a funky soul album like this. But like albums from the past, it is missing a lot to make it over 3 stars in my music taste now, but this is a good album nonetheless.
It had never occurred to me that it was possible for an album to be too funky... This pushes it to point of sounding like parody
Classic funk
Funkadelic
Izuzetno funky.
3/5 super funky! Not my thing per se, but interesting indeed
Bunch o songs about how funky they are. And no denying how funky they are, but there's nothing that jumps out as particularly special or interesting.
So I was disappointed with this one. Initially, since I received this album on a Monday morning, I thought, "Yessss! Some Parliament will kick me in the ass and get me moving with some funk!" I cued up my wireless speaker and started track one, "P-Funk (Wants to Get Finked Up)" as I hopped in the shower. Well...hf the track is just talking, and the rest is extremely repetitive and not the funky jam I was expecting. One fun lyric does stand out from track one: "Doin' it to ya' in the earhole." Also, wear your sunglasses! On to track two, "Mothership Connection" which started strong, and seems more funky & groovy. I also learned that Warren G took a nod from this song when, in "Regulator" he sings "...will you let me ride?" The sunglasses reference is back! Track three, "Unfunky UFO," tells you that "You've got all that is needed to save this world from a funkless hell." Well. I'm probably not up to that task, but thanks for the confidence. Great groove in this one! Track five, "Handcuffs," is completely misogynistic - "Do I have to put the handcuffs on you mama? Do I have to keep you under lock and key?" or "Do I have to keep you barefoot and pregnant to keep you in my world?" or "I don't care 'bout looking like a chauvinistic kinda whatever..." Uh... it's not funny, it's not cute, it's inappropriate plain and simple. Finally, we arrived at track six. "Give Up the Funk" was the classic Parliament sound. I was needing on a Monday morning to get the energy flowing. I was dancing around my bathroom and singing and honestly, this is the highlight of the album for me.
I liked this, felt like I’d enjoy this in the underground clubs if i lived in the 70s lol
Vibe boa, mas músicas repetitivas. Cala a boca, a música do Joselito é deles UHEHUAHUEAUHAEHUAE.
A bit slow but had catchie chorus’s, and cool funky beats. Overall pretty fun album and wouldn’t be mad at all if it was playing on the radio. 6.5/10
I liked Mothership Connection and Give Up The Funk the most.
It was alright
Not my thing but enjoyable nonetheless.
WE GOT THE FUNK WHO WANTS TO GET FUNKED UP
Funky genre I don't normally listen to but really enjoy. Hard to be in a bad mood with this playing in the background.
Simultaneously too funky, and not funky enough
Alright
funkayyy!!
I've never heard of this group before and I don't normally listen to funk so it was something a bit different for me. It's a fun album but not one I'll probably listen to again.
I can imagine loving this album in the right setting — in a club, watching someone like John Travolta dance without hesitation, completely inside the groove. In that moment, this music would probably feel joyful and irresistible. Listening to it alone, though, I find myself more of an observer than a participant. I understand why Mothership Connection is so highly praised, even if I don’t fully connect with it on a personal level.
posé, calme et à la fois original
not bad - not always the vibe, but I could see myself listening to this again. "P-Funk" was very odd
Extremely funky, though for me the album doesn't really go anywhere. The instrumentation is generally good, but I was left wanting something a bit more groundbreaking. Maybe I'm asking too much for an album of this age. Best Tracks: - Give Up The Funk Worst Tracks: - Unfunky UFO Rating: 6.5/10
cool cool cool honestly it’s kind of a drone until Give Up the Funk but it still funks
Favourites: 1. Handcuffs 2. Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication 3. Unfunky UFO Least Favourite: P-Funk
got me movin muszę sluchac wiecej takiej muzyki!!
32/1089 3.4443* Never heard more than 1-2 songs from these guys but the musicianship is first class. It definitely feels like a 70s album and the sound is so tight because of the musicianship. Also nice to hear where dre got a sample or two from! Hits....GUTF and mothership
This first track is such a long build to nothing but a good intro I guess. Great musicianship on track two and cool to hear the interpolation from Dre. It started to hit its stride at track three but I’m still pretty indifferent. I know from playing stuff like this in high school and college that it’s infinitely more fun to play than to listen to a recording of, and hopefully the live setting of this would be the missing link for me. Give up the funk is obviously a hit but feels like a 2.5 minute song stretched to 6.
Really fun Bit repetitive Few stand out tracks
Very funky sound, and an entertaining listen.
Not a big junk guy but it was ok
It's so funky! And very much a concept album. I was surprised that there's really only one song on there that's not a concept song, give up the funk.
