Wasn’t into it.
Interesting sound. Topical to the times. Folksy and classic sounds. Fun listen. Not gonna add it to my collection but I see the draw.

Another Byrds adjacent offering, do try and mix it up RGP. I mean I like GC, I like The Byrds but this is towards the top of the one stars at best, although “From A Silver Phial” almost put it into the two stars. Tom.

Not my thing at all. Found it incredibly boring.
Making me want to slit my wrists - mopey, drone-y, just nothing happening here. A very long 43 min listen. I just don't get what anyone else is digging on this.

Another pretty boring folk/country record, this time from the mid-70's, rather than from the late -60's/early-70's. I guess we can never escape The Byrds.

Never heard of him, never seen this album in the racks, didn't know a single song going in, this is a blue bird for sure! Jumped right in and gave it a listen... I hated it from the start, the opener is just nothing I'd ever listen to willingly. He sounds like a guy who sings at a coffee house on Friday nights. His range is limited, the songs are boring and one dimensional. "No Other", the title track, has potential but again, it stagnates and becomes a bit boring. "Strength Of Strings" & "From A Silver Phial" both have some nice guitar work but then he sings. The whole thing feels like it borders on gospel. I found myself skipping through most of the tracks after 2-3 minutes, just couldn't keep my attention. It just sounds very dated, maybe it was cutting edge in 1974. I have no idea how this made the list, it must have been a mistake or Gene is the one who put this list together. One star!

Imagine you're at the most boring party in the 1970s. You've got a plastic cup if warm German white wine and this album is playing on the stereo. It's nicely recorded though, and the harmonies are good, but the lyrics are embarrassing.
The '74 reviews were right.
This is country music masquerading as rock and it can go fuck itself.
Music of its time… that didn’t travel well. Listened to sections of several tracks, each very similar, none very interesting.

The album was not great. There were a couple of songs that were 8 minutes long. These did not need to be this long. I do not want to listen to this album again. It was not straight country but there are hints of it. It is not the worst album on the list. It ia probably better than a 1 but not really a 2. I will round down.

2…3…1?…3?…1?…2?…1…3… I do have the energy to be petty here. Gene Clark was boring and inoffensive, no real reason to bash him. But he's no Jeff Buckley. Clark's average in our group shall be docked in revenge for Buckley's average score. This is the way.

A bit slow and sort of a country western feel. Not really my vibe.
I like the last Gene C album we were sent (White Heat). It had a nice mix of country and folk and he sang with passion. This album, however, misses the mark. The folk has all but disappeared and the country sounds like it's influenced by the Eagles' first album. We now have permanently etched in our minds His Dudeness' classic line; "I hate the Fuckin Eagles"
Had to switch it off just over half way through. Very samey and maudlin.

The first and third track are pretty good. It's got really crisp and clean production, got a nice blend of folk, rock and very early indie rock. If this released in the 80s without such a high budget this probably wouldve sold extremely well.
