Mythique

Five years, WAAAAAAA! Good song. Soul love. Bowie had such a great voice. No misses so far by moonage daydream. Starman is a certified bop. It ain't easy has a nice twang to it. Lady stardust. He was allllllllright. Star is alright. The worst one so far but still really good honestly. Hang on to yourself is such a bop. Ziggy Stardust is a masterpiece song. Literally named my dog after it. Suffragette city about. bop. Nice mellow song with rock 'n' roll suicide to close us out. A really well paced album without misses. They aren't all hits, but they are all at least good, perhaps even great. I'm feeling a solid 9.

9.5/10. Stunning experience. The pinnacle of Bowie songwriting, endless emotion in each verse, and one of the best closing tracks of all time in my opinion. A must listen.

Exceptional and an important progression forward in Rock music. Ziggurat transcends time and space while finding the pocket of universal balance. Bravo.

what is there to say about this album that hasn't already been said? it's basically the pinnacle of the 70s glam rock genre and bowie's best. the album flows well, has some genuinely great lyrics, and great sound. basically everything still holds up to this day and likely will for years to come. an absolute classic. also, I'm a huge fan of ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and Lady Stardust's opening sounds uncannily similar to The Summer of '91. I'm definitely onto something here. favorites: five years, moonage daydream, starman, lady stardust, ziggy stardust, suffragette city

It's a banger

Ziggy Stardust is Bowie at his best, there’s not a miss on this album. Moonage Daydream and the wailing guitar, what a track. This is a classic and an easy 5 stars

It’s always an exciting moment to be generated a David Bowie album to listen to. There have been several so far and each one has been quite excellent. There are some big tracks here on this album, so I’m looking forward to hearing it all together. Songs I already knew: Moonage Daydream, Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City Favourites: Starman, Ziggy Stardust It was difficult to narrow down my favourite songs from this album. In all honesty, everything here is excellent. This is from Bowie’s glam rock era, and it’s hard to say which era is my favourite. Everything he tried, he seemed to do so very well. I think this might be my favourite album by him that I’ve listened to, but that’s not really may change as I listen to more. Definitely give this a listen.

One of the best

David Bowie is David Bowie

Amazing album by one of the best musicians ever. Bowie and his music will always mean a lot to me.

Bowie in top form, a fantastic and indispensable album.

Bowie had several iconic singles before this, but Ziggy Stardust is his first truly iconic album as a whole.

It's a classic.

David Bowie has always been one of my favourite artists

Thoroughly enjoyable. Well composed and sonically impactful.

A great album, doesn’t hold its concept the whole way through, but it never slacks off. Pretty much the acme of glam.

This is the best Bowie album by far. It's energizing to listen to. Each song gets better and better with each listen.

Pretty amazing album, I never really got into David Bowie and now i just feel stupid. Will listen again Favorites: Five Years, Moonage Dream, Starman, Lady Stardust

What a journey 9/10

Five Years // Soul Love // Moonage Daydream // Starman // Lady Stardust // Ziggy Stardust //

I could listen to this album (at least) once a week for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. In fact, I'll probably do just that. Yet another masterpiece of a journey from David Bowie. The overarching story, the emotion captured from track to track, the individual songwriting, the instrumental arrangements...all perfect. Again. He is the best to ever do it. Favorite track: literally every one, but Moonage Daydream if you're forcing me to pick

Perfection. Six stars.

First Bowie album I really liked, this is killer.

Truly an all-timer. Some remarkable songs on here, like Moonage Daydream, Rock and Roll Suicide, Five Years, and that's without ZS and Suffragette City. But I think my favorite is Soul Love. Not sure there is a song on this that I don't like.

One of my top ten albums of all time. Great songs with a thematic thread. An all time glam rock classic.

AGAIN ONE OF MY FAVES, Bowie inspires me so much and I lovee his art! Also think this is one of his best. 10/5

Favourite tracks: five years; moonage daydream; Starman; hang on to yourself; Ziggy stardust; suffragette city; it ain't easy

4.8 david bowie my love. a classic what more can i say. fave songs: five years, moonage daydream, starman, lady stardust, rock 'n' roll suicide

One of my favorites! I find something new to enjoy every time.

cmon it's awesome

Hell yeah this album slaps

Bowie has a lot of album on this list, some more questionable than others. This one however undoubtedly belong on the list. Great album with a couple classic tracks. I still am not the biggest Bowie fan, but this album deserves a 5.

This album is a masterpiece.

-Didn’t write a BL, unsure when generated, retroactively reviewed 26/08/23- AL: what a great album. Bowie truly was one of a kind. This album just rips from start to finish. Amazing production, vocals. I don’t think I have any complaints with this album. Star man can feel a bit overplayed but it still is an amazing track so there’s no disdain from me. FT: “Five Years”, “Lady Stardust”, Suffragette City” 5/5

sublime

I've listened to this many times before. My mum's a huge Bowie fan!

yeah this is a good one. it just all really flows together to tell a narrative. i really enjoyed the quality of the songwriting (catchy hooks) and the style. listening to it really shows why it is a pillar of classic rock. this was the only bowie album i have ever listened to in full, so i am excited to explore more of his back catalog! favorite song(s): five years moonage daydream star hang on to yourself suffragette city rock n roll suicide

Exceptional

Pretty much every track is a banger. Is it my favorite Bowie album? Nope, but it is deservedly the entry point for Bowie fandom.

David Bowie guarantees a great time, listening to his stuff is always an experience and this album is no exception it's a really strong collection of songs. From the opening Song, Five Years you can tell this is going to be something special, I'm quite partial to Moonage Daydream myself. But this album also has Starman, it has starman bro that's like 2 stars just by itself one of his best for sure. Even songs that aren't MY favourite like Hang on to Yourself, still elicit so much energy and just sound right. The titular Ziggy Stardust is an absolute classic though, I love the guitar in this one it resonates with me everytime I hear it. Do yourself a favour and listen to it.

Brilliant album! I’m so glad I understand it now. One of my favourite albums here. Well, 5, long time no see!

An album that demanded my attention but left me anxious not doing anything with my hands

An amazing album. As I've said before about Bowie's music, it's art as much as it is pop, and that's the reason why it continues to be relevant.

Es literalmente el mejor album de todos los tiempos, ¿por qué no ponerle un 5?

Listened Before? N Wow, another wonderful work by Bowie. This is probably his most famous album and I had never listened to it beginning-to-end so this was a great intro to the way the songs all fit together. Absolutely classic. Top of the game and top of the genre. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Starman, Ziggy Stardust

Brilliant !!!

Still fab

As good as Bowie got Which is about as good as any earthling ever got

this was a brilliant album to start with! I've been a fan of 70s music my entire life, but have never spent too much time listening to this album. My favourite song was personally 'Lady Stardust', and I found that the story and theatrical plot of the album were so enticing to get me to listen to more of it.

Can only be a five !

Probably more of a 4.5, but I enjoyed every song (and so did Albie)

I’ve loved this one for a long time

Another album that I certainly know of, but have never given it a listen (at least in my recollection). I was fascinated by it...perhaps obsessed...today. I stopped counting after 5 repeats, but there were definitely more. I loved it!

Why has it taken me so long to listen to this beautiful piece of work? For a record about an alien, this is notably lacking in typical space noises like lasers and flying saucers. That's nice. I got some strong Hedwig and the Angry Inch feelings in places. Also nice. Glad I finally took the time.

Is this the sixth Bowie album on this project?! I might have questioned such a thing but Bowie’s career is so interesting and varied… and the music on this album so great… I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to hear this. A contender in the “my favorite Bowie album” category!

Absolute no-brainer, as close to perfect as an album can be.

What more can be said about this album? Or this man, for that matter? True genius.

A timeless and truly incredible record from start to finish

All time all timer. For sure. Masterpiece.

10/10 classic

Masterpiece

I haven’t listened to Ziggy Stardust in about 4 years, and it was lovely to revisit. It’s the most popular Bowie album for a reason. Great stories, awesome songs. 9/10, I need to listen to this more often

One of the best albums of all time.

Have already listened to this many times. It is a timeless classic, perhaps the greatest album I have ever listened to.

Fantastic concept record, when they're done right they really hit, when they aren't...well..

ehkä yliarvostetoin albumi ikinä... joo ekat 5 biisiä legendaarisia ja seuraavat 6 klassikoita mutta ALARM ALARuM ALARM ALARM K.WEST KANYE WEST XDDDDDDDDDDDDD HAUSKIN KETKUTUS ÍKINÄ!!!!!!!!!!!! liian pitkä albumin nimi (muistuttaa pink band,....concepts......) look up bing microsoft translator...said its OVERRATED. AS HECK. five years

If you had to pick the best Bowie album, Ziggy Stardust is probably the strongest contender. It's a perfect record from start to finish. While it's definitely not Bowie's only perfect album, or even the first one, it's the most accessible, driven by a great concept, strong lyrics, and represents the first (maybe best) of Bowie's many characters. This is an easy 5 out of 5.

Started with the 2012 master on Apple Music... was overly loud and crispy. Found a vinyl rip, which is a lot more pleasant if not still a little dry. Great Record! It Ain't Easy is surprising, never noticed it much but that chorus kicks! Cool song, but different vibe. "Ziggy Stardust" is really a solid jam! Wish it were a little earlier TBH. I'll have to go with a 4, maybe a 5. I'll sleep on it.

The album opens up with a track about "five years", jumping right into the middle of a narrative story that climbs and climbs to an explosive crecendo. I doubt it is a coincidence that this is the opening song and this is Bowie's 5th album, each of which was released 1 year apart. The overall sound of the album is "big". The tracks are layered, and spatial thanks to various chorus effects and their use of the left/right/center channels. 'Star' and 'Suffragette City' are good example of what I mean. It will take a few more albums to be sure, but I think this might mark the point where Bowie fully realizes his initial musical vision and where he is really comfortable in his form.

Sólo por Starman un 5

By far his best album.

Absolute classic

One of my all-time favorites

obv one of my favorite albums

What's to be said about this record. Its a classic. Not quite my favorite Bowie record but it's definitely one of his best. Tracks like 'Starman', 'Five Years' and 'Moonage Daydream' are utterly undeniable. And despite this not being my favorite Bowie record, I can eaaaasily see why it's often touted as his best. Its universally likeable and I think it marked the point when Bowie became absolutely iconic. Definitely a 10/10 record.

69 of 1001 David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spider from Mars Favorite Track : Suffragette City Rating : 5/5 What is there to say? Awesome album. When it ends, I just want to start it again.

Glam Rock staple. Bowie delivers and stellar piece of work here.

I’m an alligator, I’m a momma-poppa coming for you. I’m the space invader,I’ll be a rock n rollin’ bitch for you.

I think it’s important to know Bowie did tons of characters like Ziggy throughout his career cuz that’s what separates this from some of those cheesy old rockstars who took the godlike archetype of rockstars way too seriously. To Bowie this was just another mask he wore as an artist. It also makes the album way more fun and cinematic and has become a humorous take rockstars and celebrities by comparing them to alien creatures. Even when you ignore the narrative the album still has a ton of great jams and lyrics like on Soul love. If you look at it through Bowie’s perspective rather than Ziggy’s it seems like a shot at the hippy love songs of that time that make love seem like the answer to everything but never describe what it even is or looks like. Bowie is obsessed with this divine like idea but can never actually feel it. The imagery of the first verse also makes you immediately realize this won’t be another cheesy love song. The imagery throughout this album is what sets the lyrics apart for me. During a time where singer songwriter music was at its peak and songs were all very realistic, Bowie says fuck that I’m describe a totally different version of the world. The music is also all really well written and performed and the song hang on to yourself even sounds like a punk riff 5 years before punk was even invented. This seems like the type of album I would hate and if anyone besides Bowie tried this it would be so corny but he made a style that is completely unique to himself and I respect that. 👍: moonage daydream, soul love, rock n roll suicide

When I hear the words concept album my expectations immediately drop. They’re just not for me and they almost always fall flat or just come across as generally corny. And to be fair, the whole ziggy concept didn’t really move me much. Regardless, there’s no denying how great the music is. Such a great mix of of everything you’d want in a rock album. The fact that it was made in ‘72 is makes it all the more impressive. A lot of these songs sound like they could have been made a decade later. Some great highlights and really an enjoyable listen the full way through. Best: moonage daydream, suffragette city, star man, ziggy, hang on to yourself MMM: THERES A STARMAAAAN, WAITING IN THE SKY HED LIKE TO COME AND MEET US BUT HE THINKS HED BLOW OUR MINDS

Epic Bowieness.

one of my favorites albums ever, great lyrics, great instruments, monumental shit all around

Well Christ what do I write here that hasn't already been written. One of the best albums ever, easily.

It is a classic and rightfully so. You have everything you need in a concept album here, whether that concept is looser or tighter. The great thing is that you can still listen to each song on their own.

Fantastic album. Doesn't sound dated at all. At least 4 killer tracks but whole album is a great listen from start to finish.

Awesome opera, some real jammers, few meh tracks. Overall amazing album.

every song a single

This has been one of my favourite albums since I first heard it. Easiest 5 star award. Not one song is less than 5 star. Probably the ultimate all killer, no filler.

Actively listened to this one, great concept album with quite unique/otherworldly themes. I like the inclusion of the more "traditional" rock and roll sounding tracks like suffragatte city and rock n roll suicide. Mellower tracks like soul love are add good variety. Starman and Moondage daydream are absolute bangers.

One of my favourites

Iconic rock and roll Album.

Man, hard to say anything about Bowie that hasn't been said before, but this is such a great record. I haven't listened to it in it's entirety before I don't think, but I played this multiple times today and loved every second.

Pretty great. I'm not sure what to say about it, but I like it a lot. It's not 5/5, but it's really close. I think Five Years is a pretty slow start, feels sorta like it should be the last song. A few of the songs aren't quite as catchy as the all-out bangers like Moonage Daydream or Suffragette City. 4.5/5

His best album. A must listen

It really broke reality

Masterpiece from a genius. About as good as music gets.

Best: Five Years / Moonage Daydream Worst: It Ain't Easy

truly one of the most innovative pieces of art i have ever experienced and left me speechless. best song: rock 'n' roll suicide worst song: soul love overrated song: none underrated song: hang on to yourself

Djöfull er þetta ógeðslega góð plata. Besta plata ársins 1972. Eina sem stingur í stúf er It ain't easy, sem á ekki alveg heima þarna. Annars einn risatór banger út í gegn. (Verst að það vanti bónus lögin sem voru á Ryko Disc útgáfunni)

🔥🔥🔥🔥

Alright, so David Bowie basically invents a character named Ziggy Stardust, dresses up like an alien rock star, and releases an album about his adventures with his band, the Spiders from Mars. And it's so damn good that even aliens would groove to it. I mean, if there's a cooler way to make music, I haven't heard of it yet. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is a five-star masterpiece that's out of this world, literally. Bowie may have left us, but Ziggy lives on forever.

Sterk album met Starman als echte klassieker. Heeft ook een heel toffe Kanye West theorie

I had a really hard time rating this. I've heard it some times, and it's definitely not my favorite album, and David Bowie is not my favourite artist, but I find all all songs unique and varying with an overall very high quality, with some of the songs being timeless classics. I also know how high people regard this, so it feels hard giving it lower than 5, even though I don't get the feeling that I just need to listen to the album again after hearing it, which I definitely feel with some other albums I'd rate 5 in a heartbeat. So probably weak 5 for me.

Starman, Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardus, Suffargette City, Rock'N'Roll Suicide.... It's insane how many classics is on this one album that runs below 40 min in length. Really enjoyed it and nice to listen to "the story" in order. A true classic.

I originally refrained from rating this because I wasn't sure if I was ready to give my second 5 star, or if this even qualified as a 5 star album. I don't know how many I've listened to this album, but it never ceases to impress me each time. "Five Years" is the best song, because what a way to begin an album. And then "Moonage Daydream", "Starman", "It Ain't Easy", and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide". It just keeps going.

We’ve got five stars, stuck on my eyes Five stars, what a surprise

I miss Adam ;(

It's brilliant. And we all know it.

Loool denne hørte jeg på i hele går, helt tilfeldig! Elsker den, så klart.

Bowie's defining album. An all around brilliant set of 11 songs, sequined and produced to perfection, and incredibly ahead of it's time, dispatching tried and true rock clichés in favour of a much more memorable, yet profoundly real persona of Ziggy Stardust, birthing the pop star era of rock and pop. Absolutely brilliant set of songs that couldn't deserve anything but a five. An essential record.

Some absolute bangers. A few weaker songs, but when it's good, it's REALLY good.

This is the best album of my favorite artist. David Bowie has made great albums in various styles, but in the end this is the superior one. Everything in the album is the right choice. It is a concept album about an alien on earth corresponding exactly in the correct time for it (just after the moon landing), fitting the glam rock outfits and shows. It starts with a song (Five Years) gathering the audience together filled with a prophecy of future doom. And finishes with a hopeful song that is one of the ultimate closers of all time at live performances (Rock n Roll Suicide): "Give me your hands, cause you're wonderful". The lyrics are so smart. For example Lady Stardust cycles between male and female gender, making it offense at the time and causing a lot of publicity. The tempo changes from rock with great guitar licks to beautiful ballads. Even the cover is a rather mediocre song highly elevated by the arrangement and performance on the record. What is not to love?

Ah finally an album that I really enjoyed. Having loved the Bowie singles for years it was great to listen some album tracks and I will go back to this again, fab 🥰

The breakout for the most famous character of potentially the most interesting artist ever? Yes, I think this will get 5 stars. Shocker. This is art right here. Favorite Bowie track ever is Suffragette City, but the whole album is a classic. Not a single skip here

Amazing

I have loved this album since it came out. One of the all time!

OH MY GOD SUCH A GOOD ALBUM.EVERY SONG IS GREAT.I LOVE IT.

One of the best. It's peak Bowie from beginning to end.

sensacional

I didn't really grow up with Bowie as many people did and so I have been slow over my life to appreciate his genius. This has been quite nice because it's trickled into my life now for decades. This album is certainly top notch and deserves all the accolades. Starman is the one I like the most from this album.

This album makes me feel like William Miller, the Cameron Crowe character in Almost Famous, the kid that's out of his element, exposed to a world that's captured his interest but keenly aware he has no place in. This the hole into that black box of 70's emerging glam rock. A world that I'll never fully understand or know. But I like it. I've heard Bowie referred to as the most overrated artist on this list... Now, I'm no professional rater, but there are plenty others more overrated than Bowie on this list (Nick Cave, The Who, Leonard Cohen, etc.). But I get the point. Out of six albums, this is the first that has not let me down. I love the guitar, punky lo-fi influences associated costumes, personas and strange otherworldly themes. If I was only a kid traveling with Bowie trying to get an interview for Rolling Stone magazine in the 70's...

Never listened to all the songs on this album before, just the popular ones. Really enjoyed finding a few new songs that I’ve added to some playlists, those songs being suffragette city and rock n roll suicide. Not one bad song on here so no reason not to give it 5

Love it

Yes, please.

This is one of the best albums of the 70s. Love it! 5/5.

When my partner was pregnant we played 'Starman- to her belly to get the baby to kick and, indeed, boogie, and considered calling our kid Bowie they loved it that much. And that's about the fifth best song on this album. The closing three - Ziggy, Suffragette City and Lady Stardust - make up the greatest ending of all time. I'm genuinely trying to think of a better one, and I don't think it exists. Imagine having an album so stacked, you put those three at the end of side 2. 7 years gone, and still reminding us that he's irreplaceable

Legendary

Untouchable, weird and wonderful

I have never heard this album all the way through and I have been missing out. I've never totally gotten into Bowie but this feels like a gateway for me to listen to each of his albums. Not a bad song on the album.

One of the best albums of all time, have believed this to be true since I was 12.

Just incredible! I can't believe I've lived 33 years and never fully listened to this record. A classic for a reason, it really nails the right pacing for a concept album. There's a great amount of diversity in rock music styles that keeps it flowing at an excellent pace. Also extra points for "Ziggy Stardust" my favorite Bowie song.

one of the greatest albums of all time! forever in live with david bowie and lady stardust is one of my favorite songs for sure!

Just perfect

Great album! I like concept albums, this one is great music with incredible, iconic songs sprinkled throughout. Staaaarrmaaaaaaaan!

A classic, so good! Favourite tracks: Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Starman, Star, Ziggy Stardust

Based on what I knew about Ziggy Stardust, I thought this was going to be a weeeird album, but it was just good ol' rock and roll. I really enjoyed all the songs, and the mix of instruments gave each song its own vibe and made the album feel nice and cohesive.

Wow, the last three days have been “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “Kind of Blue,” and now this. I’m running out of stars to give out.

Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am! This album is IN-CRE-DIB-LE! There's is something to be said for the hit songs of this record, but listening through it all, man, it's just something else! The influence this record had on countless of other artists and bands just amazes me. Bowie is a fantastic storyteller, and the songs are written perfectly! His band is amazing too and they gel really well together! Honestly, I find it hard to find something bad with this album, it's all just so good! Key tracks: All, but I could do with Star, although it's part of the story. 9 out of 10

Bowie's best album

Killin it with this one.

Classic

p280. 1972. 5 stars. Perfect.

Likte da ikkje så megagodt i gamledaga, men da komme seg med årene ass

definitely not David Bowie’s best album but that just goes to show how talented Bowie is since this album is definitely a 10/10 for me

Probably my favourite Bowie album I think. Moonage Day Daydream, Soul Love, Ziggy Stardust, Rock N’ Roll Suicide my favourites. Always way ahead of the game

This album is my favourite by Bowie and the fact that the worst of Bowie is better than most, shows how good it is. It’s as close to perfect as possible. I kick myself at how late I truly got onto Bowie but I am making up for it weekly

I already know this album is 5/5. I love it. David Bowie is one of my favorite artists and he's at the top of one of his many songwriting peaks on this album. I was lucky enough to see him live on his A Reality tour and it remains one of the best shows I've seen. All around an amazing album and artist way ahead of his time. Standout Tracks: Five Years, Soul Love, Moonage Daydream, Starman, It Ain't Easy, Hang On to Yourself, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City, Rock 'N' Roll Suicide

So good. Start to finish there isnt a bad song on here.

Joskus 2000-luvun alussa jossain Hakaniemen huudeilla sijaitsi keikkapaikka nimeltä Factory. Nauroin koko biisin ajan, alusta loppuun. Parasta ikinä.

I would say this album makes me appreaciate David Bowie a little more. It is groovie and upbeat, with some psychedelic aspects to it.

Classic Album, One of Bowies Greatest. It is the first to truly set apart his sound and his ideas of a space odyssey. Favorite songs Moonage Daydream, Starman, Ziggy Stardust

Absolutely xlassix

Easiest 5 I've given. I got the anniversary cd for Christmas many years ago. Was my first introduction to David Bowie

Truly incredible. I’ll take any opportunity I can to sit down and listen to this art from front to back. To think that this came out in ‘72 is wild. Bowie was always 10 years ahead. Hard to find much to complain about here, other than various recording quirks that come from a record in the 70s. My favorite on this list so far by a landslide. What an experience.

David Bowie is good at making music

stone cold classic!

The crown jewel of David Bowie’s catalogue. The pinnacle of his personal/professional development. The harbinger of his transformation into rock alien superstar who transcends all space and time. It is a flawless obvious five star album. Top notch listening end to end and packaged with a phenomenal album cover too!

One of my all time favorites

5 stars. Easy. Done.

ive arleady listen to it a couple of times, got it on CD, classic, easy 9/10, each song is insanely good. Compare to his other catalog its clearly, for now at least, his best one

Bold, confident, brilliant. Killer classics and not a weak track on the album. Add a cool concept and an iconic character, and you have an all-time great album. Rating: 5/5 Playlist track: Starman Date listened: 27/11/22

Fantastic album all the way through. Just nothing wrong with Bowie.

Damn. Dude was on a roll. This time around, I enjoyed focusing on the performances and production. Loved Woody Woodmansey's drums on "Soul Love," and Mick Ronson's juicy guitar on "Moonage Daydream" and Bowie's otherworldly vocal performances throughout. p.s. When my daughter got a record player, this was the first album I bought for her because I feel like all record players should just come with this album.

Love Bowie

Great album start to finish.

Insane. Like, literally crazy. But in the absolute best possible sense of the word. 5/5

You’re not alone

I haven't got anything to add about this album that hasn't already been said. There is not one note wrong with this album. Unreal.

5 I don't care if it's a mainstream opinion - this is Bowie's best. Space Alien Bowie is the best Bowie, and he oozes androgynously glam rockstar charm that so many other artists have tried and failed to emulate. Every song on this album is absolutely fantastic in its own uniquely crafted standout way, to the point where you really couldn't go wrong jumping in on any track at random. Of course the four hits are rock staples (on an album only eleven tracks long!), but songs like Soul Love, It Ain't Easy, and Hang on to Yourself - that aren't talked about as much - are just as strong as the aforementioned titan tracks, if not stronger. In particular, if we're being real here, Five Years is not only the best song on the album, but probably among the best of Bowie's career. An actual sci-fi adventure in album form, you're doing yourself a genuine disservice if you don't listen at least once in your life.

nothing needs to be said about this album, it's perfect

I don’t really need to even say anything about this album. Peak David Bowie and even if it’s not my fav album of his it’s still getting a 5

Added to favorites. Favorite tracks: Lady Stardust and Five Years

Absolute classic. Totally kicks balls and slaps titties.

Timeless. If Bowie released this today, it would have still made waves.

Wham bam thank you ma'am!

Stone cold classic. And yet I still rate Station to Station, and yes, Young Americans even better!

Love it

An all time classic... certainly one of the best albums of all time. When i'm presented with most other Bowie albums, i'm frequently confused by why they are so loved because none of them seem to come close to this one. This is so easy to enjoy... every song from top to bottom is interesting and exciting. It varies tempo and energy and has such compelling content. Amazing.

À écouter en rêvassant pendant la nuit, au clair de lune de préférence. Mes tracks pref : 1- Rock’n roll suicide 2- Starman 3 - Moonage Daydream 4 - Five years 5- Lady stardust

Damn strrrrrt

Maravilloso

All time great album.

Not my favourite DB album (Station To Station), not my favourite of the early 70s period (Hunky Dory). There was a time, a long time ago where I didn't like it that much but things are different now.

Is it possible to view this thing disapassionately? Fuck that, five stars forever.

Such a creative album, great vocals, great instrumentals, get production, David Bowie is one of the best for a reason. Still love Hunky Dory more but dude, was so happy when I saw this pop up.

Lovely album. I’ve heard a the singles off it and have loved them but listening to the ones between them was a lot of fun. Timeless and spacey and such a great sound

timeless, know every note

Good stuff!

Magical

Probably Bowie’s finest album. Although, I’m partial to the A side of Low.

This is a nearly perfect album and if you don't agree you are dead to me.

Jack Nicholson's character in The Shining actually wrote an incredible novel whilst locked away in that hotel, but the book/film edits don't want you to know that. No, that's all "all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy", "here's Johnny" and murdering his family bullshit. There's a magical novel out there though and you're all to scared to admit it. I'm led to believe that it inspired this record.

A moonage daydream. The fractured, paranoid lyrics are evocative of a decadent, decaying future, and the music echoes an apocalyptic, nuclear dread. A dread that we're oh so keen to be suffocated by.

The best David Bowie apart from that bit he did in Extras. Oh and Labyrinth, Labyrinth is big.

A masterpiece, magnificent. Timeless. One of my all-time favourites.

One of the best three intro songs to an album.

He's the dude. Love the Ziggy Stardust guitar riff

Legendary!

Just incredible.

I've always thought this album was just kind of good but nothing special, but then I had a big Bowie binge back in May where I listened to most of his discography and I left with a newfound respect for the man that I previously never had. Yeah, it's a classic and I'm a fool for not realizing it sooner! "Five Years", "Moonage Daydream", "Starman", "Ziggy Stardust", "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" - the Bowster was on fire. I apologize for calling him the Bowster, alas my backspace key is broken. I also want to lay down some facts. This is a concept album about a singer who becomes famous and overdoses on his own ego. On the cover, we see Bowie standing under a sign that says "K. West". The first track on this album is called "Five Years". You want to know what happened 5 years, almost to the day, after this album was released? Kanye West was born. I rest my case, your honor.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Non posso dargli meno a David, su

Solid.

Classic

I mean…come on!

I think it is impossible to say anything that everybody did not say in the past about this album. A great piece of music history. It's awe-inspiring how much Bowie is eclectic and different among his different albums

When I was younger, my knowledge on David Bowie was very slim, I basically knew Space Oddity and that he was in Labyrinth, but when he sadly passed away I decided to change that, but I always kind of ignored this album because it was more rock 'n' roll than his later albums, and I had grown tired of classic rock as a genre. Boy do I regret this, that was amazing. I mean, of course Starman is great, but the rest of the album is no slouch either. It's no wonder I usually see this at the top of rankings for all his albums, and I'm super excited for his other eight on here.

A classic.

So so so goooooood

Bellísimo! Una obra maestra. Para escuchar todo se corrido y sin que nadie te moleste.

starts out with quite possibly my favourite Bowie song...Five Years, and just doesn't let up. Great song after great song. Then it ends with three epic songs in Ziggy Stardust, Sufragette City and Rock and Roll Suicide. A nearly perfect album. 5 stars

Classic DB album.

I mean it's just this album, probably one of if not my favourite album, wonder what I'll rate it?

amazing record

Top 10 all time

One of the all time great albums. "Five Years" and the title track are my favourites, but the album doesn't miss, but the album is phenomenal cover to cover. Even the worst stuff that Bowie ever wrote is top tier, and this is his opus.

I just wish there was more of it!

Landmark album. Every track is a killer. Beyond the obvious singles that have become ubiquitous, I really loved Hang On To Yourself. Would we have had the Ramones if not for that one?

Sensational. Dynamic. Bowie at his best

im an alligator

One of my all-time favourite records, top to bottom. Bowie and Ronson did Something great here, and its influence is still felt.

Some beautiful, iconic tunes in this album

Masterpiece

Woooooh

'Five Years' è particolarmente evocativa in questa giornata <3 Bellissimo.

Mon meilleur Bowie.

Loved it

There it is. :')

Ahhh, a big one. "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" is the 5th album from David Bowie and with his backing band named The Spiders from Mars. This album has a "loose" concept developed after the songs were written. I think the concept works pretty well, except maybe for a few songs. The concept is Ziggy Stardust, an androgynous and bisexual rock star, sent to Earth before an impending disaster, wins the hearts of fans but falls from grace, succumbing to his own ego. At the time Bowie was heavily influenced by Iggy Pop, the Velvet Underground, Marc Bolan, Vince Taylor and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Given the influences, that is why the music and concept work for me. Now I understand. The music is classified as glam rock or proto-punk but the music on this album pretty much transcends a classification. I hear blues, the sound of future rock and punk, 50's music and other classifications. Stating the obvious, not a bad song. In fact, you could write a paragraph, essay or, heck, a book on each song: Bowie's influences, how the song pertains to the concept, the music and on. "Five Years" starts the album slow and just builds the momentum which cathartic vocals ending the song. Earth is revealed to have five years left and Ziggy, the savior, is sort of introduced. Well, Ziggy is firmly introduced in the third song "Moonage Daydream" and he's an alligator, a mama-poppa, space invader, rock n' rollin bitch. Great guitar intro, piano chorus, climatic guitar ending and the best use of a pennywhistle in a rock song. "Starman" was the first single and just a beautiful song with Ziggy bring a message of hope. And, now we have maybe the best guitar riff in rock history in "Ziggy Stardust." Just brilliant. This is the heart of the album's concept with Ziggy rising to fame but his ego loses him his fans and band. I don't know what happen to the Earth but Ziggy eventually dies in the final song "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide." I feel like I'm just getting started....each song deserves a mention. This album is a stone cold classic and definitely up there among Bowie's best. Impossible for me to pick his best. A smart move that Bowie made was that Ziggy was short-lived, transitioning to Alladin Sane the following year. Not enough time for a Ziggy burnout.

Midcentury american blues influence obvious on many tracks. Influence on following decades of rock clear on some tracks particularly it ain't easy

Very rarely do i listen to an album that opens up with 5 straight BANGERS hot damn. "Five Years" sets the stage wonderfully with the vocal/instrumental contrast with the melodramatic and stretched rock themes. "It Ain't Easy" presents a stark shift in the album, slower, drawn out lyrics over a more relaxed instrumentation hits like a cold beer after a hot day. I've never personally liked "Hang on to Yourself" but the riff is very catchy, while the album story isn't coming together so well i can see this as a collection of performances by Ziggy and this serves as another transitional track in my ears, setting the stage for the end of the album. "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"s horns really make the song, underpinning the slow burn in the track. The lyrics allude to a pretty gritty future but the song is oddly comforting, classic Bowie with that contrast. As a concept album the story isn't totally coherent, maybe I need a few more listens. but the image of Ziggy Stardust is sufficiently filled by themes of the album.

6/5 - Amazing

What’s to say? A classic from start to finish. Can only imagine how minds were blown when it was released.

Beautiful :)

Well well well, its a banger isn't it. Undeniable. I'm still not entirely sure what my favourite Bowie album is, but this must be a frontrunner. Bowie had vision, and that is what sets him apart. The grandeur, the umph, the fucken coolness. Do love this more rock phase

Well what's to be said that hasn't already a million times. It's a masterpiece

Have never listened to Bowie before this. I understand why he is so liked. Great album.

One of the greatest albums ever recorded. It is a work that is majestic and mature. Thoroughly enjoyable top to bottom.

This kind of music was cutting edge and revolutionary for the context of the time period, and still holds up as an enjoyable listen to this day. Some of the ideas and musical themes here are unique even in today's landscape.

el ipie es topu

Perfection. What more can be said about classic era Bowie. Sublime

Loved the album, "Moonage Daydream" and "Starman" my favourite tracks, but there wasn't a bad track on the album.

For me, the top musically for first era Bowie, and a real genre-definer for the loosely conceptual rock album.

An easy 5 star. I've loved all these songs at some point, but I think right now the highlights for me are Lady Stardust, Soul Love, and Rock n' Roll Suicide

Dang this is so good. There are a few songs I don't love in the middle, but the rest more than make up for it.

This album is another entry in the rock star fall from grace concept album/rock opera catalogue. David Bowie draws on a variety of influences including his contemporaries as well as 1950s rock and roll to create something of a proto-punk/glam rock masterpiece. This album stands out within Bowie's catalogue which certainly says a lot. Bowie incorporates strains of metal (still in its infancy), pop, and jazz as well which shows that this album was at the forefront of musical development at that time. For me, this album is in my top 25 and possible in my top 10.

A classic

Simply one of the best albums to appear on the list. 10 star. This is what an album should be. Cover art Iconic

Classic Bowie album and probably one of the most influential albums of the 70's. Superb tracks here, a bit like choosing your favourite child, choosing a favourite Ziggy track! I Do love "Five Years" "Starman" "Hang On To Yourself" "Ziggy Stardust" (Of Course) and the wonderful "Rock And Roll Suicide" but their isn't really a bad song on this album. Influenced so many bands and musical movements (Punk & New Romantics) Well worth a visit if you don't know it and in my top 10 albums of all time.

Destined to be one of the Top Ten highest rated albums on this site. If this list were limited to only one album per artist, you'd have a hard time arguing that this album shouldn't be the one to represent Bowie. Fitting this came up on the FIVE YEAR anniversary of the day I met my wife. Five Years is my favorite Bowie song - Today. Next week, it could be Suffragette City. Or maybe Moonage Daydream. Then it'll probably be Five Years again. Five Years is the Bowie song I never tire of, which makes it the perfect "Side 1, Track 1". We may never fully grasp the impact this album continues to have. I mean, Garth Brooks apparently listened and thought, "...Chris Gaines! Soul Patch!", then committed to an alter ego designed to reach a pop audience. Of course, Chris Gaines was no Ziggy Stardust. No one was or ever will be.

Rock de Bowie. Con Starman. Vinilo.

If there's one thing that doing this 1001 albums thing has done for me, it's make me appreciate the genius of David Bowie. I've always liked David Bowie, but never really gone deep into his music. In fact, I had never listened to this album start to finish. Simply brilliant. 5 stars.

Such a great album. Could listen many times on repeat without getting tired of it!

what can you say ... a total genius at the absolute height of his powers.

Absolutely magnificent

of course very cool

Mon meilleur Bowie.

A superb album. One of my favourites.

Tellement bon, un chef d’oeuvre.5

What a masterful work. Bowie would go on to do so much more musically but this remains, in my opinion, his most accessible, enjoyable, and accomplished work. 'Starman' is one of the greatest songs ever written; 'Five Years', 'Moonage Daydream', 'Ziggy Stardust', and 'Suffragette City' are never far from classic rock radio for good reason. 'Rock 'N' Roll Suicide' is one of my all-time favourite album closers, with its muted acoustic intro transitioning into the bombastic finale of Bowie passionately imploring "Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful". Yeah, this is one hell of an album. They don't write them like this anymore.

Hi ha uns quants discos als quals les 5 estrelles se'ls hi queden curtes. Aquest és un d'ells. Onze petites joies d'orfebreria, simplement perfectes, que costa creure hagin estat ideades per algú d'aquest planeta

Starts off great and just gets better and better. An easy 5 stars, what an album.

This is definitely my favorite Bowie album that I've gotten so far (the first two were Blackstar and Heroes, which I didn't particularly care for), but this one is so good. I loved it.

Alladin Sane puis Ziggy Stardust dans la même semaine = complot??? Prefs: TOUT Moins pref: RIEN

One of the first albums that turned me onto music. It's not perfect (I'd probably go 4.5) but the highs are stratospheric

FIVE STARS An all-time classic and a personal favorite of mine. As is usually the case with those five-stars albums, I won't write a full-blown review about this particular record, because others have already written wonderful stuff about it and there's not much I can add that I feel could be relevant and interesting. It's just a gem. Go and listen to it a.s.a.p. Number of albums left to review or just listen to:  more than 900, I've temporarily lost count here Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens:  approximately a half so far (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: a quarter Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): the last quarter

Phenomenal. One of, if not the best of Bowie's albums. Certainly the best of that phase/sound.

Five Years Soul Love Moonage Daydream Starman Star Ziggy Stardust Suffragette City Rock n roll suicide ... que dire. Le plus grand artiste de tous le temps qui sort son meilleur album? 5 étoiles en or massif

I enjoyed this album a lot... Some parts of it weren't as memorable to me but there was plenty of amazingness to make up for that. It feels very cohesive and well planned out while also having such an exciting, outside-the-box energy.

The songwriting is more basic than on Hunky Dory, but it is still great

David Bowie has to be my favourite of those classic super popular musicians this review is very positive so to balance it out I will say that hunky dory is the superior Bowie work but this album still deserves classic status and this is why… Five years has to be one of the best openers ever, fine it doesn’t have any big instrumental build up at the start, but it does have a slow but great build up on the verses then the outro which acts like an extended chorus at the end. Soul love is the kind of song I think of when I think David Bowie an amazing pop rock song, great guitars, great lyrics, great chorus and a well done outro. I love the use of the electric guitar in Moonage Daydream, the instrumental break also works really well with the song and that outro oh my very, very good. Starman has to be the most iconic Bowie song it’s just such a well done song main highlights here are the chorus the small instrumental break before the chorus and basically anything to do with this iconic songs chorus. The verses aren’t as good as the chorus but they’re still great. It ain’t easy feels like a much needed comedown from the first four songs while still retaining that Bowie magic, great to close off side one. Lady stardust isn’t one of my favourites on here but it’s got some piano work and works well as being a second opener for side two. Star is a good song for sure its very enjoyable the main song is very fast paced only for my favourite part that outro. Hang on to yourself is the album’s weakest point but it still provides good time entertainment and like any Bowie song the instrumental work us so good. The intro of Ziggy stardust is great and the song tells the story that’s kinda been hidden by the great music we’ve been getting the changing chorus is really good ( man Bowie knows how to make a chorus). Suffragette city is a good song but that intro with the heavier guitars has ti be my favourite bit. The repeated “ hey man’s” Would probably be made really annoying by a lesser artist but they work in this tune and the subtler piano works makes this song so special. Rock and roll suicide is everything you want from a closer a good slower song that builds up to make this such a satisfying closer to such a classic album.

more stars are needed, please

Fantastic piece of music. Wow.

Is this the first appearance of Kanye West? Albeit just as a street sign? This is a transformational album. Astonishing. And a star that was willing to be different from the dozens of stars that were climbing the charts at the time. That was great.

I loved it. It's just fun with some nice messaging sprinkled in.

I think this is the first album we've listened to that, for me, suffers from being made so long ago and being so influential. I feel like if I had heard this for the first time in 1972 when it was released, it would have absolutely blown my mind. But people have been making music inspired by Bowie for 50+ years at this point, so none of this felt particularly "new" to me, even though it surely was at the time. I still think the album was very very enjoyable to listen to, worth 5 stars, and I will likely listen to it again since I'm a sucker for concept albums, but I think this will be in the lower tier of 5 star ratings for me.

One of my favorite albums. Every time I listen to it I like it more. I don't have much more to say. It is amazing.

gave this album a spin since i have it on vinyl, still blows me away years after i first got it.

Yup, absolutely lived up to the hype. This list is turning me into a Bowie fan for sure. I still think Heroes is my favorite, but this is a very close second.

Absolutely Timeless. Not my fave from Bowie, but it is so damn consistent and strong.

A classic from start to finish - perhaps the only bad thing is the familiarity of all the songs as I have heard it so much that my 'go to' Bowie albums are either from 75-80 or from 93 onwards. I will never tire of hearing Five Years, Suffragette City, Moonage Daydream, Starman and Ziggy.

One of my all time favourite albums. Can't listen to the last song loud enough.

Obvious, flat-out five-stars, this album is the fucking best.

Ah Ziggy. Imagine knowing the hits from the album but not knowing the joys of Moonahe Daydream screaming into your earlugs. Perfect justification for why albums are greater than greatest hits
